Obama concludes: 'We've come too far to let our hearts grow faint'

President Obama speaks to supporters in Des Moines, Iowa at his final campaign event before election day.

Des Moines, Iowa — For the final campaign event of the 2012 cycle, President Barack Obama returned to where his bid for presidency began.

At a rally downtown here, against the backdrop of the capital, the president and first lady Michelle Obama took the crowd back four years ago, when they were campaigning at the state fair and celebrating the birthday of one of their daughters.

“Tomorrow we get the chance to finish what we started in Iowa,” the first lady said before introducing her husband.

Talking about those early days in Iowa, the president appeared emotional as he started by thanking the volunteers gathered.

"All of you who have lived and breathed the hard work of change, I want to thank you," Obama said.

To the others, he evoked popular lines from his 2008 stump speech.

"When the cynics said we couldn't, you said yes we can – you said yes, we can, and we did. Against all odds and we did," he said. But, he added, “We're not done yet on this journey."

About 20,000 people filled the streets downtown with signs that read “Forward!” They cheered when the president challenged them to fight with him.

"I've got a lot more fight left in me,” he said. “But to wage that fight on behalf of American families, I need you to still have some fight in you too.”

Tears were visible on President Obama's cheek during his final presidential campaign rally in Des Moines, Iowa, on Monday.

His mentions of 2008 also served as a reminder that even at larger rallies, the president’s campaign does not have the same energy as his first. The president seemed to acknowledge that as well when he said, “We’ve come too far to let our hearts grow faint.”

He also told a story he recounted during the 2008 campaign, which on Monday night took on new meaning.

The story was about Edith Childs, the South Carolinian who brought the “Fired up, Ready to Go” chant to his campaign.

This time, the story had a new twist. The Obama campaign had offered to fly Childs to Des Moines for Obama’s last event of the 2012 campaign.

But she refused, the president said, because she didn’t have time. She was organizing people to knock on doors – she thought he still had a chance to win North Carolina.

Concluding the story – and his campaign – Obama said, “And that shows you what one voice can do.”

GOP candidate Mitt Romney has added last-minute events on Tuesday, Election Day, but for Obama, the election has wrapped up.

He flies to Chicago on Tuesday and will spend the day playing basketball – which tomorrow becomes an Election Day tradition – with staff and friends, including his former bodyman Reggie Love, who made an appearance on the trail Monday as well.

"It’s out of my hands now,” Obama said. “It’s in yours. All of it depends on what you do.”

If that was a real tear it was because the family vacation is over. He can now go back a to his anti-American church, shout that he is a muslim , take the flag pin off, he doesn't have to salute the flag anymore make phoney speeches at military funeral, and go back to Kenya the place he keeps talking about that he loves so much .The leader of the world, (those are his words), or man without a country.

It's too bad catchphrases don't get our economy expanding in a real recovery - we would all be sitting on 20 pieces of gold if it were so.

Obama has sat too long for any good he is doing. It's about jobs! You did nothing for jobs your first two years for the many and bought union votes for today from the few you did help (GM, teachers, other public union members) with the stinulus you ripped off from the taxpayers in this country.

"We've created 5M jobs"! What O doesn't say is another 5.5M were laid off hence a slight tick up in unemployment.

Only someone with a compromised cranium could justify a vote for O.

It'd be nice if the President and/or the Governors of the worst-affected states would declare a three-month moratorium on rents, loans, and mortgage payments for people and companies under a certain amount of net worth (obviously not rich people and businesses).

If there's no public transportation, people can't get to work. If they can't get to work, they can't pay their rent. If their landlords can't collect rent, they can't pay their own mortgages.

Romney and Republicans further down the food chain for the first time began
imagining another four years of Democratic rule in the White House.

First, a handful of Republicans battling for election in close Senate races
in Connecticut, Massachusetts and Nevada publicly distanced themselves from Romney’s surreptitiously videotaped comments that “47 percent”
of Americans think of themselves as victims, pay no income taxes and are
dependent on government support. ”That’s not the way I view the world,” said
Sen. Scott Brown, R-Mass., who is struggling to fend off a challenge by Democrat
            Elizabeth Warren

The first debate kept Romney in it for a while and with it, all the money from the Super PACs and the RNC. I was worried they were going to pull money and really go heavy in the downballot races. They didn't because they thought Romney could win....in the mean time, however, the Senate became basically out of reach for the GOP...and there is even talk the Dems could take back the House.

Once the Chinese lift the one child ban on birthing in China there will be a whole lot of Chinese who need jobs.

With the lower pay rate, no health insurance and the safety standards that American companies are made to provide to the American worker by the government so that America does not return to the 1800's when young kids as young as five worked in factors, more U.S. companies will move out of America to meet the demand of the growing population in China.

More jobs will leave America thus affecting the U.S. economy that much more.

....and America wants to vote Romney in as president?

Romney will be the first one to close down jobs here in America , and sell the assets to China , while he banks hundreds of millions of dollars.

And what is President Obama's plan to work within this global trend? Raise the cost of healthcare to business. Support & subsidize unionized labor.

Obama cries at his final rally. What's new. He has been a cry baby his entire 4 year term. He's always complaining about about Bush. He complains about the resistance he's getting from congress. If it's not one thing, it's another. This guy who promised this country change actually succeed....only it wasn't the change the majority of Americans wanted. We don't want to live in a socialized environment like the Europeans. Obama has been bad for this country for 4 years. A reelected Obama will be a disaster for this country for 4 more years.

Now for you Obama supporters. For the past 4 years, you too are a bunch of winers. You never have your fact straight. It is easy to recognize the liberals on these posts because the left wingers are those who call the conservatives names...even throw out curse words. When Romney wins...and I mean win big which he will...within 6 months you will begin to see a marked improvement in our economy. And then, hopefully, we will begin to see an end to the liberal crying.

Yeah, right. What have the Democrats done improve their position over the last 50 years? The political "enslavement" continues. Obamacare will cost millions to lose their current coverage and many millions more will remain without any coverage. All that for a cool $2T+.

2 - He successfully hid our money in offshore accounts..

3 - He is successfully avoiding disclosing his tax returns that shows that he didn’t pay taxes.

I just read, in disbelief, that Ryan said today that "Barack Obama is a threat to christian values" Its amazing what he and Mitt will say to win the Presidency. That statement is absolutly insane. If you believe that statement, you are just as nutty as they are. The right wingers say that the President is leading this country down the path of socialism, well it looks like they want the country on the path to a theocracy. HIPOCRITS WANTING TO STEAL FROM THE POOR AND GIVE TO THE FILTHY RICH , NOW WANTS US TO BELIEVE THIS IS THE WILL OF JESUS CHRIST ??? I KNOW '' MORONI '' HAS REALLY WACKED THEIR HEADS !!!! CHRISTIAN VALUES also oppose '' PREJUDICE '' , lynchings , adultery , fornication , shacking up , lying , stealing on your 1040 , whoremongering , cursing , smoking , drinking , pill popping , weed toking , drug dealing , jealousy , and coming against your president that he put in office. and the beat goes on. sooooooo who has no sin , and can judge others ????? !!!! throw the first stone !!!!!!! IT WILL BE EASIER FOR A CAMEL TO GO THROUGH THE EYE OF A NEEDLE , THEN FOR A RICH MAN TO ENTER THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN !!!!!!!!! BECAUSE THE RICH GETS '' GREEDY '' , JUST LIKE ROMNEY
