Obama's final campaign day takes on rock star feel

President Obama closes out his 2012 presidential campaign with performances from Bruce Springsteen and Jay-Z during a rally in Ohio. Watch the president's entire speech.

COLUMBUS, OH -- The campaign stops of the 2012 election have ceased feeling like rock concerts -- they've become rock concerts.

It took no less than two of music's two biggest stars, Bruce Springsteen and Jay Z, to join forces on behalf of President Barack Obama on Monday to drive that point home.

Jason Reed / Reuters

President Barack Obama is greeted on stage by rapper Jay-Z at an election campaign rally in Columbus, Ohio, November 5, 2012 on the eve of the U.S. presidential elections.

But before the show and the afterparty and the hotel lobby, there’s the plane ride to the next gig.

Springsteen told one reporter that his first flight on Air Force One, from Madison, Wis. to Columbus, was "pretty cool," and that he and the president had a chance to chat about the effects of Hurricane Sandy on New Jersey. And according to the Associated Press, the president also handed the phone over to Springsteen after getting an update on Sandy recovery from New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.

Once at the gig, it had become clear that Springsteen has gotten a little bit of his own stump speech together for these events. For the second time today, he told a tongue-in-cheek story about the president asking him to write a campaign song that includes the campaign’s theme of “Forward” and the president’s name.  He then performed the hastily crafted song that includes lines like, “Usually this time of day I’m in my pajamas. Well, let’s vote for the man who got Osama. Forward and away we go.”

The 15,500-person audience in the not-quite-full Nationwide Arena enjoyed Springsteen’s performance, but it took a huge American flag unfurling, unrelenting bass and, well, Jay-Z to get hands in the air.

In the final push in the 2012 presidential election, candidates Mitt Romney and Barack Obama make their last appeals to voters.

"HOVA" performed crowd-pleasers like "Run this Town" and "Public Service Announcement." He also modified a line or two of "99 Problems," attempting to remove any profanities and replace it with a cleaner version. (The result? “I’ve got 99 problems but a Mitt ain’t one.” Still, a couple of curse words in his background vocals slipped through the cracks.)

The president seemed to enjoy his last day of campaigning with the rock stars, inviting the two on stage at the end for a photo op and saying for the second time today, “I'm …flying with Bruce Springsteen on the last day that I'll ever campaign; that's not a bad way to bring it home, with 'The Boss.'"

Let's bring this one home, Mr. President. You've ran an honest campaign and deserve a second term. Your opponent has lied more times than a Persian rug. The choice is easy.

All day today, very tense. Yet so glad to see President Obama having fun with the crowds and the music.

The Godfather. Whenever the family got together for a meal, there was fighting, there was laughing, there was joking, there was plenty of Italian food, there were lots of family members just being a family.

I remember that one particular scene - they're all sitting around the table, eating I believe it was Chinese food - waiting for the phone call that would tell Michael where the meet up was going to be with the police officer McClusky and Sollozzo.

Before the call, that dinner scene was full of drama and quite tense. Everybody was silently eating, smoking or just picking at their food. I recall someone, I can't remember who, just sitting there just sort of shaking a bottle of beer every so often. All very worried. All wondering the same thing.

Have we done enough to protect Michael before he heads to the restaurant.

That's how I feel tonite. Did we do all we needed to do. Did we donate enough time, enough money, did we make enough telephone calls, did we knock on enough doors, did we make sure everybody we know will vote tomorrow in order to to get our president re-elected? Did we have the president's back enough these past 4 years?

I saw all the final polls today. Did we do enough?

HELL YES!!!!!!

Did you all happen to see the crack Romney tweeted today? Something about republicans will vote after work, because they work?

He never misses an opportunity to be as condescending as possible towards half the people in this country.

I have question. Why don't the republicans spend more time trying to get him elected instead of spending all their time with voter suppression?

And speaking of a day job, when has Romney actually worked? He's been running for the presidency for years and years. And doing nothing else.

Believe me, when he was our governor, he didn't work. He didn't do anything, except prepare himself for the most powerful job in the world. And he didn't even do that. He's the most unprepared candidate we have ever had. What the hell has he been doing all these years?!

We the people are working. We're busy setting our nation back on track towards a better & brighter future. Romney never lifted a finger to help. No republicans did.

Did you also see today the message from Paul McCartney? Vote for Obama!!!

Best of luck tomorrow everybody. Especially Obama/Biden.

AMERICA, DO NOT BE FOOLED !

The Carnival Barkers United Front(formerly known as the MSM) have tryed to Convince Real Americans of Every Shiny Object & Every SmellTest possible!

However, Real America needs to be Focused on 1 thing, "The Supreme Court" & its direction over the LONG Term. In 2010, Folks were discouraged because President Obama had'nt succeeded in turning around the The Economic Disaster of 8 years from the Previous Administration, in ONLY 2 Short Years. They stayed Home & Did'nt VOTE, therefore giving Republicans the Enjoyment of Redistricting in Many States after the Census was taken. Another 10 years LOST, due to the Short Term memory of the "I Want Change Now Crowd"!

Tommorrow, the LONGTERM Direction of America will Rest on WHO America Elects as President! Does America wanna continue the Corparate Direction of America(started with Bush/Cheney),or does America wanna get back to a "We The People America" ?

This Presidential Election is about "The Supreme Court" & Who gets to Pick 1-2 or 3 Judges in the next 4 Years!

It's about NOTHING BUT THE LONGTERM HEALTH OF, "WE THE PEOPLE"!

Re-Elect President Barrack Obama !

You Betcha!

The campaign stops of the 2012 election have ceased feeling like rock concerts -- they've become rock concerts.

That's exactly what this country needs... a president that is turning our society into one huge dope fest. I wonder if they offer dubies and blow at the door...

This is exactly what's wrong with Obama... he wants a doped up, stupid society so he can do what he wants... Too bad for him, there's enough of us to put him out of office... We don't need rock concerts... millions of Americans need jobs.

Tomorrow will decide the direction of this country - rock concerts or back to work...

Tony, Exactly the right sentiments. Let us hope people are able to vote in a timely fashion. States ought to consider mail in voting. Here in the NW (Wa and OR) we have ballots mailed to us and it works beautifully. In 2010 our two states had the highest voter turnout in the nation. Of course, we know the GOP wants to suppress the vote, so it probably won't happen in those states where they have control.

Did Obama accept the job after his election? Did Obama know what he was getting himself into? The answer to these two questions is yes. What did he do to change course? Nothing! He lived for 4 years blaming everyone but himself.

Our President said that he could work with the opposition party by reaching across the isle. That did not work.

Our President said that his administration would be free from lobbyists. That did not work.

Our President said that his administration would be the most transparent ever. That did not work.

Our President said that he would fix the economy within three years. That did not work.

Our President said that his health care bill would lower health care costs. That did not work.

Our President said that he would not raise taxes on 95% of Americans in any way. That did not work.

Our President said that his stimulus spending bill would solve our employment problem. That did not work.

Our President said that he would cut the deficit in half by the end of his first term. That did not work.

Our President has provided an economic "plan" for the next 4 years that is mathematically impossible. That cannot work.

I see a pattern here. Our President said that if he could not fix the economy within three year that he did not deserve a second term.

We want to stop the felonious thefts of American elections," says William Gheen, ALIPAC's president.

Gheen points to a commentary published in Sunday's Las Vegas Review Journal. In it, editorial writer Glenn Cook accuses the Culinary Union 226 of knowingly registering illegal immigrants and then pressured them to vote.

Cook quotes an unidentified illegal immigrant who is on the Clark County voter rolls. The person claims a union representative told them they were "in so much trouble" for refusing to vote.

Catherine Lu, a spokesperson for Nevada Secretary of State Ross Miller, said she could not comment on Cook's editorial or ALIPAC's official complaint.

Everybody knows that the American People are allowed time off our jobs to vote.

What planet are you living on???

There's millions of people that are NOT permitted to just leave work to go vote.

They either have to take personal time off or go before work, at lunchtime, or after work.

Feisty, I'm so totally UP for DC next year. I've already told everybody that it's a #1 priority for me. Can't wait.

Right now I'm reading William Martin's new book - The Lincoln Letter. It is so so good; the entire book takes place in DC - the story takes place in a back and forth plot - during the Civil War and today, with Barack Obama as our president. The history he shares is spectacular about the city and Lincoln's day to day life during the Civil War. He writes a lot about The Willard Hotel in particular, a hotel I hope to stay in one of these days.

From reading the book, DC was really quite dumpy back in those Abraham Lincoln days. The Capitol Dome was yet to be completed. But of course now it's one of the prettiest places on earth, particularly at night.

    So not true.

But leave it to Republicans to try to perpetuate a "lie" just like Republicans did for George "Curveball" Bush. Are you still trying to push that story that it was Iraq that attacked on 9/11?

But have it your way, Republicans can't vote because they're not allowed time off. That's good enough for me and there goes "millions" of votes that Mitt Robme WON'T get. Yippie!

Exactly B. The acts of those in Ohio and Florida by Republicans to keep voters away will not go unnoticed. They are not going to be allowed to steal this election. Folks need to realize that this is not by accident. This has been planned by right wing criminals who if found guilty, should spend lengthy terms in federal prison.

What happens when MYTH loses; will he go to jail? Now that would be historical!!!

As tax experts have noted, there are any number of reasons why Romney doesn’t want to release more of his taxes—it’s possible he participated in an IRS amnesty program for secret foreign bank accounts; it’s more possible he gamed the system to avoid taxes on his huge retirement account and his sons’ $100 million trust fund, or that he paid very, very low rates these past couple years as a result of a tax code that favors people like him whose income is mainly taxed as capital gains. (In releasing his belated 2011 returns in September, Romney asserted, without providing any evidence, that he had not paid an effective rate lower than 13 percent during the past decade.) Just this week, Bloomberg News offered a new shred of insight, into the way that Romney used the Mormon church to shelter some of his investment gains from taxes. But the fact is, barring some future leak, we're simply not going to find out what was so worrisome in Romney’s taxes from only a few years ago.

In essence, Romney has managed to make it through an entire presidential campaign having openly flouted longstanding norms of disclosure by candidates. This raises some important questions,

What voters are saying about Obama:

        1. "The Affordable Care Act is saving my daughter's life."

        2. "Obama is for the vets. He helped us wind down in Iraq, he's improved mental health

        policy with VA benefits."

        3. "Obama stuck his neck out for us, the auto industry. He wasn't going to let it just

die, and I'm driving in this morning because of that, because of him."

        4. "Osama bin Laden is dead, and General Motors is alive."

        5. "Supreme Court Supreme Court Supreme Court."

        6. "Arithmetic. Mitt Romney's tax cuts do not add-up"

        7. "He cares for the 100 percent."

        8. "When Obama came into office, he successfully renewed our country's place in the

community of nations, making cooperation in tackling the world's challenges possible."

        9. "The actions he has taken with respect to protecting us from terrorism have been

        very, very solid."

        10. "I was really very grateful to him for standing up for those kids who are having a

really rough time out there because of their orientation."

        11. "For me, President Obama is our best choice because he has a vision of the United

States as a place where we are all in this together."

        12. "He has a real plan for rescuing the economy that passes the 'math' test."

        13. "Having someone in office who understands how powerful our voice can be is very

        important."

        14. "I am voting for Barack Obama and Joe Biden because I can trust them to care for

the middle class and restore the American dream."

        15. "The first measure he signed into law after becoming president was the Lilly

Ledbetter Fair Pay Act -- so a female high school counselor or physical education

teacher can fight for equal pay for equal work."

        16. "I believe in the America he wants for my grandchildren."

        17. "We need four more years of repair, of helping the middle class achieve a

        sustainable economy."

        18. "I've watched him fight for our country, stand by the middle class, the working

class, the military, the education of our children, universal health care, women, the

environment, and matters of national and domestic security."

        19. "The gifted 12-year-old I taught, whose parents were deported and left her here

with her grandmother, will be allowed to stay and finish her education. She's been in

        the U.S. since age one."

        20. "I want our president to place scientific evidence and risk management above

        electoral politics."

        21. "I have four children who are under 26 and able to stay on my health care plan.

        That's been huge."

        22. "He's fighting to defend and better Social Security and Medicare -- because

millions of Latino seniors rely on them."

        23. "Thanks to the President's efforts to keep student loan rates low, I can expect to

save nearly $1000 as I work to repay my student loans. And I don't have too many of

those, thanks to the Federal Pell Grant program."

        24. "It's been wonderful to have President Obama as a champion for access to health

care for all women in this country."

        25. "Re-electing Barack Obama would lead to a stronger economic recovery than would be

the case were Mitt Romney to win on November 6th."

How in the world, could anyone in their right mind vote for a Party that has deliberately trashed our economy, and besides that has been trying to keep it in a recession throughout Obama's Presidency? Just think about that America, they’ve caused each and everyone of us, to have to endure 4 extra years of recession, whereas, we could have been well on the road to recovery by now! Now, I ask, how much more American can that be, all of you Parasites?

Typical ignorant, willfully misinformed conservative. Really, do you care so much about Ambassador Stevens? Is your concern genuine? Then please tell us about your outrage over the deaths of 53 Americans in 11 U.S. Embassies during Bush's 8 years in office and another 90 Americans wounded in those attacks. You must be so outraged at the lack of investigations, prosecutions and the impeachment of George W. Bush. Really, if you want to break it down, by this time in George W. Bush's first term, 26 Americans had been killed in U.S. Embassies. Gosh...in a post-9/11 world, you would think that Bush would have made protecting our embassies abroad a priority.

You're not a thinker. You're a blind follower that parrots talking points. Grow up.

demoblat, if you're going to pretend that you're an adult and an informed one at that, have the basic facts at your disposal. Ambassador Stevens wasn't killed in an Embassy; he was killed in a U.S. Consulate located in Benghazi. You also seem to be suggesting that his death is more important than the deaths of the other 3 who lost their lives in Benghazi and the 53 who were killed at Embassies and Consulates while George W. Bush was president. I realize this is a game for you but make an effort to not come across as a total hack with no morals or ability to understand the bigger picture.

Just exactly as politico.com predicted in their 'If Romney Loses' article today (and, yes, before you get all worked up, they also had a 'If Obama Loses' article.

But in the one for Mr. Romney, they said it would only be a matter of hours before his supporters would start to blame the hurricane and the NJ Governor. According to their research, some Republicans have even told them they were secretly grateful to Sandy because it outlined a perfect thing to blame for their loss. Because they all knew last week that he would lose.

The Center For Immigration Studies (CIS) report titled 'Who Got Jobs During the Obama Presidency? Native and Immigrant Employment Growth, 2009 to 2012' reveal that, "since President Obama took office, 67 percent of employment growth has gone to immigrants (legal and illegal). This president, like those before him, has chosen not to reduce immigration despite the worst job market since the Great Depression."

You don't understand what a businessman is quite obviously. Romney did not create jobs. He's a vulture capitalist. His success relies on his ability to destroy jobs and "harvest" companies that he's leveraged to the hilt, all whilst enriching himself personally.

Your question isn't a valid question.

The Republican anti-democracy voting corruption machine is in high gear. Voter suppression will literally be available to watch in action. Ohio and Florida are two states to watch. In Republican leaning precincts, waiting to vote may take 30 minutes. In Democrat precincts comprized of union workers, Hispanics, and especially African Americans, waiting in line will be betweren four and eleven hours. These precincts have been purposely understaffed and underequipped intentionally to discourage, harass, and cause voters to just give up. Republicans are persuing dynamic voter supression in all Republican goverened swing states.

Republicans pay lip service to democracy and freedom, but obstruct it at every opportunity for partisan gain. Obama had a fillibuster proof Senate for his first 2.5 months. Ever since, every recovery bill sent to Congress ran into a brick wall. Then beginning in 2010, House Republicans refused to even discuss in committe the American Jobs Act, submitted in September 2011.

Republican ideology trashed the international economy. Their obstruction of legislation prolonged the recessions effects. Now they crow that President Obama has failed to fix all the damage they have brought down on the United States economy. However, the private sector is recovering from the Republican storm anyway, and they cannot stop it.

Republicans claim that they will finish the job. Intelligent voters know that the same policies, ideology, and Bush administration members will finish the job that they began in 2007. All voters have to do is load the economy back on the Republican Titanic and and enjoy the trip to the bottom, while half way accross the recovery ocean.

So the President thinks that he is like some sort of rock star. But we need a President who can fix the economy.

It's going to be fun watching liberals heads start exploding everywhere as Romney takes PA.

That eastern time zone state should be the initial inkling they are in for a very, very long night...

Father Forgive Them For They Know Not What They Do Luke 23:34.

Ryan and Romney say they believe in Hope and they believe in change.

We have seen these wolves in sheep's clothing before.

Let me warn you and let me warn the nation against the smooth evasion that says

“Of course we believe these things.

          We believe in Social Security.

We believe in work for the unemployed.

          We believe in saving homes.

Cross our hearts and hope to die, we believe in all these things.

But we do not like the way the present administration is doing them.

Just turn them over to us.

We will do all of them.

We will do more of them.

          We will do them better.

And most important of all, the doing of them will not cost anybody anything.”

          Vote Obama/Biden 2012!

Get Up!, Get Out! and Vote!

This is an example of the rabid hate of the incredibly ignorant and twisted fools on the lunatic right. Any relationship to American values is absolutely beyond the grasp of these proto-criminals.

I think his teleprompter will run the country assisted by the empty chair.

He'll be on the golf course.

Even Mitt is smart enough to use a teleprompter.

Oh that is nice. A sitting U.S. President rocking out to songs laced with curse words. I am sure there were some children there or adults who didn't want to listen to that.

          Nothing but class.
