Final national NBC/WSJ poll before Tuesday: Obama 48 percent, Romney 47 percent

Jason Reed / Reuters

President Barack Obama campaigns at McArthur High School in Hollywood, Fla. on Nov. 4, 2012.

With just two days until Election Day, President Barack Obama and Republican nominee Mitt Romney are running neck and neck nationally, according to the final national NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll before the election.

Obama gets support from 48 percent of likely voters, while Romney gets 47 percent.

Read the full poll here (.pdf)

A new NBC poll should give both presidential campaigns reason to hope. Obama comes in at 48 percent; Romney at 47 percent. Taking Sandy into account, 80 percent in the Northeast said they approved of the president's handling of Superstorm Sandy. NBC's Chuck Todd reports.

In the NBC/WSJ poll released two weeks ago, the two candidates were deadlocked at 47 percent each.

“This poll is reflecting a very, very close campaign nationally,” says Republican pollster Bill McInturff, who conducted this survey with Democratic pollster Peter D. Hart.

“It’s a dead heat,” Hart adds. “This election is going to be decided by turnout, turnout, turnout.”

While both Obama and Romney are running virtually even in this national poll, a majority of surveys from the battleground states – especially in the crucial battlegrounds of Iowa, Ohio and Wisconsin – show the president with a slight advantage.

A new NBC poll indicates the presidential race is in a dead heat. Meanwhile, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie may have given Obama a boost when he praised his leadership. NBC's Andrea Mitchell and David Gregory have more.

Good news for Obama: Two-thirds approve of hurricane handling
The NBC/WSJ poll – conducted Nov. 1-3 – contains good news for both Obama and Romney in the final days of the campaign.

For Obama, 41 percent of likely voters say that what they have read, heard, and seen over the past couple of weeks have given them a  more favorable impression of president, compared to 40 percent who said it had given them a less favorable impression – which is up from his 38-to-43 percent score on this question two weeks ago.

Read our memo on our 'likely voter' methodology (.pdf)

Both presidential candidates have spent months fighting over nine battleground states, but as the race draws to a close the Romney campaign is trying to expand the battlefield to states that have been reliably blue in recent years. Is this opportunity or desperation? DNC Executive Director Patrick Gaspard discusses.

Part of that more favorable impression is due to his handling of Hurricane Sandy, of which 67 percent of likely voters approve.

By comparison, 45 percent of voters say they have say they have a less favorable impression of Romney from what they have read, heard and seen over the past couple of weeks, versus 40 percent who have a more favorable view.

Yet two weeks ago – fresh off his debate performances – Romney’s score here was tied, 44 percent more favorable, and 44 percent less favorable.

In the latest NBC News/ WSJ poll President Barack Obama has an eight point lead among women, however Mitt Romney has an seven point lead among men. Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., joins NBC's Andrea Mitchell to talk about the gender gap.

Comparing 2012 to 2004
In addition, Obama’s numbers in this poll look almost identical to George W. Bush’s in the final NBC/WSJ before the 2004 presidential election, which Bush ended up winning 51 percent to 48 percent.

Obama’s approval rating among likely voters stands at 49 percent – exactly matching Bush’s 49 percent approval in the final 2004 NBC/WSJ poll.

Forty-two percent say the country is headed in the right direction, versus 41 percent who said the same thing in late Oct. 2004.

And the head-to-head score between Obama and Romney – 48 percent to 47 percent – is identical to what it was in the final NBC/WSJ poll before the 2004 election: Bush 48 percent, Democrat John Kerry 47 percent.

“The comparisons between 2004 and 2012 are haunting,” McInturff says.

Good news for Romney: Comfort level, the economy
The good news for Romney in this national poll is that 53 percent of likely voters are comfortable with the idea of him as president, which ties Obama’s percentage on this question (although 39 percent are “very comfortable” with Obama versus 26 percent who are “very comfortable” with Romney).

Also, Romney is ahead of Obama among independents, 47 percent to 40 percent.

And the former Massachusetts governor leads Obama by five points on which candidate is better prepared to create jobs and grow the economy, 47 percent to 42 percent.

However, a majority of voters in the survey – 52 percent – say the economy is recovering.

The NBC/WSJ poll was conducted Nov. 1-3 of 1,475 likely voters (including 443 cell phone-only respondents), and it has a margin of error of plus-minus 2.55 percentage points.

      "How Mitt Romney Does Business"

"In Utah, members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have been caught in multimillion-dollar Ponzi schemes and other forms of fraud conducted by fellow church-goers.

Deaf people, the Vietnamese, military families and co-workers also have been targeted. " The Salt Lake Tribune (First Published Dec 31 2010 03:33 pm)

This is how many "Mormons Do Business" - pretty similar to how Scientologist's do business. Lie, cheat, - say whatever it takes to win (with a clear conscience). Hmmm - sounds familiar.

Voters in swing states are evenly split between President Obama and GOP nominee Mitt Romney, according to a new poll from USA Today/Gallup.

The poll released late Sunday finds 48 percent of likely voters in the nation’s key battlegrounds backing Obama and 48 preferring Romney.

              MOvement !

The numbers show a 4-point bounce for Obama from the last USA Today/Gallup Poll of Swing States in early October, taken days after a disappointing first debate for the president.

                      President Obama- 306.4 electoral votes
                      and
                      Myth Romney - 231.6

And while republicans Will not win the Senate they might, MIGHT keep a slim majority in the house but if they do, many of them are going to be replaced because they've betrayed America by being bought out back stabbing Obstructionists Owned by big money backers that didn't do their job and think of and protect the people who sent them to Washington.

President Obama does not deserve another 4 years.

Liberals now say the president can't be blamed for the lousy recovery because he couldn't get his agenda enacted even when Democrats held a supermajority in Congress. And we should be confident in his leadership?

On the stump, Mitt Romney has started a new and very effective line of attack against Obama. "He got every piece of legislation he wanted passed, and it didn't work," Romney told Politico this week. "I think (voters) want someone who has a different record, and I do."

Paul Ryan used the same attack line in his first speech as Romney's VP pick. "No one disputes President Obama inherited a difficult situation," Ryan said. "And, in his first two years, with his party in complete control of Washington, he passed nearly every item on his agenda. But that didn't make things better."

The argument cuts to the core of Obama's claim that Republicans have stymied his ability to get anything done. Which is why the left is so intent on squashing it, even at the expense of making Obama look inept.

Talking Points Memo, an influential lefty opinion site, called Romney's claim "mostly ahistorical" and went on to say Republicans "used a record number of filibusters in the Senate to weaken — and in some cases thwart — large pieces of (Obama's) agenda." Well, not exactly.

TPM says, for example, that the Obama stimulus "had to be scaled down because (of) a GOP filibuster." But the final $830 billion stimulus bill Obama signed was almost identical in size to the one passed in the House, where the minority has no ability to filibuster.

And Obama then got another $3 billion for his Cash for Clunkers, a follow-on $17.6 billion "jobs" bill and $26 billion in additional state aide.

He also got Dodd-Frank, the auto bailouts, "green" energy loans, a student loan takeover and of course, ObamaCare.

Subscribe to the IBD Editorials Podcast

TPM complains that "Republican filibusters on health care reform ate up nearly a year of the Democrats' legislative time." So what? Democrats got the health care bill they wanted, using a series of parliamentary tricks to ram it through.

The real problem for Obama is that none of his policies lived up to its billing. Instead of 4% economic growth, more middle-class opportunities, lower insurance premiums and a thriving "green" energy sector, we have a stagnant economy, declining wages, rising insurance and energy prices, and $5 trillion more debt.

But let's say liberals were right, and the Republicans did manage to thwart "large pieces" of Obama's agenda. What does that say about Obama? Reagan, after all, was able to get his agenda through a Congress dominated by the other party.

Does the left really want to argue that Obama was such a pathetic leader that he couldn't get his policies enacted even with huge Democratic majorities in the House and Senate? And that because of this we should give him a second term?

No wonder liberals only want to talk about Todd Akin

I just realized that I forgot the other key issue with Mormonism — secrecy. Like it or not, the key Religions of The Book and other world religions are largely transparent. There may not be specific areas of a Church/Temple/Mosque that non-believers cannot enter, however, that’s different then completely shutting them out of the temple.

As with Scientology, the restriction on information to non-members (and even to certain members of the Religion) creates a lot of speculation about Mormonism.

To any of you that think a president can only win by the electoral vote, you don't know politics. President Bush happened to be a President that won from the popular vote. To say a man or woman can win with just electoral votes is telling others, they wouldn't need to vote. Sorry, not everyone is that dumb. You will also see that polls and the media mean nothing when Romney wins by a landslide. Just my thouht, and just so you know, I have picked the past five contenders to be President of the United States and they have been President. I am a Republican but I did pick Obama to win last election. Just my thought. Going with Romney/Paul on this election. Check back and see if I can keep a 100% in MY picks. The ranting and raving in here means nothing, other than to show your party line. Sorry for those that think different.

Putting those unrelated quotes next to each other is extremely dishonest.

                          And you know it.

It is truly amazing that any repuke dunce can be so braindead as to believe that slapped ass lyin Willardo, the Mexican Mormon Moron tax evading draft dodger has any plan to save our country. He should have said he was going to create 50 million jobs and have everyone working in his first 4 years. The dumb sheep that believe him without any plan to do so, except lower taxes on his criminal corporate masters, is a joke.

His campaign manager called him an Etch A Sketch player. He changes his lies daily, depending on which group he speaks to.

Obama showing true leadership in NJ and "Robmy" trying to get face time while helping to load a truck with water--maybe one case for the photographers? I felt sorry for him. The President will have this locked up by 9pm on Tuesday. Remember, the crazier the Republicans get only tells us they know they are losing.

Even lyin Willardo's Mexican daddy knew what he would be like when he grew up So he gave him his first name "Willardo" after the large movie rat. He gave him his middle name after an old baseball glove that they found in the family outhouse that was full of shxt. They shortened lyin Willardo's first name to Willard and their last name from Robberos to Romney when they smuggled little lyin Willardo over here from his birthplace in Tijuana.

He is now known by most people as Mitt Robme.

It is amazing how these right wing nuts believe that lyin Willardo, in any way is going to do anything but destroy our country again. He is going to eliminate regulations so that his corporate criminal masters can rob and steal from us once again as they did under Bush Bin Lyin and his criminal gang led by President Cheney.
