Ryan campaigns in traditionally blue Minnesota 2 days before election

Mary Altaffer / AP

Republican vice presidential candidate Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wis., and his wife Janna arrive at a campaign event on Sunday in Minneapolis.

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – In a sign that the Republican ticket is trying to expand the electoral map before Tuesday’s election, Paul Ryan held his first public campaign rally since being selected as Mitt Romney’s vice presidential pick in the traditionally blue state of Minnesota with just two days to go before Election Day.

Minnesota, you gonna help us win this election?” Ryan asked a nearly 6,500-person crowd in the Twin Cities.

Until recently, neither Ryan nor his running mate paid much attention to the North Star state, which President Barack Obama won in 2008 and which awards 10 electoral votes.

Supporters listen as Republican vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan attends a campaign event in Minneapolis, Minn. on Sunday.

Ryan and his wife, Janna, ate dinner in downtown St. Paul last week, and he held a fundraiser in Minneapolis on Oct. 13. But Sunday’s rally marks the first public event for either Ryan or Romney during the general election.

Speaking at an airport hangar at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport with about 48 hours before Election Day, Ryan asked Minnesotans to unite behind Romney-Ryan.

We could use your help, Minnesota. How about it? What do you say?” he said to cheers. “Look at this: Vikings for Romney-Ryan. Even Vikings fans and Packers fans can lie down together for this country.”

He even joked about how he is constantly confused for being from Minnesota.

Ryan said: “You know, as I travel around the country and this has been my story for years, in D.C., people say ‘Oh yeah, Ryan, you're that budget guy from Minnesota, right?’ I say, ‘No I’m from Wisconsin, close. We’re the Catholic deer hunters; they are the Lutheran deer hunters.”

It was Ryan’s largest solo campaign crowd to date and he fed off the energy in the state that borders his home state of Wisconsin.

You know this is a critical election. You know it's a critical moment. We can't handle four more years of this, and Minnesota, work with us. Join with us. Together we can do this. Two more days and we get America back on the right track you guys. Two more days!” Ryan said.

Sunday’s stop in the Twin Cities area is one of four events for Ryan as he also held events in Wisconsin and Ohio earlier in the day and will head to Colorado for a final rally tonight.

This is what is known as a "Hail Mary" pass!

Anyone know why Team Willard is already throwing Governor Christie under the magical mystery bus?

Don't you normally wait until AFTER you lose the election before you start to feast on your own? lol

Ryan is in MN because they know they lost Ohio and probably Florida. They don't want it to look so bad in a huge Electoral blowout win for Obama. Either that or Ryan is setting himself up for a quiet Clerk of the Court job in MN.........

I knew Romney wasnt allowed to answer any unscripted questions from reporters but just realized that Ryan is not allowed to do interviews either. These two pretenders want to lead this great Country yet are not smart enough to handle reporters questions. Pathetic. How can they possibly be smart enough for the job when their own handlers dont trust their good sense.

Karl Rove was banking on elections when Americans wouldn't stand up to his voter suppression and big $$$.

Well Rove, we have.

One of the most dangerous men in America and Americans have caught on.

From President Obama on down, we fought back.

In David Axelrod and David Plouffe and Jim Messina and OFA, we believe.

WHAT KIND OF AMERICA DO ***YOU*** WANT? AN "AMERICAN FAMILY"?? WHERE WE CARE ABOUT EACH OTHER???

OR THIS:

"ROMNEYISM"

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/robert-reich/romneyism_b_2069095.html?utm_hp_ref=politics

The ten guiding principles of Romneyism are:

1. Corporations are the basic units of society. Corporations are people, and the overriding purpose of an economy is to maximize corporate profits. When profits are maximized, the economy grows fastest. This growth benefits everyone in the form greater output, better products and services, and higher share prices.

2. Workers are a means to the goal of maximizing corporate profits. If workers do not contribute to that goal, they should be fired. If they cannot then find other work that helps maximize profits in another company, their wages must be too high, and they must therefore accept steadily lower wages until they find a job.

3. All factors of production -- capital, physical plant and equipment, workers -- are fungible and should be treated the same. Any that fail to deliver high competitive returns should be replaced or discarded. This keeps an economy efficient. Fairness is and should be irrelevant.

4. Pollution, unsafe products, unsafe working conditions, financial fraud, and other negative side effects of the pursuit of profits are the price society pays for profit-driven growth. They should not be used as excuses to constrain the pursuit of profits through regulation.

5. Individual worth depends on net worth -- how much money one has made, and the value of the assets that money has been invested in. Any person with enough intelligence and ambition can make a fortune. Failure to do so is sign of moral and intellectual inferiority.

6. People who fail in the economy should not be coddled. They should not receive food stamps, Medicaid, or any other form of social subsidy. Coddling leads to a weaker society and a weaker economy.

7. Taxes are inherently bad because they constrain profit-making. It is the right and responsibility of individuals and corporations to exploit every tax loophole they (and their tax attorneys) can find in order to pay the lowest taxes possible.

8. Politics is a game whose only purpose is to win. Any means used to win the game is legitimate even if it involves lying and cheating, as long as it gains more supporters than it loses.

9. Democracy is dangerous because it is forever vulnerable to the votes of a majority intent on capturing the wealth of the successful minority, on whom the economy depends. The rich must therefore do whatever is necessary to prevent the majority from exercising its will, including spending large sums of money on lobbyists and political campaigns. The most virtuous among the rich will go a step further and run for president.

10. The three most important aspects of life are family, religion, and money. Patriotism is a matter of guarding our economy from unfair traders and undocumented immigrants, rather than joining together for the common good. We owe nothing to one another as citizens of the same society.

.

On Tuesday we'll decide whether these should be the guiding principles of America.

.

IS THIS WHAT YOU WANT FOR AMERICA?

HECK NO, VOTE O & JOE! :-)

How in the world is the Koch Brothers and all their rich friends going to get the Billions they gave Romney back. When he looses Tue. They will have no way for Romney to give them no bid contracts like Cheney did for Halliburton. They can't build that pipe line from Canada to Tx. I guess for those that buy Koch Industry products will have to pay more. I am so happy the American people stood up to big business and are voting for President Obama. No one believes that the President was responsible for the mess the Rep's left behind after Little Bush and Cheney. No one really knows how bad it really was. Maybe its best we didn't know. But to be sure, It was really bad, so no one can really know What the President did to stop the job losses, Help the Auto industry get back on there feet, and get the country back on the right track. Romney said he will balance the budget in 10 years, while crying President Obama didn't do it in 4 years.

True Patriot...

Romney paid three million in taxes for 2011 income. He donated even more to charity.

How much did you pay???

How much did you give to charity???

    #1.19 - Sun Nov 4, 2012 8:33 PM EST

@oldfatguy... Governor Romney did give a lot to charity, that's one charity where the donations allowed him to defer his taxes for 15 years. He made donations through his blind trust and Ann's. The one charity is the LDS/Mormon Church. Tithing is required in LDS. I am a Christian and the story of old woman who gave only a penny all she had was Jesus teaching us that giving out of obligation vs from the heart and sacrifice is not charity or tithing. BTW: the tithes were not on cash but stocks/bonds/property etc. So how much somebody gave is not so much the amount but what they gave from their heart and sacrifice. The old woman gave a penny and Jesus said that was worth more than what the rich man gave because she gave all she had.

    Debbie...

Are you saying Romney did not give from the heart?

If so you are just another loony lib that will find fault with everything this man does.

Tithing is fairly well enforced at the LDS but he remains a member because of his heart. Compare his heart to that not of the old woman but Joe Biden.

Ole fat dude are you 1 funny girl?

I'm tied of it yes he's wealth you don't get it! sure he paid more money but by percentage I paid twice as Romney and also goes for charity!

Heres an example look at how election donors Obama has most of his campaign 25 dollars from 100,000 people = 250,000 dollars

    Romney's election donors multi-billionaires gave 250,000

See the difference! We all give!

Our President said that he would bring the nation together. That did not work.

Our President said that he could work with the opposition party by reaching across the isle. That did not work.

Our President said that his administration would be free from lobbyists. That did not work.

Our President said that his administration would be the most transparent ever. That did not work.

Our President said that he would fix the economy within three years. That did not work.

Our President said that his health care bill would lower health care costs. That did not work.

Our President said that he would not raise taxes on 95% of Americans in any way. That did not work.

Our President said that his stimulus spending bill would solve our employment problem. That did not work.

Our President said that he would cut the deficit in half by the end of his first term. That did not work.

I see a pattern here. Our President said that if he could not fix the economy within three year that he did not deserve a second term.

Ryan has been invisible and silent in the media..............it is as if Romney is trying to hide him just like he wishes Christie would disappear..........

Have respect for Christie as a governor (can't get over the republican thing, tho) and for what he is doing for the people of his state and for putting partisan crap in the crapper where it belongs...

America is purple....not blue and not red....purple mountains majesty...if you close your eyes you can see it.

Here is to a United America........the republicans keep pushing for a civil war between red and blue...enough already...enough!

Americans are not enemies of Americans.............and if that is how you believe what does that say about you..............red, white and blue....still comes out purple...

is it a sign that the medal for sacrifice of life or limb for service to our nation is the Purple Heart....

let us be of one political shade, let us be of total equality for all citizens....let us strive for the American Dream....let us be a part of a world that values life and peace above death and war................let us be mindful of the needs of others and be generous when the opportunity presents itself......

let us be the kind of nation, the kind of people that we should be and we can be..........

the wealth of a man is not measured in the money he has but in what he/she gives of themselves to others..............

it is time for a new chapter in American history...an evolution of self and selflessness.........a time to see beyond what a man can do for himself to a time where a man sees what he can do for others a well...........a time when man sees peace as the only outcome and sees the world, not as other nations outside our own, but as lands filled with people who care for their families and seek a life of dreams as we do...........it is a time to build a nation greater than the nation of yesterday..............it time for Americans to embrace words and actions like integrity, honor, credibility, charity, compassion, intelligence, peace, respect............it is time for our nation to walk toward the light and away from the dark................to see the good that can be instead of allowing the darkness to hold us captive.........

it is time........as a nation........as a people.........to be better, to be stronger, to be more compassionate, to be more respectful and considerate of others..........it is time, after over 200 years, for this nation to truly grow up and be great.

I'm so ready for this.........I grow weary of a childhood gone on too long...........our nation must grow and grow together....such things as working together and compromising are signs of strength and wisdom..........and we should be proud to take these steps.

I hope in my lifetime we can get beyond our petty greed and rage and become one nation...to me it seems like it should be so simple and yet it seems to be the last thing most people want.....

self destructive to a fault........as long as we have our greed and rage any enemies we may have need not work too hard for we have done all the work.

The Waterloo strategy employed by republican leadership is wrong on so many levels in so many ways that I will not even describe it as I have many times before. Not one republican stood up to their leadership to call them out on their intended neglect and conscious refusal to honor their oaths of office. This is the very reason I will very likely never vote for a republican for any office at any level of government ever again in my lifetime. These are elected officials who represent our nation at the very highest levels and a grunt in the military would be court marshaled for much less than they openly stated as their plan of action and number one priority as elected officials, they are freaking scum and that is all there is to it. There is no defense for their words and actions.

From what I've seen for the last 4 years all of them in rehab would get just as much work done. In Ohio we have Josh Mandel running again for Ohio Treasurer, he claims Ohio is doing good, unemployment is down, business are growing. That's funny because it's true but Romney on the other hand claims Ohio is suffering, Unemployment is as higher than when Obama took office, business are leaving the state and things will not get better if he is not elected as a matter of fact Romney claims things will get worse if he is not elected. Almost sounds like he has a plan to make things worse himself. I hear Bain Capital has been visiting some of our auto parts factories looking for good investments. Romney says Latin America is going to be the next China and he plans along with Bain to invest heavily in cheap labor. I'd like to see him in jail for trying to extort our vote.
        Obama/Biden 4ward.

To say Ryan believes he has a chance in MN is laughable. He is after Wisconsin coverage and that is all. 6,500? In other words, no one came except those that the Republican party dragged there.

Sorry, Paulie, we are on to that scam.

I pray to God Minnesota stands with Maine for President Obama. The Romneys and Ryans of this world think paying taxes and performing military duty during a time of war is for "other people." Romney talks about saving America, but when he and his five sons had the opportunity to serve in the military, they let other people do it for them, while they concentrated on growing their wealth. Naturally, though, they are big fans of threatening other countries with war.

Ryan used his father's Social Security death benefits to pay his college tuition, but when other people turn to the safety net, or look for help paying for school, the Republicans accuse them of not taking responsibilty for their lives. The hypocracy is unbelieveable.

Do not fear, MN is a blue state.

We will give our electoral count to Obama.

And we might have suprise with the 6th congressional district , the stomping ground of MB. Hoping Graves can pull it off. Bill Clinton will be stopping by to lend some support.

Progressive. We all know what the Rep's did. This election is all about know what the Rep's and Tea party people did. We all know what Koch Brothers and their rich friends did to this country because we dared to elect a half Black man to be President. David Koch thinks he is King of this country. Now that Romney has taken his Billions and has lost, David is wondering just how he is going to get his money back for him and his friends. They will try to get someone like little Scott Walker to give them some more power plants in WI to offset there losses, or buy off some congressman to pass a law allowing them to right off all that money or just give it all back to them and let the tax payers flip the bill. God forbid they use there money or should I say loose there money.

How is that House race working for Ryan? If he wins both races does he just give a big middle finger to the people who voted for his congressional seat?

He'll probably lose both races which will give him plenty of time to work on the magic budget of his.

The popular vote will be close because Romney will run up big margins in Texas and in the rural southern and western states. But Obama is going to win the electoral vote decisively. As soon as he reaches 188 EVs in the states east of the Mississippi, you can go to bed: Obama has a mortal lock on the 82 electoral votes of the three west coast states, Hawaii, and New Mexico.

This is probably the last general election that the Republicans can win by dominating the white vote, and they're going to come up short. It's not like they haven't pulled out all the stops, but unlimited spending, voter suppression legislation, and a shape-shifting, Being There candidate won't be enough.

This explains, but does not justify, the bitterness and rancor of the past four years. The Republican Party is a wooly mammoth trapped in tar pits of its own making. The death throes will be enraged -- unfounded accusations of voter fraud will commence the day after the election -- but that's what they will be.

I was there today. We were with hundreds lined up for the shuttle bus and learned, "it's full, you can listen from outside, you can hear but not see anything" - It was cold out and so, with an hour before Paul Ryan was due to speak, we and hundreds of others left. 6500 in the hanger, thousands heartier than we outside (wasn't that cold, we weren't dressed for 45 C) and hundreds -- maybe more, also turned away! That is momentum!

I read the President's economic plan for the next four years. The Plan is devoid of detail to include budget. It appears to be primarily a wish list. It seems that the President wants the federal government to spend a lot of money that it does not have to train math and science teacher's to teach vocational classes at the JC level for jobs that do not really exist in this country. Foreign manufacturers are paying their workers roughly a tenth of the minimum that our workers require and that is why they can always beat domestic manufactures on price. Neither candidate seems to have a solution for this problem. It is our huge trade deficit that is degrading efforts to revive the economy by injecting more money.

In many states, state colleges and universities are having to raise tuition to make ends meet because of tighter state budgets. The President wants to withdrew federal funding from these schools so that they either have to raise tuition even more or close down facilities. The President thinks that this effort will help improve the quality of education in America.

The President is expecting to pass his increased taxes on the "Rich". He has been trying to do that for the past four years but he somehow thinks the can prevail in the next 4 years. This tax will at best take 100 billion dollars per year from the private sector and put it into the public sector. The President promised that the 2012 federal deficit would not exceed 229.27 billion dollars yet the actual deficit exceeded 1.1 trillion dollars so his efforts to date to cut the deficit have been less than successful. He is proposing more spending and unspecified cuts and which has been provided it is impossible that any actually deficit reduction will take place. So I am looking at a nominal annual deficit of 1 trillion dollars assuming the increased taxes on the "rich" passes.

At the heart of the President's plan is the idea of bringing the troops home in 2014 and with the savings use half of it to start paying down our debt and use the other half for infrastructure improvements. To start paying down the debt the federal government has to run a surplus. To run a surplus with half of the piece dividend, the federal government will have to realize a savings of more than 2 trillion dollars per year from bringing the troops home. That amount is more than twice a s much as we are paying for defense including all overseas operations. The President's plan is mathematically impossible. Mathematically impossible plans are at the least less than viable. The President's plan is an example of fantasy economics.

My biggest concern is all the debt that our federal government has been accumulating. With a debt or more than 16 trillion dollars and huge deficits predicted for at least another decade, I estimate that the money that the federal government is borrowing today will end up costing the tax payers more than 10 times the amount borrowed to repay over the next 180 years. Paying 10 times the going rate for goods and services is not good management. The President has yet to present a detailed plan for repaying the debt. The tax payers have a right to know how much all of this federal borrowing to going to end up costing them.

I remeFmber how I took the easy way and went to Vietnam in 1968 and how Mitt made the real sacrifice by choosing to go to France and protect our way of life from those evil Frenchmen who, i am sure was about to invade our eastern shores. The picture of Mitt, tired, and beaten laying of that French beach is the true picture of an American who was willing to give his all to try and educate those godless heathens in France. To know, even while he was giving so much he was behind me all the way makes my heart all warm and fuzzy. And now, just as their father did the Romney sons are following in their daddys footsteps. They realize we have enough grunts on the ground. What we need is brave warriors to join wall street, thats where the real danger is. Thank God for the Romney men i sure know i will sleep well knowing that they are looking out for us.

uninformed voters ( never dreamed they would get this much support). For a man
that got rich outsourcing our jobs and doesn't believe the rich need to pay
taxes it falls in line with those trying to buy him the election. Romney's style
of business experience is what got us here in the first place. Wake up America,
do some research and see who this man really is and look at who's trying to buy
the election for him. More of the agenda of Big Oil, Big Banks and Wall
