Romney strikes optimistic tone as final weekend opens

NEWINGTON, NH — Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney struck an upbeat note as he opened the final weekend of his campaign in the state where he launched his campaign more than 16 months ago.

"I've got a clear and unequivocal message for you: America is about to come roaring back," Romney told a chilly crowd of more than 1,000 supporters gathered to see him off for a busy Saturday of campaigning.

Romney also thanked the Granite State for its support in the Republican primary, and said they would be key to his presidential aspirations on Tuesday. The latest NBC/WSJ/Marist poll, released this week, shows Romney locked in a statistical dead heat here against President Barack Obama; the president leads 49 to 47 percent among likely voters, within the poll's margin of error.

"New Hampshire got me the Republican nomination and New Hampshire is going to get me the White House," Romney said to cheers.

From here, Romney campaigns across Iowa and Colorado on Saturday, with a packed Sunday schedule to follow that also takes him to four battleground states. Romney will next return to New Hampshire on Monday, but left behind today a team of top surrogates to barnstorm the state in his absence: Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, South Dakota Sen. John Thune, who joined New Hampshire Sen. Kelly Ayotte in introducing Romney here this morning.

Romney shortened his typical stump speech this morning, but left room for a critique of Obama, telling his audience here that "talk is cheap," and that the president "wants to convince you to settle."

"Americans don’t settle – we dream, we aspire, we reach for greater things," Romney said. "And we will achieve greater things with new leadership. "

A number of pollsters are beginning to move towards more rational numbers and it will not surprise me to see them in the same territory as Sam Wang or Nate Silver in the next few days. Sam and Nate have their reputations to uphold, the others also have their pocket books online.

Princeton Election Consortium and Sam Wang … the EC vote numbers as of 10 a.m.-

Obama 323

Romney 215

BCWC 0 (proof of undeniable accuracy)

“A few days ago, the word was that Team Romney was buying ads in Minnesota and Pennsylvania. If he wins either of those states I will eat a bug. Ohio...a really big bug. And yes, I will post a photo.”

R-money says talk is cheap.

He should know. Every day he talks, he reverses his position...and it doesn't cost a thing.

There was a reason that during the primaries, the republicons put up a parade of clowns against him...and they all led at one time.

Bachman...Perry...Cain...Trump...Gingrich...and finally, Santorum.

Even the republicons know that it's anybody but R-money.

Talk is cheap?

LA Times/1990:
Barack Obama stares silently at a wall of fading black-and-white photographs in the muggy second-floor offices of the Harvard Law Review. He lingers over one row of solemn faces, his predecessors of 40 years ago. All are men. All are dressed in dark-colored suits and ties. All are white.

It is a sobering moment for Obama, 28, who in February became the first black to be elected president in the 102-year history of the prestigious student-run law journal. The post, considered the highest honor a student can attain at Harvard Law School, almost always leads to a coveted clerkship with the U.S. Supreme Court after graduation and a lucrative offer from the law firm of one's choice.

Yet Obama, who has gone deep into debt to meet the $25,000-a-year cost of a Harvard Law School education, has left many in disbelief by asserting that he wants neither.

"One of the luxuries of going to Harvard Law School is it means you can take risks in your life," Obama said recently. "You can try to do things to improve society and still land on your feet. That's what a Harvard education should buy-enough confidence and security to pursue your dreams and give something back."

After graduation next year, Obama says he probably will spend two years at a corporate law firm, then look for community work. Down the road, he plans to run for public office. Once he left school, he went to work in Chicago as a community organizer.

Joe Klein/Time Magazine 2008:
Obama was working for a group of churches that were concerned about their parishioners, many of whom had been laid off when the steel mills closed on the south side of Chicago. They hired Obama to help those stunned people recover and get the services they needed–job training, help with housing and so forth–from the local government. It was, dare I say it, the Lord’s work–the sort of mission Jesus preached (as opposed to the war in Iraq, which Palin described as a “task from God.”)

Meet Barack Hussein Obama. Our President. He believes in family values, hard work, education and most important – giving back, especially to communities.

To set the record straight about Benghazi -

For all the right-wing nuts out there, just published official CIA records prove that CIA in Libya sent in help to Ambassador Stevens within 25 minutes of receving call for help in Benghazi. But since the mob gathered so fast and took action before help arrived, the ambassador lost his life for this great country, but CIA help did save most others' lives, otherwise the situation would have been worse.

This should be enough to refute right-wing nuts' assertion that the administration didn't act fast enough.

.

BTW, when terrorists bombed marine barracks in Beirut in 1983 and killed 240 marine, nobody blamed Reagan who was overwhelmingly re-elected in 1984.

Good morning Feisty and friends.

Mitt Romney is your typical corporate America candidate. Demean whenever possible.

What people like Romney will never learn is that you don't start from the board room and work your way down. You start in the communities and raise up. Otherwise, you have nothing to offer working people. And Romney had nothing to offer to working people.

Here's hoping some of these tea party candidates lose.

Today's GOP show respect to no one, not even to those who vote for them.

Romney it is you who is the fool. And Barack Obama will earn a second term. Something the GOP and inside the beltway pundits never thought possible.

And if anyone out there was able to get through the status quo - it was Nate Silver.

It will be good to get away from the DC crowd punditry. They're not my cup of tea. They all think alike and it's not what Americans are looking for any longer.

We're looking for progressive journalism, not status quo safe journalism.

Perhaps there will come a day when most pundits won't be afraid to stand up to the GOP.

We're not waiting any longer. We're moving on.

Bloomberg is getting a free pass. He turned down FEMA help from President Obama before the storm arrived.

From Nate Silver a couple hours ago regarding the potential for "biased polls"

Yes, of course: most of the arguments that the polls are necessarily biased against Mr. Romney reflect little more than wishful thinking.

Nevertheless, these arguments are potentially more intellectually coherent than the ones that propose that the race is "too close to call." It isn't. If the state polls are right, then Mr. Obama will win the Electoral College. If you can't acknowledge that after a day when Mr. Obama leads 19 out of 20 swing-state polls, then you should abandon the pretense that your goal is to inform rather than entertain the public.

But the state polls may not be right. They could be biased. Based on the historical reliability of polls, we put the chance that they will be biased enough to elect Mr. Romney at 16 percent.

I'll take it. I love smart people.

Ida Mae Gladney, who in 1937 left sharecropping and prejudice in Mississippi for Chicago, where she achieved quite blue-collar success and, in old age, voted for Barack Obama.

Police Beat 421, Ward Seven, State Representative District 25, and State Senate District 13. The office holders of the latter two districts rarely figure into the daily concerns of most people in Chicago.

So when, in 1996, a young constitutional lawyer and community activist from Hyde Park ran for the Illinois State Senate seat in District 13, Ida Mae, voting her usual straight Democratic ticket, would become among the first people ever to have voted for the man. she would not have to give it much thought. He did not have Chicago roots and the name was unusual - Barack Obama. But he was running unopposed, having edge out the woman who had asked him to run in her place before changing her mind.

On August 14, 1997, exactly one month before Alderman Beavers shows up with cameras and lights at Ida Mae's beat meeting, Barack Obama makes an appearance. He is introduced as the state senator for the district, which not everyone in the room could be expected to know, as he has only been in office since January. He is tall, slight of build, formal in speech and attire, looks like a college student, and he arrives without lights, cameras, or entourage.

He stands before them and gives a minilecture to these bus drivers, secretaries, nurse's aides and pensioners about what state legislators do. He says that while the state legislature is not responsible for the police department, it passes laws that the police have to enforce. He describes the role of the legislature in education policy and in health care. And he invites those assembled to call his office anytime.

Ida Mae and the rest of the people listen politely and with appreciation. But, as this is just another meeting, they sit in anticipation of the reason they are here tonite: the discussion with police...

The 36 year old freshman state senator finishes his presentation to Beat 421. The people clap with gratitude as they always do and then turn back to their hot sheets.

That night, as he bounded up the steps and out of the church basement, nobody in the room could have imagined that they had just seen the man who, a decade from now, would become the first black president of the United States.

Pigotry To set the record straight about Benghazi -

According to the senior intelligence official:

CIA officials in Libya sent a security team to the consulate within 25 minutes of the report of the attack

There was no second-guessing of decisions made on the ground and no order to anybody to stand down in providing support. "At every level in the chain of command, from the senior officers in Libya to the most senior officials in Washington, everyone was fully engaged in trying to provide whatever help they could,"

Obama should certainly be included as one of the "most senior officials in Washington." He, therefore, must have been "fully engaged" in less than 25 minutes.

Obama said, “The minute I found out what was going on, I gave three very clear directives -- Number 1, make sure that we are securing our personnel and doing whatever we need to.”

So, less than 26 minutes after the start of the attack, our Commander-in-Chief ordered "make sure that we are securing our personnel and doing whatever we need to.” We had plenty of military assets in the Middle East, AC-130U Gunships, attack helicopters, counter-terrorism teams etc. They had 7 hours 46 minutes in which to help secure our personnel. And they did nothing?? The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the commander of U.S. Africa Command and the commander of U.S. European Command all ignored a direct order from the Commander-in-Chief, and did nothing? Hard to believe ...

Additionally, did you note that absolutely no one mentioned in the statement by a "senior intelligence official" had a name. The classic hallmark of a bureaucratic coverup.

TAKE IT TO THE BANK…ROMNEY WINS OHIO!!!

Ohio IS a Republican state PERIOD!

41 of the last 49 years Ohio has had a Republican Governor.

The Ohio House and Senate are overwhelmingly Republican.

Every ELECTED Ohio Supreme Court Judge is Republican, 1 D. Justice Brown was APPOINTED

In the 88 Counties of Ohio, has about 750 elected officials and 600 are Republican.

Since 1960 Ohio has voted correctly in every presidential election.

In 1992 Ohio voted for Bill Clinton running against a failing Bush, Ohio chose the more viable candidate.

In 1996 Ohio voted for Bill Clinton running against Bob Dole, Ohio chose the more viable candidate.

In 2008 Ohio voted for Barack Obama because John McCain would not work with local Republicans, Ohio voted for the more viable candidate.

When you give Ohio NO option, Ohio will vote Democrat.

October 3rd 2012 Mitt Romney proved he was the ONLY option for Ohio in 2012!

Absentee votes: Comparing 5 days before the election in 2008 and 5 days before election in 2012. Democrat absentee votes are 270,000 short of 2008 and Republican absentee votes are plus 65,000.

Independent votes: All polls conducted for Independent voters show no less than a 10% advantage to Romney.

SmBusOwnerinNY - They were left helpless by Obama to start with.

Ambassador Stevens believed strongly that an attack was likely, and made multiple unambiguous requests for additional security in Libya.

In June 2012, the Consulate in Benghazi, Libya was damaged by an improvised explosive device. Stevens reported to his superiors that an Islamist group (Ansar al-Shariah?) had claimed credit for the attack. Shortly after that a British Embassy convoy in Benghazi was also attacked. And again, Ambassador Stevens requested more security forces for Benghazi.

Karen Keshap and Shawn P. Crowley, State Department employees, as well as Eric Nordstrom the State Department's Regional Security Officer, all made multiple complaints about the inadequate security in Benghazi. Crowley, had even apologized in an email for "being a broken record" on the subject of inadequate security in Benghazi.

In response to all these requests, the Obama Administration refused to increase security at the US Consulate in Benghazi, at all.

On the morning of September 11, Ambassador Stevens signed a three-page cable, labeled "sensitive," in which he noted "growing problems with security" in Benghazi. As before, he was ignored.

What is the latest from Governor Romney on Benghazi?

Nothing.

But hey the simple fact that the Republican candidate for President has not uttered a word about this all-important topic for the past 3 weeks doesn't seem to dawn on those with their caps lock on and hair aflame...

Why aren't you calling out Governor Romney and Rep. Ryan for this BLACKOUT? If this issue was even the least bit true and was the indictment of the President's leadership your screaming as loudly as you can , why doesn't Governor Romney say it?

Anyone who understands politics can tell you that the reason why the candidates won't touch it with a ten foot pole and this is left to surrogates, and the right leaning press is that it is just something to use to fire up the fringe, and that's you guys.

While complaining that the MSM isn't covering your issue, you fail to call out your candidate for his silence. You are being manipulated, and the undeniable proof is the silence from the one person who could supposedly benefit the most...

I know it's hard to admit, but face the facts; If it was anything more than manipulation Governor Romney would be calling the President out from the rooftops instead of being MUTE on the topic.

Now I have to give my friends daughter her laptop and slog through what's left of her home...

If Republicans are hopeful, it's only because they are counting on voter suppression -- especially in swing states like Florida and Ohio. It's so blatant one would think this would be put to an end, as if 2000 and 2004 weren't bad enough already.

But really, The Twilight Republican Zone is friggin' mind-bending. FAUX Noise reported that Bloomberg endorsed Romney and not President Obama, like WTF?! If you Google Bloomberg's Endorsement 2012, the page fills with stories from credible news sources about Bloomberg endorsing the president. And it's not just one reason like climate change, Bloomberg has a long list of reasons why the president is superior to Mitt, which is topped off with one major concern -- Romney's many flip flops!

So good ole Mitt and his supporters, what will they do after they lose the election? Will they have a Come to Jeebus Meeting about their failed platform?

Maybe how giving a fertilized egg the same full rights as a living breathing woman so that all abortion and some contraception is illegal is a bit too fringe?

Maybe Republicans suppressing the non-partisan CRS Report showing tax breaks for the rich DON'T help the economy, and in fact only creates increased inequity?

Maybe how the Romney/Ryan ticket is the WORST ticket ever in regard to foreign policy credentials? Mitt, you knew you wanted to be POTUS -- You should have served in the military, you should have studied more topics than ways to rip off other people including GM .

Maybe how the economy has managed to improve despite nonstop Republican obstructionism? Oh, you can just see McConnell and Boehner's butts burning as the economy continues to improve.

Romney thinks he can wrap up his crap with a pretty bow and present it as a "fresh start," but independent-thinking Americans know damn well that Romney/Ryan are proposing the same failed policies of the GOP/Bush-era -- on steroids. Puleeze, they need fact checkers -- they need to face the truth. Don't reward the lies!

Sure, Kannin, Obama had a plan since June to let Stevens die in Bengazi....because that serves him, how? So that Darrell Issa can try to impeach him over it? ...that's why I mention Monica and Clinton.

Mess ups happen. If Stevens knew Bengazi was such a problem, then why did he go there? ...(because he didn't think it was that bad)

It was a tragic mistake, but you can't lay it at the feet of Obama. I've seen plenty of Monday-morning quarterbacking on the real 9/11, and that holds a lot more water than this....and 3000 people on American soil died.

Good afternoon all

Romney Strikes Optimistic Tone-As-Final Weekend Pitch?????

I can't stay long I have a class this afternoon. I would like for everyone to peruse this video.

Ohio Romney Rally - Interviews with Supporters

http://goo.gl/PntUO

These are the low information voters who will attempt to take our country back to the Pre -Civil War, Guilded Age, and JIM Crow days . They cannot articulate not one thing Romney stands for except platitudes of being a business man. Little do they know he is a vulture capitalist and care not about America; otherwise MYTH's money wouldn't be sitting in offshore account. They also are unaware of all the J-O-B-S he out-shored. Forget his possible felonies.

They believe drones are circling in their back yards, President Obama has Buddhist taking our freedom away, and a hold host of other ignorant mumbo jumbo.

This video is hilarious; but it shouldn't be. Thomas Jefferson said we can preserve democracy only with a fully informed electorate. I can't believe how ignorant these people are to MYTH's intention.

MYTH, if these are the people you are counting on I seriously doubt if they can even find themselves to the nearest polling place; not to mention complete absentee ballots.

Please read the latest timeline of events in Benghazi

The ex-Seals were CIA and the compound/consulate was a CIA hub for intelligence gathering. There was no 'stand down' order and help was sent from Tripoli but they arrived too late. Some news outlets (AP, NYT, Wa-Po) were aware of the Seal-CIA connection but agreed not to publish it as requested by government officials.

Mitt Romney has proven that he will lie whenever it is to his advantage or he has no other way to win a state such as Ohio. Romney threw GM and Chrysler under the bus with his lies about them. When fact checkers said he was not telling the truth here, he decided to run ads with the same lie on TV and radio. When Chrysler and GM said he wasn't telling the truth about them, he continued to run the deceptive ads in Ohio. When Ohio newspapers and TV station news said Romney wasn't telling the truth here, Romney continued to run the ads.

Apparently, Mitt Romney will stick with his lies even when challenged. Sometimes, a statement can be corrected to be more truthful. Romney chooses instead to continue with the lie. Here is a man so stubborn that he refuses to admit he was mistaken. This is not a man who should fill the most powerful position on the face of the Earth.

Romney fails the test of integrity and honesty.

Romney fails the test of leadership.

I, for one, will never trust this man, and I'm certain that many others will never trust this man. His word is worthless and that is a very sad state of affairs. Republicans should be embarrassed that they have put forward such a dishonest man as their candidate for President.

Independent Thought -- Let's just use Florida as a case in point (again). Florida has already had problems with machines, incorrect purges and/or mailings, and a whole list of incompetency. Add to this the 10-page ballot filled with Republican crap (on purpose), the early voting lines have been taking as much as four (4) hours to vote. Many voters can't take that much time and have to leave. WTF is that if it isn't voter suppression?

And the blatant part about douchebags like Husted in Ohio, is Rick Scott's refusal to extend voting. He said it would be "illegal" like what a crock of crap to say promoting democracy is somehow illegal? Republican governors before him like Crist made sure people could vote. But gees, then President Obama won, and Rick Scott's not about to help with that.

We need to take elections out of the hands of the states, and make voting a standardized, consistent and regulated process nationwide -- Period!

Romney/Ryan and the entire Republican riff-raff will only further weaken our country on every level one can imagine. Enough, and no I won't reply to you and your Republican Zone drivel again.

What a Romney Victory Would Mean

First of all, MYTH won't win.

However, with Election Day now upon us, it's worth weighing the impacts of a Mitt Romney win. Especially when it comes to what some possible scenarios could be:

a)the Supreme Court gets more anti-choice

b) planned Parenthood loses federal funding

c) healthcare reform gets overturned, there's no more co-pay-free birth control, there are stricter limits on federal funding for abortions

d) the Global Gag Rule returns

e)parental consent laws are federalized

f)reproductive rights and healthcare

g) seems likely to cater to the extreme anti-choice faction of his party

i) hospitals are allowed to deny women access to abortion, even if their lives are in danger

k) endless wars with lucrative no bid contracts to his

l) tax cuts for the plutocrats

m) no regulations for FDA, OSHA, etc

n) elimination of federal funds to FEMA

Of course, they are others to add to this exhausted list; but it's easy to see with those why MYTH is toast!

MYTH stop lyin to your minions you will not bring change; unless you are talking about changing Progress to Regress.

I don't think he was lying, but here, I've got a reason for you why he wouldn't hype it....Obama isn't a fear-mongering jerk, like Bush was.

Validating TERORRISTS and showing that America is AFRAID of them EMPOWERS them. It served NO PURPOSE to fan the TERORRIST ATTACK flame. If it was a terrorist attack, it was. What difference does it make to make a bigger deal about it if it was? There was plenty of attention to it already.

What advantage would it be to CALL it a terrorist attack? (none)

What advantage is there to HIDE it? (none)

What's the issue?

assumptions. Two assumptions two results

You twist and spin what people say to try and turn the advantage to you, I'm not playing your game homie.

Let me rephrase...

The big problem with your CBO's assumption and "2 RESULTS"....

You The CBO has have 1 big constant in the equation....Obama

Same president, same result.

Sorry to have confused you, it should be perfectly clear now...it's a shame I had to waste the time to make it clear enough so you couldn't SPIN it.

#1.83 - Sat Nov 3, 2012 2:45 PM EDT

Ticked,

Nice spin, but empowering terrorists IS a bad idea. Obama avoided that when the situation was UNCLEAR.

Once it was clear, even if it was 12 hours later, what advantage is there to HIDE it? Again, Obama is not like BUSH. BUSH would have USED it to his ADVANTAGE, the HELL with whether it is good for America. Obama--not like that. The SMART thing to do is to let it lie. It was YOU GUYS who fanned those flames.

I don't remember Democrats blaming Reagan for the 240 killed in Lebanon, or the 10 embassies that were attached duing Bush II. Now you're all up in arms.

Who's politicizing?

If Obama benefited from keeping it quiet, why is it that he's getting constant grief? Well here you go genius--because he DIDN'T hide it. It's all out there for you conspiracy theorists to pontificate about. There ARE no secrets.

Updated for Noon EST on Saturday, November 3, 2012:

*** Spoiler alert: The overnight numbers from both RCP and FiveThirtyEight broke quickly, repeatedly, and decidedly in President Obama's favor.

---------------------------------------------------------

Real Clear Politics (RCP) consistently has been the "go-to" source for accurate averaged daily polling data for both FOXNEWS and NBCNEWS. With only 60 hours left to go in the 2012 presidential campaign, RCP continues to report that Obama holds increasing leads in eight of their 11 toss-up states while Romney clings to smaller and more static leads in the remaining three.

In descending order of 'percentage of lead' in favor of Obama, followed in ascending order of 'percentage of lead' in favor of Romney, here are the published averaged numbers from RCP as of Noon EST together with the most recent FiveThirtyEight election night probabilities of victory for either candidate:

In WISCONSIN, with 10 electoral votes, Obama's lead has risen to 5.4%, up from 5.0% on Friday. FiveThirtyEight currently gives Obama a 94.2% chance of victory here, up by 0.9% overnight and by an astounding 8.5% since Tuesday.

In PENNSYLVANIA, with 20 electoral votes, Obama's lead is holding at 4.6%. FiveThirtyEight currently gives Obama a 96.6% chance of victory here, up by 0.5% overnight and by a respectable 2.5% since Tuesday.

In MICHIGAN, with 16 electoral votes, Obama's lead has risen to 3.5%, up from 3.0% on Friday. FiveThirtyEight currently gives Obama a 98.6% chance of victory here, up 0.2% overnight and by 0.5% since Tuesday.

In OHIO, with 18 electoral votes, Obama's lead has risen to 2.9%, up from 2.6% on Friday. FiveThirtyEight currently gives Obama an 83.8% chance of victory here, up by 3.1% overnight and by an astonishing 10.5% since Tuesday.

In NEVADA, with 6 electoral votes, Obama's lead has risen to 2.7%, up from 2.4% on Friday. FiveThirtyEight currently gives Obama an 88.7% chance of victory here, up by 1.5% overnight and by an astounding 9.0% since Tuesday.

In IOWA, with 6 electoral votes, Obama's lead has risen to 2.0%, up from 1.3% on Friday. FiveThirtyEight currently gives Obama an 80.7% chance of victory here, down interestingly by 0.9% overnight but up overall by a substantial 6.8% since Tuesday.

In NEW HAMPSHIRE, with 4 electoral votes, Obama's lead has risen to 1.8%, up from 1.3% on Friday. FiveThirtyEight currently gives Obama an 80.4% chance of victory here, up by 1.7% overnight and by an astonishing 10.1% since Tuesday.

In COLORADO, with 9 electoral votes, Obama's lead has risen to 1.0%, up from 0.9% on Friday. FiveThirtyEight currently gives Obama a 67.9% chance of victory here, up by 2.2% overnight and by an astronomical 12.5% since Tuesday.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

In VIRGINIA, with 13 electoral votes, Romney's lead has fallen to 0.3%, down from 0.5% on Friday. Interestingly, FiveThirtyEight increased Obama's chance of victory here (and not Romney's) to 67.0%, up 2.2% overnight. Nate Silver must be seeing something...

In FLORIDA, with 29 electoral votes, Romney's lead has risen to 1.4%, up from 1.2% on Friday. FiveThirtyEight currently gives Romney a 54.8% chance of victory here, but this margin is actually down a stunning 9.9% from Tuesday.

It should be noted that RCP's average in Florida does appear to have been hyper-inflated by two recent outlier findings in favor of Romney, the first a 6.0% margin today from the unapologetically right-leaning Mason-Dixon Group with localized results for only the two cities of Tampa Bay (site of the 2012 RNC) and Miami (Marco Rubio stronghold), the second a 3.0% margin from Gravis Marketing, a polling firm funded in large part by BAIN Capital, and an appreciably older finding by The Sunshine State News, an ultra-conservative website/blog which had Romney leading by 5.0% on October 24. Minus the influencesof these extreme outliers, Romney's true lead is likely well under 1.0% and quite possibly closer to that of dead heat. Ah, Florida....

In NORTH CAROLINA, with 15 electoral votes, Romney's lead is holding at 3.8%. FiveThirtyEight currently gives Romney a 79.6% chance of victory here, down 0.3% overnight.

So...

In order for Obama to win re-election the least complex route would be through maintaining his current lead in the five toss-up states where his existing margins are widest (Wisconsin at 5.4%, Pennsylvania at 4.6%, Michigan at 3.5%, Ohio at 2.9%, and Nevada at 2.7%). Doing so would bring his electoral vote total on Election Day to 271. In this scenario, Obama could still surpass 270 while failing to hold Iowa, New Hampshire, and Colorado.

However, should Obama fail to hold the strategic prize of Ohio, the loss could effectively be neutralized by any of the following combination of wins from states where FiveThirtyEight is currently forecasting Obama victories:

Path #1: Obama loses Ohio but holds the remaining three states where he presently leads, New Hampshire, Iowa, and Colorado resulting in 272 electoral votes.

Path #2: Obama loses Ohio but steals Virginia while also taking only one state from among New Hampshire, Iowa, or Colorado resulting in 270, 272, or 275 electoral votes, respectively.

Interestingly, with Romney's lead having diminished significantly in Florida over the past two weeks and with Hurricane Sandy forcefully highlighting the stark contrast between the candidates regarding the value and necessity if not the mere existence of FEMA in a state which has perhaps the greatest dependence on federal storm relief efforts in the nation, a 3rd path has now emerged which could provide for some interesting election night television:

Path #3: Obama comes from behind at the wire to win Florida. This scenario would require only that Obama win the three states in which his present leads are widest (Wisconsin at 5.4%, Pennsylvania at 4.6%, and Michigan at 3.5%), resulting in 276 electoral votes.

For Romney to unseat Obama, he not only would have to hold the three states in which he presently leads, Florida, North Carolina, and Virginia bringing his electoral vote total to 248, but also steal victories in both Colorado where Obama's lead rose Friday to 1.0% and in either Ohio (where Obama's lead today is 2.9%, up from Friday's 2.6%) or in Pennsylvania (where Romney's campaign suggested earlier this week that Obama's significant lead of 4.6% may be vulnerable). By so doing, Romney's electoral vote total would reach 275 or 277, respectively.

Romney's newfound "Pennsylvania Strategy," however, may be a highly-marketed feint designed to counter Obama's anticipated re-allocation of campaign resources to a quantifiably softening political landscape in Florida.

In any event, should Romney fail to steal either Ohio or Pennsylvania he could overcome this shortfall by capturing the four other states in which Obama's current leads are smallest (Colorado at 1.0%, New Hampshire at 1.8%, Iowa at 2.0%, and Nevada at 2.7%) resulting in an electoral vote total of 273.

FiveThirtyEight this morning estimates the chance of Election Day victory for each candidate as follows: Obama 83.7% (up markedly from Friday morning's 80.9%) and Romney 16.3% (down markedly from Friday's 19.1%).

FiveThirtyEight now also projects that on Election Day the final electoral tally will be as follows: Obama 305 (up 6 from Wednesday's 299) and Romney 233 (down 6 from Wednesday's 239).

Lastly, although it makes no difference in terms of the final result which can only be determined by the Electoral College, FiveThirtyEight currently predicts a national popular vote distribution on Election Day as follows: Obama 50.6% (up from Thursday's 50.4%) and Romney 48.4% (down from Thursday's 48.6%).

With only 60 hours of campaigning left, and with Friday's published October jobs report playing to predictably mixed reviews (economy adding more jobs than expected; unemployment rate ticking up one tenth of one percent to 7.9%), holdout voters may now be left to nothing more than the proverbial 'feel in their gut' as Tuesday approaches.

Mow the yard and stock up on popcorn today, people....Tuesday night is gonna be a whirlwind!

He stood up on the stage at the DNC and told millions of Americans that "Osama Bin-Laden was dead and Al-Qaeda was on it's heels"

Now on Sept 11th Al-Qaeda attacks and kills 4 Americans in Benghazi on the Anniversary of 9/11

IF YOU CANT GET THAT THEN THERE'S NO HOPE FOR YOU!!!

Beverly in Chicago

I can't stay long I have a class this afternoon.

ROTFLMAO!!!!!!

You may want to skip the next few "Tin-Foil Hat" classes you're attending, it seems they're tightening yours a bit too much.

Only the convoluted, limp-wristed, Liberal, bobblehead mind can accept anything you say to make sense.

Barrack Hussein has divided this nation more than the pre-Civil War era, created more unsustainable debt, created more low-wage paying jobs than were lost and has no plan for the future other than to tax your favorite bogeyman, the rich.

This isn't policy, this is statist ideology and you know it. The sad part is, you accept it. You Liberals accept Barrack Husseins class-warfare meme and submit to his intended mediocrity.

They also are unaware of all the J-O-B-S he out-shored.

Hmmmm, OK, I'll play.

Once again, I challenge you to tell me exactly how many, with a verifiable source, J-O-B-S he out-shored?

Don't bother, we all know you can't. It's just another indoctrinated talking point by Barrack Hussein, Debbie Whatsername Slutz or the DNC that you allow yourself to submit to. Be careful how you answer this because I can pretty much tell you how many J-O-B-S our "J-O-B-S C-Z-A-R", Jeff Immelt has outsourced and offshored for GE.

Funny isn't it, you continually blather about things you have no facts for but ignore our own administrations outsourcing record.

Hypocrisy? You betcha!

Barrack Husseins pre-election record of governance and business knowledge is well known. A few picnics in Chicago as a community organizer and writing a couple books, about himself no less.

Compared to Romneys governance in Massachusetts, his saving the Olympics and, as Bill Clinton described it, his "sterling business career".

Barrack Hussein will lose, because real Americans believe in American exceptionalism, not in mediocrity that he advocates.

Yes We can comprehend that if this was Romney in Command that there would be more than one Benghazi at play by now see how he would shift all military spending into building big battleships and wasteful things like the laser jets instead of put that money for the troops on the ground. Buying them kevlor or gutting of VA hospitals that's what Obama was implying when he made that statement on Bayonets on guns

Ticked,

Benghazi … You just don't understand. It was a CIA operation where the consulate was being used as a hub for data gathering. CIA operatives and operations are always classified and involve many people including local citizens that needed to have their lives protected by not outing them.

Even Condi Rice, just 10 days ago, asked everyone to wait for the investigation to be completed and she said investigations like this can take a long time. She probably knew it was a CIA undercover, secret operation.

Here's what the non partisan Congressional Research Service has to say about cutting taxes to increase income. (Summary below)

Throughout the late-1940s and 1950s, the top marginal tax rate was typically above 90%; today it is 35%. Additionally, the top capital gains tax rate was 25% in the 1950s and 1960s, 35% in the 1970s; today it is 15%. The real GDP growth rate averaged 4.2% and real per capita GDP increased annually by 2.4% in the 1950s. In the 2000s, the average real GDP growth rate was 1.7% and real per capita GDP increased annually by less than 1%.

There is not conclusive evidence, however, to substantiate a clear relationship between the 65-year steady reduction in the top tax rates and economic growth. Analysis of such data suggests the reduction in the top tax rates have had little association with saving, investment, or productivity growth. However, the top tax rate reductions appear to be associated with the increasing concentration of income at the top of the income distribution.

The share of income accruing to the top 0.1% of U.S. families increased from 4.2% in 1945 to 12.3% by 2007 before falling to 9.2% due to the 2007-2009 recession. The evidence does not suggest necessarily a relationship between tax policy with regard to the top tax rates and the size of the economic pie, but there may be a relationship to how the economic pie is sliced.

Since Romney's whole platform is refuted by these findings, Senator Mitch McConnell (R) blocked the release of the Report. It surfaced again in the Nov 1 2012 New York Times.

Can you give us the short version please? You took up my 36" computer screen... Anyone ever tell you that you talk too much/ No? Ok; You talk too much.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

You Libbies are so cute.

Artery, I know you Liberals don't like to read a lot. We saw that with the Health Care Redistribution of Wealth Hoax when none of your Democrats in Congress read their own 2,374 page debacle. Most of them still don't know what's in it.

I understand you Liberals can't comprehend much more beyond a slogan, tag-line or bumper-sticker talking point, but you have to try.

If my posts are too long for your limited retention span you might try reading a paragraph every hour or so until you can master the art of comprehension.

But if you are trying to change the views of guys like Mr. Spence (JimSpence),

No need to try and change my views, I also checked the CRS numbers. Unfortunately a simple comparison of high and low tax rates between 1945 and 2010 without other parameters being considered is nonsense. Comparing 1950 to 2010 based simply on tax rates is ludicrous. To be accurate the tax rates need to be considered among countless other economic and policy factors. With these in place the analysis would then need to isolate the effect similar lower tax rates had on growth.

No two periods in time, especially economic time, are ever the same. Employment, consumer confidence, inflation, trade policies, deficits, payroll tax rates, saving rates, cost-of-living, tax code variables, corporate effects and others are all determinants of economic activity and growth. This is like comparing the season of a baseball team in July based on their team batting average and determining if they will win the World Series.

Revenues as a percentage of GDP have averaged 18.4% since the 50’s regardless of the tax rate. However when you add a simple variable such as spending, economic growth is significantly affected. Remember, Clintons economy improved most significantly when he dropped the capital gains rate from 30% to 20% in 1996 and the Republican Congress implemented spending cuts that brought net spending down to almost 18% of GDP. This gave rise to his alleged “surplus”. Not to mention an equity bubble, the dot-com bubble, that was appropriately labeled “irrational exuberance”. Emotions dominated economic policy more than I have ever witnessed.

Having said all that, let me ask you a simple comparative question.

Why do you Liberals believe that raising taxes on cigarettes, energy consumption, carbon production and other bogeymen will affect changes to decrease those activities but you don’t believe the same will happen when personal and corporate taxes are increased on investment, savings or other growth behaviors?

I’ll leave you with that to ponder.

I hope this wasn’t too loooong.

It is such a relief to see my fellow Democrats rally this election to defeat the absurd agendas of the far right. While I lean more conservative on abortion, there is no way I can stand with the other nasty policies of the GOP.

I changed parties in 2004 because the GOP has no mercy for the less fortunate.
Shakespeare said mercy "becomes the throned monarch better than his crown".

How can a man strive to a position of power over others and have no mercy?
Romney and Ryan would abandon tens of millions to an uncertain fate.
There is no mercy in that. There is no honor in that.

The GOP has written off half of this country. And half of this country is now answering back.

It's only a couple more days. Then we will be past this awful election and can get back to the business of rebuilding this country. And not in haste... But with wisdom, persistence and patience.

On my mother's side of the family, one of us owned the Baldwin Locomotive Works, which I understand was the world's largest for quite a while, until WWII forced some consolidation in the name of productive efficiency. Apparently it stuck in Friedrich Krupp's craw that an American company was making more rolling stock than he was, but he never did quite catch up... until his factories were all closed by Boeing. HAR! That's a subject on which I'm sure your knowledge is much more complete than my own.

Arterian, I'd be willing to bet a week's pay that your employees are fiercely loyal to you, and like to brag on you to their friends who are not so fortunate as to work for somebody who actuall understands and lives the principle of "noblesse oblige". As for our Gov. Chris G., I look at her as more of a 'caretaker', much like Pres. Ford was- somebody whose job is to just keep the machinery working and avoid any drama, and by that yardstick she's done alright.

Being a new resident here (five years next month) I sure can't tell you guys anything about Washington voters, but they're a blessed breath of fresh air to me; even the ones who disagree with you can usually defend their opinions, instead of coming off with something like, "God said it, I believe it, that settles it!" The GOP/RNC "Speculator and Chief" is 'optomistic' about making as much 'change' of silver and gold as possible. He is very 'optomistic' at hiding his past tax returns in one of his 'quiet rooms.' Why is the IRS not launching a full Tax audit on the GOP/RNC "Tax Cheat and Outsourcer??" The GOP/RNC "EGO Freak and Chief" is very 'optomistic' in giving huge tax breaks to the top 1%, and opening up tax loop holes for corporations even larger. The GOP/RNC "Voter Suppressor and Chief" is all for the destroying of the Voter Rights Act of 1965. The GOP/RNC "Genderly Confused and Chief" has plans to destroy Planned Parenthood, and end all the Reproductive Rights of women. When I start really foaming at the mouth over the utter badness of the Rethuglicans, sometimes my Mom will stop me: "Now, Sam, they weren't always like this! The Republican Party that my father supported in Ohio in the Forties and Fifties stood for fiscal responsibility and individual liberty. They were men you could respect, even if you didn't agree with them."

Well, my Mom is very seldom wrong... but those "respectable" men seem to have completely vanished from today's party. Instead we get religious cranks (Bachmann, Santorum), under-educated chowderheads (Cain, Perry) or just flat-out sleazemeisters (Gingrich). Today's Republican Party is equal-opportunity to the extent that if you're a woman and somewhat attractive, you'll be given the platform on which to humiliate yourself and your state before the whole world (Bachmann again, Palin, Meghan McCain).

This is your Party, Republicans of today: The Party of obstruction, religious intolerance, and supporting liberty for corporations while restricting it for individuals whose gender, skin color, choice of God, or personal habits you dislike. Your entire Party today is a monument to hypocrisy and corruption. Deal with it. When you're ready to get serious about rebuilding America, we Progressives will be happy to work with you.

Watch this space for Ticked Off to post a three-mile-long condemnation of every sin and misstep, real or fanciful, of the Democratic Party and Liberalism in general, going all the way back to the Big Bang (or more likely Noah's Ark, in Ticked Off's cosmology).

How back in the Sixties, we Libs and Progs were sure that the crazy bastard would blow up the world in a New York minute if we gave him the chance?

And then in his retirement and sunset years, how he admitted that he'd been proven wrong on many things (admitting and owning your mistakes is a sure mark of a real man, in my book), but was never going to back down on his support for reproductive rights and equal rights for ALL Americans, no matter how they loved or worshipped?

Yeah- a real two-fisted all-American, he was. If the Republicans could find somebody as honest as Barry, that would be a big step towards redemption.

Well howdy, Talk! I was hoping you'd show up today. Apparently I kinda stuck my foot in it earlier by calling out a guy for lying when he made a reference to the "best revenge" comment. that's what I get for not staying up-to-the-second, I guess. But see, I'm right here in front of Dog and everybody admitting I was wrong... which would probably sink my resume for a job on Ryan's staff, but does a lot for the old self-respect.

Now, let's rewind a little bit, amigo o' mine, back to the "used to be Republicans" bit. Where'd you come up with that, eh? Certainly you didn't infer that from anything NewDay or I actually said; we're just a couple of lifelong Democrats (and proud of it, mister!), reminiscing about those long-past days when there were men in the Republican Party of whom we could say, with grudging respect, "No, I don't like the SOB, but you gotta admit- at least he's honest" ( or "consistent", or "ballsy", or "smart", or pick the laudatory adjective and insert here).

No- there's nobody here trying to be a Republican. As it happens, I kinda agree with you about the D's hijacking the Republican program, but only as it refers to sucking up to Wall Street; all of the religious-test garbage, militarize the border and shoot brown people, war with Iran next week, keep the women barefoot, broke, and pregnant stuff, is all 100% Republican- and baby, you are welcome to it, y'hear?

First Read has a lot invested in the number of posters such as you who post here ... note all the ads.

Tony, just check out the link, Romney appeared to have gas pains, but what bothered me was the chanting and arms raised, reminded me of some of the old Third Reich Goebbels (Dinesh) propaganda films. This is what the New Republican Taliban Party appears to be turning into. Very frightening.

skyparrot - the boos were expected. We all know that teabagger parrots (no pun intended) are convinced climate change is a hoax. I can accept the vocal disapproval. What I can't accept is some moron who is supposed to be on the side of freedom, ripping down the protester's sign. Or the fact that candidate Romney didn't intervene on his behalf. You would think that it would be a forgone conclusion that opposition would be at the very least permitted. That says volumes of where this party is at. Yes, very disturbing.

It put more of that hopey changey mindset into those people when he KNEW it wouldn't happen. Now they are pi$$ed because they bought it AGAIN and AGAIN it is BS. Yesterday I witnessed four C-17 Globemasters take off from Joint Base Lewis-McCord just south of Tacoma Washington bound for Long Island. Aboard were several line trucks from Seattle City Light, Snohomish PUD & Puget Sound Energy, along with their line crews and support staff. The good folks of JBLM have been doing this day in & day out since Sandy smashed into the other coast. They have gone to California, Arizona, Texas and the Gulf Coast to ferry equipment and men to the areas that need the immediate help. Now tell me how this isnt EXACTLY what the President said he would do? Now also tell me how if the duties of FEMA were turned over to the states or private firms this would even be possible at all?

Once the Hollow Suit is consigned to the trash-heap of American political failures and un-funny jokes, it might not be a bad idea for us Progressives to stand down for a bit, allow our rhetorical rifles to cool, and do some serious soul-searching on the question of how in the He!! the ultra-conservatives managed to hijack the political machine and completey dominate the narrative over the last two years.

Conservatives have a great deal to answer for. You should also be looking inward and asking yourselves things like: How did my party nominate for the most powerful office in the world a man who has no beliefs, no core convictions, no program, no integrity at all; a man who lies with a straight face and changes his beliefs as often as he changes his $3000 suit. Ask yourselves honestly, Republicans: Is this guy really the best we could do?

... and then you can ask yourselves: How has the Republican Party worked to improve our lives over the last four years? What have they done, really, other than create meaningless bills concerning abortion, marriage equality, contraceptives, and on and on and on, while our country continues to struggle? What has the G.O.P. done or even suggested to help the honest American worker who is losing her home through no fault of her own?

What measures do the Republicans support to make certain that Wall Street can't nuke our economy again? How would you suggest punishing those who were guilty?

What has the Republican Party done to create jobs? I ask again: You got your tax cuts. Where are the jobs?

What is the Republican policy regarding the sick, the elderly, the mentally disabled, the orphaned or abandoned child? Shall we simply turn our backs on them and let them suffer and die, while billions are squandered on energy-company subsidies and useless weaponry?

How does the Republican Party propose to restore America to the position of respect and honor among the nations of the world that we enjoyed under the leadership of Clinton, Johnson, Kennedy, and, yes, Eisenhower? Do you propose that we build bridges to our foes while giving a steady hand to our allies, or shall we continue to act like an international Hell's Angel: "Do it my way or else!"

Is it worthwhile spending public funds to make sure that our meat, vegetables, and prepared foods are wholesome and free of possibly fatal toxins or bacteria? Is it sensible to have our medications evaluated by independent experts, to ensure that they're safe to use? Or is it more effective to just let industries police and regulate themselves, even if it costs a few innocent lives here and there?

I've asked enough loaded questions for one post; I'm sure that the less-intelligent rabble on the Wrong wing won't read past the first paragraph anyway. Peace, y'all!

The IRS needs to investigate how much money the GOP/RNC "Speculator and Chief." Hid from the American People from his "Delphi Dealings." Who filled out his past tax returns? When was all his tax returns completed? How much money has the GOP/RNC "Tax Cheat and Chief" hidden in his many "Off Shore Accounts?" Did he report all his income? How much of his income did he 'leave out??" All citizens need to let the IRS know that an investigation/audit is needed now! All citizens need to communicate to the Department Of Commerce. That the GOP/RNC "Speculator and Chief" maybe have broken the law, and in Freeport Illinois he still is! The GOP/RNC "Pathological Liar and Chief." Pigotry

      --------------------------------

Right on Pigotry, right on. What was also pathetic is that the Reagan administration gave the order not to carry loaded weapons. Unbelievable. Yeah, old Ronny boy, what a fricking patriot. And the cons still love riding his coat tail.

Oh, Reagan... you mean that guy who OKed selling weapons to Iran, our blood enemy, who trained and funded the same terrorists who murdered our Marines in Beirut?

You mean the guy who ordered secret and illegal support for the Nicaraguan Contras, who were smuggling drugs into America, poisoning our kids to pay for their weapons, while his wife told us to "Just Say No"?

Would that be the same President Reagan who cut deals with the very same terrorists who sadistically tortured and murdered American and Allied hostages, thus encouraging them to continue doing it? That the guy you're talking about?

Oh, yeah, WhoCares. You better believe I remember him. Damn straight I do.

What I don't get is why the cover up and lies for two weeks by the President and his staff about a youtube video and a unorganized mob being the reason for the attack knowing that the video wasn't the reason for the attacks and that it was an organized attack?

Well, three more days before the election and I am not going to waste them bashing candidates, speculating on what shoulda, coulda and didn't happen at Benghazi, who will be best for the nation, who will be worst for the nation, and on and on and on. For myself I am going to spend some quantity and quality time with my wife and daughter, maybe have a drink or two and share lots and lots of laughter.

One last prophetic word, although there are some who do not understand the nature of prophesy this one is very easy to follow and I shouldn't have anyone casting stones at me.

On Wednesday morning there will be much tearing of sack cloth, gnashing of teeth and copious tears. Some will see it as the end of the world and some as a new beginning. But no matter the outcome life will go on and those who perservere, make wise choices and do not let their fears conquer them will overcome the obstacles of life.

        Signing off...for now.

During a radio interview last Friday, Obama said that in the immediate wake of the attack he issued several directives, including one to “make sure that we are securing our personnel and doing whatever we need to.”

In response to this, on Tuesday, Rep. Howard "Buck" McKeon, chairman of the House Armed Services Committee wrote, “There appears to be a discrepancy between your directive and the actions taken by the Department of Defense. As we are painfully aware, despite the fact that the military had resources in the area, the military did not deploy any assets to secure U.S. personnel in Benghazi during the hours the consulate and the annex were under attack.”

I find it implausible that the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the commander of U.S. Africa Command and the commander of U.S. European Command would have ignored a direct order from the commander in chief,” the letter states.

It asks Obama to shed light on “to whom did you issue this first directive and how was this directive communicated to the military and other agencies — verbally or in writing?” The HASC chairman also wanted to know if Obama on that day directed the military to “move available assets into Libya” and if he gave military commanders authority to “take any and all necessary measures to secure U.S. personnel, including specifically the authority to enter Libyan airspace.”

Obama's claim that he "issued several directives, including one to “make sure that we are securing our personnel and doing whatever we need to” may well be another fabrication designed to cover up his betrayal.

I'm sure that, in his private life, Mr. Romney is a fine fellow. He has individual flaws, but truthfully, he's much like Mr. Obama. They are (or were) both pragmatic and moderate, and they both want to solve problems. They have (or have had) similar ideas related to health care, defense, education, separation of church and state, and civil rights.

However, the key difference is in their respective environments. Obama has had some excellent support - Bob Gates, Hillary Clinton, Leon Panetta, and others. Those people are also pragmatists, moderates, etc. They align with Mr. Obama's general direction.

Mr. Romney would find his cabinet and advisers full of the likes of Eric Cantor, Darrell Issa, Rand Paul, Jim Inhofe, Peter King, and of course Paul Ryan. None of those people are in line with Mr. Romney's moderate views. They will collectively move our nation far to the right. My belief is that would damage our country beyond recovery.

Cross our hearts and hope to die, we believe in all these things.
