Polls: Obama stays ahead in Ohio, deadlocked with Romney in Fla.

President Barack Obama gives a thumbs up as he participates in a campaign rally in Lima, Ohio, Nov. 2, 2012.

Three days until Election Day, President Barack Obama maintains his lead in the key battleground state of Ohio and is locked in a close contest with Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney in Florida, according to new NBC News/Wall Street Journal/Marist polls.

In Ohio, Obama holds a six-point advantage over Romney among likely voters, 51 percent to 45 percent, which is unchanged from last month’s poll in the Buckeye State.

Read the Ohio poll here

And in Florida, the president gets support from 49 percent of likely voters, while his GOP challenger gets 47 percent. Those numbers are virtually identical to the ones from October, when it was Obama 48 percent, Romney 47 percent.

Both states are two of the biggest prizes in Tuesday’s presidential contest. An Obama victory in Ohio, which awards 18 electoral votes, would put him tantalizingly close to getting to the 270 electoral votes needed to win a second term.

President Barack Obama campaigns in Lima, Ohio as he rallies supporters in key states just before the election.

But an Obama loss in the Buckeye State – and a Romney win – would place a hole in the president’s Midwest firewall.

Meanwhile, Florida, which awards 29 electoral votes, is a must-win state for Romney. A Republican loss there would push Obama past 270 electoral votes – even if the president lost every other battleground state in NBC’s current map.

Obama ahead with early voters
As with the recent NBC/WSJ/Marist polls of Iowa and Wisconsin, Obama is benefitting from early voters in Ohio and Florida.

Read the Florida poll here

In the Sunshine State, 63 percent say they have already voted or plan to do so before Election Day, and Obama is winning them, 53 percent to 46 percent. But Romney is ahead among Election Day voters in Florida, 52 percent to 40 percent.

In Ohio, 35 percent say they have already voted or plan to do so, and Obama is leading them, 62 percent to 36 percent. Yet Romney is up among Election Day voters in the Buckeye State, 52 percent to 42 percent.

Strong approval for the president’s handling of Sandy
The polls were conducted after Hurricane Sandy slammed into the East Coast, and seven in 10 likely voters in Florida and Ohio approve of the president’s job in handling the hurricane and its aftermath.

“The response was overwhelmingly positive, and that was occurring across party lines,” says Lee Miringoff, director of the Marist College Institute for Public Opinion.

On handling the economy
Meanwhile, Romney has a slight advantage over Obama in Florida when it comes to which candidate would better handle the economy – 48 percent pick Romney and 46 percent back Obama.

GOP candidate Mitt Romney speaks to supporters in Chester, Ohio as he campaigns in key swing states ahead of the election.

But those numbers are reversed in Ohio, where 48 percent believe Obama would better handle the economy and 46 percent side with Romney.

On party ID
In these surveys, Democrats enjoy a nine-point party-identification advantage in Ohio and a two-point edge in Florida. Republicans have argued that a nine-point advantage is too large in this current political environment; it was eight points in the Buckeye State during Obama’s decisive 2008 victory.

If you cut that party ID advantage in half, Obama’s six-point lead in Ohio is reduced to three points.

Other numbers in the poll
Obama’s job-approval rating among likely voters stands at 48 percent in Florida and 50 percent in Ohio.

In the final push in the 2012 presidential election, candidates Mitt Romney and Barack Obama make their last appeals to voters.

In Ohio’s Senate contest, Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown leads Republican Josh Mandel by five points among likely voters, 50 percent to 45 percent.

And in Florida’s Senate contest, Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson leads Republican Connie Mack by nine, 52 percent to 43 percent.

The NBC/WSJ/Marist poll of Florida was conducted Oct. 30-Nov. 1 of 1,545 likely voters, and it has a margin of error of plus-minus 2.5 percentage points.

And the survey of Ohio was conducted Oct. 31-Nov.1 of 971 likely voters, and it has a margin of error of plus-minus 3.1 percentage points.

Hoos - Talk about a 'low information voter'. Do you know anything about Obama's past? do you know that he spent his life choosing his friends per their anti-American Marxist ideology? Do you know that he followed in his father's wish to bring the US to it's knees and make us 'equal' to all other nations?

Do not expouse 'low information' when you have less knowledge.

New Jersey photo op then off to Vegas. Yeah that is really caring about Americans. Just like rushing off to Vegas when four Americans had died in Benghazi.

It it just me or does Obama in his 'bomber jacket' remind anyone of Dukakis in a combat helmet?

Obama had his photo op then ran off to Vegas just like he did when four Americans died in Benghazi because of his incompetence. If 'Americans like the way the president responded to Sandy' means they like the way Obama let four Americans die out of incompetence then Americans do not approve of Obama.

Its all over except the inauguration. These two professors have never been wrong.

University of Colorado analysis predicts Romney win in presidential race.

The analysis, released by political science professors Kenneth Bickers of CU-Boulder and
Michael Berry of CU Denver, is based on economic and other factors within each of the 50
states. This same study has correctly predicted the winners of the last eight presidential
elections, starting with the 1980 election won by Ronald Reagan.

The analysis is summarized as follows, “President Barack Obama will win 218 votes in the
Electoral College, short of the 270 he needs. And though they chiefly focus on the Electoral
College, the political scientists predict Romney will win 52.9 percent of the popular vote
Obama’s 47.1 percent, when considering only the two major political
parties.”

Obama winning 218 electoral votes would means Romney wins the remaining 320 out of
538 electoral votes.

Three days until Election Day, President Barack Obama maintains his lead in the key battleground state of Ohio and is locked in a close contest with Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney in Florida, according to new NBC News/Wall Street Journal/Marist polls.

If anyone believes this then gas has dropped to $1.75 a gallon, the truth is Romney is now ahead of Obama in a tight Ohio race. More than 50% of Democrats have already voted and 1/3 of Republicans voted so far. The other 2/3 of Republicans will make the winning difference on Monday and Tuesday.

There has been a record turn out for Republicans just in the early voting alone indicating huge surging support for Romney and a bad sign for a hapless and desperate Obama.

So, a record number of republicans have turned out in early voting, according to you? Then why have early voters polled, voted nearly 60 to 30 for Obama? Doesn't look good for Romney.

Nice try but fail, the actual votes for either candidate won't be announced until after the elections. The polling of early voters don't mean squat, only the final results matter. If you read my comments carefully, it never says who voted for whom, only the percentage of turnouts by both parties.

Obama is worried poopless because he has returned to Ohio more times than he wants to.

This presidential election is OVER, barring an outright purchase of the corporate tabulations by Adelson and the Koch Brothers on election night.

The worm has definitely turned...mark this day.

FiveThirtyEight this morning estimates the chance of Election Day victory for each candidate as follows: Obama 83.7% (up markedly from Friday morning's 80.9%) and Romney 16.3% (down markedly from Friday's 19.1%).

FiveThirtyEight now also projects that on Election Day the final electoral tally will be as follows: Obama 305 (up 6 from Wednesday's 299) and Romney 233 (down 6 from Wednesday's 239).

Lastly, although it makes no difference in terms of the final result which can only be determined by the Electoral College, FiveThirtyEight currently predicts a national popular vote distribution on Election Day as follows: Obama 50.6% (up from Thursday's 50.4%) and Romney 48.4% (down from Thursday's 48.6%).

    -------------------------------

In WISCONSIN, with 10 electoral votes, Obama's lead has risen to 5.4%, up from 5.0% Friday. FiveThirtyEight currently gives Obama a 94.2% chance of victory here, up 0.9% overnight.

In PENNSYLVANIA, with 20 electoral votes, Obama's lead is holding at 4.6%. FiveThirtyEight currently gives Obama a 96.6% chance of victory here, up 0.5% overnight.

In MICHIGAN, with 16 electoral votes, Obama's lead has risen to 3.5%, up from 3.0% Friday. FiveThirtyEight currently gives Obama a 98.6% chance of victory here, up 0.2% overnight.

In NEVADA, with 6 electoral votes, Obama's lead has risen to 2.7%, up from 2.4% Friday. FiveThirtyEight currently gives Obama an 88.7% chance of victory here, up 1.5% overnight.

In OHIO, with 18 electoral votes, Obama's lead has risen to 2.6%, up from 2.3% Friday. FiveThirtyEight currently gives Obama an 83.8% chance of victory here, up 3.1% overnight.

In IOWA, with 6 electoral votes, Obama's lead has risen to 2.0%, up from 1.3% Friday. FiveThirtyEight currently gives Obama an 80.7% chance of victory here, down interestingly by 0.9% overnight.

In NEW HAMPSHIRE, with 4 electoral votes, Obama's lead has settled at 1.8%, up from 1.3% Friday. FiveThirtyEight currently gives Obama an 80.4% chance of victory here, up 1.7% overnight.

In COLORADO, with 9 electoral votes, Obama's lead has risen to 1.0%, up from 0.9% Friday. FiveThirtyEight currently gives Obama a 67.9% chance of victory here, up 2.2% overnight.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------

In VIRGINIA, with 13 electoral votes, Romney's lead has fallen to 0.3%, down from 0.5% on Friday. Interestingly, FiveThirtyEight increased Obama's chance of victory here (and not Romney's) to 67.0%, up 2.2% overnight.

In FLORIDA, with 29 electoral votes, Romney's lead is holding at 1.2%. However, FiveThirtyEight currently gives Romney only a 54.8% chance of victory here, down stunningly by a substantial 9.9% from Tuesday.

It should be noted that RCP's average in Florida does appear to have been hyper-inflated by two recent outlier findings in favor of Romney, the first a 5.0% margin from The Sunshine State News, an ultra-conservative blog, and the second a 3.0% margin from Gravis Marketing, a polling firm funded in large part by BAIN Capital. Accordingly, Romney's true lead is likely well under 1.0% and quite possibly close to a dead heat.

In NORTH CAROLINA, with 15 electoral votes, Romney's lead is holding at 3.8%. FiveThirtyEight currently gives Romney an 79.6% chance of victory here, down 0.3% overnight.

Yep, the worm has definitely turned tonight.

I hate to tell you this, but I think your numbers are off by quite a bit. I am from WI and I just read that Romney has a slight lead here. If your numbers are that off for WI, it makes me wonder how wrong they are for the other states. Of course, you might remember how great those polls are at predictions. I seem to recall that Tom Barrett was supposedly tied with Gov. Scott Walker going into that pathetic recall election. What did Walker win by? Was it 7%? Put all your faith in your inflated polls. I, for one, will love to wake up Wednesday morning to hear that America finally made up for the error of 2008. Bumbling o and alzheimer Joe gotta go!!

My point is, these polls are not even close to being accurate. I live just south of the People's Republic of Madison, an area that is very strongly democrat. Four years ago there were a lot of obama/biden signs on people's lawns. Now, you are hard pressed to find any in my neighborhood. Romney/Ryan signs are everywhere. I think your optimism is a little stretched. We'll see when Wednesday rolls around who is the winner and who is the loser. One other thing I point out. Ever since that monstrosity of a tax called obamacare was introduced, WI replaced one democrat Senator with a republican (Russ Feingold out, Ron Johnson in) and it looks like democrat Senator Herb Kohl is going to be replaced with republican Tommy Thompson. We replaced democrat Governor Jim Doyle with republican Governor Scott Walker and he survived the recall brought forth by the unions and liberals. WI has a strong hatred for obamacare. I have a feeling that WI is giving its electoral votes to Romney. obama had this state until he started screwing us with his health care plan that will ultimately force higher taxes on working families. WI is frugal, any talk of raised taxes loses votes for the candidate that caused said taxes.

My evidence is indeed anecdotal, but I think it's quite telling.

In the 8+ years I've spent in Ohio, I've not seen more support for a Democratic presidential candidate, let alone Democrats seeking state and local offices.

Driving through rural Coshocton County, lawn signs supporting President Obama outnumber those for Citizen Romney by 6-1 or 5-1, depending on proximity to the county seat. The president lost in the county to Mr. McCain by a margin of 8-7 in 2008, and the reflection of Republican-leaning lawn signs was roughly 4-1 or 5-1, again dependent upon county-seat proximity.

This, my friends, is a sea change from 2004 and 2008.

And a very surprising, but nonetheless welcome one at that!

Just imagine what's going on in the "Big Citiies,"

      Romney/Ryan: None and done.

Methinks 100% of the 47%, joined by quite a number of others, will ensure that outcome.

Obama has been a miserable failure. As a Senator during Bush's last term, he voted to fund the wars he publicly rejected. He also failed to prevent the housing meltdown during a democrat controlled House and Senate under Bush. Obama also requested that Bush sign over approximately 2/3 rds of the TARP funds that had not been spent during the Bush administration. Then Obama was given the 787 billion stimulus package by Pelosi and Reid. Where are we now given all the money Obama squandered?

but you just said obama is horrible and will make the country worse and worse.. but having 15 year old girls get welfare and hand outs for having kids before age 20 is smart? how economic can you be when your not even done with college with no good payin job yet already trying to start a family? this is why i think most of the people needing that help are between 20-40.. cause most of em screwed there own lives up. they shouldn't even have kids untill there at least 20...you cant work at wal mart at 15 and expect that to pay for a famliy. unless your idea of a family at 15 is eating mcdonalds and living in a 10,000 shack...mitt is gona do far times more worse to this country. all he thinks is that throwing money down the tube and " college " will make new jobs and going green will help this country....yeah for a while... but he STILL forgets ALOT if not 50% of this country runs on labor that isnt paid good.. so yeah spend 7 trillion dollars to help 50% and the 50% that oroginally BEFORE this happened is still mad and unhappy....so how is that gona help....helps us dig a bigger hole if you ask me. 23 trillion sounds like.. idk something id hear in astronomy class... 23 trillion miles or something that is mindblowing. he wants to make college more affordable.. well sucks to be a college professor now lol.....here comes your pay cut....go green? well there goes millions of jobs for power....everytime you try to upgrade with something new and techy you lose jobs....happens everywhere....and at this rate mitt might as well get rid of sports that cost too much for schools in debt. mitt: " im going to rebuild america with jobs.. jobs.. and jobs " lol ok so you better try to get the 1% to like that idea.. they'll lose most of there large amounts of money. seeing as there products all come from taiwan and china.....then they'll boost prices up here and we'll be getting more money from his college program but THEN there adding to the cost of gas and food lol.. so no matter what anyone does.. you'll have more high paying college jobs like the 1% who come from college will just suck like leeches all the money from the 99% and the same thing can happen all over again like it has been for generations........and the 1% are the ones over pricing there products and letting 2 cent a hour workers in china build it.......so when you reducate people.. you reeducate them to take advantage of others with money and greed.. and it already has happened...btw mitt thinks raising min. wage is a bad idea and it will hurt the economy...lmao yeah only the 1%....big deal..hes a wuss... if you paid people MORE money on fair share THEN people WOULD have more MONEY to spend... thus making teh economy revolve...how is a billionaire not spending his cash and a guy making 20,000 a year spending most of it gona help? all ill say is... screw the 1%

Obama seems to have forgot to drone terminate the AQ involved in his Benghazi Failure but no doubt he will continue to promise to investigate and take retaliatory action someday.

Fortunately, he won't be President much longer. We can no longer tolerate or afford our sinking economy, disastrous unemployment and his totaly failed foreign policies.

i am a kid literally lol im 20 with no job.. sure is fun.....25 million out of work... and these so called " new jobs are low paid, temp jobs or part time "....you cant live off those or have a family with rising food and gas...i remember when a god dam can of pringles was 90. cents.. now its like 2 dollars... thats a 55% increase in 10 years.....they should make a law......if your 65 and older and finically secured you HAVE to quit working.. your taking someone else's job.. same with kids at 15-20...if you have 2-3 part time jobs then thats 2-3 other people's jobs gone.. sorry do the math.. 250 million working americans... if 125 million have 2 part time jobs thats 250 million jobs... but 125 million now cant work.. and this is why our 25 million cant work.. cause 50 million screwed themselves up and need more jobs to pay for there condo and boat....lol. more equality in this country involves sacrafice...the inflation is a joke too..why else is the unemployment so high now? we've dug a hole and reached a point where the number of jobs made and lost are budging and now were seeing negative jobs....and it doenst help to have people making 50 million a year and some making 12,000 a year......and people with families where both spouses work and are making good income and some where none of the spouses are working and are on welfare living in a dump....sorry time to make a 1/2 balanced law... if your family has both spouses working and 1 income is above 49,000 ( nat. average ) then we have to cut it and give someone else that job or postition....only way to ever fix that 25 million rate....an example would be my neighbors who live in a 800,000 house... 5,000+ square feet... and both the spouses work 3 jobs......woman is a doctor.. that auotmatically makes 100,000+ and the husband works on the interent and is a coach for school.. making combined mabye 120-130K.......this is a good example. and both there kids can go to college cause there " in 47% terms 'rich' " and i cant afford it or apply for a grant....not everyone can.. and thus the people making all the money get it all and the people like me will probably be used as pigs and low paid labor making 20,000 a year living in a dump.....because " i didnt have high enough scores on a piece of paper score test for college " lmao what a joke. its nice if your parents are in the top 5% of the countrys wealthy.. cause i sure the hell aint... so yeah lets just keep on letting people make too much and have people make nothing at all.....yep that will help....how about we stop being greedy and give everyone a chance at life and happiness? why the hell is $$$ even the point of life...i feel bad for people who are poor living in dumps.. not there fault the 1% need 50 mansions and 20 yachts to satasify there small dicks

dezhawaii -The President of the United States is an incompetent, obnoxious yelling fool.

I'm so sick & tired of you right wing nutjobs spewing all the "Obama is turning us into a socialist nation" crap... You guys wouldn't know socialism if it bit you in the ass.

All you're doing is parroting the lies and scare tactics the GOP crazies are spewing because they are realizing they can't win on their stupid "trickle down reduce taxes" mantra. They are even suppressing an independent report that shows tax breaks for the rich won't create jobs...

Face it, you wingnuts... Romnut's poll numbers are reversing as the American public is seeing how much he is lying to get elected. That "lead" he had after the first debate is history. You're in denial, get over it... No body likes a snake oil flip-flopping salesman. Romnuts would be the worse thing that could ever happen to this country. He's just another incarnation of Bush. We've been there, suffered that.

Next Tuesday, he'll be sent packing. Hopefully he'll move to the Caymans and stay there. If you wingnuts really loved your country, you should grow a pair, put our country ahead of your extremist ideology, and work with the President to speed up our rcovery instead of obstructing it.
