Ryan optimistic in Iowa campaign stop

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- Republican vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan is feeling optimistic about a win in the Hawkeye State on Tuesday.

“So I just got a question: Iowa, you gonna help us win this thing?” Ryan asked the crowd at the University of Northern Iowa. “Darn straight. Absolutely. It feels good. We can do it. Right here in the heartland. Right here in the Midwest."

Ryan, a seven-term Wisconsin congressman, told the nearly 1,000-person crowd it could come down to two states.

“Our two states right here – Wisconsin and Iowa – we can tip it over. We can make the difference right here in Iowa,” he said. “Look, in 2008 President Obama won our states. A lot of our fellow Iowans and Wisconsinites looked at the message. They looked at hope and change and it sounded great and so a lot of people voted for that. The president made a lot of grand promises. He said he would heal the partisan wounds and bring people together. This is the most partisan time I have seen in Washington.”

Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, who made his closing argument speech Friday in Wisconsin, has been speaking a great deal about the need for bipartisanship. Ryan picked up on this theme in Iowa, as well.

“President Obama has not met with the party leaders of the Republican party in the House or the Senate since July. That doesn’t get things done. That’s partisanship. That’s acrimony. Mitt Romney and I have proven that we know how to work with people on the other side of the aisle. We have proven that we know how to get things done,” he said.

With four days to go before Election Day, Ryan and Romney are barnstorming the country – especially the battleground states – to try and defeat the incumbent president.

“A handful of states will determine this. A handful of states. And Iowa, you know this, you’re used to it with the caucuses. You’ve had everybody running for president in your kitchen,” Ryan said as Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley, Gov. Terry Branstad, and Lt Gov. Kim Reynolds sat nearby.

According to the latest NBC News/Wall Street Journal/Marist poll released Wednesday, Obama is ahead of Romney by six points among likely voters, 50 percent to 44 percent, which is down from his eight-point lead earlier this month.

Both Romney and Ryan will hold another event in Iowa -- which will award six electoral votes -- before Nov. 6, and President Obama will travel to Iowa for his final rally Monday night before polls open.

Lyin Ryan may be optimistic but he's also crazier than a sh!t house rat!

The very last thing we need is to install a John Bircher & Ayn Rand disciples into the Oval Office!

America NEEDS a proven leader which is why President Barack Hussein Obama will be awarded a second term!

Well Honey Boo Boo II, we all know what we will get with a second Obama term - more spending, more unemployment, more lives lost to his image, increased terrorist movement, and the people in the NE will still be out of power and suffer from a lack of services.

That’s partisanship. That’s acrimony.

I'll tell you what is pungent, it is the rancid, righteous Romney/Ryan Lyin' Team doing their famous double-down two step on a pile of rotting cow pies. What is an even sorrier site is watching their followers lap up the sloppy leftovers.

America NEEDS a proven leader which is why President Barack Hussein Obama will be awarded a second term!

Proven leader?

Obama proved he incapable of developing a budget that can garner even one vote from his own party.

Obama proved he cannot create jobs with unemployment higher than when he took office ... higher after even big majorities in both houses for 2 years .... higher after spending $5 trillion in "stimulus"....

After 4 years, for every American with a net new job there are literally 75 new Americans on food stamps.

But more significantly than any economic ineptitude and cluelessness, Bengazi has proved to anyone with any awareness, any sense of decency and intelligence, Obama to be a worthless, deceitful man with no conscious.

Nothing more to offer, capable of nothing more than that of a community organizer out of his depth with the judgement and honor of a narcissistic sociopath.

Bob, when did it become President Obama's responsibility to create even a single job? I thought that was the responsibility of the private sector "job creators" who currently enjoy the lowest tax rates since the 1950's.

We don't need a new President, we need a smarter U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

Talk to the Hand

Think he'll get a second Peace Prize?

Now that is something to ponder. Thinking about how President Obama has restored our image in the world and is helping with the Arab Spring; it could be possible he gets another Peace award. I'm just speculating to make a case. Then there is the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START) President Obama got. This New Start Treaty is designed to eliminate nuclear weapons from destroying the planet.

After all, most Americans do not think the USA should take responsibility to intervene in the Syrian conflict. Thus far President Obama has not gotten US into another war.

    Amy,

when did it become President Obama's responsibility to create even a single job?

    Good point.

Presidents, government do not create jobs. They do however, set policy which creates the environment for job creation.

Obama passed Obamacare that greatly burdens and stresses the job creators at a time when they are severely stressed.

Obama has an energy policy, the lifeblood to all economies, that greatly increases the cost and future cost of everything.

Obama has threatened tax increases for 4 years creating uncertainty. Obama has introduced thousands of unnecessary and debilitating regulations.

    How many do you want?

I thought that was the responsibility of the private sector "job creators" who currently enjoy the lowest tax rates since the 1950's.

Actually tax rates have been lower twice before with top rates at 31% and 28%. I know it is an Obama talking point, but you and he should know something so simple and elementary.

We don't need a new President, we need a smarter U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

We don't need a new president?

Is there anything to suggest that Obama has ever even had an Economics 101 class?

Is there anything to suggest that he has anything other than a community organizer's understanding of economics?

With a record that rivals the worst recovery in history, we definitely need a new president.

Btw - Thanks for the Chamber of Commerce chuckle.

You whining babies will see that you are in the minority on Tuesday...2010 was a little different because we didn't all go out to vote and people did believe the lies like the auto bailout was terrible....Funny thing is now people realize how important it was so NOW R-Money is for it....

I didn't vote in 2010 because I had a democrat congressman who didn't vote for Obamacare among other things...He thought that would hold his seat in this swing county...Well in my eyes it lost it for him....I didn't vote since he didn't vote as I would have....I had no idea that the dems would lose the house...

I will vote this time for a straight Democratic ticket....I got that tingle up my leg from O and I feel R-money is pissing on my head telling me its raining...

The job creators are stressed? Profits of the Fortune 500 are at historic highs. Incomes have risen for the top 1%.. They are stressed over which country club has a better golf course.

Most companies with over 50 employees already provide health insurance, wasn't that the reason we scrapped the public option anyway, Republicans CHOOSE to keep it an employer provided health insurance system.

Obama says" Some of the lowest tax rates since the fifties " and if you look at R-Money's tax rate that is way lower than 39-35-31-or 28% so I would say he is speaking facts....Unlike R-Money saying Jeep is moving all production to China..

I didn't know that Bush, Chertof and Brownie were Democrats. Yeah Bush had nothing to do with it because his administration sat on his hands while New Orleans drowned. One other key reason New Orleans drowned is because the State of Louisiana outsourced protecting themselves to the Army Corp of Engineers rather than take the primary responsibility themselves to make sure the levees were strong enough. Just what you expect from a backwater leeching red state.

-Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D, CA), Dec. 16, 1998

"Hussein has ... chosen to spend his money on building weapons of mass
destruction and palaces for his cronies."

-- Madeline Albright, Clinton Secretary of State, Nov. 10, 1999

"There is no doubt that ... Saddam Hussein has reinvigorated his weapons
programs. Reports indicate that biological, chemical and nuclear programs
continue apace and may be back to pre-Gulf War status. In addition, Saddam
continues to redefine delivery systems and is doubtless using the cover of a
licit missile program to develop longer-range missiles that will threaten the
                  United States and our allies."

Letter to President Bush, Signed by:

-- Sen. Bob Graham (D, FL), and others, Dec 5, 2001

"We begin with the common belief that Saddam Hussein is a tyrant and a
threat to the peace and stability of the region. He has ignored the mandate of
the United Nations and is building weapons of mass destruction and th! e means
                  of delivering them."

                  -- Sen. Carl Levin (D, MI), Sept. 19, 2002

"We know that he has stored secret supplies of biological and chemical
                  weapons throughout his country."

                  -- Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002

"Iraq's search for weapons of mass destruction has proven impossible to
deter and we should assume that it will continue for as long as Saddam is in
                  power."

                  -- Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002

"We have known for many years that Saddam Hussein is seeking and
                  developing weapons of mass destruction."

                  -- Sen. Ted Kennedy (D, MA), Sept. 27, 2002

"The last UN weapons inspectors left Iraq in October of 1998. We are
confident that Saddam Hussein retains some stockpiles of chemical and
biological weapons, and that he has since embarked on a crash course to build
up his chemical and biological warfare capabilities. Intelligence reports
indicate that he is seeking nuclear weapons..."

                  -- Sen. Robert Byrd (D, WV), Oct. 3, 2002

"I will be voting to give the President of the United States the authority
to use force -- if necessary -- to disarm Saddam Hussein because I believe that
a deadly arsenal of weapons of mass destruction in his hands is a real and
                  grave threat to our security."

                  -- Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Oct. 9, 2002

"There is unmistakable evidence that Saddam Hussein is working
aggressively to develop nuclear weapons and will likely have nuclear weapons
within the next five years ... We also should remember we have always
underestimated the progress Saddam has made in development of weapons of mass
                  destruction."

                  -- Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D, WV), Oct 10, 2002

"He has systematically violated, over the course of the past 11 years,
every significant UN resolution that has demanded that he disarm and destroy
his chemical and biological weapons, and any nuclear capacity. This he has
                  refused to do"

                  -- Rep. Henry Waxman (D, CA), Oct. 10, 2002

"In the four years since the inspectors left, intelligence reports show
that Saddam Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical and biological weapons
stock, his missile delivery capability, and his nuclear program. He has also
given aid, comfort, and sanctuary to terrorists, including al Qaeda members ...
It is clear, however, that if left unchecked, Saddam Hussein will continue to
increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare, and will keep
                  trying to develop nuclear weapons."

                  -- Sen. Hillary Clinton (D, NY), Oct 10, 2002

"We are in possession of what I think to be compelling evidence that
Saddam Hussein has, and has had for a number of years, a developing capacity
for the production and storage of weapons of mass destruction."

                  -- Sen. Bob Graham (D, FL), Dec. 8, 2002

"Without question, we need to disarm Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal,
murderous dictator, leading an oppressive regime ... He presents a particularly
grievous threat because he is so consistently prone to miscalculation ... And
now he is miscalculating America's response to his continued deceit and his
consistent grasp for weapons of mass destruction ... So the threat of Saddam
Hussein with weapons of mass destruction is real..."

                  -- Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Jan. 23. 2003

At least President Bush had the voted support of Congress before he sent troops to Iraq...President Obama bombed Libya all on his own...with no voted support from Congress. The result was a windfall for the local radical islamist who took the weapons and overthrew a stable and peaceful nation called Mali. More blow back for the President to explain.

If President Bush, like his father before him, had waited until AFTER the elections to take the vote, the outcome may have been quite different and a Trillion dollars and tens of thousands of lives saved...

Rhetoric and actions are not one and the same. Congress passes symbolic measures on a regular basis.

Ryan will soon have a lot more time for P90x and to consider the difference between washing dirty dishes rather than washing clean dishes. First candidate in a long time to lose two races in one day.

He was so confident in this campaign that he didn't drop out of his congressional race. One more lie for Ryan before he heads out in a few days as a congressman once again. Maybe he can be a gay male model in the future though...

Actually, Vice President Biden still ran for US Senate in 2008.

I think Biden ran for senate because he wasn't sure of the presidential outcome. I've heard that in Wisconsin, the Republican Governor will get to pick the replacement when Ryan becomes VP.

Funny how a party that says "Move Forward" keeps running against Bush. Maybe because they cannot run on their record or against Romney. Tell lies and say to look up the transcript, hoping no one will. Say we leave no one behind when that is exactly what Obama did in Benghazi and now is doing in New York/New Jersey. Looks like a good Tuesday. Four more days.

Ryan should be optimistic in Iowa and Wisconsin. Obama is not polling like he did in 2008 and has dropped from his 2008 numbers. In the last 3 pre-election polls in 2008 Obama led in Iowa 54/39% and had large lead in Wisconsin. Latest polls as of Nov 1, 2012, Obama leads by 49/48 in Iowa and 50/47% in Wisconsin, both within the margin of error.

Lastest National WAPO/ABC poll (Oct 29 - Nov 1) has Romney ahead 49/48%. More concerning for Obama is the poll shows that 55% of those polled say the country is on the wrong track while only 43% say right direction. By a 50/46%, trust Romney to do a better job handling the economy.

IMO, I believe there will be some surprises come Nov 6th, it will depend on how the few undecideds break, and normally they break toward the challenger.

The liberals are talking up the good news in the increase in unemployment numbers. Claim it went up because more people are now looking for work so are back in the mix. However, you noticed how, when the people dropped out of the work force and quit looking, it brought the unemployment rate down and they said that was a positive. The liberals can't have it both ways.

I just want to add that concerning the economy we need not worry because our "eye candy" President has this all well in hand. The "rich" will gladly pay for everything. There is now total transparency in the federal government and the nation has been brought together through hope and change. Our President has no problems in getting things done in congress because of the success of his reaching across the isle. GITMO is still closed and the stimulus has completely solved all of our unemployment problems. The 2012 federal deficit was less than 229.27 billion dollars as promised. We are now at peace with everyone in the world and all or our troops will be home before the end of 2014 and by 2015 we will start paying off the national debt. I am sure that everyone has figured out what they are going to do with all that money they have been saving on health care costs. We can all go on vacations using the new green energy, high speed rail system that was built via those stimulus funded shovel ready jobs. I am sure that everyone is looking forward to watching the President and my congressman go over the health care bill, "line by line", on C-SPAN as the President has promised. All hail the Chief!

Little "RIchie Rich" Ryan is only 'optimistic' about keeping his Two "Financial Fathers" named the Koch Brothers very happy. He is very 'optimistic' about taking his blood oath on Janruary 20, 2009 in Washington D.C at the Caucus House Steak House. At this Tea Begger backroom meeting the GOP/RNC "Fourteen Felon's." Agreed to destroy the US Economy at all costs, and to 'obstruct/attack' everything the President will do. "Mickey Mouse Mitch McConnell." The leader of his "Mickey Mouse Club" in the US Senate. Must be voted out! The GOP/Tea Begger "Bonehead Boehner." Must be voted out! All Tea Beggers that committed treason on Janruary 20, 2012 at the Caucus Restaurant in Washington D.C. Must be voted out!
