VIDEO: The Week Ahead: Election Day: The key states to watch

Election Day is finally here. It's expected to be close, but watch Ohio and Wisconsin and whether Obama holds on in both. If he does, he's likely reelected. Also watch Virginia and Florida. Do they go Romney easily or does the president pick one off? And – hang loose. We go to the state that really matters.

What happens to the unspent funds from the Presidential campaign. How are they apportioned?

The unspent funds are apportioned back to First Read posters based on the quantity and quality of their posts. I plan on retiring from the proceeds. ;-)

Sure we'll be watching and those voting machines flipping votes too.

Glitch” Wipes out 1,000 Early votes in Black FL Neighborhood

At first, polling officials blamed it on a “computer glitch.” Uh huh. And what glitch would that be?

The local supervisor of elections (SOE) didn’t inspire a lot of hope when speaking about another, smaller, change to the early voting numbers at another polling location:

And why is it always Florida? Why always in a heavily Democratic precinct, and why do the errors always help the other guy? Remember that Florida is already dealing with a widespread GOP voter fraud scandal. From my earlier post of a month ago:

We reported last night that a firm doing business with the National Republican Committee and the Romney campaign was being investigated for voter fraud. The firm has done $2.9 million in business with the Republican National Committee this year alone, and another firm run by the same did $80,000 in work for Romney.

      It is crunch time -

A vote for Obama/Biden and democrats in Congress means a speedy recover though the home stretch of this horrid recession/depression and an end to our ridiculous wars.

A vote for Romney/Ryan and GOPTP Congress means a roll back to 2007/2008 with stock market failures, crashing housing market, bank closures, sky-high unemployment, no access to credit, and more wars.

Fellow Americans, cast your ballot for your preferred options.

Beverly, I so hope it doesn't go to the courts. My feeling is that it won't but then again there is all the nastiness with the Republicans and voter fraud and voter intimidation, not to mention the possibility of some of the voter machines being "hijacked". The Republicans have done it before and they are a party that lacks any ethical morals, and, Grover Norquist and Karl Rove are bound and determined to be the President and Vice President. Yes, you read that correctly. Norquist and Rove.

Since the Obama photo op in NJ, what's government done to aid those folks?

      1. Over 60 crews from private utility companies in California were air-lifted to affected areas on the East Coast yesterday to assist in restoring power.

      2. The Merchant Marine Act of 1920 has been waived to get more ships moving fuel into the Tri-State area.

      3. Equipment has been mobilized to begin pumping out the subway tunnels and commuter tunnels in the city.

      4. FEMA is delivering MREs to those in need.

      5. USS Wasp, USS San Antonio and USS Carter Hall are on station just outside of New York Harbor to support recovery efforts.

Now, here's a question for you...what have YOU done to aid those folks? You can always give to the Red Cross.

Well down at the Dew Drop Inn this weekend though our traditional Halloween celebration is going to be a little more subdued than usual it’s still going on. So while the Ladies get their inner Elvira going and all the Gentleman get their Willard and Obama Masks on we are asking you’ll to fill just as many of the Pickle Jars setting beside the doors with donations as you can. Fair Warning we are going to have the Bullriding Bouncer guarding the jars so none of you’ll from Ol’Willard’s camp can pawn off any of that tired old Wally Mart Tuna Fish off on us.
      Now on to everyday Heroes:
First of all to the Armies of Lineman, Equipment Operators, National Guardsmen and women, and professionals of every stripe that is now descending on the Northeast to get the power back on and things moving in a positive direction you’ll stay safe and let’s get er’ done for our fellow Americans.
Then there’s FEMA . the Governors of the various States, Military and Private Contractors that are moving Heaven and Earth to get Equipment and Supplies in place so these Armies have a chance to make a Positive Impact. Thanks for helping us get er’ done.
This list is preliminary and I’m sure that we will be adding to it both now and in the future:
The nurses and FEMA crew assigned to NYU's Tisch Hospital
Imagine speeding down a pitch-black flight of stairs, carrying a small child struggling to breathe—and in the middle of a raging storm. Without fail, a FEMA team deployed in New York City, greatly aided by local facilities' workers, faced such challenges efficiently and courageously as they evacuated many of the patients from NYU's Tisch Hospital in the midst of the storm.
More than 200 people, from infants to the elderly, were emptied from the hospital's buildings after the power failed. (Not only had the basement flooded, but the backup generators also fizzled.) The paramedics and rescue workers, some New Yorkers and others from as far away as Kentucky, carried out the job without a single casualty.
Emily Rahimi, New York Fire Department's one-woman response team
If it weren't for the efforts of Emily Rahimi, even those New Yorkers who hadn't lost power might have been in the dark. At the helm of the NYFD's official Twitter feed, she made contact with and provided information to those having difficulty reaching 911. Rahimi also passed along updates from the mayor's office and urged individuals, through Twitter, not to give up on calling the emergency number, assuring those waiting that help would come.
      Firefighters across the Northeast
Firefighters fanned out across neighborhoods to put out fires and rescue families and individuals whose homes were being destroyed.
In the small village of Lindenhurst, N.Y., for instance, firefighters saved more than 100 families and individuals. In Manhattan, along 14th Street toward the East River, the NYFD also performed rescue missions in areas that were flooded beyond many expectations by the "perfect" elements of the storm's formation.
Meanwhile, in Breezy Point, Queens, firefighters, at first stymied by flooding, attempted to control an inferno that burned down about 100 buildings. But with the 4-foot-high water burying fire hydrants, every moment was met with frustration.

As always my thanks and appreciation to our hosts for their time, giving me a little place to stand, a subject to comment on, a forum to put it in, and their indulgence when I don’t quite get it right or get a little off subject. I purely do appreciate it. Hope you’ll have a fine weekend and good fun among folks that you know and love. To my fellow participants keep well, keep safe, and keep the faith. We’ll make it. See you’ll next week

IR: as usual, right on target, good friend!

This election is stretching on and on and ON! Finally getting to the end!

What oh what have we learned? If we didn't learn anything else this week, we had a BRILLIANT reminder of why our public employees are so critical. Those in the way of the horrific storm on the coast I am sure are grateful for the fireman, police and administrative officials, some of whom put their lives on the line for their neighbor. Mitt Romney, you want to do one honest thing in your life? Get your rich buddies to quit attacking those unions, the only thing that protects those workers from the predators in the Republican Party.

What else have we learned? Mitt Romney is one of the best liars the world has EVER seen. He will tell a whopper, and get all insulted and outraged when he gets called on it. Does he back down? No. He keeps a perfectly straight face and tells the same whopper again, hurt that such a fine fellow like the great Himself should be called to account.

Which leads me to this conclusion. Either Mittens is a hell of a poker player, or he has some unfortunate leanings that sociopaths have, with their inability to recognize right and wrong, truth from lie.

It ought to scare ALL of you that a major party would consider Mittens to be Presidential timber. But it looks like the country is about to send Mittens and Queen Ann off to one of their many homes, and hopefully, as Queen Ann has promised, Mitty will quit running for things.

Mark, Domenico, I am ready for this thing to end, and I bet you are too. Just a few more days, and we can all move on to other things. Thanks for the fine reporting, hope you both have vacations scheduled for after the election.

Feisty! I want one of those Irish Coffees! Headed your way, my friend, lots to discuss tonight!

Have a good weekend, one and all.

Yeh Layton we are going to have the NBC Special on on the Big Screens too for when the Juke Box runs out of tunes. Wouldn't want to make everybody miss the Boss

      Speaking of the "Boss" check this out from NewsforDumbFux no less;

Steve Doocy chimed in: “Keep in mind, there you’ve got Bruce Springsteen and Jon Bon Jovi. Both supported the president of the United States.” And because Fox apparently does not support affirmative action for people of color, but does support ideological quotas for benefit concerts, Doocy asked earnestly, ”Where are the conservative performers?”

Bolling went on to note that during a previous NBC benefit concert to aid the victims of Hurricane Katrina, Kanye West grabbed headlines when he declared that George Bush doesn’t care about black people. “How’s NBC going to control what people say?” Doocy asked. It’s a good question, but one he didn’t ask of, say, last night’s Country Music Awards or his own show whenever they bring a celebrities on air.

“Is it a hurricane benefit or a concert for Obama?” Doocy followed up, despite sounding like he’s already made his mind up. “I don’t know,” Bolling responded woefully.

Well, you know what they say: One man’s Bruce Springsteen charity concert is another man’s secret plot to exploit a tragedy for nefarious political gain

      http://www.salon.com/2012/11/02/fox_attacks_bruce_springsteen_for_hosting_charity_concert/

      These people are positively shameless!!!

IR--I heard a rumor that all the performers from the NBC telethon are having their cast party at the DDI. I'm hoping the Boss can be persuaded to sing "We Take Care of Our Own" because we were reminded this week that Americans do look out for each other.

And I hope everyone goes out to vote for President Obama so he can finish what he started four years ago.

Feisty---did you see where Rush called Gov. Christie a "fat fool". Christie tweeted back--yes, I'm fat and I've been a fool. But I've never been a thrice-divorced fat fool convicted of illegal prescription drugs. Finally someone in the GOP stands up to Rush.

I wonder if Hussein has a concession speech prepared, you know, "just in case." Or will Axelrod, Jarrett and company be frantically feeding the teleprompter at the last minute?

When you're older, you'll understand that candidates prepare a victory and a concession speech, even if they are certain of victory, so the answer is yes.

      Governor Romney has two speeches

      President Obama has 2 speeches

They will each get to read only one of them.

I hope that clears things up...

no concession. if obama "loses" he will declare the results suspect and invalid, and launch an investigation with the power to arrive at the truth. Only when the investigation is over will he consider concession.

Pragmatism is a Clinton virtue and should bode good fortune for Hillary in 2016. I am predicting the country will be in need of a good dose of it.

It's getting desperate in MO today... Since we are referred to as a Red state, we haven't had the tons of TV ads the battleground states have... But today on the local stations, it's been non stop... And I've had 3 robo calls demanding I vote for Todd Akin... I just wish they had been 'live' so I could tell them what I think of them and Akin...

If only, if only... we could turn MO blue on Tuesday... I can dream, can't I? I'm hoping the ladies step up and defy their angry old redneck husbands...

Lyn, sister I HEAR you! The robocalling is hideous, James Dobson? Really?

Man I would love to give them a piece of my mind.

Here is some other 'local' stories of interest:

Did you catch that Akin is dialing Kansans? What a df. I mean seriously? How many votes are you going to get from the 913 area code?

a friend's sister got a call from the romney people making sure she was going to the polls. she was like...uhhh, yeah, but no way i am voting for YOUR guy. and the lady was like....well, i agree with you, but I am just a paid volunteer. pfft. (do you think that's the BEST talent his money could buy? Not even a supporter? Most campaigns use enthusiastic supporters for THOSE jobs, right? Incompetence or Ignorance? You be the judge!)

and finally, in the Kansas Congressional seat, dems failed to run a candidate against Kevin Yoder of I went skinny dipping in the Sea of Galilee, fame (never mind that it is a crime in Israel) so many of my DEM friends in that district are writing in Swim Trunks as the opponent.

                  bwwwwwwwwwwwwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahahaha

Lot's of stuff going on here in the midwest! Just keeping it real!

Watch out Florida! If you do decide to vote this general election please be
aware that a non-vote on any provision or amendment defaults to a ‘no’ vote.
(NOT a non-vote) This is especially important because of the provisions
concerning the State Supreme Court justices that the GOP have targeted for
dismissal. If you do not EXPLICITLY vote ‘yes’ to keep these justices, you are
essentially handing them a pink slip, and giving the GOP a clean slate to pick
whatever partisan judges they choose to replace them. DO NOT BE FOOLED!
Although every other amendment and provision before this has a vote of a ‘no’
to keep the status-quo and not make a change to the current law, a vote of ‘no’
here, or a non-vote – will be tallied in favor of firing the judges in
question. This is a clear attempt by the GOP to manipulate the ballot by
changing the rules, (a non-vote used to be a non-vote, not a ‘no’ vote) and further,
by obfuscating the desired outcome of a clear choice. Please be extra careful
to read all provisions… AND VOTE!!!!!!!
