DOSWELL, VA -- Once again throttling back on his most vociferous attacks on President Barack Obama, Mitt Romney continued his effort to paint the president as a partisan without a plan, and pledged to work across the aisle with Democrats if elected president in his second event of a three-stop Virginia campaign day.

Republican presidential candidate, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney greets supporters at a campaign stop at Meadow Event Park, in Richmond, Va., Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012.
"I'm going to meet regularly with Democrat leaders and Republican leaders. I won't do that once a year, when I say regularly I mean much more frequently than that, because we're going to have to work together," Romney pledged. "These are critical times. This is an election of consequence."
Democrats immediately seized on the irony of Romney delivering these remarks while standing next to House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, R-Va., whom Democrats have long accused of using his power in the House to act as one of the "chief architects" of GOP obstruction to President Obama's agenda.
“For the sole purpose of political gain, congressman Cantor and Republicans in Congress, like Romney’s running mate congressman Ryan, have blocked efforts to achieve a balanced deficit reduction deal and to pass legislation to create jobs now," read a statement from Obama campaign spokeswoman Lis Smith. "The American people need someone who will move us forward, not just serve as a rubber stamp for the right wing.”
Romney, who has dialed down his criticisms of President Obama in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, and as the campaigns move into the closing argument phase, continued to ding the president for what he said was a lack of an agenda and a campaign based upon attacks alone.
GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney hits the campaign trail in Roanoke, Virginia criticizing President Obama's economic and energy policies.
"For a while there he was talking about saving characters on Sesame Street, and then it was word games with my name that he was playing, and then of course he got very anxious and went out there and just attacked me day in and day out," Romney said. "Attacking me does not create an agenda for him."
Romney makes one more appearance in Virginia today: a rally in Virginia Beach that was originally planned for Sunday night, but had to be rescheduled due to the approach of Hurricane Sandy.

The Tea Party would not allow the spineless Romney to be bipartisan because of course Romney would have to pander to his base in order to win reelection in 2016.
BREAKING NEWS:
Washington, D.C.
Today President Barack Obama has announced his new campaign strategy for the last few days of this year's Presidential election. From here on out, the President will be running on his record.
"I stand before you today to ask for your vote for four more years to finish the job we started four long years ago.
Now, when I took office, the economy was much worse than we had anticipated. We were bleeding jobs, and the unemployment rate stood at 7.8%. Today, after the stimulus and adding about $6 trillion to our national debt, we have that rate finally back down to 7.9%. FORWARD!
Now, we have done all of this with a do-nothing Congress which has put party before country. They haven't even been able to pass a budget for my entire term.
We have run trillion+ dollar deficits for each year of my Presidency--something unheard of in America. FORWARD!
We have added the most to the debt in the shortest amount of time for any country in history. FORWARD!
We have not turned our backs on the least fortunate among us. In my Administration, we have added about 17 million Americans to the foodstamp rolls, a number unfathomable to most four years ago. FORWARD!
We have workforce participation rates at their lowest since the 1980's. FORWARD!
We have poverty levels at their highest since the 1960's. FORWARD!
Please help me to finish the job of fundamentally changing America that we started four years ago. Much work has been done, but much remains to be done. FORWARD!
Thank you for your support, and God bless. FORWARD!"
Its is unknown how this new strategy will effect the outcome of the Presidential race.
The latest big lie... to fall out of the romney handlers twisted brains. Romney has never worked across any aisle .... he was a boss that gave orders, and a Governor that used his veto power 800 plus times.... that were happily overridden most of the time.
A vote for romney is a vote for the boss you hated.
Great speech by Mitt in Wisconsin. Very optimistic.
When will the Democrats begin to take respoonsibility for ANYTHING?
2000-2006--GOP Congress (both Houses) and Bush as President. Democrats completely blameless for ANYTHING because they were the minority, and apparently, completely helpless to stop a single thing that they have been telling us for years is "bad policy".
2006-2008--Bush still President, but with a Democratic Congress (both Houses). Democrats still completely helpless to stop a single Bush policy because he was the President. Congress was completely blameless for anything that happened during Bush's term.
2008-2010--President Obama is sworn in with a super-majority. Democrats still completely blameless for ANYTHING because the big, bad GOP "obstructed" them as the MINORITY party
2010-2012--President Obama still in office, but with a GOP-held House and a Democratic Senate. Democrats completely blameless for anything because they didn't have a super majority and were unable to do ANYTHING.
Now tell us all again WHY you support people who:
Can't or won't block a single thing while in the minority
And can't or won't pass anything they deem "good" while in the majority??
Will conservatives EVER believe in climate change?
Ed, some conservatives DO believe in climate change.
Now, about the Dems failing to accept responsibility for ANYTHING at any TIME..........
Yes, and some conservatives KNOW that Obama was born in this country but the MAJORITY believe he was not. Not a ringing endorsement of conservative brain function.
Well, Ed, based on your replies to me, I think that YOU may not be too swift in the brain-funtioning department.
Now, about that whole Democrats failing to accept responsibility for anything thing...........
mikehathaway, at least the Japanese still take responsibility for the bombing of Pearl Harbor, and was over 70 years ago.
History doesn't go away and neither does accountabilty. If you're looking for a group that is allergic to accountability look no further than your right.
Romney won't be meeting with anyone, at least not on as President.
So very true! romney can go back to meeting with and ordering around his underlings .... a great laugh to start my day... thanks.
Again, Romney is willing to say anything but really why would a Republican vote for Obama and the Democrats? Because they realize the current Republican Party really only represents the very few. Because they want the Grande Ole Party, with a sincere interest in the people, back and see the only way to get that is to firmly and totally reject what they have become. Because they recognize the truth, that America isn’t actually close to being a “socialistic” society but is really becoming a “two class” society with the very few (1%) competing in having it all, while the majority (99%) is left struggling (as proven by the constantly growing gap between the very wealthy and everyone else). Because they recognize and understand that our severe problems weren’t caused by taxes on the wealthy or by government spending or even by the deficit but rather are the direct result of aggressive exploitation by the few, costing the majority greatly, with the permissive “puppet” politicians actually being co-responsible. ...
... Because they realize the $17T debt isn’t just Obama’s doing but that it’s dynamic growth started under Bush-Cheney, after they blew through the surplus given them by Clinton, and that Bush-Cheney actually took this country to several crisis points, which they simply passed on to Obama, who then fought to address them over the Republican’s irresponsible faulting and stubborn blocking, without the Republicans ever having any conscience or concern for the people. Because they see “the money” is aggressively and arrogantly working against the population, obnoxiously and insultingly taking the people for granted, to achieve “the money’s” goal of always “more” for them. Because the Republican Party’s actions clearly show that their rhetoric is always just subterfuge to put over their self-serving pursuit of their political ambitions, at any cost to the people. Because they don’t want to return to “more of the same”, Bush-Cheney style, that can only result in “more of the same” and again just cost the majority greatly. And maybe just because they are part of the 99% and not the 1%, ... and then very possibly just because they want to vote their conscience!
If President Romney meets with Democrats he will do something that Obama hasn't done! Obama doesn't meet with Republicans because he doesn't meet with Democrats! We have a leader who doesn't lead; we have an EMPTY CHAIR.
Romney actually didn't know the names of state leaders in his own party when he was governor. True story.
Ed, just because YOU write "true story" doesn't make it so.
You mean Governor Romney.
"DemoCRAT leaders"????? What about the Democratic leaders; are you going to work with them?
Ooooh, Lois, way to focus on the IMPORTANT things!
He MADE THE SAME PROMISES TO MA! Instead he tried to eliminate them all!
THE TRUTH: Romney Lied. He did not "work with" MA Democrats - he tried eliminate them all!
Didn't Obama try to work across the aisle when he was elected? And all he was met with was contempt and obstruction. How will the Republicans feel when the same happens to their candidate if he gets elected? I can honestly see the Democrats given these lame ducks in Congress a taste of their own medicine. And rightly so. But in reality, would more of the same obstruction and ignorance be good for the country? I wonder how far along our country would be if the Republicans and Tea baggers didn't go to such extremes to make this president a one term president.
Oh, get off that "one-term" bs.
Just name me two (2) Democrats who tried to make sure Bush was reelected. Otherwise your argument is rather hollow.
In case you haven't ever noticed, the opposition party is ALWAYS trying to make the incumbent whatever a "one-termer".
mikehathaway, don't even try and compare those two things.
You look pathetically desperate...
The Republicans made it their number #1 Goal after being elected and not before. Before their election they promised Bipartisan Solutions and making jobs was the #1 Goal, but instead changed it to the making the Prez a 1 term President and obstructing the recovery of our economy.
In 4 years as Governor of Massachusetts, Romney Vetoed his Democratic Legislature 844 times of which he was Overturned 707 times by the Legislature, some unanimously.
In his 4 years, the only Republican Bill of 'his' that Romney was able to push/convince/bribe the Legislature to pass was RomneyCare.
How's that for Bipartisanship and positive legislation?
Romney will never get bipartisanship. Money bags, your nose is still growing!
Once again, Mitt the Twit promising ANYTHING to get elected!! He has been shown to be one of the most partisan members of congress. This will not change if he somehow gets elected.
Here is a truly novel idea :
Why don't we do everything we can to assure that Governor W. Mitt Romney is a one-term President ?
We could pledge to do that on the day of his inauguration..... That's quite an original idea, isn't it ? I am soooo proud of myself for coming up with it.......
Sounds a little familiar but a great idea.
Norquist said all Romney will need to do is sign legislation his minions in congress pass. Thats it. We will have an un-elected person running the country. This man is a really dangerous power hungry nut. He cant find a hat that fits his head anymore. Look it up on youtube.
From the mouth of Grover Norquist, he explains that the Republicans don't want a thinker or a leader in the White House, but merely someone who can hold a pen and sign what he is told to sign (effectively making Norquist the President, with no accountability.)
Mitt has never publicly refuted this statement by his boss Norquist.
And we all know how bi-partisan Nitquist is.
Romney promising Bipartisanship would resemble the same as Marco Rubio in Florida. Rubio " Promised to find Bipartisan Solutions when he ran but instead showed no Kahunas to do what was right for Americans or Floridians and he is just a Partisan Puppet toting the political line of the Republicans.
Plus, Romney is still hiding his numbers and does he really think we are dumb, His real change is a change back to trickle on me , voodoo , supply side economics that got us in trouble to start with and has never worked in history, ever.
Furthermore, I have already seen enough of preemptive strikes and wars that are crushing our economy with debt. Just think back when Bush was in office and they were saying " War is good for the economy". Where is Bush and why is he not showing his face to get Romney elected?
Liar!!! . . . Robme wouldn't know the TRUTH if it bit him in the ass! With a president like him you'd never know what to believe. But his wealthy cronies don't care one bit. Their only agenda is money and obviously they will lie, cheat and steal for it. That's the type of people Robme attracts and helps. If you're not one of his "cronies", you're on the outside looking in. Is that the kind of scum we want in the White House? -- a "feeder" of the very rich, that's all this man is.
Yeah, Right. Romney compromise with "then"?
If that were to happen, EVERY TPer would immediately disown him and his presidency would go down (up?) in flames. To the TPers there is no compromise and ANYONE that attempts will be immediately destroyed.
No need you faking lier, you will never be elected
Obama 2012
I hope mitt gets hit by a train,,and Ryan be a plane. Ha he ho both now must go
Tea bagger a$$ holes need to go next
I would support Democrat filibusters to keep any republican budget from being implemented. We will make sure that Democrats increase significantly the filibuster relative to Republicans over the past 4 years. The Right Agenda is very dangerous to America and must be stopped at any cost.
Romney supports Mourdock. He's the guy who said the Democrats will have to kow-tow to the GOP. Bi-partisan, my foot!
Romney won't be able to work with Democrats even if he wanted to. He will owe his presidency to the Tea Party, the evangelicals, the neocons, and the billionaires. These are zealots who have a blank space in their dictionaries where the words "compromise" and "negotiation" should be.
He'll have to sign whatever they put in front of him or face a primary challenge in 2016.
In any case, he doesn't want bi-partisanship. The Democratic legislature in Massachusetts had to override his veto numerous times.
