First lady 'heartbroken' by toll from Hurricane Sandy

JACKSONVILLE, FL -- First lady Michelle Obama told a crowd of supporters today that she is "heartbroken" by the toll of Hurricane Sandy.

"We are heartbroken about the lives that have been lost and all the damage that has been done in so many of our communities," Obama said, adding that her husband, President Barack Obama, is working "around the clock" with governors and mayors and first responders.

"I know that one of things that we do in times of crisis is come together," Obama said.

It was a message of unity that may have been tinged with politics, too, evoking images of Obama and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie touring the devastated New Jersey coastline yesterday.

Christie, Republican, has been one of the president's fiercest critics but this week has praised his leadership.

The first lady's event here in Jacksonville drew 4,700 people, the campaign said.

The crowd was treated to a brief show from Stevie Wonder beforehand, who told the audience that the president is "for all people."

"You know what amazes me is when I hear all these various people talking crazy," Wonder said of the president's opponents. "I say, 'They must be blinder than me.'"

The first lady delivered her usual early vote message, declaring that voting early and volunteering is part of the campaign's "five-day plan" in the run up to Nov. 6.

Earlier, a campaign field organizer announced that vans were waiting to bring members of the crowd to a polling station inside a city library.

I'd be more impressed if she were "heartbroken" over the brave Americans who were slaughtered while pleading for the help that her husband denied them.

Johnny could only sing one note
And the note he sings was this
BEN (g)Ah!(zee)

Poor Johnny one-note
sang out with "gusto"
And just overlorded the place
Poor Johnny one-note
yelled willy nilly
Until he was bleu in the face
For holding one note was his ace

Couldn’t hear the brass
Couldn’t hear the drum
He was in a class
By himself, by gum!

The First Lady and this President have done more for our service men than anyo

First Lady Michelle and Dr. Jill Biden have done massive work for Joining Forces and military families. Just amazing work on behalf of the military.

Earlier this year:

"First Lady Michelle Obama traveled to Naval Station Mayport, Florida to
announce that more than 2,000 businesses who have participated in her Joining
Forces initiative have hired or trained more than 125,000 veterans and military
spouses in the past year.

Mrs. Obama also announced that these same companies
have committed to build on the momentum to date and have pledged to hire or
train 250,000 veterans and spouses in the coming years. The First Lady's event
at Naval Station Mayport was livestreamed by the Department of Defense to every
U.S. military base around the world.

One year ago, the President announced a series of measures to increase
veterans' employment and he asked the First Lady and Dr. Biden to lead an effort
with the private sector through Joining Forces to hire or train 100,000 veterans
and military spouses by the end of 2013.

Joining Forces efforts to date have
exceeded the President's challenge to the private sector with hiring milestones
met more than a year early.

The First Lady also reiterated her challenge to states to pass legislation
that reduces the financial and administrative strains that 100,000 military
spouses incur from trying to get their state licenses or certification
credentials to transfer from state to state as they move. Mrs. Obama and Dr.
Jill Biden made their pitch to governors in February of this year when only 11
states had legislation on the books supporting military spouse license
portability.

In just six months the number of states with supportive measures in
place has more than doubled to 26 states."

It is Romney who is a patently dishonest man, and no hope for it.

Plus he has done it all on-camera.

Ask Chrysler and G.M. -- now busy roasting Romney for lying about them.

Kanin, I answered you oon the other thread. If you want us to declare war on Libya, just say so!

After the Mission was burned and all personnel were evacuated, captured, or dead; the terrorists then attacked the Annex. CIA operators at the Annex called again for military support and help. The request was denied. One member of the team was on the roof of the annex manning a heavy machine gun when mortars were fired at the CIA compound. He had a designation laser pointing at the Libyan mortar team that was targeting the CIA annex, and the operators were calling in coordinates of where the Libyan forces were firing from. They apparently thought that the two Predator drones overhead could use their Hellfire missiles on the mortar location.

If you wingnuts wanted Obama to launch a military attack in a city of over a million people in a friendly country with a pro-US population and start another stupid war, just come out and say it. We have had enough of your neocon shoot first and ask questions later mentality and we will be paying the price for your Iraqi adventure for generations. Any general that had Benghazi in his sphere of responsibility would would realize doing what you suggest would be felony stupid.

Geraldo slams ‘GOP bloodlust’ over Benghazi

Geraldo Rivera slammed the politicization of the attack in Benghazi, firing off a series of tweets while hunkered down at home in Edgewater, N.J., during Hurricane Sandy. Rivera, the Fox News contributor and "Geraldo at Large" host, criticized the controversy being pushed by some conservatives.

It's "clear no C130 gunships were available," Rivera tweeted. "Criticize coverup [but] saying White House watched [and] did nothing to help is a lie."

Complaints crop up in Ohio of early voting machines marking Romney votes for Obama

Published October 31, 2012

FoxNews.com

Early voting problems in the key battleground state of Ohio are fueling concerns in the final days until Election Day, with the national race essentially tied in the latest Fox News poll.

After several early voters in North Carolina said last week they cast ballots for Mitt Romney but the electronic ballot machine logged their pick as President Obama, similar problems have popped up this week in Ohio.

Voters said they selected Romney on the touch screen but an Obama vote was logged instead.

"You want to vote for who you want to vote for, and when you can't it's irritating," Ohio voter Joan Steven told the Marion Star.

If any of the alternative parties would have a chance to get in and do something, I might consider them. As it is, neither the Greens, the Libertarians or any of the other parties can seem to get enough candidates together, let alone a winning party.

Perhaps when the Republicans lose the White House, maybe enough disaffected Tea Partiers will leave and form their own party. That will allow the Republicans to go back to being a party of fiscal conservatives who are moderate on social issues and they will go back to trying to govern. We can only hope.

In the mean time, the only real choice left is the Democratic Party.

We're discussing the re-election of Barry O - not Bush. Barry O is complicit in the deaths of American he swore an oath to protect - and has been lying like a rug to cover his butt. You are both wrong - as usual.

First, there is quite a lot of documented evidence proving the information was given to the White House, that Barry was watching this unfold in real time with state department and military people. Barry says he's told the people all he knows about this - twice - and both times lying about that.Take off the blinders, put down the kool-aid.

Second - I voted against W both times - and still wish Gore had won Florida.

That, however, didn't keep me from recognizing what a low-life, no character, no morals buffoon Barry is. Kool-aid drinkers - you know - the ones that always vote party lines so they don't have to think and like being led around by the nose by NBC and CNN - can't take their heads out long enough to see the truth.

I'm with you Steeler Fan. If Ann Romney told me she was heartbroken over the misery of others, it just wouldn't feel as deeply genuine to me. A woman approached Mitt during the campaign sobbing that she hoped he won and would then do something to help destitute people like her family... Mitt was at first delighted by her support, but she was crying so loudly that he ended up basically pushing her away from him with a "Well...God Bless You!". I want people in government who really care about other people, and care enough to use "genuine GM parts" when they try to FIX something!

From where I observe both the President and the First Lady care very much about ordinary people. From comments made by Ann Romney I doubt she would care as much. She'd rather they "eat cake".

Mitt certainly doesn't care. The canned food drive was a feeble attempt to make him look like he cares but as usual he acted before talking to the right people. The Red Cross said they didn't want the food donations but preferred money as they have the contacts and resources to better help than a few hundred cans of tuna fish can do.

A sociopath such as Mitt Romney will fein caring but they really only care about their own self interest. The canned food thing was merely a means to an end. A way Romney thought would make him look like he actually cared about people when he really doesn't.

        The Sociopath in Chief

        Friday, August 17th, 2012 | Posted
        by Michael Chester
Can We Survive a Romney Presidency?

        By
        Michael Chester

        Webster’s Dictionary defines a
sociopath as: “someone who behaves in a dangerous or violent way towards other
people and does not feel guilty about such behavior.” In everyday usage it can
be used to mean someone who has no conscience; someone who only cares about
what benefits himself or herself with no regard for the suffering or loss of
        others
        .

When most people tell a lie, they
have “tells.” They may look away, give too much or too little detail, have
increased heart rate and many other indicators. They feel a sense of guilt for
lying and it shows. For a sociopath, lying comes naturally and without that
pesky conscience, they can be very convincing. Their only concern is getting
        what they want.

        The most famous sociopath from
recent history is probably, serial killer, Ted Bundy. He was intelligent,
charming and handsome: a deadly combination for a sociopath. He was able to
charm young women into trusting him even during a time when women should have
been even more aware of ‘stranger danger” than they normally are. His
sociopathy served him well. He could lie convincingly and his charm and
handsomeness only made him more attractive.

There are several jobs that are
perfect for the sociopath, such as being a hit man. Feeling no guilt, he is
able to carry out the murder simply to make money. A normal person would suffer
tremendous feelings of guilt for that type of behavior. A military sniper can
justify his job believing that what he does is for the greater good and may
save the lives of people on his side, but in talking to former soldiers who
were snipers, they said that they still have some conflicted feelings about
what they had to do. A sociopath would feel no conflict.

Another good job for a sociopath is
as a vulture capitalist. This is a person who takes control of a valuable
company, sucks out all of the money and discards what is left. He has no regard
for those individuals who have spent their lives building a company they can be
proud of or the employees that lose their jobs as a result. His only concern is
how much money can be made. By now, most of you have heard of the trail of
destruction left by Mitt Romney and Bain Capital. For those not familiar with
their behavior I will give a brief analogy. Suppose you borrowed money and
bought a new car. Upon its delivery, you took it to a chop shop and had all of
the valuable parts removed and sold. You then took what was left to a scrapyard
and sold it as scrap. You then filed for bankruptcy and got out of paying back
the car loan, but keeping all of the money you got along the way. If you had a
lot of chutzpah you might even file an insurance claim to get paid for the loss
of the car. Of course, in the real world, you would be arrested and charged
with multiple counts of fraud, but in Mitt Land this is all legal.

A lot of jokes have been made about
strapping his dog to the roof of the car for a road trip, but how could anyone
with an ounce of human compassion for his family’s pet treat him so cruelly?
Only a sociopath would put his convenience ahead of the health and safety of
his children’s pet. Why? To have more room for his valuables or maybe so he
didn’t have to listen to the dog’s barking. Animal cruelty is one of earliest
indicators of a sociopathic personality and often precedes human cruelty.

As a candidate, Mitt Romney has
changed his position on so many things so many times, that the running joke is:
“If you don’t like Mitt’s position on something, wait five minutes and he will
change it.” As a sociopath, he has no problem saying whatever he feels his
audience wants to hear. All politicians do this to a point, but most have a
line that they won’t cross. If such a line exists for Mitt Romney, no one has
        yet to see it.

He has that same deadly combination
of traits that Ted Bundy had; he is charming, handsome, educated, and
intelligent. Unlike Bundy, his goals are money, power and prestige, not literal
rape and murder. These are more socially acceptable goals and I guess we can be
grateful for that. Many “normal” people share these goals and attributes and
there is nothing wrong with them, it is how you go about achieving them. The
sociopath will do whatever it takes with the only limits being what he can get
        away with.

Along the way he has picked up some
endorsements that one could reasonably question. He has been endorsed by the
National Rifle Association as a pro gun candidate even though his history is
far from a pro gun position. Here is a brief history of how his position has
        “evolved.”

        From the 2008 Opposition Research
report prepared by the McCain Campaign.

        • In 1994 Senate race, Romney backed
Brady bill and assault weapons ban, saying “I don’t line up with the NRA” and
“that’s not going to make me the hero of the NRA.”
        • Romney called Clinton crime bill “a
          big step forward.”
        • As governor, Romney quadrupled gun
licensing fees and vowed not to “chip away” at tough gun laws
        • In 2004, Romney signed permanent
state-level ban on assault weapons that was mirrored after federal assault
          weapons ban.
        • In January 2006, Romney said he
owned a gun – then two days later admitted he did not and the gun belonged to
          his son.
        • Romney bragged about being member of
the NRA but later revealed he didn’t join until August 2006, just before
          launching his presidential campaign.
        • Romney recently said he’s “been a
hunter pretty much all my life” but later admitted he hunted only twice in his
life, later clarifying remarks by claiming he has hunted “small varmints … more
          than two times.”
        • In 2006 press conference, Romney
claimed he had been hunting “many times” after returning from quail hunt in
          Georgia.

        In an editorial endorsing Mitt
Romney, Guns and Ammo Magazine writer Doug Howlett stated:

        Life Under Romney

Whether you believe Romney is a true
champion of the Second Amendment or feel he’s saying what he must to get
elected, odds are if the NRA helps him win, his gratitude will be such that he
won’t do anything to upset that support throughout his term. That means it is
doubtful we will see a return to any “assault weapons” bans or other federal
legislation that will infringe upon gun rights. Without question, where gun
rights are concerned, Romney is the hands down choice.

Now there is a ringing endorsement.
What he is actually saying is that no matter what Mitt Romney actually
believes, he has received his thirty pieces of silver (actually with inflation
it is several million pieces of silver) and is now bought and paid for. He will
do whatever we tell him to do.

To be fair, President Obama has also
shifted his position on gun control over the years. As president, he has signed
legislation that permits Amtrak passengers to carry guns in their checked
baggage and another that allows visitors to national parks and wildlife refuges
to possess concealed guns. He has not pushed for actions he supported in his
2008 campaign, including closing the so-called “gun show loophole” that allows
unlicensed private firearm sellers to sell weapons at gun shows without
conducting the background checks and reporting requirements that registered gun
        dealers must conduct.

Here is a clip from the HBO series,
Newsroom. The show is a fictional account of a TV news station, but the facts
presented here and the clips within the clip are real.

The bottom line on the gun issue is
that regardless of the outcome of the election, not much will change. The
president does not have the authority to usurp the second amendment and
Congress does not have the will to substantially change the laws.

Romney has promised that if elected,
on day one he will repeal “Obamacare.” He has also promised to do about 20
other things on day one so it should be a busy day. Of course, the health care
legislation was passed by congress and signed into law and it would take an act
of congress to repeal it so he lying again. The Supremes have upheld the
penalty on those who can afford to purchase health care insurance but choose
not to, calling it a tax. Of course, Mitt has jumped on the word “tax” and is
now claiming that Obama is imposing a new high tax on everyone. The tax only
applies to those who are able to afford insurance and choose to not buy it.
Here, let me have an expert explain it in detail, as reported on Fox News. (not
exactly a bastion of liberal views)

Mitt Romney has finally chosen a
clone er… running mate and I find the choice of Paul Ryan to be a curious one.
I don’t see an advantage in this choice as supporters of Ryan were already
firmly in Romney’s camp. It also focuses scrutiny on the Ryan budget plan, a
plan so extreme that even some conservatives find it onerous. Romney has his
own plan to benefit the one percent, but it is slightly different. Basically it
treats the middle class like a target company from his Bain days. Squeeze all
of the money out that you can and discard what is left.

        I can understand the disappointment
people feel towards Barack Obama: I feel much of it myself. The economy has
only made modest gains and we are still in Afghanistan. At least he has
resisted attacking Iran, which I believe is in Romney’s plans. If there were a
“none of the above” option on the ballot, I believe that none would win in a
landslide, but given the reality that the real choice boils down to Obama and
Romney, the choice should be obvious. Hold your nose and do what you have to
        do.

        This sums it all up.

Certainly, while no Ted Bundy or John Wayne Gasey Romney does show that he is a sociopath. Perhaps if he weren't as wealthy as he is he would be right up there in fame with Bundy and Gacey.

Obama's sacrifice of Americans at Benghazi is a simple, clear example of the incompetence that makes Obama unfit to be our President. There are many, many other examples, but this is the one that is currently being covered up and stonewalled. It is an ongoing issue that is being inadequately covered in the left-wing media.

Just a generally bad day all around for Team I-Hate-America:

        Consumer confidence at 4-year high

By Emily Jane Fox @CNNMoneyNovember 1, 2012: 11:01 AM ET

        Couple of excerpts:

A key factor behind Americans' optimism, was the improving employment picture. The number of workers reporting that jobs were "plentiful" increased more than 2%. People who are expecting more jobs in the coming months increased to 19.2% from 18.1%.

        And:

It marks the highest level since February 2008, when the country was at the early stages of a long and deep recession.

It comes on the heels of this:

Private hiring jumps, unemployment claims fall

        By Tami Luhby @CNNMoneyNovember 1, 2012: 1:11 PM ET

A high low note or two on this one for you:

Private employers added 158,000 jobs in the month, ADP (ADP, Fortune 500) said, beating economists' forecasts of 143,000.

        And:

Meanwhile, about 363,000 people filed for first-time unemployment benefits in the week ended October 27, down 9,000 from the previous week, the Labor Department said Thursday. That beat economists' estimates of 375,000.

Hmf. I guess Team I-Hate-America will just have to keep talking about Benghazi some more. Doesn't look like any other good news is on the horizon for them.

If Obama is re-elected, heaven forbid, do you think the AG will keep this out of the process due to sensitive information as he did during Fast & Furious issue?

No, I just think you're an idiot for believing a 'coverup' occurred when the information you are getting to 'prove' your coverup is coming from the very people you are accusing of covering it up. Do you realize how asinine that sounds?

Our country is at war with terrorists. Sometimes the terrorists attack back. Sometimes they kill people. Instead of honoring our ambassador, who by all accounts, loved the Libyan people and wanted nothing but the best for that country, you have instead turned it into a political football. His father has asked you to stop it. The parents of other victims have asked you to stop it. But you won't.

        Why?

Because it's all you have at this point. Your 'news' network has covered this stupidity for 55 minutes out of every hour for the last three days, despite the fact that this nation is in the middle of facing one of the greatest national disasters in decades. Do you even realize how bad it is? Or are you so caught up in Fox that you think this hurricane is basically just like every other hurricane and will just sort of blow over?

        Get. Over. It.

The terrorists attacked back. We lost some people. It was horrible and the best way to honor them is to continue the work they were there to do and the work they wanted to spend their lives doing.

The Libyan people loved out ambassador. Tens of thousands of them marched in pro-US rallies and they took to the streets to run the islamist militias out of Benghazi. If the trigger happy war mongering neocons would of had their way, those Libyans who marched in favor of us would be outraged at being attacked by the US, the fledgling pro-US government would be undermined, and the islamist would be stronger than ever. Of course, they all think this is a Sylvestor Stallone movie in which the credits will roll and everyone will live happily ever after. Simplistic, stupid and entirely Republican!

nice straw man argument. No one is claiming that we shouldn't look into what happened at Benghazi. No one is saying that we shouldn't determine what the intelligence failures were and correct the problems, or that this incident is insignificant and not worthy of attention.

What we are saying is that national security issues shouldn't be a political football, used in the rovian election game to smear and slander the commander in chief when many of the decisions on the consulate (not embassy which has a completely different security force of US marines while a consulate relies on the host country to defend) never came to his desk, but was handled by the state department. Funding for consulate security was cut by congress, so if you're so outraged, i'd look at your congressional representative and burn their ear off for not funding our ambassadors security needs (i've already done so by email).

There weren't outrages against previous administrations when embassies, consulates, and military bases were attacked, and to do so with this instance just shows the partisan agenda you have. That is why most people have problems with the way Fox and the right wing blogosphere is handling Benghazi. They didn't give a rat's arse about the embassy/ambassador attacks under 43, but now 4 Americans dead in the middle east is cause for impeachment. hypocrisy at its finest.

        Tzalaran,

false analogy. 11 years have passed, and Bush isn't running for office. 6 weeks after 9/11/2001 you didn't have a democrat manufactured controversy about the 9/11 attacks, you had bipartisan support for a sitting president in a time of horror. There wasn't a political party and "news" channel flooding misinformation to the public about the cause of the terrorist strike back then, and people weren't blaming bush for the incident. that came years after when it had been examined without bias, and the facts were revealed.

See the difference, or are you just blinded by your political affiliation and content to use faulty logic to defend against the cognitive dissonance?

i'll be the first to hold President Obama to task for what he is responsible for (i'm not a big fan of the enhanced drone strikes, how he's followed the bush doctrine on surveillance, and how he's running a kill list as judge jury and executioner), but i'll not sit by and watch him be falsely accused of things when it is for purely political purposes.

The facts are this as i see them: The president's platform does the most good for the most people of this country, and for that reason alone i prefer him. The policies that Mr. Romney wants to enact have already been done in american history. The result was the roaring '20s and the crash that came after, also known as the great depression. The past 11 years of war has shown us that a war will not stimulate our economy like WWII did to stop the great depression, so we need to try new ideas and new things in order to move this country into the 21st century, or we'll just be another speed bump in history. You can either learn from history, or be doomed to repeat it.

        i prefer to learn.

          I agree.

First, with the fact that the people who plan on voting for Mr. Romney sure seem to hate America. If they didn't, they wouldn't call people horrid names, be racist, and/or act so desperate and defensive towards anyone who opines or analyzes that Mr. Obama is leading - and will eventually win - this thing.

And I paused before I wrote this because it's no easy thing to think or say about a fellow American. I can't figure out where it has come from (other than how they were whipped up by Karl Rove). But I feel truly sad about the fact that we can't disagree with them without fear of being bullied. It is, in my opinion, one of the most serious and important things happening in our culture right now.

I also agree that their response this week to anyone who points out anything that they don't like - for example, that Mr. Obama is going to win per the polls and the momentum he has - is to try and deflect by talking about Benghazi. And they can, and I'm sure will, keep it up until they are blue in the fingertips, but it isn't doing them any good in their goals. In fact, I think it's probably doing the opposite. It makes them look like their party has its head in the sand - pun not intended - and that they care about nothing else but winning.

Not even the destruction from Sandy.

Neither thing serves their purpose. And the fact that they don't know this might be the clue to why they keep losing elections.

It comes from an entire generation being basically raised by Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Ann Coulter and believing that's the way to talk to people. It also comes because they have not had a political candidate for president who has truly inspired them since 1984, so they believe that every political candidate more or less sucks and the sort of crappy cynicism they feel about the political process is the way everyone feels.

Now, I don't know about you or any others, but I would say that most of us are happily willing to do our part as Americans to help pay for some of the destruction that has ruined so many lives and taken precious lives. I have no problem whatsoever paying a little more out of my paycheck to help in recovering the financial burden this puts on our country. That is, to me, the extreme difference between us and "those people".

1funnygirl-Sure, the conservatives and moderates listen to Fox,

Its a very far stretch to think that "moderates" would watch FOX. I think its telling that FOX "News" was denied a license to broadcast from Canada because Canada has regulations forbidding News programs there to lie. What a slap down that was.

The FCC needs to reinstate the fairness doctrine again here,on News broadcasting. That would put a stop to all these right-wing TV and radio programs lying. I doubt that they would have to go off the air,but would be forced to clean-up their lying. Most of those people don't even believe their own lies anyway. They just do it to get a bigger audience and more money.

So what else is the first lady doing to help the victims? Stumping for her husband doesn't count.

Absolutely not news - and great post Zman - you nailed it. I doubt that she is heartbroken as she would like us to believe.

The sooner these two losers and their kids hit the street the better for our country.

First time in her life she was proud of her country was in 2008? It's been a long dry spell since I was proud of who was in the White House.

On election day next Tuesday, let's come together and help President Obama learn a valuable Life Lesson that Millions of Americans have learned these past 4 years.

What it's like to lose your job due to a Failed Economic Plan.

          Uh, let's not.

Let's instead vote for the President whose intellect dwarfs the accumulated IQ of every candidate the Republicans put up this year. You know...the mixed race guy.

Moochelle is heartbroken that she can't get started on her next Lavish vacation right away.

Maybe she could have Air Force One all gassed up, and the Hotels all booked for the day after the election.

Think about this. The Obama's could spend the rest of his sorry term on continuous vacation, and it wouldn't make any difference at all. That's how much work he does anyway.

Guys like you, Joe, live in fear that your woman secretly desires a black man. So you strike out at the black man by attacking his woman because you also secretly fear getting your ass kicked otherwise.

I call bullsh** on the governmental/institutional global warming agenda. If anyone even remotely connected with government or academia was interested in changing carbon emissions, they would be advocating for the demise of motorsports! Believe what you will, but the manufactured religion/psychology of Global Warming/Climate Change is based on $$ and who is going to get said $$.

Moochelle Obummer "heartbroken" over the storm victims? What an enormous load of crap! This liberal MSN site is nothing but nonstop Obama worship. It's one article after another kissing the bubble butts of these two miscreants. It's bad enough that we have to support these bums for another four years, but give us a break with the BS about how much these two freeloaders care about other people. I'm surprised she took her snout out of the public trough and raised up long enough to even remark about the storm victims, and then it was only an attempt at damage control for her lazy ass husband who, other than a photo op, hasn't done jack for any of those poor people. But they line up to vote for him out there in lib land, so I can only feel so much for them, since they helped put him back in there again. You can't fix stupid.
