Bloomberg endorses Obama, citing Sandy and climate change

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg endorsed President Barack Obama on Thursday, invoking Hurricane Sandy and the president's work to address climate change.

As New York reels from the fallout of this week's hurricane, which caused 37 deaths in the city, Bloomberg said Obama was better-suited than Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney to curb carbon emissions.

The President tried to make up for lost time on Thursday, launching a five-day battleground tour and also collecting an endorsement from New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg. Romney, meanwhile, hammered away at Obama during a campaign stop in Virginia. NBC's Peter Alexander reports.

"The devastation that Hurricane Sandy brought to New York City and much of the Northeast – in lost lives, lost homes and lost business – brought the stakes of Tuesday’s presidential election into sharp relief," Bloomberg wrote. "Our climate is changing. And while the increase in extreme weather we have experienced in New York City and around the world may or may not be the result of it, the risk that it might be – given this week's devastation – should compel all elected leaders to take immediate action."

The three-term mayor and billionaire further lauded Obama for taking "major steps to reduce our carbon consumption." In turn, Bloomberg said that on the issue of climate change, Romney had "reversed course, abandoning the very cap-and-trade program he once supported."

A former Republican who has since declared himself independent, Bloomberg did not make an endorsement for president in 2008. He cited other issues, including Obama's health care reform law, approach to abortion rights and support for same-sex marriage, in reaching his conclusion.

Eduardo Munoz / Reuters

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg speaks to the media during a news conference about Updates to New Yorkers on Preparations for Hurricane Sandy in New York, October 26, 2012.

"I'm honored to have Mayor Bloomberg's endorsement. I deeply respect him for his leadership in business, philanthropy and government, and appreciate the extraordinary job he's doing right now, leading New York City through these difficult days," Obama said in a statement.

The endorsement comes, though, amid one of the worst storms to batter the New York area in recent history, Obama's response to which has drawn him plaudits from a bipartisan array of figures, including New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R).

Obama also added: "While we may not agree on every issue, Mayor Bloomberg and I agree on the most important issues of our time - that the key to a strong economy is investing in the skills and education of our people, that immigration reform is essential to an open and dynamic democracy, and that climate change is a threat to our children's future, and we owe it to them to do something about it."

*** UPDATE *** An Obama campaign official told NBC's Kristen Welker it's impossible to know the impact of the endorsement but called it a "net positive" citing the fact that Bloomberg has an audience of independent-minded voters. Campaign officials say they were made aware the of the endorsement before Bloomberg announced it.

One Republican operative suggested the endorsement could actually hurt the president calling Bloomberg "the most anti-gun politician" in the country. The operative predicted the endorsement won't play well in states with heavy-hunting populations like, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania or Minnesota.  "So congratulations, Mr. President," the operative said sardonically.

So the two great centrist figures in the US, Colin Powell and Mayor Bloomberg both endorsed Obama. While the wingnuts will scream that "Obama is a socialist" Bloomberg's endorsement shows that he really is a centrist in an era in which the Republicans have gone so far to the right that they have fallen off the rails. At a time of national crisis, Obama looked like a leader and Willard looks like a pathetic small minded pretender. Has Willard even figured out his talking points on whether or not he wants to keep FEMA yet?

We may have already tipped too far.

But if the whole world stops burning coal - we might stand a chance.

"Clean" coal is a start, but whatever we do - we must invest and get into gear.

We could lead the world in green energy, if we put our minds to it. We're already second in the world in wind energy. We're reducing imported oil under President Obama. We can make big investments in clean energy manufacturing. If a wee country like Germany and produce all its own energy, enough to sell to its neighbors, we can do it too.

After the Mission was burned and all personnel were evacuated, captured, or dead; the terrorists then attacked the Annex. CIA operators at the Annex called again for military support and help. The request was denied. One member of the team was on the roof of the annex manning a heavy machine gun when mortars were fired at the CIA compound. He had a designation laser pointing at the Libyan mortar team that was targeting the CIA annex, and the operators were calling in coordinates of where the Libyan forces were firing from. They apparently thought that the two Predator drones overhead could use their Hellfire missiles on the mortar location.

They repeatedly requested back-up support from a Spectre gunship, which is commonly used by Special Ops forces to provide support to teams on the ground involved in intense firefights. The Gunship was never even allowed to take off.

The team inside the annex captured three of the attackers, but were then forced to hand them over to the Libyans the next day. U.S. officials do not know what happened to those three attackers.

The fighting at the CIA annex went on for four more hours -- enough time for any planes based in Sigonella Air base, just 480 miles away, to arrive. A Special Ops team that specializes in counter-terrorism rescues was also on hand at Sigonella. They could have flown to Benghazi in less than two hours. They were told to “wait.”

After waiting in vain for backup, and fighting continuously for almost six hours, Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty were killed by blasts and shrapnel from mortar rounds that hit the compound at about 4 AM. One or both may not have died instantaneously and may have kept on fighting, since there were bloody hand prints on their rooftop machine gun.

It was pretty funny how all the right wing parrots were chirping about How Obama didn't go to New York yesterday wasn't it? Now John Sununu will come out and say Bloomberg endorsed Obama because he is half white!

Let's face places like Chicago, NY, LA are olny going to survive with massive hand outs from other conservative governments

Maybe the folks in NY, IL and CA should limit what they pay into the federal government in taxes what those states receive in federal government services and let the red state mooches pay their own way for once. I would also love to see a comparison of the local response of a disaster in LA, NY or Chicago with one in a red state backwater like New Orleans, which was too cheap to build their own damn levees and had their police officers loot and shoot unarmed black people.

I was not suggesting that New Orleans had to move or not be rebuilt. I'm just saying that if your city is in a bowl surrounded by water, it would be in their best interest to take the initiative and make sure that the levees are adequate to take a CAT 5 hurricane. Instead, they let the federal government and the Army Corp of Engineers handle it. California does not wait for the Army Corp of Engineers to retrofit our bridges after a major earthquake and update our building standards, the state takes on that responsiblity. I'll bet New York won't wait on the federal government either. But that is a blue state way of doing things.

I take you to mean...."those WELFARE STATE Lib'ruls are stealing all our tax money" Do I read you correct there UAW~?

You DO realize....Illinois, New York, New Jersey, California and Texas pay FAR MORE into our Treasury in Federal Taxes than they ever take out?

Just one point of reference here....because there are MANY!!!!

http://visualizingeconomics.com/2010/02/17/federal-taxes-paidreceived-for-each-state

And notice those fine "upstanding" RED states....who take back in government benefits far more than they pay in? Wouldn't slashing Government spending pretty much cut off programs funding for the very states opposed to government intrusion....while they quietly take handouts from the Treasury?

I ask you in all fairness, WHO are you really fighting for? What are you so angry at?

There was a terrible storm, many people died and our citizens NEEDS OUR HELP....RIGHT NOW!!! So put your politics asside, roll up the sleeves and let's work together to get it done. If you just want to point fingers and bitch....get the hell out-ah the way.

I would expect Bloomberg that is extremely social left to vote for an extremely left wing president. Bloomberg puts social issues before any fiscal issue. BTW, he was given a city that was in much better shape than in decades past thanks to Rudi.

Colin Powell? He is not a republican. Never has been and never will be. I have no idea why he continues to pretend otherwise. I honestly don't know the benefit of pretending.

Charlie? We all know why Charlie defected. It is a social agenda.

Listen, a recent talk with a young business owner that pretty much agrees with republican's view on all economic issues, won't vote republican because she wants to be sure she can have an abortion. So for her it is one issue.

The truth probably is that it is already too late to turn the US around. The bad policies are already baked in to the cake and probably nothing can be done about it. Nobody can be fooled to believe that our huge 16 trillion debt will ever be tackled. It is highly doubtful we will ever see surplus days ahead. So expect a lot more deficits, a lower standard of living and mounting poverty. Sad.

Some of us boomers want to fix what our generation did wrong. Unfortunately many refuse to face reality and are covering up the really bad news below the surface. All the economic news today is being spun as better than expected. The issue is we keep lowering the bar.

Wow, this is big.

And Mayor Bloomberg is right, too, not just about carbon emissions and the environment, but another article that was just released quoted the Mayor praising President Obama for the success of his Race to the Top program for education.

President Obama has always pushed the need to boost education in America, and he has done it, too. He doubled the amount of Pell Grants for 4-year college students and also a tax deduction for parents with kids in college. Both these things were sorely needed by millions of college students after the economy got flushed down the toilet four years ago.

As a parent of two sons in college, I have been asking and waiting to find out what Mitt Romney proposes to do about education, and so far he has changed his position four times -- first, he was cutting out Pell Grants; second time, he was not cutting education; third time, he was cutting tax deduction; last time during the final debate he said something vague about vouchers for different tax deductions people could choose. Huh?

Thanks, Mr. President, for all you've done these past four years, and here's to another four more years!

As far as the storm devastation, yeah, it's time to open up the checkbok for the American Red Cross... they got clobbered !

As far as the supposed "causality", sure blame it on global warming, which apparently changes back and forth from "climate change" whenever convenient. Too bad there were about half a dozen storms to ravage the Northeast back in the period of 1954 to 1960, some with MUCH higher wind velocities than "Sandy". It's an "inconvenient truth", but nasty weather has ALWAYS been around and always will be.

But Bloomie will probably step in and declare it a man-made storm within a few weeks !

theboys,

What about former GOP Gov. Charlie Crist of Florida? You say that Bloomberg has always been leftist and Colin Powell never been a Republican, and that's why they are supporting President Obama.

What about former GOP Gov. Charlie Crist of Florida? Why did he jump the GOP ship and speak at the Democratic National Convention in favor of the President?

Two reasons he cited:

1. He saw what the President did for Florida when the housing market collapsed in 2008. And he saw what the President did in Florida during the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Crist said just this week that the President "didn’t care about parties, he only cared about people. The president was here day after day after day, just like he’s fighting for people in the Northeast now.”

2. Gov. Crist said that he had not left the Republican Party, but the Republican Party had left him.

Can't argue with that.

I want a President that cares about ALL of us, not just the people that vote for him, or the people in the top 1% that are loaded with private wealth.

Mitt Romney calls 47% of Americans freeloaders that don't want to better themselves. President Obama calls them the Americans that need a hand-up once in while -- not a hand-out -- but are looking forward to a better tomorrow.

The Benghazi attack was a horrible tragedy and everyone agrees with that. The people in charge of that really dropped the ball and no one disputes that but to say that Obama's foreign policy is crap because of that one thing is absolutely ludicrous. His foreign policy has been kick ass! I would also love to point out how you idiot right winger, nut jobs love to say that the seal time that got OBL were the ones who should get all of the credit rather than the potus. What a bunch if hypocrites. Stfu already...

Kannin

According to Reuters 9-12-12 report:

Captain Fathi al-Obeidi, commander of a special operations force for the February 17 Brigade, told Reuters that he took a call about 1:30 a.m. from Tripoli telling him that a helicopter was on its way from the capital's Mitiga airport with a rescue squad of eight U.S. troops - he described them as marines.

After he met them at Benghazi airport with a convoy of 10 vehicles, mostly pickup trucks, one mounted with an anti-aircraft cannon, the U.S. force directed Obeidi and his men to the GPS coordinates of a farmhouse to find the survivors there.

I just checked out Fox News online to see how they were spinning this latest news about Bloomberg endorsing our President. Guess what ... couldn't find anything on it anywhere. Finally, dug around and looked some more and found one tiny link at the bottom of a random page. It was barely a mention, and they didn't even quote Mayor Bloomberg or the President.

"Fair and Balanced News" indeed.

JEFF..........REPUBLICANS DID DESCRIBE THEMSELVES TO BE LIKE THE TERRORISTS TALIBAN, LIKE INSURGENTS.....YOU ARE CORRECT SIR! THE TALIBAN AND INSURGENTS ARE REPUBLICAN HEROES. PAUL RYAN AND REPUBS PLEDGING TO BE LIKE TALIBAN AGAINST AMERICA!

WHY DON'T RT WINGERS AND REPUBS BRAG ABOUT HOW THEY DELIBERATELY PREVENTED THE ECONOMY GETTING BETTER FASTER?

REPUBS CAUSE THE ECONOMY TO GROW SLOW, THEN WHINE THAT IT IS NOT GROWING!

RYAN SABOTAGES THE ECONOMY. REPUBS BLOCK BRINGING OFFSHORE JOBS BACK TO AMERICA.

REPUBS DO THEIR BEST TO MAKE AMERICA WORSE!

From dailykos.com 9/6/12 by keepemhonest Story : MAtt APPUZZO FACT CHECK THIS.2009 PAUL RYAN PLOTTED TO SABOTAGE THE ECONOMY.

So, allow me to educate Matt Apuzzo with real facts that really led to the Republican's plotted obstruction to guarantee legislative cluster-f@ck.

FACT 1. In Robert Draper's book, "Do Not Ask What Good We Do: Inside the U.S. House of Representatives" Draper wrote that on inauguration night, 2009, during a four hour, "invitation only" meeting with GOP Hate-Propaganda Minister, Frank Luntz, the below listed Senior GOP Law Writers literally plotted to sabotage, undermine and destroy America's Economy.

FACT 2: Draper wrote the guest list included:

The Guest List:
Frank Luntz - GOP Minister of Propaganda
Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI)
Rep. Eric Cantor (R-VA)
Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA),
Rep. Pete Sessions (R-TX),
Rep. Jeb Hensarling (R-TX),
Rep. Pete Hoekstra (R-MI)
Rep. Dan Lungren (R-CA),
Sen. Jim DeMint (SC-R),
Sen. Jon Kyl (AZ-R),
Sen. Tom Coburn (OK-R),
Sen. John Ensign (NV-R) and
Sen. Bob Corker (TN-R).
Non-lawmakers present Newt Gingrich

FACT 3: Newt Gingrich confirms meeting took place in an interview with Al Sharpton's Politics Nation on June 12, 2012

SHARPTON: In fact, let`s go to a book that Mr. Draper wrote about the night of the inauguration. There was a meeting at a hotel near the inaugural ball, about a mile away ... He writes about that night the plan was to show united and unyielding
opposition to the president`s economic policies ... And Draper writes that you told the group -- you, Newt Gingrich, "You will remember this day...you will remember this day the seeds of 2012 were sown."
If there was a commitment from day one, before he ever took a seat
behind the desk of the Oval Office, that everyone was going to obstruct
him, then what he`s done has been almost unbelievable, against those kind
of odds, Speaker Gingrich.
NEWT: it was an important meeting and I was glad and honored
to be part of it.
SHARPTON: I`m glad you admit you had it.

FACT 4: Two months after Paul Ryan's covert meeting where they plotted to sabotage the US Economy, in March 2009, Rep. Pete Sessions said Republicans should follow the model of the Taliban in its battles against President Obama.
In the March 2009 interview with National Journal Rep Sessions said:

"Taliban Insurgency, we understand perhaps a little bit more because of the Taliban. Insurgency is the way they went about systematically understanding how to disrupt and change a person's entire processes. And these Taliban -- is an example of how you go about to change a person from their messaging to their operations to their frontline message. And we need to understand that Insurgency may be required when [dealing with] the other side"
~Rep Pete Sessions, March 2009 to National Journal

Rep Pete Sessions went on to say:

"If they [democrats] do not give us those options or opportunities then we will then become Insurgency ... I think Insurgency is a mindset and an attitude that we're going to have to search for and find ways to get our message out and to be prepared to see things for what they are, rather than trying to do something about them"

FACT 5: Also, at the January 20, 2009 meeting they plotted to suddenly stop supporting any Stimulus Legislation, even though, they all supported Bush/Cheney Stimulus legislation.

At the meeting, Rep Kevin McCarthy said,
"We've gotta challenge them on every single bill."
"Show united and unyielding"

Bloomberg is a milk-toast politician. He craves to make himself look intelligent and elite .... that's why he comes up with the stupid $hit like "soda legislation" to make himself "appear" smart. But then again, smoking pot in NYC is probably okay with him ! He realized he better be nice to "Bam-Bam" if he wanted to get the govt dollars.

And the real truth of the matter, outside of New York and the surrounding areas ... no one really carries much about who he endorses. Bloomie's endorsement goes right next to Alec Baldwin's.

"Our climate is changing. And while the increase in extreme weather we have experienced in New York City and around the world may or may not be the result of it, the risk that it might be – given this week's devastation – should compel all elected leaders to take immediate action."

"The three-term mayor and billionaire further lauded Obama for taking "major steps to reduce our carbon consumption." In turn, Bloomberg said that on the issue of climate change, Romney had "reversed course, abandoning the very cap-and-trade program he once supported.""

It is sad that something so tragic had to happen to open people's eyes to climate change, but it's not too late!

I just read last week that we only have 8 years left to do something about carbon emissions until the damage becomes irreversable.

Huh?

You forgot about his advice to pay for college by borrowing money from your parents. Hey, it worked for him!

I have never liked Bloomers! When he used his political clout to get another term as mayor of New York he showed his true colors. He is a Socialist at heart and always has been!

I see where we spent 1 trillion dollars on Welfare last year. We could have sent every fourth household in this country a check for 60 thousand dollars with that money!

If you figure in the number of illegals drawing welfare because they happened to whelp their offspring inside this country, and removed them, We could send an 120 thousand dollar check to one fourth of the households!

Do we need to wonder anymore why this nation is going to hell? If you add in the people who are working under the table and paying no taxes while still drawing Welfare payments like food stamps and heap payments, you get an even clearer picture of whats going on!

Socialism must first corrupt the populace before it can seduce it. It now appears that they are well on their way! If Obama is allowed four more years there will be no turning back! Our country will be to ruined to put back together!

I like freedom of choice! I like having the ability to make my own decisions! I like people who stand on their own two feet and look for no one to carry them! I like our Constitution and all it stands for! I am one of those who Obama says cling to their bible and their Guns!

Obama is right and if needed I pray my aim is accurate!

I will vote for Romney/Ryan.

I feel the exact same way.

I have voted for many, MANY, Republicans in the past . . . Back before the party veered right into religious extremism. I have not changed, my views are the same, but the party changed . . . DRASTICALLY.

Everything you need to know about the current Republican party can be seen in their reaction to Christie. I actually respect him for putting politics to the side, in a time of tragedy. But look how Republicans respond to his actions. Just look at how the Republicans on this board respond. Sad.

I respect any Republican who is smart enough to jump ship and maintain the true Republican principles, not this new perversion that is called the GOP. Hopefully they will start a new, 3rd party, apart from the extremists that have taken over.

Maybe Hurricane Sandy hit Bloomberg so hard, it knocked some sense into him.

Bloomberg endorsed President Obama, because he KNOWS President Obama is on the right track, and he knows Romney is on the WRONG track, and that's what everybody else has been telling knucklehead, hardheaded Republicans who don't know how to heed a "warning".

Steve,

Romney will preserve the welfare and food stamp safety net, he has stated this. In fact, no Republican President has EVER abolished welfare.

Your complaint about welfare is pointless, it will never go away, regardless of who is elected. You are falling for typical partisan stereotypes, which is evidence that you lack the intelligence to understand the real issues.

I like freedom of choice! I like having the ability to make my own decisions!

The current Republican party takes away choice and decisions from certain people. The only difference is that YOU support taking away choice from those people, because you do not like them.

The least you could do is have the courage to man-up and admit that you want your own freedom of choice, but you want to restrict that same freedom to people you do not like.

This is so sad, but such an importent expose of how damaged the rightwing are. If asked, this poster couldn't come up with a single real lie (he would cut and paste, I suppose, but what constitutes as "lies" are unmet goals - hardly what intelligent people would call a "lie"). And the definition of "FAILED" must be raising the DJIA from 6600 to 13,200; changing a GDP of -7% to +2%; reducing the deficit from $1.45 trillion to $1.09 trillion; changing unemployment from 10.2% to 7.8%; killing bin Laden; etc, etc.

But after this poster exposes his own lack of intelligence, he expresses his confidence that anyone actually is smart and aware of facts is somehow "dumb."

We really need to wake up in this country. It is a shame that America could come this close to electing a morality-challenged, two-faced Mitt Romney the leader of the free world. The only reason that Mitt is as close as he is, is the fact that a large part of our population believes crazy stuff - like young earth, no such thing as greenhouse gases, evolution is a lie, the recession is getting worse, cutting taxes and increasing spending will eliminate the deficit, etc., etc.

Our prosperity and security are being challenged by letting ignorance run rampant. The right wing should not be tolerated for their weak-brained positions, they should be shamed by the community at large. We have to quit being so kind to conservatives. Their opinions are not "equal," they are malformed and malignant. They are harming America.

It took Obama 7 days to visit Joplin, Missouri after a tornado wiped out half of the town killing 120 people.

I took Obama 14 days to visit the Gulf coast after the BP oil spill.

Obama declined to visit Tennessee after the historic 2010 "100" year flood.

Obama ignored the Texas wildfires when over 400 homes were lost.

And of course Obama ignored the calls for help from Benghazi......

But it took Obama only one day to visit the hurricane damage on the east coast.

Actually George Bush Sr signed the paperwork to close the military bases during Clinton's years in office and he also passed legislation for the Internet. This helped Bill balance his budget but he still needed to take our SS to do it. Now the Internet thing most likely would have been passed by Clinton but the benefits from the job creation wouldn't have happened as soon as it did and he probably wouldn't have been re-elected. Without his second term we wouldn't have had bank deregulation which is what messed up Bush Jr's last year in office.

Thank you, but I no longer consider myself a Republican. I do not wish to be associated with this new batch of supposed "Republicans" in any way. I am absolutely disgusted with their behavior, to the point where it will take a dramatic shift in the party to bring me back. I now consider myself an independent.

I am actually ashamed to have once been a member of a party that is now obsessed with rape, and removing the freedom of women to make their own decisions in those situations . . . a party that has struck down bills that allow veterans to qualify for comparable work in the private sector . . . a party that "boo'ed" a soldier, fighting for our freedom, on national TV, just because he was gay (that level of disrespect is unprecedented) . . . and now a party that plays political games in a time of American tragedy.

Because of that, and much MUCH more, I will be voting for a Democrat this election . . . something I have only done one other time in my entire life. And I have a feeling it won't be the last time.

(The Borowitz Report)—A new Mitt Romney is emerging in the closing days of the campaign, aides say: a man who is increasingly “being eaten alive with jealousy” by President Obama’s budding relationship with New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.

While Mr. Romney has told reporters that he is “totally fine” with Gov. Christie flying around in a helicopter with President Obama, privately he has told aides, “Seeing him with Chris Christie is tearing me apart.”

The trouble began earlier this week, a Romney aide said, when Mr. Romney saw Mr. Christie on CNN mention that President Obama “had given him his number at the White House.”

“Mitt was like, ‘Fine, whatever, do we have to watch this?’ and then basically ran out of the room,” the aide said. “It was completely awkward.”

Making matters worse, the aide said, “Chris Christie isn’t returning his calls.”

“Mitt was trying to explain his position on FEMA to reporters yesterday and he got all excited because his phone started vibrating,” the aide said. “It turned out it was just Ann.”

Mr. Romney, who has been seen doodling Chris Christie’s name in the margins of his briefing books in recent days, has apparently decided on a new course of action: to make the New Jersey governor jealous.

“He’s been calling [New York Governor Andrew] Cuomo,” the aide said. “But Cuomo won’t call him back either. It’s all so sad.”

So let us recap the Successes of our Idiot in Chiefs Agenda on trying to do good for the Climate, shall we!

Solyndra - Bankrupt

Ener1 - Bankrupt

Beacon Power - Bankrupt

Abound Solar - Bankrupt

Amonix Solar - Bankrupt

Spectra Watt - Bankrupt

Eastern Energy - Bankrupt

All contributors to the Obama campaign.....

Yep, that effort is working out real well.

Kudos for using the word "well" correctly, but...your source is hidden (I word searched and found this list at numeorus rightwinger sites including Sarah Palin's facebook page). This kind of thing is how the rightwing brain works. An impressive looking list is created, and circulated, and rightwingers think "aha! a smart thing in our favor," and then they repeat it like pathetic parrots.

But it is meaningless. First off, if they are bankrupt, how could they be contributors to Obama's campaign? Second, presuming this refers to stimulus moneys, the stimulus had something like a 95% success rate, but even 95% success means 5% failures. Any venture will have successes and failures; a handful of failures does not mean anything other than you are not 100% perfect.

Yes, Obama places a priority on alternate energy. He is very proud of that. Some alternate energy companies go under. Fact of life. This list means nothing unless you put it into context. Much of the stimulus money went to better companies that were successful and are putting out GHG-free power. If you drive along Highway 160 in California towards Sacramento, you see vast acres of spinning windmills. Or if you drive by Palm Springs, or a host of other places. During the eight Bush/Schwartzenegger years, wind power rose from 1600 MWs to 2500 MWs (source: wikipedia, wind power in california). By comparison, a nuke site like Diablo Canyon is 2200 MWs. In the first 3 Obama/Brown years, windpower has gone from 2500 to 4000 MWs.

Taht gain in pollution-free wind energy amounts to 5 times the rate of growth under the GOP (1500MWs/3 yrs versus 900 MWs/8 years). That has positive results on the price of fossil fuels and reduction in climate impacts. That is a really good thing, and a reason to vote for Obama. Romney and the GOP favor policies that increase pollution and fossil fule costs, because they get donations from oil companies and executives like the Koch brothers, WHOSE AIM IS TO GET AS MUCH MONEY FROM YOU AS POSSIBLE!!!!! Obama wants to improve the environment for our national benefit, even though wealthy oil people get less wealthy that way.

Which do you want? Cheaper, cleaner energy, or richer oil men? That's the real meaning of your list.

To a liberal like you, I am quite sure "keeping big bird" is more important to you than our country being $16 trillion in debt with NO BUDGETS, NO PLAN and NO CLUE .... during Obama's entire term of office ! LOL !! You do realize, don't you, that an annual budget is REQUIRED by law.

Again - conservative logic is hopelessly flawed. (a) Big Bird, and all of NPR, is a cost of $450m, which is about 6 hours of running the pentagon. Making tiny cuts like that have only a political purpose - to fool conservatives into thinking that GOP is a cost cutter, which it has never been. (b) the HOUSE, run by Republicans, is what is supposed to pass a budget. Blaming Obama for spending is demonstrating ignorance of the constitution.

Incidentally - remember when the congress of 2010 promised to cut $100b in spending? Spending is up $300b over 2010, and there is no more stimulus. I guess the GOP suckered their base again.

Finally, A centrist republican who is sick of the extreme turn to the right of the republican't party! There are a few intelligent republicans left who see what Romney would do to America. He can't solve problems when he has to stand by his 800+ vetoes while governor of Mass. If he would be so good why is he trailing by 28% in his home state? Lies do catch up with you Mitt!

Abe Lincoln was known for using the veto power. It's what a good representative does. It's what Clinton should have done to the bank deregulation bill. Time Magazine had Clinton ahead of Bush Jr for the 13 biggest d'oaffs that lead to economic collapse. And I would imagine any Republican would lose in the Democtratic Kennedy state. But, I guess they were tired of that party too and so they voted for Romney.

Sorry to bring up FOX news again, but while skating around on their newsite looking for something about Bloomberg's endorsement, I ran across some female interviewers talking to a press secretary of President Obama's, and then listened to a couple of other things she had to say.

I don't know her name, but I think it should be Tokyo Rose.

The propaganda that tumbled from her mouth was reminiscent of those female radio announcers in WWII that try to discourage Americans (in this case, anyone who isn't voting for Romney) and create the most biased and slanted information as possible.

It would be funny, if it weren't so scary.

    @ UAWPleeeeeeeease post 1.1

We need a better leader? Are you kidding me? Romney, a man that ran off to France during the Vietnam War is a better leader than President Obama? A man that started his campaign with a lie and is finishing it with a lie is a leader? This man and his entire family are nothing but cowards. This goes all the way back to Willard's Grandfather, he ran from prosecution for being a Polygamist. Willard's Grandfather was the first Romney to enter the United States and that made him the first Naturlized Citizen. He wasn't born here and he should have had his citizenship taken away from him when he left. That's right he took the family to Mexico and swore never to return. It was Willard's Father that snuck back into the United States and it was Willard's father that convinced everyone even though he was born in Mexico he was born of American parents. That was a lie and that lie to this day can't be proved because the words I denounce my citizenship to the United States was never recorded. You tell me would you leave this country if you were being investigated for a crime and still want to remain a citizen or would you tell your family and friends the hell with America I'm never coming back? As far as I am concerned there is the coward in Romney's blood and there is the habit of lying. I ask you this about his faith, does the church Condon his lying and deceit? Is this how the Mormon Faith programs its parish to behave? About Romney's leadership skills, do you know no where in American history any of Romney's family has ever served in the Military. They refuse to spill their blood for their country or ours. I'll be happy when this election is over and Romney can take his family back to Mexico where they can practice their polygamy as they see fit. Ann Romney is not a woman I would want my wife to model her self after. Ann has no morals when it comes to telling the truth and thinks releasing more tax returns would just give people more dirt on her husband. Her kids are cowards for not serving this nation. Even Prince Harry and William are man enough to serve their country.

I am glad the little Napoleonic bastard endorsed Odumbo along with the turncoat week-knee Powell. They say misery loves company and they are two of the sorriest jackasses to support the socialist racist. One thinks he is the emperor of New York City who acts like an f-ing tyrant; and the other is just freaking loss and disillusioned because no one listens to his appeasement rhetoric. Odumbo deserves them both. I always knew the little man cockroach Bloomberg was a facist the way he tried to order the citizens of New York around. So tell me you little terd, did daddy forget to by you a toy model of New York City to rule when you were just a little bastard? And Powell, you showed your true colors when you said something to the tune of "why should it matter if he was a Muslim." I don't know let me guess, could it be that four groups of Jews flew jets into the Twin Towers? Nah. Could it be that they caught a Buddhist underwear bomber? Nah. Could it be they caught a Hindu shoe bomber? Could it be that all the $hit that Americans have to go through during security screening at the airports was caused by pissed off Sikhs? Nah, let me guess why we all have to go through this bull$hit every time we go to an airport! I got it, it must be a bunch of pissed of Boy scouts, yeah, they must be the terrorist.

If you believe in "green house gas theory" then you must realize that H2O and not CO2 is the dominant green house gas in the atmosphere. Actually the gas that accounts for the largest amount of heat transport in the atmosphere is Nitrogen and not any of the trace gases. The operation of a green house does not depend on green house gases so the idea of green house gases is a misnomer.

Showing down the economy will help decrease CO2 output. The unemployed have a smaller CO2 foot print than the employed. Growth in the economy will necessitate greater energy use and hence a greater CO2 ourput from fossil fuels.

In 4 years Obama has failed to decrease levels of CO2 in the atmosphere. One approach to actually decreasing CO2 levels would be to ban the use of fossil fuel on a world wide basis and convert our cities and much of our farm land into forests that will help absorb CO2. Doing so would necessitate a radical decrease in human population. Is this what Mayor Bloomberg really wants?

Benghazi is being investigated by the FBI. There has never been a coverup there.

Romney falsely accused Obama Administration of apologizing to attackers, even though the timeline of events in Cairo clearly showed that an embassy staffer expressed outrage at film (hardly an apology) before the Cairo and Benghazi attacks ever happened. Romney made a hasty decision and was wrong.

But, that doesn't stop you crazy conspiracy theorists from continuing to carry the Benghazi banner as you choose to exploit the unfortunate deaths of those four Americans.

You used to complain about how all those Egyptians hated us. Now that the anger of those Cairo demonstrators has subsided, I hear nothing more about Egypt situation. Romney/Ryan said Muslim protests against film showed failure of Obama foreign policy. Now that passions have cooled there, what has happened to that Romney/Ryan argument? They were wrong about that too.

When the FBI finishes its investigation of Benghazi, I am sure you conspiracy theorists will just find something else to move on to. You all are seldom right about anything.

The more conservative a person is the more paranoid and delusional they are about the imagined dangers they see around them at every turn. They are obsessed with control and want any breaches of law and order dealt with in a harsh, vindictive manner. They dislike strangeness and distrust strangers and have a propensity for racism. They live in a caveat emptor world because they assume everyone they do business with is out to cheat them, because they know they would.

The majority of people are not like that and because extreme conservatives are a paranoid minority, they feel they are forced to lie and cheat to win elections.

It figures that Bloomberg, the soda taxing jerk is for a Democrat. He will need an important czar job when New York is fed up with his self appointed food policing job.His endorsement ought to cause people to run to the polls and cast their vote for Romney/Ryan.

This ought to peeve Joe Scarborough who was tittering yesterday on Morning Joe over Bloomberg not welcoming Obama for a tour of NYC. Joe went on and on "do you know of any time when the president has not been welcomed into a disaster area?" He revelled in this apparent "diss" of Obama.

No wonder he didn't show up at work today.

It's not just the election Amy. False equivalency is running rampant in the media. The media can interview 1000 climate scientists and find 1 who disagrees with the other 999. The media will treat the 1 scientist's opinion with the same weight as the 999. I've never seen anything like it in my life.

Actually the term "Climate Change" is also used in the scientific community because it encompasses anthropogenic CO2, ocean level change, ocean acidification, global warming and a host of other variables that are most definitely changing.

Of course the climate has been changing for billions of years and will continue to change for billions of years to come, whether man is on the earth or not. For at least the past million year the earth has been going through ice age cycles. I wish man in some way could for stall the next one but I doubt it.

I realize that it's a little more work than listening to a bunch of wing nuts on tv, but it's well worth it and will make you a valuable asset in the voting event next week.

In ten years, he will be the answer to the following trivia question that a majority of Americans will get wrong:

Who ran and lost to President Barack Obama in 2012?

I just wish he would have done the same for our americans that were under attack as he probaly watched in the situation room in real time like he did during the OBL raid. Have to ask the question on how the info was known the next day after OBL was killed but Obama mistakenly blamed this attacks on a you tube video. Gees how could this be?

Our americans thousands of miles away depend on our Commander in Chief to help them when under attack. We have red cross salvation army and millions of churches. Im sorry but as a vetern I couldnt in good concience vote for a commander in chief who refused to help and then lied about.

Following the attack on the US Diplomatic Mission in Benghazi, administration spokespersons, including White House spokesman Jay Carney, maintained for two weeks that the attacks likely were a spontaneous protest against an anti-Muslim film. They offered no evidence to support that contention. Not the slightest shred of evidence ever indicated a spontaneous protest The attack started in late evening and went on to 4 in the morning. Not a single report or photograph indicated protestors with the usual crude signs. Just well armed terrorists with heavy weapons.

And yet Obama and his Administration continued to insist it was a spontaneous protest against an anti-Muslim film. They fabricated that story out of thin air just to cover up the fact that Obama had made a catastrophic error so serious that it borders on treason.

Not true. President Obama called it an act of terrorism in the aftermath.

Why do Republicans feel they have to make stuff up to convince people to vote for Romney? Maybe because you have a terrible track record left from the Bush administration?

Seriously....please stop watching FOX NEWS....it's embarrassing....Obama has and continues to handle the threat of terrorism with strong conviction and while the loss of Ambassador Stevens and three other American heroes is a tragic loss, there is nothing that would have prevented it...the fact is terrorism is just that....and FOX NEWS needs to just stop all the conspiracy theories....President Obama is not trying to cover up a terrorist attack on 911 anniversary just so he can "protect" his record of fighting terrorists....his record is pretty clear....anyone with any common sense knows this was a terrorist attack which the President said.. "act of terror" sorry but that's what he called it on 09/12 and 09/13....like he had to spell it out...IT HAPPENED ON 911...what do you think it was....Could we have built a giant stone barracade and have tanks and militia on the ground in Benghazi and prevented their deaths...sure...but that's not what we do as diplomats....and that was not what Ambassador Stevens was about...you demean his memory with this nonsense...President Obama saw our fallen heroes carried home...he accepted responsiblity and honestly I would be more disappointed if President Obama went on nation wide TV within hours of the attack and started criticizing embassy staff for disclaiming responsibility for a vulgar anti-islamic film....telling them they should not be "apologizing" for US....this while we are still trying to account for our citizens...oh wait that was ROMNEY.. what an idiot! Look when you are in the middle of a murder investigation you don't spill all your evidence out on national TV...you provide what you know as best you can and you proceed with your investigation...only investigation you seem interested in is the one wasting tax payer money and quite frankly Americans' time...stop with the political posturing on this issue...it just makes you look small.

This issue is important and when the investigation is done by the professionals not you then we can have a conversation about it, but let's talk in the present. So why are heads of car plants making commericals calling Mittens a liar? Could it be the ads he is running about their plants that are complete lies, but he knows that the idiots in his party who just watch faux will believe it because it is on television. That lie doesn't bother you huh well no worries let me tell you a truth Obama/Biden will still worry about you as a citizen when they win, unlike 47% Mittens.

Sal, Fox and the Canadian Free Press have had good coverage and articles about Benghazigate. You sure won't see anything about it on MSNBC (media sewer nothing but crap) site.

Tired1947--You're right. Mostly because there hasn't been an "MSNBC" since July. Time to make up a new (and better) slogan.

Don't call them Neo-Conservatives. There is not a CONSERVATIVE BONE in their bodies. Just reactionary ignorance and superstition. Call them what they are - NEO-COLONIALISTS. The just want these other countries to go away and become COLONIES like they USED TO BE.

Disgusting stupidity. A criminal lack of knowledge of HISTORY. Even from the imbecile NEWT GINGRICH that was a half-baked HISTORY PROFESSOR at a miserable little liberal arts college. Thank god THAT MORON is out of our hair. He put two and two together and came up with 27.6. What a TOTAL IDIOT. And HE is the CLASS ACT among the GOP.

Did I mention they are all at BEST ignorant and at worst (and most likely) VIOLENT SOCIOPATHS .

I saw an episode of Letterman and he was interviewing O'Reilly from Fox News. O'Reilly stated and kept reiterating that more young college people get their news from Fox News than any other news. And guess what? They were the ones that voted for Obama. So you are right when you say dumb (you missed gullible) folks watch Fox News.

It's nice that Independents and reasonable Republicans are coming out of the wood work saying it's time to stop lying about climate change.

Those who said climate change is fantasy are destroying American lives, American families, and American businesses.

If you want a strong America, vote against the Republicans who denied global warming. Remember, these are the very same Republicans who told us "deficits don't matter", "borrow money and take a risk", "buy a house, become part of the great ownership society".

These Republican fantasies led to the housing bubble that popped in 2006.

Yes, its a great idea to base your vote for President on who believes in the myth of global warming. And get your facts straight, it was Clinton who staffed up Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac with his buddies that led to people getting mortgages who had no business qualifying for a mortgage. There is blame on both sides.

Chris, based on your Fannie/Freddie belief, that means Republicans had full control of Washington for 6 years and ignored it.

They not only ignored it but promoted that "deficits don't matter", "take a risk", "buy a house to be part of the great ownership society".

By promoting those slogans to American and admitting Republicans thought there was a problem, it means Republicans INTENTIONALLY DESTROYED the American economy even worse.

Thank you Chris for pointing out Republicans were even worse at governing that I thought.

@Chris R S...lame. It's called DEREGULATION dumba$$! Indeed, BOTH parties have had a hand in it, but it was an idea cooking in the Friedman economic theory pot for many, many years. He introduced it to Reagan when he was the "voice of General Electric' back when Reagan couldn't find a B movie to act in! That was the time Reagan went against his own experience and that of his father, both of whom benefited from FDR social policies, kind of like Mitt's daddy who was on welfare! I do find both parties at fault...but the major philosophy of combining corporate and financial agendas with our federal government comes right out of the Republican camp! And it was THAT combination that was totally focused on PROFIT that eventually landed us into a financial crash. Of course, Friedman planned on the Corporate/Financial Government bailing themselves out...which they did....and have left millions losing their homes and their jobs. Go ahead with your Faux News spin...I continue to find it very entertaining. "Tell the people a lie long enough, they will believe it!"- you have that down cold!!!

What no one who advocates for "global warming" as the cause of recent weather anomolies has ever been able to adequately explain to me is why we think we can conclusively determine the effect of this phenomenon with 200 years of recorded weather data on a planet that is over 4 billion years old. I realize that we can make inferences and assumptions about past weather events based on physical evidence, but our actual, accurately recorded weather data is pretty slim. While there is no doubt that we are currently in a warming trend, we don't have nearly enough information to say that the warming trend is responsible for all of the unusual weather events we have been experiencing recently. Maybe it causes them, maybe it contributes to them. Maybe these events are part of a weather pattern extending over 500,000 years that we just can't see.

KJNC - Its not the data that people "believe" in or don't believe in, its the interpretation.

Despite all of their protests to the contrary, the global warmists are advocating for a radical shift of the global economy. That sort of change will displace entire cultural and ethnic groups, reshape global power structures and put millions of people trained in old technologies out of work. All for a theory for which there is no generally accepted consensus. That is why the political engine that actually runs the world will not allow the type of change discussed.

No. 97 percent of ALL CLIMATE SCIENTISTS believe that GLOBAL WARMING is REAL and caused by HUMAN ACTIVITY.

                                          97%.

And the 3% are ALL BEING PAID BY BIG CORPORATIONS.

Remember when the BIG TOBACCO COMPANIES had "SCIENTISTS" that said smoking was good for you?

                                          Debbie-525743

The housing collapse wasn't the Republicans fault. It was we the people who ran from paying our mortgages. All it took was the first lot of low incomers who signed the interest free loans, when it came time to pay the principal and interest (5 years 2001 - 2006) that's when the ball started rolling. So don't blame anyone in office as they paid their mortgage. And remember Democrats supported bank deregulation and Clinton signed it into law. You can blame him for not vetoing it.

Global Warming -- is it a rise in temperature or noxious fumes. Scientists can't decide. The earth will always have global warming and cooling, bad air and good. Sandy (and other hurricane like storms) came from Africa. What's there to send bad weather here? You'd think China would be seeing some nasty stuff or things would be coming for over there since they have the nasty air.

I think the icebergs are melting because Obama didn't do a proper cleanup job from the BP oil spill. Remember when all the oil magically disappeared. Obama hid the oil under an iceberg and now they are melting faster.

and that's just a partial list.

I'm thinking Chris's list would include...

The Flat Earth Society and the Creationists, two very credible organizations (gag).

Shows how far the right has fallen. Not a clue.

                                              Agree, Starderup . . .

What actually happened (as YOU probably know) was that President Obama asked Bloomberg if it would help if he went to NYC, knowing that wherever a president goes, the required security details sometimes make things more difficult . . .

so, in his respectful way, our president was saying, "I'll come if it will help you; I'll stay away if that will help MORE."

                                              .

                                              O & JOE!

There is no Fox right now. They've officially changed their name to the Benghazi News Network, in honor of the only thing they seem interested in talking about right now.

UNCLE BOOB... you are such a boob ! Everyone knows this hurricane was the fault of GW Bush. But the libs, the socialist and the commies in the press and the media and the gubernmunt have not gotten around to making that claim yet.

They are all busy sweetening their resumes as they will be looking for work after the election figures are in and Romney wins by a LANDSLIDE.

Just letting you know there are more important things to handle in this world than no salt on the tables in NYC, more important than the size of a soda in NYC, more important than a race in NYC and more important than a little man, a Napoleon type, posturing for the cameras.

This mayor dumberg has lied and cheated the city and himself. (quite like his hero Obama (if that is his name) has done.) Dumberg broke the rules so he could RUN the city again after the charter which the people of NYC voted on to say just two terms was enough pain and punishment for them he arranged to be mayor beyond the charters specified term

He decided to inflict more abuse on the people who live in NYC and work in NYC because he is a small man mentally, physically and politically.

Only in America can such a brazen egomaniac fool all of the people all of the time?

America must reject this constant abuse and throw Mayor dumberg out and do the same to the squatter calling himself Obama. it is the only salvation for this greatest experiment ever in the history of the world.

When the gas lines get longer, remember NY'ers it is Bush's fault. The mayor said that he wants the federal government to help pay for the cleanup...that means taxpayers from all over the country paying for it. The average American does not give a &^*&^ about NYC and its self made problems.

I don't know where you live. But since natural disasters can strike pretty much any part of this country at any given time, it doesn't really matter - I'll be more than happy to see my tax dollars spent rebuilding any part of this country that needs it. Including yours.

You do not speak for ANY "average American" other than yourself.

And your cruel, callous selfishness is YOUR "self-made problem".

JoAnne....I agree with you to a point, but the Federal Government does not do a very good job seeing that the money is well spent. Remember all the trailers they bought for temporary living quarters for Katrina victims? They ended up rotting and never being used. I would rather send my money directly to someone in need rather than taking my chances with the Federal Government.

Chris---don't equate the performance of FEMA during the Bush administration to its performance today. It now has a competent administrator with a proven track record at the state level. Under Bush the FEMA head was a political appointee who wasn't qualified to do the job and it showed.

I care about them, you do not speak for me. I will happily pay my taxes to help the storm victims in the East. I would hope they would feel the same about my area if and when we have a natural disaster. New York took a big hit with 9/11 and I was proud of them coming back as they did. I'm sure I disagree with your politics but that is not what this is about. I believe in a America that takes care of each other, argue all you want about how the money is spent wisely, nothing new there. Just do not try to speak for me with your hate.

                                              Chris Rhodes Scolar -

Thank you for bringing up Katrina - I agree completely that it's the best possible example of how the federal government can take an epic disaster and make it even worse. Do the words "Heck of a job, there, Brownie" ring any bells?

I also prefer - when it's possible - to donate my time and/or money directly to those in need rather than going through any bureaucracy, either the government or the big corporate charities. But in a disaster of this scale, that's hardly practical.

And I'd much rather see my taxes spent rebuilding New York City and New Jersey than rebuilding Iraq and Afghanistan any day of the week - wouldn't you?

In any case, maybe you and Chris Aslan should exchange addresses. That way, when either of you is hit with the next "self-made" disaster, you can bypass the government and self-make your own recovery.

Chris A - NYC is THE GREAT AMERICAN CITY. I believe every American should go there at least once.

NYC is one of America's greatest treasures, and tax $$ to help it & its citizens recover is $$ well-spent.

Chris Rhodes - it is not EITHER/OR . . . while the Fed Gov is far from perfect (made up of humans, not God, so never perfect) there are some things that ONLY the Fed Gov can do, and do better than anyone else.

You may be right about the Katrina trailers . . . but FEMA has been upgraded dramatically since Dubya de-funded it & parked it under HomeLand Security.

Donations to private charities (eg, Red Cross) serve an important function in disaster relief, but they cannot repair roads, helicopter-in supplies, repair the grid, etc.

                                              PARTNERSHIPS.

                                              :-)

                                              www.motherjones.com/kevin-drum/2012/10/fema-case-study-difference-between-democrats-and-republicans

Before you go "LOL MOTHER JONES LEFT WING BIAS!!!", the article is strictly factual.

Since a bunch of you probably won't read it I will copy/paste the meat.

George H.W. Bush: Appoints Wallace Stickney, head of New Hampshire's Department of Transportation, as head of FEMA. Stickney is a hapless choice and the agency is rapidly driven into the ditch: "Because FEMA had 10 times the proportion of political appointees of most other government agencies, the poorly chosen Bush appointees had a profound effect on the performance of the agency."

Bill Clinton: Appoints James Lee Witt, former head of the Arkansas Office of Emergency Services, as head of FEMA. The agency is reborn as a professional operation: "As amazing as it sounds, Witt was the first FEMA head who came to the position with direct experience in emergency management....On Witt's recommendation, Clinton filled most of the FEMA jobs reserved for political appointees with persons who had previous experience in natural disasters and intergovernmental relations."

George W. Bush: Appoints Joe Allbaugh, his 2000 campaign manager, as head of FEMA. Allbaugh explains that his role is to downsize FEMA and privatize its functions:"Expectations of when the federal government should be involved and the degree of involvement may have ballooned beyond what is an appropriate level. We must restore the predominant role of State and local response to most disasters." Once again, the agency goes downhill: "[Allbaugh] showed little interest in its work or in the missions pursued by the departed Witt....Those of us in the business of dealing with emergencies find ourselves with no national leadership and no mentors. We are being forced to fend for ourselves."

Allbaugh quits after only two years and George W. Bush downgrades FEMA from a cabinet-level agency and appoints Allbaugh's deputy, Michael Brown, former Commissioner of Judges and Stewards for the International Arabian Horse Association, as FEMA's head. A former employer, Stephen Jones, is gobsmacked when he hears about it:"Brown was pleasant enough, if a bit opportunistic, Jones
said, but he did not put enough time and energy into his job. 'He would have been better suited to be a small city or county lawyer,' he said."

Barack Obama:Appoints Craig Fugate, Florida's state emergency management director, as head of FEMA. Fugate immediately revives FEMA, receiving widespread praise for the agency's handling of the devastating tornadoes that ripped across seven Southern states last year: "Under Fugate's leadership, an unimaginable natural disaster literally has paved the way for a textbook lesson in FEMA crisis management....Once the laughingstock of the federal bureaucracy after the bumbling, dithering tenure of director Michael Brown, FEMA under Fugate prepares for the worst and hopes for the best rather than the other way around."

The lesson here is simple. At a deep ideological level, Republicans believe that federal bureaucracies are inherently inept, so when Republicans occupy the White House they have no interest in making the federal bureaucracy work. And it doesn't. Democrats, by contrast, take government services seriously and appoint people whose job is to make sure the federal bureaucracy does work. And it does.

                                              The lesson is simple:

The GOP is HOPELESSLY INCOMPETENT and uses that incompetence to show how bad government works to make the case for privatization so THEY can take 20% off the top.

The mayor said that he wants the federal government to help pay for the cleanup...that means taxpayers from all over the country paying for it. The average American does not give a &^*&^ about NYC and its self made problems.

Take the wax out of your ears ... the National Debt was at $10.8 trillion (too damn high) when Obama took office, and now it is over $16 trillion ! Over $.40 of every tax dollar goes solely for debt service. Obama promised to cut the deficit in half ... HE LIED !

The unemployment rate was 7.8% when he was sworn in, and it is 7.8% today after spending most of the last 4 years ABOVE 8%. The "shovel-ready" jobs simply were NOT... and Obama laughed about it ! Again, HE LIED !

The economic "growth" indicators are in danger of being passed by a rapidly moving snail. Perhaps it is simply people like YOU who are "out of their mind" !

Amy - His statement was very ambiguous referring to acts of terror but not specifically relating it to the Benghazi attack. But let's assume for the moment that you are correct and that Obama did initially call the attack on Benghazi an act of terror. OK, then a few days later they said the Libya attack was "spontaneous" and started with the attack on the U.S. Embassy in Cairo, Egypt, over an anti-Islamic film. And then a week or so after that they flipped back again and said it was a pre-planned terrorist attack.

I think all that rapid-fire flip-flopping sends the wrong message to the international community. When Obama hasn't the slightest idea of what actually happened, he should keep his mouth shut.

So if the White House had been utterly silent in the week or two following the attack, Republicans would have been OK with that? I sort of doubt that. Better to share what intelligence we get from Libya, even if it turns out that the facts continue to come in.

Clotho - The facts the President knew were ignored in the statements he made.

The Benghazi Diplomatic Mission is at geodetic coordinates: 32° 3′ 40.8″ N, 20° 4′ 51.3″ E. The CIA annex is about a mile from the mission. Google Earth imagery shows that there are hundreds of structures within a mile of the mission ranging from industrial to residential. On the night of the attack, at about midnight local, the terrorists found and attacked the annex with guns and mortars. That pretty much ruled out spontaneous demonstrators right then and there. That would have been included in the initial CIA assessments to the Situation Room.

It would strain credulity to suggest that the President chose not to follow the events in Libya that afternoon and was not completely aware of the nature of that attack.

Elections are a farce, a joke, a ploy, a deception and are rigged. And they are expensive… maybe a waste of resources and assets?

There are many firms around who collect info about the supposed voting public and translate that data into what should be said by a candidate.

The candidate says I HATE THE LEFT when in a convention. Then when he hits the trail he says I LOVE GOD.

And the multitudes in the middle who still think there is a god go aaaaaH and have an easy feeling about him and they vote based on that .

But the other team has found out that it is not God who appeals to their sort of crowd. they have discovered that pizza is the big attraction. And they know this because canvassers have collected hundreds of thousands of data points and reached a conclusion that pizza is the answer.

Soooo the candidate says pizza for everyone, forget about a chicken in every pot, a car in every garage, a house for a family of four it is pizza which lures the unsuspecting voter into the voting booth to cast a vote for the 'pizza guy'.

Politics in America is not grass roots, it is not Tea Party, it is not democats, it is not republicats, it is not even socialist.... it is driven and controlled by BIG MONEY and their understanding of whether you are on the God team or the pizza team.

And in the end, maybe we are now in the end? America becomes Yugoslavia, Yemen, Ethiopia and Bangladesh?

Just thinking out loud so to speak !

Michael-But will Dick Cheney, and Don Rumsfeld endorse Romney, that is the question?

Not sure about Rummy, but Cheney co-hosted a Romney fundraiser here in Texas,no surprise there. He's hoping with Romney to see a third Bush term.

But on a more uplifting note. A friend of mine who has always been a Republican himself. Told me that he and his parents, life long Republicans, voted for Obama. He said his parents told him they couldn't stand the Romney campaigns lying. So they had to go for Obama in this election. Even some Republicans decided to put their country first.

I think it is breaking news because Mayor Bloomberg didn't endorse anyone in 2008 and also because of the reference to climate change, which some folks don't believe in but which needs to be addressed.

The Mayor, despite being a "former" Republican now operating as a self proclaimed Independent has the intelligence of recognizing a true leader in the POTUS and NOT a pretender to the throne like Mitt (dog-on-the-car-roof) Romney.

The image of a Republican Governor Christie working happily with the Democratic President Obama is the way POLITICS is SUPPOSED to be. After TERRIBLE events like Hurricane Sandy, strict partisanship is One Foolish Idea!

                                                    Let me correct that.

The image of a Republican Govenor Christie working hapily with the Democratic President Obama to bail out the 1%ers who lost their beachfront second homes in Brigantine, is the way POLITICS has ALWAYS been.

Keep telling yourself that there's a difference between the parties, and that Obama cares about the "little people."

It doesn't take much to convince the liberal mind ... a few tiny gestures will make them wet themselves in excitement ! "Sandy" has presented Obama an opportunity to actually "LOOK" presidential right before the elections.

If you go back over most of the last 4 years, however, most everything Obama has done has been a failure. The "Stimulus" was a FAILURE. His efforts to reduce the unemployment rate have been a failure. His "green initiatives" have been a failure with over 50% of his "green loans" going to companies having now filed for bankruptcy.

He invoked "Executive Privilege" to quash the Fast and Furiuous investigation, he sidestepped existing immigration law, and he has LIED REPEATEDLY about the assault in Benghazi .... blaming the murders on an anti-mohammad film clip while new evidence comes out daily showing the State Dept totally blew it !

But the Obama leg-humpers are ready to anoint him king ! I suppose that might fit, he has acted with the total arrogance of a king for quite some time ... and shows little regard for intended "Separation of Powers".

NO NO NO! Your party would like you to believe that the stimulus was a failure, when indeed it did as it was intended to do. The only thing wrong with the stimulus, and many independent economists agree, is that it should have been larger. If you want to really read something very insightful, get the book by Michael Grunwald called "The New New Deal". It is extremely fascinating and it takes the reader through the stimulus from its thoughts to paper to legislation to pass. If you are really true to yourself you will see when reading this book exactly what most Republicans did to demonize it all the while holding their hands out for their chunk of the stimulus.

Oh, and you are completely dead ass wrong about the 50% bankruptcy thingy.

Nineteen out of 35 companies given "green loans" have filed for bankruptcy. You do the math ..... oh hell, I keep forgetting you are a liberal .... it computes to 54.29% which, the last time I checked, is over 50%.

Virtually all economists have acknowledged the "Stimulus" was a failure... even some Democrats in Congress.

Jim I am waiting for you to provide a link or something, as to where you got your information. I can't find where I read what the percentage currently is, but the percentage you are quoting seems much higher than I recall seeing so if you could provide a link I would much appreciate it. And, no, virtually all economists have not stated that the stimulus was a failure. Overall it was not. In some cases, as in some of the green companies, yes, they did fail. But, as I have stated many times, you can not move forward into the ever changing 21st century where other countries are building, experimenting, taking chances, and looking to new innovation, and not compete. We are being left behind in global technology. So, yes, maybe Obama has picked some losers, but at least I have a president who is looking towards our future in a global economy.

By the way, you don't need to be a jack ass. I could just as easily say that I keep forgetting that you are a conservative racist ass hole, but, hey, I'm trying to keep it adult here.

Well, it's clear now why Michael Bloomberg wanted President Obama to stay away from New York City. He didn't want the President to look like a political opportunist during a disaster. Had Bloomberg endorsed President Obama after a visit with the mayor, people would have been screaming foul play, possibly even insinuating that the mayor's endorsement was "bought and payed for" via federal aid to his state. By endorsing after the fact, Bloomberg shielded Obama from that criticism.

Smart guy. Never underestimate the political calculation of a good politician. EVERYTHING they do, they do for a reason.

                                                    Good endorsement.

It's even simpler than that. When Obama spoke with Bloomberg, he said that he thought they would be getting in the way, and he thought Bloomberg would be agreement, which he was. With the power outages and gridlock, it was not the time for a presidential motorcade, which blocks traffic even without a hurricane.

Cameron Ford....yes what really happened was the consulate asked for more security and was denied...then four americans were killed....and the very next day various members of Obama's administration said it was the result of a video....then almost two weeks later they said it was a terrorist attack. The evidence gained through EMAILs is that the Obama administration knew all along it was a terrorist attack. Don't really know why they are stonewalling. Maybe becasue Obama didn't need any distractions as he had fund raisers in Vegas and an appearance on The View to get ready for. Who knows.

Why would the President lie about the murders? Did he secretly Hate the Ambassador and all the other Americans in Benghazi so he wanted them killed??? Was there a love interest??? What fantasy are your delusional minds dragging up?????

There was miscommunication, investigations (which cops and everyone in this World conducts when a crime has been commited), and then actions that could have been put into place but unfortunately they were not. A crime? No. Better organization needed? Yes. But instead of jumping on the "look, he made a mistake. Lets exploit it" bandwagon, why not talk about the death of Osama Bin Laden. Or the MULTIPLE attempted bombings and highjackings that have been prevented in the last four years??

starfox7000, one of Pres. Obama's ad's promote the fact that OBL is dead and al-Qaida is decimated. Is it reasonable to consider that the President would rather not suggest that al-Qaida was, in fact, responsible for the attack. Why would his Ambassador to the UN say, to multiple networks, that it was a reaction to an obscure you tube video, why wouldn't she, the President and every other administration official who commented on this just say "we don't know yet" instead of blaming the video? During testimony by employees of the State Department stationed in Libia and the ME, it was learned that there were repeated requests for additional support that was refused, based on the fact that no additional support was needed, not some made up story about reductions in budgets. These are just a few facts that have to be considered when commenting on this.

Motive ? That's easy .... Obama wants to convince the U.S. citizens we have no fear from terror attacks so he simply refuses to acknowledge their existence. He wants to pretend that Osama Bin Laden's death means an end to terror... when all it really means is new terrorists will step up for the challenge !

When the Fort Hood massacres came about with the Muslim "psychiatrist" yelling "Ally Alla Aqkbahr !" (or some such Muslim words of "holy war" intent) before he opened fire and killed numerous soldiers .... Obama wanted to label it an act of "domestic violence" even though this terrorist had e-mail communications showing militant islamic connections.

And please ... keep the @!$%#ing alibis for someone who would actually believe your "gibberish". Here are some facts. There were attacks on consulate quarters in Libya in April and in June of this year. The consulate did NOT meet minimum specifications for security. Further, British envoys had been attacked previously and left. A new disclosure shows serious concerns about safety and security were coimmunicated in August of this year ... the month before the attack ! Then, of course, the State Dept employee was WATCHING the attack ! Of course, we now know that additional security was requested and denied !

Deny the truth all you want and certainly DELAY,DELAY, DELAY an actual investigation until AFTER the elections. We already know ... if Obama gets re-elected, he will have "more flexibility" then ! Isn't that what he told the Soviets before .... only to be caught on tape ?

President Barack Hussein Obama is responsible for Benghazi. There is responsibility that goes with being Commander in Chief and it goes way beyond just "cherry picking" events that poll well.

There is an ambassador and 3 other Americans that were killed on US soil on his watch. Regardless of how the decisions were made or who made the decisions, the responsibility for those decisions are the responsibility of the Commander in Chief.

As Commander in Chief he did not take responsibility for the disaster but rather hid behind Hillary Clinton who has a hell of a lot more honor and integrity than President Barack Hussein Obama will ever have!

If its hard for Republicans to walk and chew gum, its only because they are laughing at your irrational post. I understand that people can look at the same facts and come to different decisions, but you just aren't looking at any of the facts.

I find the comparison of President Barack Hussein Obama to a horse to be very insulting to the horse.
