Auto ads bleed into battleground Ohio

Updated 2:12 p.m. - President Barack Obama's campaign launched a pair of ads in Michigan defending the 2009 auto bailout, ostensibly in response to a pro-Romney super PAC airing ads in the Wolverine State.

The president's campaign released an upbeat spot, "What He Said," touting the bailout of GM and Chrysler, and "Cynical," an ad meant to combat the misleading spots run by Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney that stoked fears that Jeep would move some of its production to China, at the expense of U.S. jobs.

The Obama campaign has bought airtime in Ohio specifically to run these states in the Buckeye State, along with Michigan. But don't be so quick to assume that putting these ads on Detroit television is all about putting Michigan in play.

As with Detroit's newspapers, several of the Motor City's networks bleed into northwest Ohio and television packages in Toledo. That's prime battleground turf in Ohio -- and, it's the home of a major Jeep production plant, a central part of the recent squabbling on autos.

The Romney campaign said in response: "President Obama can’t run from the facts. As a result of his handling of the auto bailout, American taxpayers stand to lose $25 billion and GM and Chrysler are expanding their production overseas. Unlike President Obama, Mitt Romney has a comprehensive plan to revive manufacturing, create millions of good-paying jobs, and deliver real change and a real recovery."

Mitt has always wanted Detroit to go bankrupt...conservatives have a reputation of biting the hands that feed them - autoworker..taxpayers...the middle class..just give and give..but in return these people have got ungrateful convervatives that have tried to have socialism only for corporations.

.

It's even more disgusting -given the fact that Mitt grew up in Michigan, has been fed by Detroit

The Democrats have the right strategy...this Obama ad will clear the air that has been polluted by Mitt's ad lying about the auto-bailout. I actually suggested this strategy in my comments here on this site here when Mitt's lying ad was out a few days ago over the weekend.

Talking to a therapist friend of mine today about Chrysler and Mitt's inability to tell the truth. He definitely feels Romney has a narcissistic personality disorder as the inability to accept the truth and repeat the same lie continually (which is why it's still in the news) is a key factor.

Maybe if Romney and Ryan would accept the fact that their ads are a lie and move on, so could everybody else.

For Mitt Romney, it's one scary Halloween. The Presidential candidate has just learned that tomorrow afternoon he will charged with violating the federal Ethics in Government law by improperly concealing his multi-million dollar windfall from the auto industry bail-out.

At a press conference in Toledo, Bob King, President of the United Automobile Workers, will announce that his union and Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) have filed a formal complaint with the US Office of Government Ethics in Washington stating that Gov. Romney improperly hid a profit of $15.3 million to $115.0 million in Ann Romney's so-called "blind" trust.

Imagine that! MYTH wants to be President and the most powerful man on the planet; yet he is up for ethics violations due to Queen Ann's "blind"blonde trust. How much does it take for these minions to Wake UP? Maybe they don't drink coffee when they consume their news in the AM.

Mitt Romney's problem stems from his training as a draft dodger er, Mormon missionary. The Mormon church trains its missionaries to evade or even lie about some of the more controversial aspects of the cult. Whether its the belief that their god was once human, that he currently resides at or near a place called Kolob (not sure if its a planet or star), that they too can become gods and even the requirement on the underwear, all are somewhat controversial and would require a missionary to not answer straight forward.

Further training in obfuscation, half-truths, and lies undoubtedly took place as a bishop in his church. No doubt that he was probably involved in the training of other missionaries.

Much like Scientology, the Mormon church keeps most of the tenants of the faith secret from outsiders. Its not that people don't know about them, they just don't talk about them. It is based on the delusions of one man, Joseph Smith. As a religion based on one man, it is, by definition, a cult. Scientology was Hubbard's drunken dream to found a religion in order to get rich and pay no taxes. (Boy, does that ever sound like Mitt Romney or what ?)

TAKE IT TO THE BANK…ROMNEY WINS OHIO!!!

Ohio IS a Republican state PERIOD!

41 of the last 49 years Ohio has had a Republican Governor.

The Ohio House and Senate are overwhelmingly Republican.

Every ELECTED Ohio Supreme Court Judge is Republican, 1 D. Justice Brown was APPOINTED

In the 88 Counties of Ohio, has about 750 elected officials and 600 are Republican.

Since 1960 Ohio has voted correctly in every presidential election.

In 1992 Ohio voted for Bill Clinton running against a failing Bush, Ohio chose the more viable candidate.

In 1996 Ohio voted for Bill Clinton running against Bob Dole, Ohio chose the more viable candidate.

In 2008 Ohio voted for Barack Obama because John McCain would not work with local Republicans, Ohio voted for the more viable candidate.

When you give Ohio NO alternative, Ohio will vote Democrat.

Absentee votes: Comparing 5 days before the election in 2008 and 5 days before election in 2012. Democrat absentee votes are 230,000 short of 2008 and Republican absentee votes are plus 30,000.

Independent votes: All polls conducted for Independent voters show no less than a 10% advantage to Romney.

Mitt doesn't care about the 47% that included those auto-workers who would have lost jobs if the Obama Administration did not bail out Detroit.

But Mitt only cares about the 1% - humility for the cause of 1% is really arrogance, obscene arrogance.

We had a republican focus group meeting two days ago for independents that have a tendency to vote republican. Six out of eight white men (ages 28 to 64) plan on voting for Obama. The big reason - you can't tell what Gov. Romney actually believes. The next reason - if he's got such a great plan, why does he need to make so much up! One if the big pushes for Obama was Colin Powell's endorsement. He should have been much, much more honest with the American people.

The following from another extreme right wing org. several years ago describes the current Republican/Romney/Tea Party tactics:

Nazi propaganda chief Joseph Goebbels was the master of the “big
lie” tactic in which a lie, no matter how outrageous, is repeated often enough
that it will eventually be accepted as truth. Goebbels explained:

“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The
lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people
from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus
becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress
dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension,
the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.”

I think that in future years when political communication scholars study the 2012 campaign, there's a very good chance that the release of the auto bailout ads in Ohio will be considered to be the point where the Romney campaign finally sank itself. His ads are not playing well in Ohio at all and in the past few days, polls that were previously trending a bit Romney in the state have drifted back in the direction of the president.

Of course, there are other factors to consider here, such as the president's performance in the wake of the hurricane, which has defied previous partisan lines in terms of approval (almost 80%) and the third debate, which took several days to filter through. But there's no doubt that this week to date has not been a good one for Romney in Ohio.

Time will tell what eventually gets the credit for that - whether people will always believe the president's lead in Ohio was too strong to overcome or whether these last few days actually represented a tipping point for him.

Michael, there is plenty of good for Romney in Ohio. You stated yesterday Obama was way ahead in early voting in Ohio. Well, todayOhio Sec. of State Husted released the totals of numbers of early ballots returned in Ohio. Seems that Republican early ballots are up by 75,000 ballots while Democratic ballots are down almost 250,000 ballots over the 2008 numbers. Those numbers are certified by the Sec. of State's office and no local election boards are disputing his numbers. The main Democratic stronghold of Cuyahogs County (Cleveland) has early voting number as of yesterday down over 60% from 2008. The polls you cite show the Democratic turnout needs to be between 8%-10% larger than republican to be accurate. Obama won by 5.6% in Ohio in 2008. So with these early numbers, you are still trying to tell us Obama's turnout margin will be double what it was in 2008. Keep dreaming. Three polls out today polling equal numbers of Democrats and Republicans in Ohio show Romney with between a 2% and 5% lead.

Fiat Says Jeep Output May Return to China as Demand Rises

By Craig Trudell - Oct 22, 2012 11:10 AM ET

Fiat SpA (F), majority owner of Chrysler Group LLC, plans to return Jeep output to China and may eventually make all of its models in that country, according to the head of both automakers’ operations in the region.

Fiat is in “very detailed conversations” with its Chinese partner, Guangzhou Automobile Group Co. (2238), about making Jeeps in the world’s largest auto market, said Mike Manley, chief operating officer of Fiat and Chrysler in Asia. Chrysler hasn’t built Jeeps there since before Fiat took control in 2009.

“The volume opportunity for us is very significant,” Manley, who is also president of the Jeep brand, said in an interview at Chrysler’s Auburn Hills, Michigan, headquarters. “We’re reviewing the opportunities within existing capacity” as well as “should we be localizing the entire Jeep portfolio or some of the Jeep portfolio.”

Romney's ad is right on the money and 100%true.

President Obama is proud of his bailout of General Motors. That’s good, because, if he wins a second term, he is probably going to have to bail GM out again. The company is once again losing market share, and it seems unable to develop products that are truly competitive in the U.S. market.

Right now, the federal government owns 500,000,000 shares of GM, or about 26% of the company. It would need to get about $53.00/share for these to break even on the bailout, but the stock closed at only $20.21/share on Tuesday. This left the government holding $10.1 billion worth of stock, and sitting on an unrealized loss of $16.4 billion.

Right now, the government’s GM stock is worth about 39% less than it was on November 17, 2010, when the company went public at $33.00/share. However, during the intervening time, the Dow Jones Industrial Average has risen by almost 20%, so GM shares have lost 49% of their value relative to the Dow.

      Another failure from Obama.

Here is a clue for you Democrats. With all that bailout money, Obama took both GM and Chrysler through bankruptcy in late 2009. So you yelling about Romney wanting to put the automakers into bankuptcy, but Obama did it. How do you think he got the stockholders and bond holders thrown out? It was in bankruptcy court. The President can't just take over any company and throw the owners out. It takes legal action.

Bond and stock holders had already lost their money. The stock was worthless, the bonds were worthless, and bond holders wouldn't have gotten anything anyway after the creditors which would have gotten only pennies on the dollar in liquidation if anything at all after the lawyers got done.

Bankruptcy is a way for business to reorganize like American Airlines did, Romney did not want to shut down the industry only to make it better. Obama, not only did put the company thru bankruptcy and calling it a different name but also, gifted Chrysler to Fiat, is that reorganization? Or is it a cry for generations?

Wake up America, the danger is here, we need to recognize it and face.

Also, what about the 4 Americans in Benghazi? Calling for help which was very close by, but the president on a live feed did not move? Was he worried about his Muslims "friends"? Or just did not care to sacrifice these 4 heroes?

Matter of fact what private investor do you know had that much money in those times and was willing to risk it on the auto industry? Romney's plan of government guarantees is simply just not credible. I will put it another way, zero investors=zero dollars, and zero+zero=zero. You and Romney are ZEROS for suggesting otherwise.

U.S. says CIA responded within 25 minutes to Benghazi attack

Intelligence officials dispute a report by Fox News that officers in Libya were ordered to 'stand down' after the diplomatic compound came under attack.

By Ken Dilanian, Los Angeles Times November 2, 2012

WASHINGTON — CIA security officers in a Benghazi post responded within 25 minutes to a call for help from a nearby State Department compound after it came under attack Sept. 11, officials said Thursday, seeking to refute a Fox News report asserting that CIA managers ordered them to stay put.

In releasing a detailed timeline of CIA actions that night, senior intelligence officials have put aside long-standing concerns about revealing the extent of the agency's presence in Benghazi in order to push back against what officials say are baseless allegations that aid was withheld.

"At every level in the chain of command, from the senior officers in Libya to the most senior officials in Washington, everyone was fully engaged in trying to provide whatever help they could," a senior intelligence official said in a statement. "There were no orders to anybody to stand down in providing support."

Fox News asserted in a story last week that CIA managers had ordered agency security officers to "stand down" and remain in their own facility, known as the Annex, when the attack on the diplomatic compound began about 9:40 p.m. and that there was an hour delay before officers disobeyed orders and went to help repel the attack that killed Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens and State Department officer Sean Smith.

Among those who rushed to help was Tyrone Woods, a former Navy SEAL who was part of the CIA security team and who later died in the attacks.

The Fox story also asserted that the CIA "chain of command" refused to pass along requests from its officers for military aid and that special operations forces in nearby Sicily could have been sent to help but were not. Intelligence and Pentagon officials strenuously denied that Thursday.

They insisted there was no viable military option to disrupt what amounted to a series of sporadic attacks in a crowded city full of people sympathetic to the U.S. There were no armed drones in the region and airstrikes were not called for, officials said.

"Let's say we were able to get an aircraft there. Do you go in and start strafing a populated area without knowing where friend or foe is?" a senior Defense official asked. "If you did that, you could kill the very people you are trying to help."

A special operations team was sent to Naval Air Station Sigonella in Sicily, but the team arrived after the attack ended, said the senior Defense official, who would not be quoted by name discussing potentially classified
                    information.

Defense Secretary Leon E. Panetta learned of the attack shortly after it began, about 4:30 p.m Eastern
time, Defense officials said, and discussed it in a previously scheduled meeting with the president. Obama ordered him to pursue whatever options were feasible, a Defense official said.

Panetta "ordered all appropriate forces to respond to the unfolding events in Benghazi, but the attack was over before those forces could be employed,"Pentagon spokesman George Little said.

Shortly after 11 p.m. a surveillance drone had arrived from elsewhere in Libya — about an hour after it was requested, officials said. But the video feed was not seen by the president, contrary to some news reports. And the feed did not offer analysts a clear understanding of what was happening on the ground, officials said.

After the CIA team arrived at the compound, "over the next 25 minutes, team members approach the compound, attempt to secure heavy weapons [from Libyans], and make their way onto the compound itself in the face of enemy fire," the senior U.S. intelligence official said.

The senior intelligence official disclosed that the CIA also sent a second six-member team from Tripoli on a chartered plane to help repel the attack. The team included Glen Doherty, another former SEAL, who was later killed when attackers fired mortar rounds at the CIA Annex.

The team arrived around midnight but got bogged down at the airport. Ultimately, it learned that "the ambassador was almost certainly dead" and headed to the agency facility "to assist with the evacuation," the official said.

It arrived with Libyan support at the Annex at 5:15 a.m., just before mortar rounds began to strike. Woods and Doherty were killed as they fired on militants from the roof. The mortar attack lasted 11 minutes, the official said.

The drone overhead was not armed. Even if it had been, there were no viable targets, officials said.

"The officers on the ground in Benghazi responded to the situation on the night of 11 and 12 September as quickly and as effectively as possible," the intelligence official said. "The security officers in particular were genuine heroes. They quickly tried to rally additional local support and heavier weapons, and when that could not be accomplished within minutes, they still moved in and put their own lives on the line to save their comrades."
