Biden unloads -- again -- on Romney car ad

SARASOTA, Fla. -- Promising to give a Sarasota audience "the whole load" of his GOP criticism, Vice President Joe Biden unloaded a barrage of derision Wednesday over a Romney campaign ad alleging that American automakers are planning to move manufacturing overseas to China.

Calling the Jeep ad "one of the most flagrantly dishonest ads I can ever remember in my political career," Biden called the allegation - which has been widely disputed by fact checkers and by the auto companies themselves - "an outrageous lie."

"All my time I have never heard an American corporation in the waning hours of the campaign engage with that kind of description of what a presidential candidate's doing," Biden said after quoting a General Motors statement calling the Romney ad "campaign politics at its cynical worst."

Responding to Biden's criticism, Romney adviser Kevin Madden said "We've got an ad out that we believe makes the case for why Gov. Romney would be stronger for the auto industry and why the auto industry's an important part of a strong economy. They've got an ad that they're using to make their case to the public, and we'll leave that with voters."

In Sarasota, Biden claimed that auto workers in Ohio have been frightened about losing their jobs because of the ad, calling United Auto Workers representatives to ask if its allegations are true.

"Folks, the president's job is not to show confusion," he said. "It's to plant the seeds of confidence."

The vice president's remarks to a crowd of over a thousand came 1100 miles away from the rust belt cities where the Romney ad is on the air, emphasizing how strongly the Obama team hopes to push back against the commercial and make its claims into a character issue for Romney. President Barack Obama is not on the campaign trail today, traveling in New Jersey with GOP governor Chris Christie to survey damage from SuperStorm Sandy.

Give em' hell Joe! Ford closed it's St. Paul Ranger Plant and 830 jobs were lest. They are going to make them in Asia. They just closed 2 plants in Europe. I bet I know where those jobs will go. The fact that suto makers are moving out of the US is no BS. Joe is correct and it's time for someone to call BS on moving jobs from the US. Americans can make things better than anyone else. We invented the industrial revolution and then let out factories age and crumble. It's time to invest in America. The corperations are selling out America and the American worker.

I think you missed the point... Did you read the article? He isn't calling out Chrysler for moving jobs overseas. He is calling out Romney for criticizing him/them... truthfully I may add, that the Obama auto bailout resulted in jobs they hoped to save here going overseas... It's a hard truth to swallow, but it is the truth.

Is chrysler lying now or was it lying then?

Fiat plans to return Jeep output to China and to manufacture all of its models there in the near future.

Currently, Fiat and its Chinese partner, Guangzhou Automobile Group, are in talks regarding the plan to manufacture Jeeps in China, the world's largest auto market. Chrysler has built Jeeps in China until 2009 when Fiat took control.

"The volume opportunity for us is very significant. We're reviewing the opportunities within existing capacity and we are considering whether to localize the entire Jeep portfolio or some of the Jeep portfolio," said Mike Manley, chief operating officer of Fiat and Chrysler in Asia.

Chrysler, which entered an alliance with Fiat as part of the U.S. government-backed bankruptcy, relies on the Chinese market to make up for the loss in Europe. The company aims at selling 500,000 units annually outside North America by 2014. During the first nine months of the year, Chrysler's global sales increased 22% to 153,154 units, with the Jeep brand accounting for three of every four of the sales, an increase of 54% to 117,189 units.

"We've grown much stronger in Asia to make up or compensate for some of the difficulties in Europe," Manley said. Europe will be in "very difficult, tough times" through at least 2013, he said.

It's discouraging to think the right wing will lie and misinform the public in order to gain power.

And it's sad that so many people would ignore those lies and vote for a lying, souless POS like ROmney.

The comments made by Mr. Romney regarding Jeep sending jobs overseas are so over the top as to cause one's breath to be taken away. Is this the man we want as President? Someone who will say anything and do anything to get votes?

Chrysler has stated that the claim is totally false and in fact they are adding over 2000 jobs in Ohio and Michigan to produce the vehicles. They are intending to produce Jeeps in china but they are for sale in China and Chinese workers will be used. NO AMERICAN JOBS TO GO OVERSEAS!!!

Does Romney have no core? He is a scary person and I dread our fate should he be successful.

This type of distorted truth or lies that mimic the truth that the Romney/Rove campaign have developed wreak havac on democracies. they teach all the wrong lessons about voting and making voting decisions in a free society. Politicians have to be careful how they twist the truth and societies have to be very leery and do their homework while knowing who and where the information they are believing comes from. Romney and Rove take advantage of low information voters. They have developed this strategy from the late Lee Atwater and continued in a path to destroy a free information democracy. If this type of politics is not soundly condemed by both Dems and GOP we as a democracy are in serious trouble. The GOP in particular has driven us down a road were we can no longer trust politicians to tell the truth. Mitt Romney has no core believes and since he has nothing he truly believes or stands for he will say anything and do anything to be President.

            It's not lying, it's "wordsmithing".

Which to me is actually worse, since all wordsmithing does is package a lie in a way it's "technically" the truth.

Mitt took a very poorly-written piece from Bloomberg and quoted it verbatim, which allows him to wriggle away from accusation that he is the one who said all Jeep production is moving to China. It was actually Bloomberg.

And it is a fact that Chrysler is building a factory in China.

But, any reasonable, logical person can see the speech and the ad, and see that the core takeaway message is this: Chrysler may move Jeep production to China at the expense of U.S. jobs.

And that, as the Chrysler CEO himself has noted, is an absolute and utter lie.

Kinda makes you wonder, if they can take that lie and dress it up with "wordsmithing", what kind of wordsmithing we'd get once he's elected.

            Caveat Emptor, Romney voters.

The electoral college maps I typically view, Rasmussen, 538, RCP, have President Obama ahead by double digits.

            And from Gallup:

Americans Still Give Obama Better Odds to Win Election

54% of Americans think Obama will win; 34% predict Romney

Americans Generally Have Been Accurate at Predicting the Winner

Americans have a good track record regarding their collective prediction of the outcome of presidential elections, correctly predicting the winner of the popular vote in final Gallup surveys taken in 1996, 2000, 2004, and 2008. Although Americans are not as optimistic on Obama's odds as various "prediction markets," such as Intrade.com, where the president has often been projected as having a probability of winning of more than 60%, the prediction markets and the American public in general find Obama the favorite against Romney. The 2012 presidential election outcome will help determine how accurate Americans are in their personal predictions.

Did Biden unload and tell how much Chrysler still owes the taxpayers or that the Treasury department "settled" $4 billion of the "loan" for $1.9 billion? Hooray for Chrysler....I guess as long as we keep giving them billion dollars gifts they can afford to go to China and build cars. So, in effect, the American taxpayers are bankrolling Chryslers adventure capital.

They''ve also dug out the old "welfare-work" ad, as discredited as it is, for one more go on the Ohio airwaves. Might as well, nothing to lose at this point but the election, right?

Also noticed that they issued a press release that they were airing a new ad in Pennsylvania, but they didn't do this for other ads they've recently released. It's like they want the NEWS that they are going into Pennsylvania to get noticed as much as the ads are.

McCain threw money at Pennsylvania at the last second last year, because he knew his campaign was going down and he needed a miracle. I'm wondering if throwing money into a state where the RCP average margin is 4.6 in favor of Obama. and Romney has the lead in exactly zero polls, is a similar sign of desperation.

No surprise that the campaign and Romney know it is a lie, yet continue to voice it. Romney has not shown any instance in the last decade where he actually has a core principle that he holds consistently. After slamming FEMA in the early primary debates and claiming that disaster response is better left to the states or even private industry, Romney now says he would continue to give FEMA the same funding....completely disregarding the Ryan budget he favors that would gut FEMA. Integrity is as foreign to this man as are his bank accounts.

There's all kinds of spin out there regarding early voters, especially from Team Obama and their allies in the CorruptMedia, but I don't believe in tea leaves; I believe in numbers. Gallup provided numbers, and those numbers (with a huge 3,300 sample) show Romney winning early voters by a margin of 52-47%. And now we have hard numbers out of Florida showing Democrats well behind their early vote lead when compared to this time last year:

But a Republican yesterday noted that at this point in 2008, Democrats held a 134,774-vote lead in Florida. As of yesterday. Democrats led by less than 41,000 – a nearly 70 percent drop.

The Obama campaign does not dispute those numbers.

For those of you saying, "That's all well and good, but Obama is still ahead," here are more hard numbers: 2.2 million early votes have thus far been cast in the Sunshine State. This isn't a juicy-juice poll, these are cold hard numbers. Among those early votes cast, Democrats are only up 43-41%. Yes, that's still a two point lead, but Romney is winning Independents in Florida by anywhere from 6 to 10%, and thus far 17% of Florida Indies have voted early.

That likely isn't enough of a cushion to overcome the two-point deficit, but it's just a fact that on Election Day, Republicans turn out at a higher percentage than Democrats. Also, the most recent polls out of Florida do not in any way match up to the actual early vote numbers. Rasmussen has Obama winning the early vote by 10 points but still losing 50-48% to Romney. It's not lag time, either. Rasmussen's poll was taken last Friday. The actual early vote count showing Democrats only up 2% was released yesterday.

The just-released Quinnipiac polls showing Obama up one in Florida shows Obama beating Romney by six-points with early voters. The last date of this particular survey was Sunday. So there might be a lag-time, but a jump in four points in just two days with 2.2 million early votes already cast is a huge jump and unlikely.

Finally, almost every poll, including today's from Quinnipiac, shows Republican enthusiasm at or nearing a double-digit advantage over Democrats -- and we Righties like to vote on Election Day.

MARION — Joan Stevens was one of several early voters at the polls on Monday. But when Stevens tried to cast her ballot for president, she noticed a problem.

Upon selecting "Mitt Romney" on the electronic touch screen, Barack Obama's name lit up.

It took Stevens three tries before her selection was accurately recorded.

"You want to vote for who you want to vote for, and when you can't it's irritating," Stevens said.

Stevens said she alerted Jackie Smith, a board of elections member who was present. Smith declined to comment, but Stevens says she mentioned that the machine had been having problems all day.

Stevens also reported the issue to Sophia Rogers, the director of the board of elections for Marion County.

Rogers said the machine worked fine when she and others tried voting on it. No one else had reported problems with the voting machines malfunctioning.

Rogers suggested the issue may have been caused by not hitting the button directly or tapping with more than one finger. Stevens was aware the machine had to be operated a certain way.

"I know how to do the voting," Stevens said.

Despite no problems with that particular machine, Rogers decided to take all precautions. She contacted the vendor and had them inspect the device.

"Because of her issue, we had that machine recalibrated," Rogers said. "I am certain the equipment works properly."

Rogers said that those still skeptic about using the electronic stations have the option of filling out a paper ballot, even voting from home and mailing via absentee ballot.

Voting in-person is open daily to all voters at 222 West Center Street through Election Day on November 6. All qualified Ohio voters can also submit an absentee ballot by filling out a form found at the Marion elections website at marionelections.com

When is Obama going to tell the American people the truth about BENGHAZI?

Is is true or not that Jeep is moving manufacturing to China? It is true. The company has already announced it. So what is the problem Joe? Why does the truth bother you so much?

They aren't moving production to china, US Jeeps will be built here in the US. They are expanding production to build Jeeps in china for china customers.

Pretty simple, can't imagine why a free market type would find this confusing. Also find it hard that a free market type would view this as bad for the company. Shouldn't a free market company be able to expand globally.

They are not MOVING manufacturing to China.

MOVING implies taking a thing from one place, and locating it somewhere else.

They are EXPANDING into China. That is, they are going to open a new factory so they can sell cars to the Chinese.

EXPANDING into China will add to their overall business, with no loss of U.S. jobs.

Why does the truth bother you so much that you come here and spread lies?

Yesterday, Bloomberg News reported that Fiat "is considering building Chrysler models in Italy, including Jeeps, for export to North America." Today, that news became real when company CEO Sergio Marchnionne announced, in Bloomberg's words (in paragraph 6, subtitled "Italy's Jeep"), that it will "build a small Jeep in Italy for export beginning in 2014 ... a new model for Europe and the U.S. that isn't currently in production."

Of course, today's Bloomberg report led with Marchionne's clever denial about the company's plans for manufacturing in China: "Jeep production will not be moved from the United States to China." No, he has instead set the stage for newer Jeep models exported to the U.S. to gradually supplant older models made in the U.S. over several years. This should be an embarrassment to those who engineered the Obama administration's bailout of Chrysler in 2009, ripping off secured creditors in the bankruptcy process and thereby giving Fiat a larger initial share of the company than it deserved. But don't worry, Colleen Barry at the Associated Press is there with vague language to ensure that this news doesn't become general knowledge (bold is mine):

FIAT PLANS TO LAUNCH 17 NEW CARS IN EUROPE BY 2016

Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne says he will ramp up production of the Maserati, Alfa Romeo and Jeep brands in Europe by 2016 to put idled Italian plants back to work.

A new industrial plan for Fiat, which controls Chrysler, announced Tuesday foresees the launch of 17 new car models from Italy from 2013 to 2016.

Marchionne told analysts that the focus is on luxury brands Maserati and Alfa Romeo because they have high enough margins to generate profits as exports. The plan includes a smaller Jeep aimed primarily at Europe.

It's also "aimed" at North America, but Colleen chose not to inform readers of that inconvenient fact.

The reelection campaign of Barack Obama is beating up on Mitt Romney over China, while the beneficiary of administration's 2009 largesse is quietly moving production of Chrysler's new generation of its signature vehicle overseas. The AP's Barry is shamefully helping to keep it quiet.

The next Jeep Patriot will be about as American as Soccer, Spaghetti and Tiramisu.

According to a recently publish report Fiat, which controls Chrysler and Jeep, plans on investing $1.3 billion to retool the factory in Turin, Italy which will build the next generation of the Jeep Compass and Patriot.

That means that Jeep will be importing both cars from Italy to the tune of 100,000 units. In other words, Chrysler hope to import 100,000 Jeeps to America starting in 2013.

But don't fret, engines and transmissions will come from Chrysler's U.S. companies…at least for the cars coming back home to America. Which means that either the cars will have the best of both the new and old world, or if they don't get it right, the worst of both words.

                                        Time will tell.

So why did Jeep invest $500 million in a new plant in Ohio and announce they will be hiring 1100 workers there, NoMoreTax?

Also, do you have any original thoughts of your own, or do you just cut and paste the same articles over and over and over and over and over?

If the Romney/Ryan budget is revenue neutral, meaning the government takes in no less or no more revenue, how are they helping the "job creators"?

For their budget to work, they need 12 million new jobs. Without tax cuts for the "job creators", the wealthy and corporations, how will they make their budget work.

If the governments revenue remains neutral under their plan, and they do help the "job creators" through the tax code, where will the money be transferred from, to help the "job creators".

Based on their own statements regarding their policies and budget recommendations, their math doesn't work. It doesn't work on the flip side, and it doesn't work on the flop side.
