Biden unloads -- again -- on Romney car ad

SARASOTA, Fla. -- Promising to give a Sarasota audience "the whole load" of his GOP criticism, Vice President Joe Biden unloaded a barrage of derision Wednesday over a Romney campaign ad alleging that American automakers are planning to move manufacturing overseas to China.

Calling the Jeep ad "one of the most flagrantly dishonest ads I can ever remember in my political career," Biden called the allegation - which has been widely disputed by fact checkers and by the auto companies themselves - "an outrageous lie."

"All my time I have never heard an American corporation in the waning hours of the campaign engage with that kind of description of what a presidential candidate's doing," Biden said after quoting a General Motors statement calling the Romney ad "campaign politics at its cynical worst."

Responding to Biden's criticism, Romney adviser Kevin Madden said "We've got an ad out that we believe makes the case for why Gov. Romney would be stronger for the auto industry and why the auto industry's an important part of a strong economy. They've got an ad that they're using to make their case to the public, and we'll leave that with voters."

In Sarasota, Biden claimed that auto workers in Ohio have been frightened about losing their jobs because of the ad, calling United Auto Workers representatives to ask if its allegations are true.

"Folks, the president's job is not to show confusion," he said. "It's to plant the seeds of confidence."

The vice president's remarks to a crowd of over a thousand came 1100 miles away from the rust belt cities where the Romney ad is on the air, emphasizing how strongly the Obama team hopes to push back against the commercial and make its claims into a character issue for Romney. President Barack Obama is not on the campaign trail today, traveling in New Jersey with GOP governor Chris Christie to survey damage from SuperStorm Sandy.

So it' technically true? how is something true? but not true? Technically the company was sold in 2010, and technically they will now make parts in china. That means jobs that could have been in America are not, period. It's true. So instead of making fun of Romney how about this, go check and see why this was allowed, and investigate how many jobs have left, either include auto industry or more, just go check.

Now this auto bailout. Let's examine. One reason I voted for Obama was, he said "I will not negotiate or be bullied by the auto unions." Guess what, he lied. He went to the auto makers to discuss a bailout, some of it was televised, so this is factual. The auto unions walked out, and so did the auto makers. Obama bowed down, and then allowed them to negotiate the bailout, and he signed it.

Obama lies and bows down to all. He even said with his own mouth, he was sorry for not getting things done, and everyone acts like they are in denial. Listen, if you vote for him fine, that's great but please stop just following political rhetoric, both parties have strengths and weaknesses. Just look for them and don't blindly hate a name like conservative, or liberal, or republican, or democrat, it's childish.

Obama will be your President for the next four years, and we Democrats will clean up the mess caused by your insanity whether you like it or not. I wish we had a time machine so we could send your silly arses back to the 18th century where you belong. Such simple minds should not try to understand complex issues. Obama 2012

Noting that Chrysler production plans for Jeep had entered the public debate, Marchionne said, “I feel obliged to unambiguously restate our position: Jeep production will not be moved from the United States to China.

“Jeep is one of our truly global brands with uniquely American roots. This will never change. So much so that we committed that the iconic Wrangler nameplate, currently produced in our Toledo, Ohio plant, will never see full production outside the United States,” he continued

Some one sure as heck is lying. But who?????

In a Bloomberg interview, Jeep's president said the automaker plans to restore Jeep production in China, suspended in 2009, and is considering making all Jeeps in China. "Fiat SpA, majority owner of Chrysler Group LLC, plans to return Jeep output to China and may eventually make all of its models in that country, according to the head of both automakers' operations in the region," reported the business wire service.

Mike Manley, chief operating officer of Fiat and Chrysler in Asia and president of the Jeep brand, told Bloomberg, "We're reviewing the opportunities within existing capacity" as well as "should we be localizing the entire Jeep portfolio or some of the Jeep portfolio" to China.

Chrysler builds Jeep SUV models at plants in Michigan, Illinois and Ohio. Manley said the firm is in talks with China's Guangzhou Automobile Group Co.

Kids, some of you keep bringing up the "Fast and Furious" issue. Let's clarify that so you can stop nagging Democrats for Republican mistakes. In 2006, this program was established under the George "Dubya" Bush Administration and ran until it was brought to the attention of Attorney General Eric Holder who IMMEDIATELY stopped the program. Unfortunately, too late for the border patrol who was determined to be killed by FRIENDLY FIRE. The documents that the Republicans kept harassing Eric Holder for were disallowed from being shown and were only withheld because Mr. Holder was, BY LAW, unable to release said documents for security purposes.

So OBAMA didn't abuse his executive privelege and used it less than HALF that of George Dubya Bush and Eric Holder was OBEYING THE LAW when he did not release those documents to those Republicans who KNEW he couldn't. They threw a charge of "Contempt of Congress" at him and immediate dropped it. So was it so important or was making the charge of contempt against him the real issue? OBVIOUSLY, the Repubs have no substance for the American people so they are consumed with trying to control America's social agenda and give some more tax breaks to the wealthiest people on earth so we will all prosper... are you NUTS?? LOL

OMG - Bush - "wide Receiver" under Bush for less than a year, done in corrdinator effort with the Mexican Authorities and less than 700 weapons. Obama starts Fast and Furious - nothing like Wide Receiver. They do not tell the Mexican Govt, they lose track of most of the weapons and a border gaurd is killed and 2 weapons from fast and furious are found at the scene. The friendly fire incident was recently and the station named after Brian Terry, killed in F&F. Documents were withheld because of what is in them and Obama lied then and is lying about Benghazi now. I voted for a Leader and 4 years ago I thought it was Obama - But after the lies where people have died I can not in good conscience do so.

            Doug J-735313 and Wyo2,

Thanks for weighing in. Today, did you happen to notice that the Libyan Parliament was overrun by Libyan militiamen who had a few grievances to air. The Libyan government can't even control many of those ruthless bastards, so, any Americans operating there is at risk. That risk goes with our fallen's territory. It is extremely unfortunate, but yet the truth. But, to politicize the deaths of 4 great Americans solely to damage our president just weeks and days from the election, just so Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan can gain some leverage in the election is machiavellian. I question whether you two give two sh*t's about our ambassador and his staff. It appears to be all about Obama.

thank you! The repubs want to talk about lost lives? Do not even get me started! Bush/Cheney's worthless war in Iraq killed so many of our beautiful son and daughters. The lost life in my state, I dare this crowd discuss lost life, do they think we have such short memories we do not remember who got us into the two wars that has killed so many of our loved one. I dare them mention Libya.

I do not blame Bush for Libya, I blame Bush for the greater issue we suffer today, two wars that have killed our children for what! Remember who was elected and has had to deal with the mess Bush/Cheney has left us. They went out the back door and Obama has been dealing with it everyday, with no thanks from people like you. I would think someone would be willing to say thank you for starting to clean up this mess, maybe not perfect, as he has said, but has given a damn good try. I dare you to give him a bad time for the awful job these two clowns left him. Failing economy, two wars, and people feeling hopeless. Bush and Cheney are living the good life in their beautiful homes and rich lifestyle while the rest of us struggle everyday to climb out of the mess they left us American. Please at least respect the guy that has stayed with us, cared about us and worked to make it better.

                      From the article"

"Folks, the president's job is not to show confusion," he said. "It's to plant the seeds of confidence."

The President's administration said that the action in Libya was not a terrorist attack. That is not the way it happened.

The President said that he would bring the country together. That did not happen.

The President said that his administration would be transparent. That has not happened.

The President said that he would solve problems in Washington by reaching across the isle. That did not happen.

The President said that he would go over the health care bill, "line by line" with my congressman on CSPAN. That did not happen.

The President said that if the stimulus bill were passed that our unemployment problems would be solved. That did not happen.

The President said that he would cut the deficit in half by the end of his first administration. That did not happen.

The President's economic plan for the next 4 years is mathematically impossible.

I estimate that the money that the federal government is borrowing today is going to end up costing the tax payers 10 times the amount borrowed to repay over the next 180 years. in effect, paying 10 times the going rate for goods and services in not good management.

I know this is trivial but the President said that the White House dog would be a mutt, "like me", from a shelter yet the dog they got was a purebred who has never been in a shelter. The President is suppose to be the most powerful man in the free world yet he cannot keep his word on something as trivial as the white house dog.

Our President has a major flaw. He says things that sound good at the time but turn out to be nothing but bs.

This President has done more to divide this country than unite it. He has done more to divide Congress than unite it. He has failed in his economic and foreign policy. Another 4 years of this administration will bring this country to it's knees.

We can all believe in Obama because our "eye candy" President has this all well in hand. He has kept all of his promises. The "rich" will gladly pay for everything. There is now total transparency in the federal government and the nation has been brought together through hope and change. Our President has no problems in getting things done in congress because of the success of his reaching across the isle. GITMO is still closed as promised and the stimulus has completely solved all of our unemployment problems. The 2012 federal deficit was less than 229.27 billion dollars as promised. We are now at peace with everyone in the world and all or our troops will be home before the end of 2014 and by 2015 we will start paying off the national debt. I am sure that everyone has figured out what they are going to do with all that money they have been saving on health care costs. We can all go on vacations using the new green energy, high speed rail system that was built via those stimulus funded shovel ready jobs. I am sure that everyone is looking forward to watching the President and my congressman go over the health care bill, "line by line", on C-SPAN as the President has promised. All hail the Chief!

Updated as of 8:30pm EST on Wednesday, October 31 (Happy Halloween!):

With less than 124 hours left in the 2012 presidential campaign, Real Clear Politics has Obama leading in eight of their eleven toss-up states with Romney leading in three.

In descending order of 'percentage of lead' in favor of Obama, followed in ascending order of 'percentage of lead' in favor of Romney, here are the published averaged numbers from RCP as of 8:30pm EST together with the most recent FiveThirtyEight election night probabilities of victory for either candidate:

In PENNSYLVANIA, with 20 electoral votes, Obama's lead has fallen to 4.6%, down slightly from yesterday's 4.7%. Nonetheless, FiveThirtyEight currently gives Obama a 95.4% chance of winning here, up from yesterday's 94.2%.

In WISCONSIN, with 10 electoral votes, Obama's lead has risen to 4.0%, up substantially from yesterday's 2.3%. FiveThirtyEight currently gives Obama an 88.1% chance of winning here, up significantly from yesterday's 85.7%.

In MICHIGAN, with 16 electoral votes, Obama's lead has fallen to 3.0%, down from yesterday's 4.0%. FiveThirtyEight currently gives Obama a 97.9% chance of winning here, down slightly from yesterday's 98.1%.

In NEVADA, with 6 electoral votes, Obama's lead is holding at 2.4%. FiveThirtyEight currently gives Obama an 82.8% chance of winning here, up significantly from yesterday's 79.7%.

In OHIO, with 18 electoral votes, Obama's lead has risen to 2.3%, up slightly from yesterday's 2.1%. FiveThirtyEight currently gives Obama a 77.6% chance of winning here, up significantly from yesterday's 73.3%.

In IOWA, with 6 electoral votes, Obama's lead has fallen to 1.3%, down from yesterday's 2.3%. However, FiveThirtyEight gives Obama a 74.4% chance of winning here, up from yesterday's 73.9%.

In NEW HAMPSHIRE, with 4 electoral votes, Obama's lead has fallen to 1.0%, down from yesterday's 2.0%. However, FiveThirtyEight gives Obama a 75.4% chance of winning here, up significantly from yesterday's 70.3%.

In COLORADO, with 9 electoral votes, Obama's lead has risen to 0.5%, up from yesterday's tie. FiveThirtyEight currently gives Obama a 60.7% chance of winning here, up significantly from yesterday's 5.4%.

                          ---------------------------------------------------------------------

In VIRGINIA, with 13 electoral votes, Romney's lead has risen to 0.5%, up from yesterday's tie. Interestingly, FiveThirtyEight currently gives Obama a 61.8% chance of winning here, up significantly from yesterday's 57.8%.

In FLORIDA, with 29 electoral votes, Romney's lead has fallen to 1.2%, down from yesterday's 1.3%. FiveThirtyEight currently gives Romney a 59.3% chance of winning here, down significantly from yesterday's 64.7%.

In NORTH CAROLINA, with 15 electoral votes, Romney's lead has risen to 3.8%, up from yesterday's 3.0%. FiveThirtyEight gives Romney an 82.0% chance of winning here, up from yesterday's 81.4%.

All in all, while Romney's position in six of the eleven toss-ups has improved over the past 48 hours, his chances of winning in four of these six (Pennsylvania, Iowa, New Hampshire, and Virginia) has actually declined. This curious development is a function of Romney losing his race against the clock where his gains are simply not occurring quickly enough to make a difference.

In any case, in order for Obama to win re-election the least complex route appears to be through maintaining his current lead in the five toss-up states where his existing margins are widest (Pennsylvania at 4.6%, Wisconsin at 4.0%, Michigan at 3.0%, Nevada at 2.4%, and Ohio at 2.3%). Doing so would bring his electoral vote total on Election Day to 271. In this scenario, Obama could still surpass 270 while failing to hold Iowa, New Hampshire, and Colorado.

However, should Obama fail to hold Ohio, the loss could effectively be neutralized by any of the following combination of wins from states where FiveThirtyEight is currently predicting Obama victories:

Path #1: Obama loses Ohio but wins Iowa, New Hampshire, and Colorado resulting in 272 electoral votes.

Path #2: Obama loses Ohio but steals Virginia while also taking New Hampshire, Iowa, or Colorado resulting in 270, 272, or 275 electoral votes, respectively.

Interestingly, with Romney's lead having diminished significantly in Florida over the past two weeks and with Hurricane Sandy forcefully highlighting the stark contrast between the candidates regarding the value and necessity if not the mere existence of FEMA in a state which has perhaps the greatest dependence on federal storm relief efforts in the country, a 3rd path has now emerged which could provide for some interesting election night television:

Path #3: Obama comes from behind to win Florida. This scenario would require only that Obama win the three states in which his present leads are widest (Pennsylvania at 4.6%, Wisconsin at 4.0%, and Michigan at 3.0%), resulting in 276 electoral votes.

For Romney to unseat Obama, he not only would have to hold the three states in which he presently leads, Florida, North Carolina, and Virginia bringing his electoral vote total to 248, but also steal a victory in Colorado where Obama's lead today rose to 0.5% and in Ohio where Obama's lead today settled at 2.3%. By so doing, Romney's electoral vote total would reach 275.

Should Romney fail to steal Ohio he could overcome this shortfall by capturing the four other states in which Obama's current leads are smallest (Colorado at 0.5%, New Hampshire at 1.0%, Iowa at 1.3%, and Nevada at 2.4%) resulting in an electoral vote total of 273.

In either scenario, however, Romney must hold Florida at all costs.

FiveThirtyEight, at present, estimates the chance of Election Day victory for each candidate as follows: Obama 77.4% - Romney 22.6%. FiveThirtyEight also projects that on Election Day the final electoral tally will be as follows: Obama 299 - Romney 239. Lastly, although it makes no difference in terms of the final result which can only be determined by the Electoral College, FiveThirtyEight currently predicts a national popular vote distribution on Election Day as follows: Obama 50.4% - Romney 48.5%.

With less than 124 hours of campaigning left, this one still appears to be going down to the wire.

This latest lie from Romney just gives life long republicans, like me, another reason to not vote for the chronic lying weasel that Romney has been and continues to be. What should have been a cakewalk victory for the GOP has been upended with another idiotic pres/vp ticket. Have the repubs not learned there lesson from the idiotic nomination of McCain/Palin? Romney's constant lying and inability to articulate any detailed tax and economic recovery plans just proves that the guy is simply not electable.

Face it folks, he is a liar, a thief and a coward. You can try all you want but you will never make ChickenSalad out ChickenMitt.

Where is Obama's service record? Heck where is any Obama records prior to his election? We all know his dismal record after his election. Chicken? Where was Obama when Americans were being slaughtered in Libya??? The coward Obama let them die without trying to help. Try as you may but no one will ever convince me he couldn't have tried to do something!!!!!!! In my mind Obama contributed to the murdered those Americans.

This close to the election, the candidates virtually know the outcome of the election. Romney is showing this through his desperate actions, including his outrageous lie in Ohio about Jeep, his increase in advertising in Minneapolis (Northwest Wisconsin) and Pennsylvania (trying to make the DNC spread itself thin with advertisements). Obama has a virtual lock on 303 electoral votes. Romney is grasping at straws. Obama will carry the states he won in 2008 with the exception of Virginia, North Carolina, and Florida.

What a shame for women in these United States! I certainly hope that when you are eligible, you will NOT collect Social Security or Medicare. That would make you a hypocrite and part of the 47% Romney refers to. Do your part, and take care of yourself! If you are for him...you must be very wealthy. The rest of us need affordable healthcare, access to cancer screenings via Planned Parenthood, jobs that pay real living wages, realistic minimum wage pay, tax breaks for the middle class as well as our deductions, college aid for students who want to go to college ( not those who can get money from their parents!) , equal pay for equal work for women (which Romney did NOT sign), Fema...not faith based charities and "donations to the Red Cross", and you know those immigrants that you "converted"? You sold them down the river. I guess you have no conscience.
