Biden: 'When your insurance rates go down, then you'll vote for me in 2016'

Vice President Joe Biden made a reference to possible future political ambitions at a stop Wednesday at a restaurant in Florida.

A short while after an earlier rally -- where the vice president boasted of "being a good Biden" today -- Biden slipped into a characteristic moment, to the delight of DC's chattering class.

NBC's Carrie Dann, who is traveling with the vice president, describes the scene:

At an off-the-record stop at a restaurant called "400 station" in Sarasota, Joe Biden spoke on the phone with the brother of a voter who wanted him to chat with her Republican relative.

After chatting about the health insurance law, he concluded, "Well look, I'm not trying to talk you into voting for me, I just wanted to say hi to you, okay? And after it's all over when your insurance rates go down, then you'll vote for me in 2016. I'll talk to you later."

Biden is among the handful of Democrats included in early speculative lists of possible presidential candidates in 2016, at which point the former Delaware senator would be 73-years-old.

His viability as a candidate, though, might well hinge on the outcome of the 2012 election next Tuesday, when a second term for President Barack Obama is far from certain.

Not fear...fact my friend. The job losses are not just a fictional story. When your neighbor works for St. Jude and comes home without a job......real life. Do you think the 20+ taxes in Obamacare are just made up stuff......or do you understand the consequences of this bill? Fancy Nancy said we have to pass the bill to see what's in the bill. Welllll......many are already starting to see and the rest of us will soon find out. Healthcare had to be overhauled......but this is not the answer.

I had a friend whose insurance on her child just went up from $300 to $800 a month. When she called to complain she was told it was to "prepare" for Obamacare. She talked to another friend who had their insurance jump up as well, again they were also told it was to prepare for Obamacare. I know a lot of small business people who pay 100% of employee insurance. After Obamacare takes hold they'll just dump the employees off the insurance and pay the fines, that'll be cheaper. Then the employees will be left to try pay it themselves. Talked to a nurse who has read the bill and she says it DOES have a cap, some think that it does not, it does. That's just one misconception about this bill. It's going to be a disaster.

When you rates go down? Mr. Biden is already pandering to those who will receive vouchers to offset higher premiums.

Did I say vouchers? Subsidies; where the government gives you a credit in advance towards buying private insurance.

this is a prediction biden should not have made ---- now, in 4 years, when premiums have NOT decreased, potential voters will remember when he said today. ------ in fact, many people's premiums have increased since obamacare was passed.

A possible drop in insurance rates will pale in comparison to the increases people and small to medium sized business owners will face under the "Affordable" Health Care Act. Companies are already exploring the 28 hour hire window to increase part time employees and then drop some full time employees. This is being done now to escape the very expensive health care takeover by the Democrats in congress, on that businesses simply cannot afford. Talk about the lack of bipartisanship and transparency and passing major legislation over American voter objections on Christmas Eve. For shame. Seniors have been thrown under the bus with 716 BILLION in proposed Medicare cuts and Congress has long since gutted the social security system, replacing the money they squandered with worthless I.O.U.s. My sense is that for many voters, if you hear how wonderful a reduction is in insurance rates, voters will pretty much ignore the elephants in the room. Like social security, medicare, immigration reform promised by Obama, no budget for the past nearly 4 years, despite having a Democrat majority early on in the House and in the Senate, disastrous foreign policy, 900+ presidential orders, the list is too long. People seem more interested in where Romney banks and Andrea Mitchell and other fools (in my opinion) criticizing Romney for breathing, breathing too slow and breathing too fast. Voters are so entwined in trivial pursuits, they do not see the results of four years with an inexperienced, far left, eternal campaigner. Four more years of the same, but more of it, is not a satisfactory solution to a very depressed economy, a lack of the President's ability to work with the other side of the aisle and constant lying about small things, like the deaths of 4 Americans, "supported" by contract security and denied requests for additional security, based on the consulate threat assessments. I wonder just how that will be explained to the families of the slain consulate personnel, including the Ambassador's wife?

All lies. From your claim that the 716 Billion was a cut, to your claim that businesses cannot afford the increase. In fact, small businesses get tax breaks for health insurance rather than tax increases under the law. You've been watching way to much FauxNews. Notice how FauxNews doesn't even call out Romney at all over his lies about Jeep jobs going to China. They pick and choose news. From Fast and Furious (which was actually a handful of idiot republican law guys, who didn't bother to check Arizona's loose gun laws before crafting a stupid scheme which couldn't be prosecuted). To Libya, where their whole story is based on incomplete facts and hear say.

Already rates are not going up nearly as fast as before the healthcare law (which isn't even fully in effect yet).

Based on national averages. Rates went up 4% in 2012. Before this rates went up 97% in a decade. Sure looks like the Affordable Care Act is already controlling things.

      • Does ANYBODY think that Crazy Joe will be the Democratic nominee 4 years from now, after Julian Castro gets to put his pretty-boy face on TV for 4 years, after Hillary gets to regain her national political footing after Obama pussied out on Benghazi, or after Cuomo's multiple affairs becomes common knowledge ?....Sorry Joe, mental illness is NEVER going to be a valued commodity in the race for the White House.

My health insurance premiums are going up 40% next year- I will be paying approx $4800 in 2013 as opposed to $3500 in 2012 for myself and the wife. The company already provided the info to us underlings for consumption. Also deductibles and max out of pocket costs are increasing.

So using Biden's reasoning for why the Republican will vote for him in 2016 I obviously should not vote for Obama this year because of this ridiculous increase - correct Biden?!?

Bill Clinton cancels all his Obama appaarances on Biden announcing his candidacy for 2016.

He is not going to work for a team who can disadvantage Hillary in 2016 when for helping Obama, Obama will call her old, racist , haggard and did not do job really that well, Hillary was not transformational enough.

          Dawg Pound,

And here are a few choice utterances by his predecessor:

The Iraqui people will welcome us with flowers.

The oil will pay for the war.

          Reagan proved deficits don't matter.

What's your point? [When it was pointed out that less than 20% of Americans still supported the war in Iraq.]

Water boarding is not a war crime. [Tell that to the Japanes officers we prosecuted and punished after WWII for doing that to our troops.]

I'll trade Biden for Darth Vader any time; a good and honest man who speaks his mind vs an evil would-be dictator.
