Biden: 'When your insurance rates go down, then you'll vote for me in 2016'

Vice President Joe Biden made a reference to possible future political ambitions at a stop Wednesday at a restaurant in Florida.

A short while after an earlier rally -- where the vice president boasted of "being a good Biden" today -- Biden slipped into a characteristic moment, to the delight of DC's chattering class.

NBC's Carrie Dann, who is traveling with the vice president, describes the scene:

At an off-the-record stop at a restaurant called "400 station" in Sarasota, Joe Biden spoke on the phone with the brother of a voter who wanted him to chat with her Republican relative.

After chatting about the health insurance law, he concluded, "Well look, I'm not trying to talk you into voting for me, I just wanted to say hi to you, okay? And after it's all over when your insurance rates go down, then you'll vote for me in 2016. I'll talk to you later."

Biden is among the handful of Democrats included in early speculative lists of possible presidential candidates in 2016, at which point the former Delaware senator would be 73-years-old.

His viability as a candidate, though, might well hinge on the outcome of the 2012 election next Tuesday, when a second term for President Barack Obama is far from certain.

  • Interesting that not even Feisty (who has the inside track on first comments) would touch this latest gaffe by Joe Biden. If Joe Biden becomes our President in 2016, I am moving to Iceland. I thought it was a joke, but it's Halloween, not April Fool's Day. Joe thinks he DESERVES the nomination; he'd better ask Julian Castro, Hillary, and Cuomo before he goes too far with this pipe-dream.

Sorry Joe, you seem like a nice guy, but I'd never vote for you. I believe we need presidents who can keep their feet out of their mouths, it seems tough for the best of them, Joe Biden has a regular habit of munching on feet.

News for Biden: My single person insurance rates are going up $125/month in 2013, a 105.7% increase because of Obamacare. What kind of fool are you to say rates are going down. With this kind of policy, do you really think I would vote for you or any other Democrat that rammed this up our arses in the middle of the night? I will never forget Nancy Pelosi's asinine words, "You have to pass the bill to find out what's in it." The pox on you and yours. Everytime you guys do something, it makes me angrier and angrier.

Joe(bite me)Biden, what the hell is he sniffing? I can't really believe he is as bold as to have said that. The guys a blooming idiot. But I guess that I shouldn't be too sure, after all obama made it to the top. If I had a choice between obama & biden I don't know what I'd do. obama's a radical Marxist who supports the Muslim Brotherhood, and Biden supports obama. From what I hear from FOX obama is not going to make it, actually obama has sealed the deal, no one is going to elect a democrap for a long time.

Obamacare and costs: After living in Norway for 13 years, and experiencing the BEST healthcare in the world, I am so pleased Obamacare has been passed. When I moved to Norway I was paying $435.00 a month for myself and my 2 small kids. 13 years living in Norway we had excellent healthcare, no waiting time, no exclusions and NO expense! My kids were given check-ups, physician came to their school, once a month, and dental care once a month all for NO Charge.

After 13 years in Norway we returned to the US and healthcare premiums of $852 a month for me, my girls obtained healthcare through the university. I am now one year away from Medicare and I can't wait...

Now where am I going with this, my point is about costs, I have worked in the healthcare industry for several years and I can tell you that the reason costs keep rising is due to the huge number of uninsured people!

Hospitals have made arrangements with insurance companies to be able to write off the unninsureds unpaid bills, only problem is the insurance companies in turn increase premiums for those who have insurance.

MY FRIENDS, the reason rates keep going up is NOT BECAUSE OF OBAMACARE, it is most definitely because of UNINSURED PATIENTS not paying their bills!

Once a majority of Americans are insured, and since Obamacare has placed caps on Insurance company administrative spending (80% of premium income must be spent on care), THE MATH dictates COSTS WILL COME DOWN...

ALSO, through Obamacare, Medicare has an extended life of 8-10 years. Obama has saved $716 Billion (and an additional $438 Billion last month)cracking down of waste, fraud and abuse and poured that money back into Medicare to close the donut hole and give seniors FREE annual check-ups...

Also, I urge folks to read the article about healthcare in AARP, it explains how Obamacare will affect you... ALSO, everyone should log on to Obamacare.com YOU MAY BE ELIGIBLE for subsidies to help pay for your premiums.

FOLKS, there is nothing more peaceful than KNOWING you have HEALTH COVERAGE... you never know, you could be a victim of a serious illness, WITH HEALTH COVERAGE you'll be able to fight the disease instead of worrying about keeping your home....

THANK YOU PRESIDENT OBAMA...

Right...read the article about healthcare in AARP...they sold out ever senior citizen who is a member. They are two faced as can be. Read the fine print: it says that AARP does not endorse insurance plans yet their ads repeatedly say that it's the plan endorsed by AARP. They lined their pockets and are now the Association Against Retired People.

No one disagrees that the uninsured are part of the rising medical costs. But don't forget, the hospitals are doing their part to drive up the costs. Look what they charge for their services. And most of that goes to profit. If not, you wouldn't see so many hospital chains and expansions. They are doing this for a reason. It's very profitable.

But Obama care isn't the answer. A streamlined version maybe. But all of the junk that is included in the law, more than 2000 pages of junk will make the costs go up. Obamacare needs to be taken off the books and a new plan that makes sense should be written to replace it. I'm sure somewhere in the 2000 pages of Obamacare there are a few good things. Obamacare was written by bureaucrats working uncontrolled.

My clinic has just posted a notice that Medicare patients will no longer be accepted. Obamacare will bring our health care to a screeching halt. Not enough doctors, not enough money, not enough administraters. They were prepared in one way - included $ for additional IRS investigators to go after the money. Yes, we need national health care, but Obamacare is not it. More planning, more thought. You forgot to mention the tax rate in Norway to pay for this excellent care. Are Americans prepared to pay for this kind of care?

Why on earth is your clinic going to stop accepting Medicare payments? Where I work, patients with Medicare are golden. Medicare actually pays promptly and very well.

does anyone on here have individual health care? If so what do you pay a month. I am just curious, my husband and I shopped for a new policy and I just wanted to compare rates with others. We both work for small business and had to get our own plan.

Perfect timing as my company just began open enrollment for healthcare for 2013. For the 3rd straight year, my rates have gone up AND my coverage has gone down! I'm 45 yrs old and NEVER in my working career have I ever had both happen in the same year (now it's happened 3 yrs in a row). I'm a middle class American who for the first time in my life has had to consider whether or not to go to the Dr when I'm hurt or sick because I can't afford it anymore.

MMTR: I work for a small business. I was told by our broker that the insurance company had told her that the insurance rates for small businesses will most probably increase by 40%+ in 2014. We were told we could keep our insurance if we liked it....that's a big joke. No one will be able to afford it. We will soon all have $10,000 deductibles because that is all anyone will be able to afford. Sad.

Friday's job report is coming folks and its not going to be pretty. On another note, I actually like Joe Biden. He's a straight shooter and frankly he makes me laugh out loud at some of his comments. I was impressed by his knowledge in the debate against Paul Ryan. I am voting for Romney/Ryan this year though because it is way past time for a change. I work in the small business world and along with the rest of the business world, we are dying under the increased cost of all the regulations mandated by this administration. Its nothing personal at all. Its just a business decision for me.

I just wanted to mention. I noticed your comment about healthcare. Look into United Healthcare. My husband and I both work for a small business and had to get our own plan. They have good benefits and really not to bad of premium. Look into it. Our premium is only 349.00 per month family of 3. That does include some co-pay Dr. visits, along with accident coverage. I was pleasantly surprised.

"And after it's all over when your insurance rates go down, then you'll vote for me in 2016".

Insurance companies are already jacking up premiums in preparatin for ObamaCare. What makes you think they'll go down? There's no incentive for them to reduce premiums.

Biden makes Reagan's lapses in memory look comical. I shudder to think of Biden being president. The USA would really be a third class country then.
