Beginning to return to the trail after Sandy: Romney campaigns in Florida… But Obama stays off the trail to inspect the damage in Atlantic City with Gov. Christie… Reading the body language with six days to go… Chrysler, GM push back against the Romney campaign… Will the Super PACs move the needle?... Or will the Obama campaign have gotten the bigger bang for its buck?
Mitt Romney resumes a full campaign schedule Wednesday in Florida after taking a break Tuesday to encourage storm donations to the Red Cross. Meanwhile, President Obama will spend another day focused on Sandy recovery efforts. NBC's Chuck Todd reports.
*** Returning to the trail: With just six days until Election Day, we begin to see a return to the campaign trail. Mitt Romney stumps in the battleground of Florida, while Joe Biden also is in the Sunshine State, Bill Clinton hits Iowa, and Paul Ryan visits Wisconsin. But President Obama remains off the trail -- he instead inspects the damage from Sandy with New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie in Atlantic City at 1:00 pm ET. (Who would have ever thought that it would be Obama, and not Romney, spending time with Christie in the last week of the election? What a picture that will be today.) With Obama in New Jersey, Romney’s return to the campaign trail is a bit tricky. “The former Massachusetts governor must show respect for the superstorm’s casualties all along the Eastern Seaboard,” the AP writes. “But Romney can ill afford to waste a minute of campaign time, with the contest virtually deadlocked in several key states.” And here is something to chew on: Given how close this election is, it won’t be surprising if the losing side ends up blaming Sandy, whether it’s fair or not. You could argue that Sandy has both elevated the president and stopped the momentum narrative for Romney. But you could also contend that Sandy has kept the president off the campaign trail for at least three days. Just like Kerry partisans blamed bin Laden video in ’04, Bush folks blamed the DUI story in ’00 and McCain folks blamed Lehman collapse in ’08, Sandy will get the blame from the losing side, period.
*** Reading the body language: So who is ahead in this presidential contest? If you look at the national polls (Pew, NPR, New York Times/CBS), it’s a dead heat. If you look at the key battleground-state polls -- like today’s New York Times/CBS/Quinnipiac surveys of Ohio, Florida, and Virginia -- then you see that Obama is slightly ahead in the pursuit of 270 electoral votes. But if you look at the campaigns’ body language, it’s hard not to conclude that Romney’s folks believe they are behind, at least when it comes to Ohio. And if they believe Ohio is the “be all, end all,” then they are behind. For starters, as we wrote yesterday, the Romney camp likely doesn’t air these Jeep ads if it’s winning the Buckeye State. And now you have GM and Chrysler pushing back against the campaign (see below). In addition, Romney is campaigning in Florida (today) and Virginia (tomorrow), which are two states he HAS to win and two states that two weeks ago seemed to be trending ever-so-slightly to Romney. Finally, all of this talk about expanding the map to Michigan, Minnesota, and Pennsylvania perhaps suggests a campaign looking for new routes to 270, especially with Romney trailing in Ohio per most polls. Yes, polls are closing in all three states. But if there was a concerted effort to put the three on the map, where was Romney campaign three months ago? Where were the outside groups SIX months ago? (Yes, we know American Future Fund has been alone in Minnesota for weeks, and they do potentially deserve credit on the GOP side for keeping the state close, but we digress.) It’s likely that both campaigns’ spin is right: Momentum has closed the race in the Lean Dem states, but Obama’s Ohio firewall also seems to be holding up.
*** Chrysler, GM push back against Romney campaign: Have the Romney campaign’s controversial Jeep ads (on TV and radio) backfired? Well, it’s never a good development when the automakers are pushing back against the Romney camp. The New York Times: “‘The ad is cynical campaign politics at its worst,’ Greg Martin, a spokesman for General Motors, said in an interview late Tuesday. ‘We think creating jobs in the U.S. and repatriating profits back in this country should be a source of bipartisan pride.’ General Motors was pulled into the fray on Tuesday after Mr. Romney began running a new radio advertisement in which an announcer says, ‘Barack Obama says he saved the auto industry, but for who, Ohio or China?’” Also: “In an e-mail to employees on Tuesday, Chrysler’s executive, Sergio Marchionne, said that Jeep’s commitment to the United States was unequivocal. ‘I feel obliged to unambiguously restate our position: Jeep production will not be moved from the United States to China,’ he wrote. ‘It is inaccurate to suggest anything different.’” Question: Would the Romney camp have aired these ads if they knew they would get this kind of pushback? This goes back to our body language point above: These ads suggest that the Romney NEEDED to do something to change the political dynamic in Ohio.

*** Will the Super PACs move the needle? A week from now, we’ll have a true test case about the power of Super PACs in this presidential election. Out of the whopping $127.5 million being spent on advertisements in the final week of this race, Team Romney has a nearly 2-to-1 advantage over Team Obama, $82.9 million to $44.6 million. While the Obama campaign is the largest single advertiser this week, the Republican Super PACs are more than making up the difference. Here’s the breakdown: Obama $34.2 million, Romney $29.1 million, American Crossroads $24.1 million, Restore Our Future $17.4 million, Priorities USA Action $10.1 million, RNC $3.5 million, Americans for Job Security $2.2 million. Will that GOP advantage -- fueled by the Super PACs -- move the needle? Or are the battleground states already fully saturated in TV ads? We’ll find out Tuesday night. By the way, to put this week’s $127.5 million in perspective, Bush and Gore in 2000 had a COMBINED $136 million to spend in the general election (after the conventions).
*** Or will the Obama camp have gotten the better bang for its buck? But don’t forget this very important caveat: Because Super PACs have to pay a higher advertising rate and because the Obama camp has been maximizing its ad spending, the difference in actual advertising spots and points is likely much narrower and probably close to even. In fact, this might be the biggest underreported story of this election cycle. (NBC’s ad trackers say that the outside groups get about half, if not a third, of the per-dollar points that the candidates do.) To date, nearly $1 billion -- $951.9 million, to be exact -- has been spent on the presidential contest in the general election. Team Romney has outspent Team Obama, $559.1 million to $392.8 million. The largest advertisers: Obama $329 million, Romney $208 million, Restore $87 million, American Crossroads $87 million, Crossroads GPS $63 million, Priorities $57 million, Americans for Prosperity $46.5 million, RNC $29 million, Americans for Job Security $12.5 million, American Future Fund $7.8 million, NRA $5.1 million, Concerned Women $4.8 million.
*** Storm wreaks havoc on election preparations: States and local municipalities up and down the East Coast are having to adjust after Hurricane Sandy brought devastation leaving more than million people still without power. Where some of the biggest impact of the storm was felt – the Jersey Shore, they don’t even have power in the clerk’s office in Ocean County, they are having trouble reaching polling location leaders because so many don’t have power, and many roads remain impassable making it difficult to check on whether those locations are flooded and usable for Election Day. Officials said they’ll have a better idea in five or six days, and we’re just six days from Election Day now. Like in other states, they are extending early voting hours. In New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut, there are concerns about what to do about flooded locations designated for polling, and coastal counties are struggling to assess whether power outages might force changes to polling locations. In Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia, early voting was canceled for a second day, but like in New Jersey will be extended starting tomorrow in some places. For a full wrap, check out NBCNews.com’s Tom Curry’s story here.
*** On the trail: Obama inspects the hurricane damage in Atlantic City, NJ at 1:00 pm ET… Romney, in Florida, holds rallies in Tampa (with Senate candidate Connie Mack) at 11:10 am ET and in Miami (with Marco Rubio) at 2:20 pm ET… Bill Clinton stumps for Obama in Iowa, hitting Council Bluffs, Mason City, and Waterloo… Joe Biden is in Florida… Paul Ryan is in Wisconsin… And Ann Romney visits Ohio.

At last count Willard has refused 14 times to come clean on his desire to privatize FEMA.
This should come as NO surprise given how he conducts himself when the going gets tough & his
citizens require immediate assistance;
Thankfully the residents of Greenfield weren’t bombarded with unsoliticed canned goods!
Ask yourself this, how a man who couldn't be bothered to assist his OWN state is fit to oversea 49 more?
His actions are not the sign of a leader, but rather a sociopath who couldn't care less...
Don't be Tricked into Romnesia!
What I Learned About Mitt Romney:
The 2012 campaign cycle is quickly coming to an end and to be honest, I'm happy about that. The high points were exhilarating and the low points were exhausting. As I look back over the past two years, I ask myself, "What have I learned about Mitt Romney?"
1. Willard doesn't seem to care about women. He did not support the Lilly Ledbetter Act for equal pay for women. Additionally he supports Senate candidate Richard Mourdock who opposes a woman's right to get an abortion even in cases of rape.
2.He dislikes 47% of American voters as he believes they are dependent on government subsidies. Never mind that Medicare and Social Security are benefits that workers paid into their entire working life. Romney believes seniors, veterans, and soldiers are lazy.
3.Mitt is insensitive to plight of Americans who become the victims of natural disasters like Katrina and now Sandy. It was not a gaffe or a misspoken thought; he clearly stated that FEMA should be eliminated. Now he won't comment on what he said in a 2011 debate.
4.As a Bain CEO, Romney was more into profits than people. He outsourced thousands of jobs to China, leaving American workers without healthcare benefits, their pension, or their job.
5.Willard was caught flip-flopping on hundreds of issues, but the one thing he remained constant on was keeping secret his personal taxes. He was not forthright on his holdings in the Cayman Islands, Bermuda, and Switzerland. Without question, he has something to hide.
6.Willard also has no empathy for the Hispanic population. He did not support President Obama's executive order to allow young immigrants to remain in this country. Instead he supported self-deportation.
7.In the closing days of the campaign Romney tried to tell Ohio workers that Jeep was sending production jobs back to China. Chrysler responded that the charge is untrue, but the Romney team would not be bothered by facts and continued to spread that lie.
8.It became apparent that Romney has no core beliefs. He will say anything to anyone just to get a vote.
It has become clear that from Romney's eyes, it is not about America being first; it is about the greed of the 1% being first. It is hard to believe that anyone would vote for this empty soul.
At the last debate, Gov. Romney just endorsed president Obama; now Gov Christie is also throwing his hat behind the president.
So the only people left supporting romney are the southern states who are voting strictly by racial lines and fear of the change...the southern states have brought Romney back from 40% to about 48~49% in the General Election polls.
But this election is state by state, and now matter how much the repubs run up the number in the south, it's not enough to have them carry Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Nevada.... or possibly even florida.... Good luck guys...

I know how much lefty liberals love the Old Europe socialist countries and their biggest wish is to make America just like them. Especially France, a lefty liberal nirvana with its socialist President and his promises of a 75% tax rate on the “rich”. As I’ve said before, if the lefty liberals want America to be more like socialist Old Europe, then they will have to accept the accompanying high unemployment and slow economic growth:
France Can’t Compete With Rest of Europe: WTO Chief

France is uncompetitive not only versus China, but against the rest of Europe, according to Pascal Lamy, director general of the World Trade Organization.
“The competitiveness of France on foreign markets has been damaged for the last 10 years. This is nowhere more obvious than in Europe, where France has lost market share for the last 10 years,” said Lamy in an exclusive interview with CNBC in Paris.
“The place where the trade balance of France has deteriorated the most is within Europe, where conditions of competition are roughly level. So contrary to what I hear from time-to-time, they are probably not [struggling because of] China.”
Lamy said that in the short term France must become more cost competitive by cutting taxes on businesses “so they regain a bit of margin for maneuver.”
France’s socialist government under President Francois Hollande is due to outline measures to boost competitiveness on November 6.
However, the government has already detailed plans to increase, rather than decrease, taxes on big companies as part of its 2013 austerity budget, which aims to tackle France’s crippling deficit.
On Sunday, around 100 French business executives made a joint appeal in a French newspaper to cut payroll taxes by 30 billion euros ($38.8 billion).
Having met with Hollande earlier on Monday, Lamy told CNBC that the President was aware of the need for labor and product market reforms in France.
“I think the French President and the government of the Republic are aware deep reforms have to take place in order to modernize this country, which has a resistance to change stemming from the fact that most of the French see the place as a very happy one, surrounded by a terrible world.”
CHRYSLER JEEP AND G.M. ARE FIGHTING BACK AGAINST ROMNEY'S TELEVISION AND RADIO AD LIES IN OHIO:
Romney's new radio ads ramps up the lie, that Chrysler is moving its Jeep production from the U.S. to China.
In an email to employees, Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne refutes Romney, "I feel obliged to unambiguously restate our position: Jeep production will not be moved from the United States to China.
North American production is critical to achieving our goal of selling 800,000 Jeep vehicles by 2014. In fact, U.S. production of our Jeep models has nearly tripled (it is expected to be up 185%) since 2009 in order to keep up with global demand. We also are investing to improve and expand our entire U.S. operations, including our Jeep facilities. The numbers tell the story...
Jeep assembly lines will remain in operation in the United States and will constitute the backbone of the brand. It is inaccurate to suggest anything else". And "This will never change."
Spokesman Greg Martin at General Motors: "We've clearly entered some parallel universe during these last few days. No amount of campaign politics at its cynical worst will diminish our record of creating jobs in the U.S..."
Lying about GM and Chrysler in court is risking perjury charges and jail time. And what of Romney's future credibility with America's Auto Industries?

Feisty,
As you say, at the pseudo "storm relief" event yesterday, Romney refused numerous times to answer questions about FEMA.
Mitt Romney has firmly pledged to abolish FEMA "absolutely". Campaign spokesperson Henneberg confirmed on Monday that Romney still believes that disaster relief should be in the hands of the states.
Really, what Romney would like is for FEMA to be privatized = You Are On Your Own In A Disaster.
Way to bash the French there, Joe. According to https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/rankorder/2102rank.html, French life expectancy is 15th in the world, while ours is 51st. Sucks to be the French, huh? Who here is talking about a 75% tax rate on anybody?
Lying about GM and Chrysler in court is risking perjury charges and jail time.

Romney's Non-campaign Hurricane Relief Rally??At Mitt Romney's hurricane relief rally yesterday, they played the Mitt documentary video from the GOP Convention but, hey, it was not a campaign event, it was a hurricane relief effort. Sure it was. While I give credit to Romney for collecting food and other items for the victims of Hurricane Sandy, one wonders why no one on the Romney team, including Romney, bothered to check with the American Red Cross or the Salvation Army or other aid organizations to ask what help was needed. The American Red Cross and the Salvation Army, after hurricanes, tornadoes, earth quakes, wild fires, floods, tsunamis have always requested monetary donations not food or anything else. It saves the organizations both money, manpower, transportation costs and time in rushing assistance to devastated areas. If Mitt Romney had ever given money or other assistance to groups for disaster aid, other than his Mormon church, he would have known that.
Grouchy McCain. Senator McCain went on a rant yesterday, while (not) campaigning for Mitt Romney and made the usual republicans accusations against President Obama and his Administration over Benghazi. He said the families deserved to know the answers. Apparently, Grouchy, has no qualms about ignoring Ambassador Steven's families request to keep the deaths out of the election, ignoring their requests to let the investigation continue outside the arena of presidential politics. Once there was a senator named McCain who I respected. Occasionally the respected McCain surfaces but more often than not, the Senator McCain of today has become an angry, bitter, resentful man--not just because President Obama defeated him but because George W. Bush defeated him. How sad to see the respected man named McCain become an old man yelling at clouds.
Lawrence O'Donnell Rewrites the Des Moines Register Endorsement of Romney. Having written, probably far too lengthy to be published, an editorial letter to the Register myself asking them which Mitt Romney they had endorsed with a long list of choices, O'Donnell's rewrite last night was music to my ears. O'Donnell took their 2008 endorsement of Obama and point by point proved why their choice of Romney made zero sense. As he said, the last republican the Register endorsed was Richard Nixon in 1972--the crook; now the Register endorsed a liar.
Yesterday 3 mannequins on Fox questioned Christie's favorable comments about Obama's response to NJ's needs during Sandy, asking whether he thought it would hurt Republicans' political efforts. Christie snapped back that at the moment he was not concerned about politics, and that if the mannequins thought otherwise then, "You don't know me as well as you think!"
Never thought I'd see the day when I was proud of Christie for putting partisan politics aside. Romney could never have done this. Nor could the RWNJs who post here.
Christie will likely be drummed out of the Republican Party. Maybe he'll start a new party that has some semblance of sanity.
Who here is talking about a 75% tax rate on anybody?

Last night, I was watching the History Channel’s mini-series “The Men Who Built America” and I was thinking here’s a Who’s Who rouges gallery of people that the lefty liberals would include on their 10 Most Wanted list.
During a commercial my thoughts wandered to the fact that you don’t see or hear much of anything about the occupants of the OWS clown car anymore. As far as I know and this goes back to last winter, my local band of OWS-er’s only have a small storefront they rent. My guess is it’s only used by a few of the hard core hippies to get together, smoke a couple of joints and reminisce about the “good old days” last year.

The East Coast is devastated, clean-up has begun, thousands are homeless, and our President forges forward to assist. Romney on the other hand, seeing a fantastic vacuum in the campaign trail, begins stumping. Apparently his bus ran out of cans of Starkist, crackers, and spray on cheese, so there is nothing left for him to do but campaign.
The GOPTP continually cry for limited government involvement. Romney has shown us what that looks like - one day of canned goods distribution. Watch it and weep.
so as another day begins here and we see the typical hate and vitriol directed against romney.
as part of a regular request i would again ask that someone present an argument on why the president should be given a second term.
rather than responding as we all do here, anonymously, imagine that you are looking an individual in the eyes who has not yet decided on their choice for president. this appeal for their vote should focus on obama and his accomplishments which is afterall the best predictor of his future behavior. to the degree possible it would be interesting to see a positive message for the guy rather than the hateful message about the opponent.
i am most interested in why to vote for obama and not interested in why not to vote for romney.

He's a lying sack of ****. The truth hurts? :)
President Obama is showing the Nation what Great Presidents do. He sets aside his campaign in a tough race to care for the needs of his people. His concern is obvious. Look at the response from his "so called" advisories. Governor Cristy for example. He sees the strength and caring of our President.
And where's Romney? Still out on the campaign trail doing fundraiser and lying to the common folk. Do you really think that Romney gives a damn about those 47% who have been desimated by this Super Storm? I think not. "There not going to vote for me anyway". So let them die? And this man wants to be President> I think not.
We need a President who is for ALL THE PEOPLE not just his rich friends.
OBAMA IN 6 MORE DAYS.
Ask yourself this, how a man who couldn't be bothered to assist his OWN state is fit to oversea 49 more?
Trust us, we don't need him.
LOL, the ultra-extremeist-leftist-losers on this board never cease to amaze or amuse me.
Mitt Romney went out and did something decent for the victims of Hurricane Sandy, and all you do is whine, moan, and complain about it.
Obama refused three separate requests for additional security at our consulate in Benghazi, four (4) of our diplomats died as a result, he LIES about it repeatedly, and you pledge your unending allegiance to him.
Unbelievable. Simply, unbelievable
It's time to change the direction our country is heading in. Do you want your children thinking the same way as these Obama-Shama-Lama-Ding-Dongs? (i.e,; its wrong to help your fellow man. But, it's okay to allow people to die, and it's also okay to LIE about it later.)

Why was Willard wasting the East Coast Governors valuable time yesterday by tying them up on phone calls?
What the hell can he do other than get in the way?
Fiesty - the poll watcher manuel is an attempt at gross manipulation of voters. I am actually an election commissioner in my county, all poll watchers have to go by our county poll watcher guidelines (combined with our state's guidlines), they are not allowed to speak to a voter unless it is at the distance approved by the state to show candidate signs, etc; they are not allowed to ask for ID, they are not allowed to go near the voting machines, they have no real authority except to contact the local election office if they see an irregularity or clear cut case of wrong doing, they do sign in and tell the party/candiate they represent only to the election workers at each site, and all parties and candidates have to abide by the same rules. If anyone passes out anything differently or attempts to say this manuel is ok they are in a dream world and out and out lying. Voters in any state - you do not have to put up with voter intimidation by a poll watcher, don't stand for it, know your rights in your state and make sure you are not kept from voting by a person who has no actual say so in the matter.

...When you have nothing to run on, attack is the run you make. Sad, really.
Romney/Ryan with Christie at their back for a Strong America
You just did (get back to me).
Poor baby.
Bloomberg: "Thanks but no thanks Obama."
Romney/Ryan with Christie for a Strong America
Mitt Romney may be ahead by one point nationally, but President Obama leads 50% to 46%, in 12 battleground states... Nevada, Colorado, New Mexico, Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, Virginia, North Carolina and Florida.
Remember that polls in early vote States will diminish since up to 40% of people already voted, and Obama is ahead 2 to 1 in all those.
I said many times that the only reason of how Romney would win this election is if he LIES and CHEATS.
We already know he's a pathological liar.
The big question is... Why Romney a Ryan lie so much?
The NYTimes speculates that it is because the current set of facts about the world and the US economy are not sufficient to un-elect the President.
To win they would have to make things up to make them seem worse than they are.
There could be an element of this...
...their politics has placed protecting the privilege of elites over all other concerns and considerations.
http://ndn.org/blog/2012/08/why-romney-and-ryans-lies-matter
The President is leading in all battleground states, especially in Ohio, Virginia and Florida.
Florida? Thanks to Ryan's voucher that has scared seniors - Seniors don't really like Halloween and its tricks. Ryan is all Tricks no treats.
Look lefties, it doesn't matter that Romney is a liar. Oh sure, for those who believe that lying isn't a virtue, or that it destroys any semblance of integrity, it might be important. However, those who are voting for Romney don't care about honesty. They don't care about integrity.
What they see in Mitt Romney is a media-approved candidate, and as such he has credibility. Come on, think about this. You know he lies, but when have you ever seen a single reporter come right out and tell him he flips and flops constantly. Why is that? Isn't it OK for a reporter to notice that he's lying? Don't we want reporters who see obvious lies? Apparently not, and that's what makes Romney a winner for the Obama haters.
Romney has credentials. It doesn't matter that he is a liar. With his tailored suits, his Stepford wife, his Romneybot kids, he provides the imprimatur that Obama haters need. "Hey, I don't hate Obama because he's black. Heavens no. I'm voting for Mitt because Mitt's a good man. Obama just doesn't understand finance and he hates business and he's a socialist."
It's that simple. It doesn't matter that when a reporter does finally summon the courage to ask a tough question, Romney simply walks away, refusing to answer. It doesn't matter that Romney has not released a single complete tax return. It does not matter that he will not offer any specifics on his touted tax cuts. No sir, none of that matters. He has offered just enough truth to justify voting against Obama.
Make no mistake. A vote for Mitt Romney is NOT a vote for Mitt Romney. It is a vote AGAINST President Obama. That is not to say all Republicans are racists. That is not true. Many will vote for Romney simply because they will not vote for anyone but a Republican. However, what little we do know about Romney's plans tell us unequivocally, he will harm the vast majority of American citizens.
Voting for Romney is voting against your best interests. That's a fact.
To Feisty's post regarding the disaster in MA which Romney ignored for days, it was also reported that Mitt refused to send any monetary state aid, MA had a surplus, until he knew how much federal aid the state would receive. So, Mitt, let the citizens of Greenfield suffer while he milked the federal government which he claims to detest for every dollar he could get. What a worthless excuse for a human being Romney is.
Ron, anyone who trusts Mitt Romney might as well blow kisses into the wind because he is nothing but a bold-faced liar.
Backhouse, the idea that the Romney campaign ignores the smack down of Mitt's lies by Chrysler Jeep reinforces his campaigns assertion that they won't let facts get in the way. Trust Mitt? No one should.
This time next week we will all be very excited about the Romney /Ryan victory. It is going to be a shellacking that this country hasn't seen since Jimmy Carter.
Will you lefty liberals be able to stand it? I'll love seeing your heads explode.
LEAN FORWARD - it won't hurt so bad when you fall on your face.
David Walker - You get funnier every day. I am voting FOR Romney. My vote will be AGAINST Obama. Not because he is half white but because he is a miserable FAILURE as a leader.
California:
Obama is doing his job. I know we aren't used to it, but that is what he is supposed to do.
Christie is a perfect example of the future of America, as he is Romney's number one surrogate. This board of posters called Christie "HORRIBLE" names for the past four years....and now because Christie is a REAL leader, the left love him.

With Hurricane Sandy still lingering Romney puts out Lying Hate ads, when is this dirtbag going to stop with all his Lying & Hate !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So Joe Scarborough gets Axelrod to agree to shave his mustache if Obama loses MN, PA or MI; HOWEVER (and this is HILARIOUS)
If Obama wins either North Carolina OR Florida, Joe has to GROW a set - oops, a mustache (and as he described it, a BIG Freddy Mercury one! hmm, secret fantasy? I digress)
Later in the segment Joe SAYS essentially (responding to the question of whether or not he ever had grown a mustache) "No, but it looks like I will soon enough" (or something to that effect).
So I am left to laugh. Joey has seen the writing on the wall for a LONG time. But the big wet sloppy kiss that Chris Christie has been planting on both of Obama's cheeks is as good as GOLD as far as Republican endorsements go, right?
lololololololololol
As one Albanian joke would say - this is HILLLAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRYYYYYYYYYYIOUS!
Laughing my ass off at all of you Tighty Righties who are now in the final stages of grief,...ACCEPTANCE!
PS. Can't help but wonder if Joey S will renegue, though? MSNBC pundits don't have a great track record with facial hair bets (looking at you, Chuckie T).

Ambassador Stevens believed strongly that an attack was likely, and made multiple unambiguous requests for additional security in Libya.
In June 2012, the Consulate in Benghazi, Libya was damaged by an improvised explosive device. Stevens reported to his superiors that an Islamist group (Ansar al-Shariah?) had claimed credit for the attack. Shortly after that a British Embassy convoy in Benghazi was also attacked. And again, Ambassador Stevens requested more security forces for Benghazi.
Karen Keshap and Shawn P. Crowley, State Department employees, as well as Eric Nordstrom the State Department's Regional Security Officer, all made multiple complaints about the inadequate security in Benghazi. Crowley, had even apologized in an email for "being a broken record" on the subject of inadequate security in Benghazi.
In response to all these requests, the Obama Administration refused to increase security at the US Consulate in Benghazi, at all.
On the morning of September 11, Ambassador Stevens signed a three-page cable, labeled "sensitive," in which he noted "growing problems with security" in Benghazi. As before, he was ignored.
As a direct result of Obama's arrogance and incompetence, four Americans died! And now he is engaged in the most frantic coverup since Watergate.
Fisty and ALL you libs screaming about wanting to privatize FEMA are nuts. Do you honestly think that FEMA has a staff of thousands of people sitting on their hands just waiting for a disaster to react to? HELL NO! They have a plethora of private contractors in the waiting to respond. You know, private businesses that drop what they may be doing to go and get paid for going where FEMA tells them to. The utility crews that come from all over the nation, PAID to come. Debris cleanup, paid to come. and on and on. It is practically private business as it is. FEMA is just the coordinating body. Nothing more. So get off of it already.
And Tunde really?
Christie is doing what any Governor does when his state has a disaster. Thanking the president AND GovCo in general for their help. I hardly think Christie is going to endorse Obama and turn Democrat because of Sandy. Get out of fantasy land. Love the way you libs read between the lines to suit a "vision".

Has the Election Already Been Stolen for Romney/Ryan?
‘Mitt Romney has direct ties to voting machines (also see the report by Brad Freeman). His son, Tagg Romney (who wanted to punch Barack Obama in the face) and a cadre of former Bain Capital business partners are owners of Hart Intercivic, whose voting machines are used in all fifty states. And this is just one of the many companies with ties to the right-wing, which include Diebold, ES&S, and Sequoia. In 2004, Diebold’s Walden O’Dell promised to “deliver votes” to George W. Bush. His machines did, stealing what should have been a John Kerry win.
To this day, American democracy remains privatized and hackable. Nothing has been done about it. Theft continues unabated.’

Pigotry,
Romney leads in the senior vote in Florida.
Gee, so Chrysler wants to build Jeeps overseas. It must be those tax breaks that the dems are always talking about. Looks like Obama and Government Motors and the other Government Motors are in favor of them. I thought Obama wanted to shut down these "loopholes." We know this is true because, besides raising taxes, this is the core of his economic plan for the next 4 years (as well as getting more people on welfare to, as Pelosi said, stimulate the economy).
Of course, in reality, there are no such loopholes or tax breaks for sending jobs overseas. But, truth has never been the foundation of the dems.
And what the heck is Government Motors doing commenting on the campaign. They are controlled by Obama right now and know that he can really destroy them bad if he is re-elected, so what position would anyone expect them to take.
Job 1, as you say,
Let's spend some time spelling out President Obama's accomplishments.

Romney didn't want to hear the Red Cross people tell him that what they needed money, not canned goods. Romney loading canned goods onto a truck was a good photo op. Writing checks at home or sending money via the Internet does not make a good photo op.
Byrd at least changed when he realized the evil of the KKK, so drop the 'most racists are democrats' line.
Romney's pathetic attempt to diss GM and Chrysler has been soundly refuted by those corporations. Apparently, they are not moving all operations to China but recognize that, to be competitive in a foreign market, it makes sense for a successful American Company to think globally.
Kinda like Toyota and Honda having plants in the USA to make their products more acceptable to us.
Not suggesting that Toyota, Honda and all the other multi-nationals that have plants in the USA shut them down and go home are we Mitt?
Mitt, this proves you are just a member of the lucky sperm club and that your abilities to leverage Government Loans into personal profit has not made you a business expert.
Jody,
All the lies being told by Romney, Ryan, Rove & Co are setting an example of LIE LIE LIE no matter the cost. Some presidential example.
RomneyRyan's win at all costs approach in this election is the worst ever, for out and out deception and malicious slander against those who oppose them.
That the Auto Corporations have to respond personally, means that Romney has pushed the false attacks on the President to the absolute limit.

If Romney had a decent campaign and volunteer effort in Iowa, I would not be receiving daily robo-calls from Mitt, Ann, Paul asking for my vote because they would know I ALREADY VOTED, Oct 2, 2012! Pull your pants up. You just got caught with them down.
ca tom -- thanks for playing but no need to shout. we have our third poster that cannot explain why they believe obama deserves another term. anyone else want to try.
Havent you Obama supporters learned from history that using the tired retread campaign tactic of calling a candidate a liar never works? Hillary used it during the entire campaign against Obama has he lied his way through the primary season pandering for votes and still won. It was tried against Clinton and how did that work out. None of us voters pay any attention to screams of liar as it doesnt resonate. What does resonate is talking about your record and proving you have a history of accomplishments and a record you can run on.
David, so all of these so called racists just up and werent racists 4 years ago when they voted Obama into office and all of a sudden they said wow I just realized I voted for someone of color last election and I am a racist so I cant do that again. Sometime the desperation to justify a rational for your candidate losing just looks silly. In terms of voting against your interest since you seem to be so focused on that, can you explain why anyone who is poor, middle class, women or a minority would vote for Obama? Obama claims to be the advocate for these segments in our society but economically over the last 4 years these groups have fared worse compared to their counterparts in terms of income, poverty, employment etc. Wouldnt you think that if Obama was their advocate, these groups would have fared better? Wouldnt african american poverty statistics, employment and income rise against white people? I assume you dont include government assistance as doing better so wouldnt the poor and middle class be voting against their economic interest in voting for Obama given how little he has protected them (again assuming we dont count the free stuff he likes to provide to pander for votes).
Backhouse--is Chrysler going to open a plant in China to sell cars to Chinese? Can these cars be bulit in the US? Werent you critical of Romney for Bain shifting jobs overseas? There is no difference between shifting jobs in expansion and adding new ones that could be created in the US. Can you tell me Backhouse, how this plan is consistent with Obama's tax proposal to eliminate deferral on foreign earnings? Come on backhouse you can be honest and not lie right?
Job 1, as you say,

Oh, and yes Kirk, I think we would all prefer production stayed in the US and we were a net exporter, but that hasn't been the case for over 50 years.

(Sigh) Once again Romney proves to be his own worst enemy.
The so-called "Jeep Ad" is a sign of his desperation. He knows he has to have Ohio and he knows his own words and actions are killing his chances there. So, he gambles on a lie and when it is exposed, he stands by that lie like it was the Gospel. The Gospel of Mitt. A foundation built on shifting sands and contradictory statements.
The "Jeep Ad" has been thoroughly debunked. It's not true and Romney is through.
This race has turned out to be closer than I thought it would be. The President's poor performance in the first debate opened the door for the former governor. But the President came back and slammed that door shut, once and for all, and his mid-western firewall appears to be holding. President Obama will be re-elected and we'll all be better for it.
This President and this election, even more than 2008, will go down in history as the turning point in our nation. We are entering, not just a new age, not just a new beginning, we are entering the 21st century and the birth of a new world.
I'm proud of President Obama. I'm proud of his leadership and of the man. Barack Hussein Obama IS America. A combination of white and black, a man who worked his way from the ground up to become President of the United States. The most powerful man in the world. But he remains a man of compassion and caring. In part he erases our shameful past and gives us new hope for the future.
I'm sorry the ditto-heads can't see what Barack Obama represents. HE IS AMERICA! HE IS US! The best of us and the brightest of us and if we'd give him half a chance and a little support I believe we would finally achieve the American dream for ALL AMERICANS, regardless of the color of their skin, their religion, their country of origin or their economic status.
We'll win this election. And when I say "we" I mean "We the people..". November 7 will be the first day of a NEW America. A country equipped to lead the world into the 21st Century.
I stand by our President. I stand for America. As Lincoln said, a country "of the people, by the people and for the people."
Barack Obama is the embodiment of Lincoln's legacy. He is the best of us. He is the future. He is America.

Obama/Biden 2012
Skip: A well written post. I really enjoyed it.
I like the fact that Romney is going to Virginia to campaign and Obama is going to NJ. Its like going to see the destruction of WWII in Switzerland, instead of going to England or Berlin. Mitt doesn't & won't get his hands dirty.
Also Talk To The Hand, not to be critical, but Romney is going to campaign - Obama is going as a President.
Obama asked for donations to the Red Cross on all of his emails for the last 3 days, did Romney? I'm just asking. If you are a candidate professing to privitize FEMA - I would like him to explain that. Now! How does one privitize FEMA - you either have it or you don't!
Reddev--unfortunately for you its something I understand very well and clearly by your response you dont. It has nothing to do with outsourcing versus localizing as that only applies to services, retail or other nonmanufacturing items. When it comes to manufacturing its all about the lowest cost of producing and freight and nothing to do with localizing. In many instances, the foreign country will require production in the host country as a requirement to do business but it has nothing to do with localizing. Otherwise, we would always manufacture goods in the country where the goods were sold. Do you think Chrysler manufactures cars in Japan? How about Brazil? How about Russia?
Personally, I am fine with Chrysler manufacturing in China, I just want to point out that Romney's statement about the hypocrisy of the Obama supporters calling him out on Bain and then also not understanding that of course in order to compete in the global economy, you need to be flexible and produce where you can compete against foreign competition on sales price. But your support of Chrysler runs completely counter to Obama's tax proposal to eliminate deferral on US tax on foreign earnings as a way to insource jobs to the US. You are pointing out by supporting Chrysler's move that Obama doesnt understand global economics and how to create jobs.
I am waiting for a GOP robo caller to ring my phone.
I will say: "Give me 1 good reason why I should vote for that azzhole".
Their response should be interesting.
billybob -- The economic policies put it place has prevented us from going into a GREAT DEPRESSION. We are on the road to recovery now. The wars are being wound down and we need to do things here at home such as rebuild our infrastructure and invest in things like education and research.
These are all things the Republicans would not do. They would do the opposite. They would start wars, cut funding in education and research and ignore the crumbling infrastructure here at home while throwing money at Defense and tax cuts. No thanks, we've had too many years of those kind of policies and that's why we ended up with a destroyed economy and a destroyed middle class.
Clinton voluntarily gave up his license for five years. He is now fully accredited again. He paid for his lies.
Romney will pay for his lies by losing on November 6.
Skip, excellent post, beautifully said!

Joyce,
I guess you have never had to sit and miss work for Secret Service to protect a campaign rally, or several campaign rallies, for Obama? For any candidate to enter a tragic setting, you must realize the excess stress it puts on the region.
Obama should be visiting New Jersey, finally he is being a president; not a comedian campaigner.
Romney/Ryan with Christie for a "United" States of America
Skip, we gave him 4 years and how is that working out for the America you espouse? How have the poor, middle class, women and minorities fared economically over the last 4 years in comparison to their counterparts? It appears that Obama has made it worse for the very groups he claims to be an advocate for. What makes you think he is the best and the brightest? Sure didnt show it in the debates? How can you have respect for a commander in Chief who said "stand down" in protection of our troops and Ambassador and then lied about it for weeks? Do you really believe that Obama can now have the respect of any member of the armed forces or state department after clearly allowing these people to die without even trying to protect them? How do you have respect for a man who went to bed while they were dying and then left for a campaign event in Vegas the next day?
There are campaign lies to pander for votes that both Romney and Obama do quite frequently and then there are the whoppers and Obama's lies on Libya cant be defended and trump anything you try to paint on Romney
Putting politics aside - don't you think all of us on this board should donate to the Red Cross. It is easy to do online, by phone or mail in a check.
Google Red Cross and just do it. I did last night. Americans need your support NOW!
Thank you.

To finish implementing Obamacare. The process has begun to ensure that all Americans have access to health care.
To mend the fences in Congress and get us back to compromising with each other.
To continue to strengthen America's borders and ensure that those who have grown up in this country can be a legal part of it.
To ensure that all Americans, male and female, have equal rights and equal opportunities.
To continue to disengage us from worldwide conflicts and redirect our attention and our resources to people and projects and infrastructure here at home.
To search for existing as well as new sources of energy while keeping the environment safe for those who have to live in it.
That is but a start. How about you, billy bob? What have you got in support of your candidate?
Good one, RedDev. Ole Kirk asks:
Seems he doesn't have a clue that Romney's spinning-like-a-top lying mimics Mary McCarthy's scathing put-down of Lillian Hellman: "Every word she writes is a lie, including 'and' and 'the'."
But more to the point, everyone seems to agree that this will be a very close election. How can Ole Kirk not be sure that the constant references to Romney's lying might prove to be the tipping point that sinks his candidacy?
Joyce.
Mitt isn't going to go to New Jersey unless he is invited. Even though he is a presidential candidate he has no business being there unless invited. I do not see that Obama was invited, but this is one of those things that a President has privilege to do. Hopefully he was asked or at least asked Christie for a convenient time to see the damage.
The whole reason Mitt went to Louisiana is because Gov. Jindal invited both Obama and Mitt to see first hand.

The storm does put Romney in a bind beyond his control. It's true that hardly anything he does wouldn't look "political." I would sympathize with him, canned goods and all, if he wasn't such a pathological liar and cynical opportunist. I'm hoping his lying Jeep ads and the push back he's getting from auto industry executives is the straw that breaks this camel's back. It kind of tarnishes Romney's "pro-business" image when he's aroused the anger of an entire industry against him.
Fielden--a much better approach to campaigning for Obama. Its much better to discuss the merits of your points than to name call.
1) All Americans currently have access to health care with Obamacare. Its not access that is an issue but the cost and quality. So the next 4 years are all about taxing the current recipients of insurance based health care to provide similar quality to the 15% of America that doesnt. What Obamacare does and quite frankly its intended to do, is to reduce the overall quality and quantity of benefits to the 85% in order to include the other 15% with similar care. Employers will begin dropping coverage and pay the fine and employees will be covered by exchanges. Whether the overall cost of coverage decreases is unlikely but the overall quality and quantity will go down for everyone in order to create benefits for the 15%. I dont know if thats good or bad and I am someone that thinks we need to move to a catastrophic universal care system but I dont think Obama has done a good job of being honest with everyone.
2) Wont happen under Obama has he is too much of an ideologue. He had his chance with Obamacare, Stimulus and deficit reduction
3) What has he done to strengthen the borders
4) Already done--only thing he advocates is payback to his largest contributor outside the unions which is the Trial Lawyers
5) Hopefully not at the risk of weakening security. Not doing a great job with Iran and obviously Libya creates a huge problem for him. His lies and failure to protect our people will have lasting impact.
6) I agree but he needs to only fund R&D and stop trying to be a private equity firm

Obama and you libs haven't been able to move the country foward for the last four years why would anyone give you another four. Face it, your policies and ideas are failures. They failed when Europe tried them, they are failed policies.
Romney will find in short order that LIES do not fly as well in true disaster weather and phoniness is magnified!
"Sandy" will not be the only female removing his lying carcASS from the scene .....
Talk to the Hand
Already knew that. He suggested people send money to the Red Cross during his campaign rally - uh - I mean his disaster "relief" event. The Obama campaign made the same suggested. On its web site. I'm sure the Red Cross will be glad of money that comes from people who support either candidate, or neither. They could have done without the canned goods Romney used for his photo op, though.
Photo Op: Romney Campaign Bought Supplies To Give To Red Cross Which Only Accepts Money
Team Romney not only collected Poland Spring, they went out and bought it.
Yes.
And that’s the point.
Team Romney took campaign contributions and used them to buy supplies — water, canned goods, and blankets — to use as photo op props, then forced the Red Cross to take them, rather than just taking that cash and giving it to the Red Cross.

By now the choice should be "CLEAR". MYTH Romney is a LYIN douche bag and doesn't deserve to be in the White House! His campaign is telling people they can vote by phone. The only problem with that is your can't vote by phone in AMERICA!!!

Obama/Biden 2012
What can we expect from Romney other than more lies. His is the most dishonest campaign I have seen in 44 years of following Presidential campaigns.
Romney lies again about auto industry. He fails the integrity test for President.
OBAMA/BIDEN 2012
@ billybob 6210632
I voted for Obama because he represents my values. I also feel that he's very skilled in negotiation and diplomacy and therefor well suited for the role of President.
DCIA--why do you think they were the most harmed by GOP policies? Were these same groups benefited the most under looser underwriting policies to create home ownership? Were these groups the most harmed by democratic policies creating low income housing clusters, no economic incentives for jobs, war on poverty, generational welfare programs? Regardless of whose policies created the most harm, you would think that Obama as their advocate would provide the most benefit during his 4 years but they have gone backwards? His economic policies have had the opposite impact of helping those who need it the least? Creating a robust economy out of a recession like both Reagan and Clinton did will provide the most benefit and Obama clearly isnt interested in going down the same path as both of these great presidents.
OBAMA 2012..this is to easy!
Jack, I never said the election wasnt close. I dont think calling someone a liar for pandering for votes resonates because both candidates do it. You prefer to name call and personally attack which eliminates credibility and I prefer to debate issues and policy. I would think Obama's lies on Libya and his attempts at cover up with create more damage than creating attempts at calling Romney a liar for Chrysler and FEMA because neither of those were lies. He never said he would eliminate FEMA as that is a creation of the NY Times and Chrysler he was embellishing an accurate fact that Chrsyler is creating jobs in China that very well could be created in the US. Thats no different than Obama's stretching of the truth on Romney's tax plan or his attempts at painting Romney wrong on oil and gas production. Neither resonate with voters.
.... KIRK, KANNIN, ZMAN - explain this one
YOU WANT TO BLAME OBAMA FOR WHAT HAPPENED IN THE MIDDLE EAST? Not to discount or disrepsect the American loss in Benghazi ... May God bless them and their families ....
THIS IS WHAT BUSH DID or DIDN'T DO ON AMERICAN SOIL ... and was warned months in advance ....
What Bush Knew Before Sept.11
"We were trying to figure out what they (al Qaeda) would do. We never had specifics about time, place, MO (method of operation)." U.S. intelligence official, commenting anonymously.
President Bush was told in the months before the Sept. 11 attacks that Osama bin Laden's terrorist network might hijack U.S. passenger planes - information which prompted the administration to issue an alert to federal agencies - but not the American public.
CBS News National Security Correspondent David Martin says the warning was in a document called the President's Daily Brief, which is considered to be the single most important document that the U.S. intelligence community turns out. The document did not, however, mention the possibility of planes being flown into buildings.
An agent in the FBI's Arizona office did, however, speculate about that, writing in his case notes about Zacarias Moussaoui that Moussaoui seemed like the type of person who was capable of flying an aircraft into the World Trade Center.
It was the observation of an agent taking notes as he thought about his case - an observation whose significance simply did not register at the time.
White House spokesman Ari Fleischer says that while President Bush was told last summer that bin Laden's al Qaeda network might hijack planes, he did not receive information suggesting that airplanes might be used as suicide bombs, as they were on Sept. 11.
Fleischer emphasizes that "until the attack took place, I think it's fair to say that no one envisioned that as a possibility."
The revelation about the president's security briefing comes as House and Senate Intelligence Committee investigators prepare for public hearings beginning next month on whether an intelligence community which spends $30 billion a year should have been able to provide a more specific warning in advance of Sept. 11.
The New York Times reports that an FBI agent in Arizona warned his superiors last summer that bin Laden might be sending students to U.S. flight schools.
Investigators have since Sept. 11 suspected bin Laden's al Qaeda network of masterminding the terror attacks on America, which killed more than 3,000 people.
Republicans don't want to see the bigger picture .... the middle east has been at war since forever ... the attacks on the embassy happened in the middle east .... Bush was warned and did nothing and they attacked us AMERICAN SOIL .... HUGE DIFFERENCE ..... do the math .... 4 in middle east ..... 3000 on american soil ... not to mention 4300+ dead and thousands of our young men/women injured going to a war based on LIES AND BULLSH*T by bush !!!!!
MIDDLE EAST - 4 KILLED
AMERICAN SOIL - 3000 KILLED .... YES REPUBLICANS EXPLAIN THAT ONE .....
MAY GOD BLESS AMERICA .... AND AMERICA VOTE FOR OBAMA 2012
As we all see. NBCNEWS has done little to fix the spam issue....
BillyBob, apparently you haven't been a reader on here very long (or you don't have any comprehensive skills) because there's been plenty of posts detailing all the 200 (and still counting) accomplishments under the Obama Administration. Those in itself are more than adequate reasons why to vote for Obama.
But I'll give you one that will prove Obama thinks of the Country first and not his Party: President Obama has frozen wage increases for Federal employees for 2 years now, despite being hammered by the Unions, and studies from the Bureau of Labor Statistics showing that professionals that work for the US government are paid 35% less than their counterparts in private industry.
BTW, if you want the 200 other reasons, here they are, but just as you insisted, I'll expect you to refute each and every one on these if you don't agree with any:
1. Within his first week, he signed an Executive Order ordering an audit of government contracts, and combating waste and abuse.
2. Created the post of Chief Performance Officer, whose job it is to make operations more efficient to save the federal government money.

8. The Bush-led Great Recession was costing the economy nearly 800,000 jobs per month by the time President Obama took office. But by the end of his first year, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act created and sustained 2.1 million jobs and stimulated the economyby 3.5%.
9. Not only did he completed the massive TARP financial and banking rescue plan, he also leaned on the banks and others, and recovered virtually all of the bail-out money.
10. He created the Making Home Affordable home refinancing plan.
11. Oversaw the creation of more jobs in 2010 alone than Bush did in eight years.
12. Along with Democrats, and almost no Republicans, implemented an auto industry rescue plan, and saved as many as 1 million jobs. Many are of the opinion that he saved the entire auto industry, and even the economy of the entire Midwest. This resulted in GM returning to its place as the top car company in the world. Willard Romney, on the other hand, advocated for the entire industry to go belly-up.
13. Doubled funding for the Manufacturing Extension Partnership, which is designed to improve manufacturing efficiency.

197. Signed an Executive Order creating jobs immediately by instructing them to reduce the time needed for review and permitting of infrastructure projects.
198. Signed a bill that provided $4.3 billion in additional assistance to 9/11 first reponders.
199. Signed an Executive Order pledging support for efforts to end the global problem of violence against women and girls.
And Did You Know?
200. Despite the characterizations of some, Obama's success rate in winning congressional votes on issues was an unprecedented 96.7% for his first year in office. Though he is often cited as superior to Obama, President Lyndon Johnson's success rate in 1965 was only 93%.
Guess Hecant
I haven't seen much common sense from conservative posters. You make such false claims when you say libs hate the rich. That the rich pay the lowest tax rate they have paid since the Great Depression is the result of failed trickle down economics.
The rich should pay more taxes. They have too great a share of our national income (24% now compared to 10% in 1980). There is too much investment money chasing too few good investments. This imbalance creates bubbles in our economy and is not good for our overall economic health.
Consumers have seen their share of national income decline. This helps explain sluggish consumer spending and high consumer debt. Our nation's growth depends on healthy consumer spending.
I do not hate the rich. I just believe they have used their connections to reduce their tax burden and that isn't fair. It is also not good for a healthy economy.
You are very misguided in your assumptions about liberals. We believe in a better, fairer America where hard working Americans prosper and the rich make their money by actually working for it, not lobbying for lower taxes.
OBAMA 2012....for a fairer, better America
romney-hood = AN HABITUAL FLIP-FLOPPER!!
http://news.yahoo.com/romney-faces-scrutiny-aid-storms-wake-070610337--election.html
Say anything to anyone to get elected eh mitt?
Wow, all of you libs are up early. Welfare checks coming out today? Sorry to burst your little lib bubbles but Barry is going to be sent packing next week. Better start practicing the following: President Romney.
Fielden, thanks and I agree. I have never said that Obama is a failure at every aspect of being president and quite frankly the only policy matter that I fundamentally disagree with him on is economic policy. My partner who voted for Obama in 08 is changing his vote solely for that reason. I dont have this myopic view that Romney is a panacea for all things economic but just view his policies as being better to move the country forward economically. The problem on this board is that there are too many Obama campaign volunteers all working for Jen and others. None of them want to have an honest discussion of policy. I dont expect all Obama supporters to agree with me either but the fact that none ever want to touch or even respond to those matters that are not in Obama's favor shows their true colors. So far no one has bothered to try and respond to Obama's proposal on eliminating the tax deferral on US tax of foreign earnings and how that is a job killer and inconsistent with Backhouse and others defense of Chrysler creating jobs in China. No one but DCIA ever touches the fact that Obama's economic policies have actually hurt those he claims to defend the most. You and I usually have respectful debate without name calling even when disagreeing I appreciate that.
enjoy halloween you moronic lib sponges. oct 31st will be the only time you will get a free handout moving forward.
Sigh. I will give you credit for one thing, Kirk. You tell the truth as you see it. That's more than most RWNJs do here.
But I will not give you one ounce of credit for being able to make distinctions between the pronouncements of a great variety of political candidates. That you would equate Romney's habitual lying with any other candidate in recent history is not only mind-boggling, but is indicative of an dull, non-inquiring mind.
If you didn't like my name calling before, you're going to like it even less now. You don't possess the intellect to debate issues and policy. (See above.)
Kirk & Fielden,
What a pleasure to see such maturity on First Read. Maybe Christie started a trend, that all posters can follow?
Romney/Ryan with Christie for a "United" States of America
Maybe if you liberals call Mitt Romney a liar a couple more times I will change my mind. LOL
When kids come to my house for candy I'm going to look and see how much candy they already have, those who have been out hitting the houses for a long time getting a lot of candy don't need more candy it's the one's who come out at the last minute and only go to a couple of houses who should be rewarded. - Can you guess who I will be dressed as?
Pat G
Your insults (lowlife lefties) tell me you know Romney is losing. You feel it slipping away, don't you. Generally, I can tell when Republicans are having a bad day, because they resort to hurling insults. The truth doesn't serve you, so what do you have other than name calling? 'Tis a shame.
Romney lies once again and you wonder why Obama supporters are out in force. We hate Romney's lying ways, his lyin' eyes, his lying ads, and his lying mouth. Let's face it. Mitt Romney is the biggest liar in a Presidential race since....before FDR. Maybe since Warren G. Harding and he was a crook.
OBAMA 2012
Blu--I dont think Bush was running for president last time I checked and the issue is Obama's handling of Libya. You are trying to say well if a past president was wrong its ok for this one to be too? Not a very compelling or winning argument or strategy.
Shaak--you know your statistics are wrong so why do you say that. The rich pay a higher percentage of the overall government revenue than ever before and you know it. Is the current system unfair and full of inequities and social engineering yes and they should be fixed but lets at least start with the right facts. Second, you very well know that the CBO report on income inequality showed that tax policy has nothing to do with it. Most of the cause is based on the education gap, immigration driving down wages in the lowest quintile, government assistance in the form of social security and medicare that transfers wealth from our workers to our wealthy seniors and the conversion of small business ownership to flow through entities that reflect income on individual tax returns instead of corporations owned by the individuals. Lets at least talk about policy without the hyperbole that inflames passions on both sides incorrectly.
Ok...now just the democrats.....
NAH NAH NAH NAH.....NAH NAH NAH NAH.....HEY HEY HEY.....GOODBYE!!!!
BYE BY OBAMA!!!
...
Logic -- To avoid getting into a circle jerk with you I'll keep it simple.
The policies that favor the rich can be found in our tax code.
Wall Street. predator lenders, and banks all played a significant role in the housing bubble. Many in government are to blame too. GREED knows no bounds. Their back at it too. Look to the commodities market now.
I love how JackIP puts down others intellect while at the same time never providing any evidence or examples to back up his B.S.
billybob-6210632-----
I voted for Obama for a second term because-------
The economy is growing and has been growing for close to 3 1/2 years. Though it is slow growth, it is growing and that is inspite of the best effort of the rethugli-con party hacks like Mitch McConnell, John Boehner, Eric Cantor, etc. If the rethugs had had their way I doubt we would be showing ANY growth.
When President Obama took office we were losing 750,000 jobs a month plus another 450,000 people were being dropped from the labor force. We are now adding jobs. Again slowly, again in spite of the best efforts of Congress (BOTH parties included). BTW-the formula this admninistration uses to calculate the unemployment rate was put into place during the Reagan administration.
We no longer have combat operations in Iraq. We are finishing up the job that bush started (legitimately) and bush neglected in Afghanistan. It is hilarious how the right wingers are up in arms about President Obama setting a date for total withdrawal but we didn't hear a peep out of them when bush did it in Iraq.
While neither President Obama nor Mitt Romney represents the middle/lower class here in America I believe President Obama is closer in his ideals and actions than Romney ever will be and I also believe he understands the government has a responsibility to it's citizens in times of need. I'm not talking about people living on government lagress but folks who, as in past five years, have been steamrolled by a recession they played no part in creating.
I agree with him when it comes to having the super rich pay more in taxes. They currently get way too many deductions unavailable to most Americans.
Before you reply that I'm one of the 47% Romney railed against let me tell you. I work full time, same company for sixteen years. I was drafted in Jun 1972, spent eight years on active duty in the Army, then spent eighteen more years in the Guard/Reserves.
There are others reasons why I vote for President Obama and there are many reasons why I wouldn't vote for Romney/Ryan. I hope this answers your post. As you can see I gave you reasons why, not reasons against Romney.
Shaak--does Jack's name calling rise to desperation? Look at David, Seeking Sanity and Fiesty or Jen above or Bev and her beyond ridiculous posts rise to desperation?
Jack--what do you think constitutes intellect to debate issues? So far you havent even engaged in any substantive debate on the issues nor have you once refuted any of my positions? Anytime you want to compare pedigrees lets go for it. Or is intellect under your definition not based on education and professional success and actual experience but on agreement with you politically?
FAVOR THE RICH?????? Have you looked at who pays what in taxes?
1% of Americans pay 35% of all taxes
10% of Americans pay 70% of the taxes
25% of Americans pay 87% of the taxes
50% pay almost all the taxes - 98%
I would hardly call that a system that FAVORS the rich. Just another B.S. talking point!

http://www.businessinsider.com/who-pays-taxes-2012-8?op=1
Kirk, just to be clear, you and I still disagree and I'm still voting for Obama. :-)
I feel, if anything, more strongly than you do about your candidate, that Obama is the right man for the job; that he has the vision, the policies and the capability to move us forward. Pun intended.
I hope this bipartisanship is catching, though. I like the reasoned debate.
Any man who constantly changes his knowledge as to receive public acceptance is not worth my trust.
fielden -- thanks. comments below followed by my reasons that romney is the better choice.
Obama for four more years.
To finish implementing Obamacare. The process has begun to ensure that all Americans have access to health care. (this is a reason for me to vote for romney. i am one of the 50%+ that is disappointed in this legislation. i am in favor of its many positives but reject what i believe to be the many negatives. i do not believe we can afford (now around $2T) this plan as currently is the law. legislative action to remove as many of the new taxes as possible; get the irs out of healthcare; allow the states to do what is best for themselves.)
To mend the fences in Congress and get us back to compromising with each other. (i have no confidence he will do this. in the first 4 he has done nothing except alienate. the likelihood that congress will continue in its current makeup does not bode well for your claim)
To continue to strengthen America's borders and ensure that those who have grown up in this country can be a legal part of it. (he promised immigration reform as a candidate in his first term and did nothing except process an executive order bypassing congress. no confidence he will do anything in a second term. i still have a bit of a problem rewarding lawbreakers but may be convinced differently)
To ensure that all Americans, male and female, have equal rights and equal opportunities. (equal rights of course, special rights no.)
To continue to disengage us from worldwide conflicts and redirect our attention and our resources to people and projects and infrastructure here at home. (this sounds a bit protectionist. i believe we should get out of conflicts to the degree possible; but not abandon our allies; directing our attention is a good thing but we must do this responsibly and not spend more than we have or can afford)
To search for existing as well as new sources of energy while keeping the environment safe for those who have to live in it. (renewable energy is a great thing but we cannot abandon our current energy sources; wind, solar and algae may all be viable one day but that day has not arrived; we have tremendous oil, gas and coal resources that we need to exploit to the greatest benefit; nobody want to compromise safety)
That is but a start. How about you, billy bob? What have you got in support of your candidate? (thanks for your response, we clearly disagree but we are doing so without any name calling or insults)
why romney?
exceptionally qualified with decades of experience in business and government that uniquely qualifies him to lead us out of this stagnant economy.
legitimate job creation strategies the put business in the driver's seat with the government creating the necessary environment which includes tax code revisions and reasonable regulatory guidance.
remove the government from the venture capital business -- that is private business responsibility when decisions are made that risk their own money and not the taxpayers. the government still needs to support research but mostly through universities.
has a proven record of working across the aisle as demonstrated by his record in massachusetts which i believe can be a preview of working with what most certainly be a democrat majority senate
make the right decision regarding defense. he has expressed clearly that any execution of hostilities is the last resort. that being said it still needs to be on the table as the big-stick.
i believe he is a strong supporter of israel. i believe his foreign policy ideas are correct and will restore america to a position of prominence.
put healthcare in the hands of the states.
put education in the hands of the states and local governments. no need for a federal education cabinet position.
that is a start.
Voted against increasing the debt limit; then supported raising it.
Campaigned against the Bush tax cuts; then extended all of them.
Promised to cut the deficit in half by the end of his first term; then proposed trillion dollar deficits.
Vowed the unemployment rate would be below 8% if his stimulus was passed; but then it broke 10%.
Promised shovel ready jobs; then admitted they weren’t shovel ready.
Said if you like your health plan you can keep it; but then threw seniors off Medicare Plus and employers are now saying they’ll dump people onto the public exchange.
Promised to have health care negotiations on live TV, but then reversed himself.
Indicated Bush violated the Constitution; then carried out warrantless wiretaps, indefinite detentions, secret renditions, quadrupled drone attacks, and kept Guantanamo Bay open. Voted against the Patriot Act, but then supported its extension.
Said lobbyists wouldn’t work in the White House; then gave them waivers to work there.
Vowed to take public financing for his 2008 campaign; then refused public financing when he realized he would receive more money without it.
Guantanamo Bay - Still open
Medical Marijuana - Said he wouldn't crack down but there has been more raids then under Bush
Gay Marriage - Against it, now for it.
Kirk -- It takes time to right a listing ship due to major leaks. First, you do emergency repairs to get you back to port. Then and only then can the real clean up begin and more permanent repairs be made to make the ship sound again. We're in the process of making those repairs. The damage was extensive and it takes time. You right wingers don't seem to understand how extensive that damage was. Case in point, your argument trying to compare this Great Recession to recessions in the past. That's just wrong. Read:
stop @ 1.32 said:"BillyBob, apparently you haven't been a reader on here very long (or you don't have any comprehensive skills) because there's been plenty of posts detailing all the 200 (and still counting) accomplishments under the Obama Administration.
BTW, if you want the 200 other reasons, here they are, but just as you insisted, I'll expect you to refute each and every one on these if you don't agree with any:"
the insult wasn't necessary. i may have needed some clarity in my question though others have responded. these lists are all over the place and i have no interest in responding. i would be interested in your personal opinion.
FEMA isn't very good, like most government programs. So, we could save ourselves a lot of money by closing it, giving the money we spend on it back to taxpayers and to the states, and let them handle disaster response. If this is what Mitt wants, good idea.
It's the old Democrat racket...because there's a need for something that means their garbage program (Medicare, Social Security, FEMA, welfare) is the ONLY option to address the need. If you want to help old people in retirement, it has to be thru their garbage Social Security program, if you want to help the poor, it has to be through their garbage welfare program, etc etc.
I recently saw Obama on the news, in the White house situation room, looking very presidential , and making command decisions. Regarding Hurricane Sandy! And I said to my self, I wonder why we (Americans), have not seen Obama, in the WH situation room, looking presidential, and making command decisions. When our Consulate, in Benghazi, Libya, was attacked, burned, looted, and four Americans lost there lives. Including our Ambassador, Cris Stevens, while repeatedly calling for help over a seven hour period. Then I realized. Obama, was not in the WH situation room during this vicious attack,on 9/11. He was in Las Vegas Nev., campaigning. And Libya, to Obama, was just a bump in the road!
No more for 44, one and Done!
zen @ 1.126 said: "I voted for Obama because he represents my values. I also feel that he's very skilled in negotiation and diplomacy and therefor well suited for the role of President."
thanks for the response. i respect your sharing about values, no one can challenge that.
i would however have to disagree with his negotiation skill. i believe he has not been successful in negotiating with congress around the obama (formerly bush) tax cuts and the debt ceiling debacle that as reported by woodward pretty much lays the blame at the president's feet. i had great hope for his foreign policy from his speeches before and after the election but i believe we have made limited or no progress.
Thanks Ron, thanks Jody. I appreciate your kind words. I've been trying to put my feelings and thoughts about the President into words for a couple of weeks now without success. I wanted to express why I am supporting the President without simply being negative about the other candidate. I wanted to make a positive statement about the man and the office and why I'm going to vote for him again. I believe every word, my thoughts, my opinions come from the very core of my being.
This is a pivotal election. I've said it is the election for the very soul of the country and I strongly believe it. That's why I'm voting for the President.
No snark intended, but I strongly believe the GOP has lost it's way and the path they want to pave leads to greater hardships and grief. If they somehow succeed in this election we are headed down a very dark road. That's why I think and what I believe and that's just one more reason shy I'm supporting the President.
Thanks again for your kind words, they are deeply appreciated.
Obama/Biden 2012
im @ 1.146 -- again with the name calling and insults?? you said and i will comment. i laid out my reason for romney in an earlier post so won't repeate here.
(the economy has not really been growing from everything that i have seen, GDP lower this year than last which was lower than the 2010 number; 20+ million still looking for work, fewer americans working today then when he started, housing still down, interest rates for borrowing great but for senior income bad...)
(stats are always interesting, but above i suggested that fewer are working today, i dont have a beef with this administration's bls but it may be time for a more realistic measure)
(your opinions are fine, i disagree; i do not see that setting a date at the beginning was useful; setting a date years after the start for action years in the future is different)
( we disagree but i respect your position)
I agree with him when it comes to having the super rich pay more in taxes. They currently get way too many deductions unavailable to most Americans. (the tax code is what needs to be changed, not enough money in the rich to do the job, the tax code starts in the house which has been dominated by the democrats for most of the last several decades; purely populist to hammer the rich; what deductions are you identifying that are for the rich only?)
Before you reply that I'm one of the 47% Romney railed against let me tell you. I work full time, same company for sixteen years. I was drafted in Jun 1972, spent eight years on active duty in the Army, then spent eighteen more years in the Guard/Reserves. (no intention of calling you anything, i think romney was wrong, i do believe there are many people that are exploiting the government for personal gain)
There are others reasons why I vote for President Obama and there are many reasons why I wouldn't vote for Romney/Ryan. I hope this answers your post. As you can see I gave you reasons why, not reasons against Romney. (yes you did, i appreciate that, but the name calling at the beginning lessons the value of your comments in my opinion)
thanks
BillyBob,
One term as governor doesn't equal decades of experience in government. And how does venture capitalism relate to being POTUS? Furthermore, 22% of the companies Bain invested in failed, while only 8% of the green energy investments made by the Obama Administration failed. (That includes Solyndra)
Those strategies are??? What tax revisions? How will he do this and decrease the deficit? Which tax deductions will he be ending? And why, since we've had the current tax rates for 10 years, will they all of a sudden start creating jobs now? Specifics please.
Again... 22% of the companies Bain invested in failed, while only 8% of the green energy investments made by the Obama Administration failed. (That includes Solyndra) I aggree with the research part, by the way. And investing government dollars is really the ONLY way the goverment can directly create jobs. Either you think this isn't government's job, in which case your claims that Obama hasn't created any is right on par with your ideology, or you think Obama HAS created jobs and over stepped his bounds. You can't have it both ways.
This doesn't mean much, unless the state senate at the time of his governorship was the exact equivalent of the congress under Obama.
Um, how is this different from Obama? Also, specifics? What is considered a last resort? How does this apply to each, specific country with their unique issues?
That's fantastic you believe that. See the questions above.
Like Romneycare, which Romney himself said could be a model for the nation? Exactly what's better about it at the state level?
Great, then any kid living in a poor state gets the shaft? We have different levels of education depending on where we live? How does that help us as a whole? Education levels of kids effects us on a national level, why shouldn't we have national standards?
See, all you did was make statements. The REAL case for Romney would be answering my questions.
Because you asked here goes....It isn't as comprehensive as what stopthecannibals has listed. These are the top 50:
Joe in Albany:
You Jokers like to use France as a punching bag when you get frustrated.
Read your history books kids. I bet you didn't know that if it wasn't for France we would be saying "Long Live the Queen" instead of "God Bless America".
The Republican party should be reclassified as a hate group. Romney is their head clansman....
BillyBob, the reason for the lists being 'all over the place" is because the accomplishments from the Obama Administration are all over the place. They all occurred, they all helped us out of a financial nightmare, and they are all reasons to vote for Obama.
Now, you say, they aren't in a format you like? There are too many? The accomplishments were in too many areas? WTF do you want?
You seem very much to be a person searching for a reason to justify why you want Romney to be President. I (and others) can't help you with that because he's exactly what's wrong with America right now. You've asked (quit late in the process), criticized those who do answer, and then blame Obama for the debt ceiling fiasco, which was attributed to, by every legitimate person to be a direct product of Republican intransigence. You appear to be a Republican Drone that would never change their mind.
stop -- let me restate: i am interested in your opinion, not the opinion of the media or any other source.
if you choose not to share that is fine.
i have already stated why i plan to vote for romney and have seen no compelling argument to move me away from that to obama. my idea was to see what is offered as good reasons by thoughtful folks and i have seen some to which i responded.
Feisty,
While polling station intimidation is a concern, I am much more worried about the voting and tabulation machines. All 5 companies supplying voting machines and proprietary software, openly support the Republicans. They are very easy to hack and if there's no paper trail, there's no way to check. It takes a lot of people to influence the result at the polling station level. It only takes one to change the machine results. Much more efficient from a business standpoint.
Imagine the Fox reaction if George Soros bought all the Voting machine companies. Heads would explode, it would take weeks to clean the goo off of the walls and equipment.
Time for me to get my Mitt Zombie costume on, and pick my little one up from school. Happy Halloween.
Robme liar looked like a fool by gathering items the red cross do not want as well as not answering one simple question about getting rid of FEMA.
That let the private sector handle disaster events was one of many stupid things this fool has said during the past week. Example Lying about GM and Chrysler......I mean DAM how stupid can you get.
President Obama 2012
Fielden--ha I wouldnt expect otherwise and supporting your candidate for the reasons you do is what makes this a great country. I respect those who say that they will vote for a candidate because of a specific policy or policies and can spell out or explain why. The simplest example is I support Obama because I want universal healthcare and think he is the right person. I also respect those who support Romney for similar policy based reasons. I respect less those who support one candidate because it benefits them somehow or a platform policy issue that is less impacted by the President. For example, those who say I support Romney because Obama is going to take away my guns or I support Obama because Romney is going to give me free birth control. Then there are policy issues in which the president really has minimal impact like abortion, gay marriage or even education all of which I primarily state and local issues although I would tend to be liberal on social issues. I really dislike those on here who just campaign and personally attack regardless of who they support. The Romney is a liar or people who support Romney must be idiots or refuse to ever reply with substantive responses just hide behind their anonymity. Compromise will happen much easier if we just accept that maybe each side has supporters with legitimate points of view. I might be for gay marriage or pro choice but I dont think religious people who vote for a candidate because they differ on those issues are wrong or bad just have a different perspective. I am not debating you to try and change your mind, I think we all learn if we actually listen to the experiences and perspectives others bring. For me the easiest example is my evolution towards gay marriage and the debates I have with my parents who are against it. As I have aged and have personal experience with gay friends and their lives and perspectives, I have changed my views. Same thing applies in the other way on quota based affirmative action. I was all for it when I was younger and more idealistic but have moved in the other direction as I have seen much of the negative impact in various educational and professional pursuits--not that I am against diversity but just quotas. Unfortunately this blog is filled with pure campaigners who have no interest in debate, critical thinking or learning.
@ billybob 620632
I'll admit that the debt debacle isn't a high mark on the president's docket. But even though the president was highly involved in that process he absolutely shouldn't have been in my opinion. The debt and the budget are the business of Congress and I honestly feel that the President should be hands off. Since he took part in the negotiations I'll admit that he shares part of the blame for failure. But since it was not his job in the first place I'll put the lions share of the blame on the heads of the houses of Congress.
As for the rest of his foreign policy the reports I've read show that the leaders of almost every nation would prefer Obama to Romney. Foreign policy absolutely is the President's job. Many people seem to see that as a black mark but personally I want the world to work together more and to be more united as opposed to more fractious and combative.
Of course he is inpsecting damage. His campaign was reduced down to silly name calling...Romnesia hahaha. Hey O'bama, care to answer any questions on Benghazi? No? Thanks for your transparency!
But you didn't finish....
1% of Americans pay 29.0% of all (FEDERAL/STATE/LOCAL) taxes, BUT EARN 27% OF ALL INCOME
10% of Americans pay 50.0% of all (FEDERAL/STATE/LOCAL) taxes, BUT EARN 50% OF ALL INCOME
25% of Americans pay 62.3% of the (FEDERAL/STATE/LOCAL) taxes, BUT EARN 75% OF ALL INCOME
50% pay almost all the taxes - 84.3%, BUT EARN 87% OF ALL INCOME (almost all the income).
The rich do get richer, especially in the last 10 years, and would only get more under the Republicans.
DCIA--you very well could be right. I lived through the Carter recession and this doesnt feel quite as bad as that where unemployment was higher and inflation was running double digits and interest rates were 20%. I just dont believe that Obama understands basic economic principles and spends too much time creating class warfare. Reagan and Clinton understood you have to create incentives for private industry such as investment tax credits, accelerated depreciation and yes lower tax rates to put the right incentives to get investment started. Obama's stimulus is much more short term and focused on giving money to the states to keep government union jobs, create green energy and provide short term tax relief. At the same time, he does so many things to kill jobs like EPA regs, stopping oil and gas exploration, Obamacare (regardless of whether its the right thing to do). He does things that are pro business and then campaigns antibusiness creating a ton of uncertainty. I think if he hadnt listened to Pelosi and Reid from the start, he might have been more successful at getting us out of the hole you mentioned but I dont believe it should take him 4 years and more and there arent any economists who predict anything more than slow growth under his policies for the next 4 years.
I think O'bama should have the O'bama girls perform in Time Square. Bill Clinton could be on the saxophone as O'bama does the old Potomac two step... It may tip the election!
I dont understand all of this angst by the Obama supporters over Chrysler and FEMA. At best they are inaccurate portrayals or Romney as a liar and at worst embellishments of facts. Chrysler is opening a plant in China with jobs that could be done here in the US and FEMA is a NY Times made up issue. I dont understand how Obama's lies regarding Libya isnt more troubling to you as the facts emerge showing he clearly misled the american public for reasons we dont really know but can easily speculate as politically based until he says otherwise.
StoptheCannibals--first tax policy has nothing to do with income inequality and should necessarily be based on what causes it in the first place. Tax policy is currently as progressive as its ever been in history and I dont think anyone disagrees that it needs to be revised to be fairly applied accross the board and maybe rates should be higher in the aggregate but not in effective rates. Second, the CBO provided a report that provided the largest contributors to income inequality that isnt going to be fixed by tax rates. Furthermore, because of the educationg gap(and which party is the barrier to education reform to close that gap?), if you control for cognitive ability at every level and reason, income inequality and mobility goes away. Single moms, minorities, immigration etc all have income mobility and eliminate the social environment problems that create income inequality when you have cognitive ability and education. Do you really think you fix that problem with higher government assistance? You dont punish those who have succeeded in our system because of those who by their own choices in life havent. You dont tie tax policy with the societal issues that create income inequality.

Feisty, you can absolutely forget about Romney coming clean about anything!
As the article says, Romney is behind and having trouble finding any way to get to 270.
Romney has told so many lies and "doubled down on dirty" to the point where people who used to support him have changed their minds.

How desperate is Mitt Romney? He throws GM and Chrysler under the bus yet again.
Do Americans want to buy Chinese made Jeeps? Romney hurts US automakers yet again with his false accusations. How many good Republicans will believe his lies and refuse to buy GM and Chrysler products?
Mitt Romney....destroying America one piece at a time....starting with GM and Chrysler.
Dear Republicans,
How can you continue to defend Romney's lies? Isn't it obvious to you yet that this guy is a lost cause. Why compromise your integrity further?

What if the kids that come early are the one's that spend more time out there, but fail to do their homework for school or any of their chores? Meanwhile, the kids that aren't out there long are the one's that made sure they DID do their homework and chores and THEN went out trick or treating?
Kirk -- The obvious difference here is the unprecedented moves they have made over at the FED. Not all of which I've been a fan of. May they prove me wrong though. Stimulus is what stopped the leaks and allowed us to get to port, so to speak. We are on the right track now, Kirk. Unfortunately, there's a global slowdown due to austerity measures around the world. Remarkably, we are faring better than most due to our policies. We disagree on green energy, even those in the gas and oil industry say we must invest in alternative energy. Your remark that Obama's slowed oil and gas exploration is not true. A simple fact check verifies that. Here are a few links for you to back up what I've said:

TODAY'S POLL SURPRISE - RealClearPolitics and new polls spell trouble for the GOP.
Virginia and Florida are now slightly Obama. North Carolina, Iowa, and Colorado are tied. Ohio is holding. There is absolutely no way Romney can even break 200, much less get to 270, without Florida or Virginia. This would explain Romney's need to be in Florida, where they were supposed to have it all wrapped up by now. The levee of Republican presidential hope has sprung some leaks.....The only question remaining: Can Romney even get to 200 electoral votes? and Are all those people in the little Red states really that much out of touch with what's going on? Shame on them...

(the economy has not really been growing from everything that i have seen, GDP lower this year than last which was lower than the 2010 number; 20+ million still looking for work, fewer americans working today then when he started, housing still down, interest rates for borrowing great but for senior income bad...)
@billybob,
Not certain what name calling you are referring to but.....
What you and your fellow cons fail to realize is this----Europe, the biggest importer of our products, is in a recession, including Germany, which had the EU's strongest economy. China's economy has slowly drastically. For our economy to be growing, even slowly, in the face of what is happening to most of the world is better than where is really should be. As to your comment about housing. You are basing that on a false assumption. You are looking at where housing is today verses the high point before the bubble burst. That bubble was totally unrealistic. I live in North Idaho. Back in 2002/02 small, 900 sq. foot houses sold for $90,000. A couple years later they sold for $300,000/$350,00. There was no legitimate reason for the increas. Now house prices are getting back to where they really belong.
As to the number of unemployed/under employed, we are going to have to get used to it. Technology is taking an increasing pprportion of our work, esp. as we become a more service orientated economy. This country now has a population of 310 million people and it is projected that we'll have a population of 350 millioon by the year 2050. I have said for thirty years now one of two things would happen: either the rest of the world would come up to our standard of living or we would sink to their's. I think the answer is pretty clear now. Companies are going to go where products can be made cheapest with the least amount of environmental safeguards. Whether you or I like it or think it's right or wrong, it's happening.
A couple months ago I read an article whose author said we, as a country, were very fortunate after WW2 to be in the position, manufacturing wise, that let us dominate the world into the 70s. That bit of good fortune was our manufacturing base, unlike almost the entire rest of the world, was left intact after WW2. It took the rest of the world three decades to catch up. I personally believe that all our military ventures around the world also helped our decline. While we fought in places like Korea, Vietnam, the Middle East, other countries like China, Japan, Taiwan, S. Korea, were putting their resources into modern plants, high speed rail, etc.
America is changing. It has become a more ethenicly, diverse country. That also is not going to stop. Get used to it.
Obama has been wielding executive powers this past year as if he were already a dictator. When Congress
is not doing his bidding, he simply bypasses them and uses an executive order to accomplish it anyway. This has set the stage for his disbandment of Congress.
He has been effectively using the media to anesthetize the public to the dangers he poses. Like a patient being prepped for surgery, people are numb to the changes and won't have a clue what took place until they wake up in recovery and realize that free America has been removed and replaced with a regime that may parallel those of Stalin, Lenin, Mussolini, Hitler, Chavez and Castro.

And now as far as GM Jeep's goes. You are at work and word goes out that GM is moving Jeep to China. Panic runs through you as you start to question your future. You start asking questions of everyone in sight if they heard anything. But Romney is saying it and so it must be true. He is even on TV and he certainly wouldn't be on national television saying Jeep is moving to China if it wasn't true. You start to worry that you will be laid off and what about your mortgage, car, education for your children, and can I find another job. It takes the CEO of Gm to come out and tell the employee's that it is not true. Romney is putting out lies. I am sure you still have mixed emotions, is the CEO telling the truth or did Romney tell us something that he knows is going to happen? I have been in this kind of situation of who do you believe and when the company you are employed at may move part of all of the operations elseware. These are some of the feelings people go through when the thought of moving a part of a company may happen. But when you have somone like Romney lying like this for political gain is at it's worst. People have enough stress and problems in their lives trying to get by without Romney bold face lying and scaring people just to get their votes.

Actually, the quality of U.S. healthcare doesn't have a lot of room to go down. After all, we are in the middle of the pack when it comes to quality of care and in dead last in affordability of healthcare. I don't necessarily like the individual mandate part of Obamacare; I'd prefer a single-payer health insurance system, or at least a public option. But it will deal with the tens of millions of uninsured people in the country (which does cost money) and hopefully lower increases in the cost of healthcare, although it will not be enough.
That is 100% wrong. Obama readily compromised with the GOP on practically everything. The individual mandate was a bipartisan idea, and he even watered it down to appease conservative Democrats and Republicans. The stimulus was also bipartisan, and Obama stuffed in numerous tax cuts to appease Republicans. He even compromised on deficit-reduction: while a Democrat like me would argue for a 1:1 ratio of spending cuts to tax increases, Obama offered 3:1 in favor of cuts, even to Medicare. He compromised his ass off; the only problem was that your party didn't want to compromise with him.
Look to the record numbers of deportations.
If other countries can offer subsidies and give grants to corporations, so should we. It's all about being competitive, and that sometimes means copying other countries. The Europeans are pretty damn good at subsidizing and emphasizing green energy and energy-efficient technology; if those bastards can do that with countries the size of maybe Texas or California, why can't we?
First of all, Carter didn't create the recession of the late 70s and early 80s; that was caused because the Fed reigned in inflation, which was in turn caused by the Vietnam War and the oil embargo of 1973. Secondly, asking the wealthy to pay more is not class warfare; it's math. You cannot balance the budget without tax increases, primarily on the wealthy but also on everyone else. And thirdly, it is the RICH, not Obama, who are engaged in class warfare. I would actually prefer class warfare; better there be a fair fight between rich and poor rather than a slaughter of the poor by the rich.
First of all, Reagan was an idiot when it came to economics. His tax cuts did not cause the recovery: increased defense spending and monetary policy did. And his deregulatory binge caused the savings and loans crisis of the late 80s, which led to the recession that took out Bush 41. Secondly, tax cuts for investments (aka capital gains taxes) have almost always led to investment bubbles (see Clinton's capital gains cut and Bush's). They simply increase the supply of investment capital without increasing demand for investments, leading to a supply glut and then a piling of capital into the few ventures, leading to bubbles that eventually pop. Thirdly, we had more growth with higher tax rates than with lower ones. In fact, higher tax rates can actually boost economic growth by creating incentives for people to reinvest money back into their businesses. And fourth, we have had extraordinarily low tax rates for the past 30 years, and growth has been slower than ever. In addition, income inequality has gone up (the top 1% control over 25% of the nation's income) and median income has stagnated, showing that this supply-side theory is nothing more than a gimmick to help the rich while screwing the rest of us.
But very few RELIABLE economists predict fast growth under anyone over the next 4 years. Growth will accelerate, but only naturally, unless the government either avoids the fiscal cliff altogether or negates its short term effect with stimulus spending. And by the way, Bush cut taxes in 2001 and 2003 and STILL couldn't lift the economy out of a recession, even the relatively tiny one of the dot-com bubble. Growth was sluggish and was only even moderately good thanks to the housing bubble, which popped in 2007 and 2008. If Bush's tax cut (the largest in U.S. history) couldn't get us out of a recession, how the hell could Romney's tax cut (which will be a lot larger) get us out of this depression??
And by the way, the only reason why the rich have paid more taxes is because they MAKE more money. The rich have made more money thanks to the failed supply-side ideas of the Reagan economic team, which rewards the rich and sends to the bill to everyone else. The trick of every tax cut for the rich is to justify it by saying that the rich are already paying a large share in taxes and that this will alleviate the pain. But every tax cut leads the rich to pay more in taxes because they control more of the shrinking pie, enabling the next administration to use those rates to prevent raising their taxes and maybe even justify ANOTHER tax cut.

ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!!
I see the Liberal bobble heads continue on here babbling their typical indoctrinated propaganda. The constant Barrack Hussein chair sniffing must be affecting their common sense as usual.
The incessant barrage of misinformation they keep spewing on here can only be described as desperation. The typical cabal of Chicago useful idiots keep believing their lies and exaggerations will make a bit of difference in the real world.
I just spent 10 hours campaigning and the enthusiasm for Romney is incredible in Southeast Michigan and staying very strong in Southwest Michigan. The youth support that helped in 2008 is virtually gone as none of the recent college graduates are finding anything more than low-wage/no-low benefit jobs, same as last year.
Independents are turning quickly as they see no relief in sight with the Barrack Hussein non-existent plan. You can sight all the polls you want but when you're on the ground it's a very different story.
Remember, the 200-300 repeat offenders that inhabit these threads are not going to make a difference. Your self-aggrandizement only titillates your self-delusion that Barrack Hussein is going to win.
Well, time to get ready for another long day on the campaign trail tomorrow, it's reassuring to see real Americans finally realizing what a horrible mistake they made in 2008 and will vote for real leadership with Mitt Romney.

Every election is always the lesser of two evils, unless you are an extreme-wing supporter.
My personal reasons for voting for Obama come as a result of the alternative. As it stands, our debt is crushing (I am guessing you would agree). As a side note, I do not attribute the total debt to one President, as it has built up over time. With that being said, my choices are a candidate who has not reduced the debt, and one who will add $7 trillion to it. Although I may not be happy with how Obama has handled the debt, adding $7 trillion more with Romney's plan will only make it worse.
Furthermore, the tax policy center has stated that the ONLY way Romney can pay for his plan is to remove ALL deductions from everyone (meaning my mortgage interest rate deduction), AND increasing taxes on the middle class. Will he actually do this? I don't know. But I am not willing to risk my mortgage deduction on the "hope" that Romney will not remove it to satisfy his own greed.
I can also go into details about the military men I know, putting their lives at risk, and finally being free to be who they are without fear of repercussion. Romney would reverse that.
I can also reiterate what prominent Republican Ben Stein said: That there is simply not enough to cut to satisfy the debt needs, and we HAVE to increase taxes on the wealthy, as well as cut spending, to fix our country. This type of balanced approach is not something Romney will follow.
I can speak to Romney's comments about stopping homosexuals from adopting. There are currently over 500,000 unwanted children in the system, and Romney wants to remove possible loving parents. Add his stance on abortion, which will INCREASE the number of unwanted children, and we have a serious problem. Given the FACT that 50% of food stamp recipients are children, we can not afford this . . . and I see his view as heartless.
That is a start, but my main issue is the $7 trillion Romney will add to the debt and the risk that he will take away my deduction and raise my taxes so that he can personally pay less. Without an actual plan to satisfy my fear, I have to default to the tax policy study that exposed this.
Bigdogg, re-#1.94, In '08 the phone was ringing off the wall with Union people, not a recording mind you, a real person ready to debate your political stance if you were not in support of Barack Obama. The mail box was stuffed as well. I even had them on my front porch." Vote this guy in and the Olympics are a shoe in for Chicago, yea yea I know,we were with Hillary but this' our guy now"! This election however, all is quiet, the silence is deafening. For some reason the Union cannot muster the thousands upon thousands of laid-off workers going on 2-3yrs. And they don't have the balls to even try! When Romney's people do contact you Bigdogg, try having an explanation as to why these workers are off under your boys watch. And enlighten them as only a Liberal-nutjob can as to why Barack Obama can achieve if re-elected what he couldn't do in his 1st term. I find it ironic that the Liberals call Mitt Romney a liar when that was exactly what the Obama backed Unions did to it's workers in '08 in order to get him elected! I don’t know where you get the $7 trillion figure. All the studies I’ve read report a $5 trillion shortfall.
What you need to understand is that the “revered” Tax Policy Center is not the true “nonpartisan” entity it claims it is.
Be that as it may, here’s the final statement of their analysis.
http://taxpolicycenter.org/taxtopics/romney-plan.cfm
Notice that their whole analysis is an estimate based on it being “static”. They never explain how they come up with their methodology.
Now, if you understand the TPC explanation you might be surprised by the CATO Institutes critique of it which actually gives a detailed analysis.
http://www.cato.org/publications/commentary/could-romneys-tax-plan-cut-revenue-$5-trillion
As an aside, if you’re truly concerned with the 500,000 unwanted children, the solution is not creating new forms of families to take care of them. The solution is to prevent creating 500,000 unwanted children.
The simplest solution is to totally reform our criminal Public Education system. We are graduating illiterates from our vaunted education system that has been progressively worsening since the creation of the Department of Education 33 years ago.
The problem is NOT money, it’s a massive bureaucracy that consumes funds that should be used to hire more good teachers instead of layer upon layer of administrators. We spend more on education than any nation, other than Switzerland, yet we rank in the bottom 1/3 to 1/2 of all OECD countries in math, science and reading. Most Americans read at an 8th grade level. Most Americans don’t know how to use—there, their or they’re—correctly in a sentence. Most Americans can’t calculate 30% of 450 in their head.
According to a 2006 study by the Goldwater Institute, Arizona's public schools spend 50% more per student than Arizona's private schools. The study also says that while teachers constitute 72% of the employees at private schools, they make up less than half of the staff at public schools. According to the study, if Arizona's public schools wanted to be like private schools, they would have to hire approximately 25,000 more teachers, and eliminate 21,210 administration employees.
Unions have been the biggest contributors to the collapse of our education system. Teachers are allegedly some of the most educated people in our society. Why do they need someone to bargain their worth? If you’re worth $70,000 a year you don’t need a union official to negotiate that. If you’re not, you’re part of the problem.
Studies have shown that improving our dysfunctional education system will be the most effective way to win our “social wars” on drugs, crime, illiteracy and poverty.
I don’t doubt that some homosexuals can be good parents, just like heterosexuals. Trying to find a million homosexuals and/or heterosexuals to adopt a continuing population of unwanted children is unachievable and will never solve the problem. Eliminating the creation of those 500,000 unwanted children is.

Red Cross had to divert staff to deal with Romney’s phony “relief effort”
10/30/2012 10:18pm by John Aravosis
Please Ignore the Black Man on the T-shirts
As we warned earlier, because the Romney campaign preferred a political stunt to actually helping Hurricane Sandy victims, the Red Cross is now busy wasting valuable resources processing donations from the Romney campaign that its own Web site admits it does not want.
As you’ll recall, Mitt Romney, after promising not to campaign today, campaigned anyway. And to add insult to injury, he used the pretense of Hurricane Sandy to hold campaign events wrapped in a cloak of “storm relief.”
Not surprisingly, Romney then turned his “relief” events today into what the campaign called “victory rallies,” including a Romney campaign propaganda video and the distribution of t-shirts saying “Obama, You’re Fired!”
So it’s abundantly clear what kind of non-partisan event this was. In fact, Mitt Romney used the suffering of millions of Americans as a shield to fend off criticism that this was a political event. But it was a political event, as countless reporters attested. (And it was more than a shield. He used people. He used their suffering to advance his own ambition. And he got caught.)
Here’s Something You Said You Don’t Want, Hope You Like It
The other way that Romney attempted to camouflage his campaign event as a “relief effort” was by, yet again, asking people to bring donations of supplies that the Red Cross has said repeatedly it does not want, and in fact, they’ve said it will impede hurricane relief efforts.
And I quote from the Red Cross Web site:
And that’s what happened as a result of Mitt Romney’s little hurricane stunt earlier today. We learn via a tweet from CNN’s Jim Acosta that the Red Cross is now having to spend staff time dealing with the collected food and other items the Romney campaign gathered today:
Here’s the longer Red Cross statement. Read it, then let’s talk about the criticism of Romney buried between the lines:
Note that last line: “We encourage individuals who want to help to consider making a financial donation or making an appointment to give blood.” That’s the equivalent of your grandma saying “thank you so much for the inflatable Elvis doll, honey, and I encourage anyone else wanting to get me a birthday gift next year to try something I can actually use.”
Forget About You, What About Me?
The Red Cross outright told anyone else doing what Romney did today, to collect financial donations or blood – not supplies. It was a subtle rebuke to the Romney campaign, and an effort by the Red Cross to undo the damage Romney has already done in sending the message to the American people that the Red Cross needs us to donate food, when they don’t, and it will actually hurt their relief efforts by diverting necessary manpower.
And that is exactly what happened today, now that the Red Cross is having to “work with the Romney campaign to process this donation of supplies,” instead of focusing on the actual victims of Hurricane Sandy who need their help in the eastern United States.
Like the catfish that Mitt Romney flip-flopped on earlier this year, Mitt Romney will jump on whatever he can get, not matter how distasteful.
More on the Romney/Ryan response to the disaster:
Romney, Ryan use hurricane for campaign event while NYC drowns
10/29/2012 10:19pm by John Aravosis
Update: Reporters are tweeting from the Romney “hurricane relief charity event” this morning, and they’re horrified at the politicking they’re seeing. Romney campaign videos are being shown, the “charity donation” table is small and roped off in a corner, and the entire event has been renamed a “Romney/Ryan victor Rally.”
__________________________
NYC Must Be the 47%
Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan really are a piece of work.
While New York City is quite literally drowning, Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan flip-flopped tonight on their promise not to hold any campaign events tomorrow, out of respect for the disaster this country is facing. Romney and Ryan will be holding separate “hurricane relief” events tomorrow morning, while America deals with a national catastrophe.
Here are the titles of two press releases Team Romney just sent out:
You might recall that earlier today, Mitt Romney “canceled” all of his events for tomorrow.
Yeah, that lasted about as long as Mitt Romney’s opposition to the auto bailout.
Romney’s event is bad enough – claiming it’s a “storm relief event” in Ohio, where he’ll just happen to be speaking and press has been invited. (Why do you need press? Same reason Romney needed press on his trip to Israel. It’s always about Romney.)
But Paul Ryan’s event takes the cake. Paul Ryan will be “visiting” two storm relief efforts in Wisconsin to “thank” volunteers – it sounds like he’s actually visiting campaign offices that are somehow doing something for hurricane relief. It seems they didn’t learn their earlier lesson about impeding storm relief efforts by holding these phony events that don’t address the real needs of the disaster relief agencies: money.
Which means whatever they’re doing for storm relief – and it isn’t entirely sure what, as they say they’re “delivering” needed items, delivering them where exactly? – will stop for a few hours while Paul Ryan comes by with the Secret Service.
Ryan’s event smacks of the phony visit he made to a closed soup kitchen a few weeks ago, where he pretended to clean dishes just until enough photos were taken, then the dishes were abandoned. Romney/Ryan voters then tried to destroy the soup kitchen.
Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan promised they would cancel their events and not politick tomorrow. And now, they’re not only politicking, but they’re doing it while Americans are quite literally drowning up and down the eastern seaboard. And worse, they’re using this disaster as an “opportunity,” as Mitt Romney does with every national disaster.
It’s not about you and me, our family and our homes, it’s about Mitt Romney and his ambitions. Always.
Romney's statements about Fema bring into focus the differences between the Republican and Democratic view of what the proper government response should be:
Sandy Underscores Debate Over Government's Role
by SCOTT HORSLEY
President Obama offered thoughts and prayers Tuesday for all those who have been affected by Sandy. He also offered something more tangible: the full resources of the federal government.
"The most important message I have for them is that America's with you," he said. "We are standing behind you, and we are going to do everything we can to help you get back on your feet."
For Obama, the federal government is a critical vehicle for that kind of help. Republicans put more faith in local government, and even voluntary efforts.
On Tuesday in Ohio, Mitt Romney sponsored a canned food drive for storm victims and told a parable about the virtue of individual action. When he was in high school, Romney said, a small group of students managed the big task of cleaning up a trash-strewn football field, after each student was given responsibility for scouring one small section.
"And if everybody cleans their lane, why, we'll be able to get the job done," he said. "And so today we're cleaning one lane, if you will. We're able to gather some goods for some people that are in our lane. We're going to help them."
Romney did not suggest that this kind of voluntary effort alone is a substitute for the government. But during a Republican primary debate last year, he did argue thatdisaster relief should be as decentralized as possible.
"Every time you have an occasion to take something from the federal government and send it back to the states, that's the right direction," he said at the time. "And if you can go even further and send it back to the private sector, that's even better."
State disaster officials have sometimes clashed with the federal government, though that's been less of a problem in recent years. Unlike his predecessor, President George W. Bush, Obama named a disaster professional to head the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
FEMA director Craig Fugate understands the states' perspective — he used to run Florida's emergency agency. Obama has promised to keep red tape from getting in the way of recovery.
"I told the mayors and the governors if they're getting 'no' for an answer somewhere in the federal government, they can call me personally at the White House," the president said.
So far, the federal government seems to be delivering. Republican Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey had nothing but praise for the federal response when he spoke Tuesday on Good Morning America.
"I have to say, the administration — the president himself and FEMA Administrator Craig Fugate have been outstanding with us so far," Christie said. "And I want to thank the president personally for his personal attention to this."
New Jersey and most of the states hit hard by the storm were already reliably Democratic in the presidential race, but that's not true of disasters generally. Texas leads the nation in federal disaster declarations, with deep-red Oklahoma not far behind.
Even so, for Republicans bent on reducing federal spending, the FEMA budget remains an attractive target. When Romney was asked directly during that same GOP debate last year whether disaster relief should be on the chopping block, here's what he said:
"We should take all of what we're doing at the federal level and say, what are the things we're doing that we don't have to do? And those things we've got to stop doing. Because we're borrowing $1.6 trillion more this year than we're taking in. ... We cannot afford to do those things without jeopardizing the future for our kids."
That's an inconvenient comment in light of this week's storm. Romney ignored reporters' questions about FEMA funding at Tuesday's canned food drive.
President Obama will continue to make the case for an active federal role Wednesday, not at a campaign rally but by touring hard-hit New Jersey.
But as the campaign continues. We need to ask ourselves:
Why Romney and Ryan's Lies Matter
For weeks I've been a bit amazed at how brazenly the Romney campaign has lied about simple things: the welfare waivers, the raiding of Medicare, that he would balance the budget in ten years, that they released two years of tax returns, the now infamous GM Janesville plant, the assertion that Obama never passed a trade bill while in office, Romney's weird story about this departure from Bain; while also repeating things which the campaign had to know were not true - the economy is worse today than when Obama took office, the Arab Spring has become an Arab Winter, the whole "he didn't build it" embarrassment. And of course there is the hiding the ball on his taxes, the off shore accounts, the high likelihood of massive tax evasion and the repeated mistakes/errors/lies on his public filings.
I've been in this business for twenty-five years now and truly I have never seen anything like this at this level of the game.
The big question is - why? The NYTimes speculates that it is because the current set of facts about the world and the US economy are not sufficient to un-elect the President. To win they would have to make things up to make them seem worse than they are. I think there is an element of this. But to me it speaks to something much deeper and more disturbing in the ideological evolution of the center-right in the US - how their politics has placed protecting the privilege of elites over all other concerns and considerations.
At the core of this approach is something profoundly anti-democratic. In order to protect privilege estate taxes are eliminated; investment taxed at much lower rates than regular income; programs/investments critical for the middle class - schools, infrastracture, retirement programs, health insurance reform - are cut; programs for the poor are gutted; laws making it much harder for people to vote are passed in GOP controlled states; the campaign system now allows just a very wealthy few to have an extraordinary influence over political discourse; while all the while the right is fighting, fighting, fighting to lower taxes for the wealthiest among us.
If your politics revolves around protecting privilege then lying to those without it is no big deal, For at the core of this new politics is a remarkable contempt for the well being of everyday people and the common good. This contempt for the truth is just an extension of their contempt for us and our interests. Which is why Mitt Romney is in so many ways a perfect candidate for this modern Republican Party, and Paul Ryan its perfect propagandist. They lie because at the end of the day their politics are not about us - it is about them, and their small group of funders and political allies looking to do a leveraged buy-out of the most powerful government in human history. Which is why there has been almost no mention these first two nights of the GOP Convention about what they will do when in power. Other than protecting low taxes for the wealthy it just isn't clear there is that much else they care about.
So yes the extraordinary contempt for the truth demonstrated by team Romney is an issue in this campaign. But commentators and journalists need to dig a bit more and I hope connect it to a much deeper and more troubling corruption of the modern center-right.
http://ndn.org/blog/2012/08/why-romney-and-ryans-lies-matter
The $5 trillion figure only takes into account Romney's tax cut; the $7 trillion figure includes the $2 trillion extra military spending that would occur under a Romney administration.
That still means he cuts revenue by $480 billion in 2015. We can argue about the technicalities all we want, but what is the truth is that it will increase the deficit substantially. And Romney himself referenced the Tax Policy Center in one of the debates to criticize Governor Rick Perry's tax plan. So what's good for the goose ought to be good for the gander.
First of all, the CATO institute is obviously biased. Even a conservative as yourself should admit that it is as biased (if not more) than Huffington Post or MSNBC. Secondly, they take into account other figures that are not part of the actual tax plan to lower the cost. And thirdly, the only reason why you would mention the word "static" is so that you can make an argument that the Romney tax cuts will increase revenues via "dynamic growth." The Bush tax cut was far smaller than the one Romney is proposing, and it did NOTHING to get us out of the dot-com crash. Why the hell should we cut taxes again if we know it will not work??? Einstein defined insanity as doing the same thing twice and expecting different results, and that is exactly what Romney's tax cuts are based on: insanity.
I agree that we have to reform education; but unions aren't the main problem. Unions can be an issue, but they have been around since the 1940s, and we had one of the best education systems back then. The real problem with the education system (minus the fact that states control it and have different standards) is the fact that parents and students aren't focusing on their studies and our school system's technique of teaching is outdated. We need to hire the best teachers and we need to consolidate our system with national standards, merit-based pay and tenure, more teachers (and less administrators), more technological innovation, and a better way of reaching out to parents to help their kids do good. The problem does not lie with the teachers or the unions; the problem lies with the students and the parents.

O Poll, Poll, wherefore art thou … the boys at Princeton appear to be down … I would suggest to them that they raid Harvard for a couple of servers and a generator. After all, Harvard appears to have given this country more than it seems to be able to handle of late.
Some trivia to pass the time as I am sure that you are all on tenterhooks … If Romney wins he may well be only the second President to do so while losing both his birth State and his home State. The first being … extended drumroll … the great Polk who gave the country the Smithsonian and to the chagrin of some, Texas. The ___— Romney will privatize the Smithsonian and to the chagrin of many, turn Texas into Taxes.

You must remember this
A poll is just a poll
A sentimental number ...
Happy Halloween!
The fundamental things (statistical formulas) apply...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
So O-H-I-O...can't win without it. New poll looks good for the incumbent, someone will be questioning the politics or the methodology, or both...
Libya will continue to be a topic for some, yet for others, not so much.
The challenger will be called a liar, the incumbent a failure, a socialist, the worst President in history and of course, a liar.
You'll all call each other morons, or some other term of endearment, and state with absolute certainty that your guy is winning, has already won, or that the other side is cheating.
New York City out my window looking towards Broadway is mostly back to normal. Stock market and Broadway shows open for business today, mass transit back for the most part. It is going to be a somewhat subdued Halloween, as we have had a real scare that trumps the make believe.
No one is above the margin of error in the national polling.
It's going to be a scary week for both campaigns, and the Red Team and Blue team will both be "whistling through the graveyard", as they fearlessly predict victory. The truth is that we will be in suspense until late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning next week.

By all those polls in Ohio, Romney is up 15 - 19 points in the independent vote. In the last 12 years researched, the candidate, whether republican or democrat, that wins the independent vote wins Ohio.
I'm sure you saw the Democrats rebuttal to republicans claims that republicans are doing. If you use the democrats 30,000 ft flyover, yes. What the democrats used was adding up all the counties Obama won in 2008 and yes, the vote increase there would appear to give them a 250,000 vote advantage over the McCain counties.
Trouble is this is 2012, not 2008. In 2004 Bush won 6 of those counties which until 2008 voted Republican. By all polls republicans are more excited about voting than Democrats, so you cannot use 2008, you must at least average 2008 & 2004. If you take the increase numbers of those 6 counties and credit them to Romney, Obama is ahead 10,000 votes.
That is still a suspect result because what really counts is what is happening on the ground and not from 30,000 feet. Republicans countered by tallying the individual precincts that are historically republican and historically Democrat in the 12 largest counties. What they report is that in If you take the wellPrecinct by Precinct tallies also show that in all counties that the Republican early vote is and propelled by greatly increased numbers from Republican precincts and off a bit at the Democrat dominated precincts.
Add to all this, Gallup reported Monday that Romney is up 52 - 46 in the early voting. Inside the polling showed that democrats and republicans voting on Tuesday will be about equal. IF all this holds, Romney is headed for 2008-like Obama numbers.
Now, if the republican vote is that greatly increased, why on earth are so many polls insisting on using 2008 as a model or a 2008 model as a trend?
What Romney is thought to have is based on polls that are not representative of the electorate. Back out the artificially inflated democratic numbers and deflated republican numbers, Romney may well have a landslide in the Electoral College.
Not only would this be a big win, but that will change the current projected no-loss House and Senate to gains of more seats because most of these polls also are the source for house and senate races.

A more complete swing state daily paper count finds 26 swing-state papers
backing Obama and 21 backing Romney. Seven swing state papers tallied by the
Post flipped from backing Obama in 2008 to endorsing Romney in 2012; one paper
that supported Sen. John McCain in 2008 now backs Obama.
Border Joe don't drink to much of that koolaid.
I thought it was funny that Salt Lake City's newspaper endorsed Obama. Wow, pretty cool, huh!
I heard this morning that the slimy, anti-american, outsourcing bottomfeeder and his rw whackadoodle idealog of a running mate are having to campaign AGAIN in their home states. Gosh, I wonder why that would be?
Obama/Biden 2012 - vote for the guy that actually DOES care.
Too close to call means that an incumbent at less than 50% popular vote in a given entity probably loses to the challenger (exception is 3 strong candidates to which the winner will win over 33% of the vote). The logic is, and seems to hold that those that are undecided have already decided against the incumbent. The question is do I vote for the challenger or just not vote.
When Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans Bush went to John McCain's birthday party while all those people lost their lives and homes and everything they owned.
When Bush arrived at McCain's, he gave his famous speech....HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU, HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR JOHNNY..HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU! OH BOY CAKE AND ICE CREAM!
After the birthday party Bush advisers had him go to California for a campaign funding party!
Romney hired 17 of his 24 advisers from this failed team. WHY GIVE THEM ANOTHER CHANCE TO FAIL?

I dot not have your dilemma ... it would mean jail time if I voted.
It is all about ground game from here on in.
Sorry to hear that. Yes, it's down to ground game, and where Romney has put a huge effort in changing. I actually saw a republican canvasing my left dominated neighborhood.
I miss seeing the 4x8 sheet of plywood one guy would put up at election time. It simply said "Greetings Comrades"

Thanks for a well written post.
I think 2008 was an anomaly, due to the historical nature of the election. That has all shifted now, nothing in 2012 can be based on 2008. Kind of like a marriage....honeymoon is over.

According to this article and everything else I've heard, Romney lost whatever "lead" he had, if Romney even really ever had a "lead".
To make matters worse for Romney, he's losing in all the states where he says he was either born in, or lived in. None of those states back Romney, and Wisconsin ain't backing Lyin Paul Ryan either.
Worse yet, Romney has no way to accumulate enough electorial votes to get to 270.

Warfare waged by the upper class
By Katrina vanden Heuvel,
Oct 30, 2012
Republicans finally settled on a true Plutarch — Mitt Romney — as their banner carrier. Romney has waged a campaign of upper-class disdain for the electorate. He was the “gated candidate.” He didn’t let his presidential race impede plans for a multimillion-dollar expansion of one of his beach homes, complete with elevators for his cars. He scorned revealing tax returns that would reveal the dodges and havens he exploited to pay a lower rate than do the cops who patrol his streets.
His disdain was reflected in his agenda. He called for tax cuts for all — particularly the wealthy — without revealing how he would pay for them. He called for deep cuts in domestic spending without revealing what he would cut, other than Big Bird. He called for repealing Obamacare without revealing what he would replace it with. He called for turning Medicare into a voucher system that would put more costs on seniors without revealing how he thought they would pay for it. He championed a “territorial” corporate tax system that would make any profit earned abroad tax-free — giving multinationals multimillion-dollar incentives to move jobs or report profits abroad.
This part of his agenda was inviolate; everything else — from his position on abortion to his catering to the anti-immigrant crowd to his muscular posturing on foreign policy — seemed to be situational, depending on the audience he sought to sell.
Obama, we know, has few populist bones in his body. His temperament is moderate; his preference is for compromise; his success has been based on bringing us together. His recovery plan included both direct investment in rebuilding the country and tax cuts to gain Republican support. His health-care reform was based on a Heritage Foundation plan adopted by Mitt Romney as governor of Massachusetts.
Obama responded to the financial crisis by saving the big banks, not breaking them up, but pushed through reforms that included Warren’s Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, designed to protect consumer from financial predators. He ended the war in Iraq while moving to end the Afghan war, the longest in U.S. history. His recovery act included the most extensive support for the vulnerable since the Great Society, the greatest investment in new energy ever and doubled investment in education. He saved the auto industry without nationalizing it.
For this, Obama has been submitted to an unrelenting and ugly campaign of insult and slander. Republican presidential candidates called him a Kenyan socialist, intimated he was literally anti-American, peddled cheap racial gibes about the “food stamp president,” lied that he had gone on an apology tour (which would not have been a bad idea).
Obama inherited an economy in free fall, a financial system on the verge of collapse, a plummeting housing sector. He faced immediate, unrelenting and treacherous obstruction from Republicans willing to risk the economy to gain partisan advantage. Yet his policies have provided the United States with a better recovery than any other industrial nation has seen.
Any president running for reelection with mass unemployment, falling wages and growing insecurity would be vulnerable. What is striking about this election is not that it is close but that Obama has run as strong as he has. And in these closing days, there is a good chance that he will be reelected, with the more populist Brown leading him in Ohio, with Warren winning in Massachusetts. The plutocrats went wild in this election. They may just learn that Americans are having none of it.

IR,
If you are tired of Romney's lies turn the sound off and read his lips. (Thank you GHB)
Just as in 1972, we are seeing a President and his minions engage in the classic 3D defense (Deny, Denigrate, Demand proof) when caught in the lie that will bring him down. Just as in 1972 it will not work! Deny that anything happened. Denigrate the person posting the facts. Demand proof of every little detail to drown the discussion in minutiae. It will not work!
The tide of evidence is rising and sooner or later it will drown Obama just as Nixon was drowned early in his second term.
I pray Obama doesn't win reelection. At least Nixon had the grace to resign. I don't think Obama does.
All of Obama's failures get the same left wing makeovers "it wasn't his fault" "the Republicans were mean to him" "Bush did it first" "he never really said he would do that" "here is something he accomplished" ... Scrape away all the excuses and the facts are still there:
On every single day of Bush's presidency, there were more people going to their jobs than on any day of Obama's presidency.
Obama has been a fumbling amateur in foreign policy, reversing himself repeatedly, supporting our enemies and disrespecting our friends.
The list of his failures is long, but what will bring him down is the fact that Obama knew it was a terrorist attack on our consulate. Had he told the truth at the time, he would have been admitting that he had committed a huge error in judgment not to grant the consulate's security request on the anniversary of 9/11. To prevent that, Obama deliberately mischaracterized the attack as a “spontaneous demonstration.” And now his lie and his incompetence are exposed!
He may thrash around like a hooked catfish. He may even be reelected. But he will eventually be brought to justice.
IR, terrific article. Your added thoughts, well said. In my many years of watching politics I've never seen a presidential candidate and his vice presidential choice tell lie after lie after lie in just a few minutes time and do this day after day. Never have I seen candidates continue the lies after the lies are proved to be lies. It isn't that they engage in smoke and mirrors politics but rather that Romney and Ryan, and the GOPTP in general, just flat out ignore any resemblance to truth.
Kannin, the ones who should have been brought to justice were Bush & Cheney. They cannot even leave this country for fear of being arrested and brought to trial for war crimes.
Kannin,
It seems to me that conservatives in this country have a short term and flawed memory. As I recall on March 23, 2011 President Obama's leadership skills put together a NATO Alliance to take over the no-fly zone over Libya in the time frame that the President talked about in the previous week.
Question: What role did Mr. Obama's Cairo speech have in the spread of the democratic aspirations of the Arab and Northern African peoples now known as the Arab Spring?
It appears that the President is not merely adequate, but prophetical and superior to many past presidents.
President Obama and Madame Secretary Clinton developed an outstanding diplomatic effort that formed a coalition and consensus in the U.N. and NATO that stopped a slaughter of thousands of innocent civilian Libyans and that brough the tyrant, murder of Americans (see Pan Am flight 103) and a long time supporter of terrorist, Gaddafi, to his knees.
That sir is true Leadership. The actions of a few dead enders in Benghazi pales in comparison and God rest their souls when President Obama finds out who and where they are.

Answer: That was when he first publicly and loudly affirmed his support for a Palestinian state. This had the predictable effect of encouraging the Palestinians to seek their own separate state. Then, he had to order his Ambassador to the UN, Susan Rice, to veto any UN resolution that might actually create a Palestinian state, in order to salvage the Jewish vote.
Most presidents (not all) have had sense enough to be consistent in the messages they send to the international community. Obama's Flip-flops only create an atmosphere of uncertainty and distrust. Obama's blundering could well be an important factor in the Middle East violence we see today.
Obama's amateur, fumbling attempts at foreign policy have been an embarrassment to himself and to the US.
Detroit,
This guy Brown is an incredible example of GOP scraping the pan for something negative to say.
How can you respond TOO QUICKLY to an emergency? These guys have a problem with the President's proven leadership skills, via his responses to one natural disaster after another over the last 4 years.
Chris Christie is President Obama's new BFF.
Another POS from the bush administration speaks..."Brownie" of all people should keep his mouth shut.
I really thought I had seen it all until this campaign. I have never seen brazen lying like the GOP does. And the icing on the cake was "Heckova Job Brownie" criticizing the President and FEMA for acting TOO SOON. As President Clinton would say---takes some brass!

A person who has failed learns how to spot failure so they don't fail again.
Brownie's career was drowned in the Katrina Hurricane.
No, I believe that any honest assessment of the president's Cario speech and the events that immediately followed would conclude that the speech was nothing less and a bold and eloquent effort to bridge the centuries old divide between Islam and the West. In the speech he urged the Muslim and Arab world to embrace democracy, women's rights, and economic development. This sensitive, supple and sophisticated speech will be remembered for all time as the progenitor of the so called ‘Arab Spring’. If the aftermath is properly handled by our diplomats, rather than demagogued by partisan politicians, it will lead to a more prosperous and peaceful world for the foreseeable future despite the Benghazi incident.
To those talking about Christie's new "bff" in BO should go back and read NBC's Lisa Myers article about the mishandling of Katrina by then governor Blanco (DEMOCRAT).
On the Saturday edition of the NBC Nightly News, anchored by John Seigenthaler, correspondent Lisa Myers reported several critical mistakes made by Louisiana Governor Kathleen Blanco in handling the Hurricane Katrina crisis. The story even showcased a whispered conversation, recorded by CNN, between Blanco and an aide in which Blanco admitted she had been too slow in asking for federal troops. Blanco: "I really need to call for the military ... and I should have started that in the first call."
Myers also relayed that when Blanco and New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin ordered a mandatory evacuation 20 hours before Katrina hit, they were ignoring the advice of experts who had warned it would take 48 hours. Additionally, Blanco was slow to get National Guard troops to restore order. A complete transcript of the story follows:

You do not know what you are talking about. You sound like a neo-Con. Obama's foreign policy is excellent, in my opinion, and I have closely followed foreign policy since 1968.
Democratic movements are unpredictable. But, US policy in the past, has often sought to suppress democratic movements such as in Iran in 1954. People remember when we interfere in their business. Much of the middle East were controlled by colonial powers from Europe in the past 100 years. The people there remember and they are very sensitive to outside attempts to interfere in their affairs. Neo-cons never understood this dynamic and it led to the failure of their policy.
Having foreign peoples respect us is the first step to lasting friendship. When have you become friends with the bully in the neighborhood? You're either a follower of the bully or an opponent of the bully (you cheer when someone stands up to the bully). Neocons turned America into the world's bully. Many cheered our failures. That is not the case now and stands as testament to Obama's efforts to provide a firmer basis for world peace.
It is certainly better for the world to work together to solve problems facing the world than to fight over scarce resources and tactical advantage.
We have the most powerful military on the face of the Earth. It drains our treasury at a rate of $700 billion per year. World peace will allow us to put some of this money to more productive uses (my opinion).
Obama has succeeded in crafting a foreign policy that works to create stronger friends and fewer enemies. That is the opposite result of the neo-con policy which created a world where you were either with us or against us. Nobody likes a bully.
OBAMA 2012....for intelligent leadership into a more peaceful future for America.
Kannin,
The Palestinian state solution In Israeli peace process has been US policy since the Oslo accords in 1993. Both the Clinton and Bush administrations were committed to this policy.
Prior to that the Peel commission called for the two state solution in 1937 while the area was under British rule. In 1947, this solution was reaffirmed by the UN while the area was under its control.
Obama merely reaffirmed the US commitment to the two state solution. It was not a change in US policy.
Obama said, "America will not turn our backs on the legitimate Palestinian aspiration for dignity, opportunity and a state of their own," in his Cairo Speech on Jun 4, 2009. And Susan Rice was ordered to veto the Palestinian statehood resolution before Sep 12, 2011.
Kannin
You misunderstand so much.
US policy of the two state solution has been contingent upon Palestinian recognition of Israel's right to exist and has always been subject to negotiation. The UN resolution conflicted with US stated policy since 1993. Obama administration has not changed this position.
You are just plain wrong. Maybe you should study the history of this area before you go off making your false accusations.
OBAMA 2012....for intelligent leadership.
First Thoughts: Returning To The Trail
What do you mean, "Returning To The Trail"?
Yesterday, at Mr. Romney's "non-political Relief Events", his campaign video from the GOP National Convention was aired and we had Senator McCain pontificate about Benghazi.
Non-political my ass! Seems to me Mr. Romney ultimately never left the trail.
Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall. - Proverbs 16:18
Have you no shame, Mr. Romney? No sense of dignity at all? A political rally masquerading as an event to help storm victims? Have you no shred of decency remaining?
Today President Obama will inspect storm-ravaged New Jersey with Governor Christie. When will you be travelling to New Jersey to see the damage, Mr. Romney?
So true Da Noid. Willard never left the trail and he has no shame. The simple fact is America wins with President Obama, and loses with Willard Romney.
Well, Obama is on the job. Â Yesterday, in a conference call with utility executives, he gave this kind of leadership
   |President Barack Obama, in storm-response mode just a week from Election Day, jumped on a conference call with utility executives to "underscore that restoring power to the millions of Americans who lost electricity during Sandy is a top priority."|
http://www.politico.com/politico44/2012/10/obama-wants-power-back-on-147764.html?hp=f3
Wow. Â What brilliance! Â I imagine all those utility executives slapping their foreheads, exclaiming, "make power restoration a top priority! Â Why didn't we think of that!"
President Master of the Bleeding Obvious isn't done providing that kind of brilliance- oh, no. Â EWR is reopening today- which will alleviate some of the problems for thousands of people trapped at airports during this disaster. Â Unfortunately, Obama is going to New Jersey today- so the only open runways will be closed to accommodate him. Â I know this because I was due to fly back today- but my flight was cancelled because of Obama's visit. Â I'm in my own house- not on a cot in an airport lounge- but where was the consideration for those stranded by the storm? Â I guess they don't count when there is a photo op opportunity this close to the election.
Funny- he didn't tour the area impacted by Isaac until AFTER Romney went in days after the storm. Â Of course, by the time Romney went in, airport service was back to normal, so, while a couple of flights might have been delayed, he didn't close the only runways available.
So, all those stuck in airports- take heart! Â Obama is coming, with profound insight- like telling utilities to make power restoration their top priority! Â Maybe he will tell us that hurricane devastation is a bad thing! Â Maybe he will tell us how much he cares! Â (well, for our votes, anyway). Â Maybe he will go so far as to tell us water is wet.
Anything to stay off the subject of Benghazi.
As soon as he can rent a jet for a fly-by. He will instruct the pilot to do one of those cute wing dip waves. Heck, he might even roll down the window and toss out cans of Starkist as he flies by.
NoJo,
Apparently you are in disagreement with the great Christie and his copious praise for the President. That must have hurt.
NOJO,
Your post is a hoot.
Sorry you are stuck in Key West today.
How the weather?
I would take your complaint and send it to your governor at your other residence state.
Christie said he was looking forward to Obama's visit today.
BTW your guy is in Florida, and his campaign bus in VA loaded with can goods, is where today?
Do you think Governor Christie thinks this is just a photo op?
Wow - thousands homeless, over 50 dead, millions without power, but let's keep the nontroversy of Benghazi at the forefront. When this broad finally gets her plane home, will someone please roll down her window at 30,000 feet.
Governor Chris Christie is interesting because his isn't always predictable, which must be so much fun for his handlers and political consultants...
---------------------------------------
Republican New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, a fierce critic of Barack Obama, praised the president and the federal government's response to the massive storm Sandy, which caused widespread damage and power outages along the East Coast.
Christie has attacked Obama repeatedly on the campaign trail and said the Democrat does not deserve a second term in the White House, instead backing Republican challenger Mitt Romney in the Nov. 6 election.
But just hours after the worst of the storm knocked out power for 2.4 million people in New Jersey, just south of New York City, Christie applauded Obama and the Federal Emergency Management Agency in interviews on major television networks.
"The federal government response has been great. I was on the phone at midnight again last night with the president personally," he told NBC's "Today" program.
"The president has been outstanding in this. The folks at FEMA ... have been excellent," said Christie, once thought to be a contender for the White House or possibly Romney's vice presidential pick.

Noid, I don't know WHAT Christie is thinking. I know what Bloomberg is thinking- he told Obama to keep out- he'd only complicate matters.
Strange- I normally side with Christie and think Bloomberg is a twerp- but this time, the reverse is true.
I'm thinking those stuck in EWR for another day won't be voting for Obama.
Oh, and Reddev, I guess you, like Obama, think four Americans slaughtered while the administration watched and refused to send aid are merely bumps in the road.
It's that kind of thinking that informs my opinion of liberals.
Red,
Not sure why she's waiting for an aircraft when her broom gassed up and ready to go!
Can't wait to see the pics of Governor Christie giving President Obama a nice big hug! lol
feisty -- a very predictable juvenile response. as a frequent flyer, mostly to the left coast, i can absolutely identify. it must be in the democrat genes. remember this episode as reported by the LA Times? I do. I was one of the victims.
"Everybody needs a haircut now and then, but was it necessary for Bill Clinton to delay his departure from LAX for an hour? Not only did Air Force One leave an hour later, but so did all other flights leaving and landing at LAX.
I think people understand airport delays due to weather or mechanical difficulties but I am sure that many of the passengers were so thrilled to hear, "Excuse me, this is your captain speaking: Our arrival (departure) to (from) LAX will be delayed for an hour due to the fact that President Bill Clinton is having his hair cut . " I think that that was a waste and misuse of time by the President. Then again, what's an hour of wasted time compared to four years?"
Michael Bloomberg …
“I talked to the president today and I talked to his chief of staff [Jack Lew] today, particularly about a trip here. What I pointed out to him is that we would love to have him, but we‘ve got lots of things to do,” Bloomberg told reporters. “And I’m not trying to diss him, but I know he had planned a trip to New Jersey, and I said, ‘That’s fine. It represents [NJ] the whole region; people understand the storm.’”
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1012/83082.html?hp=f2
Me thinks she is taking the broom, she just had to invent a story about being the latest victim of Sandy AND Obama. Indeed, closing the airport for a day to accommodate the president - as if flight delays across the country have nothing to do with the 15,000 cancelled flights over the last couple of days. Tis rather like her invented poutrage over Benghazi and her calling the death of Stevens a bump in the road. Poor thing is so sick they even sent her packing home after kicking her out of the Freak Fest in Key West.
No Jo
New Jersey is hit hardest and cannot afford to turn any attention away. Then again, in the back of Christie's mind could be don't cross Obama like Jindal did.
By the way, "no joe", I checked and the President is flying into Atlantic City International and not EWR.
Da Noid,
After agreeing to 'NO CAMPAIGNING' for either candidate on Tuesday, this event was in every respect a Romney Convention rally - complete with convention video, music and flags.
Romney shows himself incapable of keeping the most simple agreements, or even agreements with his own self.
Presidential = Zero.
Noid - we shouldn't expect expect no jo to get her airports correct when she can't even figure out how much red wine, white wine, and sparkling soda to serve at a cocktail party.
I'll tell you what was amusing though - not one of her fellow RWNJs would come to her rescue to help her out with her calculation problem. She must have solved the problem by serving her special Witches Brew.
Romney collects 10 endorsements to Obama's 1
October 25, 2012 @ 12:05 AM
By the West Virginia Press Association
The poor little sheeplole have lost the way---OhaaaaBahaaMaaa...chug the KOOLaid....Salud!!!
border joe,
we are expecting romney to pick up all the redneck endorsements.
border joe -
As your headline refers to 11 newspapers in West Virginia, one of the reddest states in the union, this hardly qualifies as "news". From your own link:
"The Charleston Daily Mail and the Moorefield Examiner Wednesday announced their endorsements of Romney for president. At the start of early voting, Romney had the endorsement of 10 West Virginia newspapers. President Barack Obama, the Democrat incumbent, had one endorsement."
Hate to break it to you, but I doubt that the entire election hinges on who the Moorefield Examiner is endorsing this year. In fact, there's some question as to how much newspaper endorsements matter in this day and age at all. But saince they seem to matter to you, try this article instead:
"It’s that point in the election cycle when the editorial boards of major newspapers offer readers their attempt at a measured assessment of which candidate is better qualified to be president. President Obama is the favorite so far. In the past week he has received the endorsement of the New York Times, the L.A. Times, even the Salt Lake Tribune—the newspaper of Mitt Romney’s home state of Utah.
According to the American Presidency Project at the University of California Santa Barbara, which tracks endorsements of the top 100 major newspapers based on daily circulation, 33 newspapers with a total circulation of 8,785,527 have endorsed Obama. The 27 newspapers that have endorsed Romney have a circulation of 4,902,794."
http://www.businessweek.com/articles/2012-10-29/do-newspapers-presidential-endorsements-still-matter
I'm sorry - they didn't mention what the circulation of the Moorefield Examiner is.....
Edit: Oh, look - their own website says "Right now the total paid circulation is 4,500 with 3,100 distributed in Hardy County."
Not only that, but they're published EVERY WEDNESDAY!
Christie is a class act. Remember, the hateful and I mean hateful comments ALL of the left were spewing here, just a mere month ago?
Romney/Ryan with Christine for a Strong America
If Virginia is for lovers, West Virginia is for undereducated, toothless, shoeless, coal sniffing Republicans that aren't quite smart enough to even vote their own self interests.
Mke - Looks like you liberal left wingnuts are still pissed that 41% of the WV Democrat primary went to a convicted felon Keith Judd instead of Obama.
Historically Americans have had a history of banding together to accomplish great things. The Louisiana Purchase, the transcontinental railroad, the purchase of Alaska, the National Park system, the war efforts of WWI and WWII, the fight against Polio and Smallpox, and the Apollo program are all great examples. Previously I've documented how today's Conservatives refuse to see the benefits of such efforts and would turn their backs on this great American tradition.
America also has a tradition of looking at great tragedy as a shared responsibility and reacting accordingly, banding together as a society to reach a hand to those knocked down. In that way a regional tragedy doesn't create a permanent disaster, as for example the coastal areas of Bangladesh and India. Instead we rebuild in a way that makes the whole of America even more successful because we don't let misfortune cause fellow Americans to languish, forgotten and trampled in the rush to prevail. Examples of this include Reconstruction, the New Deal, and decades of disaster assistance throughout the nation.
It probably shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone that Conservatives are against that as well, but what about the newly-surfaced "Moderate Mitt"? It turns out that in the event of a Romney/Ryan Administration you'd better hope the rains don't come and the creeks don't rise;
http://americablog.com/2012/10/romney-on-getting-rid-of-fema-absolutely.html
Of course there are already people out there ready to privatize disaster relief. Those are the folks selling plywood for $100 per sheet and gas for $10 a gallon in the immediate vicinity of a hurricane. Not exactly helpful, that. Still, those where Mitt's comments during the primary campaign, when he was "forced" to run to the Right in order to win the nomination. How does he feel now?
http://americablog.com/2012/10/romney-fema-hurricane-funding.html
Not only is it not a denial, the Romney campaign's position isn't even truthful. In reality if every state is given a block grant for "disaster relief" the states would simply divert that money to whatever purpose they felt might suit the purposes of Governors and lawmakers. Worse yet, it's obvious on even a cursory examination that sufficient resources to combat a major disaster would be unavailable because the money would already be evenly spread across the 50 states. It's an approach that simply would not work.
LATE BREAKING NEWS -- The Romney campaign has issued a statement that contrary to what the campaign and candidate (and VP candidate in his famous budget) have said Mitt the Human Weathervane is NOT in favor of eliminating FEMA. http://thinkprogress.org/politics/2012/10/30/1110921/romney-flips-fema/
Does anyone REALLY believe they can trust this guy?
John I hope you are spreading this message throughout your important state to whoever has the open ears for it. Your votes really matter!
Breaking:
Red Cross had to divert staff to deal with Romney’s phony “relief effort”
http://americablog.com/2012/10/red-cross-romney-hurricane-sand.html
John B, only the hallow believe Willard!....His stance on FEMA and other Government support agencies is 'etched' in stone......now, he will try to wiggle (lie) his way out of his previous stance!
Clearly, you have difficulty comprehending anything more complicated that "yes we can"-
Having no resources in the satiates because Washington believes they MUST keep those resources in Washington is wooden headed. The disaster needs of, oh, say, Missouri, in the aftermath of a tornado, are different than those of the coasts in the aftermath of hurricanes, or California in the aftermath of earthquakes.
Why would not it be far more efficient for the federal government to fund emergency personnel in the states- personnel that would have the expertise necessary to recover quickly from those regionally unique disasters?
Instead, we get a federal, Washington located, one size fits all agency- which is inefficient, at best, and incompetent, at worst.
Somehow, you think that bureaucrats are more competent to restore normalcy after disasters than, say, electrical contractors? Some long term federal employee, whose job it is to push papers from one side of the desk to the other, is better than a tree expert at removing trees?
You either pretend ignorance, or really ARE that ignorant. All of the recovery work done-ALL OF IT- is done by private businesses- but they are directed by Washington bureaucrats, who wind up SLOWING the process, because they are clueless about the needs of individual areas.
Grow up and get real.
BO
Romney supplies are being taken to Victory centers on the east coast. The Red Cross is not involved other than both Romney and Obama put a link to the Red Cross.
Considering your source is a blog, you might want to visit a little less.
John,
We knew that was coming. Multi/no-personality Mitt has a real problem.
Romney cannot compute that millions of folks are taking notes?
Big Money wants his GIANT tax cut. Even so, there is something wrong with Romney's ability to compute what is going on.
This guy would be SO dangerous for America. Romney has no concept of right and wrong, up or down.
DB Akron-
Then why did Romney tell his supporters to bring can goods to their local Red Cross office? I saw the clip myself, he was here in Dayton, Ohio, yesterday.
Romney has repeatedly asked for donations of canned goods - which the Red Cross has specifically asked people NOT to donate. They have to store, sort and transport these items and it takes more time and money than it is worth.
If these canned goods are taken on buses to Romney "Victory" centers in distressed areas, wont that potentially create traffic or logistic issues? Shouldn't the roads be kept open for emergency vehicles?
At best Romney's efforts are well-intentioned but not very helpful. At worst he is using a disaster for a photo-op instead of showing real leadership and asking for monetary donations to the Red Cross.
If Romney really wanted to help he would donate the canned goods to local food banks (who need them) and get his billionaire donors to send matching monetary donations to the Red Cross.
But that would require real leadership........
TNSEVOL - now please, getting handed a check is not nearly the photo op Romney wants. Did you see him stacking bottled water yesterday? Guaranteed he picked it up and put it down - just for the photographer. You're right, his "help" will be nothing but a hinderance at this point. Money is what is helpful for the Red Cross - lots of canned good and dry goods are not.
In a few weeks, sending those goods to homeless shelters and food banks would be welcome help but - let's be real - in a few weeks Romney will care less what is happening with "those people."
Obama/Biden 2012
John--it is bad enough that Romney wants to get rid of FEMA but worse that he wants to privatize disaster relief.
People keep asking why Romney hasn't visited the disaster areas? The answer is that NY and NJ are blue states and there are no electoral college votes there so why would Romney bother with them?
Seeking Sanity--in a few weeks Romney will be busy amending his 2011 return to claim the charitable deductions he didn't claim in order to raise his effective tax rate to 13%. Unless of course that return is already done and waiting to be filed on 11/7.
.
Privatize disaster relief, meaning they will not respond unless they think they can make a profit off the relief effort.
Exactly so. Plenty of folks have tried to "privatize" disaster relief in the past...the ones who sell gasoline for $10/gallon and plywood for $100/sheet in disaster areas.
Even here in Iowa one of the convenience store chains briefly jacked up the price of gasoline by $.80/gal, apparently believing the disruption on the East coast would cause a flurry of speculation.
Good morning Friends,
It’s good to be home. Traveling overseas is always a great experience, and it had been two years since my last overseas trip. One nice fact that I confirmed is President Obama is still loved throughout Europe, and Romany is not liked and scares the hell out of the people there. They call him, Bush 2, der Dümmer Esel " or in English, “Bush 2, the dumber ass.”
As far as the last two debates I did miss them. However, I did that see the highlighted results on German TV. In Munich the TV anchor reported that, “President Obama spanked Governor Romney’s tushie.”
Yesterday I fought through the jet lag and cast my early vote for President Obama.
So, let’s get out there and make it 4 more for 44.
There could be an element of this...
...their politics has placed protecting the privilege of elites over all other concerns and considerations.
http://ndn.org/blog/2012/08/why-romney-and-ryans-lies-matter
welcome home job1
thanks for the great first hand report from across the pond!
4 MORE FOR 44!
Welcome Back Job1!
We missed your daily Nate updates! ☺
Hey there Job1 ... I have been taking up the slack using the Princeton poll. Europe is great.
Welcome back Job 1. You haf been missed!
I get reports and updates from "elsewhere" as well. They love President Obama, and folks are just blown away by the way GOP has behaved over the past 4 years --
The way GOP blocked all job creation, the way they've maligned and blocked all the President's attempts at recovery in such a dire economic catastrophe. All in the hopes of blaming the fallout on him.
They acknowledge that America is making real headway, and reports of a strong economic recovery on our horizon.
bcwc, you have been doing a great job with the polls. Thank you!
Welcome home, Job1---we missed you. I have started going to Nate Silver's site to check out the blog because I was missing your updates! It is a really interesting site. The one thing I noticed was that the prediction line runs since June and Romney has NEVER been above 270 electoral college votes.
BCWC---enjoy the Princeton polls too.
When we were in South America last summer we would ask people about President Obama and got favorable reactions. The odd thing would be that people would add, unprompted---thank goodness you got rid of Bush.
My daughter, living and working in London the past 3 yrs, says the headlines there have not changed since robme's disaster tour. MITT THE TWITT Idiot managed to insult the Prime MInister and the Mayor of London and became a laughing stock. She said the headlines are supportive of President Obama's re-election and aghast at a robme run. She also informed me she had voted absentee ballot for our PRESIDENT!
You DemocRATS are all the same still blaming MR. BUSH As for one AMERICAN I AM Proud to have MR. BUSH as my President so go a head and keep blaming someone that has been gone for over three years for this President agenda that has been a complete failure
He's a failure because he couldn't repair 8 years of failure in 4? Bush took a balanced budget and added 6 trillion in debt. He started with a 4.2% unemployment rate and ended with 7.9%. The country was under Bushs budget through Oct. 2009 and exceeded 9% before Obama could turn things around. Bush averaged over 8 years the lowest job growth rate in 50 years. He fabricated, "proof" to start a war looking for imaginary WMD simply to finish what he believed his father failed to finish.
He was president over the greatest stock market collapse since 1929. You blame Obama for the growth in the debt but ignore the fact that most was caused by Bush. Bush's economic collapse reduced revenue 500 billion a year right before Obama took over. Bush's tax cut that republicans wont allow to expire costs 400 billion a year. Bushs drug plan adds 200 billion a year. Cost of Bush wars unknown because they're run off budget by Bushs orders.
Obama turned around an economy losing 800,000 a month under Bush and has averaged over 100,000 a month for 30 months. He doubled the stock market. Thinking Bush was a great president tells us all we need to know about you.
Job1,
Good to have you back.
Even the RWNJ were missing you and your daily Nate Silver report.
Thank you, Northstar!
I for one didn't miss them a bit. There were a couple other Fisty minions attempting to take your place with that drivel. In fact, I think Layton has found her one true love in Nate.
That I have Talk to the Hand ..... takes a nerd to love a fellow nerd!
Welcome back Job 1!
Who couldnt love Layton. Brains and a body!
BigDogg over and out.

Good Morning to all. Prayers go out to all affected by the Sandy. I have family in New Jersey and I know what that is like.
My husband and I went to vote early and it was the first time for my 18 year old to vote also. Actually he turned 19 on the day that he voted. I have to say that the atmosphere was quite different than when I voted for Obama 4 years ago. In case your doubt me here are some polls. It goes with out saying that even the ones that lean left have it very close.

Nate Silvers giving more weighting of polls like Marist has been called into question as it should be. Marist is typically the furthest away from the center for both sides. Add to that Quinnipiac.
Even James Carvel calls the contest a Draw in a frantic plea to raise another 1.5 Million. Wait, you mean the 15 Million Obama borrowed from B o A, just before his DOJ sued B o A for countrywide's fraud wasn't enough?
Anyone wondering about the reliability of Q poll should ask Alex Sink-
Q had her winning the governor's race in Florida up to the day before the election.
They missed New Jersey and Virginia out of the margin of error, as well.
Kind of funny that they can't seem to get their poll straight- their demographics are almost- but not quite- as bad as UNH polls. For proof of how bad UNH is- call Martha Coakley. They had her over brown by double digits right before that election.
I had 3 phone calls for election surveys the last two days. As soon as I hear the words survey and election, I hang up. I think they do a great disservice and I refuse to participate.
I received an election phone call last night.
If the election were held today who would you vote for President Obama or Mitt Romney?
Ans: President Obama
Do you think the economy is headed in the right direction?
Ans: Absolutely
End of conversation.
Hurricane Sandy - REAL Relief!!!
Okay, here's the deal...this is important!!!
Financial donations to the American Red Cross may be made by...
1. Visiting www.redcross.org
2. Calling 1-800-RED-CROSS
3. Texting REDCROSS to 90999 (automatic $10 donation)
In addition to money, the Red Cross has had to cancel over 100 blood drives so far because of the storm and more may be cancelled. The Red Cross estimates that could mean the loss around 3200 blood and platelet products. Even if you are nowhere near the areas affected by the storm, people need blood. Please consider donating.
Thank you!
Well said, Da Noid. The Red Cross is always in need of blood. If people can get out and donate, please do so.
noid -- the red cross needs help from everyone, no doubt about it.
as a reminder, the donald has offered to donate $5,000,000 to a charity named by obama if he will produce certain records -- his birth certificate and passport from college -- to date the president has only made jokes on late night talk shows about this offer.
if the president decides to keep his records hidden he deprives a charity, maybe the red cross, of millions of dollars of much-needed funds.
this strikes me as a bit selfish on the president's part. would you agree?
It also strikes me that if The Donald cared so much, why would he attach strings to his genorousity? A gift with conditions is not a gift. Why doesn't The Donald just cut a check right now? Because cameras aren't rolling....
Detroit Storm - if the Donald actually cared so much - and was honest, which he isn't - he would have made the same offer to Romney for his tax returns. But, like most of us, he knows the tax returns would sink Romney. It's just another game for the Donald because he has his new season of his show starting now and it gives him the wanted publicity. But, it appears to be backfiring as most people are just looking at him as the crazed buffoon he is!
billybob - no it's not selfish of the President. He's just had enough of the stupidity of the morons on the right who demand things from him no other President has been asked for while giving a pass to their candidate on what ALL other Presidential candidates have provided. Enough is enough and the far right idiots will never be happy!
Obama/Biden 2012
Grow up, "billybob".
Why hasn't Trump accepted Colbert's challenge and give the $1 million to his favorite charity (probably himself)?
For those of you who haven't seen the show, Colbert offered Trump $1 million to suck his balls. Seems as valid as Trump's offer.
Yes we can.
Yes we did.
Yes we will.
Obama/Biden 2012
Tell us what you can...lololol...I can pull the Republican lever in Nov....can you? So people will have a job to go back to.
Joe66 - actually "pulling the lever" today so people will have a job to go to. Voting straight Democratic ticket for the first time ever!
Obama/Biden 2012

From the article above:
There are hauntingly evil spirits amongst us. We hear them daily on this spider-web site.
They are the Sorcerers of Spin, Witches of Whining, and Fire-breathing Conspiracy Monkeys, all lurking behind the avatars of propaganda and slithering in the shadows of talking points, WAITING, for the perfect moment to prey on the unsuspecting poor and innocent middle class.
They only come out during the protective cover of the election Full Moon, for they KNOW, they cannot risk exposure from the deathly rays during the Daylight of Truth.
(Thunder clap)
Meanwhile, high atop Mount Bullchitus, in a medieval fortress known as Castle de Faux, the evil Dark Lord Count Roveula and his hunched-back lackey Igor Ailes, work tirelessly in their rat-laden laboratory brewing a hypnotic potion made from eye of Newt and mouth of Hannity.
When the bitter concoction known as Cryptic Kool-Aid has fermented, they command their brain-washed zombies to spread out across the spider-web to cast a spell known as Romnesia.

Fear NOT, my Progressive Angels, for we have the POWER to defeat those wretched masters of lying and treachery, with our Silver Bullets of Truth, and our Golden Crosses of Justice.
We shall PREVAIL this November 6th, for our fight is not only to conquer the evil spirits that have besieged this Great Land, but to uphold Truth, Democracy and the American Way for ALL!

Why
are so many so surprised that Myth Romney stood in front of 67 million voters
and lied thru his teeth??? That is the GOP way!!!
George
H. W. Bush "Read my lips no new taxes"!!!
George
W. Bush "Republicans will be compassionate conservatives"???
Mitt
Romney "I never said I was going to give the rich an additional 10 percent
off on their taxes"&&&
I'm
starting to think I like the idea of Romney winning. And when he gives he and
his rich buddies more tax breaks and takes this country's economy over the edge
of that cliff that President Obama has worked so hard to pull us back from with
nothing but treasonous opposition from the idiots on the right, I am going to
love it.
Then
when the right pulls out the second trick in their three trick pony act, I
might actually weep for you idiots when he sends your kids into war so he and
his rich buddies can get even richer while your kids come home in boxes.
And
the third trick is to deregulate everything, banks, insurance companies,
utility companies and its "bend over middle class"!!!
ROMNEY
RYAN 2012 BRING IT ON
Ha Ha, LOL, ah, excuse me.
But, what "President Obama" would THAT be? The one who authored 43 straight months of 8+% unemployment. You mean THAT President Obama?
Or, perhaps the President Obama who increased the federal deficit from $10 trillion to $16 trillion in just 3.5 years. You mean THAT President Obama?
Or maybe, you mean the President Obama, under who's watch the price of gasoline has more than doubled since January of 2009. Do yoy mean THAT President Obama?
Or, how 'bout the President Obama who lost 2.2 million jobs in the first 6 months of his administration? You mean THAT President Obama?
Boy, for a guy who supposedly "pulled us back off a cliff" he sounds more like someone who pushed us over the ledge!!!!!
DEMOCRATS FOR ROMNEY 2012!!!!!!!!!
Zman-
Please enlighten us as to the Obama policy that took effect so early in his presidency that caused the job losses? When it snowed on Inauguration Day was that his fault too?
THE EMPLOYMENT SITUATION: DECEMBER 2008 Nonfarm payroll employment declined sharply in December, and the unemployment rate rose from 6.8 to 7.2 percent, the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor reported today. Payroll employment fell by 524,000 over the month and by 1.9 million over the last 4 months of 2008. In December, job losses were large and widespread across most major industry sectors. Unemployment (Household Survey Data) In December, the number of unemployed persons increased by 632,000 to 11.1 mil- lion and the unemployment rate rose to 7.2 percent. Since the start of the reces- sion in December 2007, the number of unemployed persons has grown by 3.6 million, and the unemployment rate has risen by 2.3 percentage points. (See table A-1.) http://www.bls.gov/news.release/archives/empsit_01092009.htm-------------------------------------------------------------------------- The employment situation was in free-fall in December of 2008...3 point six million jobs were lost between december 2007 and December 2008.If Mitt the Twit wins, I will be moving to British Columbia.

Obama/Biden 2012
thats great big duckk im in full support of providing all you lib sponges free barge fare to the european country of your choice. plus 500 bucks to restart your leech lifestyle once you get there. buh bye.
ZMan -
Let's clear the air shall we?
43 straight months of 8% unemployment - sounds bad. Are you referring to the same rate that went over 6% in August of 2008 (ya know, 4 months before Obama was elected) and steadily increased until approximately April/May of 2009? Yup, Obama's policies are apparently so bad they affect the economy even before they are implemented!
Hmm, $6 Trillion dollar deficit increase in 3.5 years .. just as bad. How much of that deficit increase is from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan (we still have to pay for those) and the $700 billion TARP payments signed by George W Bush in October 2008 (a full month before the election again)?
Gas prices doubled since January 2009 huh? One would hope so during the recovery from a recession! Rewind that 8 more months - to July 2008 - and the national average gas price was $4.11. When the economy tanked in late 2008, gas prices plummeted (artificially) as a result - the increase in cost is an indicator of a recovering economy, its that whole supply and demand thing.
Lost 2.2 million jobs in his first 6 months *gasp*!!! But look at the jobs report for the last half of 2008 (when GW Bush was in office) : July 2008: 51,000 jobs lost, August 2008: 84,000 jobs lost, September 2008: 159,000 jobs lost, October 2008: 240,000 jobs lost, November 2008: 584,000 jobs lost, December 2008: 524,000 jobs lost. That makes for a total of 1.642 million jobs lost in the 6 months prior to him taking office - less, granted but the recession was just getting going. If you look, during the first quarter of 2009, job losses averaged 691,000 monthly - by the 4th quarter they had slowed to 69,000 per month. This is another case where it appears that Obama's policies halted and then reversed the trend that began before he took office.
If you want to compare numbers, you can't cherry-pick them to prove a point. An deeper analysis shows a trend beginning mid-2008, entering free fall late-2008, but showing steady (albeit slow) recovery starting mid-2009.
Apparently Romney didn't read the rulebook, but every political hack knows you don't tell the big lies until two days before the election so the truth tellers can't blow the whistle on you in time for you to be caught being a dirtbag.
Kofeebrat: I'd also point out we were still operating under Bush's budget until Oct. 2009. The right always acts like Obama should have been able to fix Bushs train wreck on day one in office and bash him when he couldn't. It took 8 years for Bush to screw it up but Obama's a failure if he couldn't turn it around in one day.
It is amazing. The same liberals on this vine that have done nothing but chastise Governor Christie from his weight to anything else he may have to say now hold him up to be a hero just because he is doing what he should be doing. Pathetic but normal!
Also the lead Lib on here stated in the first post how many time Willard said he would privatize Fema. I wonder how many times Hussein has had a chance to come clean about Libya and did not. More than 14 I am thinking.
It is good to see the President stayed during this latest crisis and tried to act Presidential. He didn't fly out to Vegas this time for a fund raiser. I just figure they couldn't get Air Force 1 off the ground or he would have!
I can understand that your peeved that Christie isn't a robot you can count on to throw 'Blue" meat under the FOX Noise Bus.
You must have clutched your chest when Christie blasted the FOX morning stooges for asking about a Romney/Christie NJ photo-op!
Your pain will end in just 5 more days and you can go back to doing whatever you did before being on the Rove payroll.
I see someone with an eye towards the 2016 election! Got to imagine that if Christie had to pick a guy to chum with that Romney'd be the last guy on earth.
@ dogs80....you hit the nail right on the head!
These Obamaphiles whine, moan, complain, and call Governor Romney all sorts of horrible names for doing something decent to help out Hurricane Sandy's victims.
But, they praise, laud, and pledge allegiance to Obama-Shama-Lama-Ding-Dong, even though he denied extra security to our diplomats in Benghazi, and then LIED about the cause of their deaths for more than two weeks afterwards.
There's just something inherently wrong with a value system which allows that sort of thinking.
We need to change the direction in which this country is heading. I sure don't want my kids growing up with that kind of mentality, and I'll bet most folks would agree with me on that.
Obama says he's "fired up, and ready to go."
So, what we need to do is FIRE HIM, and SEND HIM ON HIS WAY back to Chicago!
DEMOCRATS FOR ROMNEY 2012!!!!!!!!!!
ZMan -
I think the values of many people started to change when parents started to allow the public school system to teach them. Instead of children learning right from wrong from their parents, churches, and communities parents abrogated their responsibilities to others.
Dogs80: You chastise liberals for not acknowledging Christie doing the right thing then bash Obama for doing the right thing. Hypocrite much?
USNews: Barack Obama's Failed Campaign Strategy
It was all going so perfectly for President Barack Obama.
He had painted his opponent, former Gov. Mitt Romney, as an out-of-touch rich guy with elevators for his wife's multiple Cadillacs and bank accounts throughout the Caribbean. Romney had no plan—or at least none he was willing to discuss with voters. He was bellicose and callow on foreign policy. And The Groups—women, Hispanics, African-Americans, union members, public employees— were lined up so solidly behind the president he absolutely could not lose.
And then, on October 3 at about 9:04 p.m., Romney took to the stage in Denver and reset the campaign. He was not out of touch at all. He made sense. He had solid ideas, a sense of hope. He connected. He laughed. He seemed confident. The president looked down at his notes. He came across as not wanting to be there. He offered little reason to give him another term.
That night was followed closely by Vice President Joe Biden's neighing, braying debate performance—an effort only a deeply partisan Democrat could've loved. Then there was the Al Smith Dinner, where Romney seemed uncommonly gracious, sensible, and downright funny.
The cascade of cognitive dissonance these Romney appearances unleashed on the nation was like the waves slashing the coast because of Hurricane Sandy. They destroyed the landscape in their path and left something decidedly different, something Democrats now recognize as a true and serious threat to the president's re-election hopes. He can lose, and they know it.
And if Obama does, if he becomes only the sixth president in the last 100 years to lose re-election, he will have no one to blame but himself. He created a Romney so far removed from the real Romney that when voters saw the real Romney they realized they had been had. And voters don't like to be had.
somnanvb? Your post is reminiscent of reading public school history books. Great men are always greater if you leave out certain facts and all things happen for the greater good and by God, thats why we are a great country. Seldom are the influences of back-room players revealed let alone discussed. The biggest reason your impression of Romney is rosy is that you ignore his association with the likes of the Koch Bros. Their agenda and record is not a Disneyland tale. They don't give a hoot about anything but wealth and power and their unrestricted access to it. Vote for Romney=vote for Koch Bros. ...not rocket science and not a vote for the future of this remarkable planet. Continue with your fantasies about "the real Romney" if it helps you to sleep at night.
Actually all Romney did was lie pretending to be a moderate. The right wing agenda can never win on its own. There's a reason the last 3 republican presidents have all proposed tax cuts, to buy votes. Millions will vote for anyone willing to cut their taxes a few hundred dollars a year even if it bankrupts the country. They like money.
Can't wait till Romney pulls his lame a$$ bus into Virginia to give all the canned goods away-Yet another political move !!! Let's see: Ohio and Virginia are critical for Romney and he wants to show us his kindness in these states ONLY !!! Too bad he showed none of this in Peabody and Greenfield Massachusetts when he was Governor. He is a scum bag, period !!
Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight! lame a$$!
lololol!
Hey Maria, why in the hell would he go into NJ, NY, or CT? Those places were the hardest hit and need no hype and media getting in the way of the recovery. It is indeed a smart as well as humanitarian move to go to a less affected state, help where he can and make sure anything he has accumulated be distributed by those who are authorized and already on their way and on the ground to the north. Obama is in DC. Would you like him to set up a temporary office in NY or NJ just so the city could be deadlocked while security scrutinized a sight as well as daily transportation for him to "show up"?
Dig some more. You may actually come up with something.
If Romney sent money the liberals would scream their heads off that he was buying the election and tht is a fact! He can send money AFTER November 6, but not before. Let us see how the very generous Obama and Bidens donate financially after the election.
Expired cans of pimento olives, vienna sausage, and mandarin oranges isn't what Sandy victims need right now. Something someone from the horsey crowd would think up.
CoCo is probably right ..... still MR's comments on FEMA ... actually here is the problem with MR ... people don't want to remember what he said 6 months ago ... they just want to hear what they want to hear and he will gladly accomodate you!
Romney is trying to buy the election. What do you think the 20% tax cut is that will cost 5 trillion dollars? He's just trying to buy it with our money. If not for the millions who will vote Romney to get a few hundred or a few thousand off their taxes it wouldn't be close. There's a reason Romney's following the same tax cut strategy of Bush and Reagan. Many will vote for their pocket book regardless of what it does to the country.

I would like to a thank Chris Christie for putting aside politics for the people of his state.
It is amazing how people are praising Obama for "suspending his campaign" to be in the white house. The media is all aglow. I have news for you people it is his JOB. IT IS WHAT HE GETS PAID TO DO! He does NOT get paid to campaign for 4 years. It is his JOB. I believe a short time ago there was a hurricane in Florida. He did NOT suspend his campaign for Florida, as he did not actually suspend this campaign. Biden and Clinton were safely campaiging out of harms way in the Midewest. MANY rallies. He did NOT suspend his campaign when 4 US men were murdered by terrorists in Benghazi. He went on his merry way to collect money in Vegas.
Romney is selling anti-Obama t-shirts yesterday at his rally while thousands are suffering as a result of Sandy.
Maybe people are just happy at how much better Obama is doing his job then Bush did under similar circumstances. And before you say Romney's not Bush I'd remind you that you couldn't tell the difference reading his plan. Tax cuts, increased military and aggressive foreign policy all check. Yep, sounds like Bush 3 to me.
I'm pretty sure Romney was "On the Trail" yesterday in Ohio so I'm not so sure you can call it 'returning' to the trail today in Florida. R's event in the Buckeye state included every aspect of his campaign stops plus 'drop some can goods if you can' so I don't look quite so much like an uncompassionate weasel!!
Even McCain couldn't restrain from attacks yesterday to take a moment to consider the enormity of what was happening to East coast & New England residents.
Thanks for BEING President, Mr. President!!
Obama/Biden 2012
Even Gov. Christie doesn't want to be seen with Romney after that debacle.
9/11/2012 - Thanks for NOT BEING President, Mr. President!!
STAND DOWN!
so according to JOB1, other countries love our Prez and us. Can't wait to see how many countries give us aid to rebuild the East Coast.
I can tell you how many! NONE
you got that right!
Gov Christie has that look. The look that my fellow townspeople and I had when we survived a devastating flash flood that killed hundreds of our fellow citizens and loved ones in 1972. There is something about Mother Nature that will snatch you out of your dream-world and smack you down to reality. The Gov now knows that Obama is a good, dependable leader- who has your back when you need him.
Limbaugh bashed Christie for praising Obama's response. He apparently believes he should have lied and pretended Obama failed. Limbaugh and Fox. Lies and deceit.
in other news today it has been a year since MF Global melted. can anyone explain why we have not seen a perp-walk staring john corzine who is one of the 1% CEOs hated so much by the left?
Because he is one of them, so he gets a PASS. . .
Leftist hypocrisy at it's finest!
why don't you look into how much the CEO makes for the Red Cross. I believe you libs love to give money to them.
sorry posted that under the wrong comment.
Same reason that nobody on Wall Street went to jail after they tanked the economy by selling subprime mortgage backed securities and then betting against them with credit default swaps.
Same reason in 2002 nobody from Household Finance Corporation went to jail after selling 15 year mortgages with a 12.5% interest rate by telling low income borrowers the interest rate was 7% (if spread over 30 years is the part they failed to add).
Corzine is part of the few, the proud, the investment bankers......treating your money as theirs at every opportunity.
Why Is Romney giving out can goods? What are people suppose to do with those open them with thier teeth?
Obama/Biden for the people,for a compasionate country,womans rights.
Canned goods is all he can afford unless he gets his tax cut. 250 million doesn't go as far as you think.
Today's analysis of the battleground states using the aggregator websites. Remember, my analysis is not based on the average of the lead a candidate has in a state, but on a trendline of the number of polls that have a given candidate ahead in the state. If a candidate has a lead in all of the polls or his opponent does not have a lead in any of them, the state is listed as All (candidate).

Analysis: Today, I'll focus a little bit on Ohio. The right wing posters yesterday made a lot of noise about the supposed movement in Ohio, so we'll see if any of that is borne out in fact or whether all of the talk is simply coming from a singly outlier poll by Rasmussen. Most know by now that there are a few polling organizations and that they repeat polls in states.
Since October 23, the following polls have been conducted in Ohio:
Grove Insight (D-Project New America/USAction) NEW! 10/28 - 10/29 500 LV 48 45 - Obama +3
JZ Analytics/Newsmax NEW! 10/27 - 10/29 825 LV 49 45 6 Obama +4
Rasmussen Reports 10/28 - 10/28 750 LV 4.0 48 50 Romney +2
SurveyUSA 10/26 - 10/29 603 LV 4.1 48 45 Obama +3
PPP (D) 10/26 - 10/28 718 LV 3.7 51 47 Obama +4
Gravis Marketing 10/27 - 10/27 730 LV 3.6 50 49 Obama +1
CBS/NYT/Quinnipiac 10/23 - 10/28 1110 LV 3.0 50 45 Obama +5
Purple Strategies 10/23 - 10/25 600 LV 4.0 46 44 Obama +2
CNN/Opinion Research 10/23 - 10/25 741 LV 3.5 50 46 Obama +4
ARG 10/23 - 10/25 600 LV 4.0 49 47 Obama +2
Mellman 10/25 49.0 44.0 Obama +5.0
As you can see, 7 of the 11 show a 3-5 point lead for Obama, 3 show a 1-2 point lead for Obama, and 1 shows a lead for Romney.
Now look at the list of polls taken from 10/15-10/23:
Rasmussen 10/23 48.0 48.0 Tie
U. of Cincinnati/Ohio Poll 10/23 49.0 49.0 Tie
Time/SRBI 10/23 49.0 44.0 Obama +5.0
Lake Research Partners 10/23 46.0 44.0 Obama +2.0
SurveyUSA 10/22 47.0 44.0 Obama +3.0
Suffolk * 10/21 47.0 47.0 Tie
PPP 10/20 49.0 48.0 Obama +1.0
Quinnipiac 10/20 50.0 45.0 Obama +5.0
Angus Reid 10/20 45.0 45.0 Tie
Gravis Marketing 10/19 47.0 47.0 Tie
Fox News 10/18 46.0 43.0 Obama +3.0
Rasmussen 10/17 49.0 48.0 Obama +1.0
SurveyUSA 10/15 45.0 42.0 Obama +3.0
Pulse Opinion Research 10/15 46.0 47.0 Romney +1.0
5 of 14 showed a 3-5 point lead for Obama, 3 of 14 showed a 1-2 point lead for Obama, 5 showed ties, and 1 showed a lead for Romney. The difference is pretty striking. We have seen the state go from less than half showing a distinct lead for the president to 64% of the polls taken to showing that lead. We have gone from nearly half of the polls taken showing the race tied or Romney leading to 10%.
Anyone who believes that the polls show any Romney momentum is simply willfully ignoring the reality of the last 8 days of polling. Ohio seemed much closer 8 days ago, but the vast majority of the recent movement has been in the direction of the president. Barring anything dramatic like Obama seriously fumbling some part of the reaction to the hurricane, (which seems to be the opposite of what it happening according to just about every news source), the race for Ohio appears to be all but complete at this point.
And it appears as though the president's structural advantage in the race will continue to hold as well.
10/31/12
Obama up 5 in Ohio, with seven days to go, with 2 to 1 early voting advantage THE FAT LADY IS SINGING !
Cut and paste spamming. What left wing fruitcake website did you get this post from? Media Matters? You guys are a f'n joke.
Romney momentum EXISTS in 'ROMNEY WORLD' and only in 'ROMNEY WORLD'... After the Jeep lies, WE THE PEOPLE are happy to see that MITT'S LIES are finally nipping MUTT-IN-THE-BUTT!
If you honestly believe that I cut and paste my daily analysis, then you are either blind or just an idiot.
It changes every day. That's why it's called a 'daily analysis.' I didn't post it yesterday because there was very little polling going on while the hurricane was happening.
Michael Thompson - could you PLEASE do something about North Carolina? I'm sooooo disappointed by home state is losing it's collective mind and voting Romney!!!!
Obama/Biden 2012
Sorry SS. He cannot.
Nice effort and well presented.
As Joe Friday would say, "All we want is the facts, ma'am".
you're taking all the fun out of this ... I should give you my Fantasy Football Team ... that thing needs an analysis!
Right wing fruitcakes always demand proof then bitch when it's given. I've even seen proof taken from Fox news denied claiming it was a left wing reporter that commented. Quit demanding proof when there's nothing outside a live recording you'd accept.
During a radio interview on Oct 26, Obama said that in the immediate wake of the attack he issued several directives, including one to “make sure that we are securing our personnel and doing whatever we need to.”
In response to this, Rep. Howard "Buck" McKeon, chairman of the House Armed Services Committee wrote, “There appears to be a discrepancy between your directive and the actions taken by the Department of Defense. As we are painfully aware, despite the fact that the military had resources in the area, the military did not deploy any assets to secure U.S. personnel in Benghazi during the hours the consulate and the annex were under attack.”
“I find it implausible that the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the commander of U.S. Africa Command and the commander of U.S. European Command would have ignored a direct order from the commander in chief,” the letter states.
It asks Obama to shed light on “to whom did you issue this first directive and how was this directive communicated to the military and other agencies — verbally or in writing?” The HASC chairman also wants to know if Obama on that day directed the military to “move available assets into Libya” and if he gave military commanders authority to “take any and all necessary measures to secure U.S. personnel, including specifically the authority to enter Libyan airspace.”
I believe that Obama's claim that he "issued several directives, including one to “make sure that we are securing our personnel and doing whatever we need to” will turn out to be one more lie in a long series of lies throughout his presidency.
The civil war is over, kannin.
The United States of America won.
Get over it.
Following the attack on the US Diplomatic Mission in Benghazi, administration spokespersons, including White House spokesman Jay Carney, maintained for two weeks that the attacks likely were a spontaneous protest against an anti-Muslim film. They offered no evidence to support that contention. Not the slightest shred of evidence indicated a spontaneous protest The attack started in late evening and went on to 4 in the morning. Not a single report or photograph indicated protestors with the usual crude signs. Just well armed terrorists with heavy weapons.
And yet Obama and his Administration continued to insist it was a spontaneous protest against an anti-Muslim film. They fabricated that story out of thin air just to cover up the fact that Obama had made a catastrophic error so serious that it borders on treason.
Same old rant. Why don't you just wait for the facts?
zhovti - You mean wait until after the election to acknowledge the truth? Nice try, but it ain't gonna work.
Wait on the facts? Don't you think that it is a fact that our consulate was attacked by heavily armed terrorists?
Kannin,
Have you read the speech Obama made the MORNING AFTER the attack? He specifically says "acts of terror".
Ohio Legitimate RAPISTS for Romney / Ryan !
Hey man...... It's God's will, Thanks Mitt.
When you stop tweaking on meth, maybe you'll be able to attribute the things someone said to the person who said them. I doubt that though.
You know it is amazing how anyone could vote for ROMNEY. The President is being PRESIDENTIAL, he is visiting where is needed. With people devastated by this storm, been there don that. If you have never experienced it, don't judge. I have gotten five calls, on polls, each time I tell them everyone in my family is votoing OBAMA, then they act like they don't believe it. They probably put down anything they want.
Go Clare woman of Missouri are behind you 100%. Newt get your a$$ out of missouri, they don't need you, they don't want you. McCaskell is going to win Missouri. Let Akin take the hit, he deserves it.
Why is he NOT being PRESIDENTIAL on Libyia? What was he doing on 9/11/2012?
Why was the order to STAND DOWN given and who gave it?
11/6/2012 - STAND DOWN Obama, STAND DOWN
You're brainwashed so that's why you can't imagine how anyone can vote for Romney.
People who "can't imagine" something lack critical thinking skills. It is a sign of reduced intelligence.
Fundamentalist Islamists can't imagine why anyone would believe in another God but Allah and see anyone who would do so as a sub-human who deserves to die.
Lady Jag!
More Missouri LOVE for Claire at this side of the state! She is definitely going to beat Akin! Whoo hoo. And I bet Jay Nixon holds the Governorship, as well!
Now the Presidency? I don't think Dems get the vote. Too much vitriole. But I will be voting OBAMA!
Absolutely right Lady Jag!!! The people who LACK CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS (Republicans all) are the people who would vote for Romney. Using their brains like that just hurts too damned much so they like being told what to think by places/people like Fox News and Rush.
Usually dont respond much but when someone starts talking about how great McCaskill is I have to chime in! If Akins don't make stupid remark Claire would have been routed in Missouri. Eveb as is she may loose!
I live in Missouri and know many women who will not be voting for McCaskill! She is the biggest liar in the Senate. I like watching her ads on TV where she is doing everything to distance herself from Oboma! That will last until re-election. I wouldn't bet the re-election comes! She is a skunk! You libs in the city still don't have enough votes to carry her!
Anyone that claims Clair is a liar is someone WHO HAS NOT FOLLOWED WHAT SHE HAS DONE. Dogs80, people like you only get your news from conservative sources that lie and twist the truth into something unrecognizable from what it really is and that is scary.
Put it this way... voting in Republicans to run our government is like hiring pedophiles to run day care centers. Just look at how they have raped our country and where they took us. They want to finish the job they started of ruining our country.
I wouldn't trust a republican to guard a piggy bank or manage the money in it. All I would find if I did would be shards of ceramic and an IOU.
Do you people actually stop and read what you have written? Do you ever sleep with the vile and hatred you spew? Go back right now and read what you wrote today. We can all see you are not Christians but there still is usually some sense of morals and decency in most people, but take a look at yourselves. It is one thing to be liberal, but it is another to spew hatred day after day after day, the same people.
Romney is promising the same thing Reagan and Bush promised. A 20% tax cut. Millions will vote for him solely on that promise. Greed and self interest is a powerful tool. Do you really think many would vote for the right wing agenda? Someone currently paying $10,000 would save $2,000. Hopefully our grandkids can pay it back. Screw the country, vote greed.
We have a choice between a Mormon and a Moron.
I'll go with the Mormon
You'll all call each other morons,
Thanks for helping me with my check list of the day...-
----------------------------------------------------------
I told my doctor I broke my arm in two places. He told me to keep out of those places.
- Rodney Dangerfield
So you are voting for Mitt as he is BOTH a mormon and a MORON.
Sandy Missouri - well said. As we know Mitt changes his mind so much it's not surprising the old fat guy thinks he's two people!
Obama/Biden 2012
You must be so proud of your Mormon today, " The ad is cynical and politics at its worst" comment from a spokesman for GM on Romneys ad about Jeeps going to China. I did not know much about the Mormon religion until the Mitt came along. If this is an example of how the church thinks it is OK to lie, not impressed at all. Obama is not a Moron, you know it and I know it. But we do know the Mitt is a Mormon that lies. The Mitt scares me to death, I have no idea who is, what he is, or what he really thinks. Just a plastic man saying whatever he thinks the people want to hear. This is crazy!
And I guess you believe the President on the Libya-gate deception which he refuses to answer questions about? Did you forget all the promises the President made in 2008 to get your vote, I believe most of those turned out to be fibs. Remember the 5 days to see all bills, no earmarks, no lobbyists, cut deficit in half, pass the stimulus and unemployment will be below 5 percent, how many lies are you voters willing to accept from the President, Commander-in-Chief, sad. Bengazhi embassy fiasco resulted in dead Americans, Seals rule!
Wow, it Halloween and here is the real scary thought that any decent, honorable person with true American values supporting the Constitution fears!!! Imagine Obama winning the election next Tuesday and how mediocre our country will become with him giving the ok to destroy the country for another 4 years. That is the biggest scare and problem for America. Scream!!!!! Scream!!! Make it Stop!!!! We find out that liberal/progressives can't take off their masks after tonight because, it is who they really are. Labor Union Socialist thugs, hippie dippy leftist brain dead college professors, Obama free phone lunatics, The sky is falling environmentalists with no desire to work. Lets let brain dead progressives ride their tricycles or ride the bus because, Obama tells us that Oil companies are evil and green energy won't be affordable for several years so lets just let gas prices go through the roof and food prices follow because, Valerie Jarret has told us "Unemployment is good for the economy" and all of this to please Obama? No thanks!!! Um Um Obama!! Time to fire Obama!!!
Heck no to Mormons!!!
Obama.Biden for a better future and country
Here too!
With Romney you get both.
