Updated 4 p.m. ET — Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney's campaign doubled down on its assertion about auto industry jobs moving to China with a new radio ad in northwest Ohio.
A Romney for president ad airing on Toledo, Ohio's classic rock station, WXKR, strongly insinuates that President Barack Obama's 2009 bailout of the auto industry has led to jobs shifting from the United States to China.
The narrator in the ad says:
Barack Obama says he saved the auto industry. But for who? Ohio or China? Under President Obama, GM cut 15,000 American jobs, but they are planning to double the number of cars built in China which means 15,000 more jobs for China. And now comes word that Chrysler plans to start making Jeeps
is starting to build carsin, you guessed it, China. What happened to the promises made to autoworkers in Toledo and throughout Ohio? The same hard-working men and women who were told that Obama’s auto bailout would help them. Mitt Romney grew up in the auto industry. Maybe that’s why the Detroit News endorsed him saying ‘Romney understands the industry and will shield it from regulators who never tire of churning out new layers of mandates. Mitt Romney – he’ll stand up for the auto industry. In Ohio, not China.
The radio spot follows a TV controversial ad playing to fears that Chrysler had plans to move production of Jeeps from the U.S. to China. Romney and other Republicans had previously given voice to errant reports suggesting such a shift, though those original reports referred only to capacity for production of vehicles in China for sale in China.
The TV ad drew extensive coverage in the media for its suggestion that Jeep was moving jobs to China at the expense of positions in the United States. Toledo, a prime swing territory in the battleground state of Ohio, is home to a major Jeep production facility.
The radio spot goes a step further in stoking fears that U.S. production of Jeeps would be moved offshore to China.
As First Read wrote on Monday, this series of ads — running during the closing days of the campaign — mark an effort by Romney to re-frame his opposition to the auto industry bailout and defend himself from Obama's attacks on the issue.

Romney was the best candidate Republicans could come up with. Integrity, actual positions on issues, plans for the job, and persopnal history were not criteria Republicans considered important. If Fiat starts producing jeeps in China for the Chinese market then those jeeps made in China will not be produced here and sold to china. We need to sell jeeps to China in order to help lower our trade deficit. There is no national minimum wage in China. Provincial minimum wages over there are around $200 dollars per month so with cheaper labor it will end up costing less to make Jeeps in China. Once they satisfy the local Chinese market they will probably start producing jeeps for the world market. Since it costs more to make them in the US I can foresee Fiat closing down US jeep production facilities in favor of production in China. It is a simple matter of money and profits. To compete for our own markets, companies have to either lower their production costs of government has to take action to protect US manufacturers from foreign competition.

Chrysler has already said it is simply re-starting production in China that it used to already have but had shut down because of the recession.
Jeep has no intention of reducing US production and is actually in the process of expanding US production and upgrading plants.
It's cheaper to build in China for the Chinese market than it is to build them here and then ship them.
By the way, guess who ran Chrysler into he ground to begin with? Dan Quayle and John Snow were on the Board of Directors of Cerberus Capital.
Guess who owned Chrysler before Cerberus? Daimler-Benz.
Re-Elect, thank you for reading my post and commenting. I believe that Fiat will find that it is cheaper to build jeeps in China for the entire world market, including the US. They pay their so much less over there than they do here.
The only reason Jeep is restarting production in China is that in order to sell in China you have to work together with a Chinese company based in China.
If the Chinese maintain such rules against selling American made products then we should bar them from selling their products here. We need fair trade. We need to do what it takes to eliminate our trade deficit. It is our trade deficit that is keeping our economy from turning around.
So Obama saved the auto industry by selling Jeep to the Italians so that they can manufacture Jeeps in China? And this is helping the U.S. economy how? Another shiny object distraction by the Obama campaign and sympathetic MSM despite the correct facts presented by the two pro-Romney ads.
Still waiting to hear why Obama did not act to save our Ambassador and several other Americans at the hands of terrorists after their calls for help while under attack in Benghazi. And why he invoked Executive Privilege over documents after DOJ lied to Congressional investigators looking into Fast & Furious. And how he conned America into a huge middle-class tax increase, as qualified by the US Supreme Court, after arguing for an individual mandate in Obamacare. This election is about a failed presidency, not frabricated assertions about Mitt Romney's character.

This has already been proven to be false and yet Mr. Romney keeps saying it. Any supporter of Romney's should be concerned that he will completely disregard the truth and continue to make statements that he knows are false in order to get votes. May tell you what kind of President he would be.

When if fact he supported the same structured bankruptcy that Obama ended up following after shoveling out billions in taxpayer money. The facts are that while the ad does insinuate that the jobs would be moved to China, it dances around it saying:
"Obama took GM and Chrysler into bankruptcy and sold Chrysler to Italians who are going to build Jeeps in China. Mitt Romney will fight for every American job"
The message is that the expansion of Jeep production will happen in China and not here.
While I am not too sure that a President should be getting into the inner workings of businesses (which is a danger in itself), Mitt Romney's policies are more likely to make production here more attractive.
Mitt Romney supported a structured bankruptcy, much like American Airlines, etc. have gone through.
The company needed to shed its bad debt and the only way to do so was through bankruptcy. This does not entail "shuttering" it as Obama has lied about. He also lied when saying Romney didn't want to provide government loans, this is in the editorial. Reading obviously isn't Obama's strongsuit....neither is math.

What you miss is the actual question that was asked before Mitt Romney's 47% comment. The question revolved around how to break through and win the election, how Mitt Romney could win.
In the context Mitt Romney was mentioning the 47% floor of Obama's electorate. Which according to the current polling data is accurate.

propagandaa misleading ad, this could get interesting. Romney is making an interesting gamble. He is gambling that this blatant falsehood will be able to fool the masses. If he thinks 47% of us are lazy moochers, it wouldn't be a stretch for him to think we're all stupid. He just may be right, although he risks looking as foolish as he did in the second debate if there's a massive push back by dems on this. It actually reeks of desperation. Kasich was saying Sunday that their internal polling suggested he was ahead in the state, but if he were ahead, he wouldn't risk getting caught in the stench of what is becoming the biggest whopper of the campaign season.

...but any reasonable person can see that the gist of the message is "Chrysler is going to move jobs to China at the expense of U.S. workers." That is very clearly what they want people taking away from this line of advertising/speechmaking.
Throw in the fact that they use China as the villian instead of Italy (because one Fiat executive is actually on record, last year, as saying some Jeep production MAY be moved to Italy - had Romney mentioned it, he'd have been telling the truth), and you get the idea that there's some subtle xenophobia/race-baiting going on as well.

The ad should read: 'But for WHOM?" It looks like they're already cut back on literacy--sort of Head Start without Big Bird.
If Romney is elected it will be fair punishment for racists, including the majority of Republicans. Just because President Obama blocked the free fall of the economy into total collapse and depression, it does not mean that Republicans will not return to their vomit and finsh off the economy by releasing the animals on Wall Street and applying their brand of voodoo economics. Romney has spent the past thirty years creating jobs in China.

Seriously, this is but one of myriad examples of Romney's flipflopping win-at-any-cost efforts. If he wins, who knows if we'll get "moderate Mitt" or "severely conservative" (his own words) Mitt? From all his opportunistic inaccuracies and blatant lies over time against opponents in the primaries and general election, its impossible to know what he'd actually do. Give in to the neocons, perhaps? Hire Donald Duck and Goofy to implement his nonexistent economic plan?
Not sure how many ppl actually check the facts (I didn't go through all the post above). But I was curious to see who actually OWNS Chrysler at the moment. And sure enough, according to Fiat, Chrysler is a 58.5% owned company by them ().
