Updated 4 p.m. ET — Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney's campaign doubled down on its assertion about auto industry jobs moving to China with a new radio ad in northwest Ohio.
A Romney for president ad airing on Toledo, Ohio's classic rock station, WXKR, strongly insinuates that President Barack Obama's 2009 bailout of the auto industry has led to jobs shifting from the United States to China.
The narrator in the ad says:
Barack Obama says he saved the auto industry. But for who? Ohio or China? Under President Obama, GM cut 15,000 American jobs, but they are planning to double the number of cars built in China which means 15,000 more jobs for China. And now comes word that Chrysler plans to start making Jeeps
is starting to build carsin, you guessed it, China. What happened to the promises made to autoworkers in Toledo and throughout Ohio? The same hard-working men and women who were told that Obama’s auto bailout would help them. Mitt Romney grew up in the auto industry. Maybe that’s why the Detroit News endorsed him saying ‘Romney understands the industry and will shield it from regulators who never tire of churning out new layers of mandates. Mitt Romney – he’ll stand up for the auto industry. In Ohio, not China.
The radio spot follows a TV controversial ad playing to fears that Chrysler had plans to move production of Jeeps from the U.S. to China. Romney and other Republicans had previously given voice to errant reports suggesting such a shift, though those original reports referred only to capacity for production of vehicles in China for sale in China.
The TV ad drew extensive coverage in the media for its suggestion that Jeep was moving jobs to China at the expense of positions in the United States. Toledo, a prime swing territory in the battleground state of Ohio, is home to a major Jeep production facility.
The radio spot goes a step further in stoking fears that U.S. production of Jeeps would be moved offshore to China.
As First Read wrote on Monday, this series of ads — running during the closing days of the campaign — mark an effort by Romney to re-frame his opposition to the auto industry bailout and defend himself from Obama's attacks on the issue.

Fiat is also going to make Jeeps in Italy and EXPORT them to the US.
Marchionne, who turned around Fiat inearly a decade ago and led Chrysler’s restructuring over the last four years, said the combined Chrysler and Fiat must embark on one more restructuring plan.
"“This is truly not for the faint hearted. We have not shied away from a fight going back to 2004,” Marchionne said. “I think we have to do it one more time, and I think we have to do it …in a way that provides a permanent solution to (the European) quandary.”
Under the plan, Fiat will produce a small Jeep SUV in Italy that is not currently made anywhere else in the world. That SUV will be sold both in Europe and in the U.S., and will not shift any planned U.S. production.

There is no shift in any planned US production. Therefore, not current US jobs will be shipped to Italy - by definition it is not outsourcing.
Fiat is creating a new Jeep model for sale in Europe and US and keeping their plants busy. Guess what, they own Chrysler.
So why can't FIAT build those JEEPS HERE? After all it costs money to ship them across the Atlantic. Didn't Toyota,Honda and others build plants here to produce their Autos HERE and save money??
They're primarily for sale in Europe. Cheaper to make them there.

Fiat, which owns U.S. carmaker Chrysler, also will unveil a new smaller Jeep for production in Italy aimed primarily at Europe, and focus the Fiat brand on the 500 and Panda compact car ranges.

That same day Romney said:

Oct 30 CBS news quoted that day's blog post by Fiat-Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne when he said this to confirm what Bloomberg.com FIRST reported and Romney REPEATED.
"We are working to establish a global enterprise and previously announced our intent to return Jeep production to China, the world's largest auto market, in order to satisfy local market demand, which would not otherwise be accessible," Marchionne wrote in his blog post.
So in all 3 cases the same is being said, but Romney gets attacked for REPEATING it? Man you guys are something!

Romney told an intentional lie. Romney isn't quoting Bloomberg. Notice he never said, "I'm quoting the Bloomberg article."
He is actually quoting a right wing nut hack:

When I see Mitt Romney buddying up with the reigious right, with the intent to revoke Roe v. Wade, and making all these high and mighty, holier than thou claims, and then see all of his blatant, obvious, lies in his advertising, and his comments that he isn't interested in having a factual (fact check) campaign, it is very obvious that this is NOT a man of faith as he isn't following one the basics of the Ten Commandments - Thou Shalt Not Lie.
You can't have it both ways, especially if you claim to be such a God-Loving man. This is a black and white issue; politics be damned. There are no "semantics" or "wordsmithing" with the truth. The truth is not partial or rearranged. You know the truth, and you know what's not the truth. You also know what's a misrepresentation of the facts which leads to misunderstandings of the truth, which is just as dishonest as telling the lie.
Mitt Romney claims to be a pious man. It's time to put his money where his mouth is. Fix his ads and publish his corrections immediately. Do this with an apology for the world to see. Don't do it and it proves he's has no morals or ethics, and should never step foot in the White House, even as a visitor because I'd be afraid he'd steal the silverware.
NBC should be ashamed of themselves. Print the entire ad, print about how Romney is doubling down on this and yet not one word on what is reality - that they're building jeeps in china for china.

There are times when the reading of a newswire report generates storms originated by a biased or predisposed approach.
On Oct. 22, 2012, at 11:10 a.m. ET, the Bloomberg News report“Fiat Says Jeep® Output May Return to China as Demand Rises” stated “Chrysler currently builds all Jeep SUV models at plants in Michigan, Illinois and Ohio. Manley (President and CEO of the Jeep brand) referred to adding Jeep production sites rather than shifting output from North America to China.”
Jeep is not moving all production to China as Romney said.

Jeep is re-opening China-based production that has been closed since before Fiat took over. Every car company that wishes to sell vehicles in China must build them in China in a joint venture with a Chinese automaker.

Romney's very first add included a deliberately misleadingly clipped quote of Obama, in which he was quoting McCain in a speech in 2008, where they cut out the part where he states he's quoting McCain and presented as if Obama actually said those words as his own. Sure the words themselves were correct, and Obama did say them, but remove the context of how they were said and it presents the exact opposite of what they were meant to present originally.
So it is with this series of adds.
Romney's entire campaign from beginning to end has been nothing but an endless string of blatant lies.
Previous politicians have tried to fudge the truth or twist it or omit it, but no one has ever outright and blatantly lied to the extent that Romney has this year. Ever.
If the American voter rewards this odious campaign strategy, it will doubtless become established as the new normal for political campaigning. Is this what the American people want for the future of their democratic system?
If you love democracy you cannot reward this kind of behavior. It doesn't matter anymore what Obama has done or who he is. He could be a piece of cardboard and it is still essential to vote for him now. Because Romney cannot be allowed to win. The odious political strategies he has employed need to be punished at the ballot box, or else they will spread like a lethal toxin and poison the entirety of American political discourse.

No, the ad is NOT factually correct. The add takes a series of sentences that are in correct when standing alone and assembles them into a paragraph that is a utter blatant lie.
