Romney doubles down on Jeep attack in radio ad

Updated 4 p.m. ET — Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney's campaign doubled down on its assertion about auto industry jobs moving to China with a new radio ad in northwest Ohio.

A Romney for president ad airing on Toledo, Ohio's classic rock station, WXKR, strongly insinuates that President Barack Obama's 2009 bailout of the auto industry has led to jobs shifting from the United States to China.

The narrator in the ad says:

Barack Obama says he saved the auto industry. But for who? Ohio or China? Under President Obama, GM cut 15,000 American jobs, but they are planning to double the number of cars built in China which means 15,000 more jobs for China. And now comes word that Chrysler plans to start making Jeeps is starting to build cars in, you guessed it, China. What happened to the promises made to autoworkers in Toledo and throughout Ohio? The same hard-working men and women who were told that Obama’s auto bailout would help them. Mitt Romney grew up in the auto industry. Maybe that’s why the Detroit News endorsed him saying ‘Romney understands the industry and will shield it from regulators who never tire of churning out new layers of mandates. Mitt Romney – he’ll stand up for the auto industry.  In Ohio, not China.

The radio spot follows a TV controversial ad playing to fears that Chrysler had plans to move production of Jeeps from the U.S. to China. Romney and other Republicans had previously given voice to errant reports suggesting such a shift, though those original reports referred only to capacity for production of vehicles in China for sale in China.

The TV ad drew extensive coverage in the media for its suggestion that Jeep was moving jobs to China at the expense of positions in the United States. Toledo, a prime swing territory in the battleground state of Ohio, is home to a major Jeep production facility.

The radio spot goes a step further in stoking fears that U.S. production of Jeeps would be moved offshore to China.

As First Read wrote on Monday, this series of ads — running during the closing days of the campaign — mark an effort by Romney to re-frame his opposition to the auto industry bailout and defend himself from Obama's attacks on the issue.

You mean the same poll that shows that more Romney voters have already voted than Obama supporters?

It also says that more elderly people are inclined to vote early....and we all know they break Republican.

But hey, get excited....just like Bears fans did a few years ago when Devin Hester returned the opening kickoff of the Super Bowl against the Colts for a TD....that worked out well for them in the end, didn't it?

LOL! Even the CEO of Chrysler/Jeep denounced and called Romney out on his lies. Looks like Mormons have no problem lying through their teeth.

Mormonism excuses deceit when the deceiver does so in service to the faith. It is doctrine.

Romney sees his campaign as doing the work of God, hence he believes that as the lie comes from his mouth he is cleansed of both the sin and the shame.

          The original lie:

"Mitt Romney campaigned in Defiance, Ohio, last night, and rolled out a new argument. "I saw a story today that one of the great manufacturers in this state, Jeep, now owned by the Italians, is thinking of moving all production to China," he said."

              The original truth:

Every time you have an occasion to take something from the federal government and send it back to the states, that’s the right direction. … Instead of thinking in the federal budget, what we should cut — we should ask ourselves the opposite question. What should we keep? We should take all of what we’re doing at the federal level and say, what are the things we’re doing that we don’t have to do? … We cannot afford to do those things without jeopardizing the future for our kids. It is simply immoral, in my view, for us to continue to rack up larger and larger debts and pass them on to our kids, knowing full well that we’ll all be dead and gone before it’s paid off.

At no point did Romney ever say FEMA was “immoral” or that he wanted to abolish it. What he did say is that we should ask ourselves what FEMA should and shouldn’t be doing, and then only pay for what’s needed.

The operative word in Romney's fear mongering is: "thinking" of moving all production.... Something HE never does!

It was published first by Bloomberg. . .

Why, I saw last night on the internet that Mitt Romney is an alien from the Mormon planet Kolob, who plans on kidnapping children and shipping them by starship to Kolob, where they will be ceremonially cooked and eaten.

I read it in an article....some people are saying it....

And just think, I didn't lie anywhere in this entire statement. :)

                      #106.5 - Tue Oct 30, 2012 5:29 PM EDT

Bloomberg never said anything about, "moving ALL production to China."

Romney is referring to a blog post at the Washington Examiner by Paul Bedard, which intentionally distorted the Fiat statement.

If you know anything about the auto industry you know their biggest problem with producing an affordable car, is the difficulty of being able to sell it in many countries. Unfortunately it is too costly to build cars in the US and ship them to China, or practically any other country for that matter. Especially if those cars have to conform to country specific standards, and in many cases the cars that are produced here do not sell well in other countries due to many factors. That's why the US doesn't see a lot of small, fuel-efficient diesels like the Europeans have... we just won't buy them because most of the US is used to big, gas-guzzling SUVs. So, it only makes sense to setup factories in the countries where you plan to sell your cars. That way you cut down on shipping costs and the cars can be manufactured to appeal to the local population. The local labor costs would also make the cars more affordable to the residents of whatever country it is being built in. In the same manner, Jeep would not build cars in China only to have them shipped to the US. Also give them credit for knowing that they would suffer irreparable harm if a Jeep showed up in the US with a "Made in China" sticker on it. So, Jeeps will continue to be built and sold in the US and Chrysler (and other US car companies) will open factories in other countries where it makes financial sense to do so. Our biggest threat of automotive out-sourcing is probably Mexico.

Every car company that wishes to sell vehicles in China must build them in China in a joint venture with a Chinese automaker. There is no plan or idea for the company to build Jeeps in China that would be exported back to the U.S. Chrysler maintains a huge manufacturing plant in Toledo, Ohio to build Jeeps, and Fiat has been investing in that facility and growing the employment there."

The Republicans in Congress have all been doing everything possible to stall or prevent recovery, just to blame the president. Anti-Americanism is Republican strategy.

You really think Democrats had no hand in this economy? Oh what a sad, sad person you are. I believe both parties suck that's why I'm independent. People need to try and look at the middle for a change and Obama is not that middle. Romney may not be the best, but his qualifications are much better than Obama's.

Obama's rise in '08 reminds me of how Billy Ray Cyrus came to be. Record and marketing execs got together and asked if they could make someone out of no one. They found a song and created a dance. Found a good looking guy (the women think so) and he was born. Obama had a great marketing team behind him with a flashy slogan. And boy, what a song and dance. I believe race had something to do with it as well because now many of the African Americans that didn't normally vote came out in support of him.

McCain had the foreign policy credentials and the domestic ones as well. The song and dance won out.

The race for the White House is coming down to the wire, and the closer this contest gets, the greater the chance it could be decided by electoral shenanigans.

Though voter fraud affects everyone, it has turned into a highly partisan issue. Republican efforts to strengthen laws to require voter identification and an audit of voter rolls have met persistent challenges from Democrats and the Obama Justice Department. Democrats pretend such fraud is imaginary and allegations to the contrary must be manifestations of racism. This argument not only has a corrosive effect on the political culture, it is demonstrably untrue.

Independent investigations across the country have identified serious systemic problems. An audit by Election Integrity Maryland found cases of deceased voters still on active rolls, duplicate voter registrations and people listing vacant lots or business addresses as residences. In North Carolina, investigations discovered several thousand voters listed at the age of 110. Another 30,000 turned out to be deceased. Sometimes these are just paperwork errors, but other times something far more troubling is going on.

Maryland’s 1st Congressional District Democratic challenger Wendy Rosen was forced to withdraw from the race in September after she admitted casting ballots in both Maryland and Florida. In Philadelphia, there are precincts where voter turnout surpasses 100 percent of those registered there. In North Carolina, some early voters noted that their touch-screen ballots for Mitt Romney were defaulting to Barack Obama. Local election officials said the problematic machine needed “calibration.” However, this illustrates the frightening potential for deliberate fraud in electronic and computer-based voting. Without a physical record, there’s no way of verifying whether anyone was disenfranchised. We may one day look back on the “hanging chad” as a bulwark of democracy.

The Obama campaign has made early in-person voting part of its end-game strategy, rushing supporters to the polls before they have a chance to change their minds. This, too, is an invitation to fraud. Human Events reported that non-English-speaking Somalis were being taken by the busload to vote early at Ohio polling places, shepherded by Democratic minders. The Buckeye State’s early-voting system only requires a person to fill out an absentee vote form and present identification such as a utility bill, bank statement or other document with a name and address on it before casting a ballot. Such documents are easily forged and essentially unverifiable.

Patrick Moran, who was serving as field director for his father, Rep. Jim Moran, Virginia Democrat, is under police investigation after being caught on video last week by undercover auteur James O’Keefe describing in detail how this type of fraud can be committed. “You have to forge it,” the younger Mr. Moran can be heard saying. “It’s got to look good.”

Those potentially engaged in election-altering fraud may think the game ends on Election Day, but it doesn’t. The country is well past the spirit of the razor-close 1960 election in which Richard Nixon declined to challenge tainted Illinois ballots because he didn’t want to divide the country. Al Gore changed all that in 2000. Evidence of widespread fraud in 2012 could lead to recounts, electoral-vote challenges, or worse. Enforcing voter ID laws and regularly cleaning the voter rolls would go a long way toward ensuring the worst never happens.

But they have been trying to make it very difficult for minorities, students, and the elderly to register to vote, have purged registered voters off the rolls, have gone on registration drives and sorted out all forms with the Democrat box checked and destroyed them, have had a concerted program of intimidating minority voters for many years, attacked ACORN for "fraud" (they were found by investigation not to have perpetrated any fraud) and have "lost" ballots between the precincts and collection points. Individual fraud is practically non-existent and accomplishes nothing.

But, the Republican Party this year has become "Fraud-R-Us". Expect arrests and trials after the election. Investigations are under way in about 30 states, and perpetrators have been Republicanindividuals, organizations, and contractors.
