The government’s real high-wire act: beginning the recovery… Don’t expect a delay with next week’s election… But election precincts could be moved… Something’s happening out there: The number of named storms has increased every decade… Could the election all come down to the auto bailout?... Make no mistake: The Romney camp wouldn’t be airing that Jeep ad if it were ahead in Ohio… But the map expands to Minnesota and Pennsylvania… And Romney holds a storm-relief event in Kettering, OH, while Bill Clinton campaigns in Minnesota and Colorado.
President Obama had planned to be in Colorado and Wisconsin today, and former Gov. Mitt Romney was headed to New Hampshire, but both have cancelled all of their own public events and are instead battling it out under the radar. NBC's Chuck Todd reports.
*** The government’s real high-wire act: Now with Sandy moving away from the East Coast, the real impact begins today -- assessing the damage, realizing what happened, and the government (federal, state, and local) beginning the recovery. And this is the true high-wire act for President Obama and his administration: making sure the recovery and relief begins immediately and as smoothly as possible. Every hiccup could get amplified; that’s the real political danger for the president. Then again, he has the bully pulpit and a job to do. Already, the late-night calls to Republican Gov. Chris Christie are public (thanks to Christie, not the president, by the way). Meanwhile, as we said yesterday, Mitt Romney, might be in the trickier spot. He has no job to do right now -- he can’t look overtly political. Romney today is doing a relief event, which means no politics. But the setting? It’s very political: Ohio.

A woman touches a fallen tree in Manhattan's Alphabet City neighborhood in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy in New York October 30, 2012. Millions of people across the eastern United States awoke on Tuesday to scenes of destruction wrought by monster storm Sandy, which knocked out power to huge swathes of the nation's most densely populated region, swamped New York's subway system and submerged streets in Manhattan's financial district. REUTERS/Andrew Kelly (UNITED STATES - Tags: DISASTER ENVIRONMENT)
*** Don’t expect a delay in the election: Could Sandy cause a delay in the election, which is supposed to take place exactly one week from today? NBC’s Pete Williams says it’s possible -- but very unlikely. Per Williams, the Constitution gives Congress the authority to establish the day for presidential elections, and since 1845 a federal law has set the date as "the Tuesday after the first Monday in November." Congress could change the date any time it wants, just as it could change any federal statute. But it would have to act quickly. What’s more, Williams adds, it’s the states, not the federal government, that RUN elections in America. Many states in areas not affected by Sandy's wrath would be likely to oppose a delay and its attendant costs. They could choose to go ahead with their elections for all but president and have a separate election for president later. But such a move would undoubtedly suppress the turnout. Finally, Williams says, consider that never before in U.S. history has a presidential election been postponed or canceled, not even during the Civil War.
*** But election precincts could be moved: That said, one of us talked with senior administration officials and learned that FEMA head Craig Fugate has informed states that the federal government would reimburse them to move polling places and import generators to conduct the election next week. Fugate himself has experience with this in Florida. The state, in 2004, had to move polling places for a primary because of power and other storm-related issues. The most likely scenario has FEMA essentially helping the states open as many polling places as possible; you’ll also likely see various state governments decide to allow displaced folks to vote in different polling stations provisionally. And it will likely mean a potential messy counting situation. But a delay is very, very unlikely.
MSNBC's Chris Jansing talks with NBC's Pete Williams about the impact Superstorm Sandy may have on the election, and the issues that would surround a possible postponement of the presidential election.
*** Something’s happening out there: Your First Read authors don’t pretend to be meteorologists or Dr. NOAAs, but it’s hard not to look at the following data and conclude that something is indeed happening out there when it comes to the climate. Simply examine the history of named storms in the Atlantic. As many of you may know, a storm doesn’t get a name until it reaches Tropical Storm status. And the names are given each year alphabetically. For decades, getting to the back half of the alphabet was VERY rare. Now? Very common. Take a look: In the 1970s, there were just an average of under eight named storms per year; in the 1980s, the average was just under nine; in the 1990s, it was about 11; in the 2000s, it jumped again, to nearly 15 storms a year; and -- get this -- in the first three years of this decade (2010, 2011, 2012), the average is under 19. Specifically, we had 19 named storms in 2010, 18 in 2011 and, SO FAR, we’ve had 19 named storms (and there’s an entire month left in hurricane season).
*** Car Talk: Mitt Romney loves cars. His father headed a U.S. auto company. And he even launched his 2008 presidential campaign from the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, MI (taking the stage to Billy Ocean’s “Get out of my dreams, get into my car”). So here is the irony of this presidential election: It could all come down to Ohio (where one in eight jobs are tied to the auto industry) and Romney’s opposition to federal government’s auto bailout. As NBC’s Mike O’Brien wrote yesterday, the Romney campaign’s effort to muddy the waters on the auto bailout -- misleadingly suggesting that Jeep is outsourcing U.S. jobs to China -- is its latest tactic to play defense on the issue. The Obama camp responded with its own ad yesterday. “When the auto industry faced collapse, Mitt Romney turned his back,” the ad goes. “And now, after Romney’s false claim of Jeep outsourcing to China, Chrysler ITSELF has refuted Romney’s lie. “The truth? Jeep is ADDING jobs in Ohio.” It concludes, “Mitt Romney on Ohio jobs? Wrong then… Dishonest now.” And stumping in Youngstown, OH yesterday, Bill Clinton fired back, calling it “the biggest load of bull in the world that [Chrysler’s Jeep] would ever consider shutting down their American operations.”
*** As GM goes, so goes Obama’s presidency -- and the election? Here is the bottom line regarding the Romney camp’s Jeep ad: It gives the impression that they’re trailing in Ohio. Otherwise, they never would have resorted to this kind of TV ad; it’s the feel of going nuclear. As we wrote in 2009, after the federal government’s takeover of GM of Chrysler, “As GM goes, so goes the Obama presidency.” But little did we know back then that Romney’s own opposition to the bailout could be the issue that possibly saves Obama in a very close election.
*** Expanding the map: Today, Bill Clinton campaigns for Obama in Minnesota, where a recent poll showed the president with just a three-point lead (although another poll had him with a larger advantage). Also, the Obama campaign announced yesterday that it would begin to advertise in Pennsylvania, given that the pro-Romney Super PAC Restore Our Future is up with a big buy there. And a new poll findsObama leading Romney by just six points in Oregon, 47%-41%. (Obama won Oregon by 16 points in ’08, but John Kerry carried it by only 4 points in ’04.) This goes back to what we were talking about yesterday: Romney definitely has momentum outside the main battleground states; that’s why the national polls are sitting where they are. But not much has changed in the battleground states, where the advertising is going on. But it is also a reminder if that somehow there is a tipping point in this election that hits the battlegrounds, Romney has a shot at getting a much higher electoral vote figure than perhaps many folks realize. Bottom line: The chances of Romney getting 52-53% of the popular vote are much greater than Obama.
*** On the trail: Most of the campaign activity has been cancelled or delayed due to Sandy: Romney attends a storm relief event in Kettering, OH at 11:00 am ET… Bill Clinton stumps in Minnesota, hitting Minneapolis at 10:30 am ET and Duluth at 1:00 pm ET before heading to Colorado… And Ann Romney is in Iowa.

WHERE ARE YOUR TAX RETURNS GOVERNOR ROBME?
BIGGEST LIE AD FACTORY = ROMNEYRYAN BUILT THAT.
The latest grotesque deception via Romney-Rove-Ryan-Adelson is a series of JEEP Ads. Built upon previous lies, their latest $$slander says that President Obama~sent~Jeep~jobs~to~Italy~and~then~Italy~ sent~them~to~China.
Really? A President? Or did they mean a CEO did that?
Chrysler-Jeep responded "A professional acrobat couldn't have achieved the misrepresentation of truth, that Mr. Romney has achieved".
The Romney campaign is the most expensive, malicious Lying Machine in Election history. And how could we forget the sound of Romney trashing "47%" of our nation as no-account moochers? Therein was the biggest clue to Romney. For behind close doors, Romney made a cunningly elitist statement of belief, with no basis in reality.
Autoworkers and families in OHIO, please sit up and take note. Because the RomneyRyan Jeep ad is a fear-mongering & unbelievably dumb lie, aimed right at You.
Today’s WSJ has an editorial scoffing at Barry’s big new idea to demonstrate he is really not the most anti-business President in recent history. So, what’s his “big new idea”??
No surprises here: Add a new Cabinet-level Secretary. That’s the problem with Barry, his ONLY solution to EVERY problem is “more government”.
What was it Einstein said about insanity?? Oh yeah:
“Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”
Morons.
Nobama 2012 Really, Things Could Be Worse-
Give Me Four More Years and I’ll Prove It
Excerpts from the WSJ (emphasis added):
Secretary of Say What?
Obama now says he wants a cabinet officer for business. Seriously.
The brain trust behind President Obama's re-election campaign has a new idea, and what a revelation it is. A week from Election Day, Mr. Obama has disclosed to the voters that in a second term he'll create more private jobs by creating . . . one more government job.
Specifically, and all of a sudden, Mr. Obama wants a new Cabinet-level post that will be known as the Secretary of Business. "I've said I want to consolidate a whole bunch of government agencies," he said Monday, in a performance that captured his Presidency in miniature. "We should have one Secretary of Business, instead of nine different departments that are dealing with things like getting loans to SBA [the Small Business Administration] or helping companies with exports. There should be a one-stop shop."
Maybe Republicans would have opposed the Secretary of Business if they'd learned about it somewhere besides cable news, but who knows? The reasons could include turf, but also the fact that the government already has an agency with a "focus on expanding the American economy and job creation" and that "invests in America's long-term growth and competitiveness"
It's called the Department of Commerce, with its very own Secretary, and the quotes in the preceding paragraph are how the White House describes its mission in its 2013 budget. Mr. Obama wants to expand Commerce spending by 5% to some $8 billion annually. Extra credit goes to anyone who can name the acting Commerce Secretary. No Googling.
Perhaps nobody knows who Rebecca M. Blank is because the real Secretary of Business in Mr. Obama's first term has been Valerie Jarrett, his Hyde Park confidante turned White House fixer. Ms. Jarrett knows nothing about business or the economy, with the possible exception of the political economy of the Chicago wards, which may explain why the Administration's idea of helping business has been to dispense subsidies and other favors to politically favored donors and their green energy firms.
The reality is that most businesses don't want their own cabinet department. They'll invest more and hire more workers if Washington would impose fewer costs, reform the tax code, and stop trying to allocate capital for political reasons. Rebuilding business confidence doesn't require a Secretary of Business but a new President.
"even the Governor of NJ agrees" Don't get your panties in a bunch, this is just what it feels like to take the high road. Try it sometime.
So Navy/Backhouse you want it both ways as usual.
Did Obama save Chrysler or did Fiat and the Italians save Chrysler?
You folks whine about no private money being available yet Fiat stepped up and financed Chrysler without any problems at all and it seems to be working out pretty well for them.
Amazing what can happen when Car Guys run a Car company as opposed to the Government.
Q: Since MYTH hates government; why doesn't MYTH donate some of his millions (we know MYTH has millions; but just not HOW many millions since he won't divulge his taxes) or ask Bain capital for help with the Hurricane Sandy victims since he and republican hate the government?

Chris, Bev, a good Tuesday to you both.
Chrysler tried counteract Romney's ad "fantasies". (Chrysler-Jeep's term for Romney's lie/delusions.)
But their statements didn't stop the Romney-Ryan/Rove auto search & destroy mission. So one more bridge to the Auto Industry burned by Romney.
Romney's "Let the Auto Industry Go Bankrupt" approach to the industry, was NO fluke.
I think for intelligent voters, the election should come down to this: Who is the REAL MITT ROMNEY, and can you trust him?
Is it the Mitt Romney who publically says:
Or is it the Mitt Romney, who when he thinks no one is recording him, says candidly:
Is it the Romney who opposed the auto bailout in a NY Times Op Ed:
This same Romney also criticized the auto bailout after the fact. In an editorial in the Detroit News, Romney accused Obama of "crony capitalism" in the bailout and said the companies would have been better off without Obama's intervention. "Instead of doing the right thing and standing up to union bosses, Obama rewarded them".
Or the Romney who supported the President’s actions at the latest debate:
Or the Romney who (again) seems to disagree with the President’s actions in his latest ad:
(of course, that statement is a BIG FAT LIE – Jeep confirmed that due to their strength in America they are expanding operations into China in order to sell more Jeeps into the Chinese market. Jeep flatly stated they have NO plans to move ANY American jobs to China, in fact they are expanding production in Toledo.)
I think any intelligent voter should take a hard look at Mitt Romney and try and decide if he is the person you trust enough to lead your country.
How can you be sure that the Romney you vote for will be the Romney who shows up?

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie Praises President Obama for Sandy Response
Christie told ABC’s George Stephanopoulos that Obama called him on Monday night around midnight to ask if there was anything else the federal government could do to help. Christie added that they worked together to move forward with a Major Disaster Declaration for New Jersey.
“He worked on that last night with me…offered any other assets that we needed to help,” Christie said. “I want to thank the president personally for his personal attention to this.”
Appearing on Fox News, Christie said the storm is bigger than the election.

The president should have put economy before HC, I'll concede that but, otherwise his only sin has been expecting positive numbers to convince the public that he is doing the best that can be done. The republicans would have done amost the exact same things the potus has done if they wanted to get things rolling and they know it.
Anyone who votes republican now rewards them for wreckless, spoiled, rich brat behavior over the last 4 years because they SAID they were not going to work with the potus on anything and they SAID their most important task was not helping out this nation but rather was to make Obama a one term president. Sorry. No votes for that attitude.

The problem for you FR guys is, you believe in SCIENCE!
The RWNJ's believe the Earth was created only 5000 years ago & man walked with dinosaurs!
Mother Nature is PISSED & the sooner the Fred Flintstone of the world recognize it, the better!
Even the likes of Sheldon Adelson & the Kock Suckers don't have enough money to bribe her!
If Romney wins he can do virtually ANYTHING he wants to do because he has flipped so many times on so many issues that he can always point to *some* time when he said he would do it that way...whatever "that way" is... If he wins get ready to get kicked in the nuts, middle class.
Joe in Albany -
It seems that both you and the WSJ have been inflicted with the Republican aversion to math. From your post:
Only in Republican fantasy-land would consolidating nine different departments into one, thereby streamlining many government responses to business needs, be "creating more government".
I continue to be amazed at how much Republicans struggle with basic things like Math, Facts, and Truth.
Do you need to repeat Kindergarten? A kindergartener could probably explain to you how 'One' is less than 'Nine'.
Sirie-
Yes, that is the only way to sell more Jeeps in China.
I hear McDonald's is opening several new restaurants in China. Will that impact jobs here in the US?
Like I said, struggles with Facts......
Chris,
We know RomneyRyan would destroy the middle class given the chance. Imagine a crassly persistent dishonest Romney, working on U.S. foreign policy or the economy?
Imagine the insanity of Romne's gaffes, and his inability to decipher ordinary situations. The dramatically unexpected. What of real interviews?
Romney took us to first base on his Crookery Agenda, by not showing his tax returns. So much is concealed, and so much has been purchased by the $Big Money machine, enforced by Voter Suppression GOP-ers across the nation...
Who wants not one, but two Norquistians, at the beck and call of Adelson/Transnationals in the White House?
Looks like the "auto bailout" might just be Romney's Waterloo. Puts his foot in his mouth again. Lies again. And thinks we're so dumb we won't notice. What an idiot. As the Rev says, "WE GOT YAH". And wait till the LATINO vote kicks in. He thinks their to "DUMB" to vote. Boy is he in for a surprise. The liars going down.

Obama says, "Stand down America"
NObama 2012!!!
Praise for Obama?....what did he do? Swim out and assist stranded citizens?
Romney is not president......yet. Don't blame him for anything.
Also, Obama is now worth millions$ himself.
If you want to talk about a 3 am phone call, what happened in Libya?
While Governor Chris Christy's bombast and bully talk annoys and angers me at times, one thing I have always liked about him shows in his comments today as well as last year. I also remember him lambasting the critics of his decision to appoint a Judge who was Muslim and gave Christy a big cheer for it.
I prefer President Obama who believes the federal government has a huge role in disasters rather than one like Romney who thinks federal aid is "immoral".
Only an idiot would not see how businesses are leaving due to the climate in America. We have the HIGHEST corporate tax in the WORLD! Harley Davidson was talking about moving to India, you think Jeep would admit if they were leaving? The union workers would have fits and work would stop.
Good news- the storm did little damage in my little corner of New Jersey. We lost a couple of tree limbs, and the neighbors lost some big, old, trees- but, thankfully, none of the trees hit any of the houses. Our prayers go to those not so lucky.
Also, our donations. The Red Cross is doing yeoman's work assisting those devastated by the storm-please consider aiding them in their work.
PSA over.
I must admit that I was somewhat skeptical about the Minnesota poll that showed Romney and Obama essentially tied- then, this morning, I read that Bill Clinton is going there to campaign.
Incredible.
Attention:
Calls For Cutting FEMA Are Not Coming From Inside The White House
As Hurricane Sandy approaches the northeast United States, the left is attempting to politicize the storm, attacking Republican nominee Mitt Romney and his running mate, Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI), for wanting to shift more responsibility for disaster relief from the federal government to the states.
They ignore the fact that President Barack Obama's proposal for the upcoming budget sequester would cut nearly $900 million from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, including disaster relief, food and shelter, and flood management at both the federal and state levels.

Paul #'s -- If it was up to Romney and Republicans they would cut the budget drastically for FEMA. Or funneled monies to private industry.
I’m not sure about everyone else, but I know I send taxes to the government to PAY FOR GOVERNMENT, not to line the pockets of business.
We pay FOR the GOVERNMENT we want. Romney and Republicans, in general, would just steal your money by eliminating programs that are important to you. Think FEMA, EPA, Medicare, Social Security etc.
Republicans couldn’t care less about you.

More from friend's findings on Mitt Romney, most has already been discussed or revealed, yet, it needs to be known. The full document is loo long to post at one time:
Gov. of Mass.
Mitt Romney BOUGHT the Governor’s seat of Mass. just like Rick Scott did in Fla.(60% of his campaign funds came from his own pocket)
Approx. 1 billion in new taxes.
Romney claims bi-partisanship as Gov. of Mass but:
To this day legislature still talk about how he tried to Govern like a CEO and dictate to the Legislature!
Used veto 600 times
250 vetos overturned by Legislature!!!
When he took office he announced to the legislature " I am going to show you how to really get money out of the Federal Gov't!!"
Balanced the budget. 2/3 of deficit was paid by federal Gov,t (A BAILOUT)
The other 1/3 he made such devastating cuts to Education Schools had to increase tuition by 63%
State population shrunk as people fled Mass. under his leadership( if you can call it that)
Obama leading in Mass. by about 15 points!! (They still remember Romney)
He went to the Olympics because of the Mormon church. Who owns most of Salt Lake City? Mormons! What group of businessmen stood to make a fortune from the Olympics? The Mormons!!!
After one term even his own party didn't want him for a second term!!! (Governor)
The people of Massachusetts love Republican governors. They elected 4 in a row, one after another for 17 years of Republican leadership.
After one term with Romney at the helm, the people of Massachusetts elected Deval Patrick, the first Democratic governor in 17 years.
Mitt Romney campaigned like the slick salesman he is, but once in office, the real Romney emerged. Romney raised every fee in Massachusetts, including certificates for the blind, TB tests, even tripling the cost of a gun license.
He was responsible for the 2nd largest per pupil education budget cut in history.
He gutted funding for social services, assistance for poor children in Massachusetts.
Romney left the state of Massachusetts with one of the lowest approval ratings in the nation, in the low 30's. #48 of 50 Governors!
The people of Massachusetts know him best. The people of Massachusetts overwhelmingly support President Obama.
Our analysis reveals a weak comparative economic performance of the state over the Romney years, one of the worst in the country.”-Andrew Sum and Joseph McLaughlin, Center for Labor Market Studies, Northeastern University, Boston Globe, 7.29.07
During Governor Romney’s term, Massachusetts fell from 36th to 47th out of 50 states in job creation, while the overall U.S. economy grew.
By the end of Governor Romney’s term, Massachusetts had lost more than 40,000 manufacturing jobs—a rate twice the national average.
Gov. Romney raised taxes on the middle class, but pushed through a tax cut that overwhelmingly benefited 278 of the wealthiest individuals in MA.
Under Mitt Romney, Massachusetts’ debt burden grew to the highest per person in the nation.
State spending increased every year while Romney was in office, and he left behind a $1 billion deficit for the next governor.
Governor Romney failed to protect good jobs in Massachusetts, and actually outsourced state jobs to India.
Mass. schools had a #1 rating long before Romney took office but he mentions this rating like he had something to do with it!!
His last year in office he wasn't even in the state for 200 of 365 days. Gone more than he was at work!!!
I never thought of what I do for a living as job creation. … The primary goal of private equity is to create wealth for your investors.
–Marc B. Wolpow, former managing partner at Bain Capital, the firm where Mitt Romney was CEO, who worked closely with Romney for nine years Los Angeles Times, 12/3/11
Jobs: 47th out of 50 states in job creation
Taxes and fees: Increased by $750 million per year
Long-term debt: Increased more than $2.6 billion
Has no Original Ideas of his own. Even the structure at Bain was set up by Mr. Bain and then left for Romney to run.
His entire campaign has been him trying to imitate others.
His entire platform was written by others and he just memorizes what his position should be.
HE is a copycat, fake , fraud, true "strawman" candidate.
He went 7 or 8 months in the primaries and never once mentioned the middle class. Then President Obama began his campaign and started talking about the middle class. A couple weeks later all of the sudden Romney says he is all about the middle class!! Funny you never mentioned them before??????
The President made a case that Romney couldn't relate to the average American. A couple weeks later all the sudden Romney is twisting a quote from the President trying to say Obama is out of touch and can't relate to the average American! There are many more examples. Romney can't think for himself he does what he is told, or copies someone else!!
And wasn't it Mitt who said I'm not concerned about the poor, they have the safety net programs to help them out!!!! How much does that sound like It's not my job to worry about the 47% who depend on some type of help from the Gov't!!!!
And those two statements were months apart. Coincidence? Not likely!
But that also leaves the big question of what is his position going to be the day after inauguration should he win????? There is no telling what position he may find most convenient when he no longer has to be concerned over peoples votes.
There is nothing sincere about Mitt Romney. He is a chameleon, a straw man candidate, or maybe just a puppet being told what position to take at this time by the puppet masters.

Hey, you're the white collar auto guy, the one with the inside information. Why don't you tell us? Be sure to get it straight, because you also wrote,
Perhaps you'll be good enough to explain how Chrysler seemed to have government financing as a part of the managed bankruptcy. Fiat did NOT pony up all the cash.
Finally, to polish your zero-value credentials you wrote,
Yes, quite amazing. Chrysler is the outfit that has required TWO - count 'em TWO - bailouts thanks to the fabulous management skills of you and your white collar buddies. We stand in awe of you white collar Car Guys. What will you do for an encore?
Before Hurricane Sandy the experts said it would take a week to 10 days to get power restored and services back on line. You can be sure that Rommdumb will say it is taking too long and his friends at FOX will find some Bengazi connection to the whole thing. If the jobs report is too good it will be cited that it was rushed through and isn't correct. If it is bad it will of course be Obama's fault not just the companies like Bain sending even more jobs over seas!

Romney does NOT have momentum. According to Nate Silver and several other statisticians who analyze aggregate poll results, Romney's momentum stalled more than two weeks ago. Of course, Nate Silver is He Who Must Not Be Named to Chuck Todd and the other beltway pundits.
For awhile now we conservatives have been arguing that there is something wrong with the liberal media and it's pollsters using the 2008 election turnout as a baseline to determine the voter distributions for their polling samples. For those who are not aware, in 2008 the Democrats managed to turn out in numbers 7-8% greater than Republicans, a feat they hadn't equalled for literally decades. This has led many pollsters to sample Democrats and Republicans using at least this same disparity.
There are many reasons that make it difficult to believe that Democrats can equal their 2008 performance which include:
Enthusiasm among young voters is down.
Enthusiasm among hispanic voters is down.
Single women are not supporting the Obama/Biden ticket in the same numbers they did in 2008.
Independent voters are not supporting the Obama/Biden ticket in the same numbers they did in 2008.
Republican enthusiasm is way up.
Yesterday I happened across an article on the Gallup Polling website entitled: U.S. Electorate Looks Like 2008. Although at first glance, this title might lead one to believe that the Gallup statistics would support the liberal polling methodology, consider the following found at the bottom of their table of statistics:
2004 2008 2012
% % %
Democrat 37 39 35
Independent 24 31 29
Republican 39 29 36
Democrat/Lean Democrat 48 54 46
Republican/Lean Republican 48 42 49
Note: 2004 and 2008 estimates are based on final Gallup Pre-election polls. 2012 estimate is based on Oct. 1-24 Gallup Daily election tracking.
Note that according to Gallup's statistics, when comparing respondents who identified themselves as Democrats to those identifying themselves as Republicans, Gallup has the distribution at + 1 Republicans; and when considering Independents, this number rises to +3.
Now before you dismiss this as anomalous, bear in mind that Gallup's polling has been within the margin of error on predicting the outcome of the past dozen or so Presidential elections. Also, the sample size that generated the 2012 numbers above was nearly 10,000 which is HUGE and increases the statistical integrity of the results which is why the margin of error for these numbers is only +/- 1.
I'll leave it to the reader to decide what this all means in light of the current polling data out there, but it certainly has changed what I believe.
Ask your pub's if they think we could lower corp taxes if there was no corporate welfare, genius.

Now that Obama has the auto industry back on its feet, the corporate "car guys" can knock it back down again. That's the likely encore.

OBAMA IN 2012.
Obama is doing great. Romney is doing OK as long as his Ohio fund drive doesn't become a campaign drive. Honestly though, I can't help but feel Mitt will use his fund drive to help victims as something political. We'll see what he says in his speeches.
Funny how Chris Dorr, ahoy sissy, wants to see Romney's taxes yet has no desire to see the smartest man's ever! credentials. So Im curious why not Obama's college records? You think a narcissist like Obama would have his degrees plastered all over the white house, his personal I love me wall. Perhaps he doesnt want his records shown because either his grades do suck or he got college aid as a 'foreign' exchange student. NO you say, the Demigod would never lie, cheat or steal. Only Romney does that right?
Then we have the LWNJ's like Feisty that believe the hurricane is a product of Global warming er climate change. Buy a VOLT SAVE A SEAL.

It appears the ad might be true?
____________________________________________
The rumor...and all it is is a rumor....is that Jeep may move some production of Jeeps to Italy.
What Mitt Romney said in his speech, and what the ad insinuates, is that Jeep production is moving to China.
What Romney said, and the ad, are false.
If he had actually mentioned the real article that says Chrysler MAY move some production to ITALY, then he'd have been telling the truth, and maybe he'd have made a valid point.
But he and his campaign knowingly and willfully lied about China.
But then, China is more "foreign" than Italy, and more Americans are afraid of losing jobs to China, so it's better to mention China, to get people scared.
It's also, when you consider it, actually quite racist. No one is afraid of Italians, but the Chinese, on the other hand....
Joe HAHAHAHA
It amuses me every time I see a wing nut misuse that Einstein quote. Unlike President Obama, Einstein really WAS a socialist. HAHAHAHAHAHA.
This storm disaster story brings out the true character of Romney, Ryan and republican party.
1. Romney said during the primaries he would end FEMA and that it should be privatized. Always thinking of a way to make a profit from anything. Adding a middle layer of profiteers that would raise costs higher to those in need, and slow any kind of recovery or process it would take to solve the problems created by the disasters.
2. Paul Ryan's budget plan slashes billions from the FEMA funding it uses to provide disaster relief for those in need. Clearly not in the interests of the country when he offsets those slashes to FEMA for lower taxes for the GREEDY 1% like Romney.
3. Republicans have been obstructing funding FEMA for years since Paul Ryan and republicans pledged against the nation, the very night President Obama took office, to vote against any bill that would make President Obama look good in the 2012 elections. Obstruct and vote against the nation they did. Like voting down funding for FEMA on 9-13-11, stopping disaster aid to tornado victims in Mo. Repubs blocked aid to disaster victims a number of times, including blocking the investigation on the BP oil spill in the south. Deliberately hurting AMERICANS suffering from storm disasters in their hour of need, just to take the president down at the next elections.
NOT ONE AMERICAN SHOULD VOTE FOR ANY REPUBLICAN WHEN THEY DON'T STAND UP FOR AMERICA. REPUBLICANS STAND UP FOR GREED AND LOVE OF $$$$$ OVER AMERICANS.
VOTE PRESIDENT OBAMA/BIDEN AND TEAM AMERICA, THEY PROVED THEY HELPED AMERICANS WHEN THEY NEEDED HELP, BY TURNING THE ECONOMY AROUND AGAINST THE WISHES OF REPUBLICANS!
And Obama worships ONLY HIMSELF!
:OP
Albany Joe, looks like you have a fan base, it would appear your HAHA's get a lot imitation, the sincerest form of flattery. Good job
The president is doing so well with this storm that even republicans are praising him. This storm will remind the people what kind of president we have. The president is being the president and not a candidate as he should be.
Meanwhile, Mitt can't just sit on his hands and broadcast ads lying about Jeep. He is using his campaign bus to move supplies into affected areas even though the Red Cross says his efforts only inhibit the aid they are so good as supplying. They would have to unload these supplies and repackage them before reloading them, rather than using prepackaged supplies that can get supplies where they are needed quickly. Also, Mitt will continue his campaign with rallies for "additional supplies" that the Red cross doesn't want. As usual, the Red Cross says if you want to help, send cash, not Romney's campaign bus. Do us a favor Mitt, and do what you said you would and stay out of it and stop campaigning! It makes you look un-presidential, if you needed more help with that.
WATCH ROMNEY TRY AND ACT LIKE A DEMOCRAT NOW THAT THE ELECTION IS ON THE LINE AND SAY HE IS FOR FEMA...AFTER HE SAID IN THE PRIMARIES HE WOULD KILL IT AND PRIVATIZE IT.
RYAN BUDGET CUTS THE HELL OUT OF FEMA FUNDS AND REPUBLICANS WON'T FUND FEMA JUST TO MAKE THE ECONOMY WORSE, JUST TO TRY AND BLAME IT ON OBAMA AT THE ELECTIONS!!! ROMNEY AND REPUBS FOR A WORSE TOMORROW TODAY!
Senate Republicans block FEMA disaster relief funds in 2011 to keep America from recovering.
Romney hired 17 of 24 of his advisers from the same failed regime of Bush Cheney. Remeber how they failed during Hurricane Katrina? Why would you vote for Bush Cheney failed team, why vote for republicans who try to hurt Americans by defunding FEMA that would help Americans recover from disasters? If Romney was sincere about disaster relief he would fire his team.

A package of disaster relief funding worth $7 billion was blocked from coming up for a vote by Senate Republicans on Monday, drawing sharp condemnation from Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) who lambasted the conservative party for abandoning Americans in need.
“Last night, Democrats tried to move forward on a measure that would have granted the Federal Emergency Management Agency additional funding to help communities devastated by natural disasters,” Sen. Reid said in an advisory.
“This ought to be the least political issue going – whether to reach out a helping hand to our friends and neighbors in their time of need,” he continued. “They have lost friends and loved ones. Their homes, businesses and livelihoods have been destroyed by acts of god. Their communities are under water or reduced to rubble.
“It’s in our power to help them. But last night Republicans overwhelmingly voted to prevent us from coming to their aid. They prevented us from getting disaster aid to American families and businesses that need it now.”
The vote was 53-33, with Republicans uniting against measure that would have brought the aid package to a vote and put a rush on some emergency funds. A 60-vote majority was required to pass it.
“They don’t need help next week or next month,” Reid railed. “They need it now. They need it today.”
He added that because of the increased number of natural disasters this year, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has just over $300 million left. President Barack Obama has issued disaster declarations in 48 states since the beginning of 2011.
The funds are so low, Reid said, that FEMA has stopped rebuilding the town of Joplin, Missouri, which was practically destroyed by tornadoes earlier this year. It withdrew funding for the Joplin rebuilding in order to provide food and shelter to the victims of Hurricane Irene.
Gingerbread,
Romney used his veto more than 800 times and it was overturned 707 times. He was out of state 417 days in his 4 years. He raised fees on everything he could. Fees or taxes it's still money out of your pocket.
Romney is an avoidable disaster.

A few things to keep in mind when reviewing raw numbers like this. There are a lot of storms named now that never would have been named in the past due to better satellites and better knowledge of tropical cyclones. This year has featured several named storms that never made it to land and lasted only a day or two without breaking the 45 mph mark. Even accounting for that, there has been an increase in activity in the last few years...no question about that. Dr. Jeff Masters over at Weather Underground has written quite a few articles on the subject and it is a worthwhile read.
And I said it quite a few times before and I'll say it again at the risk of being repetitive...Craig Fugate is the man!!!!! Best appointment President Obama made by far. He continues to do Florida proud!! :-)
REPUBLICANS LEAVE A TRAIL OF DESTRUCTION OF AMERICAN LIVES REFUSING TO FUND AID FOR FEMA!
REPUBLICANS PREVENT THE ECONOMY FROM GETTING BETTER!
THEY WILL DO IT AGAIN AFTER HURRICANE SANDY!
REPUBLICONS AND ROMNEY DO THEIR BEST TO STOP GIVING AID TO DISASTER VICTIMS. ROMNEY WANTED TO KILL FEMA. REPUBS KILLED FUNDING FOR FEMA WHEN AMERICANS NEED HELP.

REPUBS HATE FEMA AND DEFUND FEMA TO MAKE THE NATION FAIL AND SUFFER!

Republicans Block FEMA Funds For Disaster Relief
Posted by Leo Soderman on 9/13/11 • Categorized as News,Opinion
We have mentioned before (here and here) about how Eric Cantor has said he will block relief funds without offsetting cuts. He threatened to do it with funds for relief in Joplin, MO after their devastating F5 tornado, and again with Hurricane Irene. Apparently, the outcry about his positions did nothing to change the Republican mindset, and last night they voted to block a FEMA funding bill, never allowing it to come to a vote. Via Raw Story:
So – flooding victims aren’t getting the funds, and the people of Joplin are being victimized again, not by an act of God but an act of Senate Republicans. Keep in mind that this wasn’t a vote to deny the funds. It was a vote to deny the funding ever being considered. Maybe they thought that if it didn’t come up for a full vote, they could sweep it under the rug. I have a hunch those folks who have lost homes, businesses – even family members – won’t be so eager to see this swept away without full consideration.
Disaster relief is one of the things that government is best suited for. But as the constant drone from the right tells us, we should have no government. That somehow, these people should be able to fend for themselves when these disasters happen. As Ron Paul said in the CNN/Tea Party Express debate, that’s freedom.
In this case, it’s the freedom to lose everything you own and care about, and not get any help in recovering. I hope the folks in these hard-hit areas remember who pulled the rug out from under them when the 2012 elections roll around.
Yeah, the crisis brought out the real Romney- he set up his campaign offices for aid stations, and used his buses to evacuate people. Obama hopped on Air Force One, flew to Florida, and then someone told him how bad that might look, so he turned around and flew back to DC.
2010′s BP oil spill, decisive leadership at the top was clearly needed. But again, Obama was passive. The federal bureaucracy moved sluggishly, bereft of direction from Obama. Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal was out in front on the local response, but faced delays as the Administration dragged its feet. Public anger again turned first on BP, but this time, voters noticed that Obama wasn’t reacting like a leader, contributing to his falling job approval ratings.
Obama has rarely been out in front of the response to domestic natural disasters, from his arms-length response to 2009′s ice storms in Kentucky to belatedly visiting New Orleans, after Mitt Romney, following Hurricane Isaac last month.
Not one person should vote for the sham man in office now, vote Romney/Ryan to get America on it's feet, not at the trough. 2012- the end of an error
What was it Einstein said about insanity?? Oh yeah:
“Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”
Is that why Romney has hired the Ex-Bush, neocon, people for a new American century, warhawks.

***MORE: Obama's Early Vote Advantage Collapses 22-Points Over 2008
Very early on, before this campaign started in earnest, live or die, I publicly cast my lot with Gallup and Rasmussen. As a poll addict going back to 2000, these are the outlets that have always played it straight. It's got nothing to do with politics and everything to do with credibility and not wanting to kid myself. So when an outlet like Gallup tells me Romney is up seven-points, 52-45%, among those who have already voted, that's very big news.
Just as Gallup did with their bombshell survey showing that 2012 is looking like a year where Republicans will enjoy a record three-point turnout advantage over Democrats (a ten-point shift from 2008), for whatever reason, they buried the lede with this latest bombshell, as well. When you consider the fact that the CorruptMedia's been talking for weeks about how Obama's crushing Romney in early voting, you would think Gallup proving that Narrative a big fat phony lie would be news. Instead, though, they bury this explosive news at the bottom of a piece headlined: "In U.S., 15% of Registered Voters Have Already Cast Ballots".
Sounds like a nothing story, right?
Except waaaaay at the bottom we learn this:
Thus far, early voters do not seem to be swaying the election toward either candidate.
Romney currently leads Obama 52% to 45% among voters who say they have already cast their ballots. However, that is comparable to Romney's 51% to 46% lead among all likely voters in Gallup's Oct. 22-28 tracking polling. At the same time, the race is tied at 49% among those who have not yet voted but still intend to vote early, suggesting these voters could cause the race to tighten. However, Romney leads 51% to 45% among the much larger group of voters who plan to vote on Election Day, Nov. 6.
When Gallup says early voters don’t seem to be swaying the election, presumably what they means is that because Romney is ahead by five points nationally, an early voting advantage of seven-points isn't going to "sway the election."
Romney's early voting lead in Gallup may not jive with the CorruptMedia narrative, but it does with actual early vote totals that have been released and show Romney's early vote totals either beating Obama in swing states such as Colorado and Florida or chipping away at the President's advantage in the others. For example, here's what we know about Ohio's early voting numbers, thus far:
But here is what we do know: 220,000 fewer Democrats have voted early in Ohio compared with 2008. And 30,000 more Republicans have cast their ballots compared with four years ago. That is a 250,000-vote net increase for a state Obama won by 260,000 votes in 2008.
Something else in this Gallup survey also helps shed some light on what we're seeing in these sometimes counter-intuitive state polls. As the headline states, Gallup is showing that only 15% of the public has already voted. Moreover, they've broken down early voting by region and show that in the Midwest only 13% of voters have already voted. And yet, many polls in places like Ohio show a much higher percentage of early voters, some as high as 30%, which you can bet skews the data. In other words, those polls can't be correct.
Other than the fact that this is Gallup, another reason to embrace this poll is due to its very large sample size of 3,312 registered voters.
At the risk of sounding too much like a weather nerd...the statistic that most meteorologists use to define how active a hurricane season was is ACE - Accumulated Cyclone Energy. The top hurricane seasons by ACE are:
1. 2005
2. 1950
3. 1995
4. 2004
5. 1961
6. 1955
7. 1998
8. 1999
9. 2003
10. 1964
Notice that there is nothing in the 1970's or 1980's...cyclically, this was a down period after an active 1950's and 1960's.
To back up FR's point though, 2010-2012 are all considered above normal.
THe earth is billions of years old, has known cycles both large and small, and everything from sun spots, solar flares, and ocean currents play a role in the climate. Telling me that you have looked at the last 100 years of data and can come to a conclusion of what is going to happen and why it is happening is just stupid. This kind of "science" is very weak and has been proven to be wrong on most of its predictions. Measuring my driveway and coming to a conclusion of how round the world is and how much is covered by concrete would be the same kind of science.

I read the Bloomberg article and it says absolutely nothing about moving production of Jeeps from American to Italy. Producing Jeeps in Italy doesn't mean they would stop production here. The Bloomberg article says that Fiat is thinking of producing cars for America in Europe because of the Europeans debt crisis and conservative austerity measures which leaves Europeans with less money to buy cars. While conservative austerity has kept Europe from recovering from the global economic mess that G.W. Bush started, the Obama recovery in the US is strong enough now that Americans are buying more cars. With rising demand, more cars could be shipped from Europe to America without production being cut back at American plants.
"Only in Republican fantasy-land would consolidating nine different departments into one, thereby streamlining many government responses to business needs, be "creating more government".
I continue to be amazed at how much Republicans struggle with basic things like Math, Facts, and Truth.
Do you need to repeat Kindergarten? A kindergartener could probably explain to you how 'One' is less than 'Nine'."
The sad part is that 50% of Americans apparently can't add or see through is obvious pandering and are willing to vote for a guy that outsourced or out right fired people for profit and believe his flip flopping BS.
Mitt has a Gold card membership to the same club that destroyed our economy he believes in them and only them and I for one am not ready to give them the keys back so soon. Mitt says it will take him 8 years so why not give Obama 8 years??? I guess its that math thing again.

What you said is just ignorant. Climate scientists have looked at ice cores going back thousands of years and other kinds of evidence. What they've found is that every time CO2 concentrations go up, so do temperatures. CO2 levels have increased due to natural forces in the past. But the evidence is overwhelming that CO2 levels are going up now because of human activity. Those are the facts.
1.) Was Chrysler sold to an Italian Company? - Yes
2.) Are they planning on building Jeeps in China? - Yes
Where is the lie?
Obama will not screw up the response to this storm. No president (whether "D" or "R") will fail in this way again. The whole system was restructured and refunded following Katrina. Lots of eyes focused on the matters at hand.
Hard to praise Obama for being "presidential" when all he is doing is what he is suppose to do.
Good form yesterday with Romney turning his campaign stops into a plea for donations and assistance to the Red Cross. This is exactly what he should have done... Another good move!

HOW HOUSE REPUBLICANS WOULD MAKE IT HARDER TO PROVIDE HURRICANE RELIEF!
Ref thinkprogress.org
By Aviva Shen on Oct 29, 2012 at 10:25 am
Red Hook, Brooklyn flooded on Monday morning
The East Coast is bracing for the ever-strengthening Hurricane Sandy, which will affect 50 million people when it makes landfall on Monday evening. President Obama has declared a state of emergency in 7 states and DC, allowing them to receive federal funds for emergency disaster assistance.
Depending on the outcome of next week’s election, future victims of natural disasters may not be able to receive the same kind of assistance. Mitt Romney has suggested shutting down FEMA and turning disaster relief over to private companies. Meanwhile, House Republicans have repeatedly attempted to slash funds for disaster preparedness and response in 2011:
With each major natural disaster in 2011, House Republicans dug in their heels over providing disaster relief. They repeatedly demanded the funds be offset by other spending cuts in the budget — even as a deadly tornado tore through Missouri, an earthquake shook Virginia, and when Hurricane Irene struck the east coast last year.
The politicization of disaster relief is likely to continue; the House Republican budget ignored a bipartisan agreement to make it easier to fund disaster relief, instead insisting again that spending cuts offset the emergency aid.
So now guys like David Walker think that the government saved GM? You guys think that Romney's math doesnt add up, lets take GM and Chrysler. First, let me give you some simple math lessons you guys dont seem to get. These companies were making an operating profit and lets say it was $100 dollars. But they had interest and principle payments of greater than $100 dollars and the debt was coming due and both companies didnt have access to debt to refinance. So they both filed for bankruptcy protection and because of the bank crisis, they couldnt obtain temporary financing so the government appropriately stepped in (as both Romney and Obama agreed they should have). However, the difference is that the Obama administration instead of allowing the bankruptcy to play out under normal rules, he eliminated the lenders debt and gave ownership of the company to the unions and didnt go through a process that would have made GM's business model more efficient. So GM came out of bankruptcy making $100 dollars just like it did before with no debt and all of you geniuses go look how great GM is doing. Well No, it is making money like it always did and would have without the crony capitalism payment to the unions. Now GM continues to have a broken business model that as they add debt over time will cause them to go bankrupt again. So David walker explain to me again how Obama saved the auto industry?
Second, I love how all of you Obama rose colored lack of critical thinking supporters dont connect the Chrysler building a plant in China to sell to Chinese customers as being inconsistent with your constant attacking of Romney and Bain and inconsistent with Obama's tax proposal to target companies who have foreign sales with the higher rate of tax. You realize that Obama's proposal to eliminate the deferral on US tax for foreign profits would actually kill jobs and hurt companies like GM and Chrysler who want to sell cars to China but if they have to pay a 35% US tax on profits while Toyota only has to pay a 15% Chinese tax on profits, then Toyota can sell their cars so much cheaper and no jobs will be created anywhere for US companies. You also realize that companies offshore jobs many times just as Bain did because they have foreign sales and need to lower costs to compete against foreign competition. The hypocrisy and lack of real critical thinking by the Obama campaigners on here is amazing when you have people like David Walker, Jen and Seeking Sanity calling the Romney supporters idiots at every post and you want to say Really?
My post was directed at First Read who made the absurd statement of..... Your First Read authors don’t pretend to be meteorologists or Dr. NOAAs, but it’s hard not to look at the following data and conclude that something is indeed happening out there when it comes to the climate. They then went on to go all the way back to 1970 (Sarcasm) as there data history. It is surprisingly stupid, and not fit for being put in an article.
As for your Climate Scientist claims, I would just say that yes most think carbon emissions do play a role, but to what extent and what measures should be taken there is no agreement.

For many years, Ford cars have been produced and sold in Great Britain. This has not curtailed production in the United States. Romney has decided that Jeep and Chrysler are not allowed to do the same thing. Jeep has been hiring more Americans, but Romney lies and feels he will get away with this whopper as well as the hundreds of other lies the press has been giving him a free pass on. Let Americans see Mitt for what he is in his closing ad campaign, a pathological liar, and ask yourself if this is the man you want in the White House, or do you want the man who is suspending his campaign FOR REAL to aid the American people with FEMA, the organization Romney promises to cut.
One last point on hurricanes and I'll be quiet...maybe. LOL!
If you look at the Eastern Pacific basin, there is not a single season in the 2000's with an ACE in the top 10 all time. There most active seasons were the 70's, 80's, and 90's. The exact opposite of the Atlantic basin. So there is a cyclical component.
However, the overall number of storms across both basins has seen an increase of late.
BP
Romney's quote was the lie.
Yeah Jeep and Harley are considering making product in the market where they will sell the vehicles much like Toyota, Honda, Hyundai and countless other Foreign Car companies that build here in the US with US workers. They avoid High Tariffs and shipping.
You want me to prove your point for you? Good Argument.
I listened to the ad and want to know what in the ad is a lie. Does it maybe paint an unfair picture? Maybe, but does it lie like you all are claiming? NO
After all the ads against Romney that are unfair and stretch the truth you are going to go out and cry foul. Please you just look like poor losers.

In OH, with 18 electoral votes, Obama's lead is holding at 1.9%.
FiveThirtyEight currently gives Obama a 73.3% chance of winning OH.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
In VA, with 13 electoral votes, the race remains tied.
FiveThirtyEight currently gives Obama a 57.8% chance of winning VA.
.
In CO, with 9 electoral votes, the race remains tied.
FiveThirtyEight currently gives Obama a 55.4% chance of winning CO.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
In FL, with 29 electoral votes, Romney's lead has fallen to 1.3%, down from yesterday's 1.4%.
FiveThirtyEight currently gives Romney a 64.7% chance of winning FL.
.
In NC, with 15 electoral votes, Romney's lead is holding at 3.0%.
FiveThirtyEight gives Romney an 81.4% chance of winning NC.
.
For Obama to win re-election, the least complex route appears to be through maintaining his current lead in the four toss-up states in which his existing margins are widest, PA, MI, NV, and WI, together with OH where his lead has been hovering at a vulnerable 2.0% for the past few days. Doing so would bring his electoral vote total on Election Day to 271. In this scenario, Obama could still surpass 270 while failing to hold either IO or NH.
However, should Obama fail to hold OH, the loss could effectively be neutralized by any of the following combination of wins from states where FiveThirtyEight is currently predicting Obama victories:
Path #1: Obama loses OH but wins IO, NH, and CO resulting in 272 electoral votes.
Path #2: Obama loses OH but wins IO and VA resulting in 272 electoral votes.
Path #3: Obama loses OH but wins CO and VA resulting in 275 electoral votes.
However, regarding Path #1, there is some question as to the accuracy of the RCP polling numbers in NH which still include in their average a recent 'outlier' finding from UNH which had Obama leading by a questionable 9.0%.
For Romney to unseat Obama, he not only would have to hold the two states in which he presently leads, FL and NC, bringing his electoral vote total to 235, but also steal victories in CO where his lead fell from 0.4% on
Friday to that of dead heat, in VA where his lead fell from 1.0% on Saturday to another dead heat, and finally with OH where Obama's lead this morning is 1.9%. By so doing, Romney's electoral vote total would reach 275.
Should Romney take CO and VA but fail to take OH, he could overcome this shortfall by stealing WI and either IO or NH, resulting respectively in an electoral vote total of 273 or 271.
FiveThirtyEight, at present, estimates the chance of Election Day victory for each candidate as follows: Obama 72.9% - Romney 27.1%.
FiveThirtyEight also projects that on Election Day the final electoral tally will be as follows: Obama 295 -Romney 243.
Lastly, although it makes no difference in terms of the final result which can only be determined by the Electoral College, FiveThirtyEight also projects a national popular vote distribution on Election Day as follows: Obama 50.3% - Romney 48.8%.
With only 157 hours of campaigning left, this one may come down to the wire….and to the October jobs report which because of Hurricane Sandy may be delayed from a scheduled Friday release to the following Monday, one day before the election.
Let's hope that Election Day is free of both voter fraud and voter intimidation and that eligible voters who have registered in good faith over the past six months are in fact able to vote on November 6; let's also hope that vote tabulation itself is performed honestly and accurately by both the election commissions and private corporations to whom this essential role is being entrusted.
In any case, it will be interesting to watch as election night unfolds.
Mitt Romney's emergency plans - get rid of FEMA, leave it to the states, and no disaster relief from the federal government. I guess he thinks diaster relief should go private. Boy you guys on Wall Street - do I have a deal for you!
Obama/Biden 2012
Mr President,Sir: Many people, and a large part of our Country are close to devastation today. We need your singular focus on the whole of this tragedy. We look to your caring, thoughtful leadership to provide us the tools we so desperately need to overcome that, which, if politicized or left unattended, will yet overcome us. You are our President. We need your help. Please keep us informed. We need to know. Sincerely, 60 million Americans
Forgot to say it earlier...but I hope that everyone up North came through the storm ok. Haven't heard from a few regulars up there, so hopefully all is well.
No Jo...glad to hear your house came through ok...has to be a relief when you are stuck far away from home. And glad to hear your family is ok too.
Mac...were you affected by the storm? If so, I hope all is well with you. :-)
Hiccups are the least of Americas concerns.
It's the Obamarrhea we've had to put up with for 4 years that's destroying our nation.
Incompetence in domestic, economic and foreign policy have become intolerable.
The social experiment of 2008 has turned out to be an abysmal failure. A junior senator whose only governance consisted of a few picnics in Chicago as a community organizer and writing a couple books, ABOUT HIMSELF, have proven to be catastrophic for our great Republic.
It's time to put an end to this nonsense. A POTUS who promotes mediocrity instead of American exceptionalism is not what American's need.
Demonizing the successful that have created the greatest economy in history will never recreate the wealth, prosperity and standard of living we are accustomed to. Class-warfare and this dysfunctional envy meme of the rich is typical of a statist elitist whose only concern is his own legacy.
It's time to evict this imposter who has been trespassing in our White House for 4 years and replace him with a real leader.
Hopefully the unwashed masses who voted for Barrack Hussein in 2008 to pretend they weren't racist don't make the same mistake in one week and prove their ignorance too.

My heart felt sympathies to ALL AMERICANS in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.
Campaigning goes on ... yesterday a Reuters reporter in Pakistan reported he was able to make 2 campaign contributions to the Obama campaign one for $75 and one for $175 both in the name of Osama Bin Laden ... move America forward yeaaaa ....
He also tried to do the same on the Romney campaign website both contribution were rejected.

The facts do not agree with you. Over the next year, GM is projected to have earnings growth of 13.70%. (Source: http://money.cnn.com/quote/quote.html?symb=GM ).
So while it might be a lovely idea in your own little universe that GM is wildly inefficient, they are not only making money, they are expected to make more money every year than the year before, for the next five years. At least.
Yea, it's too bad that the prediction of sea rises and of larger and more powerful storms is already been borne out. Don't worry, though. You just stick your little head back in the sand. Global warming is a hoax. Nothing happened in New York. It's all bright and sunny there. All the pictures are a liberal conspiracy.

A couple years ago, I read that some scientists think that the strength of hurricanes is not much affected by increased temperatures because as the entire Earth warms up, ocean temps and air temps go up together, and it's the difference in those temps that drives the hurricane's heat engine.
What is known is that the arctic ice is melting and northern nations are now bickering over mineral rights they never had access to before the warm-up in this decade. The warmest years on record have all been in the last decade, and the number of weather disasters costing more than a billion dollars has increased over the past decade.
The motive behind the claim that global warming isn't occurring orthat humans aren't responsible are the same as previous assurances that cigarettes won't ruin your health. The profit motive.

Subject: Chrysler Group Position on Jeep Production Plans
Chrysler Group’s production plans for the Jeep® brand have become the focus of public debate.
I feel obliged to unambiguously restate our position: Jeep production will not be moved from the United States to China.
North American production is critical to achieving our goal of selling 800,000 Jeep vehicles by 2014. In fact, U.S. production of our Jeep models has nearly tripled (it is expected to be up 185%) since 2009 in order to keep up with global demand.
We also are investing to improve and expand our entire U.S. operations, including our Jeep facilities. The numbers tell the story:
With the increase in demand for our vehicles, especially Jeep branded vehicles, we have added more than 11,200 U.S. jobs since 2009. Plants producing Jeep branded vehicles alone have seen the number of people invested in the success of the Jeep brand grow to more than 9,300 hourly jobs from 4,700. This will increase by an additional 1,100 as the Liberty successor, which will be produced in Toledo, is introduced for global distribution in the second quarter of 2013.
Together, we are working to establish a global enterprise and previously announced our intent to return Jeep production to China, the world’s largest auto market, in order to satisfy local market demand, which would not otherwise be accessible. Chrysler Group is interested in expanding the customer base for our award-winning Jeep vehicles, which can only be done by establishing local production. This will ultimately help bolster the Jeep brand, and solidify the resilience of U.S. jobs.
Jeep is one of our truly global brands with uniquely American roots. This will never change. So much so that we committed that the iconic Wrangler nameplate, currently produced in our Toledo, Ohio plant, will never see full production outside the United States.
Jeep assembly lines will remain in operation in the United States and will constitute the backbone of the brand.
It is inaccurate to suggest anything different.
Sergio Marchionne
Let Chrysler explain it to you.

American businesses recently had record profits. Source ( http://seattletimes.com/html/businesstechnology/2018290135_usceopay26.html ).
Seems like if Obama is anti-business, we need more anti-business Presidents in the White House.
Last year of his Presidency, Mr Pro-Business Bush's record is that the economy contracted more at any other time since the Depression.
Maybe Communism is not nearly so bad for business as it is cracked up to be.

Don't forget the profit motive on the other side! While various companies stand to make tens of billions of profit due to ignoring global warming and not taking responsibility, don't forget that climate scientists make tens of thousands of dollars in salary every year. This clearly shows that global warming is a hoax.
(Yes, I am being sarcastic.)
Here's more on the auto ad issue. From WaPo Four Pinnochios for Mitt Romney.
Excerpt from the Washington Post:
Indeed, while the ad cites the conservative Detroit News in supporting Romney for president, the editoriallargely comes to same conclusion as this column regarding the viability of Romney’s plan for the auto industry in the midst of the Great Recession. The newspaper said Obama’s response to the auto industry crisis was “extraordinary” and an example of his “leadership on this issue:”
Finally, the ad’s reference to Jeep production in China is technically correct but misleading, particularly in light of Romney’s comments on the campaign trail. The ad says that Obama “sold Chrysler to Italians who are going to build Jeeps in China,” but then adds: “Mitt Romney will fight for every American job.”
The unspoken message is that American jobs are being sent to China, even though the ad carefully tiptoes around that claim. (The ad, in fact, includes brief text quoting Bloomberg as saying Jeep production was returning to China.)
The Pinocchio Test
This ad shows that we have entered the final, desperate week of the campaign.
The series of statements in the ad individually may be technically correct, but the overall message of the ad is clearly misleading — especially since it appears to have been designed to piggyback off of Romney’s gross misstatement that Chrysler was moving Ohio factory jobs to China.
It is also especially strange that the ad touts Romney’s endorsement by the Detroit News, when the editorial actually backs up Obama’s criticism of Romney’s response to the auto industry crisis.

Byron and David, I still dont understand the points you guys are making. Byron, you realize that earnings will grow when you dont have any debt right? So as GM takes on debt in order to pay off its liabilities eg union health and pension obligations, it will begin to eat into those earnings. Second, not hard to have very moderate earnings growth with no debt in a slow growth environment. Its the ability to weather the economic cycles that make the difference. As GM piles up debt it will definitely file bankruptcy again.
David, you did see in your Chrysler write up that they will have jeep production in China. Why not produce those cars here in the US? You are so critical of Bain and blindly follow Obama policies explain how producing cars in China benefits the US even for cars sold in China? Can you tell me how they are going to compete effectively after Obama's new tax proposal is enacted creating an immediate 35% tax on sales to China while Toyota only pays the local Chinese tax? Come on brilliant one, Romney is right as usual on this one and it just kills you guys doesnt it.
What is it with you liberals and lack of reading comprehension? I was referring to the First Read article which gave anecdotal evidence of "something happening". That is not science at all!
I'm sure you are correct and this country and New York has never been hit by a Hurrican before cars and carbon emission.

Kirk -- From the same article linked above in WaPo:

But, but, but don’t we already have a ”Job Czar”?
Didn’t Barrack Hussein already appoint another unelected official to “create jobs” and business?
Isn’t GE’s CEO, Jeff Immelt, at the head of the Economic Advisory Board? The “Jobs Czar” for the Obama administration?
Have we heard about GE touting themselves as champions of the factory worker?
Of course we have.
GE has also recently closed more than 20 factories, shifted avionics and radiology businesses to China according to Reuters, and pushed for public policies that will allow them to continue that course.
GE is self-identifying "core" manufacturing interests, as though its other manufacturing interests simply vanished from the books. The truth is, they closed many of those plants here in America. According to GE's own records and statements, it had 125,000 U.S. manufacturing jobs in 2000 compared to 50,000 in 2010.
Government records show at least 38 events since 2001 in which workers at GE plants in the U.S. were made eligible for trade adjustment assistance (TAA) due to outsourcing or import competition. TAA is a program of the United States government to act as a way to reduce the damaging impact of imports felt by certain sectors of the U.S. economy.
Immelt has referred to China as GE's "second home market"
Yep, I guess another Cabinet position should make job creation much easier. I’m sure this position will “focus like a laser” on the economy and job creation just like Barrack Hussein has.
What should be astonishing to everyone is a recent study done by the European Central Bank (ECB). Europe is in the midst of a massive fiscal crisis caused by too much government. As has been their and our compulsion, they just feel spending more borrowed money, rather than any austerity measures to reduce the size of government, is the solution. The study finds that government spending is unambiguously harmful to economic performance.
But these warnings fall on deaf ears to statists such as Barrack Hussein. This is what happens when you elect an Ivy League faculty lounge elitist. Their policy is based on a mutual self aggrandizement based on how many books they have read. If you are so capable and write a book you are placed on a pedestal. Obviously running the largest and most successful economy in history is simply a cook-book solution away from success.
Failure is no longer an option. It’s time to elect a statesman with both governance and business experience.

Excellent post.
It’s amazing how Liberals will ignore the rule of law so easily.
Not only was the GM and Chrysler bailout illegal, it was unconstitutional. One of governments mandates is to enforce contracts, not abrogate them for political benefit.
But then again, when we have a POTUS who is allegedly a Constitutional scholar who repeatedly tramples over the Constitution due to his ideology, it shouldn’t surprise us.
It’s obvious Liberals/Progressives know how abusive this POTUS has been with the rule of law, they just don’t want to admit their advocacy of it.
This is not unusual as it adds to their belief that government can do everything because of their inability to succeed. It’s sad that so many Americans have been indoctrinated into the class warfare and envy meme and have lost all their self-respect and ambition.
Barrack Husseins suckling of the
unionsgoonions teat is obvious, even as it destroys our ability to be competitive in the 21st century global economies. Their convoluted belief that unions benefit them is an admonition of their inability to be paid a fair wage based on their skills. Their constant need to be paid more than they’re worth is an indictment of their complacency.GM could have been rescued via a normal Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The company would have emerged would have been stronger and more capable to compete. Instead it was just a massive illegal transfer of wealth from creditors and bond holders to the goonions. The nonsense that it couldn’t be financed is disproven in the face of Chrysler being bought by Fiat.
As you also pointed out, their hypocrisy is exposed as they promote foreign manufacturers “outsourcing” their operations here but when American companies such as GE, Apple and other conglomerates do the same they are silent. Yet when Bain Capital did it they were rabid in their delusion.
Hypocrisy knows no bounds with Liberals/Progressives as long as it doesn’t interfere with the altar of big-government they worship at.

NOTE: Liberals/Progressives remember to vote on November 7th.
The very core of your argument is that the crushing load of having to support older/retired (ex-)employees is going to bankrupt the company. And your people are livid at the fact that Obama has continued to meet these obligations to employees.
Yet, keep in mind that over the last few years GM has been able to shoulder this burden - it has been continually paying the obligations and the earnings growth that is projected keeps in mind these liabilities, as they are well-known and well-understood.
Yes, it is not possible to argue that GM will never go bankrupt. Many types of unforeseen circumstances can cause bankruptcy, or something people have not thought of yet.
But, this is a political forum. So real question is not whether GM is a viable obligation, but whether Obama managed to make the taxpayer more money than the taxpayer put in. Was this a good business decision?
The answer there is yes. Keep in mind that the taxpayer doesn't just make (or lose) money on GM stock. GM employees and the firm itself pay taxes into the US Treasury, and as individual taxpayers, we benefit when other people pay their taxes. These employees would have become a liability to the taxpayer, as there was no possibility for GM to obtain financing from private sources at that time.
This is real money. GM IS selling cars, and the money paid for those cars eventually goes into the pockets of employees and ex-employees. Part of this money ends up in the US Treasury where it benefits me and you collectively. Our best interests do not lie with GM making loads of money and being insanely profitable and then squirreling all that money into a Swiss bank account. Our best interests lie in a maximal amount of GM's cash going into paying its employees, which is how as taxpayers we will maximize our return.
Essentially, the argument you are making is that the taxpayer and the US Treasury is maximizing income through GM. How exactly is this bad for you, me, and our country? Furthermore, I do not believe your predictions of GM bankruptcy are accurate. But for the sake of argument, let us assume that such is the case and GM is currently paying out too much.
Let's see what happens...If there is a future bankruptcy, we just explain to the debt-holders (the ex-employees and employees), that they have to accept a lower payout, and they have to accept, having no other choice. The income to the US Treasury will also go lower, because they receive less taxable income, but that's just reality.
What difference does it make to you and me? Obama's job is to legally and reasonably maximize the return to the US Treasury. That is what he did, and very successfully, with GM.
Obama is not a CEO. He is not America's CEO. America does not have a CEO, and does not need a CEO. Rather, we need a President. That is Mr Romney's mistake. It is possible that he would make a good President, perhaps even a great President. The problem is that he has made very little attempt to sell himself as a President, he's been telling us he wants to be CEO.
The reason some people are livid about GM is that the employees came out ahead of management. This is a reversal of usual business practice, where employees are shafted and the bankruptcy is used as a way to break up the union. There is a deep and abiding contempt for the average working man, in the minds of some people. When Obama made sure that a million such people came out alright, that is when the enmity started.
DCIA--not sure how your paragraph changes or impacts my point at all. So explain to me again as it appears not one single Obama supporter has tried, how opening a plant in China to sell goods overseas is any different than the companies you guys criticized Bain and Romney and why Chrysler would do that when they could create the same jobs here in the US. Explain to me how your substantive support is consistent with Obama's tax plan (my answer is that Obama knows his plan makes no economic sense but is pandering to the dummies voters because it sounds like good politics) to eliminate the deferral of US on foreign earnings.
Good one Jack, I see you continue to have nothing substantive to add.
I wrote:
And while I was writing that, this hatred was about to be on open display through JimSpence's posting. Thank you for making my point.
No More Carter
Byron, you are making the wrong comparisons and I suspect you know that. And you also either dont understand where corporate profits go and are really making up silly lies. First, neither I, Romney or Obama stated that the government providing financing during the chapter 11 process was wrong or not appropriate. So under all scenarios, GM would have emerged a profitable company because under all scenarios, its liabilities would have been eliminated. However, it is clear that Obama and his administration provided a political payoff to the unions and went against established bankruptcy law. Second, the unions would have survived a managed bankruptcy but they would have had to negotiate with the lenders as the new owners so the new contract would have created a business model that would be better able to compete and survive economic cycles. Under both scenarios, the employees would have had jobs and paid taxes etc. Finally, if the shareholders make profits those profits dont go to Switzerland they go to institutions. Guess who realizes those profits? you and I and the unions. The largest shareholders are union pension plans and 401(k) plans. I would be willing to bet that any economist worth their weight, would tell you a more streamlined efficient GM that makes more money for its shareholders and employees provides more revenue in taxes to the government. So your theory is at best equal and more likely 100% wrong.
Surely this is blindingly obvious?
Since this needs to be explained, let me lay it out. There are two differences:
1. Laying off a productive worker is much worse than not hiring a productive worker in the first place. Chrysler is not moving work overseas. They have explicitly said they are not. Mr Romney, on the other hand, has benefited greatly from doing exactly that.
2. Bain and Mr Romney then ship the Chinese goods back into the US. Chrysler, on the other hand, is making cars in China to sell to the Chinese.
If you do that, you are, quite literally, a parasite. About 2/3rds of the American economy runs on the American consumer. (That is why consumer sentiment is such a closely watched index.) The American consumer also happens to be the American worker, the middle class. His purchasing power comes from the salary he receives at work. It is a semi-closed system. If you open the loop by laying off workers and shipping work overseas, you are hitting the economy where it hurts - by reducing the purchasing power of the American consumer.
JimSpence, the FBI is coming for you. Will you put up a fight?
Yes I used the word "science" in a context which REQUIRES reading comprehension. I have provided my first post below for context and have also provide the REPSONSE I already gave you telling you I was responding to first read and actually agreed that yes MOST climate scientist do believe carbon emissions to have an effect.
That crackpot website was talking about a report from the NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration), which is a federal agency that actually believes in global warming. They just don't falsify information to fit an agenda like so many others. I noticed you didn't try to argue against the point that sea levels were not rising like predicted (and like you stated as if were true) you just went into name calling and that somehow this has something to do with cigarettes.
First Read should leave the climate science to the people who know what they are talking about and not make stupid statements from their uneducated observation over the last couple of decades. And you should stop telling me what I'm saying and what I must believe and start coming with evidence that disproves what I have said about climate cycles, and sea levels, or save your little cigarette straw men arguments for someone who will engage in such nonsense.
First POST: THe earth is billions of years old, has known cycles both large and small, and everything from sun spots, solar flares, and ocean currents play a role in the climate.
Second POST: My post was directed at First Read who made the absurd statement of.....
Kirk -- Answer me this. By eliminating taxes paid on profits overseas are we not then incentivizing more business to move their operations overseas?
BTW folks -- Jim Spence is most likely a paid lackey from some far right leaning group.
You complain about the Misrepresentation Romney gives on Jeep and then go on to Misrepresent Romney's record of jobs overseas at Bain. As FactCheck.org has said, no jobs were shipped overseas when Romney was the head of Bain and "we’ve seen no evidence so far to show that Romney was actually running Bain, even part-time and from a distance of nearly 2,100 miles, as the Obama campaign wishes voters to believe."
So you want us to feel sorry for Obama and call Romney a liar while you push lies and misrepresent his record? The Romney commercial said nothing that wasn't true, it may have gave an impression that isn't true, but the actual commercial is accurate. Romney shipping jobs overseas at Bain on the other hand isn't even factually true and IS A COMPLETE LIE, yet you liberals feel no remorse continuing the lie.
Logic,
To those that believe the earth is less than 6000 years old, only 99.5% of scientists believe that climate change has been caused or accelerated by human activity. (They cling to any tiny bit of doubt.)
Nicely said. You already gave advance warning of the weakness of your arguments. I appreciate your honesty.
I like the way you insist that the "bankruptcy law" is "established." Law does not have to be established. Conventions have to be established. And yes, as I have already mentioned, Obama went against established business conventions, here:-
So I am not sure what you are trying to say here, aside from saying that you disagree with me. But you don't.
The US Treasury is the new owner. It negotiated a contract that is in its best interests, as I demonstrated in my previous article. In order to argue otherwise, you will have to make the case it is the Treasury's interest to make lesser money.
Many of which are based in Switzerland. Yes, I am willing to freely conceded that I did not mean "Switzerland" literally, but rather, as a euphemism. Speaking as a 401(K) holder or investor, I don't care if my dividends come from GM or from AT&T. I am not that interested in GM specifically making a lot of money. So the idea that somehow I will be benefiting specifically from GM as an investor is a load of BS.
Beyond that, though, it is in the US Treasury's interest to maximize its returns.
Anyone who understands business, and I starting to suspect that you absolutely do not, understands that "makes more money for shareholders and employees" just isn't true. If the employees make more money, then the shareholders make less money, and vice versa. That is why announcement of large layoffs almost invariably causes a stock price to go up, all else being equal.
If there is a tax to be paid on some amount of money, it is in YOUR best interests, as a taxpayer, to have the money taxed from the employee, who is going to pay higher taxes than the 15% dividend rate.
So, yes. Obama gave GM's money to the employees. He gave more than is considered conventional during bankruptcies. However, as Treasure-in-Chief (so to speak) he maximized return for the US Treasury. That is what he should have done. Anyone else, specifically Mr Romney would have done a sub-optimal job, specifically because he would be thinking like a CEO and not as the President. That is what disqualifies Mr Romney and qualifies Mr Obama for the job.
Right.
Obama will glean every political advantage he can out of this storm.
Let's take a look at what I said, shall we?
Where did I ever say "Romney is the head of Bain", or "Romney was the head of Bain when Bain started shipping jobs overseas?" What has been said is that Romney has benefited and continues to benefit from Bain shipping the jobs overseas. That is because he still retains a significant interest in Bain.
Are you seriously trying to maintain that if Mr Romney called up the head of Bain right now, whoever he happens to be, and as a major stockholder told him to knock it off, Mr Romney would receive any pushback?
No, I wish you to think. I know it is a futile hope, but such is life.
I noticed that you do not argue that sea levels are NOT rising. You are only trying to argue that they are not rising according to some models.
You seem to be big on misrepresentation. It's interesting that you are basing you argument on "climate scientists have only looked at the least 100 years of data." Actually, climate scientists have looked at billions of years of data, because that is the amount of data available.
Of course there is no agreement. That's because people don't want to admit that there's a problem.

No. Why? Should I have ED?
They just left here and commended me on exercising my freedom of speech in our Federal Constitutional Republic.
They told me not to waste my time with the nonsense that comes out of the,,,how did they put it,,,Liberal useful idiots.
They said they know that many on the Left are incapable of understanding our First Amendment Rights.

BTW, ED, just before they came over I donated another $500 to the American Red Cross to help with the disaster relief.
Have you sent your donation in yet? I don't think you can use your EBT card though.
Given the paucity and meanness of spirit you seem to continually demonstrate, I remain highly doubtful that you could ever have shown such generosity. I guess it's possible, though highly unlikely.
Meanwhile: Mittens is in Ohio collecting "supplies" in front of the cameras and "checks for his campaign" behind the scenes Shameless is Wormney.
I Implore BOTH candidates to suspend their campaigns until the election. We in America have bigger fish to fry. Mittens will continue to collect checks and pretend to care while President Obama is being Presidential and caring about Americans.
Mittens wants FEMA gone. Mittens wants education gone. Mittens wants more military spending. Mittens wants war with Iran, Syria, China and Russia. Mittens will NOT care about those he sends to battle. He even said the best way for his 5 bastard sons to serve this nation, is IF Mittens is the President. Not by serving in the military. Serving in the military is higher than working for dear old dad.
Mr Romney's sons are not illegitimate. There is no need to resort to name-calling. Why is it necessary for you to speak like this? Liberals win on the issues. Please leave the insults for the other side.
Byron, I actually do know what I am talking about as a lawyer and finance executive in real estate, I deal with bankruptcy and financial issues all the time. Its not a convention but law, established law and precedent. Almost never are the lenders squeezed out of ownership and never for unsecured creditors but good try and you clearly are wrong on this. As for your attempts at trying to back away from your comments regarding shareholders doing well etc if GM makes more money are almost laugable. Its accretive not dilutive. We have a double tax system so if GM makes more money, they pay corporate tax and the shareholders do pay a lower tax rate on ALREADY taxed earnings. The employees in this situation were not harmed in cash compensation and would only likely have to pay a larger portion of their income into their benefits which would not impact the tax revenue to the government. You arent going to convince me or any economist that a less profitbable company and less efficient company is going to generate more revenue.
You obviously dont understand business by calling someone a parasite for competing in the global economy. There is no difference between expanding overseas and expanding in the US in your example except you try to equate somehow that trying to be more competitive by hiring overseas is somehow less parasitic than replacing an existing worker. The better comparison is whether you replace and retain some employees or go out of business and have no employees. Virtually all the companies we are talking about have foreign sales and earnings and they dont base their payroll decisions on some pro rata basis of sales. They base it on ability to compete against their competitors so your parasitic characterization is way off base.
DCIA--not at all. In fact it has the opposite impact. If the US were to adopt the tax system of every single other country in the world which is that they pay tax under the foreign system and can repatriate earnings after tax to the US without US tax, first you compete far better against foreign competition, can lower the price of your products such as GM cars and sell more products increasing employment in the US and capital overseas can be brought back to the US and reinvested here more effectively instead of sitting in a bank account doing nothing overseas.
Byron Raum
ROTFLMAO!!!!!!
Of course you are.
As a Liberal, you probably believe I should have sent the money to the government so they could do a much better job of redistributing my wealth.
Just like the government has such a stellar record managing your and my tax dollars.
Here's a few examples of your sacrosanct idol, the U.S. governments, proud record of achievement. Be aware that most of these reports are our OWN government watchdogs reporting this corruption.
The federal government made at least $125 billion in improper payments in 2011.
Washington spends $92 billion on corporate welfare (excluding TARP) versus $71 billion on homeland security.
Washington spends $25 billion annually maintaining unused or vacant federal properties.
Government auditors spent the past five years examining all federal programs and found that 22 percent of them–costing taxpayers a total of $123 billion annually–fail to show any positive impact on the populations they serve. (Read this one a few times to understand the impact of its message)
The Congressional Budget Office published a “Budget Options” series identifying more than $140 billion in potential spending cuts.
Examples from multiple Government Accountability Office (GAO) reports of wasteful duplication include 342 economic development programs; 130 programs serving the disabled; 130 programs serving at-risk youth; 90 early childhood development programs; 75 programs funding international education, cultural, and training exchange activities; and 72 safe water programs. The GAO estimates that betwee $200 billion and $400 billion is lost annually.
The Institute of Medicine reported that health care fraud is estimated to cost taxpayers more than $750 billion annually.
So, we have our own government telling us our own government is wasting all this money.
Yep, our government is where you Libbies need to keep sending your hard earned tax dollars. It does such a bang-up with our money, doesn't it?
I spend more than most people make in a half a year to have my taxes prepared to avoid, NOT EVADE, paying as much tax as possible.
So should you.
When I see so much massive waste, fraud, abuse and corruption of our tax dollars, the last person I'm going to entrust my charitable donations with is the government.
NO ONE, should send another penny, certainly not MORE tax dollars, to our government until it can run itself effectively, efficiently and affordably. Instead of demanding the mean, evil, nasty, rich people pay more into this bottomless pit you should be boycotting the government until it can show true fiscal responsibility.
Unfortunately, you won't.

My fellow Americans:
We have just emerged from one of the worst natural disasters to ever befall the United States. Hurricane Sandy devastated the entire eastern seaboard and affected perhaps 20% of the population. Let me state that any prior doubts on the effects of global warming on weather patterns, on whether we are at a threshold in human history, or even on global warming's existence have been shattered after today. Hurricane Sandy was greatly aided by global warming, which caused a jet stream to collide with it and intensifying the storm. We cannot continue to doubt the effect of carbon pollution on our atmosphere or the effect on global weather patterns. This is the truth: Mother Nature is pissed. We will rebuild, we will go on, but we cannot live like we did before this disaster. We must re-energize our efforts to cut carbon emissions and promote cleaner and more efficient forms of energy. We must repair our battered and crumbling infrastructure, not only in New York and New Jersey but throughout the nation. We must end this partisan bickering over petty issues and unite as a nation and as a species to combat global warming. Earth will continue to exist for centuries to come; humanity, however, is forever mortal.
Where's your source??? I'd like to see your proof.
Technically, that includes subsidies and grants AND tax breaks. Closing those would automatically raise taxes to some degree. And I am not necessarily against corporate welfare; just against that which is not needed or not provided efficiently and effectively. And I don't really think we need a Department of Homeland Security; the Defense Department ought to take control of defending the nation.
So we can sell some of them; still raises less than eliminating the Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans...
I'd like to see the source, and if that is true we should eliminate waste and fraud; that doesn't mean we should rollback the size of government back to the 1920s.
Alright then; still doesn't solve the problem of our deficits. The current deficits are $7 trillion over 10 years, and under a Romney administration it could total up to $14 trillion. You have half of the equation, but you still don't pay for the Romney tax cuts or the increase in defense spending.
That actually is false; fraud (and waste) in the healthcare system costs everyone, not just taxpayers, $750 billion a year.
You want to make a point and demand reform??? Go ahead. Nobody's stopping you. Hell, I'd even support you, and I'm a "redistributionist Keynesian." The problem with your proposal is (A) not all of the waste will be eliminated and (B) you still don't solve the problem of growing costs and shrinking revenues. The federal government is taking in perhaps 16% of GDP and spending perhaps 23% of GDP; that is unsustainable. If it were up to me, I would increase revenues to about 21% and spending to perhaps 20-22%. At the very least, we should return to the Clinton tax rates (FOR EVERYBODY) and then comb back spending to about 21%. Social Security; raise the taxable maximum and use progressive price indexing. Medicare: bundle the payments to providers, raise the payroll tax, enable it to negotiate drug prices, and reform Medigap insurance and increase Medicare Part B premiums.
True, but taxes are, in the names of Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr, the price for a civilized society. Don't like paying taxes?? Go ahead and don't pay them. But don't come crying to the government when you start seeing roads cracking, bridges collapsing, and the economy tanking. We need to fix waste and fraud; but we need to reduce the deficit in a BALANCED MANNER; that means spending cuts, entitlement reform, and raising revenues.
That includes having the guts to raise taxes on those who need to pay more, which frankly is every taxpayer. We have had it easy for decades; we have enjoyed low rates and high benefits for far too long. Only now have we realized that the prosperity of the past 30 years was merely a facade for the rich taking more in and the rest of us getting poorer. And we ourselves are in part to blame for selling our government and our dignity to those who seek to benefit only themselves. As part of the contrition to pay for this great sin, we must all sacrifice for a better nation; that will mean reduced benefits, higher taxes, and less spending for EVERYONE.

What makes you say that ?

BIGGEST LIE AD FACTORY = ROMNEYRYAN BUILT THAT.
The latest grotesque deception via Romney-Rove-Ryan-Adelson is a series of JEEP Ads. Built upon previous lies, their latest $$slander says that President Obama~sent~Jeep~jobs~to~Italy~and~then~Italy~ sent~them~to~China~.
The China equivalent of a CEO for GM touted that they have expanded in China and that 7 of 10 automobiles GM manufactured were made outside of the United States.
Seems that under Obama, GM has been able to expand its manufacturing in China, making Obama a major outsourcer of Jobs with your money.

HeReigns:
Do you have any figures on auto sales in China? Do you know how much they've gone up over the past ten years?
They are now the largest market for cars on the planet.
If 7 in 10 GM vehicles are built outside the US, how many GM vehicles are SOLD outside the US?
I know they do some importing of small cars to the US, but they've been doing that ever since the late 80s. Remember the Geo Metro?
All the name calling aside (Obammy, Myth, Barry, Bammers, Mittens, etc), Mitt Romney belongs to the cult of Mormon, which is a gross distortion of the Christian religion. If you are....
Then you should vote NO to Romney/Ryan.
Keep cults, and cult like activities out of our government. Unless you support the idea that Quakers live on the moon, higher elders live on the sun, that Jesus was a Native American and that the only way into heaven is through handing over excessive amounts of money to your church leaders......then you should vote yes. And yes, these are all things that Mormons believe. IMO these things are a sacrilege, better yet - an abomination against my faith. I am offended.
Demystifying Romney
If you're undecided who to vote for with the direction this country, you're need to pay attention to the real Willard "MYTH" Romney and all his LIES, flip-flops, and hypocricies.
Insanely dishonest Mitt Romney auto bailout ad .
Romney Gets Knocked for Misleading Jeep Claims
"Let's set the record straight: Jeep has no intention of shifting production of its Jeep models out of North America to China," wrote Gualberto Ranieri, Jeep's senior vice president of corporate communications.
It's simply reviewing the opportunities to return Jeep output to China for the world's largest auto market. U.S. Jeep assembly lines will continue to stay in operation. A careful and unbiased reading of the Bloomberg take would have saved unnecessary fantasies and extravagant comments."
During a campaign conference call with reporters on Monday, top Obama officials said Romney's attempt to scare voters into thinking Jeep jobs are being shifted overseas shows he is losing the key state.

Obama has not flip flopped on giving citizenship to 15+ million illegal immigrants.........
He changed the accounting method so illegals turned away at the border are now counted as deportations, so he did NOT deport more illegals as everyone claims
He sued AZ to protect illegal's rights over those of U.S. citizens. He backdoored the Dream Act even though most citizens are against it.
Why doesn't he help Americans already?
Can you site that accounting change jw101? Because his high rate of deportation is one of the things I've given credit to the President. If it really is just more BS number manipulation I'd like to see proof of it.

Yeah, did you read about the 500 coal miners signing a letter exposing Obama as a liar? Not that we didn't already know.
Obama must be worried to send a campaigner to Minnesota. He has only been there once this year and that was to raise funds. Then he sends the lying crook womanizer HUH?
Reading the posts it looks like liberal women vote/write/think with their woman parts and conservative women vote/think/write with their smart parts.
NO, JW, you are incorrect. Obama did not change anything, illegal aliens who cross over the border into the US and are then captured and sent back have always been counted as deportations.
Yes, the increase in deportations is mostly from this - which points to the huge improvement in border security under Obama. He has protected Arizonans better than Bush, Clinton, Bush, Regan and Carter ever did.
No, the Dream Act has consistently polled favorably in the US as a whole, only in Arizona and Texas has it not. The President tried 9 times to get the Dream Act passed, accepted 16 amendments by Republicans, and still none of them would vote for it in the Senate except Murkowski on the last vote - despite the fact that none of them can give you any further amendment that they want on it.

Normally, I refrain from criticizing First Read because I realize their job is to post the political news and
Romney's True Self. Mitt Romney's first campaign ad of the general election was not a positive ad promoting himself, his qualifications, his accomplishments. No, it was a negative, attack ad on President Obama containing a blatant lie--the first of many Romney lies. Romney's first ad took President Obama's quote of what John McCain said in the 2008 campaign and edited it to sound as if it were President Obama's own words.
Ironic that one of Romney's final ads is filled with whopper lies about how he would support the auto industry unlike President Obama; that Jeep is moving all its manufacturing to China, an absolute total lie. Never mind Mitt's own words "Let Detroit Go Bankrupt", his own words that said that if the U.S. Government loaned money to the auto industry, it would mean the end of the American auto industry. Ironic that despite Chrysler Jeep's calling out Romney's lies, the Romney campaign sees it as an inconvenience and continues to tell it. That explains the Romney Team's comments that they won't let facts get in the way.
Last year, Romney said FEMA should be relegated to the State's, better yet, to the Private Sector; that federal disaster assistance is "immoral". Of course, this week, Mitt has a different take on FEMA--he needs to be Moderate Mitt instead of "severely conservative" Mitt. Anyone think Bain Capital or Halliburton or any private business will step up to the plate and absorb the cost of natural disasters in the home states?
As with every other function of federal government, Romney and most of the GOPTP fail to comprehend that we are the United States of America, that we come to the aid of states in their time of need and we do so because it is the right thing to do, the moral thing to do. Iowa cares about Louisiana, California cares about Florida, Louisiana cares about Alabama, New Mexico cares about New York. That is what the United States of America means--united we stand, divided we fall.
Never in my many years of watching politics and politicians have I seen a presidential candidate so devoid of character, so devoid of honesty, so devoid of any sense of right and wrong, so devoid of any sense of morality as Mitt Romney--a man with no core, a man who is nothing but a LIAR, a greedy, selfish liar. Romney reminds me of Richard Nixon, "tricky Dick", another man with no core, no sense of moral right and wrong, win elections and defeat democrats no matter the cost. Never forget that Romney's own campaign manager said for the general election, Romney would be like an Etch-a-Sketch, shake it up and start over. Perhaps, we should call him "tricky Mitt."
Edit gremlins, only the first line shows. That first paragraph should be: Normally, I refrain from criticizing First Read because I realize their job is to post articles for us to debate; FR is the best place for political chatter. But I find it troubling that they inject politics into Hurricane Sandy, an on-going natural disaster; such comments inferring this or that impact on the White House could have waited a day or two.

Jody -
I heard a Romney raido ad on the way to work today that repeated and overheated the "Jeep to China" lie. I am usually a pretty level-headed guy, but I got so angry I didn't know what to do.
How can a candidate lie so often and so effortlessly? He not only switches his positions, he ignores his previous positions and lies about ever having them!
Unfortunately the low-information voter may not have the time or inclination to investigate Romney's claims, and since so few of the media outlets are challenging his statements he breezes by untouched by truth and unconcerned with the depth of his lies.
I think it is sad and pathetic that this is the candidate the Republican party nominated and continues to support.
Jody, Iowa:
Refrain? You are a daily poster, with all kinds of negativity, so acting like this is your very first comment is a bit silly.

Excellent post Jody. It will be interesting to see how much the affected areas will be looking for federal assistance and if some in Congress will refuse to give aid. Can anyone imagine, looking at just NJ what it would be like if there was no FEMA and no federal government, Gov Crist would be the first to say he's grateful.
The very idea that there should even be very limited federal government, is in and of itself, ridiculous, at that rate all 50 states might just as well be independent countries.
President is doing a fantastic job making sure all who need assistance have what they need.
Independent Thought -
I normally refrain from criticizing posters, but I think your 'moniker' says it all.
You had a thought once, but it was an 'independent thought' - one single thought, all on it's own, with no other thoughts to stand by it or support it.
Jody...Good post and I agree 100%. The Mormon Moron is a lying dog! Ronmey says,"get rid of FEMA and give that responsibility to the states". Really!!! What fool. The hurricane is a chance for FEMA a Obam is show why Romney is a fool.
Imagine Romney outsourcing disaster relief---he thinks the private sector could do a better job. Imagine the relief workers doing a cost/benefit analysis before rescuing people. Imagine the accountants telling them--don't run into burning buildings---there aren't that many people inside. Imagine them looking at the crane in NY and saying---they have insurance, let it go. Imagine nurses carrying people down flights of stairs only to find no ambulances waiting----they were down-sized. It is ludicrous that Romney would even suggest it and shows how wrong it is when you think government is like a business.
Jody -- Very well said. Republicans have no problem throwing money at war but when it comes to helping out Americans, here at home, they say we can't afford it. It's disgraceful.
Thanks, TNSEVOL, GBM, robertlevy.
Independent Thought, please point to the line where I acted as if this was my first post? Oh, there is no such comment; in fact, I imply the opposite. I did suggest that FR injecting politics into Hurricane Sandy and the on-going storm was a day or two premature. Negativity? Seriously, you accuse me of negativity? I post the truth about Mitt Romney, he is a pathological liar, he cannot help his lies, he no longer recognizes lies as lies. Romney will say and do anything to be president including lie by the hour which is not my negativity but rather Romney himself. I do, however, agree that the FR GREMLINS are out in force today as evidenced by my own edit fail and then what I posted separately as the edit appeared twice!!!
Steeler Fan
It just goes to show, Mitt Romney is not a true businessman, as I have known people in business. I worked at L.L.Bean when they decided to stick by their domestic polartec fleece manufacturer, after that mill was destroyed by fire, instead of outsourcing the material needed for their jackets, because the owner had a personal friendship with the Malden Mills founder. Leon Gorman (L.L.'s grandson) knew what it took to create a business and grow it, Mitt Romney only knows how to grow his profits.
Romney is a chop shop expert, a casino-player, buying up businesses other people have sweated to create, and either infusing them with enough cash to expand, or breaking down their parts to sell (while sticking employee pensions to the federal government.)
TENSVOL:
My moniker has been with me since 2008. I am a moderate, but am supporting Romney, for my kids and for a better USA. The mean-spirits and vocabulary I read on this site reassure me I am on the right path. As I tell my kids, "Sticks and stones..."
Romney/Ryan 2012
Jody:
I think we can find mistruths in both parties. Romney had to tack right to get on the ticket. Hillary even said appealing to the base was necessary during her run in '08.
Because of the insane division in this nation, the attacks are astronomical.
Romney/Ryan 2012
Steeler Fan, well said.
The private sector's goal is to make a profit by producing something consumers want, nothing more and nothing less. It is lunacy to even consider privatizing disaster relief, fire and police services to name a few. Disaster assistance money from the federal government is often used by states to contract private business services. Some of those businesses might provide assistance to a community initially for free but they could not afford to do it continually at no charge and remain a viable business.
Independent Thought, both parties shade some things but the GOPTP flat out lies and stands by those lies even when they have been fact checked and debunked. There is NO comparison of the lies Romney has told to anything President Obama has said. Wishful thinking on your part is as phony as is Mitt Romney.
Jody
I agree that Romney has been the most negative presidential candidate I have ever seen. First, he knocked out his primary challengers (what a bunch a losers they were too, Santorum, Herman Cain, Gingrich, Bachmann) by carpetbombing states with ads attacking them. (Did he really have to spend so much money to destroy the weakest field the Republicans have seen in decades?)
Romney's big "win" at the first debate was because he threw out any semblance of ethical behavior, in tacking to the middle after a season of being "severely conservative," and the media, as usual, gave him pass on it.
How House Republicans Would Make It Harder To Provide Hurricane Relief
By Aviva Shen
According to the House Appropriation Committee’s summary of the bill, the [GOP's 2011 continuing resolution] funds Operations, Research and Facilities for the National Oceanic Atmospheric Association with $454.3 million less than it got in FY2010; this represents a $450.3 million cut from what the president’s never-passed FY2011 budget was requesting. The National Weather Service, of course, is part of NOAA — its funding drops by $126 million. The CR also reduces funding for FEMA management by $24.3 million off of the FY2010 budget, and reduces that appropriation by $783.3 million for FEMA state and local programs.

As I set here in the midst of on-going high winds and torrential downpours from Sandy I am contemplating my future as a Hostage.
Just as meteorological conditions have conspired to trap Sandy in the area. all the Yahoo’s like Cantor, Boehner, Ryan, and yes even Ol’ Willard are conspiring as to how they can hold me and their response to the plight of 50 million Americans hostage to get what they want.
You’ll don’t know how much it pains me to think about one American doing this to another. But all I have to go on is past performance and spoken words. And going on that then as sure as the Good Lord made Little Green Apples it’s going to happen.
Just so’s you’ll Yahoo’s know us Old Country Boys make pretty poor Hostages. But my Heart aches for today when we start counting our loses and find that there many Hostages for you’ll to take.

Seems to me we've seen in the past there are plenty of people ready to privatize disaster relief...they're the ones selling plywood for $100/sheet and gas for $10/gallon.

John B, Des Moines, IA
Sir, don't look now but you have been cloned.
John:
Plywood is nearly a $100/sheet and gas is close to $10/gallon, here in California, under Obama.
Romney/Ryan 2012
When will the media cover the White House cover up of the attack on our embassy in Libya?
Gas prices are at a low, and may fall lower.
Plywood - you got me.
Independent Thought
You must be from the IMAGINARY California in your "head movies". If we can't agree on such a simple fact as what a gallon of gas costs how can we ever agree on anything of substance.
Why don't you follow the Sage advice of the esteemed GOP Statesman, Governor Rick Perry- Make sure you vote on November SEVENTH!
As hard as Faux is trying:
When Condoleeza Rice agrees with President Obama on foreign policy - as she does on the Libya meme - you know it is done.
Bull@!$%#!
From October 6, 2012;
Gas has been steadily coming down since then!
As for plywood, when you LIE about gas prices, who would believe the rest of your crap?
BTW: Presiden Obama had NOTHING to do with the increase, it was due to refinery fires & blending issues!
Feisty:
Obviously, it was a tongue in cheek comment.
This said, I still need to swipe my card two times to fill my vehicle.
Romney/Ryan for no more partisan bullying
IR, homerun. Romney held the people of Massachusetts hostage during a disaster; he refused to spend any of the state's surplus funds because he wanted to wait for FEMA funding--while thousands of MA citizens suffered. That's a typical business man not a governor or a president. Is it any wonder the good citizens of Massachusetts refuse to vote for the man who was a one-term governor, and chose not to run for re-election because he knew he would lose?
John B, it was worth repeating a bunch of times! Couldn't help laughing as I kept scrolling down and down only to discover per BCWC, you'd been cloned.
I love this. Mr Romney is not even capable of getting along with an unbiased moderator. And somehow, you expect us to believe that he will get along well with people who don't agree with him.
Plywood costs can be found here: http://www.dndplywoodonline.com/
It is nowhere near $100/sheet. Closer to $6.79. In general, plywood costs are the same around the country, as you can just buy it from here.
Cost of gas in California can be found here: http://www.californiagasprices.com/ ; first entry is for $3.39.
So since costs in California are far less than you seem to think, I presume you are now endorsing Obama?
So I take it the following is also a tongue-in-cheek comment?
Independent -- If plywood goes up blame the Koch Brothers, they own Georgia-Pacific.
What's the matter, not a fan of the free market?

Arguing over who is going to be president when the same clowns are coming back to the circus en masse...priceless
Not quite...Maine is poised to send Independent, moderate, environmentalist, millionaire businessman Angus King to the Senate.
PS After the election, my personal mission will be to bring down the U.S.Chamber of Commerce, which has pelted Maine's airwaves with negative ads attacking "King" Angus (their words), for months, simply in an effort to install a nondescript Republican in the Senate. This, despite the fact that individual members of the Maine Chamber of Commerce support Angus King, because of their experience working with his pro-business administration as governor of Maine, and have pleaded with the national organization to stop attacking their candidate.
I am compromising my party-affiliation to cross the aisle and support the non-Democratic Party candidate, in the Senate race, but the U.S. Commerce of Chamber won't meet me half way? What exactly does this organization stand for, if not to further the interests of the business community. Why would they attack a true fiscally conservative, and pro-business candidate, if their mission is to help business? What's next, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce attacks Planned Parenthood, gay marriage and Big Bird? Just more evidence something is rotten at the top in the private sector. I think, after the election, progressives need to launch a systematic attack on the incompetent, greedy, piggish billionaires on Wall Street. There is your shot across the bow, jerks.
Sandy’s Aftermath
From the article above:
Like many Americans, I was glued to the television last night watching the natural furry of Sandy unleash itself on New Jersey, and the eastern seaboard.
I saw things I’d never seen before in my 51 years.
Two feet of water in lower Manhattan; Twelve inches of snow in West Virginia this time of year; convoys of trucks from all over the country heading into the disaster zone with food, water, and power technicians.
Even PNM from way out here in New Mexico is sending people and trucks to help in the cause.
I was amazed at the massive coordination effort by the eight governors, dozens of mayors, and ordinary citizen’s cooperating with each other to help minimize the damage and save lives.
President Obama was very presidential, as many presidents in the past have been, in quickly issuing disaster relief and communicating with the governors as part of coordination efforts.
Thankfully, it seems the worst is over, but the effects will last for decades.
Fifty homes are gone in Queens, trees and power lines are down, along with many unfortunate Americans who will no longer be with us, and millions of families lives changed forever.
Once again, Mother Nature showed who really is in control, and just how precious our lives are.
Salud
But remember one man (Mitt by name) can change everything!! How you ask? <----Actually no one knows. This is the craker jack box approach and we must wait until we've bought the whole box before we find out what prize is inside.
The problem with the "Congressional Job Approval" numbers, is the Talking Heads speak as if Democrats have been obstructing economic progress for the last 4 years. Nope.
From day one, GOP leadership prescribed one deadly brew only - blocking all efforts to grow our economy, with the goal of blaming any negative fallout on the President.
Democrats in Congress have persistently tried to pass Jobs Bills (the AJA in whole/parts since last September), but GOP will have nothing to do with creating jobs, fixing infrastructure, hiring teachers etc. Democrats have consistently tried to work across the aisles.
So on low congressional Approval >>> point digits @ Boehner/Cantor/McConnell and resident dwebes.
Amy, great goal; the Chamber of Commerce needs a rewrite. Their goal should be as was intended, to promote the businesses in their particular areas, to aid a community by touting the employer opportunities; it should not be to back politicians whose goal has little to do with benefiting communities and citizens.
TomasGrande, well said.
man, Romney will eliminate everything and change his position on that! What a ballerina!
Hurricane Sandy will bring the kind of economic stimulus many Keynesian economists have been calling for: indiscriminate utilization of the unemployed. Undoubtedly, we will see many unemployed people put to work cleaning up after the destruction as money from government and insurance companies is funneled into the areas affected by the storm. If this actually helps the economy, maybe we can just start destroying cities across the country until we have full employment and our prosperity returns. Makes sense, right?
Worked in Japan and Germany after the war and they had a bomb hurricane.
How many unemployed got put to work when Katrina struck? I've never heard anything in the news about the unemployed being put to work.
EUREKA---I have figured it out. For weeks my fellow liberals have been asking Romney supporters to name one position that the Governor has not flip flopped on. The lying Jeep ad made the light go on for me. The Romney campaign's FIRST ad was out-and-out misquoting of President Obama about jobs and what will most likely be its last ad is an out-and-out lie about Chrysler and the auto bailout. There is a further similarity---in both cases it was the GOP candidate (then McCain and now Romney) who was clearly in the wrong but that didn't stop the Romney campaign from putting out the ads full of lies.
Thoughts and prayers to everyone who has been hit by the storm and to those still in harm's way. And grateful thanks to all the brave rescue workers and the disaster officials from FEMA and the states who are working so hard to keep people safe.
Steeler Fan -
You are correct, on the issue of "Lying your a$$ off to get elected", Mitt Romney has been consistent.
If Obama would help the middle class and stop this invasion by criminal illegal immigrants, I would vote for him.
But he refuses to help working class Americans.....he has only helped the poor and the wealthy.
Steeler Fan, great point. Romney can be summed up in one word: LIAR.
See the latest short debate, Biden vs. Biden.
And to think they want us to have this clown a heartbeat away from the presidency for another 4 years.
Your right! we should elect the people who say "were going to cut taxes, but dont worry, we will pay for it... How you ask?? We will tell you, right AFTER the election. "
Good luck with that!!
Exactly, because it happens so often.
Twice in 85 years I think.
Paul Ryan is a one-trick pony. He's obsessed with cutting the "fat" from the budget, i.e. dismissing what is important: clean air, healthcare for the elderly, family planning for young women, food and education for children, while washing down the budget with $350 bottles of wine he orders dining with lobbyists. Yeah, cut spending for you, increase spending for us, that's the Republican Way.
What a hypocritical jerk.
Amy, that's a perfect description of lyin' Ryan. Paul Ryan rants about the deficit and the debt YET he VOTED YEA for every UNFUNDED piece of Bush/GOP legislation which eliminated the budget surpluses and created the massive deficit and debt. Hypocritical jerk is too nice a word for him.
You are sure right about that. I'm surprised when Biden even knows which State he's in (tho he's generally in the State of Stupidity).
"Government's high-wire act"
Seems some GOP Senate candidates did not get the memo. "Legitimate rape" and pregnancy as a result of rape is a "gift from god"- that's not walking the high-wire, that's a candidate beholden to forcing a fringe ideology on free people. That's called trying to impose a THEOCRACY on FREE AMERICANS. These senators, the people the current GOP is vetting and bringing forward look more like the Ayatollah than an American statesman. VOTE, we will get the government we deserve.
When will the media cover the White House cover up of the attack on our embassy in Libya?
When will they cover the cover up of the cover up?
it's a conspiracy to conspire to create a conspiracy...
"The Truth is Out There" (and I do mean, out there!)
It is a cottage industry that will generate a couple of mansions for those who strum the proper chords...
NOBODY-
Has all the answers!
There was no cover-up. If anything, the White House has been amazingly transparent in informing the American people of what is going on, in real time. The only thing the WH may withhold, is information that might jeopardize covert operations in the region, or would you prefer they reveal those operations to cover their a--?
PS. 1983, 271 U.S. Marines killed by a terrorist attack while stationed in Lebanon. President at the time? Saint Reagan. Care to compare situations?
When will you stop spamming the boards over and over with this Ray?
I think dangerfield is right! It all a big conspiracy! Im going to put on a tinfoil hat and hide under a rock!

(you know a guy is off the boards when someone actually says)
"! think dangerfield's right!"
Excerpt from a Dana Milbank editorial in the Washington Post, October
9th.
"For fiscal 2013, the GOP-controlled House proposed spending $1.934
billion for the State Department’s Worldwide Security Protection program — well
below the $2.15 billion requested by the Obama administration. House Republicans
cut the administration’s request for embassy security funding by $128 million in
fiscal 2011 and $331 million in fiscal 2012. (Negotiations with the
Democrat-controlled Senate restored about $88 million of the administration’s
request.) Last year, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton warned that Republicans’
proposed cuts to her department would be “detrimental to America’s national
security” — a charge Republicans rejected.
Ryan, Issa and other House
Republicans voted for an amendment in 2009 to cut $1.2 billion from State
operations, including funds for 300 more diplomatic security positions. Under
Ryan’s budget, non-defense discretionary spending, which includes State
Department funding, would be slashed nearly 20 percent in 2014, which would
translate to more than $400 million in additional cuts to embassy security."
I suspect when there is one. That you guys are trying to make political hay out of tragedy is despicable! But being despicable seems to be standard operating proceedure for Neo-Cons
Amy: Your post made me laugh. The White House leaked Navy Seal operating tactics, but now they need to cover up Benghazi. You guys can rationalize anything.
Jatty, Darryl Issa leaked classified information about our Middle East operations in his Benghazi witch hunt. Or doesn't that matter since he is a republican?
What a lie ... Obama hates America and has caused the death of American Service Men and Women
Now we know why " Obama.com " is owned by and run by a Chinese Corporation ... out of the reach of the FBI
Oh come on beelzebubb, you can do better than that! As long as we are in make-believe, pull-bs-outta-my-a$$-land lets go HOG WILD with it!!
Obambam is a smelly, mexican, kenyan, comunist, facist, pig dog cow poo poop head!
Mitt Romney speaks the word of GOD! Thats why he SOUNDS like he is flip-flopping all the time, cause god is changing his mind! Mitt will lower taxes by 15 TRILLION dollars, create a BILLION new jobs! He will destroy IRAN, killing all of them- women, children, single handed! He will CRUSH the Chinese economy, gas will be a nickle a TANK- no matter how big your gas tank! He will do it all... and he will tell you HOW... RIGHT AFTER THE ELECTION!
Watch the Pork Chop hold his hand out for federal aid now.
These guys are a pathetic, hypocritical joke.
Cut, cut, cut, but not in my backyard.
Some more "BAD NEWS" for all you MORON democrats who want your FAILED POS leader to stay for another 4 years.
I did check this out. The White House has asked Lockheed-Martin NOT to issue notices of lay-offs until December (after the election)
Can it be anymore clear who we are dealing with? He will do anything to get re-elected and if he does....God help America .
Lockheed Martin is going to lay off 123,000 defense workers due to Obama's downsizing of the military. This hit the Drudge report yesterday. This is true!
The law requires Lockheed to give 60-day notice to all to-be-fired employees within 60 days. That drop dead date would be November 1st. Since this would be bad for the election, Obama has promised that our government would cover all Lockheed severance packages to fired employees if Lockheed would not release the names and locations of those losing their jobs until after the election!
Send this to all you know since it will never show up in the news. This posting is from a defense contract newspaper called The Hill. Read details below:
http://thehill.com/blogs/defcon-hill/industry/259517-graham-says-hell-block
This says it all!!
Why doesn't this stuff show up on the news? The news is not covering the White House cover up on the attack on our embassy in Libya either.
B: That is not completely accurate, the figure is 10,000.
Layoffs would be caused by sequestration, which both parties in Congress agreed to.
Ray -
That would be because most of the 'news' outlets might as well be owned by Obama.
...most of the 'news' outlets might as well be owned by Obama.

Except for the ones that aren't...
Sandy has made a few facts very clear America. The President is the individual our nation wants in the Oval Office. That is fact! President Obama is calm under fire, rational in all thought processes, and very communicative to everyone. The President takes his oath to the people of the United States Of America very seriously, and his defense of the US Constitution is obvious. The President has showed his core values, and his strong belief in defending all of our citizens. Every Gorvernor knows that the President has their back, and will help them with no questions asked. Governor Chris Christie has finally figured that out. President Obama is very relatable, Presidential, and very responsive to the needs of our citizens in need. It is critical that our President be stay on task, comprehends all information read and said to him quickly, and is able to bring all citizens together. Is the President the true and only Commander and Chief in 2012 and beyond? You had better believe it America! Polls do not vote. The people do!
progressive= forward11
Read my post above. It clearly shows what a MORON you have become.
.
I'm impressed! It's 11:59 PM in the Obama term and he's FINALLY getting something right. He was up late last night making calls and getting involved. Wow, wow, wow. He even cancelled his heavy scheduled of talk shows for today. It is so tempting to get real sarcastic here but some might actually think the President deserves four more years based solely on one night. Well, please, obviously, HE DOESN'T!
Watch Dubya's response to Katrina and 9/11 before you go down the Obama road.
dear grace...please don't make it our problem that you have been asleep the last 4 years. The President saved our nation from a fiscal collapse, ended a war paid for with W's credit card, appointed 2 of our nations most outstanding women to the Supreme Court, had fought for equality for all 100% of us, finally passed national health care for all 100% of us, saved our nations auto industry and ordered the elimination of the worlds most dangerous terrorist OBL.
as far as I'm concerned he has worked his a$$ off for all 100% of us and deserves another term!
4 MORE FOR 44!
grace
Your right. He's trying so desperately to impress folks here in his last days. Something that he should have been doing for the past 4 years.
I just hope folks don't fall for this as he will be back to his old ways if reelected, God forbid.
Gov. Romney can and will take our Country back from government and make life better for our future AND a better future for our children and grandchildren.
@William: In case you didn't get the memo, Bush is gone and McCain lost because of Bush's errors. Now Obama deserves to be gone based on his own record!
@Chris: You have been brainwashed by the liberal media. Saved from fiscal collapse? Which country are you referencing? Take a good LONG look at Benghazi and then and only then get back to me. If Obama worked 100% for all of us then why were four Americans left defenseless and why were we told a bunch of(and I'll be nice here) what Joe Biden calls "malarkey"?
Campaigning goes on ... yesterday a Reuters reporter in Pakistan reported he was able to make 2 campaign contributions to the Obama campaign one for $75 and one for $175 both in the name of Osama Bin Laden ... move America forward yeaaaa ....

Obama said BUSH did it
I'm looking for the weeds. Are they here?
Romney sucks
I'm looking for the weeds. Are they here?
HERE'S AN IDEA: How about we just put politics aside for a few days and concentrate our efforts in helping those that are going to be devastated by this storm. Obviously most of us can't just up and leave to go help physically - but a donation to the American Red Cross might be something we can do - every little bit helps.
Let's show the world that while we have our differences - when we are in the line of danger and calamity we are ALL Americans and we look out for each other.
That will involve more politics than the election. Katrina taught us that. They say: that is why we study history. So we don't make the same mistakes. I always ask, what war did we figure that out with.
I love that idea....Romney tried to put drives together for food ,medicine and clothes ...and got lambasted in the mainstream media for doing just that. What a shame ....people would rather see their politics in front of helping people devasted by the Storm.
The Wall St. Journal, Congressional Budget Office and Tax policy Center ALL say the same thing, Romney/Ryan's numbers just don't add up.
Ryan's own proposed 2013 budget is 1 trillion in the red.
He was the pro-choice, anti-gun, pro gay rights governor of ultra-liberal Masachusetts which he left more than 1.5 billion more in debt and was 47th out of 50 states in job creation during his term.
I would love any conservative to tell me why those things are attractive to you.
16 trillion in debt and a no balanced budget in the near future does not add up either. 25 million still out of work (same number as when Obama stepped into office) . Went from number one Economy in the world to number 7 . The House hold median Income dropped $4500 dollars since Obama took his Presidency. Also 17 million more people on food stamps today compared to the day when he stepped into office....Can any Liberal tell me why those things look attractive to you?
Does anyone understand that Obumba let the Auto Industry go bankrupt and that is what Romney said to do?
jrf...
Does anybody (talking to you) understand that when you have to revert to name calling your opinion becomes null and void?
when you have to revert to name calling your opinion becomes null and void? <~~~Too bad Feisty Redhead doesn't realize that.
Who called Romney an "Etch-a-Sketch"???-----Santorum
Who called Romney a "Vulture Capitalist"???-----Perry
Who called Romney/Ryan's voucher plan "Social Engineering"???------Gingrich
Who "invented" Obamacare???----Romney
You don't need to listen to the democrats, you can listen to the republicans
All Electoral College maps, even Rasmussen's have President Obama double digits ahead.
Obama: 237 - Romney: 206 - Toss-up: 95
Rasmussen used to have FL as leaning Romney....just this week it turned FL to toss-up.
Gov Christie praises President Obama for his handling of the storm prep.
You MORONS will do & say anything to try and protect your worthless POS. I would guess that it makes you feel better.
B: Can't refute the facts so you post nonsense. Come on prove what I said isn't true....double dare you.
Gallup has Romney ahead by 4 points.. Since you quoted Rasmusen ..they had Romney ahead by 2 percent in Ohio Yesterday. Gallups poll..although has been down reported its poll on Monday... Dragon those are facts ...Like you said ..Cant refute facts...But..as you know ..Neither side can claim they like what they see in the polls. Just remember ...The Undecided ...Always(not sometimes) always breaks for the challenger not the Incumbant... Whew ...At least it wasnt a "Double Dog Dare"
I'm sure Romney will take some sort of credit for the response.
I saw a headline saying he was going meet with FEMA, haven't verified it yet.
If it's true, why? Why would he be meeting with FEMA?
He doesn't hold any kind of office.
Bet Ryan will claim he jumped in a river and swam 3 miles to save a dog.
Jerryk1.......Here is a news Flash...Romney is running for President. Yes ...it is very common for Challengers to get involved. Here is another example... Hurricane Isaac ... Romney went to New Orleans while Obama continued to campaign.
jerryk1---I saw that Romney said he wanted to meet with FEMA and I thought--why? To discuss how immoral it is to have disaster aid? To discuss his plans to privatize FEMA? Those folks have been working nonstop since last week; the last thing they need to do is spend time so Romney can have a photo op.
So if Romney meets with FEMA he is just looking for a Photo Op, and if he doesn't, then he doesn't care. Sums it up?
Wish he could have been as "serious looking" about Sandy as the Benghazi Failure, campaigning in Vegas the day after must have been a national security priority.
JATTY...truer word were never written! Check who all the repeat writers are here today, though.
I am sure you all know( because i can tell how well informed you all are) that the challenger gets briefed every morning on subjects important to the Country. I am sure not to the extent of the President does. Obama had the same briefs as well in 2008. How do I know??? Because it is common Knowledge. That is why you dont hear the campaigns going back and forth like you uys are on these subjects.
Steeler Fan,
Yep, pretty much.
Romnmey meeting with FEMA to figure out how he can privatize it for profit........if he can just figure out a way to offshore FEMA.........
Star... It is time for you to put up or shut up! Name one job Romney sent over seas. I am sure you will be shutting up! You have to prove it..... I will prove to you with out a doubt Obama sent jobs over seas if you do... Like I said you will be shutting up... You are all the same...all full of bullshyt!!!!!
