SABINA, OH -- For the first time in four decades, Iowa’s influential newspaper endorsed a Republican candidate for president as The Des Moines Register announced Saturday night its support of Gov. Mitt Romney in the November election.
The Register, in an editorial that will run in Sunday’s paper, asks voters to give Romney "a chance to correct the nation’s fiscal course and to implode the partisan gridlock that has shackled Washington and the rest of America."
In 2008, the Register endorsed Barack Obama. The last Republican to win the support of the paper was Richard Nixon in 1972.
“Barack Obama rocketed to the presidency from relative obscurity with a theme of hope and change. A different reality has marked his presidency. His record on the economy the past four years does not suggest he would lead in the direction the nation must go in the next four years,” the editorial posted on the Register’s website said.
“Voters should give Mitt Romney a chance to correct the nation’s fiscal course and to implode the partisan gridlock that has shackled Washington and the rest of America — with the understanding that he would face the same assessment in four years if he does not succeed,” the editorial piece ended.
The announcement from Iowa’s largest newspaper comes just days after President Obama had an off-the-record then turned on-the-record conversation with the publisher and editor of the Register that prompted an op-ed from the paper about the condition of the interview.
Romney has some ground to make up in the state, which awards six electoral votes, as last week’s NBC News/Wall Street Journal/Marist poll of Iowa showed Romney trailing Obama in the state -– 51 percent to 43 percent. Romney narrowly lost the Iowa Caucus back in January to former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum.
When voters receive their Sunday paper in the morning, they will not only find the editorial endorsing Romney but also a copy of the “Mittzine”-– a pro-Romney superPAC publication about the GOP nominee and being dropped in five battleground states
Romney travels to Davenport, Iowa, on Monday for a rally. His running mate, Paul Ryan, is also expected to head back to the Hawkeye State within the next nine days leading up to the election.

The Register joins many who endorsed Obama in '08, only to see the error of their ways. The business of this country IS a business, and Romney is the man who can turn this economy around. Another South Florida Independent for Romney/Ryan!
~~If you're not outraged by the direction of this country, you're just not paying attention~~
Government is NOT a business. And business should NOT be running the governemnt. That's our job. You may not have figured this out.
Iowans are smart. They know a bullsitter when they see one. Iowa 2 and blue!
Wow, YankeeBOY....you might want to tell that to Calvin Coolidge, he's the one responsible for that quote. Running this country is indeed a business. You obviously haven't figured this out.
~~If you're not outraged by the direction of this country, you're just not paying attention~~
Ok, what if his numbers do not work. According to these tax experts his plan will not work.
http://finance.yahoo.com/news/tax-policy-center-spotlight-romney-173604062.html
But hey.lets take the word of a jaded editor.Obama leads in Iowa like 53% to Romneys like 47 %.
"they will not only find the editorial endorsing Romney but also a copy of the “Mittzine”-– a pro-Romney superPAC publication about the GOP nominee"
Sounds like a sellout. Let the games begin.
BREAKING NEWS!!!!...
Obama is not at fault for the bad economy and the national debt...
Studies have found ALL GOP POLICES AT FAULT.
No one can find any Obama policy that added to the National Debt.
All the trillions of debt are all GOP debt INTEREST and GOP failed policies or policies to fix GOP failures.
Obama loans got paid back.
Tell everyone history says so.
DO NOT REPEAT BAD HISTORY.
Evidently, they haven't surveyed the area around Romney and seen the same characters from the Bush Administration surrounding him, with the same policies. How in the world have you over looked this. The gridlock is because of Republicans who have made millions unemployeed so they could get one man out of office. Talk about rose colored glasses . . . .
As Yankee Boy said in his comment, everyone should read the Salt Lake City Tribune's endorsement of Barack Obama for a second term and I am sure most fair minded Americans would realize why we cannot afford too many Mitts with too many twists and turns, and very vague answers on every issue (both domestic and foreign policy). Very eloquently written.

You know what I find kind of odd as I sit here watching the World Series?
The Detroit Tigers are in the WS and I have yet to hear Romney mention this fact, since he likes to brag about Michigan being his home state. At least he does when he's campaigning. It's the one thing politicians love to do while they're campaigning - talk about the team they grew up watching and following. Yet not a word from Mitt.
Remember when he was in Michigan and he said that the trees are just the right height?
Well, I can't remember the quote exactly, but I'll never forget it.
btw, President Obama is doing quite well in Iowa.
@TeaSucks....as Sal_C2006 said: Salt Lake Tribune also endorsed Obama in '08. Contrary to what you're trying to peddle, the Deseret News, not the Tribune, is the Salt Lake City newspaper that is owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Hmmm, let's see...Intimidating letters, Pressure from employers, Phony mailers, These Dirty tricksters are trying to steal the election. It's the only way they can win . They know it.
How blind the Des Moines Register is!
There have already been some reports of employers suggesting how their employees should cast their ballots. A CEO of a Florida resort company threatened to fire his employees if Obama won. The CEO of a timeshare company did the same. And the famous right-wing Koch brothers warned of “consequences” of not voting for Romney.

Let's not forget this either:
As President Barack Obama was celebrating his inauguration at various balls, top Republican lawmakers were plotting to shut down the government by saying "NO" to everything.
VP pick Paul Ryan was there listening to the slant head FOX NOISE pollster Frank Luntz plot to destroy America.

17 minutes. Worth knowing.
Speaking of running a company, let's slash employee payroll to increase profitability. Let's outsource a few of the non managerial positions to anywhere it's cheaper. Let's create a company culture where we don't allow any decedents. Let's bring in some outside capital. Let's let the managers spend endlessly and put it on the company CC. Let's allow the CEO to make a trillion dollars even if the company goes broke and forget employee pensions, that's socialism; we in Romney USA Inc., are strongly opposed to that. And is all else fails, we can always liquidate all our assets and declare the company bankrupt.

Wow, Beverly...wasn't it our hero Bill Clinton who said "I don't think that we ought to get into the position where we say 'This is bad work. This is good work,'" Clinton said. "The man who has been governor and had a sterling business career crosses the qualification threshold." Clinton also went on to say that Romney's time at Bain Capital represented a "good business career." You guys are pathetic if you think you can attack his business record.

This while Obama looked right past and gave him a "limp fish" handshake while lying to him. Then the bitch Hillary tells him that they will find and arrest the guy that made the movie.
These dirty lying cowards need to crawl back under their rocks and and live the rest of their lives in shame. Or be indicted and sent where they belong.
You libtards/turds should be ashamed. But I bet your not. Typical. You'll get yours in 10 days and you best start looking for a job.
Jimmy Carter now comes in black. Obama makes Jimmy look better and better everyday.
Not the biggest surprise. As a longtime reader of the Register it's been a bit shocking to see Gannett squelch the Liberal voices over the past couple of years. The editorial page has taken on a decidedly Conservative flavor with ALL of the editorial cartoons and about 3/4 of the editorials from Conservative writers. Apparently the corporate parent has decided that Conservatives buy more newspapers. The Register is a shell of its former Pulitzer-winning self.
Obama is like a home builder who had four years to build a house. After the four years and creating a mountain of debt, the house is still waiting to be built - and all the builder can do is criticize the builder who wants to replace him!

Obama/Biden
Every time you look you see another organization or person in leadership who endorsed Obama in '08 who are now endorsing Romney. It is not because any of them are all that in love with Romney, it is just that they are disgusted with Obama. Obama came in preaching "hope and change" and delivered nothing. He has been one of the most divisive presidents in history. He intentionally tries to instigate class warfare to tear this country apart. He is hoping that by giving people someone else to be angry with they will not recognize the fact that he has been a complete failure as a president. Obama made promises like no lobbyists in his administration and then immediately turned around within days of being elected and started granting himself waivers to his own policy to give jobs to his crony friends. He has done everything possible to divide the congress and the nation with his rhetoric. It was readily apparent when he was first elected that he had no intention of working with both parties for the good of the country. This was clearly exhibited by the way he led the democrats behind closed doors to put together Obamacare without any input from the republicans. He had a the majority in both houses of congress that he needed to get it passed and so no need to include the other side or any of their concerns in the legislation. The only things that got left out that Obama wanted were things he could not even convince his own party to go for. When the public got disgusted with the democrats in '10 and turned the house over to the republicans everything came to a halt. This was because Obama and the democrats were unwilling to work with the republicans and compromise and because of all the bad blood built up during the first two years of Obama's reign when he completely shut out the republicans. Obama reaped what he sowed. This is not the republicans fault, it is the backlash from Obama and the democrat's own actions. Then when Obama no longer had the majority in both houses he needed to push through his agenda, he resorted to ignoring the Constitution and the separation of powers clause. He simply started issuing executive orders that countermanded duly passed federal statutes in order to implement his vision. Congress would not pass his DREAM act because the American people did not want it so Obama issued an executive order and did it on his own. He potentially handed out 1.8 million new work permits to illegals when we have more than ten times that many legal Americans out of work looking for jobs. He did it solely to get the Hispanic votes! Whether or not it was the right thing for the nation never even entered into his thought process, it was simply about doing what he needed to do to get reelected, regardless of the cost to the nation or legal Americans!!! Obama has acted more like a dictator than a president and certainly does not know the first thing about leading a group of people, let alone a nation. He has never had a real job in his life and has never had to lead employees who could simply walk out and get a new job whenever they felt like it. He knows absolutely nothing about how to motivate people, and particularly not how to motivate people who do not see 100% eye-to-eye with him. The only people he can motivate are the sheep who buy into his rhetoric and do not want to even look at the evidence of his failures. It is time we put someone in the presidency who knows how to run a business and motivate people. I may not be convinced that Romney is that man, but I am convinced that Obama is NOT!!!
LMAO Beverly...you really need to go out and get some fresh air! That article talks about 'stories' yet never cite the source. As for voter fraud by not revealing his taxes....he released the same number of years that Reagan did. If you're old enough to remember that year, it was a landslide; if you're not, put down the kool-aid and research it. Oh, and get off the bigot bullshyt! The country elected the half-black man, remember? The undecideds who aren't IDIOTS and Kool-aid drinkers will make a clear choice...and that choice will be Romney/Ryan.
~~If you're not outraged by the direction of this country, you're just not paying attention~~
Great links Bev.
This is only the Des Moines Register's SECOND Republican endorsement SINCE 1950!!!!!!!!!
Governor Romney will make a fantastic President.
* He will to cross the aisle and be willing to compromise.
* He will focus on fixing our horrendous economy.
* He will solve our long term debt and deficit crises.
* He will work to make Medicare and Social Security solvent.
These are ALL a departure from President Obama, a rigid idealogue who wasted TWO YEARS on a health care bill that wasn't read by Congress before passed, was lied about in the process ("if you like the health care you have, you can keep the health care you have"), was utterly and completely partisan, will not add a single doctor but will add 16,000 IRS agents, and which 60% of Americans want repealed.

Sal, perhaps you're right. Is Mitt attending the game this evening? It is after all his home state.
And I am paying attention to the direction this country is taking.
Here's the deal -
We're not just trying to beat Romney. We're trying to beat a huge right wing power grab.
Won't that be something if we succeed? The democratic party, a party which stands for democracy, and which for some reason here in the 21st century has very little media support, just might beat the SOBs.
Corporate media take over has been a real downer. But together we as a nation are standing together as one. We don't need the media. We have each other and social media.
That's the future. As untrusting as our Congress is, our media is thought of as even less trustworthy.

HOW IRRESPONSIBLE.

Beverly.......did you honestly just say that the Democratic Party has very little media support??? Are you truly that delusional? If there was such a crime, those at MSNBC, CBS, and ABC would be prosecuted for media malpractice. They are so in the tank for the Democratic party that it's obvious even to most liberals. It's obvious that anything I say to you is unable to be comprehended due to your total brainwashing, so I'll save my time and energy and wish you a speedy recovery.

The last time this paper endorsed a republican was in 1972 when they endorsed Richard Nixon. What a track record!! I think Romney is a thousand times more slippery than Nixon ever could be.I pray that unlike Nixon, Romney does not get the chance to tell us: 'I'm not a Crook.'
The Des Moines Register is own by the Gannett Company and the president/CEO of Gannett is Gracia Martore (April 2011).
Ms Martore is a LDS church member (Mormon church)..go figure why after four decades The Des Moines Register endorsed a Republican candidate for president!

And many more important newspapers, including one in Salt Lake City, Utah, have endorsed President Obama.
If you are a woman, no matter what your religious views, the cutback of healthcare for women and children under Romney/Ryan should be of great concern.
Romney and Ryan signing on to the Grover Norquist never tax the rich pledge should concern you. Offshore investments should concern you. Controlling stock in Bain (even now) although claiming it is a blind trust should concern you. Not revealing all taxes should concern you.
Flip-flopping policies of Romney and Ryan should concern you.
Obama's work to streamline government and at the same time keep the middle class should be something that is a big plus. Jobs needs improvement, but without Republican cooperation in Congress (and no, they don't play well with others), it is impossible to do much.

If you knew anything you would know there is more right wing media than liberal.
In 1798, the Congress of the United States passed the Alien and Sedition Acts, which prohibited the publication of "false, scandalous, or malicious writing" against the government, and made it a crime to voice any public opposition to any law or presidential act.
Too bad that is no longer n effect because RADIO RWANDA aka FOX NEWS & Republican Headquarter is one of the vile, treasonous, operation.
In 2008 George W. Bush's press secretary Scott McClellan published a book in which he confessed to regularly and routinely, but unknowingly, passing on lies to the media, following the instructions of his superiors, lies that the media reported as facts. He characterizes the press as, by and large, honest, and intent on telling the truth, but reports that "the national press corps was probably too deferential to the White House", especially on the subject of the war in Iraq.; remember? Believe me, I know plenty....and the simple fact that the only channel you can mention that's right wing is FOX is proof of your inaccuracies. MSNBC, ABC, CBS, even many on CNN are all in the tank for Obama. Also, please stop spewing lies, FOX is NOT banned in Canada, research it! Thank GOD we don't have that stupid law anymore! It should NEVER be a crime to voice opposition to laws or anything the president does. One of my favorite quotes is by Teddy Roosevelt, and as an Independent, I have had the pleasure of using it on both sides of the aisle: "The President is merely the most important among a large number of public servants. He should be supported or opposed exactly to the degree which is warranted by his good conduct or bad conduct, his efficiency or inefficiency in rendering loyal, able, and disinterested service to the Nation as a whole. Therefore it is absolutely necessary that there should be full liberty to tell the truth about his acts, and this means that it is exactly necessary to blame him when he does wrong as to praise him when he does right. Any other attitude in an American citizen is both base and servile. To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public. Nothing but the truth should be spoken about him or any one else. But it is even more important to tell the truth, pleasant or unpleasant, about him than about any one else."

If Romney should somehow prevail, it will mark the end of our democratic republic and the notion of 'one man, one vote'. When a few very wealthy individuals can drown out the voices of the masses with money, America has truly ceased to be a nation governed by the people. Especially when foreign stockholders of multi-national corporations are legally allowed to anonymously finance American candidates for public offices.

Romney, presidential?
He spent the entire summer on his boat. Except when he got out the shopping cart and went grocery shopping.
I haven't seen or heard from him in days. He spent last night with Glenn Beck. You call that presidential? Glenn Beck? He has spent his entire campaign lying. You call that presidential? He just lied the other day about Chrysler. His latest lie.
And as people have pointed out, a Utah newspaper endorsed Obama. But he isn't going to win Utah, now is he?
However, there's a very good chance Obama will win Iowa.

You cannot be anymore wrong.
The United States government is the biggest service business in the world.
Each and every American citizen is joined in a contract with our government. This contract is called the Constitution. Our Constitution protects us from exactly what we have been seeing Progressivism try to do for a century. Our Constitution IS a charter of negative liberties despite what Barrack Hussein says. It was created to prevent government expanding unsustainably as we see today.
Governments purpose is to serve us not vice versa.
Our Constitution mandates the 18 Enumerated Powers be provided via taxation or other revenue. Government is a massive service industry under these requirements. We The People allow it to use our hard earned tax dollars to provide, as a service, those 18 powers.
No more, no less.
It is required to provide us with a prudent budget and its transparency must be unquestioned. Just like any other business it should be accountable and responsible to us. Any implied powers must be given to the States and the People as required by the 9th and 10th Amendments.
Just like any other service industry it contracts with private sector businesses to allow the Enumerated Powers to be maintained. The States do the same under their Constitutions to provide all other services.
Our government has revenue (taxes, bonds, etc.) just like a business, and it has expenses (the Enumerated Powers). Just like any other business these two must balance otherwise the business suffers. Our government has a single luxury that other businesses don't have, it doesn't have to be profitable. All we require is it not exceed its revenues. It doesn't have to provide profits, dividends or other benefits, we are required as citizens, rightfully or otherwise, to provide its revenue.
No more, no less.
What we have seen for a century is an abrogation of this contract. We have allowed our government to expand, uncontrolled, into the disaster we see today. Monetary malfeasance, fiscal malinvestment, ideology and corruption by authority have driven our government, our economy, our security and our Freedoms into an unsustainable debt.
It's time to let a businessman run our government business. We have tried lawyers, elitists and alleged intellectuals and they have all failed. The alleged "cliff" we were saved from is insignificant if we allow the status quo to continue. A century of failure is enough, it's time for a new direction and new leadership.
ROMNEY/RYAN 2012 FOR REAL AMERICANS©
If the number 40 sounds familiar, that's because of another earth-shattering event in 1994. It was the first time in 40 years that the House of Representatives was taken over by Republicans. Thanksgiving is coming early this year and Michelle won't be proud of her country anymore.

My current electoral map has Romney leading 261 electoral votes to Obama's 243 with the states Ohio, Wisconsin and Iowa still up for grabs. In this scenerio, Romney can win by taking either Ohio or Wisconsin while Obama would need to take both. If my map should turn out to be correct, Iowa wouldn't be a factor.

Here is another one:
Obama will win, but with a lower vote
ON December 27, 2008, Inquirer published my article on presidential elections in the US, in which I predicted Barack Obama would win with a bigger margin in 2012 than he had enjoyed in 2008.
I predict that on November 6 Romney will win all the states taken by McCain in 2008. He will also win North Carolina, Indiana, Florida and the Nebraska second district to which mention was made above. Consequently, I predict Romney will win 235 votes in the electoral college. That would leave Obama winning the election with 303 votes.

That said, I doubt any paper's endorsement carries any weight anymore. Once upon a time, there were multiple papers in cities, and there were fewer ways to get news- in those days, endorsements mattered.

MYTH won't win Ohio.
Signs: Romney discouraged in Ohio & looking to Wisconsin
Consider these factors:
1. First, in a piece published Friday night, Huffington Post hints that Romney/Ryan may have privately conceded that Ohio is too steep an uphill climb:
Romney campaign officials would never publicly announce a change in approach. And it's not that they are giving up entirely on Ohio; they certainly have the money to compete anywhere. But Republican sources say Romney headquarters in Boston is increasingly seeing Wisconsin as a state more apt for flipping.
Also on Friday, Scott Rasmussen posted a conveniently timed poll showing the race (gasp!) all tied up in the Badger State, 49-49. He also was kind enough to post a special "commentary" of why, as he puts it: Wisconsin may be the New Ohio.
The simplest path without Ohio would be for Romney to win Wisconsin, Colorado and one other swing state. It's plausible, but an uphill struggle. The latest Rasmussen Reports polling in Wisconsin shows the president up by 2 points

oh yes, that influential world re-known paper The Des Moines Register. I read it everyday right before the NY Times and the Washington Post.
They've only endorsed Democrats for the last 40 years, which means they've been wrong half the time, and they've done it in Iowa, not exactly a huge Democratic stronghold. Not a stronghold of anything really if you want to be honest. So they are either--out of touch with their readership, or out to make their own headline. Did they endorse Willard in the "caucuses"--a perfect example of the most meaningless way to decide a candidate in the history of democracy?

MYTH won't win Ohio.
Beverly:
I read that article in Huffington Post after Feisty pointed out that my analysis was similar to it. There are big differences however, as their electoral map has Obama leading 277 electoral votes to Romney's 206. The problem with their map is it is based on outdated polls that at one time had Obama up in many more of the swing states than he currently is.
First of all, let's get rid of Florida and North Carolina and give those to Romney as they are no more in play than Pennsylvania and Michigan are which both should go to Obama. Of the remaining swing states, I have Virginia, New Hampshire and Colorado all going to Romney with Obama taking Nevada. That would leave only Ohio, Wisconsin and Iowa still in play.
The Huffington Post article assumes that their calculus for the swing states is correct and that because of this, Romney must be desperate because he can't win Ohio and so he's going to Wisconsin instead. This is speculation on their part.
By my own analysis, all of the remaining swing states (Ohio, Wisconsin and Iowa) are in a dead heat and currently are too close to call. Because of this, Romney can win by taking either Ohio or Wisconsin. It would behoove him to make a play for Wisconsin to hedge his bet in case Obama were to win in Ohio. Remember, Romney will lose the election if he loses both states (or Obama would win) so why wouldn't he campaign in Wisconsin to insure that this couldn't happen?
This is a new low, and a personal attack, from "Independent Thought," making fun of my husband.

Romney Makes Closing Argument At Firm That Benefited From Stimulus Funds
A search of Recovery.gov shows that the firm benefited from hundreds of thousands of dollars in contracts funded by the Recovery Act. Kinzler received $649,944 in contracts under stimulus-funded Department of Energy weatherization programs. The company also received $39,370 as a sub-contractor on a federal government contract to renovate a building owned by the federal government, making for a total of $689,314 in stimulus funds.
This is not the first time that Romney has spoken at venues that undermine his economic claims. Earlier this week, Romney and his running mate campaigned at the Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado, a national landmark built as a public works project during the New Deal. Ann Romney recently visited a Florida cancer center that received nearly $24 million in stimulus funds. And, among many other examples, Romney bashed the stimulus at a college that received stimulus funds for federal work-study programs that help make college more affordable.
Update:
Romney bashes the stimulus Kinzler benefited from in his speech:
A new stimulus, three years after the recession officially ended, may spare government, but it will not stimulate the private sector any better than did the stimulus of four years ago. And cutting one trillion dollars from the military will kill jobs and devastate our national defense.

This is for Sal...
Fox News will not be moving into Canada after all! The reason: Canadian regulators announced last week they would reject efforts by Canada's right-wing Prime Minister, Stephen Harper, to repeal a law that forbids lying on broadcast news.
Canada's Radio Act requires that "a licenser may not broadcast ... any false or misleading news." The provision has kept Fox News and right-wing talk radio out of Canada and helped make Canada a model for liberal democracy and freedom. As a result of that law, Canadians enjoy high quality news coverage, including the kind of foreign affairs and investigative journalism that flourished in this country before Ronald Reagan abolished the "Fairness Doctrine" in 1987. Political dialogue in Canada is marked by civility, modesty, honesty, collegiality, and idealism that have pretty much disappeared on the US airwaves. When Stephen Harper moved to abolish the anti-lying provision of the Radio Act, Canadians rose up to oppose him fearing that their tradition of honest non-partisan news would be replaced by the toxic, overtly partisan, biased and dishonest news coverage familiar to American citizens who listen to Fox News and talk radio. Harper's proposal was timed to facilitate the launch of a new right-wing network, "Sun TV News" which Canadians call "Fox News North."
FAUX SPEWS isn't even a credible news source HERE. They have as much credibility as The Onion, The National Enquirer and The Jerry Springer Show.

Obama/Biden 2012
Good Nite
Does anyone really vote or change their vote depending on who some media company endorses? I guess the media likes to think they do. Maybe, if they're lucky one or two votes may come from an endorsement.
Remember these?
THE OBAMA CHRONICLES:
“I promise 100% transparency in my administration.”.
“I promise NO NEW TAXES on a family making less than $250K a year.”.
“I will allow 5 days of public comment before I sign any bills.”.
“I will remove earmarks from PORK projects before I sign any bill.”.
“I will end Income Tax for seniors making less than $50K a year.”.
"I will bring ALL of our troops home within ONE year."
“I’ll put the Health Care negotiations on CSPAN so everyone can see who is at the table!”.
“I’ll have no lobbyists in my administration."
"I'll close Guantanamo."
"I'll resign if I don't cut the deficit in half by the end of four years."
"I'll unite the people of this great country."
BETTER KNOWN AS LIES.
Fool me once shame on YOU!
Fool me twice shame on ME

Beverly:
I guess we'll see who was correct on election day. For example, will I be correct that Romney takes Virginia, or will the Washington Post poll be that Obama wins it by four? (FYI their poll oversampled Democrats by 8 points.) Just remember as you're watching the results that I called Virginia, New Hampshire and Colorado for Romney.
I just realized where Romney claims he's going to create 12 million jobs. Comedians, 12 million comedians! He is even giving you the material.
Republicans have no place in Government but they have a huge place in show business. All make good comedians!
The last Republican this paper endorsed and who won was Nixon. He was impeached and forced to resign the presidency. This should show everyone how good these folks are at sizing up Republican candidates. Forgettaboutit!
Obama/Biden 2012
Yeah Beverly,
The Romney campaign is so discouraged, they are on a 2 day bus tour in Ohio.
Minnesota poll to day undersampled Republicans in Minnesota by 6 points, Obama 47, Romney 44. The Romney camp is buying air time in Minnesota (to capture more of Western Michigan). I looked at the analysis, that is Democrats and Independents turning to Romney. The Romney Campaign sees this, they may add some more money to Minnesota.
Inside a lot of these poll showing Obama up shows Romney with slightly higher favoralbles mostly on the economy. Economy is the message that Romney is selling and apparently convincing people to change from default support of the incumbent.
Carter effect anyone?
First Nixon, now Romney. Trying to one up themselves on picking the biggest loser for president? Romney would be worse than Nixon and Bush in one.
Please, I challenge you to find facts to back up your claims? Quite frankly, the only people feeble minded enough to believe that dribble without credible sources had their minds made up already, and refuse to look at the state of our economy and the economic failures this adminstration has had in the past four years. I'm not a fan of Romney by any means, but he is by far the lesser of two evils in this election.
I love reading all the leftist posts on here!!
Sour grapes about the Des Moines Register. (Oh, well I've never read it so it's not that important)
Conspiracy theories about who owns the paper (the editor's third-cousin's babsy-sitter's mailman is a Mormon!)
Copy and paste hit pieces on Romney which have been debunked.
You Lefties are desperate!!! And nervous!!!!!
Kasucks the GOP GOV of Ohio removed people of his own party off of committees who didn't agree with his attempts to remove all rights of Union workers in the State called SB5 or senate bill 5 issue 2 was what it later placed on the ballot. This was put on the ballot by the state voters and Championed by the Senate Dem. Sherrod Brown who Republicans have spent more then 33 million the highest ever in the state history to try to muddy his record because of the SB5 overturned by a margin of 61%-38%. Kasuck said SB5/Issue 2 would be upheld by Voters about the same margin and he was DEAD WRONG. You know who else supported SB5 after some waffle comments at first OH YEAH IT was MITT ROMNEY he said he Fully Supported SB5 Issue 2 and also recently what happened in Wisconsin should be the Model for the nation. He is not out for Workers at all. We don't get Romnesia here we know he was speaking the truth in his 47 percent comments so we will speak the truth at the ballot box with 4 more years....
Obama 2012 -- Romney 1040
And as we speak Romneys vulture business Bain Capitol which he is still a huge shareholder is dismantling and shipping American jobs from a profitable U.S. company(Sensata) to China. Romney is the most ruthless and despicable type of business man in our country and the right wants him to be our president. I hope all you conservatives are willing to move to China if you still want your job.
On the day before an election that's supposed to hinge on jobs, taxes and the middle class, Bain Capital, the company Mitt Romney founded, will close the doors of a factory in Freeport, Illinois, and ship 170 good, high-tech jobs to China.
The employees of Sensata Technologies were forced to train their Chinese replacements, and the American flag that long flew over the factory was reportedly removed while the Chinese engineers were visiting the site. A group of workers have set up camp across from the factory -- calling it “Bainport” -- and some supporters have tried to block the trucks hauling equipment out of the plant. According to Dave Johnson, there have been several arrests.
Sensata workers have asked to meet with Mitt Romney and hoped to enlist his help keeping their jobs in the United States, but he has refused, instead remaining on the campaign trail where he speaks often about “getting tough” with China.
The most important part of the story is that Sensata Technologies is profitable operating in Illinois. Net income last year was $355 million, up 16 percent from 2010. The company reported total revenues of $1.8 billion in 2011, up almost 19 percent from the year before. According to a company financial statement, “both 2011 net revenue and adjusted net income represent record levels for the company.”
So this has nothing to do with “making hard choices” in the process of turning around a failing business, which is how the Romney campaign describes Bain's corporate raiding. Bain's partners are looking for a modest boost in profits by locating the plant closer to the booming Asian automotive market (Sensata makes high-tech automotive parts). They'll get a small tax break for relocating the plant – the one Mitt Romney insisted did not exist during the first debate – and possibly defer taxes on some of the income the company generates.
A newpaper, endorsing a Republican candidate for the Presidency? I think that Satan is getting his zamboni ready to clean up the rink! Or, maybe he is turning up the thermostat because he's getting a bit of a chill. Ok, for you liberals, I think that there may be a snowstorm in Hades!
Back at ya, business is not a government and government should NOT be running any business. That's the private sector's job. You may not have figured it out.
Either Romneys policies can help this country more than Obama's or Romney is the best Bull$hitter I've ever come across in my life. Their both making huge promises that they even know their not going to keep. It's lies ontop of more lies. And they expect us to eat this ####. But this dog and pony show has an ending, thank God, and it ends on Nov 6th.
The New York Times, Chicago Tribune have both endorsed Obama. Now, the Salt Lake city paper, the largest Mormon owned in the state has endorsed OBAMA. What do they know so many of you just don't get. The retread RINO rejected by his OWN! (They said there at "too many" Mitts.)
We have seen Obama for four years...we hoped the first black president would rise above politics, but he actually created the most partisan, gridlocked government we've ever seen. Our country is completely disunited and polarized, unlike what Obama promised and delivered. From his very start, Obama's rhetoric didn't match his action.
I had hope Obama would change things, but he fell short and his leadership found lacking.
Romney/Ryan 2012
Oh please, spare me your laughable lib spewage. The fact is that the House will remain Republican and the Senate will remain Democratic; the only chance for any change whatsoever is a change at the top. If Obama is re-elected it will be at least 2 more years of the mess we're still in now. Of course you and your libby cohorts will continue to blame Bush. You'd also have to be delusional to think that the Times and Tribune would ever EVER endorse a Republican.
Wow YankeeBOY, the NY Times and the Chicago Tribune? What a shocker! Oh, and by the way, the Salt Lake Tribune also endorsed Obama in '08. Contrary to what you're trying to peddle, the Deseret News, not the Tribune, is the Salt Lake City newspaper that is owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
~~If you're not outraged by the direction of this country, you're just not paying attention~~
Embracing change caused gridlock. Those in power don't like change.
Yankee Boy-957719 -Now, the Salt Lake city paper, the largest Mormon owned in the state has endorsed OBAMA. What do they know so many of you just don't get.
Actually the Salt Lake Tribune doesn't represent the "Mormons". It is liberal. the Deseret Newspaper is owned by them and reflects their views as well as current news and interest stories around the world for Utah residents. You lose respect and reliability when you can't get simple information straight.Better to appear a fool then to open one's mouth and remove all doubt.
This is HUGE news. This paper has not endorsed a Repub in 40 years. They are clearly saying that Obama is too partisan and closed minded to get things done in Washington. An extremely astute assessment on their part.
Stop Bankrupt.....
I'd say the gridlock started with "my number one goal is to make him a one-term president" That was the plan and they've stuck to it for 4 years.
Now, I see an argument that Obama winning will not break it, but I for one am not willing to be extorted. I'm not voting for Romney over threat that our government won't work unless....
Last R pick was Nixon? Good choice there.
That also means they picked Carter, Mondale, Dukakis, Gore, and Kerry.
Not too good as a predictor of winning.
SmBusOwner: I think this is the whole problem: that the Republicans that are in office are not governing, but extorting. They block votes that they would have sponsored, just for revenge against Democrats.
What have the Democrats ever done for the Republicans: Pres. Obama nominated centrist people for Cabinet and Supreme Court. He tried again and again to reach across the aisle, including in the health care bill, for ideas and to hone the bill. If you look at the Congressional Record during any of the time that the Republicans were "debating" this bill, they talked about things totally irrelevant. They claimed to represent doctors, but they NEVER brought any real ideas to the table that might have helped the doctors. It was the Republicans that dragged out the vote on healthcare for such a long time. America WANTS healthcare that is affordable and that won't be cut off. The trouble is, America looked at the final bill, and saw TOO MUCH compromise with the insurance companies and pharmaceutical companies.
So, with the multiple millions of dollars the Republicans have, they told everybody that Medicare is cut because of the Democrats, when all the Democrats have done is to re-negotiate some prices in order to save Medicare from bankruptcy. The Republicans have vowed to cut or change Medicare much more than that. Their programs of vouchers will not pay for the kind of care that elderly people really need.
Extortion hurts. Think Mexican or Central American governments that steal the treasury; what has become of those countries? President Obama's government has saved money; loans to banks have been PAID BACK. Meanwhile, however, bills that might help ordinary Americans pay back their mortgages without an accounting error causing foreclosure just don't pass those Republicans, who automatically vote NO.
Finally, as a rape victim myself, I am very disturbed that any person, man or woman, that is considering voting in this election, would vote for any Republican in the House, Senate, or for President. What the Republicans have been saying (and the pledge they all took to support the Ryan-Akin bill) is painful for those of us who have ever been crime victims. Have you ever had a gun pointed at your head? Have you ever had a gun pointed at your CHILD'S head? This is a nightmare for me, and I hope that my fellow Americans have the decency to vote Democrat in this election.
The Des Moines Register Editorial Board is not that influential in Iowa. They are pretty much Ham & Eggers as far as Editorial Boards go. As an Iowan that has voted early for Obama and Vilsack, I feel the two point Obama lead will not change in the next 10 days. The New York Times Nate Silver's Political Calculus column, shows the divergent trend lines of Obama going up in electoral votes, and Romney going down in electoral votes.
The Obama ground team in Iowa is superior and better than 2008. Its a matter of trust and integrity that Obama displays, accounting for his winning Iowa.
Elizabeth,
Absolutely, the republicans in Congress did everything humanly possible to prevent Obama from doing anything meaningful to jump start the economy and put people back to work. Funny how no one talks about how the severely depressed European import market has affected jobs in America...Republicans are desperately trying to benefit by blaming all of America's economic hardships on Obama....We must hold the republican traitors in Congress accountable for all the pain and suffering they have inflicted upon the American middle class and poor.
Rightwingers live in an alternate parallel universe somewhere. They keep blaming Obama for things that are SOLELY attributed to the REPUBLICANS. They seem to forget that a handful of TRAITORS made a secret pack from DAY ONE that they would obstruct ANY and ALL efforts of Pres Obama to turn this economy around. And try as they may he still had NUMEROUS accomplishments over the last 3 1/2 yrs AND EVERYTHING is heading towards recovery. They just live in denial and can't bring themselves to admit it. In TeaTardLand... black is white, up is down, lies are truth.
"We have seen Obama for four years...we hoped the first black president would rise above politics, but he actually created the most partisan, gridlocked government we've ever seen"
Blaming President Obama for the current gridlock is like blaming the early Christians for being eaten by the lions. On his very first day in office Republicans decided to oppose everything he wanted. McConnell said Republicans primary objective was to make President Obama a one term president. President Obama offered the Republicans in the House 10 dollars in spending cuts for every 1 dollar in tax increases. They said NO.
Rush the junkie Limbaugh, the real leader of the Republican Party, laid out the Republican marching orders in early 2009 --- "we want Obama to fail". That's been the Republican objective ever since --- to hell with the nation, let's get Obama. There's a difference between being in the opposition and being an enemy. Republicans have always viewed President Obama as their enemy and in their fanatical desire to destroy President Obama at any cost, they have lost all focus on what’s best for America. The 21st century Republican Party doesn't care if the US crashes and burns as long as they can destroy the President.
People,
I see. So it all the Repubs fault that Obama has gotten us into this mess? It must be their fault that we took out Obama as well. LOLOLOL!
Elizabeth, sorry for the crime that was committed against you. If it were up to me that person would get the gas chamber. In terms of Romneys position, he has indicated he supports abortion in cases of rape, incest and the health of the mother. I would not be so quick to broadbrush all Repubs as anything. To me that is like saying Obama supports socialism because a few way left wingers thinks that where we ought to be.
It is comments like these which will likely lead to a Romney victory. He is willing to work across the aisle and has proven it. This country needs productive bi-partisanship and Obama has proven he wants nothing to do with it (Exhibit A being Obamacare).
They made the right decision. $16 trillion in debt is a BIG deal, and Obama wasn't up for the challenge--made things worse. It's time for a NEW Hope and Change.
Romney/Ryan 2012
Backward change? Can you imagine that weasel Ryan as President? God save us.
Ryan has good ideas if he can help cut government spending, bloated deficits and this outrageous debt that is destroying/bankrupting our country. Hopefully Ryan will use a CHAINSAW and not a BUTTERKNIFE in approaching the size and scope of government.
Well, I don't have to imagine the disaster that has been 4 years of Barry and company.
George Bush $hit the bed for 8 years. Billions wasted in wars chasing bogeymen and asleep when wallstreet raped the country. Now you want to see the true Antichrist of the GOP. Strap yourself in if this corporate raider takes the reins, the 1%'ers are drooling at the billions in tax savings if their man wins.
Get out early and vote, the written off 47% are very powerful in the voting booths.
IXLR8:
No, we moms, wives, daughters, friends, employees, leaders, volunteers, including 99%ers and 47%ers, want our nation back. Corporations are necessary, we need jobs, we need bipartisanship.
Nothing more, nothing less.
Rommey/Ryan for the "United" States of America
Ryan-Akin have written a bill, signed as a pledge by every Republican, that is such an offense to women that I cannot begin to describe my outrage.
I AM A RAPE VICTIM. My child had a gun pointed at her head. Anybody who votes for a Republican in the House, Senate, or for President is voting to demean and humiliate women. Ryan's only good idea would be to concede this election and step away from his hateful policies.
moms, wives, daughters...
Want a job sent overseas? Bain is doing that right now. Romney still owns controlling stock in Bain, and he has not divested himself of that stock. Blind trust, he says... but he still could get rid of that stock. Romney represents TAKING AWAY JOBS.
And your moms, wives, and daughters will be humiliated if you vote Republican in this election. Is that what you want? Do you ever again expect your moms, wives, or daughters to support you?
Something tells me not a one of you righties was on here ranting about the deficit when Mr. Bush and crowd was spending money like a drunken sailor. If God forbid, Romney is elected, I am sure that's the LAST time you neocons will mention it again.
Also, FORMER Gov. Romney saying he will create 12 million jobs and FORMER Gov. Romney actually creating said jobs are vastly different things. Don't any of you wonder how he plans to decrease taxes, decrease the debt, increase military spending and yet not touch your deductions? Ahh yes, just trust him. He wouldn't lie just to become President would he?
Elizabeth:
I am so sorry for your life tragedies, we have all had them. The current leadership's moral compass is so low, look at Obama's recent ad and vocabulary, that I can't bare to tell my daughter I re-elected him. Like I have said on other posts, if Obama was interested in what's between my ears, not my thighs, I maybe would have more respect.
I know you want to scream, but you really don't have to, it won't change my mind. For me, a return to family values is imperative, whether you like those or not.
Romney/Ryan 2012
stop bankrupting US,
If you are counting on Ryan to stop the bloated deficits and ballooning of the national debt, I wish you luck. Maybe you are one of those who were not around when Ryan with a majority republican Congress voted again and again to give G.W. Bush blank check after blank check to fund his two wars and Medicare part-D program while cutting revenue at the same time......Where is this fiscal responsibility republicans keep talking about ? It was they who started the spending binge by spending six trillion dollars more than they brought in over the first six years of the Bush administration.......Do a fact check........
Independent Thought,
The only family values people like Ryan, Akin and Rushmouth Limpballs support are Christian Taliban style Shariah laws which suppress individual liberty and freedom of choice, the very things people fled England and Europe to get away from.............Never in America will we allow religious zealots to seize control !!!!
Republicans HAVE NO VALUES...unless you consider GREED, SELFISHNESS, BIGOTRY, RACISM, MISOGYNY,, LYING, DECEIVING, HATRED, INTOLERANCE and IGNORANCE 'values'. You people have absolutely ZERO empathy, compassion, honesty, morals, scruples , ethics or conscience. I feed REALLY sorry for your poor daughter.
OBAMA / BIDEN 2012 ..... because LIARS, TAX CHEATS, CORPORATE RAIDERS, CHICKENHAWK WAR MONGERS who have ZERO respect for women and see them as merely OBJECTS to be used, abused and controlled ARE NOT GOOD for this country.
Moral compass? Family values? I am voting for President Obama because he has moral family values.
I don't think most people realize just how much of a tragedy rape really is. Anybody who belittles rape victims has no family values at all.
Elizabeth:
I find the two far right men, that made those horrific statements, a disgrace. Just because Romney happens to represent the party does not mean that he will condone such comments.
This is similar to Obama's fringe left acquaintances, no need to mention the "wright" names. Like Romney, Obama didn't want to be labeled with their ideologies either.
Believe it or not, the alarmist ads and silly one-liners don't sway rational and reasonable.
Romney/Ryan are necessary for our fiscal future and bipartisan agreements
Listening to these Republicans, one would think that on January 19, 2009 the country was in great shape with a massive surplus, record low unemployment, a booming economy, increasing wages -- everything was just outstanding. Then -- Obama took office on Jan 20, 2009 and everything immediately came crashing down.
Now -- how about a reality check? The nation was much closer to that ideal on January 19, 2001 when Clinton left office but on January 19, 2009 when Bush left office, we were on the verge of a depression.
Don't get raped in November. President Obama is the only clear choice for a strong America.
Et tu, Register? It's stunning that a institution that is pledged to impartiality would be so gullible. Obama's responsible for the partisan gridlock? Obama's policies have failed? Says who? Oh, right, the Republicans. Open your eyes, people, you're being conned. This is a weird and unsettling time in history. You win, Roger Ailes.
Arthur-Governor Romney will make a fantastic President.(NOT)
Only if you are right-wing crazy,or belong to the 1%. For real Americans,he will outsource your jobs, take away our rights, and raise our taxes for the benefit of his wealthy buddies.
* He will to cross the aisle and be willing to compromise.
The only record we have to judge that by is his time as Governor of Mass. And his record shows a total opposite. He couldn't work with his Democratic Statehouse and compromise. He vetoed hundreds of bills sent to him, most of which the Democrats just overruled on him. He was so hated as Governor Mass. won't vote for him now. He balanced his state budget only by cutting education, sky rocketing all state fee's,while cutting taxes for the wealthy in his state.
* He will focus on fixing our horrendous economy.
The President has already done the heavy lifting to get our economy coming back from the economic collapse the last Republican President left us with. He saved the auto industry that Romney opposed. Unemployment is down, investor and consumer confidence on the raise. Over 5.2 million jobs have been created. The housing industry is doing better than it has in years, and American exports and energy resources are on the uptick. The IMF has said that the Presidents policies have caused the US to weather the global recession stronger than most of the world's economies. Now Romney wants to return to the Bush era policies that caused our collapse to begin with.
* He will solve our long term debt and deficit crises.
After constantly attacking the President for not eliminating the deficit in the middle of the worst economic collapse since the great depression of 1929. Romney now says it will take him 2 terms to balance the budget and eliminate the deficit. He wants to give a huge tax cut to the richest Americans costing $5 trillion, and raise unasked for military spending an extra $2 trillion to benefit his wealthy donors. All non-partisan economists say this will balloon the deficit and national debt. They say Romney's figures don't pass the math test and will raise middle-class taxes, while stripping the social programs for seniors, children, and the poorest Americans.
* He will work to make Medicare and Social Security solvent.
This statement brings to mind the saying about letting the "fox into the henhouse". From the beginning of these programs the Republicans have opposed there very existence. Now Romney's advisers, most importantly his VP pick Paul Ryan want to privatize Medicare and put in a "voucher" system instead. This would do untold harm to seniors today, and eliminate protection for future generations of Americans. As for Social Security. For years the Republicans have also wanted to privatize it .Opening it up to the Wall Street bankers that helped bring on the 2008-2009 collapse that destroyed the savings of millions of Americans. If Romney and Ryan gain power, there is a strong possibility the radicals will make their move to privatize it again. This time without a President that would oppose them. But instead with one helping them.
This Romney/Ryan ticket and the right-wing Republican agenda they support,is the most regressive ticket and agenda in modern American history. Their social and economic ideas would return us to the age of the robber barons at the beginning of the 20th century. They would make Bush look like a liberal,an Ronald Reagan appear a socialist. Romney's VP Paul Ryan is so far to the crazy right on his social ideas of stripping help for the poor. That his own Catholic Church Bishops rejected his ideas as they said in these statements:
" “..the bishops sent letters to Congress saying that the Ryan budget, passed by the House, ‘fails to meet’ the moral criteria of the Church, namely its view that any budget should help ‘the least of these’ as the Christian Bible requires: the poor, the hungry, the homeless, the jobless. ‘A just spending bill cannot rely on disproportionate cuts in essential services to poor and vulnerable persons,’ the bishops wrote….’Your budget,’ a group of Jesuit scholars and other Georgetown University faculty members wrote to Ryan last week, ‘appears to reflect the values of your favorite philosopher, Ayn Rand, rather than the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Her call to selfishness and her antagonism toward religion are antithetical to the Gospel values of compassion and love…."
Romney,Ryan, their neo-con advisers, and their abhorrent social and economic policies are just plain wrong for America and our people. I urge all real Americans to reject these people Nov 6th. Show them they can't buy our freedom, and we will stand-up for America.
Do we really want to go down that slippery slope again with Romney? Everyone must have STM: short term memory. Recall the Bush/ Cheney days? Were they really all that good? Look at the key result areas if you will: Great Recession, 2 wars on credit, deregulation of our banks, tax cuts for wealthy, skyrocketing gas prices, inflation and all of the jobs that were lost in the process. Romney will lead us back to that. and no way are we going back.
This is an interesting move on their part.Let's see how the voters feel as well. It may be that perhaps after the past four years, folks are willing to give Mitt Romney the same opportunity they gave the President, when he promised them changes.
Change? Romney/Ryan have signed two horrible pledges: 1. To never ever tax the rich, and 2. To humiliate women and take away healthcare from them. That doesn't sound like change, but going way back to the feudal age.
Jobs won't happen under Romney, unless your job is in China. He still owns controlling stock in Bain, and they are still outsourcing jobs right now. That "blind trust" isn't so blind.
Elizabeth, they took the house because the voters decide then that the direction might not be right. I.E. they were supposed to slow the change down, which they did.
Elizabeth:
You are now sounding hysterical and irrational.
Romney/Ryan have families that actually include women, children, and many friends and family who depend on them to be reasonable and rational.
Hang in there!
DB Akron
Elizabeth, they took the house because the voters decide then that the direction might not be right. I.E. they were supposed to slow the change down, which they did.
DB Akron,
You are mistaken. The Tea Baggers took the House because the Koch brothers brought them; and Fox News fueled cyberspace Tea Parties.
The Fox Nation Hosting ‘Virtual Tea Party’ Online
Fox News’s recently launched online community The Fox Nation is hosting a “virtual” tea party today where people can go and say their piece about what’s bugging them.

On issues of race, bigotry and public perception
Since its inception, the Tea Party movement has struggled with charges of racism. Opponents cite a number of events as proof that the movement is, at least in part, motivated by bigotry and intolerance. Supporters, however, say the incidents are the work of "a few bad apples", a small fringe that have unfairly maligned the movement.[277][278] Examples include:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tea_Party_movement#Influence_of_Koch_Industries
Bev,
several black lawmakers said that demonstrators shouted racial epithets at them.[287][288][289] Congressman Emanuel Cleaver was spat upon, although it is unclear if this was deliberate, and said he heard the slurs. Congressman Barney Frank, who is gay, was called a "faggot".[287][290]
I have heard about this story, but never seen any evidence that would support it.
Source please.
Hysterical and Irrational because I have a real life story to tell, and not just Fox News talking points? This man was arrested for the crime and plead guilty in 1985; he died in prison in 1994. It is not irrational, it is painful. Talking about rape is painful, but Ryan-Akins has brought this into the face of every crime victim in America. It is not irrational or hysterical to remind people again and again that they are exposing women to great danger if they elect any Republicans. Yes, and your wife, your daughter, your sister, your mother too; they won't thank you for the outsourced jobs if Romney is elected, but they will be affected by their hatred of women.
If you ever have anything at all in your life to be that angry about, and not just the fake whining of a Fox News brainwash victim, I hope that you would be able to deal with it.
Elizabeth:
Again, I am sorry about the horrific experience that you have endured. No one should ever be exposed to such a terrible violation. May you find comfort.
What is challenging, is when you join a highly charged political NewsVine and start yelling for justice with caps and exclamations. Then if others have a differing opinion, you feel violated and victimized. This said, it is important to speak for yourself and all victims, however like most situations, people take you more seriously when words are spoken calmly.
I am not brain washed, that is another tired comment.
I want the nation back, I don't like the direction of our educational system, I am worried about the debt my children are going to face, I don't like how much time Obama spends on the entertainment circuit, I don't like that he isn't bipartisan (he hasn't produced a plan either or reached across the aisle) and my health insurance spiked $1800 last year. This doesn't mean I think it is good that Akin said what he said; he is an idiot.
But, he isn't Romney.

@ about 9 sec you can hear the N word in the background in between the chants. With the history of this country you shouldn't be surprised at all.
I wonder how much the people backing Romney paid the Register for that endorsement? Don't worry folks, it means nothing. Newspapers and newspaper organizations have been struggling for years. With the advent of the internet, they've become rather irrelevant. I'm sure their circulation is half of what it used to be.
tonybeeerm
YOU HOPE????
Look dipstick. I worked at a newspaper for years. I left in 2004 when I found out my job was being eliminated. Circulations started declining first with the introduction of cable news networks in the late 80's and into the early 90's. With the internet, even further than that. Most newspapers have stopped home delivery and have stemmed their single copy circulation to a percentage of what it once was. Look it up and find out what i'm saying is true. But hang on to that slim thread of hope that you have because it will all be over on Nov. 6 when Obama is reelected for a second term.
"Look dipstick."
Classy.
Romney/Ryan
I agree, many people will ignore this and other endorsements. Where we live the trend is and has always been that our papers are more Republican. We live in a city of mostly Republicans with our county seat next door - mostly Democrats. We can almost expect our local newspapers to give more space and attention to the Republicans - but who says politics is fair?
Independent Thought -
Since when is lying "classy"? Mitt Romney has refused to answer questions of the press while he and Paul Ryan continue these last days to lie and change every position they have ever held - why? They are so desperate at this point they will say and do anything to buy/win this election. No, they are not classy.
They probably BOUGHT OUT the newspaper. The only way they can get ANYTHING is by BUYING it or STEALING it.... INCLUDING the election.
MG:
With the press in Obama's back pocket, why would Romney/Ryan want to talk to them?
If you are being hounded by an ex-wife's attorney, who is looking for any piece of meat to knock you down, would you grant an interview. Think not.
Romney/Ryan 2012
Yours is the first reply bubble I came to - I apologize. Here goes: You Nazi Dixieland USTABEES get over yourselves. Romney is a BITCHpuppetCROOK that would cut the top of your head off in order to get to your gold fillings. He is as concerned about you and the welfare of your family as Bush was. And Female population? I don't have ovaries, nor does Romney, nor does Ryan, nor do the TeaParty, nor do the evangelists. YOU want control of YOUR body? TOUGH @!$%#! Just ask the previous parties I named. OR VOTE. 'Nuff Said. My name is Kevin Michael Shelton and I approve this message. And so do my children.
people like romney are why we are where we are. I cant believe this guy might actually win. what is wrong with you america! this guy is why there are no jobs he bankrupted them. he dont care about the small guys all he cares about is the rich douche bags. i like how we can ignore the fact that if you give him 50 grand he will tell you what he really thinks behind closed doors. the only ppl that i could see voting for him are prolly ignorant, rich, really naive, racist, full of hate, dont understand the meaning of seperation of church and state,"small buisness", birthers, ppl who dont know whats good for them, ppl who lock their doors in a bad part of town, watch fox news only, live on bullsh!t mountain, never have had much to do with the low end of society, didnt pay much attention in science and/or only care about themselves. I believe that about sums up the romney demographic. obama has never really been given a fair chance. first he was not american then he was muslim now they say he just sucks. wat ever he has walked such a straight line it aint even funny. if obama loses i dont think i would ever vote again, because this country is too narrow minded to handle politics. cant wait to read your right wing bullsh!t
Folks are finally waking up and realizing as to where this president has taken our country in the past 4 years.
We cannot accept his continued promises of needing more time to heal the Nation. He is a failure and has no plans for reducing the debt OR getting a budget passed. His agenda is to continue to add debt, accept 15% unemployment as the norm and strive to get in 400 rounds of golf in his next 4 years if he can persuade enough fools to reelect him for another term.
Funny, because your guy says he needs 8 to 10 yrs. so, the President, he inherited a disaster was supposed to get it all fixed in less than 4 yrs, but Romney, who would inherit an economy that is slowly moving upwards, ( not tanking ) needs 8 to 10?? Once again, the RW calling anyone who disagrees with them fools. The deficit has been reduced, the first act on Romney's agenda is repealing the health care act, which immediately increases the deficit. There is a budget, regardless of how many times you guys say there is not one. UE is not 15 percent and the President has golfed an average of twice a month. apparently only Republican Presidents are entitled to down time..bush and reagan had far more vacation time than Obama, but for some reason you RWingers object to Obama having any. Wonder why?
Sherry:
The ship is taking on water, and Obama has no pails. We need a leader willing to lead a nation, make strategic cuts, work collaboratively and focus on making our nation great again.
As far as down time, I have seen Obama on more television for entertainment purposes than press conferences. He will do wonderful on a speaking tour in 2013. I think it is truly a better career, all joking aside.
Romney/Ryan for all of us
IT: What water? You mean the global warming that is causing a late hurricane, don't you? That wasn't brought up in a debate, because every moderator is a conservative.
There is nothing that Romney will do to help the U.S.; he is out to help himself and outsource more of America. He is also out to humiliate women. There is nothing funny at all about Romney/Ryan.
2012 Obama for America.
Elizabeth
I think the democrat campaign over women is dispicable. I think it reduces women to only thinking about their reproductive rights and in a recent commercial equating good sex and voting for Obama.
Independent Thought:
"Look they're boarding the lifeboats now! Oh!, Look at Mitt Romney in the lifeboat wearing a dress!"
REALLY DB ? And it's ok that RETHUGLITARDS think of women as baby machines who should always be barefoot, pregnant, chained to the stove and totally submissive to their knuckle-dragging, abusive, misogynist , controlling husbands ? As second class citizens who should be seen and not heard and have no other aspirations in life than to be goddamned housewives ? SCREW YOU and the dinosaur you rode in on.... TROGLODYTE.
Trust me, DB is one of a minority in Akron. Akron and Ohio will vote for President Obama.
It isn't the Democrats who have been caught over and over again talking about women's reproductive rights, but the Republicans: "legitimate rape" "a woman can stop a pregnancy [sic]" and the blasphemy that I won't paraphrase which makes God an accessory to rape. All Republicans have signed on to the Ryan-Akins bill that humiliates women. These are not moderates, but wolves in sheep's clothing.
DB's reply is simply another insult to women. My body is not a side-issue to me.
Mr. Rogers, of blessed memory: "Everybody's fancy, everybody's fine; your body's fancy, and so is mine."
i'm sure you had the same outrage over the commercial when Pres. Reagan made a double entendre about voting then... double standards are the norm for you righties though...
What is really despicable is an amendment that would cause a woman's right to choose to be made by the government, while outlawing the most effective forms of birth control because they violate a christian tenet regarding life. What truly makes these Personhood Amendments despicable is that they violate the first amendment by projecting their religious beliefs onto everyone. No establishment of religion, and free exercise thereof. i don't force my beliefs onto you, do us the favor of not pushing your mythology into law.
You make it sound like this is insignificant as an issue, when to my wife and i this is the most invasive violation of our privacy to ever come into being, and no crying about an economy trying to right itself after years of the failed conservative lassiez faire trickle down voodoo economics is going to distract us from this issue.
All you hard core christians promoting Romney/Ryan should really take a deep self examination. Bearing false witness against your neighbor is a sin, and it is documented that everything you are all screaming about is a mistruth after a distortion after a fabrication. All lies. All sins. If a candidate is lying on the campaign trail, all of the sudden when they are in the white house we're going to get the truth? no, we'll get exactly what was in place during the 2001-2009 years, because it is all the same people behind the scenes with their new puppet.
Is President Obama perfect? nope, not by a long shot. But i know exactly where he stands and his platform is the correct way to move this country into the 21st century. Romney's plan is the exact same as McCain, Bush 43, Dole, Bush 41, and Reagan. Same five points, same bumper sticker slogans and trite sayings. We rejected that plan in 2008, and i can only hope that we do so again in 2012.
Wow! The business of America is business!!!!
Does the Des Moines Register not remember the disaster the Nixon Presidency turned out to be? Does the newspaper realize that the "gridlock" is the doing of Sen. Mitch McConnell and the GOP slackers whose only work was to see the fall of the Obama administration. Well, it is said that when you repeat the same mistakes and expect different outcomes, that is the working definition of insanity. I have never experienced such insanity in government by the GOP in all my years. There must be something bad in the water in Des Moines.
The wheels are starting to fall off of the Obama wagon. I voted for Obama in 08 and greatly regret it. Vote Romney/Ryan 2012!
Yep!! The Register sure knows how to spot the shanksters. There has not been another republican candidate for presiden in the last forty years that fits the mold of Tricky Dick Nixon, than Mitt Romney does.
If you were from Cleveland, you would know that Pres. Obama and Senator Sherrod Brown has helped the auto industry there, and also Kucinich helped the steel industry.
Re-elect Obama/Biden on November 6th !!!
During the downturn in 2008, financial advisors predicted it would take at least 5 years for the economy to start correcting itself. That was only 4 years ago. To fault Obama for not having magically remedied more quickly the deep fault lines which many bankers drove into the country's financial institutions is madness. Things are starting to turn around, and are doing so pretty much on schedule.
As for Romney, there are deep fault lines in his "solutions". For example, he says he will immediately okay the Keystone XL pipeline. Is he unaware that a whistleblower in Canada has succeeded in having the substandard practices of TransCanada Pipelines put under investigation by the Canadian government, which has confirmed that the company was failing to observe welding regulations? TransCanada's pathetic excuse was that many companies in that industry ignore the guidelines!
The United States should proceed with caution with this project. Any overhasty decision could result in an environmental disaster of mammoth proportions.
Des Moines Register: First the party and the man.
We can all but agree that nowhere in the past four years, did the right wing media, conservatives, all Republicans from the Senate, all Republicans from the House, all the Republican State Governors, indeed all of the Republican leadership councils from the right wing radio, television, and cable outlets, did not engage in name calling, derision, division, disparaging remarks of anything that should have been left unsaid.
This is a time when we should be celebrating, the highest moral standards set by all God fearing Republicans, to establish American as a decent, civil place to live, and have a country where all Americans can come together and do the heavy lifting needed to get the economy going, after all we have done so much good in the past four years.
But instead we have to ignore all those saintly concerns, and digress down the ugly path. Obama has only defended himself, in the time allotted and in a gracious manner, and I mean defended himself - all by himself - absent the voices of healing, the voices of cohorts, the voices of true Christian values, the voices of patriotic Americans yearning to be productive, caring Americans wishing to contribute, Americans willing to work but cut off at the knees, by the incessant bickering of the paid for advertising media wishing to collect their market share.
American are now so focused on Romnesia that they cannot remember their past, their past statements, their past remarks, or their accomplishments, or even if that had any accomplishments, as if caught by a stern religious parent, swearing, boys would have their mouths washed out with soap, as if caught by the school master smoking in the boys room, as if beaten by their grandmothers hair brush for stealing from the collection plate. If a child was possessed of bad behaviors defiantly projecting his every unexplained action, bevy of lies and department store tantrums to blame others you have Mitt Romney. The projection of Mitt Romney's refined and hidden insecurities on to his opponents, his insecurity is diagnosed as arrested child development. If he were ten years old and was abusing a class mate, he would have adult intervention, to blame both. But instead the adult sided with him. Mitt was always right, all the time and never once had his natural abusive tendency checked. Normal childhood development should have had him decked, bloody nosed and crying. The need to get along and compromise has never crossed his mind.
America has digressed to the point where the bullied, when fighting back, cannot be found blameless, while the bully has suddenly donned the halo of glowing innocence, and is seen to be spouting angelic wings where previously there were only devilish horns. Romney is ascending to Heaven and leaving those in his wake, to clean up the mess of being so ripe for so long in the ferment of material so vile that it can only be flushed.
Obama did not create this Republican Party's insolent campaign of perpetual insult, innuendo, snide debasing remarks; it would be fitting for Obama to finish against the war of angry vile and disgusting hatred. The Republican self-serving aggression of greedy excess rots the foundation of our country, if not all civilization, if not all of humanity. Wrong is wrong and some republican transgressions cannot be forgiven.
Kinda hard to read, but good job.
This is hard to read; I was caught off-guard at the double-negative at the beginning. But the last line is clear:
"Wrong is wrong and some republican transgressions cannot be forgiven."
Obama/Biden 2012
I love the sarcasm!!!!
Wow. This is the first time that the Register has endorsed a republican since the 70's. This is big - very big. Apparently Obama's past 4 years - which he doesn't like to talk about - is indefensible.
I really am getting tired of the lie that the President does not talk about his record. Now, granted, you actually have to listen to him, and not to just what the RW tell you he says. But if you actually listen to his words, you will hear him talking about the following: creating 5 million jobs in the last 3 yrs, taking us from negative 9 percent GDP growth to 2 percent, passing equal pay for women, repealing DADT, the auto industry, Bin Laden, ending 1 war. The President and his supporters talk regularly about all of these things. i don't care if you don't think they are good things, but please don't lie and say he doesn't talk about it.
negative 9 percent? where in the hell do you people come up with this stuff?? Oh, and by the way, Bin Laden was killed by Navy Seals who had orders long before Obama came in to office.
~~If you're not outraged by the direction of this country, you're just not paying attention~~
Sherry:
Listen to him? Holy Cow all he has done is speeches. Trust me we hear him loud and clear.
Romney/Ryan to walk the walk
President Obama has done many good things, and he does talk about them. And what he says is true.
Flip-flops and Lyin have said one thing and signed two pledges to do something else; heck, Lyin wrote the bill with Aching against women. They both signed the bill to never ever tax the rich. Romney outsourced, and still has the controlling stock to continue outsourcing jobs to China as of November 2012.
In what way are outsourced jobs good for America? I at least can trust the words of President Obama.

Bissonnette said he had mixed feelings about President Barack Obama, who ordered the operation.
"None of us were huge fans of Obama. We respected him as the commander-in-chief of the military and for giving us the green light on the mission," wrote the former SEAL, who was a 36-year-old chief petty officer when he left the Navy as a highly decorated commando in April.

Obama/Biden 2012
Des Moines Register: First the man and his plan.
Republicans Halting America for Four Years, now claim to want to change the Status Quo they created. Good Grief where have you been.
Where do we suppose this magnificent Romney 'real change' business plan has been hiding? Hiding for at least past four years? What business man could have had the strength to hide such a plan? Such a plan is it from some mythical land, locked in some vault? Is this plan from this planet? Romney has business plan for real change for the ages, then it should be simple for us to understand. So simple that I should already have outgrown its secret confinement? What force of nature would it be? Can it carried like the gopher wood encased arch of the covenant. Then it becomes unveiled, will we just humbled to our knees before the great man?
If this great holy Romney plan, a new testament of business, is all that you can worship, then why does Romney need to be President at all? Surely we will fall to the ground and prostrate ourselves, tear at our clothes, speak in tongues, when the Romney plan is first seen? The White House on his arrival will swept up to a bright white cloud and from on high down will the come a large white marble cathedral with singing choir. What need is there for this Romney this plan, and how is that it has been hidden for 5,500 years. The business plan should first be seen, burnt into stone tablets, and then when carries will make prosperity arise it its path. Such a plan it is, it should work without Romney.
Romney and the entire army of Republican disciples, conservatives and right wing holy ghosts, conspired to 2008 turn the economy against Obama to assist the non-Romney man John McCain.
As manipulated as the American Election Process is by the great bags of jingling coins. As ruinous as the estimate of the take down of the economy was in 2008 was. As obstinate as the great wall of Republican obstruction was from a dedicated and corrupt Congress.
The story, behind the story, masking the story, of the power of money to corrupt, has not been told. It is called the Status Quo.
A splendid as Romney's business plan is it has been absent for four long years. While America suffers Romney withholds his infinite wisdom to await the anointed throne, assuming divine intervention arrives late, Romney will crown himself. Romney has lead every Republican now alive while the whole of the Republican Senate and House stalled and halted in one place (Stats Quo) to vote 32 times for the same bill.
The core story was that 2008 was not going McCain's way, and Romney still had an iron in the fire. Just as J.P. Kennedy had just sold out of the '29 stock market, just before it tumbled into the abyss. In seeing Obama as the still to be determine winner, it was possible to stage a Stock Market Crisis coincident with well-known September date, but to influence the election blame and then to lay all the blame on a former SEC chairman's (BM) fraud scheme for a mere $64 billion Ponzi Scheme.
However in setting up this election scam, it was leaked to high level finance persons, who then set themselves for short term gain, following what was to be short a term dip. However the informal leak expanded to ensnare the larger brokerage houses (BS, LB). It was intended so sway the Election toward McCain, but to stop well short of a whole sale grotesque disaster of the 2008 crash, boom, and bang.
Well it did not work, Obama as elected and the big boys gather the whole country club together to create the bailout program lasting until to 0.01 seconds after Obama took office. Since this was against Obama's election, all the intrigue could reused, double down fashion against Obama first term in office.
Who would have had the most to lose second only to the American people, but Mitt Romney? Having ten years unemployed and dabbling in endless game against the tax code, Romney had enough idle times to plan the double gambit. Because of his age this game could not be delayed, just as Caesars could not find an heir to power, Caesar had to make an heir Augustus. To carry out the plan, everything has to follow the original scheme, doubling down and amplifying power.
This is to say to gather the private campaign donors together to assure party election success, to gather business leaders together to withhold business investment, to strip the working economy bare by cutting labor and cost to the starvation limit and to harvest as much as profit as possible while core businesses declined. In the meantime but the political word smiths together to redefine the dictionary of political charged words, to confuse and obfuscate communist, fascist rhetoric language into defensive neo-con constructs, and to finance and charge all of the divisive racially and religiously charged social issues, you could shake a stick at and to find a group supporting stick shakers as well. Then with a coalmine's worth of black dirt, and a tar pit full of black ooze, and pillow factory's stock of plucked chicken feathers, prepare the courage needed by Congress to plan and obstruct good government for now into four long years.
Well a Mitt (White House) Romney with sidekick Paul (Tonto) Ryan, riding in the home coming parade, on an oversized be tusked boar hog, would look like Knight in Shining Armor on Bright White Horse, thinking that the piglets would follow en masse with gender confusion. Soon the fat cats on Wall Street will be dancing with bells on their necks, while the mice figure where their next mean will coming from. Those country cubs will become castles drawbridge up and all.
This one appears to have mainlined the kool-aid and lobotomized itself.
Sure, it needs a re-read and typos removed, but it is about what happened. The Koch brothers and others like them (such as Romney) have so much money (how much money?), that they can afford to fire all their employees and outsource all the jobs and still be able to make enough of a profit to support their ten or twenty mansions each. American people will panic then, and the promise of more jobs might be able to extort the end of Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid so that a job, any job, might be had by those workers. And take away women's rights (because after all, women somehow survive in spite of dismal wages and benefits).
Romney is STILL taking away jobs. He could divest himself of Bain stock. He hasn't. That is the bottom line: the Republicans seek to destroy America.
how many times you have copied and pasted this....but I am sure you do have a valid point.
I don't subscribe so I'll just have to exercise my own judgment.
Hmmm. Yep, I'm voting Obama.
I encourage everyone to read the endorsement in its entirety. The newspaper basically is assuming that Mitt romney is the moderate he was when he was governor. They specifically tell him he should not focus on social issues, that he should not take us back with respect to womens issues, gays and lesbians, and that immigrants who are here working, paying taxes, having families and been law abiding citizens should get to stay here. Has Mitt Romney been moderate during this campaign other than the last 2 weeks? Would his party allow him to be a moderate? Grover said they don't need a President who thinks- they just need someone who signs the bills they give to him. With respect to their endorsement, they are endorsing a candidate who does not exist. i was disappointed.
No one has a problem with 'immigrants who are here working, paying taxes, having families, and abiding by the laws'. We do, however have a problem with illegal immigrants, who by virtue of being here ILLEGALLY, are not abiding by the laws.
~~If you're not outraged by the direction of this country, you're just not paying attention~~
It is the signed pledges to Grover Norquist never ever to raise taxes on the rich, and the signed pledge to support the Ryan-Akin bill to end abortions even in the case of rape or to save the life of a woman. Romney could flip-flop, but he won't go so far as to veto a bill written by fellow Republicans, especially his RUNNING MATE. Ryan might flip-flop, but in reality he wrote the bill, and he still stands by it.
Both of them might not "directly" do anything: the President and Vice President, after all, are not the lawmakers, that is the Legislature (the House and Senate). They might not actually decide a court case; that is, after all, up to the Supreme Court, and they WILL put new Justices in, because some of the Justices are very elderly. They WILL prosecute those laws: expect women and their doctors to be hauled into jail for trying to save their life. Expect those Supreme Court Justices to decide more cases such as "Citizens United" that says that a corporation is a person: right now the SC is deciding a case that will END free-enterprise! These are not just conservative Justices, but Justices that are pro-business at the expense of being able to have a yard sale for your used T.V. set. (If these Justices decide that free-enterprise is at an end, don't blame Obama, but Bush who appointed those Justices.)
Every issue that Romney/Ryan have become more moderate about has something lurking in the background that shows their real attitude. What about Medicare? The vouchers that Romney/Ryan propose are a much deeper cut than the negotiated lower fees. What about privatizing Social Security? The stock market cannot be trusted, and private fees are much higher with a much lower return: just think what has happened to the 401K in 1987 and in 2008. What about foreign policy? No matter what maps are drawn by Romney and Ryan, the maps that squeeze Christians were already in place years ago, long before Pres. Obama took office: look at old National Geographic articles on various cities such as Bethlehem. The dictatorships wouldn't last forever, which is why leaders were assassinated long before Pres. Obama took office, only to be replaced by new dictatorships, often funded by other political groups in the Middle East. Has anybody mentioned AT ALL what to do about the Pacific Ocean fish contamination caused by Fukushima? There are issues that a President will have to face that I have no confidence a business-only President would be capable of, especially since that business-only candidate only knew how to outsource jobs.
If you are not outraged by Romney you are kidding yourself and hurting everybody else.
Obama-Biden 2012
The Des Moines Register, might be forsale.?
Four more years of Obama will look just like the last four years of Obama.
There will be nothing but gridlock in Washington.
Business leaders won't expand and increase hiring. They are prepared to just ride him out.
The only thing that will grow is the size of our federal govt. and more national debt to pay for it.
Gridlock caused by Republicans blocking every vote won't be solved by Republicans that want to take away free-enterprise. The conservative Supreme Court is about to decide a case in favor of big business and against yard sales.
Blah blah blah KKK Republicans are all evil.
Wah! Wah! Republicans won't give Obama what he wants.
What the hell are you talking about? Just keep wishing and thinking really hard---
The newspaper was warned of the consequences of endorsing President Obama. Its 4th and 10 days, watch for republican Hail Marys.
BenghaziGate shows for certain what a morally bankrupt POS Obama is, as is his whole administration.
"'did your son always have balls the size of cue balls?'"
This is what idiot Biden said to Tyrone Woods father during Obama's photo op when the bodies arrived from Benghazi. Who would pick a moron like this to be vice-president? Only a POS would and a POS did.
It's not going away.

You do know Willard MYTH Romney is a yellow belly rat?
Condi Rice: topic started on 26-10-2012
Even former Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice broke with the majority of her party last night on Fox News, as she tried to hit the brakes on the right wing’s politicization of the recent attack in Libya.
Host Greta Van Susteren asked Rice directly and repeatedly about a set of emails uncovered by Reuters. In what has been dubbed “Benghazi-Gate,” the conservative media has jumped on the emails as definitive proof that the Obama administration has been lying about what it knew and when in the aftermath of the Sept. 11 attack on a diplomatic mission in Benghazi. Rice’s response was likely not what Van Susteren expected:
ICE: But when things are unfolding very, very quickly, it’s not always easy to know what is really going on on the ground. And to my mind, the really important questions here are about how information was collected. Did the various agencies really coordinate and share intelligence in the way that we had hoped, with the reforms that were made after 9/11?
Throughout the interview, Rice highlighted the difficulty that comes in a “fog of war” situation, with multiple stories coming in which need to be processed and verified. Her statements strongly align with the evolution of the Obama administration’s understanding of what happened in Benghazi. Rice also joined current Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in dismissing the big picture importance of the emails from the U.S. Embassy in Tripoli, as a small portion of the overall communication between the mission and the State Department.
So here you guys get to see a rational outlook of the situation from someone who isn't doing party cheer leading. She also knows what it is like to be in office when not knowing whether something is or isn't a terrorist attack or not.

Obama/Biden 2011
Once the Hurrican dies down - be prepared to have Obama blasted about Benghazi - The Obama Administration has mishandled the entire situation. Their policies are what caused these brave men to be killed in Benghazi - Their refusal to send in help resulted in their deaths - THe excuses they are giving are invalid and unbelievably poor. It would have been easy to save them but Obama is not a man wiling to put the US first and the people of the US ahead of the rest of the world. He wants to wait to see what is going on. That is an idiotic thing to do as you know damn well what was going on. Your embassy was under attack and taking Mortar Fire. You hand al Al Qaeda group taking responsibility for the attack while the attack was still under way- not the next day or two days later but during the attack. Still they did nothing and they had 7 hours to react - Still they did nothing. After the dust cleared, they knew the screwed up so they blamed the entire thing on the Internet video - A Video no one had heard of nor cared about. Their blaming the attack on this video, however, spawned other protest around the world = YEa the Administration much be thinking - they are buying our LIES and look at the media following out lead. PATHETIC SAID and CRIMINAL. The continue the lie and only when it became obvious that the attack was terrorist to the rest of the world have the following caved in on the BS story. If you recall the Libya Govt called it a planned terror attack from Day 1 the US State Dept denied that along with the WH.
The father of the Slain Seal in the attack - who by the way is a former Judge is going to bring the story to the fore-front before the election - no matter how much CNN and MSNBC wants to bury the story until after the election. He is not going to allow that to happen as it tired of the Administration's Cr@p and is going public with the entire story this week. He is the perfect person to tell the story to the world as the Administration dare not bash him as they would normally do. Which is the standard reaction - attack the one talking not the facts. Ignore the facts - and get the mainstream media to ignore it as well. That is just not going to work this time - Wait for it - because it is coming.... and it is going the be huge..
Is that the same slain SEAL family that told Romney to stop using their dead son for political gain?
Also the same woman,Pat Smith is her name, who called Obama,Biden,Hillary and Panetta LIARS!
Charles3ct: 4 dead in Benzhazi, 160,000 dead and a trillion dollars wasted in Iraq. Did you protest then? Did you write letters? Did you stand with signs? or are you a complete and utter H Y P O C R I T E?
This President came into office with the deck stacked against him worse than any since FDR in 1932; in fact, the economic situations they were faced with were similar. Both were saddled with a colossal failure of confidence in the system, resulting from Republican policies that encouraged reckless gambling with other people's money, the result of almost no meaningful regulation at all.
The relevant difference is that right from the beginning, the opposition party was determined to stymie any and all efforts by this Administration to stop the hemmorhaging and stabilize the economy. All of the members of Congress who opposed President Obama were/are rich enough that the suffering of working families did not affect them directly at all, so if the economy continued to collapse, so much the better for them.
On the night of President Obama's inauguration, 19 Republican members of Congress, including their VP nominee, Paul Ryan, met and pledged to oppose this President at all times, no matter what the cost in agony to the nation. They have never bothered to deny that this was their intention. Let that sink in for a moment- these men were perfectly content to see Americans losing their jobs, their homes, their life savings or their hope of a good education, if it meant damaging one man- President Obama.
It is both sickening and laughable to hear the traitorous, pitiless Republican Party solemnly intone that it was nothing to do with race, and then claim that the Democrats are "the real racists." Please. The Republican majority that took control of both houses in 1994 managed to pass some very important and far-reaching legislation with Democratic and white President Bill Clinton, even with the unstable and megalomaniacal Newt Gingrich in charge. Thet have tried to block every single measure that this President has attempted to enact for the good of the country, and then they accuse him of being "divisive."
For the Republicans to claim that it's nothing to do with race is like claiming that our relationship with Cuba has nothing to do with Fidel Castro. It is laughable on its face- except the millions who could have been working all this time, if not for the unyielding obstructionism of the G.O.P., aren't laughing at all. It's just sad that so many of them have either been hoodwinked by the right-wing propaganda machine or could never bring themselves to vote for a black man under any circumstances.
What do you say to these charges, Republican voters? Even Paul Ryan has never bothered to deny that they planned right from the start to make this President fail at any cost. How can you possibly support men who put party before country? Have you, at long last, no decency?
Very well written!!!
You don't mention what great foresight they had. I say they should have impeached the POS. It would have saved the country a good dea of pain.
BenghaziGate will get him when he's gone. good riddance.
Daniel Streibig:
I ask again, sir: Are you proud of your party? Can you, in any way at all, defend or excuse their actions? Do you think that the Republican Party had the correct priorities, both in 2008 and in 2010? Answer my questions, if you can; no more counterattacking or deflecting. Be a man.
God knows why these Republicans want to re-elect Bush, i.e. Romney. Same policies, same people. Did you REALLY think Bush did a great job and you want him back?
As a born and raised Iowan...I want to stress that NOT ALL Iowans endorse Romney. In fact, for the record, the Des Moines Register has made some stupid decisions the past year (i.e. making people subscribe to their website in order to read the news plus have annoying ads on their website which should pay for the website..not the people reading the news...and now this!!) I hope they realize that they WILL lose subscribers for sure...if it weren't for the Sunday coupons, I wouldn't get a Sunday paper either!!
Of course not. Libtards/turds don't read.
Obamasucksonit...Oh, yes we do. We read everything we can get our hands on and then we make our decisions. Unlike the TP/Conservative/Republicans who do not read at all and only talk points that their leader (Grover Norquist) tells them to say.
Little boy, it is time you went to bed.
TooOld......................You are either too old or too libtard to have any sense. We understand.
Because the owner is a Mormon, so that makes perfect sense. However, that has nothing to do with anyone seeing the light.
Actually, its pathetic that a woman would do this, but then she comes from the Romney kind of society. She has no fears or concerns about her womanhood. She can do whatever she pleases. And her salary isn't dependent on anyone else.
Go back under your rock where you belong.
