GOP pounces on Biden flub in Virginia

Vice President Joe Biden earned ridicule from foes Saturday when he twice referred to the Democratic Virginia Senate candidate by the wrong first name.

Biden began his remarks to an enthusiastic crowd of about 1,500 at the Lynchburg Armory by praising former Gov. Tim Kaine with the correct name but later declared two times that he is "a big Tom Kaine fan."

Kaine is running against Republican George Allen for the seat vacated by Democrat Sen. Jim Webb, who is retiring.

The vice president went on to offer similar compliments for ex-Rep. Tom Perriello, whose first name is Tom.

A Mitt Romney campaign spokesman immediately highlighted the error.

“Vice President Biden forgot the name of his own Virginia Democratic Senate nominee and he wants voters to forget about President Obama’s failed economic policies and lack of a real agenda for a second term," Ryan Williams wrote in a campaign statement.

In Lynchburg, Biden also accused Republicans of hoping for lapses of memory.

"They're counting on the American people to have an overwhelming case of amnesia on November the 6th," he said.

Obama campaign spokesperson Lis Smith also responded.

"Once again, Mitt Romney’s campaign is showing their focus on the big things — like one letter in Tim Kaine's name," Smith said. "If they put as much time and effort into their policies, maybe we'd finally have an answer for how they'd pay for $5 trillion in tax cuts weighted to the very wealthy."

Kaine, the victim of the flub, responded in a tongue-in-cheeck tweet later Saturday.

"Thanks to the VPOTUS for the shout out today. I love Jay Biden!" he joshed via Twitter.

That is minor compared to the horrible comment Biden made to the father of Tyrone Wood after Wood gave his life for our country. Biden should be muzzled. The thought he is one step away from being president is very scary. Seriously of concern. The man is clueless when it comes to class, tact, humanity, thoughtfulness and his big mouth.

Biden had an "I" instead of an "O" in Kaines name.............oh boy, eh?

Let's remember the only "O" on 11/6 that matters will be the "O" in O-H-I-O....the "O" that seals the election for Obama...

Enjoy GOP!

Bob lets see your polls so we can tell if you are just bull@!$%#ting like your side does daily or have some facts. Oh and by the way, one polls does not mean a thing, show us at least three that show that Obama is going down in any swings state besides NC ad Florida over the past week.

While you search frantically across the Internet for said non-existent polls take a trip over to the 538 blog to see a real, non-biased, statistical analysis of Romney's chances. Spoiler alert, they are in the crapper (26% chance for a Romney win).

Now Bob, are you kidding me? Romney's averaged lead in NC, FL, and VA, the ONLY toss-up states where he leads, has fallen for three straight days. Check Real Clear Politics.

...and in CO Romney's lead has completely disappeared. CO is now a tie.

Rasmussen was the ONLY poll that got it right in 2008. The Times polls are skewed. So is the Times, that's why its going out of business.

    #35.4 - Sat Oct 27, 2012 7:53 PM EDT

Uh oh, Bob, according to Real Clear Politics late this afternoon, Romney's once large lead in VA has plummeted to that of a tie. Now what were you saying about Obama losing swing states?

    Want The Truth,

Real Clear is NOT a New York Times poll, it is an AVERAGING firm of ALL polls.

    Want,

Rasmussen's 2008 state polls were a mess. They have several swing states that were solid McCain pick ups by their numbers that went to Obama. Ras does much better on the national poll than they do the state ones. Unfortunately for them the national polls does mean jack, it is just a popularity contest.

The biggest gaffe is that Biden is in Virginia at all.

Done deal: Virginia will give its electoral votes to Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan.

Send Uncle Joe to Las Vegas, since Nevada is a swing state Obama might actually win.

        Tammy,

not everyone is so obsessed with Libya. Most normal people realize that @!$%# happens and that the situation over there is no always clear. Personally while the deaths were tragic it is not enough, even if there were a conspiracy as you so claim, to move me on my positions. In the end four Americans cannot outweigh what is for the good of the country and a movement away from rampant individualism and staying away from Laissez-Faire economics, as well as removing religious overtures from our Government is the right direction.

I wonder if the Romney campaign sees something in the Va numbers that concerns them. Because considering the air of inevitablility they're trying to project, it's a little confusing why they would jump on a 70 year old man mixing up Tim and Tom. I've accidently called him Tom Kaine too and I'm 35. Strange campaign decision. Dont we have better issues to be debating?

I call my kids the wrong name half the time...that is supposed to be huge? Mr. Romney called a whole country the wrong name and not much was made of it http://www.dailykos.com/story/2012/07/26/1114012/-Oops-Mitt-Calls-Country-He-s-Visiting-by-the-Wrong-Name

At this point they all are tired and have no clue who they are talking to..lol. Now if you have had a security guy who is close to you for ten years and don't know his name, that is a problem and says you aren't connected to people. If you forget which guy is Tom or Tim and you don't know them well or at all after several campaign stops, that means you are tired and human. We've seen Mr. Romney introduce Mr. Ryan as the next President http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/ticket/romney-ryan-next-president-united-states-134334441.html too...it happens. I think that slip probably means more than calling someone you don't know well a name one letter off, but we all are human.

That would leave Joe Biden as president. There isn't anyone in politicis less capable of being president than Biden. That should give us nightmares.

Obama wouldn't have the sense to resign if he manages to get himself re-elected. Heck, Obama could be serving time in prison and he would still claim he was president.

              Eric,

I'm puzzled about your mention of Romney's taking advantage of the "tax holiday". You do realize that the tax holiday was a reduction in the Social Security deductions from a salary, right? That's a pretty basic item to have a grasp of.

Romney's income is from bonds, capital gains and dividends from stock, etc. There's no FICA deductions there.

I appreciate the fact that you have a different point of view, and you're entitled to it ... but being so off base on that fact undermines your credibility

All of us would be better served by examing issues and asking questions. Repeating orthodoxy is not thought, just parroting political positions.

I'm sure Romney has flipped on issues. I'm also positive Obama has as well. While serving in the Senate, he said that raising the debt limit was not a good idea. Politicians change or "evolve" positions. So do most people.

I voted for Obama in 2008 ... for all the wrong reasons. To say that everyone in America can achieve anything they put their mind to ... and I voted for him because he was black (or mixed race would be more accurate I guess). I'm white. I have since retired and have had more time to read, research, "vet" etc.

He's a Marxist. I'm not. His father was a Marxist, his mentor in Hawaii (Frank Marshall Davis) was a Marxist, he was a Marxist in college, Valerie Jarrett's father in law was Marxist, his "green jobs"czar Van Jones was or is Marxist (not sure if he claims to be one now), Ezra Klein (former head of SEIU), the most frequent visitor to the White House has been quoted as saying "capitalism has been relegated to the ash heap of history."

If you're against capitalism, fine, welcome to the Democrat party.

They then count on their surrogates --- like the guys at the end of the parade with the big shovels poop scoopers and poop bags --- to follow up and tell what they REALLY meant to say.
