Subscribe to RSSVice President Joe Biden earned ridicule from foes Saturday when he twice referred to the Democratic Virginia Senate candidate by the wrong first name.
Biden began his remarks to an enthusiastic crowd of about 1,500 at the Lynchburg Armory by praising former Gov. Tim Kaine with the correct name but later declared two times that he is "a big Tom Kaine fan."
Kaine is running against Republican George Allen for the seat vacated by Democrat Sen. Jim Webb, who is retiring.
The vice president went on to offer similar compliments for ex-Rep. Tom Perriello, whose first name is Tom.
A Mitt Romney campaign spokesman immediately highlighted the error.
“Vice President Biden forgot the name of his own Virginia Democratic Senate nominee and he wants voters to forget about President Obama’s failed economic policies and lack of a real agenda for a second term," Ryan Williams wrote in a campaign statement.
In Lynchburg, Biden also accused Republicans of hoping for lapses of memory.
"They're counting on the American people to have an overwhelming case of amnesia on November the 6th," he said.
Obama campaign spokesperson Lis Smith also responded.
"Once again, Mitt Romney’s campaign is showing their focus on the big things — like one letter in Tim Kaine's name," Smith said. "If they put as much time and effort into their policies, maybe we'd finally have an answer for how they'd pay for $5 trillion in tax cuts weighted to the very wealthy."
Kaine, the victim of the flub, responded in a tongue-in-cheeck tweet later Saturday.
"Thanks to the VPOTUS for the shout out today. I love Jay Biden!" he joshed via Twitter.

Want to wager about Ohio? Romney is gaining everyday and I see a 48 to 47 Romney win on November 6th sealing the Presidency for Romney. Florida, Virginia, NC. and Wisconsin will also end up in the Romeny cloumn.

The momentum for Romney is going strong. Obama has no record to run on and his handling of Libya will be the final nail. A simple "we are investigating and will let you know as soon as we know" statement would have been great. But, to have your team of Carney, Rice and Clinton lie and immediately rush to judgment and say it was about a video was just stupid. They created the media nightmare mess, but at least since they have NBC and CNN in their back pocket, it has been swept under the rug for the most part. This is why I suggest we all boycott NBC news and all NBC broadcasts for the next 6 months. They need to learn fair journalism the hard way.
I once introduced my then boyfriend, now husband, as Tim yet his name is Tom. He still mentions it at least once or twice a year, about 15 years later. If I could do that about someone I loved, then I forgive Joe for a lapse on the campaign trail. BTW - I could easily lose count on how many people get my first name wrong per month. It is quite simple, but I seem to get called many variations somehow. I don't consider it anything but sometimes amusing.

People also need to know that there is a Tom Kean (also pronounced as Kaine) who was New Jersey's governor 1982-1990 and his son Tom Kean, Jr. who is currently a NJ state senator, both Biden's contemporary. Is it that unthinkable to make that mistake?

He's probably in a pretty good position to know we don't want those clowns back but it was amusing watching Romney congratulate the president for doing all the right things in Libya, Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan and last but not least Iran. I also noticed that he thought the president handled the auto bailout well and wanted to jump on board but I can only imagine what he would be saying if that hadn't worked out. Wait, I know exactly what he would have said and it would be the exact opposite of what he's saying now and that in a nutshell is why that guy doesn't deserve the job.
I normally dont read american news but was following the storm on your east coast when I came on this article. Is your political stories this bad someone calls a guy Tom instead of Tim so what if this story got ran in my country they would be the laughing stock of the whole country. I'll take a candidate any day who confuses an "o" for an "i" in a name versus a candidate who bases their entire campaign on a promise of $5 trillion in additional tax cuts (deficit increase) and cannot in one or two sentences explain how he's going to pay for it. As Lewis Black says, "if you can't name in one or two sentences what it is you are going to do, then it is illegal!!"

If this is the best the republicans can do and they are relying on Joe Biden's misnomers to win this election after he has been campaigning for the last 48 hours straight, they are in deep trouble. Just compare Joe Biden's momentary lapses with the garbage and outright lies that come out of Mitt Romney's mouth on a nonstop basis and then you start to to realize how pathetic the Romney/Ryan campaign is. Even most republicans are admitting that they will have to hold their noses if and when they vote for Romney. What a ringing endorsement! Have we really set the bar that low?

Joe Biden is and has represented all of the middle class in this country since he was elected in congress.He is a down to earth politician that does not have an axe to grind with religion,women,or the working public.This man is one of the truly honest people in politics.Yes he makes verbal mistakes,but I challenge anyone that says they have never misspoke.He speaks from his heart many times which leads to making small verbal errors,but at least he is from the middle class and will stand for the little guy.He has been a strong supporter of getting this country out of the stupid wars we are now involved in.That alone makes him my choice as the right man for any job including being the POTUS .We do have a choice this election and if you want continuing wars,poverty and the wealthiest people in the country to represent us then you need to vote for two people that have lied to you for the past several months.
I think we should all forget about the small things that ALL HUMANS do as far as a missed words or letter, let's remember that governor "Etch A Sketchy" has changed his WHOLE platform multiple times during campaign and lets not forget the bain capital company in Freeport, Illinois (look it up) that shipped ALL its jobs to CHINA, which Romnesia STILL receives money from, like 8 million...how about we remember him taking away women's right to make their OWN decision about child birth and having decent medical to cover them and their babies. I'm a person that is TERRIBLE with names. All my life, even at important times. Bad with names. And we all know Biden has a tendency to speak before thinking or whatever... he puts his foot in his mouth with regularity. But, I see this as a far smaller "flaw" than continuing to support candidates that believe rape is an Act of God or God's Will ( I have to wonder, if someone had raped that candidate's wife or daughter, if he would feel the same. And if it's an Act of God, how you could punish the rapist, who was only doing God's Will?) as Romney feels its important to do. He would rather have a Senate and Congress filled with neanderthals, including on the Science Committee, than ANY Democrat! To me, this equates with some of the racist, bigoted people I have met that would rather have the worst white trash working for them than ANY black person! Color over qualities, and political leaning over intelligence and compassion. Make fun of Biden, I understand. But what Romney is doing is far more of a flaw than saying the wrong name!

Joe Biden is a disgrace to the office of the Vice Presidency. His "little name gaffe's" are nothing compared to the despicable comment he made to Mr. Woods, (Navy Seal Wood's Father), while they were removing his son's casket from the plane. This piece of human garbage, (Biden), actually had the guts to come up to Mr. Woods and say, "So, did your son always have balls the size of Q-balls?" What kind of insensitive creep does such a thing at a time like that? Mr. Woods showed great composure and class, because frankly Joe Biden would have been picking those capped teeth out of the back of his throat if it was my son. I would have gladly rearranged his face right there and then and HIS Q-balls would have been kicked into the next county.

Sorry, Jim, but your assertion that FOX doesn't report real news is way off base. FOX broke the stories on the Obama administration having real-time knowledge of the Benghazi attack - a story supported by evidence, not speculation (speculation and bias being NBC's specialty).
Interesting that NBC didn't publish Biden's truly insensitive remark to Tyrone Woods' father (father of the NAVY SEAL who gave his life defending Americans in Benghazi when this administration ignored real-time requests for help).
Biden inappropriately asked Mr. Woods (when his son's coffin was arriving back in the USA) if his son had always had balls the size of cue balls.
That pretty much says it all re: Joe Biden. He's a fool, who didn't even have the sensitivity to handle a very tragic moment with dignity and grace. Mr. Woods was appalled, and rightly so.
Biden and Obama need to go, as does Hillary Clinton. All of them need to be held accountable for the deaths of Americans in Benghazi, as the admin. had prior requests for security, real-time requests for help as the attack was unfolding, and certain knowledge that it had nothing to do with a stupid video. I wonder how they can stand themselves.
Instead of covering this real news, NBC has completely ignored the subject, as they won't hold Obama accountable for anything. American lives were lost because of this administration's indifference. NO American should support anyone who doesn't make protecting Americans a priority.
