Obama rallies Iowans at outset of swing-state tour

President Obama touted his record at a campaign event in Davenport, Iowa, telling supporters he's kept the commitments he's made and still "has the same values, cares about the same people."

Updated 4:32 p.m. - DAVENPORT, IA -- President Barack Obama kicked off a swing state barnstorm with a rally Wednesday in Davenport, Iowa – the state he credits with giving his 2008 campaign its first big boost.

President Barack Obama arrives on stage for a campaign event October 24, 2012 at Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds in Davenport, Iowa.

“This is the first stop on our 48-hour fly-around campaign marathon extravaganza,” Obama told a crowd of 3,500 at the Mississippi River fairgrounds.

“We're going to pull an all-nighter -- no sleep. We're starting here in Iowa; we're going to Colorado, then we're going to go Nevada, then we're going to Florida, Virginia, Ohio. I am going to stop in Chicago to vote,” he said, urging the crowd to vote early in Iowa, as he will in his hometown.

Obama also continued to hit a theme of “who can you trust more,” saying that, unlike Romney, Obama’s positions on issues over the past decade have been consistent.

“You could take a videotape of things I've said 10 years ago, 12 years ago and you'd say, man, this is the same guy, has the same values, cares about the same people - doesn't forget where he came from. Knows who he's fighting for,” he said.

The Romney campaign responded to the president's event with a  statement from campaign spokesman Ryan Williams: "President Obama proved once again today that his campaign is getting smaller and smaller as Election Day approaches. Another four years of President Obama’s policies will mean lower incomes, higher taxes, and more debt. A glossy brochure full of the same policies that haven’t worked over the last four years is no substitute for a real agenda that will help grow the middle class and restore America’s strength. In two weeks, Americans will choose Governor Romney's positive agenda over President Obama's increasingly desperate attacks.”

After the rally in Davenport, the president was headed to Denver, CO for another campaign event.

2012 - The Baroke O-conomy Legacy...

Three years after President Obama said the recession technically ended, middle class Americans are still feeling the economic pinch, with most saying they have been forced to reduce spending in the past year.

American families are now more likely to say their children's economic future will be the same or worse than their own.

Since 2009, the median income for America's middle class has fallen from $72,956 to $69,487.

It was the Republians who pushed the idea that everyone had the RIGHT to own a home. It was the Republicans who promised to back loans that should have never been made, including illegals.

The President's economics plan for the next years is an example of impossible economics like the promises that he made during his first 4 years. His plan is another fantasy.

          • Barack...hiding his agenda for second term to save votes...Iowa?

President Obama is putting off major environmental regulations until after the November elections in order to avoid the political blowback of the economic damage those regulations will cause, according to a new Senate report.

Environmental regulators in the Obama administration “don’t want this economic pain to hit American families just before the election because it would cost President Obama votes,” states the report, released by Environment and Public Works on Thursday, “so they have simply decided to punt, intending to move full speed ahead if they gain a second term.”

The regulations will have a drastic negative impact on jobs and agriculture families and businesses in states like Iowa, Ohio and Oklahoma.

You mean the bailout Obama did that the American taxpayers are on the hook for, but the unions come out smelling like a rose? You think that just because the unions put a moratorium on benefits they won't come back this next year and ask for more? This bailout was awful for America.

I think the media is taking it a little too lightly on Obama with his recent debate performance.

They are quoted as saying Obama "was trying to pick a fight", "was snarky",...but truth be told Obama was being a bully. Making up works by creating a word from Romney's last name with Romnesia...is something children do to bully classmates...messing with their last names at their expense. Trying to start a fight- duh, that's what bullies do. try to ridicule with his "horses and bayonets" line trying to embarrass/humiliate Romney..is again what bullies do.

With all the attention on Rachel's Challenge...is the media not going to call Obama out for his actions? Our commander in chief, was/is a classic bully. Something that classrooms and corporations are trying to remove. Then our President goes on a national stage..mocks, name calls, ridicules his opponent?? This is being childish or snarky. Obama was being a bully. Same thing he tried with deficit cieling negotiations- and failed. He blamed Reps at the time..but clearly he was trying to bully them into greater concessions.

This is a great time to address Obama and his bullying, as this occurred on a national stage and this is a huge topic in schools right now. Let's stop calling it snarky...and call this what it was- bullying and ask Obama to reform and turn this into a teachable moment.

Murdock, Akin and Ryan will be writing the legislation defining legitimate rape for women. Murdock wants to include God's will in the legislation which willbe something like if you get pregnant from a rape it is God's will and it is God's will that you gaive birth to the child of the rapist.

Betting parlours and the Best poll site 538 blog have it at a 70/30 change of Obama being re elected. We only have 13 more days. Tell you what- your side wins I shut up. We win you shut up- fair enough. But till then I will continue to tell it as I see it.

The plant in Freeport, Ill., which is already scheduled to close at the end of the year, has become an embarrassing campaign issue for GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney. The factory's 170 jobs are being relocated to China. Activists and workers have called on Romney to use his influence with Bain to halt the offshoring.

President Obama's Taxpayer-Backed Green Energy Failures

It is no secret that President Obama's and green-energy supporters' (from both parties) foray into venture capitalism has not gone well. But the extent of its failure has been largely ignored by the press. Sure, single instances garner attention as they happen, but they ignore past failures in order to make it seem like a rare case.

The truth is that the problem is widespread. The government's picking winners and losers in the energy market has cost taxpayers billions of dollars, and the rate of failure, cronyism, and corruption at the companies receiving the subsidies is substantial. The fact that some companies are not under financial duress does not make the policy a success. It simply means that our taxpayer dollars subsidized companies that would've found the financial support in the private market.

So far, 34 companies that were offered federal support from taxpayers are faltering — either having gone bankrupt or laying off workers or heading for bankruptcy. This list includes only those companies that received federal money from the Obama Administration's Department of Energy and other agencies. The amount of money indicated does not reflect how much was actually received or spent but how much was offered. The amount also does not include other state, local, and federal tax credits and subsidies, which push the amount of money these companies have received from taxpayers even higher.

The complete list of faltering or bankrupt green-energy companies:
                        1.Evergreen Solar ($25 million)*
                        2.SpectraWatt ($500,000)*

The problem begins with the issue of government picking winners and losers in the first place. Venture capitalist firms exist for this very reason, and they choose what to invest in by looking at companies' business models and deciding if they are worthy. When the government plays venture capitalist, it tends to reward companies that are connected to the policymakers themselves or because it sounds nice to "invest" in green energy.

The 2009 stimulus set aside $80 billion to subsidize politically preferred energy projects. Since that time, 1,900 investigations have been opened to look into stimulus waste, fraud, and abuse (although not all are linked to the green-energy funds), and nearly 600 convictions have been made. Of that $80 billion in clean energy loans, grants, and tax credits, at least 10 percent has gone to companies that have since either gone bankrupt or are circling the drain.

                        CORRECTION:

Figures for four companies have been updated: Beacon Power received $43 million from the U.S. government, not $69 million as originally reported. Azure Dynamics received $5.4 million from the federal government, not $120 million as originally reported. Compact Power Inc. received $151 million as part of the stimulus, not $150 million as originally reported. Willard and Kelsey Solar Group received $700,981 in government funding, not $6 million as originally reported.

The following companies have been removed from the original list: AES's subsidiary Eastern Energy, LSP Energy and Uni-Solar did not receive government-backed loans, based on additional research. The National Renewable Energy Lab did received $200 million in stimulus funding, but it is a government laboratory.

I can vote for him and do it proudly. I would like to have a country that cares about its people. Not what the right wing nut jobs think is good. You want to eliminate women's rights to any and everything. you want to eliminate the rights of the monoritys. I don't understand how people can be so hateful and uncaring. Care for each other and understand there are less fortunate than you or I through no fault of their own.

If I were Obama I'd park it the next two weeks in OH, WI, IA, and NV. Today Obama plus 5 and plus 3 two OH polls. Romney is screwed. Obama plus 4 NV.

many are taking Nevada off the toss up list and placing it on lean Obama(same with NC goes to Romney) All Obama needs is Ohio plus any one of the other toss ups and its over.

The Repugs are claiming momentum as does every loser till just before the final out. The betting parlours have it 70% Obama win 30% Romney.

I have to get outta here but just wanted one final shot. The right wing believes in some illusion that democracy was created in one fell swoop in 1776. At that time only white males who owned property had the vote. It has been a struggle to expand the idea of freedom and equality to all. The fight continues and will always continue because power corrupts and those with power .........

The plutocrats and the haves and have nots are as old as mankind. Look at the candidates, think what they stand for. The truth is self evident

For months now I have been reading the comments that are posted on many articles regarding this Presidential race and I have to say..it is so very troubling....the hate, the dishonesty, the character assaults....people are so easily blinded and I guess the media has a lot to do with it.. journalism used to be an objective honorable profession...you reported the facts (who what where, and yes why) opinions were left to the editorial and Opinion columns...but no more... we have been misguided and led down a path of division....here's what I know....no one was going to pull us out of this recession in 4 years....many of the jobs Americans had that paid well are GONE...and why...globalization and technology and yes greed....and if America is ever going to shine once again, it needs to get its house in order...that means elected officials who will actually work to do something...filabusters are not governing...and I am not sure how many of these people ever got elected...to have Senators sitting on the Science and Technology Committee who believe the earth was literally created in 6 days, that women who are "legimately raped" can control whether they get pregnant or not....that there is no global climate change....that these are the people that are making decision on the science and technology front for America?? It's obscene...and all the while our schools are turning to crap, our roads and bridges are falling down, and our TVS are set to Honey Boo Boo and Jersey Shore.......we think that by cutting all government out of our lives we will be better? Instead of religious tolerance, respecting and helping those who are sick, disabled or down on their luck, spending time with our families and our friends, working hard, sacrificing for the greater good...we are instead looking to blame...I lost my job, my savings and my retirement in 2009...as did my self employed husband...but we found new jobs..new ways of getting by...and I harbor no ill will...Obama is an honorable man...he has done quite a bit to help this country and when he says something I believe him...because he is our President...and he has earned my trust...and he will get my vote this year...because Romney and Ryan do not represent my best interest...the average middle class family makes $50,000 a year...when Romney demonizies 47% of Americans behind closed doors talking to people who were paying $50,000 for ONE MEAL..you have to wonder...My dad once told me the easiest way to control people was to make them ignorant...educate yourselves people....47% of Americans are not moochers...women should have the right to choose...because it's a choice no one else should ever make for them...abortion should be safe, legal and RARE... and lest forget we are suppose to be one NATION not one CORPORATION..in the end we will get what we give.....

Hey, let's try this! the next time there is an attack against Americans anywhere on the world, let's have the entire CIA and the entire intelligence community post everything they know on Facebook and on network news right away. While it is happening. The average American knows what to do much better than the State Department or the CIA or the CIC or the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Of COURSE there was a blackout of information until the US intel community knew what happened.!!!! For crying out loud, the US Embassy's neighbors in Benghazi did not even know what was happening, or why. But Romney and his merry band decided right away that they had a better handle on things.

God save us from that idiot being CIC.

If classification were really a problem the President should have said nothing about what was going on. But he and his administration chose to lie to the American people for 14 days. The big question is, what are they still not telling us that we should know?

The President wants people to vote early so they do not have time to read and evaluate his economic plan for the next 4 years.

The Obama campaign has finally, the day after the debates, come up with the President's economic plan for the next 4 years. The plan is devoid of detail and budgetary information but is full of wishful thinking. Obamanomics is really impossiblenomics. This is one of the parts that I like the best"

Do some nation-building here at home: We’ll use half the savings from ending the war in Afghanistan to help pay down our debt and invest the rest in fixing our roads, runways, bridges, and schools.
End overseas wars and rebuild our economy. After responsibly ending overseas operations, the President will reinvest in our country by:

                                      • Committing half of the money saved from responsibly ending overseas operations in Iraq and Afghanistan to reducing the deficit and the other half to investing in public infrastructure.
                                      • Investing an additional $210 billion over six years to support a million jobs improving America’s roads, bridges, transit systems, railways, aviation systems and runways, and putting construction workers back to work.

Four years ago, without conditions of any kind to include any act of congress, the President promised that the 2012 federal deficit would not exceed 229.27 billion dollars yet in fact it exceeded 1.1 trillion dollars. That says a lot for the President's fiscal planning and sense of budget. For the past 4 years the President has been proposing a tax increase on the "rich" that congress has yet to pass. This increase in taxes would at most divert 100 billion dollars per year from the private sector to the public sector. The federal government has been trying to spark the economy by injecting more money. This move will have the opposite effect and will do little to solve our debt problem. so using 2012 figures the federal government will still have a trillion dollar debt to deal with.

According to the President's nomination acceptance speech, the troops will be coming home in 2014 so by 2015 the peace dividend will be in full effect. According to the President's plan, he is expecting to net more than 2 trillion dollars per year by bringing the troops home. It will take at least 1 trillion dollars to balance the budget and of course that has to be done before we can start running a surplus. Balancing the budget is done with just half of the peace dividend. That is why the peace dividend will have to be greater than 2 trillion dollars per year. So the President is claiming that we are spending more than two trillion dollars per year on the war on Afghanistan which is less than true. If the federal government cut out all defense spending that then cut the rest of the budget in half it would not generate the required savings. The President's plan is fantasy economics. The President's plan is mathematically impossible. It is the President who needs more math education.
