Indiana Republican Senate candidate Richard Mourdock said Wednesday that his controversial comments regarding conception following rape are being taken out of context. At a Tuesday night debate versus Democratic opponent Joe Donnelly, he said that when women become pregnant after being raped, “that’s something God intended.”
The Indiana state treasurer said Tuesday in response to a question about abortion rights: "I struggled with it myself for a long time, but I came to realize that life is that gift from God and I think even when life begins in that horrible situation of rape that it is something God intended to happen."
Mourdock, a favorite of Tea Party supporters, said Wednesday that his comments were inelegantly stated, and subsequently mischaracterized by Democrats.
"I am a much more humble person this morning. Because so many people mistook, twisted, came to misunderstand the points that I was trying to make," he said at a press conference in Indiana. "And if, because of the lack of clarity in my words, that they came away with the impression other than I stated a moment ago -- that life is precious, that I abhor violence and that I'm confident God abhors violence and rape -- if they came away with any impression other than that, I truly regret it."
Mourdock's comments not only threaten to make a competitive Senate race more challenging for the GOP, but also, by proxy, exacerbate Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney's struggles with female voters.
Romney appeared in a television ad on Monday that endorsed Mourdock, the only such ad the GOP standard-bearer has cut for a Senate candidate this cycle. The Romney campaign released a statement on Tuesday evening taking exception to the Indiana Senate candidate's comments, and Mourdock said on Wednesday that he hadn't spoken to Romney or any other Republican who had urged him to apologize.
Romney's campaign issued a statement on Wednesday reiterating its support for Mourdock, while emphasizing its differences from Mourdock on allowing abortion in cases of rape and when the mother’s health is in danger.
Democrats have tried to make hay of the controversy, releasing a flurry of statements demanding that Romney more forcefully disavow Mourdock and take down the television ad. (Mourdock said Wednesday that the ads continued to run in Indiana.)
"For those who kind of want to twist the comments, and use them for partisan, political gain -- I think that's wrong with Washington these days," Mourdock said of the response his comments had provoked. "I'm confident that Hoosier voters are going to be moving on and supporting us in big numbers in 13 days."
The controversy threatened to remind voters of other Republicans' comments this election about rape, most notably Missouri Senate candidate Todd Akin's comments earlier this summer asserting that "legitimate rape" rarely results in pregnancy. Republicans more sharply distanced themselves from Akin, a congressman, and urged him to drop out of the race.
Akin never withdrew, though, a move which is widely regarded to have hurt the GOP's chances of beating Democratic incumbent Sen. Claire McCaskill in Missouri and, by extension, retake the U.S. Senate. Republicans must pick up a bet of four seats on Nov. 6 -- three, if Romney is elected president -- in order to wrest control of the upper chamber from Democrats. The GOP entered the 2012 elections with hopes of achieving that goal, but candidates' missteps and better-than-expected performances by some Democrats have made control of the Senate an open question in this election.
Whether this hurts Mourdock's race versus Donnelly -- or is able to translate into a political millstone for Romney -- is an open question in the waning days before Election Day. Mourdock took strides toward reassuring important women voters of his stance.
"I don't think God wants rape, because rape is evil," he said. "I want to assure every woman who hears this, who hears the story of this, that I abhor it, and I'm confident God abhors this."

Indiana Republican Senate candidate Richard Mourdock said Wednesday that his controversial comments regarding conception following rape are being taken out of context. At a Tuesday night debate versus Democratic opponent Joe Donnelly, he said that when a women becomes pregnant after being raped, “that’s something God intended.”
how in the world could this statement been twisted, you said what you meant.
lets remember, this is the same philosophy Akins and Ryan stood by, and lets not forget Ryan co sponsored a bill to try and redefine rape and Romney endorsed both, how can we believe Romney on any thing.
please tell me and don't bring up the president he is not in this article.
Bottom line...Women would be forced to carry to term their rapists child!
chilled
Bottom line...Women would be forced to carry to term their rapists child!
And when that child need state health care this same GOP says NO
when this child need food stamps because the victim was in NO position to financially care for the child the GOP says NO.
Mourdoch said that pregnancies resulting from violent acts - are a "gift from God."
Views like these are held by Paul Ryan, Todd Akin as well as Mourdoch, and they are prevalent across the GOP Congress.
GOP/RomneyRyan REALLY want to brush the facts of that reality under the rug and right now.
GOP would like to make such social views go away at this point in the election. I
It is important for everyone to realize that a very radical agenda would be voted in, if the new extremist Republican party gets its way.
Now I get it, Willard disagrees with Barny Rubble just not enough to tell him to take down his ad! lol
These "men" should never ever be allowed to write a law concerning women. Period.
I would admit that he probably did not intend to mean that the rape itself was what God intended, but even the statement that the resulting pregnancy was "God's will" is way off base.
I am a devout Catholic but I disagree entirely that every event, tragedy or misfortune is "God's Will".
I also don't believe it is "God's will" that politicians make personal decisions for women.
Everyone must remember: This is the GOP...This is no surprise.....They just don't want to talk about stuff like this during a national election...
Defelct, defelct, deflect
Indiana Republican Senate candidate Richard Mourdock said Wednesday that his controversial comments regarding conception following rape are being taken out of context.
How in the world does this guy believe that his words and his intended comment was taken out of context? This is just another example of a politician saying something he believes in then discovering that it is found to be appalling by the majority of people, so he wants to Etch-A- Sketch it away.
He is a typical Tea Party candidate that is so out of step with mainstream voters, that we must do everything in our power to keep him and those like him as far away from D.C. as possible.
You got it Jeff-1541632.
I fail to understand the TePeople and their un-ending focus on womens reproductive rights while there is no focus on what happens later.
Those people are not pro-life......they are only pro-birth!
WHOA!
Wait a second, didn't Todd Akin claim, rape disrupts ovulation by women having "super secret secretions" which automatically know whether or not the sex was forced?
I sure wish these old white men could get their stories straight when it comes to MY body!
DCIA,
I just don't get it. These same men criticize the Taliban for their attitudes towards women, yet act no differently here in the US. There is no difference between the two. They both want control over women and their bodies.
So a child conceived through rape is god's will and plan but a child that will destroy the mother's health or kill her isn't? Strange god we have here in Indiana.
If Mourdoch thinks a child conceived by rape is a gift from god, then what is his definition of evil?
What does he think the devil would do to women and helpless children?
I'm afraid to find out.
Vote for sanity and human dignity! Vote for women's rights! Vote for freedom of religion and freedom FROM religious beliefs that promote harming people in the name of god!
Vote against the phony religiousity of the right wing Taliban! If we let them have their way, they'll go back to burning 'witches' at the stake.
You finally spelled it right on the third try.
Please tell us why Romney is trying to deflect women's attention away from GOP ultra-right wing social engineering.
Or do you support it too?
Mourdoch is the one who is twisted! Hopefully, the good people of Indiana realize that now.
lol...hmmmm, thinking what would Ann Romney do if she got raped and preggars?!?! lol
Why am I not surprised that you don't understand the breadth and depth of all that Mourdock's comment implies, WCA?
Kaybeetoys--Yeah, I noticed he got it right on the third try, too. More women are going to college than men, and working harder, and WCA and white males like him are threatened.
CRinCali -- Spot on. The similarities in their desire to control and rule over women is startling and scary.
SUre Jack and KB, you got me, my typing sucks.
You gals are oh so smart.
I know because you tell us all here every day.
Why am I not surprised that you don't understand the breadth and depth of all that Mourdock's comment implies, WCA
It only implies one thing Jack, he's an idiot.
But you and your libbie friends feel free to read as much as you want into it. BTW What makes you think I'm a white male? How very Liberal of you.
I can't believe we still elect people who believe in an omnipotent being that lives in the sky and controls everything with our best interests in mind of course.
"Everyone gets a mansion."
On a side note: If I wasn't working I would have a fun game going by taking a shot every time the word God appears in this one article and then continue my game throughout the comments section.
TNSEVOL
I would admit that he probably did not intend to mean that the rape itself was what God intended, but even the statement that the resulting pregnancy was "God's will" is way off base.
With all due respect, if Mourdoch's god willed that a child be conceived during an act of rape, it's kind of a stretch to think the rapist would use artificial insemination.
I could be wrong...
WOW, who would have thought that the Democrats best strategy would be to shut up................................ and let the Republican "leaders" hang themselves? and it's FREE! Obama could have saved millions, by just letting Mittens and Lyin Ryan run their mouths until they convinced everyone to vote for the President!
The new campaign slogan could be "Republicans-Shooting themselves in the foot for 200 years and still continuing the proud tradition today"!
Have a medically necessary D & C from a trustworthy discrete doctor. That's the way rich women always have had their abortions. Even when it was illegal
Toofunny-
I fail to see the humour in anyone getting raped. "LOL" is the last thing I would say, regardless of political affiliation.
NOMORESAME; This is the GOP.....I wish they would all come out and say it....
Oh, that's right, they already did.....It is called being PRO-LIFE....Pro-life means no exceptions....Period..
The GOP wants control over a woman's uterus because that is where control of your wife starts...Control when she gets pregnant(Instead of her through birth-control ie; planned parenthood for most working class women) is control over everything........
I personally think sometimes when I want my wife to slow down it would be better if she was pregnant...But because of the law I can't just force another child on her......And I am glad it is that way....We should decide together about more children and should have control over it besides just abstinence(Which is the GOP birth-control plan...Hey GOP the nineteenth century is calling and they want their family planning stance back)
GOP,
pro-life
pro crime (rape)
pro everything that screws up womens lives.
The Tealiban GOP is the biggest threat to our freedom that we have seen since Hitler.
Smart men admit that women are smarter than they are. Congrats, WCA.
When men have uteruses, get pregnant and give birth, then and only then can they make policy decisions that affect women regarding contraception, rape and abortion.
Unless, of course, you'd like women legislators deciding when you should be forced to have a vasectomy or be allowed to take Viagra?
This is the candidate Romney has endorsed. Are we at all surprised. Actually I am kind of. When you watch Romney after each debate or event, he goes straight to Ann for her approval. It is clear she "wears the pants" in their family. Surprising she would allow Mitt to take the stance he has on "choice." But of course, he's taken EVERY stance on EVERYTHING!
Obama/Biden 2012
Why is anyone surprised? The GOP candidates have made a number of abortion gaffes this election cycle.
I'm still amazed that any woman would consider voting for any GOP candidates, given the RNC platform statement on abortion.
The GOP preaches smaller government on one hand, yet they intend to pass legislation that outlaws abortion across the nation.
Romney writing in The National Review, June 18, 2011: "I will advocate for and support a Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act to protect unborn children who are capable of feeling pain from abortion."
Devils son: how true about rich women and pregnancy....They have been getting abortions all along but us ants aren't enlightened enough to make the choice...We just use abortion as birth-control in their eyes...
Rich girls don't get abortions, they go on vacation to Europe.
Rich womens' abortion = D&C!
Kaybeetoys-
I was just trying to point out that Mourdock was arguing his way out of a totally indefensible postion (Rape is God's Will) into a mysogynist, idiotic one.
Either way he is still a loser.
You talk like one.
TNSEVOL,
Agreed. That was way over the top.
Romney is now standing firmly behind this sleaze. romney supports a rapist over a woman
this is the republican party- telling america rape is a gift from god and women are cattle.
when was the last time a repub asked for stronger rape laws? nope
when was the last time a repub said equal pay for women was wrong- yesterday.
there is a republican war on women and women are losing-badly
TNSEVOL - The humor was more in the hypocrisy of it all not the act. "Do as I say, not as I do"
The GOP without a thought would take away a woman's right. And as women, we sit here and take this crap. We bust our butts working and being so called equals and then you get these condescending men up there with their money, and we some how become less of a person. They can all go rot in whatever "heaven" they believe in.
Any woman casting a vote for the GOP or any Republican at this point is voting against years of hard work. So yes, my comment was a bit crude, but the realization of it all is, we as woman are about to be put back in a box we fought hard to get out of, while men can go out there and F**K whatever and whoever they want. Double standards are what reign in this day and age. Its time for the "good old boys" to go the F* away!!
Anyway, please have a nice day.
I agree completely, TNSEVOL. I just hope the women of Indiana get out and vote to make sure Mourdoch loses.
In the mindset of Mourdock and other republican/tea party knot-heads, a pregnancy by means of rape is not a problem. I'd love to see their reaction if one of their family members were the victim of rape and their family member was impregnated.
But because he believes that GOD intended this to happen I guess he also believes that doctors should stop treating people with cancer or other health problems. After all, wouldn't cancer, diabetes and other health related issues also be considered GOD willed in his warped mind and we should just let things run their course?
And then be forced to be raped by him metaphorically in court over custody, visitation, and allowing the child to be adopted. It would make women more likely to not report a rape.
We need to vote out this TeaParty this election. They are America's Extremists. They have done this country great harm.
You talk like one.
Wow Jack, painting with a bit of a broad brush there, eh bigot?
Given enough rope you folks always take the bait. So dang easy.
Vermillion - the idiot here is clearly you. You continue to believe the lies the far right is spoon feeding you.
President Obama DID NOT LIE during the debates but that is precisely what MItt did - ALL LIES! You're supporting a pathological liar who cares for no one and nothing. Actually, he's more of a sociopath. He finds nothing wrong in his lies if they benefit him.
Obama/Biden 2012
if that's "god's will' then he's not worthy of worship.
vermillion, what does it matter what political leaning prisoners have when felons aren't allowed to vote?
I'll keep saying it:
ANY WOMAN WHO VOTES FOR A REPUBLICAN IS A FOOL
Wow, WCA: as if you haven't said it often enough that you are a man.
I wouldn't be calling others bigots, we have read enough of your nonsense here to know what you are.
LOL....let him just keep running his mouth...all the better for the dems.
Dear Jack,
I would say it was to make a point. I apologize if you thought it was "way" over the top. But Thank God, I live in a FREE Country to say anything I want too. Let's see how long that last for us women :)
WCA,
I don't hear you denying it.
If the shoe fits. . . .
newday,
Exactly. See my bracketed insertion. It's not as if he suddenly appeared yesterday and we're just getting our first read of him.
TOOFUNNY,
I understand--no apology necessary. And I realize how pissed some of this nonsense can make you. I'm not a great one for "rising above it", either. Coming into contact with stupidity can make you crazy.
Men such as this are saying that they can impregnate any woman against her will, and force her to deliver the child even if it kills her.
Mourdock's whining brings to mind what the Sarah Palin look-alike on SNL once said: "How DARE the media distort what I said by quoting me verbatim."
Hey women vote for Ryan/Romney & Mourdock I'm sure they have your interest at heart more than President Obama. If you believe that I have a bridge to sell you.
President Obama 2012
Grazed----let's not forget the violence against women act....The GOP supports violence against women, not the law designed to help those unfortunate women(I would bet men who batter their wives are voting for Mittens) and prosecute the perpetrators to the fullest extent...
When the subject is RAPE...the GOP is always explaining that it is GOD'S will...
when they throw the election in the toilet & LIBERALS WIN....then GOD had nothing to do with the action !
I want to meet this CONSERVATIVE GOD, if for no other reason than to ask why HE is so IMPOTENT
when it comes to Liberals being voted into office AND why HE likes Women RAPED instead of married & having children by the accepted method !
According to the GOP Bible...any woman raped has the RIGHT to RAPE her rapist....so when is the American Taliban going to make THAT the LAW of the country ?
its Jack and he thinks he is super smart. Alma Mater is MIT for Jackie Boy or was it Cambridge. I just know they're so smart, they've evolved beyond common sense. But the FR libs like Obama are a flock of seagulls when it comes to his record. But they're super smart. Did I tell you they're super smart?
White Collar Auto
WCA is really a black female immigrant from Kenya. She fooled all you libs. Ha ha
Republicans are constantly reciting things that are contained in their own Republican Party Platform, which is soundly rejected by the American People, and then they're embarassed by their own position on the issues.
Romney signed on to these same beliefs, he had to in order to get the Republican Nomination.
Obama/Biden 2012
In GOP land if you get mad at a female you can get at her for the rest of her life by impregnating her with your child through rape( An act of God no doubt) and she will be forced to carry it and deliver the spawn of you...........SICK SICK PUPPYD$%CKS
Gee. I seem to be getting under CA's (thin) skin.
Houston,
That was really funny.
Vermillion Sky, If you're going to make sh!t up it has to be at least partially believable. Did you go to every prison and poll the inmate as to their party affiliation? Or did your just assume a lot of minorities so they must be Democrats.
No, I understood it the first time and my response is still the same.....Holy Sh*t!
Obama/Biden 2012
The great 2012 Pro-Life Bait and switch is on.....
GOP is pro-life but they won't mess with your rights......SUUUUUURRRRRRRREEEEEEE
Jack, It is at that point. I can't wait for the elections to be over. Its the whole stupidity factor that is killing me lol. I am one of those females that work with men, and I have to fight for all I get, and it shouldn't be this way. So at times, you just want to scream, because no matter how hard you work, it just doesn't matter. Anyway, back to work I go for this woman has to make sure she can feed and clothe her baby lol. Peace :)
This is the type of collateral damage you'll get with an etch-a-sketch romney-hood administration.
You'll get an habitual flip-flopper in the White House siding with even more extremists and loons from the gop/teabagger parties in the House. Plus the same type of right wingnut philosophy stalling and impeding the Senate.
It's not all about the economy. It's about the next members of the Supreme Court. It's about women's rights and health issues, it's about foreign policies run by war friendly GOP chicken-hawks, and so much more!
When you vote for romney you'll get all sorts of secondary nut jobs too!!!
Devils son......This is his method
No Feisty you didn't understand. If god intended it then the woman would become pregnant because the rapist was doing god's work. See? But if this was not a holy rape, that is sanctioned by the supreme being, then the woman's secret secretions would kick in and prevent the pregnancy, assuming it was a legitimate rape of course.
Now in the case of an illegitimate rape, that is one not sanctioned by the holy father which the slut brought on herself by dressing in a suggestive manner or hanging out in bars. Well, I guess the woman is just stuck with the little b*stard because to abort the fetus, even in the situation involving an illigetimate rape would be a sin. But hey, it's her fault.
See, it's pretty simple.
Like I said the first time, Holy Sh*t!
Obama/Biden 2012
To be fair, much of the media is playing it as if he said that God wants the woman to be raped, which isn't what he said. He said that God wants the woman to become pregnant when she is raped, it's slightly not as bad but clearly still horrible. Even Fox News is saying it's about time that the GOP separates itself from the Tea Party, which I doubt they would be saying if it wasn't election time since the owner of Fox News is the biggest Tea Party spokesman. Right now they are trying to project moderate views to grab a few votes from women, youth, and minorities. But keep in mind that the reason Romney became the front runner for the GOP is because a few months ago he was agreeing with all the extreme views and promising to implement them when in the White House.
You said what you said. you're done. After endorsing you, Romney has now thrown you under the bus. He should be done too. Republicans, off to the showers with you. Wait, some of you would like that wouldn't you,...cold showers.
Mourdock, a favorite of Tea Party supporters said his comments were inelegantly stated.......
Wow, too funny. "Inelegant" was the same word Romney used to describe his 47% speech when he was doubling down on it BEFORE he turned around and decided that he was completely wrong. I was being "inelegant". Apparently the new term that the Gop uses when they majorly screw things up for themselves.
I am glad these gentleman spoke out to what they believe. The republican party has let this happen and they will lose my vote. I have never voted straight ticket for any election and have been a republican for more than 30 years. This party doesn't represent me as a women. My husband asked me is this the only issue important to me. No, but if I don't stand up now, when. When they throw women in jail for not wanting to have a rapist baby. Or when they decide what my role in this world is. I did not make this issue part of the republican party. Those in power in this party decide the extreme views of this issue did not matter. They refuse to stand up to these views. They paid for their nomination to this ticket with my life and my freedoms. I guess they thought I didn't value my life as much as I do.
I wonder if he would feel this way if his daughter was raped and ended up pregnant?
It's not a question of our belief that a baby's life is sacred. Of course we believe it to be so. This is a question of our belief that we have a right to force our will on a woman about choices made for her own body.
GOP will tell you that they're for freedom, but they're happy to force their will on others, particularly on other nations. Democrats aren't a lot better in the will-forcing department, but at least they aren't quite so duplicitous about it, and they stand behind behind a woman's right for self-determination in this case.
The GOP would force a woman to stay pregnant for the full term, then require the woman to share custody with the rapist; mandating that she can't sever the relationship with him for another 18 YEARS.
The GOP really does want to "Put y'all in chains" so long as you are a poor woman.
If you are wealthy, you'll just travel to Europe to have a "spa day" and take care of you minor health issues.
Lets hope the people (i.e. the real live human beings, not the corporations) are smart enough to not vote for the GOP. For some reason, I doubt this will happen.
He didn't mean Rape-Rape...
http://tpmlivewire.talkingpointsmemo.com/2011/02/kristen-shaal-rape-redefinition-protects-americans-from-money-rape-video.php
Watch that video and pass it on.
So, let's see now. If a female gets raped by her father, becomes pregnant, this is something that God willed? Disregarding the fact that the resulting child will be genetically AT RISK because of this relationship - oh heck, God still willed it? How many other evil things does God endorse?
And when good, decent people get murdered in one of these mass shootings, God willed that too?
God is probably wringing his hands and crying "What in the world have I created?"
Ladies.
The rapists would be so emboldened under a Romney/Ryan, Akin, Mourdoch, administration, especially since they now know that according to Mr. Mourdoch they are delivering God's gift to you. Luckily we have great law enforcement. Ooops! Mr. Romney is for less government, so the police station in your area might be gone. You might have to buy a big gun and help yourself, but it might not help in cases of date rape, and Mr. Romney signed one assault weapons ban in MA, he could easily sign another. Also remember he plans to rid the country of Roe v Wade. Can you say barefoot and pregnant.
Republicans have changed so much in the recent years. 15 years ago I was proud to be a Republican but I came home to find a very different Republican Party. As a Veteran there is no spot for me in the party anymore and I am almost ashamed I ever considered myself a Republican. I can't believe they are trying to push all these issues under government control.
Ah if only Jack, if only. I think you should stick to anthropology, it's clearly your 'strong' suit. Now back to your ivory tower.
So, does he also think a rape without a pregnancy is also a gift from God?
Someone should ask him that and see if he takes the bait. This guy is obviously not the brightest bulb.
And, Romney just a couple days ago campaigned for this guy and put out an ad supporting him. That could be a hard stink to try and wash off.
A vote for Obama would be one of many tears for you folks out there. you really think Obama is for the people . He has his own agenda with the world not the United States. He wants to bring down this nation and he isn't far from doing so. So many close minded people that can't see the light. But I guess not everyone sees the light.
Where do the republicans find these people? Seriously, as if rape isn't horrible enough to go through, one of our main political parties is trying to make these women's lives even worse by making them bear the children of rapists. How do these people even get this far in a campaign without being literally laughed and shamed out of the party? Do they have any idea what goes through a sane person's head when they hear this garbage?
Arterian MSP Obama is a follower of the same person on that picture of yours. it's a fact.
NOT OPTIMAL IN DEED!!!.....No smoke & Mirrors!!!
Romney was right and BOZOhuseen was lying ....Again!!!!....REuters report from Washington,,,
The truth is coming out about Libya......more lies from Barry, Over-the-Hill'ry and drunken-Biden.....preplanned Islamic Terrorist attack....nothing to do with the video...The White House had 7 hours to save the UNarmed Embassy people... and let them be murdered!!
Hey BOZOhussen, the USA now has these ships that have planes land and take off from them--they are called aircraft carriers....WHY did you NOT help the embassy people??!!
Even the inept jimmy "the peanut brain" Carter did not allow our Embassy people to be murdered!!!
Don't kid yourselves. If men got pregnant--abortion would be a sacrament!
KayBeeToys 1.29
Excellent post! I've been saying those exact same things for years.
Border Joe: I know it's difficult but please try to stay on topic. This is NOT about Libya--this is about your wives, your girlfriends, your sisters, your daughters, your mothers, your neighbors, your fellow female Americans--being forced to carry their rapists' babies for 9 months!
Try to stay on topic, ok? This affects many more citizens and is FAR more important than any Jimmy Carter Libyan peanut brain rant! Shame on you!
Republicans like Mourdock aren't pro life or even pro birth. They use this as their excuse to be "pro sexual intercourse". Mutual consent first choice, backed up by rape, if the first choice cannot be accomplished. It's all about getting 'em some absent accountability. Republican men (maybe women) seem to think more about, and incorporate, various forms of copulation than any other order of life's virtue. Peculiar.
That IS Washington these days! Look at how much the conservatives have twisted and blasted Obama for each and every little thing said or done. It wasn't enough to "hope he fails" prior to being sworn in. No, the conservatives had to exacerbate and prolong the financial crisis that started under Dubya's watch and hold the unemployed, under-employed, retired, soon to retire, and poor all hostage for their need for power and money. They whined about jobs during the mid-terms. "Elect me, elect me, I'll create jobs. We need job creators! It's all about jobs! Jobs, jobs, jobs!" Where are the jobs they promised? The conservatives have held back, while absolutely rejecting any middle ground to the point of a downgrade in America's credit rating. And then there's Paul Ryan who's record of voting for the socialist bailouts of capitalist America with the likes of TARP and TBTF, along with votes for two unfunded wars (one based on lies about WMD's), the unfunded and socialist Medicare Part D, and the Bush tax cuts, is being sold to the voters as a "fiscal hawk."
Yep, twisting others actions and words for partisan or political gain should only be acceptable for the other guy! My, oh my, with candidate challengers such as these, America's future looks bright [sarcasm].
This GOP guy is lying. Christian fundamentalism teaches that God is in control of all things. That's why when you hear of an airplane crash or a little girl getting raped and killed, the Christian fundies say things like "It was God's will," or "She's with God in heaven." He said what he said and he meant what he said. Now he lies and says his words were twisted. Just like Mormon Mitt said about the 47% are deadbeat losers comment. Good Christian liars all.
Gregorio
It'd be interesting to see the world through your eyes, if only for a few seconds. I have to tell you, it feels pretty damn good to see things as they really are. I can't imagine how it would feel to be driven so much by fear and hate that I'd have to make up baseless conspiracies to justify my preconceived notions. A majority of this country sees President Obama as a good man who has made a lot of progress in his first term, especially considering the state of the country when he took office. Nothing that you posted is even remotely close to true. In fact, it's nothing more than lies. If you want to have a serious talk about people who want to bring the nation down, consider the previous administration. Their baseless war for profit and out of control spending, including the financial meltdown, have done more to bring this nation down than anything Obama could possibly do, even if he was as sinister as you seem to think he is.
White Collar Auto

DEFLECT,DEFLECT,DEFLECT...
20 years ago you didn't hear politicans talk like this. What with reality TV shows about 16 year old mothers, dealing with the Westboro Baptist Church, and Palins kid preaching about abstinance while keeping a baby sitter, not to mention the President being Muslim....somebody dumped a whole lot of stupid in the water supply. At least we know who they are. I'm voting straight Democrate. Less crazies
White Collar Auto
WCA is really a black female immigrant from Kenya. She fooled all you libs. Ha ha
**********************************************
I SUPPOSE its POSSIBLE that this poster is indeed a woman...After all GOP women dont seem to be the brightest, but black?? NO FRIGGEN WAY
At least not the black I KNOW
Are there black conservatives? sure
BUT IMHO, WCA is neither woman, nor black
Im not sure how he thinks we misunderstood him?
he thinks the rape - not god's will, the ensuing pregnancy, absolutely GOD's will.
So it's GOD's will that raped women become pregnant?
not a GOD I care to spend eternity with.
It would seem, it would be GOD's will that all raped women NOT become pregnant...and yet, thats not how it pans out. What's wrong with GOD, I have to wonder?
Jessica, with that attitude....
It sickens me to read the rhetoric here. I am totally pro-life and for so many to so vehemently abhor those that support the right to life of over a million babies murdered every year in this country is totally demonic in nature.
I just don't get it. These same men criticize the Taliban for their attitudes towards women, yet act no differently here in the US. There is no difference between the two. They both want control over women and their bodies. CRinCa
Your right, there is a guy running in Washington that would like women whom have an abortion go to jail for murder, no matter what the excuse is. Some running for congress and the senate would like to take the vote away from women. Where do these guys come from and the scary thing is that they get elected. I wonder what the real Republican party thinks of these guys? Where is the GOP members before the Tea Party came into being? Women are smart enough and have the ability to decide what to do with their bodies. We have the fundemental right to decide.
The God I know is a loving God, the God Akin and Murdoach knows is not.
What's "twisted" is Indiana Republican Senate candidate Richard Mourdock's views.
Obama/Biden 2012
Where does this guy hail from, Whackistan?
Vote to keep these decisions with the SCOTUS, not the Whackistanis of Ryan and co.
I wonder if God wants the woman to also share custody of the baby...
I wonder why it is that 'pugs seem to think that a woman is little more than a womb with legs and yet men seem to be so much more than a dong with legs.
In fact, it seems that most teabaggers are little more than dongs with legs...and very big unbridled mouths. To bad about that brain...
Great, Linda. If you are raped and become pregnant as a result, it is your decision to make if you choose to bear the child.
However, it is not your right to force your opinion on another woman. Believe what you want to believe about when life begins. Let others do the same, within the limits of the law.
Think beyond the simple ideology of your version of morality. Think what this country would become if a man could rape a woman and force her to bear the child. Think what it would be like if a man could rape his own daughter and force her to have a baby conceived out of incest. Imagine what that policy would do to the gene pool and to our idea of a family. Imagine being a child conceived by rape, having a father who is not a good role model in anyone's book.
Life is not black and white, it is many shades of gray. Abortion is not a good thing, but all too many times it is the lesser of two evils. As a woman yourself, you should be able to find sympathy in your heart for someone who has been raped and impregnated. Let women have the right to choose the lighter shade of gray.
"linda m" you admit, then, that rape is a part of your "god's" plan. As a woman, how does that make you feel about yourself? Are you simply brainwashed into thinking that you are sub-human or do you hate yourself so much that you think all who are like you should be treated like sexual property and be forced to bear, rear and support the fruit of that evil?
What kind of evil entity are you worshiping, woman? Do you slaughter a goat during the service?
it seems odd that the teabaggers are so opposed to healthcare when they are so clearly in dire need of it...
Linda M-311663
Are you so wrapped up in your own little world as to believe only liberals get abortions? Christens, Jews, Muslims etc.... all get abortions. If the laws in this country were based on the Bible you could be arrested for not obeying your parents, coveting thy neighbor and praying to a false god. Mr. Mourdock would have us living under his religion as he sees it.
Any woman who votes for a republican, votes against herself. Romney/Ryan stance, against Ledbetter act, government bans on ALL abortion and most birth control (Person-hood Bill, Ryan proposed and Mitt said he would sign it into law). they would stop any and all law suits for equal pay for women. Mitt would appoint Judges who believe corporations are people and would next give these corporate people the right to vote.
Are you so narrow minded that everyone in this country has to believe and live their lives as you do? I don't know were you get your facts but according to the law an embryo is NOT a baby. If you are truly a Christian and believe in the bible, the Old Testament allows a husband to Kick his wife in the belly to abort a baby if its not his. So much for the Bible not allowing abortions. So drop the holier-than-thou attitude.
And what could be more twisted than the blind faith in a child rapist in the sky, looks like Willie Nelson, (no offense, Willie) who's blond and blue zombie lovechild wandered Old Jerusalem, walking on water among other outstanding feats, and is due back any day now? Oh yea, could happen, right?
The first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem....
One last statement, A woman relative of mine was raped. She was 27 at the time and a mother of two. She almost lost her life giving birth to her youngest . The Doctor told her if she has another baby it will kill her. With a husband and 2 young children do you think the government should tell her to keep the rapists baby? She also WAS pro life until she had to make a choice, have an abortion or DIE!!!! Yes she is still alive today and has raised 2 children to adult-hood.
This is nothing but more fodder for the feminist to get riled up over. They're happy he said it, now they feel justified in their inexcusable hatred towards the opposite sex.
A few questions about protocol when one attends services at Richard Mourdock's church:
Are the snakes supplied, or do you have to bring your own?
When drawing the pentagram for services, can you use colored chalk, and does neatness really count?
And is it really necessary to sacrifice a virgin? What if the supply in his hometown is somewhat thin?
I think the only thing twisted are the sick minds of the Tea Party and their supporters!
Is "john doe" the name you use when checking into hotels with your evening's property? Your feeling towards women is quite obvious...
Can you remind us who you are supporting for President?
Joe, you're comments are so ignorant I don't even know where to start.
1. Seven hours to save the Embassy people...Save them with what Joe? Call in an airstrike to kill hundreds of Libyan people who tried to rescue our staff?
2. It wasn't an Embassy Joe, it was a consulate...therefore no Marines. Do you know what a Marine Embassy detachment is for Joe...not to save people. It's there to safeguard secret documents Joe...to protect paper and if they can't protect it...they destroy it.
3. As to your comment about ships, where were those ships Joe? Were they in the Persian Gulf or the Med...it makes a difference Joe. And what would you have liked those aircraft carriers to have done Joe? I'm sure we also have Ohio class attack submarines off the coast Joe, do you suppose we should launched Tridents at Libya? What would you have suggested Joe?
Why is it that whenever Republicans say something they get raked over the coals for and later admit was "stated inelegantly" they then try and deflect the ensuing criticism, always charging that their comments "were taken out of context"?
You said what you said, Mourdock...nobody but you said it.
No...no lack of clarity there at all...your words were quite clear.
Doubtful...the only regret you have is that your statement came back to bite you.
I wonder if the general Republican populace will shun him like they shunned Akins, at least for a while...time to cue Mike Huckabee.
You see...now that's a problem. They share the same side of town with an American Taliban church, and they've got all the virgins reserved for their after-life.
No joe, I'm not done with you yet. As much as I'm sure President Carter would have liked to have had more control of the situation, he was not in a position to allow or prevent our personnel from being murdered. By the way...what do you think of Delta Force? Pretty impressive? You can thank ol' "peanut brain" for their existence.
It's all really simple. If you believe that life begins at conception, then abortion is murder. If you believe that life begins when one is born, then abortion is nothing more than popping a pimple and thus, no problem. And then there's the gray area in between. Obviously if you are of the first belief then it matters not how the child was conceived, to abort is to murder. Like-wise, if you are of the latter belief, then as long as the fetus has not been born (ie: completely out of the womb) then it is alright to terminate. The problem is that most people fall somewhere in the middle. Even the pro-abortionists are frequently in the middle. Why else do they express any concern what-so-ever about a fetus. After all, it's just puss! Same thing for the pro-life crowd. For some reason, the child can take a backseat if it was conceived by rape or incest. Then, there's the position of Obama, where it's clearly a puss until it is born unless it is born alive when the intent was for the puss not to be born at all. In that case it is OK to murder the born baby because it is the intent that it should not have been born at all that matters, so even though it looks like a baby, cries like a baby, smells like a baby and breaths like a baby, it is not a baby because the intent was that it should not be a baby. Not sure when Obama's termination has to take place. Maybe you can wait 15 years and say, "gee, my intent was to terminate and it was botched, so let's terminate now!"
What can anyone expect from the Teaparty? "I meant what I said THEN, but this is NOW, and I know you didn't REALLY believe me....Did you???? If this religious CRAZY really believes, that his god decides when and how women become pregnant, he needs some serious therapy. He obviously did not pay attention in biology class, either! So it is "GOD'S will, if a woman becomes pregnant from RAPE, and that she should then be FORCED to carry that child to term?? What happens then, if she is Unemployed, or a student, or is mentally challenged in some way, will she be able to care for that child? Or will she need state assistance ie; Food stamps, Medicaide, W.I.C. etc?? These right wing CRAZIES don't seem to EVER consider those factors, when they spout off about Abortion or other rights for women, for that matter. Not to mention the horrible mental strain that carrying a rapist's baby would cause! But that is so obviously not important to people like these!!!
WCW, DEFLECT, DEFLECT, DEFLECT
Reminds me of Lost In Space, Danger Will Robinson, Danger
So the robot Willard is throwing his buddies under the bus. But his ad is still running. It is time we throw the whole tpgop under the bus. If they all don't think, will don't think alike, they certainly think similarly.
Forgot to add: The fact is that Roe v. Wade has not been followed by the courts. Roe provided a 3 tier test based on the trimester that the baby is in. The courts have been following a universal one tier test of the first trimester, regardless of what trimester the baby is in. Just for your information.
Since the GOP is such an advocate of keeping all living beings alive no matter what the pretext then it is only fair that they bear the responsibility to take care of and nurture all those human beings for the remainder of their natural born days. Shelter them, feed them, cloth them, educate them, nurture them so that they all grow up to be responsible human beings just like the GOP. No reneging now ....... that's part of your responsibility of directing the lives of the rest of us and telling us how to live our lives.
Witchrunner,
And God "BREATHED" Life into Adam!" Not much doubt here as to when life begins is there!
Enough of the faith based bull @!$%#. Enough! Please, ANY so
called Christian, are any of the following tenets of your faith NOT true?
* EVERYTHING is a part of God's plan.
* God is ALL powerful and has the ability/power to do
ANYTHING.
* God knows all future.
If these tenets are invariant and true, then not only is
this statement by Murdoch true to Christians, but one can also conclude the
following.
* Child rapes and murders are a part of God's plan
* Death, hunger, and suffering is all a part of God's plan
* People being raised and practicing the Muslim faith is a
part of God's plan
* People rejecting Christianity is a part of God's plan
* People rejecting ALL faith based belief is a part of God's
plan
Then, even if a Christian tries to claim that a rape is not
a part of God's plan, the fact that God is all knowing and all powerful means
he LET IT HAPPEN which is just as bad.
" women become pregnant after being raped, “that’s something God intended.”"
So called Christians, tell me, what exactly is incorrect about
Murdoch's statement above? If the statement is wrong, does that mean things are occurring CONTRARY to God's plan?
Does all this sound ridiculous and ugly? Of course it does.
Then please explain WHY you continue believing, and worse, espousing this crap
to others?? If you really believe this faith based crap, then stop trying to
hide the ugly, ridiculous conclusions that directly fall from it.
God's plan or Satan's
"Twisted" is the correct vernacular... to describe Mr. Mourdock's thinking. Unfortunately, it becomes increasingly apparent that Mr. Mourdock is not an anomaly; rather he is one of a seemingly growing company. Frankly, I am repulsed. This push to insert religious beliefs into our government is contrary to the founding precepts of this nation, to our rule of law, indeed, contrary to our Republic itself. What I cannot comprehend is why there is not a louder outcry against it. Yet, our weak economy is used to distract the eye in what seems to be a successful ploy. Well, I would rather be broke than to have a fat wallet purchased by a relinquishment of those foundational principles, so if that is the only choice presented to me, I rebuke those that offer it, even as I turn from it. Mr. Mourdock, and those who concur with him, keep your religion out of our government.
clwyd, I don't know, you tell me. Are there competing "plans" out there? And does Satan's plan win out sometimes? If so, then the future is NOT known by God. And if the future is not known, when exactly did God's plan diverge from its original version. Again, a bunch of nonsensical crap.
RoMar, what exactly is "twisted" about Murdoch's statement. This statement is a direct conclusion from the basic tenets of Christianity and, to be fair, a lot of religions. Are you saying that Christianity itself is "twisted"? I think the reason there is not a "louder outcry" against this type of statement is that, based on the beliefs of most Christians, there is nothing incorrect about it.
"even when life begins in that horrible situation of rape, that is something that God intended to happen.""God does not want rape, and by no means was I suggesting that he does."
The moron does not explain how God intended this woman to get pregnant without a rape happening. That's what you get when you don't have cognative or critical thinking skills.
riverboy21 - you said this: He said that God wants the woman to become pregnant when she is raped, it's slightly not as bad but clearly still horrible.
Thanks for your compassion. I bet your rape experience was horrible!! I still remember when my 16 year old sister called me and broke down crying because she got raped by a three time loser. You are a pitiful soul, and I hope you never have to go through a similar experience. If you do, you should name the baby Richard. Or Dick. Whichever you think God intended.
Jsteve,
Christianity per se isn't twisted. What's twisted, are some of the Christians and their attempts to impose it through legislation and case law on those who don't believe it.
Believe all the Christian dogma you want, but keep it out of our lives. You want a little Christian "flavor" in our laws, you better show me some credible, scientific, widely accepted evidence and a compelling state interest.
Otherwise, keep it in your church.
Here is the bottom line: This idiot thinks he has the right to compel a woman who has been raped and has become pregnant from said rape to carry the rapist child cause he and "GOD" says so. This would also apply to 11 year old girl who becomes preggo via rapes a well.
I say if I can shove a pregnant porcupine backward up his arse and double dog dare him to attempt the removal of said prickly being from his pompous rumpus then I'll let him call the shots if I happen to become impregnated via rape.
Everybody: I am a rape victim. One thing that NONE of these articles has covered is what effect all the various Republican comments have been having on those who have experienced rape at any time in their lives.
My husband says I have been waking up screaming for the last few nights. I think this comes down to much worse than voter intimidation: it is assault.
NEVER VOTE REPUBLICAN.
Damn Skippy! They just do not get it and never will it seems.
Let us go to war, it is gods will. Let us not tax the rich , it is god will. Make up any line of BS and put the will of god on it and you have made a very good decision. This is how Mitt will run the country into the ground. What a dumb piece of S%%T Mite is
Elizabeth-1372999
I cannot even comprehend what you have gone through. Your voice needs to be heard. My heart and prayers are with you.
Be well sweet girl, and may life be good to you.
Mourdock says pregnancy from rape is intended by God. Is that what Christian Mingle means when they say they'll "find God's match for you"? Remember, the bible says if you rape a virgin, you get to keep her.
Sarah,
Jesus Christ Sarah, please try to pay more attention to the threads going on here. Please check out my post 1.27. I swear that is absolutely the very 1st time in my entire life I've been accused of Christian Dogma! I'll definitely save your post to help defend against flames in the future.
Sarah, correction - see post 1.127.
The right wing Christian god sounds more and more like the radical Allah every day.
In the Republican world, accurately quoting what you have said is 'twisting' your words.
Once it was called immaculate conception. Maybe he thinks it still is.
Does anyone remember Gary Heidnik, a murderer who kidnapped, tortured and raped six women and kept them prisoner in his Philadelphia, Pennsylvania basement?
His goal was to impregnate women and force them to bear his children. Richard Mourdock must have been a fan.
Unfortunately for Heidnik, god did not will any of those women to get pregnant. One managed to escape and alert the authorities.
If Romney/Ryan have their way, look out for more guys like Heidnik. In their twisted version of morality, the crime would be for the woman who was kidnapped, tortured, starved and repeatedly raped to terminate the resulting pregnancy.
Elizabeth, the women of America and 99% of the men are on your side!!
The mantra of the Republican party ... just because I said it, doesn't mean I meant it.
Obama/Biden 2012
LMAO Layton!
Oh... so... TRUE!
"Rumour has it...."
So democrats don't make mistakes in what they say? Cuz I have some debate footage and the damage control that the democratic campaign managers had to do immediately afterwards to prove that's not true. Sequestration sound familiar? Give me a break.
Travisaurus-
Thanks for showing up, but equating Sequestration to the issues of Rape & Abortion? Seriously?
"And if, because of the lack of clarity in my words, that they came away with the impression other than I stated a moment ago -- that life is precious, that I abhor violence and that I'm confident God abhors violence and rape -- if they came away with any impression other than that, I truly regret it."
And here is the original statement, if you want to see how he could mean anything else.
The Indiana state treasurer said Tuesday in response to a question about abortion rights: "I struggled with it myself for a long time, but I came to realize that life is that gift from God and I think even when life begins in that horrible situation of rape that it is something God intended to happen."
It's like when Jon Kyl lied on the Senate floor and then said his statement wasn't meant to be factual. You can't make this bs up.
Strawman. He meant every word he said and even stated as such. He never made a mistake past being a moron.
Logical fallacy sound familiar? ":)
Layton - Best post of the day. Maybe of the week...
How wonderful it would be to have a man in office who knows the mind of God!!
How very fortunate we are to have Mourdoch as a choice!! He knows the intentions of the Creator of the Universe!!
*gasp* Just think what that might mean! Mourdoch might be the second coming of Christ himself!! Halleujah!! [/sarcasm]
Bullsh!t, own up to your own words moron.
That's the problem with you Evangelical Tea Bagging Morons. You can't stand on your own rhetoric. You'd rather blame the reader for reading your own words then admitting you meant every word of it.
Senator: Your words were clear and concise.......we KNOW what you really believe and do not need to twist your words.
Similarly, we KNOW what Romney really believes about 47% of American freeloaders that depend on government assistance............Social security, Medicare and Medicaid are all works of the evil Democrats and all must be repealed or run by the States (that have no money now and will likely cancel all of them).............nice plan to protect the wealthy it seems.
@Layton...........That was Awwwwesommme
TO: Travisaurus who wrote:
How can you call it a "mistake" when what he said is part of the Republican Party Platform?
He didn't make any "mistake", he recited what he said he believes in.
Mitt Romney also had to take the Republican Pledge against abortion, and to sign into law anything and everything possible to overturn Roe v. Wade.
Obama/Biden 2012
Mourdoch didn't misspeak and it's not the "lack of clarity" in his words. It's the lack of charity.
Willard supports Mourdock and Lyin supports Akin. This says everything about their character. Willard and Lyin are against women's rights, the middle class, medicare, social security, and healthcare. These two are dangerous religious extremists that want to shove their religious beliefs down the throats of every American.
Obama/Biden 2012
Throughout this entire election we have seen a deluge of GOP candidates from Romney/Ryan on down, say what they think then try to backtrack. Time after time we have heard "I misspoke", "I didn't mean what I said", "Twisting my words" (Even when they are quoted verbatim) "If you quote me it will be a lie". Seeking to hide their true agenda after letting the cat out of the bag.
I find it interesting that when these guys say in a public forum what they've always said before, suddenly their position is being "twisted".
Note to Mourdock: It IS twisted. But your position was that way before the debate.
My only response is this:
I don't care what the little voices inside your head say. I don't care that you believe those voices are the voice of some invisible being that is determining everything we do and say. I don't care if you believe in an afterlife.
NO LAWS ARE TO BE BASED ON RELIGIOUS ASSERTION! Your myths and fantasies are NOT to be the basis for law in this country. And any law I find reflects a particular religious viewpoint over sound science and evidence? I disregard those.
I think Mourdock was saying-god doesn't care if you being raped....
Mourdock is the twisted one
No, Travis, there was no mistake. Mourdock meant it. He honestly believes that a child conceived of rape is god's will. He didn't say that the rape was god's will, but that any resulting pregnancy is.
By the way, the official GOP platform is that abortion should be outlawed with zero exceptions. Zero. Mitt Romney said he'd be "delighted" to sign a law outlawing all abortion. All abortion...zero exceptions.
Fundamentalist Christians generally believe that God is all-powerful, all-knowing, is everywhere and has a plan for each of us that we are too limited to be able to fully understand. Right? So, if one truly believes such a thing, then it clearly follows that God was OK with you being raped and getting pregnant. How could it possibly be otherwise? Or, if a Devil/Satan led the rapist and God could not prevent it, despite his having a plan for you, then he isn't really all-powerful, is he? Anyone care to answer?
Although I "PERSONALLY" don't believe in abortion I am pro-choice because EVERY woman should have the right to make their own decision about their body whether it is right or wrong. I have many friends who has had abortions over the years and although I did not agree, who am I to judge?
The problem I find with the Mourdock comment is because HE believes and feel a certain way, he tries to force this thoughts on others and in the free world that just doesn't work. At the end of the day, right or wrong there is only ONE judge that matters and those decisions should NOT be left up to politicians.
I TRY to think he was implying that a pregnancy resulted from an act of rape is an act of God and I am a strong believer in things happens for a reason. BUT it is not up to HIM or ANYONE else what the mother decides to do after she finds out she is pregnant as a result of rape. Who wants to relive a horrific event EVERY day of their life? I wouldn't.
Politician's should just stay out of women's health issues ALLL together. Leave it up to the doctor's and the individuals personal choice.
That will be all...
"I struggled with it myself for a long time, but I came to realize that life is that gift from God and I think even when life begins in that horrible situation of rape that it is something God intended to happen."
MOURDOCK "struggled with it?" Puhleeeze! Come back and talk to us when YOU'RE the rape victim, Mr. Mourdock--and YOU'RE the one forced to carry your rapist's "godly gift" inside your belly for 9 months and then give birth to it! This is an insult to us all!
American Girl: "How can you call it a "mistake" when what he said is part of the Republican Party Platform?"
AMEN! If it is truly a mistake--deny it--apologize--deny Mourdock--and any other twisted Republicon who promotes such b.s.--and remove it from your Republican Party Platform!
That is the way you deal with MISTAKES!
Mourdock is twisted, not his comments. It's all part of the teapublican agenda to redefine rape to make denying abortion in case of rape easier. They have been pushing this for some time, only FORCE ABLE rape will be considered rape. Ryan is and has been on board with this for some time now.
his comments were inelegantly stated--------
This election cycle's new rethugli-con party buzz words.......inelegantly stated. That's what the clowns have been doing for three years now.
BTW----what happened to Trump's earthshaking Obama revelation that was due out this morning (9AM local)???????? It's hard to believe Trump could find out something on Obama that the Clintons and the rethugli-con party couldn't find.

Where do the republicans find these people?
Indiana, Missouri, Arkansas and we have a b u t t load of them here in Idaho. I must admit I'm surprised the Arkansas canidate's remarks concerning slavery being benfical to the blacks hasn't gotten more play. Guess it's because he is just running for a state office.
OBAMA/BIDEN 2012 MY vote has already been cast.
How could any woman or man for that matter vote for a fu*king republican anytime in their life?? These godam*ed bible thumpers are nothing more than American taliban trying to force their views of life and religion on you. Don't buy this sh*t today or tomorrow. It's a fairytale!! Romney and Ryan are the Antichrist/wolves in sheeps clothing.
OBAMA/BIDEN 2012 for real AMERICAN FREEDOM
Travisaurus - of all the flip flops, outright lies, and straight up mistruths Romney spewed in both debates...all you got is Sequester?
I'd say, thats not too shabby...
you know, had he lied to win votes - we wouldnt be shocked, it's par for the course.
whats shocking, is that he told us what he really believes...and his beliefs are horrific, appalling, straight up EVIL.
I guess, I just dont see how a loving GOD would compound the horrors of rape, with a pregnancy bearing the rapists dna...
maybe thats why im not a believer...GOD makes little sense, when i see him through a republicans eyes.
There is clearly no logic to such beliefs. It's a mindset that turns away from reality. It is so much easier and more pleasant to let the man in the sky handle everything for them. They are then absolved of responsibility for anything and everything in life.
It doesn't matter if they do good or evil, as long as they have proclaimed their belief in the dogma. If all one has to do is ask forgiveness, there is no need to try to be honest and moral.
Some people are clueless and apathetic, it's as simple as that.
@ justme123: I'll try to answer your question. But don't get me wrong. I'm a dyed-in-the wool liberal atheist (really). It's just that I had a religious upbringing and know how the other half thinks. So, your question was:
Fundamentalist Christians generally believe that God is all-powerful, all-knowing, is everywhere and has a plan for each of us that we are too limited to be able to fully understand. Right? So, if one truly believes such a thing, then it clearly follows that God was OK with you being raped and getting pregnant. How could it possibly be otherwise? Or, if a Devil/Satan led the rapist and God could not prevent it, despite his having a plan for you, then he isn't really all-powerful, is he? Anyone care to answer?
Well, the problem with "God was OK with you being raped" is, of course, the whole issue of free will. If God exercised his all-powerful-ness all the time, so that every action of every person was controlled by God, then there would be no virtue to being good. Acting the way we act would be pre-destined. And it would conflict with our sense that we actually can make choices. (Atheist's take: it's a thinly-veiled rationalization to explain away the existence of evil.)
I suppose there are some who would say that "everything that happens is God's will," and who would say that God wanted that woman to be raped because it would end up making her stronger, or some such. But this isn't mainstream in Judeo-Christian theology because it runs straight into the problem that if God were truly omnipotent, then less evil ways could be found to strengthen the woman.
So, mainstream preachers would tell you that the rape itself was the product of an evil man's free will.
But then you get to the issue of fertilization. What Mourdock said here (and Santorum before him) was that the resulting pregnancy was God's will. That God is there in the woman calling balls and strikes. What I don't understand is why anyone would continue to refer to magical intervention when we understand the biological process quite well. And it isn't necessary to the result they want (no abortions even in cases of rape).
Here's where I'm going to get myself into trouble, because I'm going to give their best argument for banning all abortions. All that is necessary to provide what logical support can be provided to their position is to say that all human life is precious and unique and must be respected. The tiny little human embryo created by such a horrible crime has no blame in its own creation and should not be destroyed because of it.
There, I've said it. Now let me tell you why I am pro choice.
I believe that all human life is precious and unique and must be respected except in grave circumstances (remember war and capital punishment?). Banning abortions would be nice in an ideal world, but we don't live in an ideal world. When this country did forbid all abortions, women and unborn children died from unsafe, illegal abortions. The best actual policy for the world we live in is to make abortions legal and safe, and then discourage them as a mere means of birth control.
Call me a pragmatist as well as a liberal atheist, but if some dusty old book suggests that our law should say "x" (like no abortions, or abstinence-only education) but "x" doesn't actually work, I'm going to give "y" a try.
I've probably rambled on more than you intended, but I felt your question deserved a thoughtful answer.
How many right-wing nut jobs have to say this same thing before people realize they mean what they say the first time.
Monday night I thought we were having an 10.0 earthquake! Come to find out it was just Mitt shaking his Etch-a-sketch again. If Kerry was a flip-flopper what the hell do we call Mittens? Mitt has yet to find a subject he hasn't taken 3 different sides on. He was Pro-choice then Pro-life with-out exception then Pro-life with exception, Don't get involved in Libya then invade Libya then agreed with Obama on Libya. Go into Syria then just arm all the rebels then Obama is doing it just right. Israel; lets do nothing and hope for the best, lets go to war with Iran for Israel, then Obama's plan is just right. Does anyone know were the hell Mittens stands on anything (except money of course)?
Really Trav...Sequestration? You as a Republican really want to go there? Why don't you tell me what you think Sequestration is and what it's implementation would mean to this country. Then tell us why it was adopted by the Congress.
I'll wait Trav.
HEY LAYTON! HEY FEISTY!-- Good to see ya on the vine today! Awesome posts girlfriends, hope everything is well with you both! Someone needs to tell this ignorant Teathug to go back on his meds!!
Here is a question. A child is born to a rape victim. He/she grows up in a very loving family. That person runs for president one day. The story of his/her biological father was a rapist, say from a popular church. The child only meets the man once in his/her life. Does the tpgop give him/her a pass for being a bastard child?
rednawt3
The answer is: The TP/GOP don't give a rat's a$$ about the kids AFTER they're born, so their being a bastard child makes it o.k. for them to discriminate against them.
I'll say my piece another way: I was a rape victim, and because the Republicans have dragged rape into the national limelight, I have been waking up screaming lately. It is assault. This has NOTHING to do with abortion, but with intimidation of women any way they can.
NEVER VOTE REPUBLICAN.
Layton: That is called "nominalism," when words are empty of meaning, or do not represent a reality. It is interesting that these teabaggers use nominalism to backtrack on what they say. At one time, those who used "nominalism" were called atheists. That's exactly what I think the Republicans are, because if they cross out all the lines in their Bibles that support the poor and the widows and the fatherless (those with unknown fathers), they think that God is stupid, or they don't believe in God at all. My God does not mean for anybody to be raped.
Vote Democrat: President, Senate, House, any state or local offices.
rdnawt3 . . .
Children of rape do not grow up in a very loring family. Often they are adopted and then they get the very loving family. People that don't know how life works . . . adoptions, rapes, inceset, should serious shut their corks and comment on rainbows. Until you have lived any of these situations, you have NO voice!
Obama/Biden 2012
Layton, I think you are wrong. I think children conceived through rape can grow up in loving families. But my point is, how would the tp/gop play it out if one of their own who was conceived through a rape? And how would those same people play it out if someone, say a democrat candidate for president was. We both know the answer to that.
and these are Republicans that some women are contemplating voting for along with Mitt Romney. I can't understand why any woman would vote Republican this time. Do they like self inflicted pain? If Republicans sweep do you realize you will be in the 1950s all over again? Cooking, cleaning, having babies, getting paid 50 cents on the dollar. Not having any medical coverage and being insulted for being a single mother raising children by the party that gives absolutely no thought or responsibility to the absent father? Please get out and vote. Vote today and get your neighbors and friends out to vote. Vote straight Democratic tickets and pay attention if you happen to be picking judges and make sure to pick the progressive ones. The ones that have your best interests at heart.
"having no healthcare" "getting paid 50 cents an hour" "having no medical coverage" "paying no attention to the absent father" ???
Look at the direction we have been moving under Obama man! Women's wages have gone down. Accountability among people like absentee fathers is way down, healthcare coverage is mildly up, but will become so corrupt and mismanaged that it will help no one, or it will become so crappy that women's health will suffer. Go to any other country that tries to do what Obama has proposed and you will find crappy healthcare.
Obama has done nothing to help the middle class. Yet he calls himself the champion of the middle class. It's so ironic it's stupid, yet you all buy it.
Ana - I can't understand how Wrongme could get a single vote from a woman except his wife.
But then Trav comes along and kindly informs us that Obama has NOT been fighting for the middle class. So, that $2-3,000 per year tax cut didn't help me.
Thanks, Trav!!! I was digging the extra cash, but now I see it was a fiendishly diabolical plot!
Starderup,
Trav is stuck with Republican talking points stating that Obama has done nothing for the middle class yet we know he has done everything and much more for us. It is the Republican Tea Party that hates everything middle class and poor. They only like rich people. What is sad is that the majority of the Tea Party is middle class and will see themselves become serfs when plutocrats, like Romney, are allowed to rule the U.S.A. They won't realize they were voting against their own interests until it is too late.
tra- the repubs have been blasting the equal pay law for the last few months.
you know the one Obama signed
So God is undecided, equivocal, wishy-washy, a flip-flopper....yes, that sounds like a God Republicans would believe in.
The words spoken by so many Republican lawmakers and
their supporters are leading me to believe that they"SECRETLY" BELIEVE IN RAPE AS BEING OK. In order to change my impression of them they will need to do a LOT MORE LYING about what they say
The Doofus from Indiana has a point: his words were twisted to make it sound if he was condoning rape, which he isn't. However, he is saying that in case of rape, the resulting embryo (not fetus) takes precedence over the victim, who should pay for her victimhood by carrying the fetus to term and delivering it. I hope the baby comes gift-wrapped with a nice note from God.
One GOP Senate candidate: If it is a legitimate rape, it will not result in pregnancy as the female body has a way of shutting the whole thing down.
Another GOP senate candidate: If you get pregnant as a result of rape (legitimate I guess) it is the will of God.
Lady:
Does God want the rapist to rape you and for you to carry the rapist's child against your will? Apparently in GOP land the answer is yes. VP nominee Paul Ryan believes in legitimate rape and illegitimate rape, and Mitt Romney can't wait to make all abortions illegal by overturning Roe v Wade, he said so himself.
Travisrus,: Republican congressman, deadbeat dad Joe Walsh is a prime example of where the problem lies. He did not even show up in court for his own child support hearing. He said he was too busy making laws for the rest of us to follow.
This senator candidate is telling us something more. The entire GOP is telling us this simple construction that they believe: Simply put, God is on our side, we can read His mind, we know His/or Her intentions, the Will of God. And with God on their side, the GOP should win the election. What a confusing facist country America has become.
Women's wages have gone down? I have news for you (since you must be no more the 10 years old), wages in general have been going down or staying even for most of us since the mid to late 80s. It's called Supply-side economics and your Party loves it. So Germany, France, Sweden, Norway, Iceland, Great Britian, etc are all standing in line begging for a "for profit" Wall Street brokered healthcare system like we have?
Republicans have been pushing "trickle-down" economics for the last 30 years and they still are today. This is the war on the middle-class...and the wealthy are winning. We should suddenly count on Republicans not screwing us? really?
@ Anna,
I so agree friend. I have many women friends voting for Romney. They are single. I don't understand.
Many are young. Need the services of Planned Parenthood. Just health care. What is the issue?
This confuses me. Help me with this. I look to anyone who can explain this to me.
Rustyboy-FL: Tell those women that you care so much about them that you are voting for Obama, who is making sure that they will have opportunities for equal wages, and will help them to have healthcare for them and their families.
I can't tell you the reasons why some people vote against their best interest, but as a former rape victim, I can't begin to tell them that all women live in a WAR ZONE. We want to be a part of rational society, but for some reason, there are people out there who are predators. And for some reason, there are lawmakers who SIDE WITH THE PREDATORS. Even if these women do not believe you today, after they have lived for some more years, they will come to agree with you, because every woman, at some point, experiences something that she doesn't want to discuss with anybody, whether it is low wages, unfair expectations about her caregiving for family, or the worst, being a crime victim or knowing close friends who are crime victims. At some point, even if 30 years from now, they will thank you for being Democrat.
Elizabeth ... FR sent.
You've a story and you need to start blogging it and/or posting stories on Newsvine. I write there. It's possibly not the best outlet but it is an outlet.
Love and Blessings .....
Obama/Biden 2012
Elizabeth-1372999... Your story is truly heart wrenching! And I can identify with you, having survived being raped myself, when I was 16. The reasons why so many people vote against their best interests, is because the Republican Party have perfected their rhetoric to the voting public, a prime example is the mid-term elections of 2010, they ran on a platform of JOBS! JOBS! JOBS!, and even people who usually vote Democrat, believed the B.S., not realizing that they had absolutley NO intention of doing anything to help our President. Unfortunatley my dear, there are always going to be lawmakers who side with the predators, because they themselves are predators, all they care about is their own power and influence. And this is most especially true when it comes to crimes against women. I myself have been trying to make sense out of this attitude, for most of my life. Keep your chin up honey, there are those of us who are here for you, even though not physically, we can sure be here emotionally! My pal Layton is right, tell your story! Sometimes the best outlet is a good RANT, whether it be here or to someone you trust. Keep the faith dear! And remember there are other women out here who CARE!!!
Mourdock said:
He then says:
In other words, God abhors rape but pregnancy resulting from rape is a gift from God?
I believe that as a male who doesn't know the victim, her state of mind, or her personal circumstances I am totally unqualified to make such difficult decision.
This type of personal decision should be left to the woman, her doctor and her loved ones.
If the pregnancy resulting from the rape is a gift from God, what exactly is the rape? Why did God let that happen? Is that, too, a gift? A punishment? This is exactly why we have separation of church and state. We are all entitled to whatever (if any) religious views we choose to adopt. But we can't impose them on our fellow citizens, especially in the realm of what is a personal, private medical matter. Why does the GOP not understand this concept?
has BRAIN DEAD crossed your mind as an answer ?
And that is exactly how their minds work. Even they would agree it's stupid if their denial wasn't an issue.
Remember the words of the fabulous Mr. Clayton Williams in 1990 comparing rape to bad weather: “As long as it’s inevitable, you might as well lie back and enjoy it."
SailorGirl: There is no way to enjoy such a complete violation of one's own body and soul. Those who said that had no idea that rape is violence, not love. If it is not love, it is torture and pain, and waking up screaming for years. It is intimidation, and the intimidation goes on and on and on.
My sister is a musician who travels around the country and to other countries. In my family, I was the one with the voice and musical interest, but I have never been able to go a far distance by myself since I was raped over a quarter century ago. This has taken away possible wages for me, opportunities for my family. This has caused learning problems in my children because they couldn't trust adults. It is something that you cannot possibly understand: this has very little to do with abortion, but everything to do with intimidation. And yes, I think that the Republicans are trying to intimidate women by talking about rape.
NEVER VOTE REPUBLICAN.
Defeat From the Jaws of Victory-Senate edition
Mr Akin, meet Mr Mourdock..Mr. Mourdock meet the press..
How many Senate seats have the Republicans blown the past two election cycles at the alter of ideological purity?
5?
O'Donnell, Angle, Akin, this guy...that's 4...was there a 5th? Speaking of 5th's, wanna bet Mourdock's campaign manager has one in his blazer?
Gallup has tightened to 3 points with likely voters and the President is up by a point with registered voters.
This would seem to indicate that momentum for the challenger has stalled or shifted. For some it will mean that Gallup is no longer a reliable poll..
http://www.gallup.com/poll/150743/Obama-Romney.aspx
Let's not forget how Joe Miller almost ruined Republicans in Alaska thanks to his aides attempting to arrest a reporter for the audacity of trying to ask the candidate about his record. If it weren't for the write-in campaign by incumbent Republican Lisa Murkowski (who had lost the primary), it's possibly that the Democratic candidate might have won that seat as well.
Don't forget this one, from roll call and other sources:
Top House leaders are sticking by embattled Rep. Scott DesJarlais amid the revelation last week that the pro-life Republican doctor had encouraged a patient he slept with to have an abortion
Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and House Majority Leader Eric Cantor(R-Va.) are maintaining their support for the Tennessee Republican, according to their respective spokesmen.
We love you Mourdock...... oh yes we do, oh Mourdock we love you.
Thanks for the gift dumb a$$.
Legitimate rapists for Romney / Ryan. I will be renting a billboard.
If I don't like the poll I will assume that the creator downed a 5th before polling.
No doubt, something cheap and strong!
They all should party with Rick Santorum, who thinks the same thing.
"I believe and I think the right approach is to accept this horribly created -- in the sense of rape -- but nevertheless a gift in a very broken way, the gift of human life, and accept what God has given to you.
As you know, we have to, in lots of different aspects of our life. We have horrible things happen. I can't think of anything more horrible. But, nevertheless, we have to make the best out of a bad situation."

OK,I quit. I wont insult you anymore, only because you're literally too stupid to insult.
As for the actual topic at hand here,if anyone is tired of comparing Akin and Mourdock to try and ascertain as to which one of these troglodytes would be more likely to try and introduce a measure making the "Malleus Maleficarum" the law of the land then please search for Representative Scott DeJarlais (TeaBagger-Tennessee) to see how completely and totally full of chit these contemptible pigs are.
God abhor evil.
Rape is evil.
Holier than thou, the Talibans of our time, mind thy business and do you.
What I'm not getting is that God abhors rape, yet ultimately He permits it to happen. The more I hear, the more it confirms to me religion is nothing but a tool to create unrest and enslave people to a belief system that makes little sense.
Religion started a very long time ago to explain life's mysteries: dreams, weather, seasons, earthquakes, death, etc., back when no one could climb higher that a tree or hilltop. Now we understand those phenomena, and we've been "up there" and know there is no one floating around on clouds with harps. But religion sticks around, a big business selling folks simplicity, comfort, rituals. For the fundamentalists, all you have to do is abandon all critical thinking skills so that you can completely accept beliefs that are completely mutually incompatible.
The comments were twisted, Mourdouk? You were very clear. A woman who is raped is sentenced by you to be reminded daily of the crime because she cannot have an abortion.
You are BEYOND reprehensible.
You don't like abortion, don't have one, don't cause one to happen.
But as to the rest of it....NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS.
The Plan B pill works by not allowing the fertilized egg to adhere to the lining of a womb, but many states do not even offer it to rape victims because that would be "interferring" with God's plan.
I understand being anti-abortion, but anti-common sense?
Republican politicians also appear to be against math, facts, truth, compassion, and having core principles.
The comments may/may not have been twisted, but Mourdock's beliefs are definitely twisted.
Ain't that the truth TNSEVOL
TNSEVOL,
I resent that remark, Republicans do have core values, money moving up the ladder, never to go back down again!
tex2c - no matter who they have to step over and on, on the way up, right?
Obama/Biden 2012
This is exactly why we shouldn't have religion in politics. You get these @!$%#ing nut jobs that try to force their beliefs on me which completely contradct my beliefs. @!$%#s.
Yes, religion should not be in politics or government. Lyin Ryan stated in the vp debates that he would govern according to his religious beliefs - and shove them down everyone's throats. Separation of church and state needs to be enforced. Willard and Lyin are both religious extremists and would have ruled the nation with their extremists beliefs.
Obama/Biden 2012
What the idiot evangelical teabaggers fail to realize is that Mittsy is a Mormon and Ryan is a Catholic...both of whom feel that the "evangelical christians" are minions of the Anti-christ. If the law permitted, a Romney/Ryan regime would outlaw evangelicals even before homosexuals.
The teabaggers are too stupid to realize that the seperation of church and state not only protects non-christians, it also protects christians from each other.
Khaleeshe--- I agree completley, religion should NOT be in politics or government! But the religious right wing has made SURE that it became so, by threatening candidates, and politicians with their VOTES. You see , in the minds of these people THERE SHOULD BE NO SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE!! And Romney and Ryan WHOLEHEARTEDLY agree with this!
Whats twisted is Romney tacit approval of this candidate for political power. Romneys will not disavow support for this candidate, and that says it all
Either Romney knew this guy's beliefs and endorsed him anyway, or he endorsed him without asking if he was a nutjob.
Either way, Wrongme loses.
Willard supports Mourdock and Lyin supports Akin. That says everything about these two candidates.
Obama/Biden 2012
Suggestion for new Republican Ad:
REPUBLICANS FOR RAPE! VOTE REPUBLICAN. RAPE ANYBODY YOU WANT TO .
Then claim, GOD MADE ME DO IT!!!!!
Let us not forget that people like that little nazi Paul Ryan believe that if a woman is "legitimately" raped, her body will shut down and not allow the egg to be fertilized. If the egg is fertilized, then the rape was not "legitimate" and the fetus is a part of their god's "plan".
Any decent HUMAN that looks at this philosophy should be horrified by what these "people" truly believe. This is not just a women's issue, this is a humanitarian issue.
Some people on here really are disgusting. Shockedanddisgusted - Paul Ryan never said that. It was Akin who said it. In case you missed it, Romney and Ryan are against abortions for convenience. They are not against abortion in cases of rape, incest and if the mother's life is in jeopardy and have publicly stated that. You read too many slime stream media articles and blogs. I am disgusted and horried that the POTUS believes in late term and after birth abortions. He supports murdering babies who are ready to be born and those who are born and murdered afterward. Same for Planned Parenthood. Those are evil, vile and disgusting people. And those who have no conscience and believes as they do are no better. May you all rot in hell.
C'mon people! If you can tie the candidate to anything that anyone in their party says, then you democrat supporters better be afraid. There has been a lot of crap said by a lot people on both sides over the last year. Let's look at what is actually said by the candidate.
Of course you would rather not, because when it comes down to what each person actually stands for, what they want to do and what their abilities are, Obama comes up short every time. That's why the focus of the campaign is bashing Romney.
If you don't have a record to run on you find silly petty things to attack your opponent with. Etch a sketch, big bird, horses and bayonets. You are proving to everyone that Obama has no record! Your candidate said it, your candidate is doing it.
Romney appeared in an ad offering a personal endorsement of Mourdock - per the article:
No attempt to "tie the candidate to anything that anyone in their party says" required.
Travisaurus - might want to calm down a little. Romney endorsed this creep!
Obama/Biden 2012
Not only did Romney endorse him, but after the remarks are made, Romney doesn't withdraw his endorsement or ask that the ad not be run. So he doubles down on an endorsement of this guy after he makes this kind of statement.
Willard has the same beliefs as Mourdock - otherwise he would not support him.
T - your argument is pure crap!!! Want to make sure that I was being exact so you don't misinterpret my opinion. Facts are a B!tch aren't they???
Fact - Ryan and Akin support and supported joint legilation that prevents abortion even in cases of incest, rape and health of the mother. Period!!!
Fact - Ryan was picked by Romney to be his VP. Period
Fact - Romney therefore approves of Ryan's opinion and convictions otherwise he would not picked him for VP. Period
Fact - Ryan would replace Romney lord forbid he was President and something happened to Romney. Meaning it would now be a Ryan Administration and we will then revert back to the above FACT.
Very scary that any man believes he has the right to "Dictate" or "Legislate" Women's medical health issues or women's freedom. Period.
Not to late Women - vote to protect your health, your daughters health, your granddaughter health and all your FREEDOMS. Vote Obama... Period
I say let's get this goatroper's daughter raped by a gangsta punk and see if he changes his opinion
It's the same old, same old - if you don't agree with the Dems, Libs, Progressives or whatever else they call themselves these days, then you're against women. In other words, to the Dems it's our way or the highway. A Gallup Poll on 5/23/2012, taken in a cross section of over 1032 American voters, showed 51% of Americans are Pro-Life. And 51% consider abortion as morally wrong. Only 20% of Americans believe all abortions should be legal - which is the position of Obama and Planned Parenthood. By all abortions that means late term and after birth which is the same as Infanticide. Those of us who do not believe that all abortions should be legal do not believe in murdering innocent unborn babies as a matter of convenience. Mr. Mourdock says he struggled with his conscience and his beliefs and, therefore, was truthful about his convictions. He did not lie to the voters. For that, and for standing up for his moral convictions, he should be commended not condemned. And Mitt Romney should also be commended for not trying to dissuade Mourdock and for standing behind him. Anyone who has a conscience and a soul would do the same.
NEWS FLASH TRAV!!-- Mitt Romney made an add endorsing Mourdock, and made several campaign speeches for him as well!! So you see we're not "TYING" Mitt to what "anyone in his party said" he IS tied to what Mr. Mourdock said! He ENDORSED him for Senate, "Let's work on getting this man to Washington!", words out of Mitt's OWN MOUTH!!!
Okay Mr. Mourdock, I understand that you are challenged when it comes to empathy, so I'm going to see if I can help you understand this.
I know that you did not mean to imply that God wants any woman to be raped. You meant that if a woman is raped and becomes pregnant, the pregnancy is part of God's plan. Now, we've got that straight.
So here is God's plan for you:
You are to be raped anally and forced to perform fellatio on your rapist. A video will be taken with lots of close-ups.
For nine months after your rape, it is your job to constantly work with this video, editing it for higher quality and better close-ups of every action and reaction. You will perform this job day after day and night after night for nine months. Every moment of your rape will be replayed a hundred times a day.
Then, after nine months, you will endure incredible pain and risk your life to publish this video for all the world to see. You will set up projectors in every room of your house and they will play the video constantly, day and night, night and day. The video will run on a DVD player in your car. You will invite people over to watch the video and celebrate every year on the anniversary of your rape. You will spend hundreds of thousands of dollars over the next 20 years maintaining the video. And your spouse will share in all of these experiences with you. This is God's plan for your life. I say so, and trust me, it goes from God's lips to my ears and out of my mouth to the law books.
Ain't it wonderful?
What's scary is that these are the type of candidates that are giving sane candidates their run for the money. What is happening with this country? While other nations emulate our democracy to advance rights for all their people, we regress to the dark ages. Scary!!!
I hear you, sometimes I wonder what's in the drinking water! That ANY self respecting woman would actually vote Repub. is astounding to me. Just because your mommy and daddy vote(d) Repub., doesn't give you the excuse of NOT thinking about your political candidates and because your husband TELLS you how to vote, doesn't mean you HAVE to. He'll never know how you vote.
VERY VERY SCARY. It's about education. Those with power are against education for those without that power. I see it as deliberate.
I guess the Republican creed is life begins at rape and ends at birth.
That is so funny Larry I think I have fallen in love and without even seeing you. LOL
That is so funny Larry I think I have fallen in love and without even seeing you. LOL
Slimy. Just like the rest of his Party. Mitt endorsed this guy WITH CONFIDENCE!

Obama Biden 2012
Again - WOMEN on when are you going to realize that the GOP does not have your best interest?; what will it take for you to wake up?; what else do you need to hear?; and Romney endorsed this person!; since when is "rape" a gift from GOD??
jneal, your post was totally worthy of being in a big, bold font! Good job!
Obama/Biden 2012
Again! When are liberals going to understand that Obama, Biden, Pelosi, and Reid are lying sacks of dung?
Jneal: the GOP has nobodies best interest. They will even screw themselves.
4 more 4 44
Tammy - way to weigh in on such an important topic that effects you directly if you are indeed a woman by your name??? Any other Freedoms you want to give up to your Republican Party????
VOTE OBAMA
I'll vote for someone who lies some of the time before I vote for someone who lies all the time.
Have you forgotten that God is a Republican? Probably Mormon or Catholic. And only MEN are allowed to speak for God? Big memory lapse on our part.
Women: Be very careful with your vote! Republicans have tried to tell us how extreme their views are. If we don't listen, then I guess we get what we deserve.
Wrongme must be facepalming this morning. The last thing he wanted to remind women of was that Paul Ryan ALSO opposes abortions under any circumstances, including rape.
But then, seeing that Wrongme has a Clint Eastwood commercial starting to run this week, I may have severely overestimated the intelligence of the career campaigner.
Lyin Ryan also said in the vp debates that he would have ruled by his religious beliefs. Separation of church and state definitely needs to be enforced.
Obama/Biden 2012
Republicans for Rape! Vote Republican. Elect more old men who want to be rapists.
It's time at last to have the Rapist Party in control.
I have only one word for this GOP Seante candidate: IDIOT!
Yeah, right, now that he has heard the outrage, the story turns again. Don't believe it. These guys want to tell women what to do, keep them barefoot and pregnant and doing as they say.
If his daughter or wife were raped and became pregnant, I doubt he would feel it was a gift from God! The story would suddenly change..... AGAIN!
Actually, that a democrat tactic. Why else give women more welfare for having more babies when they won't even say who the daddy is?
Tammy - you are indeed one of the uneducated masses that blindly follow any pile of $h!t. Way to be a compassionate conservative - let the baby starve to death right what do you care as long as it is born right???
It's because of people like "tammy" that Hitler was able to kill millions of Jews. It is because of people like "tammy" that Jim Jones was able to convince people to give their children poisoned Kool-aid. It is because of people like "tammy" that Charles Manson was able to convince others to commit heinous murders for him. Thoughtless.
A woman that would throw her support behind a man that declares that rape is a part of his god's plan is, at best, brainwashed...at worst, self-loathing. It is the duty of all free thinking Americans to take careful note of who people like "tammy" support and to keep those evil people as far away from our government as possible. By the same accord, it is our responsibility to know that if someone like "tammy" names someone "she" hates, that person is most likely the freedom loving patriot that this country needs.
So by this logic it's a waste of time and money to prosecute criminals - after all, they were only doing as God intended. So aren't the candidates wasting millions of dollars campaigning when God will decide who will be elected? I don't get these religious nuts who take no responsibility for self determination. I guess we are all just puppets doing what God plans. Wait, I think God is telling me to go out and steal a Jaguar...
The only thing twisted in this event is the candidate himself, what he said was very deliberate which made the meaning of his statement very clear and unmistakable. Everyone got the meaning and gist and now Murdock is saying that everyone misunderstood what he said. Now that he's trying to climb out of that teabagger cesspool of hate and ignorance it's too late. Then comes Mittens the mindless with an ad supporting this moron's positions including this one saying rape has the stamp of approval by god. These communist teabagger repugs unceasing cases of hate and ignorance and total stupidity will never end as long as the communist teabaggers are allowed to exist
Legitimate Rapists for Romney / Ryan ! What a country!!!!!!!!!
"I am a much more humble person this morning. Because so many people mistook, twisted, came to misunderstand the points that I was trying to make,"
No, Mourdock, what you are is a liar and a very ignorant man who got caught just as Robme got caught saying the 47% at the bottom of the economic ladder do not take responsibility for their lives. The point you were trying to make is that you want the Tbag idiots to support you.
Fess up like a man.
Anyplace but the land of that mindless running mate to George Sr, your political career would be over.
The Mad Hatter strikes back. This was his Tea Party in the first place.
The Mad Hatter or The Mad Haters?
I can see it now....
The Tea Party, brought to you by The Mad Haters.
You heard him: his god endorses raping and so does he.
Come on people, wake up. The GOP is the same kind of stupid as the idiots running Iran. Religious wackos should not be in government.
God is great isn't he? Our politicians siting the will of some magic man in the sky is embarrassing. I can't believe we still have to put up with this crap in this day and age. Religion has been used to control the masses since way before the earth was still flat. The small percentage of good that does come from religion is still based on lies and fairy tales...Get this crap out of my country!
Oh my hell people! Romney did not endorse this guy after he said all of this stuff! You're twisting it and you know it! That is what slimy is! Should we look at everything that has been said by people endorsed by Obama? Should we go back to Jeremiah Wright and the likes?
If you think the democrats have your interests in mind, ask yourself what areas of your life have improved under Obama. How is it easier to be a woman now than it was 4 years ago? Is it? It's NOT! Because Obama doesn't know what he is doing! Quit ignoring the obvious.
President Obama did not endorse Jeremiah Wright for public office.
Get your facts straight.
If they had their collective facts straight this would be a democratic party controlled country....Completely.
We have a right and left in the democratic party...The GOP is an extreme right party...
Half of the country is either extreme right or duped into believing they are,,
bs- romney camp said today they STILL support and endorse him
Willard supports Mourdock - that's what he said.
Yes, my life IS better now than 4 years ago. Next question?
Travisaurus - you sir are an idiot (Plain enough????)
Obamacare - provides free birth control to women, Mammograms, cancer screen (Women's Heath)
Supports Far Pay Act (Women's Financial & Job Security)
Obama supports student loans for everyone that wants to attend college. (Women's Education)
Those are the easy one's - keep leaving in your cave like Romney/Ryan
Move Forward with Obama -
I went from unempolyed to closing on a house. My life has improved quite a bit, thanks.
Liar. Liar.
Four years ago the Dow was nearing 6,000, we were loosing 8000,000 jobs EACH MONTH, banks were collapsing, the US auto industry was near collapse, the dollar was loosing value, homes were dropping 50% of their value. People were scared that breadlines would be forming soon...
So yeah, just about everyone is better off now. It was a virtual economic apocalypse.
Are you mormon, "travis"? The only people I know that say silly things like that are mormon's pretending "not to swear".
"travis" - you do realize that the article being commented on is about a candidate in Indiana, don't you? Of course you do. Do you also realize that your willing attempt to deflect from the topic makes you complicit in the belief that rape is a part of your "god's" plan?
So, tell us, "travis"...if you beat the woman before you rape her, do you score extra points with your "god"? What do you see when you look in the mirror, "travis"?...adding the "saurus" to you name means that it must be pretty prehistoric...
Why is any candidate for elected office saying he knows what is and isn't God's will? If he's that close to God and God's plan why isn't he hanging on a cross someplace? I'm not all that familiar with the novel "The Bible" but I'm pretty sure Jesus didn't run for public office.
And why does Mitt Romney need a 'Mitt stabilizer' (Anne and her 5 boys agree)? What is wrong with him? Does he have ADD? Should he be allowed to get anywhere near that button?
Just sayin
This is an insult to rape victims all of over the world. As a victim I don't like being told that I have to carry a child because of what a man did to me. If I was forced to keep a child like this is not far and that man is not stuck with the out come of the rape. They also don't help raise or pay for the child. Why should women be force to look at that child and have a reminder like that when they already have have to learn how to live each day. These women already have a to learn how not to fear men but to have a child from it makes it harder. I am amazed that these men can tell me that I have to carry this child because I was raped. I wished that these men carried childern for nines and had to live through what we do.
Life begins at the fertilization of an egg no matter how it occurs. If you take the time to read and listen to his comments before proclaiming he said something different does not address what he said. That conception in his mind is an act of god, a miracle. If its your teenage daughter, a weeknight afair with a
co worker or a night during the wrong time of the month with your sperm donor, conception occurs. This is what occurs when sperm says hello to an egg. Unless your scientists can prove the rest of the medical community wrong about how this occurs. More important things are occuring.
On September 12th, a descriptin of events was available to the world from a Libyan who arrived and eventiually transported are personnel to safety.
Reuters reported that security personnel at the consulate on that day said the attackers on the consulate spoke a dialect and wore clothng not of that region, they were at the consulate to kill or capture Stevens.
This attack was known immediately as testified to at congressional herarings broadcast to the world. President Obama, was informed of this attack at or around 5 p.m. after the first attatck had occurred. He got his beauty rest then went to Las Vegas to spend quality time with Hollywood as Stevens laid dieing in a smoke filled room only to be found by people who cared about him. The Lybians who he cared deeply about.
Then 2 ex seals showed up, why or by whoms arequest is unknown. They are true soldiers, trained to care living by a motto of leave no one behnd They died in the second attack, 6 hours after the first attack while are military was ordered to do what, certainly not sent on a rescue mission.
This is worse than watergate so vote for O/Bi. If he wins, Pelosi will make a great president when O/Bi Clinton, and Patraus are charged with high crimes and treason.
Well now we have "legitimate" rape, AND "Godly" rape....JLMFAO.
Just say what your really thinking neo-con nutz, LET YOUR WOMEN BE SILENT IN CHURCH! (and everywhere else)
Bottom line: the flat-earther neo-nutcases want it to be 1900 again. Keep dreaming.........................................
Ok, but what about 'Legitimate Godly Rape'? That sounds like it would be ok.
Legimate & Godly rape but by God you're not going to get an abortion!
Obama/Biden 2012
These backward right wing candidates try to hide what they really think. Do you want Todd Akin of Missouri and Richard Mourdock of Indiana MAKING YOUR HEALTHCARE CHOICES?
The last, and only slightly less well known of the classic blunders is - Never go in against a conservative when ignorance is on the line!
M. Carlson - These backward right wing candidates try to hide what they really think. Do you want Todd Akin of Missouri and Richard Mourdock of Indiana MAKING YOUR HEALTHCARE CHOICES?
That's the same as saying do you want Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan making your healthcare choices?
No - I most definitely do not.
Obama/Biden 2012
Since it was intended by God, they really should have to get married too. Sure he raped you, but hey, after dinner and a movie - you might discover that you really like the guy!
I'm a Republican, and I approve this message.
Oh, hell yourself, Travis.
If Romney was President, women would have fewer health care options due to defunding of PP. Women would be unable to obtain abortions under any circumstances, because he would sign a law outlawing all abortions. He said he'd be "delighted" to do so, and his running mate is solidly against all abortions for any reason at all. His running mate co-sponsored legislation with Todd Akin to redefine rape.
Romney still can't figure out if he is for or against the Lilly Ledbetter Act.
Women at least have a fair shot with Obama as President. With Romney/Ryan and any downticket wins by guys like Mourdock, women's rights will recede.
