Obama jokes about 'Romnesia' in car country

DAYTON, Ohio – Taking his campaign into car country, President Barack Obama touted his from-the-start support of the auto industry bailout, contrasting it with what he said was Mitt Romney’s shifting position on the issue.

Highlighting what is a popular topic in this swing state, where one in eight jobs is tied to the auto industry, Obama joked that his Republican opponent had “Romnesia” in Monday night’s debate when he said he would have helped car companies avoid bankruptcy during the 2009 auto crisis.

“If you said that you love American cars during a debate, you’re a car guy – but you wrote an op-ed titled, ‘Let Detroit Go Bankrupt’ – you definitely have a case of Romnesia,” Obama said as he spoke to a crowd of 9,500 at a public park here.

Seeking to characterize his opponent as untrustworthy, Obama said, “Last night Gov. Romney looked you right in the eye, looked me in the eye, tried to pretend that he’d never said, ‘Let Detroit go bankrupt.’ Tried to pretend he meant the same thing I did when we intervened and worked to make sure management and workers got together to save the U.S. auto industry.”

“Pretended like somehow I had taken his advice,” Obama said.

But, he continued, “People don’t forget. The people of Dayton don’t forget. The people of Ohio don’t forget,” he said.

The president returned to the White House after his Dayton event; he heads Wednesday to Davenport, Iowa where he kicks off another two days full of campaign events.

Is it Obamnesia then to forget you said you would close GITMO and cut the deficit in half? That you would work with Congress and bring Americans together? That you would put Americans back to work, keep lobbyists out of the White House? Be the change we believed in? Just pretend your own positions haven't played a little Twister in the last 4 years, Obama. We will remind you.

I don't understand why Obama doesn't just run on his record and agenda for the next 4 years. This blaming and name calling strategy really turns me off on this election. Wish we had someone who actually acted presidential for a change.

Outside of the fact that our great special forces got OBL (any President would have said yes, and without discussion), everything else he has "done" has gone against the will of the majority of American people.

Kind of hard to tout your "accomplishments" when a majority of Americans did not want them, isn't it?

      He has a record?!?!

Is it an LP, or a 45??

Can't be a "policy record", because all's he done has either issued executive orders, or had a readilly compliant legislature full of like-minded lackies........

He was on the golf course after 2010 when the going got really tough!!

              13 days. Tuesday, Nov. 6th.

Unless you live in Maricopa County, AZ and speak Spanish.

              http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2222641/Maricopa-County-officials-tell-Spanish-speakers-wrong-date-election-second-time.html?ito=feeds-newsxml

Officials in Phoenix are being accused of deliberately discouraging Latinos from voting after distributing Spanish-language forms listing the wrong date for the presidential election.

A bookmark designed to encourage voter registration has been distributed around Arizona's Maricopa County, showing the correct election date in English but a date two days later in Spanish.

This is the second time in two weeks that the same mistake has been made, prompting accusations that authorities are hoping to confuse Hispanic voters and stop them casting their ballots.

No they'e not! Everyone knows Republicans vote on November 6th, and democrats vote on November 7th.

It prevents problems at the polling stations, and eliminates lines!!!

So flip flopney said "let Detroit go bankrupt"...in the same breath as "we can't pick winners and losers"

But when he obviouly meant let the auto industry die, he gets romnesia and shakes his etch a sketch and changes his position.

No wonder he had 35% approval rating and decided not to run for reelection in Mass.

Dows up 100% since Obama took over the worst economic disaster in 80 years.

It took unemployment 12 years to get below 8% after the last GOP economic disaster.

What's flip flopney's plan to to create jobs faster?

Deficit busting tax breaks for the rich..

                      hahahhahahahahahahahhahahahahahhahaha

Sorry, been there, done that.....didn't work then, won't work now

When was the last time a presidential candidate lost his home state but won the election?

I just decided Google was my friend and checked. Nixon lost New York and won in 1968. Woodrow Wilson lost New Jersey and won in 1916. Finally, James Polk lost Tennessee but won the election in 1844. Not a great record for Romney.

                        #324.3 - Wed Oct 24, 2012 4:50 PM EDT

Even Warren Buffett, Oblamo's friend is predicting a double-dip recession. I mean, if Obama wanted to raise taxes, he had 4 opportunities to let the Bush tax cuts expire,,,,,,but he extended them,,,,,4 TIMES!!

Don't you think this man is just a bit disingenious when he talks about more revenue, byut doesn't have the balls to make it happen??

Again,,,,he's been president for FOUR STINKING YEARS and nothing has gotten better!!

When has an incumbent president ever won a reelection bid when unemployment levels are at 7.8%?

So obviously you aren't successful enough to own stocks or even smart enough to know the Dow has doubled under Obama.

You obviously aren't smart enough to know that Obama wanted to let the tax cuts expire on the top 1% but the GOP threatened filibustered.

You are the 47% flip flopney calls freeloaders, he dispises you

I hope that everyone is doing well today because the President's stimulus plan worked so well and employment is no longer a problem.

The President should also talk about Obamanesia, his tendency to say things that sound good at the time but turn out to be nothing but bs.

Then there is Obamanomics which is a form of fantasy economics or in other words impossible economics.

The Obama campaign has finally, the day after the debates, come up with the President's economic plan for the next 4 years. The plan is devoid of detail and budgetary information but is full of wishful thinking. Obamanomics is really impossiblenomics. This is one of the parts that I like the best"

Do some nation-building here at home: We’ll use half the savings from ending the war in Afghanistan to help pay down our debt and invest the rest in fixing our roads, runways, bridges, and schools.
End overseas wars and rebuild our economy. After responsibly ending overseas operations, the President will reinvest in our country by:

                              • Committing half of the money saved from responsibly ending overseas operations in Iraq and Afghanistan to reducing the deficit and the other half to investing in public infrastructure.
                              • Investing an additional $210 billion over six years to support a million jobs improving America’s roads, bridges, transit systems, railways, aviation systems and runways, and putting construction workers back to work.

Four years ago, without conditions of any kind to include any act of congress, the President promised that the 2012 federal deficit would not exceed 229.27 billion dollars yet in fact it exceeded 1.1 trillion dollars. That says a lot for the President's fiscal planning and sense of budget. For the past 4 years the President has been proposing a tax increase on the "rich" that congress has yet to pass. This increase in taxes would at most divert 100 billion dollars per year from the private sector to the public sector. The federal government has been trying to spark the economy by injecting more money. This move will have the opposite effect and will do little to solve our debt problem. so using 2012 figures the federal government will still have a trillion dollar debt to deal with.

According to the President's nomination acceptance speech, the troops will be coming home in 2014 so by 2015 the peace dividend will be in full effect. According to the President's plan, he is expecting to net more than 2 trillion dollars per year by bringing the troops home. It will take at least 1 trillion dollars to balance the budget and of course that has to be done before we can start running a surplus. Balancing the budget is done with just half of the peace dividend. That is why the peace dividend will have to be greater than 2 trillion dollars per year. So the President is claiming that we are spending more than two trillion dollars per year on the war on Afghanistan which is less than true. If the federal government cut out all defense spending that then cut the rest of the budget in half it would not generate the required savings. The President's plan is fantasy economics. The President's plan is mathematically impossible. It is the President who needs more math education.

Mr. Romney is not to be trusted by anyone, left or right.

One thing he's been consistent on is picking and then standing by extremists/rape apologists like Paul Ryan and Richard Mourdock, the Republican senatorial candidate who believes a pregnancy from rape is a gift from God. If elected he's certain to appoint Supreme Court justices who will roll back women's rights to the Stone Age.
