DAYTON, Ohio – Taking his campaign into car country, President Barack Obama touted his from-the-start support of the auto industry bailout, contrasting it with what he said was Mitt Romney’s shifting position on the issue.
Highlighting what is a popular topic in this swing state, where one in eight jobs is tied to the auto industry, Obama joked that his Republican opponent had “Romnesia” in Monday night’s debate when he said he would have helped car companies avoid bankruptcy during the 2009 auto crisis.
“If you said that you love American cars during a debate, you’re a car guy – but you wrote an op-ed titled, ‘Let Detroit Go Bankrupt’ – you definitely have a case of Romnesia,” Obama said as he spoke to a crowd of 9,500 at a public park here.
Seeking to characterize his opponent as untrustworthy, Obama said, “Last night Gov. Romney looked you right in the eye, looked me in the eye, tried to pretend that he’d never said, ‘Let Detroit go bankrupt.’ Tried to pretend he meant the same thing I did when we intervened and worked to make sure management and workers got together to save the U.S. auto industry.”
“Pretended like somehow I had taken his advice,” Obama said.
But, he continued, “People don’t forget. The people of Dayton don’t forget. The people of Ohio don’t forget,” he said.
The president returned to the White House after his Dayton event; he heads Wednesday to Davenport, Iowa where he kicks off another two days full of campaign events.

With a dismal record, what can you talk about other than ROMNESIA. Sad thing is, a lot of folks continue to fall for this failed president's rhetoric.
With each passing day, it's quite evident that we deserve the "mess" we have for electing someone that is a complete failure. We made a big mistake 4 years ago and we must not let that happen in November.
We are not accepting the record argument until you include all of the republican obstructionism that helped Obama's record to be so dismal. And that the republicans sacrificed helping the american people to make Obama a one term president. Also that the republicans were to sacrifice our economy to achieve their selfish goals, Instead of working together try to make for a better American. Who are the real traitors here?
Obama's first election could be compared to the marketing program of a prototype automobile that gets a whole bunch of hype, but is not yet available for a test drive. The initial offering results in a huge number of pre-sales. Everyone wants to get in on the action. They want to be a part of the "cool" crowd and the first on their block to have that revolutionary new car. What happens when the new prototype car is delivered and the public finds out it only makes left turns and the wheels fall off of it soon after the break-in period. The maintenance cost is sky high and the warranty is non-existant. That is what Obama will face in this election. An electorate that no longer has to listen to the hype and can look at the results of the test drive. The Obama experiment has proven to be a dismal failure. When it comes to hype and hyperbole versus performance and effectiveness Obama is the "segway" of presidential history.
President Obama saved my son's job, and I intend to try to save his job,...by voting for President Obama.
Mitt Romney on the other hand bought a company my brother worked at for 26 years and a year later fired all of them and closed the plant.
Keep that in mind on November 6th,.....let's keep Romney unemployed for the next four years.

The issue at hand is is not where we have been it is where are we going.
Not one president has delivered all they have promised, and many have even broke them. Obama did not lie, what he did was try. We have been mired in the mud for quite sometime, now the rubber has finally hit the road and I see progress on the horizon.
Vote Romney and you will give big corporations more tax breaks. Vote Romney and we will lose the respect we have regained from the world in the past four years. Vote Romney and your health care will be much harder to attain. Vote Romney and you will turn back the hands of time. Romney is not for the little guy.
The coal permits that Obama stopped(that Romney chastised him for) would have contaminated a whole communities water system , with "top mountain drilling", Obama trumped big business for community . Romney would trump community for big business.He has before.
I would rather give Obama a second chance with the outlook I see now, than take a chance with Romney , and Lyin Ryan, and lose the momentum we have now and start over. The economy is improving, terrorist leaders are being taken out at a steady fast rate. Democracy is taking hold in the ME. World leaders respect and take Obama seriously. We are the number one manufacturer in the world,Mitt was wrong we still lead China by 13%.
The way to go is forward. Even at our worst, we are still the best. This noone can deny.

- nearly 20 anti-American protests and attacks, primarily from Islamic and terrorist organizations in the last 5 weeks
- Why Obama needs to secretly tell Putin he'll have more "flexibility" after the election (American interests should be consistent regardless of an election)
- Why the unemployment rate is not 5.4% as was projected when Obama's plan was approved in 2009
- Why our national debt is now 60% higher than when Obama took office and yet the economy continues to creep along and the drop in our labor participation rate is the only thing that makes the unemployment rate seem roughly the same as when he was elected
- Why the Democratically controlled senate has not passed a real budget since Mr. Obama was elected (and why Obama's budget proposals in that time have received a grand total of ZERO votes, even from members of the Democratic party)
The buck stops at the top and he can't even admit it.

This has been going on before Obama and will be going on after Obama. The Arab spring countries begged our help and we gave it to them despite their prior ignorance or "hate" of the west. This is called tact. Obama statement was a fair one. The Bush years had pissed the Russians off. Obama was laying groundwork for the future/. The Russians are not our enemy, and sticking missiles right on their border was not a good idea. Even from a defensive stance.One does not blow off publicly as Romney has done with the Chinese. These things are handled behind closed doors, so a country does not lose face. This has been the way for many moons.
Romney was obvioulsy told by his advisors over the past week to tone it down. This was painfully obvious at the last debate.
Well we had a lot to pay for when Obama came into office. Americans out of work needed to eat and survive, two wars going on, unemployment at an all time high. The deficit was already at 1.3 trillion anually when Obama came into office with a predicted rise of 8 trillion over the next decade, regardless of Obama. Over 207 billion has been shaved off the deficit in the past year.

The unemployment rate is actually 7.4% , automation and offshoring jobs has kept the rate high, neither candidate will stop either.
Obama will keep us moving forward. Romney will turn the clock back.
It's coming down to the choice between a man who spent his career working with financially challenged companies (sometimes closing them, sometimes slimming them down to a size that they could succeed at and sometimes turning them completely around) versus a man who has spent the better part of the last 4 years failing to fix a financially struggling country and telling us that it isn't his fault.
The things that the current POTUS has succeeded in achieving in the last 4 years are:
- Leading us to the most partisanly-divided government in our history with the exception of right before the Civil War
- Overstepping the powers granted to the office of POTUS by refusing to faithfully enforce and execute US laws that he disagrees with, making execptions to laws for friends and supporters that are not available to others, unilaterally re-writing existing laws from the Executive Branch when it is the exclusive power of the Legislative Branch to do so, and completely ignoring 200+ years of US bankruptcy laws to steal the ownership stake of the automakers from the rightful owners and transfer it to his supporters in the UAW.
America can survive incompetence and ineptness. But America cannot survive a POTUS who undermines the rule of law and the Constitution. The founders deliberately did NOT vest supreme authority in 1 person, but Mr. Obama (the Constitutional lecturer) doesn't seem to care.
Romney is no gem, but at least you can count on the fact that he knows his way around a balance sheet AND he will not ignore/break our laws or do things that are in violation of our Constitution.
A vote for Obama is like playing Russian Roulette for our country with all of the chambers of the gun loaded with hollow-points. Think very carefully, as if you re-elect him the next law he chooses to ignore/exempt people from/re-write may be one that actually matters to you.
None of our rights should be at the whim and pleasure of a single person!

What I don't understand is why is everyone giving Obama credit for something Bush started? Bush started the auto bailouts not Obama. Romney wanted a managed bankruptcy and he was right it needed it. Love how no one gives Bush the credit he deserves.

I'm amazed at how many people are Obama Drones. Two minutes of effort online proves that Obama lied in the debate and at the rally described in this article. Romney wrote in his op-ed exactly what he said in last nights debate. To be clear, Obama is lying and Romney spoke the truth. It was printed in the New York Times on Nov 18, 2008. Looking at what he wrote then and what he said last night you see an exact correlation. Here is a copy of the discussed paragraph from the 2008 article:
"The American auto industry is vital to our national interest as an employer and as a hub for manufacturing. A managed bankruptcy may be the only path to the fundamental restructuring the industry needs. It would permit the companies to shed excess labor, pension and real estate costs. The federal government should provide guarantees for post-bankruptcy financing and assure car buyers that their warranties are not at risk."
The facts show that Obama lied in the debate and in his speech today yet so many comments here buy into Obama's narrative and act like it is fact. If Obama is lying so blatantly about this I can't trust the other things he says about Romney. When I see Romney speak and look at what he has done in his life it really doesn't match the picture that Obama paints, which indicates to me that the rest of the picture he paints is as false as this lie. I may not like everything I see in Romney, but I know I really don't appreciate Obama treating me like a fool. And I'm not impressed with the fools who are blindly believing his narrative.

Obama said during the debate that Romney never said that "the government should provide guarantees for post-bankruptcy financing." He called Romney a liar when Romney said that he did. It is in black and white in the very article that Obama quoted, which I quoted above.
To say that Obama never told one lie shows true ignorance. Especially in response to a clear explanation of a blatant lie. I'm not saying Romney is faultless, just that in this case Obama is clearly wrong.

Obama lied about the Benghazi attacks. Evidence now proves that the whitehouse knew while the attacks were happening that it was an al-Qaeda linked group. He lied to everyone during the debate and for weeks afterward.

He didn't kill one million Iraqi citizens. I don't know that he bombed other than four days against military targets in 1998. The one million number is way inflated. At any rate, that does not change my point at all, does it? If you are right, it would reinforce my point.

Bain Capitol would invest in a Co load it with debt, then walk away with millions, while workers lost jobs, all their benefits including pensions. Many Co's were outsourced to China.
Romney behind closed doors with fellow millionaires, is how he views us all, not just the 47%.
Romney supported the war in Vietnam, even counter protested for the War, he supported the war so much that he ran off to France to live in the lap of luxury, there are pictures of him on a beach on the French Riviera, doing his "mission" work for the Mormon Church.

Has President Obama been perfect no, but we are moving forward and more tax cut's and deregulation hasn't worked in the past, won't work now.

I don't think you understand how venture capitalists work. They invest in struggling companies who are probably going under then turn them around into a profitable one. They then sell the company and make a profit. To say that they saddle them with debt and then resell, doesnt make much sense financially. Fox has obtained a set of internal emails which declare that the group Ansar al Sharia claimed responsibility of the attack in Benghazi virtually as the raid played out on September 11th.
Ansar al Sharia has been declared by the State Department to be a an al Qaeda affiliated group. The emails were sent by the State Department to across a variety of redacted national security platforms including the White House Situation room, the Pentagon, the FBI, the Director of National Intelligence and the State Department. Fox is told that approximately 300-400 national security figures received these emails in real time almost as the raid was playing out and concluding. Fox is told that figures directly receiving these emails work directly underneath the nation’s top national security, military and diplomatic officials.
The first email indicates that Ambassador Chris Stevens and other personnel were “in the compound safe haven.”
The timestamps on the emails are all eastern time and often include the subheading SBU…which is shorthand for “Sensitive But Unclassified.”
The redacted email address @nss.eop.gov is the White House Situation address. The email address extension @dni.gov is the an extension that goes to figures working under the Director of National Intelligence.
The first email was sent at 4:05 pm et with the subject line “U.S. Diplomatic Mission in Benghazi Under Attack (SBU).”
It goes on to say “The Regional Security Officer reports the diplomatic mission is under attack. Embassy Tripoli reports approximately 20 armed people fired shots; explosions have been heard as well. Ambassador Stevens, who is currently in Benghazi, and four COM personnel are in the compound safe haven. The 17th of February militia is providing security support.
The operations Center will provide updates as available.”
The second email came at 4:54 pm.
The subject line is “Update 1: U.S. Diplomatic Mission in Benghazi (SBU)
“(SBU) Embassy Tripoli reports the firing at the U.S. Diplomatic Mission in Benghazi has stopped and the compound has been cleared. A response team is on site attempting to locate COM personnel.”
The third email came at 6:07 pm and was sent to a different email list, but still includes the White House Situation room address.
This email contains the key subject line that reads “Update 2: Ansar al-Sharia Claims Responsibility for Benghazi Attack (SBU).”
This is the link to the al Qaeda-affiliated organization.
The email is described as “Yellow Category.”
Here is the rest of the email:
“(SBU) Embassy Tripoli reports the group claimed responsibility on Facebook and Twitter and has called for an attack on Embassy Tripoli.”
