Obama jokes about 'Romnesia' in car country

DAYTON, Ohio – Taking his campaign into car country, President Barack Obama touted his from-the-start support of the auto industry bailout, contrasting it with what he said was Mitt Romney’s shifting position on the issue.

Highlighting what is a popular topic in this swing state, where one in eight jobs is tied to the auto industry, Obama joked that his Republican opponent had “Romnesia” in Monday night’s debate when he said he would have helped car companies avoid bankruptcy during the 2009 auto crisis.

“If you said that you love American cars during a debate, you’re a car guy – but you wrote an op-ed titled, ‘Let Detroit Go Bankrupt’ – you definitely have a case of Romnesia,” Obama said as he spoke to a crowd of 9,500 at a public park here.

Seeking to characterize his opponent as untrustworthy, Obama said, “Last night Gov. Romney looked you right in the eye, looked me in the eye, tried to pretend that he’d never said, ‘Let Detroit go bankrupt.’ Tried to pretend he meant the same thing I did when we intervened and worked to make sure management and workers got together to save the U.S. auto industry.”

“Pretended like somehow I had taken his advice,” Obama said.

But, he continued, “People don’t forget. The people of Dayton don’t forget. The people of Ohio don’t forget,” he said.

The president returned to the White House after his Dayton event; he heads Wednesday to Davenport, Iowa where he kicks off another two days full of campaign events.

I don't even think Romnesia fits the bill here... the guy's a shape shifter... you don't know what you get... is this how he'll negotiate with Foreign leaders?

He is simply very dishonest... I didn't like Bush that much, but Romney is absolutely outrageous... I can't even begin to discuss his numerous lies. Yesterday about the Auto bail-out, FACT: GM and Chrysler would not be around today...

it's one thing to tack to the middle during the general election, it's another thing to completely become the opposite of the person you've been the last 5yrs... judging by the polls, some American's are actually buying that this is normal. It is not normal, and its been disingenous at its finest.

The thing that is truly scary (or would be if there was still a chance Willard & Lyin Ryan could win) is the REAL REASON we are seeing Willard lie & flip-flop:

Remember that guy who, a few months ago, said all the Repub's needed was someone to stick in the White House who had enough working digits to sign into law, the Repub agenda . . . all the Bush/Cheney/neo-con stuff (~75% of Willard's adviser's are Bush/Cheney admin left-overs)???

These guys don't care what Willard says now - he says anything to the public that he thinks that crowd wants to hear, hoping you're not paying attention to the lies/flip-flops/what he said a few days (or a few hours) ago . . . . in private he scorns the 47% and tells the Bush/Cheney guys not to worry, he'll sign anything they want IF he's elected.

DON'T BE FOOLED, AMERICANS! SHOW YOU ARE NOT A LOW-INFORMATION 47% VOTER!

VOTE O & JOE! 4 MORE, FORWARD! :-)

elliot-3020456, Stop posting the same nonsense again and again.

Now back to Romney, the man has taken many avatars (different shapes and forms) and just like a car salesman, he would say or do anything to sell his Romneynimics, a branch of economics in which numbers don't add up, and giving tax cuts to the rich cuts is the antidote to all tghe economic problems in the world.

Romney is incapable of taking that 3:00 AM call, if he ever becomes the President.

Romney, is a shallow guy devoid of vision, ideas and has no clue as to how to take us from a lousy vaporeware based (read financial markets driven) economy we are in now, to a robust high tech, modern manufacturing economy. Romney is the guy who said, "People, don't worry about the rising tide due to global warming, for it's all hoax."

We should make sure that Obama's firewall (Ohio, Wisconsin, Iowa, Nevada, Michigan, Minnesota, and Pennsylvania) holds for the sake of this country. Otherwise, we can rest be assured that Romney as President would get us back to dark ages. Had the same with Bush43. Can't take it anymore.

Lets not forget the Auto industry did go through Bankruptcy. Doe's it really do you any good to attack Romney for saying Detroit should go through Bankruptcy when that is exactly what happened?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chrysler_Chapter_11_reorganization

Chrysler LLC and twenty-four of its affiliated subsidiaries filed a consolidated petition for bankruptcy on April 30, 2009, with the federal bankruptcy court in New York.[1][2] The court filing occurred upon failure of the company to come to agreement with its creditors for an outside-of-bankruptcy restructuring plan, by the April 30 deadline mandated by the federal government.

Wait a minute the Federal Government forced Chrysler to file for Bankruptcy.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_Motors_Chapter_11_reorganization

After the Chapter 11 filing, effective Monday, June 8, 2009, GM was temporarily removed from the Dow Jones Industrial Average and replaced by Cisco Systems. From Tuesday 2 June, old GM stock has traded Over the Counter (Pink Sheets/OTCBB), initially under the symbol GMGMQ[11] and currently under the symbol MTLQQ.

On July 10, 2009, a new entity completed the purchase of continuing operations, assets and trademarks of GM as a part of the 'pre-packaged' Chapter 11 reorganization.[12][13] As ranked by total assets, GM's bankruptcy marks one of the largest corporate Chapter 11 bankruptcies in U.S. history. The Chapter 11 filing was the fourth-largest in U.S. history, following Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc., Washington Mutual and WorldCom Inc.[14] A new entity with the backing of the United States Treasury was formed to acquire profitable assets, under section 363 of the Bankruptcy Code, with the new company planning to issue an initial public offering (IPO) of stock in 2010.[15] The remaining pre-petition creditors claims are paid from the former corporation's assets.

The federal government forced GM into Bankruptcy so an entirely new entity backed by the Federal Government could by up all their assets...

I (still) work for Chrysler. I am going to go in to do dimensional control measurement on our new Dodge truck coming out, and boy, is she a beeeauty! It will be built at Michigan's Warren Truck Plant where about 5,000 people will work to engineer, test and assemble trucks on the day shift and about the same number on afternoons.

There is a Thai food restaurant a few miles away that serves up a killer plate of Pad Pra Long Song or Pad Thai. Yummy stuff, great spring rolls.

My point:

All of these jobs exist because of Barack Obama, who had the stones to fight for Detroit when everyone else abandoned us. Romney knows that his bankruptcy would have resulted in Detroit's dissection, and the UAW's destruction. That is why President Obama went the way he did. He saved millions of jobs.

That's also why he chose not to impose the public option with the ACA that would have forced hundreds of thousands of insurance company employees on the street.

No Mr. President. We in Detroit don't forget. Just ask the people who crossed the Purple Gang. We particularly don't forget the people who were rooting for our demise, and I know of at least 6 hard-core Republicans who have gone over to the Democrats because of the kindness and vision you showed.

Whatever!!!! I'm tired of how great Obama is for bailing out a loser company. Just remember too, all Obama did was write out the check. Us taxpayers paid the bill. Do you think if we had the chance to vote on whether or not we wanted to bail out Detroit even Democrats would??? Why should GM be any different than any other company that goes bankrupt? Why don't we bail them out too? What about all the wasted stimulus money too? It's easy for any president to write out a check when he isn't the one paying for it. Heck, it's real good for votes. I'll end with this. I'll never buy another GM vehicle again because they're garbage, I'll buy a Ford any day over a GM . I have a 97 Ford F150 that is still running strong. I had 2 Chevy's before that and they were junk. Nothing but problems. Maybe if GM made decent cars and trucks like Ford, they wouldn't need taxpayer bailouts. Hey, that's right, Ford didn't get a bailout!

Letting GM and Chrysler go bankrupt the normal way like American Airlines is doing today certainly does not mean they would go away. Far from it.

They would most likely have ended up far leaner than they are today and therefore less of a burden on national debt.

Remember the UAW employees got a 9 week vacation at taxpayer expense.

Then Cash for Clunkers did more for Toyota than GM

Then a third of the dealerships were closed and became foreign car stores

These are high paying jobs that create lots of tax revenue for libbies to spend.

The President has "Bamnesia". The President did not save the auto industry. What he did do is spend a lot of other people's money to perpetuate poorly run corporations and when GM, for instance, paid back their loans in the form of unsaleable assets, and stocks worth half of what the President accepted as pay back value, the President touted himself as a winner.

Under Romney's bankrupsy scheme, GM and others would have been re-structured, debts settled, and $10 million bonus payments to failed executives and consultants would have been avoided. Viable cars would still be coming out the doors of the factories, and employees would still be on the line. The many Billions of dollars Obama used for the bailouts would not have been borrowed from China.

It's understandable that not everyone will support the President. It's reasonable for the GOP to challenge the incumbent. But why Romney? He's a hollow man in an empty suit, and that is being generous. Does the Republican party have no one with integrity and the courage of his convictions? Does the GOP even care about this country or this planet, beyond milking the land and the people for every last penny?

We have serious challenges to tackle, and science could help us do that. But the old white men of the GOP laugh at science. They mock climate change, evolution, and the Big Bang theory. They treat women like second-class citizens. Look into what the future would hold if we allow the backward policies of the GOP to become law. We cannot let the greed and power-lust of the GOP rule over us. For their own good, they need to be contained.

Tea Sucks brought up an interesting point about Romney's (and the GOP's) view of climate change, just as one example of what GOP rule could mean for all of us.

(Romney) didn’t simply dismiss global warming, or reject policies intended to address or mitigate against sea level rise, which is closely tied to global warming. Politicians do those things all the time. It’s ill-informed and irresponsible. But Romney took this a step further: he used the very idea of controlling sea level rise as a mere rhetorical device, a laugh line to mock Barack Obama‘s grandiosity. And he milked it for a few long seconds as the crowd at the Republican National Convention laughed.

Sea level rise is a genuine problem. The oceans are actually rising as the planet warms up, in part because the volume of water is expanding due to the extra heat, and in part due to the ongoing melting of polar ice. Evidence suggests that for most of the past 3,000 years, sea levels were stable, but that they began rising in the 1950s. Since then, they crept up at an annual rate of 1.7 millimeters per year. Lately, though, sea level rise has apparently been accelerating: This 2010 paper published by Science magazine (paywalled), notes that over the past 20 years, global sea level has risen an average of 3.3 millimeters a year.

This is becoming a severe social and political problem because so many people around the world, and millions of them in the United States (including Romney’s Boston headquarters) are located along coastlines. Approximately 10% of the world’s population lives at elevations of 10 meters or less above sea level, the Science paper notes, and many of these places suffer from subsidence, erosion, and other problems that hasten their exposure and possible demise.

The biggest risk here is from storms, which can suddenly pump up sea levels by many meters, with little warning. People like living near coastlines, and, in the U.S. and other parts of the developed world, coastal development has surged in recent years. But most assumptions for development and flood protection assume a certain stability that no longer exists. Denying this (as some state and local governments are doing) is crazy: sooner or later, the people living in these places, and the businesses they built there, will pay the price.

So Romney’s notion that helping families and protecting communities against sea level rise are somehow diametrically opposed is silly. He knows better.

Time and time again, Obama pins his hopes on people's ignorance. "Bankruptcy" is a legal status under which the business has an opportunity to be re-structured under the guidance of a judge who oversees the bankruptcy. In fact, Obama was instrumental in the auto companies undergoing such a process, but not under normal legal venue. Under Obama, the federal government seized control of the bankruptcy process.

Where Obama is deliberately relying on the ignorance of people in this case, is that he's playing on people's ignorant incorrect belief that equates "bankruptcy" with ceasing business.

You're parsing words, Ahad.

The point of it all is that Romney did not support federal financial assistance for the auto industry when he knew that there were no sources of private funds available or willing to step in to invest.

Obama's decision was made based on his desire to save jobs and communities, and on his insistence that the auto industry get its head out of that dark place to become what the consumer wants and needs, to innovate and compete.

"The American auto industry is vital to our national interest as an employer and as a hub for manufacturing. A managed bankruptcy may be the only path to the fundamental restructuring the industry needs. It would permit the companies to shed excess labor, pension and real estate costs. The federal government should provide guarantees for post-bankruptcy financing and assure car buyers that their warranties are not at risk."

Independent Thought

Romney/Ryan for children, women, small business, and a resurrected USofA.

You are as ignorant as one can get!! Romney and Ryan are not for children, women and small businesses and least of all USA. They are beholden to Koch brothers, Adelson, Stephen Schwarzman, and their rich billionaire friends.

Ryan and Romney will take away all the benefits that women and Children currently get in Obama's Affordable healthcare act. Their policies will put your four children in street soon after their inauguration (Jan 21, 2013), if ever Romney becomes President. Your two nieces will still be cleaning the restaurant tables as waitresses without any meaningful jobs even with their fantastic law degrees. Trust me, you will pay more in taxes if Romney were to become the President. The writing is on the wall. The man is shallow guy devoid of ideas and he amorphes into any shape or form that would help him to get to the throne in 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

Go ahead and vote for Romney and see what will happen to you and your family!! Good luck..

THE MEDIA HITS OBAMA.

Is about time!!! Take a few minutes to read this -- The liberal Washington Post and Newsweek hit Obama.

THE LIBERAL MEDIA HITS OBAMA

Finally, the Washington Post and Newsweek speak out about Obama. This is timely and tough. As many of you know, The Washington Post and Newsweek have a reputation for being extremely liberal. The fact that their editors saw fit to print the following article about Obama and the one that appears in the latest Newsweek, makes this a truly amazing event, and a news story in and of itself. At last, the truth about our President and his agenda are starting to trickle through the “protective wall” built around him by the liberal media.

___________________________

I Too Have Become Disillusioned.

By Matt Patterson (columnist - Washington Post, New York Post, San Francisco Examiner)

Years from now, historians may regard the 2008 election of Barack Obama as an inscrutable and disturbing phenomenon, the result of a baffling breed of mass hysteria akin perhaps to the witch craze of the Middle Ages. How, they will wonder, did a man so devoid of professional accomplishment beguile so many into thinking he could manage the world's largest economy, direct the world's most powerful military, execute the world's most consequential job?

Imagine a future historian examining Obama's pre-presidential life: ushered into and through the Ivy League, despite unremarkable grades and test scores along the way; a cushy non-job as a "community organizer;" a brief career as a state legislator devoid of legislative achievement (and in fact nearly devoid of his attention, so often did he vote "present"); and, finally an unaccomplished single term in the United States Senate, the entirety of which was devoted to his presidential ambitions.

He left no academic legacy in academia, authored no signature legislation as a legislator. And then there is the matter of his troubling Associations: the white-hating, America-loathing preacher who for decades served as Obama's "spiritual mentor"; a real-life, actual terrorist who served as Obama's colleague and political sponsor. It is easy to imagine a future historian looking at it all and asking: how on Earth was such a man elected president?

Not content to wait for history, the incomparable Norman Podhoretz addressed the question recently in the Wall Street Journal: To be sure, no white candidate who had close associations with an outspoken hater of America like Jeremiah Wright and an unrepentant terrorist like Bill Ayers, would have lasted a single day. But because Mr. Obama was black, and therefore entitled in the eyes of liberal-dom to have hung out with protesters against various American injustices, even if they were a bit extreme, he was given a pass. Let that sink in: Obama was given a pass - held to a lower standard - because of the color of his skin.

Podhoretz continues: And in any case, what did such ancient history matter when he was also so articulate and elegant and (as he himself had said) "non-threatening," all of which gave him a fighting chance to become the first black president and thereby to lay the curse of racism to rest?

Podhoretz puts his finger, I think, on the animating pulse of the Obama phenomenon - affirmative action. Not in the legal sense, of course. But certainly in the motivating sentiment behind all affirmative action laws and regulations, which are designed primarily to make white people, and especially white liberals, feel good about themselves.

Unfortunately, minorities often suffer so that whites can pat themselves on the back. Liberals routinely admit minorities to schools for which they are not qualified, yet take no responsibility for the inevitable poor performance and high drop-out rates which follow. Liberals don't care if these minority students fail; liberals aren't around to witness the emotional devastation and deflated self-esteem resulting from the racist policy that is affirmative action. Yes, racist. Holding someone to a separate standard merely because of the color of his skin - that's affirmative action in a nutshell, and if that isn't racism, then nothing is.

And that is what America did to Obama. True, Obama himself was never troubled by his lack of achievements, but why would he be?

As many have noted, Obama was told he was good enough for Columbia despite undistinguished grades at Occidental; he was told he was good enough for the US Senate despite a mediocre record in Illinois; he was told he was good enough to be president despite no record at all in the Senate. All his life, every step of the way, Obama was told he was good enough for the next step, in spite of ample evidence to the contrary.

What could this breed if not the sort of empty narcissism on display every time Obama speaks? In 2008, many who agreed that he lacked executive qualifications nonetheless raved about Obama's oratory skills, intellect, and cool character. Those people - conservatives included - ought now to be deeply embarrassed.

The man thinks and speaks in the hoariest of clichés, and that's when he has his teleprompters in front of him; when the prompter is absent he can barely think or speak at all. Not one original idea has ever issued from his mouth - it's all warmed-over Marxism of the kind that has failed over and over again for 100 years.

And what about his character? Obama is constantly blaming anything and everything else for his troubles. Bush did it; it was bad luck; I inherited this mess. Remember, he wanted the job, campaigned for the task. It is embarrassing to see a president so willing to advertise his own powerlessness, so comfortable with his own incompetence. But really, what were we to expect? The man has never been responsible for anything, so how do we expect him to act responsibly?

In short: our president is a small-minded man, with neither the temperament nor the intellect to handle his job. When you understand that, and only when you understand that, will the current erosion of liberty and prosperity make sense. It could not have gone otherwise with such a man in the Oval Office.

Obama jokes about 'Romnesia' in car country

The key phrase here is, "Obama jokes". I wish we had a president who takes things more seriously and doesn't seem so detached.... We have a president who loves to shoot hoops, play golf, go on late night talk shows, hobnob with Hollywood elites, go on vacations, and tear down any and everyone he disagrees with, but he doesn't have time to meet with his jobs task force (that he put together). As our embassy was being attacked in Libya, he took off for yet another fund raiser (and the republicans were criticized for going forward with their convention with a hurricane out in the Gulf?!) We need a president who ISN'T on talk shows and isnt more worried about filling out his NCAA brackets than cutting the deficit. We tried electing a "cool" president and it just didn't work out very well. Maybe it's time we tried a mature adult again.

President Obama is lying about what Mr. Romney actually said about the auto industry. If any of the far left loons were concerned about the truth they could easily research what was actually said but they just spew their old crap.

Romney is going to win the White House because the majority of Americans know the truth. Obama has failed and we need a leader.

I can't believe anyone would seriously ask that question. All of the politicians in DC, Democrat and Republican alike, have one primary conviction: get re-elected. And all of them will lie, cheat or do whatever it takes to get re-elected. Everything else is superficial after that.

    USA TODAY

General Motors has big plans for China. More dealers. More factories. And even strange-looking new models.

It plans to open 600 dealerships in China this year and nearly double the number of cars it builds in China by 2016, with plans to introduce a new Cadillac each year for several years, according to GM executives.

My question is, how does the people of the USA benefit from this? Wasn't it our tax dollars that bailed them out.

Please no nasty replies, keep it nice it's just a question.

    scott-579755:

Under Romney's bankrupsy scheme, GM and others would have been re-structured, debts settled, and $10 million bonus payments to failed executives and consultants would have been avoided. Viable cars would still be coming out the doors of the factories, and employees would still be on the line. The many Billions of dollars Obama used for the bailouts would not have been borrowed from China.

Context, my man, context. The private funds Romney intended to use to restructure GM under his bankruptcy plan were not available because the country was in the midst of an economic collapse. You do remember the credit crunch, don't you?

I opposed the bailouts and still do, but I'm not delusional enough to believe that GM and Chrysler wouldn't have shut their doors forever. Failing companies should be allowed to fail so others can take their place. That's the free market at work.

Hello folks, do you Democrat Republican blame gamers know how absolutely ridiculous you sound. It is downright embarrassing to see what I assume are "grownups" spinning whatever news item that comes across the wire to fit your fundamentalist political religion.

It's not even a question of the truth for the Republican Democrat blame gamers but willful hypocrisy for your "democracy"! Our political system is a one headed two party system serving their masters, Wall Street and the Banksters/Federal Reserve. Both parties are the same with the exception of a few social issues.

If you would like to come back to earth from the Presidential Reality Show and truly want to improve our country your priorities and concerns will have to change from the ‘Apology Tour” and “Big Bird” rhetoric to the real problems that plague our society. I’m sure there are many smart people out there that can add to the enclosed list.

We allow a foreign entity (Federal Reserve, neither federal nor a reserve, a group of mostly European banksters) to control our currency! This system is why you, I, economies and nations are in debt and debt slaves! The Fed has just passed QE3 to infinity and subsidiaries of the Fed like the European ECB can print money, but how can they create wealth by letting bankers use it for speculation (derivatives market), greater consolidation, and big bonuses?

We let Wall Street run our government! Wall Street is Washington and Washington is Wall Street! We have a two headed one party system serving their masters Wall Street and the Federal Reserve!

Our presidential politicians in both parties are going to spend approximately 1 billion dollars each on their campaigns this year, yet we are laying off fire fighters, teachers and policemen. Two billion dollars on presidential campaigns, is that insane or what? Then, we allow the Super Pac’s with little regulation and full anonymity to influence our American elections through the sheer volume of money that has been used to mislead the public to elect a corporate candidate or pass a corporate sponsored bill!

Our congress is bought and paid for by lobbyists and are involved with insider trading, doing the bidding for those who put the most money in their pockets! They get rich while we the “freeloaders” get cuts to Medicare and Social Security all the while the congress receive a tax payer salary and health benefits for life for themselves and their family compliments of the “freeloaders”.

We've legalized Corporations (Citizen's United) as people! They can now buy any election they want to, from sheriff to president! They don't even have to be American corporations! Corporations have severed their moral contract with America. It used to be you worked hard and helped them gain success and you shared in their success through better wages and benefits, all you get now is a pink slip.

The BP Corporation will likely not be charged with any criminal malfeasance in the largest natural disaster in history. The oil leak continues to flow and there are reports Corexit is still being used without any oversight by the U.S. - Many scientists claim the gulf loop current has been broken and the gulf sea floor has been permanently cracked. If you want evidence of the leak just talk to the residents and oil spill workers living along the gulf from Texas to Florida.

We invade a different country every year! Killing and displacing millions of people and spending trillions of dollars to enrich the Oil, Banking, and Corporate cartels!

The Census Department of the American Federal Government recently reported that “50% of the nation’s population were living below the poverty line”.

50 million people can't go to a doctor because they don't have health care!

47 million people need food stamps just to feed themselves!

25 million people are unemployed or underemployed!

15 million people's mortgages are worth more than their homes!

Our national debt is 16 trillion dollars! We pay off our debt with more debt! That is like putting gas on the fire! They tell the U.S. citizens it is their fault because they don't live within their means! They fail to mention it has everything to do with corrupt business and political leaders and the Federal Reserve and their fractional reserve banking system! In the U.S. we are injecting 85 billion a month in the economy via QE3 (40 billion a month), Operation Twist (45 billion a month) and guess who is on the hook for this irresponsible fiscal monetary policy?

The international banking elite with tacit approval from Democrats and Republicans has given the world 1.4 Quadrillion in derivatives fraud, the HSBC drug laundering fraud, the MF Global fraud, the PFG fraud, the high frequency trading pilfering and stock market fraud, the manipulation of the precious metals and bond market fraud, the MERS mortgage fraud, nearly countless individual frauds from both Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan, and the international 800 trillion LIBOR interest rate fixing banking fraud, just to name but a few recent FRAUDS and breaches of Bankster credibility and trustworthiness and who’s gone to jail? In blind obedience to the plutocrats we bail them out over and over and over again. You know their motto, privatize profits and socialize losses!

Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac the flagships of our housing bubble that has burst! The housing market used to be what was fueling the middle class as manufacturing was being outsourced to foreign countries, it got over leveraged like our banks and stock markets and there is no resolution in site! The mortgage settlement just signed is just another small fine and in reality a bailout for the banks for what they are truly liable for.

They tell us social safety nets, Medicare and Social Security that you and I paid into is Socialism when the largest recipients of social welfare in the history of the world are our “Capitalist, Free Market” banking and financial institutions! Remember the bailouts? We keep bailing out the banks to the tune of tens of trillions and we're told it's because they are too big to fail and all the while we allow them to get bigger! We are witnessing the biggest bank robbery in history and the banks and financial institutions are doing the robbing!

Our media (presstitutes) are bought and paid for by corporations and treat us like mushrooms! Reuters and the Associated Press try to tell us what to believe and think, such as unemployment is at 8.3% and falling, freedom is slavery, Ignorance is strength, war is peace, they hate us for our freedom, the terrorists are out to get you, the economy is great, borrow and spend! etc…

Our constitution, our most sacred document as a country is meaningless!

We have lost most of our civil liberties through the passage of the Patriot Act, Foreign Investigation and Surveillance Act (FISA) and National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) and the new National Defense Resources Preparedness (NDRP)! They have authorized the use of spy drones in American skies! You can be surveilled by any number of Federal agencies, have your phone and computer tapped, bank, medical, and private records accessed! You can be arrested without gaining access to an attorney or a trial. We are molested at the airports or radiated for “security”. And just recently added National Defense Resources Preparedness (NDRP) which comes on the heels of NDAA. This Executive Order allows the government to take pretty much whatever it wants including crops, farm equipment, vehicles, boats, aircraft and fuel to “prepare” for the national defense. This includes making people work for free. You think I’m kidding about the free labor? Here’s a line straight from the EO that says, “. . . to employ persons of outstanding experience and ability without compensation. . .” This is authorized even in peace time!

NYPD’s aggressive street policing program, called “stop-and-frisk,” which predominantly targets low-income minority neighborhoods. In 2011, the program stopped and searched more than 900,000 New Yorkers, 85 percent of them black or Latino. This program is moving to a city near you!

We have created another cartel the “Prison Industrial Complex”! We have outsourced our incarceration of United States citizens which consists of over 6 million prisoners! This exceeds the number of prisoners held in the gulags of the former Soviet Union at any point in history! All objectivity of prison reform has flown out the window in exchange for profits! No prisoners no profits! In some state contracts the conditions of privatization require that states guarantee prisons remain at 90% occupancy! Are there prison lobbyists? You bet and loaded with cash compliments of you and me!

The Military Industrial Complex is King, our defense budget is larger than the rest of the world’s combined! We are the enforcement arm of all the world’s cartels! The policeman of the world! In our countries short history we have bombed over 65 different countries and been at war with the world for 216 of our 236 years! The outsourcing of our security to private military companies like XE (formerly Blackwater) is increasing dramatically!

The phony war on drugs! While our military protect the poppy fields in Afghanistan, the Opium supply produced in Afghanistan went from a modest 185 tons at the start of American intervention in 2001, to a robust 8,200 tons of opium, a remarkable 53 percent of the country’s GDP and 93 percent of global heroin supply; Wells Fargo has been caught laundering money for the Mexican drug cartel in the United States (look it up); The use of drugs in the health care industry is over a 100 billion dollar a year scam. There's no profit in the cure only in the treatment. You are not allowed to buy the same manufactured prescription drugs from other countries at a cheaper price because the drug lobby has had congress pass laws against it to protect their profits.

Fukushima, which still remains stricken over 18 months after the disaster despite the fact that it has disappeared from mainstream news coverage.

The spent fuel pool inside unit number 4 at Fukushima which stores the spent fuel rods is under dire threat of collapse. Scientists have predicted that there is a 98% chance the facility will be hit by a 7.0 magnitude or higher earthquake within the next three years, threatening a disaster that would be worse than three reactor meltdowns combined. We should be made aware of the progress of the cleanup and situation.

We let the elite divide us so that they can keep us in fear, distracted, and divided to the theft going on right in front of our eyes each and every second of the day! The theft of our civil liberties, money and property!

What is wrong with this picture and what does it say about us that we allow this to take place? We have lost our moral compass and our priorities as a country and need to get them back! It is time we concentrate on fixing America for awhile!

Obama is a big, fat joke AND a liar. GM DID go bankrupt! The only ones who reaped benefit from the GM bailout were the unions (by the way that's the ONLY reason Obama supported the bail out - he owes the unions big.) Unions and government ownership - all part of Obama's socialist ideology. You democrats need to wake up and see what your guy is doing to this country - all in the name of socialism. I'm not saying Romney is the absolute best choice for republicans, but he is a far cry better than Obama!! The President should also talk about Obamanesia, his tendency to say things that sound good at the time but turn out to be nothing but bs.

Then there is Obamanomics which is a form of fantasy economics or in other words impossible economics.

The Obama campaign has finally, the day after the debates, come up with the President's economic plan for the next 4 years. The plan is devoid of detail and budgetary information but is full of wishful thinking. Obamanomics is really impossiblenomics. This is one of the parts that I like the best"

Do some nation-building here at home: We’ll use half the savings from ending the war in Afghanistan to help pay down our debt and invest the rest in fixing our roads, runways, bridges, and schools.
End overseas wars and rebuild our economy. After responsibly ending overseas operations, the President will reinvest in our country by:

        • Committing half of the money saved from responsibly ending overseas operations in Iraq and Afghanistan to reducing the deficit and the other half to investing in public infrastructure.
        • Investing an additional $210 billion over six years to support a million jobs improving America’s roads, bridges, transit systems, railways, aviation systems and runways, and putting construction workers back to work.

Four years ago, without conditions of any kind to include any act of congress, the President promised that the 2012 federal deficit would not exceed 229.27 billion dollars yet in fact it exceeded 1.1 trillion dollars. That says a lot for the President's fiscal planning and sense of budget. For the past 4 years the President has been proposing a tax increase on the "rich" that congress has yet to pass. This increase in taxes would at most divert 100 billion dollars per year from the private sector to the public sector. The federal government has been trying to spark the economy by injecting more money. This move will have the opposite effect and will do little to solve our debt problem. so using 2012 figures the federal government will still have a trillion dollar debt to deal with.

According to the President's nomination acceptance speech, the troops will be coming home in 2014 so by 2015 the peace dividend will be in full effect. According to the President's plan, he is expecting to net more than 2 trillion dollars per year by bringing the troops home. It will take at least 1 trillion dollars to balance the budget and of course that has to be done before we can start running a surplus. Balancing the budget is done with just half of the peace dividend. That is why the peace dividend will have to be greater than 2 trillion dollars per year. So the President is claiming that we are spending more than two trillion dollars per year on the war on Afghanistan which is less than true. If the federal government cut out all defense spending that then cut the rest of the budget in half it would not generate the required savings. The President's plan is fantasy economics. The President's plan is mathematically impossible. It is the President who needs more math education.

Over one month and through 3 televised debates...and Obama and Biden are still lying, and liberal sheep are still willing to pretend the emperor is wearing clothes and Rome isn't burning.

        From NPR:

[I]f the world had its say, this election would be a blowout favoring the incumbent.

That's according to a BBC World Service poll taken in 21 countries. It found for the most part, foreign countries preferred Obama. The only exception was Pakistan where more people said they preferred Romney.

Sometimes I think America has a bad case of Romnesia.

Problem is that how can they trust that Romney can or will do anything he claims. He backtracked on his campaign promises in Mass.

Obama has a proven four year record of breaking promises (many of them simple things). I will cut the deficit. All bills will be online for people to read before I sign them. No backroom deals. C-Span will televise all the healthcare debates. I will not hire former lobbyists. I will not raise taxes one dime.... the list goes on. Obama said anything and everything to get elected. Hope and Change turned out to be Bait and Switch. We fell for it once. If we are stupid enough to fall for it again we deserve whatever misery we get!

Romney supporters, explain and defend that prominent figure.

The only defense for it is to take it at face value; you have to believe that Romney was right when he brought it up.

If you do believe that, how do you explain and defend his sudden reversal; how does the new moderate Romney square with the Romney in that video?

He is either a coward for not defending that position, or he is a liar for suddenly abandoning it.

A coward or a liar, or both.

So....Obama promises many many things last election, all the MSNBC and NBC watching left wing zombies elect him, Obama does none of it and even makes things worse, and you're saying Romney Lies ? It is moronic to say Romney lies, when the guy your sticking up for (Obama ) has not done anything he said and the only thing he did (Obama Care) is far from what he said it would be, far from what he said it would cost and will cost us way more than he said it would. Who's the liar here ? Obama has divided the country, not bring it together as he said, has made the deficit worse, hasn't created jobs and the only solution he offers is to tax more, spend more and offer union payback jobs at the tax payers expense. I know I've had enough and I can tell many Americans (Legal tax paying Americans) have also had enough.

Mr.Obama was ( I say was because he has no chance of winning this election) like a great con man, people like him, he speaks well, gives great speeches about wonderful things, people follow him like sheep, but he never does any of it and doesn't even know how to get any of what he says done. Then, when people question him about the things he said, he goes out and gives a few more speeches, again never doing any of it. How many years does it take to figure out you've been had ? Apparently for some, it must be longer than 4 years. Come on people, you elected a guy that had no successes before he was President, didn't vote 50% of the time as Senator for fear if he voted wrong it would hurt him politically, so why should you expect any more from him after you elected him. Obama was and is only about political gain, why do you think he hasn't done anything the last 2 years as President ? He doesn't want to do anything that would hurt him for re-election. Unfortunately, he forgot that not doing anything doesn't get you re-elected either.

Now, Mitt Romney on the other hand has definitive proof of many, many completed successes in business and as governor and he actually does what he says and completes what he says successfully, unlike Mr.Obama that thinks speeches with no actions take care of everything.

Oh...I wanted to add, Mr.Obama did one other thing besides Obama care, he did make sure us tax payers will be paying for with higher taxes and giving up some of our jobs to 4 million illegal immigrants that he gave a reprieve to, just to get Hispanic votes for re-election. He pushed that through even though Congress wouldn't a few months ago when he realized he wasn't as popular as he thought and may not win the election. He don't care, it's only our tax money and there's more where that came from. Same thing his administration said about Solyndra and losing 400 million dollars of tax payers money, they said it was only 400 million dollars, who cares ? We do and that is why Obama will not win re-election. Mitt Romney has my vote for sure.

you wants this country to be as great as it was before Obama took office? Here's a few suggestions:

How about we crash the economy

We could destroy the housing market

How about some waterboarding, torture and kidnapping and rendition?

Maybe we could invade a few more countries that haven't done anything to us

We could give our last few dollars to the rich, Pharma, and the oil companies

Let's get rid of all our regulatory agencies. We don't really need to control banks or oil drilling anyway. What could go wrong with mining?

          Is this a good start?

Just as a point of argument, why not let GM go bankrupt. It would cause them thru the court system to trim the fat, not give them money to keep on keepin on. Or why do i keep seeing trucks for sale that get 20 mpg, with gas at $3.60.

Or whats good for GM is not good for solyndra? GM used to make a really good vehicle. I always owned chevys. Course i have a brother in law that worked for GM. In the 80's and 90's to save money, GM started buying lesser quality parts and their vehicles paid for it. Every chevy i ever owned went over 250,000 miles. Not so after the 80's. GM did this to themselves. So they are still in business with the same problems as before.

Oh, yeah, my brother in law was a supervisor. He went to work and if everyone showed up sat in an office and collected his pay. Did nothing.

Bailing out GM and not fixing the problems will only cause GM to fail later.

In the 1960's, the owners of the steel mills in pittsburgh, called a meeting with the managers, supervisors, and unions. the owners asked for concessions as the unions were running the price of steel up too high. They said if the unions and others did not agree to concessions, they would put the steel industry out of business. Course the unions and workers did not care. Minimum wage then was $1.35 an hour. the entry job into the steel mills payed $12.00.

Beginning in the late 1970s and early 1980s, the steel industry in Pittsburgh began to implode. Following the 1981–1982 recession, for example, the mills laid off 153,000 workers.[58] The steel mills began to shut down. These closures caused a ripple effect, as railroads, mines, and other factories across the region lost business and closed.

there is no steel made in pgh anymore. If the problems at GM are not fixed It will also implode.

Fix it. Loss of jobs, probably. But keeping a costly dead horse alive is not worth the trouble.

I'm an Obama supporter but I will not say Romney never had a good idea. His op-ed piece in the NY Times regarding the auto industry was thoughtful and a needed prescription. He DID recommend a government supported bailout after meeting needed conditions.

Get rid of those pesky unions that fight for good livable wages, benefits and safe working conditions and return to the days of substandard pay and the "lucky you have a job" attitude from the people who hire them. As long as the wallet is stuffed, who cares about taking our freedoms away (HSS mandate) making abortion, contraception, same sex marriage the law of the land. How about all of those union coal miners that are voting against Obama because he's killing the coal industry in Southern Ohio and W. Virginia? What about their wages? There's a lot of better ways to use our tax dollars than bailing out loser car companies just because they're union. My Dad, brother and I are union carpenters, but we wouldn't support bailing out a loser car company because they don't know how to run a buisiness. Don't make taxpayers pay for the bad way a company distributes their money. If the big guy at GM makes too much money, than why don't they restructure so they don't. Don't make me pay for their stupidity. I hate it when people spout out without thinking first.

Thomas Blue, I live right down the river from a coal burning power plant and they have enough scrubbers on that thing to make our air very breathable. I haven't seen any facts to back up your claims. There are risks with any fuel you use. Nuclear, gas, wood, windmills (which is a high priced solution, especially in areas of little wind) solar is way too expensive and not a realistic alternative, especially for poor or middle income people. So what are you suggesting? I believe God put a lot of these things in the earth for man to use and not be paranoid in the process. Hey, you're not a communist per chance are you?

NO tony, it is not necessarily get rid of the unions, how about if they live in the real world.

Thomas missed on part of the 1981-1982 failure of the steel mills it goes like this

In 1977 Jimmy Carter took the oath and proceeded with an agressive agenda of regulations. One of those was the clean air act. The steel industries would have to install very expensive air pollution equipment.

At the next Union contract the ownership told the union that they could not compete with the Japanese price, install the anti-pollution equipment required, and give the unions the increases in wages and benefits.

They could give the union the wages and benefits, but not install the anti-pollution equipment required an the company would buy Sulfur dioxide credits from a newly formed sulfur dioxide market and when the credits got to costly, they would pay fines until the company start losing money and they would close the plant

          OR

They could forgo the wages, get the pollution equipment to stay in business indefinitely.

Most of the companies that gave wage concessions are in still in business today. Those that didn't closed between 1981 & 1982.

If you don't have a record to run on, then you paint your opponent as someone people should run from. You make a big election about small things (Barack 0bama)

Obama DOES have a record to run on. You must stop listening to Faux news exclusivly Elliott and learn a few things. We were in a depression , not a recession when Dubya handed Obama the keys to the white house. We had lost 800,000 in one month alone on Bushes last month is office. We have had 31 continuous months of jobs added under Obama. The housing industry is getting stronger with new homes being built growing strong. We now have the equal pay act (Lily Ledbetter act) thanks to Obama, we have ended the war in iraq thanks to Obama, many American factories are starting to move back home thanks to Obama, health insurance companies can no longer discriminate and charge women more thanks to Obama, they can no longer reject you if you have a pre existing condition thanks to Obama, they can no longer throw you off the policy if you have reached your limit of claims thanks to Obama, our veterens returning home from war have a better chance of being hired thanks to Obama, Osama Bin Ladin is dead along with ten of his top Alquida leaders thanks to Obama. Shall I go on? AND if Obama is elected again and we get rid of some of the progress blocking repubs in Congress you will see even more progress in his second term. Those do nothing obstructionists have blocked every good thing Obama or the democrats have put forward in order to better our economy just to make Obama look bad and to strengthen thier case of making him a one term president. That is NOT what they were hired by the people to do! They have made it thier top priority to make Obama a one term president instead of doing what this country needs them to do. They need to be shown on Nov 6th that we are not going to put up with them any longer.

It truly disturbs me that Romney can continue to tell lie after bald-faced lie and seemingly get away with it. For the most part, neither the media nor the public hold him accountable for the way he changes his tune to pander to the audience to whom he's speaking. It's completely astounding that there are people in this country who do not care that his behavior smacks of a complete lack of integrity and personal character. A person so obviously unsuited to being the elected leader of our great country has rarely before been so close to winning the presidency. Should he succeed, get ready for another war, another financial disaster, another crushing era of burden on the middle class....

It is obvious that Obama and the liberal media want the country to believe that what you say about Romney is true, and the politically uneducated will believe it. The problem is that when they actually see Romney the description does not meet reality. That is why the polls changed so dramatically with the first debate and remain in Romney's favor. It wasn't that the President was that bad, in fact if you watched it without the split screen he did fine, but Romney did as well as he did because people saw that the image that the democrats are painting just isn't real. And the real Romney is more Presidential than the President.

Would everyone stop with the "he lies about this and that stuff"? Anyone can distort numbers and play with that stuff. Heck, I just saw a commercial on tv from union coal miners calling Obama a liar for his claims that they had to attend a Romney rally. The liberal Cleveland Plain Dealer started this lie and it's escalated into a BIG lie. I don't care about the rhetoric, the so called numbers. What's the record? What has Obama done in the last 4 years? He flip flopped on marriage between a man and woman to same sex marriage, he's trying to take away our freedoms, especially religious, with his HSS mandate.

My main concern here is this: We elect the God mocking Obama again and we may not exist as a country anymore. You don't tell God what's right and what's wrong, He tells us. Abortion, contraception, same sex marriages are WRONG, no matter how you try to dissect it. It's HIS rules, not ours. You go against HIM and you'll be lucky to have a country, let alone a job, a house, a car, whatever. That's IMPORTANT folks. the economy, foreign affairs, etc. are secondary here. YOU DON'T MOCK GOD. OBAMA MOCKS GOD! We all lose. In the Old Testament when leader's went against His ways, ALL THE PEOPLE SUFFERED. They were run over by their enemies, famines, etc. Pope John Paul 2 when he visited the US in the 80's said our "Very survival" depended on how we treated the most defenseless, namely the unborn. That's way before we had a president try to mandate contraceptives and abortificients. Now, same sex marriages. Enough said, I'm voting my conscience before anything else, and that means NOT voting for Obama who opposes God's laws.

A person so obviously unsuited to being the elected leader of our great country has rarely before been so close to winning the presidency.

Have you forgotten about the inexperienced 1st term junior senator, Barack Obama?

          Enough !

It is obvious that Obama and the liberal media want the country to believe that what you say about Romney is true...but Romney did as well as he did because people saw that the image that the democrats are painting just isn't real. And the real Romney is more Presidential than the President.

Another koolaid -drinker who is blinded by the smoke and mirrors of a wealthy, handsome man in an expensive suit. A man chosen by the central casting arm of the GOP to play the role of POTUS, a puppet of the power-mongers, a shill for corporate greed.

People who have followed this entire election process, including the Republican primaries, have seen Romney completely reverse himself on every single issue. Then his campaign quietly comes out and tells us he didn't really mean that.

The REAL Romney? Who is that?

Look back at what his own GOP rivals said of him during the primary. They saw the real Romney, and he is not presidential material, not unless you're only casting him to play the role on a TV show.

This is no TV show, sister. This is reality.

Would you have elected George W. Bush all over again, twice, if you had the option of going back in time? Think about what you're doing by supporting some one who is waaay worse than Dubbya.

          @ Bob Turk:

Just a little history reminder here.

The Republican party has been playing the abortion card for over 40 years. By using the term "playing" I mean exactly that. They use it to get the God fearing Bible thumpers vote then do nothing more about it once in office. When will people like you wake up and finally realize you are being used? Really, it's been 40 years or more and this trick STILL works?

Making a joke that involves Obama makes you a racist. If you question why Obama lied about the Al-Qaeda led attack in Libya you are a racist. If you expect Obama to live up to all of the promises he made to get elected you are a racist. If you don't vote for Obama then you are as Chris Matthews points out doing so because of racism. Liberals are the racism detectors, they shield Obama from doing his job by claiming everyone that expects a president to live up to his duties is a racist. Either you point fingers of blame, make excuses, or you are a racist in the eyes of Obama supporters. How desperate of Obama, he has failed the nation, the middle east is in turmoil, he has blatantly lied about Libya, and all he has left are petty attacks and childish word games. When all else fails, just play the race card again.

In 2008, Candidate Obama said, “if you don't have any fresh ideas, then you use stale tactics to scare voters.” He said, “if you don't have a record to run on, then you paint your opponent as someone people should run from.” And that, he told us, is how, “You make a big election about small things.”

Romney. Has. No. Clue. He went to Cranbrook, for crying out loud, priciest prep school in the state. Where, rumor has it, he helped bully a kid because of his long hair.

So NOW he wants to cuddle up with auto workers in Detroit? When he didn't give a flying F whether they had jobs or not?

          Naw, dude. We remember.

Romney didn't just help bully another kid at Cranbrook. Romney was the ringleader. He claims he 'doesn't remember' the incident, but several of his classmates do.

Romney decided the boy was gay, and was offended that his hair was not standard-issue prep. So he and a bunch of his fellow bullies held the kid down and cut off his hair.

Romney is a bully. We see that to this day.

Maybe you should read Obama's book and find that he wasn't all peaches and cream when he was younger either! He pushed a girl to the ground because the others were teasing that he was her boyfriend, he smoked pot, he ate dog, oh and guess what? None of it SHOULD matter! My God, people! Romney's incident was almost 50 years ago, and Obama's 'girlfriend' was probably 40 years ago. Are any of us the same people we were when we were adolescents and teens? As for Romney being a bully to this day, I think the person who name calls and teases about silly things like Romnesia, Big Bird, binders, etch-a-sketch, etc. would be closer to the modern day definition of a bully.

The "liberal media" is a freakin' MYTH! Look, folks, we're not talking about a case for Sherlock Holmes here: Something like 90% of the media outlets, of ALL types, in this country are owned by just five companies. All of these companies are huge supernational corporate comglomerates.

Does it really make any kind of sense at all that these big companies would support typically liberal causes such as: Saving the enviroment, fighting climate change, equal pay for women, universal access to healthcare, clean air and water being recognized as basic human rights, the right of workers to organize, saving the family farm, promoting renewable energy, or promoting economic justice? Now, really.

Everything on that Progressive wish list above- which is just the first ones that popped into my head, and is far from complete- is directly opposed to what most corporate officers view as being in their, and their companies', best interests. Bill Gates and Paul Allen are widely and justly lauded for the causes they support, but if those causes were perceived to be harmful to Microsoft's bottom line or public image, how quickly do you think those gentlemen would find other outlets for their generosity?

It's somewhat true that certain newspapers, notably the New York Times and the Washington Post, have been presenting some big stories from a liberal point of view; but much of that was simply a matter of stories being reported that the Conservative power structure wanted to remain hidden. The President never ordered a burglary of the opposition party's headquarters; that's liberal bias in the media. The President didn't break the law and commit the moral equivalent of high treason by authorizing the sale of weapons to the sworn enemies of America, Iran: no, that's just an unfair liberal slant. See what I mean?

The big difference is this: The Republicans never get tired of whining about the alleged liberal bias in the media, which is almost extinct except for low-circulation magazines like Mother Jones or the Progressive- the kind of titles you have to go looking for- and some websites. The airwaves are overwhelmingly right- wing, and the major outlets have been so cowed by decades of Conservative bellyaching that they bend over backwards to present "their side", even on such issues as evolution, climate change and the toxicity of certain consumer products, which are properly matters for cold, dispassionate science. Hell, we even saw Rush Blimpaugh complaining that the National Weather Service had a liberal bias in how they report the weather- and on Planet GOP, nobody thought there was anything the least bit bizarre about that.

Progressives, by huge and undeniable contrast, don't cry and snivel about a rightist bias in the media even when it's impossible to miss. FOX News? CNN? Most of AM radio? The Lefties just blow it off and keep working. The right has done such a thorough and effective job of subverting the language that their blind, unthinking followers will believe anything they're told, even when it flies in the face of all their own life's experience, their moral code, their economic interests, even common sense.

Liberal elitism? Damn betcha! Yes, I do consider myself to be morally superior to a Wall Street speculator who produces no goods and creates no jobs, but who makes millions of dollars by market manipulations that drive up the prices for gas, bread and medication to killing levels- and is never held accountable for the suffering he causes. Yes, you'd better believe I hold myself to be a better type of person than the vampire who buys a healthy business, loads it up with debt, and then liquidates it, throwing thousands of people out on the streets while pocketing a fortune. And I sure as Hell think I'm smarter than that man who votes to support and strengthen the system which produces and protects the vampire and the speculator!

Choke on it, power- mongers, and those of you who actually work for a living but still vote for the system that's holding you in your place and selling your children's future to foreign interests- shame on you. SHAME!

So, mcpaddywack, you think Romney as president would enable opportunity for everyone? You think the average joe would be all set up to make a fortune under his policies?

          That's hilarious!

Unless you're already a member of the entitled rich class, or you are one of Romney's sons or relatives, you'd have to go to the back of the bus. You'd just be another one of the 47 percenters. You'd have no one championing public education, keeping jobs inside the U.S., supporting small businesses, helping the middle class by lowering our taxes.

But you keep dreaming! Dream about buckets of cash in offshore accounts, dream about getting yourself a car elevator and a dancing horse.

As for myself, I just want peace at home and abroad, and enough prosperity to support myself in my old age.

As simple and obvious this expalnation is, the "tax ans spend" folks still don't get it.
Governor "Moonbeam" here in California is a perfect example!

An oversimplified, but accurate, example of tax policy:

Let’s put tax cuts in terms everyone can understand.

Suppose that every night, ten men go to their favorite bar for beer.

The tab for all ten comes to $100 for ten pitchers.

If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this:

The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing.

            The fifth would pay $1.

            The sixth would pay $3.

            The seventh $7.

            The eighth $12.

            The ninth $18.

The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59.

So, that’s what they decided to do. The ten men drank in the bar every
night and seemed quite happy with the arrangement, until one day, the owner threw them a curve.

“Since you are all such good customers,” he said, “I’m going to reduce the cost
of your nightly tab by $20.” So, now drinks for the ten only cost $80.

The group still wanted to pay their tab the way we pay our taxes.

So, the first four men were unaffected. They would still drink for free.

But what about the other six, the paying customers?

How could they divvy up the $20 windfall so that everyone would get his ‘fair share’?

The six men realized that $20 divided by six is $3.33.

But if they subtracted that from everybody’s share, then the fifth man and the
sixth man would each end up being ‘PAID‘ to drink beer!

So, the bar owner suggested that it would be fair to reduce each man’s bill by
roughly the same amount, and he proceeded to work out the amounts each
            should pay. And so:

The fifth man, like the first four, now paid nothing (100% savings).

The sixth now paid $2 instead of $3 (33% savings).

The seventh now paid $5 instead of $7 (28% savings).

The eighth now paid $9 instead of $12 (25% savings).

The ninth now paid $14 instead of $18 (22% savings).

The tenth now paid $49 instead of $59 (16% savings).

Each of the six was better off than before. And the first four
            continued to drink for free.

But once drunk and outside the bar, the men began to compare their savings.

“I only got a dollar out of the $20,” declared the sixth man.

He pointed to the tenth man “but he got $10!”

“Yeah, that’s right,” exclaimed the fifth man. “I only saved a dollar, too.

It’s unfair that he got ten times more than me!”

“That’s true!!” shouted the seventh man.

“Why should he get $10 back when I
got only $2? The wealthy get all the breaks!”

“Wait a minute,” yelled the first four men in unison. “We didn’t get anything at all. The
            system exploits the poor!”

The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat him up.

The next night the tenth man didn’t show up at the bar, so the nine sat down and drank without him.

But when it came time to pay the tab, they discovered something important.

They didn’t have enough money between all of them for even half of the tab!

And that, boys and girls, journalists and college professors, is how our tax system works.

The people who pay the highest taxes get the most benefit from a tax reduction.

Tax them too much, attack them for being wealthy, and they just may not show up
to pick up the tab anymore.

True ... but only if you need them worse than all the other things on the list --- which would actually be more effective at defending our nation and it's citizens. That would include things like a) greatly enhanced cybersecurity - which is probably our greatest threat and btw; that includes our ships in the Navy b) training and support of our troops to effectively operate these increasingly sophisticated systems c) space-based assets. To paraphrase something I recently heard, this ain't a game of battleship. We need a balanced, cost effective defense system - not a bloated contracting environment that just produces weapons we can't use in a conflict.

The fact remains that the Navy submitted their Strategic Business Plan which stated that they need 313 ships to carry out their mission. They (like Benghazi) have been expected to do without. Why does this administration continue to refuse those protecting us with the things they request?

How can Mo Romney sit in a debate and lie in such a cool and calm way, when his handlers (that are highly paid and skillful) know that the next day, if you will, "or even the night of the debate" that videos with sound are being constantly rerun where he publicallly stated just the opposite for the last 6 years he has been running for POTUS; and changing positions on key issues less than a month ago?"

I know that Mo Romney is a psychopathic liar and scoundrel, however, the stress of this campaign with Obama fighting back and Romney's perception of it is apparently rendering Romney in a hepless position where, if you will, "can no longer keep his lies straight in order to defend them."

                What a POS.

That is a good point that you made. If so, and it probably is; it would suggest that Romney is not a strong candidate if their best course of action is to hope there are sufficient brain dead rednecks like McPaddywack to vote him in.

So Romney/Ryan keep harping that the deficit is Obama's fault. No, we can't raise taxes, no siree bob. Going to have to cut cut cut to save your children's future. Gloom and doom. All the fault of the POTUS because he spends too much money.

Except, oh, wait, defense contracts. Those are groovy and good. We are going to spend MORE money there, but hey, we'll make up the difference by cutting out PBS.

So what do you propose we do? We're spending $700 Billion more this year than we did in 2008 with about 50 Billion less income. So what do you think is the problem? Do we spend to much or don't tax enough?

The rich need to pay and quit rigging the rules. The poor just don't have it, although most vote as though they do. Because proud Americans are too uneducated to realize they are voting against their own livelyhood. Health? Wages? Civil Libertys and Justice for All or just the Rich? Money does not make America and you can't take it with you no matter what Country you are from.

Commentators after the debate Monday night mentioned that Romney's ship-building idea was a carrot to Virginia voters. They mentioned shipyards employ a lot of people in Virginia. So, Romney's willing to spend tax money in exchange for votes, or so he says this week. I guess 2 trillion for extra defense spending is okay if it's for "the cause".

The fact that the administration knew from the start that Benghazi was a planned attack and blamed it on a video could be means for impeachment. Think it through with an open mind now that the facts are out: No one had even heard about, let alone watched, this obscure video. By the administration bringing it up, and repeating it over and over, they in essence CAUSED the subsequent protests and attacks throughout the middle east.

And the President looks the people right in the eye and continues to tell non-truths, and yet his supporters consistently give him a pass.

Obama claimed the record would back him up when he accused Romney of opposing any federal “help” or “assistance” for troubled automakers. In fact, the record shows Romney supported federal loan guarantees. - Factcheck.org

The name calling, sarcasm and ridiculing is unbecoming for a sitting President. Is this how he will bring people together in the next four years if he wins?

                    >>SIGH<<

Federal loan guarantees means that the government would have backed the loans of any private entity that would have invested in the automakers,NOT having the government make the loans themselves.

It was a CYA aside in the column by Romney as he knew, better than most, that NO PRIVATE INVESTORS were going to step up to help.

                    NONE.

                    ZERO.

                    ZILCH.

As for what is and what isn't unbecoming a President I find it odd that you have such a problem with how Mr. Obama addressed Mr. Romney but you seem to be OK with the lies that Romney levels at the President.

Maybe your parents never taught you that respect is a two way street,I don't know. But I was raised on the principle of "you want respect, you GIVE respect".

And the level of disrespect that has been hurled at this President from the party and it's constituents that Mr. Romney represents is unequaled by anything I've ever seen in my lifetime.

I knew he had no principles. I knew he had no core beliefs. I knew he had no spine.

Now I'm questioning whether or not Romney even has a soul.

As a veteran I remember who has and who hasn't mentioned us in these debates and at the conventions and during the campaign. I see what the First Lady and Dr. Jill Biden have done for the heroic men and women coming home from Iraq and Afghanistan.

                    I REMEMBER.

Perhaps had anyone in the Romney family served this country ever he may understand what that means enough to not equate his 5 silver spoon fed sons working for his campaign as being in some way equal to serving the country abroad. And maybe he would mention the troops and the vets.

                    But he doesn't.

He DOES care about how many planes, tanks and ships we build though, bet your ass on that. After all,I'm sure he has plenty of buddies who rake it in big on our bloated defense budget. And you really doubt that this "man" would hesitate, for even a second,to send our brave men and women into harm's way to line thier pockets even more?

I've heard the President and Biden say that they believe Mitt Romney is a decent family man,a good man.

                    I thoroughly disagree.

A good man doesn't ignore those who keep us safe.

A good man doesn't stand on a stage with a self-aggrandizing,racist POS like Donald Trump,as he fans the flames of the ignorant with his "Birther" BS.

A good man doesn't lead a campaign that gives press credentials to a sleazebag like Jerome Corsi.

A good man would have publicly admonished his punk son Tagg when he said that he would have liked to have punched the President for calling his father a liar.

(Guess what Tagg, your father IS A LIAR. And if you're such a badass Tagg, why don't you nut up and enlist and put your sissy ass on the line? Ha,as if THAT would ever happen.)

If this country elects a man with no spine and less principles to the highest office in the land the God help it.

This is such propaganda and half truths by Obama. Apparently he didnt read the article that Romney wrote??? If you actually read something besides the title you will see that he said:

"The American auto industry is vital to our national interest as an employer and as a hub for manufacturing. A managed bankruptcy may be the only path to the fundamental restructuring the industry needs. It would permit the companies to shed excess labor, pension and real estate costs. The federal government should provide guarantees for post-bankruptcy financing and assure car buyers that their warranties are not at risk."

Did Obama not take the car companies into bankruptcy? This is the one success that Obama continuously pushes. I am very confused.

I actually have the Obama phone. The company called twice during the last debate with a recording telling me that I had to use it at least once a month or it would be turned off. I use it on a regular basis, so why did they call twice during the debate?

I should get a new job soon and look forward to turning it off and paying for my own phone. One with a company that doesn't harass me during a presidential debate.
