Obama high command projects strength heading into home stretch

Updated 1:23 p.m. ET - President Barack Obama's re-election team emerged Tuesday to argue that the president is in the proverbial driver's seat heading into the closing two weeks of the campaign.

"We continue to feel very good about our prospects two weeks from tonight," Obama campaign manager Jim Messina said in a conference call recapping last night's third and final debate between the president and Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney.

Recommended: Obama renews ridicule of Romney the day after final debate

Messina, along with senior Obama campaign strategist David Axelrod, argued that the president is well-positioned to win a second term thanks to the strength of early voting in states like Iowa, Ohio and Wisconsin and stronger turnout the Democratic high command expects from minority and young voters.

Sen. John Kerry joins The Daily Rundown's Chuck Todd to talk about the differences between the candidates on foreign policy during the final debate.

But Axelrod also acknowledged that his own words might well be a headfake in the end.

"We know what we know, and they know what they know. I'm confident we're going to win this race," he said. "We'll know who is bluffing and who isn't in two weeks."

"Three weeks ago Jim Messina was insisting they were ahead in the battleground states and today he is insisting they aren’t pulling out of any states.  That doesn’t sound like ‘Forward’ to me," said the Romney campaign's political director, Rich Beeson, in response.

Both the Romney and Obama campaigns are full of bravado headed into the final 14 days of the campaign, each cherrypicking a handful of polls and statistics to argue they have the upper-hand in the election. More independent polls have shown the presidential contest tightening to a horserace nationally, a development that has played out in many swing states as well.

President Obama voiced his concerns over Governor Romney's foreign policy doctrine at a campaign event in Delray Beach, Fla., saying his opponent is "all over the map."

Even the slightest sign of weakness by Obama or Romney is seized upon by the other. When Paul Begala, an adviser to a pro-Obama super PAC, said yesterday on television that the Obama campaign was all but finished in North Carolina, the Obama campaign tried to dispute his characterization.

"We are tied or ahead in every battleground state, and we're not leaving any state where we're tied or ahead," Messina said Tuesday.

The Obama campaign manager also played up their efforts to encourage Obama supporters who might not be the most consistent voters to cast their ballots early in states where that is available.

"Every single day now is Election Day," Messina said.

I'd like to see Obama kept in office simply because I believe the captain of a sinking ship should follow it down. Unemployment is up, existing housing sales down and when sequestration kicks in you ain't seen nothing yet! Further if you read the theories of Karl Marx (before Lenin found him) they fit the current US to a tee. Interesting time to live and Obama should speed it all on.

WOW! Lots of MSNBC employees on here today. High command ?? Really? Anyone bother to look up where that phrase was used most recently in government? Does the name Adolph Hitler ring a bell. It's hard to believe that ANY politician would have approved that wording. Obama is going to lose and probably lose by a huge margin. Unemployment is actually about 20% if you include those out of work that have simply given up after looking for years while working odd jobs off the books. Kinda like all the illegals do.

I went to the Obama campaign web site and read through the President's plan for the next 4 years. What is provided is devoid of details, budgetary information, or analysis. For example to quote from the site we have:

Do some nation-building here at home: We’ll use half the savings from ending the war in Afghanistan to help pay down our debt and invest the rest in fixing our roads, runways, bridges, and schools.
End overseas wars and rebuild our economy. After responsibly ending overseas operations, the President will reinvest in our country by:

              • Committing half of the money saved from responsibly ending overseas operations in Iraq and Afghanistan to reducing the deficit and the other half to investing in public infrastructure.
              • Investing an additional $210 billion over six years to support a million jobs improving America’s roads, bridges, transit systems, railways, aviation systems and runways, and putting construction workers back to work.

It talks about the President reinvesting money so apparently the President considers that the money that is being spent on the War in Afganistan is his personal money and not the tax payers.

The President promised that the 2012 federal deficit will not exceed 229.27 billion dollars yet the actual deficit came to more than 1.1 trillion dollars. So much for the President's promise. The President has been trying to get congress to increase taxes on the "rich" but with no success. If the President does succeed with his tax increase for the "rich", what he has proposed, at most will provide the federal government with .1 trillion dollars more in taxes. To start paying down the debt the federal government has to run a surplus. Using 2012 deficit numbers and assuming the tax on the rich, to achieve a surplus with half of the savings from the Afgahn war, the war savings will have to exceed two trillion dollars per year. Currently we could not achieve such savings if we completely shut down our military, all foriegn aid and half of the remaining federal government. It is impossible. The President's plan is based on fantasy economics. The President has no sense of budget. It is he who needs to improve his math education.

Imelda Marcos must be proud of Mitt Romney. Her collection of shoes was incomparable even by
the standards of the "Royals" of the world. Mitt Romney must have Imelda at heart and is obviously in record breaking form for collecting "sandals". You know, the Flip-Flop variety. In fact, I think that he should be careful, because the DOJ could entertain leveling charges of "Monopoly on Sandals" on his Campaign. Personally, I think he should sell them on E-Bay. His collection varies in style, colors and sizes. I don't see why that would be such a stretch, since he is selling Very Large Burgers also. You know the "Whoppers". Actually, a guy like Mitt really gets a Bum Rap all the way around. However, what most people don't realize is that he is such a good Environmentalist. It sounds a bit creepy, but Mitt recycles his Whoppers. The people from Politi-Facts throw the Whoppers in the garbage and he pulls them out, cleans them a little bit and uses them again. What a guy !!!!!! Is there a vaccine for him,........no wait I meant against him ??? ........oh well whatever !!!!

And he's going to lie his way til the end. This is from ABC/Yahoo News:

"In a new TV ad, President Obama makes an inflated claim to
have added 5.2 million new jobs. The total added during his time in office is
                        actually about 325,000."

Watching the smackdown highlights of Obama bowling over Romney last night reminded me instantly of the greatest NFL running back of all time, Jim Brown running over linebackers in his days with the Cleveland Browns....and Oscar Robertson/The Big O taking any NBA guard to the classroom scoring 30+, grabbing 10+ rebounds and dishing 10+ assists any time he walked on the court and felt like doing that in his years with Cincinnati Royals and Milwaukee Bucks.

Romney agreed with Obama's policies and decisions so many times last night, he would have agreed to working for him as the Obama/Romneycare Director when he loses if offered.

I know Obama is going to keep at least one promise that he uttered while president. 'If I can't fix this economy in three years, its a one term deal." Yes sir it is.

All of the larger companies and corporations are holding on to their cash in an effort to keep the economy from improving and so far it's worked pretty good. Now that the billionaires have started to dump shares just before the election so as to drive the stock market into a good sized hole and further depress earnings things are looking good for Romney.

Thank God for the Supreme Court being on the side of the rich so they can run things as they want and as they truly deserve. And you ordinary folks? Eat sh!t and die, thank you.

BTW the reason corporations held on to their cash was becasue of the 275 anti business regulations Oblamo pushed through over the last four years.
