Paul Ryan reacts to second Wisconsin shooting

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Republican vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan is “shocked and saddened” by the shooting in his home state of Wisconsin that took place Sunday just two months after another mass shooting in the state.

“Janna and I were shocked and saddened by the news from Brookfield today. As our community continues to heal from August’s tragic violence, our thoughts and prayers are with today’s victims and their loved ones,” Ryan said in a statement.

“Our gratitude also goes to the first responders who rushed to save lives and secure the scene. We will not allow the evil responsible for this heartbreaking event to triumph over the spirit of the people of Wisconsin. I ask all Americans to keep those affected by this event in their hearts, minds, and prayers today,” he said.

At least seven people were shot and three of them killed this morning at the Azana Spa across the street from the Brookfield Square mall, according to police.

Brookfield is in the 5th District, which Republican Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner represents.

In early August -- the week Mitt Romney tapped Ryan as his running mate -- a shooting in Oak Creek, Wis. rattled Ryan's district. Romney delayed announcing his running mate so that Ryan could attend funeral services for the seven killed at the Sikh temple outside of Milwaukee.

Ryan's reaction? Let me guess - typical conservative dogMa even when grandMa is shot - that Guns don't kill, people do?

.

The Supreme Court already declared in McDonald v. Chicago that the Second Amendment means freedom to have guns. One size fits all? How about the dangerous inner cities?

Why isn't that just precious coming from a gun-loving Catholic!

This is the SECOND massacre in Brookfield this year & all Lyin Ryan has to say is he's saddenend?

I'm sure the families will find much comfort in his canned remarks!

Oh, and keep in mind, little Paulie is so fond of GUNS, he's going to start taking his 10 year old daughter shooting now that she is of legal age!'

I mean, the Supreme Court conservatie judges (2010) allowed people the freedom to own guns because these conservative judges believed that the government has been incompetent in protecting the people, thus agreeing to allow the people to fend for themselves.

The case is McDonald v. Chicago

Bali Bob, Next time the Commander in Chief's horrendous oversight leads to the death of four of our own, we'll just pretend it never happened out of fear of politicizing it.

Ryan was not responsible for the shooting. Pres. Obama was responsible for the deaths in Libya. You able to comprehend that? Or does the simple logic of the matter still elude you.

Attacking Ryan for an incident he had no control over is politicization. Holding the Pres. accountable for his failures is our responsibility as voters, since he answers to us on election day.

Bali, Killing Bin Laden was more of a symbolic victory than an actual victory. Bin Laden was cut off from his organization and had very little remaining influence in Al-Queda. The only contact he had with the outside world was through couriers who took forever to get messages in and out of his compound due to security concerns. By the time we actually killed him, his subordinates had effectively taken over control of Al-Queda.

Look at the Middle East and the disaster it has become, how can you call that "strong" foreign policy?

How long will it take for Romney/Ryan to call this outrage in Wisconsin what it is, a hate crime and sheer terrorism. I doubt very much that the trigger man was another Sikh. Somehow this only counts for Romney/Ryan when the perpetrators are Islamic people attacking Americans in the United States or abroad. It couldn't include Americans committing acts of terror on other nationalities or religious groups that are other than Christians. I've owned guns since I was 14. I hold a lifetime concealed carry permit.

I am sick of hearing that stupid "Guns don't kill people, People kill people" line. If it were to be accurate, it should include these additional words: "and when people want to kill other people, they usually do it with guns" because that is the truth - it doesn't change the sencond amendment, but it accurately describes the facts.

Fear brought on by cable news entertainment and radio entertainment which profits from extreme bias talk about political views has brought on too much violence in our country, and MY fear is that there will continue to be sensless killings as long as the Tea Party, which is fueled by cable entertainment from Fox, and continued rhetoric from the likes of Rush Limbaugh incites this fear and hate, and the sell-out politicians who only see positional and financial opportunity, sell out to them.

My comments may bring a flood of backlash, but that will not change the truth.

Fieisty, the trolls have infested this thread and sometimes we all need a reminder in the heat of battle that it's best not to feed them. Republican Trolls, the worst kind, want to turn the forum into a name-calling match because they believe it makes their party look legitimate...

IXLR8

This has nothing to do with politics. Just the sicker, darker side of any society.

Amazing statement, because I think you really believe it! The fact is these kinds of killings are exponentially more common in America than any other developed country. By a huge margin. We are like a giant paranoid armed-camp and you think this is just the "dark side" of society? It seems ludicrous to even suggest such a thing. In most civilized places when people have acute attacks of mental illness they usually punch someone or take off their clothes and run down the street... in America they bust open the arms stockpile and go on a killing rampage. Sorry, this is not just something a society has to accept. NO, YOU choose to accept is as the price of your gun hoarding tendencies.

Take responsibility for your own position and stop passing the buck! Gun-nuts and their NRA organization of gun-nuts have to solve the problem of spree-killing in America if they intend to maintain such cavalier gun laws as those we currently have.

I lived in Brookfield a few years ago. It's a wealthy, white, religious, Christian, conservative and very bigoted place. Almost all my neighbors proudly paraded to church and used the "N" word often. They loved "wetback" jokes and George W Bush. In other words, a very Republican town. It's no surprise to me there have been multiple gun sprees in this small city in just a short period of time. They all are armed and looking for something to shoot....

John Doe-2241225

tonybeerm, I watched the speech. The President said "no acts of terror" with no reference to Libya whatsoever

You are an idot or liar (or both)

Good morning. Every day, all across the world, American diplomats and civilians work tirelessly to advance the interests and values of our nation. Often, they are away from their families. Sometimes, they brave great danger.

Yesterday, four of these extraordinary Americans were killed in an attack on our diplomatic post in Benghazi. Among those killed was our Ambassador, Chris Stevens, as well as Foreign Service Officer Sean Smith. We are still notifying the families of the others who were killed. And today, the American people stand united in holding the families of the four Americans in our thoughts and in our prayers.

The United States condemns in the strongest terms this outrageous and shocking attack. We’re working with the government of Libya to secure our diplomats. I’ve also directed my administration to increase our security at diplomatic posts around the world. And make no mistake, we will work with the Libyan government to bring to justice the killers who attacked our people.

Since our founding, the United States has been a nation that respects all faiths. We reject all efforts to denigrate the religious beliefs of others. But there is absolutely no justification to this type of senseless violence. None. The world must stand together to unequivocally reject these brutal acts.

Already, many Libyans have joined us in doing so, and this attack will not break the bonds between the United States and Libya. Libyan security personnel fought back against the attackers alongside Americans. Libyans helped some of our diplomats find safety, and they carried Ambassador Stevens’s body to the hospital, where we tragically learned that he had died.

It’s especially tragic that Chris Stevens died in Benghazi because it is a city that he helped to save. At the height of the Libyan revolution, Chris led our diplomatic post in Benghazi. With characteristic skill, courage, and resolve, he built partnerships with Libyan revolutionaries, and helped them as they planned to build a new Libya. When the Qaddafi regime came to an end, Chris was there to serve as our ambassador to the new Libya, and he worked tirelessly to support this young democracy, and I think both Secretary Clinton and I relied deeply on his knowledge of the situation on the ground there. He was a role model to all who worked with him and to the young diplomats who aspire to walk in his footsteps.

Along with his colleagues, Chris died in a country that is still striving to emerge from the recent experience of war. Today, the loss of these four Americans is fresh, but our memories of them linger on. I have no doubt that their legacy will live on through the work that they did far from our shores and in the hearts of those who love them back home.

Of course, yesterday was already a painful day for our nation as we marked the solemn memory of the 9/11 attacks. We mourned with the families who were lost on that day. I visited the graves of troops who made the ultimate sacrifice in Iraq and Afghanistan at the hallowed grounds of Arlington Cemetery, and had the opportunity to say thank you and visit some of our wounded warriors at Walter Reed. And then last night, we learned the news of this attack in Benghazi.

As Americans, let us never, ever forget that our freedom is only sustained because there are people who are willing to fight for it, to stand up for it, and in some cases, lay down their lives for it. Our country is only as strong as the character of our people and the service of those both civilian and military who represent us around the globe.

No acts of terror will ever shake the resolve of this great nation, alter that character, or eclipse the light of the values that we stand for. Today we mourn four more Americans who represent the very best of the United States of America. We will not waver in our commitment to see that justice is done for this terrible act. And make no mistake, justice will be done.

But we also know that the lives these Americans led stand in stark contrast to those of their attackers. These four Americans stood up for freedom and human dignity. They should give every American great pride in the country that they served, and the hope that our flag represents to people around the globe who also yearn to live in freedom and with dignity.

We grieve with their families, but let us carry on their memory, and let us continue their work of seeking a stronger America and a better world for all of our children.

Thank you. May God bless the memory of those we lost and may God bless the United States of America.

JohnDoe,

Terrorist attacks have been down to just a fraction of what they were under Bush and the repubs in the early 2000s, because Obama has been focused on preventing them instead of pursuing pet military projects for oil, etc. at a huge taxpayer expense. Never forget the largest terrorist attack in world history occurred under Bush on American soil in New York on 9/11/2011, and yet the patriotic democrats rallied around this president afterwards even though Bush had done nothing to prevent this horrendous attack in spite of much evidence. Even Clinton who the repubs sooooo maligned and hated prevented the threatened Y2k attacks with increased national security. Then even when Bush started a totally unnecessary war under false pretenses in Iraq the dems supported it because they believed it was part of the War on Terror at first. There were numerous attacks on foreign US interests and embassies under Bush and the repubs, and the dems did not politicize them as you and other repubs do! The lack of patriotism and corrupt manipulation of the public through lies that the repubs use in politicizing a terrorist attack is absolutely disgusting and self-defeating to our country.

They know how to spell his name that is another way of disrepecting him. But as I have said in the past whatever we decide this office should be will be where our next President will sit be it Gov. Romney or President Obama. If it is Romney I hope the republicans understand that they are the ones that made it the empty seat Romney will attempt to sit in. He will find the disrespect doesn't stop when President Obama leaves office now or four years later it will the permenant emptiness of the respect that once made us the Greatest Nation on Earth and was eradicated by the acts of our own citizens.

This includes the Romney Boys who feel as if only other parents children should face the horrors of war to protect their Dad. Instead of wanting to slap our POTUS why don't you desire to go fight for the rights of the America your Father wants to be Commander in Chief of. Respect is earned through deeds and actions not slander and disrespect. When we say Hail to the Chief it is in respect, something that needs to be taught from the lowest CItizen to the Romney Boys. That respect is for the POTUS whoever he is.. Who has forgotten that?

Speaking of responses, I am, personally, so weary of what has become the ho-hum, insincere, say-it-for-the-sake-of-saying-it response of, "Our thoughts and prayers are with....." as Paul Ryan did. This phrase is currently rattled off the top of the tongue by everyone in lieu of saying anything really sincere; it's exactly the same as people you don't know you say, "Hi, how are you?"---which, too, is rattled off as a greeting; not as a caring question.

This is the SECOND massacre in Brookfield this year & all Lyin Ryan has to say is he's saddenend?

I'm sure the families will find much comfort in his canned remarks!

*shakes head*

And how many shootings is that compared to Chicago with their strict gun control laws? You know that lil' o'l city right next door to you?

If he had said nothing, you would have been screaming about how insensitive he is.

Once again, Feisty enlightens the world with her brilliant comments.

Republicans want to guns the Saudi rebels... or should they just tell the rebels that guns don't kill people, people kill people, so they're good to go?

Yes, I'm sure Ryan is saddened. So saddened that the very instant this happened he had his handlers call the local press to take advantage of the situation with a quick press release... just to prove he's human.

Win/win for the NRA... campaign ads to scare people that Obama will restrict guns...

If Romney wins, then no gun control. If Obama wins. they sell more guns. What a bunch of ignorant greedy bastards. Anyone thinking their on any side other than their own is brain-dead.

We will not allow the evil responsible for this heartbreaking event to triumph over the spirit of the people of Wisconsin.

The evil of which you speak has a name: NRA

So what are you going to do about it, Ryan?

When are you going to call it out and stop supporting it? Maybe when it stops funding your campaigns?? You're in league with the devil, sonny, so quit with the fake sanctimony. You make me sick.

kaybeetoys, nobody is going to take your comments seriously until you start calling out beer sponsors for drunk driving accidents. You are seriously going to blame this on the NRA? They promote safety and firearms training quite heavily compared to the little teensy fine print beer advertisements with their one-liners: "drink responsibly, don't drink and drive."

    #1.75 - Mon Oct 22, 2012 7:30 AM EDT

Fear brought on by cable news entertainment and radio entertainment which profits from extreme bias talk about political views has brought on too much violence in our country, and MY fear is that there will continue to be sensless killings as long as the Tea Party, which is fueled by cable entertainment from Fox, and continued rhetoric from the likes of Rush Limbaugh incites this fear and hate, and the sell-out politicians who only see positional and financial opportunity, sell out to them.

My comments may bring a flood of backlash, but that will not change the truth.

P.O., it is a breath of fresh air to read a comment from a gun owner like yourself who isn't blinded by NRA B.S. I hope there are many more like you out there. Keep speaking the truth...you'll get plenty of support from the sane segment.

I grew up in a household with guns, with a dad and brothers who hunted. We all went along sometimes, the whole family. But my dad kept his guns unloaded and locked up, and he NEVER considered using them for self defense. That was an insane idea.

Gun sales started dropping off a couple decades ago. A gun is like a diamond: forever. How many guns can one person own? So the NRA launched their campaign of scaring Americans into thinking we all needed to be armed to the teeth. It's all about one thing: $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ The NRA is pure evil.

Respect is earned through deeds and actions not slander and disrespect.

Exactly. Excellent comment! If you want to be treated with respect, then act like a respectable human being. President Obama has handled himself with unfailing dignity and courage. He doesn't stoop to the level of Romney and his cowardly sons. I hope Romney's lack of respect for our president--and for everyone else-- earns him a trip home in a cage on the roof of his car.

Here we have the typical gun apologist's response: change the subject.

Sorry, Mr. Steady. We're discussing gun violence here. Agree or disagree, but make a valid argument for your side. Don't pivot away from the subject at hand.

We'll discuss alcohol when the topic is about alcohol. Now the subject is gun violence.

Are you also apologizing for tobacco companies and their fine print warnings on the package? They do so much to educate teenagers about the dangers of smoking, right?

Here we have a typical hysterical, blame everything but the problem liberal. I'm not changing the subject at all. I am simply pointing out the fallacy of blaming shooting deaths on the NRA. But, I would't expect you to understand an analogy, instead calling it changing the subject. Until we start changing society into one which takes responsibility for one's actions and learning self control of one's emotions, these events are going to continue to happen. All the gun control laws in the world aren't going to change that, much less disbanding the NRA.

Of course self-control of one's emotions is something that will never happen in the liberal world, where they base their whole viewpoint of life on emotionalism and feel-goodism, logic be damned.

    #1.78 - Mon Oct 22, 2012 7:58 AM EDT

So the problem is liberal emotionalism, Mr. Steady? All the shooters from all the recent incidents were liberals?

What do you call Ryan's response to yet another "senseless tragedy" if not useless emotionalism? It's a senseless tragedy because senseless people support gun violence. It's our right, didn't you know?

I suppose you have a program to end the lack of self control in American culture. You have a plan for Americans to take responsibility for their actions, before they shoot someone and not after? Great! Please share it with us!

And the NRA has no responsibility? They don't promote gun sales at gun shows? They don't encourage underage gun sales? They don't lobby for lax gun laws like the castle doctrine and ending the ban on assault weapons? They don't contribute millions to political campaigns? We are not owned by the NRA?

Of course self-control of one's emotions is something that will never happen in the liberal world, where they base their whole viewpoint of life on emotionalism and feel-goodism, logic be damned.

You speak of logic, but you think we can control the emotions of all of America. Rupert Murdoch (aka the Antichrist) and his Fox News channel is trying hard to control the minds of the populace, but not in favor of logic, reason or civility. Mind control is your solution? Or is it psychiatry? Religion?

In the conservative world, logic is thrown out the window and replaced by propaganda. Conservative feel-goodism comes from your superior knowledege that your god is the one true god and all non-believers will spend eternity burning in hell, humanity be damned.

I'll take liberalism over mind control, thanks.

As a matter of fact I do have a program. It's called parental discipline. It all starts right in the home. We have raised a whole generation of non-disciplined kids, thanks to the liberals screaming that spanking children leads to violence, when exactly the opposite is true. You show me a kid that has never had their a*s warmed and I'll show you the biggest brat you ever saw. I had more spankings growing up than I can even count, and I would be the last person to inflict harm on someone. When a child is disciplined, in love, he/she is secure because they know their boundaries. They will grow up to be respectful to authority, exercise self-control, and a benefit to society. But, I digress. I am totally off topic, but you asked.

What do you call Ryan's response to yet another "senseless tragedy" if not useless emotionalism? It's a senseless tragedy because senseless people support gun violence. It's our right, didn't you know?

Really?? The NRA promotes gun violence? Nobody promotes gun violence. That's like saying that supporting the right to choose means you are pro-abortion, something you libs get your panties in a twist about every time someone says it. Can you say hypocrite?

LmarcT, thought control is the last thing I would advocate. But we have a public education system that is so determined to teach that homosexuality is normal, God doesn't exist, and every other false teaching known to man and they don't even think to teach basic character qualities. When was the last time you heard of character being taught in schools? Oh, yes, that would have been about the time right before we decided to eliminate the Bible and prayer.

Now let the trashing on religion and Christianity begin. Go ahead, I know it's coming. Keep basking in your ignorance and denial of God and blaming the NRA for all our violence problems.

A conservative takes a stand against abortion, you label it as a war on women. A conservative disagrees with Obama, you label it racist. A conservative stands up for the right to bear arms and you call it promoting gun violence. A conservative stands up for Christianity and you label them as religious extremists. A conservative takes a stand against Islam, which is a true war on women and civil rights, and you label it as intolerant. And you say conservatives are guilty of mind control???? Unbelievable!!!!

As a matter of fact I do have a program. It's called parental discipline. It all starts right in the home.

Would that be the home where a woman is forced to bear the child of a rapist? The home where a man can rape and impregnate his own daughter? The home where a woman sacrifices her own life to save a fetus, leaving all her children without a mother?

Would that be the home where a woman earns 70 cents on the dollar for doing the same job as a man? The home where a same-sex couple can't adopt children, so kids are left in an orphanage or move from one foster care home to another?

We have raised a whole generation of non-disciplined kids, thanks to the liberals screaming that spanking children leads to violence, when exactly the opposite is true. You show me a kid that has never had their a*s warmed and I'll show you the biggest brat you ever saw. I had more spankings growing up than I can even count, and I would be the last person to inflict harm on someone.

Logically, it makes sense to you to teach a child by hitting him or her. That's your cure for our violent culture. And you think your solution is rational and logical.

There are far better ways to teach and to punish children than by promoting that a much larger, stronger person physically hurt a child. Read about the childhoods of serial killers, why don't you?

Often, serial killers exhibit three behaviors in childhood known as the MacDonald triad: bed-wetting, arson and cruelty to animals. They are also likely to have come from broken homes and been abused or neglected.

A conservative takes a stand against homosexuality you label it as hate.

Because it IS hate. It is no different than 'taking a stand' against someone who is born of a minority race, born with a physical handicap, or born poor.

Kids don't ask to be born homosexual. Logically, if some people CHOOSE to be LGBT, then the majority of us CHOOSE to be heterosexual.

When did you choose, Mr. Steady? Do you recall pondering your choice to be straight or gay? Was it a difficult decision for you? Were you filled with angst, self-doubt and despair? Did you ever consider just ending it all?

Probably not...because you knew you'd have a typical life and hopefully someday have a family. You'd never have to hide who you were, wonder why you were that way, or wish you could just be like everybody else. You'd never have to endure the hatred of the 'normal' people.

What did you say your religion was again?

You homosexual supporters all think you are so smart when you ask that question. In your mind you have just “proven” that it can’t be a choice because you “know” that the person can’t say they were born heterosexual. The problem is you assume that every person has to be one or the other. Who says? I could ask the same ridiculous question: “When did you choose to not be a pedophile or a murderer?” By your logic, a pedophile is born that way and they have no power to choose not to act on their “natural” instincts. So Dennis Rader was born a murderer and he had no choice but to kill people because he was born that way? In other words, by your logic you are either born a murderer or not. The simple answer to your snide question is that everyone chooses to do that which is natural or not. Everyone is born a heterosexual. Homosexuals and murderers simply choose to divert from that which is natural. The ironic fact is that you accuse those of us who oppose homosexuality to be narrow-minded, but in reality you are viewing the issue from your own narrow-minded viewpoint that sexual orientation must be either-or. It simply isn't so.

Disciplined in love, yes. Disciplined by violence and in anger, no.

Nowhere have I ever advocating disciplining a child in anger. Why do you think I worded it the way I did?

Often, serial killers exhibit three behaviors in childhood known as the MacDonald triad: bed-wetting, arson and cruelty to animals. They are also likely to have come from broken homes and been abused or neglected.

I have no disagreement with the above quote. I never advocated abuse or neglect. I am simply stating that a child left to his own devices with never any punishment will turn out to be just the type of person you cited as easily as one who has been abused.

Would that be the home where a woman is forced to bear the child of a rapist? The home where a man can rape and impregnate his own daughter? The home where a woman sacrifices her own life to save a fetus, leaving all her children without a mother?

Please show me a statistic where that is the rule rather than the exception. I have seen people on this board continually defaulting to the same argument as yours to justify abortion. It is only an excuse to justify a loose sex life without accepting the consequences. I really want to know how many billions, millions, or even thousands of women become pregnant each year due to rape or incest. If you can prove to me that the vast majority of unwanted pregnancies are due to those instances instead of careless sex, I might entertain some agreement on your viewpoint. I have a feeling you will find the number quite small. Again, show me some numbers to justify your position. And BTW, I have NO opposition to birth control. There is a hell of a big difference between PREVENTING a pregnancy and terminating one that has already occurred, just to set the record straight. Anyone who argues that there is no difference, then I would say to them they are also guilty unless they are having sex 24/7. Because not having sex is also preventing pregnancy, right?

First I don't condone any violence especially gun violence. It is all senseless to me. Over 30,000 Americans killed by guns annually in the USA most by their fellow citizens. While I am strongly on the side of the Democratic Party. I am also strongly behind the second amendment, however, I believe in responsible and legal gun ownership with heavy restrictions.

I am not naive to think that people won't use their legally owned gun against others or that they can't be stolen and used against innocent individuals.

There are numerous steps that we can take as a society to make it harder for unstable individuals to own. If you need to take a test to operate a car so should you need one to own a gun, along with a personality test and 2 to 3 month waiting period.

Ownersshould be required to use trigger locks and gun safes. I would also recommend no mags. holding more than 12 bullets. I would also suggest that one need a license/permit to buy bullets or bullet making ingredients that can be traced.

I would prohibit buyers other than legally registered gun shops owners or gunsmiths from buying at gun shows. No citizen should be able to own a automatic gun of any type or modify an existing gun so that it fires multiple bullets with one pull of the trigger. You should be fully aware that each time you pull the trigger you could potentially be killing someone and not just spraying bullets everywhere.

I would also hold owners of unsecured guns that used accidentally or with criminal intent to heavy penalties, jail time and forfeiture of their 2nd Amendment rights forever if found guilty.

I know that this is a very touchy subject on both side, however, there is a ton of middle ground that is still available to curtail some of the violence that we cause as citizens. Will it be perfect no with each side get what they want no - but doing nothing about the killing of over 30,000 Americans each year is unacceptable.

Self educated: Finally, a well thought-out and reasonable post. While, as an avid firearms owner and reloader, I don't agree with all your suggestions, I think some of them are reasonable and an acceptable middle ground. Thank you.

Guns have one function and one function only--to kill things--people, animals, signs, pick-up trucks, whatever.

Beer is a drink. Taken in moderation it is not harmful and quenches one's thirst. Anything can kill you in excess even water. Do you suggest we ban water?

A single bullet can kill an animal or a person.

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS MODERATION WITH GUNS.

I'm seriously beginning to think that to be a middle class conservative you have start with the premise that everyone is trying to sh*t on you and make you do something you don't want to do even if it isn't true and you have all the freedom in the world.

You then have to think that in order to get any respect at all, everyone in the world has to acknowledge your particular jones--guns, religion, too many kids, no sex for anyone, sex with as many kids as you like, whatever. And as soon as they say, hey do what you like, I don't care, you must immediately start screaming someone is trying to take away your rights until you are so irrational you need to be medicated(this of course explains the talk radio guys on the right)

At which point you are medicated and then you really start doing loony things like calling young girls testifying before congress whores and demanding to be allowed to sacrifice your virgin before a crowd at a football game while demanding the crowd cheer your act.

I mean what is it with you guys on the Right? Why do you think you get to tell everyone how to live their lives so it doesn't offend your eyes?

I have never heard so much bullcrap!

Why is it that the so-called Right Wing of politics is always talking about Liberty and freedom out of one side of their mouth while from the other electing A Holes that do nothing much but take all that away from us?

The worst is all the crap about what women may or may not do. Can any of you men imagine what it would be like to have the government mandate that you have a probe shoved up your ass or perhaps they did not insure your use of Viagra for free?

What the real deal with the Right is they want control which is exactly opposite of their BS they keep feeding us.

I'm thinking we still have not learned that since the Reagan administration everything is going to hell because of the connection to the religious bigots in their party and their false claims that they are for personal freedom and low spending. The BUSH/CHENEY GANG WENT TO WAR OFF BUDGET, and yet, as clear as that is to comprehend, if you have any brains at all, is that is why we are so far in debt. Obama put the wars back in the budget and now the dummies are screaming that Obama is at fault.

I'm not a big fan of Clinton or Obama but they are definitely for the people while the Republicans have given up on Conservatism and have become slaves of Big International Corporations out to skin us alive.

Come on folks, get some sense, while the Left is not the end all of anything, the right will take us down to becoming a low wage society and spending trillions on more war and in the end we will all OWE EVERYTHING AND OWN NOTHING

The way out of the mess we are in is through the Democrat Party, even as how horrible that may sound. There is no switch any president can throw that will fix anything. It is going to take time and if we are collectively stupid enough to have Romney in charge with that congress and the Supreme court, it will mark the end of freedom as we have enjoyed it for the most part.

OK...'government is good only as a tax guzzler' - that's my interpretation. But the Supreme Court did mention government failure to protect the people as justification for their ruling in 2010 - an expansive interpretation of the Second Amendment as freedom to own guns.

Romney delayed announcing his running mate so that Ryan could attend funeral services for the seven killed at the Sikh temple outside of Milwaukee.

And we should believe Willard because?......Oh, I know, because he says so!

The murderous shooting happened on Sunday 5 Aug and VP announcement on Saturday 11 Aug....so Willard knew his pick before 5 Aug?.......

Exactly what comments did Lyin Ryan make concerning the Sikh temple rampage?......Just askin'

perhaps Mr. Ryan could help out by washing some dishes....

or maybe keeping Obama care in tact so those injured can get the help they will need without losing their homes and savings and going bankrupt.

How about Mr. Ryan...........care to show how much you care by leaving Obama care alone?..........if not, a big fat check to cover medical expenses for those injured in this tragic event would be the next best thing.......I mean after all YOU got your great benefits package, why not share your fortune with those you seem to care so much about.

His reaction is relevant because that's what leaders are supposed to do. They come out to sympathize with the families affected and to offer that sympathy on behalf of the nation. Leaders are our spokespeople in times of tragedy. Even though we are in the midst of an incredibly partisan and nasty election, the American people still pull together to mourn senseless acts like the ones in Wisconsin and, recently Colorado.

I'm sure the President will speak as well. As he should.

Thoughts and prayers to the families of those killed, those who were wounded, and the people of Wisconsin and the country, who are likely shook up over yet another senseless act of violence.

This is where America's violence comes home, these small, out of the way places, a nutjob with a gun decides to make all his social problems vanish by killing himself after taking three or four with him. Without responsible leadership, the gun lobby keeps advocating more guns for more people, like if your sitting in a beauty salon with your glock 9mm by your side, you can stop these nutjobs, when they decide to take their bummer public. Chalk up another one for the NRA.

The man who did this horrible thing was "ordered" to turn over his weapons last week.

"Ordered." Even though he was proven to be a threat, a warrant was not issued, his home was not searched, and his weapons were not confiscated as they rightfully should have been.

We don't know how to enforce the law when it's a tug of war between protecting an individual's rights and protecting the public. In a case where threats have been made and there is imminent danger expressed by the court's actions (restraining order)... "Well, damn it, our right to bear arms comes first! Don't step on my rights!"

And then we have tragic results like this.

Quick America you need to pass a law to let people take their guns into spas to protect themselves!

Is their a statistic that shows how many acts of violence like this have been stopped because America's promotion of gun owner's rights.

Is it just a lot of tough talk, that people that carry guns think that, when a mad man bursts into a theater, school, spa, McDonald's etc , they will be able to defend themselves?

Wouldn't the US be better to relax drug laws and get tough on gun ownership.

            Wisconsin and guns.

When I grew up in Greenfield, SW Milwaukee, the guns were rifles and the hunting was deer. Failure to obey rules or displaying proper gun safety meant you sit home this deer season.

Times have changed. This has nothing to do with the NRA. We need restriction before we allow additional freedom. Our collective maturity demands it!

Paul Ryan is a good man I know he cares for all and his country. This is not a political situation and I don't see Ryan making it one, but some of you guys are.

BTW, you liberals are pathetic, only caring about Obama. It would be nice if he cared about us, since he is supposed to be our president. Since you guys have made this a political cause, I'm wondering where Obama is. He can't blame race, so maybe he could speak a few words on gun control...huh? I guess Fiesty Redhead and a few others are taking care of that for him. I will be glad when this Obama charade ends.

This senseless tragedy must have occurred because the victims failed. Their religion must have been weak. Their prayers must have been lacking. They either didn't believe in God, or believed in the wrong God. When the gun was pointed at them, they must not have prayed quickly or loudly enough. I hope God wasn't too busy to help them. Or maybe He wanted them to come home to be with him and the angels.

Don't let that happen to you. Pray!!!

It is true that guns don't kill........but crazies with guns sure do. And the bigger and faster firing the gun, the more they can kill. When ruling in favor of gun possession, the Supreme Court also stated that reasonable rules could be imposed on firearm possession. One such rule might be that everyone possessing a firearm be required to pass a sanity examination every few years.

I notice that a lot of people posting are mighty proud of their opinions, but not proud of their name. Why don't you use your real name?

Paul Ryan and Mitt Romney have received tens of millions in campaign donations from the National Rifle Association (NRA). The NRA has four million members, and the NRA is the tail that wags the elephant. As soon as President Obama announced that there was a strong reason to revisit the assault weapons ban, the NRA released $10 Million Dollars worth of attack adds against the POTUS. I would love to see the NRA Ads if, God Forbid, some nut job shot Paul Ryan. I picture the President of the NRA announcing that bad people kill, not assault weapons and handguns. As the NRA states, the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution was created for the protection of every American Citizen. So why is Paul Ryan so upset. As I see it, this was one more American Citizen using his right to bare arms, and now there is one less member of the NRA. I know, he was not a member of the NRA! Well, well, why is it that the NRA is not calling for the collection of weapons from anyone who is not a member of the NRA. Think about it, 4,000,000 weapons on the street instead of 400,000,000 weapons on the street.

Deeper issues here, seriously, why is it that many Americans consider violence as the first nd or last course of action to resolve a problem? Civilized countries use different means, how many gun deaths in "liberal" Europe, how many in Japan and Korea?

No, America and some if its populace is quite sick in the head.

I don't think the President keeps dodging the issue. There just hasn't been credible intelligence gathered as of yet. You have to remember that we are dealing with Libya here and there is little accountability there.

The administration also isn't try to cover up the incident. They can't and that's just the truth of it. The thing is we have to allow the State Department and Intelligence Committee to do their job first and once they come to a conclusion and present it to the president, I am certain you will hear about it.

The president has to allow others to do their job first. Remember in 2008 (I think) when he interfered with the police investigation and called their actions "stupid"? Le them do their job and until a final report has been presented, then we can debate the facts. Until then, we have no facts but the awful tragedy.

Really Paul ! Are you saying you are now for stricter gun control laws. Because these lack gun laws have lead to more and more senseless killings. The number of times a gun has been used in self-defense is almost nil.

Republican's started a lie back just after Obama was elected that he was going to over haul the gun laws he even said that he had no plans to at the time because there were more crucial issues that needed to be Celt with. Yet, the sale of guns have gone through the roof.

Who supports the NRA and ends up making a lot of money through the sale of guns.. the wealthy Republican companies who don't care how many people die as long as their profit margin is through the roof.

Plus, with all of the crimes now being committed where guns are involved.... They are filling the Private prisons. Who wanted to privatize prisons. .... The Republican Party. In fact, those who prisons were told they could guarantee that these new prisons would be filled either by crimes involving guns and rounding up undocumented workers to fill these private prisons.

Who is paying for all of these prisons? WE ARE!!!

Now onto education. The Bush Administrations "No CHILD LEFT BEHIND" culminated in leaving College graduates without a job. Why! The Sciences were not funded in Public Schools so we now have fewer Doctors. Fewer knowledgable enough to create new technologies. They also stopped funding Art programs as well

Now we have a million new journalists when the Newspaper industry is dying and blogs are replacing journalists. All of this is being a carried out online for free. Why hire journalists.

I hope more people will take a closer look at what has really been happening in this country as a result of people being sold a bill of goods by the Republican Party all all along.

If those still want to be coerced into believing that the Republican Party has your bet interest at heart..... And you believe all of the edited reports you have listened coming out of FoxNews, you deserve to have to pay more taxes in the next few years in order to pay for the profits made by Big Businesses during the Bush Administrations practices.

Even Romney got it wrong about Lybia during the debate because he didn't even know that Fox had edited out the part of the video where President Obama had called the attack an "Act of Terror. It made Romney look like an idiot and he didn't even know why.

As I read the hundreds of comments from the intellectually superior, tolerant, forgiving, accepting, empathic, Progressives/Liberals it confirms My decision three years ago to register as an Independent instead of a Democrat and stop voting along party lines.

What happened to the Democratic party?

I voted for Bill Clinton Twice because I believed he was the better candidate even in 1996 during the Monika Lewisnky thing, I always voted for Democrats for House and Senate members etc.

Basically I voted along party lines, I voted Democrat.

I will argue that Bill Clinton is still the Best President we have had in a Long time.

I believed Republicans were greedy politicians that only looked out for themselves, the rich, corporations etc. I believed all the Lefts talking points and stereo types about Conservatives while accepting as truth their own descriptions of themselves as being for the common people, Protecting the poor and middle class, only serving the interests of the people, etc.

Maybe I just felt that if I said I was a Democrat, Progressive, Liberal etc. that would somehow mean I was intellectually superior, more tolerant, forgiving etc. and a better human being who cared for others?

I believe in God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit, the Divine trinity, but I haven't been to a Church in two decades because I believe organized religion has become corrupt. That's not God's fault that's Humanities fault. I can't blame God or Jesus, and why should I lose faith in them, because of Humanities shortcomings?

Isn't that the message from God? Treat others the way you want to be treated? Help others when you can? Do no Harm? Respect everyone and everything and don't judge others because that is God's job not yours? Turn the other cheek?

Isn't that basically the same as the Progressive/Liberal Message about tolerance, respect, etc.?

Three years ago, because of the health care debate, I started following and researching Politics in more than just a passing interest. After all I have children, and the ACA was going to impact every citizen, and 1/6 of our economy, and I Have a duty to my children to leave the country better than when we inherited it if we can. At the very least not cause any damage to it and leave it in the same condition that we received it in.

I created a Newsvine account, I even wrote a couple of articles, I participated in many of the discussions just as we are doing now. What surprised me was how different my views and opinions were from those that considered themselves on the Left, Liberal, or Progressive.

I was shocked at how many "Republicans are Racists", "Tea Baggers are Homophobes", "Conservatives are all Bigots" etc articles were constantly being written on the Vine to try and stereotype them. I would post a comment and if it wasn't in agreement with the Left I would get called a Tin foil hat wearing, Racist, Homophobe, hater, etc.

But wait a minute I always voted Democrat, I consider myself a Liberal, I don't believe in the Church, I think we have an obligation to help the poor, abortion is a choice, etc. Why am I being called a Racist, Biggot, hater, etc simply because my opinion isn't the same?

                      Is something wrong with Me?

Aren't Progressives, Liberals, supposed to be the forgiving, tolerant, intelligent ones that have compassion and understanding so why am I being attacked for my views simply because others don't agree with them?

Does being a "Progressive" or a "Liberal" mean I have to Lie about Conservatives? Do I have to make stuff up that isn't true? Do I have to try and stereotype them and call them Racists, Biggots, etc even though I know that's not true?

Does being a progressive mean pretending to be something your really not, tolerant, Respecting, understanding, forgiving, intellectual, etc.?

Just look at all the comments about Ryan here on this discussion. All the Lies, Made up facts, Distortions, ridicule, etc. that's being done by Liberal/Progressives.

I would be ashamed to call myself a Democrat, Liberal, or Progressive now that I have seen what they truly are, stand for, and my eyes have opened.

That is why I am now a Proud Independent.

I can have my conservative views, I can have my liberal views, and if you don't like them to God Damn Bad.

Call me a Racist, Bigot, Homophobe, Wing Nut, Republican, Extremist, etc. because it doesn't bother me one damn bit and all your doing is reinforcing my new found discovery, actually 3 years old now, that Progressives/Liberals are no more tolerant, Intellectual, etc than any other group of people.

In a Way they are even worse because they are the ones pretending to be something their not which is why I won’t pretend to be one and would be ashamed to call myself one.

                      @ Aunt Anna

Chicago isn't even the "murder capital" of the United States, let alone the world.

                      Fail.

                      @David Noah

You hate the vitriol of the Left so much that you are now and Independent. OK. I notice however that whenever you post on here you never seem to have a cross word for the Right in any of your posts. I guess you've never noticed the legions of folks on the Right in this forum who call anyone of the Left a "libtard",or "handouter",or assume we have no jobs or ambition.

You know, the very same Right that has as at least 33% of it's membership a group of wonderfully tolerant individuals who consider the President an illegal alien Muslim.

Seems to me that your sense of outrage is...shall we say selective?

Oh and BTW bright eyes...you voted for Clinton in '96 despite the fact that the "Lewinsky thing" was out there?

That's an "interesting" statement seeing as the Lewinsky scandal never became public until January 17,1998 when the Drudge Report published an article on it,saying that Newsweek was squelching Michael Isikoffs' story on the affair. The mainstream media then largely began running with the story on January 21.

So you being so prescient and all...any line on the Lions/Bears game tomorrow night? Since you can see into the future and everything I figure I can make a killing.

Nothing will change until the people force Congress to face the NRA and say enough. Since neither side has the will (in lieu of a more appropriate, but base word), the shootings will go on and on and on. We as a people have no one to blame but ourselves.

I was simply explaining my personal epiphany and why I changed. I have no love affair of the right.

If you want to call out the Right for their language then go ahead. Why don't you start with Obama calling Romney "Robme" and "Romnesia"?

I don't seem to recall Romney making up derogatory terms about Obama, having a Senate Majority leader on the Senate floor accusing Obama of not paying taxes in a Decade without any proof whatsoever, saying Obama has "sullied" Christianity etc.. If I'm wrong feel free to post them.

I never knew how many sick, bitchy people live in this country until I started reading some of these postings. It's just amazing! "Leave it up to the liberal forum trolls to try and politicize a tragedy". Who wines more than the Conservatives? What about Lybia? They wine about that on a daily basis. Get over it!

How about we talk about the 47,000 Hispanics that have died in Mexico's drug war from the cartels fighting for the best drug smuggling routes into the U.S.?

Lets not go into the Fast and Furious scandal and just think about all the Hispanics that are Killed every day because our government refuses to or is incapable of securing our Borders and enforcing our Immigration laws.

Tomorrow night I hope this comes up because it is an issue of foreign policy and national security.
