NBC/WSJ poll: Presidential contest now tied

NBC's David Gregory makes sense of new polls showing conflicting leads in the 2012 presidential race.

Heading into Monday's final debate and with just over two weeks until Election Day, President Barack Obama and Republican nominee Mitt Romney are now tied nationally, according the latest NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll.

Obama and Romney both get 47 percent among likely voters in the latest edition of the poll, conducted entirely in the aftermath of the second presidential debate last Monday. In the last national NBC/WSJ poll, which was conducted before debate season began, the president held a narrow, three-point lead over his GOP challenger, 49 percent to 46 percent.

But among the wider pool of all registered voters in this new survey, Obama is ahead of Romney by five points, 49 percent to 44 percent.

Looking at some of the most important demographic groups, Romney leads among men (53 percent to 43 percent), Obama is up with women (51 percent to 43 percent) and they are essentially tied among voters in the Midwest.

The full poll — which was conducted Oct. 17-20 among 1,000 registered voters and 816 likely voters — will be released at 6:30 pm ET tonight.

The margin of error is plus-minus 3.1 percentage points for the sample of registered voters and plus-minus 3.43 percentage points for the sample of likely voters.

I don't understand this.

Republicans like Paul Ryan Lie about our President 's economic and Foreign Policy hoping it will stick. It is a shame they are politicizing Bengazi. They didn't do it when GW Bush Lied to us about Iraq. WE should be coming together to get the killers like we did after 9-11. Besides the family is grieving and has asked these hateful fear mongering jackasses to stop it.

Mitt Romney's Easy Five-Step Approach to Foreign Policy

STEP 1: Get the Facts Wrong
STEP 2: Undermine Lone-Standing Relationships With Your Allies
STEP 3: Frequently Highlight Your Lack of Experience
STEP: 4 Assemble A team of Ideologues Committed to Endless Wars
STEP: 5 Mistake Your Enemies

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=x-jY7ZkRqb4

Come On Mitt Think MITT is not the only one who needs to think.
It's also the people who:

a) have not researched his blunders. The fact that he is a vulture capitalistic and has a record of Bain capital shipping jobs overseas, case in point, Sensata Technologies will go to China the day before the election. That veil of mystery is what Romney does; he lies to the American to their faces daily.

b) Do know but hate President Obama so much they will sacrifice themselves and this country to put Mitt in Office.

When the poll numbers are so close, it is more than troubling that Tagg Romney now owns HART intercivic, the company that owns the voting machines in Ohio, Colorado, and other states. These machines are proven to be easily hackable and there's no paper trail. These same machines provided a middle of the night 5 point shift from Kerry to Bush in 2004, a statistical impossibility. The software cannot be inspected because it has been deemed proprietary.

And as we speak Romneys vulture business Bain Capitol which he is still a huge shareholder is dismantling and shipping American jobs from a profitable U.S. company(Sensata) to China. Romney is the most ruthless and despicable type of business man in our country and the right wants him to be our president. I hope all you conservatives are willing to move to China if you still want your job.

On the day before an election that's supposed to hinge on jobs, taxes and the middle class, Bain Capital, the company Mitt Romney founded, will close the doors of a factory in Freeport, Illinois, and ship 170 good, high-tech jobs to China.

The employees of Sensata Technologies were forced to train their Chinese replacements, and the American flag that long flew over the factory was reportedly removed while the Chinese engineers were visiting the site. A group of workers have set up camp across from the factory -- calling it “Bainport” -- and some supporters have tried to block the trucks hauling equipment out of the plant. According to Dave Johnson, there have been several arrests.

Sensata workers have asked to meet with Mitt Romney and hoped to enlist his help keeping their jobs in the United States, but he has refused, instead remaining on the campaign trail where he speaks often about “getting tough” with China.

The most important part of the story is that Sensata Technologies is profitable operating in Illinois. Net income last year was $355 million, up 16 percent from 2010. The company reported total revenues of $1.8 billion in 2011, up almost 19 percent from the year before. According to a company financial statement, “both 2011 net revenue and adjusted net income represent record levels for the company.”

So this has nothing to do with “making hard choices” in the process of turning around a failing business, which is how the Romney campaign describes Bain's corporate raiding. Bain's partners are looking for a modest boost in profits by locating the plant closer to the booming Asian automotive market (Sensata makes high-tech automotive parts). They'll get a small tax break for relocating the plant – the one Mitt Romney insisted did not exist during the first debate – and possibly defer taxes on some of the income the company generates.

regardless of polls

This recently retired from 22+ years in military and living in VA individual will vote for Obama for the first time.

romney's tax plan cut numbers do not add up - I'm convinced that tax cuts - trickle down will not work -- this and the effect since reagan. we need a pragmatic balanced approach that get us more revenue via tax reform or tax increase in some way plus hard choices on spending cuts to include the military.

To a balance and long term sustainable fiscal place "everyone has to take some pain for their "wants".

plus after the last decade the "warhawk" talk scares me and should others

not all that happy with either choice, but going for the less likely potential damage.

The real problem is congress and the extremes and I must say I'm for getting into a balanced fiscal state - but do not beleive the tea party / norquist extremes is good for us...

Here is Nobama's plan.

1. Go on an apology tour in the Middle East. Apologize for who we are, and what we do here in the USA.

2. Next, weaken our stockpile of nuclear weapons (while other countries do NOT follow suit), as well as military funding and strength.

3. Watch as Iran and other aggressively-led, offensive countries seek Nuclear capability, and military strength as we continue to weaken.

4. Push for a health care policy which is as divisive among party lines as it can get. Supported nearly 100% by democrats only, this healthcare plan known as "Nobamacare" has not brought the parties together. Oddly, Romney pledges to bring the parties together and work together on bills, not against the other, as Nobama has with his Nobama care plan.

5. Added many trillions of dollars to our national debt in only 4 years. More than doubled it, actually.

6. Refused to provide adequate support to a foreign embassy which needed it, resulting in the death of four great American people, then proceeds to lie to all of us, including at the debate last Monday.

7. Gave 90 billion dollars of our tax money to green companies, many of which were contributors to his campaign and close friends, by the way, only to watch them go bankrupt. Interesting.

8. Invites people to have beer at the White House. It doesn't get more disrespectful than that.

9. Allows his wife to break debate rules by clapping for him in order to attempt to influence the 70 million people watching it.

10. Does not know the economy well enough to debate with someone. Does not understand fundamental economic terms and factors.

11. Tells black people in a 2003 speech that the government is racist and does not like black people.

I have much more but I am really tired. This list can go on an on.

Please can someone tell me how Mitt Romney is a "job creator"? Bain is not a company that ever tried to help failing companies become successful but rather a company that finds companies that have assets that can be taken out of them. The proof of this is that Bain ALWAYS MAKES MONEY off the company whether the company thrives or goes under. If the company ends up successful, (Staples) that's just a coincidence. If the company goes under and there's a pension fund that can be raided, that's fine with Bain. If Bain can increase their bottom line by outsourcing American jobs, that's even better! Romney was NEVER a "job creator", but an exploiter, like Newt Gingrich and Rick Perry said.

The people that are voting for Mitt Romney do not realize that he does not care for the people,. He constantly flip flops. He has an uneven temper, and he "promises"to do everything without any money borrowed from China.

Are you people NUTS? How is he going to "fix"the economy" I am telling you how: He is going to RIP OFF the environment. I guess none of you care about the long term consequences of continuing drilling for oil. Your children will pay the price for this. Romney is only interested in getting people "working"as soon as possible by dismantling the PROTECTIVE BARRIERS, such as the EPA and others.

All of those that lost family members because of the meningitis vaccines is just a SAMPLE of what is coming if MittRomney wins.

Truedat - the supposed 'job creator' has so much disdain for the American people, his company has not even stopped outsourcing jobs to China. Right now, in Freeport, IL, Bain Capital is closing down a profitable manufacturing plant, and is going to lay off all the American employees. http://bainport.com/

They are so arrogant, they didn't even wait until after the election. They are banking on the stupidity of the voting public, and with polls tied, there are no shortages of stupidity.

We're workers at Bain Capital-owned Sensata, 2520 Walnut St, Freeport, Illinois. We're fighting to save our jobs from being shipped to China by the end of this year. We are calling on Mitt Romney to come to Freeport, IL and we will camp across the street from our plant for as long as it takes!

These are not unemployed bums. They have a job - until Bain closes the plant. While Romney talks about saving American jobs, Bain Capital continues outsourcing American jobs to China. Why is this not headline news? It is in direct contradiction to every political stance Romney has firmly stated. (Yes, I know he has not committed to much.)

The GOP has become the paid lapdog of billionaires. They can't even see that it's destroying the country. Some examples of corporate welfare gone nuts. 6 members of the Walmart family are worth over 100 billion dollars.Their workers pay and benefits are so low that these people often still qualify for foodstamps and medicaid. So you've got the taxpayer paying the benefits of working poor as the Walton family net worth goes up another 10 billion $ a year. Caterpillar corporation is doing extremely well, something like 6 billion in profits last year and it will be more this year. They decided they were going to insist on a pension freeze and 6 year pay freeze for their workers. The workers went on strike for 4 months but you didn't hear much about it in the corporate owned media. The workers finally agreed to this unfair concession rather than lose their jobs. So now when this worker (who was promised a pension and cheated out of it by Caterpillar) needs assistance after retirement, it will be you and me will that will foot the bill for it as taxpayers. I could give you examples like this all day long.

Just so I have this stright....when Obama was leading big in the polls, it was the will of the American people, but when Romney closes the gap, or even ties in some polls, then the polls are flawed and meaningless....did I get that right?

The President is 0/2 in the debates. Say what you will about the second one (at least he didnt just roll over and die like in the first)...but every question that was asked he hit every talking point EXCEPT what the question was about...when he wasnt being saved by the 'moderator'. I am STILL waiting for the answer about his Energy Secretary's comment regarding fuel prices, his answer on Benghazi, his answer on Tuition and his answer on Tax rates. NE NEVER ANSWERED THE QUESTIONS.

SteelerNation1 - you would make a far better arguemnet if your dismissive points about President Obama weren't filled with falsehoods and simple opinion. Examples:

1 - "Apology tour" has been debunked many times

2 - President Obama has ordered staff to review disarmanent options only. Nothing has happened.

3 - Funny how Gov. Romney has stated publically that he would follow the same polical/trade course that is currently in effect through President Obama's policies.

4 - I'm sure you know that the Obamacare Plan is based on "Romneycare" and was in fact first proposed by the Heritage Organization? Yet, the bi-partisanship was missing simply because of the decision by the Republicans to deliberately obstruct the President?

5 - "More than doubled it" is a lie.

6 - Check your facts, sir. The refusal to provide additional funding for security was made by both Republicans and Democrats. I also suggest you actually read the transcripts and subsequent discussions on literal statements.

I could also go on. But my point is made that your post is factually incorrect and opinion based rather than a true discussion of the situations you specified.

Here is the endorsement from Salt Lake City Tribune and no one could have put the pros and cons of each candidate more succinctly than this newspaper (except of of course president Clinton during the Democratic Convention). I encourage all the Americans to read it and decide why extending the contract for President Obama for four more years is good for the country, good for women, and good for the world. If we as Americans do that, we would be on a renaissance to American resurgence like we had under President Clinton.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Salt Lake City Tribune endorsement: Too Many Mitts and Obama has earned another term

First Published Oct 19 2012 12:13 pm •

Nowhere has Mitt Romney's pursuit of the presidency been more warmly welcomed or closely followed than here in Utah. The Republican nominee's political and religious pedigrees, his adeptly bipartisan governorship of a Democratic state, and his head for business and the bottom line all inspire admiration and hope in our largely Mormon, Republican, business-friendly state.

But it was Romney's singular role in rescuing Utah's organization of the 2002 Olympics from a cesspool of scandal, and his oversight of the most successful Winter Games on record, that make him the Beehive State's favorite adopted son. After all, Romney managed to save the state from ignominy, turning the extravaganza into a showcase for the matchless landscapes, volunteerism and efficiency that told the world what is best and most beautiful about Utah and its people.

In short, this is the Mitt Romney we knew, or thought we knew, as one of us.

Sadly, it is not the only Romney, as his campaign for the White House has made abundantly clear, first in his servile courtship of the tea party in order to win the nomination, and now as the party's shape-shifting nominee. From his embrace of the party's radical right wing, to subsequent portrayals of himself as a moderate champion of the middle class, Romney has raised the most frequently asked question of the campaign: "Who is this guy, really, and what in the world does he truly believe?"

The evidence suggests no clear answer, or at least one that would survive Romney's next speech or sound bite. Politicians routinely tailor their words to suit an audience. Romney, though, is shameless, lavishing vastly diverse audiences with words, any words, they would trade their votes to hear.

More troubling, Romney has repeatedly refused to share specifics of his radical plan to simultaneously reduce the debt, get rid of Obamacare (or, as he now says, only part of it), make a voucher program of Medicare, slash taxes and spending, and thereby create millions of new jobs. To claim, as Romney does, that he would offset his tax and spending cuts (except for billions more for the military) by doing away with tax deductions and exemptions is utterly meaningless without identifying which and how many would get the ax. Absent those specifics, his promise of a balanced budget simply does not pencil out.

If this portrait of a Romney willing to say anything to get elected seems harsh, we need only revisit his branding of 47 percent of Americans as freeloaders who pay no taxes, yet feel victimized and entitled to government assistance. His job, he told a group of wealthy donors, "is not to worry about those people. I'll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives."

Where, we ask, is the pragmatic, inclusive Romney, the Massachusetts governor who left the state with a model health care plan in place, the Romney who led Utah to Olympic glory? That Romney skedaddled and is nowhere to be found.

And what of the president Romney would replace? For four years, President Barack Obama has attempted, with varying degrees of success, to pull the nation out of its worst financial meltdown since the Great Depression, a deepening crisis he inherited the day he took office.

In the first months of his presidency, Obama acted decisively to stimulate the economy. His leadership was essential to passage of the badly needed American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Though Republicans criticize the stimulus for failing to create jobs, it clearly helped stop the hemorrhaging of public sector jobs. The Utah Legislature used hundreds of millions in stimulus funds to plug holes in the state's budget. The president also acted wisely to bail out the auto industry, which has since come roaring back. Romney, in so many words, said the carmakers should sink if they can't swim.

Obama's most noteworthy achievement, passage of his signature Affordable Care Act, also proved, in its timing, his greatest blunder. The set of comprehensive health insurance reforms aimed at extending health care coverage to all Americans was signed 14 months into his term after a ferocious fight in Congress that sapped the new president's political capital and destroyed any chance for bipartisan cooperation on the shredded economy.

Obama's foreign policy record is perhaps his strongest suit, especially compared to Romney's bellicose posture toward Russia and China and his inflammatory rhetoric regarding Iran's nuclear weapons program. Obama's measured reliance on tough economic embargoes to bring Iran to heel, and his equally measured disengagement from the war in Afghanistan, are examples of a nuanced approach to international affairs. The glaring exception, still unfolding, was the administration's failure to protect the lives of the U.S. ambassador to Libya and three other Americans, and to quickly come clean about it.

In considering which candidate to endorse, The Salt Lake Tribune editorial board had hoped that Romney would exhibit the same talents for organization, pragmatic problem solving and inspired leadership that he displayed here more than a decade ago. Instead, we have watched him morph into a friend of the far right, then tack toward the center with breathtaking aplomb. Through a pair of presidential debates, Romney's domestic agenda remains bereft of detail and worthy of mistrust.

Therefore, our endorsement must go to Barack Obama, the incumbent, a competent leader who, against tough odds, has guided the country through catastrophe and set a course that, while rocky, is pointing toward a brighter day. The president has earned a second term. Romney, in whatever guise, does not deserve a first.

Bad news for Obama.

If NBC has them tied using the artificially skewed polls that dramatically over-sample Democrats, it probably means that Romney is ahead by about 5% - In fact, Gallup, which had a strong Democratic bias in 2004 & 2008 has Romney ahead by 6% nationwide. Rasmussen, who had the best record among major pollsters for 2004 & 2008 (and the least biased) has Romney ahead by 4% in the all-important 'Swing States'.

PS - Marist, who NBC uses for its polling, has one of the worst track records of all the major pollsters - in fact, they projected Kerry winning in 2004 by 1%, but Bush actually won by 2.4% - a whopping 3.4% error.

Your hateful rhetorical lies make you and your base look really bad.

I have been on newsvine a while and, as an independent voter, it is post like yours that make me swing to the right....you show the true colors of a liberal .

You definitely know how to disenfranchise your base. That is why your polls are shifting...joe public can smell liars, haters and loud mouths preaching intolerance.

Instead of BASHING YOUR OPPONENT in the face with LIES how about speaking with civility and telling us President Obamas strengths.

You speak very slanderous and foul mouthed, you lie and scream your hate, and so does your base, and that is why it is going south for you.

The sad part is that only about 1/5 of the voting public watched any of the three debates so far and yet have made up their minds by being ill informed as to what the candidates want and stand for. Of course, with the republicans changing their stance from debate to debate I can see why I wouldn't watch, but then I know the facts and how they are all over the place trying to win votes from poorly informed voters!

Is that True?

Is that really True that one of Mitt Romney's kids wants to "take a swing" at President Obama?

Is it even Legal to publically state that you want to Hit a standing President?

I too read that article and then reflected back to something Hilary said, "Candidates need to appeal to their base, during the primary, in order to get on the ticket ."

Given the 2010 Tea Party landslide against O's presidency, it is no wonder, Mitt had to adapt to some degree. It is disappointing, but that is how politics work.

Mickey, how does the blinding power of ideology work again? I said the President did better in the second debate, but still did not 'win it'. He didnt answer the questions, but rather stuck to his talking points. Go back and look at it. BTW, lovely reference to Fox News. I dont watch it, or read from their website.

The CNN moderator did everything she could to protect the President...notice the number of times she interruped each person...I think it was something like 29 to 8. Not to mention her flat distortion of facts. I watched the President go over his allotted time by atleast 45 seconds on more than one occasion with no interruption, and watched the President do what he does best; dance around the question at hand.

I am not a die hard Republican....while I do admit to leaning a little right of center on most issues, I have a voting record on both sides of the aisle, depending on the candidate. I have not seen this President do anything effective to move us to the right track. I am sorry if you cant see anything past the (D) or (R) following someones name.

Not only did Tagg Romney want to hit the President, he has bought HART intercivic, the company that owns the voting machines that are being used in Ohio, Colorado, Washington and more states. This was a leveraged buyout that started with a $10 million investment from Anne Romney's "blind" trust. Only the company has access to the software as it is proprietary. These machines are easy to hack and were at the core of the mysterious 5 point shift from Kerry to Bush in the middle of the night in '04. A dirty business indeed.

This election is more then a election for a president you will be voting for the future of America either as a free and capitalist nation or as a communist nation, Obama is the guy that is pushing people off the platform and on to the tracks as the subway goes by, he has his agenda and it has nothing to do with democracy he could care less about that or capitalism he lives to fulfill his fathers dream, if he wins this election you will meet the real Obama, a man you have never seen before and you will see that its Michelle that wears the pants in the white house, and Obama will do her bidding. there plan is to destroy America as we know it and establish a communist regime in its place that will eventually lead to one world order, even his logo symbolizes the sun rising in the west a prophesy of doom.

The O = Obama.

The red and white stripes = the west.

The blue represents the sky.

The white center represents the Sun.

The Sun is rising in the west look that one up!

The power of symbolism to some is is paramount, the swastika was in a circle, the crescent is in fact a circle, the USSR hammer and sickle a circle, you ask a Muslim what Obamas symbol means and he will tell you, and you will not like the answer's.

A vote for Obama is a no vote for America. now I have a question for Rose, Bev and that Tony Beeerm why is the cost of a can of Tuna more then doubled since Obama took office and the price of gasoline more then doubled and the cost of everything else has doubled, while the government claims that the overall inflation is less then 4% over the four years, why is it that I can only afford half as much at twice the cost, I was doing much better before this guy came along, why is it that the Democrats get busy screwing things up and then blame it on the Republicans, the Democratic party is so overrun with communist that it counts as two parties.

Obama has failed the American people why should I risk four more years with him? we cant handle four more years of his failure.

just what is it that they are putting in your kool aid that makes you so stupid?

That's the sort of response I would expect. When Romney loses the debate, you start looking for excuses as to why he really won, blaming the moderator for being partial and nit-picking statistics to "prove" it. Why is it that Republicans always like to talk about accepting personal responsibility for our actions, but they never want to practice it? Always blame someone else seems to be their motto.

The polls have been skewed for weeks in Obama's favor, but now with reliable polls like Gallup showing a vastly different race the mainstream in the tank for Obama polls are adjusting. The logic of their polling has been that people want to voter for the winner, and if Obama is shown to lead in the polls that will be a boost in the voting. But since Gallup has a long history of successfully predicting presidential outcomes that these other fly by night polling operations do not, they have to start adjusting to save any future credibility.

The nation sees Obama as a failure with no vision for a brighter future, and his campaign is all about trash talk and attacking rather then laying out a plan people can believe in. Obama made endless promises in 2008 and lived up to almost none, so with Obama talk is cheap and the blame and excuses are no longer selling. Maybe if the mainstream media had actually done its job and held Obama accountable over the past four years, he would not have to run from his record. All Obama has left is to try and con his way to a second term, because he certainly hasn't earned it.

I am neither a R or a D. I did find the last debate interesting. One of the people who were chosen to ask questions...asked Obama. "Why was the request for more security in Libya denied and who is responsible for denying it?" Obama, like a good politician, sidestepped it completely and did not answer a direct question. This is not who I want as a leader for my country. I know of no other important high level job where you can blame all your failures over the last four years on the person who had the job before you. Could you get away with this on your job?

I feel like I am on a ship that everyone knows is sinking. Next to this ship is one that may or may not sink. So what is the logical thing to do? Stay and drown or jump and maybe have a chance.

Obama ran on the "Time for a change" ticket. He neglected at that time to say that the "change" would be from bad to worse. 47,000,000 people on food stamps? Are you kidding me?

I am a fiscal conservative, social moderate...Romney, then and now,...still represents me. I see the bigger picture.

I have difficulty believing this. Governor Romney has no economic plan that is comprehensible to any analyst. President Obama, on the other hand, has proven himself to be a fiscal conservative by reducing taxes and reducing the deficit at the same time - a very impressive feat in its own right.

I am also a fiscal conservative, but I can see no sign of any convincing fiscal conservatism in Governor Romney's stated policies. Maybe he has some top secret plan that will become evident after he is elected but I am very dubious of the slogan "Mitt Romney: You have to elect him to find out what he is for."

Mr Romney also comes from a party that has a well-earned reputation of economic hypocrisy - yelling loudly about being fiscal conservatism while at the same time spending money hand over fist. Remember that it is a Democrat President, Bill Clinton, who had the only non-deficit period in our generation.

If you want to know what the Republican party really thinks about fiscal conservatism, you can hear it from Vice President Chaney, who, despite everything else that can be said about him, was undeniably an honest man:

You know, Paul, Reagan proved that deficits don't matter. We won the mid-term elections, this is our due.

"According to a report published by the Free Beacon in April, the 2011 annual report on White House staff revealed that the median annual salary for female White House employees was 18 percent less than male employees — $60,000 compared to $71,000."

Yes, all (misleading) talk and no action from Obama (again).
However, apart from Obamas serious deficiencies the real problem is the democrat's policies and philosophies do NOT produce success because it does not support success.
I can elaborate the case if you don't believe it.

Even with the big problems and controversy that exists here, I still agree. America is the land of the free. Just watch the nightly news. In so many foreign countries, people cannot speak their mind or practice their own religion without fear of being persecuted, ostracized, or murdered.

Griffin openly announced that the then called MSNBC would follow a progressive/liberal ideology and if that meant deliberately skewing public viewing programs, political programs, hiring the most liberal commentators and liars and deliberately skewing polls to benefit the loonie leftists so be it.

Time and again NBC/WSJ polls have always favored the left. Other polls today give Romney up to 7% advantage.

Of course this poll is about as truthful as our president and the redhead are...which is to say it isn't and they aren't. Feisty usually has a line on First Read but always denies having anything to do MSNBC/NBC. Of course, that's the main problem with our president and feisty. The lies...

"Feisty usually has a line on First Read but always denies having anything to do MSNBS/NBC. Right Feisty?"

Why does everyone pick on Feisty? She isn't the only one who hates Republicans, you know. Just look around you at some of the other posts on this blog, including mine.

Always blame someone else seems to be their motto.

The hypocrisy is simply astounding. You must be referring to the current administration. Please, give me a President who has EVER pointed the finger as much as the current one. It's simple to say 'look at what I inherited'... No one, I repeat, no one held a gun to his head and forced him to run for office. President Obama has failed to put a dent in unemployment, rising energy costs or the deficit (which has ballooned).

" If I don’t have this done in three years, then there’s going to be a one-term proposition.” Remember who said this? Or does this have to be spelled out to you also?

      Independent Thought

It is no wonder, Mitt had to adapt to some degree. It is disappointing, but that is how politics work.

I am a fiscal conservative, social moderate...Romney, then and now,...still represents me. I see the bigger picture.

Dude, You are neither Independent nor has given any thought to selecting the right person as our President for next four years; not because you disagree with me, but because you said, that's how politics work (i.e. flip flopping, nor letting people know what one stands for, shallow answers to questions - aka binders full of women remark, etc.)

You are no fiscal conservative. Trust me, if you are one, you would have loudly pointed out that Ryan and the entire gang of Republicans voted to give tax breaks to the wealthy, when the Country was about to embark on balancing the federal budget and thus negating all the efforts Bill Clinton took us towards the path of fiscal conservatism. We are still paying for those tax cuts to the wealthy and the two unwanted, unfunded wars with borrowed money and on and on, I can go. Again, trust me, if you are a fiscal conservative, you would shout from the top of a hill, saying to Romney that his further tax cuts he is promising if elected, will take the country right through the Cliff and so will his rhetoric for $2 trillion in additional defense spending.

That man, Romney, is a shallow guy devoid of vision, ideas and has no clue as to how to take us from a lousy vaporeware based (read financial markets driven) economy we are in now, to a robust high tech, modern manufacturing economy. Romney is the guy who said, "People, don't worry about the rising tide due to global warming, for it's all hoax."

You tea party people are really amazing, with no common sense.

Most "Indepedents" are not really truly independent. They are former disgruntled Democrats or Republicans who left their parties, often because the positions of their formers parties were not extreme enough to suit them, but they still carry their former parties prejudices with them. They may be registered "Independent", but that does not necessarily mean their points of view are really completely independent of any party's point of view. I just thought I'd point that out, but otherwise, I agree with you.

So these polls are trying to say that a current (CULTIST) MORMON bishop who wants to take away womens rights, send us all back to the 30's, turn us all into slave labor, destroy our infrastructure and deny us any police, firefighters or postal services, and get us in more endless wars and loot our economy, of what we have left after Bush, is tied with our current president? BS!

Anyone who puts their money in an offshore bank is not to be trusted as far as I am concerned ..unless your just plan stupid! Whatever happened to seperation of church and state? How can a person who has been attached to such a powerful church with so many secretive policies be allowed to even run for office?

I dont buy it for a second. When are these poll takers and over half the media gonna get off Romneys payroll and start doing their job? The BS is never ending. WE ARE NOT THIS STUPID GOP!

There needs to be a law passed that disallows any corporations from owning our TV, Radio or newspapers.

If Romney wants to cut all our public services then why do we need to pay any taxes? He doesnt want to rebuild our roads and bridges but wants to make the military bigger then it already is. Almost half our money goes to the military and we dont even use the stuff we already have. It is unnecessary to keep making stuff when we already have warehouses full of stuff we havent already used?? If you say its to keep people working then you need to create new industry and retrain the people so we can get past the "art of war" the GOP loves so well. It will be our undoing.

He wants to kick our elderly off the very security they paid for all their working lives (SS is not an entitlement..it is exactly what it says it is...not congress piggy bank.) and he wants to allow wall street to gamble with their pensions ...like they havent already gambled enough of it away..they are like crack heads with other peoples money. Break up the banks ..no investment bank and regular bank should have ever been allowed to merge. Too big to fail is BS and these banks needs to be taken apart....I wont let my bank use my money to hedge their bets.

Isnt our reason to pay taxes to take care of this country and not everyone elses? Isnt that what our taxes are supposed to be paying for?

These "suits" seem to love to sit in rooms and find ways to keep beating each other up in a endless fight for control and they are using our people and national treasure in their quest for eternal power...well I call "B*ll Sh*t" on all of them.

It is time to give us more credit then this you "leaders"...the blame game is over. We know you are all full of crap!

I have seen few Obama bumper stickers and even fewer lawn signs. I see many lawn signs for other democrat candidates for other offices but no one seems to want to associate themselves with Obama. I do see a few handwritten signs saying they are part of the 99% and proud of it and those usually accompany an Obama sign. What they don't seem to understand is that by voting for Obama they will indeed remain in the 99%.

I believe both candidates want what is best for Americans. They just have very different ideas about what help is. Obama wants to give whoever wants one a fish every day. Romney wants to teach everyone how to fish. That's the difference between the two parties and the two men. The election is really that simple.

Romney's way may seem cold but how do you raise your children? Do you teach them how to tie their shoes, how to cook, how to study so they can learn more and more and get a better job or do you shrug off your responsibilities as a parent and let them do whatever they want because it's fun? Would you raise your children the way Obama has treated the people of the US?

Hello folks, does it feel like the movie Ground Hog Day to you? We keep doing the same thing over and over again and expect different results. It looks and feels like we are gerbils on a treadmill wheel.

Who has always run this world? The blue bloods, right? Nearly every U.S. president has been related to each other and ultimately their lineage can be easily traced back to the British monarchy. So what is different about this election? Are Obama and Romney related? Your damn right they are!

Have you ever looked at the Bush, Romney, and Obama family tree, they are all related to each other! If you think this is conspiracy then Huffington Post, Reuters, ABCNews, Ancestry.com, Genealogy Bank, etc and many more news outlets are involved in a conspiracy. The argument by the disinformation trolls is that if you go back far enough in your own bloodline that we are all related to the Queen of England. That is unadulterated BS. The blue bloods have always run this country!

Obama & Romney Are Related! Genealogy Infographic

By Tom Kemp | Posted on October 12, 2012 by Tom Kemp

“In time for the 2012 election countdown, I recently did some genealogy research to learn more about the background of both President Barack Obama and Governor Mitt Romney, and guess what—they’re related!

What’s more: they’re also related to several former U.S. presidents, English kings, outlaws and celebrities. This is really huge! So huge in fact that our team at GenealogyBank decided to create this Infographic to show many of these surprising genealogical findings.”

Why are you voting for either of these candidates? Because one or the other is the lesser of two evils? That still makes them evil, right? We have a one headed two party system that support the rich and could care less about you, zero, zilch!

For those who still value their individual critical thinking and decision making skills wake up and get off the treadmill.

Our global banking system has crashed and you will find this information out after the elections and neither candidate can save it. You can acknowledge our situation or remain asleep, the choice is yours but you can make a difference if you simply decide to. Peace!

        Elaine,

Have you ever balanced your household budget? It is an examination of income/outflow, cuts and musts. Or the tow truck arrives, and the bank changes the front door lock. The USA has to do the same.

To think the Mormon Bishop is going to control the White House, is grasping for women voters. If you really felt that way, you would have never voted for O in 2008, given he was sitting, front row, in the pew of Reverend Wright. Sadly, without his hands over his sweet daughters ears.

Your post only shows your ignorance of what you are talking about. My family was on food stamps for a while when I was a kid because my father got disabled on his job. It was very humiliating for my father having to be on food stamps, and we got off them as quickly as we could. I suspect the same is true of most people who are on food stamps. They are not on food stamps because they are too lazy to work. They are on food stamps because they would not have enough money to eat without them. When the poll numbers are so close, it is more than troubling that Tagg Romney now owns HART intercivic, the company that owns the voting machines in Ohio, Colorado, and other states.

You have it all balled up. Bain is actually run by Matt Levin, a Democrat, Obama supporter, and Obama campaign fund bundler. It was Levin's decision to purchase the voting machines.

Romney's shares in Bain are of the "silent partner" type.

Just so I have this stright....when Obama was leading big in the polls, it was the will of the American people, but when Romney closes the gap, or even ties in some polls, then the polls are flawed and meaningless....did I get that right?

NO, Since January the News media polls have insisted that 2012 would be at least a carbon Copy of 2008. The change from 2004 to 2008 was an increase in the gap of Democrat to Republicans. This despite 2010 turnout showed a surge of republicans and a slight decline of Democrats. 2012 polling showed that the Republicans were continuing to make gains on the Democrats.

During the Year as Romney closed, the number of democrats were added. I'm seeing polls in contested states where Democrats polled were increased up to 5 points over 2008 and Republicans decreased up to 4 points over 2008. I've seen polls where where democrat and republican numbers were both jacked up 10 points over historical averages and independents squeezed. In those polls I usually find that Romney is winning the independent vote as much as 2 to 1.

No, you are just seeing what a insidiously disingenuous group the News Media is.

        1. to match with South Korea and Finland in terms of educating its people,
        2. to match with industrial Germany, Switzerland, and northern Europe in specialized high end manufacturing
        3. to keep our number one position in the world in pharmaceuticals and biotech
        4. to upgrade our country's infrastructure (roads, bridges, airports, seaports, air traffic towers, water plants, renewable energy , electrical grid, etc.)
        5. to bring forward looking growth (in semiconductors, nano technology, materials, software, etc.) and keep our position as #1 in the world in those areas.

Obama knows and understands that individual innovation, robust capital markets, entrepreneurship, and above all, public-private partnership (cooperation with Government agencies in R&D) and good decent regulatory environment are what are needed to keep us moving forward as undisputed economic superpower it once was. Romney does not.

I have two great wonderful two teenage girls in school and I want them to have a great life in this country instead of emigrating to a country like Switzerland, New Zealand, or Australia. Obama is that one person who will lead us there and not Romney. Sadly, Romney just doesn't understand what that 99% of the population go through everyday to put food on the table, send kids to schools, worry about their college tuition, worry about retirement, healthcare, etc. He just cannot understand the feeling and aspirations of 99% of the people in this country. Another propaganda poll by NBC and wall street who are both in the tank for Romney.

Uhm, hate to break it to you, but NBC is in the tank for Obama. They were the only ones who said Obama won the first debate.

As a leader of non-denominational Christian studies, I have found that the dilemma most evangelical Christians voters are facing in this election boils down to two things:

        (a) do you vote for a professed Christian (Obama) who has said he supports gay rights?

or (b) do you vote for a Mormon (Romney) whose beliefs do not align with traditional Christian beliefs (Jesus is the brother of Satan, Jesus is not divine, etc.)

My own personal belief is that I like a President who does not bark his religious faith into every mike just because he wants someone's vote. And that he is a President who believes everyone has the right to worship God (or not) as he chooses. And I always want a President who is level-headed and has proven he will not bend to wealthy donors, or condescend to those who are middle class or low income. A President who has proven that he has a cool head in foreign policy and is not one that is quick to rush to war. I want a President who can be trusted and is consistent with his words and actions, and does not change his words to fit whatever situation he happens to be in at the moment.

I have been impressed with President Obama's record in office, and although disappointed with one or two of his decisions, I do not expect him to be perfect. I think he has done his incredibly difficult job with amazing grace considering he has had such opposition and virtually no support from the GOP or TP.

You've got my vote and my respect, Mr. President.

Thank you for the past four years, and here's hoping for another four years to come.

        I don't understand this.

Beverly and Feisty.........It's quite simple. Many people ARE asking themselves if they are better off than 4 years ago and many are saying no. Your blind loyalties to the president are admirable.

It's all about hope and change. We know what we will get if the president is re-elected and realize we cannot, as a country afford that.

Yup, hope and change. We fervently HOPE that there will be a CHANGE in leadership in 2 weeks.

        Tea Sucks:

Obama knows and understands that individual innovation, robust capital markets, entrepreneurship, and above all, public-private partnership (cooperation with Government agencies in R&D) and good decent regulatory environment are what are needed to keep us moving forward as undisputed economic superpower it once was.

You give O WAY more credit than his credentials deserve. He has no flipping clue!

I have two special nieces who both graduated from law school, in the past 3 years. No jobs, and yet have $140 & $160K school debt, respectively, which was "kindly and generously" given to them with an 8% government loan! Did you mention New Zealand?

        ...and...your comment...

He just cannot understand the feeling and aspirations of 99% of the people in this country.

"Aspirations," come from the belly, not a government check.

*sigh* There the Right go again. Taking crap out of context. Ticked off, here is the full discussion for your context and for anyone else interested in the actual truth of the matter and not posting stupid crap like Ticked has done several times now:

President Obama used the phrase in an echo of Jon Stewart, who had just said, "is part of the investigation helping the communication between these divisions? Not just what happened in Benghazi, but what happened within. Because I would say, even you would admit it was not the optimal response, at least to the American people, as far as all of us being on the same page." Obama replied, “Well here's what I'll say: If four Americans get killed, it's not optimal. And we're going to fix it.”

Oliver Willis at Media Matters for America has posted a response to the affair, in which he argues that Obama’s answer, “in fuller context, makes it obvious that he was discussing the inadequacy of early communications between different arms of the government — not the deaths of personnel.” The question does suggest that Obama was calling the failure of communication not optimal, as opposed to the deaths.

If you still cannot understand this, Tricked Off, I would be happy to further explain it to you.

The US Debt has been going down for 3 years and is now where it was in 2006. It was going up in 2006. What does this mean?

Reduced borrowing means there is less competition for the U.S. Treasury Department as it sells debt to fund spending programs to help the nation recover from the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression. Credit-rating firms are discounting the improvement even as debt, equity and currency markets suggest the U.S. is more creditworthy than before Standard & Poor’s stripped the nation of its AAA grade in 2011

There is also an interesting chart that shows that eliminating the tax cuts for the 1%ers will have the least effect on the economy while eliminating the tax cuts for working Americans will have the most effect on the economy.

Romney may have Ohio right now. Early voting is expected to be 1/3 of the voting. Republican Absentee ballots closed the Democrat advantage by 7 points this year. In the early voting, the gap has also closed by about 5+ points also. Obama won by 4.8 points in 2008. If the early voting and absentees are representative of what shows upon election day, Obama has lost Ohio by 1 - 2 points.

Republican response has been so string in the Youngstown and Portage county areas, the Tim Ryan may lose his seat. This would be a continuing trend from 2010, where the Tim Ryan advantage slipped from 20+ points in 2008 to about 10 points in 2010.

That may be true. I can't speak for any individual American's present condition. But as far as the country as a whole is concerned, I think there can be no question about it. We are hell of a lot better off now then we were four years ago. Four years ago the financial sector had just collapsed. Major banks like Lehman Brothers and Bear Sterns had declared bankruptcy. The housing market had gone kaput. There was a run on the banks with people withdrawing their money for fear their banks would collapse. Many banks were going out of business or closing their doors temporarily to avoid the panic. The auto industry was about to go bankrupt with the consequent loss of millions of jobs. We were losing jobs at the rate of 800,000 per month. Do you seriously mean to tell us that we were better off four years ago than we are now? You must be kidding!!!

Looking at registered voters only has Obama leading in all polls by wide margins, so the 13 point swing seems to be in the pollsters' ability to predict "Likely Voters".

Personally, I think all "real" Republicans will swing to Obama the day of the election. :)

This is from Global news in Canada

A report that Solamere Capital, a company owned by Tagg Romney, has invested heavily in electronic voting machines to be used next month in the critical swing state of Ohio lit up the political blogosphere on Friday.

U.S. President Barack Obama is still leading Romney in Ohio, despite the Republican's recent surge in the polls. Tagg Romney campaigned for his father on Friday in the southeast reaches of the state.

Ohioans are sensitive to suggestions of voter machine shenanigans, with some liberals in the state long suspecting wonky voting machines played a role in George W. Bush's sudden, late-night win there against John Kerry in 2004.

@1.131 dartatak said "Many people ARE asking themselves if they are better off than 4 years ago and many are saying no."

Actually, it seems that Republicans are terrified to ask this question, because for the majority of voters, the answer is "are you kidding me? WAY better off than 4 years ago!!!"

Mickey pointed out some of the macroeconomic reasons things are so much better -- banks were saved, auto industry was saved and so on.

I'll share a more microeconomic tale -- a reason why a voter like myself might choose to be selfish and vote with my pocketbook...for the guy whose policies I don't always agree with, but who was the president when my family's financial situation went from disaster and uncertainty to comfortable and optimistic.

Four years ago, after the crash, my wife's former employer went belly up and everyone was laid off. It took her 6 months to find a job that paid noticeably less, but a job she liked, working with people she liked. She's still working there today, and they are growing, hiring and handing out modest raises and bonuses.

Four years ago my company was beginning what ultimately would turn into several rounds of mass layoffs and unpaid furloughs for those of us that remained. Raises & bonuses of course were cancelled, even the 401(k) matching was cancelled. We truly felt lucky to have jobs at all, even with the furloughs and the cutbacks.

Four years ago my home value and my 401(k) retirement investments both began a plunge that would ultimately take them both down about 40%. On every financial front and on the job front, it felt like our world was collapsing all around us.

Fast forward to today and my wife is still happy at that new job I mentioned, my company stopped the layoffs before the end of 2009, and by 2011 we were hiring again -- and paying raises and bonuses. The 401(k) matching was restored starting in 2010. My 401(k) has made up all of those losses plus a big percentage above that, so my retirement is back on track and my balances are much larger than they were 4 years ago. Housing prices here bottomed out late last year and have been rising since. I had enough equity to even do a refi a few months ago and knock more than 2% off my mortgage interest rate.

I have been a lifelong Republican, but am disappointed to have heard nothing at all from the Romney camp about HOW he is going to create 12M jobs or WHICH tax loopholes & deductions he's going to eliminate, or HOW he is going to avoid cutting defense without raising deficits. The more I hear, the more he sounds like Santa Claus -- free candy for everyone! He seems so desperate to win the presidency, he will say anything to get me to believe in him and vote for him, but I'm not buying it without hearing a convincing plan.

Meanwhile, there's this incumbent president who, like I said, was in charge during the 4 years when my own family's situation went from ominous and very concerned for the future, back to comfortable and optimistic about the future.

So DON'T ask THIS Republican "are you better off than you were 4 years ago," because the answer is "he11 yes, by a long shot!", and if I decide to be selfish and vote with my pocketbook, I have no choice but to vote for Obama.

There should only be a 1 Term President---4 yrs., then a re election of new candidates.

Two Terms, and most Presidents do nothing for the American people.

The Last Term is called "Lame Duck"; that is very true in a literal sense. Who knows what a President is up to during the last 4 years; taking advantage of all Presidential perks, putting in their own Programs of which American People are not aware. There are no voters to challenge what the mysterious activities are of a Lame Duck President. No accountability---

Obama/Romney even?; hopefully, Americans will not be put through another "recount" of chads like the Bush/Gore Tied Election. That was senseless.

Actually, I think one 6-year term would be good for any President, with no re-elections. If the President has an effective term, then his Vice President could run after him.

The Office of President is a highly stressful job to say the least, and the time and money that must be spent on re-elections could be used for better things.

That was an excellent post! It's nice to hear it from the, as you put it, "microeconomic" or personal level. I mean from someone who was personally affected by the collapse of 2008. I was not personally affected by it myself because I was retired already when that happened so I was only able to state some of the major things that occurred back then that I could remember. But I know many millions of Americans were devastated by it. I'm happy to hear that you and your family are recovering from it now. Good luck for the future!

Here's the deal, President Obama will win because of the electoral college! Then hopefully, you and your kind, hateful and disrespecting can disappear.

Your cries of anyone but Obama is laughable, Look who the republicans had as candidates in the Primaries:

              ROMNEY

              CAIN

              PERRY

              BACHMAN

              TRUMP

If that's the best your Party can do, your future does not look bright. It's time to come together to work toward the future of this GREAT Country. Republicans get rid of the Tea Bag, Religious intolerant Platform and move toward the center or you will relugated to the also rans for a long time.

Mitt Romney pandered to this base and has turned so many people off, that even his move to the center at this point is ineffective. He has had more postions then the Kama Sutra.

And to seal the deal, he chose Paul Ryan ( affectionatley called Lyin Ryan) what a pair.

NBC/WSJ favors a polling model that uses the 2008 voter turnout as it's starting point. Given that most polls show that enthusiasm is up for Republicans by as much as ten points, expecting Democrats to turn out in numbers that are seven points higher than Republicans (the margin in 2008) is overly optimistic, no?

Uncle Henry is right. If polls using the 2008 voter turnout show that the race is tied, then Romney is likely ahead by a greater margin.

BTW, you think we're in a state of chaos now? Imagine an indefinite stay in the Middle East. More dollars wasted to maintain an illusion of democracy. More troops lives' wasted. More families torn apart. Then again, you might be a member of "Team America: World Police."

Have a problem with the deficit? Ryan's budget increases spending by 3% (Obama's increases spending 4.5%). I bet the deficit won't be a big deal if Romney/Ryan win. The deficit wasn't such a big deal when W was in office.

Lastly, let me refresh your memory about a few things. When Clinton was in office, we had a national surplus and no wars. Security wasn't the cash cow it is today. Congress actually got things done. Then came W and his Congress. There came $10B in national debt. Here came the Medicare Modernization Act of 2003, projected to cost about $15B by 2015. There went the economy. Here came the wars. Things went downhill during the W administration thanks to Congress. Of course it's easier to blame all this on the opposite party and conveniently forget what happened during the eight years of Republican control and the rise of the Tea Party. So I challenge you to look in the mirror and ask yourself why you want to put the party that brought all this on the country in the first place back in office.

I should say that I blame the Tea Party for what's happening. Their ultra-conservative policies are what's hurting us, not Democrats or moderate Republicans. They're the ones that publicly celebrated the credit downgrade. They're the ones that are spewing the hateful propaganda. You want to "take America back"? Try finding a nice moderate candidate. Of course in a party ruled by Palin, Bachmann, Perry, Cain, Gingrich, Trump, Santorum, and Walsh, that's almost impossible.

"Heads Up" for all when checking facts.....

Factcheck.org -- A Fraudulent "Fact Check" Site Funded By Biased Political Group

If you wanted to use a devious method to deceive people who are trying to differentiate between truth and lies on the Internet how would you do it? If you were extremely devious and had no conscience, you might set up a Web site with some official and unbiased sounding name that claims to be the encyclopedia of truth to be used as a tool for anyone who has the same biased view and wants to make believe to "back it up" with what they would like you to think is "indisputable fact."

That is exactly what Web sites like factcheck.org are. They are biased, politically motivated propaganda Web sites, manned and funded by biased political organizations who set up the sites for the sole purpose of deviously "backing up" the political arguments of those who hold the same views that they do. It's kind of like you have a friend who is in on your lie, and you use him to back up your story and don't tell anyone else he is your friend.

Just because they use a name that implies unbiased assessments, doesn't mean that they provide them. You can call your Web site anything you want. I can set up a web site called thetruth.org or realfacts.com or stopthelies.org and post any kind of biased political propaganda I want on it. The name means nothing. And in the case of sites like factcheck.org, the name is intentionally misleading and deceptive. But it isn't the only so called "fact check" site that is a fraud. There are others.

Think about it. Would you rely on any particular Web site to get the "truth?" Anyone honest would tell you that you should NOT rely solely on them to get your facts. You should get them by considering many different and sources, with different points of view and opinions and arrive at what you believe to be the truth by using your own God given senses. Only con artists purport to be the de facto source of truth.

If you look behind the scenes at these phony "fact check" sites, you find that they are funded by organizations with political biases. You must always ask yourself. Who is writing about this so-called "truth." Who funds the site and pays their expenses. What are the origins and history of the funders and who are they associated with. In the case of factcheck.org they receive their funding from the liberal Annenberg Foundation.

The Annenberg Foundation was originally founded by Walter J. Annenberg, a conservative who supported Ronald Reagan. However, when Walter Annenberg died, his family took over the management of the foundation and it took a turn to the far left and has ties to radical left individuals such as Bill Ayers and his friend and fellow left wing radical collegue Barack Obama. How is factcheck.org associated with these people:

To start, Ayers was the key founder of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, which was a Chicago public school reform project from 1995 to 2001. Upon its start in 1995, Obama was appointed Board Chairman and President of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge. Geesh, that alone connects all three. Well, it branches out even more from there.

Ayers co-chaired the organization’s Collaborative, which set the education policies of the Challenge. Oddly enough, Obama was the one who was authorized to delegate to the Collaborative in regards to its programs and projects. In addition to that, Obama often times had to seek advice and assistance from the Ayer’s led Collaborative in regards to the programmatic aspects of grant proposals. Ayers even sat on the same board as Obama as an “ex officio member”. They both also sat together on the board of the CAC’s Governance Committee. Obama and Ayers were two parts of a group of four who were instructed to draft the bylaws that would govern the CAC. Keep in mind that the “A” in CAC is for Annenberg, the owners of FactCheck.org. The funding for Ayer’s projects and those of his cronies was approved by Board Chair, Barack Obama.

Google William "Bill" Ayers, Weather Underground, see who helped Barak launch his political career.

With all the back and forth on the Presidental candidates, I would rather not vote than vote for Romney because he scares me on so many levels, and lies.. Here's the thing, folks need to do a "ah ha" and look at the VP candidates also. Biden is older, and yeah, I admit a bit dramatic at times, misspeaks (which we ALL DO), but has 40 years in DC on very high ranking Senate subcommittees.... you really think Ryan is more qualified to be near that oval office and red button if tragedy struck... He screws up photo op in Ohio, cost the charity $$ because of angry donors..... and you want HIM negotiating with China, Iran, or anyone?? Not me

"Biden had felt poorly physically during parts of the campaign, suffering repeated headaches and at one point in September 1987 having to halt a speech in New Hampshire for 15 minutes after feeling faint.[32] In February 1988, he suffered the first of two brain aneurysms that required life-saving surgery and seven months away from the Senate in order to convalesce.[40][41][42] Biden and others would speculate that had his campaign not ended early, the aneurysms might have been more severe or detected later and that he might not have lived out the year"...That and the Plagiarism problem.

"Biden withdrew from the nomination race on September 23, 1987, saying his candidacy had been overrun by "the exaggerated shadow" of his past mistakes.[38] His formal campaign had lasted only three and a half months."

              Fast Forward to 2008:

"During the campaign, Biden focused on his plan to achieve political success in the Iraq War through a system of federalization. He touted his record in the Senate as the head of several congressional committees and experience in foreign policy. Despite a few notable endorsements, Biden failed to garner significant support in opinion polls, and was marred by controversial comments made while campaigning. He ultimately dropped out of the race on January 3, 2008, after capturing less than 1% of the vote in the Iowa caucus.[4]""

ssmithlg - What you've posted on factcheck.org is an unsubstantiated conspiracy theory originally made long ago. Mr. Berg made that claim during the last election cycle while he was filing court cases claiming that President Obama was not born in the US. It was disproven then and is still false.

Heck, Mr. Berg completely ignored that Mrs. Leonore Annenberg was a Republican that endorsed and supported Sen. McCain.

If it was disproved then what makes you think the same accusation has somehow changed and now it's true?

If someone can't see how this guy continually lies and changes positions then they truly are blind. The scary thing is that supposedly intellectual right wing people are now jumping on board and defending the lies put forth.

justredd - how about checking where the HUGE majority of the deficit came from? (Hint - President Reagan and President G. W. Bush) And how about remembering that a significant part of the current 16 trillion dollar deficit comes directly from the debt service on the Republican deficit inherited by President Obama. And how about checking out the last time we had a surplus? (Hint - President Clinton)

VP Cheney stated the Republican perspective VERY clearly when he said, "Deficits don't matter."

              Reagan

              Bush

              bush/cheney

If those 3 had just balanced their budgets we would now have almost no national debt.

Why exchange a gifted, likeable, compassionate President Obama for a guy who pissed off the British and Israelis on his maiden swing overseas? Why exchange a President who is committed to 100% of Americans, for a guy who thinks paying 14% of 20 million on his taxes is fair? Romney keeps talking about increasing spending on guns, tanks, planes and bases, while talking about tax cuts for the wealthiest. He's crazy.

You're joking right? Really, you have to be joking. We have spent the last four years in neutral AT BEST. Actually, the poster boy for womens rights has overseen an additional 3.4 MILLION women in poverty than when he took office...his own white house has been called a hostile work environment for women, women make less in his administration than men do. Add to that the complete failure to add jobs, increased energy prices, additional debt and total leadership failure, I would think 'driving into the ditch' is the last analogy one would want to use.

NBC/WSJ keeps putting out the poll results showing that the race for President is tied. That is a bunch of BULL. This poll is for the Voters in the entire United States. The Poll would be accurate if that is HOW we elected the President but that is not how it works.

The number of delegates won by each canidate in the Electorial College determines the winner. That is why we have all the whoop to do about the swing states. President Obama has enough Electorial votes won now so if he wins Ohio he has 277 Electorial votes and is the winner.

All this crap about the race being tied is absolutely wrong and in my opinion is a method of keeping the money flowing to the mass media markets. The two parties will have spent very close to a BILLION DOLLARS in advertising money to TV Stations to LIE about the other party. It was/is a great business stimulus because it is instant money into the media market from the American Purses with NO upfront costs. After the Election the cost goes away and Americans can resume their normal lives with out seeing/hearing all the LIEING about the other Political Party.

Swing state status today Sunday 10/21/2012 combined score ALL polls. Wisconsin Obama by 6 points, Iowa Obama by 8 points, Ohio Obama by 6 points. Of the 13 so called swing states President Obama will win 118 electorial votes if the Election were held today and Romney would win 13.

Bottom line Mr. Romney would have to win 11 of the 13 swing states to be elected. Does any body believe that can happen? If all the 13 creditable polls are accurate President Obama will be elected by approximately 100 electorial votes. Please note that the numbers include the Republican biased/funded polls.

I don't know who is going to win but I do know the actual numbers show that President Obama has a 70% chance of being elected President. As a retired 77 year old Engineer I try to not look at anything that is not backed up by real numbers. Emotions are for the Talking heads on TV.

                  Good luck to both canidates.

That is scary. Do you remember what happened when they were used for the first time in Florida in 2000?

"DELAND, Fla., Nov. 11 - Something very strange happened on election night to Deborah Tannenbaum, a Democratic Party official in Volusia County. At 10 p.m., she called the county elections department and learned that Al Gore was leading George W. Bush 83,000 votes to 62,000. But when she checked the county's Web site for an update half an hour later, she found a startling development: Gore's count had dropped by 16,000 votes, while an obscure Socialist candidate had picked up 10,000--all because of a single precinct with only 600 voters."

Especially in modern times. How are they reaching people? I used to get polled fairly regularly. Not anymore. No land line. They cant reach me on my cell. I dont really want to talk to them. I want to talk to my voting ballot, not a bunch of pollsters. I have to question the validity of the poll samples these days, more so than ever.

This is a really interesting point, that being the shift to cellphones for millions of Americans, and there's actually a precedent, of sorts. In 1936, The Literary Digest conducted a huge poll of 10 million voters and predicted a landslide for the Republican, Alfred Landon, over the incumbent, FDR. One would have expected that such a huge sample would have yielded reasonably accurate results, despite any errors in the sampling method. Of course, the results were far from accurate.

It turns out that the pollsters used automobile registrations and telephone listings for most of their samples. In 1936, at the very pinnacle of the Great Depression, when most people in the country had neither.

It's illegal to solicit using cellphone records.

                    Why
are so many so surprised that Myth Romney stood in front of 67 million voters
and lied thru his teeth??? That is the GOP way!!!

                    George
                    H. W. Bush "Read my lips no new taxes"!!!

                    George
                    W. Bush "Republicans will be compassionate conservatives"???

                    Mitt
Romney "I never said I was going to give the rich an additional 10 percent
                    off on their taxes"&&&

                    I'm
starting to think I like the idea of Romney winning. And when he gives he and
his rich buddies more tax breaks and takes this country's economy over the edge
of that cliff that President Obama has worked so hard to pull us back from with
nothing but treasonous opposition from the idiots on the right, I am going to
                    love it.

                    Then
when the right pulls out the second trick in their three trick pony act, I
might actually weep for you idiots when he sends your kids into war so he and
his rich buddies can get even richer while your kids come home in boxes.

                    And
the third trick is to deregulate everything, banks, insurance companies,
utility companies and its "bend over middle class"!!!

No, John N, you have it backwards.

Bush won BOTH STATEWIDE counts in FL in 2000, it was Gore and a rogue liberal FL State Supreme Court that tried to cheat...Gore tried to convince the country that recounting four democratic counties he already won by a landslide was the only way "to count all the votes." Then, when the rogue FL State Supreme Court gave him a two chances to just change the counting rules (laws that were already in place) to suit his needs, the US Supreme Court had to step in to stop Gore from trying to cheat his way into the White House.

Independent auditing firms that recounted FL after all this nonsense prove Bush won anyway, but that doesn't stop the whining left from trying to claim the opposite all these years.

Jax A - there were significant irregularities in Florida. Starting with an improper purge of the voter registration files and ending with people being turned away from the polls (even though they were in line before the closing time).

Fact is, the SCOTUS ruled 5-4 that the Florida recount that was underway should be halted, partially incomplete. At that time President Bush was leading by about 150 votes.

Had the recount been completed, it's still unknown who would have won because of multiple recount standards being used in the different districts. Some recounts made after the election show Bush, some show Gore as the winner depending on the standard used.

The "liberal Florida State Supreme Court" was bound by law to uphold the Florida election laws as written which allowed for the challenges made by Mr. Gore. The SCOTUS decision to stop the process because they stated there was insufficent time to establish a single standard by which to do the recount.

All except one or two "standards" used by the independent accounting firms that counted the votes after the election showed Bush won. But it's "election night"...not "election quarter" and it's based on the laws and standards in place at the time, not standards you want to change or invent because you lost.

"Had the recount been completed..." If, if, if...that's all Gore was going on.

The recount HAD been completed. When the first count had such a slim margin, the state law mandated that the ENTIRE state be recounted, which it was. And Bush won that count as well. It should have been over at that point.

Recounting four democratic counties that Gore already won by a landslide was certainly no "count all the votes" solution...it was a duck hunt. Even worse, the second thing Gore tried was to be able to count the votes that were thrown out based on the standards/laws in place at the time of the vote! The US Supreme Court was correct to uphold the Equal Protection clause of the 14th amendment and stop Gore from cheating.

Funny how people complained about registration purging only after they didn't like the result...and assumed "all voters turned away" (yeah right, would vote for Gore). What about all the "irregularities" where Gore tossed out all the military absentee ballots? Ooops....

Republican's fault. Well no let me phrase that better, Congress' fault; although the House is Republican controlled. Obama want's to close it but Congress, namely most Republicans and some Democrats, will not allow Gitmo detainees to be held in US prisons.

They will also not allow them to be released either so Gitmo stays open until either they cave and allow them to be held in the prison system or Obama caves and has them executed.

That statement means little to the reality of the situation. All it is is a soundbite in comparison. No Congress nor President will ever veto a reasonable bill that raises the debt ceiling. They have a constitutional responsibility to raise it as the Constitution demands that the Government be able to pay off its debts and expenditures.

So you either raise the debt ceiling or you raise taxes by 30 to 45% across the board to increase revenue and cut spending at the same time to allow for surpluses that can be used to pay down the federal debt and whatever money it owes out and still remain in the black.

"But the consortium, looking at a broader group of rejected ballots than those covered in the court decisions, 175,010 in all, found that Gore might have won if the courts had ordered a full statewide recount of all the rejected ballots."

More "might have" and "if, if, if." Again, why were the first two counts of the entire state invalid? Did both of those counts reject ballots incorrectly? This was the VERY problem. You don't just go back and recount JUST rejected ballots, which was the very nature of one of the pathetic ploys of the Gore campaign. They were rejected due to the laws and standards in place during the first count on election night, and the state-mandated entire state-wide recount.

In fact the title of the section in that article you linked to is (http://issues2000.org/Florida_Recount_Official.htm):

Gore won if rejected ballots counted; but Bush won on manual recount

So in other words, the only way Gore could win is by cheating... by trying to include ballots that were supposed to be rejected based on standards and laws in place during the election.

"Properly counting overseas ballots would have given Gore victory"

Cute parsing of an even cuter supposition. The first sentence in that paragraph in your slanted article says:

"A statistical analysis conducted for The Times determined that if all counties had followed state law in reviewing the absentee ballots, Gore would have picked up as many as 290 additional votes, enough to tip the election in Gore’s favor in some of the situations studied in the statewide ballot review."

Let's see, a statistical analysis from the NY Times? Yeah, that ought to be non-biased, huh? And when words like "picked up AS MANY AS" are thrown around it makes the desperation even more apparent. But to put the icing on the hyperbole cake? "As many as" a number of votes had to be part of the one or two counting standards invented after the election for Gore to "possibly" have won, based on a biased newspaper's analysis. Far-reaching, grasping, and invented counting standards after the election by a biased news organization giving approximations hardly proves anything, except a vivid imagination and a desperate desire to change undesired results.

Gore called everyone and their mother to be sure absentee ballots without "proper post-marking" NOT be counted. And MANY military ballots from overseas were kicked out for this very reason because of the postage-paid envelopes...and those were the ballots that made it. Some, mysteriously, just never arrived.

                          http://newsbusters.org/blogs/tom-blumer/2008/05/27/election-2000-media-continue-downplay-fls-military-ballots-controversy

                          From your slanted article:

"But Gore chose not to challenge these ballots because many were from members of the military overseas, and Gore did not want to be accused of seeking to invalidate votes of men and women in uniform."

That's exactly what happened, and exactly why so many military ballots were kicked out. And anyone telling you that the majority of military votes were going to Gore would be fooling only themselves.

"Democrat Al Gore was selected on 80,772 of the overvote ballots, twice as many as Republican George W. Bush"

Another translation, "Gore would have won if he could have cheated and counted votes that were supposed to be thrown out." Or another translation would be "When stupid voters selected more than one candidate for president, of course the voter meant Gore!"

"Overvotes went 3:1 to Gore on Palm Beach’s “butterfly ballot”"

See a pattern forming? Rejected ballots being allowed is the only way Gore could cheat his way into the White House.

Note that in other statements they also went onto say under what circumstances that Bush would have won. ANd how/why he was awarded the state.

Fact is, the manual recount as allowed for under Florida law was halted by the SCOTUS on a 5-4 vote. The manual recount, as allowed for under Florida law (yes, I repeated that to stress it) was never completed.

The manual recount, at first, was just for four democratic counties Gore already won by a landslide. Sure, the law stated he could recount just the counties he wanted, but the whole "let's count all the votes" mantra the democrats were wailing didn't mean "let's count all the votes" at all. That had been done, twice, already. He just didn't like the result. So he wanted to go mining for more votes in four counties where he was likely to find or create some. Then, he tried to convince the FL Supreme Court to allow him to go to all the counties and re-count just the rejected ballots. How anyone could see either of these two methods as "counting all the votes" and a valid recount is beyond any kind of sane reasoning. The US Supreme Court had to put a stop to it because Gore was never going to stop until he could find a scenario and vote count that gave him the presidency, initial results be damned, and the mandated state-wide recount be damned...and more importantly because of the violation of Article II, Section 1 and the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment of the US Constitution.

                          Jax A - I feel your pain.

You actually QUOTED the president directly:

The fact that we are here today to debate raising America's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that theUS Government can not pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government's reckless fiscal policies. Increasing America's debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that "the buck stops here." Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.

In his OWN WORDS.. and the Obamabots STILL respond:

That statement means little to the reality of the situation.

                          Thereby PROVING your point.

IN HIS OWN WORDS and they still don't get it.

The man doesn't know what he's doing. (OR either he knows Exactly what he's doing.. it just has nothing to do with honoring his oath of office.. you be the judge)

Is there any doubt in your mind that these people are just too far gone to try and infuse any logic, fact, data or reason into the argument. They are COMPLETELY Impervious to the logical, rational thought processes.

With Obama leading among women and Romney leading among men, I bet there are a lot of married couples having interesting dinner conversations. Now if the women would just withhold sex we might see things turn around for the president.

Obama has a comfortable lead among women, but nice try.

Listen, I'm old, white and male. I'm an ideal target for the empty promises and duplicity that is the mainstay of the republican party. (I have never had the urge to debate a chair, however, so that may disqualify me.)

I understand what is going on. I'm voting FOR women's rights. They deserve equal pay for equal work. Obama SIGNED the Lily Ledbetter bill. He doesn't just put women in a binder and talk a good show. He has acted, and this is a matter of public record. If you have to hurry home to cook dinner, come back and read the rest later.

The Republicans will have to hold it if Mitt Romney wins, because he will make sure that your birth control pills don't get covered in your insurance 'YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR SEX' oH BY THE WAY, if you are raped, you will need to prove that it was not a 'legitimate rape"

44% of Obama's money comes from women. They are already voting with their purse.

And remember that women make less money than men.

203 republicons voted against the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act. There are now 40 lawsuits working their way up because of it.

Are you one of those women who likes to be beaten by her husband? Many Russian women are like that, believe it or not. Wife beating is an old tradition in Russia. Russian women will tell you, "A man who does not beat his wife is not much of a man." I was just wondering because of your statement that women don't respond to weak men. Maybe they need one who beats them because he is a strong man who won't take any nonsense.

BTW, you get 10 Sleazy Points for mimicking the REAL SteelerNation.

So far, the baggers have more Sleazy Points than any other party, so they are going to win the Sleaze contest handily.

The real election is another story.

Starderup, the dems with their deliberate and unending exacerbation of class/gender/race warfare to divert American's attention from economic disaster and failed foreign policy all in an attempt to gain votes is why the whiney left (redundant, I know) has an insurmountable lead in Sleaze Points.

Which is precisely why, the real election as another story, will thankfully remove our Hate-spreader-as-a-diversion-tactic-In-Chief.

This is another poll that disputes the Gallup poll. But again it is the Electoral vote count that is important and the President is ahead there. Regardles of your view excluding the Gallup poll the President continues to inch up in the popular ote since his poor showing in the first debate.

It may or may not dispute it --- that awaits to be seen. The trend since the first debate has been in Romney's direction in ALL the polls, the unanwered question is if Gallup is an outlier or simply ahead of the curve.

I suspect the latter, in that all the major polls are now refining their algorithms to likely voter as opposed to registered voter. As likely voters are moved in, the enthusiasm of the GOP base over the Dim base is reflected.

You can always tell a "teabagger" by their professed ignorance.

Nate Silver's 538 is the gold standard of prognosticators. (The BIG word starting with the letter "P" means people who forecast outcomes) His mathematical models are extremely accurate.

Which you would know if you turned off Fox "news".

go read that "blog". At least Nate Silver uses statistics and demo-political models which account for each and every poll and the underlying fundamentals of each state. Oh and you misquote the RCP poll. How can you fail at reading a webpage?

The map you quoted does not account for toss ups, they are left out of the tally. When you add the toss ups Obama is winning 277:

                                http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2012/president/2012_elections_electoral_college_map_no_toss_ups.html

I seriously wish the wanna-bes would learn how this stuff actually works and which maps are relevant to the conversation instead of just pointing at stuff that makes their side look good. For the record that applies to polls as well.

In defense of Myk's source, the 538 blog is not supposed to be "fact," but is a polling aggregation site created and managed by Nate Silver, a statistician who was able to "correctly predict every state but Indiana in the 2008 presidential election. He also got every Senate race right" (quote from the Economist).

@ Ione713 and you other republican cattle...

I am against death and no one should ever die for someone elses profit, but what about the thousands that died, and are still dying due to the WMD lies? How come you guys aren't/weren't concerned about that debacle? Ths one who has no name and his VP should be up on war crimes for that one....

What are you gonna say, if Romney wins. and he sends your kid and your neighbors' kid to Libya to die so that his rich buddies can make more money???

You're gonna say its OK because of National Security? It's a bunch of BS and you know it. All the Repubs are for money and Romney is the worst among the Repub obstructionists in Congrass.

But you're the kind of person who will only listen to what they're told and not take the time to research.

Let me ask you this. If you're household is having problems paying your bills what do you do first? Go to your employer and tell that you want a pay cut? Isn't that what Romney wants to do? He wants to reduce revenue to help pay down the deficit? Does that even make sense? If and when the deficit is under control I can see reducing taxes, but not until then.

Next question... who is gonna benefrit from the tax cuts???? Only the rich, and they don't need it. Its been proven 3 times that trickle down economics does not work. I used to be middle class, but not anymore and that is due to the outsourcing, the off shoring, companies that are/were being shut down by guys like Romney, not because they dont make a profit. But because it was more profitable for Romney to, take out loans in the name of capital improvements, then shut 'em down and have the tax payers foot the bill for the unpaid loans. I know, I've lived through this and still trying to recover.

Do you're research if you can. You're eyes won't believe what they see. I am amazed that your ears are believing the Republican lies.

                                enough and John,

The Bengazi debacle was a National tragedy. But it seems to me that, I'd rather have a person who works to find out what happened and then gets the bad guys. (Remember who got Bin Laden).

Then someone (Romney) who jumped on the crisis too early without knowing the facts, to score a Political Gotcha.

Remember back to 2000 when Bush beat Gore. With help from the Supreme Court and Florida incompetence. Gore won the Popular vote, Bush won the electoral college. What a disaster that turned out to be! Well this time around it looks like the same scenario. Romney narrow win in popular votes, But, Obama wins the electoral college.

The difference this time will be, it won't be a disaster.

SOMEONE had to be sure people got fed after the BS mess Bush left our country in. What would you have Obama do? let them all starve to death??

The debt is becuase all the numbers were actually posted on the total instead of being left on the credit card statement where Bush had them for the 2 wars and the tax breaks and all the other unpaid for stuff he ran up on the nations Credit card. Repubs. love to buy stuff but they never want to pay the bill..or even admit it exists.

You can blame your beloved GOP for all the games they have played in the house for our credit status...quote "our number 1 priority is making Obama a 1 term president"..translates into whatever we got to do ..even if that means destroying the country then so be it. We got to be in power..because we want it. No spoiled children here huh? We can not trust the GOP to do anything to help us...they only care about power.. period. They are traitors.

You don't like debt all of a sudden? How odd. You republicons are responsible for 94% of our national debt.

The LPR peaked in 2000 and has been going down ever since. Why were you not complaining about it a decade ago????

Ah yes, the debt downgrade. Thank you republicons! When it was downgraded the reason given was you republicons were grandstanding about money you had already agreed to spend! By the way, America is more credit worthy now than we were then, just a year ago.

Mik...Obama is he one who promised to cut the deficit in half. Instead, he doubled it.

"In 2009, Barack Obama said," then cuts to Obama: "I’m pledging to cut the deficit by half by the end of my first term in office." The words "Feb. 2009, Debt: $10 trillion" flash onscreen.

A giant meter titled "the national debt clock" then appears on screen, reading $10.6 trillion. As talking heads recount the upward spiral of the nation’s debt, the clock frantically spins above $15 trillion.

Obama is then heard saying, "I will be held accountable" before appearing in a video and continuing, "If I don't have this done in three years, then there's going to be a one-term proposition."

Stop blaming this president for what terrorists did just because he is the current POTUS. You repugs like to blame the victims but the victims are not in a vacuum, someone/others around them is the problem. But then you can count three thousand on 9/11, and all of our war dead from two unfunded wars, and then add in the massacre of millions from genocide and sanctions in Iraq over the years because of complicity on behalf of US financial profit motives in arms sales and war crimes that are proven now to have happened on the Reagan, Bush 1, Clinton (sanctions only), & Bush 2 watch.

Look at how Romney even lied about the binders full of women. He didn't go to them. He was forced into signing a pledge while running for governor. Look at his history as governor. Things did NOT improve when he left office!!!!! He gave HUGE tax breaks to companies. READ people....READ!!! Look at his history as governor and how he was running for president while governor and basically gave up on his state. Look at how he claimed to be a resident of Mass but had to forge documents to do so. This is your life...and mine.

Here is a good starting point: search for "governor-romney-faced-similar-economic-situation-obama-with-similar-results"

But keep in mind reading this article that the entire country around Mass at the time was doing much better. His state SHOULD do better when everything around you is doing better. But now, the entire WORLD (except for maybe Australia) is having issues....so it makes it harder for the US to get going again.

"sowhy," your remarks are on the money, but I don't think you realize that these people not only do not read, they vote on emotion and not reason. They did it with Bush and they're doing it again with Romney. Romney’s shamefully slippery campaign tactics as well as his performance as a Massachusetts governor provide, by themselves, enough grounds to rule him out. Although he had the records of his administration as governor purged so the press and the electorate would be seriously hindered in assessing his performance, he was still unable to erase the fact that during his term Massachusetts had the second largest labor force decline in the nation, it ended up 47th among states in job growth, it lost 14% of its manufacturing jobs, and Massachusetts residents got stuck with the highest debt of any state in the nation. The truth of the matter is that this one-term governor was not only fearful of a reelection defeat, he abandoned Massachusetts after it delivered the sole reason he ran, a self-serving addition to his resume for another run at the White House, further evidence—no matter your political leanings—that this guy is nothing more than a pandering embarrassment and walking artifact (how many times has he blurted out painfully antiquated notions as if hopelessly mired in some 1950s time warp?) whose efforts, vision, and pronouncements are consistently irrelevant, obsolete—and when put into practice—totally ineffective.

                                47 MILLION on food stamps

Clearly, you don't understand the meaning of research.

For poverty, unemployed, and food stamp figures, anyone who remember's history knows full well that that can be laid at the feet of Bush. That has improved under Obama for 3 solid years.

Gas prices are double? No they aren't. They are double a specific date, and not for a good reason, either. Anytime I see someone talk about gas prices, their glaring idiocy becomes extremely apparent. The highest gas prices of all time were during Bush's last summer. The reason they fell so hard by inauguration day is because Bush destroyed the economy. Just absolutely devastated it. 800,000 jobs lost every month (now we gain 200,000/month) Businesses weren't using gas because there was no business, and investors weren't investing in gas because the stock market had been wiped clean by the "pro-business" Republicans. You want to know what *IS* double it's value from 4 years ago? The stock market. So yeah, go learn what the meaning of "research," is.

Credit rating. Here's one where I actually have to give credit to Fox News. Ryan lied so much at the RNC that even Fox called him on it. The credit rating lie is one that even Fox admitted to. When downgrading the credit, the agency specifically cited the Republicans in congress as the reason for the downgrade. You don't have to extrapolate information there, you just have to know how to read and/or not selectively miss that even Fox conceded that point.

16 Trillion dollar debt. No. Obama did not create a 16 trillion dollar debt. In fact, he's raised the debt less than any Republican president in the last 35 years. Republicans raise debts and Democrats fix it. Heck, Clinton gave Bush a budget surplus and a shrinking debt. No Republican has ever succeeded at doing that. Of course, Bush managed to destroy that surplus and double the debt.

So yeah, research isn't just listening to someone else's talking points (and I KNOW you did because you cited the gas prices with zero understanding like a sheep) Research involves something special called facts and truth. And they don't just come to you from your pastor, you have to know how to use reason and logic and you have to go out and actively seek it out.

Do we really want a devout follower of Joseph Smith Jr. as president of the USA???

Young Joseph Smith Jr. was a traveling diviner who went town to town offering his “magical” services. Joseph claimed he could find buried Spanish treasure using “Peep” (Seer) stones, magical stones that gave him divining power. He “convinced” poor farmers getting them to pay him to prospect for buried Spanish treasure on their property. While boarding at the Hale house in Harmony, Pennsylvania, Smith met Emma Hale and began courting her. When Smith Jr. asked for Emma's hand, her father, Isaac Hale, objected because “Smith had no means of supporting his daughter other than “money digging” ( treasure hunting). On January 18, 1827, Smith and Emma "eloped to marry" against the the Hale family’s wishes and the couple moved in with Smith's parents in Manchester. Joseph Jr. was convicted of swindling farmers and the original court record is still on file today.

After his conviction Joe Jr., was looking for a new way to make a living. He claimed the angel “Moroni” (I am not making this up, it really is “Moroni”) visited him in 1823 and delivered “magic golden plates” to him in 1827. From 1827 until 1829 Joseph Smith Jr. was involved in “translating” the “magic Golden Tablets” delivered by “Moroni” which only he could see, and which were supposedly written in “Reformed Egyptian”. Along with the Tablets Joseph received more “Seer” stones and the “breastplate” only he could see or wear which would allow him to translate the “Reformed Egyptian” into the book of Mormon... I hope that Mitt and Ann will make sure they all return to the good old ways n get some real faith...put them on missions and all that work for free. Except the polls are starting to trend back to President Obama since the last debate.

Here is what is true: voters do not like candidates like Romney who are disrespectful to the Office of the Presidency, who denigrate women by a demand to own their bodies, and who denigrate voters by having their CEO buddies threaten them into stealing their vote.

Romney and Queen Ann, they don't want the Presidency for what they can do for America, but because it is a bright, shiny toy, they can show off to their friends.

Want war, vote Romney. The only hope for a safe and stable America is President Obama.

Blessings to George McGovern's family. He has passed away.

Sorry to hear of Senator McGovern's passing--thoughts and prayers to his family and friends.

NewDay---although we haven't seen all of Mitt's tax returns (and why wasn't he asked about this in the debates?), I wonder if another reason for his running is the repeal of the estate tax. He and his supporters would hugely benefit from that.

If "likely voters" excludes those who have already voted, this poll is good news for Presdent Obama since exit polls show he is leading early voting in the battleground states that have it.

I just spent the better part of the last three weeks in Steeler country about 30 minutes out of Pittsburg at the confluence of the Beaver and Ohio rivers. There are not many Romney fans in that area, judging by my conversations with people and the total lack of any Romney signs or stickers being displayed. If people in that area are supporting Romney they are ashamed to show it. Last night I drove from PA to South Carolina, and I thought this was interesting, of the 80 channels available in my hotel room in SC MSNBC is not a choice, I have a half dozen fox channels, every college football game being played in the country, three different styles of Gospel music or TV preaching, but no MSNBC.

Oh do I know about that fifty six channels and nothin on but bible class and soap oprey Forrest! Thank goodness for the internet! Yes, no one's an island and variety is the spice of life, gotta check the weather so the wind don't blow and so the wise old sayings go!
I'm noticing the same where I am. The folks back here are fed up with the scandals and lies, over and over - you know, the Scots Golfers club, the Coingater collector's clubs, the jailed ballroom dancer types...the drunken red nose bs and all that dig me baby yap, weird electronic machines, lost registration forms, ballots too, and them robo calls are getting pretty old, even for the busy gasoline guzzlin football fans and commuters along the freeways of the good old red and gray buckeye state!
We do see quite a few who are changing over and enjoying a new appreciation for the amazing history of blue here too. The state of the flowing rivers in the green woods, mysterious mounds and big lakes was also once the state of the unique and famous governor Eugene Debs and visited by Mother Jones, herself.

We keep noticing the closed down mills and factories, the broken promises, short jobs, constant funerals, the acid rain, the cold winters, the higher bills, the ground shaking like never before, lots of foreclosures, tornado's have been bad along the southern river, sick farmers and their kids can't afford health care, bearded toothless guys have been spotted grunting up in the hills in the bushes with vacant stares during deer hunting season which is very dangerous, frequent pollution and fumes from the smokestacks, and all kinds of strange things like our wild geese migrating the wrong way and crows dropping out of the skies just like that.
Now we just love fine American traditions and the old ways, but we love the family-safe and egalitarian ways of the broad based working middle class more. So here we are on Main Street, working again this election season to keep our local working folk working on at least a minimum wage in safe conditions in our local shops because, like before, that's what it has always taken to build and keep the middle class back here. We have a lot of seniors in our families too, so we are making sure they have the basics which is necessary and stocking up or homeless shelters as we prepare for the below freezing days and nights during the months of winter.
So those out there who make under 250 thou a year, come on over and join us under the big blue umbrella at the county fair or on Main Street over Halloween and Thanksgiving, and we will keep you dry along with the rest of us when it rains...and Vote DEMOCRAT so we can continue to be here for you!!! United we stand, so don't get lost or fall alone... remember because someday you may need one of the basic community services like food, shelter, dental, medical or heat, and if there isn't any support for that help or funds in the kitty, well, you can just imagine no back up if you suddenly need it back here in the winter.

(This add has been brought to you by all of your nurses, teachers, police, fire fighters, bakers, candle stick makers, basket weavers, chiropractors, quilters, roofers, painters, recyclers, merchants, mechanics, manicurists, ministers and trash collectors, counselors, dentists, real estate agents, homemakers, the water purification plant workers, fence builders, brick layers, back hoe experts, bankers, doctors, lawyers, veterinarians and all known as We the People who live here, oh!! and the flag company that you can help keep in business with the purchase of just one of our lovely beautiful red, white and blue flags!)

If an NBC poll says they are tied it is more likely Romney is ahead by several points! NBC is desparate to see Obama re-elected. Let's hope Comcast (parent of NBC) comes to their senses in 2013 and decides to force NBC to be less partisan.

Forcing NBC/MSNBC to be come less partisan would be the same as forcing FOX to do so. NBC has mapped out a market share and telling them to ignore that market would be anti-capitalist. I thought your type believed in the Capitalism of Jesus.

"We're workers at Bain Capital-owned Sensata, 2520 Walnut St, Freeport, Illinois. We're fighting to save our jobs from being shipped to China by the end of this year. We are calling on Mitt Romney to come to Freeport, IL and we will camp across the street from our plant for as long as it takes!

I'm going to order a pizza for these guys. They aren't bums without a job. They are workers for a company that Romney profits from. He made over $800,000.00 last year from his investment in this company. Check his tax returns. It is there in black and white. He still is going to lay off 170 workers and close the plant, all the while maintaining he is a job creator.

If only we could grow crops with that manure.

                                        Just a quick reminder Relly...

Tie dye is on the freeway, but there's a blue horizon up ahead. Look up. The sky is the limit when we all pull together to build back our broad based middle class. Take biofuels and solar, wind sources for example. Despite all the attempts to boo hoo it, and all the various blame game ads,

                                        http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2012/jul/20/mitt-romney/romney-ad-says-stimulus-money-went-buy-electric-ca/

If you do the research, it actually does work already in a non- monopolistic decentralized way, like with smaller suppliers, builders, roofers, and merchants for the local markets of residential energy providing savings, heat, light, appliances and the renewable energy benefits of cleaner air. We are improving and must keep going with Obama's plan, not change horses midstream as happened before! It is easy to forget that promises have already been kept for the American working People by this president and he intends to continue if given the chance to. Perhaps looking at a list of Obama's promises kept, plain and clear, will provide proof and remind you...

Oh yes we can and yes we will! Hope and Change is moving forward to the new cool clean peaceful progressive changes and technologies of alternative energy for America We the People need, with new training for new jobs now! @ Jody you know its gonna be Romney giving the concession speech, that man is up there talking and is not giving any details about how he's gonna do all the things he says he will do.Except gather a binder full of women.Hmmm I wonder if some of those women are part of that 47% of people that he is not concerned about.Just wondering, because I personally will not be voting for an idiot like Mitt Romney and I don't like that Paul Ryan and if the voters in this country along with the 47% that I hope isn't stupid enough to vote for them two idiots will not waste their votes on them because they will not be elected anyway. They will set this country back to where George W. Bush took it into a recession.

I don't know about all this left wing, right wing, liberal media, conservative garbage, but this is obviously the liberal media doing it's thing again. What an absolute joke. I can't wait until the ACTUAL numbers manifest themselves on election night and the near-landslide Romney victory puts all this garbage to rest. Obama is done people, kaput. The liberal media can't save him anymore, just like Liam Neeson said in Taken to the guy he electrocuted... "it won't save you".

I would think that if Wrongme was such a proponent of job creation and saving jobs, he would not be profiting from Bain Capital closing down the Sensata plant and laying off 170 workers AT THE SAME TIME HE IS PROMISING TO CREATE JOBS.

And sadly for Obama he is losing even worse in swing states. for instance the new PPP poll for OH shows Obama up by 1 with a Dem +8 sample. In 2008 it was only Dem +5 in Ohio. Even assuming a 2008 turnout (which wont happen) this PPP poll has Romney ahead by 2 in OH.

National polls show changes, overall. I think they should use a trend like adding the 2010 to the 08 turnout. Probably favoring the 2010 by 60%. But even the electoral College map is changing. Add to that the Libyan facts about what the administration knew are starting to come out. Watergate with killings this time.

Wow! For NBC to say this race is "tied" Obama must be behind by at least 10%.

Considering NBC has been using a 2008 turnout model in their polling, this is terrible news for Obama. anyone who believes Democrats will turn out +7 over Republicans this cycle is not being realistic. There is no evidence that is the case. as a matter of fact there is tremendous evidence we are looking at a 2004 or better turnout for Republicans and Romney is winning Independents by 10 points.

Bottom line, if Obama is really losing Independents by 10 and losing the gender split, its already over. He cannot win and may lpse so badly it affects down ticket races.

I agree the model they use favors Obama, buy at least 7%, Republicans were not motivated to vote back in 08, this time Democrats are not as motivated. That is why you are seeing the polling reflecting this, wait another week and you will see Romney/Ryan growth trend continue. Because the last weeks polls will be the one History Remembers, and all polling agencys will want those to be accurate, for thier futures depend on it. The most accurate will be listened to in 2 and 4 years, the rest will go to the scrap heap.

What is important here is to look Romney's speeches. First he said that the poor was not his concern. Then he got caught on youtube saying that 47% of americans were victims. Is this the type of man you want to elect for president? He evades the question on how his tax plan will work? He constantly changes politcal positions, which shows indecisiveness. The President of U.S. should care for all of the people regardless of race or status. Mitt Romney does not show this capacity toward the American People. If Mitt Romney can not choose a firm politcal platform to run on, how can he possibly be decisive about America's future.
