Romney: Obama campaign reduced to 'petty attacks and silly word games'

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Mitt Romney responded to President Barack Obama's latest attack, accusing the GOP nominee of forgetting and shifting his positions on issues on Friday night by calling out the Obama campaign for resorting to "petty attacks and silly word games" in the final three weeks of the campaign.

"Have you been watching the Obama campaign lately?" Romney asked a crowd of several thousand supporters at an outdoor event Friday night. "It's absolutely remarkable. They have absolutely no agenda for the future. No agenda for America. No agenda for a second term. It's a good thing they won't have a second term."

"They've been reduced to petty attacks and silly word games. Just watch it. The Obama campaign has become the incredible shrinking campaign," Romney said.

Romney's counter came after Obama unveiled a new line of attack at a rally earlier Friday in Virginia, coining the term "Romnesia" to describe satirically how Romney might have changed positions on issues by forgetting his past stances over the years.

“He's changing up so much -- backtracking and sidestepping. We've got to name this condition that he's going through. I think ... I think it's called 'Romnesia'. Now, I'm not a medical doctor but I do want to go over some of the symptoms with you. Because I want to make sure nobody else catches it,” the president said.

“If you say you're for equal pay for equal work, but you keep refusing to say whether or not you'd sign a bill that protects equal pay for equal work, you might have Romnesia,” Obama said to laughs. “If you say women should have access to contraceptive care, but you supported legislation that would let your employers deny you contraceptive care, you might have a case of Romnesia.”

Romney continued his own new assault on what he claimed was the lack of a second term agenda for the Democratic administration, a chord he has been striking at each appearance since the second debate.

"The president has no jobs agenda. We keep on asking him: What are you going to do to create jobs? He has nothing new. He says well we're going to go forward," Romney said. "Forewarned is a better term."

“Here’s just part of President Obama’s agenda for a second term: double our exports, create a million manufacturing jobs, cut oil imports in half, recruit 100,000 math and science teachers, train two million workers at community colleges, and reduce the deficit by more than $4 trillion," Obama campaign spokesman Danny Kanner responded in a statement.

Romney and vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan's joint appearance in the Sunshine State, their third such joint stop here -- and Romney's plan to stay here through Monday night's debate -- reflect the closeness of the race here. A new poll from CNN/ORC shows the Florida in a statistical dead heat -- with Romney claiming 49 percent of the vote to Obama's 48 percent.

At a fundraiser in Boca Raton on Friday, Ryan told donors their late gifts could make the difference in financing a turnout operation that will determine the winner of this often-decisive battleground state.

"Your dollars are going straight to voter turnout, to voter education, to cutting thru the clutter, to giving the country a choice that they themselves deserve," Ryan said.

Romney will do anything to distract from his record as someone who destroyes American companies, steals pensions, fires people and ships jobs to China. Great guy you conservatives have !

Governor Romney does not have an inner core in that he lacks conviction. I have seen him change positions on so many topics so many times that I come away confused as to what he actually believes. He doesn't seemed principled enough to stand on any core beliefs "though the heavens falls". I remember a favorite quote of mine in which the author stated,"If you have not found something for which to die...you are not worthy of the life which you have." I'm not naive enough to think that politicians have it within themselves to care about my family as much as I do but I would like to know or think that they believe in a core set of values that don't change depending upon what audience or special interest group happens to be listening. In other words, tell me what you believe really and then I can make an informed decision. How is it that people...rational people could actually blindly follow someone like the governor who consistently changes his stance. Don't take my word for it...google "Romney flip flops". I would honestly be afraid if he was President because he is easily manipulated by the wealthy and people with agendas that may not be in the best interest of the American people. I listened to his 47% comment. He is an elite who looks down his snobby nose at the rest of us wretched peasants. He doesn't care about a safety net because he knows that he, his wife, nor his kids will ever need it. He doesn't really care about much of anything but getting more power and money.

Romney said that Obama was wrong to save the American auto industry and that it would go bankrupt if he tried, then he claimed that it was his idea all along, now he is trying to sell his lies in Michigan and Ohio, states where the Auto Industry is a huge employer. What a fraud. BTW, Romney made at least $15.3 Million on the Auto Rescue. Mitt Romney is a Liar and is bad for America

Well, once again, there is a problem with these whussies about everything that is a minor slight to them!...I remember Mitt's favorite campaign engine, the spurious fox news channel, incessantly vomiting out hurtful mistruths and conspiracy theories about Our President Obama since even before his inauguration! Calling him a "muslim"(not that being muslim is "an unforgivable sin" that must be avoided if you ever want to run for the highest office in the land) or trying to imply that he was not born here. And through all of this malarkey, the President has shown a great restraint and a complete faith in The Constitution of the United States of America's Right to "Freedom of Speech". And shows it, by his ever steady onward march toward that promise land called mutual respect for all Americans!...Unlike Mr. Romney and company, who, on any given day, has told a record breaking amount of lies and misstatements to this date. And all of this has been documented and catalogued for all intelligent beings to witness and decide for themselves which candidate is being truthful! I just would like to know why it is that Mr. Romney and Mr. Ryan are continuing with all of the lies?...They shouldn't be worrying about the latest nickname that has been given to them! They should be trying to figure out how to infuse "real truth" into their campaign...But...I could be wrong...LOL...I am just a messenger...Peace!

The danger to America is not Barack Obama but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the Presidency. It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president. The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails America . Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The Republic can survive a Barack Obama, who is, after all, merely a fool. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made him their president.

    mikeSJ,

I have to disagree. The real danger to America, in my opinion, are the millions of middle class white males who buy into the BS spoonfed to them on an almost daily basis by Limbaugh, FOX, and the paid minions of the Koch Brothers, convincing themselves that somehow the 1% really DOES have their best interests at heart.

No matter how much you buy into their 'vision' for America, draped in red, white, and blue as it always is, they will NEVER let you in the door. EVER.

You are insignificant to Romney, but you have bought into the lie hoping to be invited to the table. Well, you just might get there, but only to take the order and refill the champagne glass.

Pity, really, as you seem smarter than most from the Right who post here.

Here's a word for Mitt - China. At Bain Mitt Romney practically invented "outsourcing" or sending American jobs overseas, a practice which Bain continues to do. Mitt Romney is still an investor in Bain. It the 47% tape Mitt Romney talked glowingly of a factory in China where women were paid less than $1 an your, slept 8 to a small room. The factory was surrounded by a barb wire fence. Mitt Romney was personally invested in that plant and urged others to invest in China. When President Obama sued a Chinese tire company because they were dumping tires in the U.S. Mitt Romney said it was the wrong thing to do and that it would hurt the economy and cost jobs. He was talking about the Chinese economy and Chinese jobs. President Obama saved 1,000 American jobs. Mitt Romney is a fool, a fraud and a liar.

Except for the negative GOP trolls on this site who are propelled through their worthless lives on one fuel source. Their virulent Racist Hatred of President Obama. Their words over here ring hollow and are wasted. People over here just laugh them back to their Fox News house of horrors.Trust me folks, they will disappear completely on MSNBC threads after Nov.6.

So Gov'ner, and his right wing minions; petty is as petty does. That man in black you see isn't President Obama stalking you. Its your lie keeper. Time to pay his bill on November 6.

They endorsed Obama in 2008 and supoort him again in 2012.

Their problem with Mitt is.....well, there are just too many versions of him.

President Obama should not have a hard time winning the debate on foreign policy. Sure Romney will try bringing up Libya and the death of the 4 brave Americans that gave their lives in service for this country and Obama should be prepared for this line of attack. However, I would advise the President that he bring up Mr.Romney's failures in regard to foreign policy. He should take about Romney's support for the Iraqi war which has cost thousands of Americans lives aswell as much national treasure. He should talk about how first we were told that the war was for Al Queda though they were based principally in Afghanistan at the time. Then how republicans changed it and stated that it was to hunt for weapons of mass destruction...which did not exist. And then finally he should point out how Romney and his cohorts then claimed it was to free the Iraqis. Obama should turn Romney's criticism about Israel back against him by stating that he's been outsourcing American jobs for so long that now he wants to outsource the office of the Presidency to Israel. Sure, Obama should continue to make it clear he supports Israel but that he American President that holds office should not be in the pocket of any foreign government. President Obama should talk about how Romney criticizes him for "leading from behind" and yet strives to criticize his administration on any imagined slight against our allies. The President should state that Israel is a nation to be respected and our ties with them will not be broken. He should also say that his number one priority is the American people...period. I would then advise him to reference Romney's gaffes on the world stage and even bring up republican attempts to slash funding of embassy security. Of course, Obama should mention that his administration has seen in his one term more members of Al Queda brought to justice than in all 8 years of George Bush combined. He should also talk about how Romney stated that "I would not move heaven and earth to get just one man (Osama Bin Laden) and how on day 1 in the Oval Office he made Bin Laden a priority. Lastly, he should give a vision of what his foreign policy in the future would look like. He should state how he is committed to working with our allies and that utilizing diplomacy will be the major aim of his administration in dealing with flare ups and hard to solve problems. He should talk about how he is committed to building coalitions with other nations so that if America is forced to act...we won't have to bear the brunt of it all along. He should say that he will not rush foolishly into any conflict without weighing the cost in blood and treasure and without having exhausted every other measures. He should then look straight into the camera and tell the American people, "The Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts are drawing to a close just like I promised when I first took office. Do you want Mr. Trigger happy in the White House that just has a habit of shooting first and aiming later or do you want a team in the White House that is committed to the American people first that really think...I mean really think before writing a check in blood and treasure that we don't want to have to cash".

Obama, the immature little child is having sissy fits because he feels offended from Romney's political jokes during last night's dinner. (BTW, the jokes were absolute home runs.)

In retaliation, he comes up with a lame and childish word like Romnesia, what Obama doesn't realize is that Obamaroids are a condition much worse and caused by excessive lies being blown out his rear like the Benghazi cover up and much more.

Obamaroids will be and already are the cause of his "shrinking campaign" and credibility as more people are realizing what a fraud this Prez is and always has been. (Just look at the recent polls.)

The cure for Obamaroids is complete removal of this failed fraud this November at the polls.

Oh, God. To see your disappointed little face on November 7th. Obama will win sir because I just believe that the number of American people that can actually utilize critical thinking skills outweigh those who don't. Conspiracy theory driven birthiers that think as a infant baby Obama concocted a scheme to forge a birth certificate so that he could move to the states and one day be President will loose. People who believe in the Blunt Admendment and Personhood laws that criminalize abortion in cases of rape, incest and the mothers health will loose. People who think that by giving the rich more money jobs will miraculously appear will loose. By the way...where are all the jobs. Its been 30 years since Reagan introduced trickle down via your party and yet we see that the only real growth came under the Clinton administration. You people really need to think and get outside your Fox news and Rush Limbaugh boxes. Your to busy from the start concocting foolish reasons to oppose Obama. He's anti-Christ, He's a socialist (though the New Deal) involved far more "socialistic" policy than anything Obama has done. I got one for you. He's mixed and that means he's just not white enough for the likes of many of the old angry white men in the republican party. When your party states that your number one priority to make make Obama a one term President that tells me that your sides hatred of him goes so deep that there must be a deep seated resentment of the man. I know you probably don't understand half of what I've said but I'm sure Obamacare will have a pill for you.

DOMA is declared unconstitutional. The Lilly Ledbetter Act is law. And so much else IN SPITE of Republican efforts to trash the economy and make the middle class poorer.

                #91.2 - Sat Oct 20, 2012 2:54 AM EDT

                Time for the truth

You're going to have to do better than that. The auto industry is alive and well you say. That's funny becasue you didn't mention in which country. Mazda recently shut down its only US production plant. GM announced that it building its new manufacturing plants in China while shutting down production of several hybrid models assembled in this country. Oh and your going to love this one. GM just announced that its going to start importing its new Spark model.

Obamacare's benefits don't mature until 2024 and Obama is taking money out of Medicare to put in slush funds to make it look like Obamacare is providing benefits. Of course, Employers start paying the tax starting in January 2013 and citizens start paying in January 2014 provided they don't get on the exemption list.

The economy is improving so much that Obama is buying back the bad mortgages from banks like Wells Fargo who has already began exporting it Americans jobs to India.

The economy is growing and that's why Obama is going to be buying back all the bad student loans because the people who have them can't find work to pay them back.

The economy is doing so well that our government was going to shut down twice in fourteen months and a record high number 46.37 million Americans are receiving food stamps.

DOMA might be declared unconstitutional, but Obama is leaving it up to the States to decide for themselves if same sex marriages are legal. So I guess you don't think this is a civil rights issue? For if you did you would be asking Obama why the justice department isn't handling this as a civil right issue?

Bury you head a little deeper in the sand and stay ignorant. I don't blame you. After all it is said that ignorance is bliss and what better way to enjoy your bliss is there then having your head buried in the sand.

What: let me just pick one of your confusing mis-statements. The country almost shut down twice because of the Obstructionist Republicans. The ratings agency that downgraded the credit rating laid the blame squarely on the Republicans. As for the rest of your claims they are equally false and can as easily be shown to be so. lets see, Obama extended the Bush tax cuts to the rich rather than implement his tax reform that would have him paying the higher taxes he got on National TV and told the nation he wanted to pay. Lets ignore that why don't we. that not a lie is it.

I quite didn't catch the part where you were telling us which branch of the service and for how many years Obama served defending our country.

Our jobs have been getting shipped to China since the 70's and even though Obama bailed out GM, its planning to build it new manufacturing plants in China.

But Obama had a prime chance to Protect American job with Obamacare but he didn't. Funny how it was getting reported that the health insurance companies were making plans to ship their jobs overseas during the Obamacare debates and not one word of job protection was added to Obamacare.

Funny that you have a problem with Romney bailing out the US Olympic, yet you don't have a problem with Obama bailing out the Banks. Can't wait to see the Bonus money the Bank executives give themselves after Obama gets done buying back all their bad mortgages and students loans.

Do you want to borrow my shovel so you can dig that hole you stick your head in a little deeper.

let's see: the Republicans held unemployed people hostage by refusing to extend unemployment benefits, which help the economy, unless he agreed to extend the Bush tax cuts, which are not helpful to the economy when given to upper income people who usually do not spend the money but put it in the bank.

Funny that you are not able to tell the differnce between the Olympics and the Banks. The money that Romney got for the Olympics was in spite of his crowing about building it himself and contrary to his myth of self reliance. I agree with you that it is totally unacceptable that the bank executives should use bailout money for personal profit. It is telling that they are supporting Republicans in the election.

Here's another word for Romney - Greed. As a vulture capitalist, Mitt Romney destroyed companies, but even worse, he destroyed lives. He threw workers out on the street, raided pension funds, shipped jobs to China and other countries and walked away with 10s of Millions of Dollars.

www.youtube.com When Mitt Romney Came to Town. Watch if you want to know another facet of the greedy, lying, Mitt Romney.

You forgot to use the word "Bain". We haven't heard that one in quite a while. So you need to do a post using the word "Bain", that'll show 'em. Use that word to demonize Romney. That'll show 'em!!

Bian did not destroy companies. Ask Bill Clinton, who says Romney did an exemplary job at Bain. Bain bought failing companies and saved what they could of them, then resold them, sometimes at a profit and sometimes at a loss (and sometimes just lost the entire investment). It's no different than someone buying a junker 1960's muscle car, restoring it, and selling it for a profit. Instead of the companies going out of business and losing all the jobs, it saved what it could and keep the company alive. You clearly have no concept of private equity. It's capitalism pure and simple, and it's what built the economy of this country to what it is. Call it greed if you like. It's what drives the creation of industries and the jobs that come with them.

Apparently you feel that you deserve the same as someone who worked harder and smarter than you and become successful. How un-american!

Obama's one and done, Benghazi is quickly becoming his final political demise, here comes the last and final debate on foreign policy and it won't be pretty for him.

It won't be pretty for the treasonous Mitt Romney who stood on the bodies of the slain Americans and waded through their blood to try to make cheap political points. Even Republicans criticized this complete failure of a human being for his antics. What makes it even worse - as tough as that might sound - is that Romney told a group of supporters, behind closed doors, that he was going to do this very thing, exploit a tragedy in the middle east as soon as one happened and he was sure that it would. What a totally worthless excuse for a human being.

Nice try but the Benghazi cover up has blown up in Obama's face getting worse as more documents being released exposing the lies.

Obama had the gall to go on the Bill from Mars show and described the death of Americans in Benghazi as "not very optimal." The families were outraged and blasted Obama for his insensitivity and coldness. This is the kind of mentality this Prez has in being almost completely out of touch and cold at the loss of human life under his command. Very sad state of mind and affairs.

BTW, the families after a month are also outraged that they haven't received full written explanation from Obama about how and why this happened.

Another word for Romney - Bankrupt. As in, let Detroit go Bankrupt. He later tried to claim credit for the government rescue. People in Michigan, Ohio and other states where the auto industry is so important know Romney for what he is - a bankrupt liar who only cares for himself.

Thank you for reminding me about the "Cash for Clonkers" program that increased the price of used cars so much that it put them out of reach of the people who needed them to find jobs.

Oops, just another of the many failed Obama bail outs that had him add over $6 trillion to the national debt in less than 4 years. You know about that don't you?

I guess hiring Bush's economic adviser Bernanke might not have been the smartest move for Obama, but hey, Obama say stay the same economic course.

Oops: the biggest driver of the debt is continuation of the Bush tax cuts. You are right, Obama needs to get the Bushies out of the government. Thanks for pointing out how failed the Bush policies were.

Used cars out of reach? You haven't looked at the prices of used cars have you.

If bush's policies were failure, and Obama hired Bush's economic advisor and stayed the Bush economic course of bailouts, stimulus and tax cuts to the rich on steroids and Obama has said in this campaign that we need to stay the course with the Bush economic polices, then how can you be supporting Obama. For the only way to get Bushies out of government is not to reelect Obama.

After all, the Bush/Bernanke economic team added $5.1 trillion to the national debt in 8 years while the Obama/Bernanke economic team added over $6 trillion to the National debt in less than 4 year.

If you say that the Bush economic policies were failures and you did, how can you not make the same claim about Obama's economic policies that are the same as Bush's only on steroids.

YOU are a very confused individual.

What happened in Detroit was pretty much what Romney suggested - a managed bankruptcy. All the scare tactics about the collapse of the auto industry was the usual preying on the stupidity and financial naivete of the public. Detroit was never going to go away, just reorganize. But Romney would be more likely to get new management that letting the guys who killed the industry stay in charge, which is what Obama and his cronies did in Detroit and with Wall Street.

He sold out the American people for the future campaign money. And now his idea of fiscal responsibility is to have even more "quantitative easing" financed by the Chinese. Sometimes it is necessary to spur the economy with the Fed policy and government spending, but o advocate it as a permanent condition is disastrous.

No it was not. What President Obama did for the car industry was what was necessary to save them and not put them into bankruptcy. He loaned them the funds to keep them thriving.

That's funny. All the documentaries I've see all say the same thing. That lack of communications between government agencies was responsible for the success of the 9/11 attacks. Bush claimed and congress claimed that they acted on the information that was provided to them.

Isn't it even more funny that Obama would use the same excuse for the Libya attack. Gee he must have written that excuse in his little note book after the 9/11 attacks just in case he was going to need it later. And what do you know, he needed it.

"“Here’s just part of President Obama’s agenda for a second term: double our exports, create a million manufacturing jobs, cut oil imports in half, recruit 100,000 math and science teachers, train two million workers at community colleges, and reduce the deficit by more than $4 trillion," Obama campaign spokesman Danny Kanner responded in a statement."

Pretty much the same kind of thing Obama said he would do in his first term, while he was campaigning in 2008, and didn't do. Where's those 5 million green energy jobs? Where's cutting the budget/deficit? And who believes he can cut oil imports in half? Get 100,000 math and science teachers? (Where's he going to get them? Asia? India? Europe?)

Obama has reduced his campaign to schoolyard one-upmanship and playing the envy card (Romney is richer than you so vote for me although I'm richer than you too).

I voted for Obama in 2008. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Hope and change? The hope has been squandered and the change has been negative. But I suppose there's not much else you can do when running on your record would be suicidal.
