Romney: Obama campaign reduced to 'petty attacks and silly word games'

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Mitt Romney responded to President Barack Obama's latest attack, accusing the GOP nominee of forgetting and shifting his positions on issues on Friday night by calling out the Obama campaign for resorting to "petty attacks and silly word games" in the final three weeks of the campaign.

"Have you been watching the Obama campaign lately?" Romney asked a crowd of several thousand supporters at an outdoor event Friday night. "It's absolutely remarkable. They have absolutely no agenda for the future. No agenda for America. No agenda for a second term. It's a good thing they won't have a second term."

"They've been reduced to petty attacks and silly word games. Just watch it. The Obama campaign has become the incredible shrinking campaign," Romney said.

Romney's counter came after Obama unveiled a new line of attack at a rally earlier Friday in Virginia, coining the term "Romnesia" to describe satirically how Romney might have changed positions on issues by forgetting his past stances over the years.

“He's changing up so much -- backtracking and sidestepping. We've got to name this condition that he's going through. I think ... I think it's called 'Romnesia'. Now, I'm not a medical doctor but I do want to go over some of the symptoms with you. Because I want to make sure nobody else catches it,” the president said.

“If you say you're for equal pay for equal work, but you keep refusing to say whether or not you'd sign a bill that protects equal pay for equal work, you might have Romnesia,” Obama said to laughs. “If you say women should have access to contraceptive care, but you supported legislation that would let your employers deny you contraceptive care, you might have a case of Romnesia.”

Romney continued his own new assault on what he claimed was the lack of a second term agenda for the Democratic administration, a chord he has been striking at each appearance since the second debate.

"The president has no jobs agenda. We keep on asking him: What are you going to do to create jobs? He has nothing new. He says well we're going to go forward," Romney said. "Forewarned is a better term."

“Here’s just part of President Obama’s agenda for a second term: double our exports, create a million manufacturing jobs, cut oil imports in half, recruit 100,000 math and science teachers, train two million workers at community colleges, and reduce the deficit by more than $4 trillion," Obama campaign spokesman Danny Kanner responded in a statement.

Romney and vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan's joint appearance in the Sunshine State, their third such joint stop here -- and Romney's plan to stay here through Monday night's debate -- reflect the closeness of the race here. A new poll from CNN/ORC shows the Florida in a statistical dead heat -- with Romney claiming 49 percent of the vote to Obama's 48 percent.

At a fundraiser in Boca Raton on Friday, Ryan told donors their late gifts could make the difference in financing a turnout operation that will determine the winner of this often-decisive battleground state.

"Your dollars are going straight to voter turnout, to voter education, to cutting thru the clutter, to giving the country a choice that they themselves deserve," Ryan said.

"Petty word games?"

You mean like when John Kerry changes his mind, the GOP was all over him for "flip-flopping," but when Mitt does it, it's "walking back his remarks."

What a bunch of GOP Bull .....

What Iacocca does not say is that he endorsed Kerry in 2004 and Bill Richardson in 2008. He supported GWB in 2000. So he's not a right wing crazy.

Iacocca: America needs a turnaround, which is why I'm voting Romney

Former Chrysler Corp. chairman Lee Iacocca says that Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney gets his vote in November. (Olivia Gatti / Associated Press)

I've seen a lot of situations that needed a turnaround in my time, and I know one when I see one. Trust me, America needs a turnaround.

America is in deep trouble. After four years, economic growth is still anemic, our annual deficits were not cut in half as promised, and our staggering $16 trillion federal debt hangs over us and our kids like the plague. Our people are hurting, they can't find jobs, they have lost a major part of their net worth, the number of Americans living in poverty is at unacceptable levels, and we just aren't doing the things that would get our country back on the right track.

Like any turnaround it must begin by honestly facing our problems; hope and speeches won't get our people back to work. It will require experienced leadership that can create and lead policy change that will enable a more robust and competitive America. We need leadership that understands that government, just like American families, can't continue to spend beyond its means. We must find leadership that won't pander to the people, but rather will speak honestly to them about our situation, explaining in simple terms what we have to do to get back on the right track. And we need leadership that can bring us together in a sense of shared responsibility so that we can move forward as a team. All of us. As Americans.

America needs new leadership

Mitt Romney has successfully led both public and private sector turnarounds. He is a bright and successful man; he is a good man, a caring man, a man of integrity, family and faith. Importantly, he recognizes we are in a tough situation. With dozens of years of real world experience in the public and private sectors, he knows what he's talking about. His policies will enable a stronger America, one in which all Americans can share. He was groomed and trained for this moment.

The future of our country is at stake

If you are out of work or worried about your job, having trouble making ends meet, are worried about your kids' future or your own, or if you just have a nagging sense that as Americans we can do better than this, it's time to wake up and stop just hoping it will all work out in a few more years. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it won't!

It's time for straight talk.

I'm asking you to vote for change that will get us moving in the right direction, and to be ready to be part of the solution. Everything depends on it. We don't have time to waste. It's time to make America great again.

Vote for Mitt Romney for president.

If most people are interviewing someone for a job, they want to see prior experience. Here's the sole prior political experience of the GOP candidate for president: one term as governor of a small state.

Yes, that's it. It wasn't any more than that because Mitt so royally screwed up that his approval ratings were in the basement and the voters would have handed his *ss to him in a landslide should he have been foolish enough to run again.

How do the Massachusetts voters feel now? Romney is down by double digits in the polls.

Doesn't matter who endorsed him. You can't polish that turd.

Case closed.

"It's time for straight talk." Ok, let us talk straight. How does one walk back 533 lies in 30 weeks?

How?? And why would a reasonable person choose to believe someone with a bad case of Romnesia? Could that be considered petty?

Mitt Romney tells 533 lies in 30 weeks, Steve Benen documents them

Anemone88, his private sector experience is equally unimpressive. He had a total of 1 job in his life, started with money he inherited.

More than 1 out of 5 companies that survived a Bain hostile takeover went under, lost all their assets, employees and pension plans. That's some job creation record!!!!

Now he is trying to execute a hostile takeover of our country. No plan, no transparency, no disclosure, NO THANKS!

Anemone -

Then how did Obama get elected (you voted for him, correct?)? He had absolutely NO experience in any sort of leadership position - and his Presidency shows it - from a failed economy, to not being able to work with Congress, to Fast & Furious, to the foreign policy failure in Benghazi.

Obama is a proven failure in all aspects of being President - except for going on vacations on the taxpayers' dime. Oh and campaigning non-stop since he was elected to the Senate. (And as a junior Senator, he was not in a leadership position there either.)

Personally, being a governor is exactly the type of experience we need to look for in a candidate for President.

this is Obama's agenda for the next four years:

    one million new manufacturing jobs,

hire 800,000 new math and science teachers so we can start competing internationally again.

Double exports, place tariffs and lessen imports.

    Cut oil imports in half,

leave the tax break for the middle income, raise taxes on the 1%.

Create more infrastructure jobs through government grants and contracts(roads, schools, bridges etc.)

that is way better than Romney's 5 point plan

20% tax cut across the board that doesn't make any sense (especially if your are working @ Walmart, Family dollar or Sears) your income per year avg is 14,000 as a stocker, cashier or whatever...pick one

If Romney becomes President companies like Walmart will benefit the most...paying minimum wage @ $8.30 while getting a 20% tax break...doesn't make sense ..can you say slave labor

For a real reality check, Obama extended the bush tax cuts expecting the corporations to help the economy by hiring more...they set him up! they never intended on hiring more people they actually did the opposite

Overnight staffing from 2008 to 2010 at Walmart decreased from 60 to 22 workers per Superstore.

Profits per day in groceries increased from $180,000 to 246,000 (thats just the grocery gross...not including electronics or furniture or household.

Walmart implemented a multitask based module to get the 22 workers to finish said one task (stocking 3,000 items in a strict time management application..then you had to punch in a computer for another task...can you say Slave labor loud enough!) doing this @ $8.30 to 9.30 per hr is ridiculous.

Don't get me wrong...Romney will definitely create jobs..but they will be the low wage paying jobs..and millions of them (Corporations are people remember)LMMAO

I don't like the silliness either. The crucial undecided voters are more serious mindedd. If they are to be swayed, they need more than fluff. Obama should challenge Romney to name his economic team. Is there anyone qualified and willing to call what Romney has a plan. It's not even wishful thinking. It's a lie. He's putting forth an agenda he KNOWS won't work. Moreover, Obama should show economists supporting his strategy. One that is already being proven to work. A recently reported study says that no matter who is elected, in 4 years the country is on track to create 12 million new jobs. The only thing that could throw that in reverse is if Romney is elected and the GOP controls both houses of congress. Massive deregulation could lead to catastrophy. Romney has said repeatedly he believes in the markets. Of course he does. He's a Wall Street insider. Put him in charge and they can finish the job they started in 2008.

There's them, then there's us. They're rich, and we're suffering. They're not apologetic about holding onto their obscene wealth; and we want them to use their wealth to create jobs and opportunities. They pay low taxes on their huge income; we pay a much higher tax rate with fewer deductions. They are the haves; we have the have-nots. They are either derisive or indifferent toward us, and our patience with them is growing thin.

I don't care about silly word games or even Tax bean-counting. I care about the kind of 'family values" Republicans want to foist on this country.

QUOTED from a news story: AUSTIN, Texas (Reuters) - A Texas health program that serves more than 100,000 low-income women will shut down if Planned Parenthood is allowed to continue participating, the state's health and human services chief said on Thursday.

Planned Parenthood has asked a federal appeals court to reconsider a lower court ruling that allows Texas to ban it from the program.

"If they prevail in that case, and the courts say, ‘You have to include Planned Parenthood,' then, yes, (the program) goes away," Texas Health and Human Services Executive Commissioner Dr. Kyle Janek said.

The Texas program is at the heart of a dispute between the Republican-dominated state government and the Democratic administration of President Barack Obama. Several other states have tried to cut off funding for Planned Parenthood.

The federal government, which pays for 90 percent of the $39-million-a-year program, has said it will not renew the funding because Texas decided to enforce a law that had been on the books for several years barring funding for abortion providers and affiliates.

END QUOTE. So, we get it: Republicans care more about their silly little religious ideals about abortion (which I can't find in the Bible, BTW and I have read the book cover-to-cover), and a program to help poor women (I do believe it is somewhere in the Bible that Jesus believed in helping the poor.) In fact hating abortion and gay people seem to be the only things Republicans do care about. That's why nobody, and especially no women, should ever vote Republican for any office.

He is a MORMON, any good GOP voter sees this as he is a heretic, he has changed direction on abortion, lied about being a hunter, both supported stem cell research and said it needs to be stopped, raise the minimum wage and stop raising the minimum wage, campaign limits need to be in place but they are unconstitutional. Romney is a TOTAL IDIOT WILLING TO SAY ANYTHING TO GET ELECTED. LOOK IT UP!

For four years now we've had to endure the shrill whining of a few crybabies claiming to be the "99%". Let me tell you this, I'm not even CLOSE to being one of "the rich" (whatever the hell that means) and NONE of you whiny-ass jerks has the right to speak for me. The vast majority Americans aren't jealous of others just because they have more money than us. We just want to be able to keep what we have earned and not be forced to support your lazy a$$es. Only you sniveling little a-holes that want to get a free ride in life would have the gall to say you represent "99%". Here's a news flash for you: The official Washington endorsement of your self-absorbed pity-party will come to an end in just under 3 weeks. Then you jerks can go back to your parent's basement and mooch off of them some more and stop making real hard-working Americans put up with your little tantrums.

You're so sad and deluded, Daddio927 as well as completely wrong. The only way Sociopath Romney could ever win this election is by cheating. Seeing how he owns a lot of the voting machines, I wouldn't put it past him. The felon will end up in a jail cell if he tries, not the oval office. Obama for another 4 years... FACT!

If you are right the country is in for four years of trouble. Romney says $250k is an average wage, do you think that's what he pays all the people cleaning his toilets and mowing his lawn? Romney and the GOP want everyone to work for nothing so they can get rich.

The largest newspaper in Utah has come out in favor of Obama. How petty of them!

That makes it sound like Rack and Ruin can not even carry any of their home states.

lol liberals. It's over and you know it. Stop prolonging the pain by listening to pipsqueaks like Silver. We are electing Romney and there is nothing you can do about it.

Kevin, you are so melodramatic. It's not over, and nobody knows the outcome, but most of us don't seem too worried. Stop trying to sound ... menacing, or whatever it is you're trying to pull off.

Jeez, I can't wait for this election to be over. Sure, there are liberals who go a little overboard, but the conservatives who come here with nothing of truth or substance to say, except "lol liberals" and "Obummer" are just mean to the core and more than a little creepy.

Ugh, I used to be able to find a little humor in the nonsense, but I'm starting to want to go all Tagg Romney on someone's @ss.

Romney supporters are funny. Dumbest group of gullible idiots on the planet. FYI children, Mitt Romney wouldn't piss on you, if you were on fire. All he wants is your vote, he wouldn't do a damn thing for you except send your job to China or India. Pathetic, every last one.

So true rev. Just think if Romney were to be elected a lot of the people voting for him would suddenly find out they made a huge mistake when he cuts off their food stamps, welfare, medicaid and other govt handouts. It is a known fact that 9 of the 10 top states in America receiving the most federal aid are solid GOP states. It would be poetic justice to see this happen...

Mirror mirror on the wall - who's the pettiest of them all.

Why it's you - Mr. Romney. Ask any of the debate moderators - they'll tell you so.

As it stands it appears Romney will be our next president. If he continues to make the same gains....

^ He's already losing the gains from his 1st debate, because of his humiliation in the 2nd debate.

In poll-of-polls Obama is back ahead for the 1st time today.

If Romney loses again on monday he has no chance whatsoever.

Sorry, but your projection is not supported by the facts.

Romney has a chance, true, but he is facing a considerable uphill battle in the Electoral College.

Although Real Clear Politics currently has him with a slight lead in electoral votes, 206 to 201, Obama leads in six of the remaining ten toss-up states to Romneys three, with Virginia being tied.

Romney can only win if he holds on to Florida, Colorado, and New Hampshire, where he has small leads, takes Virginia and then steals either Ohio or Wisconsin.

Conversely, Obama has mutiple scenarios which would give him the minimum 270 electoral votes.

Think about the ridiculousness of your statement. Yes Romney has a slight lead in the battleground states, but Obama leads in 6 of the toss ups. That doesn't make a lick of sense. Nice work

Romney is starting to loose it, wife Ann says she is concerned about his mental health.

I would suggest watching Romney's body language during the next debate and tell me this is a man ready to deal with the stress of being president.

              "loose" it.....

I would suggest you work on your spelling before you try your hand at body language.

Kevin: thanks for being a spell checker. Now, you may want to consult a fact checker before you make yourself look any more out of touch.
