Biden's 'bullets' quip draws GOP rebuke

Updated 5:04 p.m.: LAS VEGAS -- Vice President Joe Biden drew a rebuke from Republicans on Thursday after he referenced GOP vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan's policy manifesto, "Young Guns," by warning that "the bullets are aimed at you."

After Biden mentioned the book, which Ryan co-wrote with two other top House Republicans, a man in the crowd of about 500 at a Las Vegas union hall yelled out "they have guns with no bullets!"

Vice President Joe Biden delivers his own rant on former Gov. Mitt Romney's "binders full of women" tale and spits out one-liners while campaigning in Las Vegas, Nevada.

"Unfortunately, the bullets are aimed at you," Biden said, to mirth from the boisterous crowd.

The exchange prompted an immediate statement from Romney spokesman Brendan Buck, who decried the language as "over the top."

"Today's over-the-top rhetoric by Vice President Biden is disappointing, but not all that surprising," Buck wrote. "In the absence of a vision or a plan to move the country forward, the Vice President is left only with ugly political attacks beneath the dignity of the office he occupies."

No stranger to controversy, Biden faced heavy scrutiny in August for telling a heavily black audience in southern Virginia that Romney's Wall Street deregulation would "put y'all back in chains."

Ironically, Biden opened his remarks in Nevada by doing something he often does: joking about his propensity to veer off-script.

"The vice president’s exchange with an audience member today was clearly a reference to how the policies discussed in Paul Ryan’s book, 'Young Guns,' would devastate the middle class," said Amy Dudley, a campaign spokeswoman for the vice president. "Given that people don't assume that Paul Ryan is literally a gun, it probably makes sense not to assume that Joe Biden was speaking literally about bullets."

The Sin City stop was Biden's last campaign event of a 2-day western swing that focused heavily on women's issues and immigration.

In Las Vegas, Biden warned that a Romney presidency would likely erase the gains of advocates of abortion rights.

"After these debates, you have any doubt who they will likely appoint to the Supreme Court of the United States," Biden said. "How much chance do you think Roe v. Wade will survive after four years of a Romney Supreme Court?"

He also uncorked a new zinger, adapted from yesterday's full news cycle of Democrats labellng Romney's plans as "sketchy."

"Well folks, I don't think they were just sketchy," he declared. "I think they were etch-a-sketchy!"

GOP, shut up...Biden is very appropriate in saying that.

.

As Nobel Prize winning author Sir. Winston Churchill said...

.

Politics are almost as exciting as war, and quite as dangerous. In war you can only be killed once, but in politics many times.

.

Imagine GOP only pays lip service to Churchill when they say they are a fan of Churchill. Biden really truly lives up to the billing as a student of Churchill.

The NRA takes aim with its ads constantly at our President. Romney's son threatened physical violence against our President and now they want to appear non violent? Give me a break! Most people are NOT violent racist bigots if they are Republicans. However if you are a violent racist bigot, you are a Republican. The civil rights issues of the 1960's collected all these racist bigots and their offspring into the Republican ranks 50 years ago. It will take a while before their violent hatred subdues.

Bill Clinton, Newt Gingrich and Starr were all screwing around on their marriages during that whole ordeal. They are all men whores. Difference between the three is that Bill Clinton was an excellent leader along side being a horrible husband. The only person he owes anything to is Hillary. Not me. Not you. And every man or woman on these posts who has ever had an affair understands "I did not have sex with that woman"! So give it a break already. Welfare spending has grown substantially over the past four years, reaching $746 billion in 2011 — or more than Social Security, basic defense spending or any other single chunk of the federal government — according to a new memo by the Congressional Research Service.

The steady rise in welfare spending, which covers more than 80 programs primarily designed to help low-income Americans, got a big boost from the 2009 stimulus and has grown, albeit somewhat more slowly, in 2010 and 2011. One reason is that more people are qualifying in the weak economy, but the federal government also has broadened eligibility so that more people qualify for programs.

Sen. Jeff Sessions, the ranking Republican on the Senate Budget Committee, who requested the Congressional Research Service report, said it underscores a fundamental shift in welfare, moving away from a Band-Aid and toward a more permanent crutch.

“No longer should we measure compassion by how much money the government spends but by how many people we help to rise out of poverty,” the Alabama conservative said. “Welfare assistance should be seen as temporary whenever possible and the goal must be to help more of our fellow citizens attain gainful employment and financial independence.”

Overall, welfare spending as measured by obligations has grown from $563 billion in fiscal 2008 to $746 billion in fiscal 2011, or a jump of 32 percent.

The report from CRS -- a nonpartisan service that provides policy and legal analysis to members of Congress and staffers, regardless of party affiliation -- tells a complex story of American taxpayers’ generosity in supporting a varied social safety net, ranging from food stamps to support for low-income AIDS patients to child-care payments to direct cash going from taxpayers to the poor.

What a complete waste of indignation. The GOP and Fox news do this whenever the news cycle isn't quite what they want. With apologies to Roy Williams, they are like the North Carolina basketball team. "We were fouled. Give us a free throw. Technical! Give us free throws and the ball. We shoot free throws so well. It's what we live for." Those over privileged pugnacious little GOP turd blossoms have no shame. But Candy Crowley was their referee from hell. She had the gaul to say that Little Lord Fauntleroy was WRONG. She had the gaul to ask him to stick to the format. And then Obama said authoritatively, "Proceed Guvna." Romney looked like he wanted to kill somebody when that debate was over. The truth about Biden is that he is old school like Harry Truman. The GOP hated Truman and lambasted him incessantly about how he wasn't "refined," and how much gaul he had to fire McArthur - who had TWICE directly disobeyed presidential orders. (Read William Manchester re the Bonus Marchers.) Anyway, Biden doesn't want any damn free throw. He doesn't want to bow or curtsy. He just wants to give 'em hell. And he has. And women are fine with that. And women don't think Obama was mean on Tuesday. But women would like to keep the right wing from probing their vaginas. And they would like the pugnacious little turd blossoms to pay them appropriately for their work.

Biden is a complete idiot and has always been part of the problem in Washington. Only liberals applaud him because they believe the rhetoric while ignoring reality. Here is what liberals can take to the bank if Obama is re-elected. The Bush tax cuts will expire for everyone. That is exactly what Obama wants to happen and he is poised to make it a reality with the prospect of blaming Republicans.

Since Obama has said he will veto any bill that does not increase the taxes on the top earners, and Republicans in the house say no tax increases period, the stage is set. Obama will never see a bill to veto since the Senate under Harry Reid will never send him one. So the tax cuts will automatically expire for everyone, the automatic cuts in spending will be across the board, and Obama will claim he had nothing to do with it.

But tax increases is what he wants, and he knows that unless the Bush tax cuts expire for the middle class, the revenue generated will be a drop in the bucket. The middle class tax cuts are where the real revenue is and Obama knows it. Everyone will see major tax increases under Obama, and it will happen in January. This has been a well thought out and calculated strategy by Obama, he gets the tax increases he wants, and he feels no one can blame him.

"beyonddemocrat", Harry S. Truman was possibly one of the biggest idiots to inhabit the w.h., and "refinement" has nothing to do with being a president. Lincoln was raised in a log cabin, and worked on a railroad long before he became a lawyer. And yet he became one of the greatest, and most eloquent presidents we have ever had. "Bite Me" Biden wouldn't know eloquency if it bit him on his behind. And as for your Crowely comment, it was blatenly obvious that she was in Obama's pocket from the get-go. She even stated this as a fact herself, ex post facto, which is the typical m.o. for you silly, deluded liberals. As for your "faux indignation", pshaw. The fact of the matter is, the progressive/liberal/democrats see the writing on the wall, and these little "turd blossems" are in fact, scrambling to salvage what's left of a dismal three years, and eleven months. Oh, and try not to hurt yourself when dismounting from your "high horse".

Although I am not surprised by the comment it is very disappointing. It will be such a blessing when in January Romney and Ryan will take over the role of president and vice-president. Then we will restore dignity and respect back to the president, vice-president, White House, and administration.

In order for Obama to take the United States forward for the next 4 years, he needs to keep Republicans out of the White House so they don't take us further back. What part of that plan doesn't Republicans understand? After all Obama did win a Nobel Peace Prize for that very accomplishment when winning the White House in the first place!

As far as Biden's concerned the Republicans are praying Joe gaffes bad enough to push the Republican campaign into the running because that is all their game plan has besides tons of money from Citizens United. And even the money isn't enough.

Umm....putting "my party" into power isn't a real plan to fix the economy - it's just more partisan politics.

I agree Romney's plan is "sketchy", but it has more detail than Obama's. All I hear from Obama is "tax the rich" - that's not a real plan, that's just a talking point.

All are Barack Obama words..... brave Americans DIED & Mr Obama thinks they were "not optimal"

You left out the context where Jon Stewart asked if the security at the consulate was not "optimal." Obama was just pointing out that any situation in which Americans die can be described as not optimal.

...then why were so many of them lined up behind Newt just a few months ago? His indiscretions were 10x as bad as Clinton's, and they were occurring at the same time he was pointing the finger!

Shawn: You are correct - it was "not optimal". It was "tragic". It was a "terrorist action". It was "an attack". It was "appalling". It was "disastrous". It was "deplorable". It was "intolerable". It was "grievous". It was "distressing". It was "outrageous". It was "upsetting". And I can go on and on. But Obama chose the word "optimal"?

When asked by a comedian if the security was not "optimal" is Obama not smart enough to use a word that is more relevant? Obama should have said "the word to use is not 'not optimal' - this terrorist attack was appalling and deplorable. We will not rest until these terrorist are found and punished for their involvement". THAT would have been presidential.

It amazes me how many speak of Obama's "intelligence" but all I see is an incompetent person who can't put a rational sentence together without a teleprompter. "Not optimal"?? Are you KIDDING me?? THAT is all this incompetent president can reply to a COMEDIAN??

It will be SO NICE when we get respect back to the office of president and vice-president when Romney and Ryan assume office in January. We have lost the last 4 years with this incompetent and pathetic president. But this nightmare will be over in just a few weeks when Romney/Ryan win this election...............

"Today's over-the-top rhetoric by Vice President Biden is disappointing, but not all that surprising," Buck wrote. "In the absence of a vision or a plan to move the country forward, the Vice President is left only with ugly political attacks beneath the dignity of the office he occupies."

While this can generally be characterized as Joe just being Joe, say what you want about Obama but it's frightening to think that a total clown like Biden is a heartbeat away from the presidency.

You CONTINUE to say Clinton's issues were his getting a "Lewinsky" and comparing that to Newt getting a divorce. But what you DON'T understand is I don't give a tiny rat's behind if Clinton got a "Lewinsky". Lord knows that wife of his won't so if that is what he wants then have a good time. I know it's exhausting to read really long documents, but the actual budget proposal is on the Office of Management and Budget website.

I hope it explains why a lot of people are confused why some people think the President doesn't have details when, in fact, there are 250 odd pages just on cuts to spending.

Not to mention the proposal would cut the 10-year deficit by about $5.2 trillion... basically halving it and bringing it to 2.8% of GDP by 2022.

On the economy front, the administration has said it will continue to pursue the AJA (American Jobs Act), cut taxes for small businesses seeking to expand (which includes an exemption on capital gains), provide additional funding for SBIDC, grant tax credits for employers to provide healthcare and raise wages, and a lot of infrastructure proposals.

In any case, there's no dearth of details in the President's plan for the next four years.

He didn't choose that word. He was asked, directly, if the security wasn't optimal. Is he supposed to be some sort of thesaurus?

He gave a frank interview directed to his base. The Presidency would grow tiring if the officeholder waxed poetic about every issue all the time. That's not presidential, levelling with the public is.

Not only did Chuckles eduacate his audience on our battles in Iran...he said he knows people who have fought there and even some families who have lost family members there.

But we need to let his repeatedly erroneous message slide...there's a lot fewer letters in "Iran" than there are in "Afghanistan"...so it's easier for someone like Biden to both spell and remember.

Just for giggles, could you tell us which of the two options you prefer below:

[a] A President very faithful to his wife, but leaves the country in two lost wars, a deep economic crisis and a 1.4 trillion deficit that it took Obama four years to get under a trillion.

[b] A President who is a slimeball and lies about his personal affairs, even under oath, but leaves the country with a surplus, the greatest peacetime economic expansion the country has ever known, a really vibrant and strong economy, and peace with the rest of the world.

Trying to capitalize on a name to push a book is cheap. Maybe referring to Paul Ryan as Eddie Munster may seem cheap to some but it's who he reminds me of. Eddie Munster after he grew up.

    @ ProBusiness

If you are so outraged that Clinton lied under oath about a sex act that hurt no one but his family why are you not more upset that Bush lied in front of congress to draw us into a war that hurt many families? It does not make any sense that you would be so against a lie from one without being equally upset about a lie from another unless it's strictly politics and you feel it's alright for someone in your party to lie.

Now as for the reason Clinton was impeached...politics...plain and simply...politics. Why did the Republicans spend so much of the taxpayers money on Whitewater when they knew there was nothing there? Politics. Why did they expand the investigation outside of Whitewater? Politics. I just wish they had went after G W Bush and Cheney with the same aggression as they did after Clinton and see how they would have fared. We'll never know but I do know that was the time I changed my political preference and I've despised what the Republicans have done to this country with their evil greed of money and war.

Shawn: It seems like the last 4 years all I ever hear from the president and virtually every entry on forums (like yours) are excuses excuses excuses excuses excuses and excuses. And this president blames everything from ATM's to Sasquatch for his ongoing and daily failures. What he says - there are excuses. What he does - there are excuses. Why the economy is stagnant - more excuses. Unemployment too high - somebody else's fault. And you feed into that excuse mentality. And, quite frankly, I am tired of it.

Time to get a president in the White House that will actually take responsibility for what he has done (or not done). Obama is useless and "leading from behind" is not a strategy. Blaming others for failures is not presidential. THAT is why we need Romney and Ryan elected in just a few weeks. So we can bring dignity and responsibility BACK to the White House.

Or bring up "weapons of mass destruction". But you have one tiny problem with that argument - Bush didn't lie. There has been NO evidence Bush lied. He relayed intelligence information and sometimes the intelligence information is wrong. THAT is not a lie - that is an error in the intelligence. And that is why most reputable historians rate him in our top ten presidents. But when your party has the likes of George W. Bush, Calvin Coolidge, Warren Harding, and Richard Nixon (an accomplished liar, a serial burglar, with admissions on tape about the Brookings Institute burglary and a recent televised statement by Jeb Magruder that Nixon in fact ORDERED the Watergate burglaries, and a loyal friend of his chief burglar and blackmailer, E. While the NRA keeps asking for support money, they seem to forget that years back their candidate did this..

In July 2004, then-Governor Romney signed legislation into law that made Massachusetts' assault weapons ban permanent and not reliant on a federal ban that expired at the end of 2004. The state issued a press release at the time, in which Romney described assault weapons as "instruments of destruction with the sole purpose of hunting down and killing people."

I'm starting to wonder did Romney buy the NRA support? Or is the NRA donating to his campaign? I keep getting requests to donate to the NRA for support and this is who they want me to back? Either way I'm screwed. The more I think about it, I'm believing the NRA simply wants funding for their execs million dollar plus salaries and benefits.

The Republicans told us how silly we were for daring to connect these things to actual violence - that it was perfectly ok and fine to use that kind of phrase in thier rhetoric.....

Yet here they are complaining and coming out of the woodwork screaming how wrong it is when a candidate utters a gun linked phrase ONCE....

What we hear are screams of 'WE REPUBLICANS ARE HYPOCRITES' loudly and clearly from thier own mouths instead of what they intended - which is to somehow declare that the VP was inappropriate.

For the life of me, I cannot fathom this blind worship of President Obama. It is surreal in that no one can really say what exactly he has done in the past four years that merits a second term. If he can fix the economy and put people back to work, why hasn't he? This Churchill quote sums up his philosophy and his first and hopefully, only term, "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy. Its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." The intent seems to be pulling down the top instead of raising up the bottom. It simply does not work. Never has, never will. If we have no expectations for those in poverty, there is nothing to which to rise. We are denying people real hope by giving them just enough to keep them dependent.

It is just so simple for folks the throw the 'bigot' dart at someone...takes no intellect or effort at all in the attempt to improve what others might think about a person.

For those that do this...it does not matter who you are or what you do...they feel that if they label you a racist for whatever reason they choose, that makes you a racist.

Four dead Americans in Benghazi, Libya! In a firefight, that lasted seven hours! After three calls for help, no one from the US Command Authority. Ordered a QRF, from Italy to come to Benghazi to save American lives. And yet two US Drones were circling. The US Consulate for most of the firefight! Obama, release those, drone tapes too the American people! Why are you covering up the death's of four brave Americans. We the people deserve the truth! Not lies.

Yep Feisty - it's probably a coincident that the huge swing in the polls really got going after Joe's tremendous victory.

You are right about the outrage - it really ought to be focused on the fact that we spend over $1T on Welfare.

That's damn near 1/2 of all the money they take in.

They are going to need a lot more of your all's 'fair share' so lean forward a little more people.

Can we have an article about Romney's false claim on creating 12 million jobs in 4 years based on his 5 point plan? It's been shown to be a bunch of hooey and in one case the study his campaign points to is based TEN years out.

Where was Mitt's respect for the dignity of the office of the President of the United States during the debate? Where was that respect when Mitt said no one had ever asked him to show his birth certificate?

Sarah Palin thought it was perfectly OK to put targets on Congressional districts, including that of Gabby Giffords.

Feisty--puhleeze is right. I don't know if I had much respect left for the GOP but if I did it is gone.

And while I'm on a rant, I'm tired of hearing this "no second term agenda" BS. The President has listed many things he wants to do when he mentions unfinished business, including tax reform, education reform, energy development and manufacturing initiatives.

unfinished business he started in 09. But since you want to hold him to unfinished business he also said this would be a one term prop if he didnt get this turned around. Turned around is subjective but as far as i see its not good enough. So i will help make him one term.

Why does it take an act of God or a subpoena to get documents from this administration?

Issa is accusing the HHS of stringing his department along for months in their request for documents about an $8 billion program that pays bonuses to Medicare Advantage plans.

Issa claims the bonus program is being used to mask the first round of Medicare Advantage cuts in connection with the health care overhaul -- in order to win favor with seniors.

"It's an unbelievable abuse of power," he said Thursday. Issa said the program basically funds "what ObamaCare took away."

The program in question is called a "demonstration" project. But Issa complains the project is far more sweeping than a run-of-the-mill test program, and conveniently lasts until 2014.

"This is larger than every test they've ever done at HHS combined," Issa said.

Is this the norm in Washington?

Feisty -- They ran with the chains metaphor, claiming it was meant literally. They'll do the same with this one. They're not looking for answers, they're just trying to divide people.

Both metaphors, in my opinion, were illustrative and appropriate. Now, Vermillion (#1.37) on the other hand, that's inappropriate; it's not a metaphor, it's verbalizing the wish for an actual act.

Obama boot lickers are pitiable. Unless you're getting a government contract, belong to a union, or are living on an entitlement, NONE of his policies are going to help you. No wonder you people jump on the 47% remark.

Tell me this, you whinebags. Why should a middle class couple who have chosen to delay having children - because they are being responsible (the trait that is never taught by the "Tax-em till they drop" democrats) pay extra taxes to support the tax refunds of the couple making $19,000 with 4 kids at home living on foodstamps, Medicaid and public housing? That is absolutely taking from those who are working and being responsible giving to those who are irresponsible, do not take care of their own, and have not earned it. "Earned" income credit is not only a misnomer, it is theft.

We need a flat tax. And when you brilliant people gripe about the 14% that Romney paid in taxes, remember it is on capital gains. He's already paid taxes on the money once.

gdale6 - if you cannot even copy and paste a link, why in the world would anybody anywhere take your advice on money? You actually talk about "Run up the deficit?" with the current president in office. No wonder Obama got elected. You have chosen to ignore obvious facts about the deficit and what you say would be a joke - except you're really serious. The same president that PROMISED to cut the deficit in half HAS (not may; or might, but HAD) more than doubled it. Oh, it would be hilarious to someone outside the country. In fact, we are.

You are the constituency that voted in this completely inept man.

How "respectfully" has Mr. Romney been treated by his political opponents, the media, and people out there on sites like this one ???

I started reading about his background during the primaries...I don't know much about the Mormon religion, but if it produces people who have selflessly helped others as much as Mr. Romney has in his life...I guess I'd wish we had a lot more Mormons in this world. And Mormons are taught that it's not proper to talk about the good things they might do for others...helping someone is supposed to be it's own reward, rather than an expected pat on the back for one's effort.

True story - I recently gave an old car of mine to my secretary who is black, in fact she is alos [now] a lesbian]. It's for her great grandson, who just got a job. [She's only mid fifties, but already has a 18 year old grandson].

Anyhoo I said It's $1000, or you can promise to vote for Mitt, your choice.

See if you can guess which option she choose?

And just so we are all on the same page - the car is worth about $2,500, so she was already getting a heap o' Spanky love.

Until the President offered to waive the rule (and pay for any lawsuit using our tax dollars), Defense Contractors were required to tell employees they may lose their jobs due to the President's and government polices.

The Employer who advised his employees the President's re-election and subsequent policies may endanger their employment was just doing what the unions require the Defense companies to do.

Since I don't claim to be a lawyer or anything, I checked uslegal.com for the definition of "relevant" and it says:

"Relevant means having some reasonable connection with something. When used in the context of a evidence law, it refers to the evidence's tendency to prove or disprove a matter of fact that is related to an issue in dispute in the case. A common basis for an objection to testimony or physical evidence is that it is
                            "irrelevant."

Of course, for the comment about Spanky's secretary's race and sexual orientation to be relevant to the case in point, I'm guessing there'd have to be a point in the first place, right?

What's that you say? "Objection sustained"? Why thank you, Your Honor.....

Clinton Disbarred From Supreme Court By DAVID STOUT Published: October 1, 2001

The Supreme Court said today that a lawyer who was disciplined in his home state of Arkansas cannot practice law before the High Court.

The action was totally unremarkable, except that the lawyer in question is former President Bill Clinton. The justices' action, announced on the first day of the court's new term, followed Mr. Clinton's acceptance earlier this year of a five-year suspension of his law license in Arkansas and his payment of a $25,000 fine to the Arkansas Bar Association.

The high court's rules call for it to suspend a lawyer who has been disbarred or suspended by a lower court from practicing before the United States Supreme Court. The rules also give the lawyer 40 days to respond to final disbarment from the high court.

No further punishment is involved but, since it is an honor for a lawyer to be admitted to practice before the high court, losing that privilege could be seen as an embarrassment, especially for a former president.

Yup, suspended in Arkansas........therefore, the SC.......

                            So what?

Despite that fact that they were being cheered on by the 1%. Cheering for the very people they are protesting against. The m.o. of the liberal democrat.

The embellished description of your secretary had a tinge of contempt; implying this woman, by accepting your bribe, confirmed she is immoral. You managed to take a shot at "over breeding blacks", "gays" and "takers" in one short anecdote. I don't think you are aware of it, but your "charity" story was actually mean spirited and racist.

THANK YOU! You have elequently stated my frustrations and disappointment with the Republicons. I have come to the conclusion the truth is they really do NOT want an "honest argument" or intelligent, rational debate

All they want is to win. That means all they want is Obama to lose--(e.g. ABO -- "anyone but Obama" etc.) Never mind what the American people want and/or need. Nobama. The end justifies the means.

Therefore we will never have any honest argument or intelligent rational discourse. They have forgotten the meaning of the words "compromise" "bipartisanship" and "cooperation."

                            And that just sucks.

The Vice-presidential nominees are expected to lead with the sharper contrasts in their comments and Joe zinged Ryan and company, fo shizzle.

If Obama and Biden gave a televised statement on all networks and cable shows alike, during primetime, saying in unison that "Romney is a peach of a guy, who walks in sunshine, and Ryan is worth his weight in chocolate covered kisses," the GOP would still find something in it to rebuke after the fact.

I almost wish Obama/Biden would come out and say that everyone should vote for the other guys, because, due to the fact that the right doesn't pay any attention to message or content, they would immediately come out, as a group, railing against it, before realizing that they should, you know, really be for it.

But not to worry, because they've devised a way to cover that contingency as well. They simply release a statement later on saying that they were actually for it all along, even when they were against it.

I wish I was kidding, but actually this method of attack, deny, attack, deny, and then when all else fails, release a statement in opposition to your own words is actually how Romney/Ryan are running their current campaign.

                            Obama/Biden

All politicians make statements that the other side pulls out of context and twists around. Sometimes, even if it's only a politician's campaign worker that says something, the other side will pull it out of context, twist it around, and start repeating it endlessly.

It's juvenile and insulting to the intelligent voter. Unfortunately, they have to play to the unintelligent voter too, so the practice probably won't go away.

You are probably right, Kannin, but that was before. The extreme right has drawn a definitive line in the sand now though, by taking this campaign to new extremes of distortion, to the point where your statement no longer even applies. Words have been taken out of context and twisted around, true, and by both sides. But what is telling here is that we live in an age of technology that allows for instant information, meaning that the newspaper, and other venues that took the time to verify before print, are going the way of the typewriter, and will soon be extinct. What has arisen in its place has the ability to be both great, and the downfall of our society.

What I mean by this is that "news" has become interchangeable with opinion, and too many are lured into misconceptions by mistaking one for the other, and thereby basing their decisions on falsehoods. And yes, I am referring, in part, to FOX "news" as we'll as O'Reilly, Limbaugh, Hannity, Coulter, among others. What lies at the root of all this madness is that they've created a propaganda machine that is immense and unchecked, endlessly funded by Murdoch, the Koch brothers, and others of their ilk. They spew the lies, the distortion, and keep repeating it 24 hours a day because they know if it's repeated loud and long enough some will eventually just accept it as fact.

That type of mistortion is dangerous. It's what you do when you have no other way to win. And it leads, as we've seen in this election to voter suppression, birthers, and Salem witch hunt type of ambiguous assersions using slurs like: Obama isn't American enough. He's secretly working with the Muslim brotherhood. These asinine attacks on our President's integrity should never have seen the light of day, because there is nothing beyond unfounded hate to back them up, and yet four years later, you still find them, not only here on this forum but elsewhere. Opinion parading as truth has got to stop, Republican's!

As to your 'campaign worker' statement, as you didn't elaborate, I'm going to guess that you are talking about the Brown/Warren race in Massachusetts. There Brown has been attacking Warren's claims of her Native American ancestry. In protest, Brown's own campaign workers showed up at one of Warren's rally's and proceeded to make war whoops and Tomahawk chops with their hands. Sorry, but I disagree, and I do blame Brown equally for that disgrace, if not more. Brown started the distortion, yes, and then his campaigner's repeated it. You've actually proven my point here. That's how the madness grows. This type of misconception if not checked, breeds not only contempt, but outright hatred. It spreads like a disease. You could be part of the cure, if you'd just open your eyes.

@gizalynn As to your 'campaign worker' statement, as you didn't elaborate.

Allow me to elaborate. Romney's communications director Eric Fehrnstrom referred to the shift from a primary campaign to a presidential campaign by saying "I think you hit a reset button for the fall campaign. Everything changes. It's almost like an Etch-A-Sketch" Of course, Romney's opponents immediately pretended the remark had some significance.

And, from the article above, we have Biden saying "Well folks, I don't think they were just sketchy," he declared. "I think they were etch-a-sketchy!"

Thank you Kannin, for elaborating on your original post. And I certainly see how you might have reached that conclusion. However, I interpret it diffently, as you might of guessed. As Communication's Director for Romney's campaign, one would have to assume that communications is probably Rehmstrom's area of expertise. Certainly he is no stranger to the interview format. The bottom line being that they basically boil down to one factor: the sound bite.

He went into this with both eyes wide open, knowing full well that Romney, even then, was openly being criticized, by the left and even by members of his own party for continually switching sides on virtually every position. And when that side wasn't working to his benefit, he would simply switch again. And I hate to tell you this, but the negativity on this attribute didn't start with this election, or even 2008's. It can be traced back in origin to his bid for Governor of MA in 2002, and in his race against Ted Kennedy as well. That's where 'flip-flop' Romney was born, and I don't see anyone here seriously debating that point.

I would argue then that with this highly documented flaw, already assigned his candidate going in, that Rehmstrom, especially given his expertise, should have had the good sense to steer clear of any descriptive definer that remotely hints at Romney's inability to take a side and stick with it. This simply isn't an example of the other side taking something out of context and then applying their own meaning, because all it did was assign a name to a fully verifiable and established characteristic. It was just bad luck that it was a moniker that Rehmstrom's picked out himself.

Should Biden not have made the 'sketchy' comment? Perhaps. But in Romney's case, the dye was already cast, well before Rehmsrom's interview. Sadly it all goes hand in hand with what I was alluding to earlier. The far extremist right has bastardized this election to such a degree of open contempt and beyond, that it simply boggles the mind. There is no 'too low' anymore. And even more outrageous, not only have the Republican's/TeaPartier's turned this election into a circus, by using lies and deception, they also expect the Left to fall in line behind them like obedient lemmings. They seem to think that they can lie, invent, distort, besmirch, create diversions away from the real matters at hand, and at the same time hold us to a set of rules that they, as a party, refuse to follow.

I am utterly amazed every time the right starts talking about Obama//Biden disrespecting Romney/Ryan in the debates. Did you see how many times he interrupted our candidate, they shout in cartoonish exaggerated fury. The nerve of him daring to contradict our leader, why he's a bully! It's unfair! The media is against us! The polls are tampered with! Except of course when the numbers favor them. Do you see the pattern here?

If I have any issue with my candidates, it's that they've allowed this travesty of rhetoric and lies to go on as long as it has. I know the Republican's fully expected Democrat's, and in turn, Obama/Biden to simply lay down and let you buy, cheat, and steal your way into the White House, but it just isn't going to happen. And if that means Obama/Biden getting in their face, and dismantling every one of the right's made up facts and figures, as they happen, so that all American's are clued in, then so be it. Meanwhile we'll just bide our time until Obama's reelection, debunking every single untruth that you see fit to throw our way.

And with the same scrutiny that you view Fox news, why do you not apply that to NBC? NBC is the worst station for reporting absolutely nothing negative about Obama? There is only one token conservative - Morning Joe - and he isn't even credible.

Fox has opposing views for every topic. There are liberals who are regulars on Fox news. My husband watches Fox; I watch NBC. Bob Beckel; Juan Williams; Alan Colms; and others regularly contribute on Fox. Rachel Maddow or Chris "Tingle up the leg" Matthews: When have you ever seen a conservative viewpoint on either of their shows - a credible conservative?

BTW - you don't want to debunk any untruths. If you did so, there would be absolutely nothing from which Obama could cling to for any evidence of anything "Forward". And you sure as heck don't want to look backward.

FOX sets itself up for ridicule for its less than truthful broadcasts by purposely adding to its name the misnomer of "news." That choice right there makes it a deliberate attempt to mislead its viewing public. By the way, you only assume that I don't apply this same high standard of truthfulness to other networks and affiliates. You are wrong. In fact, it is only by contrasting and comparing the two at length that I have discovered that FOX is indeed the worst of the worst.

I've only been posting here for a week or so, but I've been reading the comments for a very long time. There are so many dedicated Democrat's on this forum, including yourself, doing everything we can to support our wonderful President in his bid for reelection.

A man like Romney, bought and paid for by big money corporations and outside interests, must never be allowed to win. I didn't think it possible to beat George W. Bush in the unqualified department, but Romney has certainly risen to the occasion.

Thank you again for the warm welcome. It feels great to be surrounded by so many other loyal and dedicated Democrat's!

The Plutocrats have plenty of 'Unemployment Bullets' for their workers if they vote for President Obama. Many CEO's are threatening their workers, and it was ordered by the GOP/RNC "Speculator and Chief." In June of this year the GOP/RNC "Outsourcer and Chief." Made it clear that the CEO's need to advise/warn their workers that voting for President Obama will cost you your jobs. This is another form of voter suppression!

What's worse is that the corporation I work for has just begun to introduce our Health Plan for next year, which is built around Obamacare requirements.

Looks like Tax the Fat is a real deal under Obamacare.

Also the FSA portion has been reduced by $1500 which effectively amounts to a tax increase since the FSA is pretax dollars.

So you believe that because Biden is running for office he should be held to a higher standard than the son of a man who is also running for office? Based on this reasoning then, you would probably take no offense at the comments of yet another son of a man running for office.

At a recent brunch hosted by the Kenosha County Republican Party, Jason Thompson, son of Republican Tommy Thompson, former govenor of Wisconsin was caught on camera saying:

"We have the opportunity to send President Obama back to Chicago – or Kenya." The comment drew laughs from the crowd, with one woman joking, "We are taking donations for that Kenya trip."

Personally, I find it utterly appalling.

Good Old Joe Biden, the gift that just keeps giving. Today in Las Vegas, NV., Biden asks his audience "How many of you know someone who served in Iraq and Iran"?. Does this guy even know where he is at or what day it is? Gaffe after Gaffe no wonder no one including the left takes this guy serious.

What should be taken seriously is the "Crazy Clown Comment" of the GOP/RNC "Speculator and Chief's" son. "Tag The Rag" stated that he wanted to take a 'swing' at the President Of The United States. This a direct verbal treat to injure the President Of The United States. This is not only violent, rude, and very treasonous. That is fact! What would little "Mentally Ill Tag" do if he had a gun and some bullets? It sounds like Tag has some issues with bullying, and acting like a 'fool.' No President should ever be threatened with any method of violence. I do not care what Poltical Party they represent. NO WAY should any President now or in the futre should be threatened. Most violent individuals start out with thought out threats, and they usually end up using violence. That is fact! By individuals like "Tag The Rag" who has deep 'emotional' issues. Get help fool!

You are a fool and should check your own emotional issues. No violence, not rude and certainly not treason. For God sake, read or watch the interview you idiot. He was responding to a question from the interviewer as to how he felt when Obama was attacking his father during the debate.

Oh really, why? This is why when a citizen put his hand on Cheney's shoulder - he was immediately arrested - and carted off - he made no verbal threats - yet a man who is 42 years of age and just a citizen can hurl threats at a sitting president and it's OKAY

                              No it's not Okay!

What good are young guns without bullets? For someone who is so in favor of NRA and guns there really is no room for criticism. Fake indignation as usual.

After the debate, the question of "Do want a President or a Boss?" was raised. Personally, I prefer to keep our current president as he has never acted like a boss and has been a damn good president when the obstructionists in congress do their job of working for the good of the country instead of a personal vendetta against the sitting president.

I have noticed over the years that bosses are like diapers... 1. Always on your a$$. 2. Usually full of crap. 3. Need to be changed!!!

President Obama has always acted very presidential and Mr. Romney has always acted like a self-centered crappy boss that you couldn't wait to tell where to go and what to do with himself. (Re: Clint Eastwood loses chat with chair).
