Post-debate, Romney focuses on economy; no mention of Libya

After Tuesday's fiery presidential debate, the heated arguments between GOP candidate Mitt Romney and President Barack Obama showed no signs of cooling on the stump as they tried to cast each other as economic threats to voters in Ohio, Iowa and Virginia. NBC's Peter Alexander reports.

LEESBURG, Va. – In two appearances Wednesday in the critical battleground state of Virginia, Mitt Romney focused on what he called the president's lack of a second term agenda, while avoiding Libya, a major flashpoint from Tuesday night's debate.

"I think it’s interesting that the president still doesn’t have an agenda for a second term. Don’t you think that it’s time for him to finally put together a vision of what he’d do in the next four years if he were elected?" Romney said in Chesapeake, Va. on Wednesday afternoon.

At an evening event in Northern Virginia, Romney continued to work that theme, occasionally revisiting moments from the debate – as President Barack Obama did on the stump after the first debate – with snappier retorts.

"I just have to mention, I remember last night the president also saying about energy," Romney recalled before some 8,000 supporters Wednesday night. "He said, you know, we built pipelines that would go around the earth, and I thought, ‘It's just the one that comes from Canada with the oil is the one that we want, you see?’ And that's the one I'm going to get."

Libya went unmentioned in either appearance on Wednesday.

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney speaks during a campaign event in front of a barn at Ida Lee Park in Leesburg, Va. on Wednesday.

The timeline of the attacks and the Obama administration’s response seemed to trip Romney during the debate.

Conservatives had previously said the attacks show the White House’s weakness in terms of foreign policy, and both campaigns spent much of Tuesday night's spin room session with reporters re-litigating the finer points of the administration's declaration of the attack as an act of terror.

"With 20 days left, today was a good day to hammer home the contrast between a candidate who has a plan to fix the economy in Governor Romney and a candidate who doesn't have a record to run on or a plan for the future, that being President Obama," Romney senior adviser Kevin Madden said when asked why Romney didn't talk about Libya Wednesday. "Libya is still an issue with many voters, particularly given the conflicting statements from the president and his administration about the nature of the attack. The American people still have unanswered questions."

Obama campaign spokesperson Jen Psaki offered a different view while discussing the debate with reporters aboard Air Force One today, suggesting that Obama's command of the Libya questions in Tuesday's debate might have shut down conversation on the issue -- for now.

"Our view is that the president – the back-and-forth on Libya last night was one of the best moments for the president, one of the best moments in recent debate history," Psaki said. "And that's because the president made clear that being commander-in-chief is about being a leader. It’s not about political gamesmanship."

In the final push in the 2012 presidential election, candidates Mitt Romney and Barack Obama make their last appeals to voters.

With a foreign policy debate coming Monday, Romney did make a point of mentioning other global issues at his second stop Wednesday, highlighting the importance of keeping America's military strong and ticking off a handful of world trouble spots he rarely mentions in a typical stump speech.

"I look around the world at North Korea, with its nuclear capability and a very strange dictator. I look at what’s happening throughout the Middle East and Pakistan," Romney said. "I look around North Africa now, with north Mali having been taken by an al-Qaida affiliate, and I recognize the world continues to be dangerous, and the decisions we make now about our military will determine our ability to defend ourselves in the future."

You know what.......I have a Job, in fact I have two jobs, my kids have good jobs, my grandchildren are in college, and all but one of them has a job, and the only reason he doesn't have a job is that he a starter on on one of the big college's Football Team and he doesn't have time, because all he does is Study, Practice, Eat and Sleep.

Everybody I know is working. Our Company had 57 high paying Office Jobs available we just filled 3 of them. We have never in the History of this Company of 300 Employee's laid anyone off. In fact we just did a 1.5 Million Dollar Renovation to have more space for more Employees.

I see the Malls and Stores full everyday, and I see help wanted adds & signs all over the place. I came to the conclusion along time ago that people are just not trained nor do they have the Skills for the jobs that are available. This is why a lot of people have dropped out of the work force, they are smart, they are going back to school because they know that Technology has changed the Game.

There was a time that you could walk right out of High School and get a decent paying job at P&G, GE, or Ford. Those days are over, you need New Skills.

Let's face it in all Races and Families there are People that just can't keep a Job and don't want one.

Face it. The whole country KNOWS Obama lied. Doesn't matter what some liberal leaning moderator who wants Obama to win with spin says. Wonder if Moochelle noticed how much she was drooling over Barry? The public knows the truth. The truth is already out there and no manner of spin can change the fact that Obama has MORE blood of innocent American heroes on his hands. He may have wanted the ambassador gone. Plain and simple. And guess what, employers telling their employees that their jobs may be in jeopardy if Obama gets four more is true. Telling your employees how the outtcome of an election will impact their jobs is called being honest. Obama created this condition and dynamic of fear. He is the one waging the class warfare and this is how entrepreneurs fight back. Get a grip libs if you think for a second that you can win a class war. The class you are fighting will leave and take their jobs, their money, and their spirit out of the country. You lose with the loser Obama. He cannot win and he knows it. Enterpreneurs and employers can fire without cause anyone who supports Obama openly. Can't tell them how to vote but you can read what the bumper sticker says on thier car. You can look for reasons to fire them. Most right to work states allow you fire for no reason at all. Hire Republican. Fire Democrats. Boycott Union Goods and Services. Bring them to their knees. The backlash begins.

It's a lot to read. But if you are a builder/contractor you just might want to take the time.

        F.Y.I. Builders/Contractors: Reports are coming
out that the housing market is making a comeback. This is an illusion to try
and help stabilize the industry. How do I know this? What makes me such an
expert? Until 3 years ago new home
construction was my income for more than 28 years. Due to the unemployment of
many families and this continuous poor economy resulting in higher prices
across the board, I haven’t built a home since. Trying to make an income for my
family I perform Fannie Mae (FNMA) and Housing of Urban Development (HUD)
property inspection reports. Meaning the only work I have is from others loss
of their homes “Foreclosures”. FNMA and HUD, I’m sure you know are both govt.
        housing institutes. Both of these
programs are stock piling the foreclosures. Meaning, they have not been
processing the foreclosed homes, trying to stabilize the market. It’s an
illusion they are doing. I have been notified directly that by the end of
January 2013 I will be receiving at least 2.5 times the amount of foreclosure
inspections in my state alone. Recall back around Feb. 2012 when announced that housing had slowed down again? Reason, stock piles of foreclosed homes from back in 2010 were processed and
released. How do I know? I processed the inspections. If the govt. allowed the foreclosures
to be processed , all of 2011 and 2012 in reality time, this would devastate the
market in such a way that it would take several years to recover from just the
housing, not to mention what would happen to the other industries and more job
loss. This is NOTICE to Builders/Contractors and even buyers, DO NOT go out on
a limb to build or buy homes at this time unless you just have so much money
stored up that you can afford to gamble and wait several years for return and
know without doubt you will have your job, and be able to live on what you
already have for a long time. When the processing starts again it’s going to
drop faster than before. I’m talking non processed homes from back in late 2010
to current. I’m telling you this so you
won’t get caught up in the avalanche of when this illusion is reveled. This really ticks me off that they are
playing a political numbers game with our families. Just some FYI for my fellow
        builders/contractors and American working families.

Right wing is just too funny.

Everytime factual information contradicts their political agenda, it's "made up".

But not so the other way.

"After the clip ended, Matthews seemed appalled. “I don’t think [Romney] understands the Constitution of the United States,” Matthews said. “He’s the president of the United States. You don’t say, ‘You’ll get your chance.’”

It simply boggles the mind that they were questioning what the President said when what the President said is easily checked thru the transcript. These Republican scumbags were so convinced there was some sort of coverup and were so hungry to use American deaths for political points that they didnt even have the facts correct. This is how the Romney Admin would do business. As the President said weeks ago" Mr Romney shoots first and aims later". Im sorry but this fool is the best the GOP had to offer? So if there was no "cover up", it was right to ignore requests to for more security in a country that has been de-stabilized as a result of your actions?

I understand that Romneys son Tagg would like to take a swing at President Obama. There are 2 reason that he doesn't take that swing. 1st reason being, is that he is like his dad the draft dodger, the whole family is a bunch of cowards. He can only swing with his big mouth, cause it seems that is the only thing in their family that works. 2nd reason is, President would knock him on his little pampered A$$, before he could get off his little sissy A$$ punch. I'd give a 3rd reason, good sense not to take that punch, but as we know the family doesn't have good sense. Tagg wants to blame President Obama for making his dad look like a Village Idiot, but if you view that debate again, you will see that the only thing the President did was set Liar Romney up for his own execution and Liar Romney fell for it. Liar Romney couldn't keep him mouth shut long enough to think about what the president was doing, kind of like Liar Romney not thinking about foreign policy, when he jumped the gun on Lybia. Also their family is disrespectful to everyone that isn't in their tax bracket. He is know to feed to the 1%ers when he needs their money for whatever reason, campaigning, outsourcing etc...

Romneys mouth and the ability not to control it, is one of the many reasons why we can't afford to have him as our POTUS. He DOES NOT think before he speaks, and that his a bad combination with his actual INability to run this counrty. He is dangerous for not only our country, but for the whole world. I voted on tuesday, I didn't have to watch the last debate, because I know the true Romney, he has no morals, class, no spine and no family values, he is a bully and he abused his dog. I hate a LIAR and he is definately one. He will tell you anythig to get your vote, then flip flop once he has that vote. I just can't trust him. You shouldn't either.

“Just trust me, I know what to do”, that is what Romney asks and what he offers. That is a whole lot to ask and actually very risky; of course, he depends on faulting Obama for everything just to get people receptive. However Obama has accomplished quite a lot, which is obvious when you put the criticism aside and look at reality. He hasn’t accomplished all we want but then the Republicans have done absolutely nothing and even worse, in just stubbornly blocking and arrogantly faulting all efforts while putting their political ambitions above all else, regardless of the costs to the people. We know where Obama wants to go and what he wants to do but what can we know about Romney?

Romney’s history, his claim for expertise and his statements all address the financial as his area of credit, so what do we know about him there? At Bain he provided investors with good returns as he cut jobs, used China connections and exploited company assets; actually hurting far more people than he helped. On the personal side we know he is quite wealthy from inherited money, investments and Bain and that he succeeded in using tax loop holes and advantages to pay very low taxes, far lower than most would expect (you have to wonder if he intends to protect those tax loop holes and advantages). As his main offering he declares he is going to cut taxes for everyone and be financially responsible if elected, but what does that mean?

He says 47% are “freeloaders” and don’t pay taxes, so he isn’t going to do anything for 47% of the people, how about the rest? He claims he will cut taxes by 20% across the board and that will mean a little to most but then he says he is going to close loop holes and cut deductions but won’t say which - mortgage interest? real estate taxes? medical? what? He says he wants all people to be sharing in the burden and you have to wonder if the 47% should worry. He says he will give people better returns on investments and proposes to cut dividend, capital gains, estate, gift, ,, taxes, but while those have real meaning for the very wealthy, 90% would get little or no benefit there and really only the very top would significantly gain. All of this is intended to go on top of the Bush Tax Cuts, which are already heavily weighted, like these, to favor the very wealthy.

He talks about balancing the budget and proposes cutting programs that he would determine aren’t needed or aren’t doing the job ... but again he won’t say which and while the very wealthy aren’t personally concerned about most government programs, they do mean a whole lot to many others. When Mr. Romney says he “knows what to do”, it once again is to cater to the very wealthy, the 1%, and to con the people, the 99%. His, like Ryan’s, strong supporters are “the money” and they demand their satisfaction as return for their money, power and influence given. Romney-Ryan offer the better than 90% little other than propaganda, as Romney-Ryan are completely committed, again as “puppets”, to serve ‘the money”. To return to “more of the same”, Bush-Cheney style, can only result in “more of the same” which has already cost the country and the majority greatly.

If you repugs would quit watching Fox Lies and listening to Rush LimpDICK, you would hear the truth. Tagg did actually say he would like to take a swing at President Obama, becase he said the President called his dad a liar, guess the truth really does hurt. I wish he would, then he would find out he is over matched by President Obama, even without the secret service. Admit it, the whole Romney family is disrespectful, liars, rude and most definately out of touch. The reason Romney got showed up in the last debate about Libya, was because he got his info from Fox Lies and Rush LimpDICK, conservative news is just that and nothing else. They say to the conservatives what they want to hear, which is most of the time not true.

Bush never said "Mission accomplished". That was just a sign thanking the crew of an aircraft carrier for accomplishing the mission that they were sent there to perform.

There will be no middle class or upper middle class or rich. We will all be poor. Poor and at the mercy of government for everything.

Europe did this and look at them. It's failing. It's right here in your face and still you think this is a good idea?

You can all laugh about Big Bird but the fact is there are hundreds of subsidized programs out there just like public broadcasting that our tax dollars are paying for and need to go. 444 million dollars a year is a small amount when compared to the debt but multiply that by 100 other wasteful programs being funded and now you are talking about money that will make a BIG difference. Big Bird will still be around rest assured but we should not be footing the bill for this anymore. I say keep cutting. They ought to hire about 100 women around the country that manage the home budget and manage to pay the bills and feed the family to come in there and have a whack at it. I bet they could find some cuts.

The world must stand together to unequivocally reject these brutal acts.
