Post-debate, Romney focuses on economy; no mention of Libya

After Tuesday's fiery presidential debate, the heated arguments between GOP candidate Mitt Romney and President Barack Obama showed no signs of cooling on the stump as they tried to cast each other as economic threats to voters in Ohio, Iowa and Virginia. NBC's Peter Alexander reports.

LEESBURG, Va. – In two appearances Wednesday in the critical battleground state of Virginia, Mitt Romney focused on what he called the president's lack of a second term agenda, while avoiding Libya, a major flashpoint from Tuesday night's debate.

"I think it’s interesting that the president still doesn’t have an agenda for a second term. Don’t you think that it’s time for him to finally put together a vision of what he’d do in the next four years if he were elected?" Romney said in Chesapeake, Va. on Wednesday afternoon.

At an evening event in Northern Virginia, Romney continued to work that theme, occasionally revisiting moments from the debate – as President Barack Obama did on the stump after the first debate – with snappier retorts.

"I just have to mention, I remember last night the president also saying about energy," Romney recalled before some 8,000 supporters Wednesday night. "He said, you know, we built pipelines that would go around the earth, and I thought, ‘It's just the one that comes from Canada with the oil is the one that we want, you see?’ And that's the one I'm going to get."

Libya went unmentioned in either appearance on Wednesday.

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney speaks during a campaign event in front of a barn at Ida Lee Park in Leesburg, Va. on Wednesday.

The timeline of the attacks and the Obama administration’s response seemed to trip Romney during the debate.

Conservatives had previously said the attacks show the White House’s weakness in terms of foreign policy, and both campaigns spent much of Tuesday night's spin room session with reporters re-litigating the finer points of the administration's declaration of the attack as an act of terror.

"With 20 days left, today was a good day to hammer home the contrast between a candidate who has a plan to fix the economy in Governor Romney and a candidate who doesn't have a record to run on or a plan for the future, that being President Obama," Romney senior adviser Kevin Madden said when asked why Romney didn't talk about Libya Wednesday. "Libya is still an issue with many voters, particularly given the conflicting statements from the president and his administration about the nature of the attack. The American people still have unanswered questions."

Obama campaign spokesperson Jen Psaki offered a different view while discussing the debate with reporters aboard Air Force One today, suggesting that Obama's command of the Libya questions in Tuesday's debate might have shut down conversation on the issue -- for now.

"Our view is that the president – the back-and-forth on Libya last night was one of the best moments for the president, one of the best moments in recent debate history," Psaki said. "And that's because the president made clear that being commander-in-chief is about being a leader. It’s not about political gamesmanship."

In the final push in the 2012 presidential election, candidates Mitt Romney and Barack Obama make their last appeals to voters.

With a foreign policy debate coming Monday, Romney did make a point of mentioning other global issues at his second stop Wednesday, highlighting the importance of keeping America's military strong and ticking off a handful of world trouble spots he rarely mentions in a typical stump speech.

"I look around the world at North Korea, with its nuclear capability and a very strange dictator. I look at what’s happening throughout the Middle East and Pakistan," Romney said. "I look around North Africa now, with north Mali having been taken by an al-Qaida affiliate, and I recognize the world continues to be dangerous, and the decisions we make now about our military will determine our ability to defend ourselves in the future."

Gee, I wonder why. Could the reason be that you stuck your foot squarely in your mouth? Think so.

Also no mention from NBC/MSNBC of 0bama lying his ass off about Libya at the debate last night.

,

It's nice to see Romney focused on the economy and what's important to Americans. 0bama can talk about big bird and birth control all he wants, it's not going to put food on dinner tables or children in school

The Romney team are trying to wring out another angle to make political gain out of the deaths of those 4 people in time for Monday's debate. Deplorable, from a party that fought against having a 9/11 inquiry, and when they finally gave in, Bush and Cheney were not under oath.

I find it ironic that you couldn't get them (liberals) to talk about it and slammed Romney for making an issue out of it, claiming the standard line "nothing new to see here just move along" and slamming Romney about not talking about it, when He got his point across to the American public that the white house screwed up and people died and the denied it as a random attack because of a video...

When anybody with half a brain would only look at the calendar and see the date SEPT. 11, 2012 ..random happens randomly and without thought, but to attack on 11 yr anniversiry is purposful act that can not be ignored and the whitehouse trying to cover it up is shameful..

go to CNN and even TMZ who can't stand Romney have posted video of Candy Crowley stating after the debate that she made a mistake about the rose garden comment and CNN network are in damage control because she stuck HER foot in her mouth .... FACT

What Intelligent People Realize: There. Was. No. Lie.

Romney opened his mouth FIRST, with a stupid accusation about apologizing, which wasn't even about the correct event.

What low-information voters & conspiracy theorists don't seem to understand is that these situations are complex, and news is reported as it evolves.

As intelligence was collected, their knowledge about the situation changed - reporting something different after you collect different information is not lying - it's what intelligent people do.

Romney has stopped talking about Libya because he has finally realized he has been WRONG all along.

And he doesn't have anything to offer about jobs or the economy either - he just wants to be a CEO, a BOSS; he is not presidential material. I can hardly wait til he goes back to playing with his cars & their elevator. I am sick of his bullying & tired of that stupid little smirk that he thinks is a smile. I am most tired of all of trying to figure out what - if anything he stands for, other than: "Vote for me because I want to add POTUS to my resume.

He doesn't care about (at least) 47% of Americans. . . he just wants power.

VOTE: O & Joe!

Well then why don't you go over to FOX, Elliot. I'm sure they'll give you a big hug, a tissue and assure you everything is going to be alright. You do know the President mentioned the day after the attack in the Rose Garden that we will investigate all acts of terror. You do know that , don't you? Or are you in such denial that it can't penetrate that thick teabag skull of yours. It's nice if you can' make things up and pretend they're true even if they aren't, but reality has to sink in at some point. Maybe after Nov 6 it will, but I highly doubt it.

Mitt, here's the state of the economy today. And to think, all of this done without your help or advice. Wait. You did offer one bit of advice. Obstruct everything the president attempts to do.

Per Obama Diary:

Steve Benen/The Maddow Blog: For all the Romney/Ryan efforts to convince Americans the economy is getting worse, reality stubbornly keeps getting in the way…

Groundbreaking on new homes surged in September to its fastest pace in more than four years, a sign the housing sector’s budding recovery is gaining traction and supporting the wider economic recovery…..

…. The unemployment rate is at its best point in four years; consumer confidence is at its best point in five years; the federal budget deficit is at its best point in four years. Just this week, reports on retail sales, industrial production, and new housing construction showed sharp and unexpected improvements.

This probably isn’t what Republicans wanted to hear…..

But with every new report showing better and better economic news, the president will be missing a major opportunity if he fails to take advantage of the news: after inheriting the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression, the president took the lead in saving the nation. Nearly four years after taking office, by literally every relevant metric, the nation's economy is stronger and more secure than it was when he started.

____________________

Despite all the obstruction, the president just kept on going. Remarkable job. Remarkable work by his entire Administration.

Remarkable work by Americans all across our nation who never ever gave up. They saw a challenge and they stepped up.

They succeeded.

Unbelievable after where we were in '08. Just unbelievable.

I have a different theory. Romney was up on the timeline. He backed off last night because he's a big picture thinker. Romney knows there is one more debate next week... and on foreign policy... that's when Romney will hammer Obama about it. It was smart for Romney not to expose his cards last night... for any of you liberals who poo poo this... just wait. This issue is far from over... and Romney will go after Obama on this especially in light of news on the subject that was released today.

Obama exposed his hand... and that's a fact.

Right Joe, it will be debated again when the moderator brings it up again. Romney will not bring it up. For Romney, it's the issue he was spanked on twice, once when he tried to make political hay out of it before he even knew what had happened, and again during the second debate, and he doesn't even want to think about it anymore.

My uncle is a retired chief in the Navy and a moderate conservative, my husband has been in the air force working in intelligence for years, They may not agree with Obama on all things (certainly not my uncle), however, they both agreed that there was little that could have been done differently in Benghazi. Also, most of the military men and women that I know have a great deal of respect for the Commander in Chief Obama, and not much respect for Mr. Romney. Believe it or not, it was a terrible tragedy that has been politicized in a moment of great grief for the families.....I thank them all for their service.

I have said it before and I'll say it again. Rombot has no specifics because the Republican agenda would scare the crap out of you.

For readers who don't know what I'm talking about: Ever since Ronald Reagan, the GOP has been run by people who want a much smaller government. In the famous words of the activist Grover Norquist, conservatives want to get the government "down to the size where we can drown it in the bathtub."

But there has always been a political problem with this agenda. Voters may say that they oppose big government, but the programs that actually dominate federal spending -- Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security -- are very popular.

Republicans are waging a war on entitlements so if you have no need Social Security or Medicare keep voting Republican.

Time to hand Willard his pink slip along with all of the Republicans in Congress and the Senate. They have nothing new to offer since their last 8 year administration that so powerfully exuded the brilliance of their economic and foreign diplomacy policies. They turned a "fiscally conservative" party into the party of "put it on my credit card, and hopefully I'll pay it off later." They have become hypocrites and corrupt at every level, and it's time we washed our hands of them completely.

I think Romney should open up with, "Why did we move heaven and earth to get Osama Bin Laden? I told you that would be a mistake." Then he should follow up with how Obama is to blame for all the extremists in the Arab world. And finally, he should finish with his coup de grace: Obama isn't really an American with American values who believes in "American Exceptionalism"; ergo, Obama will not kill a sufficient quotient of Arabs. But make no doubt about it, shaky trigger finger Mitt is eager to prove he's a real man and a real American. Bombing Iran will be just like raiding a pension fund to him - fun, fun, fun. And don't forget, $200 billion more every year for defense. Richard Pearl, Wolfowitz, and all the @!$%#s return to Foggy Bottom. Hurray!! And don't forget torture!! Dick Cheney will be a paid consultant on that. He's got a new heart to put into it. Now, Uncle Dick is a man with American values. Romney doesn't give two squats about the economy or the deficit. If there is one thing that has been obvious for years it is that if he is saying he will do it in the campaign it is the last thing he will do if elected. I find it hysterical that the tightie righties are all jumping on the insane train when every last one of you hated this guy throughout the primaries. Here's a scooby snack for ya... Hope and change, No new taxes, ring a bell? A vote for this douche bag is a vote to blow a hole in the economy that will never mend. I am not a ember of any political party either Democrat or Republican. America is a country of
50 extremely diverse states and life in America may well depend on which state each of us lives in. Climate, industry, heritage, resources and population vary from coast to coast. Unfortunately federal regulations, rules and laws can and do affect states differently.

The problems of a border state and a Midwest state are not always identical. A state that’s economy has historically relied on manufacturing faces different problems than a state historically relying on agriculture. Other states have long relied on the economy of mining, oil, a harbor, textiles, tourism and livestock. The solutions for a bad economy can be just as varied.

The problem in America is not lack of money, we are the richest nation on earth – it’s the way we spend our tax dollars. I have lived in our country under seven Democrat presidents and six Republican presidents. Under each president trillions of tax dollars for political and reelection reasons have been spent or earmarked by Congress for special interests groups to no avail. The government has invested its huge treasury for decades in energy, education, minorities, welfare and now health care only to see those matters get even worse. It has been proven that money is not the answer to our economic problems, therefore neither is our government.

We are now a democratic nation held hostage by political donations, the ideology of one political party or the so called ‘swing states’. In my opinion that’s not a true democracy. At the birth of our nation Europe, Asia and other continents were separated by long ocean travel and it actually took weeks to travel form our east coast to our west coast. Today, in America we watch events live as they are happening all over America and worldwide.

Some of us get up in the morning in the USA and go to bed that same night in England. Business men and women frequently have their breakfast in New York, lunch in Los Angeles and perhaps even diner that same night in Chicago. Our founding fathers were virtually without every technical means of travel and communication used today so they created an Electoral College, not a place but a system to determine who would win the presidential election.

Most states have a “winner-take-all” system that awards all electors to the winning presidential candidate. Each state is awarded the same number of electoral delegates as they are represented by in Congress. This means in final tabulation some presidents have won the presidential office without the majority of popular votes.

The basic premise of democracy has always been one vote for one citizen and it mattered. I am a proponent of reforming the process in America in how we elect a president. I would like to see the Electoral College replaced by the majority of the popular vote. We have all the 21st century technology today to make that a reality.

It would do away and any necessity to concentrate and spend millions of dollars in swing states. And help eliminate unnecessary pecuniary battles between states, the superfluous ideology and dogma of one political party, special interest groups, unions and provincial demands.

It would help ensure all of us that we are electing a President by the will of the people and a President that has the interest of every citizen and not interest by class, race, gender, social status or income.

The only economics Romney is interested in is HIS OWN!! He wants to go back to GW Bush economics where the world economy exploded and ruined THE WORLD ECONOMY!!

He's a pig and lying bastard (Romney). The fact that Republicans believe him is the most ignorant piece of linguini I ever heard or smelled!

GW Bush is his model and GW Bush ruined the world with investment bankers that were deregulated and their greed WAS THE SIZE OF THE LARGEST PIG DOG YOU'LL EVER SEE!

The investment bankers ruined the world economy, ran for cover and lied every chance they got, just like Romney does in the debates!

This term, we'll see Obama go after the investment bankers. Couldn't do it the first term because they'd try to ruin him for his second term. This time, the GOP (Republicans) and investment banker pigs are going to jail! They know it, and that's why they're lying their pants off every chance they get. Obama wants to regulate the investment bankers because they're greedy pigs and they made every single American lose their home that wasn't already rich.

The rich got richer and now Obama has taken away their silver spoon! Don't believe the lies. Stick with the guy who IS ACTUALLY FIXING THE ECONOMY! IT TOOK A DECADE TO FIX THE GREAT DEPRESSION! OBAMA HAS FIXED THE REPUBLICAN IDIOTS MESS IN ONLY 4 YEARS AND THINGS ARE READY TO IMPROVE DRAMATICALLY.

Romney has ruined more American jobs than he ever created. I paid 16.1% income tax and I earn less than 6 figures, Romney paid 14.1%... Yes, Romney is a PIG!! I hate him and the right wing sociopaths that follow him.

VOTE OBAMA OR ROMNEY'S ECONOMICS WILL DESTROY YOU AGAIN WITH WARS AND INVESTMENTS BANKERS GONE WILD!!

He sure wants that pipeline that goes from Canada straight to the Gulf of Mexico that won't add a drop of oil to the United States. It is probably a convenient coincidence that he never mentions that OUR COUNTRY would bear the burden of any oil spill without any benefit at all.

But he makes it sound attractive. Don't the Canadians have a shoreline? Why don't they build a pipeline to their west coast? Leave us out of it.

There is something really distressing about this entire flap on Benghazi - it is the sound of war drums in the background. Can you hear it? Republicans are forming plans for another round of ground wars when (IF!) they take the reins again this fall. Can you hear it? Just listen to the rhetoric here on the boards - this was an act of war; they attacked our embassy and killed our people (they didn't - the people killed were taken at a CIA safe house). Just replay the speeches by McCain and Rice at the RNC laying out the cases for military interventions in Iran and Syria while slamming the President for his Afghanistan withdrawal plans. And it is incredibly stupid!

What have the last two ground wars bought us? C'mon, 10 years to subdue two countries smaller than some US states? WWI lasted 4 years and WWII lasted 6 years. These were wars fought on a global scale. The idiots in charge, good Republican businessmen, lost sight of the goal. More worried about Halliburton's profits than US security, they dithered until the clock ran out and then retired to live in luxury with "thank you's" from Halliburton.

Al Quaeda is our enemy. Al Quaeda doesn't have a country. Al Quaeda is spread among many countries with a distributed network of operatives. How do you fight a ground war against this? You can't!

What you can do is make it very, very dangerous to be an Al Quaeda leader. Obama has done that:

June 2012 - Yahya al Libi killed (senior al Qaeda leader in Pakistan)

September 2011 – Younis al Mauritani captured (senior al Qaeda leader in Pakistan)

September 2011 – Abu Hafs al-Shahri killed (al Qaeda’s chief of Pakistan operations)

August 2011 – Atiyah Abd al-Rahman killed (Al Qaeda No. 2 in Pakistan)

May 2011 – Osama bin Laden killed (Number 1 Al Qaeda, and worlds most wanted)

June 2011 – Fazul Abdullah Mohammed killed (top al-Qaeda operative in Somalia)

June 2011 – Ilyas Kashmiri killed (top al- Qaeda commander in Pakistan)

June 2010 – Hawza al Jawfi killed along with 6 other terrorist (leader in Pakistan)

May 2010 – Mustafa Ahmed Muhammad Uthman Abu al-Yazid killed [aliases Shaikh Sa’id al-Masri and Mustafa Abu al-Yazid] (al Qaeda’s No. 3)

April 2010 – Abu Ayyub al-Masri and Abu Umar al-Baghdadi (Top two Al Qaeda operatives in Iraq)

March 2010 – Qari Mohammad Zafar killed (terrorist leader in Pakistan)

February 2010 – Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar captured (The Taliban’s top military commander)

February 2010 – Sirajuddin Haqqani killed (militant commander in Pakistan)

January 2010 – Qassem al-Rimi, Ayed al-Shabwani, Ammar al-Waili, Saleh al-Tais, Ibrahim and Mohammed Saleh al-Banna killed (Al-Qaeda military boss and senior Al-Qaeda figures in the Arabian Peninsula)

December 2009 – Saleh Al-Somali killed (senior al Qaeda operative in Pakistan)

September 2009 – Saleh Ali Saleh Nabhan killed (ringleader of an al Qaeda cell in Kenya)

Now, I ask you - who is more concerned about America's security? Republicans, who led us to two long, wasteful, fruitless ground wars (and wants to do it some more)? Or Obama, who has made it very, very dangerous to be an Al Quaeda leader?

Don’t you think that it’s time for him to finally put together a vision of what he’d do in the next four years if he were elected?" Romney said in Chesapeake, Va. on Wednesday afternoon.

Memo to Romney:

Thanks for the suggestion, Mittens. I'm sure the President will be more specific about his plans for his second term in the coming days.

Boy did he ever deliver you a smack-down!...bet you won't be yapping about Libya now, will you, Mutt? :)

Prehaps Romney is awaiting more info to be be brought out in the investigation.

Well now, that would be smart of him, wouldn't it? Unlike his jumping the gun while the attacks were in progress and falsely telegraphing to the world that the U.S. president was an apologist for terrorists!

Are you aware that Ambassador Stevens was at a CIA safe house in Benghazi which was set afire? It was a secret installation, not guarded by U.S. Marines, no big "CIA SAFE HOUSE" sign on the front. Security there was the responsibility of the CIA.

Romney can try again and again to make political hay out of the death of our ambassador and three other diplomats, but that dog won't hunt. He knows zip, nada, zilch about foreign affairs and security at our diplomatic missions. His little 'boy wonder' running mate voted against increasing funds to diplomatic installations.

The families of the men who died that day, men who Romney has tried to use as a political football, have asked him to stop using their sons for his own political purposes.

Romney's nattering about Benghazi has accomplished nothing except to further expose the CIA operations we have in Libya. I guess that's what Republicans like to do, out the CIA (like Cheney and Scooter outed Valerie Plame)! Like that makes us safer?

Romney ought to go back to talking about what he knows best: how to buy up, burden with debt, bankrupt and shut down American companies. He's great at that. Too bad for Mitt Romney that's not what America needs in a president.

OBAMA/ BIDEN: FORWARD!

I think Obama made a huge misstake claiming he knew it was a terroist attack on day 2. He went out of his way to denie it waa terroist attack on day 3 through 14. Susan Rice Carnry and ObamA himself all of them claimed it was not a terroist attack. Obama basicaly admitted that he knew all along that it was a terroist attack by claiming he actualy did know on day 2. Huge error by Obama he just put the nail in his on coffin. Howevert if you look back at the transcripts on this site check out the ED shows discussion and see what we were talking about. I was one of the few that was calling it a terroist attack the rest of you were telling me that I had no proof and that Obama said it was a mob over a video. Now we now that that was a big cover up because Obama confirmed that in the debates.

It's nice to see Romney focused on the economy and what's important to Americans.

Focused on the economy? As a student of "the economy" and as one that prides myself in being open-minded and open to all solutions, I have listened to Romney's "solutions" very carefully.

But as a former math major and corporate director, I can tell you that Romney's "plan" is based on bull@!$%#. Pure bull@!$%#.

A 20% cut across the board to stimulate the economy. Okay. But math and history does not support the assumption that he makes... that increased revenues will more than cover whatever percent tax cut you choose. In fact, most economists worth a second look agree that a tax cut is so unfocused and has such a delayed effect that it is one of the LEAST effective stimulus possible. And tax cuts are viewed to be only temporary in their stimulus effects... which leaves you with only two choices in follow-on years... either remove the tax cuts and wade through the UNSTIMULUS reaction or keep them in place and deal with the debt that will be generated.

This is EXACTLY where we are with the Bush tax cuts. They've been around so long they have lost any stimulus effect, and no one wants to remove them because it will seem like a tax increase, but if we don't remove them we will continue to drive more debt.

So Romney's answer? The usual. Double-down on stupid. Let's raise the level of tax cuts so they cause a new temporary bump (maybe) but will only cause more debt and no stimulus in a quick moment. Like I said... let's DOUBLE-DOWN ON STUPID!

Oh, but we'll get rid of loop-holes and make them revenue neutral (which, by the way, removes any stimulus effect altogether). And after campaigning in support of lowering taxes on the rich and completely removing capital gains taxes we are to just "trust" this compulsive liar that he will not raise taxes on the middle class and lower them for the rich?

This smells of bad policy, more lies, and more deception, and explains exactly why the big donors go Romney's way.

His economic "plan" is only a plan to make the rich richer and to further "harvest" the middle class. It's math. It's his single point plan. Other than a plititude of things he "likes" as of his last debate, he has no viable plan for the rest of us.

There's a good reason to be talking the economy- it's not booming, it's stagnant at best. Take today's unemployment numbers as an example. Remember how last week California didn't submit their monthly numbers, but the BLS decided to publish the numbers anyways. The media jumped up and yelled recovery! Well, this week's numbers just came out- expected to be up about 26,000, well they are up but it's 46,000! So clearly the 7.9 number is a fraud once you roll in the real data.

That's how politics works nowadays- you say something inaccurate that can't be disproven during your speech, get the media bang for your statement, and let the thing settle out later. You get all of the excitment without actually having to do anything of merit. I don't care which party plays this game, it's bad for the people.

Romney is focused on the economy as the President should be. The problem is this President knows nothing about the economy. Except how to make it worse. The subject of Libya will be brought up Monday and hammered home. To you on the left you will bury your head and not believe it but who cares about that.

The economy is in the tank. Taxes are to high and fuel is way to high. Romney has a plan. Obama has no plan as is evident by the last four years of failure.

Americans are getting screwed, and do not give me that BS about these countries governments control the oil, if that is what it takes to stop Americans from being scrwed by big oil, so be it. Plus the fact that America has the largest oil reserves in the world, enought to last for 200 years, plenty of time to find other energy sources.

Europeans and Americans are definitely paying some of the most painful gas prices globally. More specifically, Norway pays the highest prices for gas world-wide(double what Americans pay). All the while, citizens of oil-rich nations fill their tanks with pocket change. A british insurance firm -Staveley Head- recently released a list of the worlds gas prices. Below are the seven cheapest countries in the world to purchase gasoline.

1. Caracas, Venezuela

$0.18 per gallon (average) — These gas prices have been in place before Chavez took office, and will remain. The last time the government tried to raise gas prices mass protests sprang up across the country, and several people died.

2. Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

$0.48 per gallon (average) — The kingdom has 20% of the world's oil reserves, they are the heavy hitter on the global stage.

3. Tripoli, Libya

$0.54 per gallon— Libya is ranked 9th in the oil-producing world league.

4. Ashgabat, Turkmenistan

$0.72 per gallon (average) — Each person with a vehicle gets 120 litres free per month, so who cares about the price anyway?

5. Manama, Bahrain

$0.78 per gallon (average) — Which is likely to rise due to low oil reserves, and a new plan to diversify the economy.

6. Kuwait City, Kuwait

Kuwaitis by nature are very wealthy, but who doesn't like a discount?

7. Doha, Qatar

The citizens of Qatar have the second highest income/world and the 7th lowest gas prices in the world.

I'm 100% with you on that, skip. It frightens me to see the greatest nation on earth turning into a country of ignorant, apathetic, bigoted, sanctimonius, intellectually lazy haters. Led by a loathsome freak.

As all great empires have fallen-- from internal rot-- so shall we unless we wake up and turn this around.

The good news is that Limbaugh, without censorship, is digging his own grave as he becomes increasingly more maniacal and more brazen about his fascist ideology. He is on the edge of madness and it shows. He will burn himself out and make himself irrelevant because he has no control, either internal or external. There is nothing in him that warrants an ounce of respect.

Wikipedia: Greg Palast (born June 26, 1952)[1] is a New York Times-bestselling author[2] and a freelance journalist for the British Broadcasting Corporation[3] as well as the British newspaper The Observer.[4]

How Mitt and Ann made millions–and Mitt's hedge fund donors made billions–from the auto-industry rescue that he condemned.

    By Greg Palast

Mitt Romney’s opposition to the auto bailout has haunted him on the campaign trail, especially in Rust Belt states like Ohio. There, in September, the Obama campaign launched television ads blasting Romney’s November 2008 New York Times op-ed,“Let Detroit Go Bankrupt.”
But Romney has done a good job of concealing, until now, the fact that he and his wife, Ann, personally gained at least $15.3 million from the bailout—and a few of Romney’s most important Wall Street donors made more than $4 billion. Their gains, and the Romneys’, were astronomical—more than 3,000 percent on their investment.

It all starts with Delphi Automotive, a former General Motors subsidiary whose auto parts remain essential to GM’s production lines. No bailout of GM—or Chrysler, for that matter—could have been successful without saving Delphi.

So, in addition to making massive loans to automakers in 2009, the federal government sent, directly or indirectly, more than $12.9 billion to Delphi—and to the hedge funds that had gained control over it.

One of the hedge funds profiting from that bailout— $1.28 billion so far—is Elliott Management, directed by Paul Singer. According to The Wall Street Journal, Singer has given more to support GOP candidates—$2.3 million—than anyone else on Wall Street this election season.

His personal giving is matched by that of his colleagues at Elliott; collectively, they have donated $3.4 million to help elect Republicans this season, while giving only $1,650 to Democrats. And Singer is influential with the GOP presidential candidate; he’s not only an informal adviser but, according to the Journal, his support was critical in helping push Representative Paul Ryan onto the ticket.

Singer, whom Fortune magazine calls a “passionate defender of the 1%,” has carved out a specialty investing in distressed firms and distressed nations, which he does by buying up their debt for pennies on the dollar and then demanding payment in full. This so-called “vulture investor” received $58 million on Peruvian debt that he snapped up for $11.4 million, and $90 million on Congolese debt that he bought for a mere $20 million.

In the process, he’s built one of the largest private equity firms in the nation, and over decades he’s racked up an unusually high average return on investments of 14 percent.

Other GOP presidential hopefuls chased Singer’s endorsement, but Mitt chased Singer with his own checkbook, investing at least $1 million with Elliott through Ann Romney’s blind trust (it could be far more, but the Romneys have declined to disclose exactly how much). Along the way, Singer gained a reputation, according to Fortune, “for strong-arming his way to profit.” That is certainly what happened at Delphi.

      On Romney's character....

In July 1996, the 14-year-old daughter of Robert
Gay, a partner at Bain Capital, had disappeared. She had attended a rave party
in New York City and had become high on ecstasy. Three days later, her
distraught father had no idea where she was. Mitt Romney closed down the entire firm
and asked all 30 partners and employees to fly to New York to help find
Gay’s daughter. Romney set up a command center at the LaGuardia Marriott and
hired a private detective firm to assist with the search. He established a
toll-free number for tips, coordinating the effort with the NYPD, and went
through his Rolodex and called everyone Bain did business with in New York, and
asked them to help find his friend’s missing daughter. Romney’s accountants at
Price Waterhouse Cooper put up posters on street poles, while cashiers at a
pharmacy owned by Bain put fliers in the bag of every shopper. Romney and the
other Bain employees scoured areas of New York City on foot and talked with
everyone they could – prostitutes, drug addicts – anyone.

That day, their hunt made the evening news, which
featured photos of the girl and the Bain employees searching for her. As a
result, a teenage boy phoned in, asked if there was a reward, and then hung up
abruptly. The NYPD traced the call to a home in New Jersey, where they found the
girl in a stranger's basement, shivering and experiencing withdrawal symptoms
from a massive ecstasy dose. Doctors later said the girl might not have survived
another day. Romney’s former partner credits him with saving his daughter’s
life, saying, “I’ll never forget this.”

So, here’s an epiphany: Mitt Romney simply can’t
help himself. He sees a problem, and sets to work solving it. He doesn’t do it
for self-aggrandizement or for personal gain - he does it because that’s just
      how he’s wired.

Many people are unaware of the fact that when
Romney was asked by his old employer, Bill Bain, to come back to Bain &
Company as CEO to rescue the firm from bankruptcy, Romney left Bain Capital to
work at Bain & Company for an annual salary of one dollar.

When Romney went to the rescue of the 2002 Salt
Lake Olympics, he accepted no salary for three years, and wouldn’t use an
      expense account.

He also accepted no salary as Governor of
      Massachusetts.

The only problem is that he did speak of terrorism in the rose garden the next day.

Mike, speaking about terrorism and calling the Benghazi attack as an act of terror are two totally different things.

With the jobless claims report being released and showing an increase then Romney should be talking about the economy. Duh.

In Monday's debate I hope Romney directly looks at Obama and asks him this:

Did you Mr. President say these words in the Rose Garden, "the Benghazi attack was an act of terror"?

That's all Romney has to ask. It's very simple. Obama has to say no because it's a fact.

Obama never specifically said that the Benghazi attack was an act of terror as he led the American people & Candy Crowley to believe in the second debate.

Obama openly & knowingly misled the American people during the Libya question.

So sad that Candy fell into his trap.

"Our view is that the president – the back-and-forth on Libya last night was one of the best moments for the president, one of the best moments in recent debate history," Psaki said. "And that's because the president made clear that being commander-in-chief is about being a leader. It’s not about political gamesmanship."

But the President was wrong. The moderator later admitted it. Despite the actual intelligence reports, for 14 days the President kept insisting that the cause of the attack was a reaction to the video on utube. But the President said that he knew the day after the attack that it was a terrorist attack. So he and his administration was telling the nation a story that was not true. So either the President himself was either lying or he was not telling the truth. I have never before seen our UN Ambassador come on TV and officially tell the nation anything. What she told the nation was not true. She is suppose be our UN Ambassador, not a spokesperson for the administration. Who gave her the orders and set up the TV sessions and why? The administration is not telling us anything. So one of the best moments for the President was his not telling the truth on this matter

Tony, as your hero James Carville said, "It's the economy stupid." Everybody knows Obama lied before and during the 2nd debate. Everybody knows the Obama administration tried their best to cover up the Libya disaster, spitting on the graves of four American heros. The point has been made. Check and Mate.

BTW, the electoral college map now puts Romney in the lead.

One thing is for sure, the right wingers are in complete denial. Anyone can search for the video from the Rose Garden the day after the attack, and clearly see that Obama condemned "these acts of terror." All the while, the crazies on this board keep on blathering about how Obama lied about it.

It's funny how you also tend to claim Obama is an economic failure, yet you'd have to be completely insane to want to go back to where we were four years ago (remember at the end of 8 years of republican leadership when our economy and the global economy nearly collapsed?). We are recovering, these things take time, especially when congress does everything in its power to hinder progress.

One last thing, Romney stating he wants the Keystone pipeline is crazy. Is he running for Prime Minister of Canada? The pipeline will cut through our country, confiscate land that is currently privately owned by OUR citizens, and end in the Gulf of Mexico where it will be sold on the world market. If there were to be a complication or the pipeline burst, we'd have a tremendous oil spill on our land to clean up. All of this to pipe Canadian oil that is sold globally. That's right, not a drop of that oil that we'd be pumping across our country would benefit us.

OregonPat, so you agree with Romney that the President knew that it was a terrorist attack when he gave his rose garden speech. Then why did the President and his administration tell the American people otherwise for the following 14 days? Some people would say that perpetrating falsehoods is a form of lying.

the President promised that the 2012 federal deficit would not exceed 229.27 billion dollars. That did not happen. The President's adminiatration published a report that said that if the stimulus were passed that unemployment would now be less than 6%. That did not happen. The President has not kept his promises on the economy.

              Will Haas

I don't recall Obama ever saying that this wasn't an act of terrorism. The perpetrators won't always transmit a video claiming responsibility or their reasons for the act, and at the time there was a lot of commotion about the video. Remember, the original message condemning the attack was released by the Consulate, not the White House, and the original message did denounce the Islamophobic video. Before Obama even had a chance to publicly address the situation, Romney had already released his statement claiming Obama "apologized" for the incident and was critical of the administration while these events were still happening. On 9/11/01, there wasn't a single Democrat that tried to politicize the attack or condemn the administration (even though it was later found that Bush ignored repeated warnings and chose not to prioritize the threat of an attack on our soil). We banded together as a nation and rallied around our fallen citizens. It's a real shame that the republican party refuses to put our country first and would prefer to make a cheap political attack on the President.

By the way, why was your party so apathetic toward the deficit when Bush was in office?

                #1.90 - Thu Oct 18, 2012 3:57 PM EDT

OregonPat, thank you for reading my post and commenting. For 14 days the President kept bringing up the video, presenting it as the cause for all of the recent protests in the middle east. His intelligence was telling him that the action in Libya was a terrorist attack, that there was no protest but the President was not relaying that information to the American people. The President told Romney at the debate that he told the American people on 10/12 that the event in Libya was a terrorist attack even though a video of the rose garden speech says otherwise. Therefore the President knew on 10/12 that the action was a terrorist attack but he and his administration kept telling the public otherwise. The administration sent the UN Ambassador out to officially tell the American people that the action in Libya was not at terrorist attack, that it was a result of a spontaneous demonstration caused by that utube video. Perpetrating falsehoods is often considered to be lying.

Why don't you ask the Republican party this. I hated the deficits that occurred during the Bush administration. I was hopeful that Obama who was running as a fiscal conservative and who had promised to cut the deficit in half by the end of his first administration would solve the problem. But rather than cut deficits in half he more than doubled them. To keep the President's promise the 2012 federal deficit should not have exceeded 229.27 billion dollars yet it missed the President's promised limit by almost 1 trillion dollars. I estimate that that additional money that the federal government has had to borrow will end up costing the tax payers about 10 trillion dollars before it is all paid back in 180 years. The situation is a disaster that will adversely effect us all. The President's idea of spending our way to prosperity has not been working and has been costing us dearly.

What could Obama possibly talk about? His record as POTUS? hahahahahahaahahahahahaha. Keep the heat on. Hosed economy, unemployment at a real 17.9%. Gas over $4.00 per gallon. Credit downgrades, $17 TRILLION in debt. 49 million on food stamps. Oh, and that little bump in the road. 4 dead Americans with absolutely zero protection, because Hillary wanted to make a statement. And Obama still cannot call radical Muslim jihadists what they are. TERRORIST COWARDS. Why? Because Obama is a Muslim.

At this point, then, Republicans insist that the deficit must be eliminated but they're not willing either to raise taxes or to support cuts in any major government programs. And they're not willing to participate in serious bipartisan discussions, either, because that might force them to explain their plan -- and there isn't any plan, except to regain power.

                  Mitt is a cult leader.

                  His record as POTUS?

                  One at a time:

Hosed economy - thank you George W. Bush! No matter how much you would like to deny it, he is reponsible for our current state.

unemployment at a real 17.9% - where do you get your figures? Whatever... If accurate, then the real figures right after George W. Bush left us in this mess were at 25%!!! That's what the Great Depression left us with. That makes George W. Bush the creator of the second Great Depression. Now, Romney has hired the majority of Bush's old economic advisors - do you really, really want to return to that?

Gas over $4.00 per gallon - yep, that's just about where it was in June 2008. George W. Bush stepped right up and managed to reduce that to less than $2 a gallon... by trashing the entire American economy! Do you really, really want to return to that?

Credit downgrades - read the report issued with S&P's downgrade. They put the blame squarely on Republicans!

$17 TRILLION in debt - the number right now is $16T. When George W. Bush's last budget ran out it was $12T. Republicans managed to run up 40% of our current debt load in only 8 years! And you expect them to fix it?

49 million on food stamps - Again, where do you get your numbers? People whose job it is to track that say 46 million. When George W. Bush started hi two terms there were 17 million people on food stamps. By the end of his economic debacle, there were 33 million. If anyone deserves the title of "food stamp president" it is dubya! No one ever worked soooo hard to put poeple out of work and onto food stamps. Romney has hired the majority of Bush's old economic advisors - do you really, really want to return to that?

Because Obama is a Muslim - Hahahahahaha! I don't even need to touch this one. You are a fool!

The ironic thing is that if Romeny is elected - his first budget (which will be for 2010) will run a deficit of a trillion dollars. The exact same thing he is currently slamming Obama on. Quite hysterical if you ask me.

Engineer maybe you should see this fact check>>>>>

                  Remember
                  January 3rd 2007..

                  The day the
democrats took over was not January 22nd 2009 it was actually January 3rd 2007
the day the Democrats took over the House of Representatives and the Senate,
the start of the 110th Congress. The Democratic Party controlled a majority in
both chambers for the first time since the end of the 103rd Congress in 1995.

                  For those
who are listening to the liberals propagating the fallacy that everything is
                  "Bush's Fault", think about this:

                  January
3rd, 2007 was the day the Democrats took over the Senate and the Congress:

                  At the
                  time:

                  The DOW
                  Jones closed at 12,621.77

                  The GDP for
                  the previous quarter was 3.5%

                  The
                  Unemployment rate was 4.6%

                  George
Bush's Economic policies SET A RECORD of 52 STRAIGHT MONTHS of JOB CREATION!

                  Remember
                  the day...

                  January
3rd, 2007 was the day that Barney Frank took over the House Financial Services
Committee and Chris Dodd took over the Senate Banking Committee.

                  The
economic meltdown that happened 15 months later was in what part of the
                  economy?

                  BANKING AND
                  FINANCIAL SERVICES!!!

                  THANK YOU
DEMOCRATS for taking us from 13,000 DOW, 3.5 GDP and 4.6% Unemployment... to
this CRISIS by (among MANY other things) dumping 5-6 TRILLION Dollars of toxic
loans on the economy from YOUR Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac FIASCOS! (BTW: Bush
asked Congress 17 TIMES to stop Fannie & Freddie - starting in 2001 because
it was financially risky for the US economy).

                  And who
took the THIRD highest pay-off from Fannie Mae AND Freddie Mac????

                  OBAMA

                  And who
fought against reform of Fannie and Freddie???

                  OBAMA and
                  the Democratic Congress

                  So when
some one tries to blame Bush...

                  REMEMBER
JANUARY 3rd, 2007.... THE DAY THE DEMOCRATS TOOK OVER!" Bush may have been
in the car but the Democrats were in charge of the gas pedal and steering wheel
                  they were driving.

He also accepted no salary as Governor of
                  Massachusetts.

                    gordonw12 -

You keep spouting this nonsense. The economy was all perfect until the Democrats took over Congress in 2007 and then things went to hell.

Well, let's take a look at another Congressional takeover - Republicans in 2010. You can get the quarterly data from the government website Bureau of Economic Analysis.

                    GDP real growth by quarter

                    2010 Q1 = 2.3%

                    2010 Q2 = 2.2%

                    2010 Q3 = 2.6%

                    2010 Q4 = 2.4%

                    2011 Q1 = 0.1%

Note that the elections were held in Nov, 2010 and wave of Republican Congressmen took office in Jan, 2011. The result was an immediate downturn in economic growth! That must have been the Republican's fault! We went from an average quarterly growth of 2.4% to 0.1%!!!

The Romney team are trying to wring out another angle to make political gain out of the deaths of those 4 people in time for Monday's debate. Deplorable, from a party that fought against having a 9/11 inquiry, and when they finally gave in, Bush and Cheney were not under oath.

Hussein and Hillary did that at Andrews AF Base. You do remember the photo op? The caskets? The false words? Obama and Clinton have never been around when dead American soldiers return from the Middle East. Strictly a photo op for Obama.

                    This is worth repeating...

"What we do know is that the natural protests that arose because of the outrage over the video were used as an excuse by extremists to see if they could also directly harm US interests..." (Univision Interview when asked about Benghazi on Sept 20, 2012 - a full 9 days after the attack)

Really? Mr. Barry Soetoro, acting President of the US. And just where did you get your intelligence? The CIA knew the day after the attack that there were no "natural protests" and it had nothing to do with a video. Did you miss this meeting because your campaigning on Romney bashing was more important? WHAT WE DO KNOW is that your Middle East policies are a failure and it has cost American lives.

When a candidate harps on a specific issue,as Romney had with the Benghazi attack, relentlessly for a period of days and then drops it from their stump speech altogether that tells you all you need to know. Romney went for the KO,led with his chin and got knocked on his ass.

As for the Romney campaign and the Right trying to argue the semantics of how it was said and what it means, sorry, but when you have pulled the crap you have in this campaign, you cede that argument.

Taking "you didn't build that" out of context to appear to mean the businesses when Obama was clearly talking about the roads and bridges...saying Obama had said "if we keep talking about the economy,we're going to lose" as if he was talking about THIS election and HIS campaign when he was actually quoting a McCain staff member in the 2008 election...and on the day he threw his hat in the race saying that Obama had taken the recession and made it worse and then,in less than one news cycle denying that he had ever said it to many of the same press that covered him saying it in the first place...after these and many other examples I for one could give a rat's ass what Romney and his supporters think about the semantics of what the President said that day. They punted the high ground on this field a long time ago.

Lastly for those crying, whining, pissing and moaning about Candy Crowley and her performance last night and the supposed Left leaning media---when YOUR candidate give press credentials to a scumbag, racist nutbar like Joseph Corzi, you can take your complaints about legitimate journalists and stick them.

Assume for the moment that Creepy Crawly and Obama were correct that Obama initially called the attack on Benghazi and act of terror. OK, then a few days later they said the Libya attack was "spontaneous" and started with the attack on the U.S. Embassy in Cairo, Egypt, over an anti-Islamic film. And then a week or so after that they said it was a pre-planned terrorist attack.

I think all that rapid-fire flip-flopping sends the wrong message to the international community. When Obama hasn't the slightest idea of what actually happened, he should keep his mouth shut.

ir12 - Yes I know you would prefer some euphemism like "evolving," as the Obama apologists used about his flip-flopping on the gay marriage issue. Remember?

Obama changed his position on gay marriage whenever his political fortunes required him to do so. Running for the Illinois state senate he was for gay marriage. “I favor legalizing same-sex marriages,” he wrote in answer to a questionnaire back then. In 2004, he was running for the U.S. Senate and needed to appeal to voters statewide. So he said, “I believe marriage is between a man and a woman. I am not in favor of gay marriage.” Now in 2012, he is for it. To paraphrase John Kerry, he was for it before he was against it before he was for it again.

How can anyone trust that man?

I would be more upset if he was flip-floping on more important things. Let gays/lesbians get married if they want to. They are US citizens and they should have the same rights as everyone else. I'm sick and tired of presidential candidates talking about gay marriage, abortion & religion! They should be talking about the most important issues like education, economy & healthcare. People need to stop being one issue voters, that is our biggest problem.

If Romney wants to harp on the economy, I say let Obama highlight the string of good news lately. For example, Clear Channel was forced to report more good news on the economic front this morning. Georgia unemployment dropped 2/10ths of a percent from August to September to 9%. Before anyone regurgitates that '23 Million' number, long term unemployment also dropped for the fifth month in a row.

The hole dug by Party Boy Bush was huge. This is why it is taking us so long to climb out. We are almost out of the woods. Economic indicators ACROSS THE BOARD are up. Housing starts. Housing prices. Jobs are coming back. Even Wrongme had to admit that manufacturing is coming back already!!!

From the debate transcript: ROMNEY..."if we do what I am planning on doing, which is getting us energy-independent, North American energy independence within eight years, you're going to see manufacturing come back jobs because our energy is low-cost.

They're already beginning to come back because of our abundant energy."

Maybe you need a fact check on dates too>>>>>>>>

                          Remember
                          January 3rd 2007..

                          The day the
democrats took over was not January 22nd 2009 it was actually January 3rd 2007
the day the Democrats took over the House of Representatives and the Senate,
the start of the 110th Congress. The Democratic Party controlled a majority in
both chambers for the first time since the end of the 103rd Congress in 1995.

                          For those
who are listening to the liberals propagating the fallacy that everything is
                          "Bush's Fault", think about this:

                          January
3rd, 2007 was the day the Democrats took over the Senate and the Congress:

                          At the
                          time:

                          The DOW
                          Jones closed at 12,621.77

                          The GDP for
                          the previous quarter was 3.5%

                          The
                          Unemployment rate was 4.6%

                          George
Bush's Economic policies SET A RECORD of 52 STRAIGHT MONTHS of JOB CREATION!

                          Remember
                          the day...

                          January
3rd, 2007 was the day that Barney Frank took over the House Financial Services
Committee and Chris Dodd took over the Senate Banking Committee.

                          The
economic meltdown that happened 15 months later was in what part of the
                          economy?

                          BANKING AND
                          FINANCIAL SERVICES!!!

                          THANK YOU
DEMOCRATS for taking us from 13,000 DOW, 3.5 GDP and 4.6% Unemployment... to
this CRISIS by (among MANY other things) dumping 5-6 TRILLION Dollars of toxic
loans on the economy from YOUR Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac FIASCOS! (BTW: Bush
asked Congress 17 TIMES to stop Fannie & Freddie - starting in 2001 because
it was financially risky for the US economy).

                          And who
took the THIRD highest pay-off from Fannie Mae AND Freddie Mac????

                          OBAMA

                          And who
fought against reform of Fannie and Freddie???

                          OBAMA and
                          the Democratic Congress

                          So when
some one tries to blame Bush...

                          REMEMBER
JANUARY 3rd, 2007.... THE DAY THE DEMOCRATS TOOK OVER!" Bush may have been
in the car but the Democrats were in charge of the gas pedal and steering wheel
                          they were driving.

That's a new twist you got there, President Obama is at fault for the whole economic meltdown.

                              WOW

                              WOW

Even bush gave wall street 780 Billion dollars and the auto industry loans. You do remember that right? Or do you think President Obama gave wall street 780 billion and the auto industry their first loans?

President Obama demanded result from the 900 billion and for the auto industry to present a concrete for the future. The results is you are talking to me and you have a job.

Other wise just imagine if President Obama said no 900 billion for the economy, said no to the auto industry, said let's reduce spending to zero. What the F-N do you think would have happen?

You guess it - no re-election - millions and millions in the USA and the world lost jobs and the world economies would have collapsed. Would that have been a better picture for you and your family?

Of course not your idiot you better be glad you had President Obama other wise you would have been on the streets begging for food for you and your family. That is a fact and the world better thank him too. Is he perfect? No. Did President Obama do the right thing? Yes.

                              President Obama 2012

Maybe let's stop blaming one person and blame all the politicians, congress and senate, because they are all to blame. They don't compromise with one another! All they do is fight (like everyone on here). It's about time we stop worrying about rep or dem and start worrying about who is the best presidential candidate. Honestly, I really don't care for either one right now! They both lie and they both bash each other.

Well, let's take a look at another Congressional takeover - Republicans in 2010. You can get the quarterly data from the government website Bureau of Economic Analysis.

                                GDP real growth by quarter

                                2010 Q1 = 2.3%

                                2010 Q2 = 2.2%

                                2010 Q3 = 2.6%

                                2010 Q4 = 2.4%

                                2011 Q1 = 0.1%

Note that the elections were held in Nov, 2010 and the new wave of Republican Congressmen took office in Jan, 2011. The result was an immediate downturn in economic growth! That must have been the Republican's fault! We went from an average quarterly growth of 2.4% to 0.1%!!!

When the Libyan Massacre was over, Clinton spent $70,000.00 on an ad in Pakistan denouncing the home made movie. She of course starred in the ad. Obama and Clinton just cannot bring themselves to the point of calling radical islamist jihadists what they are, COWARDS.

Not to mention the foreign policy blunders of Obama's administration that resulted in the attack's success.

Angelcrusher- I absolutely sympathize for and respect the loss of those families, but they freely and bravely chose careers with the definite possibility of being in harm's way. That said, I am disappointed in this administration's lack of concern for these patriots (an embassy in Libya with a constantly shrinking security force? Are you kidding me?) and then its apparent lack of knowledge of the actual terrorist attack while claiming it was a protest gone wild?! That can not be ignored. That's shameful and shows Obama's inability to be a leader on the world stage.

It took over two years to get the 9/11 hearings and that happened on our soil. Don't you think it might take some time to investigate an incident that happened in a foreign country? One that's only just starting its own government? I dare say no one on this site has the credentials to judge what the proper level of security forces need to be on the ground in a given country. We certainly saw that a contingent of Marines in Lebanon in 1983 made for a terrorist target. Perhaps we were trying to keep our footprint small for that reason. I don't know. And neither do you. And I know for sure Romney doesn't.

Romney did not challenge Mr. Obama leadership. He made mostly phylosophical argument that it's a good idea for Mr. Obama to accept responcibility for the event.

Lucky for us all Mr. Obama agreed to be wrestled to the ground in the 2nd meet up, after Candy Crowley worked the floor with padding... like meter worth of padding...

Keep your toxic slurs away from my posts, if you can.

The only person I praised for serving the benefit of America was Mrs. Candy Crowley.

As for Mr. Romney and Mr. Obama fortunes, Mr. Obama bled to the tune of 15% of national vote in the past 30 days. So, if people sympathetic to Mr. Obama bid feel uneasy, it is understandable.

It's easy to be giddy when things are pleasant. But only real man maintains fair and positive mindset under pressure. And, feel free to dispute, on that account Mr. Romney looks much closer to where we need our President to be.

You can tell the degree to which President Obama beat rom;nuts last night by the percent increase in lies being told on AM radio and by rom;nuts surrogates today. There has been a 100% increase which is saying quite a bit since they through teeth usually. It is precious to see and hear very uninformed John Sununu lift his face from the buffet just long enough to spout off some lies about President Obama. Today, the entire GOP is saying the President didn't say, "ACT OF TERROR" which he clearly DID say in the Rose Garden on Sept. 12 just like he told rom;nuts last night when Obama 'broke his ribs, just like Rocky did to Apollo, with a serious of counter punches to rom;nuts ribs when rom;nuts throw a wild hay maker and MISSED. Normal people are not blind to the transcript and deaf to the videoand only rely on the GOP to tell us. READ the TRANSCRIPT then either accept that rom;nts is wrong or continue to delude yourself.

Actually he did not say ACT of terror he specifically said ANY ACTS of terror so in accordance with the english language and its grammatics there was no specific ACT of terror designated but a compilation of any and all ACTS of terror. THIS IS WHY MOST PEOPLE GO TO SCHOOL TO COMPREHEND WHAT THEY ACTUALLY HEAR.

Well aren't you the special one telling others to learn to comprehend. Particularly since you are clearly too stupid to connect any dots what so ever. Gee, a speech given during a press conference to specifically address the attack in Libya the day after an attack, talking about acts of terror, yet somehow you are too stupid to connect it. I find it hysterical that after 8 years of the Bush administration screaming terror terror terror terrorist terrorist the terror alert goes up the terror alert goes down, Rudy G's 9-11 turrets syndrome that you dimwits suddenly have great difficulty understanding when someone is speaking of terror attacks because it wasn't specific enough for your pea brain to process. So the question is, are you just stupider than a rock or do you actually think your acting like a complete fool is fooling anyone but you? I'm banking on stupid as a rock.

Do you think the families of the 4 Americans killed in Benghazi are "offended" that Romney challenged the President to explain his failure to acknowledge the terrorist attack? Not to mention the foreign policy blunders of Obama's administration that resulted in the attack's success.

yes they are offended and asked rom;nuts to quit politicizing their family members' death. The also stated that the US State Department briefs them daily and that the investigation is being handled in a very professional manner and is going as it should. Rom;nuts has been petty on this issue from Day one. He has tried to politicize their deaths and he has diminished himself as a man to the point where he seems unPatriotic and half-cocked.

I encourage anyone who has the "we should know the answers and everything about what happened in seconds after it happens" mentality should go see the movie ARGO. I came away from this film completely shaken. I was in high school when this happened so I did not know the story for the 6 people, I only knew about the other hostages coming home the day Regan was inaugurated. What I came away with from this movie was, we have NO idea of what is "really" going on, right now this second, NOR SHOULD WE. We need to trust our leaders to tell us if and when it is safe to do so. For Mitt Romney to be mouthing off about what was going on before he had "any" information scares the wits out of me. This man wants to be president for the sake of having the title. He has no respect for the office of President as evidenced by how he treated our current President last night. He is a nasty boss not a president.

You accept the word of Denesh D'Souza, a man born in Mumbai India, over the President of the United States, are you a communist? I can guaran-damn-tee you that D'Souza ain't "the real life nephew of my Uncle Sam", if you know what I mean? Joe Thomas reminds me of Romney in the debate, trying to barge in at every chance. Look at this exchange:

MS. CROWLEY: Mr. President, I got to — I got to move you along. And the next a question is for you —

MR. ROMNEY: No, he — he gets the first — he actually got — he actually got the first question. So I get the last question — last answer on that one.

MS. CROWLEY: If — actually, in the follow-up. It doesn't quite work like that.

                                              MR. ROMNEY: Actually —

MS. CROWLEY: But I'm going to give you a chance here. (Laughter.) I promise you I'm going to.

Wrongme got thoroughly embarrassed, but the funniest thing about it was when Obama saw him heading down that road, and calmly told him to proceed.

EVERYBODY watching that knew that Wrongme was setting himself up. The only clueless person was Wrongme. He kept going full steam ahead, and slammed into reality.

THIS is why this guy is simply not bright enough for the job. Obama handed it to him right there. Classic.

Listen up! All of you independents and undecided voters!

I think a little refresher course in history just may be in order to help all of you make a wise decision on whom to vote for in the coming election!

So, I’ve compiled some very revealing facts about the Republican Party since Ronald Reagan took the oath, and all of you should take these into consideration when making up your minds on whom to vote for.

The lunacy in the GOP started with the Reagan Era, and the GOP would like nothing more, than for all of us to forget their three previous administrations, because all three were filled with nothing but failed policies. And, they know that if the majority of our citizens knew how bad and harmful their policies have been to our country and economy that their chances of ever winning another election would be next too impossible.

Does this sound familiar? "Government is the problem, and Government is Bad.”

From early in Reagan’s presidency’s he started the corrosive distrust of the people’s government and made it a permanent fixture of American politics.

Did you know that Reagan could be considered the Father of the GOP’s fiscal irresponsibility?

Did you know that Reagan was forced to raise taxes at least twice, to avert a financial catastrophe?

Did you know that Reagan caused the national debt to skyrocket during his two terms?

Did you know that Reagan tripled the national debt by the end of his two terms?

Did you know that Reagan’s fiscal irresponsibility equal the entire debt burden produced by the previous 200 years of American history?

In other words, Reagan produced red ink as far as the eye could see!

And, even with the election of George H. Bush, it didn’t stem the flow of red ink.

George H. Bush created a little more than 4 trillion in debt during his presidency.

George H. Bush had to break his famously “read my lips, no new taxes” quote to address the cascading budget shortfalls, and his very own party turned on him, and which probably cost him reelection.

Only with the election of Bill Clinton did the hemorrhaging stop. At the end of Clinton’s presidency no amount of national debt could be attributed to Clinton. Through his policies of higher taxes and reduced spending helped bring about the strongest economy since WWII, and when he left office the CBO had forecasted that if his policies were continued that 5.6 trillion dollar surplus would accrue over the next 10 years.

Then we elected another fiscally irresponsible Republican, and almost from the beginning of George W. Bush presidency he began squandering away the forecasted 5. 6 trillion dollar surplus, because of his 1.4 trillion dollar tax cuts in 2001. George W. Bush.’s second round of tax cuts in 2003 accounted for the doubling of the national debt.

Then you add in 2 unfunded wars, 1 unfunded Prescription Drug Mandate, and his American Dream Downpayment Act, and all of this adds up to is, he took a forecasted 5.6 trillion dollar surplus and turned it into and 11.9 trillion dollar debt! And, it’s all easily verifiable by going to Treasurydirect.gov. And doing the math!

Now, when you read the last portion of this posting keep in mind the first part, because you’ll most definitely see a pattern!

1)Their self-fulfilling prophecy of bad government under Republican leadership, as the Bush recessions of 1991 and 2007, the Hurricane Katrina response, the Iraq catastrophe and the transfer of federal oversight powers to the industries being regulated all showed.

                                                2) And, when the backlash from the American people inevitably comes as it did in 1992 and 2008, attack the very legitimacy of the new Democratic president they elected.

                                                3) Then they turn to the filibuster and other obstructionists’ tactics to block the Democratic agenda, inaction for which the incumbent majority will be blamed.

                                                4) They target the institutions and programs (Social Security, Medicare, the IRS) which form the underpinnings of progressive government.

                                                5) They are smart enough to know that their plan cannot be fully implemented in just a few of their presidencies, and it will take a longer period of time.

                                                6) And, all they do to get ready for the next cycle is, simply lather, rinse and repeat the procedure.

                                                7) This has been the GOP’s Recipe for Successfully Changing America Into the Country of Haves and Have Nots!

                                                Now, remember #2, 3, and 4 above!

From the onset of President Obama’s presidency the GOP has made it very clear that they had no intentions of working with him, even though they had no idea of his plans at the time.

Mitch McConnell said, that their only goal was to make sure that Mr. Obama was a one term President.

The GOP has been on a witch hunt ever since President Obama took office.

Through the GOP’s underhanded tactics have caused this country to have to endure 4 extra years of depression/recession.

The GOP has jeopardized our children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren’s futures by their underhanded tactics.

Then they try and lay blame on President Obama for their contrived fiscal irresponsibilities.

We elected Mr. Obama to try and right the wrongs of the fiscally irresponsible borrow and spend republicans, and as you can see all they’ve done throughout his presidency is to try and keep the country in a depression/recession and by doing so has kept the public in a despondent mood just hoping you all are stupid enough to vote in another one of their fiscal irresponsible candidates!

The Republicans have done everything under the sun to destroy our economy.

And, here is the kicker, just to bring about their version of Capitalism!

This upcoming election boils down to whether we want. . . .

                                                The Right’s version of capitalism, a laissez-faire type of capitalism, whereas. . . .

Capitalism is characterized by free market fundamentalism, where consumers, workers, and families are left on their own, and businesses do whatever they want, with little or no role for government.

Or, do we want the Left’s version of capitalism where society sets the rules and standards of commerce, regarding matters like protecting consumers, employees and the environment from irresponsible business practices, such as excessive pollution, risky oil drilling, predatory and reckless bank lending, unsafe workplaces, food, medicine, cars, and airplanes, minimum wages, and discrimination by race and gender.

                                                It’s as simple as that!

Now, if you want to be a party to their lunacy, then vote for Romney/Ryan to further the destruction of your country!

                                                Or,

If you want to stop this lunacy, then vote for Obama/Biden to resurrect the Middle Class and save your country!

And, always remember, “Those who cannot remember the past, are condemned to repeat it” George Santayana

BTW, Copy this posting, and pass it on, because the truth will set us all Free from the GOP’s Lunacy!

I agree with most of what you have posted here Stonecold, and am a Democrat who is not only voting for the President but actually, for the second time, volunteering my time for him.

In fairness though I have to add one huge black mark against our side---when Bill Clinton was presented with the Gramm/Oxley bill to repeal the Glass/Steagall Act he should have vetoed that POS legislation in less than a nanosecond.

                                                Restore Glass/Steagall NOW!

Actually Stonecold as a person who registered Democrat when I was 18 (1981) and then joined the legion of Reagan Democrats in casting my vote for Reagan in '84 and then briefly changed my affiliation in 2000 to vote for McCain in the Maryland GOP primary (Maryland's GOP allows Indies to vote in their primary) I get exactly where you're coming from.

My vote used to be winnable for the GOP. Had McCain won the nomination in 2000 I would have voted for him over Gore (I preferred Bradley to Gore anyway). But that John McCain would not even recognize the John McCain of 2008 and the one point of the campaign where he actually brought back the old McCain (when he stood up to that crazy woman who called Obama an "Arab") is what the current Republican's resent the most about his bid that year. Truly pathetic.

As long as people like Mitt Romney and John Boehner and Eric Cantor are considered the "rational" Republicans then that party has absolutely nothing that interests me.

Reagan is known for the biggest tax cut in history. He went against his advisors on this. It put the country into a double dip recession.

The next year, he had to sign the biggest tax increase in history. Guess which signing the baggers fondly remember?

Stonecold reminds me of my son's friends (they go to what I consider a liberal university). Its all about a utopian society model where everyone's needs are taking care of by the Government. I had plenty of theory and retoric jammed down my throat in college as well. I have been out in the real world for 28 years now and none of what Stonecold says is grounded in reality. This is a MSNBC blog site so the majority of the people in here are Obama supporters who buy into the evil Rebublican rants. Heck they may even have lifted a couple of talking points from Maddow and Shultz. What people care about is not only having a job, but a career if they so choose. Obama's philosophy is if you are successful and have a lucrative career then you had to have screwed someone to get to where you are so we are going to take more of what you have and give it to someone else who got screwed by the "evil empire". When need less people off the Government dole. Rich people are willing to pay a little more in taxes if they believe the Government will spend it wisely. Instead, all we see is failed policies like the stimulus and investments in "green" companies that have yielded nothing. GM should of gone through a normal bankruptcy without Government intervention. They turned out cars that nobody wanted to buy with union workers who get paid as much as $73/hour (thats with benefits and pensions factored in). Sorry, its a global economy. Where would you want to build your cars? In a Union plant in Detrot with inflexible work rules or a non Union plant in Spartansburg, SC. The Romney vision is the right path. Lower taxes to give people more money in their pocket to spend, broaden the tax base by putting more people back to work in high paying jobs, cut regulations to stop strangling company start-ups, revise Obamacare by giving more power to the states to shape their own plan, put in the Keystone pipeline, open up drilling permits on Government land. This is what we need to do TODAY. Over 62% of the federal budget is entitlements. Sorry, but seniors are going to have to live with a cap on Medicare. We can't have a system where we take in $109,000 per person and can spend up to $314,000 per person. Once you live and work in the real world, all of these things become self evident.

Those who love liars and lying are crying in their beer and pretending that Romney told the truth. How depressing that reality punched them in the nose. Nazis never sank as emotionally low as the lying class of idiots does when exposed. They lack the military might to enforce their lies.

Cocky, condescending and soulless Mitt thought Obama and voters were easy to dispose of with stupid lies. Never measure the net worth of a man in dollars, Mitt. You don't amount to anything in politics but an offensive Republican buffoon. Lying in John McCain's face got you nowhere either.

Stick with the easily herded Republican base and you begin to imagine that you are smart instead of noticing that they are just ignorant, not stupid. They would vote for a Republican chimpanzee after years of indoctrination, dogma, propaganda, pandering, and lies.

Clear Channel is owned by Bain. This is the radio network that brings you Rush, Hannity, O'Reilly, and Bortz. Do you think Bain would stand by and let 'fair and balanced' news come out? They must have almost gagged this morning when they had to report better employment numbers for Georgia. The alternative is called dead air space in radio, because there is no bad news to report in the last few months.

Unemployment down, foreclosures down, housing starts up, housing prices up.

You can't really make political hay out of that unless it is your policies that are doing the job.

Starderup....housing starts are up but only in certain pockets of the US. GDP is what we should be focusing on and Romney was correct, the economy is growing more slowly this year than the previous year. No matter what you and pundits like Maddow and Shultz say, what Obama tried to do hasn't worked and never will because his background and beliefs are all rooted in theory and his misguided view of patriotism. Governors make good presidents (I liked Clinton) because they have learned to get things done you need to reach across the aisle to develop workable solutions AND they have actually run something. Obama has been and always will be a divider. Everyone agrees he is clueless on what makes the economy run. Like Joe Pesci's character in the movie Casino said "This guy would F — — — up a cup of coffee". Pretty accurate description of Obama's job performance to date.

It's really getting old having a right wing clown giving everyone a blow by blow account of the election. Of coarse anyone who breathes air and doesn't have their head up Rushes arse knows that just because you say something over and over and want it to come true really bad doesn't make it magically happen. I hope when Robme loses you don't harm yourself out of despair, wait on second thought. I've slept good at night the last four years knowing there isn't a right wing clown in the white house!

Are people so shallow there they will believe lies and change their vote. it concerns me rather than Fox News playing what the President said in the Rose Garden they chose to LIE TOO! He said no acts of terror will go either unchallenged or whatever word. But he he said acts of terror. And I saw FOX NEWS LYING. Who is paying them to get people to vote for Romney???? It is bad when a journalist has to correct a liar or in that instance someone trying to take a situation like Libya and score political points and it is worse when Fox News collaborates with the liar. Obama is saying read the transcript and then the tape is played and Fox News still HAS THE GALL TO LIE! And you can't really say anything on Fox News website because of retributions. Computer being attacked is retribution. Thankfully I had a good virus protectio etc. Some people just don't have a computer now.

We do know that Sheldon Adelson and the Koch brothers have invested millions in this hostile takeover. They are going to protect their investment. The next few weeks will see an escalation in this type of tactic.

Clear Channel (a Bain company) is also ratcheting up the rhetoric. They have Rush coming on for THREE HOURS every day blaring out anti-Obama propaganda like Tokyo Rose. The weak minded eagerly accept his lies, because it is sure a lot easier than thinking for themselves.

Fox 'news' is another animal entirely. I don't know who is behind that one, but they sure aren't fair OR balanced.

Again and again courts and lawmakers have affirmed the right of politicians to lie. Citizens who applaud Obama's lies to declare he “won”, have made lying a necessity.

Given the political advantage of telling lies to a naïve public, don't expect any politician to stop lying! The candidate that tells only the truth, will lose. This will remain true either until our lawmakers stop treating themselves like a privileged elite ruling class, or lying produces a political disadvantage. That is to say, we better just get used to it and start finding the truth for ourselves.

This Obama speech explains why reelecting Obama condemns this country to suicide by Obama. Take notice of the word "DEBT" and how Obama explains its peril to our nation, our economy.

The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies.

And the cost of our debt is one of the fastest growing expenses in the Federal budget. This rising debt is a hidden domestic enemy, robbing our cities and States of critical investments in infrastructure like bridges, ports, and levees; robbing our families and our children of critical investments in education and health care reform; robbing our seniors of the retirement and health security they have counted on.

Every dollar we pay in interest is a dollar that is not going to investment in America’s priorities. Instead, interest payments are a significant tax on all Americans–a debt tax that Washington doesn’t want to talk about. If Washington were serious about honest tax relief in this country, we would see an effort to reduce our national debt by returning to responsible fiscal policies.

Increasing America’s debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that “the buck stops here. Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.

I therefore intend to oppose the effort to increase America’s debt limit.

Sen. Barack Hussein Obama, Jr., (Senate – March 16, 2006)

With Obama reducing the deficit $207 billion while adding $1.8 trillion to the national debt in the same time period ,this is explained as what kind of leadership in the above speech?

Obama's own words tell us that reelecting Obama condemns this country to suicide by Obama.

Show me a fox poll, or any giving Ohio to Romney- ain't happening. That's why the recons are pissed, I'd be pissed too if Ohio was polling for Romney. Worse, Romney has to take Florida too. Yep. Jobs are growing like crazy. 200,000 net gain in 4 years. AMAZING!

Unemployment, under-employment, misery index, housing starts, foreclosures, inflation, GDP, debt, deficit, gas prices, oil prices, food stamp usage, food prices, labor participation rates, real unemployment, youth unemployment, have ALL gotten worse under Obama.

And still we have self-deluding left-wingers (is that redundant?) claiming that things are better now. Bizarre!

                                                          @ Kannin

All my kids are working even my grandchildren going to collage and those still in high school are working. Romney said last night "Government doesn't create jobs!" He said that in response to President Obama's claim he is creating jobs now. So how is it if Government can't create jobs he claims he can create 12 million? Like the Democrats/liberals you only hear what you want to hear also. Where is the compromise?

Confussed - First, it sounds like you are justifiably proud of your kids and grand kids. They were raised right! Second, 7.8% unemployment means 92.2% employment, so it isn't all that surprising that they would have found work if they wanted it. Third, I believe that "Government doesn't create jobs!" is just a shorthand way of saying that government workers are paid for by money earned by hard-working taxpayers like your family. Fourth, I believe Romney was saying that if government creates an environment supportive of civilian business, then those businesses will be successful and hire 12 million more workers.

@kannin...Hogwash. 12 million jobs by Romney's policies? Hogwash! This is the same fairy dust trickle down that has worked for the past years 2002 through 2008? Bush in-acted this cra+p in 2002. How did that work for us? The GOP trickle down theory is fertilizer.

The tactic of accusing anyone who disagrees with you of being a racist has been so overused that it has ceased to have any meaning at all. That horse has been dead so long that continuing to beat on it just makes it stink worse. Its time to pull yourself out of the hypersensitive past and come up with some real arguments to bolster your point of view.

The second-place dead horse is blaming Bush for Obama's failures.

"Republicans" are EXTINCT. Only TeaPartier-types still claim the appellation. We have only "I'm an Independent"'s now, because saying that you are a "Republican" does two things for you:

One, it allows the Tea Party to say (or viciously attack) what comes out of your mouth.

And two, it I.D,'s you as somebody who got hood-winked by Sarah Palin.
