Obama: Romney 'running around talking like he's Mr. Coal'

Updated 10:07 a.m. - ATHENS, OH – Energized by a huge crowd and, likely, his improved debate performance against Mitt Romney Tuesday night, President Barack Obama went on an extended riff during remarks here about what he said was Romney’s inauthentic support for coal energy.

Noting that Romney praised coal during the debate at Hofstra University, Obama pointed out that as governor of Massachusetts, Romney appeared in front of a coal factory to criticize its high level of toxic pollution, saying, “that plant kills people.”

Obama said voters should be skeptical of Romney’s embrace of coal, mocking him as “running around talking like he’s Mr. Coal,” as a crowd of 14,000 at Ohio University cheered him on.

“Does anybody ever actually look at that guy and think, man, he’s really into coal?” Obama asked the audience as he chuckled.

Obama then brought up an ad, released earlier this week, that showed Romney speaking to workers at an Ohio coal mine, saying the workers in the ad were forced to attend the August Romney event – which the mining company and some of the workers have refuted.

“Did you see when he was doing that ad, he was in front of all those guys – all these miners with hard hats. Find out later they had to come. Boss made them come. Come on, gotta be on the level if you want to be the president of the United States!” he exclaimed.

The Romney campaign responded to the president's remarks in Athens by releasing a statement from spokeswoman Amanda Henneberg. "“As we approach Election Day, President Obama’s rhetoric and personal attacks will not mask a failed record that has left middle-class families hurting.  Under this President, permits for drilling on federal lands have declined, over one hundred coal-fired plants are schedule to close by the end of the year, and gas prices have more than doubled.  Mitt Romney has an all of the above energy strategy, which will create millions of jobs and put our nation on a course toward North American energy independence by 2020.”

Obama returned to the White House on Wednesday night. He heads to New Hampshire Thursday before taping "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" in New York City.

OBAMA IS A LIAR!!:

Mitch Miracle, spokesman for the miners, read aloud the two letters they had written and signed.

The letter to Obama read like this:

Dear President Obama:.

We are writing as the employees of American Energy Century Mine in Beallsville, Ohio. You have approved in a running television campaign ads about the Mitt Romney event that was held at our Century coal mine. These ads state that we were forced to attend this rally and that is blatantly false. There are numerous false statements and absolute lies concerning our participation in this event, we, the employees, mostly started by a local shock jock host. Since your approval is attached to these ads, you may not wish to support these mistruths. Why would you lie about the 500 working miners who have signed this letter? We, the employees of Century Mine, would request you immediately stop these false ads. Thank you. Century Mine employees.

The letter to Bloomquist read:

Mr. Bloomquist;

We are writing to you regarding the Governor Mitt Romney event held on August 14, 2012 at the American Energy Corporation Century mine, and additionally what it meant to the hourly employees to host a presidential candidate that we believe in and endorse. We voluntarily and enthusiastically attended the event and take great offense to the disingenuous reporting of the event by you and other media outlets.

There are 5 points in particular that I want to make here: the following are a list of facts about the hourly employees’ involvement at that event and the corrections to the media’s inaccurate reporting:

One: we want to make it very clear that no employee was forced to attend the event. Secondly, there were no attendance records taken for hourly employees. Number three, there are absolutely no penalties or reprimands to those who did not attend- we voluntarily attended. Number 4, due to security reasons, the only list involved whatsoever was for transportation purposes, and this was thoroughly explained to us; this had to be done by the advance team of Mr. Romney. They had to have records of who was coming on the property. Number 5; it was an honor to host this important event for Governor Romney.

Your so-called sources have made accusations against our company yet remain unnamed. We have proudly signed our names to this statement. These so-called sources are likely discharged or disgruntled former employees. This was a great day, for the employees of American energy, and your negative one-sided reporting has created a disservice to our company and to us, the employees.

You see, Mr. Bloomquist, there is a war on coal and we do want to protect our jobs. Mining jobs are being eliminated and coal fired power plants are being shut down from the President Obama’s actions and policies. We, the undersigned, support Governor Romney and reject President Obama and those like Sherrod Brown who are job killers. In summary, we, the employees of AEC, these great men behind me, our spouses, our children, our parents and our grandparents thoroughly enjoyed this event, a once in a lifetime event, right here, in the Ohio Valley. This is our statement, our choices, and our signatures. Mr. Bloomquist, your shock-jock tactics offend the undersigned, and I have attached our employees and our signatures.

Miracle eloquently concluded:

In closing, standing behind me are proud Americans, proud coal miners proud citizens of this great country, proud members of the Ohio Valley, where we live in and I am damn proud of them. Proud Ohio Valley workers. As you all know the economy has been tough for all of us; this is a great profession, these are great workers and we are proud to be a part of it, part of Murray Energy and we support our owner 100 percent. We ask that the media, let’s embrace coal, embrace what it does for all of us. Let’s be together in what we do.

You don’t have to be a coal miner to stand up and cheer for these men fighting for the truth. You just have to be a real American.

Romney had his chance to at least come out with support for the equal pay LL bill, but instead he lied and made up a story that HE reached out to Women's groups, as Governor..... Women don't like being lied to!

In the next debate I hope that 170 jobs being outsourced to China by Bain in Freeport Ill, comes out the workers have literally been begging for help from Romney! But he doesn't care!

No talk about Libya huh Romney? Even though the families had asked you and Ryan to stop trying making political points off of the tragedy. Well you made a fool out of yourself, and we are all glad karma is a bitch!

Can't sit down cause you got spanked Romney!

Hummingbird: I am female and I think the only liar I watched last night is Obama. I don't need to vote " like my female parts depend on it" I need to vote for the most competent candidate who presents a plan and that would not be Oblunder. I need a POTUS I can trust to tell the Nation the truth, not blame everyone and his dog for his shortcomings, not fan the flames of racial and class warfare. I don't need a POTUS who has no idea of what he's doing and furthermore doesn't really care what financial cliff he is driving the U.S. off of. And your closing statement about karma- I think the only bitch is you. Get a rabies shot.

Listen up! All of you independents and undecided voters!

I think a little refresher course in history just may be in order to help all of you make a wise decision on whom to vote for in the coming election!

So, I’ve compiled some very revealing facts about the Republican Party since Ronald Reagan took the oath, and all of you should take these into consideration when making up your minds on whom to vote for.

The lunacy in the GOP started with the Reagan Era, and the GOP would like nothing more, than for all of us to forget their three previous administrations, because all three were filled with nothing but failed policies. And, they know that if the majority of our citizens knew how bad and harmful their policies have been to our country and economy that their chances of ever winning another election would be next too impossible.

Does this sound familiar? "Government is the problem, and Government is Bad.”

From early in Reagan’s presidency’s he started the corrosive distrust of the people’s government and made it a permanent fixture of American politics.

Did you know that Reagan could be considered the Father of the GOP’s fiscal irresponsibility?

Did you know that Reagan was forced to raise taxes at least twice, to avert a financial catastrophe?

Did you know that Reagan caused the national debt to skyrocket during his two terms?

Did you know that Reagan tripled the national debt by the end of his two terms?

Did you know that Reagan’s fiscal irresponsibility equal the entire debt burden produced by the previous 200 years of American history?

In other words, Reagan produced red ink as far as the eye could see!

And, even with the election of George H. Bush, it didn’t stem the flow of red ink.

George H. Bush created a little more than 4 trillion in debt during his presidency.

George H. Bush had to break his famously “read my lips, no new taxes” quote to address the cascading budget shortfalls, and his very own party turned on him, and which probably cost him reelection.

Only with the election of Bill Clinton did the hemorrhaging stop. At the end of Clinton’s presidency no amount of national debt could be attributed to Clinton. Through his policies of higher taxes and reduced spending helped bring about the strongest economy since WWII, and when he left office the CBO had forecasted that if his policies were continued that 5.6 trillion dollar surplus would accrue over the next 10 years.

Then we elected another fiscally irresponsible Republican, and almost from the beginning of George W. Bush presidency he began squandering away the forecasted 5. 6 trillion dollar surplus, because of his 1.4 trillion dollar tax cuts in 2001. George W. Bush.’s second round of tax cuts in 2003 accounted for the doubling of the national debt.

Then you add in 2 unfunded wars, 1 unfunded Prescription Drug Mandate, and his American Dream Downpayment Act, and all of this adds up to is, he took a forecasted 5.6 trillion dollar surplus and turned it into and 11.9 trillion dollar debt! And, it’s all easily verifiable by going to Treasurydirect.gov. And doing the math!

Now, when you read the last portion of this posting keep in mind the first part, because you’ll most definitely see a pattern!

1)Their self-fulfilling prophecy of bad government under Republican leadership, as the Bush recessions of 1991 and 2007, the Hurricane Katrina response, the Iraq catastrophe and the transfer of federal oversight powers to the industries being regulated all showed.

2) And, when the backlash from the American people inevitably comes as it did in 1992 and 2008, attack the very legitimacy of the new Democratic president they elected.

3) Then they turn to the filibuster and other obstructionists’ tactics to block the Democratic agenda, inaction for which the incumbent majority will be blamed.

4) They target the institutions and programs (Social Security, Medicare, the IRS) which form the underpinnings of progressive government.

5) They are smart enough to know that their plan cannot be fully implemented in just a few of their presidencies, and it will take a longer period of time.

6) And, all they do to get ready for the next cycle is, simply lather, rinse and repeat the procedure.

7) This has been the GOP’s Recipe for Successfully Changing America Into the Country of Haves and Have Nots!

Now, remember #2, 3, and 4 above!

From the onset of President Obama’s presidency the GOP has made it very clear that they had no intentions of working with him, even though they had no idea of his plans at the time.

Mitch McConnell said, that their only goal was to make sure that Mr. Obama was a one term President.

The GOP has been on a witch hunt ever since President Obama took office.

Through the GOP’s underhanded tactics have caused this country to have to endure 4 extra years of depression/recession.

The GOP has jeopardized our children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren’s futures by their underhanded tactics.

Then they try and lay blame on President Obama for their contrived fiscal irresponsibilities.

We elected Mr. Obama to try and right the wrongs of the fiscally irresponsible borrow and spend republicans, and as you can see all they’ve done throughout his presidency is to try and keep the country in a depression/recession and by doing so has kept the public in a despondent mood just hoping you all are stupid enough to vote in another one of their fiscal irresponsible candidates!

The Republicans have done everything under the sun to destroy our economy.

And, here is the kicker, just to bring about their version of Capitalism!

This upcoming election boils down to whether we want. . . .

The Right’s version of capitalism, a laissez-faire type of capitalism, whereas. . . .

Capitalism is characterized by free market fundamentalism, where consumers, workers, and families are left on their own, and businesses do whatever they want, with little or no role for government.

Or, do we want the Left’s version of capitalism where society sets the rules and standards of commerce, regarding matters like protecting consumers, employees and the environment from irresponsible business practices, such as excessive pollution, risky oil drilling, predatory and reckless bank lending, unsafe workplaces, food, medicine, cars, and airplanes, minimum wages, and discrimination by race and gender.

It’s as simple as that!

Now, if you want to be a party to their lunacy, then vote for Romney/Ryan to further the destruction of your country!

Or,

If you want to stop this lunacy, then vote for Obama/Biden to resurrect the Middle Class and save your country!

And, always remember, “Those who cannot remember the past, are condemned to repeat it” George Santayana

BTW, Copy this posting, and pass it on, because the truth will set us all Free from the GOP’s Lunacy!

I don't know about Mr. Coal but I do know that this administration has selected Salam al-Marayati Muslim Public Affairs Council founder to be part of the U.S. delegation to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe forum in Poland.

He has been quoted as saying “The United States has done a lot of dirty work that has served the interests of Israel," al-Marayati said in January. "It destroyed Iraq. It supported the destruction and crippling of Egypt. It has crippled the Gulf. And now, it is looking to Iran as the next target for crippling and destroying. Who is driving our foreign policy -‑ President Obama or Prime Minister Netanyahu?"

You guys need to remember who you blindly support and defend.

Obama attacked his opponent more, failed to give direct answers more, and pandered to the crowd more.... just like any con-man does when trying to endear himself to those he hopes to swindle.

Romney won on everything related to leadership.

"Mitt Romney was seen as better able to handle the economy, taxes, and the budget deficit among the debate audience, but it seems that issues were trumped, or at least blunted, by intangibles, including the expectations game," says CNN Polling Director Keating Holland.

By a 49%-35% margin, debate watchers thought that Obama spent more time attacking his opponent. The president was expected to be more forceful in attacking Romney following his lackluster performance in the first presidential debate in Denver two weeks ago.

Other questions showed little daylight between the two candidates among debate watchers on some key characteristics. Romney had a 49%-46% edge on which candidate seemed to be the stronger leader and 45%-43% margin on who answered questions more directly, while Obama had a 44%-40% advantage on which man seemed to care more about the audience members who asked questions."

This Obama speech explains why reelecting Obama condemns this country to suicide by Obama. Take notice of the word "DEBT" and how Obama explains its peril to our nation, our economy.

The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies.

And the cost of our debt is one of the fastest growing expenses in the Federal budget. This rising debt is a hidden domestic enemy, robbing our cities and States of critical investments in infrastructure like bridges, ports, and levees; robbing our families and our children of critical investments in education and health care reform; robbing our seniors of the retirement and health security they have counted on.

Every dollar we pay in interest is a dollar that is not going to investment in America’s priorities. Instead, interest payments are a significant tax on all Americans–a debt tax that Washington doesn’t want to talk about. If Washington were serious about honest tax relief in this country, we would see an effort to reduce our national debt by returning to responsible fiscal policies.

Increasing America’s debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that “the buck stops here. Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.

I therefore intend to oppose the effort to increase America’s debt limit.

Sen. Barack Hussein Obama, Jr., (Senate – March 16, 2006)

With Obama reducing the deficit $207 billion while adding $1.8 trillion to the national debt in the same time period ,this is explained as what kind of leadership in the above speech?

Obama's own words tell us that reelecting Obama condemns this country to suicide by Obama.

    gustifer

If I'm out of touch, then what does that make you. The deficit has been over a trillion each of the past 4 years. The national debt was increased over 6 trillion in less than 4 years. Our government was gong to shut down on August 2, 2011 when the national dept was $14.2 trillion. The government was going to shut down on October 1, 2012 when the national debt reached $16.7 trillion. Our government is set up to shut down on March 1, 2013 unless the debt limits are raised again.

Obama hired Bush's economic adviser Bernanke and has stayed the Bush economic course on steroids with bailouts, stimulus and tax cuts to the rich.

Obama says he want to stay the Bush economic course that we have seen is destroying our economy in Obama's first 4 years. Record high number 46.37 million American receiving food stamps is not a sign of recovery, is it? So I must ask you; are you nuts?

The president was respectful toward Romney in the first debate. He avoided rudeness and talking down the moderator like Romney did all evening. That didn't work very well for the president so in the second debate he came out swinging and gave Romney the respect he deserved. That worked much better. I wonder if coal miners know, Romney, as Governor ordered a coal burning power plant to close because he said, "it kills."..........Romney can try though he may to be all things to all people, but you can only fool some of the people, some of the time.
