Obama: Romney 'running around talking like he's Mr. Coal'

Updated 10:07 a.m. - ATHENS, OH – Energized by a huge crowd and, likely, his improved debate performance against Mitt Romney Tuesday night, President Barack Obama went on an extended riff during remarks here about what he said was Romney’s inauthentic support for coal energy.

Noting that Romney praised coal during the debate at Hofstra University, Obama pointed out that as governor of Massachusetts, Romney appeared in front of a coal factory to criticize its high level of toxic pollution, saying, “that plant kills people.”

Obama said voters should be skeptical of Romney’s embrace of coal, mocking him as “running around talking like he’s Mr. Coal,” as a crowd of 14,000 at Ohio University cheered him on.

“Does anybody ever actually look at that guy and think, man, he’s really into coal?” Obama asked the audience as he chuckled.

Obama then brought up an ad, released earlier this week, that showed Romney speaking to workers at an Ohio coal mine, saying the workers in the ad were forced to attend the August Romney event – which the mining company and some of the workers have refuted.

“Did you see when he was doing that ad, he was in front of all those guys – all these miners with hard hats. Find out later they had to come. Boss made them come. Come on, gotta be on the level if you want to be the president of the United States!” he exclaimed.

The Romney campaign responded to the president's remarks in Athens by releasing a statement from spokeswoman Amanda Henneberg. "“As we approach Election Day, President Obama’s rhetoric and personal attacks will not mask a failed record that has left middle-class families hurting.  Under this President, permits for drilling on federal lands have declined, over one hundred coal-fired plants are schedule to close by the end of the year, and gas prices have more than doubled.  Mitt Romney has an all of the above energy strategy, which will create millions of jobs and put our nation on a course toward North American energy independence by 2020.”

Obama returned to the White House on Wednesday night. He heads to New Hampshire Thursday before taping "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" in New York City.

Obama is not against coal and oil. What he is against is mindlessly rushing into drilling and mining without doing the proper research and without thinking of the consequences, which is what the Republicans are want to do.

When it comes to responsible drilling and clean coal, Obama has actually expanded drilling and production more than his predecessors.

You notice the romney campaign did not challenge the accusation of the miner ad and the coal plant quote. They merely went on to describe obama's faults, there was no facts to refute obamas statements I guess.

Cameron, new permits for drilling on government land are down substantially since Obama came into office. Production may be up on the wells that are there now but all wells run dry after a while and this is where we will get into trouble. Like all liberals you take the info that suits your purpose and broadcast it but leave out the stuff that doesn't make your side look good. Obama's energy secretary is on record many times saying that he thinks $8.00 a gallon gas like in europe is a good thing. Wake up!!!!!!!!

Last debate for the loser in cheif coming up Monday. Benghazi-gate will be front and center once again. China, Venezuela, North Korea, Iran. All great topics for Obama to try and defend himself, and Hillary on.

Deepwater Permits in U.S. Gulf Exceed Pre-BP Spill Level
                  (BLOOMBERG)By Kasia Klimasinska - Oct 16, 2012 9:00 PM PT

The Obama administration has issued this year the most deep-water oil-drilling permits for the Gulf of Mexico since 2007 as high crude prices revive exploration slowed by the 2010 BP Plc (BP/) spill.

On May 30, 2010 a 6 month moratorium on all deepwater offshore drilling on the Outer Continental Shelf was declared by U.S. Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar. The limitation was in response to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill which occurred in the Gulf of Mexico.

Yes, GOP Zombie-because a moratorium was in effect to investigate safety practices coincided with the restructuring of the former Minerals Management Service (MMS) Federal agency, things slowed down for Gulf Permitting for awhile.

An explosion on the drilling rig Deepwater Horizon occurred on April 20, 2010, killing 11 workers. The Deepwater Horizon sank on April 22, 2010, in water approximately 5,000 feet (1,500 m) deep, and was located resting on the seafloor approximately 1,300 feet (400 m) (about a quarter of a mile) northwest of the well

When the new political ad of the group of miners from Century Mine in Ohio is aired, and that will be soon, this will make a difference in the polls in Ohio. The miners sent the letter asking Obama to pull the ad. The POTUS failed to do that and the miners are still upset. They were not forced to attend any Romney function nor were they threatened by anyone that they would lose their jobs. The new ad being released by the miners accuses the POTUS of lies. Coal miners don't like liars. Obama will not win in Ohio.

C'mon folks - try to focus on the real issues....

Total federal and state "welfare" spending topped $1 trillion last year, roughly one-fifth of the US budget, and marking a nearly 30 percent increase since the start of the Obama administration -- according to a new congressional report which documented spending across more than 80 benefit programs for low-income families.

The Congressional Research Service study stats show that the combination of federal and state "welfare" spending is more than the country spends on Medicare, Social Security or non-war defense, and called the figures "astounding."

No longer should we measure compassion by how much money the government spends but by how many people we help to rise out of poverty. Welfare assistance should be seen as temporary whenever possible, and the goal must be to help more of our fellow citizens attain gainful employment and financial independence.

Four More Years - no more welfare.

                          Obamanomics at work......

I have given this post the headline "Senate Unanimously Rejects A Budget Offered By Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.)" at the suggestion of Michael Brendan Dougherty of Business Insider, who correctly notes that the news cycle is going to remember this bit of legislative maneuvering very differently, and characterize it as a defeat for some "Obama Budget." As Dougherty correctly reports:

Just as they did in March in the House of Representatives, Republicans forced a vote on a bill that was supposed to resemble the president's budget, but wasn't actually the president's budget. A Republican Senator submitted it, and called for the vote.

Misrepresentation seems define the GOP Zombie's favorite camouflage trick. It is hard to consider GOP Alarmist Propaganda coming from a source that seems inherently disingenuous. What is even more disturbing is the frequency with which the GOP engages in deceitful and felonious practices-that are paid for by the Taxpayer as normal due course of business for it's elected members.

Today, 50 percent of the electricity generated in the U.S. comes from coal. Total electricity demand is
expected to grow by 39 percent by 2030, at which time, coal will account for 57 percent of our electricity
generation. Coal is expected to remain the lowest-cost source of electricity for the foreseeable future.

Clean coal technologies available today for retrofit eliminate up to 95 percent of a plant’s sulfur
dioxide and 90 percent of nitrogen oxides

FutureGen 2.0 is a first-of-its-kind, near-zero emissions coal-fueled power plant. In cooperation with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), the FutureGen 2.0 project partners will upgrade a power plant in Meredosia, Ill. with oxy-combustion technology to capture approximately 1.3 million tonnes of CO2 each year—more than 90 percent of the plant’s carbon emissions.

Other emissions will be reduced to near-zero levels. Using safe and proven pipeline technology, the CO2 will be transported and stored underground at a nearby storage site, which will also include a CCS visitors center and research and training facilities.

Secretary Chu made today's announcement on a conference call with Governor Joe Manchin, Senator Jay Rockefeller, and President of American Electric Power Company, Inc., Mike Morris. These projects will help to enable commercial deployment to ensure the United States has clean, reliable, and affordable electricity and power. An investment of up to $979 million, including funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, will be leveraged by more than $2.2 billion in private capital cost share as part of the third round of the Department's Clean Coal Power Initiative (CCPI).

Coo coo ka Chu: | President Barack Obama's Secretary of Energy Stephen Chu uttered the kind of Washington gaffe that consists of telling the truth when inconvenient. According to Politico, Chu admitted to a House committee that the administration is not interested in lowering gas prices.
Chu, along with the Obama administration, regards the spike in gas prices as a feature rather than a bug. High gas prices provide an incentive for alternate energy technology, a priority for the White House, and a decrease in reliance on oil for energy. Wed, Feb 29, 2012..

GOP Zombie this should cheer you up

The House voted 219 to 212 to approve the measure, with every Republican voting no.

The question is as follows: How can an entire staff of public servants (GOP Zombies) vote NO unless they had ample exposure to the subject of the vote? Are you implying that the GOP Zombies just vote NO because the words are too big? Or is it because the Supreme Court upholds Obamacare 5-4.

The later is correct which of course was a required ruling to address GOP Zombie allegations and night-sweats over concerns their Viagra prescriptions might be adversely affected.

Even funnier than Romney claiming to be Mr. Coal is Obama claiming to be Mr. Clean Coal durng the debate. LOL. Libs have always laughed at the notion of clean coal. Even after their global warming guy at NASA James Hansen wrote a letter to Obama in 2009 suggesting that he concentrate on clean coal, the left hated the idea, probably because it's our largest energy resource and they have to kill it to bring the country to its knees. You libs better not laugh at clean coal anymore now that your man is its leading advocate.

Hell, if his people told him he could win if he would throw $hit in his mother's face he'd do it. OK, maybe that's a tad extreme, but not by much. I'll guarantee you one thing for absolute certainty. He'd think about it.

For the first three years, Obama said marriage is between a man and a woman. For the first three years, Obama laughed at the idea of such a thing as clean coal. He said he would be Mr. Deficit Cutter. He said the Patriot Act was afront to civil liberties. Obama said he wouldn't take any PAC money. What changed? Oh yeah, election time.

All anyone needs to know is that Obama is on video in 2008 saying that his energy policy will necessarily make electricity rates skyrocket. One, who can afford triple or quadruple electricity rates? Two, why would they go up this much? Because Obama plans to kill coal plants. Remember he also said that you would go bankrupt trying to build a new coal plant with him as president. These remarks Obama made are readily available but the media won't mention them. I just find it amusing that those who claim to be middle class would consider voting for Obama when his policies are going to hurt the middle class the most through rising energy costs which filter through ALL segments of the economy as well. It is why food is higher for one thing. Just astounds me how little people actually think about what Obama has said and believe the glowing campaign BS he spews forth.

Right now when I see Obama strutting up on stage and moving his head around and has that stupid gotcha smirk, all I can think of is Richard Pryor scene in the movie, Stir Crazy, saying,"yep we bad we bad." As for his side kick, Biden, all I envision is the southern lawyer scene in the movie, My Cousin Vinny, when he is trying to convince the jury of Ralph Macchio character's guilt with his clapping of the hands together and change of tone in his speech for dramatic flair in his speech....I don't get either of them trying to demean Gov Romney....perhaps the both of them are trying to prepare for new careers once they get kicked out from the Oval office...I applaud any candiate whether Republican or Democrat who keep their dignity intact during trying and difficult campaigns as well as sticking to the serious problems at hand....leave the jokes and posing to the comedians, actors, musicians because that is what they get paid for or for that the matter the drama to the teenagers and toddlers who use it as a way to get attention when they have been punished for doing something they know is wrong...As for you Mr. Obama and Biden, you are getting paid for representing our country and trying to solve issues not for appearing on talk shows....

During his eight years in office, President Bush oversaw a large increase in government spending. In fact, President Bush increased government spending more than any of the six presidents preceding him, including LBJ. In his last term in office, President Bush increased discretionary outlays by an estimated 48.6 percent.

During his eight years in office, President Bush spent almost twice as much as his predecessor, President Clinton. Adjusted for inflation, in eight years, President Clinton increased the federal budget by 11 percent. In eight years, President Bush increased it by a whopping 104 percent.

One reason offered for these large budget increases is that entitlement programs are growing rapidly. Although Social Security and Medicare spending growth outpaced most other programs in the mid-1990s, spending growth in discretionary programs has accelerated in the last 15 years, especially during Bush’s two terms. Between FY2002 and FY2009, discretionary spending rose 96 percent.

Massachusetts had a net job growth of 1.4 percent under Romney. However, that was far slower growth than the national average of 5.3 percent. As Romney’s opponents have frequently, and correctly, noted, Massachusetts ranked 47th in job growth over the entirety of Romney’s term. The only states that did worse: Louisiana, Michigan and Ohio.

It was clear that the ambition of the President and the nation for that fact is to move toward cleaner sources of energy. This transition is going to take decades and must take into consideration the costs involved. I don't agree with setting unreasonable mandates because it takes to long to build new facilities or retrofit old ones.

The Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement (PEIS) for solar energy development provides a blueprint for utility-scale solar energy permitting in Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico and Utah by establishing solar energy zones with access to existing or planned transmission, incentives for development within those zones, and a process through which to consider additional zones and solar projects.

This National Offshore Wind Strategy will guide DOE as it expands its ongoing efforts through the Offshore Wind Innovation and Demonstration (OSWInD) initiative to promote and accelerate responsible commercial offshore wind development in the U.S. in both federal and state waters.

As the agency with primary jurisdiction over reviewing and approving offshore wind projects in federal waters, the Department of the Interior (DOI) is a crucial partner in implementing this National Offshore Wind Strategy and ensuring the creation of a robust and environmentally responsible offshore wind energy industry in the U.S. Over the past two years, DOI has developed a regulatory framework to review proposed offshore wind projects in federal waters and recently launched the Smart from the Start initiative to facilitate siting, leasing, and construction of new projects.

This National Offshore Wind Strategy incorporates elements of that initiative and illustrates the commitment of DOE and DOI to work together to spur the rapid and responsible development of offshore wind energy.

High gas prices provide an incentive for alternate energy technology, a priority for the White House, and a decrease in reliance on oil for energy. Wed, Feb 29, 2012..

In 2011, American oil production reached the highest level in nearly a decade and natural gas production reached an all-time high. In addition, in response to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, the Obama Administration has launched the most aggressive and comprehensive reforms to offshore oil and gas regulation and oversight in U.S. history to ensure that our nation can safely and responsibly expand development of offshore energy resources. The Administration is also taking steps to ensure we can safely develop our vast supplies of domestic natural gas.

lethargic brooding about they're state of being projected upon any unsuspecting bystanders-

                                                                                                    poor mental capacities and hygiene-

possibly the worst characteristic GOP Zombie Hordes are predictable and boring!-

...but I digress, GOP Zombies and their Puppet Masters tribulations and reticent learning capacities are a waste of valuable resources.

I'm fully aware of the dynamics of the global energy market but I still find it troubling that the O administration cares more about their agenda than the economy. His friends have been getting very rich off my tax dollars. You sound intelligent but belittle yourself with the GOP Zombie bit in every post...

                                                                                                        #152.9 - Thu Oct 18, 2012 5:37 PM EDT

soazDan -60% is paid for by private industry.

Gosh Co-Ventures because private industry doesn't like R&D costs or annual raises for employees etc. (of course this doesn't seem to be a deterrent everywhere else in the world) ...Which in return benefits from the R&D and technology transition to commercialization often leveraged to the edge of the solar system.

I question the percentage because 100% of government revenue is acquired on behalf of the collective and whose actives return to the same collective. Which is why GOP Zombie protests, sobbing and procreative obsolescence is so unfair to the productive and earnest citizens of the US and existentially our neighbors globally. All this leading the witness, bate and switch tactic is inefficient.

But the real question asked for which the hopeful answer is as follows:

Can I Mr. Private industry get you (Gov-to big who makes me behave) to do this then if I fail-get bail out funds paid for by tax-payer-but if I do good can I keep everything?

                                                                                                        Here is a general reply-

YES to infectious disease control of GOP Zombie Hordes.

NO remorse for Corporate Raiders with God-Complexes.

NO accomplishment that wasn't stolen but persistent self adoration and gloating.

                                                                                                            #152.11 - Thu Oct 18, 2012 5:51 PM EDT

The annoying aspect of this trait is that they can't actually accomplish any of the tasks they so frantically browbeat everyone else to complete.

                                                                                                              #152.12 - Thu Oct 18, 2012 6:00 PM EDT

The effects of subliminal masking techniques manifest when you play it back. Everything rebuttal is backwards.

While I did not mean to say that the President hasn't done anything in the area of energy. I am sure that these initiatives if successful are a step in the right direction. I wonder how long before we start seeing some results from these programs.

At this point I'm not sure about Natural Gas drilling being safe though. I have read reports about people who live near those wells and of problems with ground water contamination. I would be concerned if I lived in an area where the wells were located.

I would suggest to the President that his speeches contain more pertinent information and less bashing.

                                                                                                                  #152.14 - Thu Oct 18, 2012 6:32 PM EDT

A curious claim that appears in the text above is the use of the word "sounds" which is incorrect since my voice is not audible. It's only a little oversight. I do wonder if that is an indicator of sensory dysfunction.

At any rate If it is not glaringly obvious-which apparently it isn't I have absolutely no emotional need for GOP Zombie validation, approval or acceptance. Why would anyone? Have a pleasant if perplexing journey.

Is true that GOP Zombies avoid veterinary clinics?

Why didn't you post the facts about drilling permits being issued at a lower rate under Obama than the last three years of Bush? Or the fact that Salazar has restricted drilling in Alaska's oil reserve? Or the EPA regulations about coal and how many plants have shut down?

Only the information that suits your needs I see.
