President Barack Obama greets supporters after speaking during a campaign event at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio on Wednesday.
A day after the second presidential debate, which included a robust discussion about women's healthcare and equal pay, President Barack Obama aimed to build momentum with women voters as he campaigned in key battleground states on Wednesday.
During a stop in Mount Vernon, Iowa, Obama seized on Mitt Romney’s widely panned “binders full of women” comment, to suggest his Republican opponent is out of touch: “I’ve got to tell you, we don’t have to collect a bunch of binders to find qualified, talented, driven young women, ready to learn and teach in these fields right now,” the president told a crowd of supporters.
During the Tuesday night debate, Romney said that while he was governor of Massachusetts, he asked women’s groups to help him find qualified female applicants for his cabinet. Those groups then brought him “binders full of women,” he said. The phrase immediately touched off a social media storm on Twitter, Facebook and Tumblr.
The Obama campaign hopes to capitalize on the "binders" comment and other issues related to women, believing they can erode some of the inroads Romney may have made with that voting bloc. The latest USA Today Gallup Poll showed Romney and Obama in a tie among women in battleground states. The latest NBC News/WSJ poll showed the president with a double-digit lead among women in Ohio, Florida and Virginia.
While on the campaign trail Wednesday, Obama knocked Romney on fair pay, arguing that Romney has yet to clarify where he stands on the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act of 2009, which makes it easier for women to sue employers for pay discrimination. The president also hammered Romney for supporting the so-called Blunt amendment, which would allow employers to deny women access to contraceptives based on religious beliefs.
During the debate, Romney said the president misrepresents his position on women’s access to healthcare.
“I’d just note that I don’t believe that bureaucrats in Washington should tell someone whether they can use contraceptives or not," Romney said. "I don’t believe employers should tell someone whether they could have contraceptive care or not. Every woman in America should have access to contraceptives.”
On Wednesday, Kerry Healey, Romney’s former lieutenant governor, appeared on MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell Reports to defend the former Massachusetts governor: “This whole discussion about contraception and binders of women is a distraction form the Obama administration’s failure on women’s issues generally.”
When Mitchell asked Healey if employer-subsidized contraceptives are a “pocketbook issue” for women, Healey dodged the question.
“One of the core freedoms that we have as people here in America is our religious freedom. And we cannot infringe on that," she said.
Romney campaign advisor Kerry Healy talks about Mitt Romney's stance on women's issues and whether Tuesday's debate performance will convince women to vote for him.
The Romney campaign has worked to portray him as moderate on women’s issues. On Wednesday, the campaign released a new ad featuring a female Obama supporter who says straight to camera: "Those ads saying Mitt Romney would ban all abortions and contraception seemed a bit extreme. So I looked into it. Turns out, Romney doesn't oppose contraception at all. In fact, he thinks abortion should be an option in cases of rape, incest or to save a mother's life."
The ad is correct that Romney supports abortion in cases of rape and incest. But the GOP candidate has also said that he supports ending federal funding to Planned Parenthood, which provides reproductive health care services including abortions.
Obama campaign aides say they will continue to highlight the differences between the president and his Republican challenger on women’s issues – crucial, given that in 2008, women made up 53 percent of voters.

What the hell did the women's movement fight for other than EQUAL RIGHTS?

Romney still up to his old tricks.
Sensata Technologies workers have been protesting outside the company's Illinois plant against a decision to send 170 jobs to China, but the protest could end up as much more than just a local movement.
The auto parts company is controlled by Bain Capital, a company once led by Mitt Romney, and some online publications are starting to link the job outsourcing to the GOP candidate.
According to The New York Times, Romney still stands to profit off of the Sensata outsourcing:
With Romney benefitting financially from moving jobs to China, the liberal blog Politicus USA asks if Romney himself would be able to take a hard line with China.
Obama's campaign has taken the same stance, saying in a statement:
Though the Sensata Technologies story has not gained much traction in the mainstream media, if it does Mitt Romney could face a blowback that would threaten his growing momentum in the presidential race.

Any woman that could vote for the Vulture/Voucher ticket is either a Stepford wife, or a moron! GOPer mantra - Vaginal Probes for all! Just what any woman wants, the Pale Male and Stale making binding decisions on their health care! The Contraception Nazis - No Birth Control for You!
People in this country are awesome. I thought they did a great job answering the Big Bird attack with so much humor after the first debate. But this? Binders?
Hilarious stuff out there. Very creative and laugh out loud funny.
Quite a turn out for the president today. Massive crowds.
http://theobamadiary.com/
Romney's answer on equal pay last night was a bad answer. His history of women in high positions at Bain is nonexistent.
Why don't you go become a pundit instead of president. Your jokes seem to be better than your policies.
last debate he tried to distract Americans from the real issues with the "Big Bird" nonsense. Now he's at it again.
Don't worry about the real issues that need real solutions. Lets all focus on Gov. Romney's "Binder" comment. Its his only tactic, and a worthless one at that. in the end common sense will prevail.
Romney/Ryan 2012
Here we go again, Wafflin Willard flippin on the issues. Say's he won't support equal pay, but on NOT last night. Waffles on immigration, taxes, birth control and abortion. He will say anything to get a vote.
Why - not that this is THAT important. But it is kind of funny.
Here in Boston the Romney headquarters shares a bldg with an agency I won't name. They do v. important work. When Mitt was governor he wanted to do away with this agency so these people (about 90 employees) don't much like Romney.
So whenever one of his campaign staff parks where they shouldn't park on this particular street, employees of the almost gone agency call the cops on them.
It's only funny because it's true. I mean, you can't make this stuff up. Romney, who has been calling himself 'severely conservative' and backing every nutcase tea party plan to ban abortions and contraception in healthcare and making the employer responsible for what kind of care the female employees will receive, is now:
Misunderstood Mitt, who just loves women, went looking for them when he wanted to boost his credibility with liberals in Mass (which I think is really what he admitted with his 'binders' talk), and would just love for companies to be flexible with women so that they can go home and cook dinner - after which, I suppose, they would need to come back to work to finish up...
Bottom line: he completely creeped out my wife.
Pat, How can Romney be polling 20 -30 points behind Obama in Mass, but Elizabeth Warren is in a close race with Scott Brown?
Romney was obviously uncomfortable last night. His remark about "binders" says a lot about who he is. He doesn't see women as real people. He didn't see anyone in that audience last night as real people. He is a fish out of water when not in the company of his "good old boy" plutocrat network.
Romney would feel more comfortable with women if they decided to take the role he thought women had when he watched snappily dressed ladies on TV ads gleefully performing their domestic duties while marveling at the latest Proctor and Gamble product. He is more than just a little behind the times.
Electing Mitt Romney as president will literally set women's rights back 60 years. He feels that men should make the decisions regarding their own health for them. This is dangerous thinking. Obviously Romney is not aware of the vitally important place women hold in today's economy. At present, more women are graduating from college and starting real careers than men, and more men are living in their parents' basements and playing video games making no plans for their lives.
Get with it Mitt! Your party feels it is vitally important to ammend the Constitution, and to tell women that if they make certain decisions regarding their own health, they are commiting murder. I have always felt that the Constitution should be a document that tells us what we can do, and what our rights are, not what we can't do. Prohibition didn't work out too well, did it?
Mitt, soon you will be fixing your dad's Rambler on its elevator again as you watch your dancing horse, and your political career will be over. I can't wait.
Romney's position on womens rights is near the Nazi level. He would have the undesirable 47% of American Women sterilized to create a more prefect brainwashed 1% cult.
No thank you, I can't wait until Romney's creepy face is removed from the TV ads.
I wasn't aware that women spend all their time running around thinking about Contraception.
I Wonder how degrading it is to be a woman and being reduced to basing your vote on one or two hand picked issues.
Woman don't have to fill up their cars with gas, have to pay taxes, worry about paying their mortgage and bills, face high unemployment, etc.?
I guess if you just graduated form college, and your female, the 50/50 chance of finding a job, and if you do being underpaid or underemployed, doesn't apply to you.
Same thing with Hispanics. It appears the only issue that effects you is Illegal Immigration according to the Democrats. Hispanic don't have to worry about how much your paying for gas, your health care premiums rising by 20%, no Hispanics have faced foreclosure or lost their homes, have high unemployment, etc.
If your Female or Hispanic I guess the $16 trillion dollars in dept doesn't apply to you.
Holy, because MA knows Mitt and the state had to get to know Elizabeth Warren. I think she's going to win.
Scott Brown is a con artist. She is clearly the smarter more progressive candidate. Brown's campaign is being funded by the Koch Bros and people here are ticked off. Brown and Warren made a deal that they wouldn't accept that kind of outside money. Brown took the money.
Oh David, keep on deflecting. You just cannot see the big picture.
4 more for 44!
Romney didn't even get close to answering that question at the debate.
His answer does infer that he had no women advisors on his team before he was elected governor. How many women advisors does he have now?
60% of Romney's advisors used to work for George W. Bush.
David Noah: Oh my God. Let me fill you in little man. If you are pregnant- the price of gas, mortgage payments, bills, and jobs take a back seat. If you have no contraception, you get pregnant over and over and over and over. Facts of life, buddy. The ONLY time you stop thinking about contraception, is when you have plenty of it. Perhaps if you were the one who had to worry about it you might have an inkling.
Romney believes, as does His church, women are here, at, and for, the pleasure of men. Way too many men in general think that also, and alas!, more women than one might think, give great credence to this proposition of antiquated savagery.
Hey Fiesty-
Does the fact that Obama, your champion of women's equal rights and equal pay, pays women in his administration 18% less than their male counterparts offend you?
Or does that Obama koolaide dull your senses, burn out your brain cells, and turn you into one of his mindless zombies?
@David - we don't. We think about the horrible job market, how our kids can't find work, how they are taking out student loans that they may not be able to repay. We worry about the increased cost in health care that is going to bury us. We worry about four more years of this BS. We also vote for Romney.
Most women are smarter than what the dems have painted them to be...vaginas who can't find work on their own merit, who need men to level the playing field for them, and who can't keep their legs closed and not get knocked up.
That's why Obama is losing the women's vote.
Fiesty
Then NOW lost all respect when they shut up and hid behind their aprons for Bill Clinton. Their actions set them back 50 years. Had a chief executive of any corporation done what Clinton did they would have run him out of his job. They showed their true colors during that sad time in US history. They showed that they are far left idiots that don't deserve any respect. The republican party would never have accepted that behavior. The left today just lies about the so-called war on women from the right. It isn't working.
Romney/Ryan
Pat - Thanks for the information! I really like Elizabeth Warren. I thought she should have had the position that Richard Cordray was appointed to. I hope she is elected, they don't make them smarter than her!
Can anyone be more delusional than Redhead Ranting? The war-on-women can be found in the 100+ GOPer congressional anti-abortion and 30+ repeal ACA votes that have happened since the 2010 elections. How about the GOPer party policy to abolish Planned Parenthood! They can also be seen at the state level, like the Vaginal Probe laws in VA and TX! The failed (fortunately) personhood amendment in Mississippi and other states, (Colorado I think). The war on women is real! The GOPers who spew otherwise are delusional!
@JH-307896#1.23:Gwaddamn! "The republican party would never have accepted that behavior". Um, ah, naaaah! Just, Gwaddamn!
But you see Holy Hangrenade the war on women is not waged against me because I pay for my own contraception, I don't get abortions because I don't sleep around. I don't need the government to sign bills about equal pay because I determine my own wage.
There is no war on women in the US. Now in Pakistan and other ME nations there certainly is. Here in the US we have nothing but opportunity.
Boy you are truly a GOPer Redhead Ranting. "I got mine, F the rest".
Thanks Redhead Ranting. What I described earlier is what I'm hearing from my Wife, Mother, Mother in law and other Woman I work with.
There tired of being Stereotyped as one or two issue voters simply because of their gender as if there are no other issues they should be concerned with or impact them.
P.S. I apologize for for not responding earlier. I was on Town Hall teleconferences with my State and U.S. Senators.
If that's how you want to look at it Holy then yes I am. I earned it and while I take care of my own and anyone I choose to help I don't appreciate the gov taking what's mine and giving it to someone who chooses to do less with their opportunities than I have.
@David
Most women aren't the victims that the democratic party wants them to be. Most of us can think for ourselves. We just tend to keep it to ourselves and not publicize it because of the backlash. Women are mean to each other, just look at this board.
I do have a question for all of you?
Do you really think that Fiesty Redhead , Who can afford to fly to Las Vegas for the weekend, to go to a $38,000 a plate fundraiser just to meet the Vice President Joe Biden, is worried about getting free contraception, or has to worry about how she is going to pay her mortgage of feed her family?

What is it with the GOPer fascination with Feisty? God, get a life!
It relates to Who (says) What (to) Whom (in) What Channel (with) What Effect.
"We repeatedly get caught in this conflict between our professed moral principles and the real reasons why we do things-to wit, our self-interest. We are always able to mask those real reasons in words of beneficent goodness-freedom, justice, and so on."(Rules for Radicals, Saul Alinsky, pg.58)
Feisty:
Romney wants a binder full of women's names and flexible work hours so women can go home and make dinner for their families. OMG...how much more out of touch can he possibly be? Whenever I work late, my HUSBAND makes dinner as it's a shared responsibility between equals. Whenever he or Anne works late...oh, scratch that....they live on interest income.
I have lived too long to accept any answer about women's pay being less than a man's. Romney never answered the question about supporting equal pay for women which I read as it never occurred to him that it might need fixing.
It has already been fixed with the Lilly Ledbetter act that was passed in 2009. What do you think Romney should do push for another bill to address the same issue?
Obama did a good thing with that bill and its about time. Now if Unemployment wasn't 7.8% and 23 million Americans could find a job.
The question didn't address any issue that hasn't been resolved it was just a chance for Obama to tout one of his few good accomplishments.
http://uspolitics.about.com/od/speeches/a/obama_accept_5.htm
Since when did the word "vague" come to mean lying about your voting record, lying about your public speeches/published policies and then lying about the lies.
Redhead Ranting I am certainly glad people like Rosa Parks, Susan B Anthony ect did not have your mind set. I highly doubt you have daughters.
We all make our own way and my daughters will as well. You are not a unique brand because you make your own way. Lilly Ledbetter made her own way too! For twenty years being paid less than her male counterparts she made her own way. This is not just a womans issue, this is a rights issue across the board.
Romney's binder on women is that he wants to bind women to desks for lower pay, and no rights!
He's the pig we all thought he was. Never mind the 47%, the women make up that and the men he's talking about make up another 25%. Romney hates all of you and he wants to make sure you suck a big egg before he's done.
Romney's binder comments become relevant in that he once again has demonstrated that he will continue to lie and no one will hold him accountable.
MORNING JOE has once again illustrated how he too is willing to give Romney as pass on his scripted lies!
I found Morning Joe's "Binder Discussion" disturbing, with 4 Men sitting around a table belittling Mika as she attempted to point out the importance of Romney's lies.
These 4 men evidently don't understand how their arrogant treatment of Mika solidifies the "Glass Ceiling" complaints championed by women.
Scarborough tried to cover his disconcerting remarks probably at the request of his producers, but it was too late because the world has now seen his views on women.
Do not men see the hypocrisy of 4 men sitting around a table with one woman, while telling her they understand more about women than she does?
I'm an old man, and I have never treated a woman with the disrespect shown on Morning Joe!
You can disagree with a woman without brow beating her on a political news program.
Hmmm, I wonder what happened to the 18% gap between Romney and Obama. It's a virtual tie right now and a death sentence for any Democrat.
Romney sure is a member of the right party, the GOP - the party of Grumpy Old People. "Old", of course, being a comment about attitudes, not age.
John,
I prefer to call it "maturity". Voters like adults to lead the country. That's why of the last 15 presidential terms, Democrats held the White House only 6 terms and consequently a conservative Supreme Court.
Here's a list of Romney's foreign policy advisors, from the Wall Street Journal.{these brackets contain additional information not from the WSJ}
The war on women is only in the minds of liberals. Obama is for anything women want, just ask him and he will make another promise. Obama will side with any issue if there is a vote to gain. But actions do speak louder then words, and women have taken a beating the past four years so the writing is on the wall with what they can expect from Obama. The war on women works this way, either you give us free stuff or you are against us. Basically liberals want affirmative action for women, and they want it now.
Women paid significantly less in Obama White House than their male counterparts
All of President Barack Obama's employees may not be treated equally in the White House, as recently released financial records show that female employees earn significantly less than their male counterparts.
Using the 2011 annual report of White House staff salaries that was submitted to Congress, an $11,000 difference is clear between the median female employee salary and the median male employee salary.
This news comes on top of continued criticism- of both President Obama and prior presidents- that women are underrepresented in the White House.
Of the administration's 20 top earners, who each took home a tidy $172,200 for their work in 2011, only six of those were women.
The most oft-singled-out leading lady in the President's testosterone-fueled inner circle is Valerie Jarrett who is one of his closest advisors.
That said, she has been with the President since his days in Chicago and is seen as one of his close personal friends as well as a trusted advisor.
The gender differential has been noticed outside of the White walls, and Dee Dee Myers- the first female press secretary who worked under the Clinton administration- feels it is not doing Mr Obama's team any favors.
'Women are Obama's base, and they don't seem to have enough people who look like the base inside of their own inner circle,' Dee Dee Myers told The New York Times.
The hefty salaries, like Ms Jarrett's, were not the norm, however, as the median salary for women in the White House is $60,000 which is 18 per cent less than their male peers whose median salary was $71,000.
This is not the first time that a pay disparity has been present in Mr Obama's White House, as it started as soon as his time in office did.
In 2009, women made 89 cents for every dollar that men made in 'the People's House'.
On average, that came out to $9,390 less.
While that looks like last year's calculations would mean a more drastic increase, those figures were compiled on the median salaries and not the mean so the two numbers are not exactly compatible, but they do show that there has not been a marked improvement in the situation.
Though the White House is not setting a great example, it is doing better than most: a recent national survey claims that women still make 23 cents less than men for every dollar earned.
That may present more of a problem, as the President's platform clearly values equal pay, as Mr Obama signed the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act only nine days into his term.
The current administration's gender differential is certainly not the first, as former President Bill Clinton only had four women among his 17 top paid employees.
The downward trend continued with President George W. Bush, who only had 35 women among his top 122 workers.
Unlike in previous years, Mr Obama may be held to a greater degree of accountability on the issue now as both parties paint the other as waging a war against women.
@ Redhead Ranting,
Excellent post. I get attacked whenever I point out how mean women are to each other. Very few will admit it although they know it to be true. This is not meant as a negative comment by the way. I love women, especially any of them that are nice to me.
The GOP has forced women to choose between fiscal policies that they may endorse and social policies they find abhorrent. There seems to be no room in the current Republican party for women. If a political party's unscripted speech revealed its hatred and dismissal of you as a person, I don't think you'd be fooled into voting for them by shame disguised as Patriotism. I also don't think you'd be fooled into voting for them by some false line of "c'mon, don't be so sensitive and selfish! do what's best for every(man). It's not about your body, it's about the economy!" All politics is personal. Women are not so dumb as to think they are only reproductive vessels, but they are also not so dumb as to fall for guilt trips disguising a hidden and wide sweeping agenda.
spin...
You've been listening to Admiral Sandra Fluke too much..."Republicans want to deny access to contraception" is the biggest load of diaper waste in the campaign yet.
And you're correct..."women are not so dumb"...but many are, including those who are basing their votes on this single issue because they actually believe the baloney self-promoting ladies like the Admiral and help---my-tv-show-has-been-cancelled - Eva Longoria. "Deny access" is a fat lie and any woman who swallows that lie is "dumb". The President and his V.P Chuckles the Clown are playing women for suckers by making this a single-issue campaign for them.
I never said they were denying access. I understand the issues, but you seem ready to lump me with a group of women with whom you feel hostilities. Interesting. Your insistence on claiming women are suckers for making this a single issue campaign is proving my point. The economy is also a single issue, by the way.
Why is Mr. Obama CLUELESS on how to run the United States of America ?
Simple answer: Community organizer.
Might want to do an article on the "restraints" imposed on women working on the White House STAFF.

is AMAZED with you naive voters whom the Count and his sidekick Lyin"Ryan, are
trying to manipulate into shooting yourselves throught the butt.
I wonder how degrading it is to be a woman and being reduced to your reproductive decisions taken away and given to some old white guy you've never met?
You brought it up, why don't you enlighten us?
Tammy - Rosa Parks and Susan B Anthony had exactly my mindset. They didn't let others tell them what to think and they didn't kowtow to the bullies of the day. They thought for themselves and didn't need men to take care of them (expecting the government to take care of you is actually worse than expecting a man to take care of you). How dare you try to co-opt their courage. Grow a pair, take care of yourself, and then we can talk. Until then you are just another victim. Neither Rosa Parks or Susan B Anthony were victims.
Binders or B-E-N-G-H-A-Z-I
'binders full of women'?
.
- what image you can conjure up from a Mormon's perspective
It's desperation time in the Obama camp. . .
Those instant polls may have shown Obama edging Romney- but I think that was simply a sigh of relief from the remainderof his cult. On the issues: the economy, jobs, taxes, Romney beat Obama by double digits.
Oh, and by the way? Looks like Obama has given up on Virginia, North Carolina, and Florida. They want to "circle the wagons" around Ohio, Nevada, New Hampshire, and Iowa. Obama might take one of those states- after all, those voters were dumb enough to send ok'Harry back to D.C.- but the other three?
I doubt it.
Snookie - Obama/Biden will take Ohio. No doubt about it! Early voting is 66% Obama/Biden. The big O ground game is running strong. All the GOPers have are yard signs and Karl Marx Rove TV ads. The TV ads are a waste of money. people tuned them out long ago!
Hey! Lefties, who is this Willard guy I keep reading about here on MSNBC? The more I read about him the more I want to vote for him.....
Willard is a meek social misfit with a strange affinity for rats who eventually end up eating him.
Nothing could be more telling then the fact that an incumbent president is spending late October in New Hampshire pleading for four electoral votes. If the Obama camp felt this election was in the bag like they are trying to convince their base, New Hampshire would possibly be seen from a window on AF1. But to stop there, never. The Obama campaign is in trouble and they know it. There is nothing but Romney attacks spewing from Obama, and nothing about his own record or vision for the next four years. Obama is 0-1-1 in debates with Romney, and that is about as pathetic as it could be for an incumbent president.
I live near metro Atlanta, and I expected to see a LOT more support for Wrongme. After all, you still commonly see Bush/Cheney and McCain/Palin bumper stickers. I can say I have seen less than a dozen RR bumper stickers, and possibly less than twice that number of yard signs. It might have to do with the fact that this is Baptist Bible Belt country, and they don't tolerate deviation from the norm much. The Mormon church/corporation/cult has made small inroads, but this ain't SLC. It also could be that they did not like the way Sheldon Adelson and the Koch brothers rammed Romney down their throats. I know Herman Cain and Newt Gingrich were VERY popular until they both imploded. Romney imploded last, so I guess he wins by default, but I have never seen such tepid support for any candidate in my life.
It looks like Mr. Obama's support is growing a bit "tepid' too. Maybe he and his veep Chuckles the Clown should try talking like adults instead of college radio hosts going for votes with nitwitted runs on "binders" and "Big Bird".
what I'd like to know is what does hiring women have to do with fair pay. You can hire women to do a job but doesn't mean you paid them fairly, which I am sure that's what Romney did because of his response to the question if he believes in equal pay for women. And his response was one of cover up and once again he flipped flopped because the morning after he said he would not repel the bill that Pres. Obama signed for equal pay for women, and this was after Romney's campaign manager said he did not believe in the bill. Will say anything to get the votes, Romney is a shameful human being, really is.
Mormon wedding photos?
He's the guy that hired GW Bush's unemployed neo-conservative foreign policy advisers. You know, the "job creator" and "woman binder".
He has 'binders full of women!' Who does he think he is? A PIMP! What a joke America. The GOP/RNC "Intervert and Chief" has a view of women of a very confused man still living in 1955. Women need to get home to cook dinner! Really? Why can't men do the cooking as well? This very 'sexually confused' GOP/RNC "Romulian" has no clue of how the female body works biologically. Maybe he does better with understanding the biology of Romulian Females? One doubts it! Who joins the GOP/RNC "Speculator and Chief" in his private elevators, and his 'quiet rooms?'
Willard still owns 51% of Bain and is still up to his old tricks!!!!
FREEPORT, Ill -- Monday in Freeport, Illinois, three protesters were arrested after they tried to block a truck from leaving the Sensata plant. What's brought attention to this protest is that Sensata plans to shut down operations and outsource to China, and is owned by Bain Capital which Presidential canidate Mitt Romney owns 51%.
‘A man, a woman and the 16-year-old daughter of the Sensata employee were arrested after they refused to get out of the way of a truck leaving the plant with equipment for China.
‘"Not all of us, but some of us are willing to be arrested to stop that truck," said Debi Kempel, one of the three arrested today. ‘Protesters have been camping out across the street from the Sensata plant since early September. The plant is slated for closing next month.”
Sensata workers have set up a camp they call "Bainport" and workers and supporters are trying to block the Bain trucks that are moving equipment out to ship to China right now. In breaking news there were arrests made today."
"The Sensata workers camping at Bainport are asking Mitt Romney to come help them keep their jobs. Romney insists that he has nothing to do with Bain Capital anymore (his tax returns showed that he gets more than $400,000 a week from Bain investments).
'Helping the Sensata workers would show that he means it when he says he has nothing to do with the things Bain does now, and that he will do something about the jobs being sent to China. What better opportunity to prove both than to show up and confront Bain for sending these jobs to China!"
Romney does not care, and is probably too heavily invested in Bain to challenge it. He certainly cannot stand up to China! Given a choice between money and the middle class, the choice for Romney is clear. Money trumps all.
.
The fairgrounds across the road from the plant is where the have made an emcampment. They call it Bainport (instead of Freeport, Illinois). Someone is always there. Many sleep overnight. They have meals together and they are trying to bring attention to their cause. Sensata had its most profitable year last year. The move to China has nothing to do with the plant not being profitable. It is about making even more money for its share holders by paying Chinese workers 24 cents per hour.
The workers have already trained the supervisors from China for their jobs who traveled to Freeport, Illinois as if loosing their jobs wasn't enough. Mitt Romney said on the debate stage he would be tough on China. Well, it seems he is going to be tough on the Chinese (by supporting inhumane working conditions), as well as be tough on American workers by supporting closing their plant. Workers were promised 56 weeks of severance pay. Well, that apparently is too much for Bain, they have reduced it to 26 weeks.
A week ago, almost 80 million people watched the first presidential debate. Too be sure, everyone left in complete surprise. Some left in glee, and others left in gloom. Last week in the presidential debates, Mitt Romney indicated he’d cut funding to PBS. Here’s Romney’s quote from the debate:
“I’m sorry, Jim, I’m going to stop the subsidy to PBS. I’m going to stop other things. I like PBS, I love Big Bird. Actually like you, too. But I’m not going to—I’m not going to keep on spending money on things to borrow money from China to pay for”
It is particularly interesting that Mr. Romney was so concerned about borrowing money from China. After researching his history with China, it is dubious whether his statement was meant to protect Americans, or the Chinese. Most of those who watched the debate agree that Romney won the debate handily. He was out front, aggressive and very theatrical. The very same people also agree that he stood on that stage and lied profusely. The world has been listening to him for almost two years, and in the blink of an eye this man said things entirely different, and denied that he ever altered a single word.
Do you remember the old expression, “He talks out of both sides of his mouth? It referred to those people who would say anything to have their way. It was absolutely unimportant whether or not these the comments conflicted. When considering the works of Willard M. Romney, this type of behavior should concern all of America. Mr. Romney is running for the presidency, and has spoken quite freely about his experience as someone who can create jobs for the US. In question, however, is the matter of Romney outsourcing American jobs to China. The same China he is too proud to borrow from.
An article by David Corn of Mother Jones, entitled “EXCLUSIVE: Romney Invested "Millions in Chinese Firm That Profited on US Outsourcing’ proved to be incredibly revealing. We are given the privilege of seeing how Romney worked. What most of us never considered is that the evils of Bain could touch our lives today. Clearly, David Corn made it evident!
'Earlier this year the Romney's campaign clashed with the Washington Post. The newspaper reported that “Bain Capital, the private equity firm the GOP presidential candidate founded, invested in several US companies that outsourced jobs to China and India.”
"The Romney campaign demanded an apology, as it declared the report to be untrue. The Washington post stood by that article. As we can now see, it was for very good reason. Certainly, this was not good news for W.M. Romney, who has been spouting that he would get tough on China, and make sure they ceased to take jobs away from Americans. Romney openly and shamelessly professed this while he was yet investing in a Chinese Manufacturing Company. Romney was determined to generate capital from a “foreign company that banked on American firms outsourcing manufacturing overseas.”
“Romney's Global-Tech deal adds a new dimension to the debate over Romney and outsourcing. Whether or not he was at the helm when Bain invested in US firms that did or did not ship jobs overseas, Romney was in command when a company he owned and controlled bought a large stake in a Chinese venture that counted on American companies sending manufacturing—and that means jobs—to China. These days, Romney rails against China for swiping American jobs and proclaims, "For me, it's all about good jobs for the American people." But when there was money to be made by acquiring a chunk of a Chinese company that aimed to displace American manufacturers (and American workers), Romney's patriotism did not interfere with the potential for profit.
President Obama has been sounding the alarm incessantly. It is up to us to listen to what each of these men says, and weigh its truth.
“My opponent has been running around Ohio claiming he’s going to roll up his sleeves and he’s going take the fight to China,” the president said to a crowd of 4,500 at a hillside park here. “Here’s the thing: his experience has been owning companies that were called pioneers in the business of outsourcing jobs to countries like China.”
‘“Ohio,” the president declared, “you can’t stand up to China when all you’ve done is send them our jobs.”
“Mitt Romney likes to talk tough on China, but his own campaign has confirmed that he remains invested in a Chinese company that has been accused of piracy at the expense of American companies. And now, the Boston Globe has revealed that Romney, as head of Bain Capital, invested in a “low-wage, low-tax” Chinese firm after it told investors that it “would not be subject to taxes in the United States” President Obama is absolutely right.
"Sensata is a Bain-owned company that is closing a factory in in Freeport, IL to move the jobs to China. The workers have set up a camp they call "Bainport" and workers and supporters are trying to block the Bain trucks that are moving equipment out to ship to China right now. In breaking news there were arrests made today.
'The Sensata workers called on Mitt Romney — an investor in Sensata through his Bain holdings — to intervene. A group went to Iowa during the primaries to ask him to come to Freeport; they met with no success. Another group went to the Republican convention to ask him to come to Freeport; they had no success, either.
So, with the open support of Freeport’s mayor and City Council, the workers set up a “Bainport” encampment in the Stephenson County Fairgrounds right across the street from the plant.
'“Welcome to Bainport, a taste of the Romney economy,” reads one sign. “Romney does have a jobs plan; too bad it’s for China,” reads another. And Mrs. Turner and others began to make their voices heard.
'“We are suffering from the Bain model of capitalism,” Mrs. Turner said. “This is the way Bain works. They take over good companies, and then ship their jobs to China to make even more money."
His concern for the middle class and even America do not ring true. Although once a simple pioneer in outsourcing, today Mitt and company are at the height of their experience. For Many, they are seen as experienced in stabbing American workers in the back. They are sending American jobs to China, after forcing American workers to train the Chinese who will be taking their jobs. This is not new behavior as we will see.
The story of Sensata has been reported on, but not enough. It is crucial for people to see what Romney economics involves. Many of the people who are cheering for Romney, like the employees of Sensata were, would be surprised to find that they are nothing more than a fragment of the 47%. Romney is not concerned about people. He appears to be more concerned with personal power and money. Clearly, the employees from Sensata
Romney talks loud but when you actually listen to him, he says nothing. He talks about all the different things he wants to do, but he won't say how he's planning to do anything. He talks about trimming 5 trillion dollars from the budget, but he won't say until after the election what he's going to cut. You can be damn well sure he's not going to cut anything rich people and rich companies use. That right there tells every thinking person that 5 trillion dollars in cuts will end almost all, if not all programs the poor and middle class need. He has already said that he will give the rich a tax cut so that rules out them paying for anything.
Die-hard republican and Romney voters, if you are not rich, Romney is telling you straight out, that he's going to nail your a$$ to the wall.
For all you republican voters that believe you will hurt President Obama by voting for romney, in case you don't know, President Obama is already rich so if romney wins the White House, his plan for the rich will make Obama a whole lot richer than he already is, but on the other hand, you will pay dearly for your stupidity. Vote republican and you help the man you hate so much become richer than you will ever be, and at the same time, you put your own bank account in danger because Romney will make it go away.
So, Clinton walks out on stage, and says...where are the women in binders?
So, that's all Obama can come up with at this point re getting re-elected?!? To take something totally out of context and try to claim Romney is anti-women? Good luck with that, ought to be about as successful as making Big Bird a campaign issue.
Good God, the GOPers have taken stuff out of context so many times I have lost count. GOPer - hypocrite be they name!
4 more for 44!
Kaehu -
That's all the Obama campaign has been able to do since starting to run For re-election! It's pretty hard to run on your 'record' when it consists of one failure after another.
I don't even think Jimmy Carter's record was as bad as Obama's!
That would be because you don't think.
And Jimmy carters record was better than little Bush...
Obama went to New Hampshire to plead for four electoral votes in late October, and only liberals don't see what that actually means. The Obama campaign is in trouble and they know it. It doesn't matter how the media sugar coats Obama, he has failed and his campaign is failing. Not one positive word is being uttered by Obama, just one attack after another is all this incumbent president has to run on. Nothing could be more pathetic.
The excuses, the blame, the conjured up war on women are all crumbling in the waning moments of the campaign. Unlike the summer months, people are paying attention and they realize Obama has failed to lead this nation in the right direction, and he offers nothing for hope that would change if given four more years. In debates, Obama is 0-1-1, and his entire campaign is running on blame and excuses. Which don't appear to be working any longer, it seems that people are starting to hold Obama accountable for failing.
Not so "out of context"
Romney waffles on the Lilly Ledbetter law... http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2012/10/romney-campaign-wavers-on-lilly-ledbetter-act/
Paul Ryan voted against equal pay for women.
Statement: "Lilly Ledbetter was not an equal pay law. It was about opening up the lawsuits and statute of limitations," Ryan said. "It wasn't an equal pay law, and of course, we support equal pay."
Definition: "Protect the corporations from justice" ..."of course we believe women should all be equally paid".
Let's see some due diligence. describe the shortcomings of both their records and let's compare with ...oh ...say...GW Bush. And before you start whining about bringing up Bush...Romney hired his advisers so it's perfectly relevant.
If you missed Hardball/Chris Mattews tonight, suggest you look at the videos - great stuff! especially James Lipton: (paraphrasing here) 'If you want a BOSS who tells lame jokes and makes you feel anxious, vote for Romney . . . but if you want a President, vote for Obama"!
the Sideshow segment is priceless & not to be missed :-)
VOTE: O & Joe!!

I am 60. I remember back-alley abortions, & when Roe was passed. I cannot believe we are debating all this - again? still? I have to (in a way) thank Todd "Legitimate-Rape" Akin - I wasn't really paying attention to this issue until he brought women's attention to it. against contraception? REALLY? jeez.
Lyin' Ryan and Myth Robme would take us back THERE. Without a safety net for women who do get pregnant - even for a 15-year-old girl who gets raped by her uncle/step-father.
But this is NOT just an "abortion" issue . . . if women can't control their bodies, they can't control their choices about family, their own "home economics," their jobs/careers.
I am NOT "pro-abortion" - I am for women making their own health care decisions and keeping governments out of our bedrooms!!
VOTE DEM - your life really does depend on it!
So, in your opinion, there is no human life in a woman's body that should have the right to live if the mother does not want him or her to live?
That is correct. As much as some people would prefer it, a woman is not a mere vessel and extant life takes precedent over potential life. If you want to view life as "sacred" then you must begin with the woman's and her right to exercise free will.
I agree culheath!
All these "pro-lifers" want to end abortion because they "care" however they don't care about the human life that already exists... Makes NO sense! Women should ALWAYS have the right to decide what they want/don't want in life-especially with their bodies!
These people don't realize how dangerous it is to ban abortion. Back-alley abortions would happen all over again, people would find other unhealthy ways to rid the baby, or they would raise the child improperly because they never wanted one in the first place. And they try to say put them up for adoption--do they not realize how many children already are trying to be adopted?! It is extremely hard/expensive to adopt a child... if abortion was not an option and everyone chose adoption the adoption agencies would end up overpopulated and all these children would have no homes and be miserable!
Pro-lifers just don't understand the horrible outcomes that could come out of banning abortion...
Shalom, your opinion and mine don't count. I understand a bunch of male legislators examined the issue and made the decision for you.
Wrongme is just going to sign it, like he was ordered to by Grover Norquist.
"We just need a president to sign this stuff. We don’t need someone to think it up or design it. The leadership now for the modern conservative movement for the next 20 years will be coming out of the House and the Senate. Pick a Republican with enough working digits to handle a pen to become President of the United States." - Grover Norquist, February 2012
Culheath post #8.2:
You are being more honest than most people on this issue, but you are also being only partially honest..
Once a human female ovum is fertilized by human male sperm, inside a human body or outside outside a human body, a human life created. That person created by fertilization is classified by scientists as a homosapien--just like the mother. Both are equally human. Therefore, the person created by fertilization is not a potential life; he or she is an actual human life. You think a mother should have the legal right to kill the human life in her body at any time after fertilization. Chilling and extreme. Why do you think the mother should have more rights than the human life that lives in her body?
If you think I am going to base my morals at the direction of someone of your ilk, who clearly doesn't base his or her morality on traditional Judeo-Christian moral principles, you are as mistaken as you are pathetic. I think all human life is equally sacred from conception to natural death because all life comes from God. That is where I start. Based on that premise, the human life in a mother's body should have as much a right to life or existence as the mother. I think intentionally killing a innocent human life inside or outside the human body is gravely immoral. As a result, I believe the mother should have no legal right to kill the innocent human life in her body.
addy121 post #8.3
Please provide evidence that supports that statement. All pro-lifers I know care equally about all human life whether inside or outside the human body.
You think a mother should have the legal right to kill the human life in her body at any time after fertilization. Why do you think the mother should have more rights than the human life that lives in her body?
I am not denying that even though I pray that they won't, but you have to acknowledge with an abortion ban a lot fewer innocent lives would killed by the mother. If anyone reading this post is suffering from the effects of an abortion, please contact a Project Rachel group in your area The Catholic Church teaches that no sin is greater than God's mercy.

That is a little presumptuous. Many a person who was "improperly raised" lived a productive adult life. Very few probably wish they were dead or had never been born.
No. How many and please cite your source. Please also provide the how long they had to "wait" to be adopted.
Please see you prior comment I posted immediately above this one. Why is it so expensive to adopt if there are so many children to adopt? Why does adoption defy the economic principle of supply vs. demand? There used to be orphanages--they could come back. Many people raised in orphanages lived happy, productive adult lives. Read about the Father of Dominos Pizza Tom Monaghan. Very few probably wish they were dead.
Right or wrong, we think we do and we think it is a lot better than having abortion legalized.
Starderup post 6.4:
They do only to the extent that we can influence lawmakers.
It wasn't a bunch of male legislatures. It was seven male judges. In an abortion all a woman does is exercise her legal right, given to her by 7 men (where were the women) back in 1973:
Warren Burger, William O. Douglas, William J. Brennan, Potter Stewart, Thurgood Marshall, Harry Blackmun and Lewis Powell
to kill the innocent human life in her womb.
Most medical people would disagree with you, as would most lay people...which is why abortion is a legal medical procedure and not considered murder which of course it would be if the early zygote or fetus were considered an actual person.
Because it is her call and not anyone else's and I do not consider a fetus a conscious entity prior to it having the ability to survive outside of the parasitic condition in which it exists inside womb.
Irrespective of what moral code or religious precept you feel to adhere to as absolute truth, you do not have the right to impose it on anyone else.
It simply is not at all important to the pregnant woman having to weigh the circumstances surrounding a potential decision to abort her pregnancy what you might think or feel about it based on your world view or your ideas of what is moral or immoral.
What I consider gravely immoral is that one of God's creations would presume to insert themselves into someone's else's relationship with God or spiritual relationship with creation as though they had the authority or knowledge to do so. I see it as arrogance at it's worst.
Culheath ost #8.8
Pure nonsense. It is an undisputed scientific fact that a new living organism is created when a a human female ovum is fertilized by human male sperm and that living organism is called a homosapien (also a human being). All human can trace his or her origin back to the moment of fertilization. No scientist will argue those facts.
That is not the reason why people who have or perform abortions are not charged with murder in this country. People who have an abortion or assist in an abortion procedure in the United States are not charged with the crime of murder because 7 men (where were the women?) and 7 men alone:
Warren Burger, William O. Douglas, William J. Brennan, Potter Stewart, Thurgood Marshall, Harry Blackmun and Lewis Powell.
back in 1973 determined that homosapiens in a mother's body did not possess the legal rights of personhood. Unlike you, even they had the intellectually honesty to admit (or at least not deny) that such living organisms are human beings; they just said these human beings had no legal rights.
No scientist would deny that that an early human zygote or fetus is classified as a homosapien and is much as a homosapien as his or her mother or father. Therefore, it is an actual person in the earliest stages of human development, but an actual person none-the-less. In the United States, solely because of those aforementioned 7 men, a early zygote or fetus possesses no legal rights.
It is her call and not anyone else's only because Warren Burger, William O. Douglas, William J. Brennan, Potter Stewart, Thurgood Marshall, Harry Blackmun and Lewis Powell decided it should be. Many don't think it should be. From a moral perspective, why should the homosapien in her body have no legal right to exist, but the mother has all the legal right to kill him or her? Legal rights can change. We hope the 1973 decision of these 7 men will change.
What the heck is a "conscious entity"? Are you making up terms to justify your moral decisions? Are you denying the biological fact that fetus inside the womb isn't a living organism classified by scientists as a homosapien? You should quit being intellectually dishonest. You will at least gain some respect for your intellectual honesty (but not for your moral reasoning) if you just state that you believe that human beings who are not born should not possess any legal rights.
All laws reflect the morality of the lawmaker. When a law is codified or created by common law that lawmaker(s)' morality is FORCED upon all the citizens of that governmental jurisdiction. When Warren Burger, William O. Douglas, William J. Brennan, Potter Stewart, Thurgood Marshall, Harry Blackmun and Lewis Powell said human beings who are not born have no legal rights they shoved their morality down my throat. Many a grandparent and biological father have suffered greatly because they had no choice in whether or not his or her grandchild or child was going to live because the biological mother wanted her legally killed and did so because people who believed that abortion should be legal shoved their morality down their throat. Nothing wrong with laws. Society needs them to enforce its moral code--otherwise society would not exist. But you need to be intellectually honest what a law does--a law shoves the lawmakers moral code down the throat of all citizens in that jurisdiction. So why do people who think it should be legal for the mother to legally kill the human life living inside her body believe it is acceptable for them to shove their moral values down the rest of society's throat, but don't think it is right for people who think abortion should be illegal to shove their moral values down the rest of society's throat.
But that same decision is very important to the homosapien that the pregnant woman is deciding to kill or let live. It is literally a matter of life and death to him or her. Those are the human beings who people believe that abortion should be illegal are speaking for.
Through the ages, God has spoken and said the taking of an innocent human life is gravely immoral. It is also gravely immoral if those who can stop such an act do nothing to prevent it. All we are doing is trying to prevent the killing of an innocent human life when we try to make abortion illegal in this country. We will live with the eternal consequences of trying to do so because we can't live with the eternal consequences of doing nothing. That all being said, the Catholic Church teaches that no sin is greater than God's mercy. For any reader of this post suffering from the consequences of an abortion, please visit a Project Rachel in your area. You will find healing and peace and experience the goodness of God by experiencing His forgiveness and love.
Shalom2U
You don't know what you are talking about. Do you consider a single cell a human being? If so, there can be no rational discourse with you.
No. See http://www.biology-online.org/dictionary/Cell . For definition of cell. See http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/organism for definition of organism. The difference between the two should be clear. Humans are not unicellular.
The simple undisputed scientific fact is:
a new living organism is created when a a human female ovum is fertilized by human male sperm and that living organism is called a homosapien (also a human being).
You might not like that fact, but you can't change facts. What is irrational about what I am saying.
I do want to correct myself when I said humans are not unicellular. The definition of zygote is:
a cell formed by the union of two gametes; broadly : the developing individual produced from such a cell
http://www.biology-online.org/dictionary/Zygote
http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/zygote
Please note the the term "developing individual". A zygote is a living organism classified by scientists as a homosapien even though it is a single cell even though it resulted from the fusion of two separate cells. All human individuals who ever existed were at one time a zygote. Scientists call a human zygote a single cell human being or a human being at the earliest stage of development. Scientists call a giraffe zygote, a single cell giraffe at the earliest stage of giraffe development.
It is all rational.
Really? Would you be upset with a giraffe zygote being aborted or used in scientific research?
Do you refer to acorns as oak trees? How about the first fertilized cell of what will become an acorn?
The fact that you cannot understand the difference between a potential and realized life form clearly demonstrates that you are not capable of being rational about any of this.
Science does not consider a fertilized human ovum a person. A human embryo can develop in such a way that it has no cerebral matter whatsoever...would you call that entity a person?
No, it is not a human being.
An acorn is the hard fruit of an oak tree, consisting of a smooth single-seeded nut that is set in a cup-shaped base and ripens from green to brown. A seed is a plant part produced by sexual reproduction that contains the embryo and gives rise to a new plant. I do treat humans and plants differently. I don't care about killing a tree; I do care about killing an innocent human life.
You need to understand the meaning of the word potential: possible but as yet not actual.
Really? What does science call it then? If it is a living organism science classifies it? Are you denying that a fertilized ovum is a living organism? Why isn't it? Who gave you the criteria do make such classification if it isn't? Please inform the scientific world they were wrong--according to you. When does human life begin? Who gave you the authority to determine that? Why would it not be at the moment of fertilization? Can't every human who ever existed trace their origin back to the moment of conception?
Yes...and almost all scientists would as well. It clearly is an organism, what do scientists call it if not a homosapien with no cerebral matter?
Romney claims (this time) to support abortions in cases of incest and rape. What does that mean, exactly? That the woman has to take the man to court and prove rape before she can have an abortion? Wouldnt that be too difficult to do within 3 months of the inception? So doesnt the woman just get to have an abortion if she deems it necessary, if you support the view that there are times when abortion is an acceptable choice? If you agree that there is ever a time when abortion is the right answer; you have to let the woman control the situation. Don't you? If you live in the real world?
If people were more familiar with the Mormon religion, they would understand Romney's stance on women's rights. In the LDS, women really don't have rights. It's plain and simple.
I lived there for two years, and I can tell you they MAY actually have come from the Planet Kolob. Despite the church/corporation/cult's directives to their followers to go nuts on the 'be fruitful and multiply' thing, Playboy magazines are kept behind the counter. It is a very constrictive society. I was told when I was 10 that there is no restrictions on non-Mormon boys joining the Boy Scouts, but that I was wasting my time.
One of the happiest days in my childhood was the day I left Utah. I gave that neighborhood the finger as we left to return to California.
The facts about American women.
Do women really care about having equal rights as men? I really don't think so. They don't care about getting paid the same or about health care reform. They like being lower then men's best friend.
Mitt Romney "I think I've said time and again that I'm a pro-life candidate and I'll be a pro-life president. The actions I'll take immediately is to remove funding for Planned Parenthood."

About Mitt Romney
When it comes to women's health, Mitt Romney simply doesn't get it.
In his run for the presidency, voters have become reacquainted with a candidate who is simply dangerous on women's health issues.
Time and again, Romney has shown that he's willing to throw women's health under the bus in order to get elected. He made that point crystal clear this spring when discussing which programs he would eliminate, his answer was simple: "Planned Parenthood, we're going to get rid of that." But that's just the beginning.
Here are the top five things you need to know about Mitt Romney and where he stands on women's health issues.
No matter how much he tries to talk around the issue and run from his record, there's no avoiding the fact that Mitt Romney opposes access to safe and legal abortion. When asked if he believes the Supreme Court should overturn Roe v. Wade, his answer was simple: "Yes, I do." When asked if the repeal of Roe would be a good day for America, he responded "Absolutely."
He announced his support for the Blunt amendment, a bill that was introduced to restrict access to birth control by allowing any employer the right to deny health insurance coverage for any benefit based on a "moral" conviction. Governor Romney is on the wrong side of the public on this issue: 67 percent of American voters opposed this measure. He has aggressively supported this stance, even launching a petition against the Health and Human Services ruling to include birth control as basic preventive care.
If elected, Romney has pledged to repeal the Affordable Care Act "on day one" of his presidency, meaning one of his first acts would be to cut off millions of women and families' access to affordable preventive care by returning to the days when you could be discriminated against for pre-existing conditions and overturning the no-cost birth control benefit.
Romney supports extreme and sweeping measures like a "personhood" amendment to define life at conception (which could ban common forms of birth control and in some cases, in vitro fertilization) or his belief that states should have the right to ban contraception. Romney once commented that the landmark case of Griswold v. Connecticut — which overruled the state's right to ban contraception nearly 50 years ago — was wrong, proving just how dangerous he is on women's health issues.
"The actions I'll take immediately are to remove funding for Planned Parenthood." At the end of the day, it's his own words and actions that count and Romney has made his position more than clear: protecting access to basic preventive care is not what he's about and he must be held accountable, and must know that women are watching. When asked where he would tell the millions of women to go if he eliminated federal funding for Planned Parenthood, Romney said: "Well they can go wherever they'd like to go. This is a free society." Seems to us, Romney's saying women can go wherever they'd like as long as it's not Planned Parenthood. What Romney fails to understand and what we're seeing happen in states like Texas and Tennessee is that in certain places Planned Parenthood is the ONLY provider for women. Getting "rid of" Planned Parenthood which he seems so apt to do, is detrimental to the nearly three million patients who rely on their health centers for lifesaving cancer screenings, well-woman exams, and birth control.

Once it became clear that the latter was the case, my decision was straightforward." Romney reversing himself on emergency contraception. (Boston Globe)

So, in your opinion, there is no human life in a woman's body that should have the right to live if the mother does not want him or her to live?
But GetReal, you've missed an important point. The Pro-Romney/Pro-Ryan/Pro-Rape folks are vocal in why Romney is their man, if somewhat plastic and heartless in his manhood. All these chants about "The Economy!" "Jobs!" For some of them, what this really means is that money is more important than humans, particularly women and the structurally disenfranchised. All the while, they talk about what good, decent, salt-of-the-earth Americans they are, and you can see how happy they are to step over the homeless person, or the hungry child, to posture their moral decency.
Democrats, the noble defenders of women.
How many Rape safe zones did the Tea party folks have to have at their events?
How many Rape Safe zones did the occupiers have to have at their encampments?
Perhaps you can explain why "Occupiers" are opposed to trying to deal with Human exploitation and trafficking?

Romney feels that women have a purpose in his household. One tied in bed, one tied to the bed, one tied to the stove, one tied to the vaccum cleaner, and the other stumping for his political ventures. He is just a mormon MORON and he will never change, he is out of touch with everyone except for the 1%ers. He like his dad feels that there is a place for a woman and it's in the places I listed above. What a Village Idiot Liar Romney is. I voted yesterday and yes President Obama and VP Biden got my vote and yes I am proud of that. Voter suppression by the right wing-nuts, didn't stop me and don't let them try and stop you. Liar Romney this is for you...
****Liar Romney 1040****
Don't worry. If Romney wins and his Evangelical playboy playmates or his LDS look the other way at multiple marriage buds decide women should be in a burqa, he'd be for their religious right to enforce this on someone else s citizenship rights. He believes religious rights should over-shadow citizens legal rights, just like the Taliban does, like the Saudi "moral police" and the Catholic Hierarchy.
I don't understand such focus on women issues. For the love of god it is 2012!!! Exactly what women issues does the President have control over? From my understanding, Obama is talking all this talk, but when a senator, he paid men more than women. As President, didn't a woman in his administration resign because of the hassles she received being a woman? Women if you want to buy contraceptives for whatever reason, buy the damn contraceptives and shut the hell up!!! Even if the contraceptives are for cysts or whatever, why should I be responsible for paying for them? That would be like a diabetic demanding others to pay for their insulin. Ya'll need to give up on this lame *ss topic. How about employment numbers for women, for Blacks, for Hispanics, etc. Now that's something to talk about!!!!!
pandy -
He still does. It is not for naught that the Obama White House is considered an hostile work environment for women.
pandy - you are not asked to pay for contraceptives - it is being included in your insurance policy - prior to that women paid more for insurance policies - now no more
So pandy before you shoot your mouth off find out what the changes are - then come back and post
Now - as far as Blacks, Hispanics, and Women - they are all American citizens whether you like it or not - I take it you are White - so good for you - however you are not a White Woman or Man I would ever call a friend - just another ignorant self serving - I got mine idiot
I, being a woman, am just a bit peeved that Dems think that all we care about is our forms of birth control and whether or not we need access to free abortions. We are not in 1950, and do not need their party to protect us. We can think for ourselves and make our own decisions. And to some of us, getting home to fix dinner for our families is important, to some, equal pay may be more of an issue. But to all of us, the economy, being able to gas up our cars, whether it be to take them to our jobs or take our kids to ball practice, and yes, even national security is more of an issue than many on the left realize.
Which is why Obama will lose.
Nice. Republiturd MEN posting under women's names to make it look like there might actually BE a couple of dumb right wing broads around, besides Queen Ann Robme and Ann/Andrew Coulter.
Thanks for showing women the respect you have for them. You are a fine representative of the Left.
Any women that doesn't accept the left wing world view and doen't fall in lock step with them are dumb right wing broads that deserve to be insulted?
To all of the women posting on here - in The United Kingdom - alias England equal pay for equal work was settled in 1964 - when the women there went up against Ford and won
Today in England it is a settled issue - why are we so behind the times?
France has a policy of day care centers where it is regulated by the government - where women can safely drop off their children without fear of predators - what is wrong with that?
Why the resistance of health care for all?
What are you so afraid of? Government plays a role - and in this country you are being brain washed into thinking it doesn't
jennilee1959, I being a woman with daughters care about the future of their health care choices. I care about the economy as well. When ignorant politicians such as Aiken are professing to know how a womans body shuts down to prevent pregnancy, we have a problem. When women are prevented from speaking on the house floor because they used the word vagina....there is a problem.
I care about today's issues as well as the issues that will effect my daughters in the future. Gassing up my car to run to a soccer game, is a bit further down the line when it comes to my concerns. Further more, if you believe the president can raise or lower gas prices, you really should do some research. A president can introduce policies that may effect the prices, but it would take a very long time for you to see the results at the pump.
Birth control and other health care matters are a large part of many womens financial decisions. For that matter, it plays a large role on household budgets for the entire family. Why is that so hard for some women to understand. It's not just about you, or some 60 year old woman who could care less about contraception, its about families and women as a whole. It's about the future of our daughters and the choices that will be available to them.
That would be the line workers at Ford. I doubt very many of the posting liberal women on here this morning would lower themselves to the factory floor jobs the English women fought for equal pay for. My experience shows me that women who work on a factory floor don't care about the "issues" that you seem to hold dear to the extent that you do. They are more like Jennilee above. The women in England were standing right next to a guy doing the very same PHYSICAL jobs the men were and thus had a very good leg to stand on. Good for them. They deserved it. As for "pay me what I think I am worth because I deserve it due to my mere existence", not so much.
I don't know why anyone is saying Romney was vague on Woman's Issues. He was clear about how he thinks they need to be home in time to cook their husband's supper.
Oicy- Yes! Right after they tell their white male boss they can't work late...
That, we let them leave early nonsense is just that...nonsense. Women don't ask for special treatment, we ask for equal treatment. I was appalled that this jerk actually patted himself on the back for that idiotic statement.
This Obama speech explains why reelecting Obama condemns this country to suicide by Obama. Take notice of the word "DEBT" and how Obama explains its peril to our nation, our economy.
The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies.
And the cost of our debt is one of the fastest growing expenses in the Federal budget. This rising debt is a hidden domestic enemy, robbing our cities and States of critical investments in infrastructure like bridges, ports, and levees; robbing our families and our children of critical investments in education and health care reform; robbing our seniors of the retirement and health security they have counted on.
Every dollar we pay in interest is a dollar that is not going to investment in America’s priorities. Instead, interest payments are a significant tax on all Americans–a debt tax that Washington doesn’t want to talk about. If Washington were serious about honest tax relief in this country, we would see an effort to reduce our national debt by returning to responsible fiscal policies.
Increasing America’s debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that “the buck stops here. Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.
I therefore intend to oppose the effort to increase America’s debt limit.
Sen. Barack Hussein Obama, Jr., (Senate – March 16, 2006)
With Obama reducing the deficit $207 billion while adding $1.8 trillion to the national debt in the same time period ,this is explained as what kind of leadership in the above speech?
Obama's own words tell us that reelecting Obama condemns this country to suicide by Obama.
Mr. Romney belongs to an organization that loosely identifies itself as a variation of Christianity. In this faith, good men, when they die, get to have their own planet. Their wives get to tag along only at the man's discretion. This does not exactly embody a belief system that women matter (although females are seen as necessary for the production of children, similar to the views of many dog breeders). The 08 October issue of Time magazine featured a cover story titled "The Mormon Identity" and Mitzy is discussed in it. The photo of his family (page 31) is freakishly similar to the photos of the Heaven's Gate cult members (less the new tennis shoes).
Obsama still vague on any plans for the next four years. About what his plans were for the past four years to help guide this country back to prosperity. Any good that has happened is entirely fortuitous and none of his doing
Obama's plan for the next four years is to help Boehner grow a pair and take control of the House by telling the Tpers to shut up and then ask the Senate to amend their rules to limit debate as is done in the House and put an end to McConnell's filibusters.
Once the House starts acting like adults and the Senate is no longer hamstrung by endless filibusters then maybe something good for America and Americans will get on the agenda.
I suppose he's going to do that by flying around the country telling Congress to send him a bill and he will sign it.
His own budget proposals haven't received a single vote from his own party. His own party has failed to pass budgets, which they are required to do by law, in years so why hasn't he even told Reid to git his Sh&T together and start doing his Job?.
Obama makes the mistake of agreeing with conservatives and finally admits that Medicare and Social Security need to be reformed to much chagrin of the Left and Pelosi and Reid slap him down and put him in his place.
I think that's the best joke I have heard all night.
Women are behind President Obama, Pro-life women like me agree with VP Biden, we will not force our beliefs on to others, I take responsibility for myself...
But when you have people like Romney who wants to de-fund PP that over 3 million Women count on for, family planning, cancer screenings etc.....
Then you have Ryan who along with Akin, who think we Women have magical vaginas that can detect legitimate rape, and have little shields that go up when it detects legitimate rape sperm, it's gone to far!
Access to birth control cuts down on Abortions, that is real science!
Women like me worry about our daughters, granddaughters, sisters, friends.... We don't want to go back to the 1950's.
Romney doesn't even believe in fair pay for Women, and lied even about what he did as Governor, he didn't
reach out to those "Binders" full of Women.
O&JOE
You don't think Conservatives care about their Wives, Mothers, Sisters, Daughters, etc?
That's the picture your constantly trying to paint of all Conservatives and its just not true.
Please don't let me stop you from using scare tactics etc.
We know you are desperate.
Does Barack know that women under 30 years of age are paid more than men in that age group? Is Barack working to correct that inequity?
Bob - Back that up with facts - because it is not true - women make $.72 per $1.00 of male wages
And Bobbie every time you post it is a tissue of lies
Romney is not just vague on women's issues, he is vague on all issues. If Romney said how he really feels and released hard copies of his past tax returns, he would not only loose the election, but would also be in jail.
Darn, if Ron Paul had just ran as an independent and siphoned off part of the teabag and Taliban vote, the election would have been in Obama's bag long ago. Not that it isn't already.
I'm trying to remember Obama's detailed plans back in 2008 when he said he would fix the economy but all I can remember is "Hope and Change".
I'm trying to remember his detailed budget plans for how he was going to cut the deficit in half like he said he was going to do.
Here were are with the deficit spending increased two fold. All I remember is "I'm going to change the way Washington Works", "Redistribute the Wealth", "Lobbyist and special interests groups wont control my administration", etc
I remember Obama saying he was going to fight for Immigration Reform his first year in Office.
Romney has laid out a plan for fixing our economy, tax reform, fixing Medicare and Social security, Just because you don't agree with his plans doesn't mean he hasn't proposed any.
Perhaps your problem is that you think Romney should just walk in and act like a dictator and can tell Congress what and how they are going do it. It doesn't work that way. There are 435 representatives in Washington that he has to work with. That means leaving room for both sides to be able to discuss the issues and come up with the details.
I realize that perhaps your not familiar with how big organizations work. The CEO doesn't give the departments under him every little detail of how to accomplish a goal he sets. Its the departments job to figure out how to achieve the broader goals set.
Do you really think Steve Jobs was sitting at the Engineers table telling them how to create the integrated circuits going into an I-Pod? Do you really think Bill gates was telling theSofttware engineers how to program a web browser?
DAvid
The Obama supporters are hailing Obama's reducing the deficit by $207 billion in a year's time as a great success for Obama.
But they remain silent about Obama adding $1.8 trillion to the national debt in a year's time or that the deficit has remained at over a trillion dollars for each of the past four years.
Of course, with that performance, if Obama gets 4 more years he will have reduced the deficit by $828 billion while adding $7.2 trillion to the national debt. The difference can only mean that if Obama gets reelected it condemns our country to suicide by Obama as this nation can not support the debt Obama is creating.
Obama is getting really, really desperate!!
obama is getting desperate? where have you been fool? the Mitt speaks out of both sides of his mormon mouth. planned parenthood will go by the wayside, great news for women eh? i mean only in the most traumatic forms of sexual activity are women at this moment protected by the right wing. how pitiful a group of men on the right, and if you are a women and you vote for these mormon/catholic combination you be one stupid woman. name one thing the catholic church has done for women over the decades? how about those mormons, first to practice polygamy in the usa and thrown out of state after state for their cultish beliefs, but here in the usa there is freedom of religion so they continue to exist in a tax free bracket.
women get 33 cents less on the dollar than men, so can your argument about equal pay for women under 30, its not true, during wwll the women made the war machines, the airplanes, riveted wings and then when the war was over, toooo bad ladies but the men are back and you are now laid off, so go back to the bedroom, the kitchen and the nursing table.
step up women for obama/biden 2012 and give yourselves a chance at equality.
William Smith - Most interesting is even Joe Scarborough is disgusted with Willard's lack of respect for the Presidency
Plus I don't think the Women's movement started in the seventies - it started with "Rosie the Riveteer" when women realized they didn't have to go back to their abusive relationships and can make money to support themselves
Yes the government made a push - but there was a kernel of women that said BS - and that's when the women's movement took root
Now that Viagra has energized the male libido - they are fighting for their dominance - so sad - they will lose
Mitt was clear when he told Huckabee he'd sign a 'personhood bill' to outlaw abortion. He is deliberatley vague now, but picking Ryan for his running mate gave a clear signal they'll continue to attack women's reproductive health and welfare. He clearly didn't support Ledbetter legislation...why would any woman vote for Romney?
