Obama mocks Romney's 'binders' comment at post-debate rally

Updated 4:22 p.m. - MOUNT VERNON, IA -- President Barack Obama seized on Republican nominee Mitt Romney’s rhetoric and record on Wednesday with the same aggression he displayed during his second face-to-face meeting with Romney at last night's town hall debate.

President Obama delivers remarks at a grassroots event in Mount Vernon, Iowa, at Cornell College's Richard and Norma Small Multi-Sport Center.

Speaking this afternoon in Iowa, the president was quick to revive Romney's response Tuesday night to a question about pay equity between the sexes, in which he touted his record of hiring women as Massachusetts governor by saying he had “binders full of women” who were qualified to be hired.

“I’ve gotta tell you, we don’t have to collect a bunch of binders to find qualified, talented, terrific young women ready to work and teach in these fields right now!” Obama exclaimed as a crowd of 2,800 at Cornell College, outside Cedar Rapids, cheered.

Related: Sharp exchanges at second debate

He also hit Romney over his sales pitch for lowering taxes, saying Romney’s plan is not to be trusted because it contains so few specifics.

“Iowa, you know, everybody here's heard of the New Deal, you've heard of the Fair Deal, you've heard of the Square Deal. Mitt Romney's trying to sell you a sketchy deal,” he said, using the same adjective – “sketchy” – that he premiered last night at Hofstra.

Many of Obama's attacks were similar to those he voiced during last night's debate. That differed from Obama's post-debate appearance after his first debate versus Romney, where the president's attacks seemed as thought they came a day late.

Robert Gibbs, Senior Advisor for the Obama Campaign, joins The Daily Rundown's Chuck Todd to talk about the President's performance in the debate, and touches on the President's debate remarks on the 9/11 Libya attacks.

One such attack was ridiculing Romney’s “five-point plan” as a “one-point plan” given its lack of specifics and goal of, as Obama says, raising taxes on the middle class to pay for a tax cut for the wealthy.

Despite deploying lines Wednesday that he seemed to believe succeeded the night before, Obama still played down his own performance, telling the crowd that he’s “still trying to figure out how to get the hang of this thing, debating it.”

“But we’re working on it. We’ll keep on improving as time goes on. I’ve got one left,” he told the crowd.

And he has one campaign event left Wednesday, in the thick of the swing state of Ohio.

The Romney campaign responded to Obama's event with a response that noted Obama said at the debate, that "there are some jobs that are not going to come back" because of the uneven economic recovery.

"President Obama has no new ideas, no vision for the future, and is simply giving up. The choice in this election couldn’t be clearer. Mitt Romney has bold new ideas that will cut taxes for middle-class families, create 12 million new jobs with higher take-home pay, and cut spending to put our nation on a course toward a balanced budget,” spokesman Ryan Williams said in a statement.

1. Heard on Romney's "binders full of women" line that he did not speak true:

A bipartisan group trying to increase the number of women in government positions put the names together and GAVE THEM TO ROMNEY when he came into office.

2. Last night, Romney presented:

1. A tax plan that doesn't add up.
2. A jobs plan with no jobs.
3. A deficit plan that ADDs to the deficit.

President Obama was saying today - we've heard of the New Deal, the Fair Deal, the Square Deal - but Mitt Romney is trying on the Sketchy Deal.

If Romney was such a "for" women kinda guy, wouldn't one think that he wouldn't have had to go on a search for women? Shouldn't he have already had some professional women that he had previously worked with or known that he could have chosen for his cabinet? These are the questions that my girl friends and I pondered last night as we clearly saw and watched as President Obama owned the debate!

Great job, O!

1. A tax plan that doesn't add up.

But you can't add. You can't even recognize an answer when it is given to you time after time.

How many times have I posted the revenue generated by the Bush's tax cuts, the 2003 cuts that increased revenue 31% by 2007!

You have never been able to refute or even challenge it, yet you regurgitate your same willfull stupidity every day.

This stuff is just way over your head, huh?

How can you and Obama be so dense as to not understand the revenue generated by the 23 million un-underemployed paying taxes when they are fully employed, their spending / putting money back in to the economy buying stuff they couldn't afford the 4 years under Obama .... business expanding and growing, making investments in new trucks, equipment , etc.

Simple plan that has worked everytime .... the plan that built the country.

Obama's Hope and Change plan?

Proven failure.

That simple.

Btw - Please spare us the morons saying Bush's policies caused the recession ... the collapse was caused by a credit issue in the housing markets that threatened the collapse of the financial markets.

How do tax cuts force banks to make stupid home loans to people that can't afford them?

The latest seven-day tracking poll of likely voters shows Romney at 51 percent and Obama at 45 percent, up from 50-46 on Tuesday and 49-47 on Monday.

Mitt Romney leads President Obama by five percentage points among likely voters in the nation’s top battlegrounds, a USA TODAY/Gallup Poll finds, and he has growing enthusiasm among women to thank.

As the presidential campaign heads into its final weeks, the survey of voters in 12 crucial swing states finds female voters much more engaged in the election and increasingly concerned about the deficit and debt issues that favor Romney. The Republican nominee now ties the president among women who are likely voters, 48%-48%, while he leads by 12 points among men.

Apparently women have been moving from Obama to Romney.............looks like they aren't buying the whole War on Women dialogue.

Bob, you are clearly overlooking root cause of the financial crisis which led to the bank bailouts under Tarp. It started with the deregulation of the banking industry, beginning with the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act. A Republican bill which removed key provisions of the Glass-Steagall Act (which was passed in response to excesses of the financial industry in the 1920's which precipitated the Great Depression). By allowing consumer banks, investment banks and insurance companies to pursue business across banking platforms, it became possible to create the "securitized mortgages" derivatives which allowed the banks to "mix" good mortgages with bad ones, turn them into stocks, and sell them to each other. In addition, the reduced oversight and ridiculous VAR risk models used by the banking industry allowed the banks to take more risk (betting) than was allowed previously.

It would not have been possible for the banks to lose as much money as they did were it not for these factors. Due to the fact that so many had merged (Citigroup was under antitrust investigation before the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act passed) into "To Big To Fail" entities, there was substantial risk to the integrity of the entire US financial system.

Unfortunately, many have forgotten that almost this exact situation manifested in the late 1980's under very similar circumstances (see Garn-St. Germain Depository Institutions Act of 1982). So, in the final analysis, it was deregulation that allowed the "bubble" to get so large, tax cuts are just a distraction the illusionists use to obfuscate what is really going on.

To prevent repeats of history, we have to restore the protections of Glass-Steagall, no matter how much the banks whine about not making enough money.

Really u democrats forgot this date>>>>>

Remember
January 3rd 2007..

The day the
democrats took over was not January 22nd 2009 it was actually January 3rd 2007
the day the Democrats took over the House of Representatives and the Senate,
the start of the 110th Congress. The Democratic Party controlled a majority in
both chambers for the first time since the end of the 103rd Congress in 1995.

For those
who are listening to the liberals propagating the fallacy that everything is
"Bush's Fault", think about this:

January
3rd, 2007 was the day the Democrats took over the Senate and the Congress:

At the
time:

The DOW
Jones closed at 12,621.77

The GDP for
the previous quarter was 3.5%

The
Unemployment rate was 4.6%

George
Bush's Economic policies SET A RECORD of 52 STRAIGHT MONTHS of JOB CREATION!

Remember
the day...

January
3rd, 2007 was the day that Barney Frank took over the House Financial Services
Committee and Chris Dodd took over the Senate Banking Committee.

The
economic meltdown that happened 15 months later was in what part of the
economy?

BANKING AND
FINANCIAL SERVICES!!!

THANK YOU
DEMOCRATS for taking us from 13,000 DOW, 3.5 GDP and 4.6% Unemployment... to
this CRISIS by (among MANY other things) dumping 5-6 TRILLION Dollars of toxic
loans on the economy from YOUR Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac FIASCOS! (BTW: Bush
asked Congress 17 TIMES to stop Fannie & Freddie - starting in 2001 because
it was financially risky for the US economy).

And who
took the THIRD highest pay-off from Fannie Mae AND Freddie Mac????

OBAMA

And who
fought against reform of Fannie and Freddie???

OBAMA and
the Democratic Congress

This is nothing but a total liberal jacka$$ issue. What you don't want to acknowledge is that Romney recognized that women were going to be underrepresented in his cabinet and he took steps to correct the situation. That's the point. All of this blitheringly stupid nonsense about binders is based on the fact that you can't attack the steps he took and the outcome of the process - more women in high positions in the Romney administration in Mass. Grow up.

@steve

tell me Coral Taxi is it necessary for the gov to fund TV? Do you think PBS format would disappear or even better sesame street?

Yes and yes. Millions of people have learned their first numbers and letters, hygeine, fire safety, etc, from PBS. This is an outlet other than the parental units to teach kids on their level. I can still remember things from electric company and sesame street . Simple but effective.

Cutting funding to anything is usually the beginning of the end.

Too big to fail is an ideological fallacy that both parties have used.

Tell that to all the huge corporations that have went under in the last decade. I do not belive that rationale stands anywhere, anymore sir, where have you been?

I do not see the relation to politics with your last remark. They(candidates) do not travel the U.S night and day for months on end campaigning because they think they are too big to fail.

Romney came prepared with several men he wanted in his cabinet and was looking only at male candidates. A woman's group came to him with the names of qualified women; he did NOT go to them; he did NOT bring up the idea of hiring women. He did not hire even ONE female executive in his 15 years at the helm of Bain. Not one. After he left, they finally hired women and now have 7 out of 87 executives who are female (not a great number, but it's better than Romney's ZERO). Romney should have been asked how many women Bishops are in his church, and to explain the number.

Note how he gave respect to the men in the audience that asked him questions; the one person he disrespected was a woman; he turned away from her question to start arguing with the moderator and insisting he would talk instead about an issue from earlier.

Why do liberal men continue the tradition of using women so shamelessly?

In Wisconsin, Republican state Senator Randy Hopper, while claiming to still live with his wife, was actually living outside the district he represents with a much younger 25-year-old mistress.

NRCC (National Republican Congressional Committee) uses a strip club named Forty Deuce in Las Vegas for fundraiser gatherings with Pete Sessions in attendance. He claims there was no nudity involved. In Feb. 2009, Tao, another Las Vegas club of questionable family values and clothing requirements, was used.

RNC uses party funds to pay rich, young Republican donors to attend a Hollywood night club specializing in lesbians, bondage, and S&M.Washington Post March 30, 2010[7] Michael Steele appears to have authorized it at least indirectly as part of his "off the hook" PR campaign. A Young Republican who knew Steele personally named Erik Brown was involved.

Mike Duvall, a Republican politician and a former member of the California State Assembly, resigned after his sex comments were broadcast in Sept. 2009. In the video, the married family-values crusader from Yorba Linda talks in graphic detail about women he said he slept with -- at least one of whom appeared to be a lobbyist with business before the utilities committee on which Duvall sat as vice chairman.

Paul Stanley, Republican former member of the Tennessee Sen., resigned from the state Senate effective Aug. 10, after his affair with a 22-year-old intern and a subsequent extortion attempt was revealed to the public.

Mark Sanford, governor of South Carolina, disappears during Father's Day weekend, returning to confess an extramarital affair in Argentina.

John Ensign, Senator from Nevada, refuses to resign after confessing to an extramarital affair with a married staffer, claiming she was trying to extort him. Later, it was learned he was attempting to pay her and her husband off through his parents and finding them jobs.

And finally...

Matthew Joseph Elliott, former aide to Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, was convicted of sexual exploitation of a child.

My question is, why do conservative republican men continue the tradition of using women (and a CHILD) so shamelessly?

Except this is hardly the end of the list - it dates back to 1925 :

Strom Thurmond, Republican senator, aged 22, fathered a child on 16-year old African American maid working for his family.

BO - OBAMACARE

Have all of you libbies forgot about the unequal pay at the White House? Anita Dunn and Christine Romer were staffers in the White House at one time and have been quoted in a book criticizing the unequal pay woman within the Obama White House receive. Romar was also quoted at one time by a liberal journalist, Ron Suskind, that she felt treated like a "piece of meat" by Obama staffers. But I guess that stufff doesn't matter to liberal woman. It is hard to believe that any woman could have any respect for the left when they see the actions of people like scum bag Bill Clinton. He is held in such high esteem with the left and he is a scum bag when it comes to women.

Republicans always promise to balance the budget. They have never balanced one single budget. Republicans promised jobs in their 2010 campaign and they always go after Obama on unemployment stats. Where are the jobs? Where is a budget. Paul Ryan came out with a budget but people need to realize that he is the Chairman of the House Budget Committee. So where is the National budget now? In the Republican dream state! Many businesses that are pro-Republican refuse to hire now while Obama is President to purposefully hurt the employment record yet they still want tax deductions. Big Oil? I'm speaking directly to you! Romney hit on less drilling in our country but Obama brought out that big oil and gas drilling companies are just sitting on their leases so Obama is reselling those leases. Good move! Republican policies this century have sucked period! It is not necessarily Romney 'binders' but Republican 'blinders'! And Republican constituents have blinders on!

Why didn't the President tell us that? Did you know that he had a dinner with his female staff to let them air out their grieven, ces last year?? What, they aren't super happy to get less working for him, doing the same work as his male employees? I wonder if any of his female staffers will come out to do an interview? The women in binders comment was awkward and based on Romney's past record, could have been ad libbed because it was a convenient thing to say, in other words, a lie. In his case, as far as I'm concerned, he's a liar until proven innocent. I also don't recall him saying he hired any of those women. Maybe he didn't approve of their 8x10 glossies? Anyone can say they considered hiring women and claiming binders full of women doesn't prove anything.

JoeNY -- Obama's been President of the United States for the last four years and probably four more. He's digging us out of the mess left by GWB and doing a great job even with the obstructionists in Congress. I don't think his best years were in high school. Get a perspective.

Good question! We're glad you asked....

Melody C. Barnes

Valerie Jarrett

Chairwomen of the Securities and Exchange Commission

Kathleen Sebelius
Secretary of Health and Human Service

Hilda L. Solis
Secretary of Labor

Sonia Sotomayor
Supreme Court Justice

Nancy Sutley

And those are only a listing of senior administration members or appointees. Does the "pinhead" who posed the ridiculous question have anymore stupid questions?

How come O didn't say anything in support of his policies? Two years ago he said the economy couldn't take a tax increase on even the rich. Now, his only policy proposal is to tax the rich more. Never mind that it won't make a dent in the deficit or do anything to spur the economy (actually it will hurt the economy), but the point is that people are going to feel great for 15 seconds knowing the "rich" are being punished. That's the Obama policy in a nutshell. Well, actually, that's the Obama plan in full!

Witch, it has nothing to do with punishing anyone. We are only asking the wealthy to pith in more to help decrease the deficit. Look at the number of millionaires made in the last 4 years. The tax rate for the wealthy has been at a record low point now for more than a decade, and it has done zero for jobs. The strongest job growth has been in small businesses that make less than $250,000 a year in net profits. They continue to invest in and grow their business.

Romney on the other hand wants to eliminate estate taxes, eliminate taxes on dividends and capital gains, reduce the tax burden of the wealthy, all the while refusing to come up with a single specific way to pay for this.

The choice in 2012 is clear. If you are rich, vote for Romney. If you are an average American in the middle class, vote for Obama.

How many times have I posted the revenue generated by the Bush's tax cuts, the 2003 cuts that increased revenue 31% by 2007!

How many times does it have to be pointed out that the deficits exceeded revenue during the Bush administration. Bush also engaged in deficit spending, and Paul (Mr. Numbers) Ryan voted in favor of Bush's deficit spending.

Deficit spending and tax cuts are in order when the economy is collapsing, as it was when Obama took office. Deficit spending and tax cuts when the economy is already in good shape, as it was when Bush took over from Clinton, only overheats the economy and ultimately leads to economic collapse. Incompetent regulatory oversight didn't help much, either.

A. He said he was given binders not that he asked for binders.

B. What difference would it matter if he had specified "binders full of women's resumes"... other than not giving simple-minded liberals something to giggle at?

Did the liberals giggle every time the word "duty" was spoken too?

Romney just specified that he was actively seeking to hire women and the best that liberals can do is giggle at the wording and pretend that is somehow means he is against women... and they do this just days after Obama threw Hillary under the bus and destroyed her political future.

Just when you think Democrats can't behave any more juvenile or hypocritical they always do something to stoop to new levels.

1. A tax plan that doesn't add up.
2. A jobs plan with no jobs.

Mind The Binder

Published Oct 16 2012, 10:46 PM by David S. Bernstein

Hey, I know about that binder! And guess what -- Mitt Romney was lying about it.

From the rush transcript:

CROWLEY: Governor Romney, pay equity for women?

ROMNEY: Thank you. An important topic, and one which I learned a great deal about, particularly as I was serving as governor of my state, because I had the chance to pull together a cabinet and all the applicants seemed to be men.

And I -- and I went to my staff, and I said, "How come all the people for these jobs are -- are all men." They said, "Well, these are the people that have the qualifications." And I said, "Well, gosh, can't we -- can't we find some -- some women that are also qualified?"

And -- and so we -- we took a concerted effort to go out and find women who had backgrounds that could be qualified to become members of our cabinet.

I went to a number of women's groups and said, "Can you help us find folks," and they brought us whole binders full of women.

I was proud of the fact that after I staffed my Cabinet and my senior staff, that the University of New York in Albany did a survey of all 50 states, and concluded that mine had more women in senior leadership positions than any other state in America.

Now one of the reasons I was able to get so many good women to be part of that team was because of our recruiting effort.

Not a true story.

What actually happened was that in 2002 -- prior to the election, not even knowing yet whether it would be a Republican or Democratic administration -- a bipartisan group of women in Massachusetts formed MassGAP to address the problem of few women in senior leadership positions in state government. There were more than 40 organizations involved with the Massachusetts Women's Political Caucus (also bipartisan) as the lead sponsor.

They did the research and put together the binder full of women qualified for all the different cabinet positions, agency heads, and authorities and commissions. They presented this binder to Governor Romney when he was elected.

I have written about this before, in various contexts; tonight I've checked with several people directly involved in the MassGAP effort who confirm that this history as I've just presented it is correct -- and that Romney's claim tonight, that he asked for such a study, is false.

I will write more about this later, but for tonight let me just make a few quick additional points. First of all, according to MassGAP and MWPC, Romney did appoint 14 women out of his first 33 senior-level appointments, which is a reasonably impressive 42 percent. However, as I have reported before, those were almost all to head departments and agencies that he didn't care about -- and in some cases, that he quite specifically wanted to not really do anything. None of the senior positions Romney cared about -- budget, business development, etc. -- went to women.

Secondly, a UMass-Boston study found that the percentage of senior-level appointed positions held by women actually declined throughout the Romney administration, from 30.0% prior to his taking office, to 29.7% in July 2004, to 27.6% near the end of his term in November 2006. (It then began rapidly rising when Deval Patrick took office.)

Third, note that in Romney's story as he tells it, this man who had led and consulted for businesses for 25 years didn't know any qualified women, or know where to find any qualified women. So what does that say?

Mormons like their women subservient in the kitchen and pregnant.

Women in Mormonism are not allowed to hold any priesthood power or major authority positions in the Mormon Church, excluding Relief Society and lower Church callings. Mormon women are often thought of as second class citizens in Mormonism. Men in Mormonism make all of the decisions from the top hierarchy of the LDS Church from the Prophet down to the Bishops. This binder's issue is dumb. The really interesting issue though is how terribly the President has done at his job.

The problem with Obama is he's stuck in academia-land. He buddied around with 'smart' embittered liberal types having deep discussions on the ills of man and how unfair things are, conjuring up fairy-tale scenarios based on failed European Socialism and a drive for forced equality and 'fairness'.

The truth is he doesn't have a clue how to really solve problems. All he knows is how to whip people into a frenzy with a bunch of slippery rhetoric that glimmers like pig sh!t covered in gold.

Watching Robme scurrying around in the debate like an old 80 year old man was kind of sad, then my wife said that is what happens when you dont do any physical work your whole life, you just fire people and send jobs to china, I bet he did not even try and build his sons a fort or tree house, he just called in the workers and had them build it. The man has no work ethic

And his wife Queen Ann, what in life has she accomplished? Giving Birth to 5 more cult members, No work ethic, The maids, cleaners, cooks, butlers, Nanny's, They did all the work so Queen Ann could do ZILCH. The look she gave POTUS Obama after Obama kicked her husbands butt in the debate says it all, she is a contemptuous person, She has gotten everything she has from her Husband and has done nothing in her sorry life

Well women, it's obvious that Romney wants to keep a list of you in a binder and have his way with you.

Don't pay any attention to the $4 trillion debt that Obama is asking your mothers and daughters to pay though, because Romney wants to keep you in a binder, and put blacks back in chains.

Romney's positions shift as easily as the wind changes direction...

He lied last night on several issues, including contraception. His own campaign and Paul Ryan both stated that Romney would repeal the contraception mandate on day one in the White House.

How does the Mormon church feel about contraception? Take a look at their health insurance exclusions:

“family planning, including contraception, birth control devices, and/or sterilization procedures,”

Actually I don't give a rip about the binder remark and I'm surprised that the President of the United States would think it's cute to continue making remarks about it.

I want him to address the question about gas being $1.68 a gallon when this clown took office and it is now over $4.00 per gallon. Actually, I can manage that price for my car for now. The problem is that this increase has also driven up my heating fuel. I'm paying over $4.00 per gallon to heat my home and winter is already here.

I have to admit that I have been unable to find it but I've heard several people say that Obama stated early in his presidency that gas had to get way more expensive before people would start reducing their consumption. Tell that to Al Gore and bring on some of his "Global Warming."

Laura

If Obama's policies have had such a negative effect on the price of gas, why then was it over $4.00 per gallon during the Summer of 2008? It's very dishonest to say that gas prices have doubled under Obama. The only reason they got so low for a few months was the global economy collapsed, at the end of 8 years of republican rule. Do you remember which President that happened under?

ray in jax: The problem with libs when discussing economics is that they see everything as one pie that gets divided out. The fact is that the economy doesn't work that way. Yes, the tax rates have gone down and every time the tax rates are reduced the economy grows and the government raises more money. Every time taxes are increased, the economy slows. Oh, and since
Reagan started the tax cuts that jolted us out of the Carter economy, which was a lot worse than what Obama inherited, the percentage of taxes paid by the "rich" has actually increased! So, the rich has paid more in taxes and a higher percentage of the income taxes. To a lib, they just don't have the knowledge to understand how that can be so. They see things as if one person has it that means they took it from someone else. Just look at Bill Gates. He is very wealthy. He invested his own money and time and took the risks. It has paid off. In libland, he would never have been allowed to be so successful. Of course, he also made a lot of people very rich also. They're called "employees." I suppose you could look at it as he was "redistributing" his wealth, just that he was sharing it with people who put their own sweat into it. It always works out better that way. It creates wealth and makes the pie bigger. Another thing libs don't seem to understand.

You also have no idea of what a "small business" is. They're not talking about only the Mom & Pop convenience store. "Small businesses" can still employ hundreds of people.

And Jax, just what policies of Obama's are designed to help the economy and how?

"...How many times have I posted the revenue generated by the Bush's tax cuts..."

That's an oxymoron.

By definition, you can NOT generate revenue with tax cuts because when you "cut taxes" you, in fact, are "cutting revenue".

"Taxes" ARE "revenue". That is no doubt why the IRS is named the "Internal Revenue Service".

Last thing they want to do is look at Obama's record and face the fact that his policies have lengthened the economic malaise. It's silly how the topic of the day is about binders full of names of qualified woman. Romney made a very good point against the liberal lie that conservatives hate women. Can't you women see who your real enemy is. You're being used.

Mitt Romney may be guilty of violating Massachusetts State Law.

If Mitt Romney's tall tale actually happened as he claims it did, then isn't he guilty of Sexual Discrimination... against men?

If, as he put it, "there weren't enough qualified women, so we had to go find some" and they effectively chose to hire based more on gender then on qualifications, then that is a blatant violation of Massachusetts' Equal Opportunity Employment laws which state that "it is illegal to discriminate on the basis of race, color, religious creed, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, genetic information, military service, age, ancestry, or disability."

There are two reasons you can never tell what Romney's really saying.

1) He changes his stance for every audience (wide one with the base, narrow in public), and

2) He uses 'weasel words" like "I need a new accountant" instead of answering the question.

Notice what he said about his tax cut. He didn't say that he DOESN'T plan to cut $5 trillion in taxes.

What he SAID was that he doesn't plan to add it to the deficit.

Now, anybody who can do arithmetic knows there aren't enough "loopholes and deductions" to pay for $5 trillion in tax cuts.

So, what Romney is saying is that the REST is coming out of the FEDERAL BUDGET. From food stamps, unemployment benefits, infrastructure funds, Medicaid, education funding, Medicare as we know it for ALL of us, increasing the Social Security retirement age, the Centers for Disease Control, FDA, EPA, etc. etc. (Notice how he talks about the STATES providing services. With what money?) In fact, the Tax Policy Institute said that Romney's plan would REDUCE FEDERAL REVENUES BY 24%.

So we should ask ourselves - are we willing to give up all that to give millionaires ANOTHER tax break?

Because that's the bottom line, folks.

Witchrunner: The problem with conservatives is, they live in an echo chamber full of blind beliefs entirely unconnected with reality.

You said: "...every time the tax rates are reduced the economy grows and the government raises more money. Every time taxes are increased, the economy slows." Of course, If you actually bothered to look up the data on the subject, say, from the Bureau of Economic Statistics, you'd see that the average growth when the tax rates are max 35% is about 1.7%. Average growth when the tax rates are max 40% is just under 4%. Average growth when the tax rates are max 80% is just over 4.5%. That's the exact opposite of what you said, with nonpartisan numbers. But you continue to live in your ideologically pure world, because it's happier there.

And by the way, Bill Gates made the bulk of his money when Clinton was president, and tax rates were higher. And he's recently called for raising taxes.

And sorry, there is not a single economist who thinks the stagflation of the 70's has any comparison to the economic collapse of 2008. I have not heard anyone call the malaise of the late 70's the 'worst economic collapse since the Great Depression', and yet I can't turn around without hearing that about the crisis that froze credit markets, toppled huge banks, took 9 points off our GDP in one quarter, sucked trillions of dollars out of the middle class, and led to a global crisis. If you need to compare the two as equal economic downturns, then you are trying to make a point that can only exist in your echo chamber, where the Great Recession was just a little bump in the road that Obama should have been able to easily fix in no time.

The problem with Romney on women's concerns may be the fact that he has advisers like this guy.And he has adopted their beliefs:

      From Andrew Berber:
"Look at Ann Romney to find out what a Real woman is! We've tried for years to let women act like men, IT DOESN'T WORK! For our country to be successful, we need more real women who are willing to help their men be men! It's no surprise so many men turn gay every minute in our country."

But even with this disaster. At least Romney has FINALLY shown America his TAX PLAN.

Heck, they still haven't come out and told the families of the victims what has happened. Personally, I can't think of any conclusion other than the fact that the administration has been lying and covering up what happened.

But, I suppose if you watched the debate without a brain then you could conclude that Obama won. But, if you are interested in facts and trying to find out who to vote for in this abysmal economy that Obama has done nothing to improve, then you can't help but conclude that 4 more years of Obama will be an absolute catastrophe!

Aside from the fact that most right wing posts seem to barf out the same tired, irrelevant talking points (ie. Obama has "failed"), are you better off now, etc, what is astounding is that the ipso facto logic that many of these fools have is that Obama hasn't been able to restore a raging economy from one of the worst collapses in our history in only four years...ERGO....Romney is a great choice. The fact of the matter is that even the most aggressive policies in the world would probably still just be getting roots locked into the soil at this point and while Obama may not be the greatest, you have to be an idiot to think that Romney is a better choice. Seriously, for one second you fools...just imagine the table flipped 180 degrees here and imagine that a Mitt Romney candidate (policies different but behavior the same) were running for president. Just try to imagine what you would be saying about his flip flops, endless contradictions, gafs, mookey comments...just imagine how hard you would lay into him....but you cant because you are as blinded as knee-jerk Obama fans who this he is the second coming. This is response to a couple of posts way back. The topic was what caused the 2008 recession, the greatly condensed narrative goes something like this, that the housing/mortgage collapse, was caused by deregulation of banking and securities institutions. More specifically, mortgage derivatives were identified as the main culprit. Democrats and the accomplice liberal media gave100% of the blame to republicans. Everyone with me so far? Here's were the blame shifts though, everything was fine until 2007 when energy prices began to rise significantly do to a prospering U.S. and world economy. In response, President Bush submitted a comprehensive energy policy to increase supply, thus hold prices in check, Democrats who took control of congress in 2007, sat on this and refused to address the issue, in essence pulling the trigger for the great economic collapse. BUT, there is one more very important factor, that being the actions of congress under Clinton, in an effort to increase home ownership, made it very easy for people who previously had not been qualified, eligible for home mortgages. As long as the cost of living remained more or less the same, these people were able to pay their mortgages, however once energy prices began going up, along with everything else, these people could no longer afford their homes. The derivatives were developed as a hedge against default against these high risk loans in a normal economy. In short had the democrats never changed the original criteria banks used to approve a loan, the derivatives would have never came into being. So you see, the real root cause for the 2008 recession can be traced directly to liberal democrat policies.

And all that talk about the binders and home in time to cook dinner (really?) was to disguise the fact that Romney was unwilling to say that he was in favor of equal pay for equal work. How can that be an issue in the year 2012? We have to infer that he thinks it is OK to pay men and women doing the exact same job differently.

Romney could not find any qualified women because there are none in his little world. The glass ceiling is alive and well in Robmeland. Ya know, they did not choose Palin because she is smart.

He probably had the binders full of women as a money saving plan - he could hire a full crew of men at full price, or put three women on the crew and split one man's salary between the three of them.

As a woman and a feminist, I didn't mind the binder comment. While he probably knew many competent women, I'm glad that he was willing to consider individuals (men and women) from outside of his close circle. Like others, the making dinner comment and the failure to realize that equal pay for equal work are foundational issues for many women.

Bottom line, we have a choice between below average, and below average.

A major downplay of recent terrorist attacks, an overall lack of job creation, a failed immigration reform plan, failure to balance a budget, doubling of our national debt and all I hear people talk about are binders and big bird. Get your priorities straight people. Why are you putting so much stock in the little stuff?

Does cutting government funding for PBS (making them do what all other tv stations have to do) outweigh blaming a terrorist attack on a Youtube video, laying down for people who want to eliminate us, and detaining a person for expressing their first amendment right when they did not in fact incite a riot or contribute to these deaths?

Does Romney's binders comment in anyway tell you that Romney wants to oppress women? Obama and Romney echoed each other on women's rights issues. Nobody wants to pay them less because they are women.

These arguments against Romney are rhetoric and tiresome counting only on soundbites. I voted for Obama last time but I am unimpressed with what he has done in the last four years and I am even less impressed with his attack plan in these debates.

Why are there binders full of women? Were there binders full of men, also? Were there binders for rich, white guys? Left-handed people? Maybe even binders for Utah residents claiming Mass. residency?

This whole binder thing sounds like a real "diversity" thing: One from Binder 2 and 3 from Binder 6 and 2 from Binder 4......

The number of Binders a person was in - their Binder Count - became critical to their employment chances.

Next time, pick a better candidate: One that doesn't talk bizarrely about Big Bird during a serious debate, or make it painfully obvious he doesn't know any female professionals b/c he's never hired or wanted to work with any, despite decades in the business world.

And he still refuses to say whether he supports the Fair Pay act.

                        http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2128513/Women-paid-significantly-Obama-White-House-male-counterparts.html

Turns out that the President talks a good talk, but walks a different walk when it comes to his own staff. 18% less pay for the women that work for him on average. That's very progressive of him, isn't it?

Back to reality, most of the women I know would be really happy if their bosses gave them more of a flexible schedule to deal with their family issues. I don't see why you feel that Romney's explanation of that is denegrating to women. OK, I do- you are Obama supporters.

If you are really concerned with women's rights and women's issues, why is it that you aren't very vocal about the destruction of women's rights around the world at the hands of radical Islam? There are plenty of articles around about how women are actively being shut out of society. There are plenty of articles about women's (lack of) rights in defending themselves and under the law. There are plenty of articles about how preserving a family's honor (even here in the US) is leading to the murders of daughters. Maybe you ought to get riled up about that too.

                        Just something to think about.

And how about how Mitt slammed single moms and dads (and I presume gay couples, although they probably don't even exist in Mitt's world) by saying we'd have less gun violence if there were more married moms and dads in homes.

I'm also VERY surprised that the press didn't pick up on this comment. Romney seemed to stop in mid sentence and began to back track on his words as he realized the gaffe as it happened. Why didn't many other people pick up on that comment?

But let me mention another thing, and that is parents. We need moms and dads helping raise kids. Wherever possible, the — the benefit of having two parents in the home — and that's not always possible. A lot of great single moms, single dads. But gosh, to tell our kids that before they have babies, they ought to think about getting married to someone

Oh, Ray! Hey, I was so beyond pissed when Romney "went there" about single women/men with children, households. How completely mean and out of touch. Being a single parent by choice, divorce, death of a spouse, etc. does not mean that children will be more prone to violence or bad or illegal behavior. I am a single divorced parent raising my daughter since she was 5 years old without any financial help or fatherly input from her loser father. My daughter is a wonderful young woman and a productive member of society. I know many women and men whose children have not suffered from a one parent home. Would Romney rather that I raise my daughter in the very physically abusive home that my ex husband had been putting me through, soon to start on her? I cannot stand Romney and I have not seen one thing from that man that I even come close to agreeing with. Nov. 6th cannot get here fast enough!

And how exactly was Romney going to get all these businesses to be more flexible, so that the women can get home to cook supper? Was Mr Free-market, Too-Many-Regulations proposing to pass a flexibility law regulating business? Just exactly how stupid does he think we are?

Wouldn't it be nice to crap gold? I just think that'd be super. That would be my suggestion to cure our problems.

rgray1965 -- The answer is simple. Obama's brother needs to work harder. If he does, he'll be a millionaire. Poor people simply don't work hard enough. (sarcasm)

Seriously, if you're anti-Obama, you're probably pro-Romney. So why are you feeling sorry for poor people? That goes against everything Romney and Ryan stand for.

AlaskaGirl Mr Obama and the dem's have said the same thing single parent household are more pron.

A general thought What I find hard to understand is how we have went to the stage of adding to what someone said like it is the truth. Also The same man that is saying Romeny isn't giving details ran on the same type of message few details and preached hope and change. When he wanted to get elected but now that he needs to get relected. He complains about the lack of details in the Romney plan but it was fine for him to do the same thing in 08.

People step away from the one liners and 30 sec sound bits the reporters give u for drama effect. It's not a pretty picture when the proofness of cherry picking numbers is takin away. If we want all the social programs then look in the mirror and ask yourself how much are you willing to pay. Because what doesnt add up is the idea if you take the money from the rich it will fix the countries ill's. It won't not even close also all your retirement plans that require a company to make profit to raise shareholder value. Companys have cut workers and stream lined vendors to save, so profits increased shareholder value.

When these people now longer want to deal with the hassle, Will you be the one to step up and lead? Will you take the risk and work the hrs to have the goverment tell you...... oh you make 250k now your rich but we still need you to take the risk and work the hrs what would you say? This divide and conquer tactic has been used so many time but we still fall for it.

what i dont understand is the people that want all the social programs why are you here? There are plenty of countries that have these move there. Oh wait thats right most are broke or well on there way. You know what they are having to do cut social programs because they sold people a lie. one more time look at the countries that have all the social programs who are cutting them and taxing the people. To get loans to stay afloat..... now do the math if the interest rate say goes up just 1% on our total debt.

Your taxes will have to go up to pay the interest and afford the programs you want. why is it in our personal households we have to control debt but our goverment can keep borrowing then tell us we have to pay for it with our tax dollars? treasurydirect.gov from 09-12 interest paid 1.6 trillion now ask what could we have done with that money ? If you want all the programs thats fine but don't complain when the rich don't have anymore to give. And they come knocking on your door remmeber this is what we all wanted.

Do a little fact checking and you will see that Obama pays his female employees less than the men in his campaign. Easy enough to say you will fix the economy? As I recall, that's exactly what the fraud in the White House promised and failed to do. Also promised to cut the deficit in half and has doubled it. If you really believe Mitt Romney will prevent you from getting an abortion, equal pay, or contraception, you are definitely drinking the koolaid. With four daughters, you obviously chose life and I bet you are happy you did. Look at the last four years objectively and ask yourself if this president has done anything to help this country. He has been an absolute failure by any measure.

both chambers for the first time since the end of the 103rd Congress in 1995.

                                For those
who are listening to the liberals propagating the fallacy that everything is
                                "Bush's Fault", think about this:

                                January
3rd, 2007 was the day the Democrats took over the Senate and the Congress:

                                At the
                                time:

                                The DOW
                                Jones closed at 12,621.77

                                The GDP for
                                the previous quarter was 3.5%

                                The
                                Unemployment rate was 4.6%

                                George
Bush's Economic policies SET A RECORD of 52 STRAIGHT MONTHS of JOB CREATION!

                                Remember
                                the day...

                                January
3rd, 2007 was the day that Barney Frank took over the House Financial Services
Committee and Chris Dodd took over the Senate Banking Committee.

                                The
economic meltdown that happened 15 months later was in what part of the
                                economy?

                                BANKING AND
                                FINANCIAL SERVICES!!!

                                THANK YOU
DEMOCRATS for taking us from 13,000 DOW, 3.5 GDP and 4.6% Unemployment... to
this CRISIS by (among MANY other things) dumping 5-6 TRILLION Dollars of toxic
loans on the economy from YOUR Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac FIASCOS! (BTW: Bush
asked Congress 17 TIMES to stop Fannie & Freddie - starting in 2001 because
it was financially risky for the US economy).

                                And who
took the THIRD highest pay-off from Fannie Mae AND Freddie Mac????

                                OBAMA

                                And who
fought against reform of Fannie and Freddie???

                                OBAMA and
                                the Democratic Congress

                                So when
some one tries to blame Bush...

                                REMEMBER
JANUARY 3rd, 2007.... THE DAY THE DEMOCRATS TOOK OVER!" Bush may have been
in the car but the Democrats were in charge of the gas pedal and steering wheel
                                they were driving.

When the Democrats regained tenuous control of the 110th Congress in 2007, filibusters by the new Republican minority skyrocketed. Following the landslide victory of Barack Obama and progressive Democrats in 2008, there was a clear mandate for change in reform in America, yet the 111th should set a new record for filibusters as part of a clear pattern of obstruction from those who do not want change or reform.

The Democrats did not "take over" the government. Your Boy never vetoed a thing until 2007 when it was already too late to stop the Great Recession. That did not stop you from setting record after record for number of filibusters ever.

This 2 parent household he's talking about is becoming more and more rare and I don't think is nearly as important as education (and economics) are to preventing violent crime.

but the education and economics also come from a co parenting house hold. The statitics show that there are greater benefits to two parent household then not. Thats ok vote Obama and do it so ignorantly. Who am I to burst that blissfully ignorant bubble.

Romney has blinders of blunders filled in Binders!!!!!!!!!!!

If you believe Romney's comment about searching his "binders of women's folders", then you're the among the most ignorant fools on this planet. He doesn't even begin to come across as sincere. But instead just a flaming J.A. And for those who still can't make up their mind as to whom to vote for at this late in the game, then you are doing nothing but grandstanding for your 15 minutes Hall of Fame on National TV. Perhaps, too, this is just a media political pandering scheme to keep their ratings high through using the undecided voters to gain their objectives. Then ask yourself who owns that particular media source (i.e. Koch Brothers, etc., etc.)??? Also, if you don't know whom to vote for by now, then perhaps you have no business voting at all.

Go and vote for Obama/Biden for 2012!! And then vote a straight democratic ticket from there on down until the GOP reforms their attitude of arrogance, and is willing to sit down to some real work with negotiations and compromise without holding out for only the elite benefits. They don't need anymore money than they already have. They just brainwashed themselves into believing that they do.

                                Wow, how presidential.

Caesar - I'm sure most single parents would prefer to have a partner to help carry the financial and emotional burden and help raise the children. Unfortunately, things don't always work out that way. It's a little cold and insensitive to suggest that being a single parent is some kind of frivolous choice.

Romney never said one single about single parenthood being frivolous choice. THe simple truth of the matter is that kids are better off if their parents finish school, get a decent job, have the money to support a child and are willing and able to face and take care of their responsibilities if they stay together for life or not. Teen parenthood, single parent to people who aren't able to make it without assistance are HUGE problems in this country right now. We did go from an uptight very prude nation with strict moral rules to a society where pretty much anything and everything goes!! Unless your 12 or a huge liar you all no that alot has change from the 1950's to now and a hell of alot of those changes have NOT been for the better. THere's not one damn thing wrong to try and bring back some morals and values without forcing that agenda on everyone but holding it up as a better way to behave. Way too many Americans these days put way too little value on their bodies, see sex as a phyical activity just for fun as opposed to something you share with one person at a time that you actually give two cents about. KNocked up, go get an abortion, quick..easy..doesn't cost all that much money..do it then fugetaboutit!! right??? NOthing wrong with thinking twice before we make mistakes like that, nothing wrong with taking proper precautions, nothing wrong witn actually being abstinent if we don't have a partner we care about respect and at least hope to share a future with. Seems like many anti-Romney people are folks who forgot what self respect, appreciation for morals and values, respect for others etc.. etc.. are all about. You've got to hate somebody who wants better than that for Americans, right??..yeah, only if your an idiot!!!!

The only one hating on women is Obama - he threw Hilary Clinton and Susan Rice under the bus. What good little Stepford employees they are. Get a clue. The only thing Owebama has done is spent $16 trillion dollars of our money and we have nothing to show for it. BO is a GANGSTER THUG who doesn't know how NOT TO LIE! ROMNEY 2012

Mr. Romney, If “Government does not Create Jobs!!!”, then why are you applying for the highest paid government job in the US, that has the most over the top pension and perks?!?!?!? Does this mean you will work totally absolutely FREE as the president if elected??!!??!!

Kim--if Romney is elected and gets the estate tax repealed, his family will save hundreds of millions of dollars. If his income taxes (and those of his family) are lowered, he'll save tens of millions of dollars. Yet something tells me he'll still collect that salary.

@Kim...if you did some research, you'll find that Romney actually DID work for FREE during his entire 4 years as Governor of MA, during his 3 years running the Olympics, and during his 10 years as leader of his church. I'm sure he will continue this pattern when he is elected President.

the government doesnt create jobs. my favorite politician line. they say it, and then, later, they tell you how many jobs they will create if elected. or, how many jobs they created as a governor. its the biggest bs ever.

Himself? Hundreds of millions in tax cuts for himself.

When Arnold was governor in Ca he worked for free too. Can any one of you stupid dems. name one dem that has worked for free, because they all have off shore acounts just like Romney, proven last night? Did you notice how Hollywood Obama avoided that bullet. I 'm sorry my husband makes more than the president, so it is not a rocket scienitist job, look at Obama. He wants to share the wealth so why does he not work for free and stop using Air Force One for all his vacation's etc. Taxpayers pay that gas bill. Could image how much taxpayers would save, he's been on vacation for 4 years. Romney at least knows how to run a business and still trying to figure out how Obama got his money? The problem with all you stupid liberals is that you keep attacking Romney on his money istead of how smart he is. You could tax all the millionairs in the US and that still would not put a dent in the trillions that Obama has added. People like Steve Wynn in vegas he hired more people in all his hotels then what Obama keeps bragging about and I would sure like to see where those jobs are. People who have money start business's and hire people. All you idiots who keep attacking the rich, get your heads out of your ass's because you would be no different if you had money.

I wouldn't be surprised if he did work for free. The minimal amount a president makes is nothing in comparison to what he already has. He could make way more in the private sector. When he was referring to the govt. does not create jobs...he was referring to govt. jobs. While they can create some with road building and things like that it is nothing compared to the private sector and costs you as the taxpayer more. What the govt. can do is create an environment ie tax incentives that help businesses start up and grow.

                                    Vicki,

so why does he not work for free and stop using Air Force One for all his vacation's etc.

The President has Air Force One because the people of the US of A want our President to travel in style and in safety - NO MATTER WHO the President happens to be.

If you don't like Obama flying AF 1 at tax payers's expense, then tell your Congressman and Senators to stop funding it for all Presidents, and to stop requiring the Pres to use it.

If your ONLY complaint about Obama is using AF 1, then I'm not sure who you are gonna vote for that will not use AF 1.

Or maybe you just don't like Obama using it.

Bain didn't buy successful businesses and run them into the ground. That's not what companies like Bain do, no matter how much Kool Aid you drink. If anything, Bain enabled workers who were bound to lose jobs quickly to work a little (or more) longer.

The "estate tax" is theft double-time...... the TAXES have been paid for EVERYTHING once.... someone dies.... and that allows the government to tax EVERYTHING AGAIN? How is that fair to anyone? And don't think it's just for the ultra-rich...... how many of you have large life insurance policies that pay double or triple if death is accidental?

That could cost your family dearly if something happens to you

                                    Would that be fair?

If you look at your REAL tax burden, you'd find the middle-class are paying 50% right now... gas tax, income tax, sales tax, etc, etc, etc..... everything has a TAX attached to it.... having your DEATH taxed is just wrong..........

Why is it so hard for libs to understand something so simple and basic...Obama is rich, he is not working as POTUS for nothing, he is not working as POTUS due to some agenda that he owes America his sercive, out of the goodness of his heart or any bullcrap reason like that. Why do you fools think everyone buys this crap that Obama is any different than Romney, that he is any better than Romney, that his motives are any more altruistic than Romneys' etc.. etc.. etc.. You aren't getting away with the lies that democratic politicians are saints and republicans are evil etc.. Get over it!!

Yeah Sal C2006 and trading in one guy you consider a disaster for a guy who wants to double down on policies which have slowly been eating this country alive like cancer since 1980 is a wicked good idea? Have you even looked around and the towns and cities in this country. We aren't doing fine and it is not purely the fault of the democrats. This is shared blame all around and if you think that choosing a guy who is going to ramp up harder on policies that clearly have been leading to a steady decline than you're an F-ing moron.

Romney is still running for a job created by government - whether or not he takes a salary.

junkfood johnny # 4.2 makes a good point about job creation by government:

the government doesnt create jobs. my favorite politician line. they say it, and then, later, they tell you how many jobs they will create if elected. or, how many jobs they created as a governor. its the biggest bs ever.

Does anybody remember when wealthy folks were just rich, and when capitalists created wealth? When the capitalist starts creating jobs instead of wealth, he'll soon find his wealth slipping away.

Yea, maybe next time Romney will say the word "duty" and you can giggle like adolescent boys and pretend that it means something.

I mean, what could be possibly be more important than the format that resumes were presented in for review? (sarcasm)

This is what the "leader" of the U.S. is using to distinguish himself? ".... well somebody gave him binders to look at" ... at least he was looking Obama.

                                        P.S.

Since you threw Hillary under the bus, are you saying you would not bother to look at resumes of replacements if they were handed to you in a binder?

Steve - your ignorance knows no limits. Our President has put many women in positions of great power. He is married to a strong, intelligent, capable, beautiful woman. Clearly this type woman intimidates you.

pjam - your post magnifies your utter ignorance. President Obama DID NOT throw Hillary under the bus - just the opposite. Had you bothered to watch the Town Hall Meeting you would know that.

And yet, his attention is focused so intently on contraceptives.....

Barry makes out a women's life to be nothing more than SEX, SEX, SEX. How shallow can you be to allow that to drive everything about who you are in life? Women have fought for years to be equals, leaders, and even, President.

But to the Democratic party, they are ONLY concerned with where to get contraceptives for more SEX. They could not possibly see any further than that one single issue when voting.

No, he voted along with a majority that lowered the amount of funding to embassy security. The state department stated in sworn testimony before congress that funding was not an issue in the obama admin's denial in the request for security in Lybia. Not surprising an obamabot would misrepresent the truth, considering their idol does it all the time, like last night in his complete lie about Arizona's immigration law. It does not authorize police to, "if they think someone doesn't look like they belong in the US, to pull them over and demand papers". That's not what the law says, it appears holder isn't the only one in that crooked administration that didn't read the law.

Didn't the republicans vote to cut spending on security at our embassies?

This is just a repeat of our problems. The republicans vote against something like security and then turn around and decide their votes are President Obama's fault.

The republicans voted against jobs for veterans and then blame President Obama for the lack of jobs.

                                                  Seeking Sanity and Sto American.

It is the Secretary of State's responsibility to set the level of security for our embassies and other outposts. This is only overridden by the White House.

When an embassy is under attack full real-time video of the facilities are sent to a number agencies so they can observe what is going on to analyse, report on, and possibly act on the events they see.

Embassy protection funds come from a general security fund to which specific funds are not specifically allocated by Congress. These funds were allocated by someone in the White House or the State Department. In that Budget there were 2.2 Billion in unused security enhancement funds.

IF the administration needed to increase the security for the Embassador, the had plenty of money to do so.

There is no leg to stand on on this issue. Take the hit a move on instead of making the matter bigger still.

Fair share...great because I think that means EVERY SINGLE PERSON IN AMERICA should pay FEDERAL INCOME TAXES. That is what fair share means. Get all those that do not pay to pay any FEDERAL INCOME TAXES. I don't mean gas or utility taxes. The PRESIDENT SAID: "EVERY ONE SHOULD PAY THEIR FAIR SHARE. Come on you non-payers the president wants YOU to pony up. I don't know whose taxes he lower but it was not mine!

Binders...if the president and anyone else making fun of that had every in their entire life worked in a business office they would know what a binder was. If he had any idea what goes on in a personal office he would know what a binder is. He would also not pay his women 18% less than his cronies doing the same job with probably less accuracy and dedication.

The stupid people that said it was a Mormon thing are just that stupid. Get a real life. Read what you said and then compare yourself to that buffoon Lyin Joe Biden.

If you are working you are paying taxes. You are at least paying payroll taxes. If you make more you pay income taxes too. If you make more yet you pay no payroll taxes.

Robme pays no payroll tax. The payroll tax makes up 40% of the federal government's income

47% of Americans pay no income tax. That makes up 42% of the federal government's income.

50% of Americans have 2.5% of America's wealth and yet pay at least 20% of the taxes. 50% of Americans are overtaxes.

Oh, and the corporate income tax brings in 9% of the federal government's income.

What are the federal government's sources of revenue?

Shawn - "No one cares about that Sal, quit trying to make it a political election issue. " I think more people are concerned about Obama lying about the Benghazi attack than some left wing spin on "binders".

BTW, Romney promised during the governors race that if elected he would look at hiring more women in his cabinet. He asked people to submit names of qualified women, the information (resumes) were put in "binders". There was no mention by the left as to how many "binders" there were, but Romney kept his campaign promise and hired qualified women to fill positions in his administration.

Most of them do, they have all gone to school and had to have binders for their school work.

However, most of them did not have "binders full of women."

Except for maybe Hugh Hefner, having binders of women is pretty creepy.

Binders??? Hey you mental midgets, binders are used by very organized people to have all the papers in one easy to read area. When trying to pick the best candidates for jobs, you first read through all of the resumes (thus binders full of women). Binders make that task easier.

Dirp - If you are too dim to figure out that it was reference to women's resumes then that is your own fault.

Hiring managers often print out resumes so that they can do side-by-side comparisons, especially managers that do a lot of traveling and don't want to be stuck staring at a small laptop screen on a plane, etc... That would probably be why they were presented that way. And what difference the format matter anyway?

Romney was searching for women to HIRE, Obama found a woman to take the blame for Bhengazi and ruined her future... see the actual important difference?

I find it pretty ridiculous that people are more interested in some inept remark that Mitt Romney made during last night's debate, when the REAL cause for concern was going on right outside as Green Party candidate Jill Stein was arrested simply for trying to ATTEND the debate. (As if it wasn't bad enough that third party candidates weren't allowed to present their platform's stance on the questions that the two "major" parties were addressing). Wake up people. The "democracy" we're being fed is nothing more than an illusion. If this doesn't prove that, I don't know what does...

Of course, NONE of this can be found here at MSNBC (or any other mainstream media source for that matter)...

James: when the Green Party polls 15% or more, they will be invited to debate. Until then, they are no more a national party than is the Flat Earth society.

The effort required to get where you got is just over the top, my friend. Finding information that disputes the "common knowledge" means that you now have a thread to follow which, I'm sorry to say, requires effort and may produce "uncomfortable" findings. I also feel like I was sent to the wrong planet. Every answer brings 6 new questions for me...trouble with a capital T. Did I mention paranoia?

Dirp: Of course the GP doesn't poll nearly as well as the Dems or Reps. Simple economics and media demographics would tell you that their message isn't being allowed to reach nearly the same demographic as the two "major" parties. How can the GP be expected to compete with the billions in corporate funds/ private, interested (most likely upper 5%) that are backing the two major parties when their message runs contradictory to the capitalist agenda (not using capitalism as a "dirty" word here, by the way) of those with all the financial power? The concern that I was trying to voice here was not simply that third parties aren't being allowed to participate in these debates--it's that they are apparently not even allowed to ATTEND them. If you had seen the same footage that I have seen regarding this particular event, you would (I hope) be equally disturbed. It borders on Neo-Fascism... :/

In January 2009 the economy was in free fall. Unemployment was at 8% and rising to 10%. The Dow was at 8,000. There were record numbers of foreclosures.

It is called the Great Recession and it is indeed the fault of bush/cheney the businessman.

The GOP has engaged in record numbers of filibusters year after year after year starting in 2007.

You republicons have engaged in hostage taking and extortion.

You republicons got our credit rating downgraded last year while grandstanding about money you had already agreed to spend!

Now unemployment is at 7.8% and dropping.

The US debt is now at the same level as 2006 and dropping.

House prices re going up. My mortgage is above water again.

So let me get this straight. Sane and Niki are saying that repubs have no responsibility for the current situation. Considering what Obama inherited, he has done a good job. If the repubs want to keep on obstructing, then they tie the noose around their own necks as well. The rest of us will not be blackmailed into electing Governor Flip-Flop to be the leader of the free world.

And if mr arrogance starts his crap of well I won then he is a total lame duck AND IF HE TRIES EXECUTIVE ORDER THAT HE GETS IMPEACHED.

The Democrats got a majority in Congress in 2007 when things were already starting to fall apart in the economy.

What else happened? Bush/cheney started vetoing everything that came out of Congress. Not to mention the witchunts that were going on. Can you say Monica Goodling?

Then there were the new record number of filibusters by you republicons. That is when and where the gridlock started. Quit trying to place the blame for your own actions on the backs of others. Man up and admit that YOU caused this Great Recession.

Barry had a CLEAR MAJORITY in both Houses of Congress when he took control of the White House. He had everything he needed at the time to pass any legislation the Dems have ever wanted.... and instead of stepping-up, he waited. If I were a Dem, I'd be so Pi$$ed at this inaction that I'd FIRE HIM for that failure alone.

Yes, heaven forbid we tax those that can afford it. Let's keep ignoring the poor and raping the middle class. Do you make 1 million dollars a year? If not you are not part of Mitt's "we".

Isn't that what Obama wants to continue doing?

Isn't that why Biden pointed out that the "middle class has been buried the last 4 years"?

Where do you think that $500 million for Solyndra and $150 million for A123 battery came from? not to mention all the other wasted trillions.

So funny to read the lib posts. Your guy may have pulled out a squeaker last night, but not nearly enough to change the momentum. Unfortunately for you, but very fortunately for the country, American is waking up to what Obama means.

Mitt is absolutely right...we don't have to live like this, it can be better. And will be under a Romney presidency.

Common...It was a REAL squeaker because the polls would have been different if Candy had not jumped in to save her little boy Obama and his Momma Michelle had not started clapping. Both were against the rules and both were WRONG. How embarrassing for both uninformed women!

Mik.. Obama has been attacking Romney from day 1 about his portfolio that MAY include some investments in China. His portfolio is managed by a company and has been for 10 YEARS and he does not choose the investments. What Obama does NOT telling anyone is that his portfolio investments DO INCLUDE INVESTMENTS IN CHINA and if he is going to criticze Romney then he better own up to his China investments. BTW where is Obama get the $40,000,000.00 to buy the estate in Hawaii that Michelle was bragging about Monday? Good investments?

Obama claimed he doesn't know what is is is reitement portfolito. IF he can't mange his own own money, investements etc.. has no idea what's going on in his own financial life then how in the HELL can the AMerican people trust him to manage taxpayer money, meidcare, social security etc.. HE can't manage to tell the truth about the murders of our 4 American citizens. HE can't mange to stay in DC and deal with how HE let down our Ambassador, he can't mange to have an attention span that went further than the CRAP tables in Vegas.

Coco would love to know where the working stiff, just like the average American, struggling to survive Oblamo's are getting $40,000,000.00 to buy not a home but, AN ESTATE, in Hawaii!!!!!! YOU know he's NOT RICH like the alledgedly "evil" Romney?!?!???LOL

What else would you expect from a classless president. Don't let the facts of 50% women working for his administration get in your way. Just play to the uninformed masses and snippy remarks. They don't refer to it as 'dumbing down of America' for nothing. Par for the course for Democratic candidates.

After the first debate, Hussein sticks to Big Bird for days. After the second debate it's binders. He can't find anything more important to defend about his first term so he attacks one tiny portion of Mitt's debate. This guy has made a mockery of the White House and should be fired on Nov. 6th!

That line was the best part of the debate. The President looked so calm and Romney looked so foolish.

To be fair, it's Romney's bizarre word salads that mention Big Bird, binders full of women, trees that are the right size, etc., that Obama responds to. The man has a knack for bizarre, awkward turns of phrases. If Romney doesn't want President Obama to mention silly things, perhaps he shouldn't say them first.

ANd like your leader if you would read all the facts then maybe you would see that she recanted on what she said. And if you read the real article he mentions acts of terror but does not classify this as such even to the fact that 14 days later they said finally that it was a preplanned event.

Readers of US Weekly might have had some sticker shock when they saw a headline yesterday breaking the news that Ann Romney's debate-night dress retails for $1,690.

But it turns out Michelle Obama's debate ensemble cost twice as much.

The US Weekly piece went on to report this, but somehow the Obama outfit pricetag was not mentioned in the headline.

That headline read: "Ann Romney Wears $1,690 Oscar de la Renta Dress to Presidential Debate"

The announcement might have fit well with President Obama's references during that debate to the Romney family's enormous wealth. The president joked at one point that he doesn't look at his own pension, because it's not as big as Romney's.

But both families, it turns out, can afford very nice clothes.

While Ann Romney was sporting a "short-sleeved crimped cotton silk dress by Oscar de la Renta," that is not yet in stores, as US Weekly reported, the first lady was wearing a "hot pink" outfit of her own -- that together cost $3,290.

"Obama, 48, styled a shift dress and cropped jacket from Michael Kors' 2013 resort collection. The dress retails for $1,795 and the jacket is $1,495," the magazine reported.

Not only are Democrats better at the economy at the Federal level, Democrats are also better at the economy at the State level. This 50 years study says so.

With the U.S. economic recovery apparently stalling and perhaps headed for a double dip, the debate among economic policy makers about what to do is heating up. The right says it's time to embrace fiscal prudence, to cut spending and pay off debt. On the left, there are calls for continued spending to offset reduced private investment.

A new study by Tulane's James Alm and Janet Rogers of Nevada's Department of Budget and Planning (h/t Ryan Avent, whose deadpan tweet noted that it was likely to spark a "lively discussion") takes a close look at the effects of tax and spending policies at the state level. Entitled "Do State Fiscal Policies Affect State Economic Growth?", it examines 50 years of data (from 1947 to 1997), tracking the effects of state tax policies, spending policies, and political orientation on economic growth. Looking at the different policy approaches and strategies that have been pursued at the level of states and cities and comparing their results provides a useful lens through which to examine pressing national issues. Alm's and Rogers' main findings are certainly interesting; "lively" is quite likely an understatement for the sort of debate their findings should inspire.

There are two major take-aways. First, a "state's fiscal policies have a measurable relationship with per capita income growth, although not always in the expected direction." Tax impacts, they report, are "quite variable"; "expenditure impacts are more consistent."

Second, they find "moderately strong evidence" that a "state's political orientation, as indicated by whether the governor is Republican or Democrat, whether the state has enacted tax and expenditure limitation legislation, and whether the state frequently elects a governor of the same party as the incumbent, have consistent, measurable, and significant effects on economic growth." And then they drop their bombshell: "Having a Republican governor," they conclude, "is associated with lower rates of growth." They qualify their conclusions slightly--but only slightly--noting that past measurement errors may have introduced some distortions into the record.

Taken together, these findings seem to support the spending orientation favored by liberals and pose a rather stark challenge to Republican governors who are embracing austerity.

                                                                  Taxes, Spending, Democrats better

The LBO business is about how to strip cash out of old, long-in-the-tooth companies and how to make short-term profits.

[Then all the Fox commentators freak out and start talking over him]

David Stockman: I don’t think so. All the jobs that he talks about came from Staples. That was a very early venture stage deal that they got out of long before it got to its current size.

(For those who are unfamilar with the term, LBO means Leveraged Buy Out.)

Mitt Romney is the face of late 20th century American capitalism. He exemplifies the destruction of the middle class.

I think Mitt focused on the important items -- price of gas, price of food, price of everything going up and up and up! If Obama's policies worked, we wouldn't have such problems. He tried, he failed, and he has nothing left to offer but more spending on the same tired subjects.. Can't wait until all those solar panels and wind farms start propping up this economy --- what a joke. Spoken like a true college professor. Step aside and let a real businessman show you how to create jobs, professor.

Mitt is an innovator in this category and is 100% for hiring women (just like he's for 100% of Americans) and to prove this he is even magnanimous enough to give women "flex" time off work so they can get home early and do what god really put them on this earth for; cook, clean, laundry, take care of the kids and make babies (sons of course) after all you need somebody that can stay at work and run the business!

You mean like the oil companies' welfare?

Or the bailout Romney got from the FDIC for Bain?

That kind of welfare? (You know, the BIG money kind.)

Government documents prove the candidate's mythology is just that

The federal records, obtained under the Freedom of Information Act, reveal that Romney's initial rescue attempt at Bain & Company was actually a disaster – leaving the firm so financially strapped that it had "no value as a going concern." Even worse, the federal bailout ultimately engineered by Romney screwed the FDIC – the bank insurance system backed by taxpayers – out of at least $10 million. And in an added insult, Romney rewarded top executives at Bain with hefty bonuses at the very moment that he was demanding his handout from the feds
