Ad spending in the presidential campaign has now topped $800 million and is on pace to reach or come close to $1 billion, according to an NBC analysis of data provided by ad-buying firm SMG Delta.

Jim Young / Reuters
President Barack Obama looks over at Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney during the second presidential campaign debate on Oct. 16 in Hempstead, N.Y.
So far, $807 million has been spent on political ads for radio and television -- local and national, cable and broadcast.
The Obama campaign is one ad buy away from reaching $300 million by itself. But with outside money factored in, "Team Romney" (the campaign plus outside groups supporting him or attacking the president) is outspending "Team Obama" $455 million to $352 million.
The Romney campaign, which has come on since Labor Day, is now the second-biggest spender at $164 million.
Time Magazine's Nancy Gibbs, Bob Herbert, the distinguished fellow at Demos, and Politico's Maggie Haberman join Chuck Todd to talk about the path to 270 and the town hall debate.
Following the Romney campaign are the combined Karl-Rove backed Crossroads groups -- American Crossroads and Crossroads GPS. Combined, the two groups have spent $124 million ($65 million for American Crossroads, $59 million for GPS).
GPS's spending has dropped off in the past couple of months, ceding the presidential ground to American Crossroads, which announced an $11 million ad buy just this week.
Other big spenders: Restore Our Future (pro-Romney) $69 million, Priorities USA (pro-Obama) $48 million, Americans for Prosperity (pro-Romney) $46 million, the Republican National Committee (pro-Romney) $24 million, and late-comer Americans for Job Security (pro-Romney) $9 million.
The states seeing the biggest spending are the usual suspects: Florida, Ohio, and Virginia, where more than half of all the money's been spent -- $452 million.
In the last three weeks, Ohio is gaining on Florida for the top spot. Florida still leads at $166 million, followed by Ohio $160 million, and Virginia $126 million.
Also rising fast -- Colorado, Iowa, and Wisconsin.
Colorado has now passed North Carolina for the No. 4 spot at $72 million spent.
North Carolina, which saw a lot of spending early in the campaign, has seen a reduction of the pace of ads since Labor Day. It now sits fifth at $69 million total.
Iowa is next at $62 million, followed by Nevada $49 million, New Hampshire $34 million, and Wisconsin $32 million.
What's fascinating about Wisconsin is it was barely a blip on the ad-spending radar before the pick of Paul Ryan to be Romney's vice president.
Markets like Green Bay and Madison are now routinely in the top 10 hottest markets by number of ads being run. In fact, this week they clock in at Nos. 1 and No. 5 on that list.
Top Markets:
1. Green Bay
2. Denver
3. Cincinnati
4. Columbus
5. Madison
6. Toledo
7. Cleveland
8. Orlando-Daytona Beach
9. Las Vegas
10. Reno
Despite polling showing the race closing in Pennsylvania and Romney's birth state of Michigan, little to no money is being spent in either state. Neither the Romney nor Obama campaigns, in fact, have spent ANY money at all on ads in Michigan. The Obama campaign spent about $5 million early on in Pennsylvania.
And of the 17 "swing markets," ones won by both Obama and George W. Bush, the only two that have seen little action are Grand Rapids-Kalamazoo and Lansing, both in Michigan.

Hey, Mitt, money can't buy election, or happiness..
when the 47% are unhappy, your Kocky Bros can't help you - because you are a lost cause.
.
When Pres. Obama is on the right side of history, then extra campaign money can be a nice plus.
R-money has no chance in November, even if money is part of you or your name (Romney or R-money),
.
When you are a lost cause, even Kocky (Kock or Koch) bros are impotent.
Mitt, don't put women in a binder, or in a bind.
I also like to comment on my own post three times in a row.....
Poor, Little, Clueless, MYTH he and his rich cronies are spending all that money and he is still going lose.
President Obama has small donors while MYTH has a few plotuocrats trying to buy this country and election.
You can't buy democracy.

Obama?Biden 2012
I'll take President Obama's performance last night over money spent on ads. I'll also take Obama's GOTV ground game over all the ads Karl Rove can muster.
Romney is now the "Leader of the non-working, do nothing, filibustering GOP controlled congress with an all time low approval of 7%."
With a record 500+ filibusters, PLEDGES to NEVER generate more cash for the government, ZERO compromises, voter suppression and intimidation, creating war on women, and with NO record of any accomplishments or anything done for the country in 40 years.
The undecided voters keep ignoring or are not aware that the REAL culprits behind the slow recovery on the economy and jobs are the "obstructionist" Republicans controlling congress with cloture and filibusters to stop job legislation and halt Obama's agenda to fix the economy.
Only a "super majority" can stop the Republican obstruction of the past 4 years.
Obama doesn't have a supermajority, Obama only has the senate by ONE and the GOP owns the house and CONTROLS all legislation.
We have a communication problem if these undecided voters are not aware that the GOP has done NOTHING but get in the way of passing bills to promote job and economy growth.
Remember that the President doesn't pass the bills, he just signs them.
Obama has a 51% approval and has been waiting for job bills on his table to sign but the GOP losers just won't pass any.
Stop blaming Obama. Put blame where blame is really deserved, on the 7% GOP owned congress.
Pigotry has no clue what a "binder" is.
Money can't buy class either. Romney was rude and disrespectful of both the President and the moderator. Not presidential at all.
Obama/Biden 2012
This is NOT a partisan issue. We need campaign finance reform more than ever... Not just because the money is better spent elsewhere, but also because private campaign contributions = special interests.
Chop Shop Mitt - Sending American jobs to China, hundreds at a time. Imagine all the millions being spent on Ads, that could have gone towards educational programs and medical assistance for the poor.
I hope I wasn't the only one that caught this gem last night. Romeny -"I will create 12 million new jobs in my first 4 years" -then a little later trying to talk down to the President -Romney "Government does not create Jobs" - well which one is it Liar??? Can't have it both ways.
Wake up GOP - Mitt is selling you a false bill of goods.
Money can't change a LIE, either, and Obama LIED last night. He did NOT refer to the Benghazi attack as an "act of terrorism" the day after it happened.
He spoke about generic "acts of terror", and no amount of "spin" will change that.
The transcript of his own speech, which he challenged everyone to read last night PROVES that he LIED!
The man LIED last night. This should be the BIGGEST story to come out of last night's debate.
It's time for Obama to be called what he really is; A LIAR! (and the transcript PROVES it!)
DEMOCRATS FOR ROMNNEY!
I don't have to say my party affiliation, but if you read my past postings you can figure it out. I do not care who you are Dem/GOP, if you are not disgusted with the amount of money being spent this election cycle then, there is something wrong with all of us. We need to change how we fund our elections. We have to find away to take back the process. While I hope my guy win, this will be bitter sweet, because no matter who comes out on top, the special interest groups will get their "relief".
cjsks - this actually is sort of partisan, in that the republicans truly believe that Citizens United, the ruling that gave corporations the opening to allow unlimited campaign donations, is good. Democrats for the most part only use Super Pacs to even the playing field, but would rather see it abolished. Don't forget Romney's infamous quote: "Corporations are people my friend". We absolutely need to overturn Citizens United and set firm limits on the amount of donations each person can contribute to a candidate, otherwise, the politician is "bought" by the biggest contributors!
And the media companies are loving the windfall profits.
80% of all the super PAC money comes from 196 individuals.
Why is the majority of Americans removed from the election? Unless you live in one of the 8 or 9 swing states all of this advertising is passing you by. Maybe if we were all involved it would slow don the negative advertising and at least push up participation rates.
BTW Gallop tracking now has Romney up by 6 and on the MSNBC voter focus group of 8 Romney had 2 definites and 3 maybees; Obama was 1 definite and 2 maybees. Romney was favored 3 to 1 by the women on the group. Obama needs help from his debate performance.
BREAKING DEBATE SUMMARY
ABC: 70% Obama 24% Romney
CNBC: 65% Obama; 32% Romney
CNN: 46% Obama; 39% Romney
CBS 37% Obama; 30% Romney.
Zman - seriously you have no clue. "Acts of Terror" are performed by
A.) Milkman
B.) Postman
C.) Wealthy CEO's of Equity Firms
D.) Terrorist
If you picked (D) then you my friend guessed right Acts of Terror are carried out by Terrorist, Meaning this was a Terrorist Act. Not hard to put one and one together.
Stop trying to spin this deplorible act of violence against fellow Americans into a politcial issue - you and your fellow GOP hacks are very sick and very sad.
Self Educated Voter, yes, I caught Mitt's last minute "government can't create jobs". Mitt got lost in his own tall grass again having spent much of the debate talking about how he created jobs as Governor and he will create 12 million as president then as a side comment jab at President Obama, "government can't create jobs." Which is it Willard?
Kannin
I'm sure he knows what a 'binder' is. Just not 'binder of women.'
ZMan2012
again, "act of terror" is a short version of "act of terrorism." Same thing, shorter version. Just google "act of terror definition" and see how all the stuff about terrorism magically appears.
Alan NJ
How can this be? Gallup has today's number with Romney 51, Obama 45? But Obama won last night, didn't he??
I guess he won with the liberals, but not with us REAL AMERICANS!
.
Obama, don't bother packing your things, we'll box them up and send them to ya!
The money in US politics is the root of all evil.
Alan and Sirie now both of you would agree Polls arent necessarily representative of the outcome. This is what Dennis and few others hang their hats on. and now look, plenty of time to swing back in Obama's favor. Too hard to see the future is, always in motion it is.
"But with outside money factored in, "Team Romney" (the campaign plus outside groups supporting him or attacking the president) is outspending "Team Obama" $455 million to $352 million'.
Holy molly, with that kinda money, why even bother running for Presidency?
I could be in Acapulco right now, a cigar, my little lady, nothing but sand and not a worry in the world...
Man, some people have their priorities all wrong...
President Obama lied last night about several things.
Why was it such a good thing earlier in the year when they were predicting Obama would spend a $billion but now it is disgusting when Romney can keep up?
One dollar or five hundred billion dollars, nothing will help Mitt Romney. My guess is he is in a bit of a bind for female voters now.
Heck, if Feisty Redhead will not vote for him, why should I :))
Best Regards, Roger E. Z.
The only thing BO won last night is a one way ticket to Chicago "thug town", IL. Wow he'll have to pay for his and Mooch's vacations -- no more taxpayer pockets to pick except for us footing the bill for secret service and his pension for doing nothing other than ALMOST destroying the country and driving a wedge among Americans with his class warfare, war on women, senior citizens, and total distain for military and Americans abroad. Watched 2016 last night and was sickened thinking about the people that will actually vote for this communist militant. How come he never mentions in his book that "Frank" is Frank Davis devoutly communist and his mentor for YEARS.

I get it now-noone has jobs but get government checks!! Now I understand!! Romney wants to put people back to work and that is totally foreign to you losers. Romney will win and Bobo needs to go back to Kenya where he was born. Maybe those poor people will support him after the election and America can get back to work!

@cjsks and Jahmekan, see my post below and get involved in PAM.
Why would any sane person vote for a president who continues to govern with a socialist agenda? When, it is a fact that socialism is the beginning of communism, because the money will eventually run out, as it has throughout history of the world wherever socialism has been. Then, after communism comes the dictatorship.
Remember, the steps of socialism, which always turn into a dictatorship, are:
1) a government starts and continues to spend more than it has
2) yearly government deficits continue to grow and begin massively adding to the national debt, which itself begins to get huge
3) other countries stop lending money because they do not believe it will ever be paid back, or, if it will, they do not want an inflated return, which would be valued less than they originally lent
4) austerity measures are put in place because the government all of the sudden "realizes" it cannot continue spending more than it has
5) the printing presses crank up and cause severe inflation
6) the government comes in and mandates price controls of everything, causing massive bankruptcies of businesses
7) because of this "emergency", the government comes in and claims imminent domain of every business
8) the money then becomes worthless because of hyper-inflation
9) the government now dictates, from the highest leader of that government (the dictator) exactly what your job will be and the base wage (pennies) that you will receive
Sirie, you are entitled to support whomever you wish. You are entitled to vote however you believe is best. What you don't have the right to do is question everyone else and suggest that they are not REAL AMERICANS because they support a different candidate or don't vote the way you do. THIS is the real problem in this country. Political division, right, left, democrat, republican, conservative, liberal.
And unfortunately, it appears now it is all about the best government money can buy.
90% of the money brought in by CrossRoads GPS super pac is from 16 donors.
CrossRoads GPS is just 1 of Karl Rove's Super Pac's.
It's gotta be killing Barak that Romney is keeping up with the spending- after all, that is the ONLY way he won in 2008. He and McCain agreed to go with public funding, but the snake in the grass pulled out at the last minute when he saw how much the union was going to pay to get him elected.
One and done- worse than Carter!
I live in Colorado and the television advertising is absolutely insane here. I thank the makers of DVRs every day. I record the shows I want to watch and skip through every bit of the advertising.
What a waste of money! And most of it is spent on TV commercials defaming the character of the opponent, commercials I never pay the least attention to. Anyone who does and who believes what they say is a bonehead. The ones who benefit the most from it are the television networks Just think how many homeless people $800 to 1 billion dollars would feed. It's criminal or should be criminal to waste so much money.
I only have 1 Question for you RWNJ. If Romney is going to cut Dividends to zero from the current 15% and he paid 4 Million in Taxes at the 15% and yet he says the top 5% are still going to pay there same share, if Romney goes to Zero who is going to pay his 4 Million from the 15%........ You guessed it the MIDDLECLASS
Obama/Biden 2012 Because you cant trust Robme/Ryan with our Future
If SCOTUS refuses to reverse Citizens United then it is time to tax the campaigns for earned income because of their corporate campaign financiers!
Libbies only get upset when they get outspent. Look at 2008.
Obama outspent Mr. McCain in Indiana 7 to 1
Virginia by 4 to 1
Ohio by 2 to 1
North Carolina by 3 to 2
RW this is 2012, Libs are looking forwards not backwards.
Bigdog, this is 2012, libs are still looking backwards and blaming Bush. You wouldn't be whining if Obama is raising more than Romney. Business money goes to the probable winner whether it's 1900 or 2012. JP Morgan Chase was Obama's biggest donor in 2008.
You have got to be kidding! This nation is in the worst state ever. Not only is she lying but every democrat supporting Obama is sending our nation deeper into debt and subjecting Americans to growing terrorist acts as 4 people just paid the price for Obama's folly. Why don't you go back to Las Vegas and stay there. Wait, better go farther to Kenya and join your Islamic friends!!
Watching Robme scurrying around in the debate like an old 80 year old man was kind of sad, then my wife said that is what happens when you dont do any physical work your whole life, you just fire people and send jobs to china, I bet he did not even try and build his sons a fort or tree house, he just called in the workers and had them build it. The man has no physical work ethic
And his wife Queen Ann, what in life has she accomplished? Giving Birth to 5 more cult members, No work ethic, The maids, cleaners, cooks, butlers, Nanny's, They did all the work so Queen Ann could do ZILCH. The look she gave POTUS Obama after Obama kicked her husbands butt in the debate says it all, she is a contemptuous person, She has gotten everything she has from her Husband and has done nothing in her sorry life
One way to help the economy. Waste money. The Obama platform.

I AM BARACK OBAMA AND I SUCK!!!
PAID FOR BY TAXPAYERS!!!
DO YOU REALLY WANT A PRESIDENT THAT HAS BEEN REDUCED TO BEGGING FOR YOUR VOTE?
At least he isn't trying to steal, sequester, purge, gerrymander out the wazoo or intimidate voters from coming to the polls like your lying, cheating and stealing Republicans! He's not too proud to ask the citizens to come to the polls instead of shutting down precincts in minority areas or telling them their college identification cards aren't good enough! He's not putting up signs trying to intimidate voters with billboards in minority areas! And he's not lying his a$$ off like your standard Republican promising the same old, we'll create jobs and promise to not kiss corporate a$$ but suck up to the middle class long enough to fool them for their vote and we'll promise again to balance the budget 'this time' even though they have never ever before, lies just to get your vote so Republicans can turn around and take advantage of everything under the Sun except for the 1% which Mitt Romney is!!!!!
The obscene part of this cash race is, it doesn't appear to be having any effect in the poll numbers!
Pigotry,
Or a personality & charisma!
Don't bind me Bro!
Yeah, a conservative used to only put women front and center - you know - in a centerfold and view them in front...
..but in a binder??? that's going too far for me!!
BREAKING NEWS!!:
As it turns out we have found the second biggest waste of money right behind the bloated Department of Defense Budget. Both have questionable effects on their intended outcomes. Are we safer or more informed after the last check has been cashed?
The obscene part of this cash race is, it doesn't appear to be having any effect in the poll numbers!
Yeah it's great ain't it Feisty! Obama keeps running negative ads to try and trash Romney and Romney is still tied or ahead in the polls!!!! It's great news!
Bob: I thought the polls were always wrong or "biased"?
Strange...
Bob,
[Obama keeps running negative ads to try and trash Romney and Romney is still tied or ahead in the polls!!!! It's great news!]
In Ohio anti-Obama ads outnumber anti-Romney ads by 4 to 1 yet Obama still leads in Ohio.
The polls got it wrong with Reagan Carter, and history is set to repeat itself. When you have Obama going to New Hampshire to campaign for four electoral votes at this point in the race, you can bet they know something the mainstream media is not reporting. The polls are being skewed to make it appear close in an effort to energize the voters. Both campaigns know the Romney base is going to turn out, but with so many occasional or first time voters going for Obama the last time around, the question is will they show up again?
Ha, good one feisty.
on second thought "binders full of women" sounds kind of creepy.
www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2012/10/17/mitt-romney-s-binders-full-of-women-comment-sets-internet-ablaze.html
Rick - you just go on believing that. It will make you feel better - til 11/7/2012.
Obama/Biden 2012
Bob,
Romney and Ryan are doing a fine job of trashing themselves. Burying themselves in lies.
Rick,
Early voting in Ohio with 3 weeks to go …
20% of registered voters have already cast their vote with:
Obama @ 59%
Romney @ 39%
Other @ 2%
Yeah Rick, Romney has it in the bag. Rick, you could even stay home on election day if you wanted.
You're right! It isn't having ANY effect on Romney's lead over Obama - LOL!
You leftists live in some bubble - some self promoted and created reality. MAN I can't wait till election day when Romney wins by a LANDSLIDE!
Then what is your excuse going to be? A 9/11 nut job style conspiracy!?
Dan Austin, Tx
hehehe...poor bob, he - like Romney - doesn't remember that everything they say is on the internet FOREVAAAAAAAHHHHHH
Wouldn't it be great if we found that there is a point of no return where negative ads (by either candidate) don't work and we wouldn't have to be subjected to them?
All I can say is " What a Waste of Money " !!!!!!!!!!!!!
The top 1% and Corporations wine, gripe, piss , moan , and complain how high their tax rate is !!!!!! Yet they spend like crazy people trying to buy an election. Correct me if I am wrong. But there is something very wrong with that picture. The money they are wasting should have gone into creating jobs here at home. But then again. What do I know ?? I am just a dumb ass retired old person. There may be frost on my roof but there is still fire down below and I am not going to take it any more !!!!! It is time we brought in a third party paid for only by us ( the 99%ers ).
Hey Dennis in Columbus - News flash, votes are not counted till the polls close on election day. No way to know how those early voters voted.
Bob1/28 - just what I was thinking. What a total waste on each side and the fact that we even discuss spending like this on campaigns is even more of a disgrace.
I agree many of those companies could've taken that money and spent it on the company (new equipment, workforce, training, ect) and got way more out of it then this. I suppose if your guy wins maybe they get something back for it but really at the end of the day might as well burn the money especially if the one you back loses. So sad. Even worse when you have companies intimidating employees (call what you want it is intimidation) about hard times and affording stuff yet the money wasted on trying to buy an election but could've been spent on the employees, real crazy I know.
Yes, It is time to get a real third party in here and stop this two choice option. One that could hopefully take the good from both sides and apply it together in a way that is actually good for the country as a whole. There should always be at least a third party that takes part in these debates, no relegated to a sideshow no point secondary debate. We also need campaign finance reform, with laws that have teeth and are enforced (should stop seeing articles like this), level playing field and spending for both sides, along with kicking out lobbyists and reigning them in, and term limits to name a few. All things that would change the toxic landscape we now see in DC. Will it happen? Not holding my breath but I know if we finally come together and stop letting those clowns divide us it could and likely would.
It Is Time
Wish I could have said that. You hit the problem wright between the eyes. But the sheeple out number people with common sense by to vast a number to count. Someday maybe if we all live long enough. We will see a change for the better ( the people ).
bob
A 10% tax on campaign ad spending including super PAC's would probably feed all the country's homeless people till the next election and maybe build some transition housing for them as well.
Fire them all....remember we don't count(47%) we are just lazy, don't work, and all we want are entitlements.
Aren't you glad that the Supreme Court passed the law that they can donate what ever they want, with all the negative ads(mute mute mute). Maybe the media can somehow send all those ads to the Supreme Court Justices who voted for that law, to their homes ONLY, boy I bet they would repeal that law asap!
2012 will go down in history as to who bought the the election, who cares what the people say!
With all this spending, how is it possible there's ANYONE who's still undecided? Detroit Storm said it best in an earlier post:
Because the undecideds really don't pay attention to the BS ads??? Most people are totally turned off by the invasion of their homes at this point in an election with all of the radio/tv ads, robocalls during mealtime, etc. That is why every one of you should have become involved in the Popular Amendment Movement over two years ago and helped to pass the two constitutional amendments at www.faircampaignreform.us. We could have changed the entire way our federal elections are run (and you could have done the same thing within your state by modifying the ECFR amendment to be state oriented.)
But has anyone even considered how much of that $800M has actually gone right back into the pockets of the big donors? Who actually gets all of that money that is being spent on these ads? It's not the lowly workers at the local stations carrying the ads. It is the top executives and the shareholders.
BTW, for those who have been too lazy to check out the PAM website, here are the two amendments. Get involved now to make changes before 2014/16.
Petition for US Constitutional Amendment For Election Reform
We, the undersigned US citizens, duly registered voters in our respective states/territories, do hereby petition for our state to approve the following amendment to the United States Constitution by the method noted below.
Election Reform:
1. Abolish the Electoral College (Repeal Amendment 12)
2. ONE NATIONAL primary date to be held on the Tuesday eight (8) weeks prior to the General Election day for Congressional offices and for the President. Candidate petitions must be filed with the local/state elections boards 60 days prior to the Primary Election date. Federal election petitions shall be uniform in every state and shall include a “contract with the voters” that spells out clearly what that candidate stands for on all issues that they may have to address in elected office. They shall be held accountable in court for breach of that contract if elected and any/all terms are not met.
3. NO campaigning allowed for any elective federal office more than 60 days prior to the National Primary Date.
4. NO campaign contribution shall be donated to any candidate of more than $200 from an individual or $500 maximum from a family (spouses/children living in the same household.) Which is why the DVR (TiVo!) is the greatest invention since that series of tubes we like to call the interwebs...
Could have employed and fed a few people with that kinda cash.
Just sayin!!
The media has to eat too, you know!
With the money the stations are pulling in, the journalists must be partying at the trendiest wateringholes in New York and D.C., at least, until November 6th.
Thanks NBC for printing the top ten markets where the money for ads are spent. I was wondering, since I see so few where I live, if the top echelon was skimming the money.
Just think of the useful things that could have been done with that money.
Totally agree, but the righties would think of it as an entitlement, can't have that!
WE'RE NUMBER 1!!!
WE'RE NUMBER 1!!!
WE'RE NUM...
Hey...wait...that's not a good thing! I'm with Dangerfield here...God bless the person who invented DVR!
I'm Frank Grimes and I approved this message.
Romney is now the “Leader of the non-working, do nothing, filibustering GOP controlled congress with an all time low approval of 7%.”
With a record 500+ filibusters, PLEDGES to NEVER generate more cash for the government, ZERO compromises, voter suppression and intimidation, creating war on women, and with NO record of any accomplishments or anything done for the country in 40 years.
The undecided voters keep ignoring or are not aware that the REAL culprits behind the slow recovery on the economy and jobs are the “obstructionist” Republicans controlling congress with cloture and filibusters to stop job legislation and halt Obama’s agenda to fix the economy.
Only a "super majority" can stop the Republican obstruction of the past 3 years.
Obama doesn’t have a supermajority, Obama only has the senate by ONE and the GOP owns the house and CONTROLS all legislation.
Well of course don't BLAME Obama, nothing is his fault!!!! LMAO>>>>>
I wonder then why such a large majority of the country voted out all the democrats in the house and replaced them with Republicans. No more Obama freeloaders now. Get ready to go back to work unless of course you don't want to work. With Obama only the working class pays for the dregs of society and planned parent hood trash that can't figure out why they keep having abortions. Shame on you dirty people.
Bo 12.....Well said, just look at the facts. 2010 GOP overwhelmingly won the majority of the votes, with the promise of jobs, and how many did they create in the last 2yrs ?? ZERO, NATTA, NOTHING, and they have the nerve to criticize Obama on his job numbers.
@Kay in Texas
Planned Parenthood nor any public service caused the economic collapse.
ALL GOP Policies did that.
@Laura
When was the last time the GOP did what they ran on?
What have they done for America in the last 40 years?
That's right. Zilch.
God Bless Netflix - enjoy watching with no ads. I did watch the debate and we watch football games on Saturday (not Sunday). Mostly, we try to avoid the ads as much as possible.
Here in southwest Pa. we are seeing few ads for President. There are a few more for Senate (incumbent Bob Casey is running against a Tea Party opponent) but oddly a lot for a state senatorial election. The Republican in that race is running ads with lies in them (he's been called out by independent fact-checkers) and the Democrat is pointing out the Republican's history of out-sourcing jobs. Sound familiar?
Huh, the republicans ads are all lies -- guess you don't follow the "fact checkers" on BO's ads, but then again your party affiliation doesn't allow that kind of treason from their lapdogs -- might withhold your bone.
Dotties girl - not ONE of our candidates has signed an oath to Grover Norquist - which is a treasonous act. You just keep kidding yourself. Low information voters like you are the people Romney is counting on.
Obama/Biden 2012
The RNC has given up on PA?
That is good news, 20 electoral votes
I find it really depressing that the American electorate generally elects the candidate who can afford the most commercials.
When did we become so shallow?
I'm just glad that Obama doesn't have the three-to-one advantage he had over McCain.
"What Levitt’s study suggests is that money doesn’t necessarily cause a candidate to win — but, rather, that the kind of candidate who’s attractive to voters also ends up attracting a lot of money. So winning an election and raising money do go together, just as rain and umbrellas go together. But umbrellas don’t cause the rain. And it doesn’t seem as if money really causes electoral victories either, at least not nearly to the extent that the conventional wisdom says. For every well-funded candidate who seems to confirm that money buys elections (paging Michael Bloomberg), you can find counterexamples like Meg Whitman, Linda McMahon, Steve Forbes, and Tom Golisano."
That picture that leads off the story above sums up the debate. Look at the two faces. One smiling and confident, one pursed and ready to go.......well let's just say getting madder than hell. Which would you like to be on the wall of the White House?
Talk to the Hand - I want the man who is pursed and ready to go leading the country - not the smiling buffoon. However, President Obama should smile for his portrait sitting.
Obama/Biden 2012
lol, one picture "sums up the debate"? yeah, i'm sure there are no pictures of obama smiling and romney looking pained too.
what a stupid post.
Look at the picture again sheeple. Ready to lead the country? Looking pained? He looks like a pi$$ed off ...... say bully who is ready to punch (very presidential don't you think).
Talk ... I think the picture below sums up the debate beautifully ....

Perfect Layton! lol
Layton - GREAT photo an perfect sum up of the maniac and the President!
Obama/Biden 2012
Good one too Layton! Thanks.
Who says you can't tax the rich more....
like they'd even notice
To someone who makes much less than you do, you are "the rich." I guess you would not notice being taxed more.
It's only a 3% increase - geesh! They were called temporary tax cuts for a reason. You're right they wouldn't even notice.
Thanks Supreme court justices - that money could have been used for a lot of other useful things. Can Citizens United be overturned?
Khaleeshe - we'd have to get 2 or 3 moderate judges to do it. As long as the court leans right, it will never be done. Conservatives know they can't win without the Karl Rove PACs.
Obama/Biden 2012
It could be "overturned" with legislation. But that would have to come from Congress.
A bit of irony is that Gov Walker and Wisconsin Republicans were saying the Wisconsin economy is significantly improving during Walker recall election.
Now, Republicans in the state are trying to say the Wisconsin economy is not improving and we lied to re-elect Walker.
I rarely talk politics with anyone, however most people I've talked with are either pro-Obama or pro-Romney. Not really very many undecided or independent, so I doubt that the ads now are influencing anyone. ( diminishing returns, as they say)
I do agree that this amount of money is obscene, while the politicians and their backers are spending millions, the local high school is havinga bake sale so the band can buy instruments and uniforms, and local free clinic is barely able to keep the doors open, Where are our priorities as a nation?
Just imagine how much better off the economy would be if the billions spent on political ads were instead put to work to make the economy better.
In this land of democracy and freedom the Democrat and Republican Parties have a stranglehold on the American political system.
For the last 40 years they have done everything they could to guarantee themselves control over American government. They have written numerous election laws turning our valued election process into a process where money and influence determines the outcome of our elections.
They have made a mockery of this most precious freedom and right. In doing so they have limited the choices Americans have and limited the candidates for offices as many qualified and intelligent Americans refuse to run for political office due to the process Democrats and Republicans have established.
It is time for Americans to demand our election process be one of fairness and equality. An election process that provides America with intelligent and qualified candidates from all walks of life. An election process where the people we elect share our issues and concerns.
The United America Party platform is comprised of Federal and State mandates or steps that need to be taken to restore America to greatness and provide equality and opportunity for all Americans.
The time has come for Americans to unite and support a political party that will represent all Americans and not be influenced by money and power.
We believe that like us you want the American way of life to be more than just a memory to tell your children and grandchildren. Our children and grandchildren deserve to grow up in a country that offers prosperity and opportunity, and are not burdened with the debt and failures of our past.
Cast your vote for the candidates and Party that earns your vote.

Here is our Political Contributions Mandate, www.unitedamericaparty.org
Political Contributions Mandate – The two main political parties currently in the United States have written political contribution laws to satisfy their own agendas. We mandate the following changes.
That each citizen of the United States can contribute up to $100.00 total in any one calendar year to a political party or political candidate. $100.00 is the total limit of annual contribution by an American Citizen in any one calendar year.
All forms of corporations cannot make a political donation of any kind.
There will not be any government matching funds to any political candidate.
That any candidate for any political office cannot contribute more than $100.00 to their own or any other political campaign in any one calendar year.
Any candidate for political office can only use one Bank and one Credit Union for their political contributions. This will allow for more efficient audit procedures.
All Political Action Committees or PACs be limited to contribute or spend no more than $10,000.00 on any candidate or any political message. They will also be limited to contributing or spending a maximum total of One Hundred Thousand dollars in any one calendar year.
No PACS period. INDIVIDUAL CITIZENS is who gets to vote...so the campaign giving should be by JUST them and a very low limit at that.
See my post above. If everyone here had gotten involved in PAM over two years ago, we might have passed these amendments and done exactly what everyone screams we need to do. The campaign restrictions and bans of the ECFR amendment, as well as the foreshortened campaign season for Federal Elections would accomplish exactly what needs to be done...overturn the SCOTUS Citizens United ruling. ONLY a constitutional amendment can overturn that ruling, since anything else that Congress might pass can once again be overturned by the SCOTUS.
It becomes a dictatorship of the rich. Can a candidate without financial backing ever win an election? Or will the candidates be always be those blessed by the financial elite?
You hear a lot about Abraham Lincoln being such a great president. Abraham Lincoln wouldnt be given the time of day NOW because he was poor. Concentrated wealth causes depressions (not deficits). We are under Communist rule RIGHT now because wealth has been taken from the middle class and poor and distributed out so that the rich ALL stay rich. Abraham Lincoln would be sick at his stomach if he saw money buying elections. Maybe he would have a thing or two to say about "true" freedom.
As far as the GOP is concerned, they will always try to buy their way back into the White House. It will always be about keeping their best interests in mind. It is never about us any more. I agree that it is the obscene. The caste system is so prevalent in today's society that it is disturbing. It you are not rich than you are a welcher or a servant. We are not moving forward, we never will move forward when you have people like the Koch Bros., Karl Rove, etc.
Definition of caste system:
A caste system is a type of social structure which divides people on the basis of inherited social status. Although many societies could be described in this way, within a caste system, people are rigidly expected to marry and interact with people of the same social class.
I live in Denver. Thanks allot supreme court!
By the way, RoMONEY will be raiding your 401ks. You can be pretty sure that a glorified thief (corporate raider) wants every last penny that the middle class has left.
You're a fear-monger.
What a total waste of good money.Money could have been spent on schools, proverty programs or to help the retired folks pay for food and energy which is NOT taken into account when the CPI is calculated for ss increases..
Waste? They SPENT the money here in the USA. Where do you think it went?
Right back into the pockets of the very donors who helped pay for the ads.
Think of all the jobs that money would have provided.
Think of all the jobs that money HAS provided...
Where is your proof that that money has provided lots of jobs? Just a few ad agencies controlled by the very people who donated the money. It sure doesn't provide for any additional jobs at the media where the ads are placed. I guess you have never worked in any of the media. NO additional jobs are added at a station during campaign seasons just to place all of these ads that are submitted to them electronically now. And the "ad buy" money does NOT go to the workers, but to the profits of the corporate station owners (most often the very people who put up the donor money in the first place. It is just another way of laundering and writing off their money on their taxes.)
BTW, I spent five years working for a multi-media company, so I know at least a little bit about how that money comes in and where it goes.
With all due respect Anti-trust, the next time you see a road crew working on the streets as you wait through traffice, ask them if the money was benificial. Also if you have any friends working in the Automotive Industry who still have their job or have recently been hired if the money was worth it. how about drive around through the Comercial district in your town and look at all of the Help wanted signs? Then look at the crowds around you in the Mall? Then imagine if the President chose to invest that money in Big buisnesses as Pres Bush did??? Come on! You have been HOOD WINKED.
