Romney: You're no George Romney!

“A longtime aide to George W. Romney issued a harshly worded critique of Mitt Romney, accusing him of shifting political positions in “erratic and startling ways” and failing to live up to the distinguished record of his father, the former governor of Michigan,” the New York Times writes. “Walter De Vries, who worked for the senior Mr. Romney throughout the 1960s, wrote that Mitt Romney’s bid for the White House was ‘a far cry from the kind of campaign and conduct, as a public servant, I saw during the seven years I worked in George Romney’s campaigns and served him as governor.’”

“The head of a northeast Ohio charity says that the Romney campaign last week ‘ramrodded their way’ into the group’s Youngstown soup kitchen so that GOP vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan could get his picture taken washing dishes in the dining hall,” the Washington Post writes. The head of the charity said: “The photo-op they did wasn’t even accurate. He did nothing. He just came in here to get his picture taken at the dining hall.”

The Post: “Photographers snapped photos and TV cameras shot footage of Ryan and his family washing pots and pans that did not appear to be dirty.” Said the head of the charity: “Had they asked for permission, it wouldn’t have been granted. … But I certainly wouldn’t have let him wash clean pans, and then take a picture.”

The New York Daily News: “A company owned by the GOP mega-donor Koch brothers is encouraging its employees to vote for Mitt Romney and other chosen candidates in November — warning that they will ‘suffer the consequences,’ like higher gas prices, if they vote the wrong way.”

don't forget that Romney/Ryan are the same people who claim that Romney didn't mean what he said in his 47% video. DENIAL is the game.

"don't forget that Romney/Ryan are the same people who claim that Romney didn't mean what he said in his 47% video."

I believe the phrase they used was "not elegantly" stated or something similar. Same thing they said about the guy running for office in Indiana who said getting pregnant from a rape is "God's will." Seems like they use this excuse whenever a Republican gets caught showing his true colors...

Romney and Ryan have no scruples or character. It's more evident every day with stunts like the soup kitchen, or Mitt's heartfelt story of the Navy Seal at the Christmas party. Why don't they just run on what they are - heartless @#$%^&*s who think that those who can't afford to feed their families should starve, those that can't afford insane health insurance premiums should die, and veterans, the disabled and senior citizens are deadbeats who take no personal responsibility for being injured or old. If their vision for America is so great, go out there and shout it from the rooftops. The RWNJs will vote for them anyway, and then be pissed off when they find out that R and R don't really have any respect for them either. Unless of course they can write a huge campaign check.

Ryan spends his time washing dishes for the homeless and Romney shops at Costco buying $18 shirts to go with his $500 haircut.

This, to me, is a perfect illustration of the essential phoniness of the entire Republican philosophy- although I use that word with considerable reluctance, as its literal meaning is "love of learning", a trait that is woefully lacking in the average Republican voter.

I've tried, at considerable length, to get these people to explain to me what is so attractive about a party whose main commodities are fear, hatred, division- yes, I said division, that same thing the lying minions of the Right accuse our President of- and yet more kicks in the teeth for the Productive Class in this country. It seems that all I can ever get back are more sound bites and talking points, but nothing that resembles a well- considered answer. Ask the right- winger on your jobsite what a President Romney will do for him, and he'll most likely spew out some confused hash of completely false, FOX- driven rants against President Obama- but it's very unlikely he'll be able to tell you what "his guy" actually stands for, unless it's "lower taxes" ( those taxes which are already at their lowest level in seventy- some years).

Every so often, I meet a right- winger who fancies himself an intellectual, and often such a person will style him- or herself a Libertarian, thinking that this label gives them a cachet of edginess that the Republican brand lacks. By extensive questioning, I've come to the conclusion that the basis of libertarian thought is something like this: "All forms of government are intrusive, pernicious, and unConstitutional, except for those that are convenient to my lifestyle or necessary to the operation of my business- those forms of government are essential and must be not only preserved, but lavishly funded."

Stand by for another outburst of bathroom invective from DandyDon, the only "man" ever to be expelled from a biker bar for his foul mouth.

The only goal these clowns have is to get from not being President/Vice President to being President/Vice President and they will do and or say anything to anybody that will help them achieve that goal.

Get that George Romney guy some ad time. Too bad Ike is dead (and sadly, now Arlen Spector). We need more "real" Republicans coming forward to say that the GOP no longer represents America's interests.

It is clear that George Romney thought that his son was a pathological liar, and that he has an issue with mental illness. George Romney would be vey upset that his son demanded that Detroit go bankrupt. George Romney would disown his very 'Mentally Disturbed' son, and would never forgive him. George Romney would be very upset that his very 'strange' son will not release his past taxes, and he turned out to be a huge "Tax Cheat." George Romney built things from the ground up, and would be horrified to see his son not able too earn his own paycheck. George Romney would be appauled by the total greed by Bain Capital, and little Mitt would be sent out to the Wood Shed. George Romney would never be a Tea Begger, and he would consider the "Bonehead Birther's" as traitors. George Romney would be very angry to hear his son call 47% of his fellow Americans 'Mooches.' The "Speculator and Chief" would not make his father proud at all. That is fact!

Perhaps one of the saddest articles and collection of comments I've ever read. The lack of investigation and quotes from the folks on the other side of the story makes the bias and slant clear.

      @Sixmom,

You mean Quotes from a man who not only worked for his fathers campaign and then for him when he was Governor, but was also his fathers friend? Or are you talking about the people who were at the kitchen?

I have a challange for you. Fact Check every thing that both candidates and VP have said in this campaign. It's easy. Don't be afraid.

George Romney provided 12 years returns that showed he paid an average of over 36% over the 12 years with no unusual or exotic deductions. The acorn fell a long way from that tree.

          #9.2 - Tue Oct 16, 2012 5:22 PM EDT

The quotes are from George Romneys campaign aid of many years and the other quote was from the head of the charity organization about Ryans photo op. Who better to quote? Even a die hard right winger has to agree no one is better qualified to make the comparison between Willard and George than a long time republican campaign manager who knew them both.

Facts like Obama/Biden and their admin. lied to the American people about Libya...Facts like Hillary taking the fall for it so she can get her campaign debts paid off by Democratic party...Facts like Mr Obama has done nothing to improve our standing as a world power, but he is destroying it just like he is destroying our economy.

Pray for our country and also that the electors do their jobs and get Obama out of the White House!

People, since the part written about what the head of the Charity said was wrong so why would you even believe what he says the long time fathers friend said? Antel of the charity said that Ryan did indeed wash dirty dishes and that he was allowed into the soup kitchen by one of the volunteers that was working there. They didn't push their way in. It's best if you read the orginal stories before listening to fools like this who just take things they read and then rewrite them to fit what they believe. Same with the story from the ex friend and campaign manager of Romney's father. What he said was that Romney's father didn't hold the same views as those of what his son seems to be behind these days but his father would be proud of him. But of course you liberals will fall on any badly written, lying article you can find to make you feel better for supporting someone who has destroyed our country and now it seems let americans die in Libya and then let Clinton take the blame for him. What kind of president is that, lets his Secetary of State take the blame for what he is in charge of! Way to go Obama.. This guy wants to be president again so bad he will let his whole admin taKE THE BLAME BEFORE HE WILL ADMIT HE LEFT AMERICANS OUT TO DRY!

It is really awful that MSNBC reports something wrong and never corrcts itself. Ryan did wash dirty dishes... Why in the world would you ever lie about that..except to be misleading like on everything...

It doesn't really matter if they were dirty or clean. Ryan swung by the soup kitchen for a photo op, washed a few dishes and then took off. He didn't finish the dishes. He didn't leave a donation or a prepaid grocery card. He just took the photo op and ran. I'm willing to bet that is the very last time the man will ever step foot in a soup kitchen. All those homeless veterans might have germs. They probably aren't registered to vote, either. So aside from the photo op, there isn't much there to prompt a return visit.

It does matter... Why does Obama go on Letterman, the View..radio stations and for that matter soup kitchens on Thanksgiving...for a photo ops...Do you think the news people are there 24hrs a day....

George Romney was a man who understood hard work. He understood how it felt to be poor. He understood what it meant to pull himself up by his own bootstraps. He fought for civil rights. He helped create decent housing for black workers coming in from the South. He said what he meant and he meant what he said. He paid an average of 36% on his income and didn't complain about it. He believed that his country was the best in the world and dedicated his life to making it better. He ran for President and disclosed twelve years of tax returns because, "One year means nothing. It could be a fluke. Twelve years will show you a man's character." I guess that means Mitt doesn't want his character known. I can't say that I blame him.

George Romney was the best of America. Mitt Romney is a piss poor imitation of greatness. If he was half the man his father was, I'd vote for him. But there's no danger of that happening.

Did Pres. Obama release 12 years of taxes? I don't think so.. Did he release his college transcripts? I don't thinks so. Did Pres. Obama give more than 1% of his salary to charity ? I don't think so. Did Pres. Obama give up his salary as President? I don't think so?

I worked for a company in 2007 that told us if we voted for President Obama, we would all lose our jobs and become unionized. They constantly reminded us to vote against Obama...during meetings, on the Company tv channels during lunch. Well, President Obame became president and the company is thriving and still no union. I left the company shortly after that, but my friends who stayed have told me that it's started all over again this year.
