BOSTON -- Mitt Romney's campaign and its allies announced their best fundraising month ever in September, raising $170 million dollars and reporting more than $191 million in cash on hand as the campaign enters its final stretch.

The figure accounts for the combined fundraising efforts of the Romney campaign, the Republican National Committee and the consortium of state Republican parties that make up the Romney Victory fund. The total falls more than $10 million short of the Obama team's total fundraising haul of $181 million dollars in the same time period.
Despite being outraised by the Obama team, the $170 million total will likely be viewed with relief in Republican circles, as September was widely seen as Romney's weakest month. The candidate's highly damaging comments about 47 percent of Americans who view themselves as "victims" who depend on government broke in September, and dominated headlines and media coverage. The Romney team was also forced to parry stories about campaign infighting and backbiting, and polling that showed President Barack Obama opening larger leads over Romney across a slew of swing states.
Romney advisers had complained for weeks of an Obama campaign advertising advantage in several swing states, most notably Ohio. Much of the $191 million remaining in the Romney team's coffers is certain to be earmarked for television ads in the Buckeye State, as well as the expensive media markets in Virginia, Florida and other critical swing states.
Success may also beget further success for the Romney team. The candidate's strong debate performance spurred a burst of donations in early October, according to top bundlers, and the timing of this release of information -- as top donors from around the country gather in New York City for a retreat -- is likely to boost enthusiasm even more.
"With less than one month left, we will continue the hard work of raising the resources to ensure that Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan can win in November and bring real change to the American people," Romney finance chairman Spencer Zwick said in a statement accompanying the release.
Underscoring that point, the campaign's schedule of major finance events continues, with Vice Presidential nominee Paul Ryan taking over headlining duties. Ryan attends a finance event at a midtown hotel in New York tonight, and will raise money in donor-rich Texas later this week.

We need about 150,000 jobs every month to keep up with new people entering the workforce which is 7 million jobs in 4 years.
According to Mr. Romney there are currently 23 million people out of work, quit looking for work or are underemployed. Given that information by the end of 2016 that will grow to 30 million minus the 12 million jobs he said he will create leaving 18,000,000 people who are still out of work, quit looking for work or are underemployed.

For over a year the average jobs added each month is over 150,000.
Just out of curiosity: I wonder how soon we could solve that national debt issue, the homeless issue, world hunger, jobs, etc....if we could only take all those campaign contributions and apply them to a cause worth the amount of money being collected.
Does anyone else find it sickening to hear a dollar value this substantial being thrown around for any election? I personally think it's things like this that doom us to whatever extinction awaits us and we deserve it.

There is some notion out there in pundit land that President Obama needs to “behave” like Biden or Romney during the debate. This simply isn’t the case.
President Obama is the President of the United States, the leader of a democracy. We all know what Romney is about – lying and bullying. All you have to do is see the voter suppression that’s going on in this election. Look at what Citizens United is doing – they are pouring millions and millions of dollars into this election. The Republican Party wants to do away with Social Security and Medicare. They want to privatize all of our children’s educations. They want to repeal health care. They want to start a war with Iran.
Romney’s Administration will be a redo (only worse) of what the GWB Administration gave us. The list is endless.
What President Obama needs to do, in my opinion, is talk directly to the American people and ask that they understand what they’re voting for if they vote for Romney.
He should define Romney – tell the American people that he doesn’t care about people. Bain, the experience he is banking on, was never about caring about people and their livelihoods.
President Obama is not some cable news pundit. He is not some AM radio fear mongering fool. He is a calm, mature thoughtful man.
Just what our president ought to be.
All he has to do is be honest as to what Romney and the Republican Party is about. And point out every single lie Romney utters Tues. night. The same Romney who saw absolutely nothing wrong with putting out as his first ad, a lie in which he completely changed the context of President Obama’s words.
The president has to make it clear he is with us (which he is) and that Romney is not.His actions and words say as much.
He has to talk to the American people about the work we as a nation have done together.
Just make it clear – we are heading in the right direction. What we can’t do is turn back.
This is the leader who wouldn’t bow down to Netanyahu, which is all Romney ever does.
The president should not go down to Romney’s level in manner. He just needs to explain all we have accomplished together.
And that we can’t ever go back. Ever.

Dennis ... so if 23 million = roughly 8% unemployment, then 18 = about 6% unemployment. That's pretty low.
Realistically, I doubt it'll go much lower - ever. People can talk about 4% unemployment, but at that rate, businesses are sifting through the least qualified candidates and paying a premium for them. Unfortunately, I think businesses will come up with a plan "B" before taking on under-qualified and over-priced employees. Kind of a diminishing return.
Dan - I would love to see the campaigns limited to three months, $20 million and no PAC advertising at all. It makes me sick to see the dollars being spent on this campaign by both sides.

Ceaser, if you look at ADP numbers versus the numbers reported by the Governors, you would understand.
The Governors have been reporting private sector job numbers lower than ADP has seen in their states for over a year now.
You can draw your own conclusion as to why Republican Governors in particular were reporting lower numbers than the private company ADP was seeing.
It's such a shame that so many Republican politicians are criticizing the private sector.

A longtime aide to George W. Romney issued a harshly worded critique of Mitt Romney, accusing him of shifting political positions in “erratic and startling ways” and failing to live up to the distinguished record of his father, the former governor of Michigan.
Walter De Vries, who worked for the senior Mr. Romney throughout the 1960s, wrote that Mitt Romney’s bid for the White House was “a far cry from the kind of campaign and conduct, as a public servant, I saw during the seven years I worked in George Romney’s campaigns and served him as governor.”
“While it seems that Mitt would say and do anything to close a deal – or an election,” he wrote, “George Romney’s strength as a politician and public officeholder was his ability and determination to develop and hold consistent policy positions over his life.”
Mr. De Vries’s stinging assessment was contained in a nearly 700-word essay that he distributed to a small group of journalists with whom he has spoken over the past year. He said it was an outline for a book that may or may not be published. The Romney campaign did not immediately respond to a request for a comment.
A registered independent, who said he voted for Barack Obama in 2008, Mr. De Vries has previously expressed reservations about Mr. Romney’s political postures in interviews, but never with such sweep.
In a telephone interview, he said he was motivated to write the essay by “an accumulation” of Mr. Romney’s actions, like his comment about 47 percent of Americans and his decision to campaign with Donald Trump.
Mr. De Vries said he was annoyed by Mr. Romney’s repeated references recently to his father as inspiration and influence on him.
“I just don’t see it,” he said. “Where is it? Is it on issues, no? On the way he campaigns? No.”

@ dal, its common for high income tax returns to be audited. Check the IRS stats. They focus on high income tax returns. It would be highly unusual for the IRS NOT to audit his tax return at least once every few years.

it's not common at all. overall individual audit rate is about 1.11% and for those who make $200k it increases to 3.93%.
so your statement should have been: it increases for higher income filers instead of saying it's common. But it's still less than 4% of high income filers who get audited.

Expenses to “FIX” the GOP failed policies like TARP and the stimulus are still GOP spending and NOT Obama's fault so DO NOT count those policies.
All expenses from the previous GOP administration's “UNFUNDED” policies that Obama ADDED to his budget are ALSO Republican spending.
The INTEREST on the GOP TRILLIONS of debt is NOT for Obama to be responsible for either, it is GOP spending too.
The GOP “OWNS” that interest.

The “Bailouts” ARE “loans” to REPAIR more GOP screwed up policies, the GOP wanted those to be FREE of charge, a "going away gift" to the Banks and Wall Street from Bush. Obama made them loans.
Do not add policies before Reagan because there was NO DEBT PROBLEM before that, Reagan took office when the DEBT had ONE TRILLION and could have been tackled and fixed with comprehensive tax reform but Reagan did the opposite..
“Entitlements” are a tiny fraction of the debt and they always bring their own revenues through payroll deductions as premium payments. Entitlements are NOT free, it's paid-into insurance.

Workers at Sensata have set up an encampment called "Bainport" across the street from the facility to protest plans by Bain Capital to close the plant and move operations to China, taking 170 jobs with it. Mother and Friend are Sickened by Romney’s use of Slain SEAL for Political Gain
The mother of slain Navy SEAL Glen Doherty is not happy to hear Mitt Romney using her dead son for political gain. She told 7News of Boston, “I don’t trust Romney. He shouldn’t make my son’s death part of his political agenda. It’s wrong to use these brave young men, who wanted freedom for all, to degrade Obama.”
You might have thought Romney’s callous, bizarre presser about the attacks was bad enough, but Mitt Romney wasn’t done politicizing the deaths of four Americans in the September 11 attacks on the American consulate in Benghazi. Needing to humanize himself after his 47% comments, the Romney team found a new way to endear Romney on the stump. He could tell a story about Navy SEAL Glen Doherty, whom he had once met at a Christmas Party.
You have probably saw a clip of Romney saying this in Van Meter, Iowa because he showed emotion and the press was entranced. Speaking with fond emotion of Doherty and their meeting, Romney said, “You can imagine how I felt when I found out that he was one of the two former Navy SEALS killed in Benghazi on September 11th.”
Except that is not how one of Glen Doherty’s close friends of twenty years remembers Doherty’s chance meeting with Romney in an interview with MyNorthwest. According to Doherty’s friend Elf Ellefsen, Romney introduced himself to Doehrty four times during the same party, not remembering that he had already met Glen. Doherty called it “pathetic and comical”. Each time, Romney introduced himself “robotically” as “Mitt Romney, political figure.” Glen believed it to be very “insincere and stale.”
Elf said it made him sick to hear Romney using his friend Glen on the stump. “Whether it be Republican, Democrat, Green Party, Libertarian, it doesn’t make a difference. Because this guy is using our great friend, our humble, and honorable great friend…who is truly larger than life…He has become part of the soapbox routine for politics in a presidential race.”
Reporter Libby Denkmann asked Ellefsen “what he thought of his friend’s story being used on the political stump”, to which Ellefsen replied, “Honestly it does make me sick. Glen would definitely not approve of it… I think Glen would feel, more than anything, almost embarrassed for Romney. I think he would feel pity for him.”
Glen Doherty’s mother and close friend do not appreciate Romney using their loved one to score cheap points on the trail. Glen’s mother is specifically appalled to see Romney using her son to hurt President Obama, when Glen fought for freedom for all. Glen’s friend Elf says it makes him sick, and that his friend found Romney pathetic and comical.
It doesn’t get much more cynical than using someone’s death for your own political gain, especially when that person would not have approved of your campaign or your tactics, and even worse, when you didn’t even remember meeting him the first three times you introduced yourself to him. Romney used the story again on the trail today.
Update 2:30PM: The Romney campaign aide Kevin Madden told Buzzfeed that they will stop using the Glen Doherty story on the campaign trail, though Romney was allegedly “inspired” by meeting the man he forgot three times in a row.

Last month the Obama administration started its third round of printing fiat money (currency that a government has declared to be legal tender, despite the fact that it has no intrinsic value and is not backed by reserves). $600 billion is the current estimate. That's almost $2,000 apiece for every man, woman, and child in the country!
In the past, when governments have printed fiat money to cover their own expenses, there has been a short-term economic bump, which is what we are seeing now, but then inflation is always the ultimate result. To us, personally, that means that, if Obama is reelected, the buying power of our savings and income will be severely reduced within about 18 months. Think about what you will need to do in order to survive inflation it will happen.
Romney, by contrast, is a proponent of fiscal conservatism. That is, he recognizes the ill effects of deficit spending.

MSNBC is now running an article that the 'Town Hall' setting favors Romney because he's had recent experience in that type of setting. Looks like they are starting to admit to themselves that Obama will lose this debate as well.
