The Chinese government is actually beginning to do some things, small steps at this point, to address these issues and when those steps are implemented, the cost of doing business there will go up.

You know, I watched the debate later then some, so I got to hear all the whining and such. Much like the Presidential debate, the moderator, "threw," the debate, somehow. Well, these are supposed to be big boys, and had better be able to deal with communication problems with a third party.

Strikingly though, everyone seems to have a problem with Joe Biden's choice of laughing at what Ryan was selling. I though I better have a look, and see if this was some new tactic to throw Ryan off. You know what I found? Most of the points where Biden was lauging or smiling, so was I, including a few times he kept a straight face.

How ironic? Romney praised Chinese manufacturing in his 47% speech. He actually promoted it to all those rich people that day.

Little progress can be made here, because China is so dependent on its goods being cheap in order to employ all those hundreds of millions of people there that still live in poverty all over the rural areas of China despite their one child per family policy.

As to the charge that we are dependent on China for the Treasury debt they own, they are much more dependent on us to buy their products. For example, if they ever called in their debt, the American public could just stop buying Chinese products and they would immediately back off. When I turn my ear in the direction of China, I hear the sound of lips smacking; that's the sound of the Chinese licking their chops at the thought of a Romney/Ryan administration.

My bottom line in regard to China: they need to go to war with someone in the next ten years if they have any plans on surviving as a culture, a country, and a race. The reason why China is in this position is because of its own internal cultural dynamics, which have produced a dramatic over-abundance of young men with no economic prospects and even fewer prospects of finding a female to produce children. The nutshell: China is in the middle of a mass migration of young men from the countryside to the city, and Chinese females want no part of them because the societal caste system (Hukuo) makes these young men a serious economic liability once you start talking marriage. The only way these young men will see any economic, financial, and female opportunities is through war and conquest. China can either put them to use that way, or they can watch a major 30-year social problem unfold before their eyes, culminating with a workforce decimated by what would be old men who have produced no children to take their place.

China is one cage you do not want to blindly jab with a stick. There are two fatal mistakes you can make with China. The first is ending up in a war with China where you did not plan it and are not prepared for it; in other words, do something stupid and end up in a war with China. The second is to go right straight at the Chinese; the numbers alone say this is a stupid mistake. In addition, it plays to China's strengths: they're relentless and they don't go away.

My analysis of Romney/Ryan: they will make both of the fatal mistakes I outlined. This is what can be expected from people who know nothing about the mental aspects of fighting. They reflect a classic American mindset: Americans who love balls to the wall bangers and love to fight from long range. The perfect combination if you're looking to get your ass handed to you by someone understands how to fight.

I love America as much if not more than the next person. I do not like to see jobs go anywhere but the US. I remember as a kid, my dad used to bitch because everything you saw on the store shelves (and especially electronic things) were made in Japan. The only difference now is only a short boat ride away. It is much larger a problem now. I don't like the fact that Sesate is moving the 170 employees out of work. But at the same time, I can't see them staying open if they can't make money doing it. Business is not a charity, they don't give jobs simply because you need one nor pay you your perception or your worth. They pay you what the job is worth and how your productivity contributes in the big picture of getting a product out the door profitably. It stinks but unfortunately whomever their competition is is evidentally cleaning their clock and they don't just want to shut the doors completely and totally give up. They obviously figure they have a product with a need in the marketplace and want to provide it.

This story line continued for the entire week until US State Dept said that they had received info that an Al-Qaeda affiliated person had phoned Benghazi person before attack. Rice was speaking from current best intelligence when she went on Sunday talk shows.

Security funding cutbacks of $300 million in 2012-2013 State Dept requested security budget by House Republicans forced State Dept to cut back on security worldwide. I am sure as more info comes out that US Embassies and Consulates around the world fought to avoid cutbacks in their Embassy and Consulate.

Certainly, cutbacks in security budget puts State Dept personnel stationed overseas at greater risk everywhere. Terrorists can strike almost anywhere as we now know.

Romney/Ryan and supporters are trying to exploit the situation in Benghazi that left four Americans dead for their own political advantage.

The FBI is sorting through the conflicting accounts from Benghazi and have yet to reach any conclusion as to what exactly happened there. Yet, people such as yourself seek to exploit the situation by jumping to unproven conclusions.

It enjoyed record profits last year. But not enough for its owner — Bain Capital — which is moving the jobs and the machinery to China.

When Sensata brought Chinese workers into the plant to be trained by those whose jobs they would take, the workers at Sensata protested. “When we started to demonstrate, they got those workers out of here,” Mrs. Turner told me.

The Sensata workers called on Mitt Romney — an investor in Sensata through his Bain holdings — to intervene. A group went to Iowa during the primaries to ask him to come to Freeport; they met with no success. Another group went to the Republican convention to ask him to come to Freeport; they had no success, either.

So, with the open support of Freeport’s mayor and City Council, the workers set up a “Bainport” encampment in the Stephenson County Fairgrounds right across the street from the plant.

“Welcome to Bainport, a taste of the Romney economy,” reads one sign. “Romney does have a jobs plan; too bad it’s for China,” reads another. And Mrs. Turner and others began to make their voices heard.

“We are suffering from the Bain model of capitalism,” Mrs. Turner said. “This is the way Bain works. They take over good companies, and then ship their jobs to China to make even more money.

“So when I hear Romney talking about creating jobs, he’s saying one thing and we are experiencing another. He’s creating jobs, but the jobs are in China, not here. And now under Bain, Sensata plans to give the managers and the supervisors their golden parachutes, but not the workers. I’ve been here 43 years, and they offer a lump sum payment for 26 weeks of salary. And the lump sum means taxes will take a big part of it.”

Probably a bigger part than Romney pays in taxes on his income.

“We’re getting the shaft all the way,” Mrs. Turner continued. “And we’re not going to take it quietly. We can fight for our jobs. We may not win, but we are in their face. You may roll over me, but I’m not going to shut my mouth while you do it.”

Mrs. Turner needs to be heard. The workers at Sensata are skilled workers. Their products are in demand. Their company is profitable and globally competitive. But what Texas Gov. Rick Perry correctly called “vulture capitalists” at Bain do is sweep in and ship the jobs overseas. Bain makes more money, but the families of the Sensata workers are at risk, the Freeport economy takes a hit and America loses more high-tech capacity to China.

In the debate with President Barack Obama, Mitt Romney had the gall to say he had never heard of a tax break for moving jobs abroad. But, in fact, Bain is infamous for taking advantage of every tax dodge and haven known to accountants. They can write off the expense of moving those jobs abroad, and Romney knows it. Romney has his own money stashed in Swiss bank accounts and Cayman Islands shell companies. He even benefitted from tax breaks, avoiding capital gains on his holdings of Sensata stock.

Worse, Romney supports a “territorial tax system” for multinationals that would make the rest of the world a U.S. tax-free zone. That would give multinationals a huge incentive to ship more jobs abroad or to report profits abroad to “harvest” another tax break. Romney is pushing national policy that will reward Bain’s model.

Paul Ryan spoke for 40 of the 90 minutes during Thursday night’s vice presidential debate and managed to tell at least 24 myths during that time:

1) “It took the president two weeks to acknowledge that [the Libya attack] was a terrorist attack.” Obama used the word “terrorism” to describe the killing of Americans the very next day at the Rose Garden. “No acts of terror will ever shake the resolve of this great nation, alter that character, or eclipse the light of the values that we stand for,” Obama said in a Rose Garden statement on September 12.

2) “The administration was blocking us every step of the way. Only because we had strong bipartisan support for these tough [Iran] sanctions were we able to overrule their objections and put them in spite of the administration.” Even the Israeli President has effusively praised President Obama’s leadership on getting American and international sanctions on Iran, which have significantly slowed Iran’s progress.

3) “Medicare and Social Security are going bankrupt. These are indisputable facts.” [T]he possibility of Medicare going bankrupt is — and historically has been — greatly exaggerated. In fact, if no changes are made, Medicare would still be able to meet 88 percent of its obligations in 2085. Social Security is fully funded for another two decades and could pay 75 percent of its benefits thereafter. There is also an easy way to ensure the program’s long-term solvency without large changes or cuts to benefits.

4) “The vice president was in charge of overseeing this. $90 billion in green pork to campaign contributors and special interest groups.” Multiple reviews, including an independent review of all Department Of Energy loan programs by Herb Allison –- finance chair for McCain for President 2008 –- have found no “pork” in the stimulus’ funding of green projects, concluding that the loans were not steered to friends or family, as Ryan claims.

5) “Was it a good idea to spend taxpayer dollars on electric cars in Finland, or on windmills in China?” As PolitiFact has pointed out, the money for electric cars in Finland did not come from the stimulus. Rather, it originated with the Energy Department’s Advanced Technology Vehicles Manufacturing program, which predated the Obama administration. The claim about “windmills in China” is also inaccurate.

6) “When they see us putting – when they see us putting daylight between ourselves and our allies in Israel, that gives them encouragement.” The Israeli Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister, Ehud Barak, told CNN, “President Obama is doing … more than anything that I can remember in the past [in regard to our security].”

7) “You see, if you reform these programs for my generation, people 54 and below, you can guarantee they don’t change for people in or near retirement.” Here is how the Romney/Ryan Medicare plan will affect current seniors: 1) by repealing Obamacare, the 16 million seniors receiving preventive benefits without deductibles or co-pays and are saving $3.9 billion on prescription drugs will see a cost increase, 2) “premium support” will increase premiums for existing beneficiaries as private insurers lure healthier seniors out of the traditional Medicare program, 3) Romney/Ryan would also lower Medicaid spending significantly beginning next year, shifting federal spending to states and beneficiaries, and increasing costs for the 9 million Medicare recipients who are dependent on Medicaid.

The panel’s plan will modify payments to providers but it cannot “include any recommendation to ration health care, raise revenues or Medicare beneficiary premiums…increase Medicare beneficiary cost-sharing (including deductibles, coinsurance, and co- payments), or otherwise restrict benefits or modify eligibility criteria” (Section 3403 of the ACA). Relying on health care experts rather than politicians to control health care costs has previously attracted bipartisan support and even Ryan himself proposed two IPAB-like structures in a 2009 health plan.

10) “7.4 million seniors are projected to lose their current Medicare Advantage coverage they have. That’s a $3,200 benefit cut.” Enrollment is actually projected to increase by 11 percent in Medicare Advantage (MA) in 2013. Since the Affordable Care Act was enacted in 2010, Medicare Advantage premiums have decreased an average of 10 percent and enrollment in these plans has increased 28 percent.

11) “This [Medicare premium support] plan that’s bipartisan. It’s a plan I put together with a prominent Democrat senator from Oregon.” Wyden not only voted against Ryan’s budget, he also called the idea that he supported it “nonsense.”

14) “The average tax rate on businesses in the industrialized world is 25 percent, and the president wants the top effective tax rate on successful small businesses to go above 40 percent.” The U.S. is raising historically low amounts of revenue from the corporate income tax, and it already has the second lowest effective corporate tax rate in the world. U.S. corporations are taxed less than their foreign rivals, and the U.S. effective corporate tax rate is low compared to other developed economies.

15) “He’ll keep saying this $5 trillion plan, I suppose. It’s been discredited by six other studies.” The studies Ryan cites actually further prove that Romney/Ryan would, in fact, have to raise taxes on the middle class if he were to keep his promise not to lose revenue with his tax rate reduction.

16) “You can – you can cut tax rates by 20 percent and still preserve these important preferences for middle-class taxpayer. It is mathematically possible. It’s been done before. It’s precisely what we’re proposing.” If Romney/Ryan hope to provide tax relief to the middle class, then their $5 trillion tax cut would add to the deficit. There are not enough deductions in the tax code that primarily benefit rich people to make his math work. As the Tax Policy Center concluded, Romney’s plan can’t both exempt middle class families from tax cuts and remain revenue neutral. “He’s promised all these things and he can’t do them all. In order for him to cover the cost of his tax cut without adding to the deficit, he’d have to find a way to raise taxes on middle income people or people making less than $200,000 a year,” the Center found.

17) “So they proposed a $478 billion cut to defense to begin with. Now we have another $500 billion cut to defense that’s lurking on the horizon. They insisted upon that cut being involved in the debt negotiations, and so we have a $1 trillion cut.” Ryan has frequently gotten in hot water for criticizing President Obama for the very same defense cuts that he voted for in 2011.

18) “If these cuts go through, our Navy will be the smallest – the smallest it has been since before World War I.” PolitiFact rated this claim as “Pants on Fire,” noting that “a wide range of experts told us it’s wrong to assume that a decline in the number of ships or aircraft automatically means a weaker military.”

19) “Look at what they’re doing through Obamacare with respect to assaulting the religious liberties of this country. They’re infringing upon our first freedom, the freedom of religion, by infringing on Catholic charities, Catholic churches, Catholic hospitals.” Religious institutions haven’t been forced to “violate their conscience” by paying for contraception. Houses of worship and other religious nonprofits that primarily employ and serve people of the same faith will be exempt from offering birth control.

20) “If you like your health care plan, you can keep it. Try telling that to the 20 million people who are projected to lose their health insurance if Obamacare goes through or the 7-point million – 7.4 million seniors who are going to lose it.” The Affordable Care Act would actually expand health care coverage to 30 million Americans and all seniors will keep their guranteed Medicare benefits, despite Ryan’s fear mongering. The Congressional Budget Office estimates that very few people will have to enroll in new coverage.

21) “We should not have called Bashar Assad a reformer when he was turning his Russian-provided guns on his own people.”In March 2011, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton noted that “many of the members of Congress of both parties who have gone to Syria in recent months have said they believe he’s a reformer.” However, she did not endorse their view.

22) “When Barack Obama was elected, they had enough fissile material — nuclear material to make one bomb. Now they have enough for five.” This is misleading and unproven. Iran now has enough fissile material, but has not yet enriched to the necessary level for a weapon. The Institute for Science and International Security says “it would take Iran more than two months to produce that amount if it started with 20%-grade uranium, and ‘several months’ to make enough for a bomb using low-enriched uranium. That would give the world community enough time to detect the operation and organize a response, ISIS noted in June.”

23) “[Iran is] racing toward a nuclear weapon.” Israeli and American intelligence officials aren’t so sure.

24) “We don’t want to do is give our allies reason to trust us less [by announcing a withdrawal timeline for Afghanistan].” It’s unclear how our allies would trust us less since they too agreed to the timeline. The penalties are somewhat lower than those announced by the department earlier this year, when the government determined that Chinese companies were benefiting from unfair government subsidies and were selling their products in the United States below the cost of production, a practice known as dumping.

Mitt Romney: China is cheating. Believe me, I know. I've got factories over there. Nobody is more familiar with the process of outsourcing manufacturing jobs to China than me.

What can we do to slow outsourcing and rebuild the domestic manufacturing sector? Hmm, that's tough. First, repeal the minimum wage. If we can pay American workers less than a dollar a day, then they'll be a lot more competitive. Also, eliminate all workplace safety and environmental regulations. Dangerous, filthy factories are much cheaper and more profitable than safe, clean ones. And no more guaranteed benefits. Why should we have to pay for health insurance? That's what emergency rooms are for. And disability? No, people on disability are just lazy forty-seven percenters who refuse to take responsibility for their own lives. And finally, cut taxes for the companies and executives. No, that won't lead to more hiring or job creation. It's just a nice thing to do.

Still, I'm trying to figure out how anyone can vote for a man who refuses to show his taxes to prove he is not a felon. That along is a compelling reason, in addition to, all the other scurrilous things "MYTH" has done to not put MYTH in the White House.

I already take it for granted that Mr. Romney lied to the IRS and thus the reason for hiding his foreign facts which cannot be revealed until he brings his foreign profits into the states. That goes without question. Mr. Romney is just one of thousands doing this through loop holes.

What I'm more interested in is just what corporations overseas he is profiting from as a silent partner as we found out via Dick Cheney and his huge, multi billion dollar contracts he gave to the company he was fomer CEO and a shareholder to, Hallburton, that this is not going to be a repeat performance by Mitt Romney as well. It is time to hold these foreign investors that reap profits off destabilizing the United States to bear for their exploitations of the american people.

It is our huge trade deficit that is killing attempts to turn the economy around by injecting more money. Neither the Bush nor the Obama administrations have been able to solve this problem. More money in the economy increases demand for goods and services which should in turn encourage job creation to meet the increase in demand. But since such a high percentage of those goods and services are coming from foreign countries, that is where the money ends up going and that is where the job creation occurs. We are left with the debt. There is a world wide economic war going on only we do not seem to realize it.

In any event do not pretend the tax cuts do not favor the rich because they most certainly do, they pay half the percentage you do. Not necessarily Forrest. The price of raw materials have gone up... and who produces them? Union workers... and so their wages have gone up too. Sorry, but those facts escaped your math. My parent's paid $1900.00 for their 1973 Dodge Dart, but they added a few things to it... the base model that year was $1500. Maybe that's old to you, but to me it's history. The same year the parent's of the girlfriend I was dating bought a Chevy Nova (GM) for $1700.00. I was between 17 and 18 at the time. Gasoline was 49 cents a gallon. I remember back when I was a kid, my dad complaining about gas costing 29 cents a gallon. He'd crap if he saw the prices we pay today.

Union wages are a convenient scape goat for many, but the math proves other wise, it's a red herring, workers have lost ground they have lost buying power and the people at the top have gained what workers have lost. As far as taxes, I have a very good tax accountant but I make fairly decent money, about 105k in cash on average, plus employer paid retirement contributions and health insurance. I'll make more as management next year, but my home is paid for, my children are raised, there just aren't too many deductions available to me, so I do in fact pay about 28% in income tax, which is at least twice the percentage you and Romney pays and he makes in a single day what it takes me six months to earn. The average CEO makes two hundred times the auto worker who makes 35 bucks an hour, they should at the very least pay the same percentage of tax as he does. In any event make no mistake about it union wages have nothing to do with the high price of a new car, the wage component of that car is lower than it used to be. You used to see auto workers buy a new car that they made every couple of years, they sure can't afford to do that like they used to, and chances are if your dad could see the pitiful wages some people make now days that would make him crap as well.

Forrest, Some people use as a scapegoat the labor union wages... Some people use corporations. Wouldn't you agree it's an age old battle between labor and management? This isn't new ground... maybe the numbers are different because of the times we are living in... CEO's have always made astronomical wages... but that's been the case for years and years.

Right now I am struggling over a choice in jobs. I can stick with a management position for a subcontractor firm making X amount of dollars, or I can travel to another city and triple that amount... but I have to leave my home again... The job away involves me strapping on tools and setting floor tile. I know I can triple my salary... but it's a struggle to decide on the money or being home.

How does my dilemma have anything to do with the conversation? It boils down to locality. Union states are faced with companies wanting to shut down because of higher wage workers... moving to areas where they can save money... increase the value of their stock, etc... so the question remains.. are they evil for wanting to do this? Am I evil for considering leaving my home again for increased wages? Where do you draw the line between greed and evil and aren't unions just as guilty of it?

Brianb I have been a union employee all my life, until a few months ago when I took a management position. I made a living wage, and health and retirement benefits, I helped negotiate contracts on behalf of the union and no employer ever agreed to anything he could not afford to, the members made decent livings and the employers made themselves millionaires due to the benefit of their labor, I don't begrudge them that because they are decent American businessmen who hire Americans, offer the lowest bid to get the contract, make themselves a profit, and pay their employees a fair slice of the profits their labor produces. When I took this new gig I was very upfront about not accepting any less than I was making as a union man by way of wages or paid benefits, they actually exceeded my expectations with their opening offer, again I am sure they are not paying me more than they can afford to. They did not hire me to put them out of business. One more thing about "merit pay" union members typically make "scale", my union allowed members to make more than scale if the employer chose to pay them above scale, but that was a matter of dollars per hour, there was no such thing as a periodic bonus, now as management if the people under my supervision work real hard and make extra money for the company I get a bonus on top of my salary, not the people that did the work, I get the bonus based on their merit, not them, it really don't seem fair. The point is that many who would complain about what I made as a union member would now say I deserve to make even more now for doing less just because I am now management. Go Figure.

I am traveling a lot with this new gig Brianb, it's not easy being away from home so much, but they pick up all my expenses and while they don't expect me to check in at the Ritz Carlton, they don't expect to do the motel 6 either, so at least I am comfortable and eat well. How are your knees old timer? One of the reasons I took this gig is that my body is not up for what it used to be and this business of union guys getting paid to do little or nothing is BS. I can't physically work the way I used too, I would also look at the wear and tear of setting the tile as opposed to supervising, and will they pick up your road expenses. On the other hand more pay is hard to pass up, we all want to provide our family with the best that we can. I am fortunate in as much as my deal is that I get to come home every other weekend no matter what, and in between projects my home is my office so that helps balance out all the traveling I must do. Maybe you could negotiate a similar deal, you will travel and set tile but only for a couple weeks at a time and then have a week off. Unions wanting to negotiate a living wage and some benefits in exchange for a lifetime of work for their members is neither evil or greedy, making 200 X plus what your workers make and wanting to cut their wages and benefits so you can make even more is both evil and greedy.

Why do we continue to talk about corporate taxes and business regulations as if they are relevant to American corporations shipping our jobs overseas? The government could pay the corporations more than the corporations pay in taxes today. The government could remove all regulations and allow open sewage to run down the middle of Main St. Those jobs would still not be coming back.

Until the American worker can find a way to live on much, much less, those jobs won't be coming back. Until the American worker agrees to work 7 days a week, 12 hour days in hazardous conditions for $2.00 a day , those jobs won't be coming back. Romney, Ryan and the Republican leadership think we are all fools by feeding us this bullsh*t.

Removing corporate taxes and regulations will benefit only a few while destroying our economy, society and infrastructure. The few to benefit will be the corporate service industries that can not outsource our jobs. The American people will pick up the tab as they always have. That is the Romney/Ryan plan.

We can bring all of those jobs back without unfairly assuming the tax burden of wealthy corporations in one fell swoop. All products of American corporations produced outside of the U.S. shall be charged a tariff equal to what it costs to build them here(including taxes and regulations) plus 10%.

Old stick in the butt and weepy blue eyes would have to start paying their way for a change. Wouldn't that be nice?
