A week after President Barack Obama’s lackluster debate performance, Republican challenger Mitt Romney has made some gains in three key swing states among those most likely to vote, according to the latest round of NBC News/Wall Street Journal/Marist polls.
Romney and Obama remain in a virtual tie in Virginia and Florida, and the Democratic incumbent maintains a slight advantage in Ohio.
Romney saw his largest gain in Virginia, where he now edges the president 48 percent to 47 percent, a 3-point reversal from last week’s poll, released the day of the first presidential debate. The spread is within the poll’s margin of error.
In Florida, before the debate, it was a 1-point race with Obama leading 47 percent to 46 percent. Now, it is still a 1-point race with Obama leading 48 percent to 47 percent.

In the final push in the 2012 presidential election, candidates Mitt Romney and Barack Obama make their last appeals to voters.
In Ohio, where there has been a renewed focus by the Romney campaign after the former Massachusetts governor’s strong debate performance, Obama leads 51 percent to 45 percent. That’s a 2-point uptick for Romney.
But the Ohio poll also included an 11-point advantage for self-described Democrats --- 40 percent to 29 percent for Republicans. Last week’s poll had a narrower 5-point advantage for Democrats. . (In 2008, the party identification split was 39 percent Democrat and 31 percent Republican, according to exit polls.)
One factor that may have pulled the party ID more heavily toward Democrats in this poll was early voting. One-in-five respondents (18 percent) said they have already voted, and, of those, almost two-thirds (63 percent) said they voted for Obama.
The ideological makeup in this poll was 22 percent liberal, 32 percent moderate, 46 percent conservative, which is actually less moderate and more conservative than four years ago when it was 20 percent liberal, 45 percent moderate, and just 35 percent conservative, according to the exit poll.
When early voters are taken out of the equation, Obama’s lead shrinks to 48 percent vs. Romney's 46 percent.
"Perhaps the poll is picking up the Obama absentee push,” said Barbara Carvalho, director of the Marist poll.
“By way of methodology, last week there was no question about absentee voting in the Ohio survey. It had not yet started. … Those who said they voted absentee in the past week, since absentee voting started in Ohio, are overwhelmingly Democratic and they voted for the president by a wide margin. This can account for a difference in party identification among likely voters because last week they would have been ‘likely voters’ and this week because absentee voting had started, they are ‘definite voters.’”
There are signs that Romney’s debate performance had an impact with the narrow slice of persuadable voters.
In all three states, the overwhelming majority of voters said they made up their minds before the debate -- 92 percent in Florida and Ohio, and 91 percent in Virginia. Just 7 percent in Virginia, 6 percent in Florida, and 5 percent in Ohio said they decided after the debate. But in all three states, Romney won them.
“The debate helped Romney but most voters had already picked sides,” Carvalho added.
From tramping through cornfields to munching ice cream cones to holding babies – the time-honored traditions of the campaign trail leave President Barack Obama and GOP challenger Mitt Romney looking surprisingly alike.
Romney also made significant gains with independents in Virginia and Ohio. In Virginia, Romney jumped 7 points with the group -- from a 45 percent to 44 percent statistical tie to a 50 percent to 42 percent lead.
In Ohio, he got an even wider 12-point boost. He was down 47 percent to 43 percent with them. But now, Romney is up 49 percent to 41 percent. In Florida, there was little change.
Romney also improved his image post-debate in all three states, but he’s still viewed more negatively than positively in Ohio.
Romney’s favorable score has jumped to 49 percent in Florida and Virginia, up from 46 percent in Florida and 45 percent in Virginia. In fact, before the debate in Virginia, Romney was viewed more negatively than positively. Now, that’s reversed.
Neither score is as good as the president’s, who continues to enjoy favorable ratings above 50 percent in all three states.
Obama’s approval rating also held steady -- 48 percent in both Florida and Virginia and 47 percent in Ohio.
Obama continues to be bolstered by women. There’s a 13-point gender gap in Florida, and 12-point gaps in Ohio and Virginia.
In the key Senate races, Democrats lead, but the race in Virginia has narrowed back to a tie.
Many observers believe as goes the presidential race in Virginia, so goes the competitive Senate race. And that very well may be the case, as Democrat Tim Kaine and Republican George Allen are once again deadlocked.
Kaine holds the narrowest of advantages, 47 percent to 46 percent. Last week, Kaine led by 5 points, 49 percent to 44 percent.
In Florida, incumbent Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson continues to hold a sizable lead over Republican Rep. Connie Mack, 52 percent to 39 percent, about where it was last week.
In Ohio, incumbent Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown continues to hold a significant advantage, 52 percent to 41 percent, over Republican challenger Josh Mandel. Last week, Brown led 50 percent to 41 percent.
The polls were conducted from Oct. 7-9 and have a margin of error with likely voters of +/- 3.1 percent.

On April 6, 2011 the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN), was convicted in Las Vegas of felony “compensation” for registration of voters. Nevada forbids compensating voter registration canvassers because it creates a financial incentive for fraudulent or sloppy registrations.
The conviction came after the 2008 election cycle during which Las Vegas ACORN officials emptied the local jails to fill voter registration canvasser slots and even put individuals convicted of identity theft in charge of the registration drive.
As Judicial Watch reports, “The group has been busted for forging voter registration applications in key battleground states and submitting falsified forms in more than half a dozen others. In 2007, ACORN settled the largest case of voter fraud in the history of Washington State after seven workers were caught submitting about 2,000 fake registration forms.” Moreover, there are scores of ACORN employees who have been convicted of election fraud.

It would be important to note that those 2 wars the GOP started have led to a larger deficit and a destabilized Middle East/North Africa. There’s General Electric, whose CEO Jeffrey Immelt has served as chair of the advisory board since January 2011. Since Immelt took over GE in 2001, the company has lost 37,000 American jobs, and added 25,000 jobs overseas, according to filings with
“Boeing followed the textbook of outsourcing and dismantling the integrated design and manufacturing community" that had been a staple of the company,” Sorscher told The Huffington Post about the 787 project. “The biggest failure I could imagine would be that we could be six months late. It just never occurred to me we could blow it as much as we did.”
Boeing now views China as a trading partner, rather a competitor, said Sorscher. He said Boeing is counting on China to buy 5,000 planes by 2030. China, he said, "would gladly pay top-sucker price for whatever wreck is left after we’ve mismanaged this program and the next program and the one after that.”
In the last few months, Boeing has ramped up business in China. In September 2011, the company signed a 10-year contract with the state-owned Shanghai Aircraft Manufacturing Co. to build horizontal stabilizers for the 737 jet. The contract is the company’s largest with a Chinese supplier. And in March, Boeing announced partnership with the Commercial Aircraft Corp. of China on energy research.
Several other corporations represented on the jobs council also rely on outsourcing.
Xerox, for example, has a business model that depends on providing its outsourcing services to other companies worldwide. In its most recent annual report, Xerox said it is the “largest worldwide diversified business process outsourcing company in the large and growing BPO market.”
American Express, one of the pioneers of outsourcing call centers to India in the 1980s, still depends on “outsourcing functions … [and] relocating certain functions to lower-cost overseas locations,” according to its most recent SEC filings.
Even jobs council representative Permac Industries, a 36-employee precision part manufacturer located in suburban Minneapolis, is finding its place in the global supply chain. The company offers “outsourcing management, a process where Permac teams up with other global suppliers -- inside the U.S. as well as offshore -- to get the job done,” the company’s website says. “While other manufacturers may deny the changing reality of U.S. manufacturing, Permac looks it squarely in the eye.”
The United Electrical Workers's Townsend said the outsourcing companies on the jobs council reflect longstanding failure to protect American jobs. Obama, he said "has not been serious about addressing the catastrophic destruction of good, primarily manufacturing jobs. ... Where on earth is their coherent response to this?”
Paul, of the Alliance of American Manufacturing, said Obama has shown a willingness to praise companies when they create U.S. jobs.
"At the same time," Paul said, "there’s been no moment where he’s been before a group of CEOs where he’s ripped them for what they’ve done for the economy.”
Obama’s 2009 economic stimulus Money went for OutSourcing
However, Obama’s 2009 economic stimulus spending law--the $787 billion American Recovery and Reivnestment Act--gave millions of federal dollars to foreign companies or funded domestic companies that built factories in foreign countries or bought foreign products.
For example, there is the North Carolina LED manufacturer Cree Inc. Cree was awarded $39 million through a stimulus-funded tax credit program in January 2010. However, half of the company’s employees are in China and the company opened a manufacturing plant in Huizhou City, China in November 2009, according to an article in the industry publication LEDs Magazine.

In addition to Apple and GE, the Obamas’ fund listed 10,655,961 shares of International Business Machines, valued at $1.9 billion. As the Wall Street Journal reported in 2009, “The technology giant has been steadily building its work force in India and other locations while reducing the number of workers based in the U.S. Foreign workers accounted for 71% of Big Blue’s nearly 400,000 employees at the start of the year, up from about 65% in 2006.”

Since you apparently believe you are better informed than I am, perhaps you wouldn't mind answering a few questions: What presidential candidate in 2008 blasted insurance companies during the campaign for ripping off the middle class, then passed a law that says we must buy insurance from those same companies or be fined? What presidential candidate in 2008 told us the Patriot Act was a dangerous affront to our liberties and then extended that same act as soon as he could?
I find it absolutely hilarious that the left is screaming about Romney not giving us any details for his plan after you voted Obama into office in 2008. Did you see any details on how he was going to improve relations in the middle east, cut the deficiet, extend health care to all without raising the cost or cutting care, etc. By the way, he failed at all of the above.

Romney didn't appear to win the debate by any means other than outright lies and flim-flam. But, I do not feel that willard actually believes his bs. He just doesn't care to ever tell the truth and gets a real kick out of how honest people and people with class are, at times, disarmed and taken aback by such insincerity and deviance. Republicans are famous for their twisting, which is exactly what you see from Romney on an hourly basis, without ever telling the truth. Do keep in mind that Romney/Ryan want to give you a health voucher to gamble with in their stock market that does not keep up with inflation or market crashes and to eliminate the Medicare entirely. If you have the strong desire to follow blindly the Republican philosophy of "TRUST ME" (which is far too often used by Romney continually) with the idea of benefits for the elite only, and for the middle class to support the elite's share of unpaid taxes, then Romney, the man with no details of his so called wonderful plans (implying that we are too ignorant to be provided that privileged knowledge, or else being too deceptive with really letting us know of his plans knowing it would be too hard for us to swallow and costing him some votes. Ask yourself why hasn't Romney showed more than just 2 tax returns when all other Presidents including Obama have shown 10 or more tax returns? Even Romney required Ryan to show 10 tax reports. For the years prior to Romney's first tax report showed to us, ask him if he paid 2.9% after using all his tax loophole exemptions. Then on the most recent tax report provided to us, ask him why he didn't take the usual and obvious deductions provided? Is it because he wanted he tax percentages to look much higher than his previous 2.9 % in the past?? So much for his transparency, honesty, and integrity. It would be no different if he were Pres. This man has no concept or understanding of what real life is like. Romney wants to spend far more money on the Defense Dept. budget (i.e. with planes that the A.F. doesn't even want) and to be ready to head off to more wars, (esp. when he lacks the skills to speak intellectually without insulting the foreign leaders just as he did on the first, two of three stops overseas this past summer). Don't forget that Romney /Ryan have a strong desire to eliminate S.S. as well, which I'm sure all who have paid into it for 45/50 plus years will not receive a refund for what you have already contributed). Think about this seriously before you vote.
If you are informed with accurate facts, and do some reliable internet research for the true facts, then vote a straight Democratic ticket in Nov. 2012. Don't let the intimidating, suppressing Republicans take the voting right away from you (which the Federal Courts have been busy declaring the VOTER'S SUPPRESSION IS UNCONSTITUTIONAL). I agree with you that the GOP's treatment of Ron Paul and supporters has been bad, even disrespectful, but voting for Obama would be casting a vote against everything Ron Paul stands for. Mitt may not be that much better in your opinion but at least with Mitt there is hope he will listen to Ron Paul and supporters, you know Obama won't give you the time of day. I would say if you really want to cast a protest vote do it for congress, not the Presidency, there is just to much at stake. These poll numbers all have a margin of error, generally -3.5% to +3.5%. A shift of 1% or 2% does not necessarily anything has changed as it is within the margin of error. The larger the size of the sampling (most are 1000+ people), the smaller the margin of error.
So, polls will vary somewhat just based on margin of error.
The change in independent voters since they are a smaller subset of larger sampling will have an even larger margin of error. Furthermore, voters who change their mind based on first debate will be more likely than voters who had mind made up before first debate to change their minds after the second debate and the third and the fourth.

Romney has said that he was always personally pro life but while Governor supported the laws already in place which were pro choice. He has said that he has changed his mind on supporting existing pro choice laws and would look to overturn Roe vs Wade, which would mean"states will be empowered through the democratic process to determine their own abortion laws and not have them dictated by judicial mandate". Meaning abortion would still be legal in some states while illegal in others. I would say he has changed his mind on abortion and has changed his postition since Governor, but I count one while (clwyd) said five. I'm also sympathetic to him changing his mind on abortion because I have changed my stance on abortion after the birth of my first child. The things I learned during that first pregnancy changed my beliefs and so I don't think people who change their views are always doing it for political reasons.
Although I am not voting for either of the two major candidates, the one thing I have noticed, of the two parties, the democrats seem to be the most disingenuous. That is not to say that I don't see distortions and "flip-flopping" by the Republicans as well.
The issue that disturbs me over and above concerning the Democrats is that it appears that there has been a directive to those states that have a Democrat as secretary of state to delay sending out military ballots. Massachusetts Secretary of State Bob Galvin in one such culprit, but he is not alone reports are coming in from all over the country that this is becoming a major issue.
I could see it as an honest mistake if this was just one or two states, but this is happening in almost ALL the states with a Democrat Secretary of State. They are ones responsible getting the ballots out to the towns in a "timely" manner so they can be distributed to the soldiers overseas.
The fact is the the military is pro-Republican by an estimated 70% to 30%. This will be a tight race and a few thousands votes in some states could make the difference.
As a P.S. I mentioned the term "flip-flopping" earlier in this post, as I saw it used several times by the pro-Obama crowd about Romney. As a non-partisan observer I find it interesting that when Obama or any Democrat changes their position, as was the case with Obama maintaining the Patriot Act, when one of his campaign cries was to dismantle the PA, it is called "evolving" but if a Republican changes their position it is called "flip-flopping", and the liberal media is right there to forward this hypocritical double speak.

Truetexan, I agree with your statement in part, but let me explain why I personally will be voting Libertarian. First of all the cumulative popular vote does NOT elect the president, the electoral college i.e. the electorates of each state votes based on the popular vote for that state, and they in turn are what determines the presidential outcome.
I live in the socialist state of Massachusetts that inevitably votes Democrat. The last Republican to win Massachusetts was Ronald Reagan. It is possible that Romney might pull it off here, but frankly I don't have a lot of faith in the political intelligence of the voters in this state.
My reasoning is based on the fact that Massachusetts will probably go for Obama regardless and honestly I am getting tired of voting for the "lesser of two evils" and want to vote my conscience rather than compromising my beliefs to vote so some "not as bad as the other guy".

1. You claimed Romney is a "tax cheat". This is TOTALLY false, although you may not like his investments in offshore banks, it IS legal and NOT a cheat. I suggest you look into John Kerry (or should I say his wife's) investments, and also Nancy Polosi as well they BOTH use the same Legal tax "loopholes". In fact the major reason for Romney's low tax rate has to do with the 4 million plus a year that he DONATES to charity. That too is a tacx write off. While you're at it check to see how much Kerry or Polosi donate to charity. You will be surprised but it doesn't come close to what Romeny donates.
2. Draft Dogger - This one I really have no idea where this came from. It not only is NOT true but just plain rediculous.

That seems reasonable given that he likes to tout his business background as his only legitimate accomplishment. If you consider figuring out how to collect government bailout money to make a profit on companies that you liquidated, and then stashing that money in tax havens like the Cayman Islands, then yes he is. However, as a business owner myself, I've never considered anyone a genius that thought it was a good idea to decrease revenues while simultaneously increasing costs. Remember Frank, unlike at Bain, Romney couldn't fire the US citizens he wants to stop paying, but he could still manage to reroute taxpayer $ to make a nice little profit for him and billionaire friends.

Lol a financial genius...he pays workers less so he can make more and drive other companies out of business that actually pay their workers a decent wage. How can a company compete with another if they both make the same product, but one uses workers that get paid $9 an hour versus $9 a day. What effect does that have on the cost of goods and what they can be sold for? The company the uses the $9 a day labor can sell their product cheaper and that forces the other company to reduce worker pay to stay in business or they are forced to close. Any moron can do this, it does not take any special skills other then being a greedy a$$. I can do the same by reducing CEO owner pay too, it is called math you should learn it one day. Do I have to explain how a bankruptcy works and who gets stuck with the bill? Why do you forget that Mitt needed a bailout from the FDIC (government and taxpayers) just to keep Bain alive? When people like Mitt, David Siegel, Koch brothers, Norquist, etc. cannot make 1000 to 1 ratios they throw cry baby fits, hold secret meetings, hold a nation's economy hostage, and send out letters to their employees threatening them to vote for Mitt. That if Obama gets elected and raises taxes on them (letting the Bush era tax cuts expire) they are going to lay off hundreds of thousands of workers. The only thing this is going to do is piss people off.
If we let people make 1000 to 1 ratios then only 0.1% of the population can make that amount. How is that providing an opportunity to the masses like capitalism is supposed to? And if the ratio was 10 to 1 then 10% of the population can make that amount. That is why our economy sucks. The only people with any disposable income are the rich atm. It is simpler than you think - the $9 an hour worker just has to be more productive than the worker making $9 an hour. If he is not more productive, then why should he get paid more? The campaign promise was his plan would insure everyone, there would not be an increase in cost and there would not be a decrease in cost. The reality was only a small percentage benefits (the group that consistently votes Democrat), cost is going up by an estimated 1.7 trillion and over 500 billion was taken out of medicare to pay for this. The term "WMDs" refers to nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons.
Nuclear weapons Saddam never had, chemical weapons were used against the Iranians and the Kurds, and biological is the genie in the bottle, once uncorked there is no control over who it kills. There is no indication that Saddam ever sought developement of a biological weapons program.
The chemical weapons used against the Iranians and the Kurds were dismantled as required shortly after the first Gulf War in which Kuwait was liberated. There was some use of gas against Kurdish villages after the war, but that was discontinued as a result.
So, yes, Saddam had a history of using chemical weapons.
I am opposed to using nebulous terms such as "WMDs" because it leaves the public with a generally fuzzy feeling of what is being discussed, and leads to the use of spin in political policy.
By using specific terms the politicians find they must explain exactly what they mean, and people are more able to distinguish the BS in the specifics.

If only the evening news would do a listing of Romney's dual positions on these issues, then they might live up to the liberal media bias they are so often accused of. But, it wouldn't be a liberal bias. In actuality, it would just be demonstrating a bias towards an honest discussion of romney's biggest problem.

Romney has no interest in helping the working man and working woman. He truly believes that America's economic strength is built by the rich, even though our economy has struggled to recover from the housing bust that clearly most affected workers.
This housing bust is the main reason our economy has not recovered faster. Overbuilding of 2 million homes per year was way more than working men and women could afford, but way less than rich investors were able to finance. Now, we are at 600,000 homes built per year and while home sales are increasing , we still have a long way to go here.
To illustrate how little Romney cares for working men and working women, he proposes eliminating deductions, the biggest one being the home mortgage interest deduction.
Now, a rich guy, without a home interest deduction, will simply use his investment money to buy his house outright. Thus, he eliminates his interest cost. But, he still gets his 20% cut in tax rate under Romney's plan.
Now, a working family, who is paying on a mortgage, will just lose the tax deduction for the interest they pay. For most, they will not save any money or will pay more taxes under Romney's plan.
For a working family who plans on buying a home, they will lose the main incentive for buying a home, and may decide to rent instead. And rich guys everywhere will invest in rental housing.
Mitt Romney, helping the rich get richer and keeping the workers working for less.

Now, I know your views on the nature of our financial crisis from your previous comments about the Great Depression and what you believe brought us out of it. Here's the thing. It took us 15 years to finally claw our way out of that debacle. Yet, everyone is pointing out Obama's failure in that regard because 3-1/2 years later we're not all wealthy and singing 'Happy Days Are Here Again', throwing $100 bills around like Daddy Warbucks. Now, we all know that some of those failures can be attributed to Republican obstructionist tactics, record fillibustering et al, but certainly not all of his failures.
Here's the other thing: Some of his policies are starting to bear fruit. He knows there's still much work to do and he has proposed how he will try to accomplish that work. You cannot deny that the man is trying and does care about the middle class and less fortunate. But it's a hell of hole we're in and it's hard to climb out. Yes, I do believe some of that misery has been inherited by the previous administration, especially defense expenditures as well as the tax cuts. But, I am not so naive as to think it's all GW's fault. That rhetoric is for the condescending, we're-better-than-you liberals and I have no patience for it.
The problem with the GOP today is that it's no longer the Grand Ole Party. It's been hijacked by extremists. Ultra-conservatives and evangelicals, etc. Oh, they're all for smaller government which is a GOP tradition and one I happen to agree with. They don't want the government telling them how to live, but they're awfully quick to impose their will on others. Abortion. But we don't need to go there. GOP has always had a smidgen of favoring big business over the masses, and in a certain light, one can almost see the wisdom behind those beliefs. The problem is that the pendulum has swung WAY too far to the right. It now seems that GOP is synonymous with Big Business and they want to restructure our economy in their favor and gobble up the lion's share. I am most definitely not down with that.
Man, if they would just run a real Republican for a change, instead of a corporate puppet with no plan, just talking points....
THEN the GOP would have a shot at taking control again. Unfortunately, Mitt is not the one. He's paper-thin and it's so apparent it's not funny. I happen to agree, he smoked Obama in the debate. That much is not debatable. But didn't you just cringe a little bit when he suddenly abandoned his previous fiscal platform and did such a stark changeup? I mean, to most observers it was an obvious tactic to: 1. Throw Obama off his game, and 2. Pander to the more moderate Republicans, which he was losing fast.
All this is to say that, firstly, I am not overly thrilled with Obama's performance (although he really has accomplished some very good things). But, mostly, Romney appears to be a liar and a thief who will do or say anything to gain the presidency. Ah well, I know I will never change your opinion, as you cannot change mine.

plans to move this country forward without using the typical Republican talking
points...please give me specifics. I don't want to hear about a "5 point plan" because that's the "big picture". For instance:
1. Are you going to cut taxes on the rich, shifting the burden to the middle class
and below?
2. Are you going to force the military into to buying weapons they aren't even
requesting? Unnecessary defense spending, especially when the military doesn't ask for it, is bankrupting this country. Fighting two wars, one we didn't ask for, is bankrupting this country. Did Republicans think about that before we went to war in Iraq? Not only did we lose money waging that war...we lost human lives on a lie! What are Republicans doing to fix that one glaring problem?
3. Are you going to remove all financial regulations instituted after the great
"Collapse?" What are you going to do when the financial industry goes back to its predatory practices and causes another collapse?
4. Are you going to cut Medicare and Medicaid? How about going after Medicare and Medicaid fraud? The money you recover on fraud or waste will pay for Health-care reform. Those that commit the biggest fraud are those in the medical industry. Why not police the industry - health care should not be about profit - paying for a service yes - but not for profit? Throughout history we have seen that profit drives corruption and fraud.
5. After seeing the multiple benefits of Health-care Reform...should you actually
repeal the law...what do you propose in its place? How do you plan to cut down inflationary health-care cost? Insurance costs? How do you plan to protect the American people from greedy pharmaceutical companies?
6. If you don't like the health care insurance mandate, why aren't you pushing to end all insurance mandates, i.e. auto insurance, home insurance etc? It's the same thing. Better yet, if you're never in an accident, why not establish a law that gives a percentage of our money back because we didn't file a claim? In the end, insurance is just giving money away.
7. Are you going to end Social Security as we know it? Why? Why not go after those committing Social Security Fraud? Why not put Social Security in a lock
box...you can't use those funds other than for the welfare of our aging society?
8. The biggest enemy of small business is big business. What is the Republican Plan to help with small businesses? Reducing taxes? How about getting our products overseas? How about applying tariffs on imports or in lieu of tariffs, how about enforcing trade agreements and reducing the trade imbalance? How about regulating businesses like Wal-Mart, Kmart, etc., in such a way that they have to buy America before they buy China, Taiwan, Japan or Korea?
I have many more questions and concerns...and Republicans provide very little in answers or substance....other than a so called 5 Point Plan!

ey dumbass - look at it state by state. Obama is still in good shape. What I think would be funny is if Romney wins the popular vote but looses the electoral vote. The ditto-heads will go insane.
I think when you get right down to it, the only undecided have been Republicans who prefer to themselves as independents. The basic thing was whether or not they could bring themselves to stomach voting for Romney. I would wager that most were undecided about voting for Romney or not voting at all.
I am not surprised that some may have seen Moderate Romney in the debate and are thinking that they just might be able to support him. However, I don't see this as a firm commitment yet and now that they are possibly paying attention, the constant flip flopping of Romney could very well backfire on Romney with these particular voters.
Likewise I think the debate may actually have encouraged Democratic voters who may have been somewhat disappointed in what Obama has been able to accomplish. I think this is illustrated somewhat by the high early vote turn out in favor of Democrats. I believe there is also a fear that some voters would be turned away on election day, so getting their votes in early will help prevent that.
I am not too surprised to see a shift in the polls, but how conclusive they are remains to be seen. I find it hard to believe that anyone was really swayed away from Obama to Romney. And I doubt that there really are too many uncommitted voters. If you haven't figured it out yet, you are one fickle person. That suggests that you could potentially change your minds 4 or 5 times more before the election. These kinds of people tend to be "fair weather" voters too. Whether or not they actually do vote remains to be seen.

You do realize that 2010 was a very low voter turn out election don't you? With mainly House seats up for grabs, in a super Red district, there wasn't a lot of reason for Democrats to turn out.
The fact is that because so many districts have been manipulated to put a lock on some seats, in many areas it is sometimes seen as a pointless exercise to vote. Mid terms are never reflective of the country as a whole.
However, after the craziness demonstrated by the Tea Party freshman, don't be surprised if 2012 looks completely different for these incumbents. I'm interested to see how the next debate plays out. It looked to me like Romney let Obama go down a path, let Obama form his own analysis, based on very little data provided by Romney. I think he did that on purpose. Because now he can say "I'm not telling you what I'm going to cram down the throats of congress, like you did. I'm telling you what my goal will be, and I'll work WITH congress to achieve that goal. But we won't do anything to negatively impact the middle class if it doesn't work out."
I'm fascinated by this tactic, his baiting of Obama and luring him down that specific numbers path, and then telling Obama that he's playing a completely different kind of game -- a game that is about goals and ideals based on everyone's input, not "my way or the highway."
In the end, I think Romney will win this, simply because actions speak louder than rhetoric. And Obama was a domestic diplomacy fail.
And, even though I got my ballot in the mail today, I'm still holding off on voting because I want to see what 'gotcha' moments are still left to come! This race has been crazy!!

Before saying that Romney/Ryan are a new hope, I'd like you to sit down for a moment and think about their actual policies (monetary and other along with previous foreign events). Based of the policies that really have no substantial support from top-economists (that can validate the benefits) and blunders throughout Europe (including Israel/GB), do you really think that Romney will be much better then Obama just cause he can say "my economic plan is better then yours even though you have the backing of all the top economists of the country?"
TLDR: dont call him a new hope when he really has nothing going for him besides for his bain career, which was quite successful.

The play on words was intentional; not only because of the obvious star wars connection, but because of Obama's campaign and those tri-color posters with "HOPE" written across the bottom last election cycle. He ended up not being the hope I was looking for; Romney is looking like a better solution now.
I have thought about their differing policies, specifically their tax strategies. I have many reasons for not appreciating a system that taxes productivity (the more productive you are, the less you get for what you do). It seems wrong that we would punish people for being successful. Economic reasons aside, it's just plain not fair IMHO. I lived in poverty for the vast majority of my life. Not once did I feel like I had the right to go to the wealthy neighborhood and tell those people to give me their money because I needed it more than they did. Romney and Obama, when you look at the TOTAL tax burden on the middle and lower class, have almost the same progressive tax system. It's only the burden on the upper class that is vastly different, and vastly unfair in Obama's plan.
As for foreign policy, I would have a lot more respect for Obama as a diplomat if he could successfully work with his very own divided congress. But he cannot. How can I expect him to navigate deeply divided, complicated foreign diplomacy issues, when he can't even bring his own house together? Romney's foreign blunders were not a big deal. Everyone makes them. And everyone likes to make fun of America. Romney isn't the foreign policy candidate I would have chosen -- I liked Huntsman better -- but I'll give him a chance. He was able to work with his congress in Mass effectively; I think that shows that he has the capability to be diplomatic.
I look forward to seeing what Romney has to offer; I've been too disappointed with Obama to give him a second term.

Actually, if you were to actually look at the demographics of the opolls, you would find that democrats were oversampled again. Not by much in Virginia and Florida, but by about 9% in Ohio - it's the only way they can make Obama look good in the polls at all.
