Obama: Focusing on Benghazi

“State Department documents obtained by NBC News list 230 separate security incidents in Libya over 11 months, indicating that the environment was fragile,” NBC’s Andrea Mitchell reported on NBC Nightly News.

Reuters: “U.S. State Department officials on Tuesday offered their most detailed description yet of the dramatic events in Benghazi that led to the death of a U.S. ambassador, but they backed away from earlier assertions that the events were triggered by protests against an anti-Islam video. The officials were briefing reporters on the eve of a congressional hearing into on the attack last month, which is expected to focus on security missteps by the department.”

The AP adds, “Senior State Department officials on Tuesday revealed for the first time certain details of last month's tragedy in the former Libyan rebel stronghold, such as the efforts of a quick reaction force that rushed onto the scene and led the evacuation in a fierce gun battle that continued into the streets. The briefing was provided a day before department officials were to testify to a House committee about the most serious attack on a U.S. diplomatic installation since al-Qaida bombed the U.S. embassies inKenya and Tanzania 14 years ago. The account answers some questions and leaves others unanswered. Chief among them is why for several days the Obama administration said the assault stemmed from a protest against an American-made Internet video ridiculing Islam, and whether the consulate had adequate security.”

“The fatal attack on a U.S. diplomatic compound in Libya last month has become a test of Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton’s leadership and a threat to her much-admired legacy as America’s top diplomat just a few months before she plans to step down,” the Washington Post writes. “Clinton was among the first Obama administration officials to publicly condemn the attack and mourn the deaths of Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens and three other Americans. But as the State Department has weathered Republican-led criticism that it misread warning signs before the Sept. 11 attack, Clinton has been far less visible.”

The Washington Post’s Greg Sargent: “[Democratic pollster Stan] Greenberg told me in an interview that his new research persuaded him that Mitt Romney beat Obama in the debate for a simple reason. Unmarried women — a critical piece of Obama’s coalition — did not hear Obama telling him how they would make their lives better. By contrast, they did hear Romney telling them he’d improve their lives.  Greenberg says the research also indicates a clear route to winning reelection, however. ‘This is a major turning point and an opportunity for the president,’ he says.”

“President Obama will attend his last fundraiser of the 2012 campaign Thursday and then shift into top gear following his disastrous recent debate performance that vaporized his polling lead over challenger Mitt Romney,” The Hill writes. “With momentum in the race flipping to the Republican, sources have told The Hill the president will spend the rest of the campaign at swing-state rallies or preparing for the next two debates instead of attending more private fundraisers.”

“The owners of the children’s show ‘Sesame Street’ have asked the Obama campaign to pull down an ad released Tuesday that shows an image of Big Bird and mocks Republican nominee Mitt Romney for holding up the popular children’s character as a symbol of unnecessary government spending,” the Wall Street Journal writes, adding, “Obama campaign spokesman Ben LaBolt said the request was under review.”

Romney on the Big Bird attack: "You have to scratch your head when the president spends the last week talking about saving Big Bird. I actually think we need to have a president who talks about saving the American people and saving good jobs."

All I can say is "It's about damn time" that the truth is finally being meekly let out on this website ! The State Dept is not "backing away", they have confirmed they never made the report.

Someone in the White House/Obama administration is lying ! Why ? Why would Obama repeat the BS about "spontaneous demonstrations" when this was obviously a planned, Al Qaeda attack .... that was indirectly aided by a failure of our government to provide adequate security which was requested by Stevens.

Why ? Because there is a Presidential election coming soon and Barack Hussein Obama does not want to acknowledge that extremist muslim terrorism is still "ALIVE and KICKING". That would go counter to his talking points that Osama bin Laden is dead, and Al Qaeda is "on their heels".

The "Sham-Wow" salesman will not get far selling this crap ! You kill one terrorist, and more will step up to take his place. That is the reality Obama will not admit !

The "blame game" seems to be all that is left to the Obama administration. Telling the truth does not seem to be an option. It might require Presidential action and conflict with the Hollywood campaigning spotlight he craves !

Blame game my ass. Are not the retadicans not part of the congress and senate. Where were they when the the POTUS asked for more money security at these embassies. And do not expect CIA to know everyone Alqaeda recruits everyday. Everybody including GNOPER nutheads thought it was the video that caused the attacked because of the timing. It does change the fact that we lost honorable Americans. Let the families grieve and let the CIA continue to investigate. Trust me The POTUS will make sure all that were involved will pay as he has done with so many. Unlike he GNOPER nutheads who had this country attacked under thier watch and we lost thousands.

I do believe Obama supports terrorism and the Muslim brotherhood. It is my belief and I believe that his record has proved me correct. I know their are a few who will argue but that is my belief.

they will not be arguing today, its like a ghost town. They have spent months believing the hype machine and reality is starting to set in. Even Jen aka Feisty is not here, she is busy looking for work as she will be out of work on 11/7

Perhaps, Obama is simply a closet muslim. That would explain why, when he shut down NASA , he changed their "mission" to working on improving muslim relations... something totally incongruos with their original purpose. It would also explain why he dislikes Netanyahu and recently was unable to "find time" in his schedule to meet with him while he was here in the U.S. ... but had time for campaigning and TV appearances.

Furthermore, Obama appears indecisive and weak in dealing with the Iranian nuclear threat

Ouch! Score another touch down and home run hit for Romney and a total fail by Obama's focus on non issues and nonsense. Looks like another beat down coming in their next debate.

What rings my bell is that these same fools on here won't acknowledge the same rhetoric when it comes to 9/11 and Bush, or Katrina and Bush.

But, they are in full force today with this nonsensical garbage and finger-pointing.

Still beating the Bush drum when Obama is Bush on steroids except ten time more with socialistic delusional narcissism added. The Appeaser in Chief can't run on his failed record for the past 4 years especially his totally disastrous Middle East policy.

Watch the Congressional Hearing on the Benghazi failure today and see why.

You sir, are as delusional as this place you call home. Leave the washington rhetoric out of this conversation. You have a President of the United States of American under direct influence to the fate of peace in the Midle East that purposely and for electorial security dreamed up a match, a never seen youtube trailer, that almost started the world on fire. Yet you and your ilk hide behind whatever it is you call reality and dream of ways to blame yet again others.

It is easy now for me to say that not only is NBC dining on kool-aid you sir lap up their spillage.

Anyone who has been in a war zone knows that what really happened isn't exactly known at the time it was happening. It takes time to sort things out. One person says one thing happened and another says something quite differently. Since there was the rioting going on at the same time it was, perhaps, confusing. How does one know at the time of such an incident whether those attacking are Al Qaeda or simply Muslim rioters? But the media has to know yesterday what is happening tomorrow so they can blab it to the world. That often causes wrong information to be reported. This isn't the first time this has happened and won't be the last no matter who sits in the Oval Office.

He's worried about it now because he is worried about being re-elected and his touring for campaign bucks is up Thursday anyhow. He is probably also fretting that some citizens see him as a Muslim who infiltrated this government in hopes of changing the US for the worse, from the inside. Just throwing out some food for thought.
