Sesame Street to Obama: Big Bird ad doesn't fly

COLUMBUS, OH -- Feathers were ruffled on Sesame Street on Tuesday when the Obama campaign launched a campaign ad starring Big Bird.

The new spot, which airs on cable networks, mocks Mitt Romney for saying during last week’s debate that he would cut public funding to the Public Broadcasting Service – even though he likes Big Bird.

But Sesame Workshop – the nonpartisan nonprofit behind Sesame Street – wasn’t pleased. In a statement, Sesame Workshop objected to the ad: “We have approved no campaign ads, and, as is our general practice, have requested that both campaigns remove Sesame Street characters and trademarks from their campaign materials.”

The ad begins with an ominous voiceover listing the names of Wall Street criminals, including Bernie Madoff and Kenneth Lay. The deep, dramatic voice then says, “It’s not Wall Street you have to worry about; it’s Sesame Street.”

The camera then cuts to a shot of Big Bird sleeping.

President Barack Obama has seized on Romney’s Big Bird comment to argue that his Republican challenger would crack down on beloved American institutions such as Sesame Street but would allow Wall Street to run wild.

Speaking to a crowd of 15,000 in Columbus, OH the President said, “Today (Romney) decided we’re going after Big Bird. Elmo’s making a run for the border and Oscar is hiding out in a trash can.”

Emphasizing the Sesame Street theme, recording artist will-i-am kicked off his performance at the Ohio event by playing the Sesame Street theme song.

The Obama campaign has also dispatched Big Bird mascots to stand outside Romney campaign events and even Michelle has entered the fray. On Tuesday, the first lady told supporters in Loudon, Va.: “We all know good and well that cutting Sesame Street is no way to balance a budget.”

Related: 'Sesame Street' wants Obama campaign to yank ad mentioning Big Bird

Speaking in Van Meter, Iowa, Romney fired back: “These are tough times with real serious issues. You have to scratch your head when the president spends the last week talking about saving Big Bird.”

The Romney campaign noted that Obama has in recent days made more public references to Big Bird than Libya – where the U.S. consulate was recently attacked and the ambassador killed.

But the Obama campaign stands by its strategy.

“The point we’re making here is that when Mitt Romney was given the opportunity to lay out how he would address the deficit … his first offering was to cut funding to Big Bird and that is absurd and hard to take seriously,” Obama campaign spokeswoman Jen Psaki told reporters.

With polls showing Romney improving since the debate, it remains to be seen whether the president’s “Big Bird Offensive” will sway undecided voters.

But one thing is clear – Big Bird says the campaign ad doesn’t fly.

It's going to go down as the most memorable line of the 2012 Romney campaign. No way that line was going to go without a response. No way.

And for all you Romney supporters out there, if you want to see the president get blasted yet again almost a week after the debate, tune into Ed Schultz on MSNBC. You have a friend in him.

This is what they refer to a Lean Forward. Evidently.

Ed was the one who told Democrats not to vote in the mid terms in '10 in his personal opposition to President Obama.

Once a republican, always a republican.

Dear Ed Schultz: There are thousands upon thousands of Obama supporters out there, giving their time, their money, their dedication to helping the president get re-elected.

None of them are complaining about President Obama's performance any longer. They have moved on.

It's very sad what you're doing to their morale.

Again.

They aren't complaining about President Obama. They're complaining about no one having the president's back on the Lean Forward station.

You did a great job on voter suppression. Thanks for that anyway. It was needed.

ONTOR, yes it is what he said. No one can build anything in this country without a whole lot of help from others, including the government.

And now we see republicans up to no good, as usual.

Per The Obama Diary:

The Government Accountability Board said in a release Monday that it and local election officials around the state have been receiving an increasing number of questions and complaints and recent mailings that contain errors that could interfere with voting.

One of the mailings in question from the Republican Party of Wisconsin incorrectly told residents in the heavily Democratic areas of Madison and Dane County to return voter registration applications to the town of Albion, even if they did not live there.

Priceless!

But I guess when you have to resort to childish antics because you have no record that even resembles success you become desperate and try anything to appear significant.

Big Bird, Sandra Fluke and other peoples taxes are NOT what American's are concerned with. Maybe someday when Barrack Hussein grows up a little more and realizes that envy and class warfare are not what will fix our problems he'll understand.

I doubt it though.

No, White Collar, I think I will go with any of these winners,

"Had he [Romney's dad] been born of Mexican parents, I'd have a better shot of winning this."

"Saturday Night Live' has the potential of looking slap-stick and not presidential."

"We use Ann sparingly right now so that people don't get tired of her."

About his own wife, really?

"There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it. That that's an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what."

"I want to taste this by the way. Let me show you how it's done: You take this (holds up a forkful of food) with your fork (puts food in mouth) and you put it in (laughter). That's good."

"The American people are not concentrated at all upon China, on Russia, Iran, Iraq."

"Frankly, I was born with a silver spoon."

"I have inherited nothing. Everything Ann and I have we have earned the old-fashioned way."

Really, no inheritance, huh?

On Obama's foreign policy:

"The president's foreign policy, in my opinion, is formed in part by a perception he has that his magnetism and his charm and his persuasiveness is so compelling that he can sit down with people like Putin and Chavez and Ahmadinejad, and they'll find we're such wonderful people that they'll go on with us. And they'll stop doing bad things."

"It's like, what's this president going to do about it?"

In reference to N. Korea's missile program, as if you can't act, don't threaten, Mittens.

And the winner!

"Those people I told you -- the 5 to 6 or 7 percent that we have to bring onto our side -- they all voted for Barack Obama four years ago. ... Because they voted for him, they don't want to be told that they were wrong, that he's a bad guy, that he did bad things, that he's corrupt."

What a real class act for Prez you Republicons have.

Evidently debates are all that matter to pundits.

Per DailyKos:

The U.S. attorney in Manhattan has accused Wells Fargo of defrauding a government-backed mortgage insurance program, in another major civil case brought in the wake of the housing bust and financial crisis.

The mortgage-fraud suit, filed by U.S. attorney Preet Bharara, seeks "hundreds of millions of dollars" in damages for claims the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has paid for defaulted loans "wrongfully certified" by Wells Fargo.

The suit alleges the San Francisco banking giant falsely certified loans insured by the government's Federal Housing Administration.

“As the complaint alleges, yet another major bank has engaged in a longstanding and reckless trifecta of deficient training, deficient underwriting and deficient disclosure, all while relying on the convenient backstop of government insurance," Bharara said in a statement.

Adding "accelerant to a fire," Bharara said, was Wells Fargo's bonus system that rewarded employees based on the number of loans it approved.

The lawsuit alleges the bank failed to properly underwrite more than 100,000 loans it certified to be eligible for FHA insurance. When Wells Fargo discovered problems with the loans, it failed to notify HUD, which administers the FHA program, as required, the suit said. The action alleges more than 10 years of misconduct.

That prosecutor is an Obama appointee.

Considering PBS costs the tax payer about $1 a year, I would think Romney could probably focus on something of importance. It was just bizarre that he opted to highlight this of all things in his debate points.

PBS broadcasts educational content to classrooms. Then again, classrooms are not a big ticket item in the GOP platform. Apparently higher education is a little too elitist. Amazing that being elite has become a dirty word to them.

PBS costs taxpayers annually about what the Pentagon spends in 6 hours. Romney doesn't plan on cutting a dime from the Military Industrial Complex feed trough so the cuts to PBS are of insignificant value towards fixing the deficit, but would be a huge loss to the public.

That being said, I think Obama's advisers were a little too trigger happy to capitalize on this latest Romney blunder with a cheap shot political ad.

The president was seemingly too tired during the debate and missed the golden opportunity for a clever response when Romney said it. The post debate Saturday Night Live sketch coupled with the ensuing twitter outrage was sufficient to call attention to it in a funny way. To jump on the tackle pile after the play is over is undignified to the Presidency, and to Big Bird, who wasn't mean spirited about the situation it at all.

Follow Big Bird's lead and take the high road. Let Romney snatch defeat from the jaws of victory on his own merit.

DJ - #1.21,

I find your post with respect to the cost of PBS to the taxpayer very telling of the left's perspective. Comical that you intone Romney proposes solving our economic problems by axing PBS and the CPB, as it only costs a dollar per taxpayer; rather than the larger picture of borrowing money from a foreign source (with an arguably greater economic position than we have currently). Certain that you are familiar with the "death by a thousand cuts" axiom, that is where we are. PBS/CPB represent only one of the thousands of individual "dollars" that represent cuts to our economy and subsequently burdens on the taxpayer that can and should be able to stand on their own. Put in perspective, the question is really "why should we risk our basic economic soverenity by borrowing money from China to support wants, not needs, in the current fiscal climate?"

I have yet to work with or encounter someone who has a degree from Sesame Street, PBS, or the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

PBS is $2.1 billion corporation and much of their revenue comes from merchandising. The CEO makes a little over $980,000 a year.

When our economy is roaring, our budget is balanced, our deficit is slashed and our country is rolling in dough, then let's contribute a little to an organization that will get on just fine without our half a billion a year. Let's contribute to all kinds of nonessential programs. But not now.

That the Obama administration/campaign is missing the point and making jokes shows they are not taking our dismal fiscal situation seriously, and has no intention of putting our fiscal house in order any time soon.

Half a billion here, and half a billion there and pretty soon we'll wind up with some real money saved and get our priorities in order.

When it comes to making a choice between supporting PBS, who clearly doesn't need tax payer money or shoring up programs for the needy, who are we supposed to choose?

Pat, there are some amongst us who will deny what is happening because it suits their own agenda. This I posted a week or so ago. Voter suppression and voter intimidation is very real and happening every day.

Voter Harassment, Circa 2012

Published: September 21, 2012

This is how voter intimidation worked in 1966: White teenagers in Americus, Ga., harassed black citizens in line to vote, and the police refused to intervene. Black plantation workers in Mississippi had to vote in plantation stores, overseen by their bosses. Black voters in Choctaw County, Ala., had to hand their ballots directly to white election officials for inspection.

This is how it works today: In an ostensible hunt for voter fraud, a Tea Party group, True the Vote, descends on a largely minority precinct and combs the registration records for the slightest misspelling or address error. It uses this information to challenge voters at the polls, and though almost every challenge is baseless, the arguments and delays frustrate those in line and reduce turnout.

The thing that’s different from the days of overt discrimination is the phony pretext of combating voter fraud. Voter identity fraud is all but nonexistent, but the assertion that it might exist is used as an excuse to reduce the political rights of minorities, the poor, students, older Americans and other groups that tend to vote Democratic.

In The Times on Monday, Stephanie Saul described how the plan works. True the Vote grew out of a Tea Party group in Texas, the King Street Patriots, with the assistance of Americans for Prosperity, a group founded by the Koch brothers that works to elect conservative Republicans. It has developed its own software to check voter registration lists against driver’s license and property records. Those kinds of database matches are notoriously unreliable because names and addresses are often slightly different in various databases, but the group uses this technique to challenge more voters.

In 2009 and 2010, for example, the group focused on the Houston Congressional district represented by Sheila Jackson Lee, a black Democrat. After poring over the records for five months, True the Vote came up with a list of 500 names it considered suspicious and challenged them with election authorities. Officials put these voters on “suspense,” requiring additional proof of address, but in most cases voters had simply changed addresses. That didn’t stop the group from sending dozens of white “poll watchers” to precincts in the district during the 2010 elections, deliberately creating friction with black voters.

On the day of the recall election of Gov. Scott Walker of Wisconsin, the group used inaccurate lists to slow down student voting at Lawrence University in Appleton with intrusive identity checks. Three election “observers,” including one from True the Vote, were so disruptive that a clerk gave them two warnings, but the ploy was effective: many students gave up waiting in line and didn’t vote.

True the Vote, now active in 30 states, hopes to train hundreds of thousands of poll watchers to make the experience of voting like “driving and seeing the police following you,” as one of the group’s leaders put it. (Not surprisingly, the group is also active in the voter ID movement, with similar goals.) These activities “present a real danger to the fair administration of elections and to the fundamental freedom to vote,” as a recent report by Common Cause and Demos put it.

The Voting Rights Act of 1965 prohibits intimidation or interference in the act of voting, but the penalties are fairly light. Many states have tougher laws, but they won’t work unless law enforcement officials use them to crack down on the illegal activities — handed down from Jim Crow days — of True the Vote and similar groups.

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/09/22/opinion/voter-harassment-circa-2012.html?_r=0
(RJ)

WAKE UP PEOPLE

As we approach election time, there are a number of states where the issue of Voter Suppression is still unresolved. In most instances, these matters are still before the Courts hopefully all will be resolved before Election Day. Some states are voting already, some states start early voting soon, absentee ballots are being mailed, so there is plenty of opportunity for confusion to enter the picture not to mention intimidation. It is shameful we have to even consider the possibility that many of our citizens would be prevented in any way from voting but it is a sad fact. It is even a sadder fact, that there hasn’t been more attention, more outrage that this is taking place and it deeply saddens me that many will do nothing about it. How can some citizens be so indifferent or even willfully blind to what is happening? All of these attempts at suppression are happening only in states with Republican Legislatures and Governors.

These attempts at Voter Suppression will affect many who would most likely vote Democrat, the students, the inner city working poor, the elderly and the infirm. They count too and they should. Election Day, is the one day when everyone is equal, everyone gets one vote, doesn’t matter where you live, what you do or have, everyone is equal for that one day. Ask yourselves why should anyone eligible be excluded or intimidated.

Make yourself available if you can to help someone to vote. Take them to register or help them get an ID and on Election Day help get some to the polls. It really is important

After I had been on the losing end in a debate, I think I would be offering something of substance to turn the tide back in my favor. Speaking about Big Bird and making ads including Big Bird doesn't make me feel that Obama "gets it". If he loses this race, I will think back to how he, and more importantly his campaign, handled the recovery from the disaster at the first debate. It's not making a good impression on me.

How can anyone think that Romney will help the deficit? He has already said he will get us into war with Iran and will cut taxes for the top bracket. He plans to cut PBS to do this? PBS is not a million dollar corporation. It is run on endowment, contributions and public money. CTW is a corporation but they only supply programming to PBS they do not get contributions from the government. The educational programming on PBS helps children learn to read as well as providing interesting, educational programs for adults. My guess is that those who want to cut it have never watched it because it does not carry reality TV. It's programming for adults tends to be more erudite than that.

President Obama has said all along he is building a strong base for the economy which means the growth is slower but sustainable and not as likely to crash as it does when the republicans get a hold of it. He is getting us out of wars that led to the deficit and is trying to use diplomacy to avoid others.

Romney will be the end of Social Security. Think about that. There are fewer young people today and if he goes into more wars he will kill or disable many of those younger workers we need paying into the system to keep it afloat. Then he will take away all the programs that help their families get by until they can get back on their feet. We can't afford anymore years like we had under Bush. Unless you are a banker or in the 1%, you probably weren't doing too well at the end of his term.

But I guess when you have to resort to childish antics because you have no record that even resembles success you become desperate and try anything to appear significant.

Obama DID accomplish something. He kept someone out of the White House for the last 4 years that would have cut my Pell Grant and doubled my debt load for college.

The only people who aren't 1%'ers that vote for Romney are in denial that they ARE NOT and probably never will be rich. They are posers and wanna-be's.

Does it suck paying for someone to get free food and college when you work and pay taxes? Sure, but isn't it worth the peace of mind knowing that if YOU get laid off someone will clothe and shelter you, and give you medical care?

I'm a selfish bastard myself, I really don't care about those less fortunate, but the point of social welfare is a safety net for EVERYONE. Noone is above potential financial ruin, and for me paying extra taxes to care for the needy is worth the peace of mind of knowing that I will be cared for if something happens to me.

We should be concerned about the mental health of the President and a collective insanity that is quickly descending upon the Democratic party. While the middle class suffers and the Middle East exports anti-American terror and plots nuclear destruction, our President attempts to draw our attention to imaginary children's characters and ridiculous Youtube videos. Seriously, this is reason for real concern.

Funding PBS costs about the same as it costs to keep one American soldier in Afghanistan for 5 days. Now Romney wants to increase the military budget until it is greater than it was during the Korean War. What enemy is he going to create to fight? Whose children is he going to sacrifice on the alter of corporate profits? Most certainly not his.

Ok you chickenhawks out there, I'll make a deal with you. My tax money goes to PBS and you can waste your tax money and children on wars for corporate profit, just like you did in the Iraq Abortion.

My tax money goes to PBS

@miklkit,

listen to what Romney is saying. Your tax money is not going to PBS. We are borrowing money with interest from China to pay PBS.

In other words, America has to borrow from China to pay PBS.

It's like you having to borrow money with interest from a relative to pay your car loan. It's not suppose to work that way. You are just digging yourself deeper into a hole.

Obama sees nothing wrong with this philosophy because he adds one trillion a year to our deficit. He is digging the taxpayer deeper into a hole.

Adam0

Does it suck paying for someone to get free food and college when you work and pay taxes?

I'm a selfish bastard myself, I really don't care about those less fortunate, but the point of social welfare is a safety net for EVERYONE.

I understand.

Now, my good selfish bastard friend, lemme ax you a question.

We all agree we need social safety nets, and this is the responsibility of a compassionate free society, right?

In order to provide these services we agree to a method of government redistribution of tax dollars in an efficient and cost effective manner right?

Before I go any further, let me give you a few facts about our governments efficiency and cost effectiveness.

The federal government made at least $125 billion in improper payments in 2011.

Washington spends $25 billion annually maintaining unused or vacant federal properties.

Examples from multiple Government Accountability Office (GAO) reports of wasteful duplication include 342 economic development programs; 130 programs serving the disabled; 130 programs serving at-risk youth; 90 early childhood development programs; 75 programs funding international education, cultural, and training exchange activities; and 72 safe water programs. This report identifies more than $400 billion in annual government spending on 1,500 different programs that are wasteful, duplicative, or inefficient

Health care waste, fraud, abuse and corruption is estimated to cost taxpayers more than $750 billion annually.

Now, pay special attention to this last one.

Government auditors spent the past five years examining all federal programs and found that 22 percent of them, costing taxpayers a total of $123 billion annually, fail to show any positive impact on the populations they serve.

Here, as in the other examples, we have our own government admitting its incompetence in managing just about anything short of a lemonade stand. Read that last government auditor report very carefully.

Almost 25% of the social programs our criminal government runs do NOTHING for the populations they’re intended to help, at a cost of almost 1/8th of a trillion dollars EVERY YEAR!

If you add just these 5 examples of waste, fraud, abuse and corruption we lose $1.423 trillion EVERY YEAR!!!!!!! Now I’m sure some of these reports are duplicative in themselves so let’s just take half of the governments own costs, or about $700 billion.

Call me crazy, but I just don’t see a very good return on my tax dollar investment.

Do you?

Now, having said all that, how can you, or any other reasonable person, agree to give our criminal government another penny of our hard earned money with this level of incompetence and corruption?

I don’t care if you’re living in a cardboard box poor or Warren Buffett filthy rich, NO ONE should be willing to just give our government anything more until they clean up this massive and embarrassing amount of waste.

I don’t think you’re anymore a selfish bastard than the next guy. I also doubt you don’t care about those less fortunate. I don’t think anyone in our great republic is that cold hearted.

What I can only hope is that you’re not so misguided to think that our government is qualified to provide the social safety nets that we need.

That $700 billion is the equivalent of 14 MILLION jobs that pay $50,000 a year.

That $700 billion is the equivalent of $140 million Americans getting $5,000 a year for health insurance, bills or food.

That $700 billion is the equivalent of every man woman and child in America pocketing $2,500 every year. Do you think that, over 10 years, $25,000 would have helped you pay for your college education?

Do you really believe our government is a better steward of your money than you are?

So, my question to you is. Are you willing to continue to blindly submit to an ever expanding, corrupt, unsustainable government that doesn’t care about how much money you give it because it will just keep wasting so much of it?

I think even us selfish bastards know the answer to that question.

BTW, if all we do is demand the government just use the savings from cleaning up all this waste, fraud, abuse and corruption to pay off our massive debt, it will reduce it by more than $7 TRILLION over the next 10 years.

This is better than Bowles-Simpson, the Ryan Plan and even the Rand Paul Plan.

The fact of the matter is, Big Bird and co. don't want to align with a single political force. All they wanna do is teach your kids, because the majority of you lazy people won't do it yourselves. They don't care about the Liberals, or the Conservatives, or all the crazy going on between you people. They just want to teach the kids.

Actually, Obama got hit with a double whammy. First by Big Bird & Co. Then by the ad itself which has no credibility, at least to those who are interested in the truth. By no means did Romney ever indicate that he wanted Big Bird off the air. But, it seems that the left has no concept that just because someone doesn't agree that politicians should forcibly take money from people to spend it on whatever pet project that the politician thinks is a good idea that the project is not a good idea. The fact is that Sesame Street, Barney and a lot of other shows would survive just fine without being subsidized by the taxpayers. And that is the point Romney made. But, the left just doesn't seem to understand that and could care less if they speak the truth about it.

This is where people lose credibility. You want what YOU like subsidized, but not someone YOU do not like....regardless if they are essentially the same scenario.

And don't give me that "in the classroom" garbage. If our teachers are teaching kids by watching tv, then it's no wonder the education system is in shambles. Of course, that's how parents are teaching their kids manners & morality these days....How's that working out? Not too good.

The fact that the Obama camp continues to camp out on little things (like Big Bird) shows that they have no substance or message on the big things. America is really tiring of this shrinking presidency, and this whole big bird thing is just one more example. Romney made a point during the debate that in tough economic times, he would defund PBS. Big Bird, Inc and Sesame Street do fine all by themselves and do not NEED government money. PBS is an animal from a bygone era, when many had very limited choices of entertainment. Romney is correct that we've got to start looking at things through the lens of, "Is it important enough to borrow money from China to pay for it?" The answer, in many cases, is NO. Sadly, Obama's response is to crisscross the country trying to make Romney look small for threatening to kill Big Bird. What he isn't realizing is that Romney isn't the one who looks smaller and smaller every day.

President Obama has used Big Bird as a symbol. Some of you seem unaware of the value of PBS and its shows like Sesame Street for the education of American children, especially those who grow up in homes where the English language is not spoken. Many of our children come from homes where their parents are unequipped, unable, or too overworked to spend time teaching them the things they learn by watching TV shows like Sesame Street. Too many kids would miss out on the head start they get on learning if PBS were cut out.

Without PBS, this is the kind of junk our kids would be left with: Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, Keeping up with the Kardashians, and the worst... Fox "news'.

Obama would choose to spend our tax dollars on books.

Romney would buy bombs.

I know what my priorities are.

That 1% left over is what we are borrowing from China. I believe the percentage is higher but for this argument let's just go with 1%.

Romney made it very clear in the debates that he wants PBS to continue but not if we have to borrow from China. He is correct.

Romney has shown that he will fight for the rich. He believes they are the solution and not the problem in our economy. When he was governor of Massachusetts, he faced a budget deficit which he solved by avoiding any tax increases on the rich, instead raising user fees (which hit middle and lower classes very hard) and cutting aid to education, job training programs, and trade assistance. College tuitions went up average of 62% because of Romney's policies.

Massachusetts had the slowest jobs recovery in their recorded history in Romney's first 2.5 years. The state lost 200,000 jobs in 2001. Romney ranked 43rd in job growth and 50th in median wage growth in this period according to nonpartisan Mass. Budget and Policy Center's 9-3-06 report.

Romney's trickle down economic policy failed in Massachusetts. His 47% comments tell us his attitude towards economic solutions has not changed since his time as Governor of Massachusetts.

I'm voting for Pres. Obama because I believe he is fighting for the middle class.

NEXT ELECTION DETERMINED BY CANDIDATE FOLKS DON’T WANT

Written by Glenn Honeycutt, Huntsville, OHIO

I continue to be amazed by those mesmerized with the shallowness of Barack Obama. To suggest he is the answer to solve our woes on economic and foreign policy, energy practices, our public education system and an out-of-control national debt, based on his dismal performance, is mind-boggling. His divisiveness has pitted Americans against one another. He has time for Dave Letterman, but can’t find time to meet with the prime minister of Israel, who fears he is facing Armageddon. His negligence and ignorance could potentially light the powder keg causing the Middle East to explode. It took a week of denial (while campaigning in Vegas) to get a quasi response to the terrorist assault on our foreign embassy, that killed four Americans. He is no more presidential than a three dollar bill, as evidenced by his leak of classified intelligence (Bin Laden) for political gain. I’m sick of the whining and excuses about what he inherited. It’s time to stop the charades and Land of Oz rhetoric. Look at what he’ll inherit if reelected. Can you imagine the whining we’ll hear? He’s incompetent for goodness sake. We need more from our president than cheesy smiles, mediocre golf performances and bricks launched toward the rim.

It appears the only way those on the left can promote Obama is to attack and denigrate his opponents. This has been the mode of operation by liberals/progressives/socialists/Marxists for years. It’s a Saul Alinsky strategy from his book Rules for Radicals, (1971) internalized and practiced by Obama. Smear tactics are a major part of their mission statement. They certainly can’t boast about Obama’s accomplishments, because he has very few. He is not only “Sleepless in Seattle” (Washington), but “Clueless in DC” (Washington). Most loyal Democrats don’t realize their party has been shanghaied by a group promoting top-to-bottom, radical change. They are good hearted people who want the best for their country, have confused arrogance with likeability and, don’t realize they’ve been bamboozled.

The hidden agenda (it is becoming clear) includes spreading the wealth (redistribution), bigger government, promoting secularism (attacking Christianity, an Alinsky principle) and reducing U.S. world power and influence, making us comparable to third world countries. These ingrates want to diminish accomplishments and lower our world status (confirmed in the Movie: 2016). The oil discovery in the Midwest suggests we have more oil reserves than the entire Middle east. Thousands of jobs could be created and our dependency on foreign oil would evaporate. Yet Obama loans billions to foreign countries to drill offshore, places restrictions on our own oil companies and permits gas prices to double, causing further depression on our economy. Where does such a witless mindset come from? Should the U.S. become a Marxist state (beyond what Woodrow Wilson and Roosevelt initiated) or China eventually gains complete control of our economy, guess what natural resource will be confiscated first?

The naysayers in denial have a closed mind, don’t understand what makes our country great and will wake up one day to ask, “What happened? Did something happen?” The progressive movement began years ago. They are now very well organized and have infiltrated a large percentage of the lame street news media, education (especially colleges — most professors are liberals), health care, energy and have manipulated the general public into putting a George Soros puppet in the White House.

If you want to understand a man’s ideology and what he stands for, all you have to do is look at role models during his youth and the people he surrounds himself with today. “Birds of a feather do flock together.” When you hang out with communists, Marxists, terrorists, socialists and secularists, then sprinkle in the Chicago mentality, guess what you get? I understand those in denial could never acknowledge this or even admit the risk involved with hanging out next to a hornet’s nest. Sooner or later the folks get stung. To make an error in judgment is understandable. To make the same mistake a second time reinforces what progressives have said about U.S. citizens for years. “The American people are dumb!” Unenlightened adults would deserve the consequences, our children don’t.

Presidential candidate, Mitt Romney has his flaws and is by no means a perfect option. But when you look at the alternative and decide on the best person to address our sad state of affairs, the choice is clear. It’s not possible to lead from behind or alter ideals ingrained in a person since childhood. The paramount question “Would you buy a used car from Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reed, Eric Holder or Barack Obama?” I hope not. It takes more than two hands to count Obama’s broken promises, including C-span postings and that of being transparent. His hundreds of executive orders circumventing Congress are shady at best. He promised if he couldn’t turn the economy around in three years, he didn’t deserve a second term. Oops?! Forgot, another lie! We’ve been fed a steady diet of lies and deception and many have taken the bait, hook, line and sinker. It’s time to spit it out and “just let him go,” as suggested by Clint Eastwood’s classical presentation. Did you notice the typical liberal/progressive reaction and strategy of bashing Eastwood? It proves the point made above. It rolled off him like water on a duck.

Water on a duck brings to mind another point. I have suggested to friends if the choice for president came down to Obama or Mickey Mouse, I’d have to vote for Mickey. Then I realized during the last election that Acorn, the group Obama served as a community organizer (the only job on his resume), registered Mickey to vote (in Chicago), along with several dead people. So, I’ve adjusted the option. The choice is no longer Mickey but Donald Duck. Once again, the choice is clear. When Donald was asked by the lame street news media (in the tank for Obama) about his platform and what he thought of his opposition, he indicated he would keep American heads above water. As far as his opposition is concerned he simply replied with several ... “quack, quack, quacks.” Further, to counter the cry of “racist,” a typical Alinsky/Obama/Jackson/Sharpton/Progressive strategy to discredit those in disagreement, he would vote for Allen West, a black Florida congressman for president, in a heartbeat.

For those having difficulty grasping this piece of satire mocking the travesty of the past three and a half years, let me suggest the election will come down to the person the folks don’t want. If those on the receiving end of entitlements and government handouts think more (selfishly) about free stuff they’ll get, rather than the country’s welfare, we will all be in deep doo-doo. Those who can’t do the math and have their heads buried where the sun doesn’t shine will bring about financial ruin and our own Armageddon. If I’ve offended anyone with my candid and straightforward remarks, that’s too bad. Too many folks have been hoodwinked by the current White House narcissist, concerned more about reelection and world favorability than the future of our great country. He has made clear his priorities through apologies. His ideology goes against the wind, the grain and the American people. If you look up, that’s the bottom of the bus zipping by over your head, filled with an empty load of promises, hope and change. For those moved to rebuff the irony of this parody with the typical liberal/leftist reaction, I quote the words of our beloved 40th President, Ronald Reagan, “There you go again.”

Considering PBS costs the tax payer about $1 a year, I would think Romney could probably focus on something of importance. It was just bizarre that he opted to highlight this of all things in his debate points.

Um, I just saw on CNN last night their Federal Funding this year from taxpayer dollars will be $444 million.

That doesn't sound like chump change to me dude, the way you're trying to pass it off anyway.

I suppose you want Romney to cut all of Obama's mindless spending a Trillion at a time, huh? It don't work that way.....you have to cut here and there so over time our deficit is reduced.

Although it's going to take decades to reduce all the wasted taxpayer money Obama has thrown all over the place.

Obama wasn't wise to use BB unauthorized, but he didn't bring it up...Romney did. So who started the "picking on the puppet" and who actually said they'd cut funding? My 32 yr. old nephew and 14 yr.old daughter grew up with Sesame Street...looking at some of the alternative shows, I'd have to unplug my TV these days, if my baby were still a baby. Michelle actually offered the wisest coment.

In the 2008 campaign, Obama said that if you don't have a record to run on, you make a big deal about little things as a distraction.

He's obviously using that strategy in this campaign. Obama obviously doesn't want to cut ANYTHING, even though it means that we keep going hopelessly into debt.

Why would your candidate say that he would cut PBS but would not even speak about oil subsidies. I happen to live in an area where these so called small businesses are receiving subsidies for drilling -- these are not small businesses, they are multi million dollar companies--even the small ones.

The CEO of the Jim Henson Co. makes a few million more than what the govt pays them out of our poscket. Sesame St. doesn't need taxpayer subsidies. As for Romney not inheriting; he inherited and promptly gave it all to charity. He is a self made man. How much have your guys Joe and Barry kicked in? As for voter suppression; I know you libs count on illegals to be part of your 47%, the rest of us are tired of our votes being diluted. That is the true voter suppression. Personally, I remember when you only had 1 day to vote and had to show ID. Oh, BTW, speaking of voter suppression keep your NBPP buddies away from the polls this year(I carry concealed).

Obama desperation - that's all it is - Obama desperation. But when Obama can't run on his record he scratches and claws to find anything - ANYTHING!! - that he can try to use to change voters minds. But I think the Obama campaign is imploding before our very eyes because the people want a leader. And that is something we have not had the last 4 years.

Obama has blamed everybody and everything else for his failures including:

Volcanoes

Republicans

Videos

ATM's

Oil Companies

Middle East

Tea Party

Banks

The only ones Obama HASN'T blamed is Sasquatch and the Loch Ness Monster - but give Obama time.

The Obama administration CAN'T run on their record and will even bring Big Bird into the discussion to try and distract the voters - but it won't work this time............

David89 -

No one said anything about where PBS ranks in where things need to be cut. It was used, primarly, because Jim Lehrer was the moderator and he works for PBS.

Now, what was behind the premise was, IS IT IMPORTANT ENOUGH TO BORROW MONEY FROM CHINA? The answer is NO.

Here's a novel idea - if you want your daughter to watch Sesame Street, donate to PBS. I do, in addition to my tax dollars going to PBS.

Now for the others on this thread that apparently stay awake all night worrying about so called voter intimidation by requiring ID - do you stay awake worrying that those same people cannot get into a casino, or buy a pack of cigarettes, or a bottle of beer, or fly on an airplane, or cash a check, get into an R rated movie, or go to the DNC convention? You need a photo ID to do all of those things. Why haven't you been protesting casinos, bars, conventions, airlines, banks, etc, for forcing people to show ID?

Unfortunately, the left throws around the term subsidies so much that it is meaningless. To the left, if you keep your money you are being given a subsidy. So, please be specific about what subsidies you are talking about. Like most lefties who throw the term around, I suspect that you are just repeating what you've heard from another lefty.

Im seeing alot of rhetoric on this thread but few facts. Fact U.S. oil production has risen by almost 20 percent the last 4years why havent gas prices gone down? Answer because oil is a global market place! Why would they sell it cheaply here when they could sell it abroad at a higher price? They wouldnt and they dont. You could dig up every gallon of oil on the continent (if you could refine it and you cant because oil companies shut down many refineries here in the States to keep the price of gas high) and it would hardly put a dent in gas prices. It is not in oil companies interests to have cheap gas!!! Why would they sell a product for 2 dollars that people will pay 4 for? They wouldnt and they dont. An earlier poster equated being liberal or progressive with being marxist, thats the equivilant of me saying a conservative is the same as a fascist. If I believe that the trend of the rich getting richer and nobody else getting anywhere is alarming and I decide to use my freedom of speech and my vote to try to get other people to be aware of it too then Im a liberal or a commie....its just words to incite peoples hatred.

I truly believe the wealthy have become far too powerful in this country. A man on welfare may or may not be trying his best to get a job but you know hes probably not proud of it. A wealthy man however generally devotes his entire life to the accumulation and protection of wealth, it consumes him. To me one is as bad as the other. To me the lazy welfare food stamp recipient is just as good as the wealthy, low wage payer who always finds the tax loophole and the hides his money in Swiss banks, because in the end they are just taking care of who they love most...themselves.

Some of you seem unaware of the value of PBS and its shows like Sesame Street for the education of American children,

Some of you seem unaware of the VALUE of PBS. The Sesame Workshop alone is worth a third of a billion dollars. So why exactly do they need any money from us again?

You should watch them instead the other news stations, if you want the facts and no one's personal spin on it! And, I recommend C-Span to see your representatives for yourself!

And, we are not borrowing money from China to pay for PBS. We are borrowing money from China because some people think they are better than everyone else and don't want to pay the same percentage of taxes!

It is not in oil companies interests to have cheap gas!!! Why would they sell a product for 2 dollars that people will pay 4 for?

And apparently you are not immune to the rhetoric over fact phenomenon on this board. You do realize that the oil companies have to buy the oil they refine into gasoline right? Oil companies don't make any more per gallon of gas regardless of whether the price is $4 or $2 so they most definitely benefit from cheap gas. The cheaper the cost of gas the more of it people will use meaning greater profits for the oil companies.

If I believe that the trend of the rich getting richer and nobody else getting anywhere is alarming

Trend??? Gee, more rhetoric... what a shock. It is only since the recession that the trend of upward mobility for all Americans has taken a stumble and once the economy is back on track that trend will continue. You must not be very old if you don't see how people today are better off than they were even just a generation ago and you sure as hell are looking for any facts to back up your assumptions. http://www.treasury.gov/resource-center/tax-policy/Documents/incomemobilitystudy03-08revise.pdf

@Backcountry164 Why not military spending? The military industrials would have us think we need to spend even more on defense..but what is the incredible amount we are spending on defense getting us now? Our enemies aren't threatened by our massive and powerful military. They know that nukes are the great equalizer, and they all rush out to get them like cowboys rushed out to get Colts. Our real weapon is our American dream of freedom and opportunity. We spend more on defense than the rest of the world combined, yet our enemies get bolder and bolder. Just look to Turkey to see what a successful Muslim country can be like (though not as religiously tolerant as I'd like) they are very peaceful and prosperous.

David: If you are going to present information as "factual" maybe you should actually state it factually?

First, yes oil production is up - but on PRIVATE land!! Obama has blocked a significant number of permits on PUBLIC land!! Oil production on PUBLIC land under Obama is 1/3 of oil production on PUBLIC land under Bush. So it is disingenuous to take CREDIT for increased oil production on PRIVATE land when the increased oil production is in SPITE of your policies and not because of your policies.

Second, oil prices are a commodity and commodities are priced globally. Our Federal Reserve is printing money because they are finding that borrowing it is becoming more difficult. And when a country prints MORE money it makes the current money devalued. Meaning GLOBALLY it takes more to buy the same amount of goods. Which means it is the printing of money that is also partially responsible for the increased cost of oil because it takes "more dollars" to buy the same amount of goods.

So when you pretend to know something and try to present as "factual" next time it might be a good idea to actually know what you are talking about first.

Which currency is the dollar supposed to be weakening against? Certainly not the Pound, Euro, or Yen, And why does it matter who's land the oil is coming from a 20 percent increase is still a 20 percent increase. As far as issuing debt we certainly aren't having any trouble doing that bond yields are at near historic lows (how long is the question).

It's funny how all of these guys go after "pirates" when they are in office but when it comes to an election year, we see the most gross examples of pirating or copyright infringement ever. If this was a regular corporation using trademarked video images or audio to promote something without the copyright holders permission, they would be banhammered with a cease and desist or DMCA takedown notice but since it's done in the name of "vote grabbing" it's OK and falls into a grey area, which is bulls--t. It's either copyright infringement or it's not. It's not based on whether or not a political clown (or president) thinks it would work for one of his ads. Sesame Street Workshop should sue the F-in pants off of the Obama Admin. for using the images and Will-I-Am for using the audio track. Please look at my link from the Treasury Dept, upward mobility is a very real thing. People don't stay in the lower quintiles, they routinely move up and into the higher categories. The implication that people at the bottom are stagnant is just false because they don't stay at the bottom. They transgress from the low to the middle and then to the higher. Surely you make more money than you did in your very first job even if the person in that job now makes the same as you did when you worked there.

I thank you for your correction sir and I will now state things "factually" I assert as a fact the major cause of global oil prices rising is demand from emerging markets such as China, India, Brasil, Argentina etc etc. I also assert that raising U.S. oil production even 200 percent would hardly make a dent in global prices due to emerging market growth. I also assert that such a boost to output while creating some jobs (a very welcomed side effect) would do almost nothing to bring down prices at our pumps.

But you aren't taking into consideration the impact such a thing would have on speculation. Let's not forget, speculation is a two-way street, it drives the cost of gas both up and down. Even small interruptions of supply drive prices dramatically higher, likewise even small increases in supply could drive prices down dramatically. If you doubt this just look at what happens every time a President taps the Strategic Reserve.

I admit some of these programs need cutting but you lay out this list like they are all useless wastes of money. Now you put some skin in the game and means test social security to 50 thousand in retirement income, raise income tax rates and capital gains on 250k hoouseholds and deep cuts to the military and maybe we can talk.

Hey; "Pat in Boston." This is Planeguy from Boston, and frankly sick of the Kennedy-esque liberal politics of the place. The Kennedys were the biggest putzes in American politics! They invented the earmark-vote buying process of the late 40's through today! They warehoused people in government subsedized housing projects, and every 4-to-6 years, came out and told those "warehoused" how wonderful their life was because Teddy, or Jack were providing the funds for their meger existance in rat, drug and booze infested projects. Many lost their life, and certinally their will for living in this; but along with crucifex, and a picture of Cardinal Cushing, they also had one of the Kennedy-putzes hanging on their wall, totally oblivious to the fact that the policies of the democratic party were putting them there, and keeping them there. But every 15th and 30th, they had a check, and hit the Tam O'shanter, or any tavern on the street to blow the stipen, without even realizing how they were being minipulated.

Then there was the "community activism" of the 1960's and 70's that, brought an overabundence of "government support" to Roxbury, Dorchester and Southie, which equally got squandered away; all at taxpayers expense. I use to deliver groceries there, and it was heartbreaking to see community parks and re centers built brand-new, only to have them ruined 2 months later by an uncaring population! The only thing that ultimately cleaned-up those areas were gentrification, and the proximity to good paying jobs in Boston!

Then there was W Arthur Garrity's social experiment in Bussing. While not a political party endeavor per se it was championed by the left for the social blending it would create. Funny thing was, I, as a white kid got bussed to a black school, which had race riots every day, but nary a mention of the plight in the broadcast or print news. Only the black kids going to white schools had the "international press coverage."

This leads into our current state of biased news reporting, where OZero has to totally blow it, before there is any criticism of him what-so-ever, and even then, it's tepid criticism.

After all, Obama's legacy is a direct descendent of the Kenedy "pay for votes wth other peoples money" ponzi scheme. Because after-all, POWER is the only commodity they seem to undersatand, and everyone else be damned!!

Yeah, Boston,,,,,,great place to visit, but unless you're a 1 percenter, not really good to live there, because the other 99%, only have about 1% to live on after all the taxes.

How can Obama ask me for more money for his campaign when this is the way he spends it. WTF! this is the most ridiculous ad I have seen yet! What a waste,, who cares about this issue,, our country is in a fix and this is what you speak of?

At least if your in a bubble you can see whats going on. even if your perspective is strange. If your heads in the sand your ass is showing and also available for anyone that may want to take advantage of that kind of situation.

    Big Bird is a 1%er .

And still gets some of those Obama freebies .

Did I read that right? America spends less than 1/150th on PBS that it spends on corporate welfare. That's Romney Hood for you. The wealthiest Americans, millionaires and billionaires, are begging "raise our taxes!" but Romney's answer is still "No! There's still a surviving program that teaches American kids to read!"

The military families are begging "Bring our children home!" but Romney's answer is still "No! There's this tiny little program that teaches American kids to read!" America spends as much on our military as all other countries of the world COMBINED, and this so we can be the world's babysitter. We send $3 billion to Israel every year, alone, and you guys are worried about a couple mil for Sesame Street? Why can't we ask other countries to BORROW the money they need from us? You know, PAY IT BACK? We don't need our troops stationed all over the world, protecting other countries when they could be at home, protecting our own. Time to slash military spending, and it's time to stop treating our military like it is some world's military. It is only our own military, and it is paid for only by our tax dollars.

BTW, notice that Romney is also catering to the hispanic vote? Don't be expecting any border protection from that guy. It was Reagan who first passed amnesty granting legalization to millions of illegals, and Bush Sr. who passed the 1990 Immigration Act which more than doubled our legal immigration rate. America now naturalizes more immigrants than all other nations of the world COMBINED, and it's due to Bush's 1990 Immigration Act. Look it up. Liberals were against it. Liberals were also against Reagan's amnesty act.

Our national debt grew from billions to trillions under Reagan's "trickle down economics", the same plan Romney has for corporations (the same corporations that are currently sending American jobs overseas). Even Bush Sr. called this plan "voodoo economics", and it most certainly didn't work! Clinton's term ended with a surplus, and the national debt clock was covered because it couldn't run backwards. Back then, the CBO projected every term would end with a surplus, under Clinton's rule called "pay as you go", and we would have the entire debt paid off by now. Instead, the national debt doubled from $5 trillion to $10 trillion under George W. Bush, as we fought two wars while obtaining extensive tax breaks, which went primarily to the wealthy. That's why Clint Eastwood accused the GOP of "spending like drunken sailors". American CEOs made 42 times what Americans workers made in the 1980s. Today, they make 343 times as much as American workers make. America's wealth gap has grown so much that the Middle Class has fallen into the hole. If you look at an index of standard of living or corruption, you will see that the poorest countries, with the lowest standards of living, tend to have the greatest wealth gap. This is the result of fraud and corruption, just as it was in our own country, with Wall Street. Corrupt countries lose their Middle Class.

Apple was making more money than America when 15 children committed suicide in their ipad factory in China. The problem with Obama's ad is that it's over everyone's heads. Obama consistently makes this mistake, as Bill Clinton has so often accused. He needs to stop overestimating the intellect of Americans (particularly when it comes to corporate lobbying on K Street), and start telling it like it is. He needs Clinton as his "secretary of explaining stuff" because he keeps assuming American voters have done their homework.

Obama bailed out the banks to prevent a second Great Depression. Look up the cause of the first one. If banks fail, the economy fails, because so much of it is dependent upon the banks. Then, Obama forced Wall Street to create their own fund, in case they need to be bailed out again, since they refused to leave their original derivatives plan that cause the first failure. Republicans voted against Wall Street Reform. I'm sorry, but the GOP is funded by the wealthy, and they will tell you only what they want you to hear, because they wish to remain wealthy. They have paid mouthpieces like Rush Limbaugh telling you that second hand smoke won't cause cancer, because he was being paid by the tobacco companies. Now, he's convincing you that global warming is a hoax, because he is being paid by the oil companies. Why not do your own homework and vote for yourself, not for the large corporations that purchase mouthpieces to feed you their misinformation? Snopes has a hundred times as many corrections for e-mail hoaxes spread by Republicans than for any hoaxes spread by liberals. The GOP just lies and you people listen.

Both of these usages likely fall under the "fair use" clause of the copyright law seeing as neither party was attempting to either profit from the usage or deny profit to the copyright holder.

They were denying profit by not paying royalties to the Workshop and attempting to profit from the usage is subjective since they get campaign contributions even though they weren't using the video or soundtrack to direct sell a tangible item.

It's all moot anyway because the political campaigns get a pass on almost anything. Look at the Do Not Call registry. The telemarketing boiler rooms are exempt from following the law in that regard because it's for a campaign. Congress made sure of that back when they crafted the law.

The big bird issue shows me that liberals are not serious about cutting federal spending. Every federal government program benefits someone, so if you mention cutting anything, the liberals would contend that you hate or want to kill the person who benefits. This might be why we run a 1 trillion dollar deficet. It seems the only thing they want to cut is military, which I believe is misguided

So did Romney and his message was pretty clear. He was saying that nothing was off the table, from the very large to the very small. All government spending must be reigned in. (except military spending of course)

@Backcountry: and why should military spending be off the table? The Pentagon didn't ask for and doesn't want Romney's huge spending increase. How about we keep some of that bloated defense budget at home and do some nation building here for a change?

What is Romney's true agenda for proposing to increase military spending so outrageously? Will he ever be honest about that (or anything else...)?

@Backcountry: and why should military spending be off the table?

Actually I've already addressed this. I didn't say military spending SHOULD be off the table, I said that for Romney it WOULD be. Why would you expect anything else from a republican today?

Will he ever be honest about that (or anything else...)?

If you libs are going to keep calling Romney a liar it's about time you started criticizing your own guy for the exact same thing because anything less makes you a hypocrite. Romney is playing the same BS game every politician, including Obama, plays by twisting and turning the facts. But we now know that our President told bald-faced lies to the world about what happened in Benghazi. Where the @!$%# is all the criticism from the left on that?????? If Bush had done the same thing you would all still be bitching about it 10 years later but not a peep when your guy does it. PATHETIC!

Sesame Street is so successful they can find alternate funding as opposed to our government having to borrow more money from Red China to support it. Because the federal government is already more than 16 trillion dollars in debt, I estimate that to repay the money that the federal government is borrowing, the tax payers will have to pay back 10 times the amount borrowed over a period of 180 years. I would think that there should be more important issues for the President to be dealing with then Sesame Street. Maybe the President would look better if he debated Big Bird rather than Romney. Maybe the President would have a better chance to beat Big Bird by being rude.

Hey bahrrt - Do you have any idea where the "Etch-a-Sketch" insult originated or are you just vomiting back left-wing slogans that some other idiot fed you? Here are the facts:

Romney's communications director Eric Fehrnstrom referred to the shift from a primary campaign to a presidential campaign by saying "I think you hit a reset button for the fall campaign. Everything changes. It's almost like an Etch-A-Sketch" Of course, Romney's opponents immediately pretended the remark had some significance.

Contrast this with Jeremiah Wright, Obama's pastor and mentor for 20 years saying, “The government lied about inventing the HIV virus as a means of genocide against people of color.”

Intelligent people will recognize that the "etch-sketch" comment is a cute analogy by one of Romney's campaign workers; while saying that AIDS is a means of genocide against Blacks. represents a core belief that Obama himself has absorbed.

PERHAPS PBS can sue Obama for the 15% of their budget that Romney RIGHTFULLY doesn't want to borrow money from the Chinese to pay for? Since Obama seems to be getting much of his on-line financial contributions from China and the Middle East... perhaps these overseas supporters will pay when Obama loses this infringement case also? LOL... is there any wonder why President Bozo lost his legal license?

All of the Big Bird discussions by Obama shows just how out-of-touch this Obozo is with the REAL problems in America! Though, I guess if I had just allowed our Ambassador to be killed because I was too busy partying with Beyonce and Jay Z in Manhattan, flying off to Vegas, and going on The View, perhaps I'd want to distract with Big Bird too? Basically, Obozo is giving THE BIRD to American citizens! Not presidential... and rather pathetic. I wonder if he will be counted among the "official" unemployed in late January? Nah... The sad thing is many of those posting here that see Romney talking to his $50,000 a plate supporters about those 47% on the government dole think he doesn't mean them because they pay a few thousand a year in income taxes.

When Reagan was elected I owned a small oil tool service company with 3 employee's and made a low six figure income which was good money in the early eighties. Reagan's trickle down policy cost me about 5K more in taxes yet lowered the taxes on someone with a seven figure income 350K for every million. When Romney spends more on a haircut than you pay in a year for income taxes you aren't someone he considers one of him. Those paying 50K a plate at fundraisers are.

PS, before calling someone else an idiot or stupid, you probably ought to learn to use spell and grammer checker!

        Ah....the contortions of the left.

        Hilarious.

The Big o'Messiah's campaign is so afraid of the coming VP debate that they are stacking the deck with a pro-Obama moderator. Apparently, the republicans are so sure of Biden's idiocy they must've figured it to be the only way the public would get something worth watching and allowed the choice.

They thought they'd done that with Lehrer but it turns out he cares more about his good name than some intellectual lightweight without a clue. Now, in true narcisstic fashion, Obama can't stop talking about the ass-kicking he received. Of course, he's lying and spinning and blaming everyone else.

Yeah Larry, Obama hits up poor people during all of his campaigning. It's amazing that Sesame Street is owned by 1%'ers (Disney)...

Actually Sesame Street is NOT owned by Disney. When Disney bought the Muppets the Sesame St characters were not part of the deal. Sesame Workshop owns the SS characters. While not on the same level as Disney, Sesame Workshop is still worth a third of a billion so your point largely remains valid.

Everyone notice how Feisty is no longer the first post EVERY time? Also, notice how this happened when one of two things happened: 1) It is no longer MSNBC, but rather NBCnews.com and 2) Comcast bought out NBC.

What has been obvious all this time is coming to light...Feisty was somehow a part of MSNBC and now that has changed, she no longer automatically gets the first post.

With all the toys and stuffed animals that Sesame Street sells, it doesn't need public money. One of those goofy Elmo dolls is like 30 bucks a pop. So what if it is a dollar a year, I think this is a good approach, cut something that isn't going to kill everyone, it's only a dollar but look how many ppl there are in America paying that dollar, do the math folks, it adds up to millions. Start trimming the "wants" first instead of the needs like medicare. There are a million useless programs that depend on gov. money we can cut. There are sooo many after school programs we could cut b/c I have been to them and MAYBE 3 whole kids show up and yet they get thousands a year for rent, electric etc. Cut all these useless programs Obama put into place when we could least afford to do so.

Romney is right the Embassy bombing in Libya has been largely ignored even though the Government knew well over a year that there would be a strike. Today they blamed the Republicans for cutting their funding. They said it is the Republicans fault that the Embassy was bombed. They should have got those people out of there a year ago, but they didn't. Now even the Sesame Street people are against Obama. Hey Obama how about running on some REAL issues.

The war in Afghanistan, the Iraq Abortion, and the tax cuts for the aristocracy is where all the money we are borrowing from China is going. In fact, right now today those tax cuts are costing us more than those wars.

Now, Obama is and continues to use Big Bird in advertisements, Romney made his remark in the debate.

Nice try Obama, use Big Bird to deflect people's attention from the real issues, including all the failed Obama policies that are impossible to hide.

The American public is smarter than the Democrats give us credit for and when they insult our intelligence it shows how out of touch they really are.

Public TV IS supported by the public, but I think it needs ALL it's funding from the public (donations), not subsidized in general by the government.

Some of us don't watch or give a hoot about public tv and we don't want our money put toward that entity.

@wallpaul180, your statement in #4.17 is an absolute bald faced lie, go back and look up the exact quote.

To the others that keep trying to say it is Mitts fault that Obama got punked for being classless: During the debate, Romney stated that discretionary spending needed to be cut and gave PBS as an example, but made the off the cuff comment "but I like Big Bird" and dropped it at that point. He was not attempting to use or abuse any ungranted, legally owned rights to acheive or gain advantage or feign endorsement. He has moved on to other substanative issues. The Obama campaign on the other hand is making a desperate plea for us to "look at them" by not addressing the serious failures of the past 4 years, but by sending puppets to stand outside of RNC offices and/or rallies and by continuing to use the characters when DNC obviously has not ever purchased the rights to do so.

PROBLEM IS, Big Bird and Company want nothing to do with him!!!!!!! Very funny from a typically left leaning company. It should be very telling.

Why don't you get out and look around and find out who big oil's BFF was? It certainly wasn't the President. PBS is a drop in the bucket compared to oil subsidies. I would bet that if both were taken away, PBS would flourish and all of the Executives at Exxon would cry a river big enough to take away the drought problems in Texas!

              Layton,

Yes, the congress has been unresponsive but, remember that the congress is two bodies. The republican held house and the democratically controlled senate. Given the circumstances, I am very happy that neither is getting anything done. Imagine the damage the President would do with any amount of support. The "do nothing" congress are the real hero's right now 'cause it could be a whole lot worse if the left had any momentum. Keep up the good work, House of Representatives.

Silent Service1 .... I know about the two bodies and I actually wish more people understood the government is about three bodies, executive, legislative, and judicial. No President gets to wave a magic fairy wand and have their desires become law. Too many on these boards forget that. So many are only those that can't stand the President. As far as getting things passed in the House and Senate, last I heard, they all got to vote for their own purposes and pork.

              To answer mikehataway ...

              1. Obama has overhauled the food safety system
              2. Advanced women's rights in the work place
              3. Ended Don't Ask, Don't Tell (DADT) in our military
              4. Stopped defending DOMA in court.
              5. Passed the Hate Crimes bill.
              6. Appointed two pro-choice women to the Supreme Court.
              7. Expanded access to medical care and provided subsidies for people who can't afford it.
              8. Expanded the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP)
              9. Fixed the preexisting conditions travesty [and rescissions] in health insurance.
              10. Invested in clean energy.
              11. Overhauled the credit card industry, making it much more consumer-friendly.
              12. While Dodd-Frank bill was weak in many respects, it was still an extremely worthwhile start at re-regulating the financial sector.
              13. He created a Elizabeth Warren's dream agency: The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
              14. He's done a lot for veterans
              15. He got help for people whose health was injured during the clean-up after the 9/11 attacks.

Very light reading short list. I'm sure you'll knock the site ...

Fossil fuel subsidies are $70.2 Billion a year. Year after year after year. That is your tax money going to Billionaires. How do they repay you for your generosity? $5 dollar a gallon gasoline! Doesn't that make you feel special?

PBS is a $121 million non profit and the part of it that is government sponsored is about 0.012% of the budget.

If you republicons are serious about cutting the deficit(and your history says you are not) then you should be going after Big Oil, not Big Bird.

the fact is that Obama did some good. but using a teaspoon to bail out water - after the titanic hit an iceberg - is not going to cut it.

the focus of his admin was a poor choice... don't ask don't tell doesn't create an enviorment for business to generate revenue, generate jobs. look, i'm all for helping those in need, but giving a guy a fish who is hungry, the guy eats one meal... teaching a guy to fish and the guy never goes hungry again. it is all about the big picture, and that is where Obama has trouble, his power to change what is wrong should have been used to bring about prosperity, instead he was working on things that mattered so little.

I love this tired old bromide about how the economy is Bush's fault along with unemployment, ad nauseum. Jan. 2007; the Democratic party gains control of both the House and the Senate. They put Frank and Dodd in charge of the Finance committee where they promptly practice Keynesian economics while simultaneously implementing Cloward and Piven's models of economic takeover, creating the housing bubble. Obama voted for this as a senator. Obama inherited exactly what he helped to create. 'nuff said!

HAS ROMNEY SHOWN ANY LEADERSHIP SINCE REPUBLICONS ANNOUNCED HIM AS THEIR CANDIDATE? HAS HE PUBLICLY INSTRUCTED REPUBS TO PASS ANY BILLS THAT WOULD BE GOOD FOR AMERICA?

ROMNEY HIRED 17 OF 24 ADVISERS FROM BUSH/CHENEY REGIME BECAUSE ROVE TOLD HIM TO! ROMNEY IS ONLY THE STRAWMAN FOR HIS LEADER ROVE WHO WAS INSTRUMENTAL IN LYING INTO IRAQ WAR FOR PROFITS AND WRECKING THE ECONOMY!

Did Romney try and help out the vets when repubs blocked the Vets job bill last week? NOPE!

Did Romney try and help American workers get American jobs back when repubs blocked the bill to remove tax breaks from companies who took jobs overseas? NOPE!

Did Romney try and help American workers get their jobs back when repubs blocked the bill that would give tax breaks to companies who would bring back the jobs to America? NOPE!

Did Romney try and help the first responders to 911 healthcare bill when repubs blocked and voted against that bill? NOPE!

Well hell you can see where this is going....so let's just stop right here. The strawman has shown no leadership whatsoever. NONE! He has done nothing for America but drain jobs away from hard working Americans. He wants to kill Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and the Post Office. Mitt wants to dismantle and sell off America to the highest bidder and run the money offshore to avoid paying taxes.

WHY WOULD WE WANT ROVE/BUSH/CHENEY UNDER STRAWMAN ROMNEY IN THE WHITE HOUSE AGAIN?

Vote President Obama/Biden and Team Democratic party 2012! REAL LEADERS!

Seems Big Bird does not want to be political, good for him!! As for PBS funding, they do have quite a bit of income from product sales and such and can forego federal funding for a time. Yes it is a small amount, but how many of you have had to balance your family budget and decide that small expenses would need to be cut, even tho they did not make a huge difference. There are other small expenses in the federal budget that can also be cut that will add up to a significant difference.

As for the voter fraud discussion, in MD, the True the Vote folks reviewed 1% of the registered voters and found some 15,000 discrepancies. These were reported to the MD Board of Elections for action. Unfortunately, the MD BoE does not have anyone looking for voting fraud or irregularities, so no wonder they don't find them. Highlights were an elderly woman in a nursing home voting by absentee ballot - twice in several elections, who could not remember voting after 2006; two people who had died in 1992 but were able to register to vote in 1998 and have been voting ever since (who says Marylanders ain't tough), then another 15 or so folks, also deceased, voting with residence in the same nursing home as the first elderly woman. This was after looking at just 1% of the registered voters. The topper (not found by True the Vote) was one Wendy Rosen, Democratic candidate for Congress in the MD 1st Congressional district, who voted in both Maryland AND Florida since 2006. One would think she would know such an act is illegal, but then, she is a Democrat. Personally, I think a photo ID at the polling station is reasonable, and not a burden, since all States requiring them will give a photo ID at the DMV at NO COST to the individual. Voter ID is NOT a form of voter suppression, it is a PROTECTION of our right as citizens, and ONLY citizens, to vote.

How much did Exxon make and how much did they get in republican "freebies?"

All of the "freebies" the oil companies get are in the form of tax credits and tax rebates. And yet the oil companies pay an effective Federal income tax rate of between 42-48%, well above the US corporate rate of 35%. So where exactly are these so-called "freebies"????

                Christian Republicans:
These Republicans are hypocrites. They do everything in the name of Christ, while simultaneously acting as un-Christlike as humanly possible. They support the right to carry assault weapons, are pro-war, and completely ignore the fact that the Bible depicts Christ as a Liberal who was opposed to capitalism and violence. They sincerely believe that this is God’s country and that God loves us more than anyone else in the world. They think that anyone that is not 100% pro-Israel is anti-semitic. They hate everyone that doesn’t agree with them and think the Bible tells them to, and they hate Gay people because they think they are sinners.

Fox News and Conservative Talk Radio Republicans:
These are one of the angriest groups of Republicans. They watch Fox News or listen to Conservative Talk Radio and they think it makes them an expert on politics. The only knowledge they have of politics is parroted talking points without any facts to back them up. When you defeat them in debate they will resort to calling you names like “Liberal,” “commie,” “socialist” or “baby-killer” etc. They think all liberals are socialists that want to take their money and give it to people who don’t deserve it

                Tea Party Republicans:
These Republicans are a dumbed-down combination of the previous 2 groups of Republicans. They think Sarah Palin is intelligent and it’s the media filter’s fault that she looks so stupid. They think Reagan was fiscally Conservative even though he tripled the deficit. They watch Fox News religiously, and think Glenn Beck is credible. They don’t understand why people think they’re racist while they’re standing next to people holding racist signs. They protest higher taxes even though taxes have gone down for 95% of working families.

                The Educated Republicans:
These are the rarest of all Republicans. Occasionally you will run into one in public, or in a public-forum online. These Republicans are the smartest of the Republican idiots. They have learned everything there is to know about their position, from a Republican perspective. They’ve educated themselves on all the reasons why their position is correct.

                Extremely Idiotic Republicans:
These Republicans are Republicans because they think it’s cool. They have a Republican in one of the other groups listed, so they think they know what they’re talking about. They have terrible spelling and grammar but they expect you to believe whatever they say because they are saying it to you. It’s hard to tell if they ever made it past the 4th grade. Most of their posts are illegible. They don’t know anything about their position other than what they have heard their friends say. They think that Republicans are fiscally conservative because they say that they are, and call anyone that doesn’t agree with them sheep. They ignore all historical information that is contradictory to what they say. They are 100% blind to facts.

                Birther Republicans:
The birthers think that Obama was born in Kenya. No matter how much evidence you present them with that is contradictory to that, they will continue to insist that he is not the legitimate President. They are sore-losers because McCain lost the election, and they will never support Obama, even if he paid off the entire National Debt.

                Racist Republicans:

Racist Republicans hate Obama because he’s black. They think that all Muslims are terrorists. They think Obama is a terrorist Muslim. They think anyone with a name like Obama’s is a terrorist. They’re racist, but they think Obama is a racist. They can’t understand why people call them racists when they post racist pictures or racist comments and then claim not to be racist. Whenever they possibly can they will call you a racist, to hide the fact that they are actually racists.

Great Post Chad! The code of the GOPer Christian Taliban:

                1. They want America as an Evangelical Christian Theocracy.
                2. The earth is 6000 years old, Jesus and men rode dinosaurs don't you know.
                3. Unequal rights for anyone who is LGBT.
                4. Old white men will make health decisions for all women. Contraceptive Nazis, no birth control for you!
                5. Zygotes have more rights than the women who carry them.
                6. Once the children are born however, they can fend for themselves and damn them if they are dependent on the government for food and housing.
                7. Privatize all government responsibilities, that way Myth and his cronies can profit off of it.
                8. Remove all environmental protections. Profits for the Koch suckers is more important than clean water or uncontaminated food for the 47%.

Romney deliberately threatened the moderator which deliberately caused the moderator to not challenge Romney during the debate. It is why the moderator, Jim, did not persue Romney's non answer of his plans. The ONLY budget plan announced was getting rid of Big Bird.......A few weeks away and ROMNEY LIED ALL NIGHT DURING THE DEBATE BECOMING THE THIRD PARTY CANDIDATE!

Before the debate Romney was on both side of the issue on EVERY issue, the night of the debate he was not on either side of the issues, he denied he was Romney!

                Chad,

It is your party that basically calls all Christians stupid, idiots, and rejected God in their party platform until President Obama realized the mistake. Just saying you can't defend something like a deeply held belief and pass it off as a joke. The joke is the majority of the country is still considered religious since only 1 in 5 agree with your statement about God or religion. Those 1 in 5 are mostly liberal or progressive Democrats according to research yesterday on MSNBC. You take great pains to paint with a broad brush all people who reject your message and beliefs. If you pay attention to the research you just rejected the belief of 4 out of 5 Americans...this is not a way to win friends and influence people.

By the way Jesus was not a liberal, democrat, republican, conservative...he was and is the Son of God and is totally other centered. He came to tell us the "truth" about God through his life and teachings. As such it is sad to see you slam someone who came with the offering of true freedom and truth. Someone who would risk all for a friendship with you and welcome you into His presence...unless you reject Him. The truth is He is about unselfishness, love, acceptance, and He will meet you where ever you are in life but will not leave you there...He will draw you to Himself for healing and new life. Christians are not God...we are just flawed humans seeking healing and forgiveness...it is a shame our mistakes make Jesus and God look bad. But He love us and you regardless. Slamming His people is expected and a fulfillment of what Jesus meant when He said if they kill me they will harm and kill you as my followers as well. No matter how you malign Christians we will not call for burning you home or attempt to take your life...we will pray that you have a real encounter with Jesus and recognize him for who He truly is.

Just saying God and politics are completely separate issues and you should know better. That said it does not allow Christians to legislate morality or belief to you against your will. God's kingdom is about freedom of choice " choose you this day whom you will serve" and "come let us reason together" are not a prescription for force against ones will.

Layton and RedDev, you proved that you are at war with women, but will be the first to claim otherwise. Hypocrite much do you?

The people posting against Ms Dash are some of the most racist known, and by most of their own post they are people of color, which makes their post all the most pathetic.

Well that makes Obama a 1%er with a worth of over $10 million and explains why he pushed for and got the Bust tax cuts to the rich extended in 2010 rather then implement his tax reform.

What it doesn't explain is why Obama got on national TV and told the nation he should be paying higher tax and would be if he could get his tax reform implemented.

He sure makes Obama supporters who think and say he wants to pay more taxes look like a fools, doesn't he. But in the 3.75 years he's been president, we've come to expect that from him. He's always making his supporters look like fools.

Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, and Stephen King, the horror writer, are all on record as wanting taxes raised on people in their income bracket. Obama also wants his taxes raised.

Here is what a college professor has to say about taxes and paying your fair share.

Do the well-off pay their fair share, or do they also deserve a tax break?

Well, let’s start with the ultra-rich. Bajillionaire Warren Buffett has argued that he isn’t being asked to pay his share. He went around his office, asking people what share of their income they pay in income taxes. Buffett’s 17.7 percent tax rate compared a bit too favorably with the 30 percent tax rate paid by his secretary.

So it appears that the tax system favors the super-rich over working stiffs.

What about those of us who are merely among the well-off, and not in the Buffett-stratosphere?

Now, I’m no Warren Buffett (believe me!), but I’ve just finished figuring out my federal taxes for the year. I live comfortably (one of the virtues of teaching in a business school), but was dismayed to learn that my federal taxes for 2007 amount to only 16 percent of my income.

This strikes me as astonishingly low. And it’s not like I have a fancy approach to tax minimization; I just write off a bunch of business-related expenses, and benefit enormously from deductions for mortgage interest and charitable giving. Obviously city and state taxes drive my total tax bill up a bit further, as do payroll taxes, although I plan on getting some of that back as social security in my old age.

But the point remains: I had never quite realized that the Warren Buffett problem extends far enough down the income distribution that even folks like myself aren’t paying their fair share.

So I repeated Warren Buffett’s experiment here at Wharton. And it appears that I’m paying lower taxes than the administrative staff in my department. And if it is true here, I suspect the same goes equally for most folks in the top 10 percent of income earners. (Incidentally, according to Piketty and Saez, around half of all income in the U.S. goes to those of us in the top decile — roughly anyone with a family income of six figures or more.)

Warren Buffett’s approach to casual empiricism is quite instructive. He just took a survey around the office of people’s average tax rates, finding that he paid the lowest share. Here’s a thought:

Why not run a similar survey in your own office, or among your circle of friends? It will be interesting to learn the extent to which Warren Buffett’s findings generalize.

As Obama said on August 28, 2008 in his acceptance speech – “If you don't have a record to run on, then you paint your opponent as someone people should run from. You make a big election about small things. “ That’s exactly what Obama is doing now. He has no record to run on, so he’s making it about small, inconsequential things.

"If these idiots get the chance to cheat in the voting by letting illegals and other criminals vote because they want to eliminate ID's, they will try it!" This is a lie, google the Brennen Center study. And Pennsylvania admitted in legal documents that their efforts to require voter ID was NOT related to voter ID fraud.

"The lying suck up liberal media is also a bunch of scum bags who should be banned from reporting news to the American people!" Pretty durn sad when you are deliberately advocating the violation of the First Amendment of our Constitution. Oh, and remember that it was FOX news that won their court case in Florida when they argued that they had the right to lie as part of free speech.

Of all the comments, only two things are clear. First, everyone here knows who they are gonna vote for and nothing will change their mind. Second, Rick Colo represents everything that is wrong with this country. I am so very glad that he has only one vote and can use it only once every four years. His family and friends are not so lucky.

You probably should go look at post 6 and 6.13 before you keep going on and on about liberal self-righteousness. Not saying either is for sure right, but if you claim one if wrong, you have to claim both are wrong..

Flip-flop, flip-flop who is the best flip-floper of them all? When you Obama supporters can name a better Romney flip-flop then this Obama flip-flop then you can run your mouths off. Until then stop showing you're addle-brained.

Notice how Obama uses the "Debt" word and explains the perils it has on our economy and our nation.

The fact that we are here today to debate raising America's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can't pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government's reckless fiscal policies.

And the cost of our debt is one of the fastest growing expenses in the Federal budget. This rising debt is a hidden domestic enemy, robbing our cities and States of critical investments in infrastructure like bridges, ports, and levees; robbing our families and our children of critical investments in education and health care reform; robbing our seniors of the retirement and health security they have counted on.

Every dollar we pay in interest is a dollar that is not going to investment in America's priorities. Instead, interest payments are a significant tax on all Americans–a debt tax that Washington doesn't want to talk about. If Washington were serious about honest tax relief in this country, we would see an effort to reduce our national debt by returning to responsible fiscal policies.

Increasing America's debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that "the buck stops here. Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.

I therefore intend to oppose the effort to increase America's debt limit.

Sen. Barack Hussein Obama, Jr., (Senate – March 16, 2006)

Some folks just don't do irony. Singling out funding for Big Bird, and the other recent kerfuffle forcing Catholic institutions to pay for birthcontrol/abortions, are examples. The irony is that most of us don’t give a hoot about PBS funding … we give a hoot about America going broke. Most of us know birth control is generally accepted, but we get kind of testy when we see the First Amendment ignored. Wouldn’t it be ironic if breaking the rules that gave us America destroyed America? Oh, I forgot, some folks don’t do irony.

It's the biggest part of our spending and our country spends more than the 17 nations below us COMBINED! Have a little chit chat with your Congressman about the PORK that he/she is supporting. Subsidies for oil, advertising, McDonalds???? HELLO! PBS actually does some good for this country and doesn't line the pockets of executives.

The joke is that with the Trillions of dollars of debt we are Mitt's Big deficit easing move was to stop funding PBS! A move that will save us what? While still advocating a 20% tax cut across the board, yes he said that he wouldn't approve any tax cut that would increase the deficit, as a businessman of his stature please tell us specifically how do you make a 20% tax cut work? Cutting PBS really hardly amounts to anything.

what is a joke is that the list includes some of BHO's biggest donors!

UCG, it is called discretionary spending, and was an example. If you followed along, you would see that they (while not for profit) stay NFP by spending rather large amounts on some salaries and equipment annually, also called spend-down. They whole point that Romney made was that they were an example of a company that could lose funding and survive, maybe even thrive while freeing up cash to help with American debts. Problem is, O took the opportunity to jump all over it and make a big deal of a small example, then got bit@# slapped for it.

Next Mr. Rodgers is going to teach the meaning of the word hypocrite!

Oh, I see. So now you have to belittle yourselves to name calling because you got called on your bull@!$%#. Then you backtrack and say that the CEO doesn't make enough compared to other CEOs because it doesn't fit your left wing bull@!$%#. Try looking at the difference between how much Sesame Street brings in vs. how much Exxon brings in and compare them that way instead of comparing apples and oranges, as you say. I guess making almost 1 million in a year doesn't matter. He isn't part of the 1% you bitch about constantly because it isn't convenient for your agenda. Got it.

I said nothing of other CEOs, I said nothing of any other major companies, and I said nothing about supporting Bush, which I never did. I also never said anything about gas prices as it does not pertain to anything spoken of that is relevant on this thread. Nice try. Keep deflecting to distract from the fact that you just got shut down on yet another pile of partisan garbage you vomited up. Class dismissed.

Discresionary spending? What was this going to amount to in driving the debt down to, even if the government pitches in 8% to Sesame St., super intelligent person? Hmmmm?

About $130 million vs. 1.1T Fed deficit? Really? Discresionary spending?

Obama did the right thing, despite PBS not liking it. Exposing Mitt for the ridiculous policies he has.

Yet another asinine business and government are the same thing. Do folks ever educate themselves on the difference? Business is not a democracy, nor is government capitalistic.

Actually, in Robme's case it was strip the company clean and run before it collapsed.

That is what he did to Georgetown Steel. He cleaned out $44 Million from their employee pension plan knowing full well that we taxpayers would pay it all back.

A lot of other CEO's would also have a look at income streams, not just accounts payable. Remember when the banks were bailed out in 2008 and their top execs got huge bonuses even when the businesses they were running failed? Romney would cut spending but he would extend tax cuts to the wealthiest Americans and pass the tax burden on to the average earner. Can you not see how thinking like a CEO converts to acting like a CEO? Reducing the deficit is absolutely necessary. But a "fiscal" budget requires additional revenues in addition to reduced spending. You, the tax payer, are being asked to "bail out" the CEO's again . Only this time, they are called the 1%.

Fool me once, shame on me. Fool me twice, shame on us.

Obama should just resign and take that spot on "The View" while their offer still stands. Romney absolutely destroys him in the debate, and now Big Bird B slaps him. Wow, if he can't come close to handling Romney, and Big Bird is showing how inept he is, it's time to shut it down and start hosting in the morning.

Don't you like how the Obama supporters have selective memories. OH my, how they've forgotten the numerous times it was reported that Obama's approval rating was the worst that any president has ever gotten. It happened with every leadership failure over and over again.

Independents, Republicans, democrats and even people who aren't registered to vote all told this nation their disapproval of Obama's leadership.

With all the political whoring Obama been doing, you would have to be delusional to think its gotten better.

If they have even 1/2 of a functioning brain they will. I love the way Obama has created our great class warfare by pitting his demonized 1%ers against the rest of the country that somehow all fit into he other 99%. Do any of you liberals know someone in the 99% group. I mean the homeless, crackhead who lives under you overpasses is a 99%er just like a college educated person that can't find a job and is making $40,000 annually in a career he did not go to school for. It's amazing there is 1%, then all the rest. Are you liberals that stupid, or am I missing something here.

The Obama campagn should let the PBS thing drop. It was a nice one-liner for a day or two, but a dumb ad strategy. There are much meatier issues to focus TV ad time and money on. They won't get any traction on the Big Bird thing; it's a shallow issue, no weight behind the punch. Mitt's policies, policy filp-flops, and even his taxes (still) are bigger and better targets. Reach out to the adults, not the kids.

Get rid of all the institutions as well as social security and medicare that are for the people (paid for by the people in payroll taxes) so the rich can get richer with big tax breaks because that is where the people's tax money is going. By the way, for you farmer's out there, did you enjoy the big corn price under Obama because you were hurting pretty bad under Bush? Romney is another Bush policy man and we will have war and high taxes all benefiting the wealthy and taken from the midddle class.

I agree. It WAS Romney who brought up Big Bird to begin with and it shows his shallowness and his inability to state other cuts he would make, but the general public (and obviously Republicans) won't get it.

Romney merely brought up PBS and "Big Bird" as an example of "UNNECESSARY" government spending. Only the shallow Obama leg-humpers don't get it.

                                Debbi Chicagoland-

I feel bad for you. Being unable to actually decipher this on your own and relying on others to create opinions for you. Must be a liberal thing.

You liberals keep saying Romney won't talk about his tax cuts, but when has Obama? Obama doesn't even have a plan to reduce the deficit. His plan is to increase spending and increase taxes.

Not sure why its so hard to grasp. Don't vote for Obama because of the biased media out there. Same goes for Romney and foxnews.

You live in Chicago and still continue to defend a President who has done NOTHING for your city. Tell me, what does that say about you?

And the beating goes on. Even the left media has it a close race now. We know better. I can't wait for a Romney Victory and stop posting here.
Good night to all have to get up early and go to work, unlike some of the Free Stuff lefties in FR. layton, seekinginsanity, the Chicago Criminals, etc. etc. etc.

Tomorrow Hillary Clinton get grilled. Big surprise.

My personal favoite is Fox News. Who'd have thought that you could use an ESPN format to publish the National Inquirer in broadcast media and get away with it.

I have to admit the left don't like fox news..

As usual, Fox News Channel was the top cable news outlet for the month. By a very big margin I might add. If everyone watching Fox is supporting Romney ( according to the left ) Obama is done.

I liked their honesty about what was really happening in the Middle East most importantly Libya. BBC is also on top of things.

Yes the lies from Obama's administration's bumbling of the Libya situation are slowly coming out.

The last statement you made shows us you are definitely a misguided Fox follower, Jane?Doe. People like dirty laundry more than actual intelligent, unbiased news.

Stick to BBC, and whatever other news outlet, other than Fox if you really want the truth.
