As the presidential election reaches its apex in intensity, so have arguments from the right that polls and economic statistics -- the numbers used to explain the 2012 campaign -- are not to be trusted.
The theory that many polls are under-sampling Republicans (and thus overstating the support for Obama) has become widespread on the right, as many supporters of Mitt Romney asserted this week during rallies before the first presidential debate.
A recent suggestion by Jack Welch that the most-recent U.S. jobs report is a bit suspicious has ignited a media firestorm. NBC's Mike Viqueira reports.
“I’d prefer him to be higher in the polls, but I think a lot of conservatives just aren’t being polled,” said Cathy Barnes, a Romney voter from southeast Denver who attended the Republican nominee’s rally last Monday near Aurora.
“I don’t believe what they polls are saying, they’ve clearly been Democratic-skewed,” said Daniel Zustek, a health care worker from Denver, at the same rally. “If you look at the numbers – such as Ohio -- they’ve lost a lot of Democratic voter registration in the city of Cleveland, which isn’t stuff that’s really examined when they’re running these polls.”
“Push comes to shove, I think he’s ahead. I don’t think the Democratic turnout will be as high as it was four years ago,” Zustek added of Romney’s chances.

“I think the media likes to slant what the Romneys do. Just because the media says something doesn’t make it fact,” said Rosabel Herrington of Romney’s disadvantage among women voters in most polls before a “Women for Mitt” event Tuesday in Littleton.
The argument is based largely on the notion that pollsters are using a turnout model that most closely resembles the 2008 election, when turnout was inordinately high and Democrats outpaced Republicans. Conservatives argue that these samples should more closely match the 2004 election (when Republican turnout was inordinately high), or, if nothing else, include more Republicans.
Bolstering that argument have been surveys issued by pollster Scott Rasmussen, which have typically shown a tighter matchup between Romney and Obama both nationally and in many swing states. (One reason for this is because the automated polls used by Rasmussen and other outfits -- which NBC News don't report on -- are barred by law from contacting voters whose sole phone line is cellular. These voters are typically understood to skew younger and toward minorities, and thus, more Democratic.)
Former Colorado Gov. Bill Owens (R) echoed this sentiment when firing up a crowd at a Romney rally Monday in Denver.
"As you know, this race is close, and it's going to get closer. Sunday's Rasmussen poll showed that 43 percent of voters say they are certain to vote for Mitt Romney, and 42 percent are certain to vote for President Obama," he said. "But as you know, the undecideds typically swing towards the challenger. And in Colorado, poll after poll has showed that our state is virtually tied."
Obama led Romney, 50 to 45 percent, in the most recent NBC News-Wall Street Journal-Marist poll of Colorado’s likely voters. And in the running tally of polls conducted by the website Real Clear Politics, which includes automated polls with varying party affiliations, Romney leads only in one: Rasmussen’s.
Recommended: Obama accuses Romney of shifting positions
And the Republican presidential nominee himself has invoked Rasmussen's polls to argue the race is much tighter than other polls had suggested.
"Actually the national polls, Rasmussen and Gallup have it a tied race," Romney told NBC's Ron Allen in an interview two weeks ago.
Since then, public opinion polls have shown the national tightening to a degree, and the impact of Romney's strong debate performance last Wednesday isn't fully reflected yet in polls.
The mounting criticism of polls mirrors what some Sen. John Kerry's supporters said about the Democrats' polling performance versus George W. Bush in 2004. But it also serves an unintended benefit for Romney in that Republicans might feel more engaged and active in backing the Republican ticket if they don't perceive it to be trailing Obama so badly.
A similar phenomenon emerged on Friday when conservatives expressed open skepticism of new monthly employment figures issued by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, which showed that the economy added 114,000 new jobs in September, and that the unemployment rate had dropped from 8.1 percent in August to 7.8 percent last month.
Jack Welch, the former CEO of General Electric (the former parent company of NBC News), set off a firestorm by insinuating that the administration manipulated the jobs numbers because they were so incredible.
“I have no evidence to prove that. I just raised the question,” Welch explained later in the day on MSNBC.
Welch also declined to retract his assertion: “I don’t want to take back one word in that tweet. … It just defies the imagination to have a surge larger than any other surge since 1983 a month before the election.”
Other political figures weighed in to support Welch’s assertion. Rush Limbaugh expressed skepticism toward the numbers on his show, and one member of Congress encouraged doubt of the official job statistics, too.
"I agree with former GE CEO Jack Welch, Chicago style politics is at work here. Somehow by manipulation of data we are all of a sudden below 8 percent unemployment, a month from the Presidential election," Florida Rep. Allen West (R) wrote on his Facebook page. "Trust the Obama administration? Sure, and the spontaneous reaction to a video caused the death of our Ambassador ... and pigs fly."
But that notion was startling to several other conservatives. Tony Fratto, a former spokesman in President George W. Bush's White House, called the allegation of labor data manipulation "dumb conspiracy theories" on his Twitter page.
And Douglas Holtz-Eakin, a Republican economist who formerly served as director of the Congressional Budget Office, strongly disputed the idea that Obama would manipulate September's report.
"These numbers put together by the BLS or BEA, they're all done by career civil servants who are experts in the area with complete integrity," he said. "If someone tried to do that -- if I, during my time in the Bush administration, had gone to the BLS and said, 'Juice these numbers,' they would have called the Washington Post so fast. That's just not acceptable; it's not how the process works."
Besides, Holtz-Eakin argued, Republicans have plenty to criticize in this jobs report. He argued that the drop in the jobless rate could be an aberration based on an unusually high number of households to report employment in this month's survey.
"We still have a labor force participation rate that's down at 1981 levels, and we still have an unemployment rate that's not a cause for celebration either," he said.
For those conspiracy theorists, read the posting from Boston Herald, and this newspaper is not a supporter of Obama.

I hope these right wing idiots stop this non-sense.
All the "news" in the world can't change the fact that Obama was a stumbling, mumbling, stuttering, clueless disaster during the debate!!
All the "news" in the world can't change the fact that Romney changes his positions daily and told more lies during the debate than Heinz has pickles.
This is desperation by Republicans who want to believe what they want to believe despite data to the contrary.
HopeisGone, I am sure you are not one of those 1% and probably either part of 47% or the other 52%. If you keep believing in Romney (who keeps saying one thing for his donors and fellow tea party fans and another story to the rest of the population) and Paul Ryan, your HOPE WILL BE TOTALLY GONE. You can book a one way ticket to Haiti and perhaps live a better life there come November 6th.
@HopeisGone...yeah, that's why the President is still ahead in the polls. He stuck to the facts...Romney flipflopped and hit just about everything from A-Z trying to kiss butt of the undecided. Now we're hearing Romney had notes, during the debate and that was against the rules. Of course, I'm sure you'll say that's not true...lmao
Oh, I almost forgot Romney now says he misspoke about the 47% and he was wrong...what a crock of sh*t that is.
I believe the numbers. In Obamaville, part time jobs required to make ends meet following 99 weeks of unemployment benefits that ran out in large numbers this past summer have pushed many to consider jobs they didn't care for earlier in the year. No, it's not funny, but I fear there is much truth in what I'm saying. If a flood of part time jobs (that will end in a few months especially if Obama returns for round 2) being accepted by desperate Americans makes you feel good then I'm happy for you.
In the alternate reality that is the Republican Party facts and truth have less value than religious belief and ideology. They prefer to make up their own reality than to live in the "real" reality.
It is pathetic but they are just fooling themselves. Perhaps by pretending everything is a "liberal conspiracy" they can convince some low-information voters that they are right but in the end they are just burying their heads in the sand and will have to live with reality when the election comes. They also demonstrate to rational voters that they are not sane.
I think their denial of reality only reinforces the image of an out-of-touch, religious and ideological party of the Dark Ages. In the modern Information Age I doubt they can maintain a party of ignorance and denial into the future and they face demographic as well as ideological forces aligned against them.
The Party of No cannot exist in its current form for long and I think it's clear that in 2016 and 2020 it is going to be very difficult for Republicans to compete. They can't win being the party of the 16th century.
Part time jobs is what they are doing in Texas, thanks to Perry.
The saying in Texas is, "Yeah, I have a job. Three of them".
Now, about this idiot, Jack Welch, ex-CEO of GE. I am reposting this.
Yesterday, I watched the video in CNBC in which the GE icon, Jack Welch bitching and moaning that "these Chicago guys could create jobs and so, they change the numbers". When Jack was the CEO of GE for 20+ years, he was the America's #1 "Outsourcer-in-Chief" and according to one estimate, shipped over 100,000 well paying design, engineering, and manufacturing jobs to India and China. He wrote the manuscript for his fellow CEOs on how to ship American jobs abroad. He was also the CEO of the CEOs who wrote the book on how to stack the Corporate Board with Cronies and on how pay themselves (and his fellow executives) outlandish compensation at the expense of Shareholders and Employees.
This fellow now talks about creating jobs in America. It's so funny that every one Romney's supporters (all his Wall Street gangstas and corporate goons) now believe they have a better plan to create jobs (jobs paying less than minimum wage for the most part) in this country. On the contrary, the republican benefactors' actions and proposals all involve tax cuts for the corporations, tax cuts for the rich, gutting Obama's clean energy goals, denying equal pay for equal work for women, etc. and they are contradictory to what they say to the public.
I wouldn't trust anything these wall street gansta brothers of Romney have to say. Voting for Romney is a vote for America to go back to Stone Age and live a Neanderthal-like life.
I especially love that "he has no evidence" but makes his assertion anyway.
Pure desperation on the part of Republicans.
That's odd, what I saw was shock and surprise that Obama's opponent wasn't Mitt Romney. The amount of lies told by Manchurian-Romney during the debate also had me stupified. What amazes me most is that hope is so far gone for the right-wingers, they will stand behind the mountain of lies. As Santorum said, they aren't the smartest party - they will believe anything spoon fed to them by the candidate they dislike and distrust - aka, Mr. Romney.
It is abundantly clear for all to see that Republicans want America to fail and refuse to accept that America is recovering. Republicans insist America is in decline despite the evidence to the contrary. I thought they believed in American Exceptionalism? NO, that's a lie. They are theocratic oligarchs and only interested in amassing wealth and power over others.
In other words Republicans have become fervently anti-American.
Former director of the CBO Douglas Holtz-Eakin might be surprised to find out that -- regardless of the party affiliation of the President in power -- while barely 35% of the monthly changes in unemployment between August and September in non-election years from 1944 until 2012 have shown the rate to go down (compared to 45% going up), in election years that rate is shown to go down a whopping 70% of the time while going up only 12% of the time. Somehow the unemployment rate is "magically" twice as likely to go down in an election year than any other non-election year.
Independent my butt.
The right wing idiots have nothing else to hold on to .
When Romney was celebrating his widely praised lying on the debate, unemployment dropped to it's lowest level since "W" left office. Romney was up set by the good news, the TeaReTarded Republicans in congress said , how can this be happening when we did everything in the book to destroy jobs !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's interesting that earlier, when the polls gave Rombot a slight edge, then polling was the most
pristine prescience ever to grace the modern media world and the President was going DOWN.
Now that the polls are showing the opposite, it's another Kenyan, Muslim, socialist, anti-colonialist,
angry, Saul Alinsky, new world order, welfare driven, food stamp based, conspiratorial plot to destroy
America.
And the earth is 9,000 years old. It would be funny if it wasn't so tragic.
The President rules, Rombot...what do they let Mormons do? Politely slobber, genteelly foam in a
hysterical paroxysym? Well, it's certainly not winning.
That would be from your nasty dimwitty-Smitty attitude, but don't let that hold back your from your delusions. Speaking of delusions, what you are saying is that the unemployment numbers have been faulty since they started tracking the numbers. If you say so - but I hope you will forgive the rest of us not buying into your conspiracy theory. No doubt, you lambasted these numbers when they were produced under Reagan, Bush I and Bush II, or is that too hard for you to swallow.
The truth is that unemployment statistics are mostly based on unemployment claims. Every payment is a claim. Those benefits are running out for Americans, but they still don't have a job, and most who are back to work are making about 30% less.
The truth is also that new business start ups are at a 30 year low.
Yes the polls are suspect when I see blacks calling for Barack Obamas impeachment in front of my local post office, and nearly 90% of people talking about politics wherever I go want Obama gone.
A lot of them wanted Ron Paul, but they all seem to agree on one thing, Barack Obama is screwing up this country !
That's not true. He clearly stated that it was since 1980.
suspicion?
Why? OK, I got it.
..
When the 1% are doing well, Republicans are absolutely certain and happy.
..
When the 47% are doing well, GOP doesn't like it, starting to have suspicion?
...
....because we are also absolutely certain that Mitt doesn't care about the 47%.
Exactly, Republicans did everything possible over the last several years to crash the economy and they just can't accept that they failed in their mission. What?, they say... we obstructed every jobs bill and fired hundreds of thousands of "government workers" how can there be any new jobs!!
They really have painted themselves into a corner and have no choice at this point but to insist the economy and America is in decline. The ONLY reason they have come up with to vote for them is because the economy is in ruins and if they lose that selling point they will lose in a landslide.
We don't want America to fail. We worry that people like you (and the media) will believe without question that when 114,000 jobs are created, nearly a million people are put to work. Apparently we are rightfully worried, because that is what you and the media seem to be believing. We worry that what you'll do is take these extremely suspect numbers and tell people, "Look, everything's alright" when it's not.
No other number supports this. The recent Q2 GDP revision supports the anemic 114,000 jobs created, not the near million people put back to work. ADP's September survey was much, much closer to the 114,000 jobs created than the nearl million. Factory order number supports the anemic 114,000 jobs created, not the near million people put back to work. This economy is in a shambles and fake numbers won't fix that. What fake numbers will do is spread as feeling of complacency that is unfounded in reality and that is necessarily bad for America.
Despite Republican obstruction, the economy has grown each and every quarter under Obama.
Why return to the "trickle down" economic policies that got us here.
Romney is calling on the 47% for Votes, Mitt says he's a new man today and cares about the 1%, "OOPS" sorry about that, Mitt says he's a new man today and cares about the 100% !!!!!!!!!!
Uh huh, and Obama won the debate. Interesting that after such a smackdown the employment numbers 'suddenly' and magically appear better. Also interesting how, an 'energized' Obama starts making speeches to a crowd of supporters, calling Romney names (can't handle face to face so, like a typical coward, he makes taunts behind a podium and a teleprompter) and of course, his sychophantic supporters will be out in force, making excuses (bad Lehrerer, Romney a 'bully' and whatever else they can come up with in a vain attempt to make their hero more than the empty suit he really is) and the reason Obama lost is because, in truth, he has no record to stand on, can't support his policies and was too lazy or unconcerned to actually prepare for a national, televised debate.
You all can jump on whatever it takes to make your candidate look good, however, it's gonna take some real effort to do so.
Are you listening to yourself? You're validating my point. Texas is surviving Obamaville better then most states and according to you, part time jobs are all that is available in Texas. So am I to understand that part time jobs is where we have came to accept as great?
This is the problem. We have been so beaten down for so long, we have forgotten where we could be or where we were, and have came to view the current situation as normal and acceptable (the new "norm"). Very sad to witness this transformation of so many Americans for the sake of promoting liberalism and their failed POTUS.
Republicans are experts in such lies, these GOP liars are suspicious of acts of others too - that's exactly a trap the RepubliCONs put themselves in.
Clinton mentioned how Republicans (1981 - 1993 Reagan and Bush) routinely and deliberately overstated revenues and understated spending, so that the incoming Democratic administration would not be able to fulfil their campaign promises of tax cuts - that's exactly what happened to Clinton who promised tax cut for the middle class, but was shocked to learn about the distorted lies of 3 GOP presidential terms that had hidden the nation's fiscal reality. Basically that's why Clinton had to renege on his campaign promise to cut taxes and instead launched a tax increase tht GOP cried as broken campaign promise. The real culprit was GOP lies about nation's fiscal reality
smitty, you're just making crap up to fit your little right brain. The fact is that the numbers are revised every month as additional data not available at the first survey are incorporated into the estimate in order to make the estimate more accurate. they are using the exact same process that they used during the Bush admin. How many times did you question those numbers?
Mike in SA, Go back to your cave dug by the gestapo wing of the tea party.
Really? Then, what was the reason for all the Republican Congressional leaders including Newt the Nut, to meet in a Hotel in DC on the evening of Jan 20, 2009, hours after Obama was inaugurated, and they agreed that there should be total non-cooperation with Obama with anything that would help Americans dig out the mess Bush43 created? Vowed to make Obama an one-term President, even if it means American family would have no food in their tables!
American economy is in bad shape because of Bush43's policies (two tax cuts to the wealthy, 2 unfunded and unwanted wars, unfunded prescription benefits program of 2004, and on and on). If not for the actions that Obama and his economic team took in the early part of 2009 and 2010, we would be having 15% real unemployment and riots in the street. You and your tea party idiots can't understand that.
Hard core Republicans would believe that Romney is the second coming of Jesus Christ and Obama is the devil in disguise. The Republican leadership spoon feeds them such slop constantly. Hard to tell exactly what's in that slop, but it must contain crushed "stupid pills" or "Zombie powder".
Jack Welch has never met a Republican leader in power that he could not buy. He prefers to keep it that way.
Looks like BIG BIRD did a dump on Romney's head for the "BIG Bang" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hoover was responsible for the Great Depression and My grand parents called those shantytowns Hoovervilles.
Bush is responsible for the Great Recession and people around here are calling their shantytowns Bushvilles.
If Republicans truly cared about those that were hurt by the Economic melt-down they would have cheered any improvement in the numbers, no matter how slight, and worked with the President to repair the economic damage.
Instead, they've pledged to do everything they can to diminish the duly elected President and make it their number one priority for the last four years to make sure he isn't reelected. Just who are they working for? It sure isn't the American public. I think it's time to let ALL elected officials (and both parties) know that they work for us (That would be the true majority, not just those with the most power and money).
Hope-Is-Gone
You are either a full or an half idiot........................
Please forgive me, but I'm permanently putting you on "ignore"
Only if you don't count the rise of food prices and fuel as part of inflation. If you do, like most reasonable people, count those as part of inflation, GDP growth is in negative territory.
You don't cheer manipulation of numbers for political gain. 114,000 added to the rolls and somehow, magically, that drops the unemployment to 7.8% and right before an election. How convenient, and more convenient, there won't be any new numbers or revised numbers out until a few days before the election, not saying the numbers are cooked, nah, Solis wouldn't do that stuff for her boss, now would she?
Hey Paul, the Tea GOP ReTards are out to destroy our Country for power, this Tea was going bad the day they got into office !!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
If you don't like the results, just attack! The GOP is completely without morality; lying, hypocrisy and denial are their main weapons. Global warming? Just lying scintists, human evolution? Just an anti-christian plot. Ancient age of the world? Our proof is in the bible! Don't like the poll numbers-must be a plot. Unemployment numbers down- must be another conspiracy. This is a chance for you GOP koolade drinkers to make a killing betting on Romney at 3-1. Put your money where your mouth is. Or better yet, read some science books.
Of course, it's a lie, if you are from Planet Kolob in your magic diaper (or underwear). It all depends on where you are.
If you are fully engaged in reality of Planet Earth, truth is always truth, such as this job growth data.
Why does the GOP root against America?
First of all, the polls are, in fact, over sampling democrats- some, wildly so. No one watching the voter identification polls, (which shows a dramatic increase of "independent" voters, and an equally dramatic drop in democratic identification), believes the electorate will break the same way as 2008. Consensus is that the electorate will revert to traditional make up- democratic voters +4. Quinnipiac, for example, is sampling democrats +11 in some of their polling. Therefore, they are simply not believable.
Secondly, as to the unemployment rate- the payroll survey showed a gain of 114,000 jobs- paltry, not enough to cover population growth, and clearly not responsible for a drop of three tents of a percent in the rate of unemployment.
The household survey showed 873,000 more "employed" persons. From whence did these folks get employment?
Now, one might reasonably conclude that many, if not most, of them started small businesses. One would be wrong in that conclusion, however, because the Department of Labor's "birth/death" model, which measures start up firms, and the jobs created or lost in that sector, showed a LOSS of 9000 jobs from start ups.
With that possibility closed, one must investigate further. When one does, one discovers that one of the household survey questions is "has anyone in the household done any work for which he or she received compensation?". The answer is "yes" if, for example, a fifteen year old got paid twenty bucks for babysitting the neighbors' child.
That is not exactly the story of a roaring economy.
In fact, there are multiple ways to manipulate the numbers to change the unemployment rate. The most popular is the seasonal adjustment- and that was employed liberally in this report.
A better measure of the economy is the BEA data on GDP- which showed miserable growth of 1.3% in the third revision-data that is not easily manipulated.
The next two quarters will show what most have suspected- we are in a double dip recession. Play around with the numbers as you will- it does little or nothing to impact the gut feel of the electorate, who know what the real unemployment rate is- and how much things cost.
Wave "aloha" to the Obama's- they are on their way out-cooked books and all.
GodBlessAmerica #1.34 only if Obama is Re-Elected, We need someone like Superman running our Nation and that's President "OBAMA" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey, folks, now you understand what're 'Republican sour grapes'!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes, B White...keep believing that nearly a million people go back to work when barely 100,000 jobs are created. You can believe that along with your unicorns, marshmallow clouds and glitter rainbows.
Now i know where oblama and the govt SHILLS use their money, to buy more shills to post on msnbc foward the most BIASED NEWS ON THE NET!!!!!!
Good luck liar shills- you are gonna need it.
Oblama is done despite your propaganda machine the lame stream media LIARS!
Of course the numbers and polls are rigged, any one that provides them or news stories(propaganda) for that matter should be forced to divulge their voting history........liar shills.
When your mediocre candidate is loosing and there is nothing you can do about it, shoot the messenger and attack the facts. The debate proved Myth Romney is no longer believable, on any level. He has more flip-flops than a Hawaiian shoe store.
By no means is the unemployment rate drop a closed story. It sure is funny that a month before the election, we have a historic 4/10's of a rate drop in one month... Something's very fishy about that one... especially coming off such a historic poor debate performance of a standing president. Worst performance I've ever witnessed of an incumbent president. Talk about a man in trouble needing every strand of string to grasp onto.
When numbers don't add up, the economy doesn't support it, a presidential election looming and that president in major trouble... is it really a conspiracy theory to think that something behind the scenes happened? Liberals would love to make believe that such conveniences are an every day occurance... but I challenge the liberals to this question: What would they think if it happened to a republican?
Why should anyone trust the right wing either, since under GW, $2.1 trillion worth of incurred debt was hidden in inter-governmental borrowing over his last 7 years in office rather than reporting it, which obviously would have swayed reported economic numbers to the negative side too?
Could that fact be one reason that the 2008-2009 economic collapse was so huge, as that $2.1 trillion of debt suddenly had to be included in our economic numbers, as it was when the FY2008 revision was issued by the US Treasury in October of 2009?
Remember that the absolute worst year in terms of incurred debt in US history was 2008 after GW's reported debt and his inter-governmental borrowing was combined, to yield a single year debt increase of $1.838 Trillion, a figure almost 50% larger than Obama's worst year so far!
So yes,it is entirely possible to falsely sway economic numbers, just as it is possible for NBC to sway poll numbers by calling large numbers of AT&T cell phone customers and including their responses as some kind of fact in polling too, since in order to have an AT&T cell service account, you have to be somewhat on the creditworthy side too.
So maybe NBC is just as guilty of swaying its reported poll numbers as anyone else is too?
The Right are Wrong on this.
Mitt, You Lie.
Silliness talking suddenly about quality of jobs measured-part time/full time - the input into the number has been the same all the time. The right should remember-it is just a number, for some reason they are the ones that put the importance of their campaign and what they've been working for the last 4 years upon keeping this number higher than 8%....just wonder if American voters are smart enough to realize all the work republicans put into keeping this number high. Rick Santorum did say we like the dumb people and must continue to work to make Americans dumber., they will serve us better.
Gosh, I voted you up when I read the first sentence and mediocre candidate and then realized that despite facts to the contrary you were describing Romney, not Obama. In terms of mediocrity, one can truly say that Obama is the poster child. Need a vote eraser here.
As to the numbers, one of the questions was 'has anyone worked in the last week?' and if the answer was affirmative then they got counted as working full time, sorry, that's not valid. They could have had a part time job for that one week, but no differentiation was made and....most interesting is how those numbers suddenly got so great AFTER Obama got trounced in the debate. Need something to bolster his obviously flagging and sagging actions.
You loopy connies just crack me up. Everything that happens that you just do not agree with you righties claim it's all a huge conspiracy. Is that anything like the Georgia republican governor that states and I quote "the theory of evolution was created in the pits of hell"??? Holy smokes you connies have closets chock full of monsters and they just won't go away will they?? No wonder the new nick name for the republican/teabag party is "The American Taliban". What kinda of crazy constituency would ever vote such a raving lunatic like this into Congress???? And here is just one more example of why the republican majority held congress has the lowest approval rating in the history of our country. And that is why we have to get rid of these idiots in November.
So Mike in sa, You don't believe in science? Or just the science that backs up your beliefs? Or is it a giant cospiracy? You better get your story straight. By the way, do you believe in Human evolution and the ancient age of the Earth? or are you on the GOP side of the issue- you know the Earth is 6,000 years old and evolution is a lie from "the pit of Hell". Speak up and defend your party.
Ever think that there may be fewer republicans out there to get a sample from. Maybe Americans are more intelligent than to be republicans and vote for Mitt and Lying Ryan!
Looks like the GOP is Waterboarding mygirl, how is your friend Sean Hannity doing !!!!!!!!!!
Ah-hah-hah. These Teapublicans have missed their calling. They should have all been preachers, carnival barkers, and comedians.
Brian,
Did you flunk math.? Typical republican can't get their facts straight. 8.1%
-7.8%
.3%
If the media had done it's job (remained neutral, vetted the stories, not LIED)..... Barry would not be in the White House today..................
And the funny part is the libs may have faired better with McCain..........
Let's see. What's the simplest way can I put this?
Oh yeah; "Er Duh!"
Like I'd expect liars wouldn't stick to the same story. Er Duh... (~;
Brian ,
If you read the full story it said that the figures were updated with 300,000 jobs being added the last 3 months. Just like the figures were down graded the three months before that by 150,000, but Democrats didn't say it was fishy like you crying lying republican'ts!!!!!
It absolutely has to be a grand multi layered communist/marxist/liberal/gay/NBCnews//Rachel Maddow conspiracy bordering on a coup d'etat!!!! (sarcasm) It couldn't be something simple like all the retailers are adding their xmas extra help now and people are actually being hired?
When Obama is re-elected the Republicans will say the voting numbers were faked.
Typical of 21 st century Republicans ---when you don't like FACTS -- make up facts. Don't like what the polls say -- make up polls. Don't like the numbers --- make up numbers. People don't like what you say - tell them you never said it even thought they can see it and hear it. Republicans -lie, lie, lie, lie, lie, lie, the lie more.
mygirl1
and I'm sure you have proof to support that idiotic statement. Show me a shred of eivdence that those numbers were manipulated.
COinFL
When Obama is re-elected the Republicans will say the voting numbers were faked.
I'll second that motion!
Charlie-1915998
Romney camp motto: we won't let facts get in the way! That's one thing Romney is consistent on.
COinFL
it started with them claiming that Obama's birth certificate was fake, now unemplyment numbers are fake so I agree with you. That will be their next claim.
Did Obama get caught off guard not knowing that Romney would come out of the blocks lying like Romney (Freudian slip) confessed that his five sons do ... I think so ...........
Sad but true ... Obama will for SURE come fully prepared to face a bold faced liar in the next debates .......
Birthers and flat-earthers..... GO GOP!
The GOP stays wrapped up in their political positions based on neurotic mistruths for sake of political conveniance to align with their ideology. Then, they (GOP) feel conspiracies run rampant if their neurotically political positions aren't fulfilled. It's ridiculously absurd.
Unemployment figures are the gospel to the GOP if bad, and rigged if good. National Budgetary deficits have been shrinking since Obama entered office (2009 $1.4 trillion, 2010 $1.35 trillion, 2011 $1.32 trillion, 2012 $1.2 trillion). Yet, the GOP says his (Obama) spending is out of control. The GOP is purposely delusional and will say anything except the truth to get elected.......
Rasmussen Reports, consistently the most reliable polling service, has Romney UP 49-47 today.
They take likely voters - the folks who consistently and provably actually VOTE.
They take a MIX of 2004 and 2008 turnout models.
Trying to drum up hysteria by the Obama Palace Guards in the media will not work.
Romney was a point or two behind last week, but after his COMPLETE AND UTTER DRUBBING of Obama during the first debate, has pulled ahead two points.
The polling suspicions are old news. The media defenders of their Dear Leader are recycling old stories to take the spotlight off of the Libya cover-up and the 23 million Americans who are searching for full-time employment.
It won't work.
Wait until Paul Ryan debates Joe Biden.
4 years ago, the media was ALL ABOUT exclaiming that Sarah Palin was "just a heartbeat away from the Presidency".
Joe Biden is of below-average intelligence and seems to be on the wrong side of EVERY issue. The "one heartbeat away" exclamation suddenly is not an issue anymore?
A vote for Obama/Biden is irresponsible.
Romney/Ryan 2012
It's was funny how Romney shot down studies because they lie like his 5 sons ... and then went on & on quoting studies that suited his purpose ...
Thought Mitt Romney won debate over Obama. He comes out looking well, but what he said was pretty bad. That will end up glossed over. I for the life of me cannot understand how people can support Romney. He has zero credibility. There isn't a better candidate to run? Republicans/Democrats/Americans still totally screwed by either Obama/Romney. We need a realistic third choice. Here are the false claims made by both sides.
Arthur66
hahahaha
just like Fox News viewers are the most informed
hahahahah
The right can't do arithmetic... they apparently only know what arithmittic is, which is to change the numbers as much as you can.
Sorry Mitt, but if there was a third side of your mouth to talk out of, you'd be doing it.
Youtube the phrase "Is Mitt Romney a Liar? Please share."
Rick Perry, Newt Gingrich, and even Mr. Frothy himself seem to agree with the LEFT on this issue.
bayllie - you're obviously a Democrat.
Because you refute MATH.
Probability and statistics are proven and finite mathematics. Just like scientific polling.
Obama has overseen the only four $1 trillion dollar deficits in our nation's history.
He doesn't seem to know that 4 minus 5 is a negative number..... ?
@STexan,
Perry is in charge in Texas. The lowest number of insured people in the US. At least Obama's going to get you health care.
Perry is your failure in Texas not Obama.

Brian ,
If you read the full story it said that the figures were updated with 300,000 jobs being added the last 3 months. Just like the figures were down graded the three months before that by 150,000, but Democrats didn't say it was fishy like you crying lying republican'ts!!!!!
The democrats are desperate. I personally don't care how desperate you are. Your candidate has a zero... nada... none... zippo... record to run on... it was that obvious on Wed night. All this crazy talk coming from the left is simply that... crazy.. they are looking at Obama as a shoe in... well the rug has just been ripped from under your feet and there's nothing you can do about it but scream Romney lies. It wouldn't matter if the unemployment number read 4%... nothing is going to save Obama. All the shrill screams from the liberals are not going to save him.
mygirl1
Think about how mediocre McCain was that Obama beat! These career politicians are not the answer.
the Bowles-Simpson Deficit recomnedation commission Report was out 3 years ago, and the career politicians finally look at 3 years later?
It went no where because it raised taxes, and enough politicians were smart enough to know that raising taxes will kill what little recovery we have seen. 2/3's of our govenment (Senate and President) refused the only viable alternative - CUT the spending!
Good for Welch...dont let them bully you. The fact is, there were more jobs added in August than September. 114000 jobs is not even keeping up with the pace of new workers that are eligible to enter the workforce. Let the hardcore left believe this @!$%# all they want. I dont think anybody else will.
Been warning everyone for years now. Republicans get control of the outhouse, they'll relieve and feed themselves from then on.
Look at "Brianb" up there. Squealing like a constipated hog with hemorrhoids.
Why would you go out of your way to fake voting poll results? It would only serve to rally your opponents supporters. I hate partisan politics. Anything that favors the other party MUST be lies and deception. Ugh.
Biggest drop in unemployment in 29 years? Yeah right. But even if it is true, is 7.8% unemployment cause for celebration? Didn't Obama promise unemployment to be at 5.6%?
As long as he can show it is getting better. If he cannot, he can blame it on the do nothing house. Its such a transparent game hehe. I'd like to know which of O'bama's policies are creating this fabricated fall in the unemployment rate. Maybe its his smile?
The Obama propaganda machine knows that no incumbent has ever won re-election with unemployment above 8%. How convenient its 7.8% lol.
If you listen to Welch closely he is talking about the GDP numbers and the unemployment numbers. It doesn't make sense.
It's like a lady saying she can fit into a size 2 dress and her weight is 200 pounds. It simply cannot happen.
Republicans are never happy. They say they are leading. What's the problem?
Kornny
I supposed you quit reading before Welch said he did not have "any proof".
all birthers are vultures of a feather?
these angry vultures of a feather also don't like Big Bird just because Big Bird is a Democrat..15% funded by government and the rest by corporate doners.
Why is NBCnews regurgitating the same story over and over with no additional information? This is the third front page article in the last two days. It's gotten so bad that anyone who supports NBCnews needs to get their head checked.
I want to make one point very loud and clear. The GOP assertions that somehow the labor statistics are bing falsified, that somehow they are out of line with past recession recoveries and that they are liable to political influence is complete and absolute LIES! The BLS numbers are put together independently by economists and demographers from both the Dept of Census --- who does in-person household interviews and the Bureau of Labor Statistics who does phone calls to a sample of employers. But these are just to get the "rushes" --- the preminimary numbers. The final numbers come from Census Dept questionaires and BLS legall--required data from the states. They are put together independently and there are a number of "blind spots" in the analysis, meaning that the analysts do not actually know what numbers they are looking at. That prevents cheating but more importantly makes errors more easily detectable. The final numbers, about 70% of the time, show lower unemployment because there is much more under-sampling error than over-sampling error. That is, it is easier to underestimate employment growth than unemployment.
There are a number of measures and a great deal of adjunct analysys rather than just one number. Here is a link to the BLS site: http://www.bls.gov/
The BLS numnbers are extremely transparent because they are intended to be the best information available at any one point in time. They way they are collected is fully documented as are the analysis techniques and the built-in protestions against tampering or error. It's worth a read.
But the GOP liars are desperate because Romney is losing badly and they are counting on dumbwads who won't take the time to try to read and understand something that is pretty easy to understand. Prove them wrong. Go read for yourselves.
You cannot trust Obama. He is not transparent as he promised he would be. The Libya terrorist attack cover up is a perfect example. Just look at what Egypt got away with. Egypt didn't even apologize to the US.
If people still want to vote for Obama after the Libya/Egypt fiasco well........there is a sucker born every minute.
Romney has demonstrated that he is willing to abandon any principle, repeat any lie, ignore any truth, and pander to any extremist ideology to win the presidency. He expects the voting public to believe he will change when he is elected. Fat chance! Romney will be obligated to special interests, and guided by their schemes to make money at the expense of people who he says, don't count.
The Reichwing sure trusted these numbers when they were above 8%.
Go figure.
Since when has the GOP ever accepted any facts that do not directly benefit themselves?
ir12
Kornny
Only 114k jobs added...that breaks even when you consider the population growth that injects that many new workers into the labor force each month. That is proof for me. I use logic. You see, when O'bama tried to blame a video on the terror attacks that killed our Ambassador, I used logic to disprove that as well. Logic is the most powerful tool in your shed...
Let me get this straight ... according to the GOP and TP, when the numbers are against the President, they are correct, but when the numbers are in favor of the President, they are manipulated.
What a hoot.
The TP has hijacked the Republican Party and turned it into a political circus act.
"This is desperation by Republicans who want to believe what they want to believe despite data to the contrary".
Anyone believing this is a fool with their head stuck in the sand. This could just as easily be said of the Democrats, or any other party. Politics and Corporate American can make any polls / or numbers - say what they want. They will be twisted to meet their own personal agendas. It is nothing more than corruption.
Democrats are NOT the only ones capable of "arithmetic" or anything else. Government is a "divide and conquer" game involving the American People. The more strive, division, and contention they can create – the less attention it brings to them while their corruption continues to manifest.
Until the American people decide to wake up and pay attention to the "game" – this country will continue on its fast decline. It is not about "We the People" or "For the People" or "By the People". You have been taken out of the equation. They just LET you think that they work for you.
So, keep fighting amongst yourselves. That will solve everything.
After all- you have NOTHING to lose, right?
Sheesh, you don't think that the results will be down graded next month do you?
Surely not, but how is an un-employment rating as bad as when he took office, good news?
Renee, I think the employees at the Department of Labor and Statistics would disagree with you.
Yes, numbers, statistics and science are always mystical hocus-pocus to the right.
That's why they'll never understand climate change until it's FAR too late.
Liba are putting reality on ignore. See you at the polls.
There are two reasons you can never tell what Romney's really saying.
1) He changes his stance for every audience (wide one with the base, narrow in public), and
2) He uses 'weasel words" like "I need a new accountant" instead of answering the question.
Notice what he said about his tax cut. He didn't say that he DOESN'T plan to cut $5 trillion in taxes.
What he SAID was that he doesn't plan to add it to the deficit.
Now, anybody who can do arithmetic knows there aren't enough "loopholes and deductions" to pay for $5 trillion in tax cuts.
So, what Romney is saying is that the REST is coming out of the FEDERAL BUDGET. From food stamps, unemployment benefits, infrastructure funds, Medicaid, education funding, Medicare as we know it for ALL of us, increasing the Social Security retirement age, the Centers for Disease Control, FDA, EPA, etc. etc. (Notice how he talks about the STATES providing services. With what money?) In fact, the Tax Policy Institute said that Romney's plan would REDUCE FEDERAL REVENUES BY 24%.
So we should ask ourselves - are we willing to give up all that to give millionaires ANOTHER tax break?
Because that's the bottom line, folks.
I don't really like Simpson-Bowles that much; it eliminates the AMT and lowers tax rates (which I think is just another supply-side gimmick) while shrinking the number of tax brackets. We need MORE tax brackets and HIGHER rates on the wealthiest Americans.
No, Simpson Bowles went nowhere because Republicans absolutely opposed the revenue increases and the Democrats didn't like the entitlement cuts. And no, cutting spending is NOT the way to reduce the deficit. You need to grow the economy, cut spending, AND raise revenues in order to reduce the debt.
My deficit proposal would include the elimination of the Bush tax cuts for everyone in 2013 (saving $3.8 trillion), an automatic increase in tax rates by 3% for the 4th and 5th brackets and 4% for the top bracket ($501.2 billion), raise the capital gains tax to 21% ($291 billion), and the total elimination of the employer healthcare coverage deduction and the limiting of local/state tax deductions to 2% of AGI ($938.8 billion). I would also tax corporate income as it is earned worldwide ($114.2 billion), extend corporate depreciation ($241.4 billion), and reduce the mortgage interest deduction by about 75% ($161 billion).
For spending, I would freeze defense spending at 2011 levels for 10 years ($610.7 billion), decrease nondefense spending increases to 1% annual growth ($326.7 billion) reduce federal pay across the board ($50.3 billion), increase federal housing payments ($225.4 billion). As for entitlements, I would limit medical malpractice torts ($65.6 billion), increase the Medicare life expectancy age to 67 ($124.8 billion), increase the Medicare Part D premium to 35% ($241.2 billion), increase Medicare payroll tax by 1.4% ($911.9 billion), and increase the Social Security payroll tax cap to 90% of earned income ($456.7 billion). This would lead to a total of $9 trillion in savings over 10 years. And the economic effect of this reduction would be mitigated by a $2.8 trillion spending program, including $1.8 trillion for repairing our infrastructure, a $100 billion infrastructure bank, aid to the housing market, $50 billion for a green infrastructure bank, $150 billion in additional grants, loans, and investments in green and fuel-efficient technology, $180 billion for the creation of a nationwide apprenticeship program on the lines of the system in Germany, and a $400 billion investment in R&D over the next 5 years, just to name a few.
OBAMA BIDEN 2012
Soooooo... What they're saying is that the average American is beginning to realize that the mainstream media heavily favors Obama, and constantly lies to bolster his campaign. And the medias response is to write an article to try to make these people look stupid.
But go ahead Obama minions, exercise that original thinking you so prize and cherish, and blindly follow Obama and his Media Campaign Machine.
By his predecessor's economic "policies," Obama inherited staggering unemployment statistics. In October 2009, our unemployment rate was 10.1%. Our current unemployment rate is 7.8%. Obama is moving this country forward.
For the right-wing "captives of the conspiracy theory," you should be glad that more Americans have jobs.
To the right: Do not be so hateful of Obama that you are willing to continue a path of destruction, just to make one brilliant man "a one-term president."
Romney's behavior:
Before the American public, Romney boldly lied.
Before millions of our citizens, again, Mitt "flipped flopped. "
Mitt retreated from his campaign platform and website statements.
Posted: October 3, 2012.
Romney's lies:
1) Suddenly, he does not believe in "Trickle-Down" economics.
2) Suddenly, he states that he will not lower taxes for the wealthy.
3) Suddenly, he says that because people are "suffering," this is the reason that he is running for the office of the presidency.
4) Suddenly, he wants to help small businesses.
5) Suddenly, he wants to creates here in America.
6) Suddenly, he cares about public education.
7) Suddenly, he believes that Wall Street and banks should have some regulation.
8) Falsely, he states that only future Medicare recipients plans and benefits will be effected.
9) Suddenly, he ensures that under his health plan, insurers will not be able to dump the sick.
10) Suddenly, he is for Green Energy.
Romney still did not reveal any details about his economic, health care and educational plans for this country. Some television commentators state that he was "alert." However alertness does not translate into an equitable and prosperous plan for this country.
President Obama spoke the truth, ["Because he thinks his plans are so good for the middle class is not the reason that Governor Romney is hiding his plans."]
Independents: Mitt does not care about you.
Vote a straight Democratic ticket:
Obama/Biden 2012!!
#1.99 - Wed Oct 3, 2012 11:24 PM ED
Winter must be coming...global warming is shelved until next summer!
Let me point something out to you, Jo Ann.
How many times in the debate this week did Romney say, "The President promised to cut the deficit in half" ??? At least 5 times.
How many times did Romney promise to cut the deficit himself? ZERO.
The GOP is really, really good at saying, "Look over there - they didn't keep their promise!"
And also really, really good at giving you NO promises that could ever be broken.
Talk about being suckered....
I have always wondered about polls and how really accurate they are. This is not the first time. Every so often, our phone will ring with one. One decides if they want to answer them; which....makes me think, they are only as good as who actually takes the time to answer questions on the phone. I remember my mother always refused to answer political stuff on the phone because she thought they were selling something. I have thought so too at times because I have gotten calls that pretend to ask political stuff then try to sell something (an ad disguised as a poll). This sort of thing may cause some to refuse to be polled. Others may not answer because they believe candidate selection is a very private matter. (I knew someone who refused to answer polls on that basis). If we are only tallying up persons who answer polls, it may skew to a particular sort of person and not a true cross section of people. Then, of course, may be the person who answered their intentions to vote a certain way but they somehow did not get to the voting booth for whatever reason. In my view it is pretty impossible to get an accurate poll.
I sense that Romney is now doing better because more people see him as competent after that debate. There is generally a more favorable impression of him now. Will he win? I do not know, but I do definitely think his chances just got a whole lot better.
As to that jobs report, all I can say that it was sure convenient for Obama to get that one now just before an election. The timing is just so perfect; I do wonder (not that I can prove anything amiss).
Gotta love the right wing crazies, lol!! If the facts don't
agree with your delusions they must be part of some left wing conspiracy.
Science = left wing conspiracy. Unemployment falling = left wing conspiracy.
Polls including Fox news and Wall Street Journal show Obama with a lead = left
wing conspiracy.
What gets me is for the last four years every Republican politician
has been rooting for America to fail, and even worse they've been working to
make sure that it does. How they can stand in front of the American people and
proclaim they care about putting them back to work and that Obama is the reason
for the gridlock is the greatest hoax perpetrated in the history of our
country. I will say however that the right is correct about the fact that the
country is going to @!$%# and there will be a revolt, the only difference is they
are going to be the cause of it.
So you would rather hear a lie? Interesting. Would it be more comforting to you if Romney were to promise that he will cut the deficit in half? Would that satisfy you?
Thanks for proving my point, Kornfed.
No, I would rather hear specifics and see someone try to live up to them, even if they fall short in the attempt.
Instead of being gullible enough to swallow platitudes that mean nothing that no one can ever be held accountable for.
Actually, the outpouring of support for President Obama seems to have increased since the debate. Romney came across as a desperate bully, and who can blame the President for being taken off guard by the GOP Chameleon? More than half the nation was left scratching their heads wondering how any true American with integrity could stand in front of the nation and say things like "I will not cut education" when he has stated all along he was cutting Pell Grants for college students. And saying 47% of Americans are freeloaders one day, and then saying the next day, he was "completely wrong." Kind of like the thief that is sorry he was caught but not sorry that he stole.
As a former Republican, I had some respect for Mr. Romney up until the debate. But, any person that would intentionally put his own selfish interests ahead of the best interests of the American people, is unqualified to hold political office.
What are we supposed to believe?
Arthur 66,
One reason that the Rasmussen numbers look different is that they do not poll those whose only telephone line is a cell phone. That excludes about 30% of US Households.
On the unemployment number, this has been derived in the exact same way for decades. There is a poll of around 50K households and the same questions are asked.
One reason that the rate may have dropped while the private sector figures were around 114K jobs added is because there have been 2- 3 million unfilled technical jobs -- I'm not making this up -- so there were standing openings to be filled. Plus there were some governmnet jobs created, and many of the jobs were part time (which has ALWAYS played the same role in the calculation). One thing I find wierd is that the labor force lower age is 16 -- aren't they supposed to be in school? Why do they count in the unemployment rate at all?
The Teabaggers hate for anything to be heard except for their own rhetoric and propoganda. Check out the censorship war being raged on Craigslist Long Island NY Rants & Raves.
correction: 5) Suddenly, he wants to create jobs here in America.
Well, if that is the case, then O'bama is your man to be sure. Instead of saying he can lower the seas, maybe Romney should say that he will not allow a drought to happen while he was in office!!! He may fall short, but the grandiose promise is well worth supporting this man for!
Its okay. Nutjobs from the extreme left question charges against Julian Assange.
ASSANGE LOVERS, MEET YOUR NONSENSE COUNTERPARTS, LIKE JACK WELSH!
'Go back to your cave dug by the gestapo wing of the tea party'.
The "Tea Party" responses are made by people ignorant of history. You use it to make reference to the Republican Party. You are wrong. It should pertain to ALL people of the USA who still believes in the Constitution and the Bills of Rights. If not, YOU have a problem.
It is because of the "Sons of Liberty" and other American Patriots, that we enjoy the freedoms we do. Those groups was formed to protect the rights of the people. Their motto became, "No taxation without representation".
On February 27, 2009, the phrase "Taxation without representation" was also used in the Tea Party protests, where protesters were upset over increased government spending and taxes, and specifically regarding a growing concern amongst the group that the U.S. government is increasingly relying upon a form taxation without representation through increased regulatory levies and fees which are allegedly passed via unelected government employees who have no direct responsibility to voters and cannot be held accountable by the public through elections.
Not a Tea Party Supporter? Perhaps you should pack and move out of the USA....
If the stimulus had worked as the Obama administration advertised then unemployment should now be less than 6%. If control of the federal deficit had taken place the way that the President had promised then the 2012 deficit should have been less than 229.27 billion dollars and not more than 1.1 trillion dollars. The President has failed to keep his promises on the economy.
Amti science, evolution is a myth, numbers dont matter andl hostility towards investing in education in general. I dont get the repubs. I guess the Palin outlook on the world is the new consevatism. I would like to point out to the rank and file repubs that while your leaders say all this stuff is not needed, they all send their kids to the best universities so they can be the bosses of the future while your kids can be their worker bees.
Chris, thank you!!! I just got through doing my EEOC reports which do a comparison of this year and last year at roughly the same time. We have to break down the jobs by codes and ethnicity's. This gives the BLS who get their information from a lot of sources some of the figures that they need to do these reports. There are also Wage Surveys that are NOT voluntary, that we have to do and give numbers for jobs and wages. I do at least four of these a year. I can say for the company that I work for , we have been hiring at least 2 people per week for the last 6 weeks for our MD/VA locations and the same for our Florida locations. Company's are hiring and it is not just for the Christmas season or to replace people that have left for other jobs. We are hiring new people for NEEDED positions.
I wish that people like the ex CEO and others would keep their uninformed and completely idiotic statements to themselves. It is no wonder we can't seem to get anything done.
And Fox news does depress it's viewers and makes them STUPID!!! I watched it in action with my in laws last weekend. God what a terrible way to spend your waning years.
If you're interested in an actual scientific-method, cross-checkable analysis of the supposed "oversampling" bias of polls, read statistician Nate Silver's article on FiveThirtyEight.com:
Poll Averages Have No History of Consistent Partisan Bias
I have a cousin whose had their unemployment benefits cut off. Does this mean that under the polls, this guy is not counted?
Anyone who is looking for a job right now knows this poll is full of crap. You can claim even 2% unemployment, but everyone knows that is not the case.
OK, let's play a game called "logic." If Obama really were doctoring statistics, why wouldn't he have started much earlier, say, two years ago? He could be running his campaign with a cool 5% unemployment rate, if he has as much power over what the BLS reports as you think he does. Why is he being such a lousy cheater, when he supposedly is such a proficient cheater? Then again, he's also a very lousy socialist, a very lousy communist, a very lousy Marxist, very lousy at destroying America and taking away our freedoms, and very lousy at everything you extremist right-wingers accuse him of.
Ignoring the fact that there is an election coming up, the unemployment rate has been going down and it was to be expected that it would break the 8% barrier some time in mid-to-late 2012. It would have been anomalous for it to not do so. It isn't anomalous for it to have done so.
Oh, bullsh*t. If you go back to July's and August's reports, they were actually revised up -- which is one of the reasons why the unemployment rate went down.
Since your high-school statistics teacher didn't seem to teach you this, please repeat after me: correlation does not imply causation, correlation does not imply causation.
Yes, the unemployment rate is more likely to go down from August to September in election years, let's say that's true. Might that be because of all the new jobs the election cycle creates, especially in the swing states? You know — media, journalism, pollsters, souvenir vendors, campaign staff, lobbyists, and every other industry directly or indirectly related to presidential, senatorial, congressional, state, and local elections? What hard proof would lead you to immediately believe the unemployment data are simply doctored??
Please explain how 114,000 new jobs equates to 8.1 down to 7.8...The only way this happens is for people to be dropping out of the workforce like flies. You libs say conservatives cant do math. So tell me how this equation works....and please, show your work! No calculators!
Mike in SA - For crying out loud man. You just posted 2,756 words! If you don't think that if being very, very excessive, than you need to start posting this stuff as an article on your Newsvine page and give us all a break. IMO, these forums are for posting brief arguments and responses not dissertations.
As for people thinking the polls are intentionally skewed, I can't conceive a reason why someone might think fudging poll data could give one of the parties and edge. Please enlighten me.
What percentage matters most to Citizen Romney?
47%.
That number from his infamous recent fundraising diatribe is the albatross around his neck that will doom him come election day.
I want the Republican Party back. Not this bunch of right wing loons that believe in conspiracies, creationism, guns and their bibles. Not this bunch of racists that threatens us with the destruction of America if the first Black President is reelected.
They haven't a clue of what the Constitution meant to the Founding Fathers who weren't Christian and who valued reason and science! They want to pick and choose what parts of the Constitution to pay attention to. They are all for Freedom of Religion if it means their RELIGION! Huge on the idea of bearing arms but not so clear on the context. Restrictions on Seizure, rights of the Accused, etc...well screw that nonsense! They freak out over Sharia Law without realizing how closely their own belief system aligns with it!
Right now the USA ranks something like 17th in the world on Math & Science. Well judging from Romney & Ryan's ability to do math and the emphasis on Religion/Creationism and ignorance of Evolution, I'd say we'll be a Third World Country in no time if the GOP wins this election.
And as for Big Bird, he's what's for dinner!
I finally figured out why the president didn't seem to make any effort at the debate.
He new he had nothing to worry about, because he had allready arranged for the unemployment report to be fixed with phony numbers to debunk Romney's constant harping on 8% unemployment.
There are absolutely no other economic data to support the numbers. As Welch said, all the other indicators show stagnation and weakness in most all economic indicators, and all of a sudden just after the president gets knocked off his perch, and the election is imminent, and nothing can be done to debunk the numbers in time, 873,000 jobs magically appear.
Just like the 4.5 million jobs Obama claims to have created, i don't know anybody who got one.
Do you?
Thieves are always afraid of being stolen from.
Liars are always accusing the others around them of lying.
Cheaters are always sure that others are cheating on them.
That pretty much covers the GOP/TP/Koch party.
If your cousin is still looking for work, he's still counted.
Unemployment has been counted as "active" participants in the workforce (employed or looking for a job) since 1994.
Which means that all increases and decreases in the "unemployment" rate since 1994 are valid measurements of the U3 rate, since they're "apples to apples" comparisons.
Best argument there is for not going back to the policies of the GOP:
Private Sector Payroll Employment
This was the CNN Money headline in Bush's last month of office:
Job loss: Worst in 34 years
Employers slashed 598,000 more jobs in January
'Nuf said!
lynseypug
If you want to try and imply that you are a disgruntled Republican angry at your own party, you should turn off your posting history in order to pull the lie off cleanly.
The GOP has become so anti-intellectualism (starting with hate for academia, and then on from there) that conspiracy theories ARE their new ideology/platform. Wow, this is what happens when folks go so far to the Right that they go off the cliff.
Aside from their obsession with things like ACORN, Solyndra, Planned Parenthood, pubic broadcasting, and a LONG list of nontroversies, lies (Planned Parenthood does very few abortions), and idiocy (PBS is educational and therefore the mouthpiece of the Left, heaven forbid!)...
First it was the "truthers" than the "birthers" than the fake poll results, and now the fake unemployment report. The job reports were okay when the numbers were bad, just not the ones that help President Obama -- OMG, how does that work?! The absolute worst example of rightwing idiocy was Todd Akin spilling the beans about the QUACKERY regarding women and "forcible" or real rape that Paul Ryan and many in the Republican Party subscribe to.
We as a nation cannot elect ignorant people to office -- at the minimum -- and ultimately what we as a nation must do is improve our education system to teach critical thinking to overcome such ignorance. It is a very sad commentary that so many Americans, who live in this great country with so much technology, now in the 21st Century are SO ignorant. WTF?!
The employment numbers matters when they come in negatively and making the President look bad but when they are positive, they say they are jimmied. When polls numbers favor the republicans, they are "words from God" when they don't, they are skewed and the dems are being over sampled.
I suppose the "true" poll numbers reflecting the Great Master Debater Romney's show as coming from God if they are in his favor, but skewed if no change or in favor of the President. Romney made a complete 180 degree turn from what he has been campaigning on. He looked like he was on subbies. We know he wasn't over caffeinated, now don't we. Lie after lie. Or was it the truth after truth for a change. Only thing we know is most of what that man playing Willard Romney was saying was not what Romney believes. His strategy was to overwhelm both the President and the moderator. Some say he secretly brought in notes, then it was just a hankie. What was that paper he had in his hands he couldn't quite tuck in his jacket after the debate while his family was on stage? It looked like he handed it to his son. Oh well...we may never know, just like we won't know about his tax returns.
One thing is sure, whatever Romney believe the people want him to be, he will claim to be. And the right wingers will believe him. If obama wins, we all win, if romney wins, only the rich and china win. see u at the polls.
No takers eh? I dont blame you
I probably pay more in income tax than most of the people on this thread...the government takes so much out of what I earn, that it makes me dizzy. I studied hard, very hard in school and graduated and got a good job...you might think that I am affiliated or at least identify with the Republican Party and would vote for Mitt Romney and the truth is, I do not. Let me tell you why...
Over the 10+ years, I have seen this party become the bastion of lunatics that candidates have to suck up to in order to get votes...I mean you have these raging lunatics like Michelle Bachman and Rick Santorum who demand so much attention from the base...I mean Rick Santorum couldn't even keep his job as an incumbent senator and yet he wants to run for president...huh????? Every Republican candidate is running a gauntlet to the point where they are so beat up and mangled, it is hard to put this person out there...Mitt Romney has been on every side of the field on just about every issue...I would have more respect for him if he didn't pretend he gives a crap about anyone who has an income lower than his. I admire and respect that he's been able to amass so much wealth in his lifetime...its not jealousy....if anything, its admiration...and I'm sure he's followed the law...but people have the right to know about the history of the candidate they are electing and if anything, he's been evasive. Anybody who after Wednesday's debate actually think he's sincere about wanting to help the middle class, lower the deficit, and reduce taxes will have flashbacks about the moment they pushed the button next to his name in the voting booth if he is elected. I voted for Chris Christie as governor of my state because I believe he was telling the truth...Although I disagree with some of his policies and statements, by and large, I think he's a good governor and probably would vote for him again. Though, I wish he would spend less time on the campaign trail and more on tackling New Jersey's issues.
While I believe Obama's policies may not have had all the desired effects in the way that people want them to, I do believe he is telling the truth and is well intentioned...He's made decisions that have cost him politically in order to do what many people believe is right, though would never admit it. I believe he will do everything possible to keep us out of another war while Romney looks like he's sharpening his knives to get us into another fight we can't get out of. Yes, Obama's debate performance totally sucked and he didn't call out Romney for the numerous lies and stretches he put out there, but he didn't attempt to lie to the public in that debate in order to gain a vote. The fact checkers were busy on Wednesday night and Thursday to show that much is true.
So in a month, people are going to decide and everybody will have to be satisfied with the result...just don't be surprised if the debt keeps climbing, high unemployment continues, wage stagnation increases, taxes go up, food and gas prices climb, etc...you just may not have that socialist, commi, marxist, fascist, muslim, food stamp, born in mombasa, arab, "not one of us" guy to blame before he's inaugurated...I wonder if the tea party will still be in existence on November 7th....
Also a note to the women who may be reading this...its likely that Obama/Romney will appoint several justices to the court in the next 4 years and they will be around long after Obama/Romney leave...just consider that Roe v. Wade (abortion ruling) by the Supreme Court is likely to be overturned...Justice Scalia has already said that it is an easy ruling for him to make to overturn your rights...a few more justices like him and it will be overturned...
Can't trust RR either since both can not give concrete figures of their calculation specially good ole Mity likes to grab any numbers from the sky
Hal, you counted this person's words?! That sounds like a long project.
I always thought I spent way too much time on Newsvine...but...wow...

It is not that difficult to find an explanation of the 7.8% number for anyone willing to look. Guess it is just too easy to jump on the conspiracy theory because that is the only thing you want to believe. There is no shortage of experts saying the numbers cannot be rigged, as there are of few saying for political purpose that the numbers are wrong, yet they are unable to back up their mouths with facts. Here is one explanation of the numbers if you want to know the truth.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/ezra-klein/wp/2012/10/05/september-jobs-report-debunking-the-jobs-report-conspiracy-theories/
Still....no takers...
These job numbers must be wrong... After all the obstruction from this GOP Congress, there's no way that President Obama could be month after month gaining jobs.,.. Can't be, congress still hasn't passed President Obama job's bill...
No... With all the obstruction from this "Do Nothing Congress" Girlie-man, Mich McConnell, How in the world could our president still be making progress???
The haters in Washington DC are losing the game... Ya gotta love President Obama....
On election day lets fire all those that signed the no new tax pledge and get this country working again...
By the way, if you do read the article, please note that there were actually 211,000 individuals that came into the workforce, not drop out.
The entire Democrat party spends every day coveting thy neighbors ox. What a bunch of little complainers. Life is not fair!! Work hard an make your own wealth. When I was just getting out of college I was making $30K. Never did I have the mentality that every person that makes more than me should have to give me some of their money. I did not hate the people that made more money than me. I did not demand that we redistribute their wealth to me. That is just not how I was brought up. I was taught at a young age that if you want something you go work hard and get it yourself. You do not steal from others just because they have more than you. You do not ask the government to steal for you. You do not look at people that have more than you and feel that there is no way that they could have possibly gotten to where they are without stealing from others. You gradually work your way up in life by making good decisions. I came from a lower middle class family where my parents combined never made over $40K. The values they taught me will never be forgotten. Work hard, give to the charity's that you believe in, give yourself to the community to help others, treat others as you would like to be treated, take personal responsibility, live below your means, etc.. Sorry, but never did my parents teach me to hate family's that have more money than us and steal from them to get ahead in life.

The article you posted did not do the job unfortunatly...but a post in response to this article hit the mark I thought. Here is part of it...
A brief sampling of Republican wisdom:
The polls are rigged.
The job numbers are cooked.
Carbon dating measurements are invalid.
Every accepted scientific conclusion about biology and geology is a lie.
Carbon emissions do not warm the globe.
Tobacco products are not addictive and do not cause cancer.
The Loch Ness Monster is real.
Liberals only talk in Romney negatives. The problem with that is... only the liberals are listening. Liberals can't talk in Obama positives, because there aren't any.
Soooooo. Since Obama has no positives to speak of for the past 4 years... what is he running on? What exactly is going to get him re-elected? His charm? His shoe size? This isn't 2008 when he was building up and offering hope and change... Hope and change has packed up and left.
Since the liberals are all boasting so much on how Obama is going to win... pony up and tell us why he's going to win... Considering the fact that on Wed night, the nation got to see Romney... and they voted for him 67% to 25%... remember perception is reality...
Just like the job numbers are jello... so are the past positive polling results for Obama..
"
Are you listening to yourself? You're validating my point. Texas is surviving Obamaville better then most states and according to you, part time jobs are all that is available in Texas. So am I to understand that part time jobs is where we have came to accept as great?
This is the problem. We have been so beaten down for so long, we have forgotten where we could be or where we were, and have came to view the current situation as normal and acceptable (the new "norm"). Very sad to witness this transformation of so many Americans for the sake of promoting liberalism and their failed POTUS."
so tell me again how is Romney going to make it better? I havn't heard anything from him other than he will cut every ones taxes and fill tax loopholes so in the end we all actually pay more.LOL hmmmmmmmmmm like Mitt is going to close tax loopholes he himself uses?? LOL OK!
Seriously how is he going to create Jobs, Good Jobs? Please point me to his words that say how he will do it?
Out of the Woods,
Yeah, I am sure those several Black people you saw protesting reflect the sentiment of all Black voters in America. /S
That is the problem with you Righties, you have the inability to stop over generalizing. So when you see one or five people going something then by God that is how the rest of the country must feel! Not so, that is how those few people feel and not how the rest of the country feels. Time for your reality check, everyone has been watching Romney long enough to know how he rolls and how he rolls is to steam roll over any past commitment made in order to pander to who he is in the room with.
Put Romney in front of a room full of Evangelicals and he will suddenly become anti-Abortion, anti-Gay Rights, pro-Theocracy. Put him into a room full of Moderates and he will become a non-tax cut, Medicare saving, Ryan-dismissing, against out sourcing kind of guy. Put him in front of a room of wealthy donors where he thinks he is not being recorded and see him become who he really is.
Romney will change his positions depending on the environment, he has done this enough and been criticized for it enough that people now look for him to do that.
After watching the debate with my family, my Uncle, who is a die hard Rightist, said he will not be voting in this election. He got put off by Romney's move to the center during the debate. He wanted to see Romney pledge to fundamentally alter Medicare like he said he would do via Ryan's plan, he wanted Romney to say he was going to be giving tax cuts to the wealthy. He wanted to hear Romney say that he was for repealing all of Dode-Frank and ending many regulations put into place by Obama as well as repealing Obamacare entirely and going back to the old system.
He did not like what he heard and he is tired of Mitt changing his mind so he said he will not be voting and he is going to make sure everyone in his gated community in Tuscon that he has dinner parties with that were also going to or thinking of voting for Romney are made aware of Mitt's apparent change of heart.
Republicans are sooo despirate to get the Black guy out of the White house, they grasp at any straws they can. Everythings a conspiracy except when they conspire to block citizens from voting. Most of that fraud has been shot down in court, but I suppose republicans think that is a conspiracy as well. In 2000, the 90,000 mostly black voters in Florida who were knocked of the voting role because their name was similar to some felon anywhere else in the country, that wasn't conspiracy, oh wait, it was. I could go on for pages but, I have a life.
Kornfed, July and August numbers were also updated. Many more than what was originally reported. This is done all the time. Sometimes the updated numbers show more, sometimes fewer jobs. These past two months happened to be upgraded. How do you suppose all the final reports can come in and have time to be analyzed in one day? The numbers are then averaged for three months to come up with the more accurate report. Septembers numbers updated numbers will be in October and Novemebrs reports. You still have one report before the election, so don't cry. The numbers will once again be updated.

out of the woods and other rightwingers --
Agreed that many jobs being created now are per the Bain Capital model of outsourcing to China, firing folks so the company can hire them back at lower wages and benefits, and general destruction of the middle class so the rich like Romney can get even richer. Wages have been stagnant for the last 30 years, with good-paying jobs disappearing the fastest during the Bush/Cheney administration.
Romney/Ryan and the GOP want to abolish the minimum wage, end labor rights such as unions, and have blocked legislation such as the Bring Jobs Home Act. If rightwingers don't like statistics like the unemployment numbers the last four years, than do something about it and throw the obstructionist Do Nothing Teapublicans OUT!
The Romney/Ryan's 59 point and not-wonky budget BS will do nothing to reduce deficits, rather the additional breaks for the rich, corporate welfare, and neocon Hawk defense spending will increase the deficit -- and they expect YOU to tighten YOUR belt do do it.
PS -- Also, Mormons are wackadoodles who believe God talks to their prophet, who baptize the dead, who still practice polygamy in that men can be "sealed" to more than one women, etc. I don't care what political Party they belong to, but anyone who believes such nonsense are the same types who believe the jobs numbers are fake. Someone like that cannot lead this great nation (haunting).
Romney/Ryan The 21st Century Robber Barons -- They aren't in it for you.
Ozzy, you are so wrong. I am from Massachusetts. I lived through 4 years of so-called "leadership" from Mitt Romney. Funny, isn't it, that he is trailing Obama by 25+ points in Mass? Why? Because they know him. Massachusetts trends Democratic, but that doesn’t explain it -- the state elected Republican Scott Brown to the US Senate in 2010. We have a long history of electing Republicans, especially to the governor's office. Massachusetts voters KNOW Mitt Romney best -- a one-term governor with an approval rating of 39% -- and they don’t trust him. If he was such a great governor and leader, why are the voters rejecting him?
I lived through Romney as governor. He says anything to get what he wants. This was obvious during the recent debate. He looks sincerely into the camera and takes any position likely to get votes, then takes
exactly the opposite position just as sincerely. This guy will stoop to a bald-faced lie, and turn on a dime to please his audience. He left the state in a financial mess and though he claims he didn't raise taxes, he raised every possible fee to plug the holes in his budget. That's taxation by another name in my book, he just wanted to hide it.
Romney said he was a moderate, then traveled the country bad-mouthing our “liberal” state, and now claims he was a “severe conservative.” Until he turned moderate again last Wednesday! He used Massachusetts as a steppingstone, spending 212 days out of state campaigning for President during his last year as governor, making jokes at our expense. Massachusetts voters have hard experience with Romney and resent being used by him.
He didn’t care about our state and he doesn’t care about yours – he just cares about winning.
I know what I am saying – Romney fooled me. Massachusetts will not be fooled this time
around. Don’t let him fool you.
Admittedly, Romney's surge in the national polls over the last two days is undeniable.
What is also undeniable is that his surge is predicated ENTIRELY on polls from three sources and three sources alone:
Rasmussen, reputable although historically right-leaning.
WeAskAmerica, entirely disreputable and funded in full by the Illinois Manufacturers Asscociation, a notoriously right-leaning entity which has contributed $1.5MM to Republican candidates since 2004.
Gravis Marketing, entirely dismissable for continuing to receive major funding from BAIN Capital, according to their own website. Enough said.
What is most astonishing is that Real Clear Politics would even accede to include findings from WeAskAmerica and Gravis Marketing in their daily averaging, but a closer race at the national level does serve to benefit advertisers on Real Clear....so 'oh well'.
When Real Clear returns on Monday to including polling from bi-partisan organizations, Obama's lead will once again begin to swing upward where it rightfully has been.
jeff, just so we know, how exactly does evolution work.
First, I would like to propose a 200 word limit to postings. Really People? Are you kidding? Are these narratives providing you some kind of weird pleasure or are you so delusional that you believe people are sitting at home reading every word, thankful for the enlightenment offered by yourself?
In response to not believing the polls---delusional much? The spread is really not statistically significant, why the hysteria?
all one has to do is read these posts by democrat supporters and you will be disgusted at the behavior of these people. all they do is ridicule the opposition, call names, insult, belittle, lie, insult some more, cover for their "guy" with lies, insult some more and finally they scream and scream till they get their way. you are a disgrace to humanity and terrible person to covet your political guy over the fellow citizen. right or left, you both need to grow up and stop letting politicians fool you and please stop with the BS lies. you really think politicians and political pundits/junkies are telling you the truth?
these authors above and many more knew what would happen if we left the safety of the republic and let government control everything, from what we eat to what we read, government is there when they should not be.
NHLucky - I am still trying to figure out how someone from Utah was elected your Governor. I can understand how Romney must have missed the name of the state at the top of his tax returns when he signed them, but why did anyone vote for him?
It's a Commie Pinko Liberal Plot!!! LOL. When was that last time you saw a liberal or a bunch of them with the ability to pull off such a stunt. That territory belongs to conservatives. They're the ones with all the schemes designed to make Obama a one term president. I'll be a happy camper when that gets shoved up their tight little right-wing sphincters.

Actually the data you site was in the article. From the aritcle...
Everybody knows unemployment numbers are straight up bull@!$%#.
How about reporting employment numbers ?
I would like to see how many Americans are working as compared to whose benefits have run out. What a load of crap.
They won't stop.
In case anyone can't tell, math is not a strong suit when it comes to Republicans (unless it lines their pockets!), conservatives, and Christians (science and math evil!), and most American Consumers (math is for nerds, geeks, and losers!).
With that much stupidity on their side, no, they won't stop.

"You cannot trust Obama. He is not transparent as he promised he would be. The Libya terrorist attack cover up is a perfect example. Just look at what Egypt got away with. Egypt didn't even apologize to the US.
If people still want to vote for Obama after the Libya/Egypt fiasco well........there is a sucker born every minute"
This to me is interesting considering that Romney so far has said so many different things I believe he has lost track. You complain about Obama..did you complain about Bush when he handed out tax cuts to the wealthy..? Did you complain about the huge loss of jobs under his watch..thanks to his so called trickle down economics ? I have to assume you wish to return to the same ideas that the republicans used back then..and caused the huge loss of jobs that they now blame Obama for. Did you complain to your republican congress people about their not doing anything for this nation for the past four years ? HAve you complained to them about the fact that have done nothing toward creating any type of jobs at all ?
No president who has a congress as screwed up as the one we have today can get much of anything done. But I guess you believe Romney when he says along with Ryan..Trust me...and you are the one saying there are suckers born every minute..??
What the--? As if a health care worker in Denver knows diddly squat about voter registration in Cleveland! Next we'll hear from a pizza delivery boy in Omaha about the unemployment statistics.
Everyone has an opinion, but not all opinions are equal. An uninformed opinion is not equal to an informed opinion.
As for Jack Welch, he has nothing--NOTHING-- to back up his B.S. Nothing but an ego the size of his fat head.
The only way Romney can win the election is to buy, lie and now CRY. Romney is so clearly not presidential material! Lay off the koolaid and the conspiracies theories, righties. We don't have enough psychiatrists in this country to treat all of you.
Ooohh.. And for You HopeisGone:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=og35U0d6WKY&feature=player_detailpage
Checked the job numbers for September.
This is a CNN article.
Now if the revisions follow their normal trend and are adjusted Up as ususal. What is going to happen to the joblesss number then?
Will it ever be reported by the lame media the real jobless number? Not on your life. Everyone with half a brain knows the media is going to do all they can to get O'dumb dumb reelected.
What a Joke these libbies are. Obama has no record to run on, but since he is a Dummycrat he is the best thing since sliced bread.
Our schools are now ranked 17th in the would, and with the highest corporate tax rate. If I had a business I certainly would not look to expand in our own country.
Republicans have turned in the party of whiners. Romney says 47% think they’re victims?? That’s total BS. It’s Republicans who think they’re victims. Oh poor us – the liberal media is out go get us. Oh poor us – the pooling organizations are stacking the numbers to make us look bad. Oh poor us – the Bureau of Labor Statistics manipulates the data to make us look bad. On poor us – we’re such victims.
Hey republicans – stop your damn whining. Get a clue. Your problem isn’t the media. Ronald Reagan won 49 states with no Fox News and no Limbaugh. George W. Bush won 2 terms with the same media we have today. The problem isn’t that the polls are stacked, it not that the media is out go get you, and it’s not that numbers are being manipulated. The problem is Mitt Romney is a LOUSY candidate, with LOUSY ideas who is running a LOUSY campaign. It you want to win the White House – find a bitter candidate, with better ideas, with a better campaign who knows how to win.
ED - typical Liberal. Sees everything in skin color.
When you say "diversity" to a Conservative, they think diversity of beliefs, background, experiences.
When you say "diversity" to a Liberal, they think SKIN COLOR.
Nobody cares about the President's skin color, except for racists and Libs (often the same person).
The Robert Byrd wing of the Democrat party cares about his skin color.
Nobody else does.
Romney/Ryan 2012
The paranoid, the bigoted, the stupid, and the religious fanatics = 50% of the republican party. As a group, these morons are invaluable to the oligarchs - and they come cheap. All it takes is a conspiracy theory or two.
"Rasmussen Reports, consistently the most reliable polling service, has Romney UP 49-47 today."
Rasmussen Reports, consistently the most reliable polling service??? Arthur -- are you drunk, on drugs or have you been living on Mars for the last 5 years?? In 2008, at the end of October, Rasmussen had McCain winning in Ohio, Indiana, Virginia, North Carolina and Colorado. He LOST every one of them. Rasmussen is the rightward leaning pooling service, not the most reliable.
Ever notice that when the numbers aren't what the GOP want they cry that they were cooked but when Mitt Wormtongue Romney gets caught lying with his pants around his ankles again they it was just that people didn't understand or miss understood him. Sorry Mitt, when you get caught downtalking the general public when you're not aware that someone is taping then it means they got the truth.
It amazes, disgusts me and sometimes amuses me that since President Obama was elected - any time there is good news in the country or anytime statistics point to an improvement or anytime the Unites States does something good in the world, the Republicans disavow it, criticize it, call it a lie, or claim it is part of a vast conspiracy. They do this at the same time that they call themselves "Real Americans" and claim to love their country and their god. How can you rejoice at bad news, disbelieve good news and criticize anyone who plays a part in anything good just because there is a Democrat involved?
JimD - the bigots populate the George Wallace wing of the Democrat Party.
The party that fillibustered the Civil Rights Act for 82 days.
The party that had a former Klansman in the Senate until TWO YEARS AGO.
It hurts - I know!!!!
Romney/Ryan 2012
Real American... Obama makes empty promises. He "promised" to reduce the defit by 1/4 in one term. He "promised" to close Gitmo. He "promised" to have the MOST transparent administration ever. He "promised" to bring America together. He has done none of that. What he DID is the total opposite in every regard. You all wanted to hear he'd perform miracles, were suckered into believing him, and once he got your votes, he doesn't deliver...you've been HAD. I was initially very impressed by him, but the more I heard his slippery rhetoric, learned NOTHING about WHO he is, had all of his records of his education, his law practice closely guarded, learned of his friends and mentors and associates, saw the arrogant ways he treated Hillary Clinton. I saw a phoney with a huge ego...And who can trust someone who is so guarded and secretive. Also, you judge a person by the company he keeps, and Wright, Morris, Ayers, Rezko, Said and others with names I can't even spell...I was and still AM afraid for this country if he gets another term. I think he's planted too many seeds already.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Can't possibly see WHY GOP is suspicious of these unemployment numbers. The timing is just so convenient, right after Obama does takes a shellacking in the debate. That number doesn't reflect ALL of the people out of work...like those underemployed or who have given up on their job hunt. So why would anyone be suspicious of the most corrupt, lying, manipulative, secretive group who have raised the art of cover-ups to whole new level? Funny thing though, is that Obama railed and ranted about the 7.8% unemployment he inherited from Bush, and now we are RIGHT BACK TO WHERE WE STARTED FROM. So what he thought was just a shameful situation in '09...is now considered an accomplishment????
What's that FISHY smell?
Rasmussen predicted 52-46 for Obama in 2008, which was DEAD ON.

Romney/Ryan 2012
Pity the fool,
You have a narrow and stereotypical view of who aligns themselves with the Democratic Party...if you think you story of hard work and perseverance moves mountains, I can gladly put you in contact with people whose stories would move planets...yes, they lean Democrat but they don't lump all lazy people into the party and then write them off as you just did. I'm glad your parents taught you the value of hard work and charity....mine did the same. It really is a shame that terms like "food stamp president" and "welfare president" are used to stereotype all the people whose views and values coincide with a political party. What is most ironic about your statements is that the states with the highest % of population on public assistance are states that are consistently red in presidential elections and need money from the federal government to balance their budgets..Texas, Mississippi, Alabama...need I go on?
Arty66 - You are lying. And you, and newt, and the rest of your ridiculous party of conspiracy theorists, whiners, and religious fanatics know it.
Woo hoo Mr. President! 114,000 new Jobs!
“The report from the Bureau of Labor statistics shows workforce participation remained essentially flat in September, at around 64 percent, with an uptick in workers who took part time jobs for economic reasons, such as not being able to get full time employment”.
Would those be low wage holiday retail jobs hawking clothing made in China to strapped Americans who who will have to use their credit cards to pay for them? Is that the best you can do Mr. President? Apparently so.
Hi Jefferson, yes,
Rasmussen, you call right leaning, has been the most accurate pollster in recent years. I'm not sure how being the most accurate indicates leaning right, but I'm sure you have some idea what you meant.
Gravis, if they do get money from Bain (here I will take your word for it since it doesn't matter if your word is true or not in terms of my reply), could still produce a viable and reputable poll result. See, and this might be shocking to you to know since you apparently don't know, but Bain has many liberal or leftist or Democratic partners too. In fact, many of them are giving money to Mr. Obama. So, would a firm that has partners who support Mr. Obama then fund a polling firm in order to produce slanted results in favor of Mr. Romney? Logically speaking, you make no sense.
ir12 -- the short answer is that he lied to us and we fell for it. We thought he was like other responsible Republican governors we had had; it turned out Governor of Massachusetts was just a notch on his belt and he tossed us aside like a bit of lobster shell from a clambake. I can go into more detail if you like. It is all recorded on video!

Wrong! Here are the official rate of growth since January 2009 to September 2012: -6.7, -0.7, 1.7, 3.8, 3.9, 3.8, 2.5. 2.3, 0.4, 1.3, 1.8, 3.0, 2.0, and 1.3. You are not even close to being correct. That being stated, the USA’s economy is not bad nor is it good. The real issue is the lack of new company startups. That is what drives new job growth in the USA economy. The War on Posterity is having its enormous negative impact.
Presidents of the USA do NOT drive the economy - for-profit business do, as does the free enterprise system. The president of the USA does NOT have that power. If they did, the USA would always have a robust expanding economy. Their policies can and do have a positive or negative impact(s).
OK liberals... step back 8 years... Remember what you were saying back then about the two candidates running... Pretty much the same things you are saying today... Republican - BAD.... Democrat - GOOD.
Step back 4 years. Republican - Bad.... Democrat - VERY GOOD! So Obama won... did you?
JimD - the bigots populate the George Wallace wing of the Democrat Party.
Job statistics don't change voters minds, jobs change their minds. Ronald Reagan said it best, A recession is when your neighbor loses their job and a depression is when you lose your job.

One more time Arthur --- In 2008, at the end of October, Rasmussen had McCain winning in Ohio, Indiana, Virginia, North Carolina and Colorado. He LOST every one of them.
Math is tough to accept when your party keeps passing TRILLION DOLLAR DEFICITS.
History is tough to accept for Republicans like you. You to forget that the first trillion dollar deficit happened under George W. Bush. You seem to forget that George W. Bush and his Republican Congress who brought us two unfunded wars, a massive, unfunded, new entitlement, the largest expansion of government since LBJ, the largest increase in energy prices in any 8 year period in our history, along with a net loss of jobs over 8 years all while turning the largest surplus of all times into the largest deficit of all times and leaving office with the worst economy since the depressions.
I'm a conservative but I think polling is very often extremely accurate. But this is in the context of the sample. That is where most problems in polls can be found. A sample that improperly weights one group over another is still accurate for THAT sample, but it isn't indicative of how the general population will respond. Still, I'd prefer we knew more about the polls taken by the candidates themselves. Believe it or not but they are probably among the most accurate of all since it does absolutely no good for a campaign to be on the wrong track with voters because your sample was badly flawed. Most campaigns tell reporters about their findings, but won't release them for publication. Too bad.
I suspect that if we knew about these polls we'd more easily be able to explain what seems like some wild and irrational comments by Mr. Obama's campaign team. Why go out and make all sorts of claims about lies if your campaign is really as far up as you claim? So it comes down to logic and reason. Polls, whether about how the voters like candidates or whether about how many people are now employed, have to be viewed in the context of logic and reason.
So, two simple questions for the majority of leftist posters above. First, does it appear to you that our economy today is so much better than in any recent period of the last 30 years to be producing nearly 900,000 jobs in one month? If you think so, great. Then we shouldn't need all the additional stimulus spending you leftists keep whining about anyhow. If you think not, then you can't credit Mr. Obama, as you are now, with all the progress he claims is his, in which case you should rethink how you vote.
Second, you leftists demand proof that some conspiracy is at work here. Frankly, I don't know what is at work here but I am very sure that our economy hasn't strengthened to the point that over 800k people found work in one month. Still, why do you not present any proof which supports, say from an economics perspective if nothing else, such massive hiring following weaker GDP quarter over quarter, for the last several quarters? In other words, why not make the case, rather than just accept numbers that seem unreasonable, for why those numbers are reasonable?
It is this lack of thinking on the part of the left that I think makes American success more difficult, over time. It would be less important, certainly it would have less impact on the USA, if leftists thought as they do but we had a government truly constrained by the constitution.

While your perception of the GOP is so skewed it's not funny, I notice you never mention democrats in your diatribe. Who was in charge of congress since 2007? This when the largest expenditures in government under the Bush administration occurred. While you blatantly blame the GOP, you close your eyes to the democrats. Somehow you forget about the economic turmoil of 911, the dot.com bubble and other financial disasters that were overcome by the republicans... Democrats won in 06 and we have been going downhill ever since. Put that into your partisan pipe and smoke it.
Charlie it might be helpful to realize the first trillion also was agreed to by Democrat dominated Congress. As far as the wars you forget four of the previous five were started by Democrats. Also you forget the projected budget was 1.2 trillion amounting to $8500.00 per person, what is it four years later? You use good numbers to defend Obama but fail to use his numbers to be critical of him. When you do you will open your mind.
While your perception of the GOP is so skewed it's not funny, I notice you never mention democrats in your diatribe. Who was in charge of congress since 2007?
OK --- name me one single Bill that the democrats passed, that Bush vetoed, that Congress overturned, between 2007 and 2009 caused the the first trillion dollar deficit.
Somehow you forget about the economic turmoil of 911, the dot.com bubble
On -- so now when something happens under a Republican's watch such as 9/11 -- he gets a pass? You seem to forget -- Bush inherited a strong economy. the dot-com bubble passed and it wasn't a financial disaster. It was a bump in the road. The reality is no president since Kennedy had the keys to the White House turned over to him from the former president with the nation in BETTER shape than did George W. Bush and no president since FDR had the keys to the White House turned over to him from the former president with the nation in WORSE than did President Obama. It will take this nation a generation or longer to dig ourselves out of the economic disaster caused by George W. Bush and his Republican controlled Congress.
"If the labor force participation rate was the same today as it was in January 2009, when Obama took office, the unemployment rate would be 11 percent."

The fact is that this sudden "dropping" of unemployment rates is extremely suspicious! I will guarantee that at the next '"revelation" of unemployment rates it will rise to well above 8%! I am sure that when this happens the liberal establishment mass media (or LEMMINGS as I affectionately call them) will ignore the new numbers and trumpet only the numbers that support their Dear Leader's election. How many times did we hear in the last four years how some disappointing economic number was "unexpected"? Then if there was a decent number reported it was knocked down, quietly, in the next week or two! I fully expect that this number will be "restated" to a lower level very soon.
Democrats won in 06 and we have been going downhill ever since. Put that into your partisan pipe and smoke it.
Yet another distorted view of history by a Republican. The election was in 2006 but the Democrats didn't take over Congress until January 2007. The Bush depression started in the spring of 2006. Why do you thinks the Democrats won -- because the economy was in such great shape??
Funny how the Repugs relied on the very same "job reports" when it was hovering around or above 80% and suited their agenda...Now that it's slightly below the 8% mark, they want to cry foul!?!?!? You can't have it both ways "boys".....
Therein lies the problem.
But, if Obama is re-elected you're really going to hear the pigs squeal! It'll make 2000 look like a church quilting bee. Everyone must get out and vote.

On -- so now when something happens under a Republican's watch such as 9/11 -- he gets a pass? What pass? It was a very costly event. It disrupted our economy, played havoc with the stock market... but I can tell you have a convenient memory. You seem to forget -- Bush inherited a strong economy. Created by a republican controlled congress... OH... The GOP is soooo bad! the dot-com bubble passed and it wasn't a financial disaster. Dot.com hurt the economy but you forget about it... like it never happened. It was a bump in the road. The reality is no president since Kennedy had the keys to the White House turned over to him from the former president with the nation in BETTER shape than did George W. Bush and no president since FDR had the keys to the White House turned over to him from the former president with the nation in WORSE than did President Obama. While you conveniently forget that 17 months after democrats took over Congress, everything went to hell. I guess the democrats just couldn't keep it under control, could they?
It will take this nation a generation or longer to dig ourselves out of the economic disaster caused by George W. Bush and his Republican controlled Congress.
Still blaming Bush... 4 years later... Totally forgetting the make up of congress during the last 2 years of his term... totally forgetting it was a republican congress that gave Bill Clinton the surplus that wasn't really a surplus at all... it just looked good on paper.
It seems that skewing information is in your forte... why don't you go and become one of Obama's press agents... you'd do well there.
The bottom line to all this is 21st century Republicans hate good news and love bad news. It's been going on since 2009. An American wins the Noble Peach Prize. That's a feather in the cap not only for the person that wins it but for the nation that wins it. Yet Republican whined and bitched about it. America doesn't get the Olympics – a chance to spotlight the US to the rest of the world. How did Republicans respond after Brazill got the Olympics --- they cheered. GM makes a profit. That's good for all Americans. In the 1950s, the Secretary of commerce said "What's good for GM is good for the America." But 21st century Republicans were angry whne GM made a profit. They wanted GM to go broke. Gasoline prices go up and Republicans cheer. Gasoline prices drop and Republicans hate it. The unemployment rate goes up – Republicans cheer. It goes down – they bitch about it. Back in the 60s, Republican Spiro Agnew said, "In the United States today; we have more than our share of the nattering nabobs of negativism." That's what the 21st century Republican Party has become – a collection of nattering nabobs of negativism
Freshie
Obama NEVER got behind it until This year. He should have pushed it then. Not 3 years later like he is now.
Still blaming Bush... 4 years later.
You Republicans have a very short memory. From 1976 to 1992 you whined and cried, moan and groaned and complained and complained more and bitched, carried on and on and blamed President Carter of everything wrong in the entire universe. Then from 1992 to 2008 you whined and cried, moan and groaned and complained and complained more and bitched, carried on and on and blamed President Clinton for everything that was wrong in the entire universe. So – using the standard you set – the left has another 29 years to blame Bush for everything just to pull even with you.

There is no bottom line Charlie. This is your opinion and it differs from the facts I showed you. While you may not like facts because they distort your version of things, facts rule the day every time. Your opinion of republicans and/or conservatives is based on skewed views, and they don't hold any water... You stand there blaming republicans for all the ills in the world while completely ignoring anything the democrats have done. This skewed view of the world only aids the divisions in this nation. I hope you are very happy to present your contribution.
Now let me lick my pencil, 11% minus 7.8% is equal to, um, 3.2%. Quite a few have given up haven't they?
Maybe, they're doing as Droopy said, "If you can't beat them, join them." Poverty for all, the socialists dream.
Romney should be glad the unemployment rate is 7.8 %, But this Dirtbag wants us to fail so he gets elected, this Clown is beyond a Loser. This is why President OBAMA is still ahead in the polls, America doesn't like Phonies Mr. Romney so get the hell out and don't let the door hit you in the A$$ on the way out !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Charlie - parsing my statements is the exact same thing as lying.
You are both wrong. The first trillion-plus dollar deficit didn't occur under Mr. Bush with a Democrat House approving of it. It came under Mr. Obama with both houses of Congress approving of it. I know, trust me, that most people think it came under Bush, and there is good reason to make this case. It just isn't so. Why?
Well, much of that last FY's deficit was TARP spending. TARP, which I think hurt us more than helped us (that is another debate) was mostly, but not completely, repaid. Those repayments should be credited againt the debt that was incurred to generate them. Hence the deficit in FY 2008-2009, absent the Stimulus bill, would be around $450 to $500 bn less than people now claim it was. It was only after the stimulus money was included, therefore, that the deficit for that FY surpassed $1 trillion. It was Mr. Obama and the Dem Congress that did this, not Mr. Bush.
And what is most interesting about the stimulus is that it was passed and began to be spent AFTER the recession was declared over. No one then thought it was over, just as many people today think we remain in recession. In a real sense we do. GDP growth rates are lower than the rate of increase in prices (save housing), and so we have, for all practical purposes, net negative real GDP growth. Not just the last quarter either. For several quarters. Which is why the idea that with real (as opposed to nominal) negative growth rates it is unlikely that the economy actually fueled the hiring of nearly 900,000 people in just the last month alone.
No, no, no... I just pasted all that hoo ha into Word and it told me. I have a little bit more of a life than that- not much but still...
Patriotic American... maybe you should take the same advice as you vomit all over these boards.
I suppose you can be suspicious of the numbers all you want. But suspicions aren't worth much with out any kind of evidence of which there is none. And really no reason to be suspicious when it comes right down to it. Seems no stooping is too low to stoop to try and redirect attention away from Romney's lack of a plan.
He didn't veto any of them... but do you remember why? They threatened to remove the funding for the troops... In effect they blackmailed him.
Oh -- I see how it works. If the Democrats control Congress and they go against a Republican president -- that's black-male. But if a Republican Congress has a record number of filibusterer, votes against a bill even one of them sponsored as soon as they find out the presidents favors it, says no to just about everything just about all the time, that shows a lack of leadership by the president.
According to obama, “The future must not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam.”

Reckon who he thinks that it should belong to?
Jefferson Yes, Hamilton No
Bain Capital is run by Levine these days, not Romney. Levine is an Obama bundler.
Gravis may still be a republican poller, but I have not evidence that is true. I had to reload my acrobat reader to read the Gravis report today. Gravis is using about an average of 2004 & 2008. That is what the polling companies SHOULD be doing. Here is the party affiliation nuts and bolts
2004 Dem 29% Rep 38% Other 33%
2008 Dem 30% Rep 31% other 39%
Ave. Dem 29.5% Rep 34.5% Other 36%
Gravis Dem 28% Rep 32% Other 40% Results Obama 46 - Romney 49 +3
Diff Dem -1.5 Rep -2.5 Other 40% Adusted Results Obama 47.5 Romney 51.5 +4
Let's look at Public Policy Polling, an outrightly Democat Polling company from 9-23
PPP (D) Dem 34% Rep 34% Ind 31% Results Obama 51 - Romney 45
diff/Ave Dem +4.5 Rep -.5 Ind -5 Adjusted Results would be Obama 46.5 Romney 45.5 Obama+1
diff/2008 Dem +4 Rep +3 Ind -8 Adjusted Results would be Obama 47 Romney 43 Obama +4
diff/2004 Dem +5 Rep -4 Ind -2 Adjusted Results would be Obama 46 Romney 47 Romney +1
Given Democratic Registrations were Down 10 times more than Republican Registrations, There is no reason to use an increase in democrats in a poll for a realistic count. Add to that the majority of polls have shown that democrat's energy isn't near as high this year as it was in 2008.
The Media Polls clearly are not real. They are at best an optomistic prograstication, and at worse tampering with the election process by playing with people's emotions.
There is no bottom line Charlie.
No Brianb -- you just can't admit to the facts. Since 2009, if it's good for the US, Republicans find a way to whine and complain about it. You're telling me Republicans didn't cheer when the US didn't git the Olympics? Rush the junkie was so excited at the announcement that Brazil won I thought he was gong to have a stroke.
@Mike in SA "The economy tanked in 2007-2008 because of the housing market collapse not "two tax cuts to the wealthy, 2 unfunded and unwanted wars, unfunded prescription benefits program of 2004, and on and on"...or haven't you heard."
Why were people unable to repay all those "toxic" loans in the first place? Maybe had their pay went up at the SAME rate as their bosses did they could have paid off those loans, but that is not what they wanted. They wanted black people to stay in the ghettos, not to move in next door to them. Why did so many jobs get shipped/moved overseas and what did effect did that have on a person ability to pay back a loan? Why stop at the housing things and not bring up Nafta, Gafta, or the Glass Steagall act? What effect did those have?
What effect did "two tax cuts to the wealthy, 2 unfunded and unwanted wars, unfunded prescription benefits program of 2004, and on and on" have on the debt that you all love to cry about? Did it add or subtract from it? Therefore, WTF effect did it have again? If you need a calculator for the answer...
Why do people love to see other people fail? Does it get people off or what? Why do people hate Americans? Why do people hate old people, poor people, and those who might be less fortunate then they are. Maybe they were blessed with different gifts then you. Why does everyone have to be exactly like you? (Does it scare you?) Why can you not be smarter like me for example? That sounds like a chit thing to say to someone huh? That is how you sound when you cry about people "working hard", that "I am so much better then you are".
Is it better or worse to be part of a society? Do you or can you know everything that might threaten you or put your life in danger? Why do you insist on using/preying on society if it is a benefit to you? Sure it is easy to prey on society, it is easy money. The problem is you have preyed to much and you are lacking food/starting to go hungry. There are too many predators versus the sheep. If you do not take care of the sheep then you cannot eat. How about making a living by not being a predator and preying on your fellow humans? Why do you need workers again? Don't want to, or are you to good to do it yourself?
REPUBLICONS...THE PARTY OF UNICORNS, SASQUATCH, UFO'S, AND LOCH NESS MONSTER!
When repubs found out the nation was doing better they booed as Paul Ryan pledged to obstruct and vote against every bill that would make president Obama a one term president 4 years later from that night.
Repubs call an emergency meeting to deny the facts, then create a bill that says Santa Claus, The Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy are real!
Vote Obama/Biden and Team America 2012...REAL Americans for REAL Americans!!!!!
GEE, if there was not so many WANT ad's I'd tend to question the poll but no matter how much the REPUBLICANS attempt to hold back our country it keeps moving FORWARD, guess OBAMA picked the right slogan for his campaign ..... LOL NOW LET"s KEEP IT MOVING FORWARD >>>>>> OBAMA 2012 <<<<<<
"On Friday, Romney refrained from discrediting the government data. But plenty of conservatives did that work for him.
Conn Carroll, an editorial writer at the Washington Examiner, tweeted: "I don't think BLS cooked numbers. I think a bunch of Dems lied about getting jobs. That would have same effect."
http://www.cbs42.com/content/localnews/story/Officials-reject-conspiracies-on-unemployment-rate/gL7F10i_n0SGCoiFegFglw.cspx
Some democrats lying about getting jobs?
Come on now, you don't really think the democrats are smart enough to figure that out, do you?
Gallop research records national unemployment at 7.9% seasonally un - adjusted and 8.1% seasonally adjusted.
The only man who is running campaign on "promises" is Mr. Obama. Romney talks facts.
Sure, facts do tend to change, as in new arrive, some become dated. Mr. Obama supporters attempts to demand some sort of "perfect", "unchangeable" political policies is not the worst we can expect.
Rich
The first trillion dollar deficit actually belongs MOSTLY to Obama. First Bush submitted a $3.1 Billion dollar Budget to Congress which voted it down. The congress built it's own budget based somewhat on Bush's, but with additional spending. Bush Vetoed the budget. Next Congress sent Bush a continuing resolution for 800 Billion to cover everything for 6 months and not including that did not include Military spending. Bush signed that. Congress then sent a full year military spending bill of $600 Billion to Bush who signed that too. The TARP fund were approved in October, and the Bush adminstration saw fit to use only $300 Billion of it. Add up what Bush approved by doubling the domestic portion, and you will find that Bush would have spent maybe 2.7 Trillion. Actual spending ended up at $3.5 Trillion.
Why? The Democratic congress Added $50 Billion of the $150 Billin added to Tarp for 2009, Obama added about $150 billion of the 800 Billion Stimulus Bill, Obama added $50 Billion in other spending vetoed by Bush, and signed the final Continuing Resolution Which for 6 months was 1.2 Trillion or $400 Billion more than Bush would have approved.
The Deficit was 1.4 Trillion, of which Obama and the Democrats and Obama added $750 Billion to.
ROMNEY THE FLIP FLOPPING LIAR WILL GET TO HAVE TWO PODIUMS NEXT DEBATE, ONE WHEN HE IS FOR AND ONE WHEN HE IS AGAINST THE ISSUE!
Romney doesn't know who he is. His staff says he is not who or what Romney said he was for. They simply don't know what plan is his plan anymore.
So repubs don't know, what they don't know. And..they admit they don't know , what they don't know, that they don't know. How can they don't know, what they don't know about what they don't know? We do know that they don't know, what they don't know. But they don't care that we all know, that they don't know, that they don't know. If repubs did know, what they don't know, about what they don't know, we would know what they don't know about what they don't know about.

All this vitriol about Romney but you can't even defend Obama one bit... nor can you state for certainty what his plan is... Hypocrite!
Swagganaut-A little rebellion now and then ... is a medicine for the sound health of government. From time to time the Tree of Liberty must be refreshed with the blood of tyrants and patriots.
--Thomas Jefferson
What this says is that if the Republicans try to steal another election they should face rebellion. I have to agree with you there. In the past we have been far too accepting of tyrants.
And the partisan bickering continues, democrats are god and republicans are satan and vice versa. No one is going to change anyone's minds on this board, frankly, the minds were made up long time ago. If you want more of the same, well, vote for Obama. If you want the possibility of improvement, vote for Romney. I know who I'm voting for, I've registered and am prepared one way or the other for whoever wins.
If Obama does win, I have a certain set of things I'm doing and will proceed with them. On the other hand, if Romney wins and the economy turns around, then a whole nother set of things will go into action.
One thing I do believe is that if Obama wins, the country will spiral deeper into debt. Four years have seen no real improvement and government 'channeling' business in the direction it (Obama) wants it to go will see more businesses throw in the towel and unemployment (despite the magic numbering system) will become worse.
DB-The Deficit was 1.4 Trillion, of which Obama and the Democrats and Obama added $750 Billion to
What you are saying here is that over a Trillion in that budget was Bush's. So that means 65+ of that deficit belongs to Bush not Obama.
Welp, I went and had dinner, and took a nap, and still......no takers
211,000 people left the workforce entirely over the past month. They no longer count for compiling the U-3 statistic. So, twice as many people stopped looking for jobs as found jobs, and that’s supposed to be good news. Ok, if you say so?
boltonbill
Kind of like blaming the House of Representatives for everything bad that happens, and praise for O'bama if anything good happens? That kettle looks black as night!
brian...,,,,,.guess you missed the debate....Obama stuck to giving facts .......while Romney lied and flip flopped.....You are on here everday Brian to know the terms Romney the etch a sketch, flip flopper etc.....Now you pretend President Obama does not have a plan. How about the President Obama plan where they took all the money from healthcare that was waste and fraud and from streamlining and put it right back into more and longer healthcare for people. Romney and Ryan liked that money source so much they took out that same savings...and GAVE IT TO THEMSELVES IN TAX BREAKS FOR THE RICH!!!!!! ROMNEY RYAN THE THIEF BROTHERS!!! STEAL FROM HEALTHCARE AND GIVE IT TO THE GREEDY RICH!!!
ROMNEY FOREIGN POLICY EXPERIENCE: I can see France from my offshore accounts.
RYAN FOREIGN POLICY EXPERIENCE: I can see Milwaukee from my window.
Kornfed, If you would have read my posts to Ozzy you would know how that is possible. You didn't read the whole article or you read it on FOX, which left out a bunch of facts, which they so often do when they want to be "Fair and Balanced!' LOL The 114,000 jobs that were created had an adjustment upwards for the months of July, Aug. and Sept. of 300,000 more jobs. You simply add them together and get 414,000 jobs which translates into a .3% drop in unemployment.
Now before you start whining I want you to know I felt the same way when the June, May and April numbers were adjusted downward 160,000, but I didn't whine about it like you guys here are with your right wing republican extremists views. You just can't believe you've been lied to by Fox and Mitt+ Lying Ryan as we call him back in Janesville. You have!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It doesn't really matter; they are predicting that the unemployment numbers will be back to 8%+ tow days before the election, what will Obamabots do then, keep squealing, you sound like Obama did Wednesday night, that by the way was embarrassing, I can;t stand Obama, but I almost felt sorry for him, he was getting schooled by a businessman and get took out back t the woodshed for a good ole' school ass whoopin'!
I just goes to show you that without his tele-prompter he's not worth the toilet paper that stuck to the bottom of his shoe when walked out on stage, the guy's a bum and it's time to go. Obama brought a knife into a gun fight, he got punked! It was actually funny to watch!
But fear not my fellow Americans, basketball season is coming up here and he'll jump on Air Force One a t $186,000 per hour on our dime to catch a game.
Oh I read this in many publications. Now account for the population growth of 100,000 new employable people that enter the work force every month. Doesnt look right anymore now does it? Oddly enough, the news is bad considering the revisions, for we are adding jobs at a slower rate...the trend of new job growth is moving downward.
The left wing nuts believe anything their lyin sack of $hit pres tells them, How you guys feeling about the prices of gasoline these days or the price of food or anything else insane usama has added to your daily cost. hope he can figure out a cost of living for the welfare group. insanes foreign policy experience is great for you left wingers, your pres backs the muslims against the americans. Funny how he said he would stop subsidies to big oil and banks, guess what, he hasn't as of yet. This pres is a boring lazy a$$ failure. Couldn't even debate romney cause he didn't want to have his sheep catch him in more lies and make him look worse, so he just checked his travel plans to kenya for his homecoming
Does Obama even have any foreign policy experience, other than flying Michelle and Oprah to see if they could land the Olympics in Chicago? Another epic failure there too, he got his ass laughed at and send packing. He mentioned to Putan, that give me time, if I get a 2nd term I will have more flexibility. Flexibility to do what exactly?
However, Romney should have asked him about his 'promise' when he was running for President; he said that he couldn't make a difference he would be a 1 term President ...... I guess different meaning screwing things worse than ever and it's time to move 'Forward'; like towards the door!
I can't wait for Ryan to ruin Biden, if Obama was smart he would have Biden call in sick and that one..... Biden will lose his cool and get schooled by Ryan, can wait!

Congress writes the spending, not the president. The president proposes a budget and advises congress on what he would like to do. Congress gives him what they wish to.
And the democrats in the senate have produced nada, zip and zero for a budget the ENTIRE TIME that Obama has been in office. Interesting little factoid there.
Once again, the Republicans cannot seem to step off the crazy train. In a nutshell, Republicans = lie, cheat, steal, suppress.
Personally, I don't like Simpson Bowles, and I'm not sure the President liked it either. For one thing, it cuts rates; call me a tax and spend liberal all you want, but I think rates are TOO low, especially on the top bracket. And it would shrink the bracket system by 50%, increasing the number of people per bracket and reducing any possibility of a major tax being applied on those making above, let's say, $1 million. Obama wanted to RAISE tax rates on the wealthy, not cut them. Secondly, Simpson-Bowles wasn't very popular even then. 7 Republicans and Democrats out of 18 voted against it, and neither party embraced the concept of either raising revenues or cutting entitlements. Having Obama sign up on it would only be symbolic, because neither party would shell out for it. The only reason why it is popular now is because those conservative idiots in Congress blocked the deficit deals that were hastily made before the debt ceiling crisis, and with the fiscal cliff coming they are desperate to do something to save themselves before the election. If you want serious deficit reduction, let the fiscal cliff happen; it will reduce the deficit by well over $6 trillion, and it will buy us time to deal with entitlements.
OBAMA BIDEN 2012
So, why weren't the republicons suspicious of the polling numbers when they said unemployment was ABOVE 8%? Wasn't that just a month ago? No wonder republicons support Romney. They flip flop as much as he does!
Being deliberately obtuse because you support Obama still doesn't change the fact that those numbers, coming after Obama's pitiful debate performance, are remarkably coincidental.
so the party of doom and gloom strike again
I absolutely believe in science and in science a discovery doesn't stand alone. It is only considered valid if it is supported by other known facts.
As I stated earlier GDP growth doesn't support the ridiculous and fantastical 873,00 newly employed number. The 114,000 jobs created doesn't support the ridiculous and fantastical 873,00 newly employed number. The ADP 169,000 jobs created doesn't support the ridiculous and fantastical 873,00 newly employed number. The factory new orders plunge of -5.2% doesn't support the ridiculous and fantastical 873,00 newly employed number. The -13. 2% off-the-cliff dive of durable goods orders doesn't support the ridiculous and fantastical 873,00 newly employed number. In fact while all of these numbers support the common conclusion that the economy is severely suffering, they also support the expectation that the newly employed number would be flat or negative, not be the highest since 1983 when GDP growth was at 7%.
To believe this number is in any way valid in the face of all the other individual and cumulative known facts has nothing to do with you being scientific and it is akin to believing leprechauns live under your bed on a unicorn ranch.

.I AM BARACK OBAMA AND I SUCK!!!
PAID FOR BY TAXPAYERS!!!
Ticked off, you must really have a boring life if you took time to post that. Also, these Repugs not realize how incredibly desperate this makes them look? Instead of crying about the polls being biased and obsessing over the jobs report being bogus, why don't you admit it that you are losing and the reason you are losing is that most people do not buy into your extremist right-wing nutcase ideas? That is the reason you are behind in the polls - no one wants the Tea Klux Klan running the nation. I suppose when your favorite sports teams lose it was because the referees were biased or the commentators were against you. Grow up take responsibility for your own actions and admit that the reason you are losing is YOUR FAULT. Your supposed to be the party of "personal responsibility" well, take some personal responsibility and own the fact that you lost in 2008 and you are losing now, and in all likihood you will lose on November 6. And if President Obama sucks so badly, Ticked Off and company, then the past two Presidential candidates that you've offered up must really suck. He beat one of them decisively 4 years ago and he's ahead of the other one now. The polls are not fixed, you're just losing. Deal with it.
Why can't those of you on the Left posting here have a serious conversation rather than name calling? I don't believe in fudging the numbers.........but why do you choose to look at one number and dance in the streets? Do you truly believe the economy is better off? Don't come back with a Romney post or change the topic.......talk to me about the 456,000 people who quit looking for work, the fact that most of the jobs were part-time or seasonal and that Barack put a halt to thousands of pink slips being sent to Government Contractors to massage the numbers. These contractors are losing their jobs. Look at the whole picture and not some .3 percent decline.
In addition, you spew the same ol "Romney lies" routine. Why not scrutinize BO's performance the way you do Romney? Did he close Gitmo as promised? Did he reduce unemployment as promised? He promised 400,000 new construction jobs......1,000,000 lost to date. For those of you that think Obamacare is the cats meow......do you truly understand all the taxes imbedded in that baby? Well.....you are soon going to find out! Do you understand that Obamacare will be the largest tax increase on the lower and middle class in history?
No you don't.......you treat this like a football game. Won't it be nice if Barack wins for you to be dancing in the street.....for you to make Rombot posts.......won't that make you feel sooooo good. Social issues are one thing......but if you are voting for a better economy.......you won't be dancing if Obama wins and two days later you get your pink slip or your unemployment runs out! This guy hasn't even presented a budget that his OWN party will pass. You all claim he inherited such an economic mess. Silly me......why would we need a budget to get out of debt!! Silly me.
Lastly, you were all up in arms that GW didn't jump off that school chair in .34 seconds when he first learned of the 9/11 attacks. Welllll.......the current clown ignored 10+ requests for additional security before the Mideast attacks, he skips security briefings, he flew to Vegas hours after the attacks and he continued to blame it on the video. What a disgrace.
Let's see now.... the Republicans have the Birthers, the Pollers and now the Jobber's. The Odd thing is, the only thing they believe are the lies that they tell themselves.
Ticked off, you must be a real fan of OUR president....Your art work shows it...NO MATTER WHAT YOU SAY!!!! I notice you don't have any "fancy" artwork of your buddy Mitt.....
The point that got me was when Romney said that The President "spent 80-90 billion dollars on green companies, all of which filed for bankruptcy (Solyndra, et al) AND they were staffed or owned by prior contributors to Obama campaigns." And the president of the United States didn't respond to that accusation! He just looked down on his podium. If Mitt was lying so much, why the F didn't the Pres call him out on it????
... PROOF ... a lot of people are saying there is no PROOF the unemployment number was juiced ... I am sorry but there is ... to move the unemployment rate from 8.1 to 7.8 Obama needed to create about 850,000 jobs not the pathetic 114,000 jobs. We have about 185,000,000 Americans working, for the unemployment number to move by 3 tenths of a % ( .003 X 185,000,000 = 555,000 jobs + 275,000 new people to the work force = 830,000 jobs. Of course if your Obama and have no problem lying to the American people you just stop counting about 700,000 people. You just claim they're not looking anymore. Sorry off to the ovens for you, it's only fair, some people have to step aside so others can step up.
Seig Hiel Der Furher Obama
No beelzebubb, all Mr. Obama needed is to find employment for 1/2 a million people, where they were collecting unemployment benefits. An accurate count still counts for something in America.
Are those jobs sustainable? Are those jobs result of economy improvement? This is not such a difficult question to answer, if you want to.
Looking at this forum I get the impression that no supporter of Mr. Obama seems to even wants to look upon this burning question. And why should they? Their champion mustered to watch his socks for 90 minutes last Wednesday and his poll numbers look as rosy as ever.
However, those poisonous words you should shovel back up... The question is not about "who" will be standing in that place 4 years down the road. It's about substance. And We don't need here people poisoning the well. Particularly when someone has got to go down and work on the wall reinforcements.
'Accuracy' is really not the right word to use in regards to polling. The true test of a poll is its scientific validity.
A poll is by definition a sample, with a focus on neutrality and methodology. Some polls are considered more reliable than others. Rasmussen, for example, is one of the least reliable polling organizations. The true test of a political poll is whether it predicts the outcome of an election, and that can only be assessed after the election.
The value of a political poll is in large part its measure of opinion trends. Each polling organization shows 'accurate' changes in opinion in a population if they continue to use the same methodology to poll from the same sample.
To all my fellow 'libbies' (we have been called much worse) we must remember that only one poll counts in the end: the poll that is taken on November 6.
Please get your feet on the ground and your fingers on the dial to re-elect President Obama! This is our country! Let's let a good man continue the progress he has made! Let's keep that lying vulture Romney out of the White House! The Presidency of The United States of America is not for sale!
OBAMA/BIDEN NOVEMBER 6 (OR EARLIER IF YOUR STATE HAS EARLY VOTING)
Charlie - parsing my statements is the exact same thing as lying.
Now Kornfed,
Now account for the huge increase in public workers being driven out of their jobs by Walker in Wisconsin and the same thing happening in Florida, Missouri, Arizona etc and I think you see the early retirements account for the number you are talking about. You always have excuses! Are you part f the Reichwing of the republican party

Rich-281385 -- Rasmussen is the most reliable poll? Where did you get this, FAUX Noise? Quinnipiac has been most predictive, and Pew is also more respected in comparison. Regardless, even Rasmussen has shown President Obama in the lead. As we keep saying, you can have your own opinions but not your own facts.
Aggie-345886 -- The small improvement in jobs including adjustments to the previous months, which historically improves at this time of year, and are NEVER known to be manipulated as this is not possible, is a nontroversy that sadly has become yet more red meat for rightwingers thrown to them by former CEO's of GE, or Donald Trump who is still trying to sell his "birther" snake oil, or others who know better or should know better. If you aren't deeply embarrassed by Todd Akins QUACKERY about women and "forcible" rape, you should be. Stop with the Glenn Beck guilt-by-association chalkboard as your method of deduction.
Arthur66 -- Your lack of historical accuracy indicates you probably can't remember what you had for breakfast, or worse that you spin it to be a 7-course meal. Turn off FAUX Noise and watch Rachel Maddow, who provides history in many of her news segments, and also Chris Hayes weekend shows are excellent, though it has a lot of big words.
Oh geez, now I just don't know who to believe because that's exactly what the right says about the left. What do you say to those people who maintain that the mainstream media has always leaned favorable towards obama and never much questioned any of his actions??
Tired-2176559 -- Thank you for bringing up the matter of wages. Every problem Romney and Republicans point to boils down to stagnant/decreasing wages.
The housing industry won't improve, not because of Dodd-Frank or that lenders aren't lending, but because the mortgage payment should not exceed 25% of a person's income. The economy will not take off, particularly the housing industry, until the middle class and upward mobility into the middle class is restored.
Romney/Ryan not only completely LACK a plan to grow the middle class, their plan would accelerate the gap between the rich and poor. The idea of corporate welfare and tax breaks for the rich as the way to grow the economy (thus "revenue neutral") is QUACKERY. This is Reagan's supply-side voodoo economics with a different name, and it is not only unfair but outright destructive. Look at the Republican jagoffs in Congress who were so intent on protecting goodies for the wealthy that they extended unemployment benefits before they would give up the Bush tax breaks for the rich.
Romney/Ryan the 21st Century Robber Barons -- they aren't in it for you (nor McConnell, Boehner, Cantor, DeMint, and the rest of the bought-and-paid-for Republicans in Congress).
On what planet have you been living........they ALL are in it for themselves AND they are ALL rich - the left side of the chamber more so than the right side. And if you think obama is any different....well then, you're just not as smart as you think you are. OR maybe you're just gullible enough to swallow their lies, too!
According to Nate Silver at FiveThirtyEight.com, Rasmussen consistently leans Republican.
Calculating 'House Effects' of Polling Firms
Izzy - Sheldon Adelson has given $70 MILLION to Romney's campaign. $70 million. So far.
The Koch brothers have contributed hundreds of millions more.
And Karl Rove is the money-master.
Goldman Sachs is giving to the GOP 70% to 30% for the Dems.
Mitt Romney has hundreds of millions of $$ of his own stashed with Goldman Sachs.
Is that REALLY whose side you want to vote on?
Think about it.
RealAmericansFirst
Hmmmm,
According to Federal Election Commission figures compiled by the Center for Responsive Politics, Goldman Sachs' political action committee and individual contributors who listed the company as their employer donated $994,795 during 2007 and 2008 to Obama's presidential campaign, the second-highest contribution from a company PAC and company employees.
Only the PAC and employees of the University of California, which donated more than $1.5 million, topped Goldman Sachs.
Goldman Sachs contributions to the Obama campaign were more than four times larger than the $230,095 in donations to Sen. John McCain's presidential campaign.
http://articles.cnn.com/2010-04-20/politics/obama.goldman.donations_1_obama-campaign-presidential-campaign-federal-election-commission-figures?_s=PM:POLITICS
So, it was OK in 2007-2008 but not when it's reversed, right?
Hypocrite.
ROMNEY/RYAN 2012 FOR REAL AMERICANS©
Whether the 7.8% unemployment statistic is true or not does not matter. So the President is proud that unemployment is only two percentage points higher than what his administration said that it would be if the stimulus were passed. I would assume that he is also proud that he missed his commitment on the deficit by only about 900 billion dollars. Of course that 900 billion dollars will end up costing the tax payers an estimated 9 trillion dollars before it is all paid back in 180 years but who cares about the tax payers. Congratulations Mr. President!
Yes, Spence,
We would never find ourselves voting for a lying piece of crap like Mitt and his membership in a religious cult that says when in doubt the Book of Mormon comes first!
Izzy,
He's been living on the planet Kolab? The one Romney says exists!
You know we're on our own when God allows this many Obama supporters to show their ignorance by supporting the worst president in modern times.
May God have mercy on our Nation.
"The theory that many polls are under-sampling Republicans (and thus overstating the support for Obama) has become widespread on the right, as many supporters of Mitt Romney asserted this week during rallies before the first presidential debate."
Anyone can check this for themselves. In 2008, when there was a record high percentage of people who identified as Democrats and a record low percentage of people who identified as Republicans, exit polls showed that Democrats outnumbered Republicans by 21%. Many of the pollsters (including NBC) now claim that there are 30% more Democrats than Republicans to 'weight' their polls.
How believable is that?
The most accurate pollster in 2004 & 2008 (Rasmussen) has Romney ahead 49% to 47% for Obama, and Gallup (who had a average Democratic bias of over 3% in 2004 & 2008) has Romney ahead by about 1% among Likely Voters (after they make the switch from Registered Voters).
Unfortunately, an estimated 70% of democrats have been shown to be products of a broken single parent or dysfunctional home as is evidenced in many of these posts. Psychiatrists point out that dysfunction in the home leads to emotional instability, mental illness and almost always gross narcissism.
The net result is a mentally unbalanced and dysfunctional agenda; abortion (killing of a human for convenience rather than being sexually responsible), gay marriage (confusion and perversion they believe must be legalized and normalized), entitlement mentality (the belief that you are owed something), socialism (no father in the home creates the expectation that the government should be the daddy).
Barack Obama was a product of an extremely dysfunctional home.
Can't hide the truth,
Please sight the documentation that proves your 70% claim!!!!!! It doesn't exist, or is a figment of FOX, or it is something from the still existing John Birch Society! What sick minds the right possess!
kkwilsomn,
I think you are wrong as GW the bushacker has been cited as the worst and ranks near the bottom for ALL presidents. Why else would he have been hiding out at his Texas ranch for the last 4 years? I guess he knows that the Hague has an arrest warrant out for him for "War Crimes!
Arthur66
I didn't refule the math; I refuted the source. Big difference. Before you make an attempt to put someone down, make sure you understand the difference between "source" and "math" because your silly reply just made you look ignorant.
I made fun of your claim that: Rasmussen Reports, consistently the most reliable polling service. Nowhere in my post did I even mention the word "math."
Critical thinking is not your strong suit, is it?
ROY WILSON-336103
Rasmussen's polls were off by 5.8% with a bias of 3.9% in favor of the Republican candidates. You would have more credibility, Roy, if you said all polls are biased to a degree. But instead, you pick one that leans (R) to call "most accurate." Coincidence?
I think Jack Welch might be having sex with animals. Something about him just isn't right.
"I have no evidence to prove that. I just raised the question."
Hey, did ya hear that Romney manipulated gas prices in an attempt to win the election? If you get my drift...
Seriously moderator? You delete my post #1.40 (apparently for length), yet others like miklkit's 2464 word pro-Obama post is somehow allowed to remain??? Your blatant partisanship makes both you and this thread you arbitrarily "moderate" (read "censor") a joke. BTW, please direct me to where this phantom restriction to the number of words is detailed in any of your policies.
All the "news" in the world can't change the fact that Obama was a stumbling, mumbling, stuttering, clueless disaster during the debate!!
I know that in the Rove schooling on blogs it says if you repeat something false long enough it can become true.
But not in this case.
After the arse whoopin in the debate, the lefticles will graps anything to try and deflect. Seasonal hiring is going on right now. Those jobs will be gone after Christmas and hopefully Obama with them.
Actually, Knight the whole holiday jobs things is figured into the equation.
At least by Christmas we won't have to deal with Romney.
Hey Hope, your hope was loaded with Lies !!!!!!!!!!!
27 lies in 38 minutes coupled with threats to Lehrer and Big Bird does not make a winner out of a serial liar.
Pundits from both sides of the aisle have lauded Mitt Romney’s strong debate performance, praising his preparedness and ability to challenge President Obama’s policies and accomplishments. But Romney only accomplished this goal by repeatedly misleading viewers. He spoke for 38 minutes of the 90 minute debate and told at least 27 myths:
1) “[G]et us energy independent, North American energy independent. That creates about 4 million jobs”. Romney’s plan for “energy independence” actually relies heavily on a study that assumes the U.S. continues with fuel efficiency standards set by the Obama administration. For instance, he uses Citigroup research based off the assumption that “‘the United States will continue with strict fuel economy standards that will lower its oil demand.” Since he promises to undo the Obama administration’s new fuel efficiency standards, he would cut oil consumption savings of 2 million barrels per day by 2025.
2) “I don’t have a $5 trillion tax cut. I don’t have a tax cut of a scale that you’re talking about.” A Tax Policy Center analysis of Romney’s proposal for a 20 percent across-the-board tax cut in all federal income tax rates, eliminating the Alternative Minimum Tax, eliminating the estate tax and other tax reductions, would reduce federal revenue $480 billion in 2015. This amounts to $5 trillion over the decade.
3) “My view is that we ought to provide tax relief to people in the middle class. But I’m not going to reduce the share of taxes paid by high-income people.” If Romney hopes to provide tax relief to the middle class, then his $5 trillion tax cut would add to the deficit. There are not enough deductions in the tax code that primarily benefit rich people to make his math work.
4) “My — my number-one principal is, there will be no tax cut that adds to the deficit. I want to underline that: no tax cut that adds to the deficit.” As the Tax Policy Center concluded, Romney’s plan can’t both exempt middle class families from tax cuts and remain revenue neutral. “He’s promised all these things and he can’t do them all. In order for him to cover the cost of his tax cut without adding to the deficit, he’d have to find a way to raise taxes on middle income people or people making less than $200,000 a year,” the Center found.
5) “I will not under any circumstances raise taxes on middle-income families. I will lower taxes on middle-income families. Now, you cite a study. There are six other studies that looked at the study you describe and say it’s completely wrong.” The studies Romney cites actually further prove that Romney would, in fact, have to raise taxes on the middle class if he were to keep his promise not to lose revenue with his tax rate reduction.
6) “I saw a study that came out today that said you’re going to raise taxes by $3,000 to $4,000 on middle-income families.” Romney is pointing to this study from the American Enterprise Institute. It actually found that rather than raise taxes to pay down the debt, the Obama administration’s policies — those contained directly in his budget — would reduce the share of taxes that go toward servicing the debt by $1,289.89 per taxpayer in the $100,000 to $200,000 range.
7) “And the reason is because small business pays that individual rate; 54 percent of America’s workers work in businesses that are taxed not at the corporate tax rate, but at the individual tax rate….97 percent of the businesses are not — not taxed at the 35 percent tax rate, they’re taxed at a lower rate. But those businesses that are in the last 3 percent of businesses happen to employ half — half of all the people who work in small business.” Far less than half of the people affected by the expiration of the upper income tax cuts get any of their income at all from a small businesses. And those people could very well be receiving speaking fees or book royalties, which qualify as “small business income” but don’t have a direct impact on job creation. It’s actually hard to find a small business who think that they will be hurt if the marginal tax rate on income earned above $250,000 per year is increased.
8) “Mr. President, all of the increase in natural gas and oil has happened on private land, not on government land. On government land, your administration has cut the number of permits and licenses in half.” Oil production from federal lands is higher, not lower: Production from federal lands is up slightly in 2011 when compared to 2007. And the oil and gas industry is sitting on 7,000 approved permits to drill, that it hasn’t begun exploring or developing.
9) “The president’s put it in place as much public debt — almost as much debt held by the public as all prior presidents combined.” This is not even close to being true. When Obama took office, the national debt stood at $10.626 trillion. Now the national debt is over $16 trillion. That $5.374 trillion increase is nowhere near as much debt as all the other presidents combined.
10) “That’s why the National Federation of Independent Businesses said your plan will kill 700,000 jobs. I don’t want to kill jobs in this environment.” That study, produced by a right-wing advocacy organization, doesn’t analyze what Obama has actually proposed.
11) “What we do have right now is a setting where I’d like to bring money from overseas back to this country.” Romney’s plan to shift the country to a territorial tax system would allow corporations to do business and make profits overseas without ever being taxed on it in the United States. This encourages American companies to invest abroad and could cost the country up to 800,000 jobs.
12) “I would like to take the Medicaid dollars that go to states and say to a state, you’re going to get what you got last year, plus inflation, plus 1 percent, and then you’re going to manage your care for your poor in the way you think best.” Sending federal Medicaid funding to the states in the form of a block grant woud significantly reduce federal spending for Medicaid because the grant would not keep up with projected health care costs. A CBO estimate of a very similar proposal from Paul Ryan found that federal spending would be “35 percent lower in 2022 and 49 percent lower in 2030 than current projected federal spending” and as a result “states would face significant challenges in achieving sufficient cost savings through efficiencies to mitigate the loss of federal funding.” “To maintain current service levels in the Medicaid program, states would probably need to consider additional changes, such as reducing their spending on other programs or raising additional revenues,” the CBO found.
13) “I want to take that $716 billion you’ve cut and put it back into Medicare…. But the idea of cutting $716 billion from Medicare to be able to balance the additional cost of Obamacare is, in my opinion, a mistake. There’s that number again. Romney is claiming that Obamacare siphons off $716 billion from Medicare, to the detriment of beneficiaries. In actuality, that money is saved primarily through reducing over-payments to insurance companies under Medicare Advantage, not payments to beneficiaries. Paul Ryan’s budget plan keeps those same cuts, but directs them toward tax cuts for the rich and deficit reduction.
14) “What I support is no change for current retirees and near-retirees to Medicare.” Here is how Romney’s Medicare plan will affect current seniors: 1) by repealing Obamacare, the 16 million seniors receiving preventive benefits without deductibles or co-pays and are saving $3.9 billion on prescription drugs will see a cost increase, 2) “premium support” will increase premiums for existing beneficiaries as private insurers lure healthier seniors out of the traditional Medicare program, 3) Romney/Ryan would also lower Medicaid spending significantly beginning next year, shifting federal spending to states and beneficiaries, and increasing costs for the 9 million Medicare recipients who are dependent on Medicaid.
15) “Number two is for people coming along that are young, what I do to make sure that we can keep Medicare in place for them is to allow them either to choose the current Medicare program or a private plan. Their choice. They get to choose — and they’ll have at least two plans that will be entirely at no cost to them.” The Medicare program changes for everyone, even people who choose to remain in the traditional fee-for-service. Rather than relying on a guaranteed benefit, all beneficiaries will receive a premium support credit of $7,500 on average in 2023 to purchase coverage in traditional Medicare or private insurance. But that amount will only grow at a rate of GDP plus 1.5 percentage points and will not keep up with health care costs. So while the federal government will spend less on the program, seniors will pay more in premiums.
16) “And, by the way the idea came not even from Paul Ryan or — or Senator Wyden, who’s the co-author of the bill with — with Paul Ryan in the Senate, but also it came from Bill — Bill Clinton’s chief of staff.” Romney has rejected the Ryan/Wyden approach — which does not cap the growth of the “premium support” subsidy. Bill Clinton and his commission also voted down these changes to the Medicare program.
17) “Well, I would repeal and replace it. We’re not going to get rid of all regulation. You have to have regulation. And there are some parts of Dodd-Frank that make all the sense in the world.” Romney has previously called for full repeal of Dodd-Frank, a law whose specific purpose is to regulate banks. MF Global’s use of customer funds to pay for its own trading losses is just one bit of proof that the financial industry isn’t responsible enough to protect consumers without regulation.
18) “But I wouldn’t designate five banks as too big to fail and give them a blank check. That’s one of the unintended consequences of Dodd-Frank… We need to get rid of that provision because it’s killing regional and small banks. They’re getting hurt.” The law merely says that the biggest, systemically risky banks need to abide by more stringent regulations. If those banks fail, they will be unwound by a new process in the Dodd-Frank law that protects taxpayers from having to pony up for a bailout.
19) “And, unfortunately, when — when — when you look at Obamacare, the Congressional Budget Office has said it will cost $2,500 a year more than traditional insurance. So it’s adding to cost.” Obamacare will actually provide millions of families with tax credits to make health care more affordable.
20) “[I]t puts in place an unelected board that’s going to tell people ultimately what kind of treatments they can have. I don’t like that idea.” The Board, or IPAB is tasked with making binding recommendations to Congress for lowering health care spending, should Medicare costs exceed a target growth rate. Congress can accept the savings proposal or implement its own ideas through a super majority. The panel’s plan will modify payments to providers but it cannot “include any recommendation to ration health care, raise revenues or Medicare beneficiary premiums…increase Medicare beneficiary cost-sharing (including deductibles, coinsurance, and co- payments), or otherwise restrict benefits or modify eligibility criteria” (Section 3403 of the ACA). Relying on health care experts rather than politicians to control health care costs has previously attracted bipartisan support and even Ryan himself proposed two IPAB-like structures in a 2009 health plan.
21) “Right now, the CBO says up to 20 million people will lose their insurance as Obamacare goes into effect next year. And likewise, a study by McKinsey and Company of American businesses said 30 percent of them are anticipating dropping people from coverage.” The Affordable Care Act would actually expand health care coverage to 30 million Americans, despite Romney fear mongering. According to CBO director Douglas Elmendorf, 3 million or less people would leave employer-sponsored health insurance coverage as a result of the law.
22) “I like the way we did it [health care] in Massachusetts…What were some differences? We didn’t raise taxes.” Romney raised fees, but he can claim that he didn’t increase taxes because the federal government funded almost half of his reforms.
23) “It’s why Republicans said, do not do this, and the Republicans had — had the plan. They put a plan out. They put out a plan, a bipartisan plan. It was swept aside.” The Affordable Care Act incorporates many Republican ideas including the individual mandate, state-based health care exchanges, high-risk insurance pools, and modified provisions that allow insurers to sell policies in multiple states. Republicans never offered a united bipartisan alternative.
24) “Preexisting conditions are covered under my plan.” Only people who are continuously insured would not be discriminated against because they suffer from pre-existing conditions. This protection would not be extended to people who are currently uninsured.
25) “In one year, you provided $90 billion in breaks to the green energy world. Now, I like green energy as well, but that’s about 50 years’ worth of what oil and gas receives.” The $90 billion was given out over several years and included loans, loan guarantees and grants through the American Recovery Act. $23 billion of the $90 billion “went toward “clean coal,” energy-efficiency upgrades, updating the electricity grid and environmental clean-up, largely for old nuclear weapons sites.”
26) “I think about half of [the green firms Obama invested in], of the ones have been invested in have gone out of business. A number of them happened to be owned by people who were contributors to your campaigns.” As of late last year, only “three out of the 26 recipients of 1705 loan guarantees have filed for bankruptcy, with losses estimated at just over $600 million.”
27) “If the president’s reelected you’ll see dramatic cuts to our military.” Romney is referring to the sequester, which his running mate Paul Ryan supported. Obama opposes the military cuts and has asked Congress to formulate a balanced approach that would avoid the trigger.
Update
Romney has now admitted that number 26 was not true.
miklkit, nice post! It is great to see all the lies outlined for everyone to review!
Don't let anyone forget that High Priest Romney refuses to release his taxes! He is hiding a mountain of lies, deceit and corruption in those forms and almost certainly committed fraud as well.
Also, don't forget his "charitable contributions" he keeps bragging about are really tithes to the cult of LDS. I don't call that charity, I call that scary.
My god, your 'facts' are beyond skewed. Let's look at those failed green energy companies, you totally ignore the 500 million loaned to Solyndra and the other numbers are much more than one million, so those numbers are bogus. Obama stated that he would indeed be making defense cuts and....issued an order to defense contractors to hold off on the pink slips until after the election. Your Obamacare numbers are also skewed, the numbers of uninsured would actually be somewhere around three million or so....
Sorry, don't know where you got your 'facts' but perhaps you need to broaden your search engine and include those who aren't being funded by Soros.
The site is Think Progress. I am not allowed to post links.
At Last Night's Debate: Romney Told 27 Myths In 38 Minutes | ThinkProgress
This is the version of the link I can post.
Think Progess? Hmmm, a Soros funded site, why am I not surprised.
Hips don't lie, Mitt you lie.
miklkit
If you need to post the site just remove http:// from the front of the link. If someone wants to go there, they will copy and past the link.
@ hopeisgone:
If your definition of "winning" the debate, is looking more confident, smiling(smirking) more, and being more forceful(bullyish), all the while denying almost everything you've said in the many months leading up to the debate.....
then Romney won.
Why aren't those of you supporting Romney(or just against Obama) not acknowledging all the lies and denials Mitt gave during the debate?
Obama thought Myth was going to defend/explain his prior statements/ideas, and not flat out deny he ever said them.
Will the real Mitt Romney pleass stand up?
That guy facing Obama during the debates, contradicted the words/positions of the other Mitt Romney.
And some of you call that "winning". You sound like Charlie Sheen.
Mitt won't show his taxes because of all the profit he made off of Americans and the economic crash.
He does however "care" for 100% of Americans, even the victims of his self serving enterprise.
Same old B/S about the jobs numbers. Why they look good is because companies are hiring part time seasonal workers. Happens every year folks, so get used to it. Minimum wage jobs without any benefits for a few months if that. When I see companies hiring personnel at decent wages, full benefits and 40hrs a week then I'll believe the numbers. Other than that all the government is doing is COOKING the BOOKS with FUZZY MATH so it looks good for the big O.
The Presidents role is to work for the people and our President has done a great job.
As we all know we are not out of the woods yet but, we are gaining ground.
Obama/Biden Cause they care for the middle class and the poor!!!
I am guessing dick that you also think the government was cooking the books with fuzzy math to make bush look bad with all the job loss numbers at the end of his disastrous presidency.
I think the republicans need to change their icon to the ostrich as it shows the true intelligence of the party willing to hide their heads in the sand to keep from knowing truth.
Now that the conspiracy theory about Holder and fast and furious has been proved to be false, the republicans are off and running to enrage their base over the latest made up conspiracy theory. Then the republicans just don't know why I don't think they are very bright falling for one lie after another.
There is a reason Romney wants to kill Big Bird and world class education for our young children. You have to either be very rich or very dumb to vote for a republican for anything.
VOTE FOR BIG BIRD'S AND OUR CHILDREN'S FUTURE....VOTE FOR A DEMOCRAT 2012

The defunct Solyndra executives STILL held a fundraiser for Obama about a month back and contributed $40,000 of
their ownour taxpayer money to Obama.http://www.politico.com/politico44/2012/07/steve-westly-at-obama-fundraiser-129867.html
Here's another green company that contributed to Obama

and another Fisker - whom Al Gore and other investors contributed to Obama in 2008

Politics unfortunately is about paying back your donors, if you can without getting caught.
@miklkit: thanks for that post 2.5; particularly that detail on #26 regarding the investment in new technology. The absolute nonsense that the GOP and FauxNoise repeat on that subject is hypocritical as they are waving the flag for energy independence.
I'm continually astounded how the far right (not the intelligent GOP mainstream, but the crackpots that have commandeered the steering wheel) put forth these outlandish conspiracy theories and then expect the rest of us to support their candidates. First it was WMD's that had been spirited away in the dead of night from Iraq .... "but we know they were there!" ... then it's Obama is not an American citizen (which they have turned into the most successful GOP jobs program in the last 4 years - it's a cottage industry for many of them) ... followed by: "Congress is full of Communists - or is it Socialists? - wait, no, it's Muslims! ---or maybe it's Klingons ..." ; then Romney is doing poorly the 2012 election because the polls are wrong and there are all these illegal voters (that we haven't found yet --- maybe they are guarding the Iraq WMD's!!!)" .... and now, an independent agency that is reporting numbers in the same way they have for several decades, in the most turbulent economy since the depression, has suddenly, magically skewed public records to benefit Obama. Sure, we'll all believe that, after all, you guys have such a great track record - as soon as we get done applying a fresh coat of SPF 45 to protect ourselves from that nasty non-existent climate change (that your oil company friends are counting on to explore the Artic shelf - how does that work?). What really helps your credibility is pushing these "truths" on a network that repeatedly has called the US moon landing in 1969 a conspiracy and broadcast "Alien Abduction" as a documentary.
As Goerge Wills said, "It looks like Romney won the debate only to lose the aftermath." I assume the inclusion of "math" was intentional.
@Dick,
The BLS employment numbers are "seasonally-adjusted". That means that all farm labor and all seasonal workers (such as Christmas help) are factored OUT of the numbers. They are computed exactly the same way every month for every President.
Anyone who says otherwise is a LIAR!
In the news... "George W. Bush's former deputy press secretary Tony Fratto called Welch out, too, tweeting, "BLS is not manipulating data. Evidence of such would be a scandal of enormous proportions & loss of credibility." - Still not good enough for the GOPers.
Stock market up, S&P at a historical high last month, 401ks recovered and then some - still not good enough.
Real estate stabilized and improving - still not good enough.
Health care passed for the good of US citizens, with all being accountable and responsible - and Mitt bragging about his passing Romneycare proved he cared for people - still not good enough.
Hmmm, wondering - just what would be good enough?
NO GOP votes in 2012.
Miklkit, this does not make Obama look like much of an environmentalist:
To give Obama credit for drilling on government land does not make him look good at all. This is about fracking, a drilling method that is very dangerous and poisonous. If you doubt this, look up the movie "Gasland" by Josh Fox. If Obama stopped fracking, I'd vote for him, but since he is not, I see no reason to.
The reason that the gas companies have not drilled yet in some places is because some places are holding them off because of the environmental dangers. I live in such a state. NY State has not given the go-ahead yet although they may soon. People here want it stopped because it will ruin some of the most beautiful land in the nation. It will ruin our fine agriculture including the wine and beer we make here. I will also ruin the tourism. Many businesses here depend on the beautiful land and would be ruined if fracking were allowed here.
Unfortunately, Romney is not against it either; but since Obama isn't; as far as these candidates go it six of one half a dozen of the other.
mygirl - grown a brain. Think Progress is NOT a Soros funded website. My guess is you're a birther too, right?
Reading through the continued whining and lies of the righties on this site (is it any wonder they support Lying Mitt?) it's reall discouraging that the right has fallen to such low intelligence levels. But, when you've got your leadership signing oaths to Grover Norquist it's not hard to understand that the only people left supporting Republicans would be those with low IQ's.
Pathetic that a once great party like the GOP has become nothing any more!
Obama/Biden 2012
@Mygirl1
The cuts he talked about come from ending the war(s). Care to prove the order to defense contractors?
mygirl1
I don't know where he gets his facts either. But I sure would like to know where you get your lies. Here is where Romney got his lie about 20 million losing their health care because of the ACA.
http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2012/oct/04/mitt-romney/mitt-romney-says-20-million-will-lose-health-insur/
You like Romney have no shame. Every time I read one of your posts, I am further amazed at your lack of knowledge.
I know I should hate Romney for his low taxes on investment income even though he paid a much higher tax on that same money originally when he earned it outside of investment income. I know I should hate Romney when he paid $6.2 million to the taxman and donated $7 million to charity, including $4.1 million to his church. Man, he is evil for donating 16% of his income to charity! If a liberal gave that much to charity it would be on every news cast and he would have a half hour infomercial documenting each and every wonderful charity act.
I know I should love the Obamas for donating $240,000 to charity, about 5.7 percent of their income. Every news cast loves to tout how generous they are and loves to do segments on their gift giving. The Bidens gave an average of $369 to charity a year for the decade before he moved to the Naval Observatory - about 0.3 percent of their income. Back in 1997, then VP Al Gore and his then wife Tipper gave $353. Since becoming VP, Biden hasn't become much more generous. In 2010, he gave $5,350, about 1.4 percent of income. That same year, Romney gave $3 million. The national average is about 3%. Yeah, I should probably trust the rhetoric from the left when they speak a huge game but are pitiful when it comes to donating their own money to charity. It is easy to give other peoples money away. A good human being gives their own hard earned money to charity.
Latest polls show Rmoney leads O'bomber 83%-17% --- in the percentage of lies told on the campaign trail. Sounds like O'bomber is gaining ground, but if you peruse the posts above, you'll see the republican lies are well-ingrained into the teabagger belief system. Funny how in their world soros donates ONE TIME to a non-profit group and they're discredited forever to the rightwing zealots as "liberal lies" but groups like Americans for prosperity can publish volumes of lies and distortions, while being completely owned by the diabolical coke brothers and in the netherworld of rightwingnut politics, this is gospel.
Want some truth? O'bomber is a corporate puppet and a miserable president. Rmoney is a liar and a corporate bloodsucker who would be 1,000 times worse. The obstructionist republikkkan party and their blue-dog buttbuddies in congress are about 98% corporate-owned and operated. Either way, the empire strikes out. The rest of the dem party in congress, outside the progressive caucus, is obstructionist in thier own ineptitude and as worthless as a teabagger promising to help the working class. Those lines never intersect, but the lies do at every turn.
F*** 'em all! Vote Green.
Pity,
We are electing a President, not a Philanthropist.
Again, people, 200 word limit. Yawn......you lost me after word 201....zzzzzz
Enough with the Soros conspiracies. The truth is that most (if not all) of those statements were facts.
You forgot about how Romney's repeal of the $716 billion in Medicare savings would push the date of Medicare's insolvency to 2016, about 7 years before the voucher plan kicks in and ironically in a re-election year for Mitt Romney (should he get elected in the first place). It would be fun to watch Romney justify massive cuts to Medicare benefits to his Democratic opponent in the debates, much less admit that his promise to current beneficiaries about how their benefits would not be touched would be broken... But other than that, you are spot on, buddy. Keep up the good work.
OBAMA BIDEN 2012

Wait since when is FOX News not mainstream? FOX has over 2 million viewers I would call that mainstream (unless the definition of mainstream has changed.) FOX doesn't support support Obama! The left leaning of the media is grossly overstated, considering the fact most media is corporate controlled.
Tell us Republicans, which Romney do you favor?
This Mitt Romney ---- "The Arizona immigration policy is a good model" – Mitt Romney.
Or this Mitt Romney ---"I didn't really support the Arizona immigration policy" – Mitt Romney.

Or this Mitt Romney --- “The stimulus passed in early 2009 has been a failure.” – Mitt Romney.
So Republicans are cheering ROmney is a masterdebater but TALK IS CHEAP. Obama is the job creator. We will vote for Obama!
OBAMA 2012
ROMNEY 1040
I agree, and the Republicans called John Kerry a flip flopper........... I call Mitt Romney a pathological liar.
"Obama was a stumbling, mumbling, stuttering, clueless disaster during the debate!!"
Very similar things were said about President Regan after his first debate as incumbent President.
We have now had 7 first debates between incumbent Presidents and challengers. The incumbent lost the first one in 6 out of the 7 debates. The only President to win his first debate was President Clinton.
Charlie-1915998, This is exactly the same thing every democrat and fair minded Independents are thinking. Why DID NOT Obama highlight these during the debate? i.e. Romney has one talk to one set of audience and diametrically opposite talk to another set of audience. In the next debate, Obama, in my opinion, should call out and say that "Romney is a LIAR and worse than a snake oil salesman."
Last year when we saw an improvement in the job numbers it was for November. Now, your saying the seasonal job increase is in September? It really doesn't matter anyway. They publish seasonally adjusted numbers as you will see if you go to the DOL website and download the stats yourself.
870,000 people found work last month. Really? Nah they didn't cook the books. Biggest growth in a single month in over 30 years. Its a miracle...............................If you buy that number you are dumber than a box of rocks.
When we needed hope and change we got Chicago style politics. When 25 of the top economist thought that we would create 114,000 jobs and in fact we did, not one of them saw the Miracle of September coming. Those economist poll the major employers and none of them were hiring at anywhere near these numbers. So these people got their jobs in the private sector and not from any of the companies that we would normally expect like those that report their hires to the government monthly. No wonder Jack Welch was puzzled. So am I.
Now we get the employment numbers and we should blindly believe them. I guess things must be much better somewhere else rather than here. I don't think so.
I wonder if Obama will be able to boast about this with a straight face. Incredibly this the one number that does get revised in a couple of weeks.
Going to be fun to watch all the Romneys showing up at the next debate.
The moderator will ask a question ..."Governor Romney , how many jobs have you outsourced in your life time.?" Romney will answer..."Which one of us Romneys are you talking to? The Romney that actually did outsource jobs, the one who denies he outsourced jobs, or the one who said he did both!"
The debate will be then remade into movie remake of the 1957 film, "The Three Faces of Eve." Called "The Three Faces of Mitt", starring Mitt Romney, Mitt Romney, and Mitt Romney!"
Well, there were rumors of the October surprise, perhaps the surprise is the miracle that happened with the jobs report that came out after Obama's crappy debate showing. Convenient, no?
TheOverlord... "They are theocratic oligarchs and only interested in amassing wealth and power over others. In other words Republicans have become fervently anti-American." I not only agree but I'm thinking that it borders on treason. ol-i-gar-chy: noun 1. a form of government in which all power is vested in a few persons or in a dominant class or clique; government by the few. 2. a state or orginization so ruled. 3. the persons or class so ruling.
Mike in SA... One more time: "If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough." Albert Einstein
dgeding... Bingo! Here's how "Al" put it:
"An oligarchy of private capital… cannot be effectively checked even by a democratically organized political society (because) under existing conditions, private capitalists inevitably control, directly or indirectly, the main source of information." Albert Einstein
There are two things I don't like about "Mitt" Romney. His face.
Romney/Ryan... The best government money can buy.
Tea Sux
Because they are actually half truths.
Go back to the context of what was said, and you will find a changed word here, a deleted word there, etc.
Half truths fail in the face of someone who knows and studies the whole truth.
You know, a very wise man once said, "Trust but verify"! The fact that the unemployment rate dropped so quickly and for a very strange reason is the hint that this may be manipulated for the Democrats political reasons. I will guarantee that in the next few weeks there will be a "restatement" of the unemployment rate, but, the liberals and the media will "conveniently" forget to mention the change! BTW, there are still fewer jobs in this country now than when President Obama took office.
President Obama was not at his best, granted.
But you have overstated it if you think he was a 'disaster'. Watch the debate again and listen to what Obama had to say.
Romney came across as an overbearing, lying flip-flopper, bullying the moderator and misrepresenting both President Obama's positions and his own. Romney shook his Etch-A-Sketch but good.
Romney's performance was just that: a performance. It doesn't the change the reality that we truly don't know what he would do in office. He has waffled so many times that he's having a hard time keeping up with himself.
Romney was terrible (a disaster!) on his European tour, insulting people everywhere he went. He believe corporations are the same as people and said so publicly. Romney is a fool.
He is now trying to walk back his '47%' speech, but he's not fooling anyone. There were more truths in that speech than what he has said publicly for the entire campaign. 'Half the citizens are moochers', 'we'll just kick the ball down the field in the Middle East', etc. His true feelings are revealed in that speech, and it has been viewed three times as often as his campaign speech. http://www.businessinsider.com/romneys-47-viewed-more-than-convention-speech-2012-9
American voters are about to choose the leader of the Free World. Will we make that choice on the basis of the first debate? Personally, I don't think so. Voters are more aware than ever of the stakes for our country. We are not choosing the best debator, we are choosing the best candidate to be President of The United States of America.
OBAMA/ BIDEN 2012
Dan, an even wiser man once said that we must not confuse coincidence with causation.
There is ZERO evidence that the latest employment numbers were manipulated by the White House. In fact, it is an insult to the nonpartisan Bureau of Labor Statistics to suggest malfeasance in the absence of any evidence.
Before Obama took office the economy was losing 800,000 jobs a month. During his first term, we've had 31 consecutive months of job growth and added 5.2 million new private sector jobs. Unemployment remains high largely because we have seen Republican governors slash public sector positions from the ranks of teachers, firefighters and policemen.
In this state, Republicans get the credit for our high unemployment numbers.
It is impossible to imagine how the right wing lunatic fringe can make such ridiculous accusations and then ignore the lies and fatuous arguments floated by their failed candidates. If they are this shrill and whiny over hard numbers and facts, how will they respond when President Obama is reelected?
You're right, Romney will no longer be a candidate he'll be the president and obama will be joining the ranks of the unemployed desperately out looking for the one of the jobs he said he has created!
Sailcat-2064101
It is impossible to imagine how the right wing lunatic fringe can make such ridiculous accusations and then ignore the lies and fatuous arguments floated by their failed candidates. If they are this shrill and whiny over hard numbers and facts, how will they respond when President Obama is reelected?
I've watched you make these hair brained statements for months now - no shred of evidence just innuendo, speculation and ass-umptions! You obviously say them just to make yourself feel good! BTW, the latest fund raising tolls shows obama at almost $1b - must be one h*ll of a lot of $5 donations from poor people OR ( heaven forbid I should be an accuser) he has bought the presidency once again!
It all remains to be seen. Nov. 6 will tell us who will be out there all shrill and whiny - actually, I've seen it from both sides......now don't deny it!
First of all, Izzy, it's hare brained, not hair brained. Secondly, there is plenty of evidence the president will be reelected, from the electoral maps, to the polls, to the fact the GOP has managed in one way or the other to alienate most major voting blocs. Your willful ignorance merely blinds you to your candidate's inevitable failure and please be assured I will be here waiting for you the morning after the results are confirmed just so I can see your feeble, meaningless excuses and your pathetic predictions of gloom and doom.
Romney is exactly the candidate you deserve: a loser.
Actually, you sound like a little nit-picking hair brain neo-nazi with your take on the inevitable - I don't believe any of your tripe smacking of party dogma. Obama the great healer - phooey, he did NOTHING to bring anyone together - well, except for dingle-berries like you! All his failures stand as a monument to his ineptitude and to your moronic glorification of a jackass in a suit!
Oh btw, you should really know about losers you've been following one for almost 4 years and have been eating his bullsh*t, too! And if you're gonna be waiting for me I'll let you know where I'll be if you care to step out from behind your safe little computer world of anonymity! Creep!
Here's the record of a loser:
Solyndra - Bankrupt
Enter 1 - "
Beacon Power - "
Abound Solar - "
Amonix Solar - "
Spectra Watt - "
Eastern Energy - "
4 1/2 years of 8+% unemployment.....
Can you guess who it is???
I see Izzy is foaming at the mouth, again. Why in the world does he expect anyone to take his semi-literate, wild-eyed hallucinations seriously? Never mind: he'll be whistling a slightly different tune when President Obama is reelected. He really ought to stock up on Depends and tissues before election day, though: he will definitely be needing them.
Typical of programmed trog, attack instead of countering with validated facts, hang your head just like obama did during the debate because he had no facts to work with ........I take back what I said about you being a creep - you're just a plain azzhat! When you grow up - or grow a pair - come back and challenge me, if you got ANYTHING that is fact!
What validated facts would you like that you won't run away from?
7.8% unemployment?
http://www.bls.gov/news.release/archives/empsit_10052012.pdf
President Obama is on the brink of owning the electoral counts?
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2012/president/2012_elections_electoral_college_map.html
What facts will you face and from which you will not retreat?
You are as much a coward as your candidate.
How about the polls?
Gallup; Obama 49%, Romney 46% = Obama +3
CNN; Obama 50%, Romney 47% = Obama +3
NBC; Obama 49%, Romney 46% = Obama +3
NPR; Obama 51%, Romney 44% = Obama +7
You can have Rasmussen; Obama 47%, Romney 49%; Romney +2
Now let's hear you snivel about skewed polls and oversampling, okay? It doesn't really matter, though: your president is heading for reelection and no matter how much you whine about it, the American people aren't going to warm up to a blithering idiot who will write off 47% of our country and write off his Olympic dressage horse to the tune of $70K. Read 'em and weep.
Way to go.....7.8% that's great - first time in 4 1/2 yrs. -if you believe the spin and how convenient for him right near election, hmmmm, might be that Welsh was right, too!
You really hang your hat on polls that mean nothing other than making you trogs feel good. Anyone will tell you that the only poll that matters is the one day poll in Nov. and I'll wait until then to believe anything - I'm not as easily fooled as you.
How very easy it is for someone like you to call anyone a coward when you're hiding in a computer - I seriously doubt you would be able to even finish saying that word to my face, you little piss ant!
I said facts you moron......polls are NOT facts - they can change day by day. I know you're a leftist and changing facts is a part of your daily habit but it doesn't work when your up against knowledge just ask obama about his failures at the debate!......you're such an idiot! Isn't it past your bedtime?
Yeah, they haven't been that low since the economy melted down under the incompetent Bush administration. Thanks for pointing that out!
Bush, again! That is so tired and lame! A convenient whine by the left, is that the best you can do? Its time to start blaming obama for his incompetence as a leader, that boob! Find something new to blame, something that's more relevant, if you can - I know you're not working with much here after all you are trying to justify obamas dismal record. I can't believe how pathetic, rhetorical and worn out your arguments are becoming! Looks like your running out of everyone else's whining points - try some original thinking - IF you know how!
Actually, you got nothing! A losers hand!
Now, now; you brought up the time frame with your "4 1/2 years" thing. You can't have it both ways, you know. Either it is relevant or it isn't. Typical teatard.
Listen, I would like nothing more than to stay here and humiliate you some more, but the game is on. See ya, loser!
Hahaha, just like your mentor - Fietsy Redwhatever and your empty suit leader obama - you claim you accomplished something that you really didn't - bending the facts again with a deadhead statement that's as empty as your ability to make an intelligent debate! See ya around azzhat!
BTW, knowing you you're probably watching, or more than likely competing, in some Cheerleader finals at your local junior high schools. lol
And how under Romney is it going to be better? None of you people will ever realize that the two party system is a complete failure will you?
Why does it make y'all feel better to take pot shots at eachother?
Geez, what a shock....the tea holes/republican'ts only believe polls and numbers when they are in there favor. I'd be more worried about Romney's lies and tax records than I would the truth. Nothing this President ever does or did, would make these clowns happy. It's reality dipshots, deal with it!
Actually you have a "scientist" that's a republican today saying that he doesn't believe in evolution and thinks the Earth is 9000 years old.
This is pure desperation from the Republicans that see the wheels coming off the Romney campaign bus.
Eric-913730
9000 years old? Wow is he ever out on a limb! Conservapedia will tell him it is only 6000 ... it's a biblical certainty.
They take this position on every number published. Gas prices go up, it is Obama's fault, gas prices are down, it is free market, capitalistic supply/demand.
They use this mentality across the board .. they get home, kiss the wife on the cheek and pet the dog, it's because their free market, capitalistic boss gave them a raise. They get home, kick the dog and bitch slap the wife, it's because Obama cut their pay.
Yup, Blackcat, another enlightened republican out of Ga., also said that big bang theory a pit out of hell, meanwhile I believe his banging on his 4th wife. Gotta love the New south. scary part of this he's a member of congress with no competition come November. Joins the ranks of Bachmann, West, Aiken, Issa, S. King, Walsh, Santorum etal.
Unlike Obama, who blames all the negatives on Bush and only takes credit for successes, many of which came as a direct result of Bush policies. Interesting how you all are so one-sided, no real facts, just insults and name calling, but then, you do support Obama.
For starters let's not forget who got us into this Mess, the name that comes up 99% of the time is "W", I would say he did a good job Destroying us as a Country !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I smell something? Who farted? Damn!, Someone needs a good cleaning out! Gwad! That you DB Akron? No? You think it was "Smitty1118? I don't give a damn which one it was DB. You're the cleanup man for your bunch. That stench is awful! Find out which one it was and give 'em a mint or something. Gwaddamn fart stinking republicans! Taint decent DB!
Eric
Either you are making things up, or you are reading people that write novels.
There are two groups in conservatives, the Young Earth (YE) proponents and the Old Earth (OE) proponents. The YE's hold that the earth is between 6,000 - 13,000 years old. The OE's believe that the earth could be as old as 1 Billion years old.
OE's outnumber YE's 5 to 4. OE's appear to have a better grasp of Genesis mostly because older Hebrew texts have been uncover showing that the English translation is flawed and actually meant that the earth became void, and darkness was on the face of the earth.
http://www.conservapedia.com/Origin_of_life_on_Earth
Patriotic, Way up in the first thread was a contributor blaming Clinton for the mess but in fairness said that Bush did nothing to correct it. Clinton left office about 12 years ago and yet, the "conservatives" are STILL blaming him. EVEN after working with the reps for 6 of his 8 years and Bush having his reps in power for 6 of his 8 years. Oh well, lets not let facts get in the way.
And what about the GOP and Jimmy Carter??? Time after time the GOP compare Obama to Carter, blaming him for the slow recovery and essentially bringing up the elderly president for something that happened over 30 years ago. My liberal friends, we ought to say that we will bring up Bush for as long as the Republicans bring up Carter, which to my recollection totals to about 33 years of Bush-filled mockery.
OBAMA BIDEN 2012
Freshieee, thank you. I was thinking the same thing but decided to leave that alone. But after reading your comment, I can see where I should not of bit my tongue and just let go.
My only hope is no matter who is president (Obama of course) or one of the Romney's, congress will at last begin to work together to get this country really moving.
Freshieee, Salute !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So Republicans are cheering ROmney is a masterdebater but TALK IS CHEAP. Obama is the job creator. We will vote for Obama!
OBAMA 2012
ROMNEY 1040
Mitt had an awesome performance during the debate, even recognized by hard, left-leaning anchors on NBC, and CNN! Isn't it possible that his encouraging performance suggests that he is poised to become the next President? Now how would that knowledge affect companies confidence and willingness to grow and invest in more workers?
- Not only is the above statement somewhat far-fetched (I'm just using it as an example), but the debate occurred at a time that would have no impact on last month's job numbers. Here's my point. Anybody can and does say anything to get their guy in office, or back in office regardless of the numbers: It's just people talking, nothing more.
Isn't it more likely that jobs are going to go up and down no matter who is President. Last month it went up. I don't support Obama, but that doesn't mean that the numbers aren't good news, so good job America.
I'm voting for Romney because I believe, of the two, he is more likely to have experience, knowledge, drive, and passion to grow America's economy in real ways, and in ways much bigger than even he's proposing. When we see those numbers, I'm sure we'll see that this "Hey you messed with the numbers" knife will cut both ways, and we'll have to deal with left-leaning conspiracy theories (sigh). But the facts are the facts: either there are 23 million Americans out of work, and the average household income is down by $4,000/month, or there are not. Yes, we need a change, the right change, we need Mitt Romney. When the other team's home run hitter hits a foul ball, you need a good Mitt to catch it.
ROMNEY/RYAN 2012
Most Republican voters suffer from collective amnesia, they seem to think ALL Americas trouble started on January 20, 2009. In reality [something Republicans don't believe in] our troubles started in 1980 when Reagan was elected; the Republican Party has had it's greedy little hands in the cookie jar ever since that time and they have robbed us blind........... Personally I'm in favor of putting them all on trial for treason.......... but that's a discussion for another day.
The fools that still support these Republican thieves are either very stupid or so brain washed that they're beyond help.
BigAl: You got you some selective memory there. The seventies escaped your notice? Carter escape your notice? Thieves? Hmmm, well, you are blinded by partisan propaganda, but please, get your history and facts straight, it is unbecoming for a person to use selective cherry picking and then attempt to claim the high moral ground.
like the kind of cherry pickin' you do, mygirl1?
You know these political comment posts are just loaded with little piss ants like you - long of words but short on knowledge and intelligence! You have nothing constructive to say just you little vengeance whines!I'm glad most real people are not like you or your kind - you wouldn't know the reality of truth even if it bites you in the azz - and you wouldn't acknowledge it even then, because it comes from your team, right?. Polls and statistical data mean whatever the person presenting them means for them to say - you ignorant nut-job. And all politicians don't necessarily lie they just tell their side of a fact - that way the REAL fact checkers can't claim they lied! Even your beloved messiah obama doesn't tell the full truth. But then again you really care about that, do you! You just want your team jersey to win - no matter the price.
I can tell by your post you just aren't the brightest bulb in the lamp - and that's YOUR reality, dipsh*t!
You hit the nail right on the head!
The right wing are idiots with there heads in the sand...so they cannot even be optimistic about good news for America because they hate President Obama so much. Ugly Americans. Disgusting...wouldn't it be an uplifting 4 years if ROMNEY WON? Ugh....
If Romney wins then Democrats should do what Republicans did to Obama, fully obstruct his agenda.
One and done for Romney.
And I bet you think Obama won the debate too.
Obama has led, it's Republicans focus on making him a one term President that has been the problem.
There has been no cooperation from Republicans at all. It's called obstruction.
The record number of filibusters proves that it is the republicons who are not leading. Instead they are trying to pull us all back into the ditch that bush/cheney drove us into.
Unemployment peaked in October 2009 at 10% and three years later is down to 7.8%, but if the republicons would have worked for America instead of against America it could be 6.8%.
Oh, please, quit with the lies, until the landslide elections in 2010, the republicans were in the serious minority and....please, explain how the Obamacare legislation got passed without a single republican vote? They filibustered that too? Interesting how the spin that the democrats tossed out is picked up and mouthed like it was gospel. Demogoguery isn't fact, it is attempts to misquote and spin, now where is that budget the democrats haven't come up with since Obama got elected?
If your definition of "winning" the debate, is looking more confident, smiling(smirking) more, and being more forceful(bullyish), all the while denying almost everything you've said in the many months leading up to the debate.....
then Romney won.
Why aren't those of you supporting Romney(or just against Obama) not acknowledging all the lies and denials Mitt gave during the debate?
Obama thought Myth was going to defend/explain his prior statements/ideas, and not flat out deny he ever said them.
Will the real Mitt Romney pleass stand up?
That guy facing Obama during the debates, contradicted the words of the other Mitt Romney.
Budgets have passed EVERY year.
To say otherwise, is just bullsh*t.
@Eric. Your man had his chance when he had both the House, and Senate under his Democratic rule. Get real and face it, he even failed then, so don't blame the Republicans now. Your man also lied when he said if he couldn't get the job done in 3 years he would be a one term President. So who is lying now.
Budgets have passed EVERY year.
NO, only continuing resolutions have passed since 2008. The last 2 Bush Budgets were voted down in both the house and senate. Bush signed the Fiscal 2008 Budget passed by Congress, but, vetoed Congress's 2009 Budget version. Bush signed a Continuing Resolution of about 800 Billion to fund Everything but Defense for the first half of fiscal 2009. He also signed a 600 Billion defense Bill to cover all of fiscal 2009. That amounted to 1.4 Trillion dollars. The final spending for 2009 was 3.1 Trillion and was signed by Obama.
Obama sent his budgets to the House and Senate each year as required by the Constitution. In the Senate, Minority leader McConnell used parlimentary manuevers to bring Obama's budgets to the floor for a vote where they were overwelmingly defeated each time. The Senate never offered an actual budget since Obama became president.
When Pelosi was speaker from 2009 - 2011, she never proposed a full budget and never even brought Obama's budgets to the floor.
When the Republicans took over the house, they not only voted down the Obama budgets, but passed budgets for 2012 and 2013 and sent them to the Senate where Reid won't even look at them and only throws them on the Shelf.
To fund the government, they have had to write continuing resolutions and fought to cut the spending levels a proposed by Obama and Reid in the Senate.
continuing resolutions then.
To say we "don't have a budget", is false though.
Folks...let's just calm down for a minute o.k.? We all have our own point of view about polling, but what I don't get is, WHY when there are "encouraging" jobs numbers, you on the right think that it's all B.S.? Can't you just be glad of the fact that our fellow citizens are finding WORK? Or, do you subscribe to the EXTREME right theory that it is all a "TRUMPED UP CONSPIRICY BY THE LEFTISTS"? The B.L.S. CANNOT "cook the numbers" it is NOT possible, they have a VERY strict procedure that they MUST adhere to, IT IS THE LAW! Oh, I can hear you now "Since when does the administration care about the "LAW"?!" Belive me when it comes to this they HAVE to care EVERY administration does, or they face FEDERAL FELONY charges! I don't know about YOU, but you can BET that the Secretary of Labor cares VERY MUCH. And by the way the B.L.S. is an INDEPENDENT BODY, it does not "answer" to anyone. And if you believe other wise then you're not truly aware of how the system works.
blue,
Part of the very effective rightwing PR effort for the past 20 years or so has been to demonize our government, which in my experience works pretty well. These folks seem to think that the US Government is out to get them, totally corrupt, etc. etc. Clearly they have never been outside the US to countries where this is actually true.
Democrats had a solid majority in the House, but not in the Senate. You see, a solid majority a few years ago meant 51 votes at the very least, with 54-55 being the best to ensure a majority if a few senators break the party line. The day Obama took office, that all changed with the GOP's "best and brightest" concocted a plan to obstruct his agenda with the seldom-used filibuster. Before, the filibuster was only used occasionally, and was akin to the "nuclear option." However, the GOP opened up with a massive barrage of filibusters on the Democratic lines, turning a 58-vote majority that would have once led to domination of the house to a mere technicality. Since the filibuster requires 60 votes to overturn, Democrats (having 56 members and 2 caucusing Independents) required Republican support, and unfortunately the Republican Party was united in obstructing the Democrats' plans. Only two major bills in my opinion survived the filibuster (and by major I mean well-known); the stimulus (which had the support of 3 courageous Republican senators) and the healthcare plan (which had no Republican support. The healthcare plan was quite centrist in its design, as it consisted of conservative ideas like the individual mandate and state-led healthcare exchanges. The only liberal or center-left portions of the bill to my knowledge was the expansion of Medicaid coverage and its financing via taxes and savings. Obama even took out the damn public option because he wanted to shore up the support among the Blue Dog Democrats, who for some reason opposed a public health insurance option even though it would compete with private insurance plans. Now, the bill technically had about 59 supporters (give or take a few conservative Democrats who didn't like it), but the Republicans skillfully deployed a filibuster on it to stall its implementation. Fortunately for the Obama administration and the Democratic leadership, there is a small loophole to the filibuster; reconciliation. Reconciliation, another rarely-used parliamentary procedure, allows for the filibuster to be overturned and a vote to take place requiring only a simple majority for any bill that has an impact on the fiscal health of the nation. As the Affordable Care Act (or Obamacare) contained a massive increase in government spending that was entirely paid for (with a surplus to lower the deficit) by a combination of reductions in improper payments to Medicare (yet another Republican concept promoted by conservatives like Newt Gingrich) and other programs and several tax increases, the Democrats were able to employ reconciliation and pass the Affordable Care Act into law, much to Republican consternation. So mygirl, the next time you or any other short-sighted right-wing idiot brings up how Obama had control of the House and the Senate for the first 2 years, try to remember that the Republicans FILIBUSTERED every goddamn bill that went through the Senate, employing a parliamentary procedure that was never intended by the Founding Fathers to be employed by a minority that sought to clog up the veins of our democratic institutions. Essentially, the GOP has become a dictatorship of the minority, one that has assumed powers that have turned the Senate from one of the world's most respected institutions into a blocked-up tunnel of once-bipartisan bills that have been used to unseat a president and fool the American people.
OBAMA BIDEN 2012
To "mygirl"
It takes 60 votes to block a filibuster.
Filibuster in the United States Senate - Wikipedia, the free ...
Look at the chart - the really big spike starts when Republicans started blocking the Democrats who came into the Senate Jan 2007. The Democrats did not have a filibuster proof majorit. Starting in 2009:
20 Jan 2009 - 55 Dems, 2 Independents, total 57, 2 vacant (Senator Kennedy not there because of malignant brain tumor [he collapsed on inauguration day] and the results of the Minnesota seat were contested)
28 Apr 2009 - 56 Dems, 2 Independents, total 58, 2 vacant (Arlen Spector switched parties, Senator Kennedy ill, Minnesota seat contested)
15 May 2009 - 56 Dems, 2 Indep, total 58, 3 vacant (Senator Kennedy ill, Minnesota seat contested, Senator Byrd hospitalized)
June 2009 - 57 Dems, 2 Indep, total 58/59, 2 vacant (Senator Kennedy ill but came one day to vote for the healthcare bill, Senator Byrd still in hospital, Minnesota seat still contested)
7 July 2009 - 58 Dems, 2 Indep, total 60, 2 vacant (Senator Franken sworn in, Kennedy & Byrd still ill)
Kennedy made another surprise appearance in the Senate to break a Republican filibuster against the Stimulus package.
So there wasn't a filibuster proof majority siting in the Senate until after Senator Kennedy died and he was replaced temporarily on 24 September 2009 with Dem. Paul G. Kirk. That ended when Senator Brown took over the the Massachusetts seat that had been Senator Kennedy's on 24 Feb 2010.
mygirl1 post 4.6
I feel sorry for you because it sounds like your the most under informed person I've seen posting anywhere on the Internet. You should get your facts straight before you hit "post comment". Making things up doesn't add to the conversation, it cheapens it.
Yes and all those filibusters resulted in the passage of Obamacare WITHOUT a single republican vote. You seem to ignore that salient fact. Your numbers are interesting because they confirm what I said about the republican minority, the bills got passed because there weren't enough republicans to block them and you explained my point very nicely.
Big Al: Having had the less-than-enlightening experience of reading some of your posts, I would say that if you are calling me to task for your 'perception' of my inaccuracies, well, I don't feel too concerned about your perceptions.
Freshiee
In the house, you need only 50% + 1. In the Senate 60 votes is the key number. Yes, the democrats had only 59 (60 for about 4 weeks), but they were having a hard time selling the ACA to at least 5 of them. They tried to turn at least 3 Republicans. What a change from 2003 - 2007 when 14 Republican senators regularly jumped ship to vote with democrats, often for more spending.
Blue Dogs in both the Houses and weak republicans refusing to vote for it should have just enough to tell people this bill is bad news.
Folks on the right aren't skeptical of polling. We are just skeptical of repeated use of the same polls that were grossly inaccurate in 2008. Gallup, NYTimes, CBS, MSNBC, WaPo. They were wrong then, and they are wrong now. What poll DO I like? Rasmussen. He was spot on in 2008. And he's spot on now. (Romney leading nationally, Romney leading in Florida, Romney leading in Virginia, virtual dead heat in Chicago.)
Rassmussen tilts right until right before the election then they change how they collect their data.
Gallup is well known and politically neutral.
Eric
Both Rasmussen and Gallup are similar, yet different. Gallup has been using voter registrations to poll the opinion of those registered. This is useful to politicians, because it shows them if spending money can get them a victory based on what the likely voter polls say.
Rasmussen uses strictly likely voters. They determine through survey what the mix of voters is motivated to vote. If Rasmussen is tilted to the right, it is only because that is who they have learned are going to vote.
Nearly all polling companies run their results for both likely and registered voters. Since the conventions ended they are reporting the likely voter portion.
I follow the internals when available. What I can tell you is that the media paid for polls started with a party, and racial mix identical to 2008 and assumed that the change from 2004 to 2008 to be a trend when in reality, it was an abberation. Not only did they start there, but they allowed higher numbers of Democrats to be included assuming again, 2008 to be a trend toward democrats despite the polls showing that democrat enthusiam had dropped severly and that actual democratic registrations have decreased 10 times faster than republican registrations.
Being enthusiam and registration were down greatly, the polls should be using an average of 2004 & 2008. From looking at the numbers state by state, Obama and Romney until just before the debate were in a dead heat.
Being Romney is pretty clear to have dominated, not just won the debate, I'm see polls starting to post with a shift of 4 - 8 points from previous polls conducted by those polling companies. The caution is that the polls are Gravis and Rasmussen. Rasmussen I know uses what is probably a pretty close mix to reality in the National polls, but often is hit and miss per state. Gravis appears to be republican poll, but my version of Adobe refuses to accept their PDF's.
DB,
I just read where Rasmussen does not include households whose only phone is a cell phone (apparently they are not allowed to do this because they use a robocall method of surveying). Don't you think that would make something of a difference between their results and others who do include cell phone users? After all, it is more than 30% of the population, predominately young and more likely to vote for a Democrat.
They are numbers but,the Electoral vote is what counts.
Obama/Biden
Robo calls are the least accurate.
You get a higher percentage of Democrats because Republicans blow those calls of. They have more productive things to do.
Christina
You are counting chickens before that hatch. The polls are a candle, and you cannot tell that the chick will survive until it does.
There have been about 8 polls showing a bounce of 4 - 5 points from previous polls of that polling company.
According to Public Policy Polling, In Wisconsin, Obama 49, Romney 47.
If Republicans don't beleive in facts, perhaps they are not qualified to be elected. They were perfectly happy with these numbers when they supported their argument.
The plain fact is that it is hard to imagine almost one million people "suddenly" saying that they are employed over a few months ago! There have only been a few hundred thousand jobs created in the same time period and more increase in the working age population than jobs created. Please understand how many people are extremely suspicious of this miraculous change just a month or so before the election!
Dan M
Why is it so hard to imagine that there was a drop in the unemployment rate? After all, the right wing believes that Obama is a Kenyan, a Muslin Socialists, who has a secret plan to destroy the US. The Republicans have been trying every way they can to obstruct jobs programs since Obama was elected and have been jumping up and down in glee like monkeys every month that the unemployment number did not drop below 8%. The stats are what they are. They would be better if the the Republicans gave a damn about the country but they are not answering to the country, only the few who finance their campaigns.
It is smoke and mirrors as suspected. This is an economist who knows of what he speaks. Read it and weep lefties.
Any job is an improvement.
I find it funny that Republicans will gripe about jobs, and then not pass Obama's jobs bill, but even better, block the jobs bill for veterans.
At least 1 million more people could be employed to day if Republicans weren't obstructing Obama.
And it is not like Reid in sending bills to the floor. He has them on his desk. HE might be starating a paper drive once ehtey vote him out.
Did you read the part about the participation rate? Didn't think so. Your side never likes critical thinking and facts that would skew your misguided adoration. 9.7 - 9.8% right now if it was the same as when the "recovery" (lol) started.
And the jobs bill for veterans was full of junk and exceeded the funds originally approved for it. That is why it didn't pass. Keep trying.
Republican jobs bills are a joke. In fact, they aren't jobs bills at all.
They are hand outs to big oil, and the deregulation of clean air and water.
Republicans always find an excuse not to pass a jobs bill.
The participation rate peaked in 2000 and fell every single year that bush/cheney were running the country. Then it fell faster during the worst of your Great Recession. You are a bunch of mean little men trying to blame someone else for your own failures.
Talk, what junk, cite sources and what you are speaking of? Violence Against Women Act, still languishing and boehner won't bring it up for a floor vote, what's wrong with that bill?
Sources I have are the fact that there are already 6 programs for veterans now. One more is going to make a difference? You are delusional. The fact that they tried to push it and sneakily increased the needed funding should be enough. Especially if the others aren't working as they would like. Why not change the others and expand instead of throwing MORE money at another program that will more than likely have a dismal outcome?
What's wrong with a violence against men act to go along with it. How about we include animals too. You don't understand, the law as it stands punishes violence against ANYONE. Yes there may be tougher penalties if committed against women but then, why not stiffen penalties against everything illegal? Do you see where your liberal thinking falls short? What the hell difference is there whom or what it is. To restrict it to yet another "downtrodden" group is ludicrous. Thought not.
I constantly hear how the Republicans want to "hand out" money to the oil companies! The fact is that Obama has put out approximately 30 times the amount of the "so-called" subsidies to the oil companies to "Green" companies like Solyndra ($500,000,000 + just disappeared!). And when was the last time you heard of mass layoffs from Mobil, or BP? These "Green" companies are just vapor and will disappear when the government cash ends. BTW, these subsidies to the oil companies were mainly the ability to accellerate depreciation on equipment used in oil production. This increased the levels of jobs in the companies which manufactured this equipment and the higher levels of oil production also increased jobs for the millions in this country who work in these industries. I am sick and tired of hearing liberals and enviro-nazis trying to destroy one of the few industries which has consistently produced jobs and tax dollars for government, local and national! Tell me how much taxes have been paid by these wind, solar, or other "alternative energy" companies? Also, why do GM and Chrysler not have to pay corporate taxes for 10 years after their bailouts? Ford has to pay though, huh!
No surprise...what would you expect from people who can't believe in their Candidate? .... they want to believe in something...facts have always been the ultimate FEAR FACTOR for RIGHT WINGERS.
Republicans just want to hear truth, not campaign slogans!
Dan-Republicans just want to hear truth, not campaign slogans!
I started to laugh. But then I thought,OMG he's serious. They should feel that way, true. But for years facts have been the last thing Republicans listen to. Just look who they voted for in 2000 and then 2004 again. Now they are buying the words of Romney and Ryan, please,FACTS! Facts are not a Republican strong suit.
Dan M- If Republicans just want to hear the truth why do they watch FOX?
I seriously need a job!!! So where is my spot in this? How many of the unemployed are like me and my personal experience with this. I cashed out my meager and crashed 401K and paid dearly in taxes for it. I am too young to retire and I am apparently too old to work. Where am I on this statistics list!!!! I do not get any assistant, I am not on unemployment or food stamps. So where is the chart for people just like me??? You can not possibly think I am a mere flip in this and no one else made the choice I did. Where is my statistical space; 56 years old and no one wants to hire the “old” gal.
I was in the same position in 2010 also 55 (except a guy). Employed now at 65% of what I was making before. I can live on it and have adjusted to do so (unlike millions of others who just had to keep their cellphones and flat screens). I hope you find someone out there that respects the experience you have to offer as I did. Chin up!
Kim, there are a lot of jobs in various markets, if you have the right skills. Don't have the right skills? Who do you blame?
Kim, Try starting your own business. The internet offers countless possibilities for creative work. Make something and sell it- or buy locally and sell worldwide-you can actually do it. Also you might try Romney's idea of borrowing money from your parents.
Don't have the right skills? Please, explain those 'right' skills? Spoken like a true elitist. You support Obama?
Don't have a job? Why, you're obviously either stupid or unskilled and need to move to a more 'favorable' place. Uh huh.
Actually I have very diverse skills and I have had my fair share of interviews. It is that initial look when I walk in that kills the deal, before I even open my mouth. That jaw drop, wow, we had mo idea you were old. I mean I am no Barbie Doll, but I think I look like the average 56 old woman. I mean how pretty do you need to be to sit at a desk all day long and crunch numbers on a computer.
Hey Kim, if you think you can get a decent paying job, keep trying. Don't give up! On the other hand I do think that age is a deciding factor in getting hired today! Many decent paying companies are looking for folks in their 20s and 30s for long term career paths. Therefore your pathway to getting that decent paying job is limited, I feel. Take your diverse skills and develop them into ideas that can solve others problems. Brand, Market and Publicize them. You will be able to create your own income stream while helping others get what they want. Colonel Sanders was 65 when his life and fortune completely change. And when it did change he wasn't looking for a job. He was self sufficient and employed. We all know how it all ended. He not only created millions of jobs by taking his cooking and recipes skills and sharing with others, but he created a fortune.
I hear you Kim, I was 62 when I was laid off.
I have many skills and was the employee of the year in 2008 for a company that employed a couple hundred people. I felt anyone would be lucky to get me. But time after time I got passed over until 6 months ago I got hired for one day a week and then it quickly turned into 4 days a week.
So keep trying. I applied for everything no matter how unlikely. While trained as Accounts Payable and Receivable Administrator I am now a medical receptionist learning insurance billing with the nicest boss ever.
I know how discouraged you can get, it took me over a year to find work again. Then it was letters that told me sorry but they found the PERFECT person to make you feel even worse.
Being a child of the 60's I can only equate this to hitchhiking in those days. It always seemed the longer the wait the better the ride. Being I have the best job ever after a very depressing long wait, it seems as true today as then.
Good luck
Kim -
It's the same problem many are having. My husband is starting his own business because every place he's tried tells him that he's 'overqualified'. Age discrimination, in other words. I'm in similar circumstances as I was recently laid off because my job has been deleted due to the closure of the shipyard we worked at. The one thing I've got going for me is that I became an engineer less than 5 years ago.
I'm sorry, Kim that you are in this fix and I hope things improve for you.
It is hard to be older and at the top of the income scale -- lean and mean companies favor younger workers who are cheaper, not necessarily those with experience and developed skills.
Best.
Go to small companies that need your expertise and good work habits. I personally, wouldn't hire anyone under 40! Kid's in their 20's think they're still in school and call in sick whenever they've got a hangover, or a hangnail! People in their 30's have their family problems.
Hi Kim in Utah,
I am with you in the same bind.Lots of people here in New Hamshire are middle age who have lost thier jobs and can't find a job.We are certainly not alone but, most defnately feel alone. This is why this election is so important for all Amercans. We need to vote for who has a real heart for the people.Any my vote is for Obama/Biden
I am so sick and tired of hearing liberals saying that Republicans can't understand facts! It was Obama who was humiliated in the last debate because he just pulled out "catch phrases" instead of truth! Romney was more than happy to show how ignorant Obama's claims were and the American people will, too!

Since you say facts are so important to you guys. You do know that the fact-checkers have been all over Romney for all the lies he told during the debate, right. Unless you are just lying then you should be upset over that. Or,are the"facts"only facts when you agree with them.
work in the healthcare industry and know the majoraty of us do not want oabama back in the white house, he is a TRAITOR and anyone that supports him is the same. he has put us in more debt than anyone ever has dont be an idiot. he wants our guns our freedoms and he will make sure he starts the next revolution in the united states. simply put when they come fo my guns there will be some dead folks that support that piece of pure illinois trash.
The latest unemployment number and the previous ones do not truly reflect the correct numbers of unemployed. The people who ran out of their employment insurance benefit were not included; the part-time employed people who want to work full time were not included. That is why the unemployment figures were skewed. I don’t believe it was intentional but I believe the method of collecting the info is inaccurate. The unemployment figures remain that high with all kind of money Obama’s administration had thrown in which created a crushing deficit for generations to come showed that his governing strategies did not work. There is no way we can spend our way out of depression or recession whichever we call it.
I agree, there are probably a lot more people working than the stats show. I suspect the underground economy is much larger that most people think-if they consider it at all. Odd to relate- but many people do not want to pay any taxes- and they are completely off the radar.
Reminds me of the early seventies when aerospace engineers were looking for jobs at Pizza Hut. Thd saying then was jobs are a dime a dozen and that's what a dozen jobs were worth "a dime".
Mai -- I agree that the method seems arcane. But it is still useful for comparative purposes, since the formula has been the same for decades. It is a fixed datapoint that we can use as one measure of how we are doing.
Big Bird is the root of all our problems. Get rid of him and that will fix the economy.
No. I still think it was that damn tsunami. Yup, if only that tsunami hadn't happened. Bad tsunami. Bad tsunami.
No silly, it was the ATM's that caused this.
Wait, you mean it isn't the Mayan calendar?
Of course the figures are wrong! They didn't come from that source of Truth, Light, Justice, and Good, namely, the Prince of Fuc**** Darkness---Rush Limbaugh, or from FOX Entertainment Network, the Ministry of Propaganda for Far, Right wing, Extremist, Fanaticism!
You, sir, are a hater. Why are you a hater?
MesaMax, I suspect what TJ hates is lies and liars.
Hate is a strong word. Save it for the really important things like chasing down those war criminals bush/cheney.
I actually feel sorry for that steaming pile of Mitt. Is he capable of telling the truth at all?
Google Patheos and Steve Benen for the whole article.
I’ve written about or linked to a great deal here “chronicling Mitt’s mendacity” — to borrow Steven Benen’s phrase.
Mitt Romney says many, many things that are not true. He says this despite being in possession of the correct facts of the matter.
Which is to say that Mitt Romney lies. A lot. He lies more than any other national candidate for office in my lifetime. And I was born before the Nixon administration.
This is documented. Proven. Validated, verified, demonstrated, catalogued and quantified. Mitt Romney lies.
Here are 30 — 30! — of Benen’s weekly “chronicling” posts. These are all backed up and sourced. These are not assertions, interpretations or allegations. These are facts, actual instances.
Over the past 30 weeks, Mitt Romney has told lie after lie after lie: I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX, X, XI, XII, XIII, XIV, XV, XVI, XVII, XVIII, XIX, XX, XXI, XXII, XXIII, XXIV, XXV, XXVI, XXVII, XXVIII, XXIX, XXX.
Click those links. Read the lists. List after list of lie after lie. Hundreds of them — 533, to be exact, although Benen does not make any claim to providing a comprehensive chronicle.
This is unprecedented. “We’re not going to let our campaign be dictated by fact-checkers,” Romney’s pollster, Neil Newhouse, said.
Well, when the 'fact checkers' have a political bias, perhaps there's a reason to question their 'facts.'
Mygirl1
No fact checkers are fine, it just when it's showing Obama trying to do his job, and it appears to be working that you guys have a problem. It's pretty clear.
OBAMA/BIDEN 2012 No more Lies Rmoney please..too much to ask I know.
I am going to be 64 soon and I have heard candidates make promises they couldn't keep, but I have never seen one lie as much as Romney.
Governors and Romney included have written to the president at the time asking for more control with the work requirement for welfare. This is right up Romney's alley with states rights and all. But as soon as President Obama gives the states the rights, Romney up and accuses the president of taking the work requirement out for his victim dependent base no less, which happen to be an out and out lie.
You know the 47% that doesn't work and lives on the government dole that will vote for President Obama no matter what.
I am thinking that Mitt the twit is possessed and someone else is in control of the voodoo doll or the underwear blessings that control his mind and personalities. Maybe there is another Mitt and one doesn't know what the other one is saying and that is how he keeps contradicting himself.
VOTE FOR AMERICAN'S FREEDOM TO VOTE...VOTE FOR A DEMOCRAT 2012
Wonderful, isn't it? The "epidemic" of voter fraud is touted as the reason that GOP state legislatures around the country pushed voter ID bills, yet the only real voter fraud discovered was linked to the outfit hired by the GOP to conduct voter registration in Florida and elsewhere. The GOP's candidate can't seem to man up to releasing his tax forms for fear that someone will find something to use against him. And now, the government is "cooking the books" on unemployment. I'd like to ask some psychoanalyst what sort of mental disease these symptoms would point to.
Folks, the T-Party is over. It's time to do the dishes and clean up the house from top to bottom and rid ourselves of these paranoid idiots.
I just would like to start off saying the PRESS AS BEEN UP OBAMA'S ASS since he has taken office and I am not for either canidate but if you can't see that OPEN UP YOUR EYES!!!! Our goverment keeps getting bigger and bigger and with the new jobs report out and 10,000 of jobs were goverment job!!!! Don't you think it is funny that Obama does not do that good in the debate and then when job reports come out they are lower I don't know about you but I am an educated person have been looking for a job for about 2 years and I have all so looked out of my state that I could stay their for a week and come home on the weekends and still nothing and I have a degree!!!!!! What is wrong with this picture if we really looked at umemployment it would really be 25% or higher because of people like me who have stopped looking so who counts them lets get real our country is in real trouble and all we have is our voices our goverment is getting way to big and always taking away more of our rights we all need to let our voices be heard because our poor children who will be held with all the debt and what we have created to them.
I keep thinkin about that 4.5 million jobs Obama says he created over the last four years.... and now 873,000 in ONE MONTH!
Funny, with all those new jobs around, you would think i would know somebody who got one, but i don't.
DO YOU?
How much tax payer money was spent on this useless attempts to block the vote? That's money that could have been spent on any number of usefull projects, but no..months of crap designed to disenfranchise mostly dem voters...shame on you teabaggers! You've lied, then justified, and try to tell us that God thinks its ok for you to lie because we dems are all heathens. Your ignorance of science is amazing, and you're proud of that...wow. I'm afraid that we aren't going to buy your gloom, doom lying fear b.s. anymore. Mitt bullied and lied, and nobody wants or needs that....anymore than we need to go to war with Iran. Of course with Mittwitt, you don't have any idea, cause he will change his mind, like he has hundreds of times already. No thanks.
Obama/Biden 2012 Hillary Clinton/Elizabeth Warren 2016
Al, actually, yes. I do.
Rob11-Folks, the T-Party is over. It's time to do the dishes and clean up the house from top to bottom and rid ourselves of these paranoid idiots.
Very, very, true. We need to vote as many of these traitors out as possible Nov 6th. They refuse to do their Patriotic duty and work with the elected President to help get America out of the worst economic disaster since the Great Depression. Their only mission for the last 4 years has been to overturn the will of the American people, and throw out the President the voters chose. If they are successful it would point the way for any party to get their way and overthrow the will of the peoples vote. That could led to a demise of Democracy in America, and open up a road to dictatorship.
The lunatics have taken over the Asylum. Obama is a stooge, but probably a 'better' stooge for the country as a whole than Romney. America has a mostly ignorant, at best, misinformed electorate, that hardly takes time from their American Idol shows and 64 oz Big Gulp to notice what's going on. Give it time and Mickey Mouse will be elected President one day...
The underreporting of voter fraud would also play a good part in the 'no voter fraud' mantra, along with Holder not prosecuting black on white fraud and instructing his minions to look away because, well, because he can't prosecute 'his people' which is an actual quote that he used during a congressional investigation. As to the government cooking the books, take a gander at LBJ.
Obama the choice of nine out of ten hedonist.
Really, REC? Hedonist more describes Romney's cronies, gaining their pleasure's off the back's of their employee's hard work. Maybe if they weren't taking millions of dollar in bonuses for their self indulgent pleasure's, they could pay us more and the world would be a better place!
Ozzy1957: "Sosad, your so confused, that is so sad. I hope you don't vote because your so wrong or maybe your just a left-wing liar, I don't know which.
I've only posted my thoughts and you've called me a liar with no basis for your assertion...wow...no wonder we have big problems in this country...
I have watched both candidates and Romney has held strong even when not popular unlike Obama whom changes what he says, remember Obama care is not a tax for example. I guess that may have been true, it was not a tax it is several taxes in one area...
Romney has also acknowledged that AFA is not a tax and also said that Obama has not raised taxes "yet." If Romney acknowledges AFA as a tax, then he has to answer the same charge that Obama has to answer which is he raised a tax in his home state of Massachusetts...how would he answer his critics then? If you bothered to even hear the Day 2 Supreme Court argument, you would have heard the critical issue which was that it is collected on April 15th...yes, it is a tax...would you be happier if it was a penalty instead? Justice Roberts heard that part correctly.
Bringing-up the abortion issue, I don't care one way or the other, however, I do agree with Romney that it is a state issue, not the feds right to interfere. If the majority of people that pay taxes don't want their tax dollars paying for abortion what can I say? Just remember that Obama believes in partial-birth abortion, so when is abortion too late? this may be smart though, lets just say all murders were just performing late term abortions and let them out of prison. Maybe 911 was just 3000 abortions and we should have never had a war on terror; would save a lot of tax dollars."
I'm confused why you believe abortion is a state's rights issue. If a physician and patient decide that the best thing for a woman is to have an abortion, why should the government stand in the way? Not all abortions are funded by yours and mine tax dollars...many, many women have abortions conducted by their own physician with their own money and insurance, yet would have the state get involved as a "rights" issue yet deny the "right" to women to exercise that guarantee of autonomy under the Constitution without the interference of government. When Republican controlled state legislatures and governors with veto override could pass comprehensive healthcare bills to expand coverage without having to worry about being vetoed under the same state's "rights" issue, why choose to put personhood amendments on the ballot? We can argue all day about partial birth abortions and the pros, cons and legality and there are very good arguments but don't you at least agree that woman shouldn't be subject to further scrutiny of the state too? Why are your prostate issues medical while a woman's uterus political?
Mygirl-The underreporting of voter fraud would also play a good part in the 'no voter fraud' mantra, along with Holder not prosecuting black on white fraud and instructing his minions to look away because, well, because he can't prosecute 'his people' which is an actual quote that he used during a congressional investigation. First,do you really think your teabagger zealots wouldn't report voter fraud by anybody but their own.If it was going on,please. But the rest of your post says it all, your real agenda. For a large part of the Republicans, the more right-wingers in particular. There is something "unnatural",just "not right",having a black President. You see it in a lot of their posts on social media and even on these political threads. Some of them are blatant about their views. Far more of them hide it,knowing most people wouldn't agree. But I was born (white) in the South during segregation, into a military family. I've seen all type of the ways racists work. The personal attacks on President Obama (funny style posters, jokes) are far worse than anything directed at another President (Bush,Carter,Clinton, even Nixon). The more subtle one's use code words like Mygirl here. Some use stereotyping of blacks, hoping the reader will connect the stereotype onto Obama. Its despicable that they do that,I know. But it works with their supporters and they actually feel its right. And that is why the Republicans are the wrong party to govern America. They can't accept that our country is a multi-ethnic society.now more than ever. They don't see that this President has never shown favoritism to one ethnic group over another. He is quite aware of the pressure of being the first person of color elected President of our country. And has worked from the start to make his legacy be one of inclusion for all Americans. He appointed several Republicans to his Administration. And until the Republicans, the party of no,refused to work with him,he tried over and over to work with them. This President is a far better, more intelligent person than his opponent. And far more of a caring human being than any of his detractors.
Oh Uncle Bob,
The performance of your President speaks much louder against him than any of the names written which offend you so.
If he is so damn good, why does he feel the need to Legislate through Executive order. Compared to Clinton's Executive Orders, which average 300 words, Barry's average roughly 3000 words. He has Executive Orders on the improvement of Education for African Americans, which in itself is racism doubt me? see : Executive Order 13621 of July 26, 2012
White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for African American in the Federal Register.
Bob, it wasnt only Dems who marched in the 60's for Civil rights, pal. Many Republicans represent multi-ethnic constituencies. If that is all you have to hang your hat on, time to move onto fox news and spout your grief.
He has done nothing for this country. A Sophomore Senator with zero real legislative chops or works behind him snakes his way to an election, and has millions of voters ready to vote based on the color of his skin. Want to impress me: Show me three things which are good for this country he has made happen that do not increase the debt load on my children or grand children. I don't care if Bush didn't, I don't care if Clinton did or didn't. Obama is the one who wants the job, so show me something your boy has done that is good. And if you even say Obamacare, you had better read the entire law. I have, and it is not nearly as good as his soundbytes claim it is.
Wordsmith
I was there in the sixties and there were very few right wingers as we know them today in the sixties. The John Birch Society, which is funding the right today, was considered a bunch of fanatics and as it turns out they are a bunch of fanatics who have bought their way into conrolling the modern day Repubublican party. Your side keeps saying Obama has done nothing but you leave out what he kept from happinging to the country and the country is moving forward, even if it is slowly, it is in the right direction. Now, how do you justify the Republicans making that pledge to Norquist and the right wing corporate interests over solving the problems of the working class? I want your answer on this because the right never, never answers that important fact. You never, never take the responsiblilty for your President, Bush and Cheney policies that just about destroyed the whole country in 2008. Why would anyone, in their right mind, go back to implement the same failed policies? Can you answer those questions? Let's leave your dumping on Obama out of it for five seconds and answer why you would support the failed policies of the Bush era being reinstated. You can hate Obama for your own personal reasons, but you cannot blame him for the @!$%# the Republicans offer as policy and bad acting of the Republican Congress for the last three and half years. You and yours are why this country has not returned to the pre bubble days.
If you think THIS weeks job numbers are cooked, just wait until NEXT month's job numbers!! And just in time for the election. Gee, what a coincidence THAT will be.
If nothing else works lie, seems to be the republican mantra these days.
As long as the jobs numbers stayed about 8% they were correct and now because they fell below 8% suddenly the books are cooked.
Do republicans even know how ridiculous they seem?
VOTE FOR BIG BIRD AND EDUCATION....VOTE FOR A DEMOCRAT 2012
yes, I sure it never happened before!
the first chapter in the handbook of tyranny tells how to to convince your sheep that the media and the scientists and anyone else who disagrees with you are engaged in a conspiracy to conceal what you advance as "truth". That the GOP is resorting to conspiracy theories in an attempt to discredit scientifically gathered data is no surprise. That the sheep are eating it up is no surprise either. BAAAHH.
Its wonderful that people have found part time jobs that will end in a few months and makes it seem like unemployment has fallen. Only a sheeple would believe that. The President is not believable and I hope we get real change in November. Pretty sad when a President makes a deal with contractors like Lockheed to not lay off thousands of workers until after the election. The President has offered legal assistance to those contractors who don't give the thousands of workers their pink slip until after the election.
Vote them all out in November. Republican and Democrat. Sorry Mr. President you had your shot and failed.
The first chapter in the Book of Democratic Chicago Politics explicitly states that every Democrat is required to lie, lie, lie, and then lie some more while supplying bogus "scientifically gathered data" on every subject imaginable to back up those lies. Apparently the National Democratic Party has adopted the Chicago Bible.
I would like to congratulate President Obama on the job
numbers. He must be quite proud that he has convinced 36% of the workforce to
give up and stop looking for work.
gm says facetiously!
