Two days after what was widely considered a subpar debate performance, President Barack Obama continued his mission of convincing voters that Mitt Romney did a 180-degree shift to more moderate policies during Wednesday’s debate.
“My opponent, he's doing a lot of -- a little tap dance at the debate the other night, trying to wiggle out of stuff he's been saying for a year,” Obama said, battling driving rain at an outdoor field in Cleveland, as 9,000 supporters looked on.
The president threw in a few references to popular reality TV shows (which just happen to be popular with some key demographics, young people and women) as he ridiculed what he called Romney’s political maneuverings: “It was like ‘Dancing with the Stars,’ or maybe it was ‘Extreme Makeover, Debate Edition.’”
Seeking to underscore what he says was his opponent’s dishonesty in the debate, Obama continued, “No matter what he says, my opponent, he's a big believer in these top-down economics.”
The Romney campaign responded to Obama's criticisms with a statement from campaign spokesperson Amanda Henneberg, which read in part, "The President can’t defend his record of failure on jobs and the economy so he has to lie about Mitt Romney’s pro-growth economic policies."
The president drove that message home earlier Friday at George Mason University in Fairfax, Va., noting with a touch of sarcasm that Romney said he wouldn’t raise taxes on anyone -- including corporations and the wealthy.
“He said there’s no way that he’d close the loophole that gives big oil companies billions each year in corporate welfare. Ending tax breaks for corporations that move jobs and profits overseas? He’d never heard of such a thing. Who knew? Who knew?"
And Big Bird, the new symbol for what Democrats call overzealous Republican budget cutting, also figured heavily into both of Obama’s campaign events.
“He said he'd go after funding for public television. So for all you moms and kids out there, don't worry. Somebody's finally getting tough on Big Bird!” he exclaimed in Cleveland.
“You want me to save Big Bird?” he asked as the crowd laughed.

You cannot trust Mitt Romney. His campaign rhetoric is full of distortions, when he's bothering to be specific with details at all! Which is rarely.
Mitt switching positions? Hell, the white house would say obama is 'evolving'...
90 billion for 'green energy'? most to major campaign contributors?
26 million unemployed and a blip in the jobs numbers gets everyone excited? shows how desperate this administration is for some good news...
our ambassador and foreign staff killed and our embassy looted? after mr big stuff extended his hand??? what is our response to that?
the man is not up to the job - time for change. to do the same thing for 4 more years and expect different results is plain stupid.
Obama accuses anyone he can of anything he can! What NO One has ever accused Obama of is anything even remotely related to Leadership or Personal Responsibility!
How it is that Romney® is declared a “winner”? R was like a bat out of hell rambling, flip flopping on the issues…e.g. Romney Care in Ma…. (Forcing people to buy healthcare or lose your tax exemptions//penalized.)
I guess the president was like WTF! The president could’ve been tougher with his rebuttal on all the lies/flip flopping from R. I guess the president was so deafen by this…. “Empty vessels make most noise”… loud barking …R loud barking became an annoyance for the president….how could such an intellectual man like the president debate such an emotional and rambling fool. The presidency is not about winning debates….the presidency is about governing and working your butt off for the American people.
R sounded like a broken record blaming the president over and over for the lost of jobs, and the slow pace of the recovery. Even a new born knows what is going on with the economy so what’s new? My question to you R…how can you return unemployed people back to work? R had no solutions/answers….There are no winners when the American people are losing jobs…homes…etc.
The entire debate was just about blaming the president for lost of jobs, etc. So, R, if you/party care so much about job creation…. how it is that your party is not working together with the president to create jobs? The president is not alone on the hill….your party is along for the same ride as the president to help fix the economy at a faster pace.
It should be all about the American people and not about any one party. Regardless of the party you belong to…both are without jobs, losing homes, etc.
Reps are throwing punches at the president after the debate…Throw punches at your own party on the hill and ask them to do their jobs…The real problem/gridlock… is the Reps on the hill who are not working with the president to get things done at a faster pace.
It is simple logic…the president comes into office with his own ideas to govern the people. The majority of people put him in office because they like his ideas…the opposite party did not vote for him because they oppose his ideas. Now, here is where the conflict starts on the hill…If the majority of the opposite party controls congress. The ideas put forward by the president are blocked/cannot become reality. Despite the fact it is proven that the president’s ideas could create jobs.
The mere fact is if the majority is satisfied with the outcome of the sitting president‘s ideas…He would serve a second term…the latter frightens the opposite party.
So, here is a political lesson… the Reps do not hold any interest in job creation for the “middle class.” their main agenda is, not the down economy, but to make sure the president fails/one term president (with malice)they just want total control of the white house/congress to start this BS all over again….to only serve the rich…go to war at the drop of a hat(more families without their loved ones… broken homes… kids losing their moms and dads each day)…massive job loss…more de-regulations(wall street back to business as usual)…companies shipping jobs overseas…the rich getting richer on the middle class tax increases…health insurance companies recklessly increasing deductibles each year. Increasing numbers without healthcare…the ER becomes the doctor’s office…the cost is then passed on to tax payers (middle class… as the rich continues to enjoy huge tax cuts.) The bottom line is someone has to pay….the money has to come from some where…. “Robbing from the poor to give to the rich.” Oh!…the new welfare…“vouchers for health care”…The saga continues.
Then, R says he would create jobs, but talking about laying off Big Bird...
Then, R says he would supposedly create jobs, but would layoff Big Bird...and many of the other employees who rely on public television for jobs. It is not only about just cutting funding….Well, that's R business man platform.

A FRESH AND EXCITING ROMNEY LIE
ROMNEY: "I will roll back President Obama's deep and arbitrary cuts to our national
defense that would devastate our military."
THE FACTS: "Arbitrary" defense cuts do not belong to Obama alone but also to
congressional Republicans, including his vice presidential running mate, Rep. Paul Ryan.
The first round of cuts in projected defense spending is the result of a bipartisan deal in
August 2011 between Congress and the White House to wrestle down the deficit.
Unless a new budget deal is reached in time, additional spending cuts will begin in
January across government, and the cost to the Pentagon would be $500 billion over a
decade. Lawmakers are working to avoid that.
Separately, Obama wants to slow the growth of military spending, now that the war in
Iraq is ended and the war in Afghanistan is drawing to a close. The Pentagon's budget,
including war costs, is $670 billion this year, or about 18 percent of total federal
spending. Even setting aside the costs of the wars, military spending has more than
doubled since 2001.
